- 0:00I want to, but I can't clip that for sure. It's there's no,
- 0:03I'm not doing it. I'm not gonna do that. I don't know.
- 0:08If we ever do get monetized, well, that will get us demonetized,
- 0:12demonized. Don't produce you Tube. No, Yeah, I did that.
- 0:20That's great, don't pron Oh and welcome to made the review be with
- 0:33you with Nick and Joe. I'm Joe, and today we're talking about Loki
- 0:40season one, episode one, Glorious Purpose, don't wait sorry, Season two,
- 0:46episode six, Glorious Purpose. Nick. Never before have I wished that
- 0:53we had done this podcast like years ago, like when Loki season one had
- 0:57going on, because I absolutely would have just replayed the track of me doing
- 1:03that right now just to like get our Aura Boros going. Just would have
- 1:08loved that. But you know that's that's not it's not what we do.
- 1:12We don't. We can't time slip, and you know time for us is
- 1:18hindsight. Hindsight's twenty twenty. So how about that? How about that?
- 1:22Help about that? Oh? What a fantastically done episode. I don't even
- 1:30know where to begin, Okay, so like real quick notes here, So
- 1:37this is a first for Nick and I we are coming off the heels of
- 1:42this episode. I think each of us probably like about ninety minutes after having
- 1:47watched it. Is that that's all right? Yeah, so we are fresh
- 1:52fresher of them. We were for Guardians of the Galaxy three, which I
- 1:53think that was a twenty four hour turnaround A lot quicker here. And yeah,
- 2:00Nick, I'm I'm in a similar boat to you. I am.
- 2:04I'm pretty jazzed from this episode. Uh this this ended in pretty much,
- 2:09uh, the way that I hoped, Yeah, the way I hoped.
- 2:15You predicted it, Yeah, you had you called it, you absolutely called
- 2:19the ending. But it was. It was even more fantastic than I expected.
- 2:24So let's let's uh, let's let's just hit it from the beginning,
- 2:28right, So okay, okay man. We opened. We open with uh
- 2:34Loki time slipping back to the moment before the Loom, or rather the moment
- 2:38that Victor Tomley is walking down the stairs to try and save the Loom from
- 2:47from destruction. Basically, well, actually that's not true. It was it
- 2:53was to save the Loom from overloading, because not, it wasn't the Loom
- 2:57wasn't gonna just in that moment the loom Is and what breaks. It's the
- 3:01the timelines overload and rip a hole in Everything's just now I'm already confused.
- 3:08But so that's actually I feel like that's what's so amazing and beautiful about this
- 3:15episode. This episode has so much going on in it, but at the
- 3:19same time, as like wonderfully complex as it is, the actual like plot
- 3:25line of this episode is probably like one of the most simple plot lines of
- 3:30like all twelve episodes of this series. It's literally just can Loki stop the
- 3:37end of time? And like, that's that's the whole episode, right,
- 3:40Like it's him just trying every combination he can come up with. And I
- 3:46love how in the episode they he starts with like the smallest amounts of time
- 3:52that he's trying to make it at work, right Like at the very beginning,
- 3:54it's like, Okay, how quick can I explain Victor timely the direction
- 4:00because thirty seconds quicker is gonna be enough to He's trying to buy seconds,
- 4:05Like, yeah, he's buying seconds at the beginning, and then he starts
- 4:09to buy minutes, and then he's buying days, and then he's buying then
- 4:13he's buying centuries and becoming a well renowned engineer and businessists and quantum businesssts like
- 4:19unbelievable. So I want to I want to highlight that moment. There were
- 4:25a couple there were a couple of times in this episode where like I felt
- 4:29myself go oh, like more than once and that moment the centuries like yes
- 4:36later, yeah, the que card for centuries later. That was one of
- 4:41those moments for me. You know what, Some heroes sacrifice themselves for the
- 4:46greater good of the universe and they die with a snap. Other heroes study
- 4:54physics for hundreds of years to save everything. You tell me what's harder.
- 5:00I know what my answer would be. I don't want to study physics for
- 5:03hundreds of years. That sounds like hell. It's so like I mean,
- 5:10obviously there's a bunch of different things in between that happened before that, but
- 5:13it's really just the nitty gritty of it is just like, you know,
- 5:17trying to buy time to figure out how to stop the branches from overloading the
- 5:26loom and ripping a hole in time, right, that's what he's trying to
- 5:30do, and having to travel back one hundred hundreds of years just to be
- 5:38able to study enough of physics to be able to build the right device.
- 5:44Is just like an incredible plot line. And now Loki is like one of
- 5:47the smartest people in the universe, dude, Right, so when this show
- 5:54forward, he's one of the smartest movement in the universe. When with the
- 5:58conclusion of this show, which I I think we can safely assume that's it.
- 6:01There is no there's not going to be a Loki season three. It
- 6:04doesn't seem like it's an interesting point already. That's a good point too,
- 6:09Well, we'll think about it. At the end of Loki season one,
- 6:13we got that mid credit scene where someone stamps like a pile of papers and
- 6:17you get Loki will return in season two. Right, we didn't get that
- 6:23stamp no approval, no approval for season three. But I wanted to get
- 6:28back to what you were saying. Yeah, Loki being one of the smartest
- 6:31people in the MCU. I think he's also now the most powerful character in
- 6:40the MCU. There's no one like he did it. He's everything. He's
- 6:45quite literally stronger than thanals within six Infinity Stones. Oh, it's child's play.
