- 1:46be getting in touch with you to get that sent to you gentlemen.
- 1:51Gentlemen, how are we doing on a winning Tuesday?
- 1:55Busy, busy, busy. It's been a it's been a little
- 1:59bit of a busy day for me, buddy, but we are we're back at it
- 2:04again. It is a victory Tuesday wasn't
- 2:11an inspiring victory Tuesday, but a win is a win is a win is a
- 2:16win, especially when it keeps you in the ACC hunt.
- 2:23I'm with Brian when he says busy.
- 2:24So football season is over for us here in my household.
- 2:30My son is done with JV football, so he's moved on to basketball.
- 2:36So we're getting ready for basketball season to start up.
- 2:39But you know who's not done with football?
- 2:42The Hokies. They're still winning three in
- 2:45one in conference play, another win.
- 2:49I'll take them any way we can get them 21 to six win over
- 2:53Georgia Tech. So yeah, feeling good, man.
- 2:57Back in the saddle with my guys. Chad is already going.
- 3:03Got somebody commentating in the chat saying the podcast will
- 3:07start momentarily. Hey, we already getting it.
- 3:12We we ready to roll. We.
- 3:15Already it has. Begun and all these folks
- 3:18putting this in, we appreciate it.
- 3:20I appreciate that guys. By the way, Steven, I get it,
- 3:24man, Don't worry. Don't worry, Steven, it's going
- 3:27to be on YouTube for you or on your favorite podcast source
- 3:31tomorrow. Well, let's get into telling the
- 3:33truth on this Tuesday, as we do talk about a 26 to 6V over
- 3:38Georgia Tech first thing. The first time since 2012.
- 3:43We'll say that again. The first time since 2012.
- 3:48My son and Brian's son had not been born the last time we beat
- 3:54Georgia Tech at home. That's not a lie.
- 3:57That's not a lie. That's.
- 3:59Crazy. Since they were born and the way
- 4:03I look at it, and y'all kind of said it, we're talking about a
- 4:06win tonight. We're not talking about a loss
- 4:09even though we played like crap. But I'm going to put John on.
- 4:13One side of the ball. 01 side of the ball.
- 4:16Hey, hey. I I don't have a ton of a a ton
- 4:19of nitpicks on the defense. I think offense was definitely
- 4:23uninspired outside of just being absolute hammers in the red
- 4:27zone. Danny, we'll talk about that.
- 4:30But I like what our buddy John Le Cook said.
- 4:33It was a Brian Stein spring win. And you know what?
- 4:36I'm sitting here. Go back in your memory, Banks,
- 4:39everybody, those who are older, that was a Brian Stein spring
- 4:42win. Get a couple explosive plays,
- 4:45get it in the red zone, score, touchdowns, defense forces some
- 4:51turnovers, forces some. Stop that, that.
- 4:55That looked like a 2007 win in some cases.
- 4:58Not even bullshit. Yeah, and, and I mean, other
- 5:03than, you know, I, I think we were probably a little less
- 5:07efficient in the run game that I think a lot of us anticipated
- 5:10we'd be in that game. I think, you know, we we knew
- 5:12that Georgia Tech was good up front and we knew that more than
- 5:15likely they're going to get in there and load the box and force
- 5:20us to beat them through the air, which, you know, isn't their
- 5:25strong suit defensively. But I think it's a good, it's
- 5:28it, you know it, it's a good game plan against, you know what
- 5:31we're doing right now just because we've been OK in the
- 5:36past game, but we have not hit the home runs in the past game
- 5:40that we would like to hit. And until we start taking the
- 5:44top off a little bit more, that's how teams are going to
- 5:45play us. No, I agree.
- 5:49I agree totally. I mean, I'll go ahead, Curtis.
- 5:53Well, I was gonna say that's the stuff that went bad.
- 5:55Hold that tight. Let's talk about what went.
- 5:57We're good tally. Let's talk about the defense
- 6:00man, because first of all, Tally and Brian did not get to to ride
- 6:05the Curtis Wilson roller coaster on Saturday afternoon because
- 6:09Curtis Wilson was at a baseball game literally from the time the
- 6:13game started to pretty much me getting in my car and hearing
- 6:16Bill Roth talking Jalen Jones pick.
- 6:19So they didn't get to ride it. Tally, I appreciate all the
- 6:22updates on Saturday. You kept me sane and not pulling
- 6:25out my phone every 4 seconds to check the score.
- 6:28So what did you see from the defense Saturday?
- 6:34Hammers, man, like Brian said, Hammers is just, they were
- 6:40hidden, they were physical, went back, got against the wall, you
- 6:44know, they bounced off that wall and fought back, got in the
- 6:48corner and fought out like dogs. They didn't let nobody get in
- 6:52the end zone. You know what was the last time
- 6:55we could say that? You know, every time that it
- 6:57looked like something bad was going to happen, the defense
- 7:01stood up and stopped it. So that was definitely good to
- 7:04see because again, like Brian said, the office left a lot to
- 7:08be desired. So defense stepped up and did
- 7:11their job. And guess what, man?
- 7:12That's part of what a good team has to do.
- 7:14You struggle in one area, you pick it up in another area.
- 7:18Yep. And I think the big thing for me
- 7:20was watching, you know, kind of the success they were having
- 7:23getting off the field when they needed to a lot of the times
- 7:25there. So, you know, that was
- 7:28important. We had talked about it being a
- 7:29key. They did well with that.
- 7:32And I think that's that's something that we can keep that
- 7:34up and get the offense back the ball, even if they don't do a
- 7:37whole lot with it. You know, you, you keep getting
- 7:40the getting the team frustrated, keep stealing the momentum back,
- 7:44keeping them off off their off their schedule.
- 7:47You know, good things are going to come because we know that
- 7:49this offense has some weapons. So if the defense can keep doing
- 7:52stuff like that, I think that'll eventually, you know, work,
- 7:56work, work its way back into shape.
- 7:59And Brian, you mentioned it, the money down 6 for 20, they got
- 8:03zero fourth down conversions and it was something like 6 for 15
- 8:07or 6 for 16. I got to pull up the exact stats
- 8:10like they couldn't get much done on 3rd like they.
- 8:13'D get 6 for 20. 6 for 20 total on money.
- 8:16So on 3rd and 4th down. I mean, I'll take that every day
- 8:19twice on Sundays. Let me ask you all this because
- 8:23again, I I watched it condensed and I saw some highlights and
- 8:26some things here and there. But in y'all's opinion and and
- 8:30coach pride mentioned it, but he's actually mentioned the last
- 8:32couple weeks why and and y'all played so y'all can see things
- 8:37and that I don't see why the run fits getting better like why?
- 8:41Like, what has changed really in this last month where he's
- 8:48chuckling over here? So I'm going to let Brian start.
- 8:50Hey, there's already been a comment about it.
- 8:52What's changed? I mean, we kind of know what's
- 8:54changed. Oh, you're talking about that
- 8:57right there. Yeah, Keller has been the the
- 9:02prophecy has finally been fulfilled.
- 9:07It, it took three years and, and we finally got to a point where
- 9:11now we can say that Jane Keller is a starting linebacker,
- 9:15quality player for this defense. And he's always had the physical
- 9:20tools and it, it, it's really just been the mental piece.
- 9:24And for all the, you know, we bring in Brumfield.
- 9:28I think Brumfield has been a solid, if not spectacular
- 9:33addition to the defense. But what he has done is given
- 9:37Keller someone to learn from and someone to be a sounding board
- 9:43for those mental aspects of playing linebacker at this level
- 9:46that he he didn't have at all last year.
- 9:51And, you know, he had in a in a different capacity before that.
- 9:55So I think that's been kind of a levelling thing for him.
- 10:01And, and, and we're starting to see as the season's going on and
- 10:04he's getting, you know, some more interactions there start
- 10:08starting to see that come to fruition and starting to see him
- 10:10really put the pieces together mentally.
- 10:14Because like I said, he's always had those physical traits.
- 10:16He's he's very athletic, he's got good length.
- 10:19He's the type of guy that you want to see in the middle of a
- 10:21defense. And he's starting to have the
- 10:24the the mentals to back that up and be able to go out there and
- 10:27leave the the middle of the defense.
- 10:31Thank you, Tyler, what are you seeing?
- 10:33Yeah, no, kind of what Brian saying, but you also got to add
- 10:36on just the more and more people play together, they get better
- 10:39continuity. You kind of know what somebody's
- 10:41going to be. You feel them kind of playoff of
- 10:44them, playoff their energy. Kiante Jenkins is playing well.
- 10:48He's coming up hitting people, you know, kind of what we knew
- 10:50it could be, but it's not that hit somebody and then he's hurt
- 10:53for two series after that and he's hopping up, he's talking
- 10:57junk, getting back to the huddle, coming back doing again.
- 11:00I think he led us in tackles on on Saturday.
- 11:04So, you know, watching these guys that we know had some
- 11:08talent take just another step is is good.
- 11:12That's what you want to see. That's why the fits are getting
- 11:14better. And I think Brumfield has a lot
- 11:16to do with that. Just showing people how to be a
- 11:19pro. What he lacks in size, he makes
- 11:21up in, you know, experience and just professionalism.
- 11:28You know, you can hear him speak.
- 11:30I'm sure he's in that room telling the guys how to prepare
- 11:33for games and showing them how to prepare for games.
- 11:36And that's why you see somebody like, you know, Jayden Keller
- 11:38take the next step. Yep, and I'll tell you something
- 11:42else y'all saying that I'm also looking at the depth at
- 11:46linebackers. Another reason too, because if
- 11:49you stay fresher, you won't be a sloppy, right?
- 11:52You won't be a sloppy. Georgia Tech had 81 snaps total
- 11:59snaps. They passed the ball a lot
- 12:00because they were down a lot. But you want to know something.
- 12:03You want to know of the linebackers who played the most
- 12:06snaps. And I do consider County Jenkins
- 12:09a linebacker. Probably Jenkins or Woodson.
- 12:16Jenkins and Woodson, Guess what they both did 1 did 62, one did
- 12:2160. So there were 20 plus snaps.
- 12:25They weren't on the field. Lawson got 21.
- 12:29Brumfield got 22, Caleb Spencer got 15, and you got where is it?
- 12:37Jaden Keller got 59. So it's not only that, it's the
- 12:42one, the Unit 1 doing its job, Unit 2.
- 12:45And the way they're mixing and matching, they're staying fresh.
- 12:48We we truly do have a linebacker rotation where I think us three,
- 12:53if we were to say it and I were to say, hey guys, we're going to
- 12:55put Brunfield, we're going to put Lawson and we're going to
- 12:58quit Spencer out. You'll be like, OK, that's three
- 13:02good players that can make plays.
- 13:05It's not like this anymore. Who's on the field?
- 13:08Oh, man, that ain't good. They going to do something
- 13:11stupid and I think that's helping as well that those guys,
- 13:15you said italic, they're all comfortable together and now
- 13:18regardless of combination, they're all getting comfortable.
- 13:22The other thing, Saturday, I know some people might consider
- 13:25this a high number. I look at percentages.
- 13:27We only had eight missed tackles on 81 snaps under 10, right at
- 13:3110%, take 10% all day. On a game like that with 80 plus
- 13:36snaps now you take 10% on 50 maybe not, but 80?
- 13:40I'd take that. And I think, you know, you said,
- 13:43I mean, you're going 6 deep at linebacker now.
- 13:45And I think some of that, yeah, I think at the start of the year
- 13:48there was some some hamming and hawing about the, you know,
- 13:52cross, cross positional play there and things of that nature.
- 13:56But, you know, we're starting to see that level out a little bit.
- 13:59And now we now we're seeing again, we got got 60, we got two
- 14:04guys in just about every spot in there that can go out there and
- 14:06give you significant snaps and not really feel it, feel bad
- 14:09about that, that exposure for them now that's key.
- 14:14That is key. All right, one last piece I want
- 14:17to talk about here and Tally, you mentioned it, but I didn't.
- 14:21I want to know if you knew it was this good.
- 14:23You mentioned every time they got backed up because they
- 14:25pushed us to the red zone a couple times more than a couple
- 14:28times after the game Saturday. This is the fourth ranked red
- 14:33zone defense in the country. They know it was that good.
- 14:37That good and especially and start thinking about the last
- 14:42even the last few weeks what happened to BC where literally
- 14:45they started in the red zone and scored.
