- 0:08The athletic. The last time we were going to
- 0:35have some great performances and so we're going to talk about
- 0:39that. But nonetheless, welcome to
- 0:44Athletics LLC, another fun episode of just all things and
- 0:48not things related to track. So the governor, how are you
- 0:51tonight? We are gathering ourselves just
- 0:59got back from New York Sunday and you have Conference next
- 1:06week. Not this weekend, but next week,
- 1:08we're week earlier than everybody.
- 1:12And so final preparations, and yeah, so we're so far so good.
- 1:20Crazy like we're already at that conference time.
- 1:22I know this has been a very very short indoor season, very short,
- 1:28in my opinion. Quiet.
- 1:31How about yourself, sir. How are you today?
- 1:34You know, trying to prepare ourselves to head back down
- 1:37Albuquerque for the Don Kirby this upcoming weekend.
- 1:41That's going to be crazy, right? Always one of the if not, the
- 1:46best West Coast meat of the regular season conference in two
- 1:52weeks and here in beautiful, San Jose, I am managing chaos every
- 1:58day, which is always fun. I keep walking around the
- 2:06hallways Mischief Managed. It's just managed because it
- 2:10just keeps popping back up. Well Mom.
- 2:16Hello. Good people.
- 2:17Hello, how are you today, sir? I'm really good.
- 2:22I'm really good at wasn't convincing whatsoever but go
- 2:27ahead. Oh no, you know, I think I'm
- 2:31sort of deep in thought I'm actually doing really well.
- 2:35Sign a new client That's a new look contact coming out and I
- 2:42think most importantly, the guys are getting ready to head back
- 2:46to their respective homes. To go play baseball
- 2:49professionally and that's a wonderful thing.
- 2:54Well, you can go and hold up that balloon for all of us, so
- 3:02well. Let's go.
- 3:09I mean face first, just Dive Right into track is back because
- 3:13literally so I would like I said I was at Albuquerque last
- 3:18weekend and I promised you I don't like it's happening.
- 3:21It's happening, right. And so what race?
- 3:27It was the prelims of the women 60.
- 3:31And for the first time ever in my, what is this 14 years of
- 3:36coaching? Now, I literally didn't have an
- 3:38athlete to coach actively coach. Like, obviously I'm the cheering
- 3:41on the squatter whatnot. So I told my group who were
- 3:43sitting I'm sitting next to you. I said, you'll need to put your
- 3:46phones down and watch this race because it was Who is in the
- 3:52heat? It was a stacked.
- 3:54Prelim might just watch and the girls really And then my guy
- 4:00pole vaulter, best cooks that was definitely faster than I can
- 4:03run its Lucky it. Sticked pole vaulting sir.
- 4:12I mean listen, Alfred I'm sorry. She is in a class by herself
- 4:21amongst the Collegiates right now.
- 4:22It just is what it is. She is destroying high-quality
- 4:31Fields. I mean, if you take her out of
- 4:33that race it's a high-quality feel, right?
- 4:37And I mean, listen, she's obviously at this point, you
- 4:40know, she's the NCAA record holders.
- 4:41He's the best that we've seen at that race at this level.
- 4:45I mean, She will be professional in not too long and it's your
- 4:5216th right. And this is just, this is just
- 4:56what it is right now. It's really fun to watch and I
- 5:02just appreciate the The the measured aggression of which she
- 5:08run crates, it hasn't always played, you know that well for
- 5:12her Outdoors but indoors and 60, oh my God, like its it is
- 5:17ridiculous. And honestly I really I really
- 5:20can't imagine anyone in the NCAA challenging her this this year.
- 5:25It's it's just a matter of how fast can she go and I don't, I
- 5:30don't imagine she's done because it's not late February, damn,
- 5:34Sure isn't March yet. So I'm just waiting to see what
- 5:37it what it turns out it's me. Well, considering that, I mean,
- 5:45this weekend is Texas at Arkansas or they believe, huh,
- 5:53leave. So I'll check, but I believe,
- 5:55yeah, but She still has to come back to New Mexico.
- 6:05So I mean what do you think about this?
- 6:08She goes. I think that Tech.
- 6:13Yeah. And then you go back down.
- 6:17Yeah, yeah. So yeah, this this is this is
- 6:22going to be, I think, I mean I think she can still go faster.
- 6:26I think she still ironing out. Erasing.
- 6:30And but what I love about it is she is taking her lumps and
- 6:39she's had her ups and downs and she's had, you know, I mean
- 6:43false start all those things. I mean, those are all
- 6:46character-building things that have set her up for this year
- 6:52and you know, injuries, notwithstanding?
- 6:56I mean, as long as she As the course trust.
- 6:59Her coach trust her training. She is going to be a threat this
- 7:04summer. I feel like going to be a threat
- 7:06to summer for sure. And that is going to set up well
- 7:11for for 2024. So once again once again, you
- 7:19know, this is still the greatest great breeding ground for future
- 7:25world, champions Olympians, etc, etc, And you know, I just feel
- 7:31like this. We're just going to see this
- 7:32continue over and over and over again because there's someone is
- 7:36watching Julian right now and is going, you know what my time is
- 7:41coming. You know, you think about the
- 7:43graduating class or well, not graduating class with the folks
- 7:46that started last year that have moved on.
- 7:51It was only right for Julian to step into that place and say,
- 7:53hey this is mine. So I'm excited for her and And I
- 7:58can't wait to see what's who, what we're going to see in the
- 8:01next couple weeks, for sure and there at Tiger Paul according to
- 8:06their schedule this week. Oh okay your Clemson.
- 8:10Okay they're going to the other fast-track.
- 8:14This is only for at this point for as far as the world is
- 8:17concerned right? Like yep.
- 8:22Yeah. My only my only comments about
- 8:28what Miss Alfred has been doing is one.
- 8:30Can we let her sit down for a week at some point and to as
- 8:36fast as she's gonna get her, get her country.
- 8:38Get her a uniform this summer. Oh man.
- 8:41Wow wow. Wow wow, wow.
- 8:44I mean I wish I was I wish I was being petty.
- 8:48I mean the poor young lady had to wear like you know a black
- 8:52off-the-rack uniform at world. A few chips like what are we
- 8:55doing? Like your federation's
- 8:58federation's need to remember that they exist because of the
- 9:01athletes. Not the other way around.
- 9:04Yeah. But yeah, I mean like look that
- 9:08mean that was that was awesome. But you know, look, we can't use
- 9:12the whole hour on track is back. But man, we sure as there's a
- 9:16lot, this is what I loved. I love the irony of Of the New
- 9:24Balance meet because the world record holder in the 400 hurdles
- 9:29ran the 60, the runner-up in the, in the 400 hurdles ran the
- 9:37500 and broke the world record, right?
- 9:41And the world champion and American record holder in the
- 9:44201, the 60 over, what is supposed to be the best starter
- 9:49in the business? I thought, all of that was As
- 9:54much as like, all of that is like this.
- 9:57And then there was Grant. Yes, who like?
- 10:00Yeah. Listen Grant is getting to be
- 10:03indoors like death and taxes. Yeah, right.
- 10:07Like we don't have we don't have Solutions on tonight to give the
- 10:12long long season opening debut of what's grants grade.
- 10:18But I mean we all know I mean it's probably a bee I mean it
- 10:23wasn't one of his better starts. Like I said, it's probably a b
- 10:28but he can run. He can literally run seven 30s.
- 10:31Yes any day. Yeah yeah and me we're yeah.
- 10:38And it's the nobody else can. Yeah, well the the New Mexico
- 10:45me. the American Indoor circuit is always like, Interesting, if
- 10:53not weird right? Highlighted by everything.
- 10:56You just said the, the one of the cooler things that I saw
- 11:01from that particular meat and it's not probably anything that
- 11:04we catch anybody's like true attention, but there was a
- 11:06shrieking Elvis sighting. Hmm.
- 11:09Okay. And you know, she's back in
- 11:13Texas with the team that had her at her best And you too.
- 11:19Yeah, oh okay. And and if if Sharika is gonna
- 11:25get back to who she can be and you know, push the American side
- 11:31of the hurdles back up in the mix it.
- 11:33Everybody forgets hardest event in the in the in the world.