- 6:53Now, child's play. It's unbelievable, which I imagine is going to
- 6:58boil very well for the multiversal war that is on the way. I'm so
- 7:04excited the fact that that is like solidified and it's like, hey, guess
- 7:10what, guys, Loki chose to believe Sylvie and believe in Sylvie and believe
- 7:16that free will should be what's decided. And because of that, hundreds of
- 7:21different versions of he Here Remains are coming and it's gonna get crazy. I
- 7:29think the moment now that I'm looking forward to most in the entire MCU is
- 7:35this has to happen. It'll either be in uh in the King movie with
- 7:43the Avengers, which the name of that is Escaping Me, King Kingmore King
- 7:48Dynasty, Thank you Yeah, King Dynasty Avengers or Secret Wars Avengers. There's
- 7:55definitely gonna be a moment where Thor is only reintroduced to Loki and like it's
- 8:03it's just gotta be this moment of like, uh uh, are you kidding
- 8:07me? Like what, You're never actually gonna die? Are you? Like
- 8:09it's never actually gonna happen. I cannot wait for that. Well, but
- 8:15here's the thing, because of all the timelines now just being run, they're
- 8:20like just like there's millions now right, Like they're all all over the place.
- 8:26Like that means there's also a ton of different versions of Loki, So
- 8:28like Thor might have that moment, but it might be with a different like
- 8:33four different Lokis before it's his actual brother that he knows, the Thor that
- 8:35we know, right, because like now there's gonna be there's a Thor in
- 8:41all these timeline like not maybe in everyone, but we're gonna have like it's
- 8:46gonna be ridiculous, Like we're gonna have multiple versions of these superheroes allegedly and
- 8:54it's just gonna get wild. I don't know how they're gonna keep it all
- 8:56like consisting it straight not confusing. I'm already confused. Yeah, this episode
- 9:07alone, I was amazed with how well they kept track of everything was done
- 9:13so well. Yeah, with how out of order everything is shot. It's
- 9:16so interesting, so cool. This is another for me at least, this
- 9:20is another home run for same directors that have been banging the drum on here,
- 9:28Justin Benson and Aaron moorehead checking yep. Eric Martin has written every single
- 9:31episode this season. He only wrote two episodes in season one. Would you
- 9:37like to guess which two episodes. Eric Martin was responsible for in the season
- 9:43one, the episode where they are at the end of time, that's one
- 9:50you got that? Which episode was that five? Episode six for all Time,
- 9:56Always for all Time? Always okay? And then the first one maybe
- 10:01God, how amazing was that a bit if he did glorious purpose and glorious
- 10:03purpose. God, I wish, I wish that was the case. It's
- 10:07not, but no. He he wrote episode for the Nexus event. Uh
- 10:16yeah, that is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series. Such
- 10:20a good episode and kept you and you know what, like to talk about
- 10:24that real quick. I kept waiting in this season for there to be a
- 10:26moment between him and Sylvia again where they like were like you know, like
- 10:30love like changed, like did something that wasn't supposed to happen, you know,
- 10:35And I get I don't know. I wonder what the reason was for
- 10:37them not going with that plotline again, because like, we really don't get
- 10:39much more from that. We didn't get anything about that this season, right,
- 10:43There were some moments, and there was some like I mean, I
- 10:48guess you can make a case that we did get that, but it was
- 10:50more in dialogue, right, and not actual like, you're right, it's
- 10:56such a big moment, and it felt like the I guess we get that
- 11:03when he can't kill her at the end of this episode, right when he's
- 11:07going through this, he's doing everything he can to try to save the branch,
- 11:15the branches from overloading, and he's trying to save the fail safe from
- 11:20not having to be activated, and the only way to do that is to
- 11:24kill Sylvie because she will not hold back, and she's like in every version,
- 11:28she's going to kill he. He remains it doesn't matter no matter what
- 11:31Loki says, right, and yeah, it's a constant. And I guess
- 11:35because he can't kill her, maybe that is a way of the writers and
- 11:39the to be like, this is us taking what happened in that episode in
- 11:43season one and the NEXTUS event from we're implementing that here, but in a
- 11:50different way by Loki not being able to kill her, potentially, I don't
- 11:54know, it's interesting. That was Oh my god, we we learned what
- 12:01that's called in Did you watch What If? I forgot a few, but
- 12:05I didn't watch all. Did you watch uh, did you watch the best
- 12:09episode? The Doctor Strange episode? Oh? Yeah, yeah, God,
- 12:13that episode's so good that that's called something. I can't remember exactly what it
- 12:18was, but it's it's an event that you can't change, no matter like
- 12:22how hard you try, remember. Yeah, So like, yeah, I
- 12:26feel like that's that's what that is, is Sylvie killing or at least Sylvie
- 12:31wanting to kill he who remains. Yeah, that cannot change. So sorry,
- 12:39what were you saying? No, No, that was basically that point.
- 12:43Yeah, I will. I will just add. You know, you
- 12:46were talking about like them not really exploring that this season, and you're right,
- 12:50they didn't really explore that this season too much. I think everything we
- 12:56needed to know about like their love, are there love for one another?
- 13:03You know we kind of saw in episodes six, especially like when they land
- 13:05that kiss, right, Yeah, yeah, I think the reason for it
- 13:11lingering in this season is Loki needs a reason as like a compelling character to
- 13:18not want to take the throne, right, to not want to like do
- 13:24what he has to do to take on this burden, right, And like
- 13:28he's he's good with Mobius, right, Like he loves Mobius, but he
- 13:31doesn't like love Mobius, right. He seems to really love Sylvie narcissistic love.
