- 0:12Shannon Jean: One of the most underrated candies in the world.
- 0:15Dave Hamilton: I know.
- 0:17Dave Hamilton: They, I mean, we as humanity, but not we as you and me, have figured out a few
- 0:22Dave Hamilton: things over our time that are just terrible for us, and yet we cannot resist them. and uh yeah.
- 0:32Shannon Jean: It's just how good thing it only comes out once a year
- 0:34Dave Hamilton: Well i mean you can get candy corn anytime of year shan i.
- 0:36Shannon Jean: Understand not at my
- 0:37Dave Hamilton: House yeah fair same greetings folks and welcome to business brain the show

- 1:13Dave Hamilton: across your entire workforce it's cool check all that out we'll talk more in
- 1:17Dave Hamilton: depth about it in a little bit for now here in durham new hampshire i'm dave hamilton.
- 1:21Shannon Jean: And i'm shannon gene and today i'm up in calaveras county in the Sierra foothills
- 1:25Shannon Jean: at our river house, taking a few days up here to get some work done.
- 1:28Dave Hamilton: Nice.
- 1:29Shannon Jean: Happy to be here. Happy Friday I.
- 1:30Dave Hamilton: Friday I.
- 1:34Dave Hamilton: I have, I'm gonna make you wait on this one. Okay, happy to wait.
- 1:39Dave Hamilton: I have a skill that I built that I wanna talk about, but I do wanna share,
- 1:43Dave Hamilton: I liked the idea that we did on Wednesday where we shared some tips upfront.
- 1:47Dave Hamilton: And so the first tip that I wanna share is something that I realized I needed
- 1:52Dave Hamilton: to do and then did earlier this week.
- 1:54Dave Hamilton: Go into your scheduled agents and update the models that each of them uses.
- 2:02Dave Hamilton: If you have a scheduled, I know, right? If you started a scheduled agent like
- 2:06Dave Hamilton: in Claude using Opus 5, it's still using Opus 5.
- 2:13Shannon Jean: Can you update your instructions to tell it to keep up to date with the latest model?
- 2:18Dave Hamilton: Not the agent itself. You could probably do it with a, yeah.
- 2:23Dave Hamilton: Yeah, but I went in and all of mine were set to old agents and it was like,
- 2:27Dave Hamilton: oh man, it's like 5.5 is way more efficient.
- 2:29Dave Hamilton: But you know, and so I went in and just to every one of my scheduled agents
- 2:34Dave Hamilton: and the same quad code calls them routines, but it's the same thing.
- 2:39Dave Hamilton: And ChatGPT is kind of the same way, but just go check all of your agents and
- 2:44Dave Hamilton: make sure that they are using the model you want them to use.
- 2:48Dave Hamilton: And the reason I noticed this was,
- 2:51Dave Hamilton: I had used Fable to create, like, work on an idea. It was kind of a crazy idea
- 2:57Dave Hamilton: that I had. And I figured, well, why not? You know, I have the Claude Max plan.
- 3:01Dave Hamilton: Like, I should use Fable sometimes. So I used Fable to create this thing.
- 3:04Dave Hamilton: And then I realized, oh, wow. I looked at my usage. I'm like,
- 3:07Dave Hamilton: why am I using, like, I haven't used Fable for anything.
- 3:09Dave Hamilton: It was like, oh, the scheduled task inherits the agent that you used to create it, right?
- 3:16Dave Hamilton: Like the manager, the creator session that you use, the agent inherits that,
- 3:24Dave Hamilton: the scheduled task, which I call the agent, inherits that.
- 3:27Dave Hamilton: So that's when I realized and I was like, well, if that's true,
- 3:31Dave Hamilton: I should look at these other 12 that I have. And sure enough,
- 3:34Dave Hamilton: they were all on like old stuff. And I was like, yeah.
- 3:37Dave Hamilton: And some of them I dropped down. I was like, this agent's just a dumb little
- 3:40Dave Hamilton: thing that does a thing. It doesn't need opus. It can run on sonnet.
- 3:43Dave Hamilton: Like it's not going to matter.
- 3:45Shannon Jean: Yeah, I do that a lot too.
- 3:46Dave Hamilton: Yeah, that's good. So just be intentional about that. Yep.
- 3:50Dave Hamilton: It's cool. And then I it like we can't not talk about Black October.
- 3:55Dave Hamilton: Do you know what Black October.
- 3:56Shannon Jean: Shannon? I don't know Black October, dude. Right. Sure. Why don't you tell me?
