- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch.
- 0:05Speaker 2: To get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland, the after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:36Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get from one full episode
- 0:38Speaker 1: of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig into
- 0:41Speaker 1: the dirt. On this episode, we are talking about, among
- 0:45Speaker 1: other things, the epic twenty twenty four that we have
- 0:48Speaker 1: in store for you guys here in Disgraceland, and of
- 0:51Speaker 1: course your voicemails, text, dms and more, and as always,
- 0:55Speaker 1: a whole lot of rosie.
- 0:56Speaker 2: All right, discos, let's get a.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Joint, all right this week and Disgraceland as promised a
- 1:14Speaker 1: double dose of after parties, because damn, after the year
- 1:18Speaker 1: we just had, in the year we're about to have,
- 1:20Speaker 1: we got a lot to process here with this show.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Told John Tuesday's after Party that this year, in twenty
- 1:25Speaker 1: twenty four, we're going to be branching out in Disgraceland
- 1:28Speaker 1: and that we're going to start telling stories about not
- 1:30Speaker 1: only musicians and rock stars, but lots of fascinating people
- 1:34Speaker 1: who are rock stars in their respective fields. I've been
- 1:38Speaker 1: teasing this out and frankly asking for your advice on
- 1:42Speaker 1: this for the last couple of months. As you know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I have long harbored desires to expand beyond just Disgraceland
- 1:49Speaker 1: and bad Lands and how to try to figure out
- 1:52Speaker 1: how to juggle this whole thing, this whole enterprise that
- 1:55Speaker 1: we're doing here with all of these fascinating, extraordinary subjects
- 2:00Speaker 1: that we're interested in. And I'm sort of looking at
- 2:04Speaker 1: it as, Okay, how do I tell these stories about
- 2:06Speaker 1: these icons that aren't necessarily from music. These whether they're
- 2:10Speaker 1: you know, we've talked about this, whether they're poets, whether
- 2:12Speaker 1: they're artists, whether they're they're athletes, And I'm trying to
- 2:16Speaker 1: go at it from the point of view of which
- 2:19Speaker 1: among these subjects, even if they weren't musicians, were rock
- 2:23Speaker 1: stars Anthony Bourdain, Hunter s Thompson. The way they approached
- 2:28Speaker 1: their craft, the way they approached their lifestyles very similar
- 2:33Speaker 1: to a rock star. Same thing with Andy Warhol. And
- 2:35Speaker 1: I can make the case for Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan
- 2:38Speaker 1: as well, so ultimately, yes, you heard it here. First,
- 2:42Speaker 1: we are bringing all of the bad Land subjects under
- 2:45Speaker 1: the Disgraceland umbrella. It's not going to happen overnight. The
- 2:49Speaker 1: subjects will start to populate in Disgraceland. I'm not exactly
- 2:53Speaker 1: sure what the plan is for the bad Lands Feed yet,
- 2:55Speaker 1: how we're going to actually technically merge these But as
- 2:58Speaker 1: a creator from here on out, what I will be
- 3:01Speaker 1: creating is dark stories about icons, no matter whether they're
- 3:06Speaker 1: from the music industry, the world of sports, Hollywood, whatever. Okay,
- 3:11Speaker 1: it's all gonna happen in the disgrace Sland Feed. Perhaps
- 3:14Speaker 1: it'll happen elsewhere in the beginning until we get things
- 3:16Speaker 1: straightened out. But just so you know, we have an