- 13:39But yeah, I think that's that's why it's got a linger there,
- 13:41and like him looking back before he does what he's got to do. It's
- 13:46it's appropriate that it's it's Mobius, Yeah, but it's also Sylvie. Are
- 13:50the last two characters that he sees before he journeys into mystery, Yeah,
- 13:58which those two scenes are really awesome. Let's I want to talk about earlier
- 14:03in the episode real quick, sure, because I feel like the last three
- 14:05things we're gonna talk about, or that scene with Milbeus, the scene with
- 14:07Sylvie, and then the scene with he remains, were there any gosh,
- 14:11like the moments before, right, So, like the the important parts of
- 14:16the episode, right, I think the beginning obviously when we really figure out
- 14:20what's going on, right where he's buying seconds and minutes, days and weeks,
- 14:24and then finally he gets the centuries later thing, right, Like that
- 14:28is kind of like a piece of the episode, right, Like I feel
- 14:30like once he's we established the centuries later and then we're in this longer scene
- 14:39where we're watching Victor Timeley like take slow steps out on the bridge, and
- 14:45Loki is obviously like we can tell how far along he's gotten because he's just
- 14:50standing in there, like, good job, you're doing great. Uh huh,
- 14:52you can do this. I know you can't be so brave, so
- 14:56monotone, because he's white witnessed it the hundreds of times and the little quips
- 15:01in between, like like millions, sorry, millions of times, and the
- 15:05little quips in between, like hey, Victor, don't forget, don't put
- 15:09You can't place it on the bridge because it will roll off, like all
- 15:13the little things that like he's telling you all the little things that went wrong
- 15:16over the millions of tries, because it's just like one thing after another that
- 15:22he's had to prepare for and really just phenomenal acting job right by Hittleston.
- 15:28I mean, it's such a good job, like getting that all across and
- 15:31making you believe that he's done this so many times that he's exhausted with all
- 15:37of these extra little details that he has to tell. But we're in this
- 15:39long scene, right and so like longer scene where Victor Timley's walking out and
- 15:43he gets there and he and he puts the device. I forget what the
- 15:48hell the device is called? Now, Oh my god, the through put
- 15:52multiplier multiplier. I don't that by the way, Yeah, that's how I
- 15:56did it. Actually I heard it. I heard Fly's voice put the multiply
- 16:03multiply up, uh, puts it in like presses the button, shoots it
- 16:08in and comes all the way back and and uh. And we think,
- 16:14okay, this is how it's going to be done, like literally, like
- 16:17I was like, okay, great, Like they figured it out. What
- 16:19happens next, right, And we find out pretty quickly that what happens next
- 16:26is the branches are infinite, which means it's a scaling problem, which means
- 16:33they're always going to be more branches. No matter how big, how much
- 16:37bigger you make the loom, it will always be too small for how many
- 16:41branches are coming. And this is fascinating to me because I was just reading
- 16:44a book a couple months ago called Zero, The Biography of a Dangerous Idea,
- 16:48which is literally about like black holes and how zero is an infinite number
- 16:56and you can't divide by it. And the next thing I know is Victor
- 16:59time, like it's it would be like dividing by zero, and I'm just
- 17:03like, oh, this is great. I love when like TV shows line
- 17:06up with books I'm reading. So anyway, that was a little geek moment
- 17:10for me, But I love it geek out man, Yeah, fly that
- 17:14flag, but like it's such an important it was such like a cool thing.
- 17:18You're just like, holy shit, like this is such a bigger problem
- 17:19than we were thinking. It's just like now what my point is that this
- 17:25is like another section, right, so like from here on, And but
- 17:30I'm curious, like what you have to say, Well, I wanted to
- 17:32ask you about that, so something I can't tell if it bothers me or
- 17:37not about Like, so I like the problem, right, the problem makes
- 17:42sense to me. My issue with the problem is like we have at least
- 17:48two geniuses in the room, and then there's Loki who's been studying this for
- 17:52like forever. But granted he's been learning from the two geniuses, right,
- 17:56so, like you, I think it's safe to say like he hasn't applied,
- 18:00at least at this point, has not applied his own critical thinking,
- 18:03and his intelligence on the situation is dependent on the two teachers, right,
- 18:07So I'm confused as to why that our two teachers here have not considered that
- 18:15it's infinite, Like like what do you what do we mean? Like we're
- 18:18surprised by that. I want to ask you, like, what that's did?
- 18:22What do you think that that made sense? Was there something I missed?
- 18:27Like? I think I think the reason now that i'm thinking about it,
- 18:33Like, so you're totally right. It feels like it kind of comes
- 18:37at like it's like an extra detail that it was like, well, how
- 18:38come we didn't already know that? Right? It was like, wait,
- 18:41I thought I thought we were good. I thought you guys knew this and
- 18:45Ie and I imagine the reason is the throughput multiplier is sending them different data
- 18:52than what they were getting from the loom. That's the only thing I can
- 18:55think of that would make it not feel like they should have already known,
- 18:59right. So there's some kind of because when he's looking at the data,
- 19:03he's like, wait, but the data doesn't line up. There's something,
- 19:04you know. He says like there's something wrong with the data or it's not
- 19:07lining up. And then Loki's confused, like that doesn't make any sense.
- 19:11We increase the thoroughput three times or whatever, like it should be perfect and
- 19:15it's not. And then that's when like the light bulb clicks in Victor Timley's
- 19:18head and he's like it's infinite and they're like, oh no, like,
- 19:22oh yeah, like it is infinite. We're screwed. So that would be
- 19:26the only thing I can think of is that the data reading from the throughput
- 19:29multiplier is different than what the reading is from the loom, and that's why
- 19:33they didn't know it was infinite until that moment. That's what I'm going with,
- 19:36at least if I had to give him a reason, I'll take it.
- 19:38I'll take it. I need something. They're too smart to have messed
- 19:42that up. It's like, I knew this. Why didn't you guys know
- 19:45this? Yeah, what's the So where do we go from there? Right?
- 19:48So that happens and then Loki. So from from that point, that's
- 19:53that's when Loki realizes, like when he hears Sylvie talk like this is always
- 19:59going to happen because I killed he who remains Yeah, and he returns to
- 20:03that scene at the end of time. That's right, Yeah, this is
- 20:07a oh hand on before before we move on to that, because I had
- 20:11a similar feeling. Remember what I said about like the like I kept having
- 20:14those moments. Okay, so like Victor walking out on you know, out
- 20:19to put place the throughput multiplier on the shot thing I that whole scene,
- 20:30Like, I mean, like I know he has to succeed at some point,
- 20:33or maybe I'd seen him fail so many times that like I was just
- 20:36like, oh no, what if he fails again. I was so nervous
- 20:38during that scene, Like I don't I can't even really fully explain why.
