- 0:01Speaker 1: Hi, I'm Sam Ervin, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:26Speaker 2: It's showtime.
- 0:27Speaker 1: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:30Speaker 1: Picture Association of America.
- 0:33Speaker 3: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:11Speaker 5: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:25Speaker 4: I'm Brian. And I'm George.
- 1:26Speaker 6: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:28Speaker 6: the Oddity Studios for another in the Super Series. The never-ending,
- 1:33Speaker 6: we don't go very long without another installment of the
- 1:36Speaker 6: Super Series.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Huzzah!
- 1:39Speaker 6: So in thinking about that earlier, I was like, it
- 1:42Speaker 6: wasn't that long ago since we sat and talked about
- 1:44Speaker 6: a movie. But like we used to, it timed out
- 1:47Speaker 6: so that like between the last movie to the next movie,
- 1:51Speaker 6: a whole new series would come out and we'd talk
- 1:53Speaker 6: about that series. I was thinking today, I was like,
- 1:55Speaker 6: when's the last like real series? We've had two one-offs.
- 1:59Speaker 6: But like, was She-Hulk the last? Yeah, it was like
- 2:02Speaker 6: She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel and before that was.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Moon Knight.
- 2:07Speaker 6: Moon Knight, yeah. So I was like, I went through
- 2:09Speaker 6: those three in my head and I was like, those
- 2:11Speaker 6: are all a long time ago. Like, She-Hulk wasn't that
- 2:13Speaker 6: long ago, but we talked about it already. So I
- 2:15Speaker 6: was like, I guess they're... Secret Invasion's next up for
- 2:19Speaker 6: the series. And even that, I don't think they've pinned
- 2:21Speaker 6: down a start date.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Yeah, well, that's the thing. We've only seen the trailer
- 2:24Speaker 4: for that one. But most recently, we've seen, like, there's
- 2:27Speaker 4: a Disney Plus commercial. We've seen some new footage for Loki. Yeah.
- 2:31Speaker 4: So we know season two. We know that's coming. And
- 2:33Speaker 4: we definitely, yeah.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Not to jump ahead yet.
- 2:35Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll talk about that in a bit. But yeah,
- 2:39Speaker 4: I mean, there's a bunch of series supposedly this year.
- 2:42Speaker 6: And the new, what's the animated craziness?
- 2:44Speaker 4: That should be soon. What if? Yeah, the what if
- 2:47Speaker 4: should be coming soon too. And supposedly also X-Men 97,
- 2:51Speaker 4: which is the sequel series for the 90s X-Men animated series.
- 2:55Speaker 6: Which, yeah, that was the maybe most beloved of all X-Men.
- 2:59Speaker 6: As time's gone on, even the 90s movies, a little
- 3:02Speaker 6: of the shine has come on.
- 3:03Speaker 4: Yeah. And lately, well, definitely the last one. Kind of
- 3:07Speaker 4: the last two.
- 3:08Speaker 6: So, yeah, I think that's the return of people actually
- 3:11Speaker 6: embracing X-Men.
- 3:13Speaker 4: I will look forward to seeing... what the MCU does
- 3:16Speaker 4: with the X-Men because I've never been 100% satisfied with
- 3:21Speaker 4: any of the X-Men movies. Mostly because they do kind
- 3:24Speaker 4: of what the cartoon did, which was you don't start
- 3:27Speaker 4: with the OG team. You kind of just pick and
- 3:29Speaker 4: choose people throughout the years. Oh, we got to have
- 3:32Speaker 4: Wolverine on there because all the kids love the Wolverine.
- 3:34Speaker 4: I mean, from a business standpoint, I understand.
- 3:37Speaker 6: But thankfully he's retired now and we won't see that
- 3:41Speaker 6: Jackman back playing him ever again.
- 3:45Speaker 4: No. I've already seen the pictures. That's not entirely true.
- 3:50Speaker 6: Well, I knew that even when Logan, I was like,
- 3:53Speaker 6: they'll rope him in for something. I don't know how,
- 3:56Speaker 6: I don't know why, but they'll get him back. Like
- 3:58Speaker 6: he still, he has to love it. It made his
- 4:01Speaker 6: entire life, you know, it's like. you were a nobody
- 4:05Speaker 6: really like, don't get me wrong. I'm sure he would
- 4:07Speaker 6: have been very happy in his hometown doing musicals because
- 4:11Speaker 6: that's his thing. But, but that changed his career. And
- 4:15Speaker 6: I mean, he got to do so many things because
- 4:18Speaker 6: of that.
- 4:18Speaker 4: So, and he's very appreciative of the fandom for Wolverine
- 4:22Speaker 4: and loves those folks just as much as he loves
- 4:24Speaker 4: the greatest show people and whatever else. So that's, that's
- 4:27Speaker 4: really cool. There's, I've been in a long history of
- 4:29Speaker 4: actors who get in genre filmmaking or TV or whatnot,
- 4:34Speaker 4: and they get known for a character despite other projects
- 4:37Speaker 4: they've been in, and they have a hatred for their
- 4:40Speaker 4: fan base. They put money in your pocket, ass. Turn
- 4:45Speaker 4: their back on it. Stuff like that. It's like, come on.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Some handled it well, and some... did not. I don't know.
- 4:55Speaker 4: It just seems like maybe folks are better trained these
- 4:57Speaker 4: days or better prepared because now it just seems like
- 5:00Speaker 4: if anybody likes me, that's cool.
- 5:02Speaker 6: I think the business has changed so much at this point.
- 5:06Speaker 6: Everybody's fighting to find their footing, period. If you need
- 5:11Speaker 6: to do a different type of thing. Again, if you
- 5:14Speaker 6: need to go from doing blockbuster action movies to musicals,
- 5:17Speaker 6: you do it. If you need to start your own
- 5:19Speaker 6: YouTube channel or Get on freaking TikTok.
- 5:22Speaker 4: That's what you do.
- 5:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like, that's what you do.
- 5:26Speaker 4: So I think everybody sort of opened up their options
- 5:29Speaker 4: at this point. One of my favorite things I saw
- 5:31Speaker 4: on social media from the Golden Globes, you may have
- 5:33Speaker 4: seen this too, is that F. Murray Abraham is walking
- 5:36Speaker 4: the red carpet because he got nominated for White Lotus, right?
- 5:39Speaker 4: So he's walking the red carpet and people start cheering.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And at first he's kind of like, yeah, he's just walking.
- 5:45Speaker 4: And then he realized, like, they're getting louder. And so
- 5:48Speaker 4: he kind of turns them. And it's this wonderful real-time realization. Like, oh,
- 5:53Speaker 4: you guys are cheering for me. And he was just
- 5:55Speaker 4: so delighted with it. He's kind of like, you know,
- 5:58Speaker 4: kind of doing a little turn. Just enjoying the moment.
- 6:01Speaker 4: It's like all these people on the red carpet are
- 6:03Speaker 4: screaming for him.
- 6:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:05Speaker 4: And it's this great kind of career resurgence with basically,
- 6:07Speaker 4: of course, Moon Knight and the now White Lotus. He's
- 6:10Speaker 4: kind of had this nice little resurgence being in stuff
- 6:12Speaker 4: people care about and showing off like, hey, this guy's
- 6:16Speaker 4: always been a great actor and thanks for bringing him back.
- 6:19Speaker 6: Yeah, it's nice when people still seem somewhat grounded to him.
- 6:24Speaker 6: Or at least they've been through that. Maybe in the
- 6:27Speaker 6: mid-80s he would have been like, of course they're cheering
- 6:30Speaker 6: for me. But, you know, you take a couple of
- 6:33Speaker 6: shots over the years and it changes your perspective maybe.
- 6:37Speaker 4: It was just such a delight to see him light
- 6:39Speaker 4: up and just realize that they were cheering for him.
- 6:41Speaker 4: It's like, man, that's got to feel good.
- 6:45Speaker 6: So yeah, that was my normal go-to, which I guess
- 6:48Speaker 6: we can't really talk about.
- 6:50Speaker 4: The most recent series that hasn't happened yet. I'm patiently waiting.
- 6:56Speaker 4: We're supposed to be getting possibly Agatha, Covenant of Chaos
- 6:59Speaker 4: towards the end of the year. Possibly Wakanda Forever.
- 7:01Speaker 6: I saw the promos, and I'm like, they're showing clips
- 7:04Speaker 6: from all kinds of stuff. But I'm like, no real
- 7:07Speaker 6: dates on a lot of it.
- 7:08Speaker 4: Well, I know Echo was supposed to be this year,
- 7:11Speaker 4: but I heard there were some production issues that pushed
- 7:13Speaker 4: it back. Of course, they just released a teaser poster
- 7:16Speaker 4: for the Captain Marvel sequel, which informed us that it
- 7:20Speaker 4: will not be coming out in July like we thought.
- 7:22Speaker 4: It's now November. So, like, okay.
- 7:26Speaker 1: But.
- 7:27Speaker 4: To me, though, my wife was like, oh, is that
- 7:29Speaker 4: something wrong? I was like, I don't know, because look
- 7:32Speaker 4: at their schedules. You had Ant-Man in February. It was packed,
- 7:35Speaker 4: I mean, yeah. Marvel's packed at the beginning of the year,
- 7:38Speaker 4: and then basically after the summer, okay, there's the Kraven,
- 7:45Speaker 4: the Hunter movie, which is another Sony, hey, let's do
- 7:48Speaker 4: a Spider-Man villain movie without Spider-Man in it. Let's do a.
- 7:51Speaker 6: Thing that we'll forget we made in a year, let
- 7:53Speaker 6: alone the audiences have already forgotten about it.
- 7:56Speaker 4: You know, it's like Craven's a cool character and nothing
- 7:59Speaker 4: against Aaron Taylor Johnson, but no fucking way.
- 8:03Speaker 6: He keeps trying and nothing. I mean, for somebody who
- 8:06Speaker 6: like has been in so many big, amazing projects, every
- 8:10Speaker 6: time I see him and go, Wait, who's that guy again?
- 8:13Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 8:14Speaker 6: I watched that entire freaking bullet train movie and was like,
- 8:19Speaker 6: who is that guy? Like I got to the end
- 8:21Speaker 6: and then I was like, oh my God, no wonder
- 8:23Speaker 6: he looked familiar the whole movie.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 8:26Speaker 6: It's like, he's just so.
- 8:27Speaker 4: He's a talented guy, but he's kind of got one
- 8:29Speaker 4: of those, like I can blend any, like he's a
- 8:31Speaker 4: good looking dude, but he can also like subterfuge anywhere.
- 8:35Speaker 6: Yeah. And this is why they keep killing you off
- 8:38Speaker 6: in your giant. platform movies and I mean he's been
- 8:42Speaker 6: in such huge attempting to be blockbusters I mean from
- 8:47Speaker 6: Marvel to Godzilla they're trying to cram you into any
- 8:50Speaker 6: big budget thing and the audience are just like nah
- 8:53Speaker 6: I mean.
- 8:54Speaker 4: He had both the kickass movies too so those are
- 8:56Speaker 4: based on see that was.
- 8:57Speaker 6: The only thing people originally knew him for and then
- 8:59Speaker 6: like he kind of bumped up a little bit and
- 9:01Speaker 6: he's like oh not this low budget superhero knockoff thing
- 9:04Speaker 6: we're gonna give you giant big budget movies.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Yeah yeah and the audiences were like what Here's this guy.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Who are you again? No, thanks. Yeah. Yeah. That's just
- 9:14Speaker 4: how it goes. But yeah. So, you know, patiently awaiting
- 9:17Speaker 4: some dates for when shit's going to come out. Cause yeah, I'm, yeah,
- 9:20Speaker 4: I'm looking forward to secret invasion. Definitely Loki season two.
- 9:24Speaker 4: I mean, you know, we're, we're going to get some
- 9:25Speaker 4: more Kang in there. We got, we got our, we
- 9:27Speaker 4: got our proper introduction and the movie we're going to
- 9:30Speaker 4: talk about here in a bit. But, uh, Yeah, we
- 9:32Speaker 4: got like a little tease in season one of Loki,
- 9:35Speaker 4: and this one's kind of like the door swings wide open.
- 9:37Speaker 4: It's like, hello. Oh, yeah.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Yeah. So, I don't know. Do you have anything else
- 9:42Speaker 6: you've watched lately that you'd like to mention? I was
- 9:45Speaker 6: trying to see if I had any other superhero tie-ins.
- 9:48Speaker 6: I've only got one that's a rewatch, really. So, what
- 9:52Speaker 6: have you got to work with?
- 9:53Speaker 4: Well, amongst, of course, always listening to Movie Meltdown, I've
- 9:58Speaker 4: got my own show, Fanatic Forum. I've been obsessed with
- 10:02Speaker 4: another podcast recently called Video Archives. Are you Are you
- 10:06Speaker 4: familiar with this one?
- 10:07Speaker 6: I think I recently heard about it.
- 10:10Speaker 4: This is a Quentin Tarantino, Roger Avery podcast.
- 10:14Speaker 6: That was the one, yeah. I was like, wait, Tarantino
- 10:17Speaker 6: has a podcast?
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Who doesn't? At this point, they just issue you one.
- 10:22Speaker 6: Go to the grocery store and on your way out,
- 10:24Speaker 6: they're like, oh, and here's your sign-up sheet for your podcast.
- 10:27Speaker 4: This is a concept that was made for Tarantino. Because
- 10:30Speaker 4: what it is, the video archives was the name of
- 10:32Speaker 4: the video store that both he and Roger worked at
- 10:35Speaker 4: for a number of years. And then it closed down
- 10:38Speaker 4: and that was, it closed down like, it closed down
- 10:40Speaker 4: and then his career, their careers kind of launched almost,
- 10:44Speaker 4: not quite simultaneously, but pretty close.
- 10:46Speaker 6: What did it close down for?
- 10:48Speaker 4: Basically, they had to move locations. Well, the initial thing was,
- 10:54Speaker 4: because they were like Redondo Beach or something like that.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And so the initial location they were in was super popular.
- 11:01Speaker 4: That was the hangout place. It was the place to be.
- 11:04Speaker 4: It was like Wild and Wooly in its heyday. Because
- 11:07Speaker 4: all the cinephiles hung out there, but it was the
- 11:12Speaker 4: place to be for video people. then they had to
- 11:14Speaker 4: move locations. And the second location was a little bit
- 11:18Speaker 4: further out, wasn't easily as accessible, and they didn't get
- 11:21Speaker 4: as much traffic. And then, of course, you know, things happen.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Video stores start closing down left to right. Yada, yada, yada.
- 11:28Speaker 6: The world has changed.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah. But the whole concept is that basically Tarantino and
- 11:33Speaker 4: Avery bought the collection that Video Archives had. Tarantino bought
- 11:37Speaker 4: all the videocassettes. avery brought all the laser discs and
- 11:40Speaker 4: so the entire podcast is them talking about these movies
- 11:44Speaker 4: and reviewing them they pick like a couple of movies
- 11:46Speaker 4: an episode like two or three something like.
- 11:48Speaker 6: That so they can only do things that were in
- 11:50Speaker 6: the video store so it has a time cap on it.
- 11:53Speaker 4: It does have a time cap uh there's a lot
- 11:56Speaker 4: of uh exploitation stuff that's in there because that of
- 11:58Speaker 4: course you know that's obviously that's tarantino's you know who
- 12:01Speaker 4: he is yeah yeah he that's his you know bread
- 12:03Speaker 4: and butter But it's all over the place. They talk
- 12:07Speaker 4: about a lot of A-movies, too. Some known titles. They
- 12:11Speaker 4: talk about some foreign films, too. It's all over the place. Basically,
- 12:17Speaker 4: if you love the kind of movies that Tarantino loves,
- 12:20Speaker 4: when he makes certain movies he appreciates, this is a
- 12:23Speaker 4: fucking great podcast.
- 12:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 12:26Speaker 4: But it's nice because it's got me going out and
- 12:29Speaker 4: watching movies that... Let's see. One-Armed Executioner That's a– I
- 12:35Speaker 4: think it was a movie that was made in– it
- 12:36Speaker 4: was like a Taiwan-made or Malaysian-made film. Yeah. Actually, not
- 12:42Speaker 4: too bad. But it's a revenge film. Basically, dude gets–
- 12:45Speaker 4: his wife is killed. He gets his arm chopped off.
- 12:49Speaker 4: And then he goes after– he learns to fight one-handed
- 12:52Speaker 4: and then goes and goes after the bad guys that
- 12:55Speaker 4: killed his wife and took his arm. There was a
- 12:59Speaker 4: Mexican horror movie called Demonoid. Basically, it's like a possessed hand.
- 13:04Speaker 4: movie the name sounds familiar yeah yeah it was one
- 13:07Speaker 4: of those movies that had like a tremendously awesome box
- 13:10Speaker 4: art and so it's like oh those are the ones
- 13:12Speaker 4: i remember most really yeah it had great it had
- 13:15Speaker 4: great box art and uh fortunately the movie does kind
- 13:19Speaker 4: of live up to the cool box art um that's
- 13:21Speaker 4: good it's a very well-made movie and the practical effects
- 13:25Speaker 4: especially on the crawling hand are amazing. Because, like, you
- 13:30Speaker 4: can't see, like, the wires and you can't, you know.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Yeah, it was just really well done. I was like,
- 13:37Speaker 6: this is a low-budget Mexican-made movie. It's not like it's Wednesday.
- 13:41Speaker 6: That makes sense.
- 13:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it wasn't the Addams Family movies where it's CG. Yeah,
- 13:45Speaker 4: even then, it was pretty good. It's like, this is
- 13:47Speaker 4: almost better than the hand movie, like the Michael Caine.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:52Speaker 4: This is better practical effects than that. And that had
- 13:55Speaker 4: a budget. Yeah, that had a budget. At the time.
- 13:57Speaker 4: A lot of those hand scenes where it's crawling are dark.
- 14:01Speaker 4: they do a lot of these like bright daylight, full
- 14:05Speaker 4: on lit room. And here's the hand crawling. It's like,
- 14:08Speaker 4: I don't see how they did that.
- 14:10Speaker 6: So it's just found a possessed disembodied hand.
- 14:15Speaker 4: But it, you know, there's lots of other fun movies, uh,
- 14:18Speaker 4: blind rage, uh, five blind dudes, rob a bank. Um,
- 14:22Speaker 4: and the funny thing is like, it's, it was a
- 14:25Speaker 4: Fred Williamson movie too. Cause like, it was like a,
- 14:28Speaker 4: he was reprising a character he'd done in other movies and,
- 14:30Speaker 4: But Fred Williamson is literally in the last 15 minutes
- 14:34Speaker 4: of the movie. When it's time to bust the guys,
- 14:37Speaker 4: at the end of the movie, he shows up with
- 14:39Speaker 4: the cops. And, like, there's literally one scene of him, like,
- 14:42Speaker 4: we got to take these guys down. All right, chief,
- 14:44Speaker 4: let's go. And then they go and bust the guys,
- 14:46Speaker 4: and that's it.
- 14:46Speaker 6: And it was like, hit that scene. Time to bring
- 14:49Speaker 6: in the big names.
- 14:52Speaker 4: But the whole movie is, like, the blind guys, like,
- 14:55Speaker 4: figuring out the job, kind of like literally working it out,
- 14:59Speaker 4: like how they're going to do it because, I mean,
- 15:00Speaker 4: they're all blind. So you've got to figure out how
- 15:02Speaker 4: to do it and how they've got to put taps
- 15:05Speaker 4: on their shoes so they know who's who and they
- 15:06Speaker 4: don't shoot each other. It's really clever, really well done.
- 15:10Speaker 4: It seems like a lot of extra work. There's a
- 15:13Speaker 4: lot of stuff. The whole three-quarters of the movie is
- 15:16Speaker 4: the setup. the working out the job, performing the job,
- 15:21Speaker 4: and then the chaos that happens after the job. And
- 15:24Speaker 4: then Fred Williamson comes in for the last 10 to
- 15:27Speaker 4: 15 minutes of the movie like, ah, you're under arrest. Oh,
- 15:29Speaker 4: I'm going to kill you. He beats up one dude.
- 15:33Speaker 6: One dude. Again, sometimes these smaller movies just bank on,
- 15:38Speaker 6: this is our name, we can work him in, even
- 15:40Speaker 6: if it's for a scene, we gotta go with it.
- 15:43Speaker 4: So I'm not surprised. That's what you do. But there
- 15:46Speaker 4: was some other stuff. They were talking about Dressed to Kill.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Because Tarantino is a huge De Palma fan. And so
- 15:54Speaker 4: that kind of got me. I haven't seen Dressed to
- 15:56Speaker 4: Kill in about 20 years. I re-watched it in the
- 15:59Speaker 4: last year or so. But one De Palma classic that
- 16:03Speaker 4: was kind of a Wasn't appreciated at the time, but
- 16:05Speaker 4: it's become appreciated now, was Blowout. And I'd never actually
- 16:08Speaker 4: seen that one before. I loved Blowout.
- 16:09Speaker 6: Like, even as a kid, I remember really liking that one,
- 16:12Speaker 6: even though I probably shouldn't have been watching it.
- 16:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 6: But, yeah, I remember that was one that I really
- 16:16Speaker 6: got attached to at the time, and then I ran
- 16:18Speaker 6: across a copy of the Criterion version. I was like, well, obviously,
- 16:22Speaker 6: I need this. So, yeah, I rewatched it then, and
- 16:25Speaker 6: I want to kind of dig into all the special features, because, yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 6: that was, I think, one of his better, like, there's
- 16:30Speaker 6: some off stuff that De Palma did, but, like, that's
- 16:33Speaker 6: Right in the middle when he was maybe at his
- 16:35Speaker 6: most solid.
- 16:36Speaker 4: And it's kind of funny because, like, he, of course,
- 16:38Speaker 4: uses a lot of the same, you know, visual tricks and,
- 16:41Speaker 4: you know, tricks that he did in Dressed to Kill,
- 16:44Speaker 4: which was literally, like, this was his follow-up to Dressed
- 16:46Speaker 4: to Kill. Yeah. So, like, it was, like, a couple
- 16:47Speaker 4: years later, wasn't it? Nancy Allen once again playing a prostitute.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Go to, yeah. Which, of course, they were married at
- 16:54Speaker 4: the time, so that's why she got used a lot.
- 16:57Speaker 4: But the funny thing was, like, The prostitute she plays
- 16:59Speaker 4: in Dressed to Kill is like Nancy Drew, but she
- 17:02Speaker 4: also hooks on the side. Whereas the prostitute she plays
- 17:05Speaker 4: in Blowout is like.
- 17:07Speaker 6: Geez, shucks, I gotta collect $ 5 here. Oh, I'm getting mined.
- 17:12Speaker 6: Somehow she's so adorable at doing that and shouldn't be.
- 17:16Speaker 6: You should just be like, okay, whatever, let's get rid
- 17:19Speaker 6: of this prostitute. But no, because it's Nancy Allen, she
- 17:23Speaker 6: makes it work somehow.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Yeah, she is adorable, but you know it's like you're
- 17:27Speaker 4: just waiting for her to get murdered. You know it's coming.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:31Speaker 6: And it's got such a messed up ending, too. Again,
- 17:35Speaker 6: that's one of those things that stuck with me at
- 17:36Speaker 6: the time. As a kid, when I was like, movies
- 17:40Speaker 6: don't end like this, right? And I was just like, oh.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I was like, well then, this is a different kind
- 17:44Speaker 4: of movie. Yeah, because... I was watching it, you know,
- 17:48Speaker 4: by myself. And then my wife was out somewhere. She
- 17:50Speaker 4: comes in for like maybe like the last half hour
- 17:52Speaker 4: of the movie. So I was telling her kind of
- 17:53Speaker 4: a little bit what it was. And she's kind of
- 17:54Speaker 4: paying attention. And then literally sees, you know, at the
- 17:57Speaker 4: end where he's like all forlorn that she gets murdered.
- 18:00Speaker 4: But he had captured it on audio. And then basically
- 18:03Speaker 4: like he's sitting there editing it. And you're like, wait,
- 18:06Speaker 4: is he?
- 18:07Speaker 6: No.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Oh, my God. He's sampling her death rattle. That was
- 18:12Speaker 4: the good scream that he finally got was her getting murdered. Free. Oh,
- 18:17Speaker 4: that's fucked up. It's a mess. But so good. Yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 4: Sorry to spoil like a 50 year old movie here,
- 18:24Speaker 4: but God damn.
- 18:26Speaker 6: If you haven't seen it, you should watch it. It's amazing.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Yeah. It was, it was, it was so weird because
- 18:30Speaker 4: it bombed in theaters.
- 18:32Speaker 6: Oh yeah. It didn't do. Well, I mean, even Dressed
- 18:35Speaker 6: to Kill didn't do that good. Like, I think in
- 18:38Speaker 6: years later, people look back and go, oh, that was
- 18:41Speaker 6: one of his bigger ones. But I'm like, I don't
- 18:42Speaker 6: remember it being huge. I think it did better than
- 18:45Speaker 6: his earlier smaller budget stuff.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But still. It did well, but it was kind of
- 18:49Speaker 4: all those things, too. Like, you know, when it hit video,
- 18:51Speaker 4: it picked up a little bit more. And, you know,
- 18:53Speaker 4: of course, it was infamous for many reasons.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Well, yeah.
