Latest / Twin Cities Territory / Brooks Lee, Joe Ryan come up big in an electric win in Chicago
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: The Twins win a barn burner Tuesday in Chicago and
- 0:04Speaker 1: have split the first two games of the series against
- 0:07Speaker 1: the White Sox, brooks Lee coming up with a big
- 0:10Speaker 1: hit after a little bit of adversity, Joe Ryan a
- 0:14Speaker 1: dazzling game at least until the eighth inning, and what's
- 0:17Speaker 1: going on with Byron Buxton's hip. We've got all that
- 0:19Speaker 1: and more to talk about today on Twin City's Territory
- 0:23Speaker 1: or Minnesota Twins podcast here on the Foul Territory Network.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'ms Zach Pierce of the Athletic, joined as always by
- 0:30Speaker 1: Dan Hayes, the Athletics, Minnesota Twins beat writer, and Tyler Duffy,
- 0:35Speaker 1: longtime Major leaguer and Minnesota Twin Guys. Two games since
- 0:41Speaker 1: we last talked in Chicago, and the Twins got off
- 0:44Speaker 1: on the wrong foot on Monday with a three to
- 0:46Speaker 1: one loss, although brooks Lee did make us four for
- 0:49Speaker 1: five now in the Daily Dingers Predictions game, so kudos
- 0:53Speaker 1: shout out to him. But then Tuesday night with the
- 0:56Speaker 1: one we probably want to spend the most time talking
- 0:58Speaker 1: about because it was quite a doozy. Joe Ryan went
- 1:01Speaker 1: into the eighth inning, pitched a great game, until he
- 1:04Speaker 1: ran into Murakami of the White Sox, who leads as
- 1:08Speaker 1: the majors and homers. So I didn't even look that up.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I think he does.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I don't think any buys caught him. But twenty now.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And Yeah, Twins were up two to zero. Murrakami got
- 1:19Speaker 1: him both back in the eighth with a home run
- 1:21Speaker 1: off of Ryan, and it looked like it was going
- 1:24Speaker 1: to go Chicago's way. They had first and third in
- 1:27Speaker 1: the tenth inning and got out of it with just
- 1:29Speaker 1: a wild double playoff the bat again of Murakami. Twins
- 1:33Speaker 1: scored three in the eleventh off brooks Lee's bases clearing double,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and Dan got to be the kind of game that
- 1:40Speaker 1: left the team with a pumped up clubhouse afterwards.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because they know that these are important games. And
- 1:45Speaker 2: it's funny that the Twins and the White Sox are
- 1:47Speaker 2: playing important games just like we all expected on opening day,
- 1:51Speaker 2: two teams that were coming off really tough seasons last year,
- 1:55Speaker 2: and yet here they are playing really well and the
- 1:58Speaker 2: White Sox are riding men. Talk Murakami and it's nineteen
- 2:02Speaker 2: home runs not twenty. Gave him one extra credit there,
- 2:04Speaker 2: but that was a high wire act. Especially in those
- 2:08Speaker 2: late innings, Like there was the Cody Clemens being thrown
- 2:13Speaker 2: out at home on the RCA base hit to end
- 2:16Speaker 2: the tenth inning, and like then the White Sox have
- 2:19Speaker 2: three outs to walk them off at that point, and
- 2:21Speaker 2: with the way the game is going, you think it's
- 2:23Speaker 2: gonna happen. Taylor Rogers gets the double playball off of
- 2:26Speaker 2: Murakami's bat, Josh Bell with an outstanding play and awareness
- 2:31Speaker 2: on that. Sam Antonacci ran straight back basically to avoid
- 2:37Speaker 2: the tag and was hoping to let Akunya get home
- 2:40Speaker 2: in time.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But he did not.
- 2:41Speaker 2: And like you go from like it feels like it's
- 2:45Speaker 2: ninety nine percent chance the other team is going to
- 2:48Speaker 2: win either way, and then you get out of it
- 2:53Speaker 2: and it's another inning. It's just crazy, and it's one
- 2:56Speaker 2: of the reasons like the sudden death baseball, like it's
- 3:00Speaker 2: speeds things up in those late ings where you could
- 3:01Speaker 2: be dragging on for another two hours, but everybody is
- 3:06Speaker 2: a shot. It feels like everybody has a shot, and
- 3:08Speaker 2: both teams couldn't get it done for that first couple
- 3:11Speaker 2: of innings. The eleventh, you know, Luke Keishall starts with
- 3:14Speaker 2: a single Byron buckson with the challenge on the three two,
- 3:19Speaker 2: it was called to strike, but he knew it, and
- 3:21Speaker 2: he knew it right away. He saw him do the
- 3:23Speaker 2: tap and afterwards he said east to west, I'm good.
- 3:26Speaker 2: He's He's like, I'm still working on the north to
- 3:28Speaker 2: south on the challenges, but he knew it and he
- 3:31Speaker 2: draws a walk and you know then Brooks League clearly
- 3:35Speaker 2: looking for fastballs, just took some healthy cuts on the
- 3:39Speaker 2: first two, foul them back, just missed him and then
- 3:41Speaker 2: got enough of a splitter to put it into the
- 3:43Speaker 2: wall right and Byron Buckson was the trail runner on
- 3:47Speaker 2: the play. He almost passed. I think he was. I
- 3:49Speaker 2: think he was falling Luke Keishall. He almost got up
- 3:51Speaker 2: to Luke Keishall, who's very quick himself. And there it
- 3:55Speaker 2: was a it was a happy clubhouse. There were a
- 3:57Speaker 2: lot of good moments across the board that the Twins
- 4:01Speaker 2: have had a lot of good team wins where you've
- 4:03Speaker 2: had contributors across the board, and you could see it
- 4:06Speaker 2: through the bullpen last night. Multiple guys came up and
- 4:09Speaker 2: showed in big spots. Joe Ryan was great, so they
- 4:14Speaker 2: needed that. Twenty seven and twenty eight's a heck of
- 4:17Speaker 2: a lot better than twenty six and twenty nine. They're
- 4:20Speaker 2: they're feeling good about where they are, and they're four
- 4:22Speaker 2: and one on the road trip with four wins where
- 4:25Speaker 2: it's two runs or fewer in all of those games.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That's the kind of road trip that you go, oh,
- 4:30Speaker 2: this is a building block. And you could tell that
- 4:31Speaker 2: they felt that in the clubhouse afterwards.