- 11:37We dominated it for however, long but we didn't get any
- 11:40medals last year, like not a one.
- 11:43So I am here for the rebirth of shrieking Elvis.
- 11:47Sure. And you know, I'm happy to see
- 11:50it but you know it I don't think a lot of people were paying
- 11:56attention to that one in particular and so that I thought
- 11:59that was cool as I just want to see our ladies in that event,
- 12:04you know, go back to where they've always been but it's
- 12:09while I'm on this hurdle kick from this past weekend.
- 12:13The USC men have the number one, and number three, her Adler's in
- 12:17the country right now. Who saw that coming at Warren.
- 12:22They are number one and number three, 760 and 765.
- 12:28Okay so they run they run a decent 4x4 as well.
- 12:33Yes. Yeah.
- 12:38Like they got drugs. I mean right right now.
- 12:43Florida is the last team in the fastest eat at the NCAA me on
- 12:48the men's side that is right there.
- 12:52They are number four, USC's number five.
- 12:56Folks listen you know are tracking back.
- 12:59Track is back section is never not going to include this
- 13:02portion for me since the beginning of last year.
- 13:05I've been on this, we're on the 60 watch.
- 13:08So I want to give you all an update because not everybody's
- 13:10paying attention is Are three guys tied at 63.
- 13:15They are 14 15, 16? I don't know that this, that's
- 13:19but this weekend, right? That's my point.
- 13:24You have tiger, paw Tyson, you have Don Kirby and then, oh, you
- 13:30have championships to come 661 is not going to live.
- 13:35So. So I wanted to do this segment,
- 13:38we're not going to do it until we have all five of us, but
- 13:40we're going to do a segment. We're all going to predict a
- 13:44ridiculous Mark that doesn't make the national meat and I
- 13:46promise you. Somebody who has run
- 13:51ridiculously fast in the 60, it's going to be good.
- 13:55Be like Chris Brown said are you going to talk crap?
- 13:58Will you outside the club? You can't even get in because
- 14:02look look, 663 and ties is last into the meat right now on the
- 14:08men's side and this coming weekend is traditionally the
- 14:13fastest week of the year. Yes, the Valentine's weekend is
- 14:18always the fat. And now we've added to the chaos
- 14:21and nonsense that used to just be everybody's going to go to
- 14:25Tyson, okay? So now we're going to go to
- 14:27Tyson and Clemson and oh, by the way, throw in the new
- 14:33Albuquerque and altitude. Yes, that's right.
- 14:36Yeah, that's right. Well being, you know, a jumps
- 14:44coach, I am absolutely thrilled at what?
- 14:49I'm seeing right now in a men's long jump right now, it takes
- 14:53783 to make it to the mean. Okay, men.
- 15:00It's been a long time. It's been a long, long time
- 15:04since I've been since I've seen. I mean, the last couple years,
- 15:09it's taken 767 70s like, right. But we're still not done and
- 15:16that's, that's the part that needs to be emphasized.
- 15:19If these jumpers continue down the road, they're going, I mean
- 15:24792 make it. I mean, that is that is
- 15:28unprecedented. You guys are old enough to know
- 15:31the answer. This question.
- 15:32When is it one of the marks of the indoor meet, always the
- 15:34craziest, the years that the SEC tar in Fayetteville?
- 15:39Yes. Yeah.
- 15:40Oh my God. Yep.
- 15:44Yep. Yep.
- 15:45So I mean it, this is I mean, I'm glad Glad to see it.
- 15:50And you know, I mean, did anyone pay attention to the young man
- 15:56from Arkansas? What do you do?
- 15:58I was I was waiting for that for the paws in the air.
- 16:01Woohoo. So that was from eight contacts.
- 16:06So like I look up and I see people contacts it context.
- 16:13That's four, left's people. So I look up and I'm like, dang,
- 16:16I miss just like I miss this acceleration.
- 16:17Miss the start of the jump. Yeah, I don't know where you
- 16:20started from cause I was really like knowing dues trials and
- 16:23tribulations with that Runway. I want to see what he did.
- 16:25Yes, you're like, oh man, I'll wait for the next attempt.
- 16:30I look at the Nexus of life. Oh, I saw the whole thing that
- 16:34was. Yeah, and he didn't talk about
- 16:39it either and Coach Jackson recorded it, we looked at it
- 16:42again. I was like, Ironically as
- 16:50awesome as that is the women's long jump.
- 16:53Is kind of lame right now. Yes, but it's pretty lame right
- 16:59now, but you can you can bet your bottom dollar this weekend.
- 17:03You're going to see crazy women's long jump marks out of
- 17:06Arkansas, Clemson and down curve.
- 17:08You can breathe. You can bet your bottom dollar
- 17:11on that. Yeah, I hope so.
- 17:13Cuz right now number 16, In is 622.
- 17:16Yeah, yeah that's trash. That's when it will, stay that
- 17:19and will stay that way. So, yes, I was like I got to go
- 17:26there 590 and valid attendance at 6 meters.
- 17:37Legitimately I felt like we were back in Europe because so I
- 17:42don't know if anybody saw my tweet one.
- 17:44Albuquerque, who is the organization that sets up the
- 17:47track and whatnot in the convention center.
- 17:49They actually brought a DJ out and he was freaking trigger
- 17:52Ricky. Like the whole day and he stayed
- 17:56bless his heart. His both days were super long
- 17:58because the pole vault legitimately just pull and so
- 18:02yeah. I was like, oh, I'm so sorry he
- 18:04hates poll right now. So on the first date, like Olga
- 18:09is my girl, my girl One the B section and we've bought it till
- 18:1310:00. And so like he was out there, he
- 18:16was asking, like, what song? What song is going to get you
- 18:18over the bar and I was like, that's awesome for him to ask
- 18:21that. Yeah.
- 18:22So he plays her song valid attempt no clear but whenever we
- 18:26she want to be section. So someday is up, Zach Bradford
- 18:30still in and Sandra's playing the chess, not Checkers, where
- 18:37he's missed the bar once passed in the next bar because he knows
- 18:40he can take get it. So, makes out one.
- 18:43Then we go to 590 and he makes Zach doesn't make go to sixth
- 18:47and so it's known that he had to clear 590.
- 18:53I can't remember why I'll start my head.
- 18:55I can try, but he had to clear 590 on Saturday and so he clears
- 18:59niggas 6 meters and I'm literally like, does anybody
- 19:02realize what Watching right now, mmm-hmm, and we're myself in the
- 19:07tube holders are sitting, there were sitting right on the edge
- 19:09of the track and like I mean, we were there for like we're in the
- 19:20right? So we're truly Spectators here,
- 19:22I'm sitting right on the track, it was amazing, it really was
- 19:25and it's a competitor. He was grateful and very humble
- 19:28so. Well, in the moment he was
- 19:29humble whether he really is in our own, but whatever.
- 19:32So, Shout out to Saint Andre. I mean, we are seeing I mean,
- 19:39while we're on that, I have to give a shout out to Rasheeda a
- 19:43delicate. Yeah.
- 19:46Literally rewriting, the Irish record books.
- 19:50Every time she gets out there, this young lady has range from
- 19:54the 60 all the way it. I mean, she is like the Sprinter
- 20:00version of a thing mole right now.
- 20:03Yeah, like she has that kind of range.
- 20:06You can put her anywhere and, you know, obviously, you know,
- 20:12breaking into double the record, you know, Julian breaking the
- 20:16record. I mean, that's that's going to
- 20:17overshadow everything, but I mean, I she's box office.
- 20:22I mean, and I'm looking forward to see what she does as well.
- 20:26Because, yeah, we're not in mid-February and she's already
- 20:29run, 50, 45 and 2252. I'm telling you that the 5045
- 20:35I've my gasps yeah effortless yes, yeah, fretless.
- 20:42Yeah. Now on that, on that note, did
- 20:46anyone see how easily our friend from LSU ran at 200 that look?
- 20:52Now that looks scary easy. She oh my goodness.
- 20:59You know you said earlier it's about taking your lumps right.
- 21:02Mmm. She's a grown woman problem.
- 21:05Yeah, yeah, yep. Yep, yep.
- 21:09She's a, she's a grown woman problem this year.