- 3:59Dave Hamilton: Yeah, you probably do. Black October is to just is is a term that has been applied,
- 4:07Dave Hamilton: hopefully retroactively.
- 4:08Dave Hamilton: Although by the time we're recording this, maybe there's time for some some
- 4:11Dave Hamilton: more to describe this October 2026.
- 4:15Dave Hamilton: When lots of security issues have popped up that are...
- 4:22Shannon Jean: Like the PHP apocalypse?
- 4:24Dave Hamilton: Dude. God.
- 4:26Shannon Jean: Kevin just mentioned that.
- 4:27Dave Hamilton: Oh, man. Absolutely. I, on Wednesday last week...
- 4:33Dave Hamilton: We record this show on Mondays and Wednesdays I record Mac Geek Cab.
- 4:37Dave Hamilton: And so we were finished recording Mac Geek Cab and we record that at 9 a.m. Eastern.
- 4:42Dave Hamilton: We were finished at, you know, 1130 or whatever. And as soon as we finish,
- 4:46Dave Hamilton: I'm busy, you know, doing all the things to process the show,
- 4:50Dave Hamilton: which usually takes me like 30, 40 minutes or whatever.
- 4:53Dave Hamilton: And while I'm doing that, I see a text from one of my co-hosts, from Adam.
- 4:57Dave Hamilton: And it sends me that he sends me this thing that came out you know an hour and
- 5:01Dave Hamilton: 12 minutes prior that was like php is not safe.
- 5:05Shannon Jean: Yeah that's nuts
- 5:07Dave Hamilton: Dude and i'm like everybody uses it everything uses it wordpress which is what
- 5:12Dave Hamilton: we use you know for all of the 70.
- 5:14Shannon Jean: Of the websites in the
- 5:15Dave Hamilton: World yeah crazy exactly everything i've ever written on the web is in php,
- 5:20Dave Hamilton: and i know when i see this I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 5:24Dave Hamilton: no, we can't because the server that we host even business brain on is old.
- 5:32Dave Hamilton: It is my plan, and I already have the plan sketched out to replace it within
- 5:38Dave Hamilton: the next, probably the next six weeks here.
- 5:41Dave Hamilton: And we're going to replace it with many different things. Right now,
- 5:43Dave Hamilton: everything's on one monolithic server, and that's not the way you do things
- 5:47Dave Hamilton: anymore. This server's probably 10 years old. Sure.
- 5:50Dave Hamilton: But the problem is all the operating system on this server hasn't been updated
- 5:55Dave Hamilton: in a while. And if I did update the operating system, it would break everything.
- 5:58Dave Hamilton: And there's no reason to if we're going to just move, right?
- 6:00Dave Hamilton: So, yeah, everything's fine, except I knew that we were on the latest version
- 6:07Dave Hamilton: of PHP that was available for that server. Oh.
- 6:11Dave Hamilton: And so and I also knew on Wednesday that I had 17 meetings stacked up all day
- 6:18Dave Hamilton: after I finished publishing the podcast.
- 6:20Dave Hamilton: So I pointed Claude at my Claude code at my terminal and I'm like, here's the thing.
- 6:25Dave Hamilton: You got to fix it. And it's like, right, there's no there's no package available to fix this.
- 6:30Dave Hamilton: It's like i can compile a new php for your server and i'm like uh-huh yipper
- 6:35Dave Hamilton: that's what you're gonna do and like all day it's just doing its thing and every
- 6:40Dave Hamilton: now and then it's like i need you to run this command as root and i would look
- 6:42Dave Hamilton: at the command and be like yolo sure okay
- 6:45Dave Hamilton: like and by the time like within a couple of hours everything was patched up
- 6:49Dave Hamilton: and now the server is more secure than it's ever been,
- 6:53Dave Hamilton: and nice and what happened was that there was a bug in php.
- 6:59Dave Hamilton: That has been known for years but it was also understood that no human would
- 7:07Dave Hamilton: have the time or the resources,
- 7:11Dave Hamilton: to like exploit it exploit it yeah but that we are in a different world now
- 7:17Dave Hamilton: yeah and so the the the bug is easily exploitable by,
- 7:23Dave Hamilton: by a jailbroken ai agent like you couldn't get your you couldn't convince claude
- 7:27Dave Hamilton: to do this for you probably right but if you have a jailbroken,
- 7:31Dave Hamilton: llm then then you could and uh and so we used ai to they
- 7:37Dave Hamilton: used ai to create the fix for it which is right there it's the same game of
- 7:41Dave Hamilton: cat and mouse that we've always played black october is a nice press term it's
- 7:46Dave Hamilton: fine i get it i understand why And it definitely changed the course of my Wednesday.