- 3:18Speaker 1: insane amount of insane stories about legendary artists, athletes, writers, poets, chefs,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and of course musicians. Bands are bread and butter. It's
- 3:26Speaker 1: all coming your way in twenty twenty four and as
- 3:29Speaker 1: we broaden our scope. As I mentioned the last after party,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I want to hear from you guys who you want
- 3:36Speaker 1: to hear stories about Tuesday's episode. Yes, should have included
- 3:40Speaker 1: van Halen sorry admitted that by accident, not on purpose,
- 3:45Speaker 1: we're finalizing the second half of the year's subjects. So
- 3:49Speaker 1: speak now or forever hold your piece. Think big, think iconic,
- 3:52Speaker 1: Think the biggest names, the biggest crimes, the biggest scandals,
- 3:56Speaker 1: the biggest stories, and get at me. Six one seven
- 3:59Speaker 1: nine six, six, six three eight. First up in Disgraceland
- 4:04Speaker 1: this year in twenty twenty four. Our next episode is
- 4:08Speaker 1: on Surge Gainsburg. This has been a long time in
- 4:12Speaker 1: the works. And here's the sort of long, strange backstory
- 4:17Speaker 1: on the production side of this for us getting this
- 4:19Speaker 1: episode together. I spent the better part of four to
- 4:24Speaker 1: six weeks, not this past summer, the summer prior, so
- 4:28Speaker 1: summer twenty twenty two researching Surge Gainsburg, with the intent
- 4:33Speaker 1: of doing a full season on Surge Gainsburg that would
- 4:38Speaker 1: come out in France. It would be our first Disgraceland
- 4:41Speaker 1: international release in a foreign language. That was the plan.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Then the business side of it broke down and it
- 4:49Speaker 1: didn't happen. And this is the first time this happened
- 4:53Speaker 1: to me where I had all this sort of wasted
- 4:55Speaker 1: time and energy into one subject and nothing to really
- 4:59Speaker 1: show for it. And when it came time to write
- 5:01Speaker 1: the Surge Gainsburg episode single episode here for Disgrace Lam
- 5:04Speaker 1: that's coming at.
- 5:05Speaker 2: You next week.
- 5:06Speaker 1: I had just lost my stomach for it. I didn't
- 5:08Speaker 1: want to do it. I felt I felt spurned. I
- 5:10Speaker 1: felt like I felt like I was left at the
- 5:12Speaker 1: altar by Serge Gainsburg. Wasn't his fault, but you know
- 5:15Speaker 1: what I mean. So we handed it off to our
- 5:18Speaker 1: guys Zeth, who wrote this episode, and he crushed it
- 5:21Speaker 1: as usual. One of the things that I wanted to
- 5:25Speaker 1: make sure we achieved with the Surge Gainsburg episode that
- 5:27Speaker 1: again you're going to hear in a couple of days,
- 5:29Speaker 1: is you know. I have a very mixed take, very
- 5:33Speaker 1: love hate relationship with music biopics. I find some of
- 5:38Speaker 1: them to be just incredible. Recently saw The Maestro by
- 5:41Speaker 1: the Way with Bradley Cooper, and that's definitely falls in
- 5:44Speaker 1: the incredible camp. And some of them I find to
- 5:47Speaker 1: be just god awful. And even even ones that are
- 5:50Speaker 1: celebrated and loved by by most people, there's a lot
- 5:54Speaker 1: of them that I just don't like.
- 5:57Speaker 2: They try to do too much.
- 5:58Speaker 1: They tried to at times, They try to be too conventional,
- 6:02Speaker 1: and I feel like it hurts the drama of the
- 6:06Speaker 1: stories and these subjects. So I don't I don't want
- 6:08Speaker 1: to get into it. I've talked about this before, but
- 6:09Speaker 1: I found that the Surge Gainsburg biopic is one of
- 6:14Speaker 1: the best I've ever seen. It's called a Heroic Life,
- 6:18Speaker 1: and like I said, one of the best music biopicks
- 6:21Speaker 1: that I've ever seen.