- 21:13So we'll end up asking this question in a, in another
- 21:17context later on, in a few weeks, I'm sure.
- 21:19But remind me again, sigh legitimately do not know.
- 21:22Abby, set the record last year in the end or two at what Isn't
- 21:29it 10:40 thing goes faster than that?
- 21:34No endorse indoors. I think it goes faster than that
- 21:39for some reason I feel like it's 10:40 it was also the important
- 21:4316 16, 20 to 16, okay? So that's the record.
- 21:48Does favor or a delicate, a get that Well, here's the thing.
- 21:56Do they end up running against each other?
- 21:59Well, be so that's the thing. Wait, is that?
- 22:01Yeah, it might not, it might not happen ever.
- 22:05No. But I think favor gets it at
- 22:08conference. Yeah, I think so.
- 22:12Yeah, I mean she obviously can like that poof.
- 22:19Yeah, that that's fun. I think the I think the forelady
- 22:24He's in the fast heat at the SEC final or gonna run under 23
- 22:28seconds. I mean, you mean under 22
- 22:31seconds, It's going to be good. And and then and then because of
- 22:43our wonderful, you know, the way we do things, which I get I do
- 22:46really get like they made they may very well not race each
- 22:50other at the NCAA. Mmm.
- 22:53But okay, so the correct. So the current rules are one and
- 22:57two are in 5. 3 & 4 are in six. That is correct.
- 23:02Yes, I mean look, that's the only fair way to do it.
- 23:05That's what I'm saying. Like, I get it is where it is.
- 23:07It's the best. It's the best way to do it.
- 23:11To give you a favorable Lane. Yes.
- 23:14But this is Bart. This is the reason they don't
- 23:16run the 200 Arab world championship of anymore, because
- 23:19because of that, But I'm I'm here for it.
- 23:24I think it's I think the 200 up indoors is Amazing Race and I'm
- 23:29glad we still have it at the, at the best track meet on the
- 23:32planet. Now, we would be remiss not to
- 23:37mention because we mentioned the other three showcase meets this
- 23:41weekend. There's a, there's a 4, there is
- 23:46a fourth and, and it is going on on the East Coast at the The
- 23:53Ballantyne Invitational it up in Boston.
- 23:56Now currently listen, if you are running too early for the launch
- 24:02pad will get you there. Oh my gosh.
- 24:05Currently you know that particular venue is where the
- 24:08distance crew comes to flock and do their thing.
- 24:12Hmm. My boy gave Sanders is the
- 24:14current director of track and field.
- 24:16I just want to share everybody. A little stat, which blew my
- 24:19mind this weekend in the mile. There are four hundred and
- 24:25ninety nine men entered the undermine just just just take
- 24:31the moment to let that wash over.
- 24:33You 199 injuries. Of which 64 are seated under
- 24:41four minutes and is roughly 13% of the field.
- 24:47And again 500 athletes are going to run the mile in ball.
- 24:52Hey So, here it look. I I'm going to take this baton
- 24:59from Clyde because he was there in the conversation that we had
- 25:03at the convention with weird game.
- 25:09That's not the featured event. No, no, it's not.
- 25:13No, it's not. So, so they had so many entries
- 25:16last year in the 5K because that's the guarantee, right?
- 25:20You go there run the 5K. You're going to go to the
- 25:22Nationals, they had so many entries in an attempt to not
- 25:26have this happen. Again, they listen carefully,
- 25:30doubled the entry fee, just for the 5K and And they had 80% more
- 25:41entrance than last year. That's right.
- 25:45Not and you shouldn't be shocked by that gave and the rest of the
- 25:48world because this is America, it ain't oh my gosh, if it aint,
- 25:53if it's not cool, right? So I'm here, I love it
- 26:02Albuquerque this year. They have basically I call it a
- 26:07tax, you have $40 you have your your whatever, your three per
- 26:13event. Yes, after that you could put as
- 26:16many people in the 200 as you won't, but you going to pay it
- 26:19as forty fifty dollar tax. Yeah, and I know that the
- 26:23psychology behind that was. Okay.
- 26:25We going to limit the number of entries, I promise you.
- 26:27When I first started, I was like, oh, I can just pay, I
- 26:30don't have to ask no more. You quit Hey, so get mileage is
- 26:36like a bug. Get the money.
- 26:39I'm mad at it. I think it's great, but yes.
- 26:43Oh no, you gave said he funded. They fun their outdoor, their
- 26:47outdoor travel budget. Yes.
- 26:49But from this meat, I'm not surprised at all.
- 26:52Not at all. All right?
- 26:54And I got when I got older, you know what that that New Mexico
- 26:58meet we went to two weeks ago, I got wind of what they made
- 27:02before a Person stepped on the track.
- 27:05And I was just like, yeah. And that wasn't a big me.
- 27:09No, no, it was hot, but it was, yes, exactly.
- 27:14So, yeah, all of you people out there who are still on this, the
- 27:18tracks don't really matter. Kick one, you're a fool.
- 27:22Yeah, get your money on. Be careful.
- 27:25You see what's happening? Roll your quarters to get it
- 27:27ready? It's not an accident.
- 27:31Nope, shout out to the Albuquerque crew because they
- 27:36only have five coaches right now.
- 27:37Yes yep yep yep, yep, they do a great job, they all work hard,
- 27:43they work hard, really hard. But I have to ask the rest of
- 27:49the world. This question, am I the only one
- 27:51that was absolutely startled by the high-pitched of fem cables
- 27:56voice. I'm sure it.
- 27:59Okay, she sound her voice is higher than friend.
- 28:02Drescher's, really? Yes.
- 28:06Is higher than Rosie Perez has she sounds like she's six.
- 28:10And I was like, she's like 61, hmm.
- 28:16I was amazed by this. I kept rewinding it.
- 28:19Like that's not right. Yeah, anyway, she's amazing
- 28:24though. Oh, one more thing.
- 28:27We are obviously on world record, watch for the men's four
- 28:29by four. Yes, we are.
- 28:32So, the conversation, I think it actually went out on social
- 28:36media, Aiden basically was, I all my bad.
- 28:44Because he's Puerto Rican. I don't care about none of that.
- 28:49It's going to be the world record.
- 28:51This is this is right Benjamin all over again, huh?
- 28:54Right? Yeah, I don't care about none of
- 28:56that. USC is the rightful world record
- 28:59holders? I don't hear nothing about Papa.
- 29:01I'm going to say this. The world record in the 4 by 4
- 29:04is going to get broken in all four.
- 29:06People are going to be from the same country.
- 29:09And we're just going to leave that and keep it moving forward.
- 29:12I said it. All right.
- 29:18That's not that that's enough of track is back.
- 29:20But let's stop boring, everybody because we can keep going.
- 29:22Of course we said that a try is back y'all.
- 29:26Yes it is. I can't even believe it anyways.
- 29:30Alright, so we've somewhat discussed this already but not
- 29:35necessarily we've recognized and a lot of the The world track and
- 29:40field world has recognized that track is mostly a Pay-Per-View
- 29:43event. We have to pay to see the real
- 29:45events or the good parts. What we deem is the good parts.
- 29:49Is that good bad or a non-factor in the promotion of our sport?
- 29:56I mean it's probably probably net shitty but you know, I mean
- 30:07what are you going to do about it?
- 30:09Like unless it I mean right now ESPN is the only Network that
- 30:14really ever puts Collegiate meets on TV straight up.
- 30:19Everybody else you're behind the pay wall, run a space, flowtraq,
- 30:24whatever. So I mean right now unless ESPN
- 30:29is willing to do it and gets the rights to set me kind of just is
- 30:33what it is. I'm glad that you can see it if
- 30:37you want to see it. That's better than not being
- 30:39able to see it, which let's be clear a couple years ago.
- 30:42You couldn't see nothing. So, it's an improvement.
- 30:46But should I mean, what? I like it to be different.
- 30:49Sure. But let's be real.
- 30:51Who's putting it on? They're not going to do it.
- 30:55Yeah it's it's a sad reality. Like I go back to 1992 when they
- 31:05showed the entire long jump battle between Mike and Carl.
- 31:11They went to commercial. They came back.
- 31:14They were showing jump for jump, 91, almost two hours.