- 7:52Dave Hamilton: However, by, by, you know, certainly before quitting time on Wednesday,
- 7:56Dave Hamilton: the problem was solved for me.
- 7:57Dave Hamilton: And for most people, it's the same game of cat and mouse that we've been playing for decades.
- 8:04Dave Hamilton: It's not like this isn't doomsday folks. It's just, everybody's using different tools. That's it.
- 8:11Shannon Jean: Different tools to find the problems, but also different tools to fix them. Right.
- 8:15Dave Hamilton: So, yeah. Yeah. That's great. It's not, it's not doomsday.
- 8:20Dave Hamilton: And I know a lot of people want to say it is, it's like, no,
- 8:22Dave Hamilton: it's just, this has always been true.
- 8:25Dave Hamilton: Now we have different tools. And if you choose not to use AI as one of your
- 8:31Dave Hamilton: tools and you're in the server administration game, well, now you're,
- 8:36Dave Hamilton: now you're, you're in a, in a bad spot.
- 8:38Dave Hamilton: Yeah, exactly. But otherwise, yeah, it's not a big deal. Cool. Yeah.
- 8:44Dave Hamilton: You had, you had one thing you had, you connected with crock pot. Yeah. Shannon. Yeah.
- 8:49Shannon Jean: I, yeah. So one of the things I've, I start over there, I've been using crock
- 8:53Shannon Jean: pot a lot and I read about, uh,
- 8:56Shannon Jean: a method to, to connect your crock pot to all your Apple walled garden stuff,
- 9:02Shannon Jean: like your iMessages, you know, your iCal, uh,
- 9:07Shannon Jean: everything. It just opens everything up.
- 9:09Shannon Jean: Um, and so I've been searching for this kind of side.
- 9:14Shannon Jean: And I've been searching for this text that my daughter sent me for years and I couldn't find it.
- 9:20Shannon Jean: And so I just always like, okay, whatever, it's gone.
- 9:23Shannon Jean: And then I installed this bot, which we're going to link to in the notes.
- 9:29Shannon Jean: I posted it to you in Slack.
- 9:32Shannon Jean: And it went in, connected to
- 9:38Shannon Jean: all my texts and came up and...
- 9:42Shannon Jean: Think account, you have to give it full disk access,
- 9:46Dave Hamilton: Okay? Yeah, it makes sense. Right, that's the only way that it would work.
- 9:50Shannon Jean: And it has to connect on your Mac, because that's where the repository of your messages lives.
- 9:55Shannon Jean: Hopefully, you connect your Mac to your phone, so you can see all those messages.
- 9:59Dave Hamilton: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Messages in the cloud is what Apple calls it. Messages in the cloud.
- 10:03Shannon Jean: Right?
- 10:04Dave Hamilton: Right.
- 10:04Shannon Jean: And it, so it pulled 423,845 messages, uh, from my iMessages.
- 10:13Shannon Jean: And since August of 2015, I don't know why it stopped there.
- 10:17Shannon Jean: I don't know if it'd go back any further, but it, it also refreshes every, every Sunday
- 10:22Dave Hamilton: It pulls it in the repository.
- 10:24Shannon Jean: And it makes it in, you know, incredible to be able to search any message basically
- 10:30Shannon Jean: you've ever sent in, in texting.
- 10:33Shannon Jean: And so I've got it the message lives on your Mac that's not in the cloud the
- 10:37Shannon Jean: archive and everything and it pointed out to me it's like your thread with Renee
- 10:41Shannon Jean: which is my wife is by far the biggest with about
- 10:44Shannon Jean: 135 thousand texts followed by Ethan and Skyler which is my son and my daughter
- 10:49Shannon Jean: but the text that I was looking for that it came up I said hey
- 10:55Shannon Jean: go ahead and search I'm looking for a message from Skyler something about I don't know
- 11:02Shannon Jean: family, unique, and it found it.
- 11:04Shannon Jean: It says, oh, on Father's Day 2022, Skylar wrote to you that said,
- 11:09Shannon Jean: the more people I meet, the more I realize how unique our family is and how
- 11:12Shannon Jean: grateful I am to have you as a dad.