- 6:22Speaker 2: It's incredible.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So I wanted to kind of do something that would
- 6:26Speaker 1: be in conversation. If we were going to do an
- 6:27Speaker 1: episode of disgracing on Surge Gainsburg, I wanted it to
- 6:30Speaker 1: be in conversation with that that biopick and this here
- 6:34Speaker 1: episode that we've produced certainly is I think so anyways,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and I hope you dig it. And if you don't
- 6:39Speaker 1: know who Surge Gainsburg is, well, you know, I kind
- 6:42Speaker 1: of I'm envious.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I wish I were you.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I wish I was getting introduced to Serge Gainsburg for
- 6:46Speaker 1: the first time. His music is going to blow your mind. French.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I don't even know how to explain who Surge Gainsburg
- 6:53Speaker 1: is in one brief sentence. French, krooner, eccentric, just no one,
- 7:00Speaker 1: great songwriter, incredible, Yeah, there's no real comp I want
- 7:05Speaker 1: to say, like the French Frank Sinatra, but that's not
- 7:07Speaker 1: even close. Just google Surge Gainsburg get into it. Lots
- 7:11Speaker 1: of controversy as well, lots of drama to his life,
- 7:15Speaker 1: and again just incredible music, great music. As we say,
- 7:19Speaker 1: after the Surge Gainsburg episode, we've got another episode coming
- 7:21Speaker 1: your way, another new episode, I should say, coming your
- 7:23Speaker 1: way on Stu Suckcliffe, Chapter nine in our Beatles series
- 7:28Speaker 1: here that we're informal series that we've got going Intosgrace
- 7:30Speaker 1: sand This will be the ninth episode we've done on
- 7:34Speaker 1: the Beatles. I joked in the last after party that
- 7:39Speaker 1: we were gonna stop after this because there was nowhere
- 7:41Speaker 1: left to go. And I got a great message from
- 7:44Speaker 1: from one of you listeners telling me that I in
- 7:46Speaker 1: no way should I stop. There's there's plenty of more
- 7:48Speaker 1: material to mine here. Maybe you're right. I don't know,
- 7:52Speaker 1: but Stu Suckcliffe, he was a monumental influence on the
- 7:57Speaker 1: Beatles and therefore on popular culture. And yeah, he was
- 8:02Speaker 1: one of the og members of the band for those
- 8:04Speaker 1: of you who don't know, and you're going to hear
- 8:06Speaker 1: his influence in this episode, and I think you're gonna
- 8:09Speaker 1: dig it. I think this is going to be a
- 8:11Speaker 1: great bookend to the episodes we've produced already. Obviously multiple
- 8:15Speaker 1: episodes on John Lennon. I think we did three on John.
- 8:18Speaker 1: We did one on Paul right, one on Paul, two
- 8:22Speaker 1: on the actual band from the early days and then
- 8:25Speaker 1: from the drug days, and then one on George, one
- 8:28Speaker 1: on Ringo, and damn, maybe we did two on Paul.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Because I'm coming up short here anyways, Stu Suckcliffe coming
- 8:35Speaker 1: your way. Can't wait for you to hear that. Then
- 8:36Speaker 1: We've also got a rewind episode coming that I've been
- 8:39Speaker 1: teasing for a couple of weeks now on Johnny Cash
- 8:41Speaker 1: coming your way tomorrow. That takes care of the programming
- 8:44Speaker 1: segment of this bonus episode. I will be back in
- 8:47Speaker 1: just a flash with some voicemails from you guys, some texts,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and yeah, maybe some emails as well.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Back in the flash.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Hey, we are back. Let's dive right into some voicemails.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Put the call out last week on some recommendation requests
- 9:24Speaker 1: from you guys. I want to know what you guys
- 9:26Speaker 1: want to hear for the new year. Six one seven,
