- 30:36Speaker 28: I'm gonna make a wife heavy is the head heavy?
- 30:38Speaker 16: Is the head?
- 30:39Speaker 31: Heavy is the head.
- 30:41Speaker 5: It's inspired by an old eighties folks song Muhammed Sadek
- 30:45Speaker 5: and rajekr song nah del did but this he knew
- 30:49Speaker 5: and made into a jam right there by Shush, what's such?
- 30:52Speaker 5: Dev Hondu mom kind and Jasmine Sandless great stuff right there.
- 30:58Speaker 5: And we've put spotlight to that song as well last Monday.
- 31:02Speaker 5: This is a did recurry. The song is called Promise.
- 31:07Speaker 10: I hamn car just because of the.
- 31:13Speaker 31: US arcade did sagon ok okay Oshank Data made Cassie
- 31:30Speaker 31: at the Serbes Data.
- 31:33Speaker 10: Jaiajermia Data.

- 31:57Speaker 16: Jermyn uh.

- 32:45Speaker 2: Vandam yeah the play a loon.
- 32:52Speaker 32: You do Mari tak berko unsa me.
- 33:00Speaker 28: Gojo that the boot on it is durky garbage.
- 33:06Speaker 32: Jojo Umatora's a data Jka Lucky. Who say Jim and
- 33:16Speaker 32: Ekawa Data? Who you say, Jim Cover?
- 33:23Speaker 14: Whom you say?
- 33:25Speaker 33: Jim?
- 33:25Speaker 32: And mesh Chas of the series Ada?
- 33:33Speaker 10: Who you say, Jimmy?
- 33:55Speaker 5: I love the kally part of the end right there,
- 33:58Speaker 5: So cool blending it all together. The song is called
- 34:02Speaker 5: Promise Kari and I've noticed a lot of people really
- 34:07Speaker 5: kind of going back to that sufi touch in their music.
- 34:11Speaker 5: And if there's one contemporary artist that has done it
- 34:14Speaker 5: well on a very commercial level, is this man right here.
- 34:19Speaker 5: His last album was kind of sprinkled in there with
- 34:22Speaker 5: all kinds of different influences, one that contained a traditional
- 34:25Speaker 5: Kwali redo. The artist I'm talking about is Rafa Para
- 34:30Speaker 5: and this song is called Art of War. It's from
- 34:34Speaker 5: his Venoms two album that rafts the Para just released
- 34:38Speaker 5: stand by for Ajeev Satial.
- 35:00Speaker 9: No not dalling from Goddardi.
- 35:02Speaker 10: Are you don got money?
- 35:03Speaker 16: Lord?
- 35:04Speaker 9: Jes said, I'm.
- 35:06Speaker 34: Done, said I'm sure, No, Tim Dona, I'm no, Mama
- 35:27Speaker 34: did not.
- 35:28Speaker 9: It is cat out of the podcast. I didn't it good,
- 35:31Speaker 9: I'm nothing.
- 35:32Speaker 12: I'm a tala, Mama did not it is kick it?
- 35:35Speaker 9: Docay? What did it? Little nothing?
- 35:38Speaker 8: Amatarica turning and then told me the picture man an
- 35:44Speaker 8: done for Tama Loka lot.
- 35:47Speaker 9: Won't it bad? Don't Tama look a lot? Won't it
- 35:53Speaker 9: WoT them?
- 35:55Speaker 16: Look?
- 35:55Speaker 9: Holgay, how are you going?
- 36:12Speaker 16: You do?
- 36:13Speaker 10: Break? We have these horrorful day the cam in the
- 36:18Speaker 10: the mother there to that you know the more correctly.
- 36:21Speaker 9: But that's the board in the need to do arguin.
- 36:28Speaker 10: Under not known.
- 36:33Speaker 34: Agent got Holly said that.
- 36:41Speaker 9: The talk.
- 36:58Speaker 12: Can that a mother paid.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Folks. It's my distinct pleasure to invite my buddy into
- 37:29Speaker 5: the show. What's up, Regie? How are you, sir?
- 37:32Speaker 35: Good my fellow, how are you?
- 37:34Speaker 5: I'm doing all right, my fellow balt Punjabi, Hey, oh.