- 4:35Speaker 3: Tyler.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I'm sure any win is very welcome in the clubhouse.
- 4:39Speaker 1: But the kind of game where you have it and
- 4:41Speaker 1: then you don't have it and looks like you're going
- 4:43Speaker 1: to lose, and then you come back and still pull
- 4:45Speaker 1: off a win, especially on the road against Arrival, has
- 4:47Speaker 1: got to give a little extra juice.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah, the road.
- 4:51Speaker 4: You know, winning late in somebody's place, you know, you
- 4:55Speaker 4: can't walk them off, so you've got to beat them
- 4:56Speaker 4: the hard way.
- 4:58Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:58Speaker 4: It's huge, huge from momentum, it's huge for everybody who contributed.
- 5:02Speaker 3: To that game.
- 5:03Speaker 4: You know, every little thing mattered. You know, wasn't a
- 5:05Speaker 4: big blowout game and you know the finals three to one,
- 5:08Speaker 4: you know, it's just it's a hard fought, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 4: well pitched game across the board pretty much, you know,
- 5:15Speaker 4: and uh, you know, it's funny you get in that
- 5:17Speaker 4: clubhouse after and you're kind of worn out. You've been
- 5:20Speaker 4: there since you know, one o'clock, two o'clock probably, and
- 5:22Speaker 4: I don't know what time the game ended, but like
- 5:24Speaker 4: it's a long day at the yard, and you're like,
- 5:25Speaker 4: you know what, if I'm gonna be here this long,
- 5:27Speaker 4: we better win this game.
- 5:28Speaker 3: And so, you know, it's it's one. It's good to
- 5:31Speaker 3: see guys.
- 5:32Speaker 4: It happened again, you know, different guys who contributed. Brooks
- 5:34Speaker 4: seems to be, you know, kind of coming into his
- 5:36Speaker 4: own right now.
- 5:37Speaker 3: He's been hot.
- 5:39Speaker 4: You know, hopefully Buck can get right, you know, get
- 5:41Speaker 4: feeling how he wants to feel. But you know, it's
- 5:45Speaker 4: it's not how much you win, it's just that you win.
- 5:47Speaker 4: And so especially a team like the White Sox, who
- 5:50Speaker 4: I don't think anyone is expecting to be quite this
- 5:53Speaker 4: in the mix. You know, to split the first two
- 5:56Speaker 4: and give yourself a chance to you know, win if
- 5:58Speaker 4: you win one more, you split this.
- 6:00Speaker 3: So that's all you can ask for. And you know,
- 6:02Speaker 3: face the face, some good pitching.
- 6:04Speaker 4: I mean, like I said, Joe threw the ball, well,
- 6:06Speaker 4: I think Zeud his stuff looked great.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Too. You know they both Yeah, regardless.
- 6:09Speaker 4: Of outcomes, they're outing their stuff was really really good.
- 6:13Speaker 4: So I don't know if that mound feels nice in Chicago.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Something's in the water. But you know it's touching ninety
- 6:19Speaker 4: seven for Joe and you know in the middle of
- 6:21Speaker 4: that game there and finishing strong, he's he looks like
- 6:24Speaker 4: he's getting on a roll.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Too, Tyler.
- 6:26Speaker 2: It's eighty degrees, That's what it is. That's the magic.
- 6:31Speaker 2: It's finally warm. People's bodies are warm and up. Anthony
- 6:35Speaker 2: Bond it was yeah, four pitches, four different pitch types
- 6:39Speaker 2: from Anthony Bonda last night, two miles an hour or
- 6:43Speaker 2: more up and his fastball was up two point seven
- 6:45Speaker 2: miles per hour. Uh. He hit ninety seven six last night.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That's I believe that's the season high for him. The
- 6:52Speaker 2: warm weather is absolutely helping these guys. And there's some
- 6:55Speaker 2: you know, it was only fifteen thousand for the crowd
- 6:57Speaker 2: last night, but it was a loud crowd. In fact,
- 6:59Speaker 2: when Joe got removed after giving up the home run.
- 7:02Speaker 2: You know, the White Sox have always done the no no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 7:05Speaker 2: hey goodbye. That was super charged last night. That was
- 7:09Speaker 2: one of the loudest ones in its fifteen thousand. You know,
- 7:11Speaker 2: a crowd of thirty thousand the night the day before
- 7:14Speaker 2: for Memorial Day. So I think there's some energy in
- 7:16Speaker 2: the ballpark, great weather, and two teams that are feeling
- 7:20Speaker 2: themselves right now and you know, bringing the best out
- 7:23Speaker 2: of each other.
- 7:24Speaker 1: We will talk more about Joe Ryan later, but yes,
- 7:27Speaker 1: Debbie Matthews, you mentioned both of you mentioned also a
- 7:31Speaker 1: great start on Monday in the losing effort. Six innings, pitch,
- 7:35Speaker 1: five hits, three runs, six strikeouts. Most of that damage
- 7:38Speaker 1: came in the first two innings and he really settled
- 7:40Speaker 1: down after that. The Twins just could not find a
- 7:44Speaker 1: hit to get themselves back in the game later on.
- 7:47Speaker 1: But I also have to apologize to Sam Antonacci because
- 7:53Speaker 1: I last night posted that he made a huge base
- 7:57Speaker 1: running mistake on that play and.
- 7:59Speaker 3: The him on the tenth.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I thought watching it live that Josh Bell caught it
- 8:03Speaker 1: on the fly, and I did too. Yeah, it was
- 8:07Speaker 1: very confused why he would leave the basse, but now
- 8:09Speaker 1: I understand, because you can't just stand on the base.
- 8:12Speaker 1: If you have to run, you will be out. So
- 8:14Speaker 1: he was trying to make the best of a bad situation,
- 8:17Speaker 1: but just a great heads up play by Josh Bell.