- 9:28Speaker 1: nine oh six sixty six three eight. I'm still listening.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Let's check in with Ish here from the seven eighty one.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Jake, what up? It's your boy? Is what's happening? Happy
- 9:39Speaker 4: New Year? Some topics on some disgraceful people. I got
- 9:45Speaker 4: Marv Albert, I got run our test aka Meadow World Peace,
- 9:52Speaker 4: and maybe there's something there with David Blaine. Not quite
- 9:56Speaker 4: sure anyways, stay up homing it.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Ish, love it man. I specific I particularly like the
- 10:05Speaker 1: meta world Peace one, the Marv Albert perhaps at some point,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and David Blaine. I'm excited to look into this. And
- 10:11Speaker 1: I don't know anything about David Blaine, dude, but thanks
- 10:14Speaker 1: for putting it to the top of the list here.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I'll get into it.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Check it out all right, thanks for the voicemail, and
- 10:20Speaker 1: Happy New Year to you as well, my man. Let's
- 10:22Speaker 1: check out this one from the five a week.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Heyja, it's Mike from the five aweight, Long long, long
- 10:30Speaker 5: time listener from episode one. I am so excited to
- 10:35Speaker 5: hear grind Out for the next season. I'm wondering if
- 10:41Speaker 5: either in the latter half of this year or sometime
- 10:45Speaker 5: next year you can finally get around to doing an
- 10:49Speaker 5: episode on the day. Kennedys wish I have been requesting
- 10:53Speaker 5: for a while. Also, I'm wondering if now that disgrace
- 10:59Speaker 5: land bad lands are collapsing into one, I'm wondering about
- 11:03Speaker 5: doing special episodes on people who are have such outside
- 11:07Speaker 5: as egos that they've attempted sports and acting and music
- 11:14Speaker 5: ultra varying levels of success and disgrace. I'm thinking of,
- 11:19Speaker 5: let's say, check, I'm thinking of Marshall Man, Brandy Savage.
- 11:24Speaker 5: I'm thinking of Hulk Hogan, and what about Dennis Rodman,
- 11:29Speaker 5: who's even crazier than him, just saying, just floating it
- 11:33Speaker 5: out there, rock and ROLLA thanks by all right?
- 11:38Speaker 1: Five? Oh wait, love it man, good stuff. Specifically, really
- 11:42Speaker 1: like the Dennis Rodman recommendation. I think we can do
- 11:45Speaker 1: an episode on him, for sure. I even like the
- 11:47Speaker 1: Hulk Hogan one. I like it because of the whole
- 11:49Speaker 1: lawsuit thing that happened there a couple of years ago.
- 11:52Speaker 1: So great, Rex here, appreciate it. Keep them coming, all right,
- 11:56Speaker 1: Let's hear this voicemail from the five to.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Four to zero.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Okay, dude, I got one for you.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I got one for you. Jim Croche. He needs to
- 12:06Speaker 4: do him, at least tell the story. I mean, I
- 12:09Speaker 4: don't know what terrible join mothers goad. I believe that.
- 12:14Speaker 1: But anyway, so there you go.
- 12:16Speaker 4: There's nother one. Jim, oh yeah, don't bring Jack daitya.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Thank Jim Crochy. You know, great, great idea, great idea.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And by the way, have you seen that Jim Croche's kid.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I can't think of it.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I don't know his first name, but he's been touring,
- 12:32Speaker 1: uh the last couple of years, and he's been doing
- 12:35Speaker 1: his dad songs. I think that's all he does. And
- 12:38Speaker 1: hot damn does he look and sound exactly like his father.