- 11:14Shannon Jean: And I was like, dude, you know, I really have been looking for that for a couple
- 11:19Shannon Jean: of years, a few years, because I was like, man, I remember she sent this and I wanted to share it. But
- 11:25Shannon Jean: it's incredible to link it into that. And it's just one more thing on my Mac
- 11:31Shannon Jean: that I can use to search for data.
- 11:32Shannon Jean: I'm using it for connections, for people that I'm like, I think I sent that guy a text last year.
- 11:37Shannon Jean: What did we talk about? It found a meeting with another guy that I had scheduled
- 11:42Shannon Jean: last January. It pulled it up this morning and I was like, yep,
- 11:45Shannon Jean: we talked about this. That's my warm intro.
- 11:47Dave Hamilton: I'm going to use that.
- 11:49Shannon Jean: So if you want to find it, just come to businessbrain.show.
- 11:53Shannon Jean: This show notes, episode 801, and we'll link the GrokBot template to you so
- 11:58Shannon Jean: you can download it and use it if you want.
- 12:00Dave Hamilton: Love it. It's awesome. There's got to be a way to do that with more agents.
- 12:04Shannon Jean: Any of them. Oh, yeah. I'm sure you could do it with any of them.
- 12:07Shannon Jean: The key is giving it full disk access. Yeah. A lot of this stuff you have to. Yeah.
- 12:13Shannon Jean: But just ask Claude, ask if you use ChatGPT, whatever, to pull it up and tell you how to do it.
- 12:19Shannon Jean: And it's been a game changer for me.
- 12:21Dave Hamilton: Amazing. It's great. I love it. I love it. All right.
- 12:25Dave Hamilton: I built a skill yesterday, in fact, that I want to talk about here.
- 12:29Dave Hamilton: I think everybody needs to learn how to build skills. And we're going to talk about that.
- 12:34Dave Hamilton: In a minute, because the next thing we want to do is tell you about our sponsors.
- 12:39Dave Hamilton: Because look, when somebody leaves your company, you've got a checklist, right?
- 12:43Dave Hamilton: You kill their email or at least change the password, right?
- 12:46Dave Hamilton: You change the password or pull them out of Slack.
- 12:48Dave Hamilton: You rotate all the other shared passwords that everybody else has, right?
- 12:52Dave Hamilton: And then you're done, right? Except what about the months of company research,
- 12:58Dave Hamilton: client details, and internal docs they fed into an AI tool on their personal account?
- 13:04Dave Hamilton: That's still out there and they still have it right that's the blind spot that
- 13:08Dave Hamilton: our sponsor nord layer ai scout closes
- 13:11Dave Hamilton: it's the visibility layer for enterprise ai it shows you which ai tools your
- 13:17Dave Hamilton: team is actually using across the web and desktop it catches sensitive data
- 13:21Dave Hamilton: source code api keys customer lists
- 13:24Dave Hamilton: before it reaches a public model
- 13:27Dave Hamilton: it keeps a searchable audit trail of who used what and when.
- 13:31Dave Hamilton: And it'll tell you whether the seats that you're paying for
- 13:35Dave Hamilton: are actually being used or whether you're funding your employees side hustles
- 13:39Dave Hamilton: with your company ai budget see every ai interaction decide what happens next
- 13:44Dave Hamilton: that's the charmed life right
- 13:46Dave Hamilton: no surprises on offboarding day and that's where our sponsor nord layer ai scout can help
- 13:53Dave Hamilton: find out what your team is actually doing with AI at nordlayer.com slash AI
- 13:59Dave Hamilton: dash scout slash business brain.
- 14:01Dave Hamilton: We'll put that link in the show notes. So it's super easy for you to just click
- 14:04Dave Hamilton: and check it out. You're going to want to.
- 14:06Dave Hamilton: It's very cool what they're doing there. And our thanks to Nordlayer AI scout
- 14:11Dave Hamilton: for sponsoring this episode.
- 14:12Dave Hamilton: And, you know, founders ship version two of everything, right?
- 14:15Dave Hamilton: The product, the pricing page, the podcast, the onboarding flow, right?
- 14:19Dave Hamilton: Most of us are still running version one of ourselves, though.
- 14:24Dave Hamilton: There's the guy you are right now, right? And there's the guy you know you could be.
- 14:29Dave Hamilton: Weight loss by HIMS is built to close that gap.
- 14:32Dave Hamilton: Access to a range of FDA-approved GLP-1 medications, including the WeGovie pill and the WeGovie pen.