- 14:48They never got down there in any other time and then go back to
- 14:51Stanford and even Miami. They only had like one inside
- 14:56the red zone. So this defense is it's it's not
- 15:01only a bend but not break, but in some cases it's effectively
- 15:05you're not even getting past the 50 if the sacks are going on,
- 15:09you're punting a lot and you have what happened on 3rd down.
- 15:13Hey, Brian, you alluded to this law earlier.
- 15:14One other thing that went well, red zone offense and anything.
- 15:19Anything y'all are seeing or what y'all are liking?
- 15:26I mean, I think the big thing is that just clutch play, man.
- 15:31You know, when we're looking at it, it seems like this defense
- 15:34tends to come up with some big plays in the red zone when we
- 15:37need them. Whether it's to get off the
- 15:38field, force a field goal, whether it's a key turnover,
- 15:42whether it's a big stop on a fourth and one or fourth and
- 15:45short. I mean, they seem to always just
- 15:47have the right the right call in there when we need it.
- 15:52And that's been that's been big, I think in, in, in the games in
- 15:57the last month, but obviously big in a game like this Saturday
- 16:00where your offense wasn't doing a whole lot.
- 16:04You needed those stops in order to feel like you could keep the
- 16:07game at arm's length. And that's kind of what what I
- 16:09felt like we did in this game. You know, we, we never really,
- 16:13we didn't dominate. We definitely didn't dominate
- 16:15from a just pure yard standpoint, but we always kept
- 16:18them at arm's length throughout the game and that was really on
- 16:21the defense and especially on that red zone defense.
- 16:27Tally. No, I agree.
- 16:29I mean, again, just kind of like, like Brian said, you know,
- 16:33keeping it at at arm's length defense, just going out, playing
- 16:40hard, being able to rotate those guys in often is doing just
- 16:45enough for us to put the points on the board and and and take
- 16:50the game. So you kind of seen it man where
- 16:52we the defence is like they was trying to give the offense a
- 16:56kick in the butt sometimes you know what I'm saying?
- 16:57It's like OK, y'all messed up here.
- 17:00You, you made a bad play here, you did this.
- 17:02Then we come back with a we come back with a pick, you know, give
- 17:06it to your plus territory. We come back with a special
- 17:09teams play, give it to you in plus territory.
- 17:11It's like OK, go do something with it.
- 17:13So just just kept, just kept grinding, man, Just kept
- 17:17grinding. All right, I'm going to make
- 17:19this real quick. And as we go over, because there
- 17:21were some bad things and even though we won the game, you
- 17:25always got to look at we got to improve on.
- 17:27Do you all know this? The last three games, 11 for 11
- 17:32inside the red zone, 11 did. Not know.
- 17:35That 11 for 11, you know, the last time we haven't, we didn't
- 17:38score inside the red zone. Who was that?
- 17:43What? What's the play that pissed you
- 17:45off the most in the last game? Was it Miami?
- 17:49Is that fucking fake field goal that the last time we did not
- 17:53score in the red zone was right there?
- 17:56We scored in the red zone one time against them.
- 17:58Makes you a little bit upset because you think how we're
- 18:02doing it. Like if we would have just ran a
- 18:04normal play, we score a touchdown and that game is
- 18:06history. All right, let's go over to the
- 18:09offensive line and let's talk about the definitely the
- 18:12troubles are reappearing there. Brian, you looked at some film
- 18:19and what happened because obviously we 14 pressures on 31
- 18:26drop backs. That's way too much, but 111 of
- 18:33the 117 were after contact. So this wasn't just a pass pro
- 18:37issue, this was a run block issue as well and if we don't
- 18:40have guys like Tooting and drones who are absolute hosses
- 18:43to take down, this would not have been good.
- 18:47Yeah, I mean, I when you look at it, it's a it's a combination of
- 18:50things here. The offensive line obviously
- 18:54didn't have a great game, but what the defense was doing, they
- 18:58were absolutely selling out for the run.
- 18:59And they were basically saying, Kyron, you got to beat us,
- 19:03especially in the intermediate and in deep areas of the field.
- 19:07They were trying to take away as much of the short stuff as they
- 19:10could and take away as much as the run as they could.
- 19:12They did a pretty good job of doing that.
- 19:15But you know, at at the same time, you know, you got to be
- 19:18able to take advantage of what the defense is giving you.
- 19:22And they were giving us throws down the field and we did not do
- 19:25a good job of taking advantage of that.
- 19:26Some of that was offensive line not giving Kyron in time.
- 19:29Some of that was Kyron missing a couple of those shots down the
- 19:32field when he had those one-on-one situations.
- 19:35Some of that was just a combination of play calling and
- 19:37just not not getting guys in spots of the field where Kyron
- 19:41could get comfortable. And I think that's kind of the
- 19:43the theme of the day is that we never, I think had a chance
- 19:46offensively to get Kyron really comfortable in the passing game
- 19:49in in those timing areas. And that kind of threw off his
- 19:54game as a whole when we look at him throwing the football deeper
- 19:57down the field. What about you?
- 20:03I don't know if you got to hear Brian, you got unfortunately
- 20:05disconnected there, but you know, couldn't run, struggles
- 20:10passing. We looked at the PFF and some of
- 20:15these guys got really good grades and they may have overall
- 20:17did fine, but overall as a unit, something we talked about and I
- 20:23think this is the truth, why you can't always judge PFF.
- 20:25We were talking about it before we got on the night tally.
- 20:27Me, you and Brian. PFF never counts for like the
- 20:32big plays that screwed things up.
- 20:34It's just did you win or did you lose?
- 20:36Because you could win on 30 drop backs, you could win 20 of them.
- 20:41But what if the 10 you gave up three sacks that took you out of
- 20:45scoring range, that stopped drives?
- 20:47That's a hell of a lot more negative than somebody, you
- 20:50know, giving up a slight pressure.
- 20:52Yeah, there's there's no weight, there's no weight attached to
- 20:55the to the to the play by play grade.
- 20:57So. But what, what do you think,
- 20:59Charlie? You, you, you got to see the
- 21:00game live in the moment. So and I know you, you listen to
- 21:04Brian and and you do second reviews yourself, but what was
- 21:07wrong with the offensive line with you?
- 21:10Kind of like, I mean, Thomas kind of hit it on the hit the
- 21:13nail on the head a little bit in in the chat when you talk about
- 21:16the slow developing pass plays, things like that, you know,
- 21:21predictable play calling sometimes that's the main two
- 21:26things. We'll just say that the slow
- 21:28developing pass plays where first play of the game, you drop
- 21:35Karen back to do whatever. We don't even get to see it
- 21:38because he's hit 10 yard loss and fumbles the ball.
- 21:44Thank the Lord we got on it. Like you just don't need that.
- 21:48You know, you don't need that. That's not what we do.
- 21:52Well, that's not what he does. Well, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:57I just think we can do some things different and then it
- 22:00goes to the next one. What I said, predictable play
- 22:02calling, which is might be what they were trying to do.
- 22:04Hey, let's you know, everybody's seen this.
- 22:06Let's do something different. Georgia Techs defensive and
- 22:11offensive line were were really good like they're they're
- 22:14they're solid. I was going to say they're
- 22:16really good, but they're solid. They're going to be when we look
- 22:19back on this, we're going to go, hey, that was one of the better
- 22:21lines that we face. That was one of the better
- 22:24defensive lines that we face. They're very physical.
- 22:28They they were tough. You know what I'm saying that
- 22:30you can tell that they're well coached.
- 22:32So it starts in the churches and sometimes we just got, you know,
- 22:37you don't get beat and the only thing you can do to beat a
- 22:42better player on that play is to out scheming, which we did.
- 22:48And we got some points when we out schemed them.
- 22:52So, you know, I'll take that. But yeah, the slow development
- 22:56plays and predictable play calling sometimes because I
- 22:58mean, you got to thank Tude had 80 yards and it was that was a
- 23:01tough 80 yards to get. But a lot of the plays that he
- 23:05was running and they would that we ran for him, we're plays that
- 23:10we've run all year. And like if you're a decent
- 23:12defensive coordinator, like you see the motions and you see the
- 23:16different setups and you like, I know what's coming here.
- 23:18You know what I'm saying? Like so got to find a way to
- 23:22throw some wrinkles in there and do some different things like
- 23:24that. Yeah.
- 23:26And and, and, and that's why I kind of going to pivot to what
- 23:27we're going to go to next and it's talking about the offensive
- 23:29play calling because I mean, first of all, the, the what have
- 23:34we been saying? We cannot be a 5050 team.
- 23:37We were a 5050 team Saturday and we won.
- 23:41Thank you. Because I mean, the honest truth
- 23:44is it's a, it's a, it's a prayer.
- 23:46We won. But my thing is, and I want to
- 23:49talk to you all about this because I'm sitting here
- 23:52watching condensed, watching some highlights and I see what
- 23:56Georgia Tech's doing. And I know like, we shut them
- 23:59down. Who cares what they're doing if
- 24:02we attacked? Like that we would look good
- 24:04doing that. We would.
- 24:06It would have been 42 six. Right, rolling the pocket, you
- 24:12know, dumping off into the flats, hitting the crossing
- 24:16routes, you know, different things like that, Yeah.
- 24:20Yeah. I mean, that's kind of what I
- 24:21was alluding to. And I was talking about we
- 24:22didn't do enough early in the game to get Kyron comfortable
- 24:26because I mean, we talked about it on here before and and I'll
- 24:29keep preaching. I mean, when, when Kyron has
- 24:32confidence early in a game, he is a different football player.
- 24:35He is one of the best quarterbacks that you could have
- 24:39in the country. When he is confident early in a
- 24:41football game, when he doesn't get that early confidence, you
- 24:46know, he, he, he's, he's, he can be very average at times.
- 24:50And, and when, when that happens, you know, as a
- 24:54coordinator, you got to take a cue there and understand that
- 24:58I've got to get him comfortable. I've got to get him early wins.
- 25:02And I don't think you know totality to your point that that
- 25:05opening play call, you know, it's aggression and it's a
- 25:09little bit off your normal schedule.
- 25:12But at the same time it it probably plays into Kyron's
- 25:17biggest weakness as a thrower and your offense's biggest
- 25:20weakness as a whole in terms of drop back pass protection.
- 25:23So, you know, you kind of played a little bit into the defense's
- 25:27hands, even though you were mixing up what, what your normal
- 25:32script would be. So you know that that kind of
- 25:35puts you behind the chains early and then you don't really kind
- 25:38of get into a good offensive rhythm until later in the in the
- 25:42first quarter there. And, and I think that that's a
- 25:46big thing for this Virginia Tech offense is that you've seen
- 25:49anytime we start early, we score points, anytime we don't start
- 25:54early, it's it's a slog. And, and so that's, that's
- 25:58something to keep an eye on and that's something to monitor.
- 26:02And I think as a coaching staff, you got to address and say, we
- 26:05got to give this offense the chance to get some of those wins
- 26:09early. I mean, it doesn't always have
- 26:10to be the first drive. Like sometimes you just go have
- 26:12drives where they got your number right at the gate, but
- 26:15you got to find ways to get your quarterback comfortable in the
- 26:17passing game. So you can lean on your run game
- 26:21because that is the strength of your team.
- 26:23But if you're not able to get your quarterback comfortable,
- 26:27that's when the defense can tee up in the box and, and, and take
- 26:31away your biggest asset, which is that rushing attack.
- 26:35Well, let me ask this Brian and and I and I hit you up solo on
- 26:39this and Batali chime in as well.
- 26:41When they got to load in the box and you could see it, me
- 26:44watching condensed, you could see 7-8 guys around the box.
- 26:48They knew where we were running the ball at times and what I
- 26:51didn't see were hot routes, quick throws, you know, like you
- 26:55say, Tally, just just something in the flat.
- 26:57They got aid in the box. If you're doing anything like
- 27:00pulling Basil out or Jay Lane to the flat or you're running a
- 27:03quick slant or a quick hitch or a quick out, sometimes that goes
- 27:08completely out of the playbook. Where I feel like we sit here, I
- 27:12listen to y'all and y'all would say if you just ran A4 yard
- 27:16slant where that linebacker snuck down into the box to Jay
- 27:19Lane. If the if the quarterback ain't
- 27:22right on his hip and that safety don't make the right step, see
- 27:26you, you're giving a 50 yard play.
- 27:29And and I feel like we're not seeing that as much this year.
- 27:32At least I'm not again, my eyes aren't as trained as y'all's.
- 27:36Like we saw at times last year. Always go back to the Wake
- 27:38Forest play and it was like a 8 yard slant.