- 12:41Speaker 1: It's really fucking eerie. So good the stuff I've heard
- 12:44Speaker 1: and seen is so good. I'd actually go see him,
- 12:47Speaker 1: I think. Anyways, I'm getting getting sidetracked. I love the
- 12:50Speaker 1: idea of Jim Crochey episode. I believe he died on
- 12:53Speaker 1: the same day Graham Parsons did, though I'm not totally sure. Actually,
- 12:57Speaker 1: I don't think it was the same exact day, but
- 12:59Speaker 1: it was right around the same time. And I know
- 13:00Speaker 1: it was around the same time because Rolling Stone ran
- 13:03Speaker 1: two obituaries side by side, Jim Crochy and Graham Parsons.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Not that I was alive to read Rolling Stone when
- 13:10Speaker 1: it came out when Jim Croce died. But I did
- 13:12Speaker 1: stay in the Joshua Tree in where Graham Parsons died
- 13:17Speaker 1: about ten years ago, actually more than that, probably about
- 13:20Speaker 1: twelve years ago now, and they had on the wall
- 13:22Speaker 1: the framed obituary from Rolling Stone with Graham Parsons and
- 13:25Speaker 1: Jim Crochy. So there's that, all right? Six one seven,
- 13:28Speaker 1: nine oh six, six sixty three eight. Hit me up
- 13:30Speaker 1: with your voicemails on which artists you want to hear
- 13:32Speaker 1: me cover next year. Let's do some texts, get a
- 13:34Speaker 1: lot of texts, and I still I just realized I
- 13:36Speaker 1: didn't hit any emails in that last block, and I
- 13:38Speaker 1: want to take care of that as well. All right,
- 13:40Speaker 1: six three al rights in, Hey, Jake, been listening since
- 13:42Speaker 1: the start, Giant fan. I hear you're doing a van
- 13:44Speaker 1: Halen episode. In an earlier episode, you broke my heart
- 13:47Speaker 1: saying you aren't a Sammy Hagar fan. I won't hold
- 13:49Speaker 1: it against you. I've seen over two hundred Hagar concerts,
- 13:52Speaker 1: whether it was Van Halen solo with the Wabbos, Chicken Foot,
- 13:54Speaker 1: et cetera. I've met him numerous times, and let's just
- 13:56Speaker 1: say he's my number one music guy. Yes, I'm a
- 14:00Speaker 1: i'd had Diehard super fan. Please be nice to Sammy
- 14:02Speaker 1: in the upcoming episode. I will continue to listen to
- 14:05Speaker 1: be nervously awaiting the Van Halen at Thanks for all
- 14:07Speaker 1: you do, rock a rolla and horns up bitches, Doctor
- 14:10Speaker 1: Sarah aka doctor Cabo, Well, doctor Cabo aka doctor Sarah.
- 14:16Speaker 1: I don't actively dislike Sammy Hagar. I just prefer Van
- 14:20Speaker 1: Halen to Van Hagar. But I do, I do, I do.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I do find myself as I get older. You know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: if one of those Van Halen songs with Sammy Hagar
- 14:29Speaker 1: comes on, I find myself turning it up and getting
- 14:31Speaker 1: into it in a way that I never did before.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I promise you I won't be completely neutral, but I
- 14:37Speaker 1: won't be excessively harsh on Sammy Hagar. All right, and
- 14:40Speaker 1: I appreciate your passion for him. Plus everything I've seen
- 14:43Speaker 1: with Sammy Hagar, I heard of him. I don't know
- 14:44Speaker 1: much about the guy, but every time I hear him talk,
- 14:46Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, this guy seems like a good dude.
- 14:48Speaker 1: All right, let's move on here. Three oh four rights in, sir,
- 14:51Speaker 1: I am honored. This is the Milkman. Jared Murray. I
- 14:54Speaker 1: sent the Jake motherfucking Brennan Land text in I'm glad
- 14:56Speaker 1: you liked it and chose to share it on the podcast.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I'm now immortalized one of the greatest podcasts ever made.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Thank you well, Jared the Milk Man, you are welcome.
- 15:04Speaker 2: Appreciate it all.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Right, let's see here the nine oh one rights in
- 15:09Speaker 1: just the Clintons, and you know, I think I'm going
- 15:13Speaker 1: to say this, and I think I mean what I'm
- 15:14Speaker 1: gonna say. I'm not going to cover any politics, any politicians,
- 15:18Speaker 1: just not going to do it. Maybe maybe going like
- 15:23Speaker 1: way way way way way, way, way, way way back,
- 15:27Speaker 1: but I'm not stepping into this line lions. Then it's
- 15:30Speaker 1: too gross and I'm too smart to do it. You
- 15:33Speaker 1: can get plenty of that Clinton stuff elsewhere, as you
- 15:35Speaker 1: can get the Kennedy stuff elsewhere, and the Bush stuff elsewhere,
- 15:38Speaker 1: and the Trump stuff elsewhere, and the fucking Biden stuff.
- 15:40Speaker 1: You can get it all. It's everywhere, man, it's everywhere.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I try to avoid that shit in my life. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: don't want to start trafficking in it.