- 31:21That was box office. What network was that for me?
- 31:24That was ABC, CBS, ABC and it's a sad reality that we live in
- 31:39right now and can we blame the flow track.
- 31:43So the rotor space of the world to step into that void and you
- 31:49know, send their You know, send their people out and get the
- 31:53content and, you know, have people pay for it?
- 31:56Absolutely not. This is America, right?
- 31:58This is, you are, you know, maximizing and getting in, where
- 32:03you fit in and as long as people are willing to pay, you know, to
- 32:09pay the subscriptions. I don't see this changing
- 32:13anytime soon. I just feel like, There's so
- 32:20much content now. I mean, okay.
- 32:25This is the other part too, I'm not really sure on what the
- 32:29universities are doing where they're, you know, putting out
- 32:34their own content. I mean, are you having to pay
- 32:37for that as well? Or is it, are they just putting
- 32:39it up on their website? Depends on the University.
- 32:42Depends on the University. Yeah.
- 32:45So, you know what's that exit? So, I mean I feel like Any given
- 32:55weekend you hear about something, you can either see it
- 32:59on social media the clip or if you're willing to go through and
- 33:05find the entire broadcast and sift through and find that that
- 33:08one moment of magic. Then.
- 33:10Yeah but you know it's I hate that you know, for us that we're
- 33:18having to we're still having to pay for it.
- 33:20I hate that. So I guess this is how I feel.
- 33:29I think the best case scenario would be a combination, right?
- 33:35Every meat should have a Power Hour.
- 33:40That is broadcasted on insert Network here.
- 33:44Because if you, if you packaged it right, it's only an hour.
- 33:50Every single one of these meats, we talked about could be
- 33:53televised, and then the pay-per-view would be if you
- 33:56wanted like, the full content. So you want to stuff to happen
- 33:59before the hour if you wanted. I mean I hate that.
- 34:02Listen, obviously I'm a huge field of in person, but if you
- 34:04wanted the field of in coverage, like all those things, like then
- 34:08you'd like to pay for the package and that's You get but
- 34:10one hour, one high hour of every track meet should be free and
- 34:16should be on its kind of the UFC model, right?
- 34:21You get some free UFC. You may not get the best of it.
- 34:26Yeah. You certainly don't get all of
- 34:27it, right? But you get some free UFC.
- 34:33But what I'll say the problem we have the reason I think it's bad
- 34:39is we went to this model before we had popularity or I should
- 34:45say not true after our popularity died.
- 34:49So now we have literally earmarked ourself into a niche,
- 34:53that's it, no new fans need apply.
- 34:57Because even if you gain new fans from the Olympics, we lose
- 35:01them immediately. Because now they got to Go.
- 35:03Oh, I really like track is like, wait, I gotta pay for it then.
- 35:07Go do that. Right?
- 35:09So we, we can't even gain new fans anymore.
- 35:13So, like it is now what it is. And when I'm watching spikeball
- 35:18on television, and I'm watching darts on television, and I'm
- 35:23watching, was the other thing, obviously, did.
- 35:26I mean, he'll there's a whole ass Lee Garnet of coral, right,
- 35:30quidditch, but it look, I used to be I used to be like like
- 35:37every track failing, this ridiculously Why is my sport on
- 35:40television? Listen, I'm a Potato.
- 35:41This is the simple rule. Simple reason, you can package,
- 35:44all of those things and 48 minutes.
- 35:48So you can make it an hour with commercials and less track is
- 35:51going to accept. That we have to create a
- 35:5648-minute power hour. We have to tighten these
- 35:59schedules, we have to give people willing to do that,
- 36:02right? Especially you can do it easier
- 36:03on the pro level. It's much harder to do that with
- 36:06with Collegiates because you got way more doubling, right?
- 36:12So, but, but it'll Prometheus, you could do with these so how
- 36:16to make a schedule like super tight.
- 36:18So, how hard would it be? And I'm probably going to set
- 36:23someone up. For life here.
- 36:25But how hard would it be to go find all the highlights?
- 36:31Of the weekend package up blasted out.
- 36:37Here's what happened at New Mexico.
- 36:38Here's what happened at Arkansas.
- 36:40Here's what happened. As soon as the show goes on
- 36:42ESPN. That's exactly what we're gonna
- 36:44do. We're gonna, we're gonna give
- 36:48them seriously. Will give him 90 Hot seconds.
- 36:50I mean, that's, I mean that you have to build a one-hour TV show
- 36:55on the highlights. That's what I'm saying.
- 36:58Yeah, easily. So I mean it's something that's
- 37:05I don't think has even been broached.
- 37:08I don't think that you know I mean obviously would be a bit
- 37:12painstaking to to go out and grab or find your top 10, you
- 37:16know of the week, right? Well it's not even that right?
- 37:19It's like okay so I have to pay flowtraq for their content of
- 37:22the New Mexico. May even run a space for their
- 37:26content up from this me. Yeah.
- 37:28That's the problem with it, right?
- 37:30Yes. But be real.
- 37:32Those companies aren't for the greater good of all content for
- 37:37free. Yes that but that is the most
- 37:39efficient way to do it. You package it up.
- 37:43Track his back. Yeah and here we go. 60 Minutes
- 37:48you get all the races every eighth 2023.
- 37:52Okay? Comes on on Sundays edited.
- 38:00Yeah. I mean, I'm all for it.
- 38:02I'm that would be pretty awesome stuff.
- 38:09Oh, you guys so I guess we fly mean I guess our official stance
- 38:17is. It's definitely not good.
- 38:21Yeah, it probably is somewhat bad.
- 38:27But until the hierarchy and professionality of the sport
- 38:31change, probably as good as we can expect.
- 38:36Currently we have to accept that track is actually being put out
- 38:42there and how it's being put out there isn't the best medium but
- 38:49we'll take it. That's all right, I think I
- 38:53think that when it is out there we need to have more support by
- 38:56our eyes. Eyes and I'll be like, it's not
- 38:57even the races we want to watch or it's not even like we have to
- 39:00watch it, right? And I kind of giggle inside
- 39:03because I am, I am this person, but it's not for the same
- 39:06reasons. I don't have a runner space
- 39:09account. I don't watch any of those
- 39:12pay-per-views. Not because I'm like, oh my God,
- 39:14I can't believe it's 1999 a month or whatever it is.
- 39:17I don't even know what it is. It's mainly because I'm never
- 39:20home and I can never watch it. So I don't perversely.
- 39:24Just throw that out there. I like, I don't even have any
- 39:26Other subscriptions like Hulu and stuff like that.
- 39:29But We can't be like, well, I'm not paying for that.
- 39:33I should get it for free as well.
- 39:36Mmm, right that's just. What is that biting?
- 39:39Your know? Whatever that saying is cutting
- 39:42off your nose to spite your face.
- 39:44Yes, there you go. You do have to pay for it
- 39:48because then it shows interest and then that grows that way you
- 39:51know like make the sacrifice and and then it will grow as well.
- 39:55You can't be well, I'm not going to pay for it.
- 39:58They should just show it to me you know what unfortunately A
- 40:02new helped athlete. New pentathlete, this weekend.
- 40:05She, she and her family had paid for subscription for the month,
- 40:09so that one she could see her pent to her family.
- 40:13Could watch her compete. And they found out the brutal
- 40:16reality. Nothing get started before the
- 40:19middle get started. And so, I was like, well, write
- 40:24a write an email. That's where we find it.
- 40:28I mean, they usually they have in the past and she's like a
- 40:30coach, like a whole track meet went on.
- 40:33And I'm like, yeah. Well honey, welcome to track and
- 40:37field. So that was three, very
- 40:40long-winded summations in the honour of Sir lucious.
- 40:45I will just say we will sum it up as it is what it is.
- 40:52All right, all right, can't take it.
- 40:55I'll shut it. So there are some recent News.
- 41:02There have been six Russians who have been improved but under
- 41:06rule three point two that they'll be eligible to compete
- 41:11even though Russia remains ineligible what are your
- 41:16thoughts? Go right ahead.
- 41:25Can I just say succinctly, two completely different things?
- 41:30One, I'm so over Russia. So thirsty.
- 41:40And by extension what I mean. Listen.