- 37:38Speaker 35: My god, same age roughly.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Roughly in l a. Kids running around, you know, running
- 37:47Speaker 5: around you.
- 37:47Speaker 35: Know the able to give you know it?
- 37:49Speaker 5: Yeah, I listen. I think that we are.
- 37:51Speaker 35: Running around and older folks walking slowly around.
- 37:55Speaker 5: That is the case. That is the case. This is
- 37:58Speaker 5: our time in life as we are sam with as
- 38:00Speaker 5: they call it, between these two worlds. And you know
- 38:04Speaker 5: we we've been big fans of your work through these years.
- 38:07Speaker 5: And you know, it's not easy being funny out there, rejieve,
- 38:11Speaker 5: But I'm starting to find that people are finding us
- 38:14Speaker 5: brown people funnier than they ever have before.
- 38:18Speaker 35: We've really diversified. It used to be just the emotion
- 38:21Speaker 35: of I don't even think it was an emotion of
- 38:23Speaker 35: a just intelligence. Of these guys are doctors and computer engineers,
- 38:26Speaker 35: but they can make us laugh too, without AI.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Without AI is the the operative part of all this.
- 38:34Speaker 5: You know, you know when you when you go out there,
- 38:37Speaker 5: you look at the scene here and you've seen you know,
- 38:41Speaker 5: we we all got so familiar with you in in
- 38:44Speaker 5: a viral moment there that where you were pretty much
- 38:47Speaker 5: in every South Asian person's conscious there as far as
- 38:51Speaker 5: what you were talking about about us and putting a
- 38:54Speaker 5: mirror to our community. And you know, it's been a
- 38:57Speaker 5: handful of years since then, what do you say, Hey,
- 39:00Speaker 5: what do you say about what we're doing out there?
- 39:03Speaker 35: I think generally we're making an impact. And look, it
- 39:07Speaker 35: has to start with doctors and engineers and safe stuff
- 39:11Speaker 35: like that, right, I mean, I got a degree in engineering.
- 39:13Speaker 35: That was the thing. You had to have a backup plan.
- 39:15Speaker 35: With a backup plan like that was the thing at
- 39:18Speaker 35: the time, And of course, I mean the irony of
- 39:21Speaker 35: it is that our parents were like, hey, go into
- 39:23Speaker 35: something that's the store shot, don't take risks. But I'm like,
- 39:26Speaker 35: you left India and neighboring countries to come here in
- 39:31Speaker 35: what it's probably the biggest risk to put the cake,
- 39:33Speaker 35: which is going to the other side of the planet.
- 39:35Speaker 35: And yet that it was like come here and don't
- 39:36Speaker 35: take any risks. But on the one hand, it's ironic,
- 39:39Speaker 35: But on the other hand, it's understandable because you're like, look,
- 39:41Speaker 35: they did already take this big risks. They know, you
- 39:43Speaker 35: know what the upsides and downsides are and going into
- 39:46Speaker 35: a source shot field like you know, I always joked
- 39:49Speaker 35: about how like doctors were the win and then like
- 39:53Speaker 35: lawyers were the first losers, you know what I mean,
- 39:55Speaker 35: Like if you were a lawyer, you lost, Like you
- 39:58Speaker 35: why became a doctor?
- 39:59Speaker 3: To become a doctor?
- 40:00Speaker 35: Like wait a second, I think a lawyer is a
- 40:01Speaker 35: great job, and it's like, yeah, become a doctor. The
- 40:06Speaker 35: rest of us are just we're just non doctors. But
- 40:08Speaker 35: you know, over time, our brains would move from left
- 40:11Speaker 35: to fight, and you know that we have become more
- 40:13Speaker 35: risk embracing as apostate perverts, and I think it's been
- 40:16Speaker 35: a great thing to see us side of us find
- 40:18Speaker 35: to coming to field them. If you look at India
- 40:19Speaker 35: Sports society, you're gonna have, you know, doctors that you're
- 40:22Speaker 35: gonna have entertainers were doctors. We have storytellers and so
- 40:25Speaker 35: it's time for us to bring our full self here
- 40:27Speaker 35: and that's what we're doing.
