- 0:00Speaker 1: Is the rapture real? What if I told you that
- 0:02Speaker 1: the rapture is something entirely made up? Would you breath
- 0:05Speaker 1: a deep sigh of relief or would you be offended?
- 0:08Speaker 1: The rapture theory is commonly held in much of Christianity today.
- 0:12Speaker 1: But why is it really so biblical? It is not.
- 0:16Speaker 1: The rapture is a myth. It is complete fiction, made
- 0:19Speaker 1: up in the nineteenth century through the distortion of scripture.
- 0:22Speaker 1: The belief originated in the early nineteenth century with the
- 0:25Speaker 1: work of dispensationalist theologian John Nelson Darby and became popular
- 0:29Speaker 1: among end time's oriented Christians. It was often included in
- 0:33Speaker 1: the notes and illustrations of study Bibles, such as the
- 0:36Speaker 1: nineteen o nine Schofield Reference Bible. So, whether you believe
- 0:40Speaker 1: in the rapture or not, allow me to present for
- 0:43Speaker 1: you five compelling reasons why the rapture isn't real. Number one,
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's unbiblical. The rapture, despite how much it's accepted as fact,
- 0:51Speaker 1: is completely unbiblical. There is literally no direct scriptural evidence
- 0:56Speaker 1: for the rapture. All of the scriptures classically used to
- 0:59Speaker 1: defend the rapture either taken out of context or vague
- 1:01Speaker 1: and obscure. If the Rapture really is true, then why
- 1:05Speaker 1: isn't the Bible filled with it? Why do rapture teachers
- 1:09Speaker 1: have to use such vague passages to back up their beliefs. Sure,
- 1:13Speaker 1: there are a few verses that kind of hint towards
- 1:15Speaker 1: the Rapture, but as soon as you take the time
- 1:18Speaker 1: to understand the proper context, you'll discover that you've been
- 1:21Speaker 1: implying your own meaning into the text. Number two implies
- 1:25Speaker 1: a third coming of Christ. Rapture teachers, in order to
- 1:28Speaker 1: back up their position, have invented a third coming of Christ.
- 1:32Speaker 1: No one would ever admit this, but if you listen
- 1:35Speaker 1: to what the Rapture teaches, it is implied they will
- 1:38Speaker 1: teach that Jesus' second coming is the Rapture where he
- 1:40Speaker 1: sucks up all the Christians into the sky, and his
- 1:43Speaker 1: final coming is a third coming, one of final judgment.
- 1:46Speaker 1: This is logically inconsistent and scripturally insulting. There is no
- 1:50Speaker 1: such thing as a third coming of Christ. When he
- 1:53Speaker 1: comes again, it will be the final and full manifestation
- 1:56Speaker 1: of the Kingdom. It's important to note here that the
- 1:59Speaker 1: Kingdom has all already come fully in Christ However, the
- 2:03Speaker 1: second Coming is properly understood as a full manifestation. It's
- 2:07Speaker 1: not that Jesus is gone from the earth soon to
- 2:09Speaker 1: magically come back. Christ is here and his Kingdom is
- 2:13Speaker 1: with him right now. Rapture teachers make the false distinction
- 2:16Speaker 1: between the Day of Christ and the day of the Lord,
- 2:20Speaker 1: claiming that the Bible refers to the Rapture and the
- 2:22Speaker 1: second Coming of Christ as different events by these terms.
- 2:26Speaker 1: But this logic is seriously flawed. By the same way
- 2:29Speaker 1: of thinking, you could conclude that when Matthew's Gospel writes
- 2:32Speaker 1: the Kingdom of Heaven and Luke's marks Gospel the Kingdom
- 2:36Speaker 1: of God, that this means there are two kingdoms number three.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Thessalonians four seventeen in context, Thessalonians four seventeen is perhaps
- 2:44Speaker 1: the most important Bible verse in a rapture teacher's theology.