- 15:46Speaker 2: But you know, I appreciate your text anyway.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Six to one nine rights in, Dude, Jake, been listening
- 15:51Speaker 1: since the start, and I love all your work. Never
- 15:53Speaker 1: recommended anyone, but I just realized one of my favorite
- 15:56Speaker 1: hip hop artists would be a perfect episode. Mac Dre
- 15:59Speaker 1: bank robbery beef with the Bay Area cops and Murder.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Keep up the great work, rock a rolla mac Dre.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I think I got a slot from mac Dre. I
- 16:07Speaker 1: think I do. Has been a lot of people who
- 16:08Speaker 1: have recommended mac Dre, and it's got to happen at
- 16:10Speaker 1: some point, all right. This one comes from the eight
- 16:13Speaker 1: six to two. Hey, Jake, LP. Also let me Killmeister?
- 16:18Speaker 1: Was their roadie Elp? Excuse me not LP?
- 16:22Speaker 2: That would be weird?
- 16:23Speaker 1: Uh Elp?
- 16:24Speaker 2: Who the fuck is Elp? I don't know this is this?
- 16:28Speaker 1: This goes in in a weird direction. Frankie Lineman, Okay,
- 16:31Speaker 1: I can get with that. Uh yeah, there's a lot here,
- 16:33Speaker 1: a lot here eight six to two. Appreciate it. I'll
- 16:35Speaker 1: get back to you. Offline nine oh six rites in
- 16:39Speaker 1: please Dave Mustang love Janet cross check from God's Area
- 16:42Speaker 1: Code the nine oh six. I don't understand half the text,
- 16:45Speaker 1: Dave Mustang, I understand, perhaps someday. Where's God's area code?
- 16:49Speaker 2: I want to know.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Let me know six one seven nine oh six six
- 16:52Speaker 1: six three eight voicemail text. Guys, let me know what
- 16:55Speaker 1: you want to hear in twenty twenty four, Which non
- 16:57Speaker 1: musical artists specifically you want me to cover. Also, you
- 17:00Speaker 1: got musicians, rock stars you're dying for me to get into.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Let us know, got half the year to program. We're
- 17:06Speaker 1: getting close. Dennis Rodman, though, love that one. I was
- 17:09Speaker 1: a damn good recommendation. All right, let's take a break.
- 17:12Speaker 1: We'll be back in a flash to do some emails.
- 17:28Speaker 1: All right, Let's check out this email from Joseph Rue
- 17:32Speaker 1: Jerry Rue, Jerry, I apologize Joseph if I'm pronouncing your
- 17:36Speaker 1: last name wrong, which I most certainly am. Subject says
- 17:40Speaker 1: reco message. If you're going beyond music and movies, how
- 17:43Speaker 1: about how about Sonny Barger, founder of the Hell's Angels.
- 17:47Speaker 1: How about I like being above ground there, Joseph and
- 17:49Speaker 1: I don't want to die? How about that? I don't
- 17:52Speaker 1: think we'll be covering Sonny. We got into him in
- 17:54Speaker 1: the Altemon episode in all seriousness, and we're actually writing
- 17:58Speaker 1: an episode right now where he's gonna make another appearance.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Hell's Angels are a complicated subject, as you know. But
- 18:06Speaker 1: there's a lot to dig into there, and I'd rather
- 18:08Speaker 1: do it tangentially than directly. Let's see it to another
- 18:11Speaker 1: email here, this one from Howard Cantoff, who writes in
- 18:15Speaker 1: subject Imagine drummer message, love the show. Just listen to
- 18:19Speaker 1: the Derek and the Dominoes slash Jim Gordon episode. Jim
- 18:23Speaker 1: was truly great and truly troubled. But the drummer on
- 18:26Speaker 1: Imagine is also great. Alan White later of, yes, Howard,
- 18:32Speaker 1: did I say that Jim Gordon was the drummer on Imagine.
- 18:35Speaker 1: If I did and I was wrong, then I apologize.