- 40:28Speaker 5: Yeah, well put sir, well put roggie if yes, okay,
- 40:35Speaker 5: well done, listen. I'm very excited about what's going on
- 40:39Speaker 5: here in the valley this weekend on Saturday. The event
- 40:43Speaker 5: itself is called Together We Can. It's a festival that's
- 40:47Speaker 5: really geared towards mental health and I really love it
- 40:51Speaker 5: when our South Asian community gets around this topic bickets
- 40:54Speaker 5: because it's an area that I don't think we as
- 40:56Speaker 5: a community kind of recognize and put out there as
- 40:59Speaker 5: much as we really really should. You know, I I
- 41:03Speaker 5: gather that you are involved in a panel that has
- 41:06Speaker 5: to deal with caregivers and the journey that caregivers go through,
- 41:11Speaker 5: and I know that on a personal level, you've been
- 41:13Speaker 5: through a bit of a challenge of your own, of course,
- 41:16Speaker 5: losing your father and now you're in a situation where
- 41:18Speaker 5: you're providing care for your mother and that's got to
- 41:22Speaker 5: be something to adjust to. Rajeev tell us about that
- 41:27Speaker 5: it is.
- 41:27Speaker 35: Yeah, No, I appreciate that, and I think that it is,
- 41:30Speaker 35: you know, taboo. There's a stigma, you know, and we
- 41:34Speaker 35: know that that's been talked a lot about in cases,
- 41:36Speaker 35: and that's good because the first step is awareness, right
- 41:38Speaker 35: to discuss that it is a taboo. Yeah, and what
- 41:41Speaker 35: are other people going to say? Et cetera, et cetera.
- 41:43Speaker 35: And then there's the irony, which has also been discussed about. Yeah,
- 41:46Speaker 35: but you know, uncles and aunties, moms and dad, they
- 41:48Speaker 35: go to zurus and sammies and fundits, and yet they're like, yeah,
- 41:52Speaker 35: don't go to like, you know, some goura or someone
- 41:54Speaker 35: who's like to t you about you know, mental health.
- 41:57Speaker 35: Well well yeah, but a second, I don't care whether
- 41:59Speaker 35: that was from comes from as long as we're taking
- 42:02Speaker 35: it into accounts.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it's really well put. And I think in this
- 42:08Speaker 5: case there are people that we can turn to in
- 42:10Speaker 5: these places that help us go through these things. The
- 42:13Speaker 5: panel that you're going to go over this weekend discusses,
- 42:16Speaker 5: of course, seniors experiences, experiences experiencing these challenges, but on firsthand,
- 42:24Speaker 5: but also as far as you know, what it takes
- 42:26Speaker 5: to support our seniors and how somebody really needs to
- 42:31Speaker 5: kind of put themselves aside as they do so, and
- 42:35Speaker 5: that in itself is quite an adjustment on a personal level.
- 42:38Speaker 5: And this panel goes into that a little bit this weekend.
- 42:42Speaker 5: You know, what do you expect people to take away
- 42:44Speaker 5: from this discussion?
- 42:46Speaker 35: You know, this one is called the cheerogivers journey caring
- 42:49Speaker 35: for others without losing yourself. You know, we called the
- 42:51Speaker 35: healing hands dilemma, and you mentioned the Sandwich generation. My
- 42:55Speaker 35: wife Chercha uses that term a lot of Sandwich generation.
- 42:58Speaker 35: And you know, I'm always careful to draw make broad generalizations,
- 43:03Speaker 35: you know, generally of course, but also you know, you
- 43:06Speaker 35: look at like, well, I haven't other generations been here before?
- 43:08Speaker 35: You're like, well, just to know, And I think that
- 43:10Speaker 35: when we're talking about the uniqueness of the South Asian community,
- 43:13Speaker 35: and you know, my parents coming here in nineteen seventy
- 43:16Speaker 35: and when.
- 43:17Speaker 5: Did your parents come here in the late eighties, mid eighties?
