- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, Demanded by
- 0:16celebrities, CEOs and even royalty, Adam Cox.
- 0:20These recordings took place live from Adam Smith in London's
- 0:24world famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. And you're about to listen to a
- 0:42hypnosis session that covers two key themes.
- 0:44One is childhood brainwashing, and the second is thunderstorms.
- 0:49And I was working with a client that could remember as a child
- 0:54actually playing football or soccer, as you might say, in the
- 0:58United States, out in thunderstorms and rain and being
- 1:02completely unfazed by it. But then when they were about 9
- 1:05or 10 years old, they started hearing things from their
- 1:08parents and seeing the facial expressions of grandparents.
- 1:12And they would see that there was a lot of fear and anxiety
- 1:15around thunderstorms. They lived in quite a remote
- 1:19agricultural part of the world, quite exposed, and therefore
- 1:22thunderstorms were kind of a big deal out there.
- 1:26But alongside that, they had a parent that would tell them that
- 1:29thunderstorms are God's wrath and vengeance, and they would
- 1:33tell his stories about the end of days and apocalypses that was
- 1:37linked to violent storms. So at a very young impressional
- 1:42age, they were connecting punishment and curses with
- 1:47thunderstorms and that all got joined up.
- 1:50Now as an adult, they know it. They knew it wasn't true, but
- 1:53they still felt it. They still felt a visceral
- 1:56anxiety reaction at the very thought of thunderstorms and
- 2:00Thunder and lightning and those things.
- 2:02So there's an element of timeline of going back to that
- 2:05younger version of themself and saying, look, these
- 2:08thunderstorms, they're just nature, they're just
- 2:10fascinating. They're quite cool things and
- 2:13seeing how that ripples through time and also pre empting what
- 2:17they knew their mother would tell them and priming them that
- 2:21it wasn't true and wasn't useful for them.
- 2:24So if you feel like you were kind of brainwashed in your
- 2:27childhood, or you've got what feels as an adult like an
- 2:30irrational fear, but it came from somewhere real, you might
- 2:34get some value from this session.
- 2:35And if you like the idea of working with me directly for
- 2:38something bespoke for you, there is a 62nd suitability test that
- 2:43you can take by clicking in the description.
- 2:46Doesn't take long to do and you get to find some resources very
- 2:49quick. And I also have created a
- 2:50webinar where I go through the whole process of what it means
- 2:53to work with me, and that's completely free.
- 2:56So check those resources out. For now, find a quiet,
- 3:00comfortable place where. You won't be.
- 3:01Distracted or disturbed, relax and enjoy the session.
- 3:26Take a deep breath in. As you breathe in, breathe in
- 3:34longer and deeper than you normally would.
- 3:37And as you exhale, just allow your eyelids to close.
- 3:42And as your eyelids close, give permission to release any
- 3:48feelings of tension and stress and worry and maybe even anger.
- 3:57Anger and frustration is what happened and shouldn't have.
- 4:04Breathing and a feeling of peace, acceptance and relaxation
- 4:09and releasing all of those emotions from the past,
- 4:14gradually, incrementally. I want you to get a sense that
- 4:24children believe quickly and easily, and sometimes children
- 4:34are told things about fairies and monsters that aren't true.
- 4:44But because children believe so quickly and easily, sometimes a
- 4:50child could believe the monster they've been told about is real.
- 4:58And some parents might describe a monster or an evil person that
- 5:05will do harm to the child unless they do what the parents want
- 5:11tied to their room be good. But what if the monster is
- 5:20something else? Nature.
- 5:23Perhaps that parent could point to the sky and say, look, this
- 5:30is real, this is because of you. And because the lightning or the
- 5:37thunderstorm is real, a child that doesn't know better may
- 5:42believe all of the other things that aren't real because they
- 5:48can see something that is. As you breathe in that feeling
- 5:56of relaxation and exhale any tension, any stress, any
- 6:02worries, I want you to think. Think of the past.
- 6:10And I want you to imagine one of those old photos.
- 6:15And the photo doesn't need to exist, but you can imagine it.
- 6:19You as a child playing football in a rainstorm.