- 27:41They loaded the box. There was one safety up, the
- 27:45little RPO. That safety did a false step.
- 27:49Kyron put it right on Jay Lane and he housed it for 70 yards.
- 27:52And it's like, if you're going to loosen, why aren't?
- 27:56And Sheldon said it last week, and this is what irritates me.
- 27:59Kyron's intermediate passing game has gotten so much better
- 28:02this year. And it's like we just abandoned
- 28:04it. Abandoned first play of the
- 28:07game. We're going to go with a double
- 28:08move. Well, why don't you go with a
- 28:10play action like a crosser or Benji up the scene, like
- 28:14something where, you know, this is his comfort zone and it's
- 28:18like they try to go away from it and then we screw around and
- 28:21next thing you know, we're all sitting here, man, we going to
- 28:23do something stupid. We're going to lose this game.
- 28:25They making brown smoke cigarettes.
- 28:26They make me slip on the bottle at the baseball game tally.
- 28:30I don't know what you're doing, but we all doing something, try
- 28:33to calm ourselves down, you know?
- 28:35Sorry, pacing through the house with my shirt off.
- 28:37Hey, that's what I'm doing. You know, and, and, and for that
- 28:41first down play like, let's call something like 1/2 roll and you
- 28:45know, get, get like 1/2 field read, do like a, you know, a, a,
- 28:51a go route with a deep crosser. You know, something where you
- 28:55get, you know, 11 read 2 read, check down.
- 29:00And and and make that something where if Kyron, if it ain't
- 29:04there, if he's got pressure, he can easily get rid of the
- 29:06football and and and play another down instead of having a
- 29:10guy in his face ball on the ground and you know, thankfully
- 29:14gets back on it. Yeah, I don't.
- 29:16I mean, again, I'm not going to get on Tebow too much because
- 29:19some of it is execution from what I see.
- 29:22I have to put stuff on players, but players play, you know,
- 29:25can't miss blocks, can't miss people running wide open across
- 29:28the middle of the field, different things like that.
- 29:31But I will say, just looking at the team, I feel like Chris Marv
- 29:39knows what the identity is and he tries to stick to that.
- 29:43You know, he knows what his defensive identity is and for
- 29:47good or for bad, he's leaning into it and you can see him
- 29:51building on it each week. Now with our offense, I see us,
- 29:57it's kind of like we got a lot of shiny toys and whichever 1 is
- 30:01got new batteries, that's the one we use that week, you know
- 30:04what I'm saying? Like sometimes I kind of feel
- 30:05like that's how it is. And on one hand, you do need to
- 30:08see some different plays. Like I've seen some different
- 30:10plays that I haven't seen, you know, in in two years, you know,
- 30:14this game. Hey, we.
- 30:15Got a Philly special? Yeah, Philly Special flea
- 30:19flicker. You know, I've seen a couple
- 30:21things like that. But also to do all that stuff,
- 30:24you still have to have our identity.
- 30:26You know what I'm saying? I still feel like we're trying
- 30:28to we're struggling to lean into that identity.
- 30:33So we got to do it. We we got to know what makes us
- 30:38good. We got to lead into that.
- 30:40And then some of the other stuff that can come off of that.
- 30:42So again, I compared like, you know, offense to defense of Marv
- 30:45to Tebow, but he both got his hands full because when we're
- 30:51good, we're good. When we're bad, we're bad on
- 30:53offense, you know what I'm saying?
- 30:54So I know he's I know he's trying.
- 30:57That's not a middle, but so I know he's trying to, you know,
- 31:00make some things work. And he did it again, I got to
- 31:03give him his props. Like he's seen what we couldn't
- 31:05move the ball and we were having some problems and he pulled some
- 31:08stuff out that, you know, progressed us down the field,
- 31:13which is what we needed to win. But at the same time, I still
- 31:16think, like Curtis said, when we started this, you get some of
- 31:20those hot rods, like on the 1st drive, not the first drive, but
- 31:23the second drive, you know, when we hit Benji, he's wide open.
- 31:28You know what I'm saying? It was nothing but a hot rod,
- 31:29you know, So you did some motion to kind of mess them up and send
- 31:33somebody out to the flats and they don't know who to cover.
- 31:35And they think, well, actually what they did was it was pretty,
- 31:37that was pretty genius play call.
- 31:39So they moved the tackle to the other side, you know, they moved
- 31:43the one tackle to the other side.
- 31:44So you got 2 tackles on one side.
- 31:46Yeah. So then you got Benji lined up
- 31:48on the on the line and it looks like he's a tackle, but he is a
- 31:52eligible receiver and he just hits hot right up the scene.
- 31:56So great play design, but you don't have to stop at one play.
- 32:00Like you can build off. You can build off that, off
- 32:05that, that set, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:07Just things like that. Let me let me put my thumb right
- 32:10on the problem and I'm going to I'm going to do it by asking a
- 32:12question when it comes to the passing game.
- 32:16What is the bread and butter of this offense?
- 32:21Racial. Tune.
- 32:23Now I'm saying from a passing standpoint.
- 32:26The pass it don't work unless you got him.
- 32:29Right now that that's, that's my point.
- 32:31There's not really, you don't have a bread and butter play in
- 32:33this playbook that says when we need yards, when we need a first
- 32:37down, when we need 7, when we need 8.
- 32:40We don't have a play that's like, all right, this is what
- 32:43this is where Kyron feels the most comfortable.
- 32:46I don't feel like we've seen it. I feel like there are.
- 32:49We scheme ourselves into these situations and scheme our way
- 32:53out of them sometime. But we don't have a Kelly, you
- 32:57were talking about identity. We don't really have an identity
- 33:00from a passing standpoint that says we do this really good
- 33:03really consistently. Let me ask you this, Brian and
- 33:06Curtis too, but Brian said she said that because this is
- 33:09something I talk about a lot of times, no disrespect to our wide
- 33:13receivers, but I'm watching certain plays and I'm watching,
- 33:17you know, kind of going back and watching tape and things like
- 33:20that. Do you think that is is because
- 33:22we don't separate enough on our wide receivers aren't separate
- 33:26enough because sometimes we have the opportunity to make plays,
- 33:31but maybe somebody in the open, maybe somebody didn't see it.
- 33:35What do y'all think is going on kind of with the receiver room?
- 33:39I don't, I think they do get separation.
- 33:41I don't think it's consistently. I don't think it's like it's
- 33:44not. It's to me.
- 33:46I would want it to be. Well, one person, one we won't
- 33:49be clear. One person gets separation all
- 33:52the time. But go ahead.
- 33:54I know who that is. I will let you mention in a
- 33:56little while here, that text I read while at the game was that
- 34:01play, but I think it's about it's not consistently, it's not
- 34:05consistently where, you know, you got somebody 75, somebody
- 34:0860. You know, you got Felton who's a
- 34:10big guy, He's physical where you almost want to say is you've got
- 34:14to trust his big body to go get the ball.
- 34:17You've got to trust they're going to win these battles.
- 34:19So it I don't think it's like to a point where it's like, Oh my
- 34:22God, they can never get separation.
- 34:24But it's not, I think it's to you what you said earlier, it's
- 34:28not at the comfort level it needs to be for Kyron to feel
- 34:31comfortable just letting the ball go.
- 34:34Like he knows he's going to get off that press or he's going to
- 34:38get the separation on that cut. And I will put it right there on
- 34:41them. Right.
- 34:43Yeah, I'm understanding that. Yeah, I'm, I, I think we got, we
- 34:48got some guys that they get separation.
- 34:50But I to to Curtis's point, I think the consistency is, is
- 34:53probably the bigger issue. And I think maybe when we think
- 34:57about separation and we think about how our offensive line is,
- 35:00I think we're not seeing separation maybe early in the
- 35:04snap as much as we want to see it.
- 35:06I think our guys get open, but sometimes I think they get open
- 35:11at a time where Kyron's already either made a decision to step
- 35:15up, climb the ladder. I think sometimes, sometimes if
- 35:19he sees the tight coverage before the break, he's not
- 35:23always anticipating the separation out of the break.
- 35:28And so he kind of makes that decision there.
- 35:30So there's, there's there's a lot of different factors.
- 35:32I think that's playing into that.
- 35:33Some of that's on Kyra and some of that's on, you know, the
- 35:36receiver route running. So I think there's, there's
- 35:38blame across the board here, you know, even going going to the
- 35:42play call in itself, I think there's there's a little blame
- 35:45to be passed around. But like I said, I think I'd
- 35:47like to see us figure out what we really do well in the passing
- 35:51game and maybe lean on that a little bit more, especially when
- 35:54we have games like Georgia Tech where we really couldn't find
- 35:58consistency in the run game because of the way they were
- 36:01playing in the. Box right?
- 36:03I'm I'm going to say this and it's and it's going back to
- 36:06simple, it's schematics tally like you mentioned a little
- 36:08while ago, move in the pocket, rolling Kyron out.
- 36:13That's a scheme thing because what that does y'all know both
- 36:17from playing the second that pocket is rolled like on a
- 36:20second and 8th you roll the pocket on it's a pass play.
- 36:24Wait a second though. If, if, if we F up and he gets a
- 36:27step, Kyron can get 10 yards. If if we really F up he can get
- 36:3035. Right.
- 36:32We're not putting them, we're not putting the defense to have
- 36:35to make a decision because what normally happens when the pocket
- 36:38rolls, safety or linebackers do something, they move out of the
- 36:41place. What usually happens there is a
- 36:43you're running somebody right into where the potentially that
- 36:46gap could be, right. Oh, I'm going to run a little
- 36:48crosser. Well, that safety just came up
- 36:50because he saw Kyron. Well, now Kyron's got an easy
- 36:52third down field. Oh, he didn't come up.
- 36:54Well, now it's going to be the linebacker trying to beat Kyron
- 36:57to the boundary and regardless, Karen's going to get the
- 37:01positive yards. The other thing that I we have
- 37:03not seen I feel like since the first month of the season where
- 37:07the orbit motions with Jane Logan go.
- 37:10Why aren't we orbit motioning guys in the backfield?
- 37:12Because y'all know that's a separation creator and that's
- 37:14moving guys. That's the safeties looking.
- 37:16Wait a second, where'd he just go?
- 37:18Well, he just came off the left side.
- 37:20Oh, I'm in cover too. I got to see where he is because
- 37:22if he comes back up the scene, he's probably coming into my
- 37:24zone. It's like we're not doing
- 37:26schematic things that could open guys up that could make getting
- 37:30separation easier. And to me that goes back to
- 37:34Tyler Bowen. Like, dude, these things are
- 37:37easy. And if they're not working, if
- 37:39they've got it figured out, then you put it back in the lunch,
- 37:41you put it back in the playbook and say I'm not going to do that
- 37:44today. But that's what irritates me
- 37:47because when I see a pocket roll for a semi mobile quarterback,
- 37:51oh, and they break 06 yards. Well, now it's third and two,
- 37:54that defense is all in a bond, right?
- 37:56What are they going to do? They're going to run facial,
- 37:58they're going to run Chiron. They're going to run some little
- 38:00pass. They're going to take a deep
- 38:01shot. You know, they're going they're
- 38:03going to run a little screen. Everything's open.
- 38:06And we're not doing that. We're effectively not putting
- 38:09ourselves in good situations like that and it's irritating.
- 38:15Yeah. I mean, I think when we look at
- 38:16the motion, I, I think that, you know, we've talked about it.
- 38:20Bowen has done a really good job with motion to scheme for
- 38:24certain plays. But I, I, I would like to see
- 38:26him being, being a little more consistent with how we use
- 38:31motion to isolate guys in, in favorable matchups to, to just,
- 38:38you know, to just move the sticks.
- 38:40I feel like we, we do a good job on those kind of those big
- 38:44plays, those, those, those plays where we're going to get chunk
- 38:47plays, but we don't use motion really well just to get a guy 5
- 38:52or 6 yards. And you could.
- 38:54And I and I think that's where, where, where there could be some
- 38:57improvement. That's it right there.
- 38:59That's it right there. It's the little small gains that
- 39:02instead of making it third and eight, it's third and two or
- 39:04third and three and then everything's open.