- 20:42I was just so nervous. And then like finally, like we're in this
- 20:47scene that we're about to talk about with Sylvie and he who Remains, and
- 20:51I'm getting the same like feeling of doom and anxiety of him, just like
- 20:55it's all fruitless, nothing matters, like we're screwed there, there's nothing we
- 21:00can do. And I loved that feeling. I loved that they were able
- 21:04to make that to give me that, you know, like it really did
- 21:07feel hopeless throughout this whole episode. It did, and it's so good,
- 21:11and Jonathan Age's is just phenomenal, right, Like god damn, so I'm
- 21:17so glad we got extra he here Remains scenes, Like I honestly I wasn't
- 21:22necessarily expecting that, right, like we you called it perfectly with him going
- 21:26back to the end of time, and he did go back to the end
- 21:30of time, in real time and also in the past, so like he
- 21:34went there twice technically multiple, I mean millions of times really, but my
- 21:40goodness, but it was so cool to get more here remains scenes and these
- 21:42were so well done, Like obviously there are a ton of different scenes of
- 21:47him trying to stop Sylvie and silly and him fighting and Sylvie just succeeding every
- 21:51single time. And then eventually, eventually he says something to or Loki looks
- 21:57that he remains and is just in a like what does he say to him?
- 22:02He says, why don't you just stop her? Or whatever? Like
- 22:07why do you why do you always let her? Why do you never fight
- 22:08back? Is what he says. Actually, yeah, that's it. Why
- 22:11do you never fight back? And this like makes this makes he he remains
- 22:15perk up because up until that moment he didn't know how many times Loki had
- 22:22been there himself. I don't think I know, I don't think. So
- 22:26it was it was the tip off of he says, why don't you ever
- 22:30fight back? Because Loki is tipping him off, saying like yeah, I
- 22:34know how this goes, and he remains like, ah, okay, this
- 22:38is the man. This is the man. I was waiting for right,
- 22:41waiting for him. I've been waiting for him for a long time. And
- 22:45so he freezes, he freezes, uh Sylvie right, and then and Loki's
- 22:52like like so surprised that he can even do that, and and uh he
- 22:59here remains, you know, quips at him. It's like, oh,
- 23:00you haven't figured out how to stop time yet or slow it, you know,
- 23:04slow it down enough to freeze it a little quip and and then they
- 23:11just get into this real, real convo about like what is actually happening,
- 23:15and he remains explains to him basically that like, you know, I told
- 23:22you that I would always have a way to basically be reincarnated, Like this
- 23:30is always how it's going to go. There's either the Sacred Timeline or there's
- 23:33a multiversal war. And at some point during the same scene, right like
- 23:41Loki's really actually playing him a little bit a lot of it, and I'm
- 23:48forgetting the order of things now, can you Yeah? Yeah, yeah.
- 23:52So so from that point, you know, he's you know, he remains
- 23:57is putting what appears to be all of his cards on the table and basically
- 24:03saying like, yeah, I played you, you know, I did all
- 24:04this, and then you know, he unfreezes Sylvie and he's like, yeah,
- 24:07come back to me, like when you like can be serious. And
- 24:11then Loki freezes Sylvie, reveling what makes you think this is the first time
- 24:18we've spoken, you know, like that was such a great turnaround. And
- 24:22then he who remains like puts a tally in the air for Loki. It's
- 24:26like, you got me. And I loved that because it felt like such
- 24:33a It felt like such a turnaround from where from where Loki was at the
- 24:37beginning of the season, where he was just terrified of this guy, right,
- 24:41and like finally, like after like centuries of like trying over and over
- 24:47again and failing and losing because Lokis are always destined to lose, he's finally
- 24:52able to. Yeah, he's like he's able to be on equal ground as
- 24:57this guy. Yeah, this is It's important too, because it shows that
- 25:02there is some vulnerability to he who remains in his plans, right if we're
- 25:07to if we're to believe that he actually did get got by Loki in that
- 25:12moment, right, No, I think he has to because at that point
- 25:18they're beyond the threshold of him knowing what it's about to happen. You're right,
- 25:22You're right, You're right, great point. You know what, that
- 25:26was interesting though, You know what, that was interesting, And I'm glad
- 25:29you said that because that there reminded me of a thought I had, because
- 25:33when I was watching it, I was like, Okay, yeah, this
- 25:34is happening beyond the threshold. He doesn't know what's happening. There is one
- 25:38specific scene though, that happens that does not happen before the threshold. It's
- 25:45in the elevator, yea, when our Sylvie tries to stab him and current
- 25:51Loki stops her. And if you recall, the way that scene is supposed
- 25:56to go, is Sylvia's post to swing, but he has his TemPad pre
- 26:03programmed and he ends up behind them. She swings again, and then he
- 26:07teleports out of the elevator. But that's not what happens in that scene.
- 26:11She goes to swing, Loki stops him or stops Sylvie, and he remains
- 26:15just like laughs. He's just like a really creepy laugh. Yeah, which
- 26:22was interesting because like, if he wrote that scene, that means he wrote
- 26:26two different scenes, you know what I mean? Right, act fascinating.