- 14:39Dave Hamilton: With WeGovie, you can lose up to 20% of your body weight.
- 14:43Dave Hamilton: In a clinical trial, people lost
- 14:45Dave Hamilton: an average of 14% body weight at 64 weeks alongside diet and exercise.
- 14:51Dave Hamilton: And it's a real plan, an online consultation with a licensed provider,
- 14:54Dave Hamilton: plus nutrition and lifestyle guidance, not just a prescription.
- 14:58Dave Hamilton: And hey, good luck, right?
- 14:59Dave Hamilton: I've personally been in beta since like 2017, and the release notes just say minor fixes, right?
- 15:06Dave Hamilton: That's the Charmed Life, putting yourself on the roadmap, Be prepared,

- 15:46Dave Hamilton: Go check it out. And our thanks to HIMSS for sponsoring this episode.
- 15:50Dave Hamilton: All right. I mentioned I built a skill.
- 15:54Shannon Jean: Yeah. Tell us about it, Dave.
- 15:55Dave Hamilton: Yeah. And Shannon, you actually predicted what this skill was in our pre-show.
- 16:02Dave Hamilton: I have been producing four podcast episodes a week for a long time since we started this show.
- 16:10Dave Hamilton: Because we do two of this. And I don't fully produce this one.
- 16:12Dave Hamilton: Shannon does, let's say, half of the production. I mean, yeah.
- 16:16Dave Hamilton: Uh and then for gig gab and mac geek gab i do the entire production,
- 16:23Dave Hamilton: and i've leveraged ai for parts of this for a long time i've been feeding the,
- 16:29Dave Hamilton: chapters and then eventually the transcript in to have it build me to write
- 16:34Dave Hamilton: me the blog post right me too yeah yeah exactly and and and then to help me
- 16:40Dave Hamilton: you know workshop title ideas and the the,
- 16:43Dave Hamilton: wordpress like meta description tag and you know various other things recently,
- 16:50Dave Hamilton: i say within the last six months i built a skill to have it uh generate images for me,
- 16:56Dave Hamilton: but what i do with that image for like mac i use it for mac geek specifically
- 17:01Dave Hamilton: and the reason i built a skill for it was because i think that was the only
- 17:05Dave Hamilton: reason i was paying gemini every month uh for because nano banana pro is a great image generator,
- 17:12Dave Hamilton: and 20 bucks a month for an image you know for what five let's say five images
- 17:17Dave Hamilton: a month that would cost me a quarter each didn't make any sense at all you know
- 17:21Dave Hamilton: sure uh maybe 12 cents each or something so uh,
- 17:24Dave Hamilton: so i built a skill so i could just use api credits and save a bunch of money.
- 17:28Dave Hamilton: Even then, I wasn't finishing the image. It was just building,
- 17:32Dave Hamilton: like, the changing parts of the image. But then where the title goes and.
- 17:40Dave Hamilton: The episode number or whatever that you put above and below,
- 17:43Dave Hamilton: I would do that manually in Pixelmator.
- 17:45Dave Hamilton: Because it's how I've always done it, right? And you're in the workflow.
- 17:49Dave Hamilton: And I'm like, well, Claude could do that. Like, Claude's really good at that.
- 17:53Dave Hamilton: Claude's terrible at like creating, being creative about images,
- 17:59Dave Hamilton: but it's great at laying out things. In fact, it's arguably better than others
- 18:03Dave Hamilton: because it's not going to try
- 18:05Dave Hamilton: and like rethink it for you. It's just going to do what you tell it to do.
- 18:08Dave Hamilton: And so I started heading down that path and it was like, yeah,
- 18:11Dave Hamilton: all I need is like the, whatever you want the raw image to be.
- 18:14Dave Hamilton: And if you want it to be me generating it, great.
- 18:16Dave Hamilton: For um for mac geek gab i i use an ai generated image for gig gab i usually
- 18:22Dave Hamilton: take a picture of like a screen grab of the person the guest that i have or
- 18:26Dave Hamilton: whatever and put that in so it's like yeah you just need to give me that and then
- 18:29Dave Hamilton: and then i can create that from there and i was like all right well.
- 18:33Dave Hamilton: But then i use these two other engines one is called wordpress and then another
- 18:37Dave Hamilton: is called auphonic wordpress i think we all know what it does publishes the
- 18:41Dave Hamilton: website auphonic is this custom engine that.