- 18:56Speaker 6: It's also so, again, I forgot all the weird aspects
- 18:59Speaker 6: that come in halfway through.
- 19:01Speaker 4: I was like, oh.
- 19:02Speaker 6: Yeah, this is kind of different for as early as
- 19:04Speaker 6: it was.
- 19:04Speaker 4: It's like 80, I think. Yeah, 80 or 81, yeah.
- 19:07Speaker 6: Yeah, it was pretty early on to be working in
- 19:09Speaker 6: some of the weird things that, you know, nobody was
- 19:11Speaker 6: talking about at that time.
- 19:13Speaker 4: Well, and it's interesting, too, because De Palma, yeah, because
- 19:16Speaker 4: there's a lot of people who have been at a
- 19:17Speaker 4: lot of criticism because basically, like, you know, the twist
- 19:20Speaker 4: with Michael Caine being trans and being homicidal and whatever else.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Which happened a lot in these movies and nobody cared.
- 19:26Speaker 6: Question it at the time. They all kind of get
- 19:28Speaker 6: re-evaluated these days.
- 19:30Speaker 4: But the thing is that people have been critical of
- 19:31Speaker 4: the movie, but they also don't realize that De Palma
- 19:34Speaker 4: lays his cards down very easily. Like, there's a Donahue clip.
- 19:38Speaker 4: I mean, I just watched this movie literally less than
- 19:40Speaker 4: three weeks ago.
- 19:41Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 19:41Speaker 4: It's like there's a Donahue clip where someone who is
- 19:44Speaker 4: trans and not homicidal is talking about their story of
- 19:49Speaker 4: their sex change. and whatever else. And Donahue is approaching
- 19:53Speaker 4: this at a normal– he's not being salacious about it.
- 19:56Speaker 6: He was actually pretty good about that in the beginning.
- 19:59Speaker 6: I think he had to compete later when all the
- 20:02Speaker 6: knockoffs of his.
- 20:04Speaker 4: Show came along.
- 20:05Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 20:05Speaker 6: And he got as trashy as they did. But in
- 20:07Speaker 6: the beginning, he was a pretty decent representation of trying
- 20:11Speaker 6: to look at actual events going on in the world.
- 20:14Speaker 4: De Palma establishes this is the reality of trans people.
- 20:19Speaker 4: This particular one happens to be a split personality and homicidal. Oh,
- 20:25Speaker 4: and one of the personalities wants to have a sex change,
- 20:29Speaker 4: but the other personality does not. So this is not normal.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Over here, normal. Michael Caine, not normal. So De Palma's
- 20:39Speaker 4: very good about establishing that and saying, let's be a
- 20:41Speaker 4: little sensitive. Like, okay, this is a cool gimmick here,
- 20:43Speaker 4: but it's also let's be sensitive to the real people
- 20:45Speaker 4: who actually are going through something like this. and are
- 20:48Speaker 4: not homicidal split personality.
- 20:50Speaker 6: Well, I wasn't. Again, I was going to try to
- 20:53Speaker 6: steer more towards superhero rewatches, but since we're on random
- 20:58Speaker 6: weird stuff, and one that I knew of, I didn't
- 21:02Speaker 6: expect what was about to happen. And while we're on
- 21:06Speaker 6: creepy people, this is not so much Brian De Palma,
- 21:09Speaker 6: but as directors go, have you seen Match Point?
- 21:13Speaker 4: Oh, the Woody Allen?
- 21:15Speaker 6: Yeah, it is like.
- 21:17Speaker 4: I did not see that.
- 21:18Speaker 6: I mean, it's a Woody Allen movie, so I very
- 21:21Speaker 6: much expect some sort of relationship drama, blah, blah, whatever.
- 21:25Speaker 6: Sometimes he throws in a little comedy, but this seemed
- 21:27Speaker 6: like it was leaning more towards relationship drama.
- 21:30Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, whatever.
- 21:31Speaker 6: And you get more than halfway. It's like two-thirds of
- 21:35Speaker 6: the way through that movie, and it takes a turn
- 21:37Speaker 6: that I won't necessarily spoil. I don't know that anybody's
- 21:40Speaker 6: lining up to watch a Woody Allen movie at this point.
- 21:42Speaker 6: I was even kind of... If it didn't have, I
- 21:44Speaker 6: guess there's my tie and it had Scarlet. And I'm like, well,
- 21:47Speaker 6: I kind of want to see this performance because it
- 21:48Speaker 6: was right at that. point when she was breaking out
- 21:51Speaker 6: and becoming scarlett johansson but she was no wasn't quite
- 21:55Speaker 6: what she is in today so yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 4: It was more like she was you know like this
- 21:58Speaker 4: was a few movies after uh ghost world yeah so
- 22:02Speaker 4: she was being well known as an actress and a
- 22:04Speaker 4: critical darling before she became black widow.
- 22:06Speaker 6: Yeah establishing herself but not your big a-lister that you
- 22:09Speaker 6: know you go to first on the list for any
- 22:12Speaker 6: upcoming movie where she was just like oh, this girl
- 22:14Speaker 6: is ridiculously attractive and I want her in my movie.
- 22:17Speaker 6: And then you get to this movie and I'm like,
- 22:18Speaker 6: oh no, Woody Allen knows. And like, he so makes
- 22:21Speaker 6: use of that. And it works for what they're trying
- 22:24Speaker 6: to do in this movie. So it's like, she's perfectly
- 22:27Speaker 6: used in a movie that is a bunch of weird,
- 22:30Speaker 6: you know, British people. Like she's the one lone American
- 22:34Speaker 6: and she's very like out of her element and kind
- 22:37Speaker 6: of forced into this scenario and is like, sort of
- 22:40Speaker 6: coasting on it in the beginning, and then as time
- 22:42Speaker 6: goes on, things get a little more complicated, as relationship
- 22:46Speaker 6: dramas do. And yeah, we get... And like I said,
- 22:49Speaker 6: I won't spoil it, but two-thirds of the way through,
- 22:52Speaker 6: it changes gears in a way that I did not
- 22:55Speaker 6: see coming.
- 22:56Speaker 4: And it's good, yeah. It's impressive.
- 22:59Speaker 6: I mean, it's not necessarily a fun movie, but again,
- 23:02Speaker 6: when do you go to Woody Allen.
- 23:03Speaker 4: For fun anymore?
- 23:05Speaker 8: Well, I.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Much like I would say that Inside Man is a
- 23:09Speaker 4: Spike Lee movie for people who don't like Spike Lee,
- 23:12Speaker 4: Match Point is a Woody Allen movie for people who
- 23:15Speaker 4: don't like Woody Allen movies.
- 23:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 4: Because you could safely say I've seen a Woody Allen movie,
- 23:20Speaker 4: but that movie is Match Point, which is unlike anything
- 23:23Speaker 4: he's ever done before. It starts off like you would think.
- 23:26Speaker 4: There's a little bit of a twist to it. The
- 23:28Speaker 4: whole British side of things is a little different. Yeah,
- 23:30Speaker 4: which is weird.
- 23:30Speaker 6: And that they're talking so much about tennis in the beginning.
- 23:33Speaker 6: I was like... Does Woody Allen really know this much
- 23:35Speaker 6: about tennis? Or is it a recent obsession or something
- 23:38Speaker 6: like that? Because it's not even normal novice tennis. He
- 23:41Speaker 6: was on the circuit. He was a professional tennis player,
- 23:44Speaker 6: and they're making those kind of, if you're at that level,
- 23:48Speaker 6: the kind of conversations you would have.
- 23:50Speaker 4: And I'm like.
- 23:51Speaker 6: Did he have to do research, I suppose? Because I
- 23:53Speaker 6: don't think Woody Allen's that level of tennis.
- 23:55Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know. This isn't like Luke Wilson
- 23:58Speaker 4: and the Royal Tenenbaums where like, okay, one of the
- 24:00Speaker 4: kids plays tennis, but you just see him in the gear.
- 24:02Speaker 4: We don't actually talk about tennis.
- 24:04Speaker 6: You just put a funny headband on and you're a
- 24:07Speaker 6: tennis player.
- 24:08Speaker 4: But this is kind of like, if you enjoy tennis,
- 24:10Speaker 4: the real ins and outs of it, this is some
- 24:13Speaker 4: fan service. In the first 20 minutes or so, yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Then it veers in a different direction for that middle part,
- 24:18Speaker 6: and then it takes a hard left turn.
- 24:21Speaker 4: But, yeah, it definitely surprised me, but in a good way. So, yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 4: I haven't seen it probably since it came out. But, yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 4: it's definitely worth checking out.
- 24:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I did not expect it to not only do
- 24:36Speaker 6: what it did, but I also didn't, like, I think
- 24:39Speaker 6: I was mixing it up with all the other ones
- 24:41Speaker 6: because then, again, no surprise being who he is, he
- 24:44Speaker 6: really likes Scarlett Johansson and wanted to use her. So
- 24:47Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure at some point I'll watch the one
- 24:49Speaker 6: where she's like, trying to solve a mystery and it's
- 24:51Speaker 6: way more comedy. And like, was that the movie that
- 24:55Speaker 6: was that after match point or was it before? Cause
- 24:58Speaker 6: he did like two with her right. I know right
- 24:59Speaker 6: in a row. I can't, what was that one? Cause
- 25:02Speaker 6: isn't like one of the guys is dead and she's
- 25:07Speaker 6: like talking to this ghost and trying to solve a
- 25:10Speaker 6: mystery or something.
- 25:12Speaker 4: Yeah. I know what that one is, but it's the,
- 25:15Speaker 4: you know, the, scorpion woman or something like that or.
- 25:19Speaker 6: Curse of the jade scorpion but that wasn't her that's
- 25:22Speaker 6: not the one i'm thinking of but it's not sleuth
- 25:26Speaker 6: that's michael cain again but i'm thinking it's like a
- 25:29Speaker 6: one word something like that that came out right around
- 25:31Speaker 6: that same time scoop that's the one see i told
- 25:36Speaker 6: you it was close to that yeah so yeah i
- 25:37Speaker 6: remember seeing scoop and then i at the same time
- 25:41Speaker 6: sort of in the span of a couple years that
- 25:44Speaker 6: wimbledon movie which didn't that have kirsten dunst or something
- 25:47Speaker 6: like somehow i rolled all those into one and i
- 25:50Speaker 6: keep going now wait which one is this is this
- 25:52Speaker 6: a comedy is she solving a mystery are they at
- 25:54Speaker 6: wimbledon like i knew there was like way too many
- 25:57Speaker 6: things all kind of rolled into one at that time
- 26:00Speaker 6: period i was like I'm going to have to watch
- 26:02Speaker 6: this and figure out which one it is. And yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 6: I did not expect it to.
- 26:05Speaker 4: Be that serious, number one.
- 26:07Speaker 6: And then definitely not the serious level it gets to
- 26:10Speaker 6: by the end of the movie.
- 26:11Speaker 4: Yeah, so Match Point came first in 2005 and then
- 26:14Speaker 4: Scoop followed the next year. So there you go.
- 26:17Speaker 6: Yeah, Scoop is pretty goofy, if I remember. And I
- 26:19Speaker 6: don't mean in a bad way because, again, I like
- 26:20Speaker 6: Scarlett Johansson.
- 26:21Speaker 4: So I enjoyed it, but....
- 26:24Speaker 6: Even for Woody Allen, it's kind of a different level
- 26:27Speaker 6: of goofy.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Oh, and then the third film he did with her,
- 26:31Speaker 4: Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in 2008. Again, I think he just
- 26:35Speaker 4: likes Scarlett. He just likes Scarlett, yeah. I mean, I
- 26:38Speaker 4: get it, but he's on a different level.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I'm trying to think what else here. Well, of course,
- 26:46Speaker 4: I've been binging Only Murderers in the Building on Hulu.
- 26:50Speaker 6: As you should. One of my favorite shows ever.
- 26:53Speaker 4: I basically did the first season in two days, and
- 26:57Speaker 4: so I'm stretching out the second season a little bit more,
- 26:58Speaker 4: but I've only got like three episodes left, so I'm
- 27:01Speaker 4: waiting third season now.
- 27:02Speaker 6: It goes quickly, yeah. Even this last season, I was
- 27:06Speaker 6: watching it weekly, and I was like, oh wait, it's
- 27:08Speaker 6: already done? It seemed like it wrapped up even faster
- 27:11Speaker 6: the second season than the first, so.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Yeah, because I'm a sucker for anything Martin Short. And
- 27:18Speaker 4: then when he and Steve Martin get together, it's just magic.
- 27:20Speaker 4: And Selena Gomez is killing it, man. That was my thing.
- 27:23Speaker 6: I was like, I went into it because of Selena,
- 27:26Speaker 6: because I'm already a Selena dork. But, I mean, I
- 27:28Speaker 6: grew up Steve Martin more than anything. And I had
- 27:32Speaker 6: a weird thing for Martin Short. He's back and forth.
- 27:35Speaker 6: He can be solid, and then he can be crazy
- 27:38Speaker 6: over the top. And, like, he finds a nice balance
- 27:41Speaker 6: in that. Like, he's so, like, goofy Martin Short. And
- 27:45Speaker 6: then he'll, like, once or twice a season just deliver
- 27:49Speaker 6: a scene that you're like, oh, I forgot he can act. Like,
- 27:53Speaker 6: if called upon, he can actually be a serious actor.
- 27:56Speaker 6: But most of the time, he's still kind of goofy
- 27:58Speaker 6: Martin Short.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's my favorite, Martin Short. I've probably seen, like,
- 28:04Speaker 4: Three Amigos and Inner Space dozens upon dozens of times.
- 28:09Speaker 4: SCTV stuff. Oh, yeah. Very, very brief stint on SNL.
- 28:14Speaker 4: You know, that's the thing. He was on SNL for
- 28:16Speaker 4: barely a season, but created the Ed Grimley character, and
- 28:19Speaker 4: then now he's an iconic SNL cast member because of
- 28:22Speaker 4: one sketch.
- 28:23Speaker 6: That's the thing. I remember that was the go-to when
- 28:25Speaker 6: I was a kid for him. It was like, yeah,
- 28:28Speaker 6: my cousin and I thought Ed Grimley was the funniest
- 28:30Speaker 6: thing ever. And like, so yeah, just waited every Saturday.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Like, are they going to do another one?
- 28:34Speaker 6: Are they going to? So that was its own level
- 28:37Speaker 6: of dorkiness.
- 28:38Speaker 4: But yeah, he's... He's an interesting guy. And then being
- 28:41Speaker 4: a movie fan, especially like, you know, movie. I kind
- 28:45Speaker 4: of have a love-hate with movie critics because there's some
- 28:47Speaker 4: that are really good. But then, of course, they end
- 28:49Speaker 4: up trashing movies I like. I'm like, you're an idiot.
- 28:52Speaker 4: But Jiminy Glick was the best.
- 28:55Speaker 6: I mean, he just, talk about, again, talk about over
- 28:58Speaker 6: the top, but commitment. Like, he was knee deep in
- 29:02Speaker 6: the insanity on that and just never breaks. Like, he
- 29:06Speaker 6: is just crazy. So committed to that ridiculousness.
- 29:09Speaker 4: And it was kind of groundbreaking at the time because
- 29:11Speaker 4: this was before Sacha Baron Cohen doing Ali G. This
- 29:15Speaker 4: is before Zach Galifianakis doing Between Two Ferns. So it's
- 29:18Speaker 4: like he was doing the exact same of I am
- 29:21Speaker 4: a character. I'm doing cringe comedy. I'm going to make
- 29:24Speaker 4: you feel uncomfortable or even anger you. And I hope
- 29:28Speaker 4: to do that for the sake of comedy. And I'm
- 29:31Speaker 4: going to be committed 100%.
- 29:32Speaker 6: And even funnier if you're like a fan of you
- 29:35Speaker 6: know movies and celebrities in general because he's just does
- 29:40Speaker 6: not know who any of these people are and like
- 29:42Speaker 6: it doesn't phase him like and would get them the
- 29:45Speaker 6: actual actors in to do this and would just like
- 29:49Speaker 6: one slap in the face after another of like not
- 29:51Speaker 6: knowing who they are not knowing what movies like confusing
- 29:54Speaker 6: them for the wrong people like Just that kind of stuff.
- 29:57Speaker 6: And like, again, it wasn't fully scripted and you couldn't
- 30:01Speaker 6: tell exactly how far he was gonna push it with them.
- 30:04Speaker 4: And yeah, that was... And very, very, very vacuous sort
- 30:09Speaker 4: of personality.
- 30:09Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 30:10Speaker 4: But, you know, of course, just like anybody who is
- 30:14Speaker 4: a film fan or you're a film critic or you're
- 30:16Speaker 4: in the industry or whatever else, you've got your favorite
- 30:18Speaker 4: era of Hollywood. And that's what you're obsessed with. That's
- 30:22Speaker 4: your knowledge base. But it doesn't extend from there.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 4: So it's like if you're talking to, you know, Vanessa Redgrave, okay, cool. Yeah,
- 30:31Speaker 4: I can talk about some stuff you've been in and
- 30:32Speaker 4: I've enjoyed things. I've seen movies you're in. I know
- 30:35Speaker 4: who you are, but you bring in like a current star.
- 30:37Speaker 4: Who are you? What have you done? I'm, you know,
- 30:41Speaker 4: Justin Timberlake. You know, my records do all this stuff.
- 30:44Speaker 4: My movies do all this stuff. You know, I'm well known.
- 30:48Speaker 4: I'm a big star. Who are you? You know, it's
- 30:51Speaker 4: kind of like, yeah. Great stuff. I've been wanting to
- 30:57Speaker 4: watch the show for a while, but I'm on the
- 31:00Speaker 4: murder train now. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. But yeah, so
- 31:04Speaker 4: basically the Tarantino podcast, watching movies they're talking about that
- 31:08Speaker 4: I've never seen, and then only murders. That's what I've
- 31:10Speaker 4: been jamming on.
- 31:11Speaker 6: Which, I guess, if you haven't gotten to the end
- 31:14Speaker 6: of this season, you may have already seen promos for
- 31:16Speaker 6: the next season.
- 31:17Speaker 4: I have not. There is.
- 31:18Speaker 6: Definitely a crossover with where we're going today.
- 31:21Speaker 4: That's cool, okay.
- 31:22Speaker 6: It'll be interesting when you get to the end of
- 31:24Speaker 6: the season, because I did not see what's coming.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I'm very good about kind of staying off social media
- 31:32Speaker 4: for certain things or missing certain things I have a
- 31:35Speaker 4: talent for it I know what I'm supposed to know
- 31:37Speaker 4: and if I'm not supposed to know something I have
- 31:39Speaker 4: a talent for missing it so I didn't even know
- 31:42Speaker 4: a season I knew they were working on a season
- 31:44Speaker 4: 3 I didn't know it's on the way in the
- 31:46Speaker 4: relative future yeah it's pretty close so that's great because
- 31:49Speaker 4: I'm going to have to wait too long after I
- 31:51Speaker 4: get season 2 finished.
- 31:54Speaker 6: Well with that should we go ahead and jump to
- 31:58Speaker 6: this movie of the episode.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I will, but I've got to plug your show once here,
- 32:04Speaker 4: just because I watched the, you all talked about Choose
- 32:08Speaker 4: or Die with Nora and Phillip.
- 32:10Speaker 6: Sorry about that.
- 32:12Speaker 4: Well, the funny thing was, I actually watched that episode,
- 32:14Speaker 4: I saw that movie before you guys talked about it.
- 32:17Speaker 4: So I'm like, hey, it's the first time I'm ahead
- 32:19Speaker 4: of you guys. Because most of the time I'm like, oh,
- 32:21Speaker 4: you all were talking about something, and I'll go and
- 32:23Speaker 4: watch it after you all talked about it. Or I'll
- 32:26Speaker 4: watch it before you all talk about it. But in
- 32:27Speaker 4: this case, I was like, I was prepared. And I agree.
- 32:30Speaker 4: That was just... It's so clunky.
- 32:33Speaker 6: Like, it's got good ideas, but few and far between
- 32:38Speaker 6: compared to what you're served up all hour and a
- 32:41Speaker 6: half or however long.
- 32:42Speaker 4: Yeah, so, but yeah. And I felt back as, of course,
- 32:47Speaker 4: there was one time, like, Nora made a recommendation about
- 32:49Speaker 4: a movie, and I'm like, oh yeah, that was great.
- 32:51Speaker 4: It was the YouTuber guy that got in the haunted
- 32:55Speaker 4: house movie. Yeah, that was great. Deadstreams. That's what, yeah,
- 32:59Speaker 4: I think. I think that's what it's called, Deadstreams? Deadstream,
- 33:02Speaker 4: something like that. Something like that, yeah. But Philip had
- 33:04Speaker 4: made a recommendation about something, was talking about something. I
- 33:06Speaker 4: can't remember what it was, though, and I agreed with
- 33:08Speaker 4: Philip about his recommendation. And I, sorry, Philip, but.
- 33:11Speaker 6: I feel like he's done more series lately, so it
- 33:13Speaker 6: might have been one of those.
- 33:15Speaker 4: I know he watched Cabinet of Curiosities. What else have
- 33:18Speaker 4: we talked about? But it seemed like he's done series lately. Yeah,
- 33:21Speaker 4: I can't remember. There was something that Philip recommended and
- 33:23Speaker 4: I was in agreeance with him on that. So I
- 33:26Speaker 4: want to give him a shout out this time to
- 33:28Speaker 4: not make him feel left out.
- 33:33Speaker 6: Well, I'm glad someone's taking to heart these important things
- 33:36Speaker 6: that we're discussing.
- 33:37Speaker 4: That's right.
- 33:40Speaker 6: I mean, normally I don't try to make it quite
- 33:42Speaker 6: so obvious, but I sort of Showing our hand in
- 33:45Speaker 6: the title of that one. I couldn't not. Like, I
- 33:48Speaker 6: got to it and I was like, ah, damn it.
- 33:50Speaker 6: I'm going to have to title the episode Snooze or Die.
- 33:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 33:54Speaker 6: Not really a secret how we felt about it right
- 33:56Speaker 6: from the get-go.
- 33:57Speaker 4: It's bad. I tell you what, there's a couple of
- 34:00Speaker 4: cool comics I'm reading right now. One is definitely... There's
- 34:05Speaker 4: one that's being made into a movie, Warner Brothers doing it,
- 34:08Speaker 4: called Night of the Ghoul. I think I talked about
- 34:10Speaker 4: this one before. Yeah, I think so. Yeah, Warner Brothers
- 34:12Speaker 4: said they're going to make a movie out of it.
- 34:14Speaker 4: It was three issues. It was amazing. Great kind of
- 34:17Speaker 4: like just slam the door in your dick kind of ending,
- 34:20Speaker 4: as all great horror movies should be. And then there's
- 34:25Speaker 4: another series. I'm waiting for the last issue, but it's
- 34:27Speaker 4: from Boom Studios. It's called The Approach. And this one
- 34:31Speaker 4: I've been highly recommending to people. This is basically the
- 34:33Speaker 4: thing in a small airport. Because basically you've got a small,
- 34:38Speaker 4: I think it's like Colorado. Basically some place that would
- 34:40Speaker 4: have a lot of snow. And so this is a
- 34:43Speaker 4: skeleton crew, tiny airport. They don't normally get big commercial
- 34:47Speaker 4: airliners in. But a commercial airliner has to land because
- 34:50Speaker 4: of the weather. Like these people are going to like
- 34:52Speaker 4: Panama or something like that and they're all. In swim trunks,
- 34:55Speaker 4: ready to go to the sun, and like, ah, you
- 34:57Speaker 4: gotta go outside in the snow and hang out in
- 34:58Speaker 4: this airport for a little bit. Well, as they're deplaning everybody,
- 35:02Speaker 4: a second plane lands. And it's a small charter plane,
- 35:05Speaker 4: like a little single-edged Cessna sort of thing like that.
- 35:08Speaker 4: There's a single passenger aboard, and as soon as he
- 35:10Speaker 4: crash lands, things aren't quite right with this fella. And
- 35:16Speaker 4: so basically... What starts from there is basically people getting
- 35:20Speaker 4: eaten one by one. The third issue is the greatest
- 35:24Speaker 4: because it's the part of the movie where the body
- 35:27Speaker 4: count is the highest. It's the assholes and elbows, kind
- 35:29Speaker 4: of like everybody's getting chased. But there's a big showdown
- 35:33Speaker 4: kind of thing like that. Fourth issue is a big
- 35:35Speaker 4: cliffhanger with the main character. So it's such a fun comic.
- 35:39Speaker 4: I'm like, I hope this gets turned into a movie.
- 35:42Speaker 4: But yeah, it's called The Approach. It's a five-issue series. uh,
- 35:46Speaker 4: issue five at this point has not come out yet,
- 35:48Speaker 4: but it's coming out, I think in a couple of weeks.
- 35:50Speaker 6: So now I'm trying to, that, that just reminded me
- 35:54Speaker 6: of when I watched, I think.
- 35:55Speaker 4: It was right around the beginning of the year. Um,
- 35:59Speaker 4: no exit. Have you seen no exit?
- 36:02Speaker 6: It just reminded me because it is like, it's also
- 36:05Speaker 6: kind of maybe more, um, Tarantino, the thing.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Okay. What's his version of it? Um, The thing?