- 18:37Speaker 1: If I did and I was right, and you're wrong,
- 18:39Speaker 1: then you know whatever, Man, shit happens.
- 18:42Speaker 2: I get it.
- 18:43Speaker 1: More likely than not, it was probably me who made
- 18:45Speaker 1: the mistake. This happens, So yeah, appreciate the correction. We'll
- 18:50Speaker 1: figure this out. I'm doing this obviously in real time.
- 18:52Speaker 1: We'll figure out whether or not I misspoke, and we
- 18:55Speaker 1: will correct the record. If so, back at you soon, Howard.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Appreciate the tech.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Next.
- 19:01Speaker 1: Patrick Duncan writes in looking forward to the new season.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Fairly new to the podcast, So I've been playing ketchup,
- 19:05Speaker 1: which is a good thing, because hey, it's like having
- 19:07Speaker 1: one hundred new episodes all at once. Really excited to
- 19:10Speaker 1: hear your Lane and Chris episodes. Patrick's talking about Lane
- 19:13Speaker 1: Staley and Chris Cornell with Alison Chains and Soundgarden. Being
- 19:17Speaker 1: a Seattle music scene fan who lived the nineties, it's
- 19:21Speaker 1: always nice to take a trip down memory. Lane might
- 19:23Speaker 1: be a little bit of a deep cut or maybe
- 19:25Speaker 1: a Seattle episode, but Andrew Wood from Mother Love Bone
- 19:28Speaker 1: and Me as a Potter from the Gets might make
- 19:30Speaker 1: a good episode. Me as a pot has been on
- 19:32Speaker 1: the list Patrick since the very beginning, and I have
- 19:35Speaker 1: uh man, I just you know, I gotta do it.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I gotta do it. At some point it'll happen. Lance
- 19:41Speaker 1: Boardman writes in great podcast, keep them coming. Love the
- 19:44Speaker 1: expansion to non music stories. Check out the history of
- 19:47Speaker 1: the TV show Heaw Really the band? Oh I knew this.
- 19:51Speaker 1: The banjo player string Bean was killed by a hammer
- 19:53Speaker 1: and the skull. I didn't know that string Bean. I know,
- 19:55Speaker 1: I know of the string Bean story. I didn't associate
- 20:00Speaker 1: him with he Haw, though I thought he was earlier
- 20:01Speaker 1: than that. Uh yeah, this is this is interesting. Thanks
- 20:06Speaker 1: appreciate this, Lance appreciate it. Lance Boardman emailing us up.
- 20:09Speaker 1: Thanks dude, Moe writes in, Hey, just a suggestion, Banksy,
- 20:13Speaker 1: love the show, thank you for the content. And the
- 20:15Speaker 1: email is the email address is pretty mysterious. So maybe
- 20:18Speaker 1: this is actually maybe this is actually Banksy emailing us.
- 20:23Speaker 1: You know, his ego striking out. He wants he wants
- 20:25Speaker 1: to disgrace Slagne episode. You know, we could just do
- 20:28Speaker 1: a massive attack episode Banksy, you know, might cover you
- 20:32Speaker 1: that way. Hint, hint, Guys, pick up what I'm putting
- 20:35Speaker 1: down there, all right, disgracelaandpod at gmail dot com. That's
- 20:38Speaker 1: how you get at me. We're in recommendations mode here.
- 20:41Speaker 1: We're taking recommendations for this upcoming second half of our
- 20:45Speaker 1: programming slate, so definitely want to hear from you guys,
- 20:49Speaker 1: but also want to do some recommendations myself. All right,
- 20:51Speaker 1: This is, as you know, the recommendations part, the part
- 20:54Speaker 1: of the show where we recommend the things that need recommending,
- 20:56Speaker 1: specifically on the music front.
- 20:58Speaker 2: All right.