- 26:37Where are we? Where are we I don't know, man, it's all
- 26:41timey wyomy mumbo jumbo at this point. So, but we do need to
- 26:45talk more about their conversation right between who remains so like, essentially the main
- 26:51points are that we have two choices, and it's kill. Like here gives
- 27:00Loki a choice. He's like, you have to either kill Sylvie or it's
- 27:03multiversal war, basically telling Loki he's the one who has to sit on the
- 27:07throne and keep the Sacred Timeline going or it's multiversal war. Hundreds of variants
- 27:14of myself are coming like and like Loki is like, you know, defeat
- 27:22it because it's just a terrible choice, right, Like, well, there
- 27:26there is one point there that you're forgetting or you're there just needs a little
- 27:30laboration. Is the the loom if it if it is destroyed, there's a
- 27:37fail safe the TVA is this right right? It prunes the rest of the
- 27:44timelines and keeps the Sacred Timeline intact. So I'm so glad you bring this
- 27:48up. So this, So that means that in the previous episode when we
- 27:55saw the those timelines being disintegrated, right, those were actually just the branch
- 28:03timelines being disintegrated, which means that there was a sacred timeline to go to
- 28:10in that moment. And remember when Sylvie at the end of the last episode
- 28:15or towards the end of the last episte, she's like, there's nowhere left
- 28:17to go because they all think that all of time is gone, but there
- 28:22was somewhere left to go. They could have gone to the Sacred timeline technically,
- 28:29right, based on that, That's what I got from what he remains
- 28:34with saying was that like when the loom, the failsafe of the Loom means
- 28:38that the Sacred Timeline will exist. The TVA gets destroyed, but you can
- 28:41rebuild that, which means like Loki could have just time slipped to the Sacred
- 28:49timeline and Sylvie could have used a TemPad to go to the Sacred timeline,
- 28:55but they didn't think they could or whatever. And it all means that all
- 29:00those scenes weren't even on the Sacred timeline in the last episode, none of
- 29:04them were, because yeah, I don't think any of them were. Yeah,
- 29:07they were all branch timelines. So super fascinating, right, But that's
- 29:14what that implies is that there was technically a place to go, which would
- 29:17have been the sacred timeline, in which case they would have figured it out
- 29:19on you know, in that way. But they were they didn't know I
- 29:26guess or they right, well they did at maybe right right. They didn't
- 29:32know about Yeah, they didn't know that the failsafe created kept a sacred timel
- 29:34going. They had no clue, so that that's why they wouldn't know to
- 29:37go to it. It's crazy. So yeah, it really becomes like an
- 29:42issue at the end of him trying to save his friends, right because they're
- 29:48going to be in the TVA that it's going to be destroyed or you know,
- 29:53they can let they could they could let them be destroyed and infinite amount
- 29:59of ranch timelines, or you could kill Sylvie and stop it all from happening.
- 30:07Yeah, it's it's a what do you call that, it's it's it's
- 30:11the trolley problem. Yes, yeah, it's it's the trolley problem. Yeah.
- 30:18And what Loki's solution to this, and I am jumping the gun a
- 30:22bit here, is to just take the train tracks away from the equation and
- 30:26just take them with you. Just take the train tracks with you and walk
- 30:29away, make your own path. Yeah, that's how you solve the trolley
- 30:33problem that was so like fascinating, Like I think I think we can talk
- 30:38about that now right where I guess we should talk about We should talk about
- 30:42the you know, the scene with Mobius and Sylvia real quick, although not
- 30:48too like, not too long, I guess because they're just really they were
- 30:55just really nice scenes. You know, they were kind of like, yeah,
- 30:57I think we can quick about it. I do want to say one
- 31:00more thing about the he Remains scene. Yeah, like you said earlier,
- 31:07I love Jonathan Majors in this role. I mean you and I were captivated
- 31:14with for all time always last year or yeah, you know a couple years
- 31:17ago when Loki came out, and it was because of this. It was
- 31:22it was probably the climax of any Marvel thing that had the least amount of
- 31:26action, and it was like the climax I loved the most. And it
- 31:30was all because of Jonathan Majors. And like you said, it was so
- 31:33great to see him back in this role, and it was neat to see
- 31:37him not only do like the whole like Wizard of Oz thing like he did
- 31:41in episode six of the first season, but also to kind of just shoot
- 31:45the shit with Loki like like, you know, like Loki's talking about these
- 31:51problems and he's like, well, it's not a problem, and like,
- 31:52you know, they're going over like they're just like problem solving together, and
- 31:56I just I love that. It was like, you know, they're just
- 31:59kicking it back. They're like, yeah, we got time to talk about
- 32:00this. Yeah. Sure. It was great. I loved that interaction.
- 32:06It was so different than their first interaction. It was so it was so
- 32:09good. It's so well done. I want more of that scene. Really,
- 32:15like they're just trying to solve the problem, and he remains just like,
- 32:17look, I have solved the problem. I've literally done that. You're
- 32:22trying to solve a problem that I have already solved. You just don't like
- 32:24the solution, but it's the only solution, and the other side of the
- 32:29solution is multiversal war, and I can tell you that's not great. So
- 32:35pick one, you know, like literally pick one Loki, and he did
- 32:38pick one, and you know, yeah, unfortunately for all the people in
- 32:47that you know, part of the world and universe and timelines, it's not
- 32:52going to be great. But fortunately for us and all the other Marvel fans
- 32:57in the world, it's gonna get crazy. Yeah, so I'm here for
- 33:01it. So, yeah, the the let's do the Mobius scene first.
- 33:09Yeah, yes, we go back to episode one, Glorious Purpose, Episode
- 33:14one. Yeah, and and we're in the room in the interview room right
- 33:17when he's first talking to Mobius. And this is the room that they showed
- 33:22Loki time slipping too quickly in the previous episode. Yeah, you're right,
- 33:29he was time slipping every he was time slipping everywhere that the variants of the
- 33:34TVA people were except that room. We didn't know what it was because there
- 33:40was that's the room he was time slipping to. So we got an answer
- 33:44to it this this which we just didn't We just didn't recall. We just
- 33:46didn't recognize it from last season realiant at all. I don't think we were
- 33:51supposed to we you know, I guess either way it was either we recognize
- 33:54it or you'll you'll remember, you know, during this episode what that room
- 33:59was. But so, so that's the room. And yeah, that was
- 34:01just like a wholehearted scene, you know, just like, well, we
- 34:06do get a we do learn some new information in this scene. Right,
- 34:09Oh yeah, we get we get a background on Mobius. Uh, and
- 34:15it's not clear that he's talking about himself at first, but basically him,
- 34:21you know, telling Loki about like the the problem with burden and the weight
- 34:25of burden. Right, when there's a purpose, a glorious purpose that you
- 34:30know, you're supposed to maintain that responsibility, right, great power, great
- 34:35responsibility. Right, That's basically what he's talking about, right. Uh.