- 36:17Speaker 6: Hateful Eight.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Oh!
- 36:18Speaker 6: It's way more Hateful Eight because it's here's a very
- 36:22Speaker 6: isolated situation made that way by snow. So it's like
- 36:27Speaker 6: a girl that gets out of an institution essentially. She's
- 36:30Speaker 6: basically getting there for drugs or alcohol or whatever and
- 36:35Speaker 6: is trying to get to her mom who's sick in
- 36:37Speaker 6: the hospital so she essentially escapes. And then they get
- 36:40Speaker 6: to this rest stop and they're snowed in. And she
- 36:44Speaker 6: gets there and is like stuck with this like five
- 36:46Speaker 6: people or so.
- 36:47Speaker 4: Okay.
- 36:47Speaker 6: And then she walks outside to like see if she
- 36:50Speaker 6: can get bars on her phone or something. And she
- 36:52Speaker 6: gets to this van and there's a girl tied up
- 36:55Speaker 6: in the back of like a little girl tied up
- 36:57Speaker 6: in the back of the van.
- 36:58Speaker 1: Oh.
- 36:59Speaker 6: And she's like, okay, some, and she, it's locked. So
- 37:02Speaker 6: she can't even get in there to let her free.
- 37:04Speaker 6: So she's like, now not only do I want to
- 37:06Speaker 6: find a way to save this girl, but I have
- 37:08Speaker 6: to figure out who I'm trapped in here with. is
- 37:12Speaker 6: a kidnapper that's taking off with this young girl. That's cool.
- 37:16Speaker 6: It's an interesting scenario. Yeah, I liked the setup because, again,
- 37:21Speaker 6: it's very Thing. It's very Hateful Eight. So it's trying
- 37:24Speaker 6: to figure out the whodunit in the middle of a
- 37:28Speaker 6: snowstorm where everybody's locked in.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Okay, okay. Yeah, that just reminded me. Yeah, it's not bad.
- 37:33Speaker 4: I enjoyed it. I'll have to check that out. Yeah,
- 37:35Speaker 4: currently streaming on Hulu.
- 37:36Speaker 6: Yeah, I think that's how I got to it. I
- 37:39Speaker 6: already had it from the last round of only murders
- 37:42Speaker 6: in the building. I'm still keep finding things of like,
- 37:45Speaker 6: am I going to keep this till next time?
- 37:47Speaker 4: And then now I've watched so many things along the way.
- 37:49Speaker 6: I'm like, all right, I guess I'm just riding it
- 37:51Speaker 6: out till the next one.
- 37:52Speaker 4: And another movie, of course, it's kind of just, it
- 37:56Speaker 4: seems in the same theme, Identity came out like, what
- 37:59Speaker 4: was it, mid-2000s? Yeah. With John Cusack and a bunch
- 38:02Speaker 4: of the people in it where it's like they're all...
- 38:03Speaker 4: The little motels set up. They're all reigned in the
- 38:05Speaker 4: motel and there's a nice big twist at the end with,
- 38:09Speaker 4: you know.
- 38:09Speaker 6: I haven't re-watched that. It's one of those I keep...
- 38:12Speaker 6: I think of it semi-regularly. I think it was pretty
- 38:15Speaker 6: well done. I watched it a couple of years... A
- 38:18Speaker 6: little bit like About a year or so ago. And yeah,
- 38:20Speaker 6: it still holds up still good. I feel like at
- 38:22Speaker 6: the time I thought the movie was better than the twist. Like,
- 38:26Speaker 6: I feel like the whole lead up was so good
- 38:28Speaker 6: that I was like, oh, okay, whatever. Like, I'm just like,
- 38:31Speaker 6: it's fine. But I'm like, I think I enjoyed the
- 38:33Speaker 6: movie as a whole better than the gimmickness of what
- 38:37Speaker 6: it ends up being.
- 38:38Speaker 4: I would agree. Yeah. The performances and the lead up
- 38:41Speaker 4: and the suspense because you're basically, it's like, oh, people
- 38:43Speaker 4: are getting murdered. Yeah. Who's the murderer? And yeah, sort
- 38:45Speaker 4: of thing like that. And then there's a bigger twist
- 38:47Speaker 4: kind of. encompassing the whole thing, and you're like, oh, okay.
- 38:51Speaker 6: I guess, yeah. I was like, it doesn't ruin the
- 38:54Speaker 6: movie for me, but I enjoyed it more when it
- 38:57Speaker 6: was doing what it was doing in the beginning versus
- 38:59Speaker 6: where it ends.
- 39:00Speaker 4: Yeah, I would agree. But it's still pretty solid. Again,
- 39:02Speaker 4: good performances.
- 39:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:04Speaker 4: So yeah, so there you go. A bunch of different
- 39:05Speaker 4: stuff to watch, folks.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go. Snow yourself in and watch several
- 39:10Speaker 6: of these movies.
- 39:11Speaker 4: There you go, yeah.
- 39:13Speaker 6: All right, I guess we will get into it. Yep.
- 39:17Speaker 8: Get more out of life. Go out to a movie.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Out of town. Out of town. Out of the night.
- 39:28Speaker 2: Out of town.
- 39:33Speaker 8: You're an interesting man, Scott Lang. You're an Avenger. You
- 39:44Speaker 8: have a daughter. But you've lost a lot of time,
- 39:49Speaker 8: like me. We can help each other with that.
- 39:54Speaker 6: Who are you?
- 40:04Speaker 8: I'm the man who can give you the one thing
- 40:07Speaker 8: you want. What's that? Time.
- 40:12Speaker 2: I can rewrite existence.
- 40:21Speaker 8: And shatter timelines.
- 40:25Speaker 6: You cannot trust him. I don't care who this guy is.
- 40:29Speaker 1: I just lost so much.
- 40:33Speaker 6: He can give us a second chance.
- 40:45Speaker 4: Let me make this easy for you.
- 40:49Speaker 8: You will bring me what I need. or everything you
- 40:53Speaker 8: call life will end.
- 40:55Speaker 7: This is all my fault.
- 41:08Speaker 8: You may not want her to watch this.
- 41:10Speaker 5: We had a deal.
- 41:21Speaker 8: You thought you could win.
- 41:23Speaker 6: I don't have to win. We both just have to lose.
- 41:32Speaker 7: I'm sorry, Cassie.
- 41:50Speaker 2: What I'm saying here, looking at you, I don't see.
- 41:57Speaker 2: I'm looking straight through the suicide. When you're young, to
- 42:03Speaker 2: be told, you're the first I want. Like a chip box,
- 42:07Speaker 2: I do some flavor. Yeah, yeah, that music's plastic. It's dirty,
- 42:12Speaker 2: so try another flavor. I do some flavor. I do
- 42:16Speaker 2: some flavor. I do some flavor.
- 42:25Speaker 6: This super series out on the town feature is Ant-Man
- 42:29Speaker 6: and the Wasp Quantamania.
- 42:32Speaker 4: In Quantamania.
- 42:34Speaker 6: Going to Snowdin, Quantamania.
- 42:38Speaker 4: Not quite Snowdin. It's Cerebral Snow. And as we see
- 42:43Speaker 4: from the credits, we know you can't spell Quantamania without Ant-Man.
- 42:47Speaker 6: I see what they did. So, the year is 2023.
- 42:54Speaker 6: The director is Peyton Reed, once again. And they plot,
- 42:58Speaker 6: according to IMDb, Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyke, along
- 43:03Speaker 6: with Hank Pym, and why do we need the whole
- 43:04Speaker 6: roll call?
- 43:05Speaker 8: Jesus.
- 43:06Speaker 6: Explore the quantum realm where they interact with strange creatures
- 43:10Speaker 6: and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits
- 43:13Speaker 6: of what they thought was possible. Boom, boom, boom. Spoiler alert,
- 43:18Speaker 6: we're gonna ruin the hell out of this, so... Hopefully,
- 43:21Speaker 6: you've already gone to the theater and seen it yourself.
- 43:24Speaker 4: If not, go do.
- 43:26Speaker 6: That right now.
- 43:26Speaker 4: I've gone twice already. I saw it opening night and
- 43:31Speaker 4: then I took my wife for a matinee today. So
- 43:34Speaker 4: opening weekend, I gave them some money twice.
- 43:37Speaker 6: I'm sure they appreciate it. The theater system is not
- 43:41Speaker 6: what it used to be.
- 43:42Speaker 7: It is not.
- 43:43Speaker 6: I do kind of wonder where... That's a weird thing
- 43:45Speaker 6: we could have gone into at the opening of the show.
- 43:48Speaker 6: That some theaters now, we won't name names... Are going
- 43:51Speaker 6: to start charging more for the good seats. That's a
- 43:54Speaker 6: whole little, if you're in movie world on the internet,
- 43:58Speaker 6: that's what everybody's having a hissy fit over and going
- 44:00Speaker 6: to complain about.
- 44:01Speaker 4: The question is though, what do they deem good seats?
- 44:03Speaker 4: Are we talking like center of the theater? I think center.
- 44:06Speaker 4: The perfect spot between the speakers?
- 44:07Speaker 6: So if you're like an aisle person, you're probably fine.
- 44:09Speaker 6: Because I doubt they're going to do more to sit
- 44:11Speaker 6: on the aisle because that's not. That's not really ideal placement-wise,
- 44:16Speaker 6: but convenience-wise, you don't have to climb over people. Sure.
- 44:20Speaker 4: I mean, you know, the middle's fine. I traditionally would
- 44:24Speaker 4: like to go to the middle, but also I'm a
- 44:26Speaker 4: big fan of the back. of the theater. And because
- 44:30Speaker 4: usually that's, I mean, not for illicit purposes.
- 44:34Speaker 6: No, I'm just, my knee-jerk reaction is to say fuck
- 44:36Speaker 6: the back row. That's for other reasons outside of.
- 44:40Speaker 4: You know. Yeah, but in recent years, especially with like,
- 44:43Speaker 4: you know, the lounge chairs that are in theaters now,
- 44:49Speaker 4: stuff like that, I like the back row because you
- 44:51Speaker 4: get a little more room and basically if people have
- 44:53Speaker 4: to cross in front of you, they don't have to
- 44:54Speaker 4: do that awkward, sorry, you know, because basically my feet
- 44:57Speaker 4: happen to stick out further than i'm a tall guy
- 45:01Speaker 4: well even if.
- 45:02Speaker 6: You're not there's not a lot of room in between
- 45:04Speaker 6: that is something i've realized re-entering into society again going
- 45:08Speaker 6: back to the theaters after the shutdown of the world
- 45:11Speaker 6: i don't remember it being such a thing beforehand but
- 45:15Speaker 6: now i guess i got so used to not being
- 45:16Speaker 6: around humans for two years straight that like now when
- 45:19Speaker 6: i go to like today i went to the theater
- 45:21Speaker 6: to see this movie and there was someone on both
- 45:24Speaker 6: sides of me and i'm just like I don't remember
- 45:26Speaker 6: being this weirded out by being boxed in by human beings.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:30Speaker 6: They were relatively well behaved. I was actually enjoying the
- 45:33Speaker 6: conversation of the guys on my left. Cause they were like,
- 45:37Speaker 6: they were kind of into movies and they were having
- 45:40Speaker 6: their own little conversation.
- 45:41Speaker 4: Oh, cool.
- 45:42Speaker 6: The other side, not as much.
- 45:44Speaker 4: And then see, you know, back in the day, I loved,
- 45:47Speaker 4: you know, hanging out with the cinephiles or whatnot. Or,
- 45:49Speaker 4: you know, if you're going to like a fan screening
- 45:52Speaker 4: or whatnot, like everybody there is, is a fan, you know,
- 45:55Speaker 4: you know your Marvel stuff or you know your Star
- 45:57Speaker 4: Wars stuff or Harry Potter or whatever the thing happens
- 45:59Speaker 4: to be. You know, if it's a fan screening, those
- 46:02Speaker 4: are the best because everybody's there for the movie. You're
- 46:05Speaker 4: there to celebrate the movie, especially if it's an older movie.
- 46:09Speaker 4: We've already seen it before. So there's a lot of cheering.
- 46:12Speaker 4: There's a lot of this and that. So it makes
- 46:14Speaker 4: a lot of fun. It depends on the movie, I think, too.
- 46:17Speaker 6: I mean, I still really like the theatrical experience as
- 46:21Speaker 6: a whole. I love the... Aesthetics of a theater in general.
- 46:25Speaker 6: And then on top of that, watching it with an
- 46:27Speaker 6: audience is a different thing.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Sure.
- 46:29Speaker 6: I remember, not as much with recent ones, but when
- 46:34Speaker 6: we're talking in the Marvel world, we're talking the Endgame.
- 46:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:39Speaker 6: I mean, there were... applause moments in the theater you
- 46:44Speaker 6: know it's like you don't crying moments you don't yeah
- 46:46Speaker 6: definitely crying but i mean you don't get applause in
- 46:49Speaker 6: theaters anymore like it's not a normal thing so when
- 46:52Speaker 6: you get that kind of like into the movie same
- 46:55Speaker 6: thing with horror horror is always kind of fun i
- 46:57Speaker 6: do remember really enjoying the the scream now that it's
- 47:01Speaker 6: come full circle we're about to do that again but
- 47:03Speaker 6: yeah the scream experience last year was really fun because
- 47:06Speaker 6: people were into it and like getting super freaked out
- 47:10Speaker 6: about things. So I remember that, but I don't know,
- 47:13Speaker 6: for the most part, it's hard to readjust to sitting
- 47:16Speaker 6: in a room with these people.
- 47:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 47:18Speaker 4: It kind of, uh, one lost genre or standup comedy films.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Cause those used to be quite frequent.
- 47:24Speaker 6: It's not. Well, that's cause I mean, everybody gets a
- 47:28Speaker 6: Netflix show.
- 47:28Speaker 4: Yeah. So like, it's just not a reason for streaming
- 47:31Speaker 4: and cable. So I got, but it used to be like, especially,
- 47:34Speaker 4: you know, even in the eighties and nineties, uh, stand-up
- 47:36Speaker 4: comedy films were quite frequent. And I loved going to
- 47:40Speaker 4: those because it's basically like going to see the person
- 47:43Speaker 4: live anyway. But way cheaper.
- 47:45Speaker 6: Yeah, but cheaper.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you saw Eddie Murphy for about probably $ 50 less than.
- 47:51Speaker 6: You would have.
- 47:53Speaker 4: At least. Or the Kings of Comedy or whatever else.
- 47:55Speaker 4: But yeah, going to see a stand-up movie with a
- 47:59Speaker 4: full audience is a lot of fun. That's a different thing.
- 48:03Speaker 6: Yeah, you probably won't get much these days. No.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Now, I mean, of course, nowadays they have, like, the
- 48:08Speaker 4: events they do or, like, you know, for, you know,
- 48:12Speaker 4: they'll sometimes do, like, sporting events or concerts or something
- 48:15Speaker 4: like that at movie theaters. You know, they'll, like, you know,
- 48:17Speaker 4: stream it in or whatever else. Or, like, you know,
- 48:20Speaker 4: the one-off, you know, Japanese anime movie or Godzilla movie
- 48:23Speaker 4: where they show it only one time. Yeah. And it's
- 48:25Speaker 4: an event thing there. So they do a lot of
- 48:27Speaker 4: that stuff. So that's kind of the newer aspect of
- 48:31Speaker 4: that now because that's a ready-made audience. Like, that's a
- 48:33Speaker 4: specific event. You're going there for that. And there may
- 48:37Speaker 4: be cheering involved.
- 48:38Speaker 6: It's more interesting now because they keep... Again, I only
- 48:42Speaker 6: say I don't go to things that would enlighten me
- 48:45Speaker 6: or broaden my mind. So when you see the commercials
- 48:49Speaker 6: beforehand of when.
- 48:50Speaker 4: They do ballet that is being... beamed into.
- 48:53Speaker 6: The theater and you're watching it essentially live or if
- 48:56Speaker 6: not a really well done or a musical or something
- 48:58Speaker 6: yeah and then yeah today they ran a promo for
- 49:02Speaker 6: uh tons of like plays that they're doing that are
- 49:04Speaker 6: like full-on productions only you can go watch it at
- 49:07Speaker 6: your movie theater and i'm like that's cool that that's
- 49:10Speaker 6: an option now yeah i'm probably not going to.
- 49:12Speaker 4: But yeah i like that it's a thing that people
- 49:14Speaker 4: can do so you know and it's got everything to
- 49:17Speaker 4: do with the fact that basically you know movie theaters
- 49:19Speaker 4: switching over to digital so there's no film anymore yeah
- 49:22Speaker 4: um and that they're desperate for anything to bring money
- 49:25Speaker 4: reason to come to the theater please do yeah e-town's
- 49:29Speaker 4: had a little bit of a whether this is a
- 49:31Speaker 4: good thing or a bad thing but basically uh the
- 49:33Speaker 4: area used to have three movie theaters now we have
- 49:35Speaker 4: one yeah but the two movie theaters that closed down
- 49:38Speaker 4: were family-owned They were, you know, there's some people that
- 49:42Speaker 4: have a lot of nostalgia to them. I don't share
- 49:44Speaker 4: that nostalgia. I like my modern amenities in a theater.
- 49:48Speaker 4: I like the theater to be clean. I like to
- 49:51Speaker 4: be a nice place. I mean, I don't mind an
- 49:53Speaker 4: old theater, but mop the damn floor, you know?
- 49:56Speaker 6: And you didn't realize, like, again, I went to a
- 49:59Speaker 6: handful of the old school theaters growing up, and, like,
- 50:02Speaker 6: you didn't realize what you were missing before stadium seating
- 50:07Speaker 6: came along, and, like, So the handful of times I
- 50:10Speaker 6: would go to the one that is now closed that
- 50:12Speaker 6: still had old time seating, I was like, oh, this
- 50:15Speaker 6: is why we got rid of this. Now I realize
- 50:18Speaker 6: because I can't see the screen half the time because
- 50:20Speaker 6: there's some weirdo right in front of you. And like
- 50:22Speaker 6: it just like this is why we changed that. And
- 50:25Speaker 6: like that's technically better. You know, I enjoy this shit.
- 50:30Speaker 6: The screening better when I can see and not have
- 50:33Speaker 6: to worry about people.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 50:34Speaker 6: So, yeah, I mean, there's reasons, but I still miss
- 50:37Speaker 6: the old ones.
- 50:37Speaker 4: Yeah, so it kind of makes you miss the old Vogue,
- 50:39Speaker 4: doesn't it? Yeah. And your cavernous one theater. I mean,
- 50:42Speaker 4: that's the thing. It's like, if you want to sit
- 50:43Speaker 4: in the front row of the Vogue theater, you were
- 50:46Speaker 4: prepared for a walk. Because that's a... It was huge.
- 50:49Speaker 4: It was a big house.
- 50:51Speaker 6: Well, that was... And that was a long trek down.
- 50:53Speaker 6: And that was the reason I said, fuck the background.
- 50:57Speaker 6: Of my many nights at the Vogue at midnight, where
- 51:00Speaker 6: that's a thing you say at least once a session.
- 51:03Speaker 4: That's right.
- 51:05Speaker 6: But yeah, it's a different world today.
- 51:08Speaker 4: It is.
- 51:10Speaker 6: Where would you like to begin on this one?
- 51:13Speaker 4: Well, this is our setup, I guess, for the next
- 51:17Speaker 4: phase for Marvel here. Because we had kind of our
- 51:21Speaker 4: rebuilding phase with Phase 4. We had to introduce a
- 51:23Speaker 4: whole bunch.
- 51:23Speaker 6: Of new characters.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Kind of some new teams, a new status, because basically
- 51:27Speaker 4: Endgame basically changed everything. Yeah. And even in this movie,
- 51:31Speaker 4: there's a couple of references that, you know, basically like,
- 51:34Speaker 4: you know, we're still dealing with a lot of homelessness
- 51:36Speaker 4: of people who got blipped out for five years and
- 51:39Speaker 4: came back.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:40Speaker 4: You know, somebody's living in their house or somebody's married
- 51:42Speaker 4: to their wife or husband.
- 51:43Speaker 6: Guess what? They replaced you on your job because you
- 51:45Speaker 6: were gone for five years.
- 51:47Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, so it shook the world, you know,
- 51:51Speaker 4: and its effects we're seeing, you know, several years down
- 51:53Speaker 4: the road.
- 51:53Speaker 6: That's maybe the thing I like best out of this
- 51:57Speaker 6: post-in-game world is, like, it's minor. I think that's why
- 52:01Speaker 6: it's so impressive is, like, Starting with that second Spider-Man movie,
- 52:05Speaker 6: we go through each time we have a new either
- 52:08Speaker 6: show or movie, we have an extra little snippet, just
- 52:12Speaker 6: a little mention here and there. Or you might see something,
- 52:15Speaker 6: you know, maybe a little more big and crazy. But
- 52:18Speaker 6: there's a lot of world building that goes on in
- 52:20Speaker 6: the background. And it's like that stuff I appreciate that
- 52:24Speaker 6: they are bothering to put that much. Because, again, if
- 52:27Speaker 6: you're going to make this the huge undertaking that it
- 52:30Speaker 6: is to put all these movies together... you don't want
- 52:33Speaker 6: to just one off them and have them not have
- 52:35Speaker 6: anything to do with each other. Whereas they have put
- 52:38Speaker 6: so much time and effort into this world building that
- 52:41Speaker 6: literally like these little mentions here and there just continues
- 52:45Speaker 6: to build this universe that.
- 52:47Speaker 4: They put together.
- 52:48Speaker 6: It's that, that's the stuff that I am kind of
- 52:50Speaker 6: like attached to from one to the other. Sometimes I
- 52:53Speaker 6: look back and I'm like, eh, I don't like that
- 52:55Speaker 6: movie as much, but I think I'm a little things
- 52:57Speaker 6: with all of them and it.
- 52:58Speaker 4: Makes a more impressive sort of overall system.
- 53:01Speaker 6: Sure.
- 53:01Speaker 4: And that, that's, That's Marvel. That's basically how they've been
- 53:05Speaker 4: since the word go. There's so much world building, certain
- 53:09Speaker 4: events or people being introduced in throwaway books or issues
- 53:14Speaker 4: or things nobody cares about, stuff like that. But suddenly
- 53:18Speaker 4: that person becomes important later. So we're seeing so much
- 53:21Speaker 4: of that. So now we've kind of gone past the
- 53:23Speaker 4: rebuilding things. Now Ant-Mans are like, okay, now we're getting
- 53:27Speaker 4: some serious. We're starting to establish... Our new threat here.
- 53:31Speaker 4: Our new Thanos-level threat, and the man's name is Kang.
- 53:35Speaker 6: And not to jump ahead, but if anybody... That has
- 53:40Speaker 6: been kind of the make or break with so many
- 53:42Speaker 6: superhero movies on both sides of the fence there, Marvel
- 53:46Speaker 6: and DC.
- 53:46Speaker 4: But there's so many Marvels.
- 53:48Speaker 6: That there were a lot along the way that I'm like, well,
- 53:51Speaker 6: it's a little lacking in the villain department. But this one,
- 53:55Speaker 6: you get to this, and I'm like, it is.
- 53:57Speaker 4: Kind of hard to.
- 53:59Speaker 6: Especially when you're going to come up with a big
- 54:01Speaker 6: bad and you're coming after Thanos. It's like you've got
- 54:04Speaker 6: a lot to live up to.
- 54:06Speaker 4: He did a hell of a job.
- 54:08Speaker 6: It is one of those I was concerned going in,
- 54:10Speaker 6: even after seeing Loki wrap up.
- 54:13Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, alright, we'll see. This will be interesting,
- 54:16Speaker 4: but I don't know.
- 54:17Speaker 6: He's got an uphill battle. And then you get to
- 54:19Speaker 6: this movie and I'm like, no, he delivers. He is definitely...
- 54:24Speaker 6: commands the screen when he's on there even in the
- 54:27Speaker 6: quieter moments yeah he is always kind of threatening even
- 54:30Speaker 6: when he's not attempting to be threatening and by the
- 54:33Speaker 6: time he just gets pissed by the end you're just
- 54:36Speaker 6: like oh no he's a threat like he is a
- 54:38Speaker 6: legit threat.
- 54:39Speaker 4: So that's the thing that's so fascinating about the character
- 54:42Speaker 4: of Kang anyway and they really did a good job
- 54:45Speaker 4: of encompassing this in the movie is that this is
- 54:47Speaker 4: a man of hundreds of facets you know you never
- 54:51Speaker 4: know which Kang you're technically dealing with because there are
- 54:55Speaker 4: so many variants so many different stages of his life
- 54:59Speaker 4: because you know being a traveler being a conqueror he
- 55:03Speaker 4: has we don't know exactly how old he is no
- 55:07Speaker 4: we know originally he is from the future he's from
- 55:10Speaker 4: like the 24th 25th century something like that and basically
- 55:14Speaker 4: kind of got into time travel was an explorer whatever
- 55:16Speaker 4: else and basically has gone back and then lived basically
- 55:20Speaker 4: from the back to the front sort of thing like
- 55:22Speaker 4: that but It's not a linear path. He goes here,
- 55:25Speaker 4: he goes there, and, you know, whatever else. So he
- 55:27Speaker 4: lives lifetimes in ancient Egypt. He lives lifetimes in the future.