- 43:20Speaker 35: Yeah, okay, so you know, like sixties, seventies, eighties, And
- 43:23Speaker 35: now you know, we're losing folks from that time, the
- 43:26Speaker 35: true pioneers, and of course you know, scattered scots that
- 43:29Speaker 35: are work, you know, basis coming to this country for
- 43:31Speaker 35: you know, one hundred, one hundred and fifty even two
- 43:33Speaker 35: hundred years, some of our people right here in California, farming,
- 43:36Speaker 35: et cetera. But in terms of mass and what you're seeing,
- 43:39Speaker 35: you know, these issues that have surfaced in the South
- 43:42Speaker 35: Asian community for discussing them more. Losing my dad almost
- 43:46Speaker 35: exactly two years ago, the eighth of May twenty twenty four,
- 43:48Speaker 35: and actually the thirtieth of May, when this is happening,
- 43:51Speaker 35: will be twenty years to me here in La exactly
- 43:53Speaker 35: twenty years. Wow, So it's an era for me here
- 43:56Speaker 35: on my mom moved in with us after my dad's passed.
- 43:59Speaker 35: This has been pretty much exactly a year and a half.
- 44:01Speaker 35: And on balance, it's a huge net positive, you know,
- 44:04Speaker 35: having you know, my as Navine calls her, you know,
- 44:07Speaker 35: dad mont here and being able to teach him. She
- 44:10Speaker 35: grew up as a teacher, you know, that's her her
- 44:13Speaker 35: background as well, and it's been a huge net positive.
- 44:16Speaker 35: But does it come with pains, of course it does,
- 44:18Speaker 35: and you hear about you know, you know, like we
- 44:21Speaker 35: just make it work. You know, sub self out. We're
- 44:23Speaker 35: just going to start a way to like pull together.
- 44:24Speaker 35: But gosh, when everything's different. When my mom is a
- 44:27Speaker 35: strict and do vegetarian, you know, her sleeping habits or
- 44:30Speaker 35: eating habits, the way that she's social, the way that
- 44:33Speaker 35: she does everything, and she and I are very close.
- 44:34Speaker 35: But when you get down to breast packing past, make
- 44:36Speaker 35: it work. That's what I'm interested in. I'm not interested
- 44:39Speaker 35: in platitude like, well, we'll just make it work. It's like, Okay,
- 44:42Speaker 35: I understand that we have. That's the towels we have.
- 44:44Speaker 35: That's to keep. That's not what we're talking about. We're
- 44:46Speaker 35: talking about like, how do you bring your parents into
- 44:49Speaker 35: your social life? How do you have them grow and
- 44:52Speaker 35: continue into and in what they're doing. That's the stuff
- 44:56Speaker 35: that nitty gritty, the stuff that you have to do
- 44:57Speaker 35: day to day because of course, family is there when
- 44:59Speaker 35: it comes down the way, when it comes down to it,
- 45:01Speaker 35: I'm like, yeah, but it doesn't come down to it
- 45:03Speaker 35: every day. I need you your day to day and
- 45:05Speaker 35: those are hopefully that the bear.
- 45:07Speaker 5: Wow, that's incredible, Reggie, thank you so much for giving
- 45:10Speaker 5: your time to this panel and of course uh being
- 45:13Speaker 5: there to share your journey and I can't wait to
- 45:16Speaker 5: check out that panel overall and just the overall day,
- 45:18Speaker 5: My goodness, what an event overall. The festival is called
- 45:22Speaker 5: Together We Can. It's put together by the LA Department
- 45:25Speaker 5: of Mental Health and by Showbiz India and Reggie, thank
- 45:29Speaker 5: you so much for joining us today and thank you
- 45:31Speaker 5: for sharing all of this around your family and man,
- 45:34Speaker 5: thanks for giving this time this weekend to this event.
- 45:37Speaker 35: I'm honored to be a part of it. Thank you
- 45:38Speaker 35: for showcasing me and you everything you've done for me
- 45:41Speaker 35: over the years. It's great to be a part about
- 45:44Speaker 35: this and continue the thing we got going here.
- 45:46Speaker 5: Yeah, brother, much left to you. All right, guys, hang
- 45:48Speaker 5: on here and we'll be right.

- 48:35Speaker 5: give a shout out to him for sharing his personal
- 48:38Speaker 5: story with us here and specifically, I know that a
- 48:41Speaker 5: couple of years ago he was thrust into this new
- 48:43Speaker 5: role of being a caretaker for his mom after his
- 48:47Speaker 5: father passed away. I wanted to thank him for sharing
- 48:50Speaker 5: that story with us on the air and then taking
- 48:53Speaker 5: that and actually channeling it towards a panel discussion. It's
- 48:56Speaker 5: awesome of him. Now let's bring in Duita to the show.