- 41:48If they haven't done enough to be banned for life, then just
- 41:50let him run. Cuz this is stupid at this
- 41:53point, they didn't systematically cheated, the
- 41:58government funded, and co-signed the cheating.
- 42:02You all know they did it and now they're invading countries on a
- 42:06whim. So, just say you don't care
- 42:10about none of that. Just let him run at this point
- 42:12because this is some bullshit. Wait, so because I looked up the
- 42:17rule because I'm nervous, I don't care what the rules, that
- 42:20are very interesting because who got what, what, what a grouping
- 42:26got approved. Because this is the rule and
- 42:28athlete shall be eligible to compete in age.
- 42:31Group competition under these rules.
- 42:33If they are within the age, range specified and the relevant
- 42:37age group classification. So, is this a u-20?
- 42:41U18 type situation? No, no no, not at all.
- 42:45And here's what's crazy, right? I didn't send you guys all of
- 42:49the the article. If you do a deeper dive, this is
- 42:53the third batch of athletes that has been approved.
- 42:58That list is actually up to like 65 people.
- 43:04And at the end of the day, like look man.
- 43:10It's unfortunate, if you happen to be a clean Russian athlete.
- 43:18I get it, but the unfortunate part is You have to pay for the
- 43:25sins of your country. How about the 1980 US Olympic
- 43:31team? How about all of the Eastern
- 43:36Bloc 1984 us? I mean, 1984 Eastern Bloc
- 43:40Olympic teams, right? They had a whole Olympics taken
- 43:43from them because of political views and and and wars and
- 43:48things of this nature, right? Okay, so why is this any
- 43:51different and then when you add to the fact that it's like, how
- 43:55you go to war when your whole country's Athletic program is
- 43:59already under the microscope for doping.
- 44:03Yeah, right so like Like at the end of the day like I feel no
- 44:06remorse for the athletes, I do feel bad for them.
- 44:09I feel some empathy but at the end of the day, like none of
- 44:11them should be running under any flag anywhere.
- 44:16They shouldn't displace one human being from a world
- 44:19championship or an Olympics, or anything of that nature or
- 44:23european championships, and they should not be allowed to compete
- 44:26period. End of story.
- 44:29So this, this whole debacle and everything, is unfolding is a
- 44:36situation where the ioc is thinking about one thing and
- 44:42that is dollars, you're thinking about whether it's out in the
- 44:49open, they're thinking about Russian dollars, they're
- 44:54thinking about keeping that gravy train going.
- 44:58So you have that going on. While the war on Ukraine is
- 45:04going on, you have the mayor of Paris who's already gone on the
- 45:08record to say, there is no plans for a Russian or Belarusian
- 45:14delegation at the 2024 Olympics, right?
- 45:19And the happy medium is basically.
- 45:23Well, I'll see you saying, well, as long as you denounce, it You
- 45:29know, and say that you are not for the war, right, which
- 45:34anybody can say that, right? So you've got the drug scandal,
- 45:42you've got the political Wars and then you've got dollars.
- 45:47Who do you think is going to win that war?
- 45:49Who's on anything? Who's going to win that battle?
- 45:52If the ioc is sitting there, going my goodness.
- 45:55We've got some major major sponsors oil.
- 45:58Open. He's whatever that are going to
- 46:00be fun at funneling money to us, right?
- 46:06Yeah, I mean this, this is I don't see any way that this
- 46:11doesn't happen. There will be some Russian
- 46:14representation at the Olympic Games.
- 46:17It's so I'll ask the 10 million dollar question because at this
- 46:20point, I'm everybody on this panel has been to at least a
- 46:22world championships. And so you understand that that
- 46:25the housing for athletes is all done in a village, right?
- 46:27Okay. So I know I'm not the only one
- 46:30that knows that that, that house you had building is Russia,
- 46:36Ukraine Belarus. Is that part of the, it's not
- 46:40part of the world conflicts, that all of them are in the same
- 46:43place, right? Where you going to put the
- 46:46Russian delegation and the Belarusian delegates wouldn't
- 46:49stop there. The entire Europe Europe.
- 46:55Is against Russia right now like Europe and Belarus and meet you
- 47:00mean Russia and Belarus Russia. So where are you going to put
- 47:05them? They can't stay in Paris.
- 47:10I mean, I don't know. No.
- 47:19So like I just I don't even get it.
- 47:21Like how was it that Seb Coe can can run a staunch line about how
- 47:26we need to streamline meats and this that and the third and cut
- 47:28out the triple jump. And and we're trying to we're
- 47:31trying to shut down six of six attempts down to four down two.
- 47:35Three down to two and a half with 32 seconds of rest in
- 47:37between. But you can't figure out that
- 47:41what Ray Charles can see that there should be no Russian and
- 47:45no Belarusian athletes at any ioc.
- 47:49Eeyore World Athletics sponsored events and hey, they're not
- 47:52Russian and they're not Belarusian their independence.
- 47:55Their independence means I have their own flag,
- 48:08don't have this one random little spot that has its own
- 48:12rules. Like, nah, we ain't doing that.
- 48:15They're all from Monaco now, oh my God.
- 48:18Nah man in reading the article, even though World Athletics has
- 48:23given them, the green light Diamond league is still upheld
- 48:27their suspension. They are not invited or allowed
- 48:30to be in any of the diamond league needs you.
- 48:37There's just doesn't matter, 73 athletes who have been
- 48:42authorized neutral athletes assigned.
- 48:46See. Nothing, nothing.
- 49:26We got nothing. It's going to happen if he's
- 49:30going to make the non decision and it's gonna happen.
- 49:34But it shouldn't. Crazy, crazy.
- 49:39Crazy very interesting article. I just read it though.
- 49:45But with that being said, even more interesting, is the
- 49:48governor sitting into the seat of would rather.
- 49:52Oh no, oh no, no, no, no, you forgot you forgot the best topic
- 49:57we got, You forgot the basketball topic.
- 50:15I gave it, I gave it a doing. What others have done, is to
- 50:26casually disrespecting. What we witnessed last night,
- 50:31please Clyde, take the flow. No no no, no, I'll go first
- 50:35exactly. I'm gonna say this, I'm a huge
- 50:41fan of basketball. I am a huge fan of LeBron.
- 50:47I am a huge fan of MJ. I'm a huge fan of of the stars
- 50:51in general. the coolest thing that happened last night was
- 50:58that I actually got to watch what happened on the court
- 51:03sitting on the couch with my oldest son and He and I don't
- 51:09agree on. I don't think anything that
- 51:13pertains to basketball, like most people around us, they like
- 51:16to now, too. Soon as he and I start talking
- 51:19because it's always an argument about basketball, but that and
- 51:23it's in and of itself just to capture the moment together was
- 51:30cool. I thought the moment was cool.
- 51:34I thought the best part of what happened last night was the
- 51:37halftime. Sit down with with Braun and his
- 51:40two kids and he was like, I need 16, think I should go get it and
- 51:45they were like yeah, absolutely. It's like 28-point quarter like
- 51:49I thought that was really really cool.
- 51:53I thought Braun finishing the his very, very very, very good
- 51:58speech with the F-bomb was spectacular.
- 52:03Thank you live TV for that. And then I saw that then I think
- 52:10the only part of it that just pissed me off was like the just
- 52:15so ridiculously unnecessary immediate.
- 52:20What is that thing? That solution says comparison is
- 52:25the It's likes comparison. No, no.
- 52:30It's like comparison is like the it's like the killer of joy as
- 52:35much but whatever the heck did the actual expression is?
- 52:38I can't think of it right now. We couldn't even like half 33
- 52:42seconds of the moment before it like this just holistically
- 52:48unnecessary goat conversation debate fight, whatever had to
- 52:54had to insu and I'm just like why Why what happened?
- 53:01Last night was amazing because I I think every single person who
- 53:09likes basketball will agree that LeBron James is a past first
- 53:13guy. And he's managed to stay healthy
- 53:19and play basketball for 20 years at a really high level and has
- 53:26compiled more points than anybody has ever had.
- 53:29He's changed his game and evolved his game as the game has
- 53:32changed, has managed to stay pretty much out of any,
- 53:38off-the-court, drama, or any of that nonsense.