- 55:31Speaker 4: He lives lifetimes in current, you know, things. He lives
- 55:35Speaker 4: lifetimes in timelines where there aren't people, you know, because
- 55:39Speaker 4: everything's gone. It's the end of things. You know, he's
- 55:43Speaker 4: all over the place, but the younger versions of Kang
- 55:48Speaker 4: are the far more dangerous ones. And so that's what
- 55:51Speaker 4: we've got in this case here. We've got a younger
- 55:53Speaker 4: Kang and he is, you know, sometimes he comes off
- 55:57Speaker 4: as a nice guy. He seems like he's kind of
- 55:59Speaker 4: warm and friendly. But then there's little turns in his
- 56:02Speaker 4: performance where it's like, oh shit, he's about to like
- 56:05Speaker 4: go ham on us here. He's a hell of an actor.
- 56:09Speaker 6: So it is interesting to see, you know, somebody that
- 56:14Speaker 6: not only is good at it, but they're kind of giving.
- 56:16Speaker 4: Him something to play with here.
- 56:17Speaker 6: He's got.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Both ends of it.
- 56:20Speaker 6: Like we see him be calm and just having a
- 56:23Speaker 6: conversation with Michelle Pfeiffer. And then a few scenes later,
- 56:26Speaker 6: he's just full on Rocky three going to town with,
- 56:31Speaker 6: with Batman. So he can do both just fine.
- 56:34Speaker 4: So, and then, you know, there's other times where he's
- 56:36Speaker 4: basically playing the threatening Uber villain sort of role and having,
- 56:40Speaker 4: you know, your, your exposition or your threats and stuff
- 56:44Speaker 4: like that. And even then, like it still comes off. Yeah.
- 56:47Speaker 4: That's the, you know, Kang is a very, hoity-toity kind
- 56:50Speaker 4: of character yeah so he but.
- 56:53Speaker 6: Not overly so like it could be taken too far
- 56:56Speaker 6: i don't think he's just very he seems you know
- 56:59Speaker 6: intelligent and well-spoken and like he seems like he has
- 57:02Speaker 6: lived lifetimes at this point but he's not like over
- 57:05Speaker 6: the top about it he's just there is an air
- 57:08Speaker 6: of like i'm obviously better than you. Like, by the time, like,
- 57:14Speaker 6: it all kind of comes out, you definitely get that, yeah,
- 57:16Speaker 6: I've done all of this before, so you idiots that
- 57:20Speaker 6: don't know what you're doing just need to listen to
- 57:22Speaker 6: what I'm here to tell you.
- 57:24Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. But, I mean, the funny thing is, like,
- 57:27Speaker 4: there's still, like, elements of his you know, hubris on display.
- 57:31Speaker 4: You know, there's paintings of him. There's murals on walls.
- 57:35Speaker 4: You know, he wants to make a big speech. So
- 57:37Speaker 4: there's this giant video hologram of him making a speech
- 57:41Speaker 4: to the whole fucking quantum realm. You know, sort of
- 57:44Speaker 4: shit like that. So there's still those elements of, you know,
- 57:47Speaker 4: like where he just, I'm top, you know, top dog here.
- 57:51Speaker 4: Y'all know it. I'm going to keep displaying that every
- 57:54Speaker 4: time I can just to reinforce that I'm in charge.
- 57:57Speaker 4: It's very Cobra Commander. Oh, very much. Very much. To
- 58:01Speaker 4: reference another comic. Yeah.
- 58:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:05Speaker 4: But a lot of fun things. Michelle Pfeiffer gets herself
- 58:11Speaker 4: several big moments.
- 58:13Speaker 6: And that's by the end of this. That was so
- 58:15Speaker 6: my takeaway. It was like, I mean, don't get me wrong.
- 58:18Speaker 6: I'm enjoying the rest of this. But can we just
- 58:20Speaker 6: watch Michelle Pfeiffer kick people's ass for a good amount
- 58:23Speaker 6: of time?
- 58:24Speaker 4: Because that ending there.
- 58:25Speaker 6: where she gets the gun and starts just kicking people's ass.
- 58:28Speaker 6: I'm just like, you know, I could watch this for
- 58:30Speaker 6: a whole movie. Can we, can we just give her
- 58:32Speaker 6: an action franchise at this point?
- 58:34Speaker 4: The thing is, it was kind of, you know, to me,
- 58:36Speaker 4: it was kind of unfortunate. It's like, okay, you know,
- 58:38Speaker 4: I know this character, you know, of Janet Van Dyne.
- 58:41Speaker 4: And it's like, you know, she's, you know, she's evolved
- 58:46Speaker 4: so much over the years, you know, when she was
- 58:48Speaker 4: originally created in the sixties, she was kind of, you know,
- 58:51Speaker 4: a bit of a bubble headed ditz, you know, it's like,
- 58:54Speaker 4: It was the 60s and she was a woman, so
- 58:56Speaker 4: that's not a shock. Well, basically, she was a bubble-headed ditz,
- 59:00Speaker 4: but she also was very capable of doing stuff. But
- 59:02Speaker 4: then also, she was almost kind of like the Kelly
- 59:07Speaker 4: Kapoor of the Avengers. Because she was fascinated with fashion
- 59:13Speaker 4: and high lifestyle and.
- 59:17Speaker 4: You know, stuff like that. You know, and the superheroing, okay, well,
- 59:21Speaker 4: that was kind of, that was a fun thing my
- 59:23Speaker 4: hubby likes to do and I'll tag along. It's kind
- 59:25Speaker 4: of fun. But then, like, by the 80s, she's leading
- 59:27Speaker 4: the team.
- 59:28Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 59:28Speaker 4: So, I mean, it's like, she had such a, just
- 59:30Speaker 4: transition over the years of finally becoming a badass. So,
- 59:34Speaker 4: it's kind of getting to see who she really was,
- 59:37Speaker 4: you know, her time in the realm and stuff like that.
- 59:39Speaker 4: And seeing her really kind of bust out some action stuff,
- 59:41Speaker 4: I was like, thank you.
- 59:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 59:42Speaker 4: That was cool. Yeah. So, it only took three movies
- 59:45Speaker 4: for her to do that.
- 59:46Speaker 6: Well, yeah, I mean, she's, almost non-existent in the first one.
- 59:50Speaker 6: The second one, she's gone most of, and we just
- 59:52Speaker 6: were looking for her, but we don't get to her.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Until it's almost done.
- 59:56Speaker 6: So, yeah, it's kind of nice that at least this one,
- 59:59Speaker 6: she gets a full-on role that she can be in
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: the whole movie and have things to do, actually.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: But another thing, this is a unique series because this
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: is the only one of any of the Marvel movies.
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: We've had the same director for three movies.
- 1:00:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, without Sony... Because Spider-Man did too, but.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: It's not full-on Marvel. But yeah, it's sort of canon now,
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: but it's sideways canon.
- 1:00:26Speaker 6: I am annoyed because I can't watch it streaming right now.
- 1:00:29Speaker 6: Because I'd like to revisit that third one. Yeah, I can. Why?
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: It's not on Disney Plus. No, but why would you
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: want to revisit the third one?
- 1:00:36Speaker 6: I like the third one.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: The one we just watched last year? No, no, no, no, no.
- 1:00:41Speaker 6: Okay, not that one.
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: I was talking about those. Oh, I was talking about
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man 3.
- 1:00:45Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: I was talking about the... Oh.
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: Ones we just had.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, the Tom Holland. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay,
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: that one's good, yeah. But again, side universe, sort of. Okay, no,
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: that's canon. That stuff is. The Tom Holland.
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: That makes more sense now.
- 1:01:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:01:01Speaker 6: I was like, wait.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: Yeah, the Tom Holland Spider-Man, that's into you. That one
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: was good.
- 1:01:04Speaker 6: What are you talking about?
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: Yeah, we're good.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: No.
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:01:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you were talking about. The dance number movie.
- 1:01:09Speaker 6: No.
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you were talking about the Tobey Maguire
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: Spider-Man 3. It's like, why would you.
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: No, one, two, yes, definitely.
- 1:01:14Speaker 4: Three, not so much.
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:17Speaker 4: Even though it's really weird. They brought Thomas Hayden Church back.
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: We want to remind ourselves that Spider-Man 3 still exists?
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: I think at those points it's just like, no, we
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: have to at least acknowledge it. We almost need to
- 1:01:29Speaker 6: make good on it. It's the same way in Star
- 1:01:32Speaker 6: Wars where now they'll make reference to stuff from the prequels.
- 1:01:35Speaker 6: They're like, look, we know you guys don't love them,
- 1:01:38Speaker 6: but we're knee deep in it, man. We got to
- 1:01:40Speaker 6: at least lean in enough to acknowledge them, but let's
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: not stay there for too long. Same thing.
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: We're not going to bring back.
- 1:01:47Speaker 6: Any of the other characters, but that guy from Wings
- 1:01:50Speaker 6: was fine. We'll bring him back in.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Yeah, it's that same move. But, yeah, but so it's,
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: but like I said, this is kind of unique because since, okay,
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: we start from Iron Man 1. Yeah. Then this is
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: the first, basically, of the heroes, basically he has the
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: same director for all three of his movies so far. And,
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: you know, Peyton Reed did a lot of stuff, you know,
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: kind of like putting in little Easter eggs here and there.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Like he teased the Quantum Realm. you know, quite a
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: bit and seen a little bit of there. Even in
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: the first Ant-Man where that brief time you're in the
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: quantum realm and you see like a city on the
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: hills or something like that. While we weren't, we didn't
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: know that was going to be Kang, we referenced that
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: there's people in the quantum realm. So, you know, that there's,
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: there's other stuff in there. There's things to explore. So finally,
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: this third film, we get to do that. And that
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: was a lot of fun.
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: It's just, Since we're talking about the director, I will
- 1:02:42Speaker 6: say it is interesting that it is our same guy
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: because it feels very different. Even in the last two,
- 1:02:49Speaker 6: like last time. I feel like two felt.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Similar to the first one.
- 1:02:53Speaker 6: I feel like it was a little better, maybe because
- 1:02:55Speaker 6: the situation wasn't as messed up as the coming in
- 1:02:58Speaker 6: on the first one. Two was all his project, and
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: I think it's a stronger film because of it. But
- 1:03:04Speaker 6: you get to this one, and I'm like, it is...
- 1:03:07Speaker 6: Not so much dark, but it definitely is not the
- 1:03:10Speaker 6: comedic presence that 1.
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: And 2 just.
- 1:03:13Speaker 6: Because they almost set out to be a comedy more.
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: That first one is trying to be a comedy more
- 1:03:19Speaker 6: than a superhero movie. It's good at being a superhero movie,
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: but it's leaning towards the comedy more. And the second
- 1:03:26Speaker 6: one gets a little bigger and adds a lot more
- 1:03:28Speaker 6: superhero into it, but still... you know, it's a, it's
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: an Ant-Man movie because it's way more of a lighter
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: tone and just sort of a fun way of dealing
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: with things. But like this one doesn't.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: Feel that way.
- 1:03:39Speaker 6: Like this one, because it's so in its own little
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: world from the get-go, like it's a much darker tone
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: to it. And then in general, I feel like there's
- 1:03:50Speaker 6: not the jokes that, you know, and I don't, mean
- 1:03:52Speaker 6: that in a bad way like I don't think it
- 1:03:54Speaker 6: would have been fitting it might have been forcing it
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: too much so there's moments here and there there's some
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: fun stuff along the way but it's not that tone
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: that we got in the first two so it's kind
- 1:04:03Speaker 6: of surprising that it is the same director but.
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: Yeah I would agree because you know I mean definitely
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: the stakes are higher in this film because of the
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: introduction of our big bad yeah we got like I
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: said we you know again we got to tease the
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: season finale for Loki but this is kind of like
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: this is our proper introduction of Kang for this film So,
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: kind of like Ragnarok, they do a good job of
- 1:04:25Speaker 4: balancing the serious and the comedy. Because there are still
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: tons of laughs in this movie. Oh, yeah. I mean,
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: like I said, I've been in the audience twice for
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: this thing, and there are laughs in this movie. There
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: definitely are. That get the people going. And some are...
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: On purpose. Some are a little bit accidental. We'll get
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: into one particular character. Yeah. There's one that, I mean,
- 1:04:45Speaker 4: you can't take it seriously. So it has.
- 1:04:47Speaker 6: He needs to be the laugh moment because you can't
- 1:04:50Speaker 6: do anything else with him, really.
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: And it's very interesting how that was handled, too. Because
- 1:04:55Speaker 4: fans were kind of... You know, let's just stop tapping
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: into that. Let's talk about MODOK.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: Let's talk about.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: Because.
- 1:05:01Speaker 6: I've seen him for years and I thought, man, that's
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: silly looking.
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:05:05Speaker 6: So if you were going to tell me we're going
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: to make a actual real world three dimensional version of
- 1:05:09Speaker 6: this guy, I'm like, how the hell am I going
- 1:05:12Speaker 6: to take that seriously? Luckily you kind of don't have to.
- 1:05:15Speaker 4: It's a great payoff because I mean, you know, they'd
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: shown images in the trailer and some of the toys.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: So we knew MODOK was coming. They were doing a
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: little bit of a tweak with him and they're like, Oh,
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: he's kind of like a metal face. And it's like,
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: it's kind of looks more like a robot. It's not
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: like a, you know, basically a giant head with normal
- 1:05:34Speaker 4: size arms and legs sitting in a floating chair sort
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: of thing. And then you're like, oh, no, it is.
- 1:05:40Speaker 4: It still is. So anybody who was worried about how
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: MODOK was going to be treated, while it's not the
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: original character, it's MODOK.
- 1:05:49Speaker 6: It is fun. Again, it's maybe the only like through
- 1:05:54Speaker 6: line of light tone stuff. Because even when He's trying
- 1:05:58Speaker 6: to be serious. Nobody can take him seriously. Just not
- 1:06:01Speaker 6: only the visuals, which were always there, even in the comic,
- 1:06:04Speaker 6: he looked like that. But because of who we have
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: as the character now, it just sort of changes the
- 1:06:11Speaker 6: tone quite a bit.
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: And again, it's fun. I do like it. Yeah. You
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: cannot take him seriously. What we're talking about, though, is
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: that basically, if you remember back in the first Ant-Man,
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: the character of Darren, our bad guy who takes the
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: yellow jacket suit.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: The bee guy.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: The bee guy. If you remember at the end of
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: the movie, he basically kind of gets, well, it looks
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: like he gets crushed, shrunk down, and shrunk completely away. Well,
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: what happened was he got deposited in the quantum realm.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: But because of where basically the Pym Tech landed on him,
- 1:06:43Speaker 4: it shrunk the rest of his body while it shrunk
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: his head somewhat, but it was disproportionate. So he was
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: already a mess anyway. He was more head than anything else.
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: And then Kang gets a hold of him and, you know,
- 1:06:56Speaker 4: turns him, you know, makes him, you know, better, stronger, faster,
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:07:00Speaker 6: As much as you can when you're a giant head
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: and little tiny body.
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: And did you notice we still got a butt shot?
- 1:07:06Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: I feel like there was a.
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: For that half second that it happened, there was maybe
- 1:07:14Speaker 6: more than one place in the theater I gasped. Yeah.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: I don't know that it was a good one.
- 1:07:20Speaker 6: It was, oh, God.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I know.
- 1:07:22Speaker 4: I was like, this is a tiny little butt. I
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: was like, oh, that's great. I love that.
- 1:07:25Speaker 6: I don't think anyone was prepared for the butt shot.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: I love it. And see, the thing is, like, you know,
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: MODOK has always been, like, a serious villain when he
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: was initially created. It was basically... They introduced AIM a
- 1:07:38Speaker 4: little bit in Iron Man 3, but they repurposed it
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: or whatever else. So basically, in the comics, AIM is
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: like HYDRA, but it's all mad scientists. They all do
- 1:07:46Speaker 4: super science experiments, weird shit. They don't care how it
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: affects humanity. They're just curious about the data. And so
- 1:07:53Speaker 4: MODOK was one of their scientists. He was experimenting on himself,
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: making him like a cybernetic being, yada, yada, yada. And
- 1:08:01Speaker 4: the experiment went haywire and basically collapsed. made him a
- 1:08:05Speaker 4: giant head and a tiny body and he would have
- 1:08:07Speaker 4: to sit in this floating chair in order to move
- 1:08:09Speaker 4: around and do things. But then also he's got like
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: mental abilities and he's got the cybernetic stuff. So he basically,
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: it's somewhat worked, but he basically is completely deformed.
- 1:08:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: And so basically he's this giant face sitting in a
- 1:08:21Speaker 4: chair basically with little arms and legs.
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: Which again, I know they treated it seriously in the comics.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: But I always thought it was silly looking.
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: Well, they treated it seriously in the comic, but then
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: over the years, they've also agreed with you that it
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: is silly looking. And so, of course, there was the
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: Hulu cartoon that Patton Oswalt did the voice for. That's
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: entirely a comedy. And, I mean, that was hilarious. I
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: love that stuff. And so we get kind of a
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: little bit of both. Yeah. But Corey Stoll gets to
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: reprise his role, and his face is basically, like, stretched,
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: you know, very much over a giant head. It is
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: very silly. up you're like oh my fucking god hey
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: remember me yes and they even do like a little
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: bit like a quick montage yeah but i love to
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: like there's a couple of times where we're doing like
- 1:09:11Speaker 4: exposition stuff and then paul rudd interrupts that He just
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: totally steps on the hose and asks a stupid question.
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: Another thing I loved too is that David, of course,
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: we had the little buddies. He was Michael Pena, David S. Malvin,
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: and who's the rapper guy?
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: I can't remember. I don't remember now. But yeah.
- 1:09:37Speaker 6: But his, yeah, the three guys. The security team.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: Yeah. Of course, and Michael Pena was always the star
- 1:09:41Speaker 4: of the three of them because Luis, he would have
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: his stories. And just stole the movie every time he spoke.
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: So that was great. So you missed him. But we
- 1:09:49Speaker 4: didn't miss David S. Malkin because, well, it's not his character.
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: He gets to play the character of Veb, who's the
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: big lovable goo guy.
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: Yeah, I did see his name up there again.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: And it did remind me.
- 1:10:03Speaker 6: I was like, I think that's another thing that makes it.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: seem so different than those others. Because the other two,
- 1:10:08Speaker 6: they're pretty heavily featured. You know, they're not the leads,
- 1:10:11Speaker 6: but they've got a good amount of time on screen.
- 1:10:13Speaker 6: And I'm like, yeah, this one doesn't have any, like,
- 1:10:16Speaker 6: that is one of the weird things about this. The
- 1:10:19Speaker 6: structure of this movie is very different than even most
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Marvel movies at this point.
- 1:10:23Speaker 4: Like, we get right to it.
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: You know, you get the little flashback of like, hey,
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: what's been going on with me yet, man? And once
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: we're done with that, it's like, okay, let's hit the
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: quantum realm. Like, they do not mess around. Yeah, it
- 1:10:35Speaker 6: gets right to the point. It does.
- 1:10:36Speaker 4: Which, again, I like. Of course, I mean, I love
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: the book stuff, too. Because if you'd been watching the
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: last couple, like, movies and TV shows and whatnot... If
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: you watch the crawls, when they have a news story
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: that comes on there, if you watch the crawls, you've
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: been seeing that basically we know that Scott had a
- 1:10:53Speaker 4: book coming out. We know that he has a podcast
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: also out. I think the podcast came before the book.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: But yeah, so Scott has been doing this kind of
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: like victory lap of I saved the world for quite
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: some time. Because he really can't do anything else. He can't.
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: He's not been able to, like, have a real life.
- 1:11:13Speaker 6: He was on house arrest the last movie.
- 1:11:15Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:11:15Speaker 6: Like, he can't get a real job. So, like, the
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: only thing he has is, like, hey, guys, I'm an Avenger.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: You know that, right? But the funny thing is that
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: he basically avenged, like, the one time, and then he
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: really hasn't done anything since Endgame. And so that's kind
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: of what his, you know, Cassie's argument is basically, like,
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: What are you doing now?
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: It's like, I'm out doing stuff. You know, she's kind of,
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: you know, following in his footsteps, so to speak, being
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: in A little more social justice thrown in, too. But
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: she's out doing what he does, and she's like, why
- 1:11:45Speaker 4: aren't you? Why are you just writing books?
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: You've got the title of Avenger, and yet you're not
- 1:11:51Speaker 6: doing anything to help people day in and day out.
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: You could do more than you already are doing. So
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: that's kind of the fun thing. And of course... you know,
- 1:12:00Speaker 4: we're ever, ever, ever closer to our young Avengers because
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: literally we are missing one core member. Yeah. And I
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: don't know if we're going to get to him in
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: Secret Invasion or not, but basically we have one character
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: and he's a Skrull, but he's a nice Skrull. And,
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: you know, so yeah, I'm just waiting because the team
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: is there. We have all the other players. We've even
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: got members who came in later on because Cassie wasn't
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: an original member. She showed up like I don't know,
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: maybe after the first ten issues. But basically, the real
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: core team are the twins, Kate Bishop, Elijah, who we
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: met in Captain America and Winter Soldier. His grandfather was
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: a Captain America during World War II, or during Korea.
- 1:12:46Speaker 4: And then, granted... Kang kind of was a member in
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: the initial, but it was a younger, nicer version. I
- 1:12:54Speaker 4: don't want to be an asshole. Basically, in this movie,
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: he didn't want to be a dick. Because as we learn,
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: it's never too late to not be a dick.
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: Words to live by, kids. Exactly.
- 1:13:05Speaker 4: Look out for the little guy and don't be a dick.
- 1:13:08Speaker 4: That's the things we learn in this movie here.
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: While we're on, Cassie, to time out for real world,
- 1:13:16Speaker 6: do we know why they recast?
- 1:13:18Speaker 4: I have no idea.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: I mean, she's kind of more famous, so I didn't
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: know if that's why. I guess so. If we're moving
- 1:13:25Speaker 6: forward and going to give her maybe her own series,
- 1:13:27Speaker 6: maybe put her in the movies down the line, if
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: we want to get a.
- 1:13:30Speaker 4: More polished actress.
- 1:13:32Speaker 6: Because, yeah, I think she's the one from Freaky, if
- 1:13:35Speaker 6: I'm remembering. Yes. Which she's good in Freaky. Yeah, that's
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: a fun movie. At first, I was like, oh, it's
- 1:13:40Speaker 6: kind of weird that they're switching out. But then I
- 1:13:42Speaker 6: saw it was her. I was like, oh, she was
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: good in Freaky, so I can't complain about it.
- 1:13:45Speaker 4: But I thought.
- 1:13:46Speaker 6: they haven't done a ton of switch outs on the
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: people in the roles. Yeah.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: And it's, that irked a lot of fans too, because
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: basically I can't remember the actress name. I know her
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: first name is Emma, but I can't remember her last name. Yeah.
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: But yeah, I mean, she, it was kind of shitty too,
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: because like they didn't even tell her, Oh, Hey, you're
- 1:14:03Speaker 4: not going to be reprising this role. She literally found
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: out the way the rest of us did when they announced, Oh, Hey,
- 1:14:09Speaker 4: Catherine Newton's going to be playing the role of Cassie Lang.
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: And she's like, what?
- 1:14:12Speaker 6: I just bought a house guys.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:14:16Speaker 6: Was banking on this for years to come, thanks.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: Yeah, because the actress that we see in Endgame, that's
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: the age of Cassie as we see her now in Quantumanias.
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: It's like, that was an age-appropriate actress.
- 1:14:26Speaker 6: I mean, they already switched out from the first actress,
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: but that made sense. She was a little girl. He
- 1:14:31Speaker 6: comes back years later. She needs to be grown up.
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: So that makes sense. But yeah, this one, there wasn't
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: really a real reason within the story, so I assumed
- 1:14:41Speaker 6: there was some behind-the-scenes goings-on.
- 1:14:43Speaker 4: I guess she's a She's a bigger name. Yeah, that's
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: the only thing I can think of, yeah. But another
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: interesting thing, too, I just happened to think of, Cassie's
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: the only one we've really seen grow up through several films.
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:14:56Speaker 4: Like, okay, we've got the twins over in WandaVision, and
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: we saw them again in Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness,
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: but they're still the same age. So we haven't seen
- 1:15:03Speaker 4: them get older. Cassie, we've seen get older over multiple films.
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: And that's a unique treatment of her character more so
- 1:15:12Speaker 4: than any of the others. Because Tom Holland doesn't age. No,
- 1:15:15Speaker 4: Tom Holland doesn't age.
- 1:15:16Speaker 6: Somehow he's been the same age, even though really it's
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: been a lot of years.
- 1:15:19Speaker 4: He should look a little older, but he's still a
- 1:15:22Speaker 4: baby face kid. Well, he's got that good British genes.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: They don't age. I think they wait until like 75
- 1:15:30Speaker 4: and they hit the wall.
- 1:15:31Speaker 6: Yeah, they just turn.
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: They just turn. But up until 75, they look like
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: they're 25. Yeah.
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: But yeah, we haven't really had a lot of that.