- 18:46Dave Hamilton: General that takes the audio uh crunches it down into an mp3 adds in like the
- 18:53Dave Hamilton: artwork and all the meta tags and then uploads it to where we want and it's
- 18:56Dave Hamilton: great we love it and it normalizes the levels and all those things and,
- 18:59Dave Hamilton: uh and i'm like can we do we are there mcp connectors for both of those and
- 19:03Dave Hamilton: it's like well there's a plugin from wordpress that lets you have an mcp connector
- 19:08Dave Hamilton: for wordpress alphonic doesn't have an mcp connector they have an api though
- 19:13Dave Hamilton: oh and it's like i could build you a local mcp connector that that does that
- 19:19Dave Hamilton: work and i'm like great go ahead and do that,
- 19:22Dave Hamilton: and i because i because i love you shannon i told it build this in a way that
- 19:28Dave Hamilton: it has instructions so another person,
- 19:32Dave Hamilton: with their agent could,
- 19:34Dave Hamilton: inherit this if all i have to do is invite you to the private github repo that i built,
- 19:39Dave Hamilton: for it and uh and and then i really talked through and like Like when I say
- 19:44Dave Hamilton: I did all this, I literally did this on the couch maybe 30 hours ago.
- 19:50Dave Hamilton: So I had not tested it today until today.
- 19:54Dave Hamilton: But I just talked through my workflow knowing that I was going to miss a step here or there. Right.
- 20:00Dave Hamilton: Sure. But it knows my workflow because it's kind of alongside me for a lot of it.
- 20:05Dave Hamilton: And I said, I want to build a skill for each of my podcasts because things are
- 20:09Dave Hamilton: different. Like with Business Brain, as I mentioned, I don't do the full production.
- 20:14Dave Hamilton: You do parts of it but for Mac GeekGab and GigGab I have a different workflow,
- 20:19Dave Hamilton: they're all slightly different and I said I want to build one for each of them
- 20:23Dave Hamilton: here's what I do that's the same for all of them and then here's what's unique
- 20:28Dave Hamilton: about each of you know each one or whatever and we talked through it a little bit and it was very,
- 20:33Dave Hamilton: you know just one of those AI conversations it was like alright I think I got
- 20:36Dave Hamilton: this and it built the skill.
- 20:39Dave Hamilton: Two hours before we recorded Business Brain today was when I started recording today's GigGap.
- 20:47Dave Hamilton: Now, normally for GigGap, I record for about maybe an hour and 15.
- 20:53Dave Hamilton: And then that's the show that takes me the longest to produce because it's always
- 20:56Dave Hamilton: different. There's a guest.
- 20:58Dave Hamilton: You know, it's not, I can't just, it's not formulaic.
- 21:01Dave Hamilton: And that one usually takes me about 45 minutes to an hour to produce.
- 21:06Dave Hamilton: So I finished and I invoked the skill. now i knew that i needed to go and do
- 21:11Dave Hamilton: the screen grab so i could grab the actual picture so it wasn't like i'm not
- 21:15Dave Hamilton: going to leave it up to ai where it's going to find an image of somebody picking
- 21:18Dave Hamilton: their nose or whatever right yeah and and so i did that,
- 21:21Dave Hamilton: and i fed it to it and i fed it the transcript of the episode which stream marriage
- 21:25Dave Hamilton: grabs and and of course the you know that image,
- 21:29Dave Hamilton: and told it to go and i said since it's our first time doing this please tell
- 21:36Dave Hamilton: me what you're going to do before you do it and it was like yeah makes perfect sense and,
- 21:41Dave Hamilton: and it you know it there were a couple things where it was like ah i forgot
- 21:44Dave Hamilton: to put this in the workflow and i was like
- 21:46Dave Hamilton: okay well great do you want me to add that to the workflow i'm like well do
- 21:48Dave Hamilton: it first let's get it right then add it to the workflow great gig gab is now
- 21:52Dave Hamilton: published ready to go for for monday's episode i did almost nothing on it,
- 21:58Dave Hamilton: that's great the wednesday's business brain episode is ready for you to take
- 22:03Dave Hamilton: over and i did almost nothing,
- 22:08Dave Hamilton: um i mean i fed it what i needed to feed it and and it did the rest um yeah.
- 22:13Shannon Jean: That's great i can't wait i can't wait to use it and that's the beauty of all this stuff is
- 22:18Shannon Jean: Thinking about what is the best use of your time.
- 22:21Dave Hamilton: That's it.