- 8:20Speaker 1: First of all, just to make the pick at first
- 8:23Speaker 1: and then to step on the base as he was chasing,
- 8:26Speaker 1: also simultaneously chasing after Antonacci, and then Antonacci called out
- 8:32Speaker 1: for being out of the baseline rather than getting tagged.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I'm not sure Belle actually did tag him, but didn't matter.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And just what that was.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a huge play. Look, they were in,
- 8:43Speaker 2: there's a fast runner on third, there's one out. That's
- 8:46Speaker 2: the ball games, Like, yeah, it was exactly. It was
- 8:50Speaker 2: over the chances of them winning right there. We were
- 8:53Speaker 2: minus fifty per I mean they were you know, the
- 8:55Speaker 2: White Sox were winning that game. And like Bell knew
- 8:59Speaker 2: he had to go second base. And he's not great throwing,
- 9:02Speaker 2: like that's that's definitely why he's not a full time
- 9:06Speaker 2: first baseman. His arm is inaccurate. We've seen a couple
- 9:09Speaker 2: of rough throws earlier this year. But he knew the
- 9:13Speaker 2: play was to go to second. But he turned around
- 9:15Speaker 2: immediately on them because they got there so fast, and
- 9:18Speaker 2: was right on the bag and tagged it. And that
- 9:20Speaker 2: was super heads up because Antonacci ran straight back like
- 9:24Speaker 2: down the first base line, essentially. And but the thing
- 9:28Speaker 2: is is, I will say I don't think your instinct
- 9:31Speaker 2: is totally wrong there, because I was still shocked to
- 9:35Speaker 2: Antonaci just didn't take second earlier in the bat. And
- 9:38Speaker 2: now I know it's a power hitter up. I know
- 9:40Speaker 2: it's like a run producing guy, and maybe you don't
- 9:42Speaker 2: want to mess up as a bat. So I'll say
- 9:44Speaker 2: that offered that caveat. But the twins were absolutely in
- 9:48Speaker 2: Sam Antonaci steel second base if he wanted it. Bell
- 9:51Speaker 2: was playing in. Both second and third base were playing in.
- 9:55Speaker 2: It was clear that it was there for the taking
- 9:57Speaker 2: and he didn't. And so you know that's second and third,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and it's right to Mercamma's ball was right to Bell.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Bell.
- 10:05Speaker 2: I don't know if he can tag the bag and
- 10:07Speaker 2: then throw home or if he has to throw home
- 10:09Speaker 2: first in the inning is still extended, but so I
- 10:12Speaker 2: do think there's a chance to the Antinachi probably should
- 10:14Speaker 2: have stolen second and taken the double play out of
- 10:17Speaker 2: the way. But again, mirra Com has been incredible. I
- 10:21Speaker 2: don't know if I want to take the bat out
- 10:22Speaker 2: of his hands right there. Just some fluky thing happens
- 10:26Speaker 2: and then there's two outs. But yeah, Josh Bell, Kudos
- 10:30Speaker 2: to him for the heads up play. Taylor Rogers gets
- 10:32Speaker 2: out of that jam effectively gets a ground ball off
- 10:35Speaker 2: the bat of We were shocked they even allowed Taylor
- 10:39Speaker 2: Rodgers to pitch to Miracle because like, that's you know,
- 10:43Speaker 2: it's lefty, lefty, You got that in your favor. But
- 10:46Speaker 2: you had a righty ready in the pen to go
- 10:49Speaker 2: and join Gomez. Could have brought him in and had
- 10:51Speaker 2: him face Vargas with the bases loaded and just moved on.
- 10:56Speaker 2: But they they went at him and they got it,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and you know, they attacked right away. It was like
- 11:00Speaker 2: strike one, strike two, and then you know we're coming
- 11:03Speaker 2: work the count. But that was a huge moment, not
- 11:06Speaker 2: just for the game, but for the them and potentially,
- 11:09Speaker 2: you know, just the rest of this road trip.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Fourth win in five games to start the trip. As
- 11:16Speaker 1: you said, Dan and the Twins will take it. Despite
- 11:20Speaker 1: the strategic excuse that may have happened. We're on a

- 12:41Speaker 1: Hey, all right, we're back and talking about the Twins
- 12:48Speaker 1: win Tuesday night and beyond. I think one of the
- 12:50Speaker 1: big stories Dan, you wrote about it last night has
- 12:53Speaker 1: been brooks Lee, who got some news that any competitive
- 12:57Speaker 1: player doesn't want to hear about moving from shortstop to
- 13:00Speaker 1: third base and has responded quite well and had another
- 13:04Speaker 1: incident in last night's game that could have tipped things
- 13:08Speaker 1: in the wrong to the wrong direction for him. But
- 13:11Speaker 1: I delivered the big hit in the eleventh inning last night,
- 13:14Speaker 1: the basis clearing double that we talked about earlier, had
- 13:16Speaker 1: the only run of the game on Monday. Actually, overall
- 13:21Speaker 1: in his last seven games, became prepared guys thirty three
- 13:27Speaker 1: average nine for twenty seven with a one three to
- 13:29Speaker 1: zero ops that homer that kept our Daily Dinger's prowess
- 13:33Speaker 1: rolling and six RBIs And Dan, he's the team leader
- 13:37Speaker 1: overall in RBIs.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Is he not?
- 13:39Speaker 2: Yeah, he is, And we talked to him. We finally
- 13:42Speaker 2: got to catch up to him because none of us
- 13:44Speaker 2: were in Boston three city trip and it's funny, all
- 13:47Speaker 2: four reporters are in Chicago and in Pittsburgh, but nobody
- 13:51Speaker 2: was in Boston when they made the position switch over
- 13:53Speaker 2: the weekend, like a combo of Boston being super expensive
- 13:56Speaker 2: and Memorial Day weekend. I think we all skipped it
- 13:59Speaker 2: knowing so Derek Shelton, by the way, going back to
- 14:01Speaker 2: Pittsburgh on Friday for the first time since he got
- 14:04Speaker 2: let go last year, Like, there's just storylines galore between these.
- 14:08Speaker 2: The whole trip could have just anyways. So we didn't
- 14:12Speaker 2: get to talk to Brooks about this until yesterday before
- 14:16Speaker 2: the game, and like, quite frankly, I liked the answers
- 14:19Speaker 2: I heard. You know, he's disappointed. He thought he played
- 14:22Speaker 2: a good shortstop, but also he's not letting the disappointment
- 14:25Speaker 2: eat him up. He's like, look, they said I could
- 14:27Speaker 2: be a good third baseman, a better third baseman, he said,
- 14:31Speaker 2: I thought I played a good enough shortstop. I respect
- 14:33Speaker 2: the decision, he said, I'm going to go out and
- 14:35Speaker 2: show them that I'm this third baseman. And I just
- 14:38Speaker 2: like the answers because there was some maturity to it.