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: We just veer away from it if we, you know,
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: it's weird that they kept bringing her back as a character. Normally,
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: if it gets too weird, they're just like, nah, and
- 1:15:47Speaker 6: then we're done with that character now.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: But it's been a fun thing to follow her. And,
- 1:15:52Speaker 4: of course, fans of the comics know that eventually the
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: Young Avengers are coming.
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: You know, we've got, like I said, we've laid out
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: every other cast member. So it's just a matter of, like,
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: when are they going to bust them out? Yeah. And,
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: of course, you know, we'll probably bust them out, you know,
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: a little bit later on. You know, we've got to
- 1:16:07Speaker 4: age the twins up. Yeah. You know, for obvious reasons.
- 1:16:10Speaker 6: It'd be okay if they started without them and put
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: somebody else in maybe and then go ahead and ease
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: them in.
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: The twins, especially Billy, is kind of crucial to the
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: early part. The thing is, Tommy doesn't come on the
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: team again until around when Cassie comes around. So Tommy
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: is not a core original member, but Billy is, the
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: wizardy one.
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: Well, and then are we.
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: What universe are we taking those twins from anyway?
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: That's a good question.
- 1:16:40Speaker 6: They don't technically exist in our world, right? So, like,
- 1:16:44Speaker 6: the only places you can pull them from is other multiverses.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: Exactly. It's confusing. Well, basically, you know, while that seems confusing,
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: if you remember, we got two Avengers movies coming up
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: in a couple years. One called The Kang Dynasty. Another
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: one called Secret Wars. Yep. And we're going to be
- 1:17:02Speaker 4: dealing with a whole lot of multiversal shit. That's a
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: great way to be able to age up some certain characters.
- 1:17:09Speaker 4: It's going to be a great way to bring back
- 1:17:12Speaker 4: a few people. If we don't see Chris Evans and
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: or Robert Downey Jr. in Secret Wars, I'm going to
- 1:17:18Speaker 4: be pissed. And so will a lot of other people.
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: Or even ScarJo. It's a great opportunity.
- 1:17:24Speaker 6: It's a way to bring people in.
- 1:17:26Speaker 4: Just for a one-off or whatever else. Because it doesn't
- 1:17:30Speaker 4: have to be like, oh, we're bringing her back. No,
- 1:17:32Speaker 4: this is a... black widow from another universe where she's
- 1:17:35Speaker 4: still alive or.
- 1:17:36Speaker 6: It's the professor xavier this last time around it's like
- 1:17:40Speaker 6: you know he's not around but here we can have
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: a nice little cameo and things are gonna work out great.
- 1:17:46Speaker 4: For him don't you worry yeah so and of course
- 1:17:48Speaker 4: i was convinced we were gonna see hugh jackman as
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: wolverine in that movie and then of course deadpool 3
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:17:53Speaker 6: We're gonna see him don't.
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: You oh i'm sure we i'm sure we are but
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: you know they see they they they kind of spoiled
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: a little bit beforehand. He's like, oh, we're going to
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: see Deadpool 3 and Deadpool 3 is going to come
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: out from 4.
- 1:18:04Speaker 6: We already see him working out, so we know he's
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: coming out.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: Yeah, we know he's coming, yeah. But yeah, those little
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: promos they were doing were great.
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: On that note, only because I just saw some sort
- 1:18:14Speaker 6: of talk show that they were talking to Paul Rudd,
- 1:18:18Speaker 6: and he talked about getting back into training and like,
- 1:18:21Speaker 6: he's in that suit the whole time. What's the point
- 1:18:24Speaker 6: of training to get ripped if you're not going to
- 1:18:26Speaker 6: do the signature Marvel shirtless scene? Like, We don't even
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: get that. Like, what's the point of bothering to get
- 1:18:33Speaker 6: super ripped? And he was talking about being on this
- 1:18:36Speaker 6: high-protein diet and changing everything about his life to get
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: ready for the next Ant-Man movie.
- 1:18:40Speaker 4: I mean, he still looks good in the suit.
- 1:18:41Speaker 6: He looks good, but I'm like, there's like a giant
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: piece of rubber around you. Like, you could be in horrible.
- 1:18:47Speaker 4: Shape and wear that suit and you'd look okay. I mean, there's...
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: we at least get a point to see Jonathan Major's guns,
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: because like, he was already in Creed 3 training before
- 1:18:56Speaker 4: he did this one, so like, he didn't need to
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: be superhero training.
- 1:18:59Speaker 6: He's there. He's already a big dude at this point.
- 1:19:02Speaker 6: The dude's a beast.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: I can't wait for Creed 3, man. Good God. It looks, yeah.
- 1:19:06Speaker 6: I've seen the trailer, the last two things I went
- 1:19:08Speaker 6: to the theater. I was like, Man, as if I
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: wasn't already on board with this Creed series.
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: Like, this is an interesting one. But, yeah, again, just
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: really enjoyed kind of just the whole journey we've taken
- 1:19:22Speaker 4: with Cassian. Now she's a superhero. We don't get her
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: superhero name in this movie, just yet. Even though if
- 1:19:27Speaker 4: you go out and look at the figures or the toys,
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: they call her Stature because that is her name in
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: the comics. She doesn't go with a bug theme. She's like,
- 1:19:36Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:19:37Speaker 6: Well, they also just jumped right to that. Much like
- 1:19:40Speaker 6: the rest of this plot, there's no easing into it.
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: It's like, she's just a kind of normal girl last
- 1:19:46Speaker 6: time we saw her. Now, not only is she getting
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: arrested because she's a social justice warrior, but she's also
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: got a suit, hanging out with Grandpa, who's not really
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: her grandpa, but he's adopted Grandpa, and is also kind
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: of a genius. I'm like, we didn't really get that.
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: She was just a normal kid every other movie so far.
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: So it's like, it's good that now she's like suddenly.
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: Iron Man level of genius. Yeah.
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: That's handy. But yeah, we didn't ease our way in
- 1:20:12Speaker 6: on any of those things.
- 1:20:13Speaker 4: She just, she's super smart. She's got her own suit.
- 1:20:16Speaker 6: She knows how to use it for the most part.
- 1:20:18Speaker 6: Other than the, you know, flip and kick. But yeah,
- 1:20:21Speaker 6: other than that, it's like we just immediately are thrown into,
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: oh yeah, and your daughter's also a superhero.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: You know, it's kind of funny. It kind of happened
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: in the same way in the books too. Because... You know,
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: when Scott was first introduced in the 80s, Cassie was
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: always the thing. And he was like, you know, he's
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: trying to split time between being a good dad and
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: trying to raise money and go, I'm really good at
- 1:20:41Speaker 4: being a thief, so there you go. Then he steals
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: the Ant-Man suit and the rest is history. But yeah,
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: Cassie was always the thing in there. And then literally
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: when they decided to do the Young Avengers thing, it's
- 1:20:52Speaker 4: kind of like, oh yeah, let's, you know, Ant-Man's got
- 1:20:54Speaker 4: a daughter. Let's take her. Let's bring her in. And
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: so literally there was no previous development of oh, she's,
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: you know, a bit of a science person or she's,
- 1:21:02Speaker 4: you know, a bit of an adventurer or whatnot. So, yeah.
- 1:21:06Speaker 4: It just happened real quick. But, I mean, she does
- 1:21:09Speaker 4: make a good point that basically, you know, a guy
- 1:21:12Speaker 4: in a bee suit tried to kill me when I
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: was six years old, so I've never had a normal life.
- 1:21:16Speaker 6: I did like that line. I was like, yeah, I mean,
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: we've been there for her whole upbringing now and every
- 1:21:22Speaker 6: step of the way it's, Weird stuff going on.
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: Oh, now my dad's a superhero. Oh, and then he
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: was gone for five years.
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: He was blipped out of existence and turned to dust.
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: Well, he wasn't even blipped out. He was stuck in
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: the Quadrant. Well, yeah.
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: As far as she knew, he was blipped out. But really,
- 1:21:35Speaker 6: he was.
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: Stuck in the back of a van somewhere. Yeah. But yeah,
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: so she's had a very interesting life nonetheless. But yeah,
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: it's going to be interesting to kind of get her
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: and Riri Williams from Wakanda Forever... soon to be Ironheart,
- 1:21:51Speaker 4: to get the two of them in the same room together.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: Because basically, there's your science people, whereas she is more
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: of the Tony Stark builder. Cassie, on the other hand,
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: is kind of almost like a Reed Richards, where she
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: gets into the experimental science and the super science kind
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: of stuff. So yeah, she's a bit of a builder too,
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: but she's on a different level. So she's in the
- 1:22:13Speaker 4: higher planes, that sort of thing like that. So that's
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: going to be very interesting to get these younger characters together,
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: kind of see what they come up with.
- 1:22:20Speaker 8: Definitely.
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:22:22Speaker 6: I do feel while we're on that first structure of it,
- 1:22:25Speaker 6: I think if there's anything that's a weird area, because
- 1:22:29Speaker 6: by the end.
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Yeah.
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: It does feel like it takes its time when it
- 1:22:35Speaker 6: doesn't need to once we, because we jump right to it,
- 1:22:38Speaker 6: but then there's like this long period of like, well,
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: we got to go look for somebody and well, I'm
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: not going to tell you what's going on. Like, it
- 1:22:47Speaker 6: seems like there's that extra time.
- 1:22:48Speaker 4: I'm like, Okay, first of all, we know who it is.
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:22:51Speaker 4: So it's a weird.
- 1:22:52Speaker 6: Long time before they bring our villain in, really. We
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: even have our floating head fake villain for a second there.
- 1:22:58Speaker 6: And then you're like, oh, no, I'm working for the
- 1:23:00Speaker 6: real guy. You just wait till he gets here. So
- 1:23:02Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, shouldn't he already be here? We know
- 1:23:04Speaker 6: who he is. Number one, saw Loki. We've seen the trailer. Like,
- 1:23:08Speaker 6: we know who it is. But they take a good
- 1:23:11Speaker 6: amount of time to work up.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: To, like, the big reveal and everything. I don't know.
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: That was weird.
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: So once we get him in there, I think from
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: that point on, everything's just kind of awesome. Because he's
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: so good, and then we get these great series of
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: action scenes. So just structure-wise, that was a puzzling part.
- 1:23:29Speaker 6: Why are we pretending or just taking so much time?
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: It'd be different if it was a fake-out reveal or something.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: But we know where we're going, and we go there.
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: It's not a change.
- 1:23:40Speaker 4: So they really.
- 1:23:42Speaker 6: Granted, in that downtime, we hang out with Bill Murray,
- 1:23:45Speaker 6: which I did not know was coming.
- 1:23:47Speaker 4: Oh, you didn't know that? Okay, yeah.
- 1:23:49Speaker 6: So that was fun and weird all at the same time.
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: It was kind of nice, too, because we've never really
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: seen him play a villainous character before. And there's a
- 1:23:58Speaker 4: couple of moments in his scene that he has. I mean,
- 1:24:03Speaker 4: Venkman's kind of.
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: He's maybe a sociopath.
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: Well, maybe, yeah.
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: But he's still a lovable guy.
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: But there's a couple of times where Bill has a
- 1:24:11Speaker 4: sinister delivery of things. Like, I could see more of
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: him playing a bad guy.
- 1:24:16Speaker 6: I would actually like to see... That's one of those...
- 1:24:19Speaker 6: Going back to Tarantino... Pluck him out of there and
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: throw him into your villain role. Yeah, I could watch that.
- 1:24:26Speaker 4: And it's interesting because the role he plays, the character,
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: I mean, you can't get any more obscure. I think
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: this character played like... I think he was in one
- 1:24:36Speaker 4: issue of The Hulk in either the late 70s or
- 1:24:40Speaker 4: the early 80s. And he was like a futuristic weapons
- 1:24:45Speaker 4: dealer guy. I mean, it just... one-off guy completely unimportant
- 1:24:50Speaker 4: to anything in the marvel universe but let's pull this
- 1:24:54Speaker 4: obscure character out just so i can stunt cast bill murray.
- 1:24:57Speaker 6: I mean they've done that a lot recently we've already
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: worked jeff goldblum in we can't do that again who
- 1:25:02Speaker 6: else can we get well i.
- 1:25:04Speaker 4: Mean but jeff goldblum's character though is sort of a
- 1:25:07Speaker 4: major character.
- 1:25:08Speaker 6: He eventually has a huge you know we're not huge
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: but he has a good amount of screen time he
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: does come into play as to how the Plot turns
- 1:25:15Speaker 6: out where that is not the case with Bill Murray.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, there's certain people they bring in like, okay, well,
- 1:25:20Speaker 4: you're like Benicio Del Toro and Jeff Goldblum's character. They're
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: universal aspects.
- 1:25:26Speaker 6: But they still sort of felt like that same casting
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: of like, what? Who can we get to play a weirdo?
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: Who's kind of a weirdo anyway? Benicio Del Toro? Yeah,
- 1:25:34Speaker 6: he'll do it.
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: They were well cast, but at least they were somewhat
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: important characters. Whereas Bill Murray's character is not. I mean,
- 1:25:40Speaker 4: he's not even in the quantum realm of... When Hulk
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: finds him. So, like, this character was completely reinvented just
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: to stick Bill Murray in the role. But, like, we
- 1:25:50Speaker 4: can't do a really important character just in case we
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: want to use this guy later on.
- 1:25:54Speaker 6: And Bill's probably not going to show up for a
- 1:25:56Speaker 6: whole movie for something weird like this. But if you
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: leave him a message on that answering machine, he'll, you know,
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: if he feels like it that day, he might show
- 1:26:05Speaker 6: up and do two days worth of shooting. So that's
- 1:26:09Speaker 6: what you get. And it's kind of worth it just
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: for the weird octopus thing. By the end there, I
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: was like, okay, I.
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: Didn't see that coming either. That's pretty awful. I was like, revenge!
- 1:26:19Speaker 4: You know, for the drink with the little squid character.
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: Yeah, that's pretty... And, you know, kind of the next
- 1:26:26Speaker 6: scene we go like, so... hooking up with him, were you?
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:26:30Speaker 4: That was a fun little post-married couple moment. Well, that
- 1:26:34Speaker 4: was kind of fun because you got to think like, okay,
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: you know, it's like, yeah, she was in the porn realm.
- 1:26:38Speaker 4: It was 30 years. Yeah, they were essentially separated for
- 1:26:41Speaker 4: 30 years, but yeah.
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: And he thought she was dead, so like, and she
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: didn't know what the hell was going on or that
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: she'd ever get back, so.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: There you go.
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: I get it, you know.
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: Yeah, she had needs.
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: You got needs, you got needs.
- 1:26:51Speaker 4: But yeah, a lot of the technology that was done there,
- 1:26:54Speaker 4: of course, like, you know, how The steering mechanism. It's
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: like these gelatinous worm things you stick here. It's like
- 1:26:59Speaker 4: stuffing a Thanksgiving turkey. Just jam it all the way
- 1:27:01Speaker 4: in there and there you go. Stuff like that. They
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: just wanted to establish the quantum realm doesn't play by
- 1:27:09Speaker 4: the rest of life's rules. The world's rules or anything.
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: Again, almost immediately we jump there and then the whole
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: rest of it is just.
- 1:27:18Speaker 4: Like a prog rock album cover. Yeah.
- 1:27:21Speaker 6: I mean, every time they'd cut away to some other thing,
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, yeah, there you go.
- 1:27:25Speaker 4: I mean, the VFX people, they just outdid themselves. Like,
- 1:27:29Speaker 4: the Quantum Realm was beautiful.
- 1:27:31Speaker 6: It is, and a lot of weird variations. Like, it
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: wasn't just the same thing. Like, you'd cut to a
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: different area, and it's like, no, this is an entirely
- 1:27:38Speaker 6: different weird thing we're looking at now.
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: Yeah, this whole movie is like walking in the Mos
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: Eisley canteen, and you're seeing like a hundred different aliens.
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: Which, there were a few that I was like, aren't
- 1:27:48Speaker 6: those just leftovers from that last Star Wars movie? The
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: ones that had like the head drape, almost like a
- 1:27:55Speaker 6: Middle Eastern headgear on. And I was like, weren't they
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: in the party scene when they go meet Lando in
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: that last movie?
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: Oh, you're talking about when she meets up with the
- 1:28:03Speaker 4: people and chops the dude's arm off together, right? Okay,
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: those were nomads. So that's kind of why they were
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: all dressed up like the desert.
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: But again, it kind of feels like that same, which
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: there's a few times in this, And now I'm just like,
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: are these all just big storytelling? Because there's so many
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: moments that I'm like, it's kind of like from this movie.
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: And that's kind of, but I mean, I guess when
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: you watch enough crap, everything starts to be, there's only
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: so many variations, but there are a few times in
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: this when I'm like, well, I'm kind of like, you know,
- 1:28:31Speaker 6: cause they do. I mean, they have the, let's create
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: a revolution in the middle of our story just for
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: the hell of it. And I'm like, like the robot revolution.
- 1:28:40Speaker 6: when they jump out of the ship and yell revolution
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: i was like that's a little familiar based on a
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: company that owns both of these properties yeah but then
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: also that's i was like well that's also what they
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: did in the in the ragnarok too like with jeff
- 1:28:53Speaker 6: goldblum they set up their own little mini revolution to
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: kind of go along with what they were in the
- 1:28:58Speaker 6: middle of already doing. So I'm like, we're starting to
- 1:29:00Speaker 6: see themes here, but, It may.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: Just be general storytelling stuff. Traditionally, when you have a
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: despotic ruler, sooner or later the folks are going to
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: revolt against him. These are basic things.
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: But even, yeah, the big battle of like, here comes the,
- 1:29:13Speaker 6: you know, oh, we're going to lose. Oh, here comes
- 1:29:16Speaker 6: the big army. It's like, is this just Return of
- 1:29:18Speaker 6: the King now? Like, what do we, like, everything. I
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: was like, again, these are all just classic storytelling tropes.
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: Well, and in this case that, you know, Michael Douglas
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: gets to play Gandalf because he comes in with the
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: ant cavalry. He comes rolling in. And I love the
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: super smart ants. That was great.
- 1:29:34Speaker 6: That was cool.
- 1:29:35Speaker 4: And like, they just sort of buried that at the beginning. Like,
- 1:29:38Speaker 4: we just barely get the ant farm.
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: And then by the time we get to them at
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: the end, it's like, all right, it's a good thing
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: we set that up because damn if they're not awesome
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: when they show up.
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: Yeah, because we know they got in the quantum realm
- 1:29:49Speaker 4: with them. So it's like, you know, they aged up
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: and I mean, they were already super smart, but they
- 1:29:53Speaker 4: aged up even more. I like that tech. Yeah. Well,
- 1:29:57Speaker 4: I mean, yeah. Like, we got ants who built their
- 1:29:59Speaker 4: own society, a technocracy. And then when they show up
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: to battle, like, they're armed to the teeth.
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: I like the one that had, like, the laser on
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: his thorax or, like, in his mandible area. And, like,
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: anything that comes in front of him, he's just, like,
- 1:30:13Speaker 6: cutting it in half. Sawing it down.
- 1:30:15Speaker 4: Like, that's awesome. Yeah. Or, like, had, like, the giant ant, like,
- 1:30:19Speaker 4: the big tank thing. I was like, dude, okay. Yeah.
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: And once again, this is, I mean, I know it,
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: but he's changed so much in recent years. But like
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: that shot of Michael Douglas, I'm like, man, I grew
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: up in an era when there was nobody cooler than
- 1:30:32Speaker 6: Michael Douglas. So watching him just come strolling up with
- 1:30:35Speaker 6: the battle full of ants, I was just like, there
- 1:30:38Speaker 6: he is.
- 1:30:39Speaker 4: He still got it.
- 1:30:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I was like, that's that badass I remember.
- 1:30:42Speaker 4: Still got it.
- 1:30:43Speaker 6: Yep.
- 1:30:45Speaker 4: Michael Douglas. Oh, and we got to talk about our
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: freedom fighters here throughout the movie. So- you know of
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: course we've got you know an array of different characters.
- 1:30:55Speaker 4: That was another one.
- 1:30:55Speaker 6: I was like, this is sort of a thing they
- 1:30:57Speaker 6: return to with like, let's find some weird, quirky side
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: characters and then suddenly they're going to become your favorite.
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: This is the Thor Ragnarok all over again. It's like,
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: those two guys are my favorite in the whole movie.
- 1:31:08Speaker 6: And then you realize, later they realize that too. We're
- 1:31:11Speaker 6: going to keep putting them in there. So I'm waiting
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: to see if I've Got No Holes becomes a standard
- 1:31:16Speaker 6: go-to at this point.
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: Who doesn't like it? Veb is going to be everybody's
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: favorite new character now. He's pretty lovable. Yeah, just this
- 1:31:24Speaker 4: sweet little gelatinous guy.
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: Who runs ridiculous.
- 1:31:28Speaker 4: Who runs ridiculous, but his most important character trait is
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: that apparently he oozes a liquid, and this liquid is
- 1:31:36Speaker 4: used basically as a universal translator. So you drink his ooze,
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: and then now you can communicate with everybody in the
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: quantum realm.
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: That was another thing there of watching, and I was like,
- 1:31:47Speaker 6: this is also like Marvel translated through.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: Douglas Adams.
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: I was like, there's the babblefish. And then there was
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: another one later in the movie. I was like, that's
- 1:31:58Speaker 6: kind of like the, I don't know. There's a lot
- 1:32:01Speaker 6: of those weird sort of ridiculous things going on in
- 1:32:04Speaker 6: the quantum realm that are a little Douglas Adams-y. So
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: I'm like, yeah, I can see that. Yeah.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: But the interesting thing is that, of course, when I
- 1:32:12Speaker 4: saw the trailer and I saw the scene where kind
- 1:32:14Speaker 4: of the freedom fighters come up over the hill and
- 1:32:16Speaker 4: gather together, I was convinced that those were the Micronauts. Yeah.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Because the Micronauts were a property that Marvel had in
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: conjunction with Hasbro, because it was another, like, toy-turned-comic book.
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: But the irony is that the comic book lasted twice
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: as long as the toy line ever did. And then,
- 1:32:33Speaker 4: matter of fact, they had, like, a second iteration, like
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: a sequel series that was done, like, it started in
- 1:32:37Speaker 4: the 70s, and then they had, like, a sequel series
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: in the 80s. And then the property went dormant for
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: a long time, and then another company picked them up
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: and is doing Micronauts books again.
- 1:32:46Speaker 6: I think it's because the toys were really fragile.
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: I ended up with one, and every time I moved him,
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: I was like, oh, I think he's going to break.
- 1:32:55Speaker 4: They were, and they were very... The toys versus the
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: comics are almost two completely separate things. Yeah. Because while
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: there are characters that do overlap, they have a whole
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: other slew of characters in the comic books that are
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: the lead heroes... That were never represented in the toys.
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: No.
- 1:33:12Speaker 4: Like the main bad guy is, but not.
- 1:33:15Speaker 6: I don't even remember them having character so much with
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: the toys. It was just like, here's some guys.
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: This one's orange. This one's green.
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: That was the most defining trait they had.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: This one's got a silver face and a translucent body.
- 1:33:27Speaker 6: Yeah. This one has a silver face and an orange
- 1:33:30Speaker 6: translucent body. Totally different guy. And then, okay, the main
- 1:33:34Speaker 6: bad guy looks kind of like a Wish version of
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: Darth Vader.
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: So there you go. So... Yeah. But yeah, so the
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: comics went much further. They were incorporated within the Marvel Universe,
- 1:33:45Speaker 4: and then basically Hasbro pulled the rights. And so now
- 1:33:49Speaker 4: we've kind of got this franchise that every now and
- 1:33:51Speaker 4: then keeps kind of popping up in Marvel continuity. There
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: was a character, part of the Micronauts, called Bug, who
- 1:33:57Speaker 4: later pops up in Guardians of the Galaxy in one
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: of its revival series. So all these Guardians fans are
- 1:34:03Speaker 4: expecting Bug to pop up in the movies. Like, that's
- 1:34:05Speaker 4: never going to happen. Because Hasbro... Just for whatever reason,
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: they will not release the Micronauts.
- 1:34:13Speaker 6: We only have so much stuff. We have to hold
- 1:34:16Speaker 6: on to these.
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: But it's also they're not doing shit with them. Yeah,
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: of course.
- 1:34:19Speaker 6: There's no movies.
- 1:34:20Speaker 4: They tried a comic book through IDW Publishing. Because they
- 1:34:24Speaker 4: did the whole thing. Hasbro has the rights to G.I. Joe, Transformers, Mask, Micronauts,
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: and ROM Space Knights. And My Little Pony. And My
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: Little Pony. Yeah.
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: The most badass of all.
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: And with the exception of My Little Pony, they try
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: to do a collective universe with all these toy properties
- 1:34:41Speaker 4: in there.
- 1:34:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: And they actually have done a crossover of My Little
- 1:34:44Speaker 4: Pony and Transformers. Well, no, that was, yeah, I didn't
- 1:34:46Speaker 4: know this existed.
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: I specifically messaged, I mean, if you listen to the show,
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: I messaged Misty and went, how do I not know
- 1:34:54Speaker 6: there's a My Little Pony.
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: That's also a Ghostbusters?