- 20:59Speaker 1: During the last episode, we talked about Fred Neil in
- 21:01Speaker 1: his song The Dolphins. I want to give you some
- 21:04Speaker 1: more songs. I want to give you some more songs
- 21:06Speaker 1: that are in the same space that I've been listening
- 21:10Speaker 1: to throughout the week. There's a great song by an
- 21:12Speaker 1: artist that I know nothing about called f J.
- 21:14Speaker 2: McMahon. It's called Early Blue. Check that out.
- 21:17Speaker 1: This next song. I don't really know how to pronounce
- 21:21Speaker 1: the artist's name, but I've been listening to this song.
- 21:24Speaker 1: It's in the same vibe as the Fred Neil tune.
- 21:27Speaker 1: I've been listening to this for about five years now.
- 21:30Speaker 1: It's a much older song, but I got to hit
- 21:31Speaker 1: to it about five years ago. It's called Kala My
- 21:34Speaker 1: Friend by amanas Ama and A Z. You might know
- 21:38Speaker 1: this when you hear it, all right. Also, we talked
- 21:40Speaker 1: a little bit a couple of weeks ago about Jjkale
- 21:44Speaker 1: and I solicited some Jjkal info from you guys, and
- 21:48Speaker 1: someone was nice enough to write in sort of a
- 21:50Speaker 1: list of recommendations from Jjkal and this album particularly Naturally
- 21:56Speaker 1: Jjkal has a lot of material, but this record Naturally
- 21:58Speaker 1: by Jjkale, this has on it. You'll recognize. You might
- 22:01Speaker 1: not recognize the original JJ Kale versions that are on it,
- 22:03Speaker 1: but call Me the Breeze, which was covered by Leonard Skinner.
- 22:07Speaker 1: You're going to recognize that After Midnight, which was covered
- 22:10Speaker 1: by of course Eric Clapton. You'll recognize that as well.
- 22:12Speaker 1: And the vibe on this record, the feel is just
- 22:16Speaker 1: it's incredible. It's just it's totally totally, totally unique. Also
- 22:23Speaker 1: because it seems that I'm in this heavy, sort of seventies,
- 22:28Speaker 1: seventies mellow kind of inspirational vibe right now, spiritual vibe
- 22:33Speaker 1: when it comes to listening to music. My wife has
- 22:35Speaker 1: got me listening to the great sugy Otis Inspiration Information,
- 22:39Speaker 1: amazing album. Check that out if you have not heard it,
- 22:42Speaker 1: you will love it. Also, another great record by sugary
- 22:45Speaker 1: Otis called Freedom Fight.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Check that out.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Just amazing stuff, amazing vibe. It's all about the vibe
- 22:51Speaker 1: for me lately. I might have mentioned a couple weeks
- 22:54Speaker 1: ago that I've been struggling with what to show my
- 22:57Speaker 1: nine year old for films that appropriate, but just not
- 23:01Speaker 1: kid films, you know what I mean, some adult stuff
- 23:03Speaker 1: that I like.
- 23:03Speaker 2: So we broke down.
- 23:04Speaker 1: We showed them Rushmore, how to fast forward through a
- 23:07Speaker 1: couple parts that led me down the Rushmore soundtrack rabbit Hole,
- 23:12Speaker 1: which I'm sure most of you know, and just get
- 23:15Speaker 1: me into a heavy Kinks phase. And you know, the
- 23:18Speaker 1: Kinks have so much stuff from so many different eras,
- 23:22Speaker 1: and I'm here for all of it. I love all
- 23:24Speaker 1: of it. Hit me with some weird Kinks recommendations, though, Okay,
- 23:29Speaker 1: I know this is kind of a deep cut for
- 23:30Speaker 1: you guys. Six one seven nine oh six sixty six
- 23:32Speaker 1: three eight. I want the weirdo Kink stuff because I
- 23:34Speaker 1: feel like I'm a little too basic when it comes
- 23:36Speaker 1: to the Kink's repertoire. Six one seven nine oh six
- 23:39Speaker 1: six six three eight. Appreciate you, guys, and appreciate your recommendations.
- 23:43Speaker 1: Keep them coming. I'm going to take a quick break