- 39:08And and you all both know it's like because we as fans just
- 39:12say, what are they going to do? And they just going to run a
- 39:14little zone read option. They just going to run off
- 39:16tackle inside zone, power run. Everything's open and the
- 39:20defense got to guess. And if defense screws up and
- 39:22guesses on our team and I know we're not always pumping them
- 39:27up, but if you screw up and mess around with our team and
- 39:30somebody gets it and there's nobody there, it's not a 10 yard
- 39:34gain, it's 30, it's 40 or it's a house call and then you sit over
- 39:38here right now we're down. All right, let me let me get off
- 39:40that because I can go on forever.
- 39:42This was bad. Now it seems better tally
- 39:46throughout the game, tech techs and X back on the sideline
- 39:49exert. Then I saw the Tooting play and
- 39:53it was just like oh God here we go again.
- 39:55But if y'all didn't get to hear it and prize presser, I know we
- 39:58were trying to listen to it while we were working.
- 40:01Both are probable. And did y'all see the J Lane
- 40:06interview? Yeah, yeah, I've seen the clip
- 40:09from it. Did you?
- 40:10See. Go ahead, Tally.
- 40:11And for those who haven't seen it, what J Lane said about Basil
- 40:14Thuden. He did pretty much said he was a
- 40:17drama queen whenever he gets hurt and that he will be fine.
- 40:21He'd be ready to go. So you know, it's just a team
- 40:24thing, man. They, you know, they talk to
- 40:26each other all the time, They seeing each other all the time.
- 40:28So you know, they won't they want their brother to be out
- 40:32there ready to play. But you know, there is something
- 40:34that you still got to worry about because if he if he is a
- 40:37little GIMP, you know what I'm saying, he's going to get nicked
- 40:41up in the game. You know, you got to find some
- 40:43ways to, you know, protect him and also, you know, when you
- 40:47have a ankle sprain or something like that, you know it it could
- 40:51cause you not to have the same burst that you have without
- 40:54having that ankle sprain. So something to keep an eye on.
- 40:58But even more than that, which is really important.
- 41:01You know, X has got nicked up a lot.
- 41:04You know, it's not just been one thing that you can pick or two
- 41:08things like, you know, shoulder knee, one game, ankle one game.
- 41:13So that's a big man, you know what I'm saying?
- 41:15Every time he goes down, you like, oh Lord, because it's a
- 41:19big, He's a big piece of the big piece of the puzzle that we need
- 41:22to move forward and be good. Yeah, and I mean, we talked
- 41:25about the, you know, the the PFF grades there and he didn't have
- 41:28good Pratt Pass programs in this in this particular matchup.
- 41:32And you know, some of that can be attributed to pretty much
- 41:34having a a bum shoulder for the majority of the snaps he saw in
- 41:38that game. But you know, to me, Pride
- 41:42coming out and saying two players are probable to play
- 41:45means they're playing because Pride is very, he's very
- 41:50forthcoming with a lot of things, but he is rarely
- 41:53forthcoming with the status of a player that is injured.
- 41:58So if he's being forthcoming with that, then they're playing.
- 42:01This is true. Very true.
- 42:04All right. Let's wrap this up real quick.
- 42:07Kind of put the last two questions back-to-back.
- 42:10Brian, anything that you weren't prepared for Saturday while
- 42:14looking at tape during the game? I know you were doing some
- 42:16things. I thought we would win more in
- 42:20the receiving game. I thought it was going to be a
- 42:23similar situation to like we saw against Stanford where you know
- 42:29they might load the box. They already have a pretty good
- 42:31rush defense, but we'll be able to take advantage of some of
- 42:34what they do in the secondary, and for a variety of reasons
- 42:39that just never came to fruition outside of a handful of plays.
- 42:43All right, tally anything you want purple because you watched
- 42:46it in live in color with your shirt off.
- 42:47Walk around the house. Yeah, I mean, pretty much what
- 42:49Brian said that when you talk about the passing game, but I'll
- 42:52go a little bit step farther. Like I wasn't prepared for us to
- 42:58not be productive in the passing game like I thought we would be
- 43:03and still win the game by two, two touchdowns.
- 43:07You know what I'm saying? Like that was pretty impressive.
- 43:10I guess you can play because I talked to Chris a lot, you know,
- 43:15shout out to Chris Lester, my guy.
- 43:16And we talked about like this was going to be the game where
- 43:20they were going to load the box, we were going to have to throw
- 43:23the ball and going to make Kyron beat us with his arm and we beat
- 43:26him about two touchdowns. Still wasn't as effective as I
- 43:30thought we would be or needed to be, but still 1:21 to 6:00 so I
- 43:35wouldn't prepare for that. Yeah, gritty, gritty win for a
- 43:39team that under pride hasn't had a ton of wins like that.
- 43:43Right? So still.
- 43:44Double digits, but it didn't feel double digits.
- 43:46No, it was, it was a, it was a very tightly contested game
- 43:50despite like I said, having the the arm's length lead for for
- 43:55the majority of that game. So yeah, I agree with you,
- 43:58Tally. All right, y'all heard mine a
- 44:00little earlier. It's just the defensive snap
- 44:02counts because a lot of young guys getting involved, the
- 44:06rotations getting heavier, Burgos playing a lot, Nelson
- 44:10playing a lot Ace and Steven getting 10 snaps APR, the
- 44:14defensive tackles keeping that rotation.
- 44:17That's what I love to see because as the season gets on,
- 44:20especially the defense, everybody gets nicked.
- 44:22And now it's that point where if you see Aeson Stevens in like he
- 44:27got 10 steps, but if you see him pop in, it's like it's all
- 44:30right. He he can get things done.
- 44:33He's been in there for 10 steps and you call his name at least
- 44:35two times in those ten snaps. I mean, he's making his presence
- 44:39felt within those 10 plays. Yep, all.
- 44:41Right. What can we do better moving
- 44:43forward? Jonathan Talley.
- 44:45Passing game we got to do, we got to make that passing game
- 44:48better, whether that's getting, you know, separation or that's,
- 44:53you know, hitting those crossing routes or if that's calling some
- 44:57like everything in the passing and we got to do it better.
- 45:00I mean, you got to have an identity, but you can't be A1
- 45:03dimensional team and and win these last four games.
- 45:06You know, we don't need all hands on deck.
- 45:09So we got to get that passing game moving, you know, in the
- 45:12right direction. Ron.
- 45:14We've got to start connecting on some of those deep one-on-one
- 45:19opportunities because you you can get yourself out of some
- 45:25stacked boxes if you start making defenses pay for that.
- 45:28And I think we did a better job of that last year than we've
- 45:31done at any point this year. I think scheme wise, we've hit
- 45:35some big plays this year. I don't think we went out there
- 45:38and won a ton of one-on-one matchups with the deep ball down
- 45:41the field. All right, there we go there and
- 45:44mine is just keep finishing, keep finishing, drive in the red
- 45:49zone, keep finishing like we did at the end, keep finishing teams
- 45:52off on 3rd and 4th down. Because if you keep doing that
- 45:57effectively, you break teams wills when you do that, when you
- 46:01keep scoring touchdowns or would they get inside the red zone?
- 46:04They can't score or they kick field goals.
- 46:07You, you, you just kind of see it on people's faces in their
- 46:09hearts. It's like, man, we just they're
- 46:11going to get in or we ain't getting in.
- 46:14And and that's one of those things it builds confidence when
- 46:18you see the D confidence that the other team has.
- 46:23All righty, as you all know, we are brought to you by the counts
- 46:26family pharmacy, your friendly neighborhood pharmacy, three O 1
- 46:29S Main St. in Blacksburg. Let's get over.
- 46:32Let's get to know the enemy and let's talk about the Syracuse
- 46:36Orange man current record of five and two.
- 46:40And we do want to start with their offensive side of the
- 46:43ball. And Brian, this offense is led
- 46:45by Jeff Nixon and Co OC Michael Johnson.
- 46:49Give us a little info on these two guys.
- 46:52Yeah, it's very much a, it's a spread offense.
- 46:55I mean you're getting A and it's a throw first offense.
- 46:57It's very it's kind of air raid esque, but they definitely throw
- 47:01the ball down feel a little bit more than you would be used to
- 47:03in an air raid concept there. They care a lot more about just
- 47:08getting those the ball in those playmakers hands and they do
- 47:10about any sort of offensive balance.
- 47:13I mean it it's basically a 6535 pass to to run there and at
- 47:19times it doesn't even feel like that.
- 47:22They are very much a a pass first offense and it starts and
- 47:26ends with Kyle McCord. All right, Callie, let's get
- 47:29some background on McCord because I think most people know
- 47:32him. Oh, Kyle McCord transferred in
- 47:35from Ohio State. He is a New Jersey kid, I
- 47:41believe, had some good offers coming out of high school.
- 47:46High 4 star, I think 92 was about where he was at.
- 47:50Came in highly, you know, in the transport portal, highly, highly
- 47:54ranked, came to Syracuse. And for the most part, you know,
- 48:00he's been effective this year. He's kind of been AI don't know
- 48:03a tale of two years, two halves for him.
- 48:06I heard early in the season how great he was.
- 48:10But then I also heard later in the season was, see, there he
- 48:12is. That's why you know, he had to
- 48:14leave Ohio State because he couldn't make stuff work with
- 48:17those wide receivers he had there.
- 48:19He never going to be able to make it work.
- 48:20So anyway, stat wise, we know he has 19 touchdowns and 11
- 48:25interceptions. How many came last Thursday?
- 48:29Say. 5506 was it 5 or 655 and 1:00?
- 48:33Three of them were picked. Six of the pick now I will say
- 48:36this and I'll let you know Brian, get into it a little bit.
- 48:43I've learned to try to, you know, go week by week with these
- 48:48talking about teams and looking at teams.
- 48:50And also I try to just wait till we're getting ready to play them
- 48:54because I heard that this team was Syracuse at the beginning of
- 48:58the season, same as Georgia Tech.
- 48:59All they're going to kill us all.
- 49:01They're just so talented. They this well, I'm looking at
- 49:04their record. I've never paid attention to it.
- 49:06Syracuse played Ohio beat them 38 to 22.
- 49:12Georgia Tech beat them 31 to 28. Stanford lost to them. 2624 Holy
- 49:19Cross, 42 to 14, UNLV, they won 44 to 41 in overtime.
- 49:29North Carolina State, they beat them 24 to 17.
- 49:33And then Pitt, they got Skull Drug 41 to 13, which so again,
- 49:40you kind of see, like, of course, every team's different,
- 49:43every week's different. But I think Pitt's defense was
- 49:46something more than Syracuse has seen this season.
- 49:52You know, even Georgia Tech being a solid team early in the
- 49:57season, their defense ain't on the level that pits is.
- 50:01I don't think they defense on the level ours is.
- 50:04So I'll go right there. Brian, what you think about Mr.
- 50:07McCord? Yeah.
- 50:09I mean, you kind of said it. And I mean, when we look at what
- 50:12he does, he's really a pocket oriented gunslinger.
- 50:17He's got some athletic ability, but he's not a guy that's going
- 50:21to take off and run consistently.
- 50:22That's not his bread and butter. He's the guy that's going to
- 50:26sling it from the the pocket there.
- 50:28And I emphasize gunslinger in the Brett Favre sense of the
- 50:31word, that it's either going to be something big or it's going
- 50:34to be an interception. Anything can happen.
- 50:38Literally he throws on the run pretty well, but again, still
- 50:42less of a threat to kind of take off in that aspect.
- 50:46And and from a arm talent standpoint, I mean, he can make
- 50:49all the throws, but he is risky with the football.
- 50:54You know, in the pit game, you look at that three of those
- 50:57interceptions, all three of the ones that were pick sixes were
- 51:00bad throws. Not not, not not throws that you
- 51:03should be making in those situations.
- 51:06You got, you got to be smarter with the football there.
- 51:10You know, he had a couple that were just, you know, tip balls
- 51:13probably probably shouldn't have taken the risk, but it, it was a
- 51:16calculated 1 and things just went the other way.
- 51:19But we're going to get some opportunities to, to have the
- 51:22ball go in our direction with, with Common Core throwing the
- 51:25ball. But he is going to make our guys
- 51:28cover, you know, 5 receivers 6570% of the time.
- 51:34So we're going to have to be ready.
- 51:36We're going to have to take tackles because they're going to
- 51:38want to get that ball in the open space.
- 51:40That last three games, do you know how many times he's threw
- 51:42the ball? How?
- 51:44Many. Against Pitt, he threw the ball
- 51:4864 times, Against North Carolina State he threw the ball 42 times
- 51:59and against UNLV they went into overtime, he threw the ball 63
- 52:04times. I can't believe his arm mate
- 52:06fell off. That ain't that's just the last
- 52:10three. I ain't even going into the
- 52:11other games. Lord have mercy.