- 53:41And he's now on a whole nother Mission, which is Is.
- 53:47Ball at this same level until his son is in the league and to
- 53:55play wherever, whatever team takes his son is gonna get him
- 54:00and they're going to play together.
- 54:02And honestly, folks, for all of the quote-unquote wrong reasons
- 54:06that professional athletes. Do things like, that's what I
- 54:10was most moved by last night. Was that like we're gonna work?
- 54:16World where people all they are all they talk about is like
- 54:19black men and they're not fathers and I mean, he'll LeBron
- 54:21de wouldn't have a father figure in his life, right?
- 54:24But we hear all those things and here is LeBron being dad first.
- 54:30And I thought that part. Was amazing.
- 54:34And that was the story to talk about.
- 54:37Not this mythical goat conversation against to about
- 54:39two people who can't play against each other.
- 54:41I cannot make any damn sense. Yeah, I basically comes down to
- 54:49this. For those that say that LeBron
- 54:54did not win enough championships.
- 54:58One person does not win the championship I mean let's just
- 55:04call it what it is, we can compare, you know, the greatest,
- 55:09six, rings, Seven, Rings, all of that stuff, right?
- 55:13But this is a record that nobody in our lifetime ever thought
- 55:20will be broken. I mean, to stay to come into the
- 55:25league when he did. And to break the record for
- 55:31years was a 4 years earlier. No, no, no.
- 55:36It's a hundred and something game 150.
- 55:39It's to basically two seasons since 157 games.
- 55:43But and to be the kind of player that he is, I mean, it's
- 55:50unbelievable. You cannot you have to pay
- 55:54homage and you have to give the man respect because that mean
- 56:00that that I was on pins and needles the entire game, every
- 56:06time he got the ball and you felt the crowd and you could
- 56:09hear the crowd, just start to rise up and any scores.
- 56:13And they crescendo And then every time he comes down the
- 56:17court, I mean it was pretty fascinating, pretty fascinating
- 56:21to watch and then to have my namesake and hand him handed to
- 56:30him to Lakers. Come on, man.
- 56:33I mean it's just this is the kind of stuff that scripted,
- 56:37you'd almost feel scripted you know, for him to do that and to
- 56:42have that moment and to have the captain After him beautiful
- 56:46stuff, I enjoyed it. I don't care whether you're a
- 56:50LeBron fan or not. You have to appreciate what that
- 56:54man did last night. Is there anybody on this planet
- 56:56with with as much classes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar oh man.
- 57:00I mean he said an apology is not an apology may be an
- 57:03acknowledgment to Shaq at the end, right?
- 57:05As you did a selfless and why does he want to make sure that
- 57:11was because he had already done that.
- 57:14He had already done. That already privately.
- 57:18He's so full of class to like, read has all the reasons on the
- 57:22planet. Kareem has all the reasons on
- 57:25the planet to be angry. Mmm, but, but sir.
- 57:31And again, I have been on record for years saying, no, no, no.
- 57:38This argument is being done wrong.
- 57:40It's actually Kareem as the goat that LeBron is chasing.
- 57:45You know, I have the utmost respect for Kareem.
- 57:48Sure. I really understand the context
- 57:51of why he is and has been angry and disrespected.
- 57:58He's been very disrespected by the sport absolutely has but
- 58:03let's not but but I'm also not going to sit here and just gush
- 58:07about how classy is because let's be clear.
- 58:11He been a little disrespectful to LeBron.
- 58:15And two others in the lead-up to this.
- 58:17Now, I was happy to see him, come around and do it the right
- 58:21way and be the epitome of class last night.
- 58:25Hmm, But he has a whole bunch of comments out there in the media,
- 58:29in the last couple years. Leading up to this, that you
- 58:31knew he was a little salty about.
- 58:33Absolutely. Yeah.
- 58:35You know. And so I digress.
- 58:38I'm a fan. I loved that whole moment and he
- 58:42broke to when he broke the record will refuse to go.
- 58:45Yes, so let's just start there. How can I get that?
- 58:49And so, I appreciate him taking the high road and doing what was
- 58:53right. I thought the NBA shutting down
- 58:56the game and really taking time for that moment.
- 59:00Yes, though. Because here's the thing that
- 59:02that's actually irritated me on this issue for a long time
- 59:07because I like 95% of anybody who knows anything about
- 59:12basketball in his honest you never thought that record was
- 59:15Getting broke. Nobody.
- 59:16Nobody, nobody do. And so, not once not once when
- 59:21Michael had to take his little two year baseball Hiatus, I
- 59:25never thought anybody else had a shot.
- 59:27I'll be the first person to admit to that.
- 59:29And so, my thing is this like, in basketball, if we're being
- 59:34honest, like baseball is the sport where the record book is
- 59:37everything, right? There's so many high-class High
- 59:42importance. Records basketball isn't like
- 59:44that. Hello, football really isn't
- 59:46like that. The only sacred record in
- 59:48basketball is this one? And it took 40 years.
- 59:54Yeah. Okay, 40 years years.
- 59:59So for me last night, they got it right, but the lead-up to
- 1:00:04this everybody's been getting wrong.
- 1:00:07It hasn't gotten nearly the attention that it deserves.
- 1:00:11And for my money it's because of who is actually breaking that
- 1:00:17record for whatever reason LeBron is a very Rising athlete.
- 1:00:22I don't get why he's been. Um, he's done nothing, you know
- 1:00:27in any real way for that to be the case.
- 1:00:30But, you know, there's a lot of people ESPN and Etc that have
- 1:00:35attached their entire careers and made their entire careers
- 1:00:39off of elevating and promoting Michael Jordan.
- 1:00:44Because at one point he saved the sport.
- 1:00:48I get that. But look, man at some point, you
- 1:00:52just gotta recognize what it is. And, you know, I think of all
- 1:00:57this week, I think j.j. Redick had the best sentiments
- 1:01:00on this ESPN First Take specifically had a segment is
- 1:01:05LeBron and all-time great score which is such an offensive
- 1:01:09question. It's ridiculously offensive
- 1:01:12question and JJ. No, it's an offensive question.
- 1:01:16Not an offensive question, it might not be the brightest
- 1:01:18question. It's not offensive.
- 1:01:20As o.j. on some podcast that he's affiliated with said, said
- 1:01:24it bluntly is like it's a ridiculous question.
- 1:01:27Not only, is he an all-time great score?
- 1:01:29He's the all-time greatest scorer.
- 1:01:33Yes, he's basically third by average, you know, we're talking
- 1:01:39like .0 whatever, he's third by average.
- 1:01:44And he just took out the all-time scoring King and
- 1:01:49something that I learned this week that I really didn't grasp.
- 1:01:52In the time, the playoffs have nothing to do with this record.
- 1:01:57This is regular season scoring. No, no yes, no shit, no is.
- 1:02:05Yes it is. No playoffs.
- 1:02:07Total is the total there is a separation there is okay.
- 1:02:12That the title is the Tony went out of their way to report that
- 1:02:15on three different networks. This week, this is the playoffs
- 1:02:18are not a part of that 38. You're not you're not.
- 1:02:22No, you're not. It's just not.
- 1:02:25And that is even more. Mind-blowing if you really think
- 1:02:28about it. So for this man to be in that
- 1:02:32Throne now officially and to be number four and assist and to be
- 1:02:38all the other things that he has been like people talk about
- 1:02:42giving your flowers on time. There ain't enough flowers, you
- 1:02:45could throw at that man and he ain't gonna be around forever
- 1:02:48and I just don't understand why we're at a place in this country
- 1:02:51where greatness is Has to take so many arrows.
- 1:02:56Tom Brady ain't been retired for a week and their segments on Fox
- 1:03:00and ESPN trying to discredit the idea that he's the go and not
- 1:03:04for Patrick homes. Okay?
- 1:03:07Like it's crazy. Oh no, that Mike Francis did
- 1:03:10that today, retire? Yes, it's watch that.
- 1:03:14It's so disrespectful. So, you know, I mean, the issue
- 1:03:19and I have this relatively heated debate this morning with
- 1:03:22my son about it, right? And I I think of all the sports,
- 1:03:26this is the one where the goat conversation should never
- 1:03:29happen, right? Because People play different
- 1:03:33positions and they and different things are required of them.