- 6:28And as you stare into the photo, imagine the photo turns into a
- 6:34movie and you can see that happy, smiling, playful child
- 6:41playing football in the rain. And maybe you can see that there
- 6:45was lightning and Thunder and yet the child kept playing
- 6:52football because continuing to play was more important than
- 6:57staying dry. And as you look at that memory,
- 7:04you have irrefutable evidence that you already know how to be
- 7:11calm and relaxed even if there is a thunderstorm.
- 7:20Something changed. That child was told things that
- 7:25weren't true and started to believe things that weren't real
- 7:31and felt real emotions, something that wasn't real.
- 7:40To imagine stepping into that moving picture like you're from
- 7:47the future, going back into the past.
- 7:53And just imagine watching that football game in the
- 7:56thunderstorm, cheering yourself on, encouraging they make a good
- 8:04pass, a good shot. Tell them well done.
- 8:08Give that child approval, encouragement, support,
- 8:16acknowledgement. At the end of that game, I want
- 8:23you to imagine congratulating them, complimenting them, and
- 8:29then tell them a secret. Tell them that you are them from
- 8:34the future, and of course that young version of you doesn't
- 8:39believe you, but here's how you change their mind.
- 8:46Tell that younger version of you, maybe just six or seven
- 8:49years old, a secret that only you could have known.
- 8:59Tell them and convince them that you are them from the future.
- 9:06And when that younger version of you accepts that you are them,
- 9:18but perhaps maybe 30 or 40 years in the future, let me know by
- 9:28nodding your head. And if you need to convince them
- 9:37with any more secrets, tell them about a memory that only they
- 9:43would know. But when they believe that you
- 9:46are them from the future, let me know by nodding your head.
- 10:03Let's sit, breathe in and breathe out.
- 10:05And maybe right now they don't believe, but they don't need to.
- 10:13They just now need to know that you care.
- 10:17You care deeply about the future of this child.
- 10:23And I want you to tell this child that in the future they
- 10:30will be told by people they should be able to trust things
- 10:36that are not true. I want you to ask the child
- 10:42that's just come out of playing football in the rainstorm, what
- 10:47is a thunderstorm? Maybe they say it's just really
- 10:54intense rain. Maybe they say it's just
- 10:59something in nature and tell them they're correct.
- 11:05That's all it is. That when the weather is hot and
- 11:10humid and there's those ions, the static electricity in the
- 11:18air, sometimes the power of all of that energy finds its way
- 11:25down in lightning. That it is something incredible,
- 11:32powerful, fascinating, like magic, but real.
- 11:40And I want you to tell this child what they will be told in
- 11:45the future. They will be told that there are
- 11:54curses and punishments, God's revenge or anger.
- 12:05But tell them that that isn't true.
- 12:09Tell them that that is words being said to try and control
- 12:16and create fear. And I want you to imagine
- 12:24telling this child they are capable, they are intelligent,
- 12:30they can learn fast. But tell this child they should
- 12:34not believe everything they are told.
- 12:38Hug this child, tell this child that they are loved, they are
- 12:44important. And tell this child you will
- 12:51protect them. And then say goodbye and go
- 12:57forwards in time, a year or two, perhaps just a few days before
- 13:06the brainwashing started. And when you see that child
- 13:12again, just a year or two older, notice how happy they are to see
- 13:17you because they know that you care.
- 13:22That child knows you want the best for that child.
- 13:28No criticism, no shaming, no threats, and no gas lighting.
- 13:36You want the best for that child.
- 13:41And tell them that in the next few days they will be told
- 13:45things that aren't true. They will be told lies about
- 13:50thunderstorm and lightning and when they hear it they don't
- 13:57have to believe the lies. The thunderstorms are just
- 14:03nature. Thunderstorms just happen often
- 14:09in summer after a period of lots of heat and humidity.
- 14:18Nothing to do with curses or judgement.
- 14:23Nothing to do with punishment or pain, just nature.
- 14:33And if that younger version of you accepts that to be true, I
- 14:39want you to feel that you have planted a seed of a new tree in
- 14:45the exact place where someone else wanted to plant a different
- 14:50tree. You are planting a tree of
- 14:55resilience and confidence, not fear and shame.
- 15:04And then just imagine observing a few days that first time where
- 15:10someone close to you tried to make you convinced that you were
- 15:15responsible for thunderstorms, that you were causing
- 15:20destruction or pain. But just see that child hearing
- 15:28the words but not believing the words.
- 15:35They don't believe that it's true.