- 22:21Shannon Jean: What has the biggest impact on your business, your day-to-day work, or your personal life?
- 22:29Shannon Jean: And offloading those things that are not the best use of your time.
- 22:35Shannon Jean: That's it. I want to spend more time with my family. I've got to do all these
- 22:38Shannon Jean: other things. I want to spend time creating content. I want to talk to my members
- 22:42Shannon Jean: and my reseller mastermind.
- 22:44Shannon Jean: I don't want to be pushing buttons, moving things, upload, this kind of stuff.
- 22:47Shannon Jean: No. And I want to automate that as much as as possible. So it's just a great use case.
- 22:53Dave Hamilton: Yeah. Now, time wise, the certainly the gig gab one and I'm sure the Mac gig
- 22:58Dave Hamilton: gab one will save me time.
- 23:00Dave Hamilton: The first time that I use them, the business brain one, you know,
- 23:05Dave Hamilton: Claude's not like I don't run Claude in fast mode.
- 23:10Dave Hamilton: So I don't take advantage of the speed that it could have. I'm at like normal
- 23:15Dave Hamilton: speed, the normal sort of sloth-like pacing of Claude doing its thing, you know, whatever. But,
- 23:23Dave Hamilton: it has eliminated the opportunity for human error.
- 23:27Dave Hamilton: Certainly there's the opportunity for AI error, which I'm sure we'll see at some point.
- 23:31Dave Hamilton: But you and I had a conversation between the episodes where I was just like
- 23:35Dave Hamilton: every now and then it would ask me a question. I would answer the question and
- 23:38Dave Hamilton: it would just do the thing.
- 23:39Dave Hamilton: And then i i obviously spot checked it in in auphonic and wordpress and i'm
- 23:43Dave Hamilton: like oh you missed this thing in wordpress it's like i didn't know i was supposed
- 23:46Dave Hamilton: to do that i'm like well now you do and it's like you want me to update the
- 23:48Dave Hamilton: skill i'm like i do you know and so like it it's gonna get better over time as these things do.
- 23:54Shannon Jean: But yeah that's awesome i mean that would save me at a minimum uh
- 24:00Shannon Jean: 30 minutes a week. Maybe more. Sometimes more.
- 24:05Shannon Jean: Because a lot of the stuff you're talking about, I'm doing manually.
- 24:08Shannon Jean: You're like cutting, doing this, doing that. That's a big deal.
- 24:12Dave Hamilton: Yeah. It's a big deal. I know. Yeah, it's pretty good.
- 24:14Shannon Jean: And the mental load.
- 24:16Dave Hamilton: It's the mental load. Even if it doesn't save time. Because this one didn't
- 24:21Dave Hamilton: save time. It was the same amount of time that we would normally spend between episodes.
- 24:25Dave Hamilton: That might get faster over time. But I was able to stay engaged with you.
- 24:29Dave Hamilton: I wasn't like in this hole of, of this. And this was the first time that it
- 24:34Dave Hamilton: was using this skill. Right. Cause it's the first time we're doing this, but yeah, worked fine.
- 24:38Dave Hamilton: That's awesome. Great. Yeah, man. That's huge.
- 24:42Shannon Jean: I think that that's it is, is eliminating these tasks that, uh,
- 24:47Shannon Jean: especially if you just find yourself doing it over,
- 24:48Dave Hamilton: It's the grunt work.
- 24:51Shannon Jean: I can't stand it, man. And I get bored with it and I'm like,
- 24:54Shannon Jean: Oh, whatever. I got to do this again. I want to do new things.
- 24:56Shannon Jean: I want to challenge and I'm curious about, I want to learn something new.
- 25:00Shannon Jean: I don't want to go do this every single, you know, every week.
- 25:02Dave Hamilton: There is, I will say though, um,
- 25:07Dave Hamilton: And I'm certainly saying this about myself and making it generic advice,
- 25:12Dave Hamilton: but we need to be careful how enamored with the process of making everything efficient we become.
- 25:22Dave Hamilton: Because when you're enamored with that process, what I wind up spending all
- 25:27Dave Hamilton: my time doing is making everything more efficient and not actually going and doing.
- 25:33Dave Hamilton: Right. Like, yeah, that's not actually what's happening for me.
- 25:36Dave Hamilton: But but there is that temptation. It's like, oh, I just I need to put Claude
- 25:41Dave Hamilton: down now and go do my work. Now, my work is going to rely on Claude,
- 25:45Dave Hamilton: but it's two different uses of Claude.