- 14:42Speaker 2: Clearly he thinks he can be the shortstop the team has.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You know, I think he improved a lot in the
- 14:48Speaker 2: last month, but still he is by metrics, the worst
- 14:52Speaker 2: shortstop defensively in baseball right now. Eight defensive runs minus
- 14:57Speaker 2: eight defensive runs saved. So they clearly saw an opportunity
- 15:02Speaker 2: with Royce Lewis down to move brooks Ley to third,
- 15:04Speaker 2: and he's responded very well. I mean on that stat
- 15:08Speaker 2: chart also three doubles in there too, So of those
- 15:11Speaker 2: seven extra base hits, our seven hits, four extra base hits.
- 15:15Speaker 2: He's been coming through in big spots. He had the
- 15:18Speaker 2: go ahead hit on Sunday, the two run single in
- 15:21Speaker 2: Boston that made it six to four, and the sixth
- 15:24Speaker 2: in name the big.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Hit last night.
- 15:26Speaker 2: I would say like you're getting a very good version
- 15:29Speaker 2: of him, and we've never seen him be consistent at
- 15:32Speaker 2: the plate for this long of a stretch. It's basically
- 15:36Speaker 2: since April thirteenth that he got going hitting wise, and
- 15:40Speaker 2: so I think that there's probably some more in the
- 15:42Speaker 2: tank with him. When he took those first two cuts
- 15:46Speaker 2: against Davis in the eleventh, he had some serious intent.
- 15:49Speaker 2: He knew the fastballs coming. He just missed both those
- 15:52Speaker 2: and fouled him straight back. And Davis made a mistake
- 15:55Speaker 2: with the splitter, left it enough in the zone and
- 15:57Speaker 2: brooks Ley did what you're supposed to do with it,
- 16:00Speaker 2: sliced it to right and Byron Buckson was on first
- 16:03Speaker 2: and he saw it. He said, he looked and saw
- 16:05Speaker 2: where the outfielders were shaded and knew it was getting
- 16:09Speaker 2: to the wall.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Way towards the middle of the field. They were not
- 16:11Speaker 1: anywhere near the line.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Yeah, they were not. Yeah splitter splitter in the zone.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Probably should have been a little bit below the zone,
- 16:20Speaker 2: but yeah, Byron Buckson saw that. He like, like I
- 16:23Speaker 2: said earlier, he almost caught Luke Keishaw, which is a feat.
- 16:26Speaker 2: That's a fast guy chasing down a fast guy. But
- 16:30Speaker 2: just good response overall from brooks Lee despite the disappointment,
- 16:34Speaker 2: And I think that's the takeaway here is that rather
- 16:37Speaker 2: than sulk and he's doing the work at third, trying
- 16:39Speaker 2: to get better at third. But then also you can
- 16:42Speaker 2: see it not affecting him at the plate, and that's
- 16:44Speaker 2: that's a great sign for them as they go forward.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I don't know click on that one too.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I mean, you brought in our cia for a reason
- 16:53Speaker 4: to camp all those things, and we don't want to
- 16:56Speaker 4: just gloss over the fact that guy played big league
- 16:58Speaker 4: shortstop for you know, seven years or whatever.
- 17:01Speaker 3: It's been Like he's a good player.
- 17:03Speaker 4: You're not getting moved for just some guy who showed
- 17:07Speaker 4: up like this guy was an All Star, played won
- 17:09Speaker 4: a World Series, like he's a good player, and so
- 17:12Speaker 4: I take that right, And so that's there's great defensive
- 17:17Speaker 4: guys on that team. And if Brooks can play third
- 17:20Speaker 4: base and win some games doing it, like no one cares.
- 17:24Speaker 4: You know, it's like pride has to be set aside
- 17:27Speaker 4: at some point to win games. And you know it's
- 17:29Speaker 4: he's he's obviously banging and he's gonna make great defensive
- 17:33Speaker 4: plays over there, and everybody's gonna be happy.
- 17:35Speaker 3: You know. It's it's just one of those.
- 17:36Speaker 4: In the moment, it sucks, but it's a team game
- 17:39Speaker 4: at the end of the day, and winning games is
- 17:40Speaker 4: what matters.
- 17:42Speaker 2: The one quote he said I loved like hearing from him.
- 17:44Speaker 2: He said, nothing is promised as far as being in
- 17:48Speaker 2: the lineup. You know, this is a guy that is
- 17:50Speaker 2: the eighth overall pick of the twenty twenty two draft,
- 17:52Speaker 2: and he's been humbled by the game a little bit
- 17:54Speaker 2: the last couple of years. He's this is a guy
- 17:55Speaker 2: that could hit any fastball in college and was considered
- 17:59Speaker 2: probably the best battball guy coming out of that twenty
- 18:03Speaker 2: twenty two draft, and he really has struggled. Last year
- 18:06Speaker 2: he hit sixteen home runs, but as ops plus ended
- 18:08Speaker 2: up in the eighties. The year before that, he got
- 18:10Speaker 2: off to this incredibly hot start in his rookie year
- 18:13Speaker 2: and then just kind of faded away and he got
- 18:16Speaker 2: rushed like this is we've talked about this before. The
- 18:19Speaker 2: guys get rushed to the majors. He didn't have a
- 18:22Speaker 2: ton of played appearances in the minor leagues, and I
- 18:24Speaker 2: still think he's figuring himself out at the major league level.