- 52:14Lord have mercy. Well, hold on, let let me do
- 52:16something real quick here because I guess I'm up to look.
- 52:19So that's like 160 times. He threw it 42 when they lost to
- 52:23Stanford. Who was 42 and they lost to
- 52:25Stanford. And hold on, I got it up here.
- 52:30I'm going to talk about in a second couple of the guys Brian
- 52:34picked out to say we got to talk about these two guys who he
- 52:37throws to cause sort of the whole thing.
- 52:40He's went 364 in seven game, 346 in seven games.
- 52:44He's throwing the ball 50 * a game.
- 52:47Karen. Damn, T he going to throw it 50
- 52:49times? Yeah, that's if they win or they
- 52:51lose. So let's talk about a couple
- 52:54guys he's throwing to. I want to talk about Brian, the
- 52:57first one here because he's listed as a tight end, but you
- 53:00know, sometimes they lie because he was listed on 247 as a wide
- 53:03receiver. Ron Gadsden, the second out of
- 53:08American Heritage down to Fort Lauderdale, was a 84 when he
- 53:13came out. So a low three star, even though
- 53:16his dad was a NFL wide receiver on the Dolphins for five seasons
- 53:22back in the late 90s. Two thousands.
- 53:23So obviously he's got a bloodline there so far this
- 53:26season, 35 catches for 466 yards.
- 53:31His Big Bang game was against UNLV.
- 53:35He went 10 for 1:42 and a for 10 for 142.
- 53:41Big piece about him right now. He's got only three touchdowns
- 53:44this year in those seven games. So Brian, he's 65.
- 53:49He's about 2:15. Tell me what to do with him.
- 53:53Yeah, I mean, he's he's definitely the classic Joker
- 53:55tight end. Yeah, he's not going to, you
- 53:59know, be a guy that's, you know, running a quick hitch or or a
- 54:03huge red zone threat. But he is a guy that will run
- 54:06the seam in the wheel with regularity.
- 54:09He's a guy that they'll use on those quick hitters.
- 54:13So I don't know if we'll see, I don't know if we'll see that
- 54:19that damn RPO to the tight end like we've seen every other team
- 54:24run against us in the last month.
- 54:27But he has the capability of turning that into a, you know,
- 54:31pretty, pretty good play there. Yeah.
- 54:34So he's the guy that we're going to to to keep our eyes on.
- 54:37Like I said, I'm more worried about him up the sea and on
- 54:40those wheel routes than I am necessarily doing anything near
- 54:42the red zone. All right, got that noted.
- 54:45All right. Next guy I want to talk about is
- 54:47a guy by the name of Jackson Meeks.
- 54:51And Charlie, I'm on pivot to you in just a second before Brian
- 54:53jumps on him. Jackson Meeks, originally a
- 54:56recruit to Georgia back in the year 2021 Central High School,
- 55:04Phoenix City, Alabama, and so far this season, 43 catches, 512
- 55:12yards, 4 touchdowns. He's got the last five, excuse
- 55:17me, the last six games, well, we have been over 8 plus
- 55:21receptions, 2 / 10 of those, 2110 for 161 against Holy Cross.
- 55:28That makes sense that he absolutely torched NC State 11
- 55:32for 1/16 and a touchdown tally. Let's get a little bit of
- 55:35background on him. Phoenix City and Central, What
- 55:38type of program is that down there?
- 55:39A. Beast.
- 55:42Everybody who's good from Alabama comes from now.
- 55:46I'm pretty sure there are 7A schools, so biggest in the state
- 55:49of Alabama. They continue to pump out talent
- 55:54every year. I can't remember the name, but
- 55:58Auburn's freshman wide receiver that they got last year, he
- 56:04looks like Megatron. He came from Central Central.
- 56:06Phoenix City played basketball as well.
- 56:08I'll find his name here in a minute.
- 56:11But yeah, Phoenix City is always a great school, always very,
- 56:17very talented in every sport. But definitely they're bread and
- 56:21butter football like they that's, that's what they do
- 56:24that. So anybody coming from that
- 56:26program is usually pretty talented.
- 56:31All right, Brian, would you see on film?
- 56:35Yeah, I mean, he's there. Definitely their best all around
- 56:37wide receiver. He can do a little bit of
- 56:39everything. He can move the sticks.
- 56:41He can catch him down the field really good at at high point the
- 56:45ball and uses his size to kind of get that position on those
- 56:49deep balls down the field or in in those stick moving
- 56:52situations. So really got we got to kind of
- 56:54look at in all aspects of his game because he can definitely
- 56:57beat you a bunch of different ways.
- 57:00All righty tell who we were looking at next.
- 57:04We'll go to Lapointe Allen, the running back.
- 57:08He was a three star coming out of high school, New Jersey kid
- 57:15didn't have a ton of offers. You know it have UVA in there,
- 57:19Temple, Rutgers, Syracuse. So ended up going to Syracuse.
- 57:25He's a 2022 kid. He so he's a junior.
- 57:30He's got about 109 carries this year for 481, so 4 touchdowns.
- 57:39So that's what the stats that we have on him.
- 57:42Brian, what kind of film do you have on him?
- 57:44Yeah, I mean, you know, we'll make a note here.
- 57:46He's 3rd on the team in receptions right now.
- 57:50I'd say he's a threat as a runner and a receiver.
- 57:52I, I, I'd consider him just probably a little bit more of a
- 57:55receiving threat than than as a runner.
- 57:58You know, he's a, he's a, I'd say an average ACC running back,
- 58:03but he's a very good receiving threat, really good to the
- 58:07screen game and in space. And he catches just like a, a
- 58:10wide receiver. So he's got really good hands.
- 58:15All righty, Brian, one last piece to flip on.
- 58:18Let's talk about the offensive line.
- 58:22You know, what did you see on tape that any numbers
- 58:26specifically stand out to you? I mean, they they surrender a
- 58:29lot of sacks. Good.
- 58:32We can. We can sack this, we can sack
- 58:36this quarterback especially. They struggled a lot with elite
- 58:39edges one-on-one and they struggle a lot when you bring
- 58:43some pressure packages. So we should be able to get to
- 58:46the backfield. The questions going to be do we
- 58:48get home? Are they going to try to get rid
- 58:51of the ball quickly? Are they are we going to let
- 58:53them get open quickly in the snap?
- 58:55That's really going to be, you know, whether or not we struggle
- 58:59with this offense is whether or not we can get pressure on
- 59:02McCord with with regularity. And y'all wondering how bad they
- 59:06are? They are 97th in sacks allowed,
- 59:10about 2 1/2 per game. And obviously we played
- 59:15Stanford. We know Stanford's fast rush is
- 59:17not what it is. Pitt usually has 1.
- 59:21And I have to go look up at those numbers.
- 59:23But just kind of look here, Brian, you said the tackle
- 59:27struggle and it does show that they're two highest tackles City
- 59:31on Washington, Demetrius Witherspoon, they both get over
- 59:34500 snaps. You do the mathematics in seven
- 59:37games. That makes sense that they're
- 59:39pretty much the starters. Washington 62 graded in pass
- 59:44block in Witherspoon, you know, 67.
- 59:47So not that elite where you want to be.
- 59:51When you look at the competition they played, that's more of the
- 59:54issue there. It's who you played.
- 59:57Y'all should be easily in the 70s.
- 1:00:00You're in the 60s and you have not played an elite pass rusher
- 1:00:03and we. And as soon as they ramped it up
- 1:00:05last week, we saw what the fuck happened.
- 1:00:11You went on mute, Curtis. Can you hear me now on mute?
- 1:00:16Yes, Sir. Oh man, it didn't messed up
- 1:00:19Umamento. I'm back.
- 1:00:24He broke it. Maybe I'm not.
- 1:00:27Yeah, you're good, You're good. I don't know, it's, it's all
- 1:00:32jacked up with me. All right, So this thing just
- 1:00:36has a mind of its own. Let's go over to the defensive
- 1:00:39side of the ball led by Elijah Robinson and Robert Wright.
- 1:00:45I know I read earlier this week that Robinson is the play
- 1:00:48caller. Brian, what kind of scheme are
- 1:00:50they looking at here? Yes, it's a familiar one here,
- 1:00:53buddy. It's a 425 very pressure
- 1:00:55oriented scheme. They mix up their their their
- 1:00:59pressures a lot. They're they're very much not a
- 1:01:02predictable team. They're not just going to blitz
- 1:01:04on obvious downs. They're going to confuse you.
- 1:01:07They're going to bring bring pressure from different levels.
- 1:01:10They can bring pressure on different down and distances.
- 1:01:12So they're going to keep you on your toes a little bit with how
- 1:01:15they attack an offensive line. All right, Tally who you got up
- 1:01:22first because I, I, I know you, you're addressing what always
- 1:01:26worries you with teams. Mr. Fidel digs a big time
- 1:01:31recruit coming out of high school, you know, pretty much a
- 1:01:36five star, you know, 4 star high 4*5* player transferred in from
- 1:01:43Texas A&M to Syracuse this this year.
- 1:01:49Again, big time player had all the offers, all the SEC schools
- 1:01:55and he's he's, he's a solid player.
- 1:01:57Been, you know, going to be a nightmare for somebody coming
- 1:02:01off the edge, which Brian probably would be a nightmare
- 1:02:05for somebody coming off the edge.
- 1:02:06No disrespect to Brian, but I'm just saying we got to do some
- 1:02:11things that's going to neutralize him because he can
- 1:02:14cause some problems. Probably what you got on Mr.
- 1:02:16Deeds. Yeah, I mean his initial step,
- 1:02:19he's really good off the snap, probably not elite from a
- 1:02:24complete Rep standpoint, but really good get off really
- 1:02:30strong hands, can use those to kind of get get tackles off
- 1:02:34balance. Shed shed the blocker there, but
- 1:02:38when he gets home he's a pretty good tackler.
- 1:02:39He he he definitely has a a tendency when he gets there he's
- 1:02:43going to get you on the ground. So he's going to be a handful
- 1:02:47and and hopefully a certain somebody doesn't see a whole lot
- 1:02:51of him he's. Got 4 sacks as well. 8 1/2
- 1:02:56tackles for loss, too, and he's got like 30 tackles in general.
- 1:02:59So it shows a little bit of a motor from the end position.
- 1:03:02So he is definitely somebody we have to keep an eye on it.
- 1:03:07We've got to neutralize. You tell me he's got one sack or
- 1:03:11less. I will feel good about Saturday.
- 1:03:15Honestly, I'd feel great about Saturday.
- 1:03:17All right, I'm gonna go to the back end, Brian, because they've
- 1:03:20got a pretty damn good cornerback there by the name of
- 1:03:25Clarence Lewis. Clarence is from New Jersey.
- 1:03:28He went to Maitre-d' high school in Middletown.
- 1:03:30The class of 2020, initially went to Notre Dame.
- 1:03:33Now coming out not looked as a high star recruit, just an 87.
- 1:03:37So kind of in that middle range there.
- 1:03:40But you know, you take a look at what he's done so far in just a
- 1:03:44few seasons or in, excuse me, in this season at Syracuse, so far,
- 1:03:5116 tackles. He's already got a pick.
- 1:03:53He's got 5 past deflections in seven games.
- 1:03:56That tells me he's keeping an eye on things.
- 1:03:59He goes and gets it. His career at Notre Dame where
- 1:04:02effectively he played four full seasons.
- 1:04:05So this is his COVID season while he was there. 3 picks
- 1:04:11along with 18 past deflections in Four Seasons.
- 1:04:16Obviously he would have solved some of these Hokies way back.
- 1:04:19It would have been what, 2021 when he was a true sophomore
- 1:04:24there? If y'all can remember, we played
- 1:04:27them because he did play in all 13 games.
- 1:04:29Don't remind me of that game. I'm just saying he's seen some
- 1:04:35people on this team, not many of them, but some of them.
- 1:04:38But what? What's he got, Brian?
- 1:04:40Yeah, he's a very, very strong zone coverage cornerback.
- 1:04:45Really good at reading routes, anticipating throws.
- 1:04:49When it comes to man coverage, I'd, I'd give him an average
- 1:04:52grade. He's really good.
- 1:04:54Kind of early in the in the snap we look at things like double
- 1:04:59moves or tracking the ball deep down field.
- 1:05:02That's where he struggles at times.