- 34:37And yeah, and he hesitates looking at an eight year old boy, which
- 34:42I think that was a great choice given what we know about what Mobius's variant
- 34:47is, right, given that you know he has boys, right, Ah.
- 34:52And the calamity that happens because you know he you know, he hesitated,
- 34:57he faltered, right, He faltered for a moment, and it led
- 34:59to the deaths of his comrades. Uh. And of course you know the
- 35:06the badass who has to finish the job is Rens Slayer, which is a
- 35:10surprise to no one, and that she's like eight year old boy, send
- 35:14another, I'll do it again. Oh my gosh, please, I'm just
- 35:20giving him out for free. I'll i'll all the little boys. She has
- 35:24no heart. I want to, but I can't clip that for shorts.
- 35:29There's no way I'm not doing it. I'm not gonna do that. I
- 35:34don't know. If we ever do get monetized, well, that will get
- 35:37us demonetized, demonized. Don't prune us YouTube? No, yeah, that's
- 35:47great. Don't pronounce YouTube. Oh that's gonna be my intro. Awesome nice.
- 35:59I will say though, when they mentioned rens Slayer I was like,
- 36:00oh, shoot, Rensselayer was the thing last episode. Like I totally forgot
- 36:05that She's proved in like probably at the end of time. So when they
- 36:07mentioned her name, I was like, Okay, we're gonna we probably get
- 36:10an answer now for what happened to her because they brought her up. But
- 36:15yeah, that scene ends with Loki standing up shaking Obius's hand, and then
- 36:20that timeline gets incinerated, and then he goes to Sylvie, right, he
- 36:27goes to Sylvie at Orra Boris's workshop branch timeline yep, And that was such
- 36:36a This scene was a little heartbreaking, right because like he explains to her
- 36:42the situation and she's like, she's such an interesting case to me, Like
- 36:49she has all the evidence, she knows what he's telling her is true,
- 36:52and she is so adamant on the free will thing, and like she so
- 37:00adamant to not see the bigger picture. But to her, the bigger picture
- 37:05is free will, not multiversal war. Right, Like to her, having
- 37:09the choice is the bigger picture, not not having stability. Right. It's
- 37:16just like such like an incredible like pulling tug of two characters, right,
- 37:22I really yeah, I really enjoy that. It's like, yeah, you're
- 37:27trying to save everything, but like, what's it worth if everything is horrible?
- 37:34It's it's a it's a good point to raise. I'm not necessarily saying
- 37:39I agree, I do for the record, but but yeah, it's it's
- 37:45a really interesting point to bring up, especially at the end of all things,
- 37:50right, right, Yo, good for Sylvie for sticking to her guns.
- 37:53You know, at the end of all things, you can't say that
- 37:55she's a hypocrite. Well I guess she is kind of a hypocrite, but
- 38:00but she's stuck to her guns. Man. Yeah, And she was like,
- 38:02you want my permission, I won't. I won't. I won't give
- 38:06you my permission to kill me or something or whatever. She says, blessing,
- 38:09you're not You're not gonna get my blessing. Come on now, yeah,
- 38:14oh yeah, go kill me. That's fine. But really like this
- 38:17Sylvie making her case right there is I think what changed Loki's mind. It
- 38:22made him make the decision. He was like, you know what, I
- 38:23know what I have to do, and what an incredible ending. Uh.
- 38:31He goes back to those moments when Victor Timeley is supposed to walk down the
- 38:37stairs and walk out the bridge, and instead he walks down himself, locks
- 38:43the door so no one can follow him, uses his magic to open up
- 38:46the doors, and then walks out without any protection, which like we called
- 38:54you and I called that. We we said, we were like, maybe
- 38:58there's something about like as already in like DNA that makes them like a little
- 39:01resilient to it, right, right, because like yeah, because the while
- 39:09areas parts like well, he could have done that himself the first time,
- 39:13you know, well I thought about that. What I was like, well,
- 39:15why didn't you do it the first time? Well, it was it
- 39:19was because like he didn't he didn't really know first off that he was going
- 39:22to be a okay, right, and then like b like I think in
- 39:27the back of Loki's mind like he's the only one who can save everything,
- 39:30which is true, and if like if he's wrong, then like that's the
- 39:37end of everything, right, right, and no, there's no time slipping
- 39:42out of that, right. And at that moment, it was just like,
- 39:45this is this is the option, and I know that this is what
- 39:46I have to do and it's gonna work, basically. And that's a really
- 39:51awesome scene though, because he's walking out and he's like, you know,
- 39:53transforming into into Loki. When he's we get the horns back, we get
- 39:59like a new while, you get king Is that what it is? King
- 40:01Loki? He's got his kingly attire? Yeah, yeah, I guess it
- 40:06is. Yeah, because he's sitting on a throne, right, that's yeah,
- 40:07we'll call him King Loki. That's a good point. We get King
- 40:09Loki, amazing new suit or whatever and new attire and and yeah, then
- 40:19he just disintegrates the loom, gets rid of the failsafe, and all of
- 40:23a sudden, we just get like webs of multiversal branches, just webs everywhere,
- 40:32and such a weird scene, but like really really cool, and it's
- 40:38just silent. Everything's quiet, and then he just starts grabbing them and he
- 40:43starts sending his signal through and I guess he was doing that to try to
- 40:49find the end of time, so he could go sit on his throne while
- 40:53also pulling the branches away from the TVA, right, putting them in back
- 41:00into the rightful place, which is chaos, which, by the way,
- 41:07as he was walking out and like he takes on like a a more classic
- 41:12look for Loki, and you know he's using his magic. I immediately thought
- 41:17back to the Journey into Mystery episode with when he's met all his other variants,
- 41:24and there's the older Loki played by Richard Grant who like tells him,
- 41:30I think him and like the other Lokis, he's like when they're all talking
- 41:34about like their gimmicks or whatever, he's like, nonsense. A Loki's true