- 1:03:37And different things are asked of them, and you can't just at
- 1:03:41the end decide that we're going to compare apples.
- 1:03:43Oranges, pears, and plums and say hi.
- 1:03:45This is the best fruit, right? Like what?
- 1:03:48But, that's an excellent point. And here's the thing, none of
- 1:03:52the people in that conversation had the LeBron had to do more
- 1:03:56than any of them for their his team's any?
- 1:03:58Whoa, okay. So okay, so here's the okay.
- 1:04:02So it's like this and there's a we're not going to have this
- 1:04:03whole debate. You I think it's fun, Barbershop
- 1:04:06talk for like who you think is the best and why if you have a
- 1:04:09real argument for it, I like to hear it.
- 1:04:11That's all there is to it, but I'll just say, like this.
- 1:04:14Look Wilt Chamberlain's, the only human being to ever lead
- 1:04:16the league in rebounds assists and score.
- 1:04:21Right? So it's like, okay, well, so
- 1:04:24he's done something that nobody's ever going to do.
- 1:04:26Like I get it but but but that doesn't make him.
- 1:04:28It doesn't make him the greatest either.
- 1:04:29And so like that's my whole point about Basketball and sis.
- 1:04:33And especially with Statistics, right?
- 1:04:35Like if we're doing, if we're going to compare Apple to an
- 1:04:41apple, right? If if the way you could come
- 1:04:45into the league, was the same. M de los 3. 2,000 plus Point
- 1:04:55Years playing college basketball, right?
- 1:04:59And then no ever how you slice it, whether it's his fault or
- 1:05:03somebody else's, another, almost two years playing baseball, I
- 1:05:09don't care about the statistics like to me who the greatest
- 1:05:12player is, is going to be based on what this right here, like, I
- 1:05:16saw him play. What do I think?
- 1:05:18And I'll tell you if somebody asked me like okay You have to
- 1:05:23have somebody play basketball for your life.
- 1:05:28They have to win or you die. The first question I'm asking,
- 1:05:31is, are we playing one-on-one or we playing five-on-five?
- 1:05:34Like, I need to know the rules. I need to know the era, right?
- 1:05:38And the fact that those qualifiers have to come out
- 1:05:40there because they will change your answer.
- 1:05:42Should just tell you, like, let's just appreciate the people
- 1:05:45who are the greatest when they grow when they're great.
- 1:05:48Like, why do we always have to Sully somebody else's greatness
- 1:05:50to push somebody else up top? I It II don't enjoy that either.
- 1:05:57I just I don't like unhinged conversations that are attached
- 1:06:02from reality. Like the narrative literally
- 1:06:06built on ESPN for 15 years by Skip Bayless.
- 1:06:10That LeBron isn't clutch really has the best clutch numbers ever
- 1:06:16in the playoffs and it's not actually close.
- 1:06:19Yeah. But again, statistics can tell
- 1:06:21you anything. Thing, you want them to tell
- 1:06:23you, right? Like at the end of the day,
- 1:06:27okay, two things can be true. You can't say that.
- 1:06:32You can't say, with all with all definition, LeBron has the
- 1:06:35greatest clutch numbers and then and then and then not have to
- 1:06:38explain how it can be 4 and 6 in and play and championships.
- 1:06:43This like when the governor is getting that, I don't do this
- 1:06:46Governor, it's a team game. Yes, it is a team game but at
- 1:06:50the end of the day like this is my We pick and choose when we
- 1:06:54want things to be the way they are.
- 1:06:56It is subjective, it's subjective.
- 1:06:58And that's why I hate it because it look, I just want to walk
- 1:07:03around with my chest out, to be able to say this, because I saw
- 1:07:07this last night and I thought it was amazing.
- 1:07:09The top 10 scores in NBA history.
- 1:07:10I've seen nine of them play live.
- 1:07:13The only one I didn't see play Live is Wilt Chamberlain so I
- 1:07:15want to be good with that, right?
- 1:07:19I don't give a shit, whether I think mine is better or MJ's
- 1:07:22better because I'm weak to me. It's irrelevant if I'm playing a
- 1:07:25game from my life. They're both on the floor
- 1:07:27because they don't play the same position.
- 1:07:30Right. So like that's what I'm talking
- 1:07:32about. Like I'm like I'm here for
- 1:07:34debates about the greatest teams ever but the greatest player
- 1:07:38ever in basketball man. That's that is literally
- 1:07:41impossible to have a real conversation about because it
- 1:07:45depends on all of the rules possible to set up what
- 1:07:49parameters we are going to give the answer.
- 1:07:52And if I got to put in all of that nonsense to come up with a
- 1:07:55real answer, I would rather just enjoy what I watch.
- 1:08:00And it's just me. Big-league fact, fun fact, the
- 1:08:05gentleman who was quote unquote Garden because it's by no means
- 1:08:08was he guarding. LeBron was a horned frog.
- 1:08:19Hey, that dude is famous now. Random fact, so Governor are you
- 1:08:35ready? Now, sir now that Lamar warmed
- 1:08:38up that seat for you. Yes, I'm ready.
- 1:08:42All right, would you rather now that you've had this experience
- 1:08:47as you did? Would you rather live on the
- 1:08:49east coast or stay in test Texas?
- 1:08:55I have to ask it out loud. That's hilarious.
- 1:08:59I'll stay in Texas for your background.
- 1:09:06Would you rather keep watching the San Antonio Skyline or have
- 1:09:11the New York City skyline whoo-wee?
- 1:09:14Yeah, there's no comparison man. Look, I have a brand new
- 1:09:26appreciation of the New York skyline.
- 1:09:30Yeah. There's there's no there's no
- 1:09:33competition whatsoever. All right, or your mobile device
- 1:09:38so call your cell phone charger. Do you prefer a case for it or a
- 1:09:43battery pack? Microphone charging tax on your
- 1:09:48called, I prefer the charging pad.
- 1:09:52Got it in your Heyday if you prefer and sorry I want to say
- 1:09:59is I'm just gonna ask it elevator, Runway or flat Runway.
- 1:10:04Because my absolutely hated elevated runways.
- 1:10:08I've been having this conversation with my athletes
- 1:10:13like for the last two. Well, going to New Mexico and
- 1:10:16going to New York. My kids have had so many issues
- 1:10:22with consistency On The Run. We don't train on it.
- 1:10:28And I've made the point to let him know.
- 1:10:32My indoor PB is 8 meters, 22, my outdoor PB is 8, metre, sixty
- 1:10:38three. What else do you need to know?
- 1:10:41Like unless you train on that thing unless you're used to the
- 1:10:45timing? You know?
- 1:10:47And all of that. Yes, it you better be a quick
- 1:10:50study otherwise you're going to go home.
- 1:10:53Very unhappy unless you catch up unless you're lucky.
- 1:10:57Yeah. Peanut or peanut butter M&M's.
- 1:11:05Or peanut butter. The peanut butter.
- 1:11:11Peanut I like the peanut Eminem's.
- 1:11:14Got it. Moving on.
- 1:11:15Beautiful right there. Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:11:19Yes. Driver side or the door side of
- 1:11:21the bus. Second row.
- 1:11:30Opposite side of the bus driver. Got, would you rather land in
- 1:11:38wet sand or Dusty stand? Both are bad.
- 1:11:45That's because when it's dry you're probably going to lose
- 1:11:53anywhere between 5 and 10 centimeters.
- 1:11:57Yep guaranteed fucking just on the shift.
- 1:12:00Yes. All right.
- 1:12:02Gentlemen, floor is yours. This is not at all.
- 1:12:09The would you rather? But since I've been through
- 1:12:12this, what advice would you give to coaches?
- 1:12:19Aspiring to take their teams to New York City for an indoor meet
- 1:12:25particularly as it pertains to Subway travel.
- 1:12:30So a couple of things be prepared to make a run to what
- 1:12:41is it is, it was the major you have to eat, you have to find a
- 1:12:47place that sells tickets, the, but that metrocards in milk and
- 1:12:53station if you, yes, Penn Station, otherwise you better
- 1:12:59have a ton of cash on you, because the Do card.