- 1:05:04You know, you can get some penalties on him, you can get
- 1:05:06beat. He doesn't really do a good job
- 1:05:10of tracking the ball and going and get it in the air that way.
- 1:05:14But when it comes to breaking on a ball in those short to
- 1:05:16intermediate zones, that's where he's really strong all.
- 1:05:22Righty Valley, we got one more gentleman to look at who was our
- 1:05:27last contestant with Know the Enemy.
- 1:05:30Yeah. So Mr. Justin Baron, he's a
- 1:05:34senior. Many thought he was going to go
- 1:05:36in the draft last year, but he ended up coming back, I think
- 1:05:40for his fifth year to try to put on and do something special at
- 1:05:45Syracuse. He's a 64225 back there in
- 1:05:50defensive back this year. Looks like he is got about 25.
- 1:05:57I'm sorry, 42 tackles, 25 of them are solo tackles, one INT.
- 1:06:05He was about a three star player coming out of high school.
- 1:06:09Had a couple of offers from some ACC schools, Boston College
- 1:06:13being one of them. And of course, Syracuse is where
- 1:06:17he went. So yeah, it looks solid back
- 1:06:20there. Looks like a, you know, physical
- 1:06:22specimen. Brian, what you got on when you
- 1:06:24see tape? Yeah.
- 1:06:26And, and he's kind of been a guy that's moved in different spots
- 1:06:29on this defense as we've gotten into the season.
- 1:06:31He's kind of settled in an outside linebacker despite
- 1:06:35having that defensive back pedigree.
- 1:06:37So he's kind of that converted safety, played outside
- 1:06:40linebacker, Rover and free at various points in his career
- 1:06:43with Syracuse. Good tackler, you know, above
- 1:06:48average quickness, what you would expect from a safety, but
- 1:06:52you know, much like that he can get swallowed when he's inside
- 1:06:55of the box. They're a little undersized
- 1:06:58overall and doesn't have a ton of experience playing in the box
- 1:07:03between the tackles all. Righty, so there are three guys
- 1:07:08we are looking at this week. I'm going to throw another name
- 1:07:11to your cuz we're probably going to hear his name a lot Saturday
- 1:07:13just because of where he plays Mike linebacker Derek McDonald,
- 1:07:1748 total tackles Ty with bearing for the lead.
- 1:07:20He is in the middle of that defense.
- 1:07:22So if you hear that name a lot, don't be shocked.
- 1:07:26But y'all, let's let's go over we.
- 1:07:28We know what they do. We know they do have some
- 1:07:31weapons. We do see some things we do and
- 1:07:34don't like, but let's talk about what our keys to this victory
- 1:07:38are. Tally and we'll let you get up
- 1:07:41to the plate 1st and Smash 1 here.
- 1:07:44Yeah, so let me see, Keys to Victory for me is going to be
- 1:07:50secondary. You got to earn your reputation.
- 1:07:53You know, we got a all ACC all American cornerback back there
- 1:08:00and Dorian Strong. Well, guess what buddy?
- 1:08:03You going to get your opportunity to wear that satchel
- 1:08:07with some pride this week because they're probably going
- 1:08:10to drop back and throw the ball 50 times.
- 1:08:13I think defensive lines don't try to get to the quarterback.
- 1:08:16He's going to get the opportunity to pick something
- 1:08:20off. You know, we got to know what we
- 1:08:22doing. Hey, let's take one to the
- 1:08:23house, man. Let's say we want to be DBU.
- 1:08:26Let's just be DBU. So that's what I'm saying.
- 1:08:30Secondary, you don't have to earn your stripes this week.
- 1:08:34All righty, Brian, what about you?
- 1:08:38No slow starts on offense. Get Kyron comfortable early.
- 1:08:42Establish the line of scrimmage with the run game.
- 1:08:45Get out there, score a touchdown, get some points on
- 1:08:47the board. Put the pressure on that
- 1:08:50Syracuse offense to have to keep pace with us from an offensive
- 1:08:55standpoint. All right, we will have Sheldon
- 1:08:59here this week. Shelton actually went on the
- 1:09:01inactive list very early today. 1 going to be able to make it.
- 1:09:05Shelton, we miss you as always this week and I know you hate
- 1:09:09this stat, but I think it's when we've got to live by.
- 1:09:12The mantra is it's going to be money downs on both sides of the
- 1:09:15football. So at converting third downs,
- 1:09:20Syracuse is 6 in the country. They convert almost half of
- 1:09:23their third downs. 3rd down defense.
- 1:09:27They ain't too shabby as well. They are the 12th ranked third
- 1:09:31down defense in the country with teams converting less than 30%
- 1:09:36on them. So there's two ways about this
- 1:09:40right? Offense, Don't ever get to 3rd
- 1:09:43down. Get it on 1st and 2nd.
- 1:09:45Don't ever get to 3rd down. Don't let us strength defense
- 1:09:50upfront. APR Peebles, all y'all go eat,
- 1:09:56make the third downs damn near impossible for them to get to.
- 1:09:59And when it's third and 10 and 3rd and 11 attacks attack finish
- 1:10:06at the quarterback. But that is 2 of their
- 1:10:08strengths. So going to wrap that up.
- 1:10:11That's our three keys to victory.
- 1:10:14And Brian, how do you see this one playing out and what's your
- 1:10:19prediction for the game? Yeah, I I think the Hokies stand
- 1:10:23this one. I think it may end up being a
- 1:10:25little bit more of a grind than we want it to be, but I think we
- 1:10:29get the job done. At the end of the day, give me
- 1:10:312721 Hokies. All righty, I'm going to go next
- 1:10:36because Tally, you're officially, you're officially in
- 1:10:39the clean up position for the rest of the year rest.
- 1:10:44Of the year. I'm also going to go Hokies on
- 1:10:47this one, especially once the news with Chaplain and Tooting
- 1:10:51came out that they're likely going to play, probably going to
- 1:10:53be playing through some pain. We are Four Point Rd. favorites.
- 1:10:58That was the last time I checked.
- 1:10:59I don't know if that's went up or down.
- 1:11:00I was a little bit starting. At 3 1/2 bumped up to four.
- 1:11:03I don't. I don't think it's changed
- 1:11:04since. I don't think it's changed since
- 1:11:06then, but I'm going to go 2823 and I think it's going to be the
- 1:11:13Syracuse is going to have their own undoing.
- 1:11:14They're going to be at like the 15.
- 1:11:16It's going to be like 4th and five would like 8 minutes to go
- 1:11:19and they go kick a field goal and then we're going to bleed
- 1:11:23out the clock. We're going to bleed out the
- 1:11:25clock. They will get the ball back with
- 1:11:27about 9 seconds left and Dorian Strongs on get a pick to seal
- 1:11:31the game. If all that happened.
- 1:11:35Curtis Curtis got a script. Yeah, I'm going to say if all
- 1:11:37that happened, shit, we're going to let Curtis go pick some
- 1:11:39numbers. If all that happens, yeah,
- 1:11:42we'll, we'll be, we'll be going, we'll be going to the grocery
- 1:11:45store and buying a lottery ticket Saturday night.
- 1:11:47Yeah, exactly. Well, hey, I got to stay true,
- 1:11:50man. Bulletin board material.
- 1:11:54I'm going with QS, man. I'm going with QS.
- 1:11:57I'm going to say QS 3521. You know, I haven't seen us
- 1:12:03really win a close game yet. A lot of people think it's going
- 1:12:06to be close. And again, two of our losses
- 1:12:10have been on the road. So they've been proving me wrong
- 1:12:14the last three games. I mean they proved me wrong.
- 1:12:18I want them to continue proving me wrong.
- 1:12:21Plaster me up on the in the in the locker room and them ugly
- 1:12:24ass lockers y'all got and say we going to prove this guy wrong
- 1:12:30again. Oh nevermind, we going to their
- 1:12:32house so they lock us. Might not be ugly, but our lock
- 1:12:35us is ugly. Oh, that place.
- 1:12:36Is have have you seen the Dome? You know them lock they you got
- 1:12:40to climb stairs to get them some bitches that.
- 1:12:43Place, by the way, not a way. And so we hadn't beat Georgia
- 1:12:48Tech at home in 12 years. How long has it been since we
- 1:12:53won in the Dome? It's been too long, but we
- 1:12:56hadn't played a ton of them. I played a ton of them, but do
- 1:13:00you do you know? Probably 20.
- 1:13:05Go ahead. I was gonna say 24 years. 24
- 1:13:10years. I was going to take last week's
- 1:13:1112, multiply it by 224 years. NB 7 was the quarterback.
- 1:13:17Yeah, yeah, it was 2000. I was in high school.
- 1:13:23He was in high school. He was in high school.
- 1:13:27That's how damn long it's been. It's time.
- 1:13:30Curtis is just That's another way for Curtis to call us old.
- 1:13:34The. Whole thing about our podcast is
- 1:13:38we don't desire being old. We don't go out there trying
- 1:13:42that young. I think I was in middle school.
- 1:13:44Were you? In middle school in 2000.
- 1:13:47Yeah, well, because the football season would have been.
- 1:13:50Yeah, never mind, it'd be 20. I was in high school because I
- 1:13:53graduated in O4. I was thinking it would have
- 1:13:56been 99 and then, but now it's the 2000 season.
- 1:13:58The 2000 season so there you got pressure in high school I'm not
- 1:14:01seeing you in high school all right let's move on as always,
- 1:14:05we have fun Brian, you didn't send me the update, man.
- 1:14:08You didn't send me the update. Send me the update.
- 1:14:10Hang on, hang on. I don't even.
- 1:14:13I think I had a decent week. I think I did all.
- 1:14:16Right, it's coming your way all. Right, I'm looking forward now.
- 1:14:19We are trying to get Shelton's prediction as well.
- 1:14:22Y'all Shelton again started his new job last week.
- 1:14:25He's trying to find an apartment.
- 1:14:26He's commuting back and forth. He's doing all sorts of stuff.
- 1:14:29But there is the big screeners. Let's get that tabulation up
- 1:14:33there, Brian, pop it up. Week 10 big screeners last week,
- 1:14:39believe it or not, Brian, Talley, Miranda, Jason all went
- 1:14:44500 along with Shelton. Everybody went three and three
- 1:14:48except me four and two back in the winning category.
- 1:14:52I am above 500. I'm joining Brian there.
- 1:14:55Curtis is the band. Curtis is the band.
- 1:14:58I hate the band. I just, I just hit it right last
- 1:15:02week. Yeah, you got those feelings.
- 1:15:05You just you go out, you bet them you feel good about it and.
- 1:15:07Curtis. Curtis is either, I mean looking
- 1:15:09at it, Curtis is either hitting three or more right or like 1.
- 1:15:14Like, or if you ride with me, be willing to burn because if it
- 1:15:19starts bad, you're usually going to be up in flames before we
- 1:15:23figure out anything. All right, But we got big
- 1:15:26screeners. Before we go to big screen,
- 1:15:28before we go to big screeners, Yeah, Just want to ask.
- 1:15:32Yeah, besides our game, because we got our game over with early.
- 1:15:36I was so happy. Like, I'm OK, I'm OK with the
- 1:15:39because here's 11:00, watch our game, we win, I'm having a great
- 1:15:43day. What other games did y'all
- 1:15:45watch? Because I'm going to tell you, I
- 1:15:47watched the Vanderbilt, Texas game and I knew it was going to
- 1:15:53be a close game and Vandy almost had a chance to pull that game
- 1:15:57off. They did let me think.
- 1:16:00I watched the fourth quarter of that game.
- 1:16:03I watched the early quarters of the Alabama game blow out.
- 1:16:08I was all over the place. I was watching mostly highlights
- 1:16:12other than our game because I was on the road for most of that
- 1:16:16and I I didn't get back till like almost 1030.
- 1:16:21I left at the start of the fourth quarter for our game.
- 1:16:24So that's why Tally was clutch coming through because ESPN had
- 1:16:29fucked up the game cast. So you couldn't follow, you
- 1:16:32couldn't follow the game on the on the app.
- 1:16:36I didn't have good enough service to to stream it on my
- 1:16:39phone, so Tally came through in the clutch and was giving me the
- 1:16:42giving us the play by play in real time in the group chat so.
- 1:16:45Hey, the man, Hey the man. We do it together.
- 1:16:48All right, so there's three. I watched Tally and then at
- 1:16:50night I watched some of the Miami, FL State game, the LSU,
- 1:16:54Texas A&M game, and then I closed it out watching SMU, Duke
- 1:17:00and I, I ain't never seen anything like y'all.