- 25:47Dave Hamilton: Right. What I did yesterday on the couch with Claude was this obsession where
- 25:52Dave Hamilton: I spent those probably all told maybe 90 minutes like it's going to pay off by within a week.
- 25:58Dave Hamilton: But still, I spent, you know, 90 minutes where I was focused on this and like
- 26:04Dave Hamilton: thinking about it and tweaking it and all those things. And that's very satisfying time for me.
- 26:10Dave Hamilton: But that in and of itself is not productive. Right.
- 26:15Dave Hamilton: It now is productive. But if I decided to sit down and tweak that,
- 26:20Dave Hamilton: like, oh, I'm going to wait and get it perfect and get it perfect.
- 26:22Dave Hamilton: It's like, no, I have to use it tomorrow at 2 p.m. Eastern or 3 p.m.
- 26:26Dave Hamilton: Whenever I finish the recording.
- 26:29Shannon Jean: And I still think there's a lot of things you need to do manually before you turn them over.
- 26:33Dave Hamilton: Yes. Like this workflow, I know by the back of my hand.
- 26:39Shannon Jean: The manual part, like I tell people all the time, it's like,
- 26:41Shannon Jean: you really got to like understand the research that you're going to have this device do.
- 26:47Dave Hamilton: It's the idiot intern.
- 26:49Shannon Jean: Yeah. You need to understand, like to really tell it. You can't just say,
- 26:54Shannon Jean: go find all this stuff out and then just always rely on it. You need to understand it. Yeah.
- 26:58Dave Hamilton: Yeah. That's true. Yeah.
- 27:00Shannon Jean: What do you think the big takeaway is for this episode,
- 27:03Dave Hamilton: Dave? Huh? I'm looking. I'm looking.
- 27:06Dave Hamilton: I mean, connecting your agent to everything, your email, your iMessage,
- 27:11Dave Hamilton: I think that's a big deal.
- 27:13Dave Hamilton: But I also think building, I had never had it build a skill before.
- 27:19Dave Hamilton: And it has offered to, like doing things. And I'm like, yeah, sure.
- 27:23Dave Hamilton: But like the skill, I have to invoke. Like I type slash business brain episode
- 27:28Dave Hamilton: now. And it goes and does the thing.
- 27:31Shannon Jean: Yeah, I think that's great too. For me personally, I think connecting the agents
- 27:36Shannon Jean: to all the things and to it, we talked about this a little last week.
- 27:40Shannon Jean: It's getting access to all of your data.
- 27:43Dave Hamilton: It's the context.
- 27:44Shannon Jean: That was much more difficult to access before.
- 27:48Dave Hamilton: Yeah.
- 27:49Shannon Jean: You know, and so it's kind of like when you, when they, what was the first app
- 27:53Shannon Jean: before they indexed the Mac? Was it Sherlock? Yeah. Something like that.
- 27:56Shannon Jean: Yeah. That was a game changer.
- 27:58Shannon Jean: Yeah. And I think the agents connected to all your stuff is a game changer.
- 28:01Shannon Jean: I agree. That's my pick for good.
- 28:03Dave Hamilton: No, that's mine too. Because like today, I don't want to discount what we just
- 28:08Dave Hamilton: spent 10 minutes talking about. No, me too. But today, building a skill I think is super important.
- 28:14Dave Hamilton: But I also think a year from now, you're not going to have to think about telling
- 28:19Dave Hamilton: your agent to build the skill. It's just going to do it.
- 28:21Dave Hamilton: But it's not going to do it if it can't see all of your data. So that's the key.
- 28:27Shannon Jean: So I uploaded that Apple desk skill to Slack. Dave will put it in our show notes.
- 28:32Shannon Jean: At businessbrain.show.
- 28:34Dave Hamilton: I'm not seeing it in our Slack.
- 28:36Shannon Jean: So I will ask you for it. Oh, I just got some sort of... Oh, wait, sorry. Wrong one.
- 28:41Dave Hamilton: But we'll put that there, and then we're going to expand this idea for you in
- 28:47Dave Hamilton: our business blueprints at businessbrain.show slash blueprint,
- 28:51Dave Hamilton: and that way you can go and download this one. It's a full business plan, is what it is.
- 28:56Dave Hamilton: So go download that, and then keep living that charmed life.
- 29:00Dave Hamilton: Have a great weekend, and we'll see you next week.
- 29:02Shannon Jean: See ya.