- 1:34:58Speaker 6: Me, dork that I am, someone who goes out and
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: sees toys and random crap all the time, how have
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: I not run across this? Because it's been out for
- 1:35:06Speaker 6: several years. Oh, wow. But yeah, it's normal, looks exactly
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: shaped like a My Little Pony, and yet has the
- 1:35:12Speaker 6: Ghostbuster emblem right on its butt like they always had
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: lightning or cupcakes or whatever weird shit. So yeah, I
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: saw that recently and was like, how did I not know.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: This was a thing?
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: But I looked, that's that same series. They did a
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: crossover of Ghostbusters. Power Rangers for some reason. And they
- 1:35:28Speaker 6: did one that's an Optimus Prime pony. Yeah.
- 1:35:31Speaker 4: So he's pretty badass looking. He or she, whichever. There's
- 1:35:34Speaker 4: also a Transformer of Ecto-1. Yeah. There's a Transformer of
- 1:35:38Speaker 4: the DeLorean from Back to the Future. And now my favorite,
- 1:35:41Speaker 4: they're doing G.I. Joe Transformers mashups where like there's Bumblebee
- 1:35:47Speaker 4: that transforms into a G.I. Joe vehicle. And then there's,
- 1:35:50Speaker 4: I can't remember which, Decepticon transforming into a Cobra vehicle. So, like,
- 1:35:55Speaker 4: you get a Transformer that turns into a G.I. Joe
- 1:35:57Speaker 4: replica vehicle, but it's still, when you transform it, it's
- 1:36:00Speaker 4: the Transformer you know. It's also a Transformer. It's your
- 1:36:02Speaker 4: favorite thing. But then it also comes with a G.I.
- 1:36:03Speaker 4: Joe figure, too. So it's like, holy shit. This is
- 1:36:06Speaker 4: too much for my brain to handle. It's too much
- 1:36:08Speaker 4: awesome is what it is. You know? But anyway, so
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: they're doing all these kind of especially crossover toys. But, yeah,
- 1:36:14Speaker 4: so anyway, so I knew, like, okay, did they get
- 1:36:16Speaker 4: the rights to the Micronauts? Or, like, are we going
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: to do kind of like a half-assed Micronauts and we
- 1:36:21Speaker 4: get a half-assed Micronauts?
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: So.
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: Basically, because the Micronauts were a group of basically collected
- 1:36:26Speaker 4: heroes throughout the Quantum Realm that had a... I can't
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: remember what the Lord... Like, not Voltron, or... I can't
- 1:36:34Speaker 4: remember what the main bad guy's name was. But basically,
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: he was a despotic ruler of the Quantum Realm, and
- 1:36:40Speaker 4: they go and basically are freedom fighters fighting against him.
- 1:36:43Speaker 4: So it's the same concept, they just couldn't call them
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: the Micronauts, and they couldn't use any of the names
- 1:36:48Speaker 4: of the Micronauts. And, like, they basically turned, like, the
- 1:36:51Speaker 4: main guy, Acrier, into the warrior woman character. A.K.A. Valkyrie.
- 1:36:57Speaker 6: Yeah. She is badass.
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: But, yeah, Jentora's awesome. Yeah. It felt a little Valkyrie-esque.
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: Very Valkyrie-esque, yeah.
- 1:37:06Speaker 6: I mean, Valkyrie's also badass, so I can't blame you.
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: Yeah. There's a lot of badass warrior women.
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: Oh, there are. But that one, she didn't really have
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: much else. Like, she wasn't given a ton of. all
- 1:37:17Speaker 6: you get is badass.
- 1:37:18Speaker 4: She's just like, oh, she's got.
- 1:37:20Speaker 6: A staff, and what was that staff doing exactly? But
- 1:37:23Speaker 6: it was badass. So yeah, she was cool, but I
- 1:37:27Speaker 6: kind of wanted more personality from her, but we didn't
- 1:37:29Speaker 6: spend much time with anybody. The most we get is
- 1:37:32Speaker 6: I've got no holes.
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: Yeah, well, we got enough. Basically, you kind of had
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: like four freedom fighters you kind of got attached to. Basically,
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: you got Gentora, you had Veb we've talked about. You've
- 1:37:42Speaker 4: got the telepath Quaz. Which he's got some great scenes, too.
- 1:37:46Speaker 6: I was going to say, he's got the good lines. So, yeah,
- 1:37:49Speaker 6: he's got all the jokes when there's not a ton
- 1:37:51Speaker 6: of jokes. He had half of them, it felt like.
- 1:37:53Speaker 4: Yeah, and then, of course, you've got the robotic, was
- 1:37:55Speaker 4: it like the laser-headed dude? Zalem. Zalem is his name, yeah.
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: Pretty badass, too. Yeah, and so, you know, not to
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: spoil anything, but he's our one, you know, casualty.
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: Yeah, we didn't lose a ton of people this time around,
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: so I guess that was the only, well, we've got
- 1:38:09Speaker 6: to kill somebody.
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: It's got to be semi-realistic. We've got to off one
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: of our regulars. Well, and we kind of get a
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: false ending, too, where we think that basically, oh, maybe
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: Ant-Man and the Wasp now are trapped in the quantum realm.
- 1:38:21Speaker 6: Yeah, like almost immediately they reverse that.
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: It's like, oh, okay, they're going to be in here
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: for a little bit. Yeah, I thought we were going
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: to leave it like we did. on the cliffhanger at
- 1:38:31Speaker 6: the end of the second one. It's like, oh, he's
- 1:38:32Speaker 6: stuck there now. I thought that's kind of how we
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: were coming back to it.
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: And so I thought maybe they were going to do that. Like, okay,
- 1:38:39Speaker 4: we're going to have Ant-Man leading the Freedom Fighters and
- 1:38:43Speaker 4: then he gives them the name the Micronauts or something.
- 1:38:45Speaker 4: So we get that in there, but then they're like, oh, no, wait,
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: Cassie went over there She's the one who initially built
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: this machine, so she can easily repair it and open
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: the door back up.
- 1:38:54Speaker 6: So within seconds, she can Iron Man her way right
- 1:38:56Speaker 6: in there and fix everything. So that's what she did.
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: Yeah. So it's like, okay.
- 1:39:00Speaker 6: Never mind.
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: Yeah. Back to Baskin-Robbins. Yeah. So there you go. Oh,
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: and I didn't... That's great, too. We get lots of
- 1:39:08Speaker 4: Baskin-Robbins jokes, you know, bringing that nugget back from the
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: first movie, the creepy manager, whatever else. And then I
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: didn't notice it the first time I went, so he
- 1:39:16Speaker 4: picks up the ice cream cake, and of course you see, like,
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: this horrible aunt... You see a lot of mistakes on there.
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: I didn't realize he spelled birthday wrong. But it's like
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: Biff Day or something like that.
- 1:39:27Speaker 6: Yeah, he came out of retirement for that.
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: Yeah. And my wife asked the very obvious question, like,
- 1:39:33Speaker 4: how do you screw up an ice cream cake? You know,
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: it's like... He seemed to find a way. It's like,
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: do they make the cake fresh there in the stores?
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: I always kind of was the impression that it basically
- 1:39:43Speaker 4: is like they just get like slabs of cake and
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: slather ice cream between there and there you go.
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: Yeah, it's just pre-made in a truck and you just
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: put the little... detail on the side there. You do
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: a little trim and you're good.
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: Yeah, or if somebody wants a specific flavor, you just
- 1:39:55Speaker 4: basically slather your brick of ice cream in between two
- 1:39:58Speaker 4: things of cake there and there you go. I don't know,
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: but either way, the man apparently is capable of screwing
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: up an ice cream cake.
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: Can I at least make my... It's never too late
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: to not be a dick, but sometimes I still have to...
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: I've mentioned this many a time and I'm not trying
- 1:40:15Speaker 6: to be a jackass guy that thinks he can comment
- 1:40:18Speaker 6: on women's looks, I'm just being realistic. I do not
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: like her haircut. Hope, what are you thinking? I don't
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: like that haircut.
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, I was confined the other movies.
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: There's only a handful of women that can pull off
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: something that short.
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: I don't know. It ain't happening.
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: I don't get it.
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: It didn't completely distract me, but I wasn't 100% a
- 1:40:38Speaker 4: fan of it.
- 1:40:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:40:39Speaker 4: But see, the thing is that she dyes her hair
- 1:40:41Speaker 4: for the Ant-Man movies to play the character of Hope
- 1:40:45Speaker 4: as a brunette. But in real life, she's a blonde. Yeah.
- 1:40:49Speaker 4: And so she's kind of running around with that length
- 1:40:52Speaker 4: of hair, and she's a blonde.
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: See, I thought maybe it was just to simplify putting
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: the helmet on, because now she's in action mode the
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: whole movie. Unlike the first movie, she didn't have to
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: worry about that so much.
- 1:41:03Speaker 4: The second movie in Endgame.
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: Second movie in Endgame, she's in there the whole time.
- 1:41:07Speaker 6: So I was like, maybe this just simplifies the whole problem.
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: But I was like, well, but Cassie has a ponytail,
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: and she has no problem putting her helmet on. Yeah.
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: I don't get it. I don't know.
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: So it's not my place to say whether or not
- 1:41:18Speaker 6: You can do whatever the hell you want with your hair.
- 1:41:20Speaker 4: Just saying. I don't like that hair. Yeah. There's a
- 1:41:23Speaker 4: couple of, you know, I don't know if these were
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: purposefully put in lines, but there's a couple of lines,
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: two different moments in the movie that kind of a
- 1:41:32Speaker 4: little bit, you know, mirror real life. There's a scene
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: where basically MODOK, a.k.a. Darren, sees Cassie for the first time.
- 1:41:40Speaker 4: And says, Cassie, I barely recognize you. That one was, well, yeah,
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: that was funny.
- 1:41:46Speaker 6: But also I do, while we're on that, I do
- 1:41:48Speaker 6: like him at the end going, you changed your hair.
- 1:41:51Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That is funny.
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: I didn't like the hair change, but it is a
- 1:41:57Speaker 6: funny line.
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: The first thing, you know, as he's dying, he's like,
- 1:42:02Speaker 4: you changed your hair. But yeah, the line of, oh,
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: I barely recognize you, because that's the fourth actor to
- 1:42:07Speaker 4: play this role. The other line I thought was funny
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: was when basically, you know, Hank brings in all the
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: ant army and says something about I know socialism is
- 1:42:19Speaker 4: a charged word but we can learn a lot from
- 1:42:21Speaker 4: these guys and then Evangeline Lilly shuts him down which
- 1:42:25Speaker 4: is kind of funny because much like Letitia Wright in
- 1:42:28Speaker 4: real life Evangeline Lilly has gotten on social media and
- 1:42:30Speaker 4: made some controversial political statements and Disney had to basically
- 1:42:35Speaker 4: say shut your fucking mouth you.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: Are a big part of these movies would you like
- 1:42:39Speaker 6: to continue to be? Just people in general. Just like,
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: you can think whatever you want, but shh, don't get
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: on Twitter and say it because you're going to get
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: yourself fired.
- 1:42:48Speaker 4: Yeah. So, you know, think whatever you want. I don't care, but. Yeah,
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: it's like, be fucking smart about this, people. It's like,
- 1:42:55Speaker 4: you are, it's like, it's one thing to have your
- 1:42:57Speaker 4: own political opinions and your own, you know, social opinions
- 1:43:00Speaker 4: or whatever else. It's like, But when you are a
- 1:43:02Speaker 4: part of a multinational conglomerate media giant that is fucking Disney,
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: you shut your damn mouth.
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: Just from, like, again, I'm not telling you to do that.
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: I'm just saying you should know to do that as
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: you're dealing with your livelihood at this point.
- 1:43:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:43:22Speaker 6: You think you would have sense enough to be like,
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: you know what? I think I'm going to just back off.
- 1:43:26Speaker 4: No, I'm not going to say anything, huh?
- 1:43:28Speaker 6: I'll just post this picture of a kitty, and that's
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: pretty funny, and people will like that. I don't really
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: need to go on a rant on Twitter right now.
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: Great fucking case in point, Jon Voight. John Voight for
- 1:43:38Speaker 4: years had a great career. Some people knew him, knew
- 1:43:41Speaker 4: he was a political guy, knew he was a conservative guy.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: But the older he gets, the more crazy conservative he gets.
- 1:43:47Speaker 4: And then guess what? You can't get in a fucking
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: Hallmark movie now. That's pretty much everybody.
- 1:43:51Speaker 6: Everybody somehow becomes older and more conservative and more of.
- 1:43:55Speaker 4: An asshole most of the time.
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: I'm like, I don't care what your political beliefs are,
- 1:44:00Speaker 6: but just shut up.
- 1:44:01Speaker 4: Yeah, Rob Schneider, there's a reason you're not getting cast
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: in anything except a podcast. There was a reason in
- 1:44:07Speaker 4: the 80s and 90s as far as I was concerned. Well,
- 1:44:10Speaker 4: he was Adam Sandler's buddy.
- 1:44:11Speaker 6: That's how he got every role he had.
- 1:44:13Speaker 4: He can get in movies and just be a funny...
- 1:44:16Speaker 4: I mean, I met the guy in person. He's a
- 1:44:17Speaker 4: nice guy. But it's like, okay, if you have controversial
- 1:44:21Speaker 4: political statements, just don't... say those in avenues where you
- 1:44:26Speaker 4: are written down or recorded.
- 1:44:29Speaker 6: In any way.
- 1:44:29Speaker 4: Where you're going to get yourself fired.
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: Because you will.
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: This is the world we live in. Yeah, and the
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: world of Hollywood is a liberal town oh yeah we
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: know this it's been that way since jump street.
- 1:44:42Speaker 6: But it used to be you could do whatever you
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: wanted and everything got swept under the rug or even
- 1:44:48Speaker 6: the press used to look the other way and that
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: is not the world we live in now and you
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: know that since the internet came about specifically since social
- 1:44:56Speaker 6: media became a thing in the forefront at this point
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: that like you can't do that anymore and now that
- 1:45:03Speaker 6: basically not the world we live.
- 1:45:04Speaker 4: In and then now that basically every citizen who owns
- 1:45:07Speaker 4: a smartphone is now considered a part of the media
- 1:45:09Speaker 4: yep you have a recording device in your hand that
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: you could broadcast it to the world.
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: And no matter what you say even if you think
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: oh i might go back and delete that by this
- 1:45:19Speaker 6: time 4 000 people have already screenshotted it and you're
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: not escaping from it so there's no going back covering
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: your tracks like at this point just Just everybody shut up.
- 1:45:28Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:45:30Speaker 4: That's the thing. Unless you're saying something like, you know what?
- 1:45:33Speaker 4: Puppies are great. Puppies are great. That's something everybody can
- 1:45:38Speaker 4: get behind. Sick with nice.
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: Post a little post if you want to still have
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: a career. Again, I don't care. You can be an
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: asshole if you want, but don't expect to still have
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: a career when you post stupid things.
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: Retire, then become an asshole. Yeah, you can think and
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: say whatever the hell you want.
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: I'm not here to tell you, but I will tell
- 1:45:55Speaker 6: you you're going to get fired if you do it.
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: People are dumb. Well, I don't know. It's just people just,
- 1:46:00Speaker 4: you know, the ego gets in the way of good sense.
- 1:46:03Speaker 4: And y'all is like, I'm a famous person. I can
- 1:46:06Speaker 4: say what I want.
- 1:46:06Speaker 7: No.
- 1:46:07Speaker 4: You can.
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: It's not going to work out for you.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: Well, I mean, the whole thing is that some people
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: who've had the misunderstanding of things, of like, the internet
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: basically brought consequences.
- 1:46:19Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: That's what it.
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: I mean, you were held accountable for things you said.
- 1:46:24Speaker 4: Yeah. Well, I'll be damned. You know, that's kind of
- 1:46:26Speaker 4: how it should have always worked.
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: But it didn't. And now all of a sudden, you're
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: actually responsible for the things you do and say.
- 1:46:34Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sure. Oops, you know. I'm sure in all
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: of our youth, you know, or whatever else we've said
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: or done things we regret.
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: But, you know, fortunately, no one was around to record
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: those things. That's not the case now. And so, yeah,
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: you got to be careful about that shit. It's a
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: different world. So, yeah, it's like, ladies, men, whatever the
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: case may be, it's like, Yo, Amber Heard is a
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: great example. She will not be appearing in the Aquaman
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: film coming out in November of this year. She was
- 1:47:03Speaker 4: in the movie. She shot all her scenes. She's still
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: getting paid for her work, but she will not be
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: in the final cut of the movie whatsoever. So, lesson
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: learned here, folks. Watch your shit.
- 1:47:16Speaker 6: To counterbalance Don't Like Hope's hair, Michelle Pfeiffer looks amazing.
- 1:47:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:47:23Speaker 6: Not to, again, be a creepy dude, but I'm just like,
- 1:47:25Speaker 6: I love the hair. Like, again, like, don't bother dyeing
- 1:47:28Speaker 6: it because she looks amazing.
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47:30Speaker 6: And, like, not just the hair.
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: How the hell does she hold up like she does?
- 1:47:34Speaker 6: Because she is not a kid anymore and yet looks
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: so damn good.
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:47:38Speaker 6: Points to you, Michelle.
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: You look terrific. I would like to think she probably
- 1:47:43Speaker 4: knows what moisturizer is. Obviously. Amazing. And she looks like
- 1:47:47Speaker 4: she hasn't had any work done or anything.
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: No, that's the best part is she doesn't look doctored
- 1:47:52Speaker 6: up like Almost everybody at this point.
- 1:47:54Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, so it's like, yeah, she's just aging very,
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: very well and, you know, still got it. And then, like,
- 1:48:02Speaker 4: you know, this is, I mean, she's done some adventure-y
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: roles before and she, I mean, she was a freaking
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: cat one. But she did way more action in this
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: movie than I've ever seen her do before.
- 1:48:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:48:14Speaker 4: Like I said, she is a full-on badass in this movie.
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: I'm all for it. So, yeah. I would love.
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: Michelle Pfeiffer.
- 1:48:21Speaker 4: I would love to see more Janet Van Dyne in action. So, yeah. But, yeah. So,
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: you know, we've kind of talked a little bit about
- 1:48:29Speaker 4: Kang a little bit. But we've got to get to
- 1:48:32Speaker 4: Kang and talk a little bit more about him. Because, again,
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: this is our big bad for this movie.
- 1:48:38Speaker 6: Chunk of this whole run for the next several years.
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: So settle in we're gonna get real close with mr
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: majors here.
- 1:48:46Speaker 6: Which at least this is promising you know if we
- 1:48:49Speaker 6: would have gotten in and went oh who is this
- 1:48:51Speaker 6: guy you know you'd be in trouble because it's not
- 1:48:53Speaker 6: a one-off villain like we've had those I feel like
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: that was one of my issues in that last Thor movie.
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: I was like, well, that was.
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: Oh, he's gone? Oh, well.
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: So you don't have to worry about whether or not
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: you liked him because he's gone already. But this guy
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: is going to be around in the series, as we
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: see by the end of this, in the next upcoming movies.
- 1:49:11Speaker 6: It's like he's our go-to.
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: So... Yeah.
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: So, of course, he's going to be, you know, different
- 1:49:16Speaker 4: than Thanos, you know, different type of villain. And, yeah,
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: what I like a lot about, you know, Kang is,
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: you know, very much when he wants to, he can
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: be very charming. He's highly manipulative, you know, like he
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: knows how to work somebody.
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: And you kind of almost get a little bit of
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: mirroring from that from Janet, right? Because she's basically the
- 1:49:39Speaker 4: secret holder. She knows all the shit that's going on.
- 1:49:42Speaker 4: She knows what they're heading into, but still does not
- 1:49:45Speaker 4: tell her family, does.
- 1:49:46Speaker 6: Not tell her friends. Hasn't mentioned it since she's been back, period.
- 1:49:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:49:49Speaker 6: And even when they're in the middle of this, it's
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: just like... Anyway, I've got to go look for somebody.
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: I'm like, wow. Even now, when they're in danger, you're
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: not going to come clean on it.
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: Yeah. So she's kind of holding back a lot of
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: secrets and manipulating the people she's with, but she's doing
- 1:50:05Speaker 4: it for protection or into that guy's. But it's like,
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: you need to come clean with the fact that you
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: have an Omega-level threat here who's been trying to get
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: out longer than you have now because you were in
- 1:50:18Speaker 4: for 30 years and you left, but he's still been
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: in here for another 10 years. So, it's like, and
- 1:50:23Speaker 4: what he did in that time is rather horrific. So, shit.
- 1:50:31Speaker 4: But the interesting thing, jumping ahead to our cut scenes,
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: because we have two post-credit scenes, both dealing with Kang.
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: They didn't even switch up like they knew.
- 1:50:42Speaker 6: Normally, there's like, here's what's coming next, and here's a
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: funny one-off thing we thought of.
- 1:50:47Speaker 4: And we get a little bit of that because our
- 1:50:49Speaker 4: second scene, we see Loki and Mobius again. So it's like, okay,
- 1:50:56Speaker 4: we know we're going to be... Because, I mean, you
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: saw season one of Loki. You know season two, Kang
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: is going to be all over that. Things have changed,
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: and Loki's the only one that knows everything's different. So
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: we get a little bit of that, but we get
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: to see another different aspect of Kang... in that time
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: period and who he is and his style of character there.
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: But then the first scene, though, was much more interesting
- 1:51:18Speaker 4: because we get the Council of Kangs.
- 1:51:21Speaker 6: See, that's what earlier I was going to get to
- 1:51:24Speaker 6: because when you were talking about the different stages of Kang,
- 1:51:28Speaker 6: once we get to that point, I'm like, okay, so
- 1:51:30Speaker 6: now I'm trying to figure out what are those actually
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: different people and there are multiples of them or is
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: this the same guy in different time periods?
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: The Council of Kangs, it depends. This is like Rick
- 1:51:44Speaker 4: and Morty, right? Kind of, yeah. It is kind of
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: like Rick and Morty, yeah.
- 1:51:48Speaker 6: So he hates all of them.
- 1:51:50Speaker 4: You guys all suck. Well, that's the thing. Kang is
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: very prone to want to team up with himself, but
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: he's also very prone to want to manipulate himself for
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: his own means. Very much like Rick and Morty. And
- 1:52:02Speaker 4: if the other Kangs get destroyed in the process, that's fine.
- 1:52:05Speaker 4: Very much like Rick and Morty. If they follow the comics,
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: the three Kangs we see initially in that scene, that's
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: Kang in three different stages of his career.
- 1:52:14Speaker 6: Okay, so that is the same guy, he's just different
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: arcs coming back around.
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: Same guy, different time periods. Out of time, yeah. Because
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: the ancient Egyptian, that's Ramatut. That's basically when Kang first
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: discovers time travel, he goes back to ancient Egypt, becomes
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: a pharaoh. and rules for centuries.
- 1:52:33Speaker 6: Sounds like a pretty good gig.
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: I can't blame him on that one. And the Avengers
- 1:52:40Speaker 4: come across Kang in the modern world, but the first
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: time the Fantastic Four run into Kang, it's in ancient
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: Egypt and they meet Ramatut. So that's kind of our
- 1:52:48Speaker 4: first introduction, like, oh, Kang's been doing some shit. The
- 1:52:53Speaker 4: futuristic one, basically, that's probably like a much later, you know,
- 1:52:57Speaker 4: you know, version, you know, his armor is changed. Cyborg-y looking.
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: Very cyborg-y.
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: The other one is the most interesting one because that's Amortus.
- 1:53:07Speaker 4: Amortus considers himself the lord of time. He almost considers
- 1:53:11Speaker 4: himself like a god where he basically controls time, can
- 1:53:16Speaker 4: easily manipulate it, manipulate events from the shadows. He's no
- 1:53:20Speaker 4: longer an active participant in stuff. He's basically the guy
- 1:53:24Speaker 4: in the big castle. Basically, he's almost kind of like
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: The version we see in the end of Loki. That's
- 1:53:29Speaker 4: what I was going to ask.
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: Is that who we run into at the end of Loki,
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: or is that.
- 1:53:33Speaker 4: A different variation? Different variation. But still pretty much that
- 1:53:36Speaker 4: same thing. Because that is basically a really, really, really, really, really,
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: really old Kang.
- 1:53:41Speaker 6: That's the old, tired version of Kang. He's just like,
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: I don't even feel like destroying you guys anymore.
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: Well, that's the thing, though. He still does. But he's like,
- 1:53:49Speaker 4: I'm not an active participant anymore. I'll just sit here
- 1:53:52Speaker 4: in the shadows. And, you know, cut this time stream,
- 1:53:55Speaker 4: cut this time stream, cut and paste, you know. So
- 1:53:58Speaker 4: he's a projectionist now in an old movie theater. Yeah, basically.
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: So he's still doing the manipulating and doing the evil things.
- 1:54:06Speaker 4: But now he's doing it on a much grander scale.
- 1:54:09Speaker 4: And sometimes does things that would be somewhat considered good.
- 1:54:13Speaker 4: But if you've got to break a couple eggs to
- 1:54:16Speaker 4: make the omelet, he's okay with that.
- 1:54:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:54:18Speaker 4: Because he's seen how it all works out.
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: Right. When you're that detached and distanced from everything, yeah,
- 1:54:24Speaker 6: it's like you don't have any ties to these.
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: They're barely even people anymore. This is just what happens.