- 1:17:04You watching that game? Duke didn't want to win they.
- 1:17:07Didn't. They did not want to win the.
- 1:17:09Field goal and you. I think SMU turned it over six
- 1:17:12times. Six freaking times.
- 1:17:16Every time they got the ball, they turned it over and Duke
- 1:17:19just couldn't win it. I feel like we about to talk
- 1:17:22about that a little bit here. Yeah.
- 1:17:24Oh yeah, we got to talk about that.
- 1:17:26We got to talk about that because the first game up.
- 1:17:31Oh, by the way, there's another one.
- 1:17:33Hold on, Did y'all watch the game last Wednesday night?
- 1:17:37Tell me y'all watch the end of it.
- 1:17:39Who wasn't Allstate Liberty? No, I didn't watch it.
- 1:17:43I heard about. It Kennesaw State is an FCS
- 1:17:46transitioning program to FBS. They had not beaten an FBS team
- 1:17:51ever. Ever.
- 1:17:54And they beat Liberty's ass. It was such a glorious thing.
- 1:17:57Yeah, I think I threw the tweet out there.
- 1:17:59I was like, Liberty fans talked all that shit to lose the
- 1:18:02Kennesaw State on a Wednesday night.
- 1:18:04An O and 16. No one's 16 all right, but let's
- 1:18:09get to them big screeners, Brian, right out the gate, huge
- 1:18:12ACC matchup. Huge matchup for the Hokies if
- 1:18:18they are to make it to Charlotte.
- 1:18:19Pitt and SMU, both undefeated and ACC play.
- 1:18:24SMU effectively avoided that bullet Saturday night because
- 1:18:28you couldn't find a guy to kick a 22 yard field goal for the win
- 1:18:31and and then they didn't trust him enough in overtime.
- 1:18:34They had to go for two. And some of you laying 7 1/2.
- 1:18:39Brian, why'd you pick it and who you got?
- 1:18:43Yeah, I picked it because this fucking matters from a Virginia
- 1:18:47Tech standpoint. If we want to see Charlotte
- 1:18:50looking long term big picture here, you know, we need to at
- 1:18:55this point probably win the every remaining game on our
- 1:18:57schedule if we want to want to go and and and play where we
- 1:19:00want to play. Mainly because if you look at
- 1:19:04the remaining schedule for SMU, they've got pit and then they
- 1:19:08got some mostly light work the rest of the way.
- 1:19:12SMU schedule as far as a first first time P4 ACC team is as
- 1:19:21cake as they could have lined it up.
- 1:19:26Just looking at that big picture, pit really going to be
- 1:19:29really the the biggest test they're going to have in the
- 1:19:31entire slate of the ACCI know it's at SMU but them getting 7
- 1:19:381/2 is fucking wild to me. So because honestly, SMU's wins
- 1:19:45haven't been that impressive. So give me pit and I'm I'm
- 1:19:51picking pit here. So y'all mark this on your
- 1:19:53calendars. This is a red letter day that
- 1:19:57Brian Siegler has chosen Pitt in any context because I will
- 1:20:03usually avoid that team like the play. 100%, but you had it in
- 1:20:07this one because of the enormity of the match up.
- 1:20:10Yeah, this this is where the first of the dominoes have to
- 1:20:13fall for the Hokies to make it in the Hokies or themselves.
- 1:20:17Obviously we got to win Saturday afternoon at Syracuse, but we
- 1:20:21take care of that. We need because by the way, this
- 1:20:25is who Pitt has left BC, not even at BC.
- 1:20:29So they ain't got to travel a long ways.
- 1:20:31They get to stay at home. They don't have to play up in
- 1:20:32the cold. They go to UVA and then they got
- 1:20:38Cal at home. You talk about SMU.
- 1:20:41Yeah, SMU. That's their last three
- 1:20:42opponents. Oh, I thought you said Pitt.
- 1:20:44So that that's why I. Was no, no, no.
- 1:20:46So I was saying this is their hardest one.
- 1:20:50The the thing I will say if you take a look, best defense SMU
- 1:20:54seen all year is BYU. They held him to 15 points.
- 1:20:59Give me Pitt, give me the 7 1/2. Pitt wins a game outright.
- 1:21:07Sheldon is riding with you and me here, Curtis Tell.
- 1:21:12Tally what you. Got I'm riding, I'm riding with
- 1:21:14Pitt too. Our dudes are going if you give
- 1:21:17him, you give him the ball 6 times, he going to do something
- 1:21:21with it. I don't like it, but if you turn
- 1:21:24that ball over six times, he probably not losing.
- 1:21:27Go ask Syracuse. Hey, true, true.
- 1:21:32Miranda is riding with SMU here, and the man himself is riding
- 1:21:37with us and Pitt. Gentlemen, 5:00 to 1:00. 5 to
- 1:21:40one. Yep.
- 1:21:42All righty Curtis, where are we heading?
- 1:21:44We are heading to Death Valley, South Carolina, Louisville
- 1:21:49versus Clemson, Clemson laying 10 1/2 points here and I chose
- 1:21:55this one obviously because I know we've got to see.
- 1:22:00We've been probably all watching Clemson a little bit as they've
- 1:22:03been getting closer and closer to the game.
- 1:22:06This is one week before. So obviously got to going to
- 1:22:09keep an eye out or we'll be keeping an eye on this game.
- 1:22:13Louisville can score and we've seen that numerous times.
- 1:22:18Louisville don't play much defense and I think when they go
- 1:22:21down there, they're going to get locked down defensively.
- 1:22:24I think Clemson is going to be tuning up to get ready to come
- 1:22:28to Lane Stadium. I think Clemson wins this one
- 1:22:31big. They easily cover the 10 1/2.
- 1:22:34I think this is a blowout by 20 plus.
- 1:22:37I'm not seeing a blowout here, but I am seeing a solid Clemson
- 1:22:41V14 to 17 points, so I'm riding with you and the Tigers.
- 1:22:49Sheldon's riding with us too. Tally you on board.
- 1:22:52Oh yeah, I got to go Clemson. You know, Clemson's had a pretty
- 1:22:56easy schedule, man, besides Georgia.
- 1:22:58I mean, they, they've been pretty caked.
- 1:22:59So they do got to pay Pitt later on.
- 1:23:05They play us and they do play Pitt.
- 1:23:07But other than that, man, they've kind of we'll when I say
- 1:23:11us, we'll see what us do. But.
- 1:23:13They. Had it pretty.
- 1:23:14They've had it pretty cake. So we'll see how Clemson handles
- 1:23:18Louisville. Regardless of how our game
- 1:23:22shakes out, you know they'll we should still be top five, top
- 1:23:28six team in the conference. So we'll still be in the top
- 1:23:31heavy end of the of the conference.
- 1:23:33But hopefully we go ahead and take care of business this week
- 1:23:36and we can actually have some to to talk about next week with
- 1:23:40that Clemson game. 100% Miranda and Jason.
- 1:23:46Everybody's riding Clemson Queensland baby.
- 1:23:49And if y'all did not know the clean suite losing streak
- 1:23:53snapped last week, it snapped last week on the Vandy game.
- 1:23:57Yep, everybody pick Vandy. Vandy snapped our streak.
- 1:24:01Mandy Damner won that thing out, right?
- 1:24:03So that was crazy. All righty.
- 1:24:05Next we have Shelton's pick. North Carolina, Florida State.
- 1:24:10And as Shelton sent us the text message of this game, this is
- 1:24:13effectively the toilet bowl of the ACC.
- 1:24:16This year, we've got FSU getting points at home getting 2 1/2
- 1:24:22versus UNCUNC, whose defense has been trash, Absolutely shut UVA
- 1:24:29down last week, which just makes you shake your head.
- 1:24:32So Brian Sigler, where are you going with this one?
- 1:24:38I think we're going to get another Jeff Collins special.
- 1:24:42Give me UNCI don't like anything that Florida State's doing.
- 1:24:45I don't know they they broke, man.
- 1:24:47I don't know what the fuck happened but they are broke.
- 1:24:51But you know what you just need though?
- 1:24:54Every time something broke, they just need somebody who has
- 1:24:58something more broken. And I know they held UVA to 14,
- 1:25:02but that UNC defense has been just like a paper bag, a wet
- 1:25:06paper bag. Usually everybody's breaking
- 1:25:08through it. I think this is FSU's biggest
- 1:25:12win of the year. They win, they get the points,
- 1:25:16FSU high scoring. Be willing to maybe take the
- 1:25:20over on this one. I don't know what it is I'll
- 1:25:22find. Florida Stakes is going to is
- 1:25:24going to score points. Florida State score.
- 1:25:26So OK, hold on, wait a second. I'm I'm just do something real
- 1:25:30real quick here bro. Over Under 28 points for Florida
- 1:25:34State's offense Over Under. 28 points over OK over over.
- 1:25:40UNC has given up ready 70344141 at some of their giving UPS.
- 1:25:53It don't matter Florida State anything to score that all
- 1:25:56right, They can't catch. They can't catch.
- 1:26:00They don't have a quarterback out of three of them to rub
- 1:26:03together to make one. Yeah, All right.
- 1:26:07Sheldon is riding with me. Tally, we know who you riding
- 1:26:11with. You just gave them away and that
- 1:26:16last two wonderful contributors, North Carolina and Jason, we got
- 1:26:21a split family. That that was I was most.
- 1:26:24This is the most unexpected outcome.
- 1:26:26I was not expecting a a split on this one.
- 1:26:29Me neither. I thought, I thought this would
- 1:26:31lean UNC's way at least 4-2. But you know what?
- 1:26:36We move. All right, Sally, where we
- 1:26:39going, man? So next we're going to like,
- 1:26:43Curtis said, The big one, Ohio State and Penn State.
- 1:26:48I hate Penn State, man. I hate Ohio State, but I hate
- 1:26:50Penn State. So there's.
- 1:26:53No rhyme of reason. Yeah, there's no rhyme of
- 1:26:55reason. I'm just going to say Ohio
- 1:27:00State's going to win all. Right, You know what, Penn State
- 1:27:07getting 3 1/2 at home just don't quite sit sit well with me, I
- 1:27:12think. Ohio.
- 1:27:13State do it Brian, don't do it I.
- 1:27:14Think Ohio State pulls out the West, but I'm going to Penn
- 1:27:19State here in that 3 1/2. So welcome to Jonathan Talley's
- 1:27:26Player Hater Ball football game of the week.
- 1:27:30Hate your whole family. He hates everything about the
- 1:27:32school. And listen, I, I think most of
- 1:27:35us that are hokey fans, we ain't too big a fans at either of
- 1:27:38these schools either way. But with that info that broke,
- 1:27:42and I don't know if this changed your mind.
- 1:27:44Brian Drew a law is likely to be a game time decision for Penn
- 1:27:47State. He's playing, which means, well,
- 1:27:50he's going to play. But when a guy has a game time
- 1:27:52decision, like not even like he's going to practice and
- 1:27:55progress through it. Like we going to figure out it
- 1:27:57and it's a 12:00 game, which by the way, I'm going to say
- 1:28:00something. As much as I hate them, I like
- 1:28:03seeing a night game at Penn State.
- 1:28:05The white out. It's cool.
- 1:28:06What is this game at 12:00? Could y'all explain that to me?
- 1:28:10It's such stupid. It's just stupidity.
- 1:28:13We got to stop. You can't put the game of the
- 1:28:16week at 12. No.
- 1:28:18Not there's only a couple that can happen with.
- 1:28:22I am always fine with the Red River Shootout being at 12:00.
- 1:28:26That's fine. I'm fine with some rivalry games
- 1:28:28being at 12:00. This game should be a night
- 1:28:31game. Fox, shame on you.
- 1:28:34Ohio State by. 10 all right. And I'm playing the points,
- 1:28:42Shelton. Sheldon's riding with you.
- 1:28:44We already know what Tally's doing.
- 1:28:47Miranda is riding and I am so low.
- 1:28:51Brian Siegler versus the world, hey.
- 1:28:55Bring it on, bitches. Let's go.
- 1:28:56All right. All righty, all righty.
- 1:28:58So our wonderful contributing writer Miranda this week is
- 1:29:02going down to Fayetteville, AR where the Ole Miss Rebels are
- 1:29:08playing the Arkansas Razorbacks. Arkansas is a 7 point home
- 1:29:14favorite. Brian, what you got?