- 18:27Speaker 2: And what I've liked there's been the guiding the ball
- 18:31Speaker 2: through the left side when he's hitting left handed and
- 18:33Speaker 2: there's that big five to five hole. He's been not
- 18:36Speaker 2: afraid to just take a two swing, a two strike
- 18:38Speaker 2: swing and punch it through the left side. And then
- 18:40Speaker 2: you see him with the two strike swing pulling the
- 18:42Speaker 2: ball last night. There's you see the skill set and
- 18:47Speaker 2: I wonder like it would be huge for them if
- 18:49Speaker 2: they can get more out of him. And it sounded
- 18:52Speaker 2: like he and Derek Shelton had a really honest conversation
- 18:55Speaker 2: on Friday in Boston where they basically discussed all that
- 18:59Speaker 2: and there's like, hey, look, we got these options that
- 19:01Speaker 2: can make us better defensively, and it just sounds like
- 19:04Speaker 2: he's rolling with it.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Given that everybody in a major league clubhouse has some
- 19:10Speaker 1: degree of you know, ego or pride or however you
- 19:13Speaker 1: want to call it, Like what what percentage of players
- 19:17Speaker 1: in your experience actually handle the demotion and role in
- 19:21Speaker 1: that sort of way, Like like, I don't care whatever
- 19:23Speaker 1: helps the team win, versus guys who seem affected or
- 19:26Speaker 1: bothered by it in a bad way.
- 19:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean more often than not, it happens, you know.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I think it's so hard now, especially everyone's so young
- 19:36Speaker 4: in the game. Like coming up, everyone had been around
- 19:39Speaker 4: for years, and so those conversations weren't as simple as hey,
- 19:42Speaker 4: we're calling up this guy, you're moving and here's why
- 19:46Speaker 4: with data, I guess, uh, you know, it was tough,
- 19:50Speaker 4: you know, Like I mean, it's like me again, sent
- 19:52Speaker 4: back to the bullpen, Like I showed up to the spring
- 19:53Speaker 4: training started all spring, was expecting to make the rotation.
- 19:57Speaker 4: It's like, hey, you're going to the bullpen, but you're
- 19:59Speaker 4: going to be a big leagu and it's like, well,
- 20:00Speaker 4: you know what, I don't really care that I'm in
- 20:02Speaker 4: the bullpen anymore so it's like every moment is individual
- 20:06Speaker 4: for sure, you know, and it's tough, like it may
- 20:10Speaker 4: take a day, you know, you see somebody drag a
- 20:11Speaker 4: little bit whatever. But that's where a guy like Shelti
- 20:15Speaker 4: is so good at handling those conversations. I think we've
- 20:18Speaker 4: talked about a few times, but he was the guy
- 20:21Speaker 4: when he was there with Molly and with Roco that
- 20:23Speaker 4: was daily doing his laps around the outfield during VP,
- 20:26Speaker 4: you know, checking in with all the pitchers, you know,
- 20:28Speaker 4: if he's behind the cage during batting practice or wherever,
- 20:31Speaker 4: checking in on his guys.
- 20:32Speaker 3: You know, how you doing, how you feeling.
- 20:34Speaker 4: You know, you're good for one you're good for two
- 20:36Speaker 4: outs today, whatever it may be. And that's so huge
- 20:40Speaker 4: because you know, a young guy like Brooks, who, hey,
- 20:43Speaker 4: we're going to make this change, and I know he's
- 20:45Speaker 4: having conversation with him and probably other coaches are as well,
- 20:48Speaker 4: and it's like, hey, look this in the end of
- 20:49Speaker 4: the world. You could still be the starting shortstop in
- 20:52Speaker 4: a month from now or next season or the rest
- 20:55Speaker 4: of your career, but as of today now, you need
- 20:58Speaker 4: to do this for us. And you know what, if
- 21:00Speaker 4: it works, you can't really complain about it. Sorry, there's
- 21:04Speaker 4: a giant ant that was crawling on my ankle. But
- 21:09Speaker 4: to that point, yeah, it's it's one like in the moment,
- 21:11Speaker 4: it sucks, but you know what, you're a big leaguer.
- 21:14Speaker 4: You're getting to put on that uniform every day. You've
- 21:15Speaker 4: got a locker in a major league clubhouse. Like, there's
- 21:18Speaker 4: a lot worse places to be. And I think that's
- 21:20Speaker 4: the approach most guys end up with. It's like I'm here,
- 21:23Speaker 4: I'm gonna do what I can to stay here, and
- 21:26Speaker 4: that's the end of the day. Like that's it.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Shelton would ask. Shelton would ask pictures on the outs
- 21:32Speaker 1: they've got in them today?
- 21:34Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, like you've come around.
- 21:37Speaker 4: It'd be like, hey, like you know how you feel like,
- 21:40Speaker 4: you know, you if you did a back to back
- 21:42Speaker 4: or whatever, and you'd be like, you know, can you
- 21:44Speaker 4: finish anting today kind of thing. You're like, yeah, sure,
- 21:46Speaker 4: or if you feel great, you're like, yeah, I'm good,
- 21:48Speaker 4: Like don't worry about it at all.
- 21:49Speaker 3: But he was the big vibes guy.
- 21:52Speaker 4: When I was there with him, I should say when
- 21:55Speaker 4: he was there, it was yeah, it was good. It
- 21:58Speaker 4: was like refreshing because Molly was so old school baseball,
- 22:01Speaker 4: but like so smart. But just you know, he was
- 22:04Speaker 4: doing his thing with the position players, and so Shelter
- 22:07Speaker 4: would make sure and check you in on us and
- 22:09Speaker 4: everybody for that matter, and keep the clubhouse loose. I'm
- 22:12Speaker 4: sure Dan's seen it. You know, he'll come in and
- 22:14Speaker 4: just chirp people and say just random things for the day.
- 22:17Speaker 4: But yeah, it's he creates a great environment, that's for sure.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Be like, hey, I had too many Manhattans last night,
- 22:25Speaker 1: so I got maybe.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I honestly he would he would accept that, by the way,
- 22:33Speaker 2: fear of ance my microphobia. By the way, it's mr Yeah,
- 22:39Speaker 2: I looked at up real quick my mirror. This mirror.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I wish I had this long the more you know,
- 22:46Speaker 1: graphic to throw up on the screen right now. Dan
- 22:50Speaker 1: wrote about brooks Lee last night in the position switch
- 22:54Speaker 1: and also the late mistake reference. There is the slide
- 22:58Speaker 1: into second base that he got called out for for
- 23:01Speaker 1: interference in the eighth was it Dan?