- 2:48Speaker 1: But is this verse really talking about the rapture. Let's
- 2:51Speaker 1: look at the context. In Thessalonians four seventeen, Paul writes,
- 2:56Speaker 1: then we who are alive and remain shall be caught
- 2:58Speaker 1: up together with them in the clouds to meet the
- 3:00Speaker 1: Lord in the air. You can see why this can
- 3:03Speaker 1: seem like a rapture verse. So here, more than ever,
- 3:05Speaker 1: it's important to understand what is leading up to this
- 3:08Speaker 1: verse and where it fits into the whole of this letter. Remember,
- 3:12Speaker 1: the New Testament is a compilation of letters. These letters
- 3:15Speaker 1: where never meant to be picked apart like we treat
- 3:18Speaker 1: them today. They must be taken as a whole to
- 3:20Speaker 1: be understood properly. Right before verse seventeen, Paul is talking
- 3:24Speaker 1: about resurrection from the dead. This is massive. Paul is
- 3:28Speaker 1: not talking about the end times. Paul is encouraging the
- 3:32Speaker 1: church with the hope of resurrection. Death is not permanent.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Death is not the end. Check out specifically verse fourteen.
- 3:39Speaker 1: For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again,
- 3:43Speaker 1: even so God will bring with him those who sleep
- 3:45Speaker 1: in Jesus. Paul here makes the parallel between Christ's resurrection
- 3:49Speaker 1: and our resurrection. Death is defeated by Christ and we
- 3:53Speaker 1: share in his victory. Far from being a verse for
- 3:56Speaker 1: the rapture, this verse is about the resurrection for a
- 4:00Speaker 1: nineteenth century invention. The rapture was first invented by John
- 4:04Speaker 1: Nelson Darby in the nineteenth century, specifically the eighteen thirties.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Up until that time, absolutely no one believed in the rapture.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Think about that for a moment. Some may be quick
- 4:16Speaker 1: to say, why are you questioning the rapture? It's such
- 4:19Speaker 1: a well established doctrine. But who's really the one questioning
- 4:23Speaker 1: orthodoxy here? If you believe in the rapture, then essentially
- 4:26Speaker 1: you are saying that for one thousand, eight hundred years,
- 4:28Speaker 1: the Church as a whole has been wrong. Are you
- 4:31Speaker 1: that confident in this? Are you a better theologian than
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Reformers, the Early Church, or even the Apostle Paul,
- 4:38Speaker 1: because none of them ever taught the rapture? Number five
- 4:41Speaker 1: fear based. The rapture is an entirely fear based doctrine.
- 4:45Speaker 1: It sounds much more like mythology than Christianity. The rapture
- 4:49Speaker 1: creates a rescue me mentality. The Church has become far
- 4:53Speaker 1: more interested in being rescued from an evil world than
- 4:57Speaker 1: it is in changing the world with the Gospel. Aren't
- 4:59Speaker 1: we called to be good stewards of the earth? Psalms
- 5:02Speaker 1: one hundred fifteen sixteen. Aren't we looking forward to a
- 5:05Speaker 1: new heaven and a new Earth? The rapture has detrimentally
- 5:09Speaker 1: corrupted the Church with an escapist mindset we don't feel
- 5:12Speaker 1: responsible to build a lasting legacy. Instead, we look forward
- 5:16Speaker 1: to our escape from this world. Ultimately, the rapture undermines
- 5:20Speaker 1: the command of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all creation.
- 5:24Speaker 1: So is the rapture real? I doubt it? Either way?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Who cares? We teach the rapture in Christianity sometimes like
- 5:31Speaker 1: it matters. Let me tell you it doesn't. While the
- 5:34Speaker 1: Bible may be unclear about the end times, it is
- 5:37Speaker 1: clear about this. We will never fully know what's going
- 5:40Speaker 1: to happen, when it's going to happen, or even how
- 5:42Speaker 1: it's going to happen. Just trust Jesus, enjoy abundant life,
- 5:47Speaker 1: and preach the Gospel. So what do you think is
- 5:50Speaker 1: the rapture real? Leave me a comment below. Share Share