- 1:29:17I think this is going to be about a 22 touchdown victory for
- 1:29:20Ole Miss. I think they're just going to be
- 1:29:22too much to handle down there in Fayetteville.
- 1:29:25I don't think the the Razorbacks are going to quite have enough
- 1:29:29to keep pace with that offense. So I'm going to take Ole Miss
- 1:29:32here. All righty, I'm exact opposite
- 1:29:35of you. I think Arkansas does have
- 1:29:38enough in the tank probably to keep up offensively. 7:00 is way
- 1:29:42too much to lay. And the whole thing is it's
- 1:29:49almost just has not been right in my opinion since the Kentucky
- 1:29:53game. They have not been right.
- 1:29:56I mean, if you take a look at them since Kentucky game a few
- 1:30:00weeks ago, like they played South Carolina, they only scored
- 1:30:0527. They lost LSU, they scored 26,
- 1:30:09they beat Oklahoma, they only scored 26.
- 1:30:13And then I look at what Arkansas has done the last few weeks,
- 1:30:155:00 and 3:00. Arkansas has been laying some
- 1:30:18points, like Arkansas has been putting points on the board
- 1:30:21against less than average defenses, 58 last week.
- 1:30:24It's Mississippi State. I think this is going to be
- 1:30:27entertaining personally, but give me the Razorbacks and seven
- 1:30:32Shelton is with. Ride with Ole Miss baby.
- 1:30:37Who you riding with, Tally? Give me Arkansas.
- 1:30:42Any rhyme or reason or just screwed lane given?
- 1:30:44Vibes. No it's just vibes man.
- 1:30:47I mean Arkansas got a got a ugly pig as they mascot so they
- 1:30:52should be winning this game right?
- 1:30:55You think so? Hey, Miranda's riding with with
- 1:30:59Sheldon and I, and so is Jason. All righty, we got one MO here
- 1:31:07and obviously that is our Music Man picking the Florida Georgia
- 1:31:11game. Well, I won't back down.
- 1:31:26No, I won't back down. You can swing me up and get me
- 1:31:34to feel, but I won't back down. Welcome back to another week of
- 1:31:42guitar licks and gambling picks. I'm Jason Long, I took a big
- 1:31:46loss last week, but as the song says, I'm not going to back
- 1:31:48down. In fact, this week I'm coming
- 1:31:50back stronger than ever. I did some research, I took
- 1:31:52notes, I did math and wrote down stats and stuff.
- 1:31:56So I am ready folks. I'm looking at the Florida
- 1:31:58Georgia Game, the World's Largest outdoor cocktail party,
- 1:32:02going on in Jacksonville Saturday afternoon, and Florida
- 1:32:05started out a little rough, but they've won three of their last
- 1:32:07four games. Georgia's looked.
- 1:32:09Pretty good all season, including two weeks ago when
- 1:32:11they beat Texas and I lost money.
- 1:32:13However, they're only two and five against the spread.
- 1:32:17Florida's getting 16 1/2 points in this game.
- 1:32:20I think they'll at least keep it around 10.
- 1:32:23So I'm going to go and stick my neck out there and bet on
- 1:32:26Florida plus 16 1/2 against Georgia.
- 1:32:30One other little side note, I noticed the over under was 52
- 1:32:341/2 points for this game. I looked it up and that is hit
- 1:32:38for the last 6 times these teams have met and it's hit the last
- 1:32:42two times they've played each other.
- 1:32:44So I might sprinkle a little something only over.
- 1:32:47And as far as the song goes, obviously, Gainesville native
- 1:32:51Tom Petty. The rain, the rain, the rain,
- 1:33:07The rain, The rain, The rain, the rain, the rain.
- 1:33:33Hey on a serious note I want to take a moment to say fare thee
- 1:33:36well to my guy Phil Lesh. Thank you for the music.
- 1:33:39We'll see you on the other side for the rest of y'all.
- 1:33:41I'll hopefully see you next week for another week.
- 1:33:43Guitar licks and gambling picks have a great week.
- 1:33:49All righty, so there is the Florida Georgia game, the
- 1:33:52world's largest outdoor cocktail party.
- 1:33:55We lost Tally, so I'm going to do a little bit more talking
- 1:33:59always for some reason this has been even though I have like no
- 1:34:04rooting interest. This is always one of those
- 1:34:06games that has captivated me since I was a kid like always.
- 1:34:11So for Jason, he'll probably be pairing himself a nice raw old
- 1:34:14fashioned enjoying this one because he sent us the bed and
- 1:34:17slip y'all, he did sprinkle the money on the over under.
- 1:34:21So you know that's there. And now we got to make our
- 1:34:27picks. So we're going to get tally back
- 1:34:30up and running. Brian, who do you got?
- 1:34:36I'm going with Georgia here. I haven't seen anything from
- 1:34:38Florida at this point to inspire a lot of conference confidence.
- 1:34:42I think Georgia is kind of settling back in after a little
- 1:34:46bit of a tough patch there. So I'll take Georgia.
- 1:34:49I'll lay the the 16 1/2. Yeah the 16 1/2 is such a big
- 1:34:54number and but is it big enough in regardless what this screen
- 1:35:03says to me it is too much. I do think Georgia wins but I
- 1:35:07think the game is a lot closer than you need to.
- 1:35:13Then they can be left. I am taking Florida, not Georgia
- 1:35:17fries. Edit details completely screwed
- 1:35:19that up. I'll take the L on that one.
- 1:35:23Too well, I'm looking. Much like Florida will take on
- 1:35:26Saturday. No, I'm just.
- 1:35:28Kidding. See how it's going to make the
- 1:35:29L? It just ain't going to be about
- 1:35:3016 1/2. It's going to be about less than
- 1:35:3216 1/2 points, but yeah, give give me Florida on this one.
- 1:35:39Sheldon Brown with me, Curtis. Not us.
- 1:35:41Me. Yeah, I'm a ride with you too,
- 1:35:44Brian, because Georgia's coming off of a bye week and I think
- 1:35:48that they're going to come back ready to give that final push to
- 1:35:53try to get to the SEC Championship.
- 1:35:56Hey. No, they ain't.
- 1:35:59Oh yeah, they are. Yeah, two weeks ago.
- 1:36:02Yeah. Miranda's riding with us there
- 1:36:06and obviously we know Jason is not riding solo as expected, but
- 1:36:11riding with Curtis. And we're also coming off a by
- 1:36:17week as well, so should be interesting. 1 and Tally, I was
- 1:36:21just telling Brian while you were getting back on for some
- 1:36:24reason, I have really no root and interest in this game, but
- 1:36:28that game is always captivated me for years.
- 1:36:31I don't know why, but it's just always captivated me for years
- 1:36:38so but there it is there's our big screeners enjoy the games
- 1:36:43that responsibly and if you ride with one of us all the way down,
- 1:36:49well y'all, y'all know you're making a mistake by doing that.
- 1:36:52So don't. Anything coming out in the last
- 1:36:56hour and 37 minutes, boys? I wouldn't say anything's coming
- 1:37:01out, but I will throw some numbers at you right quick. 1919
- 1:37:09is the number that Pride needs to get to.
- 1:37:13That means he wins four games, four more games.
- 1:37:17He will be 19 and 17 in his coaching career at Virginia
- 1:37:21Tech. Right now he is 15 to 17.
- 1:37:25Worst case scenario, he needs to be at 518 and 18.
- 1:37:32That means he goes three and one in the last four games.
- 1:37:38But you know what, Charlie, let's go.
- 1:37:40And, and I'm glad you said that because that was from three and
- 1:37:45eight. That was from 3:00 and 8:00.
- 1:37:49Yeah, first season 3 and eight. Second season 7 and six.
- 1:37:54The season where you go, yeah, 5 right now.
- 1:37:58Yeah, 5 right now, yeah. 5 right now and we didn't.
- 1:38:02See five last year. You know we saw five last year.
- 1:38:05Brian, me and you were travelling to Randolph Macon.
- 1:38:09November 11th is when we got to five last year y'all?
- 1:38:15What are you saying Brian? Sorry, I was.
- 1:38:17Just going to say, I mean that I think, I think getting to 8 this
- 1:38:20year is important. Yeah.
- 1:38:22I think that's, I think that's really important from a path
- 1:38:27forward standpoint. We're talking about the the
- 1:38:29youth that's coming in. I feel like prize has done a
- 1:38:31good job of bringing in the the right type of players for what
- 1:38:34we're trying to do both offensively and defensively.
- 1:38:36I think we're starting to see some of that pay off in terms of
- 1:38:39the talent, the the the youth talent, the guys that are, you
- 1:38:44know, true freshman, true sophomore, they're going out
- 1:38:47there and they're starting to make names for themselves on
- 1:38:51this team that is, you know, fairly veteran laden.
- 1:38:58You know, they're starting to make their presence felt.
- 1:39:00But if you want to keep that train moving, you got to put up
- 1:39:03wins. And eight says we're on the
- 1:39:05right track to be that top two top three every year team in the
- 1:39:11ACC. And that's where we need to get
- 1:39:12back to it. That's the first step is
- 1:39:15consistently being in the conversation with the Clemson's
- 1:39:19and Miami's want to be mentioned in that same discussion year in,
- 1:39:24year out. You got to go out there and win
- 1:39:268 games this year. All right, so I like this tally
- 1:39:29said 19, You said eight. I'm staying 4 because there's
- 1:39:34four games left in the season there for all those young bucks
- 1:39:39have the opportunity to start playing.
- 1:39:40Chris Lester said it on this program.
- 1:39:42He was, he said the game he was looking forward to with Syracuse
- 1:39:45because he knew Keelan. I'm going to start calling him
- 1:39:48Keelan because I don't want Mama come beat me up.
- 1:39:52But those guys now have the opportunity.
- 1:39:54There's one other guy that might have the opportunity as well and
- 1:39:58Tally, you mentioned that you would like to see him back and
- 1:40:00that's Tucker Holloway. There's an opportunity.
- 1:40:03Tucker Holloway plays this last month of the season because he
- 1:40:06would keep his red shirt and two more years of eligibility left,
- 1:40:09which would be shoes. Shout out B Fish.
- 1:40:10Yes, we know B Fish because she have disability back there in
- 1:40:13the three and eight season. But.
- 1:40:17We need a we we remember that. I will never forget that man,
- 1:40:22but that those. I hope somebody cares about a
- 1:40:25situation like B Fish cared about Tucker Holloway's red
- 1:40:28shirt. Golly, he was mad.
- 1:40:31He. Was so mad and we were like we
- 1:40:34need to win a game and. Right.
- 1:40:36We got to show something. I don't want to throw too much
- 1:40:38out, you know, I know it's week by week, but we just talking
- 1:40:41numbers here, but 19, you get to 19, you know how many wins that
- 1:40:45gives you for the season, gives you nine wins for the season.
- 1:40:49You got opportunity to win 10 games.
- 1:40:53Hey. Just saying man.
- 1:40:55But you. But you know what?
- 1:40:56You at least need to make but. Hey, but you know what that nine
- 1:41:00does too if things break like you want it to break.
- 1:41:05Look at him. Look.
- 1:41:05At him. Look at him coming in late.
- 1:41:07And ready. But Batali and I don't want to
- 1:41:10speak it. Put 9 and things break right?
- 1:41:15Y'all know where we can where you can drive to?
- 1:41:18Actually, Yeah, yeah, put that up.
- 1:41:22There. That's right.
- 1:41:23That's right. There you go.
- 1:41:24There you go. Houston coming in high Coming in
- 1:41:27high. I love it.
- 1:41:28Love it. We missed you tonight, Andretti,
- 1:41:30and I'm just going to throw all these up here just in case A.

- 1:41:56And again, we haven't decided if we're doing it early.
- 1:42:01Well, there you go. Put him up there.
- 1:42:03He he's make sure you subscribe to Andretti.
- 1:42:05That's what she said. Make sure you subscribe to
- 1:42:11Andretti to the account, man. I don't want to pull your name
- 1:42:13out. You ain't subscribed because
- 1:42:15Tally going to call you and be like you were going to win it,
- 1:42:18but you didn't subscribe to our YouTube channel so we can't give
- 1:42:21it to you for for all those who. Are two step process fellas.
- 1:42:25Effectively put it on there. Brian, do you have a cut off
- 1:42:30date that you need it on there by?
- 1:42:33Because I don't know if you're able to pull, how quick he's
- 1:42:35going to be able to pull everything.
- 1:42:36So I mean, put it on, it's got to be either week 8-9 or ten
- 1:42:40episodes. By.