- 23:04Speaker 2: The ninth? And yeah, he was hung up on that.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And you know what's funny is he brought that up.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Somebody brought up the slide because it triggered an automatic
- 23:11Speaker 2: double play, and in the scheme of things that was
- 23:15Speaker 2: pretty low on the radar, like that did not really
- 23:19Speaker 2: register or blip, but you could tell it bugged him
- 23:22Speaker 2: and understandably, like when they showed that that slide, it
- 23:26Speaker 2: was pretty clear that he was the intent was not
- 23:29Speaker 2: there to take out Chase Meadroth. He hit the bag
- 23:32Speaker 2: and popped up and sort of tumble barrel rolled into
- 23:35Speaker 2: Meadroth and that he was Brooks was already out, but
- 23:40Speaker 2: Josh Bell had been safe on the fielder's choice and
- 23:43Speaker 2: they ruled Josh Bell out automatically for double play. So
- 23:46Speaker 2: I wiped out started the the ninth inning, and he
- 23:49Speaker 2: said he just if he got another chance, he's gonna
- 23:52Speaker 2: make sure he's one hundred percent committed. He was pissed
- 23:54Speaker 2: about it and said it sucks. He's like, that's not
- 23:56Speaker 2: my mo. There was no intent, but it bugged me anyways,
- 24:00Speaker 2: So that's good thing to bounce back from. Two ins later,
- 24:04Speaker 2: get a.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Quick break in we back talk about Joe Ryan and
- 24:07Speaker 1: what's going on with Byron Buxton's hit.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Right after this, Tod Bother I'm a last mintic guy.
- 24:13Speaker 6: Sometimes you're a last mintic guy where you all of
- 24:15Speaker 6: a sudden see a night open up, and you want
- 24:17Speaker 6: to go grab some tickets, and you hadn't gotten them already,
- 24:20Speaker 6: So you're going to see Geek and you're gonna go
- 24:23Speaker 6: look for a green dot and see where the good
- 24:25Speaker 6: seats are and the good value is and have a
- 24:27Speaker 6: little night with the fam.
- 24:28Speaker 7: Right without a doubt. And I'm looking for some of
- 24:31Speaker 7: the best seats. I'm looking for that green dot. When
- 24:33Speaker 7: I get that, it's a simple plug it in, use
- 24:36Speaker 7: your hands, go right on your screen, your phone, whatever
- 24:40Speaker 7: platform you can get it on. And it's so simple.
- 24:42Speaker 7: They make it so easy for you to do. Even
- 24:46Speaker 7: my son can do it if I ask them. Hey, Blakester,
- 24:48Speaker 7: let's go, man, get on there for us, find us
- 24:50Speaker 7: a couple of seats so we can watch even that
- 24:52Speaker 7: Subway series that would be fantastic. Seat Geek has it
- 24:55Speaker 7: all there for you.
- 24:56Speaker 6: Yeah, and the code for you, you should know it. It's
- 24:59Speaker 6: Territory ten and it just gets it ten percent off
- 25:01Speaker 6: your next set of tickets at Seeke ten percent off
- 25:03Speaker 6: any tickets with promo code Territory one zero. Make sure
- 25:06Speaker 6: you click the link in the description, download the app.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Then the code is automatically added to your account so
- 25:10Speaker 6: you can use it later.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Back on Twin City's territory. The other bright spot from
- 25:23Speaker 1: Tuesday Nights game Joe Ryan another solid outing seven to
- 25:27Speaker 1: two thirds innings pitch. Unfortunately, the last batter he faced
- 25:31Speaker 1: ruined the shutout and made that game a little more
- 25:33Speaker 1: interesting than it was appearing that it would be. Was
- 25:38Speaker 1: there any talk Den after the game about leaving him
- 25:41Speaker 1: in to face there at that point?
- 25:45Speaker 2: Yeah, Derek Shelton said it was his game, let him
- 25:47Speaker 2: have it, and he knew it was. I think it
- 25:49Speaker 2: was the fourth time they faced each other. It may
- 25:52Speaker 2: have been third. Can't remember a lot of stuffs happening.
- 25:54Speaker 2: But now, actually, you know what the way Joe's pitching,
- 25:57Speaker 2: it was only the third time. There's no way that
- 25:59Speaker 2: that lineup got a fourth time through. He was electric
- 26:02Speaker 2: and he entered the seventh inning with eighty eight pitches.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And look, we know pitchers have shorter leashes in general,
- 26:09Speaker 2: but there's no way you're convincing Joe Ryan that he
- 26:12Speaker 2: doesn't like. Joe Ryan's thought process when he saw there
- 26:15Speaker 2: was eight eighty eight pitches after seven was oh, I
- 26:17Speaker 2: got a shot here at at that complete game. So I, Tyler,
- 26:22Speaker 2: you can speak to this in a minute, but I
- 26:24Speaker 2: imagine if you're a starting pitcher, there's nothing you want
- 26:26Speaker 2: more than that chance, even if it is a dangerous hitter,
- 26:29Speaker 2: and especially with the shoutout going and pitching the way
- 26:33Speaker 2: he was across the board. His velocity was up, sweeper
- 26:37Speaker 2: was up two miles, his splitter was up two point three,
- 26:41Speaker 2: his fastball was up one point nine. The only thing
- 26:43Speaker 2: that was down was his slider, which I do believe
- 26:46Speaker 2: that was what Marri Commi hit. Maybe Mary Commy hits
- 26:50Speaker 2: a sweeper, but yeah, you know, like at that point,
- 26:54Speaker 2: you know they had Anthony Bonder ready. But I think
- 26:59Speaker 2: Derek Shelton wanted to see just what his guy could
- 27:02Speaker 2: give him because it wasn't a situation where he was
- 27:05Speaker 2: going to lose the game. He couldn't lose there. The
- 27:07Speaker 2: worst that could happen, right that he'd tie. And I know,
- 27:11Speaker 2: you want to have your picture walk off with the
- 27:13Speaker 2: with the lead and in a win. But also it
- 27:17Speaker 2: seemed like a test and and Joe responded after the
- 27:19Speaker 2: home run by getting the next out and getting you know,
- 27:22Speaker 2: through seven and two thirds. But it seemed like Joe
- 27:25Speaker 2: appreciated it, and I imagine that was something that most
- 27:29Speaker 2: pictures would.