- 41:37power comes from his sorcery. And then of course, like he goes out
- 41:43like a badass, uh, fighting Eliath and putting on like that amazing illusion,
- 41:50right, and like as Eliath like overcomes him, it's him screaming out,
- 41:57Uh. That's that's all I kept hearing as Loki was like slowly kind
- 42:00of transforming into Richard Grant was just glory. His purpose amazing. Yeah,
- 42:07I mean nothing else to say, right, Like he's he's collecting the branches
- 42:13and he dramatically takes his stairwell to his throne, and yeah, he takes
- 42:22the throne, sitting at the end of time, as you called, basically,
- 42:27and and uh, now we're waiting. We're just waiting for the multiversal
- 42:32war to begin. And then of course we get we get an after right,
- 42:37it's like, okay, well, what's what's happening now? And we
- 42:40get this cool visual of you know, it's no longer a loom. It's
- 42:45the tree yeah, from from thor from uh Norse mythology. Yeah, yeah,
- 42:52it's absolutely right, it's the tree in the trunk is low key basically
- 42:57sitting at the trunk of this tree, and he is essentially sending the branches
- 43:01out into the multiverse, which is really cool. But yeah, which,
- 43:07yeah, for all the times we have talked about branches, it is amazing
- 43:12that this is the first tree that we actually see. Uh. It was
- 43:16a really neat idea. Yeah, first tree. Finally we get the branches
- 43:22line up with what they're coming from now and yeah, we get the after
- 43:29scenes, which, you know, the episode up until that moment was so
- 43:32chaotic and loud and frightening and like all over the place. And then the
- 43:37second that Loki takes the throne and we get the after, we get the
- 43:44you know, the the Q card for what happens after. It's so quiet,
- 43:52like it's like peace, it's peaceful, it's quiet. But what we
- 43:58really know is that it's the call before the storm basically, like one storm's
- 44:05gone, figured it out, but now like the big one's coming basically.
- 44:10But it was like so eerie, how quiet, Like the rest of the
- 44:14scenes were in the episode, it was so weird, and but yeah,
- 44:20I mean most of it is business as usual. The main difference really is
- 44:23the Mobius has decided to leave the TVA for a while, maybe for good,
- 44:28and he wants to explore what the whole point of it all has been.
- 44:34He wants to know what he's been fighting for for all those years and
- 44:39and yeah, but before that, there's a moment with deep Be fifteen and
- 44:46Mobius where they're talking about, you know, their mission now is to find
- 44:53all the heat who remains variants? Is the TVA's main mission now? Yeah,
- 44:59And there's a moment or Mobius is like, oh, there was something
- 45:00on six one six, but it seems like they took care of it,
- 45:06which I imagine that they're talking about quantum Mania. Yeah, that seems like
- 45:12dang, I think that's who they were talking about. But did they say
- 45:15a branch of six one six or did they say six one six? I'm
- 45:22not sure. I'd have to go back and check. We have to watch
- 45:24the episode again. I think I thought he mentioned a branch six one six,
- 45:30and I was like, wait, if they're talking about Quantuminia, yeah,
- 45:32does that mean it was just a it was wasn't actually our six one
- 45:36six, So so hand on, I'm I'm willing to bet that he just
- 45:40said six one six because I don't think I don't think we have branches anymore.
- 45:45I don't think that there is like a sacred timeline anymore with what Loki
- 45:50is done. Oh yeah, yeah, that's a good point. Yeah,
- 45:52so yeah he said six one Maybe he said six one six A, which
- 45:57would mean then that's probably the normal six one six because it's the first one.
- 46:01I don't know. Maybe maybe I heard something, but regardless, either
- 46:05way, I think you're right. I think it's supposed to be a reference.
- 46:08And yeah, which is cool. So it was cool we got that
- 46:12little thing there and and yeah, but then yeah, Mobe just wants to
- 46:15go back and you know, see what the timeline is like and what he's
- 46:21been fighting for. And Sylvie has no clue. She's like, I'm just
- 46:23gonna do whatever. You know, she gets through, she told us right,
- 46:30she she wants to try everything. Maybe you continue to work at McDonald's.
- 46:35They're one cash register person short. Now she just she just just left.
- 46:42She didn't even put it in two weeks. The hell, Sylvie,
- 46:49you stab God and then you just walk out on your job, Like,
- 46:52jeez, man, unbelievable. Yeah, totally, man. I think what
- 47:04I find so interesting about the ending is the way the first season ends.
- 47:12You know, there is a question about who has free will, right,
- 47:15and ren s Layer at one point even says like I'm going to find free
- 47:19will, right, And she's talking about he who remains, like she's trying
- 47:22to find he remains because, like, as Sylvie brings up, like the
- 47:25only person who has free will is the person who controls everyone else. And
- 47:30the way that this season ends is like a direct argument to that. It's
- 47:37like, well, it could be that no one has free will except the
- 47:44person who rules it all or everyone can have free will except the person who's
- 47:50holding it all together. Wow. So Loki. Loki with his glorious purpose,
- 47:57he kind of loses out. He loses out on his own free will,
- 48:00all right. I mean it was his choice and that's it was a
- 48:02great choice. But yeah, he's kind of a prisoner. Well said,
- 48:08that's brilliant. Yeah, yeah, that's Loki man. That's a great place
- 48:14to end it on. In my opinion, I think, was there anything
- 48:16else you wanted to talk about? Anything that that we forgot? We do
- 48:22have to do grades. This is the end of a show, so we
- 48:23get to we get to score it. Yes, that's true. Is there
- 48:29anything else? Yeah? I thought it was funny that we went to the
- 48:32void and we got to see rens Layer eat it. Yeah, that was
- 48:37not necessary, but thank you. I enjoyed that. But the little relic
- 48:44from I guess another the previous multiversal war sitting on the ground there, did
- 48:47you see that? Yeah? Always, all time, always all white time.