- 1:54:31Speaker 4: This is what I do. I've been doing this for millennia.
- 1:54:34Speaker 4: This is what it is. Immortus of those Kangs is
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: probably the most dangerous because of how he carries himself,
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: how he thinks of himself for that period of time,
- 1:54:44Speaker 4: how long he's been doing things. And then his modus
- 1:54:47Speaker 4: operandi at that point, because he's far more powerful as
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: Immortus than he is in the others.
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: So that's the most dangerous one. Now, whether or not
- 1:54:55Speaker 4: that's still the case or if that's just this is
- 1:54:58Speaker 4: a different variation of Kang.
- 1:55:00Speaker 6: So everyone in the Coliseum there at the end is
- 1:55:04Speaker 6: all from different time periods.
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: They're not just like cloning. No, they're not clones.
- 1:55:08Speaker 6: These are different time periods.
- 1:55:10Speaker 4: Different time periods, different variations. That's kind of what I thought,
- 1:55:13Speaker 4: but I'm like, you never really know at this point.
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: Because it's kind of like we get a little bit
- 1:55:16Speaker 4: of that mirroring when basically, you know, Scott's trying to like,
- 1:55:20Speaker 4: you know, shrink the power core and you get like
- 1:55:22Speaker 4: all the multiple versions of it. That's kind of what
- 1:55:25Speaker 4: we're seeing in there. But at least those Kangs are
- 1:55:29Speaker 4: aware of the fact that they are a different variation
- 1:55:32Speaker 4: of things because they're They've served the time stream. They
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: just go and live their own life, more or less.
- 1:55:38Speaker 4: An interesting thing, though, is that basically we're seeing all
- 1:55:40Speaker 4: the people, you know, they see that last shot of
- 1:55:42Speaker 4: all the, you know, arena full of Kangs all being,
- 1:55:47Speaker 4: you know, kind of very excited about being there and whatnot.
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: There's one Kang that was a Skrull.
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: That we can tell or that.
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: It's going to appear later? No, literally. There's two green-faced guys.
- 1:56:01Speaker 4: One's got this very lizard-y looking thing. It looks kind
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: of like an alien from the Sigourney Weaver movies, but green.
- 1:56:09Speaker 4: That was a Kang. But then we see up in
- 1:56:11Speaker 4: the back row, the last shot of the dude. He
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: has a screaming line, but he has a line. That
- 1:56:18Speaker 4: fucking Kang was a Skrull. Yeah. So, and our next
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: movie we're dealing with, or.
- 1:56:24Speaker 6: Next series is Secret Invasion.
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: Oh, these Skrulls.
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: It's a good thing we won't hear anything else about
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: them anymore.
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: Yeah, except for Secret Invasion. So, yeah. So, I'm curious there.
- 1:56:35Speaker 4: Some interesting little Easter eggs. We're going to have to
- 1:56:37Speaker 4: kind of get to them. The second scene, the, you know,
- 1:56:42Speaker 4: basically the Kang kind of giving the presentation about time.
- 1:56:45Speaker 4: The sign labels that person's name as Victor Timely. Victor Timely.
- 1:56:51Speaker 4: If you remember back in the original Captain America, where
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: they're doing, like, a World's Fair thing, and where they're
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: trying to, they're talking about when they first experimented with
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: the super soldier stuff. Yeah. And they show the one
- 1:57:03Speaker 4: dude who basically is, like, giving a presentation. There's a
- 1:57:05Speaker 4: guy on fire inside of a bottle. That's the original
- 1:57:09Speaker 4: Human Torch from the 40s. Not the Johnny Storm Fantastic
- 1:57:12Speaker 4: Four guy. The android guy who's basically, you know, had
- 1:57:16Speaker 4: Human Torch-like powers, why not? Fought in World War II,
- 1:57:19Speaker 4: fought alongside Captain America.
- 1:57:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:57:20Speaker 4: But he was created by two guys, Phineas Horton and
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: Victor Timely.
- 1:57:27Speaker 6: Hmm.
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: Yeah, how much are they actually going to do with that? Yeah,
- 1:57:34Speaker 4: is there any lead in that? Or is that just
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: kind of thrown in? Because there was another thing that
- 1:57:39Speaker 4: was also thrown in, too. The whole big scene with
- 1:57:42Speaker 4: the big action scene, the revolt, and the bridge gets
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: shut down. And they're trying to get the bridge back open.
- 1:57:47Speaker 4: And so basically they extract the code. The bridge code
- 1:57:50Speaker 4: was 18147?
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: No.
- 1:57:51Speaker 4: All right. That was thrown in for all of us
- 1:57:55Speaker 4: issue nerds.
- 1:57:56Speaker 6: I was going to say, what issue number was that?
- 1:57:59Speaker 6: Because they love to do.
- 1:58:00Speaker 4: That in these movies. 181 was the first issue of
- 1:58:03Speaker 4: Avengers where Scott Lang is introduced. Alright. 47 of Marvel
- 1:58:09Speaker 4: Premiere was the first issue where Ant-Man was introduced. So
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: there you go. Extra little geek time. Little geekness thrown
- 1:58:17Speaker 4: in there, yeah. Mm-hmm. So yeah, like I said, the
- 1:58:20Speaker 4: whole Victor Timely thing, and the thing too is like,
- 1:58:23Speaker 4: Timely Comics was what Marvel Comics was called before it
- 1:58:26Speaker 4: was called Marvel Comics. And its logo was a shield
- 1:58:32Speaker 4: kind of logo. That sign that said Victor Timely was
- 1:58:36Speaker 4: a shield sort of logo, very similar. So I was like,
- 1:58:39Speaker 4: whether or not that means anything, or they just threw
- 1:58:42Speaker 4: that shit in just to throw that shit in. But yeah.
- 1:58:45Speaker 6: Yeah. There's a lot of deep dives for Marvel people, so,
- 1:58:48Speaker 6: you know, you gotta work those in somewhere. But yeah,
- 1:58:51Speaker 6: then they have to decide, oh yeah, are we gonna
- 1:58:53Speaker 6: do something with this?
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: Yeah, so they threw in a lot of stuff in there.
- 1:58:57Speaker 4: But yeah, so just, I guess the next time we'll
- 1:58:59Speaker 4: definitely see Kang. I'd love to. We don't get, like,
- 1:59:02Speaker 4: you know, most of the time we get the endings
- 1:59:04Speaker 4: of these movies and we'll get, you know, Captain America
- 1:59:06Speaker 4: will return or Thor will return. We didn't get an
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: Ant-Man will return. We get Kang.
- 1:59:12Speaker 6: Kang is coming back.
- 1:59:13Speaker 4: Don't you worry.
- 1:59:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:59:14Speaker 4: Yeah. We're going to see a whole lot more of
- 1:59:16Speaker 4: this guy. Most definitely. Yeah. So I'm very excited where
- 1:59:20Speaker 4: this is all going to lead because, you know, they're
- 1:59:23Speaker 4: following some stuff in the books, but they could definitely
- 1:59:24Speaker 4: take a lot of liberties and a lot of changes
- 1:59:27Speaker 4: of things. But, I mean, this guy's going to be
- 1:59:29Speaker 4: ruling the world here in a little bit. Yeah. I
- 1:59:32Speaker 4: wasn't sure.
- 1:59:33Speaker 6: What to think going into this one. And as I said,
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: once we get to the introduction of Kang, it also
- 1:59:40Speaker 6: just gets to be fun from a big crazy action
- 1:59:43Speaker 6: movie kind of thing. All of the whole setup with
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: him as he's sort of still snowing them and pretending
- 1:59:52Speaker 6: to be someone else until we get to the full-on
- 1:59:56Speaker 6: reveal from Michelle Pfeiffer. And then once we know for sure,
- 1:59:59Speaker 6: then he just becomes full-on villain. And then the big
- 2:00:02Speaker 6: battles in the end are really fun. So, yeah, that
- 2:00:05Speaker 6: whole last two-thirds is just so much fun that, yeah,
- 2:00:09Speaker 6: I ended up really liking this more than.
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: I even expected going into it. Yeah. That's kind of
- 2:00:15Speaker 4: the thing I had the suspicions about, that this was
- 2:00:17Speaker 4: going to be a much bigger film. because of, you know,
- 2:00:22Speaker 4: we're going into an entirely different section of the Marvel universe,
- 2:00:24Speaker 4: the quantum realm. So we get a whole new area
- 2:00:27Speaker 4: of discovery, you know, which I like those aspects. We
- 2:00:30Speaker 4: get like new realms, new worlds, new things to discover
- 2:00:33Speaker 4: because there are so, I mean, we've still got tons
- 2:00:37Speaker 4: more shit to get into, you know, the guardians, we're
- 2:00:40Speaker 4: going to be getting this guardians three. We're going to
- 2:00:41Speaker 4: be getting some other stuff on that road. The movies too.
- 2:00:44Speaker 6: So get that trailer. Yeah. The new trailer, the new trailer.
- 2:00:47Speaker 4: That's a lot of stuff.
- 2:00:48Speaker 6: Yeah. I, I, I'm looking forward to that just because
- 2:00:51Speaker 6: I always like what they do with most of the
- 2:00:54Speaker 6: Guardians run anyway. But yeah, they definitely have a lot
- 2:00:58Speaker 6: of new area to cover in that one.
- 2:01:00Speaker 4: And I warned my wife. I said, yeah, Guardians 3,
- 2:01:02Speaker 4: bring the tissues.
- 2:01:04Speaker 6: We're killing off some of these, if not a lot
- 2:01:07Speaker 6: of these people.
- 2:01:07Speaker 4: Well, I mean, this thing is, you know, this is
- 2:01:09Speaker 4: the last run for this crew. If we do more
- 2:01:12Speaker 4: Guardians movies down the road, there will be different members.
- 2:01:16Speaker 4: You know, and there's, of course, there's a lot of
- 2:01:18Speaker 4: speculation that basically, you know, Gunn's going to take some
- 2:01:20Speaker 4: of his buddies over to D.C. with him. So we
- 2:01:22Speaker 4: may see Chris Pratt playing a superhero for an entirely
- 2:01:25Speaker 4: different company.
- 2:01:26Speaker 6: He can go. I'm fine with that.
- 2:01:27Speaker 4: Yeah, that's fine.
- 2:01:28Speaker 6: I've soured on him a lot over the years. And again,
- 2:01:32Speaker 6: mostly real world stuff. I'm like, just another one that
- 2:01:34Speaker 6: I'm just like, shh, just don't talk about your life.
- 2:01:36Speaker 8: I know.
- 2:01:37Speaker 6: Just don't talk about your life. Just be that dumb
- 2:01:39Speaker 6: guy on screen. He's entertaining still on screen, but.
- 2:01:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I just stick with just watching him in Guardians
- 2:01:45Speaker 4: and then Parks and Recreation. I'm not a big Jurassic
- 2:01:48Speaker 4: Park fan.
- 2:01:49Speaker 6: I'm okay with them fighting dinosaurs, but again, that movie's
- 2:01:52Speaker 6: not good. But there's action scenes that are really good
- 2:01:56Speaker 6: in it, so I'll watch them fight a dinosaur.
- 2:01:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I haven't seen the new one yet.
- 2:02:01Speaker 6: It's not great. It's way too many things going on
- 2:02:05Speaker 6: at the same time. There's no reason for several of
- 2:02:10Speaker 6: those plot lines to be there.
- 2:02:11Speaker 4: Of course not. It's too much. Well, I mean, I...
- 2:02:15Speaker 4: Growing up as a kid, I never was a huge, like,
- 2:02:17Speaker 4: dinosaur kid.
- 2:02:18Speaker 6: I think they revoke your kid status at that point.
- 2:02:21Speaker 4: Well, I mean, I was, I got into, like, mythology
- 2:02:25Speaker 4: and stuff like that, so it's like, you know, in
- 2:02:27Speaker 4: D & D, so it's like, well, fuck a trancetops,
- 2:02:29Speaker 4: I would much rather, you know, deal with, like, a dragon, or,
- 2:02:32Speaker 4: you know. I guess. They're just the real world dinosaurs.
- 2:02:35Speaker 6: You know, a griffin or some shit, you know. Right.
- 2:02:38Speaker 4: Give me a centaur any day. I was dealing with
- 2:02:41Speaker 4: mythical monsters as opposed to real world shit. Shocking, right?
- 2:02:46Speaker 4: Affording real world topics? Who would have thought that?
- 2:02:49Speaker 6: That's when I'm always amazed that it still holds up.
- 2:02:52Speaker 6: Because I know the little kids I see now and
- 2:02:55Speaker 6: they're still like, yeah, dinosaurs! Still playing with the same
- 2:02:58Speaker 6: plastic dinosaurs I was a hundred years ago. And I'm like,
- 2:03:01Speaker 6: you know, dinosaurs. It just doesn't go away.
- 2:03:04Speaker 4: It's still.
- 2:03:05Speaker 6: it's funny even when they're young enough crosses over that
- 2:03:08Speaker 6: even girls are like yes dinosaurs like later they mostly
- 2:03:11Speaker 6: steer clear of it and we're like okay barbies are
- 2:03:13Speaker 6: cool or whatever but it's interesting how connected every.
- 2:03:17Speaker 4: Kid seems to be to dinosaurs yeah i mean grant
- 2:03:19Speaker 4: me you know it's not like i hate dinosaurs or
- 2:03:21Speaker 4: anything like that you know you know stegosaurus is you
- 2:03:24Speaker 4: know my personal favorite or triceratops but you know from
- 2:03:27Speaker 4: but for the most part though it's like I was like, yeah,
- 2:03:29Speaker 4: those are cool, but here's Godzilla over here. Or here's Tiamat,
- 2:03:33Speaker 4: the seven-headed dragon. I was like, I'd much rather deal
- 2:03:37Speaker 4: with that sort of stuff, because those are cooler. It's like, yeah,
- 2:03:40Speaker 4: those are nice, but a meteor took them out. They're pussies.
- 2:03:43Speaker 6: Speaking of which, we had Kaiju Ant-Man this time around.
- 2:03:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:03:49Speaker 6: I've said it every Ant-Man movie, and probably every one
- 2:03:52Speaker 6: he's in. I'm like, what a weird powers to call
- 2:03:55Speaker 6: him Ant-Man... Even though most of the time his go-to
- 2:03:59Speaker 6: move is to get giant. Especially in these Marvel movies.
- 2:04:03Speaker 6: Every movie he grows giant. And now so does the daughter.
- 2:04:08Speaker 6: At least, again, give her a new name.
- 2:04:10Speaker 4: Because she's not Ant-Man. She's not Tiny. Yeah, that's what
- 2:04:13Speaker 4: I said. Stature. That's the name she chooses. Kaiju Ant-Man.
- 2:04:17Speaker 4: But it's interesting, though, that they changed her costume. Because
- 2:04:19Speaker 4: in the comics, she sports a little bit of her
- 2:04:22Speaker 4: dad's colors. It's a little more.
- 2:04:25Speaker 4: Passing the torch kind of. No, it's basically like the
- 2:04:27Speaker 4: color scheme is definitely heavy on the red, like red
- 2:04:30Speaker 4: and silver with a tiny bit of black, whereas his
- 2:04:33Speaker 4: suit is like red and black and a little bit
- 2:04:35Speaker 4: of silver. So, you know, complimentary colors sort of thing.
- 2:04:38Speaker 6: Purple's way cooler.
- 2:04:39Speaker 4: Yeah, they gave her purple. I'm going with purple.
- 2:04:41Speaker 6: That's what I'm going with when I make my super suit.
- 2:04:43Speaker 4: Yeah, we don't have enough purple themed superheroes.
- 2:04:46Speaker 6: But yeah, I just noticed we got a lot of
- 2:04:48Speaker 6: giant Ant-Man. Which is fun, don't get me wrong, but.
- 2:04:52Speaker 4: It's, I'm like, That's not what ants are like at all. Well, see,
- 2:04:56Speaker 4: here's the funny thing is that basically in the books,
- 2:04:59Speaker 4: Hank Pym has five or six different personas that he's
- 2:05:06Speaker 4: had over the years. Start with Ant-Man.
- 2:05:08Speaker 6: This is why he just needs to be Pym-Man.
- 2:05:10Speaker 4: No, no, right.
- 2:05:11Speaker 6: Because the Pym is like the go-to now. I mean,
- 2:05:13Speaker 6: that's kind of almost as gotten as huge as Stark
- 2:05:16Speaker 6: Industries now. He's worked him in so many movies. He's
- 2:05:20Speaker 6: getting to be kind of a big deal.
- 2:05:22Speaker 4: Well, it's funny you should say that you don't call
- 2:05:24Speaker 4: him Pym-Man. So we start with Ant-Man, and then we
- 2:05:27Speaker 4: go Giant-Man, then Goliath, then Yellowjacket. So yeah, he had
- 2:05:33Speaker 4: that yellow... The Yellowjacket was his weird period where basically
- 2:05:35Speaker 4: he has like a He kind of snaps and goes
- 2:05:38Speaker 4: crazy and goes into spousal abuse. Cool. A very dark
- 2:05:45Speaker 4: period for Hank. Not cool, Hank. Yeah, they did it
- 2:05:47Speaker 4: to him in the 70s and they kind of, it
- 2:05:49Speaker 4: didn't go away in the 80s, but it's kind of
- 2:05:52Speaker 4: haunted him for the rest of his career. Yeah, there
- 2:05:55Speaker 4: was that part of time where you went crazy and
- 2:05:58Speaker 4: had a whole different persona where you were kind of like,
- 2:06:00Speaker 4: you know. He was basically Mr. Perfect Superhero, but he
- 2:06:03Speaker 4: was also like an asshole and then beat his wife.
- 2:06:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:06:07Speaker 4: So, yeah.
- 2:06:08Speaker 6: He's not cool.
- 2:06:09Speaker 4: Yeah. But yeah, so he's out of the others. Giant Man, Goliath,
- 2:06:13Speaker 4: Yellow Jacket. And then later, finally in the 80s, he
- 2:06:15Speaker 4: just goes by Hank Pym. And that was it.
- 2:06:18Speaker 6: Pym Man.
- 2:06:19Speaker 4: Yeah, still does all that stuff. But then Ant-Man has
- 2:06:21Speaker 4: always been Ant-Man. But that was kind of the thing.
- 2:06:22Speaker 4: It's basically like. In his discovery of Hank Pym's discovery
- 2:06:26Speaker 4: of his own abilities and his science, it's like, okay, well,
- 2:06:28Speaker 4: first I'm shrinking things. Oh, now I can make things grow.
- 2:06:31Speaker 4: So then I just go back and forth. Again, but
- 2:06:34Speaker 4: why would you settle on one?
- 2:06:36Speaker 6: I don't know. And then the ant tie in. I'm like, well,
- 2:06:39Speaker 6: it seems like that's a whole different skill set.
- 2:06:41Speaker 4: I can talk to ants. That should be my thing.
- 2:06:44Speaker 4: Oh wait, but I also get giant sometimes? I don't know.
- 2:06:46Speaker 4: It's a lot of weird stuff.
- 2:06:47Speaker 6: I'll let it slide because I like these movies.
- 2:06:50Speaker 4: And the Ant-Man, talking to Ant-Communication, that only carries over
- 2:06:54Speaker 4: when he's in the Ant-Man stuff. So when he's Goliath
- 2:06:56Speaker 4: and Giant-Man and whatever else, the ants aren't there.
- 2:07:01Speaker 6: I'm getting big.
- 2:07:01Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. It's so unfocused as superhero powers go.
- 2:07:06Speaker 4: But again, I'm fine with it. Most of the time
- 2:07:09Speaker 4: he was basically, occasionally he would do some science-y stuff
- 2:07:12Speaker 4: or talk about science stuff. But for the most part,
- 2:07:14Speaker 4: it's like, okay, well, if we don't have Hulk or
- 2:07:16Speaker 4: Thor in this issue of Avengers, we need a Heavy.
- 2:07:19Speaker 4: Giant man! Mm-hmm.
- 2:07:22Speaker 6: While we were on the Giant, Cassie gets used to
- 2:07:26Speaker 6: Giant real quick.
- 2:07:27Speaker 4: She does.
- 2:07:28Speaker 6: Because that's the focus of the several times he gets big,
- 2:07:33Speaker 6: is that he just immediately passes out. And even Hank
- 2:07:37Speaker 6: says that when he was doing it. So it's interesting that, like,
- 2:07:40Speaker 6: She just kind of goes with it. And eventually we
- 2:07:42Speaker 6: get that last second moment of her collapsing. But I
- 2:07:45Speaker 6: was like, she's rolling with it pretty good. So she's
- 2:07:48Speaker 6: got you beat, Dad.
- 2:07:49Speaker 4: And I think it has youth to do with that.
- 2:07:52Speaker 4: Maybe so. Hank was doing it later in his career.
- 2:07:56Speaker 4: And then you know Scott has pretty much proven like
- 2:07:59Speaker 4: he's not an athlete or anything like that so but
- 2:08:02Speaker 4: yeah just the whole you know call back to needing
- 2:08:05Speaker 4: citrus you know it's like do they ever get any
- 2:08:07Speaker 4: orange slices.
- 2:08:07Speaker 6: Oh well I guess that's most of the goings.
- 2:08:14Speaker 4: On yeah I think we've covered all the bases.
- 2:08:16Speaker 6: Any final thoughts on this one I mean we know
- 2:08:19Speaker 6: we're headed to Towards a lot of crazy big bad stuff.
- 2:08:23Speaker 4: Yeah. That's kind of the unusual thing is that we
- 2:08:25Speaker 4: know movie-wise. Let's see. Our next movie is Guardians in May. Yeah.
- 2:08:32Speaker 4: And then it was going to be the Marvels, and
- 2:08:34Speaker 4: now that's in November. So basically May is our next movie,
- 2:08:38Speaker 4: but not going to be dealing with any of the
- 2:08:40Speaker 4: Kang stuff. So really like low-key. Season 2 of Loki
- 2:08:43Speaker 4: will be the next time, but God knows when that's
- 2:08:45Speaker 4: coming out.
- 2:08:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought that was pretty soon, but now everything's
- 2:08:48Speaker 6: a mystery. Time-wise, we all know it's coming, but we
- 2:08:52Speaker 6: don't know when on any of them, really.
- 2:08:54Speaker 4: I think it's kind of unusual, because Disney has been
- 2:08:56Speaker 4: complaining about low streaming numbers, or their ratings are down
- 2:09:00Speaker 4: for certain things, or whatever else. It's like, yeah, maybe
- 2:09:03Speaker 4: you need to roll some shit out.
- 2:09:04Speaker 6: I mean, it has been a while on the Marvel
- 2:09:07Speaker 6: for a full series, and then even... quite a lull
- 2:09:11Speaker 6: for i mean they were knocking out a couple of
- 2:09:13Speaker 6: star wars in a row but it's like we're finally
- 2:09:15Speaker 6: getting back to mandalorian so it's like it took them
- 2:09:18Speaker 6: a little while on that one too because for a
- 2:09:20Speaker 6: while it was one after the other like it was
- 2:09:22Speaker 6: back to back in fact some of it i wouldn't
- 2:09:24Speaker 6: finish one series without the next one starting there was
- 2:09:27Speaker 6: like a two-week crossover sometimes of like the last marvel
- 2:09:30Speaker 6: the next star wars whereas now we've had several months
- 2:09:33Speaker 6: of nothing so yeah.
- 2:09:35Speaker 4: So i think this year we also get the ahsoka
- 2:09:38Speaker 4: tana series too i think so yeah Yeah, so we've
- 2:09:41Speaker 4: got some Star Wars stuff coming. It's so unusual, though,
- 2:09:44Speaker 4: that we're getting all the streaming stuff of Star Wars,
- 2:09:46Speaker 4: but we haven't got a film since Episode 8. I know.
- 2:09:49Speaker 6: And there's nothing down the pike. They at one point
- 2:09:53Speaker 6: had a Rogue Squadron or something like that. And they
- 2:09:56Speaker 6: scrapped that. And then it could be back.
- 2:09:58Speaker 4: But now it's like.
- 2:09:59Speaker 6: Indefinitely back, maybe down the line. We don't know.
- 2:10:02Speaker 4: It's back. It's not with Patty Jenkins.
- 2:10:04Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:10:04Speaker 4: It's like everything's been pushed off indefinitely.
- 2:10:07Speaker 6: So they just got... I mean, the one-two punch on
- 2:10:10Speaker 6: those last movies.
- 2:10:11Speaker 4: Well, all three, really.
- 2:10:13Speaker 6: I mean, they had so much backlash from Last Jedi
- 2:10:17Speaker 6: to then.
- 2:10:19Speaker 4: turn around and.
- 2:10:20Speaker 6: Immediately throw Solo out there and nobody knew what the
- 2:10:22Speaker 6: hell to do with Solo. And then let's quick fix
- 2:10:25Speaker 6: everything and do the last one. And everybody got rubbed
- 2:10:28Speaker 6: the wrong way on that too. So they just had
- 2:10:31Speaker 6: three misfires kind of in a row. And they're just like,
- 2:10:36Speaker 6: you know what? People love this Mandalorian thing. Let's just
- 2:10:39Speaker 6: stick with the series. I think it's just safe. It's
- 2:10:42Speaker 6: also a little less investment because now they're doing it
- 2:10:44Speaker 6: all on the big giant screen. So there's way less
- 2:10:47Speaker 6: money involved compared to those full on movies. So yeah, I.