- 27:31Speaker 3: Oh yeah, no, it's one.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Like you said, Joe, he's I mean, you know, he's
- 27:35Speaker 4: he's right in the wave right now and he's feeling good,
- 27:37Speaker 4: and obviously his stuff ticked up, you know, and at
- 27:41Speaker 4: that point it makes it even that much more difficult
- 27:43Speaker 4: for LTE to go, Okay, we need to get them
- 27:44Speaker 4: out there. It's like, well, he's sitting ninety five right now.
- 27:48Speaker 1: You know.
- 27:48Speaker 4: It's it's one when you're in that We talked about
- 27:51Speaker 4: it early in the season. You know, the you're gonna
- 27:54Speaker 4: have your ten where you're locked in, You're gonna have
- 27:56Speaker 4: the okay ten and then the bad ten. And he
- 27:58Speaker 4: seems to hit a good streak of the just absolute
- 28:03Speaker 4: on fire starts because you know, in reality, he threw
- 28:07Speaker 4: the pitch that he threw.
- 28:08Speaker 3: And he probably just missed a spot.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Maybe, you know, it wasn't I feel like it was
- 28:12Speaker 4: was like inside it was like a he hit it
- 28:15Speaker 4: and I was like, that's.
- 28:15Speaker 3: Wait, how do you hit that for a Homer kind
- 28:17Speaker 3: of pitch? You know, So to that point, it like
- 28:20Speaker 3: wasn't terrible, Like, you know, was it a great location? Maybe?
- 28:23Speaker 4: I don't know, But you know, in the moment for Joe,
- 28:26Speaker 4: Like it's a huge confidence boost. You know, he threw
- 28:29Speaker 4: he threw the or Bailey through the complete game not
- 28:31Speaker 4: long ago. You know, Joe wants one for himself. You know,
- 28:34Speaker 4: it's and he's feeling great. Like you said, the velo's up.
- 28:37Speaker 4: You know, the stuff is electric. You know, it's it's
- 28:40Speaker 4: a confident everyone right now. It seems like it would
- 28:42Speaker 4: be in the clubhouse because they're playing good baseball. You know,
- 28:45Speaker 4: you go on the road and sweep somebody and come
- 28:48Speaker 4: into Chicago. It's the extra fans. It it gives you
- 28:50Speaker 4: that great little boost you need. And you know, it's fun.
- 28:54Speaker 4: He's he's fun to watch, even even after the homer
- 28:58Speaker 4: when he's you know, shakes his glove off and disbelief.
- 29:00Speaker 3: You know, it's just one of those like yeah, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 3: we all want to do it.
- 29:03Speaker 4: It's just he's actually doing it. His reactions better. Yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 4: And it's funny. It's like because in that moment, like
- 29:10Speaker 4: we know as pitchers, like as soon as the ball
- 29:13Speaker 4: leaves our fingertips, we know it's a homer. Like more
- 29:15Speaker 4: often than not, like as soon as it's out of
- 29:17Speaker 4: the handle, like that's not the right spot, so like, yeah, yeah,
- 29:22Speaker 4: and our brains are already processing. We've seen it so
- 29:25Speaker 4: many times and it's like, well, that ball is going
- 29:27Speaker 4: to go far and then it does, and you know,
- 29:30Speaker 4: so it sometimes you just got to let it out somehow.
- 29:32Speaker 4: You know, some of us like to scream in our
- 29:33Speaker 4: gloves really loud. I don't know who would do that,
- 29:36Speaker 4: though he also.
- 29:40Speaker 2: He did.
- 29:40Speaker 3: He was yes, would we call that a gallop or
- 29:43Speaker 3: a was it frolic? The bounding leaps?
- 29:48Speaker 2: He emotes, well, I think he's got future in Hollywood.
- 29:51Speaker 2: He shows a lot of dramatic flare out there, and
- 29:54Speaker 2: the umpires i've heard dumpires love it because they know
- 29:58Speaker 2: it's just him and not like show them up. I
- 30:00Speaker 2: think he's got that reputation now where people are expecting
- 30:04Speaker 2: to see Joe Ryan, like if he's not doing it,
- 30:06Speaker 2: something's wrong. But even with the you know, the home run,
- 30:10Speaker 2: he threw ninety eight pitches, like so we're you know,
- 30:13Speaker 2: in the past, we used to say, like the big
- 30:16Speaker 2: cry used to be like why did they pull him
- 30:17Speaker 2: so early? And here they were testing him and give
- 30:19Speaker 2: him that shot in the eighth and it didn't happen
- 30:22Speaker 2: like you said, Like I said, he said it was
- 30:24Speaker 2: his worst slider of the season, but he's on an
- 30:27Speaker 2: absolute role. He's struck out twenty two in a row
- 30:30Speaker 2: without issuing a walk and that is the longest stretch
- 30:35Speaker 2: by a Twins pitcher since Griffin Jacks did it in
- 30:38Speaker 2: twenty twenty four. From July twenty twenty four to August
- 30:42Speaker 2: of twenty twenty four, the longest stretch by a pitcher
- 30:45Speaker 2: in Twins history of strikeouts without a walk is sitting
- 30:50Speaker 2: on this podcast and the Zach Pierce from July of
- 30:53Speaker 2: twenty nineteen to August nine, twenty twenty he struck out.
- 30:56Speaker 1: People for sorry, people forget him.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, you were, you were.
- 31:00Speaker 1: No.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Duff Duffy struck out forty three in a row without
- 31:04Speaker 2: issue a walk between twenty nineteen and twenty twenty, so
- 31:08Speaker 2: pretty pretty good stretch.
- 31:10Speaker 3: Decent.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That was decent, decent.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Yeah, the courtesy of Andrew Halverson from the Twins. He
- 31:17Speaker 2: sent me that status that morning.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Nice And they know any time they can get a
- 31:20Speaker 1: Duffy reference in a stat we'll probably throw it up
- 31:23Speaker 1: on the screen or mention it.
- 31:25Speaker 2: Do you remember that Duff Do you remember that run?
- 31:27Speaker 3: So that straight?
- 31:28Speaker 4: I mean, I don't remember that portion, but I remember
- 31:31Speaker 4: Night Finishing Up nineteen was when I went on that stretch.
- 31:34Speaker 3: I didn't give up a run for like two months
- 31:37Speaker 3: or something. I don't know.
- 31:38Speaker 4: It wasn't two months, but it was a while. And
- 31:40Speaker 4: then Clare Silaire got me, like last outing of the year.