- 48:51Always that that had to be like a relic from a previous war battle
- 48:54or something. Yeah, maybe, agreed, This is very interesting. Yeah,
- 49:00sorry, there is one thing, one thing that I thought we were
- 49:02going to answer and we never really did so. In episode one, season
- 49:08two, or Boros, when Loki The first scene of that episode is Loki
- 49:15running away from the TVA. But if you recall at the end of episode
- 49:21six of season one, in the finale, when he ends up in that
- 49:23era, they're talking about all the different branch timelines that are just coming out
- 49:30of the woodwork, right, and we're led to believe that that's the current
- 49:37timeline. We don't know at the time yet that that's the past. Right
- 49:39later in the second season, we learned that's the past, and I thought,
- 49:44okay, we're gonna learn what that is, Like what was going on
- 49:47there? Like why was the branch timeline thing happening back then? And he
- 49:53erased everybody's memories. Was that the multiversal war and was the TVA part of
- 49:58that? I don't know, Well, yeah that No, you're absolutely right
- 50:05though, that was what it was. Because at the beginning of episode five
- 50:10of this season, when ren Slayer and He Who Remains are talking at the
- 50:16end of time, they showed us that flashback scene of them talking and he
- 50:23remained saying that she did a great job with you know, helping during this
- 50:30war, and you know, she was a big part of the victory,
- 50:36and that she needed to go back to the TVA. Now he was going
- 50:37to be right behind her and then that's when he wiped her memory. That
- 50:40must have been what it was. That makes a lot of sense, right
- 50:45that that was the multiversal War. I think so that makes sense. That's
- 50:50crazy, very cool. We get more, we'll get more. Or as
- 50:54a yeah, he who remains would say, see you soon, see you
- 51:00soon. All right, let's do great for the series? Yeah, what
- 51:04is it? I always forget you guys. You always have to So five
- 51:08movies, we do five series, we do ten. It's been a while
- 51:12since we've done this. We have not graded something in a while because of
- 51:15anyway. Well, the last time was Secret Invasion, and my what a
- 51:20stark contrast this is. Oh wait did we great? Ahs? Soca?
- 51:24Oh we did great? Ah Soca. Oh yeah, you're right, you're
- 51:28absolutely right. Yeah. Oh that was a good show. That was a
- 51:30good show. Yeah. Unfortunately you remembered a bad show. I did.
- 51:37I didn't remember a bad show, you know what. It just left a
- 51:39sour taste in my mouth that I haven't been able to get out. Yeah
- 51:43it's okay, Secret Invasion. I'll go first. I really loved Loki.
- 51:50I think Loki it was my number two favorite show of all the MCU shows.
- 51:57It is now definitely number one at number two. Originally it was WandaVision,
- 52:04but WandaVision. For as great as it is and as creative as it
- 52:07is for me, it just doesn't kind of stick the ending. I think
- 52:09the climax is a little lost with it being a Dragon ball Z fight at
- 52:14the end. Loki is not that Loki. Loki nails the ending, I
- 52:17think. I think there are some hiccups, especially with the second episode of
- 52:22season six, which definitely still feels like something's missing there. But overall,
- 52:29this is a great show. I'm simping and maybe I'm just so excited from
- 52:32like what I've just watched, but I'm giving it a nine. Dude,
- 52:35Like I love this, Yeah, yeah, I'm I wanted to go a
- 52:40little higher. This is the best TV show that they've done, and this
- 52:46is the this is the best season of a TV show that they have done.
- 52:51It's better than season one of Loki. It's the best season they've done
- 52:55of any TV show and the MCU to no arguments, there's like, if
- 53:02anyone wants to argue me on that, argue against me on that, please,
- 53:07you better come with some evidence. I'm gonna go with a nine point
- 53:12two. It's nine point two out of ten. It's fantastic. It's sad
- 53:21how it ended, because I think you're correct about there not being a Loki
- 53:24season three at the moment. At the moment, this is setting up this
- 53:30multiversal war situation. We're gonna get a ton of new variants of King and
- 53:35He Who Remains and all that. We're gonna see a bunch of different Lokis,
- 53:39I imagine, So we're still gonna get some Hittleston. We're gonna see
- 53:43this version of Loki again. I don't know when, but there's no way
- 53:49that he just sits there the whole time, especially if it's going against him
- 53:55and his friends towards the end. Right, Like, we're gonna get this
- 53:59multiversal war, and if the King, if He who Remains variants are winning,
- 54:02I imagine he comes to save the day. Maybe I don't know,
- 54:07but it's a nine point two. It's a fantastic show. And yeah,
- 54:14now we get to go watch the Marvels over the next week and do that
- 54:16at some point. Indeed, before we close this, I do want to
- 54:22share I just remembered it. What was absolutely my favorite line of this whole
- 54:27episode. And there was a lot of great dialogue in this episode, but
- 54:30the line that just got a great chuckle out of me. He who remains
- 54:37talking about like his contingency plans to always survive and like, you know the
- 54:42fact that Loki has seen him die a bunch of times. He just rattles
- 54:45out, Oh yeah, you know, rip hw r. It's so stupid.
- 55:01But I loved it. I loved it so much. It even took
- 55:07me a second. I was like, Oh, I didn't get it till
- 55:12just now. It's that's great. That's so good man, fantastic, what
- 55:17a show. Well done, Marvel, good job. Hopefully hopefully it gets
- 55:22some of the media off their back. Seriously, I you know, we
- 55:30can talk more about this later. The Marvels is coming in a bit mixed.
- 55:35I'm very interested to review that with you. Yeah, and I guess
- 55:37that I guess that will be the next thing that we talk about on the
- 55:40show. Yeah, we got to try to do that within the week.
- 55:44It's gonna be tough next week, super busy. We got it. We
- 55:46got to figure it out. Yeah, we'll figure it out. Yeah,
- 55:49any any other closing remark Sir, glorious purpose, glorious purpose, and as
- 55:55always made the review. Be with you, peace,