- 15:39And then see, as time goes on, even more effort is made to
- 15:46trick the child to believe something that isn't true, to
- 15:55use coercion, and people all ganging up on the child.
- 16:01But that child is strong. That child does not believe
- 16:06these lies. And because they reject the
- 16:10lies, they also reject the connotations of the lies.
- 16:18I want you to imagine that small child believe something secretly
- 16:24about thunderstorms, that they are fascinating.
- 16:31Thunderstorms are just wonders of nature.
- 16:35Powerful, incredible things, but natural.
- 16:42And actually, I want you to see the next thunderstorm.
- 16:49I want you to see a child that rather than feeling scared or
- 16:53hiding away or avoiding, I want you to see a child that stares
- 16:59into the sky when if there's a thunderstorm, hoping to catch
- 17:05the forked lightning counting the seconds between lightning
- 17:10and Thunder. I want you to see a child with
- 17:15thunderstorms are magnificent, wonderful, and see in the
- 17:28following days, maybe relatives are saying how scary it was, how
- 17:35terrifying it was. But you know yourself, and I
- 17:40want you to see the facial expression of that child hearing
- 17:43these conversations with a secret smile because they don't
- 17:49believe that. They believe that thunderstorms
- 17:52are marvellous, exciting, fun. There's something powerful about
- 18:02electricity coming from the clouds to the ground, and that
- 18:07child is hearing all of these stories of destruction.
- 18:12But they think thunderstorms are amazing, and I want you to
- 18:18imagine stepping into the body of that child, hearing the words
- 18:24from a parent or a grandparent. But even at that age of 9 or 10
- 18:31or 11, you've already made-up your own mind as to what
- 18:37thunderstorms really are. Incredible gifts in nature.
- 18:45They're amazing. And just imagine, the very next
- 18:48thunderstorm is happening late at night, and while everyone's
- 18:53asleep, you find a way to look into the sky, hoping to see the
- 19:02lightning. One thing to hear that rumble of
- 19:06Thunder, it feels the truest sense of the word or the power
- 19:20to amaze and be amazed by nature.
- 19:25And then imagine the following day hearing these stories of oh,
- 19:28how scary it was, how terrifying it was, but feel how you would
- 19:34feel. You don't have to say it, you
- 19:38just know it, that it isn't true for you.
- 19:44What's true for you is that thunderstorms are natural, and
- 19:50if they cause damage, the damage can be repaired.
- 19:54If crops get affected, that's what happens.
- 20:02And we need to get a sense that even at that young age,
- 20:08thunderstorms are cool. Incredible.
- 20:13Amazing. Not to be feared, but to be
- 20:18respected. There was a fine line between
- 20:22fearless and reckless. You can respect the power of a
- 20:28thunderstorm and still not want to go out in the middle of a
- 20:34thunderstorm holding a big metal pole.
- 20:39Why would you? Someone doesn't have to be
- 20:43afraid of a dog to not want to go near a dog that is snarling
- 20:49and aggressive. That's not being afraid.
- 20:54That's being responsible, intelligent.
- 21:00I want you to imagine jumping forward five years.
- 21:05There you are as a teenager, and imagine you're still hearing all
- 21:10of this nonsense about thunderstorms are scary and
- 21:15you're told that you're to blame.
- 21:18It's you. And just imagine, every time you
- 21:24hear something like that, you reject it.
- 21:29They can't make you believe that it's true, and the harder they
- 21:33try, the more you reject the very premise of the idea.
- 21:40In fact, it feels laughable, humorous.
- 21:46How could a child be responsible for a thunderstorm?
- 21:52And the more it's said, the more ridiculous it sounds.
- 21:57And the more ridiculous it sounds, the more something
- 22:01within you finds thunderstorms fascinating.
- 22:06These people that are trying to control and scare you.
- 22:11You quite like it that thunderstorms bother them so
- 22:14much, but they don't bother you. Imagine being a young adult and
- 22:25seeing a really intense thunderstorm and just wanting to
- 22:30watch it. Imagine watching a weather
- 22:33report, hoping to see thunderstorms there in the next
- 22:40few days. You like driving in intense
- 22:48rain. It feels somehow peaceful.
- 22:53If there's any parts of the world that have more
- 22:55thunderstorms, that's a reason to go, not to avoid.