- 1:13:05Machines will only accept to credit card, swipes a date.
- 1:13:11And they will not allow any more.
- 1:13:15So we had 40 plus people in our party and we literally had to
- 1:13:22stand there. And so after we were done with
- 1:13:26the cash, we're getting these dollar coins having to plug them
- 1:13:30in to try and get all the Metro cards.
- 1:13:34The other thing is if you're there for 3 days or you know,
- 1:13:39then you might as well get the week, passed the unlimited pass,
- 1:13:44That is its massive. It is huge for the kids.
- 1:13:48The ones that are that one of venture out and see things.
- 1:13:51I mean the pictures that came back from our from our Squad II.
- 1:13:57Don't know how they competed the way they did because they must
- 1:14:00have done a ton of walking. It was they took They took full
- 1:14:06advantage of that trip, and I know that it's something that
- 1:14:11they won't forget anytime soon. Yeah, I mean no doubt as a
- 1:14:18native New Yorker, I will say this much about New York, no
- 1:14:21matter what they do to it. It will always be the best place
- 1:14:24on this planet to visit. Unbelievable once so and here's
- 1:14:30another thing and this is this is kind of the state rate.
- 1:14:36Only applies you can only get two.
- 1:14:40So if you like to say you you're you you get the state rate for
- 1:14:44the hotel, Right. Well, you can only get two and
- 1:14:49let's say you bought you have seven rooms.
- 1:14:51You can only get two rooms at the state rate.
- 1:14:56Yeah. So I'm not going to say any more
- 1:14:59about it oh yeah but yeah and the state rate is very nice
- 1:15:10compared to what it really is. Oh yeah.
- 1:15:15Funny. Okay, so I'm going to ask semi
- 1:15:18specific two-part question. You cannot use Olympics World
- 1:15:24Championships of any kind indoor or out or ncaa's indoors or out,
- 1:15:28right? So all those meats are out What
- 1:15:31is your favorite meat to compete at?
- 1:15:34And what is your favorite meat to coach at?
- 1:15:40Favorite me to compete at is Zurich.
- 1:15:46Yeah. I mean, what else can you say?
- 1:15:51I mean, it's just You can say that they don't have the
- 1:15:55decathlon. That's what you could say.
- 1:16:04Favorite meat. Wow.
- 1:16:15Bishop's out of it, right? Oui.
- 1:16:28Is it? Oh, yes.
- 1:16:34Interesting Marion. He was things almost psychotic.
- 1:16:39Well, it's yeah. I guess you could say that those
- 1:16:46damn stairs. Yeah.
- 1:16:50And and the end. The multiple venues.
- 1:16:53Yeah, I just I don't know. I've always 7 a.m. for by one.
- 1:16:59I've always enjoyed it. It's just it's just different
- 1:17:03man. Just different that it is.
- 1:17:05It is different. Oh, it's funny.
- 1:17:07We were talking about Texas videos today.
- 1:17:10I remember the the five-minute window where I literally passed
- 1:17:13out on top of our training tables because I was so hot, so
- 1:17:16tired. And so done for the read, the
- 1:17:19high school braces were going on and I was like, I see five
- 1:17:21minutes. All right, don't worry about me.
- 1:17:35Mr. Governor now that you've done both, which one is more
- 1:17:39difficult traveling with a whole team of kids in New York City or
- 1:17:44trying to get into a world champion of shit, World,
- 1:17:46Championships or Olympics, without your credential so 50/50
- 1:17:58shot. They're having no question
- 1:18:01having done both and having I it's actually it's actually
- 1:18:08easier to get into a world championships without a
- 1:18:11credential. I have far too many people that
- 1:18:16I can call on to help a brother out in the time.
- 1:18:21Yes. No one to call in the subway
- 1:18:24with no, no, no. No, there's no one to call.
- 1:18:30There's no one to help you. There's no one who cares?
- 1:18:33No, not at all. No.
- 1:18:35The fact that you're asking for help identifies, you as someone
- 1:18:39not from New York, who are a potential victim that point the
- 1:18:46things we saw in the sun, it was clearly not, you know,
- 1:18:51extinction level event stuff going on, but menu sitting there
- 1:18:55and you're looking around and you're like, Like, wow, this
- 1:18:58this is the entire spectrum of the human race.
- 1:19:03So I just want you to imagine this for you.
- 1:19:07I was a latchkey kid in New York City and I only did my mother's
- 1:19:11apartment around my neck. When I was eight years old,
- 1:19:13traveling through New York City by myself, what different
- 1:19:18solutely different times different times.
- 1:19:21When absolutely All right, well, wrapping up.
- 1:19:26Would you rather Harpy props Mine is, mine is not emotional.
- 1:19:33So I'm a and jump in a very interesting week in track and
- 1:19:39field very interesting week in the NBA, but the other very,
- 1:19:44very important and totally awesome thing that went on this
- 1:19:48week in case you missed, it was the State of the Union by Big
- 1:19:52Joe be that was a masterclass litical.
- 1:20:00Just. Oh, my God, last it was petty.
- 1:20:05It was awesome. Yeah, in there serving notice,
- 1:20:09he had them people in their feelings upset, contradict
- 1:20:13themselves. Listen, you can say whatever you
- 1:20:16want, man. Hey, Jody knows what he's doing
- 1:20:20and he is doing a phenomenal job and that was an epic piece of
- 1:20:24Television to sit there and watch.
- 1:20:26I thoroughly enjoyed it. So Props to Big Joe be.
- 1:20:32I appreciated it early. Yeah, get it.
- 1:20:39No, go ahead. No, you go ahead.
- 1:20:42Lamar, go ahead. My heart.
- 1:20:44Be props. Go out to somebody who I'm 100%
- 1:20:46sure does not watch the show. But you say that every week,
- 1:20:51when you say you need new friends, you say that like every
- 1:20:55week. Well, okay.
- 1:20:56When I tell you who my heartbeat props, go to you, you'll
- 1:20:59understand this person just one their 31st first Grammy and is
- 1:21:09now the most decorated musical artist in the history of music
- 1:21:13and so am I upset the Beyonce? Doesn't watch our show?
- 1:21:17Yes. A little bit you're not going to
- 1:21:20shame me for not being friends when Beyonce but look you guys
- 1:21:29all know me really well and the two things probably besides my
- 1:21:33family that mean anything to me are sports and music.
- 1:21:36And you know, the Grammys again, this doesn't mean that she's
- 1:21:42necessarily the greatest artist to ever.
- 1:21:44So let's not do that. That's right, let's not do that.
- 1:21:48But at the end of the day, 31 Grammys.
- 1:21:56Is. Insane.
- 1:22:01And and she's not done yet, she has won Grammys as an artist.
- 1:22:06She's won Grammys as a songwriter.
- 1:22:07Just run. One Grammys as a producer.
- 1:22:10She's won Grammys for singles. She's won Grammys for albums.
- 1:22:15Funny funny though she's 131 Grammys has never won album of
- 1:22:20the year the most coveted. Right was just push, just speaks
- 1:22:26to what I was talking about about, you know, the politics of
- 1:22:31things and how it just seems so easy for us to get it to get it,
- 1:22:35right? But somehow we still managed to
- 1:22:38get it wrong a lot. But I want the, I want the track
- 1:22:43and field in the world. To know that we do, do other
- 1:22:46things besides just watch track and somehow I managed to see the
- 1:22:51Beyonce at 131 Grammys. And I thought that was
- 1:22:54Ridiculous. Yeah, I I'm actually on that
- 1:23:00same, I'm on that same track that you are and anyone that saw
- 1:23:08her acceptance speech. Like you really you couldn't not
- 1:23:16be moved by Liz, owes acceptance speech, that was pretty
- 1:23:23phenomenal. And you I mean any any number of
- 1:23:29thoughts go through your head when when someone Clearly, you
- 1:23:34know, in the music genre that she's in and the world of
- 1:23:40entertainment being plus-sized and all of that for her to do
- 1:23:45what she's done. You can't help but appreciated
- 1:23:50that. So big heartbeat props, go out
- 1:23:52to lizzo continued success and you know can't wait to see what
- 1:23:58she does. Next My Harpy props, go out to
- 1:24:02will yank. Today is transparent.