- 2:10:51Speaker 4: Think they're just playing it safe now. I mean, they
- 2:10:52Speaker 4: may be saving a little bit of money, you know,
- 2:10:55Speaker 4: cause it's not a, you know, you know, we're not
- 2:10:57Speaker 4: dealing with a two and a half to, you know, possibly,
- 2:11:01Speaker 4: you know, like a two and a half hour movie.
- 2:11:03Speaker 4: We're now dealing with basically a six hour series. It's
- 2:11:06Speaker 4: six to eight hours depending on what they do.
- 2:11:08Speaker 6: But at the same time, half of it, especially like
- 2:11:11Speaker 6: the stuff they were showing behind the scenes on Mandalorian,
- 2:11:13Speaker 6: like they weren't even building most of the sets. Like
- 2:11:16Speaker 6: it was all on the screen. So I'm like, Basically,
- 2:11:19Speaker 6: once you hire your actors and you get some good
- 2:11:21Speaker 6: costumes put together, you're set. Like, you don't have to
- 2:11:24Speaker 6: invest near as much on that stuff once you've got
- 2:11:27Speaker 6: that screen. So it's got to be massively cheaper because
- 2:11:31Speaker 6: they were still building huge sets and tons of props.
- 2:11:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:11:35Speaker 6: I don't know. I think it's just so much cheaper
- 2:11:39Speaker 6: to do it series-wise. I mean, even the ones they
- 2:11:43Speaker 6: did some stuff. Like, Kenobi, they did, like, some real
- 2:11:47Speaker 6: world and went and shot in a desert somewhere. Yeah.
- 2:11:49Speaker 6: I think.
- 2:11:50Speaker 4: They did, yeah.
- 2:11:50Speaker 6: But, again, that's a pretty low-tech one. You know, it's
- 2:11:54Speaker 6: like deserts and roads, and that's all you need.
- 2:11:56Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just true, yeah.
- 2:11:57Speaker 6: Yeah, so I think they're just scaling it back and
- 2:12:00Speaker 6: maybe reforming. Figure out what the hell they're going to
- 2:12:03Speaker 6: do next as far as movies. Because they can't be done,
- 2:12:06Speaker 6: but I think it just scared the hell out of them.
- 2:12:08Speaker 6: They're just like, oh, we thought we had Star Wars
- 2:12:10Speaker 6: fans forever. You know, we thought we could do anything,
- 2:12:13Speaker 6: and they'd back us. But that's not the case.
- 2:12:17Speaker 4: Yeah. I think it basically, you had a fan base
- 2:12:21Speaker 4: that was ready for some new stuff, but half that
- 2:12:24Speaker 4: audience was tentative because basically we had the three prequels
- 2:12:28Speaker 4: that Lucas put out, which, you know, there are generations of,
- 2:12:32Speaker 4: you know, fans who, though it's their Star Wars, that's
- 2:12:35Speaker 4: something they grew up on. Mm-hmm.
- 2:12:36Speaker 6: Like I said earlier, like it comes back around and like,
- 2:12:39Speaker 6: now that's a go-to for some people. So it's like
- 2:12:42Speaker 6: the kids grew up and like, not only do you
- 2:12:44Speaker 6: have to mention the prequels, but like Kenobi is a
- 2:12:48Speaker 6: whole tie in. Like everything that goes on is a
- 2:12:50Speaker 6: hundred percent, even to the point of bringing back Hayden,
- 2:12:53Speaker 6: you know, it's like they totally embrace the fact that
- 2:12:56Speaker 6: like some people like these, these were yours as his kid.
- 2:12:59Speaker 6: And now you're a grownup and you want to see
- 2:13:01Speaker 6: more with that. So they have to kind of fully
- 2:13:04Speaker 6: commit to it to some extent.
- 2:13:06Speaker 4: And as me, I basically am on the opposite camp.
- 2:13:11Speaker 4: I did not like that. I could basically take parts
- 2:13:15Speaker 4: from all three movies and make one really good Star
- 2:13:17Speaker 4: Wars movie out of that. And most of it's the
- 2:13:19Speaker 4: third movie. Yeah, most of it. I enjoyed the second
- 2:13:22Speaker 4: one more than most.
- 2:13:23Speaker 6: I think that second half is way more pulpy. It
- 2:13:27Speaker 6: is just a John Carter movie.
- 2:13:30Speaker 4: I'm fine with that.
- 2:13:31Speaker 6: And you threw some lightsabers in there. So, I mean,
- 2:13:33Speaker 6: there's no downside to that for me. Now, is it
- 2:13:35Speaker 6: a great movie?
- 2:13:36Speaker 2: No.
- 2:13:36Speaker 6: But is it fun?
- 2:13:37Speaker 4: Yeah, that last half's pretty fun. But it's interesting to
- 2:13:40Speaker 4: me how you could basically start to take the potential
- 2:13:43Speaker 4: from that second movie and then basically launch an entire
- 2:13:46Speaker 4: series that is far better than three movies.
- 2:13:50Speaker 6: Which, I mean, yeah, most people will go to animated
- 2:13:53Speaker 6: clone stuff and that's their canon more so than.
- 2:13:58Speaker 4: Worried about what happened in the prequels. And that's the
- 2:14:00Speaker 4: thing is that a lot of the people who are
- 2:14:03Speaker 4: fans of the prequels will agree with that and say, okay, yeah,
- 2:14:07Speaker 4: there's things we enjoy about the three movies, but really
- 2:14:10Speaker 4: the Clone Wars series is where it's at. Or they
- 2:14:11Speaker 4: just include it all.
- 2:14:12Speaker 6: Like, well, this is a continuation of that, so this
- 2:14:15Speaker 6: is equally as much part of the story as the
- 2:14:17Speaker 6: movies were.
- 2:14:18Speaker 8: So I'm like, yeah.
- 2:14:19Speaker 4: And that's the thing is, of course, they had a
- 2:14:21Speaker 4: Clone Wars animated film that was very much for kids,
- 2:14:24Speaker 4: which I would recommend just not watching unless you're a child.
- 2:14:28Speaker 4: The first couple of seasons of Clone Wars is still
- 2:14:30Speaker 4: definitely made for kids. But basically when you start getting
- 2:14:33Speaker 4: around season three and definitely in four, shit changes. It's
- 2:14:39Speaker 4: a different show. It grows up. And then the seventh
- 2:14:42Speaker 4: final season, I mean, when you get to those episodes,
- 2:14:46Speaker 4: especially when you get to like the last four episodes...
- 2:14:50Speaker 4: if you haven't watched the final season of Clone Wars,
- 2:14:53Speaker 4: binge all four episodes together.
- 2:14:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:14:56Speaker 4: Because that is probably one of the greatest Star Wars,
- 2:15:00Speaker 4: it's not a film, but it might as well kind
- 2:15:03Speaker 4: of is. Because it's extremely cinematic. Like, the whole last
- 2:15:08Speaker 4: season is very good, but those last four episodes, I mean,
- 2:15:11Speaker 4: everybody that's seen those will tell you it's those four
- 2:15:15Speaker 4: that just, like, Jesus, this is better than what Lucas
- 2:15:19Speaker 4: shit out.
- 2:15:19Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:15:21Speaker 4: So, but yeah. And the Rebels series was very much
- 2:15:24Speaker 4: similar to that. I watched a good.
- 2:15:25Speaker 6: Amount of Rebels, and it was really, I thought, really
- 2:15:27Speaker 6: well done.
- 2:15:28Speaker 4: Yeah, and another series that it was, you know, it's
- 2:15:30Speaker 4: definitely for kids, but it grew up. So by the
- 2:15:32Speaker 4: time you get to season five and six, and the
- 2:15:34Speaker 4: series ends, it's a grown-up series.
- 2:15:37Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 2:15:37Speaker 4: So that's the thing. There's just, you know, it's kind
- 2:15:41Speaker 4: of this funny thing now where it's like it was
- 2:15:43Speaker 4: seen as like Marvel doesn't do TV well, but they
- 2:15:45Speaker 4: do the movies really well. And DC does TV well,
- 2:15:48Speaker 4: but they don't do the movies well. Star Wars is
- 2:15:51Speaker 4: now getting in that camp.
- 2:15:51Speaker 6: They do great TV. They used to be known for films.
- 2:15:55Speaker 6: Now they don't even put out films anymore.
- 2:15:58Speaker 4: So it's a weird world. It is a very, very
- 2:16:01Speaker 4: real world. At least we got John Wick 4 coming out.
- 2:16:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I got that one too.
- 2:16:06Speaker 4: So that's that. I can't not love it. I mean,
- 2:16:10Speaker 4: just watching.
- 2:16:11Speaker 6: Just that thing that Keanu does that for a while.
- 2:16:16Speaker 6: It's so funny watching it, talking about things changing and
- 2:16:18Speaker 6: growing up. Like the thing that was a joke 20
- 2:16:21Speaker 6: years ago, now he can do kind of the same thing.
- 2:16:24Speaker 6: And you're like, yes, there it is. Like there's just
- 2:16:27Speaker 6: the way that he delivers stuff. That has become so
- 2:16:30Speaker 6: signature Keanu in general. But just because this is such
- 2:16:35Speaker 6: a huge part of who he is now, it's like,
- 2:16:37Speaker 6: it's John Wick. And, like, that's what we need is
- 2:16:40Speaker 6: Keanu to show up and be Keanu and kick people's ass.
- 2:16:43Speaker 4: So, yeah, that trailer looked really fun. Yeah. And it's
- 2:16:46Speaker 4: so funny to kind of think, like, you know, his
- 2:16:49Speaker 4: first foray getting into action stuff was Speed. And we're like, oh, great,
- 2:16:52Speaker 4: Ted's going to do an action movie. I like Speed.
- 2:16:55Speaker 4: I liked it at the time.
- 2:16:57Speaker 6: I've come to, like, really respect how.
- 2:17:00Speaker 4: Well executed that is as an action movie. To me,
- 2:17:04Speaker 4: that is a great one-time movie. Yeah. That movie is
- 2:17:08Speaker 4: tremendous the first time you see it. It loses everything
- 2:17:12Speaker 4: upon additional views.
- 2:17:13Speaker 6: And then the, I mean, Keanu is just there to
- 2:17:16Speaker 6: be there, but all the other performances, like, Dennis Hopper
- 2:17:20Speaker 6: is amazing. Like, as he always, especially at that era
- 2:17:23Speaker 6: of his career, he was just phenomenal. And had no
- 2:17:26Speaker 6: problem chewing the scenery and was great at it. And
- 2:17:30Speaker 6: then there's a reason the whole world fell in love
- 2:17:32Speaker 6: with Sandra Bullock.
- 2:17:32Speaker 4: It's in that movie.
- 2:17:33Speaker 6: You're right there going, look, charisma. Like she's just, whatever
- 2:17:37Speaker 6: Keanu's not doing, he's just kind of hanging out there
- 2:17:40Speaker 6: and jumping on a bus. But like Sandra Bullock is
- 2:17:42Speaker 6: like winning over the entire country in this movie. So
- 2:17:45Speaker 6: I'm like, everybody else showed up and brought their A-game.
- 2:17:48Speaker 4: So it's, I don't know.
- 2:17:50Speaker 6: There's something about that movie that sets it apart from
- 2:17:53Speaker 6: a lot of the other action stuff at the time
- 2:17:55Speaker 6: yeah but i.
- 2:17:55Speaker 4: Think definitely what changed things for him was doing the
- 2:17:58Speaker 4: matrix oh yeah because we see that in the john
- 2:18:01Speaker 4: wick movies that He gets intense in his preparation. Oh, yeah. Like,
- 2:18:06Speaker 4: you know, he knows Kung Fu for real because he
- 2:18:10Speaker 4: literally learned it for three movies and studied it every day.
- 2:18:14Speaker 4: And so has since repeated that when he did John Wick.
- 2:18:17Speaker 4: But even more, like, you see him handle a weapon
- 2:18:22Speaker 4: in the John Wick movies. And it's like, this is
- 2:18:25Speaker 4: a guy who's clearly trained. Like, he handles that weapon
- 2:18:28Speaker 4: like an operator, right?
- 2:18:29Speaker 6: It's just fluid at this point. It is just part
- 2:18:33Speaker 6: of him. No matter what the weapon is, it can
- 2:18:35Speaker 6: be anything.
- 2:18:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:18:36Speaker 6: You get to that last movie, he's just picking stuff
- 2:18:38Speaker 6: up off the set. And, like, it is just immediately
- 2:18:41Speaker 6: just part of him. And he will beat the hell
- 2:18:44Speaker 6: out of anybody in the vicinity.
- 2:18:46Speaker 4: But that's what so buys into the believability of his character. Because, like,
- 2:18:50Speaker 4: there's still elements from, like, you know, he just doesn't
- 2:18:52Speaker 4: look all that menacing and threatening, or he still kind
- 2:18:54Speaker 4: of looks nice, and I still see a little Ted in.
- 2:18:57Speaker 6: There or whatnot. And we all know now he is
- 2:18:59Speaker 6: the nicest dude in the world.
- 2:19:01Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 2:19:01Speaker 6: So, yeah, it's like it's kind of hard to picture
- 2:19:04Speaker 6: him being this badass, except he's so good at it.
- 2:19:06Speaker 4: Yeah, when you see him in action, you're like, oh, shit, okay.
- 2:19:09Speaker 6: He's like, all right. I mean, he'll give you a
- 2:19:13Speaker 6: seat on the bus anyway, but if he wanted to,
- 2:19:15Speaker 6: he could kick your ass.
- 2:19:16Speaker 4: And keep it. Yeah. But I recently got to watch
- 2:19:18Speaker 4: the whole trilogy because my wife realized that she'd never
- 2:19:22Speaker 4: watched any of the films. And so like some of
- 2:19:24Speaker 4: her co-workers were like, oh, yeah, you guys, those are great.
- 2:19:26Speaker 4: You got to check them out. And so she just
- 2:19:28Speaker 4: got a wild hair press. Hey, let's watch John Wick trilogy.
- 2:19:30Speaker 4: And so like over a period of two weeks, we
- 2:19:33Speaker 4: knocked out all three movies.
- 2:19:34Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:19:34Speaker 4: And she enjoyed the hell out of them, was looking
- 2:19:36Speaker 4: forward to part four.
- 2:19:37Speaker 6: Yep. It's an interesting series.
- 2:19:40Speaker 4: Did not see it coming.
- 2:19:41Speaker 1: No.
- 2:19:42Speaker 4: I don't think anybody did. I don't think the studio did.
- 2:19:46Speaker 4: And the lovely thing too is that basically, you know,
- 2:19:48Speaker 4: the success of John Wick also gave us the film Nobody.
- 2:19:51Speaker 4: Because it's done by the same people, but it's like,
- 2:19:54Speaker 4: let's take a, you know, an even different turn of like,
- 2:19:56Speaker 4: here's a guy who definitely doesn't look like a badass
- 2:20:00Speaker 4: action guy of Bob Odenkirk. You know, we know as
- 2:20:03Speaker 4: a comedic actor, you know, but never in anything like this.
- 2:20:08Speaker 6: I mean, I put equally right up there with the
- 2:20:10Speaker 6: John Wick stuff, Atomic Blonde is so impressive. Just from
- 2:20:14Speaker 6: the fighting standpoint.
- 2:20:16Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 2:20:16Speaker 6: Like, watching those fight scenes they're just orchestrated so perfectly
- 2:20:22Speaker 6: that i'm just like yeah i mean you can take
- 2:20:25Speaker 6: keanu out of it and these guys know what the
- 2:20:27Speaker 6: hell they're doing like you can again there's just an
- 2:20:29Speaker 6: art form to making a good fight scene and a
- 2:20:31Speaker 6: good action movie in general and like they've got it
- 2:20:34Speaker 6: down like you know what they're doing.
- 2:20:36Speaker 4: Well and it's the that's the thing i like is
- 2:20:37Speaker 4: of course like in the 90s and the 2000s we
- 2:20:39Speaker 4: saw a lot of influence from hong kong cinema and Oh, yeah.
- 2:20:43Speaker 4: Influencing action films in the States. So that's why everybody's
- 2:20:45Speaker 4: carrying two guns and we're doing all the kind of
- 2:20:47Speaker 4: the John Woo kind of stuff. Now, what we're dealing
- 2:20:51Speaker 4: with is basically influence from Taiwan.
- 2:20:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:20:54Speaker 4: Basically, especially in the Raid movies. Which, the honest thing is,
- 2:20:59Speaker 4: a British filmmaker goes to Taiwan and makes T1E' s martial
- 2:21:04Speaker 4: arts action films. The first one is like a Raid,
- 2:21:09Speaker 4: no pun intended, but a... building raid, you know, last
- 2:21:13Speaker 4: standing kind of thing. And then the second film was
- 2:21:16Speaker 4: basically a Scorsese crime epic that also has a lot
- 2:21:19Speaker 4: of T1Es and, you know, martial arts. But the style
- 2:21:23Speaker 4: is very much kind of like Wushu Kung Fu, where
- 2:21:27Speaker 4: you kind of use everything around you, but it's a
- 2:21:30Speaker 4: lot faster. It's a lot more fluid. It's basically like, okay...
- 2:21:35Speaker 4: I'm going to punch you three times in the face,
- 2:21:37Speaker 4: and then while you're falling down, I'm also going to
- 2:21:39Speaker 4: smash your head into the wall and the floor as well,
- 2:21:42Speaker 4: just to get those extra elements of... you know, punishment
- 2:21:46Speaker 4: in there.
- 2:21:46Speaker 6: A little overkill, perhaps, but, you know, I really want
- 2:21:49Speaker 6: to hit you a lot.
- 2:21:50Speaker 4: Possibly overkill, yes, but it's like, okay, when I'm dealing
- 2:21:53Speaker 4: with a hallway full of dudes, I got to drop
- 2:21:56Speaker 4: this guy as quickly as I possibly can. And instead
- 2:22:00Speaker 4: of just doing the whole Akito, I'm just going to
- 2:22:02Speaker 4: snap your neck in one motion. No, I'm going to
- 2:22:04Speaker 4: hit you five times with five different things.
- 2:22:06Speaker 6: I'm going to pummel you as much as I can first.
- 2:22:09Speaker 4: But, I mean, it's exciting to watch. It's a new
- 2:22:12Speaker 4: way of doing things.
- 2:22:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:22:14Speaker 4: You can kick more than one ass more than one different.
- 2:22:18Speaker 2: Way, I guess.
- 2:22:19Speaker 6: And that, at least in the John Wick form, is
- 2:22:22Speaker 6: also coming our way. So here's all our coming attractions.
- 2:22:25Speaker 6: We've hit all the things coming soon.
- 2:22:29Speaker 4: In every avenue. I don't know about you, but I
- 2:22:31Speaker 4: am terrified, not in the way they want me to be,
- 2:22:34Speaker 4: but terrified about the Exorcist remake coming this year. No
- 2:22:38Speaker 4: trailers yet.
- 2:22:39Speaker 6: We've seen posters. I just heard about it, but I
- 2:22:42Speaker 6: don't know. They just keep Again, they keep trying to
- 2:22:45Speaker 6: return to this thing. I mean, how many sequels have
- 2:22:48Speaker 6: we already had? How many competing sequels have we had?
- 2:22:52Speaker 6: How many? I mean, this is so many times to
- 2:22:55Speaker 6: try to hit that same thing. And I'm like, it
- 2:22:58Speaker 6: really kind of worked once.
- 2:23:00Speaker 4: So like.
- 2:23:01Speaker 6: You keep going back to it.
- 2:23:04Speaker 4: The only sequel that's worth seeing is the third one, Legion.
- 2:23:08Speaker 6: It's made by the guy who knows the most about it.
- 2:23:11Speaker 4: That was his movie.
- 2:23:13Speaker 6: That's the one that he wanted to put together.
- 2:23:15Speaker 4: And then you had the prequel that was remade.
- 2:23:22Speaker 6: There's two versions, right? Yes, there are two versions.
- 2:23:25Speaker 4: But basically, it's almost two entirely different films. They're so different. different,
- 2:23:30Speaker 4: so they might as well be two different movies. So
- 2:23:33Speaker 4: technically you've got four sequels, but now they've just gone
- 2:23:36Speaker 4: and just said, you know what? Let's go and throw
- 2:23:39Speaker 4: the turd in the cinematic punch bowl and remake a
- 2:23:42Speaker 4: fucking classic.
- 2:23:45Speaker 3: No.
- 2:23:45Speaker 4: It doesn't work, people.
- 2:23:48Speaker 6: I was hoping at least they were doing just another
- 2:23:50Speaker 6: weird offshoot sequel, but remake, it's always a question.
- 2:23:54Speaker 4: But here's a weird one, though. They're calling it a remake?
- 2:23:59Speaker 4: But the little girl who gets possessed is not Reagan O'Neill,
- 2:24:07Speaker 4: but Ellen Burstyn is coming back and reprising her role
- 2:24:10Speaker 4: from the original.
- 2:24:11Speaker 6: That's what I thought. That's why I thought it was
- 2:24:13Speaker 6: a weird legacy sequel kind of idea because they brought
- 2:24:17Speaker 6: her back. So I was like, well, this is just
- 2:24:19Speaker 6: another let's return to the property with the original character.
- 2:24:23Speaker 6: But yeah, why you would want.
- 2:24:26Speaker 4: And why we have Ellen Burstyn back but not Linda
- 2:24:28Speaker 4: Blair too. I don't get it. This is not.
- 2:24:32Speaker 4: It's like, I know Linda's available. She's kind of retired
- 2:24:36Speaker 4: from acting for the most part. She's doing a lot
- 2:24:38Speaker 4: of pet rescue and activism and that.
- 2:24:40Speaker 6: Technically, we've got a whole extra movie in there if
- 2:24:42Speaker 6: you count Repossessed.
- 2:24:46Speaker 4: And then you do get Linda Blair.
- 2:24:48Speaker 6: Yes! There you go. That's your takeaway. Go watch Repossessed
- 2:24:52Speaker 6: and you don't.
- 2:24:53Speaker 4: Need this new movie. God, I haven't seen Repossessed in years.
- 2:24:57Speaker 6: I watched that. I saw that in theater, and then
- 2:25:00Speaker 6: I had a copy of it and watched it more
- 2:25:02Speaker 6: than I probably needed to.
- 2:25:04Speaker 4: I didn't see it in theaters, but I definitely rented
- 2:25:05Speaker 4: it when it came out. I'm a sucker for Leslie Nielsen.
- 2:25:10Speaker 6: I mean, it is that era of his ridiculous Leslie Nielsen,
- 2:25:13Speaker 6: and if that's what you're looking for, it delivers, and
- 2:25:17Speaker 6: all the timely references that are Barely funny for people now,
- 2:25:22Speaker 6: if you're not really old, all of the stuff they're
- 2:25:25Speaker 6: referencing is totally gone and not even part of pop
- 2:25:27Speaker 6: culture anymore.
- 2:25:29Speaker 4: Except the worst joke that falls the most flat, because
- 2:25:32Speaker 4: it doesn't make any fucking sense, is that the devil,
- 2:25:35Speaker 4: the thing that gets her out is that he starts
- 2:25:38Speaker 4: performing Devil in a Blue Dress because the devil hates
- 2:25:41Speaker 4: rock and roll. Sure. No, he doesn't!
- 2:25:44Speaker 6: Because rock and roll's cool and the devil's not.
- 2:25:47Speaker 4: But, no, that's... See, they just tricked you with all
- 2:25:49Speaker 4: that metal music.
- 2:25:51Speaker 6: Truth is, the devil hates rock and roll.
- 2:25:53Speaker 4: No, it's the devil's music. That's what makes it so enticing.
- 2:25:58Speaker 6: Yep, everybody's just been wrong all these years.
- 2:26:00Speaker 4: It's the damnedest thing. I refuse to believe that.
- 2:26:06Speaker 6: All right. Well, there's a lot of things for you
- 2:26:08Speaker 6: to go check out after you're done with your Marvel movie.
- 2:26:11Speaker 4: There you go. Lots of exploitation, comedic things there. You know,
- 2:26:16Speaker 4: Star Wars cartoons. Yeah. All kinds of shit. You got
- 2:26:19Speaker 4: a lot of stuff to watch. You got a lot.
- 2:26:20Speaker 6: So get to it. And I'm sure we'll be back
- 2:26:23Speaker 6: with some Guardians talk before long.
- 2:26:25Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. All right.
- 2:26:28Speaker 6: With all that having been said, otherwise that about does it.
- 2:26:31Speaker 4: We will return next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening. Later, folks.
- 2:26:47Speaker 2: Feel like you're flying Higher than any plane.
- 2:26:54Speaker 3: Nobody knows you And everyone knows your name.

- 2:30:27Speaker 6: Quadrophenia. You guys are ready to talk about The Who, right?
- 2:30:31Speaker 4: Well, I could talk about Quadrophenia. Actually, I saw that
- 2:30:35Speaker 4: movie not too long ago. Just for gigs.
- 2:30:39Speaker 6: I kept seeing the title of our actual movie and
- 2:30:43Speaker 6: just going, I don't know. That's an odd way to
- 2:30:47Speaker 6: title your movie.