- 23:00I want you to get a sense that this is more than just
- 23:07thunderstorms. It was you learning to think for
- 23:11yourself, to spot hypocrisy early, to see when people's
- 23:21words don't match their actions, and then realise that anything
- 23:26they say probably has an agenda. Arbitrary rules.
- 23:38Religion used to control and coerce you reject it.
- 23:44You can take the very best bits of any religion, the bits that
- 23:49work for you make your life fuller, richer, muffle of
- 23:56kindness and love and respect, and the bits that are used to
- 24:01control or shame you reject them.
- 24:09You can think for yourself, and I want you to imagine this
- 24:14ripples through time and imagine it was more than just you not
- 24:22being afraid of thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are now evidence
- 24:29that you get to think and feel for yourself.
- 24:35Just because someone tells you something is true doesn't mean
- 24:38it is. You don't believe everything you
- 24:43read in the news. You don't believe what
- 24:46politicians tell you all of the time.
- 24:50And not everything that comes from a parent or a relative is
- 24:55either true or beneficial for you.
- 24:58And I want you to feel a sense of liberation.
- 25:05I want you to imagine what it would now feel to be in your
- 25:09present, having had that whole past of you reject the very
- 25:17idea. And I want you to imagine you
- 25:23are waiting and wanting the next thunderstorm, knowing that any
- 25:30anxiety is just echoes of the past and nothing real.
- 25:37Because when you do the very thing that has been controlling
- 25:40you, you are calling the bluff. You are refusing to continue
- 25:49believing something untrue. You are just one or two
- 25:58thunderstorms away from freeing yourself from the lies of your
- 26:06childhood, the shame that was never yours, the pressure that
- 26:13was never yours. And I want you to imagine
- 26:20observing that future version of you, looking forward to the next
- 26:25thunderstorm. The lightning represents power,
- 26:33and that power exists within you.
- 26:37The Thunder represents your voice, being able to say what
- 26:44you never said. Even the energy in the air tells
- 26:52you how powerful you truly are. Before we leave this experience,
- 27:05I want you to imagine a baby circus elephant.
- 27:11And a baby elephant is tied with a rope to a wooden post.
- 27:22And a baby elephant is small. And when it tries to get away,
- 27:29no matter how hard it tried, it couldn't.
- 27:33And at some point that baby elephant starts to believe that
- 27:38it is impossible to ever escape the rope and the post.
- 27:45But as years go by, the once small elephant is now huge.
- 27:53But the elephant has stopped trying.
- 27:57And as you observe that adult elephant with a tiny rope on
- 28:02that wooden post, you know the elephant can walk away whenever
- 28:07it chooses, but has stopped trying.
- 28:14Because the elephant believes something that was true once,
- 28:19it's now stopped them finding freedom when all they have to do
- 28:24is take one step away. And what's true for the elephant
- 28:30is true for you. There was a time that you were
- 28:35powerless, a small child with the power of parents and
- 28:43grandparents. You started to believe something
- 28:48that wasn't true because you had very little other choice.
- 28:53But you are not that child. And what was true once is no
- 28:58longer true. And the very premise of the fear
- 29:02and the shame and the judgement was never true.
- 29:08And the truth will set you free. As you breathe in and breathe
- 29:15out, I want you to notice. Notice an apple tree, a Big
- 29:24Apple tree. But just imagine that somewhere
- 29:29back in time, that apple tree was pulled out by the roots and
- 29:35a pear tree was planted instead. An apple tree can only produce
- 29:43apples, and a pear tree can only produce pears.
- 29:50Because you've gone back in time to the very point where this
- 29:56false fear was planted and planted something else, a tree
- 30:00of fascination rather than a tree of fear.
- 30:07You have now enabled yourself to find something that once was
- 30:13fearful fascinating, and the the more you research and think of
- 30:19it, the more fascinating it becomes.
- 30:25It's time to leave this thought and return back to the present.
- 30:31Take a deep breath in through your nose and out through your
- 30:35nose. Wiggle your fingers and wiggle
- 30:37your toes as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to awaken you.
- 30:42Starting to count 123 waking up 456 more alert 7-8.
- 30:47That's it. Fully, fully wide awake.
- 30:49Wide Awake 910 fully in the present.
- 30:59Thank you so much for joining me on today's episode.