- 31:43Speaker 4: I threw a slider down away and he just that
- 31:46Speaker 4: was when he I think he hit forty nine instead
- 31:48Speaker 4: of fifty. So at least I get it if I
- 31:52Speaker 4: had to give one up as the guy that hit
- 31:54Speaker 4: a lot of them, So you know, I was in
- 31:56Speaker 4: a good club. But yeah, it's fun when you're locked
- 31:59Speaker 4: in like that, like you just kind of have that
- 32:01Speaker 4: fastball on a string like Joe does, and it's you
- 32:04Speaker 4: can see.
- 32:05Speaker 3: It when he's just living on that corner.
- 32:06Speaker 4: He's just splitting it over and over again, like it's
- 32:09Speaker 4: it makes it fun to go pitch. You know, you're
- 32:11Speaker 4: not thinking about much. It's just you know, you have
- 32:13Speaker 4: something you want in your mind, or you trust your
- 32:15Speaker 4: catcher back there. I'm sure he and care Teene you've
- 32:18Speaker 4: gotten on the same page quickly. It's with him taking
- 32:21Speaker 4: the bulk of the starts now, and you know it's
- 32:25Speaker 4: just it's fun when you're in that as Joe would say,
- 32:27Speaker 4: you know that flows state like it's it's fun to
- 32:30Speaker 4: go to the field every day and pitch because you
- 32:32Speaker 4: know you're going to get some people out, and it's
- 32:34Speaker 4: it's how you want to do it, not if you're
- 32:36Speaker 4: going to do it.
- 32:37Speaker 3: It makes for some fun baseball.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Byron Buxton had Sunday off and has been dhing in
- 32:47Speaker 1: Chicago this week because the Twins are kind of taking
- 32:51Speaker 1: it easy.
- 32:52Speaker 3: With his hip.
- 32:52Speaker 1: And we've got a quote from Byron that Dan sent
- 32:56Speaker 1: out this morning. This is from last night after the game.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Dan is that right, Yeah, yeah, correct, He said, we're working.
- 33:02Speaker 1: On that break system. It's good though. Every day it's progressing,
- 33:04Speaker 1: feeling better. I won't read the entire thing. You can.
- 33:06Speaker 1: You can see it on the screen or check out
- 33:08Speaker 1: Dan's Dan's x account, which again I recommend for only
- 33:12Speaker 1: the Twins content and nothing else. But yeah, Dan, what
- 33:16Speaker 1: are we what are we hearing? How are the Twins
- 33:17Speaker 1: approaching this?
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean Byron is basically saying, put me out there,
- 33:22Speaker 2: put me out there. But they're saying, look, we know
- 33:24Speaker 2: you want to be out there, but you're not totally right.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And it is the start stop, and you can see
- 33:29Speaker 2: it when he's on the bases a little bit, when
- 33:31Speaker 2: he has to go back into first for a pickoff throw.
- 33:34Speaker 2: It still doesn't look totally comfortable. But then you see
- 33:37Speaker 2: a moment like the brooks Ley double and Byron scored
- 33:40Speaker 2: from first and it's not even a question, like he
- 33:43Speaker 2: is just full speed. But the part that was interesting
- 33:47Speaker 2: I didn't notice until afterwards, until he told us and
- 33:49Speaker 2: then watching the replay. He didn't go directly to the dugout.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He didn't slide into home. He took a curve and
- 33:58Speaker 2: ran along the dugout to the far end of the
- 34:00Speaker 2: dugouts so he could slow down. So he is he
- 34:03Speaker 2: is still working on that part, and you could tell,
- 34:06Speaker 2: but he knows it, and he feels good. He knows
- 34:08Speaker 2: he's just not totally there, and so he wants that distraction.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Though he's played in the field just once since May thirteenth,
- 34:17Speaker 2: and that was I think it was this weekend in Boston,
- 34:21Speaker 2: just one time, and the rest has been all DH.
- 34:25Speaker 2: But and he's in the past said that DH is
- 34:28Speaker 2: tough for him, that he can turn his mind off
- 34:30Speaker 2: by being in the field and know that he can
- 34:32Speaker 2: make a play that takes out away even if he's
- 34:34Speaker 2: not doing something with the bat, So I know he
- 34:37Speaker 2: wants that, but I think he is definitely in a
- 34:40Speaker 2: good spot with it because he's able to contribute. He
- 34:43Speaker 2: was so pumped about the walk that ahead of the
- 34:45Speaker 2: Brooks League double last night and knowing he made a
- 34:48Speaker 2: big contribution there with the challenge, and by the way,
- 34:52Speaker 2: it's just as good for a batter as it is
- 34:54Speaker 2: for a pitcher when that three to two gets called,
- 34:56Speaker 2: because Barden was very hyped about that. I asked Taylor
- 34:59Speaker 2: Rodgers about the Jared Duran tap at the end of
- 35:02Speaker 2: Saturday's game or Friday's. Yeah, I think it was a
- 35:04Speaker 2: Saturday's game where Duran tried to check the three to
- 35:08Speaker 2: two slider the top and Rogers like, yeah, that was
- 35:11Speaker 2: a great feeling. I was like, that has to be.
- 35:13Speaker 3: The best feeling in the world to.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Just get it double confirmed. And so Byron is good
- 35:21Speaker 2: making contributions, knowing he's helping and says we'll get it right,
- 35:24Speaker 2: Like he feels like it's right there and he wants
- 35:27Speaker 2: to be out there. But I think it's still gonna
- 35:29Speaker 2: be a few more games at least. But you know,
- 35:32Speaker 2: there's not much time for days off right now. They're
- 35:34Speaker 2: in the stretch of seventeen in a row and they
- 35:36Speaker 2: are only five into seventeen in a row. So DH
- 35:40Speaker 2: for now, I think is going to have to play
- 35:42Speaker 2: just for a little bit. But I think as the
- 35:44Speaker 2: weather warms up, he should be getting, you know, looser
- 35:48Speaker 2: and feeling better.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Twins are eleven and five since May ninth, which is
- 35:54Speaker 1: tied for the third best record in baseball. And I
- 35:59Speaker 1: just wanted to get this uh graphic in again for
- 36:03Speaker 1: the people watching on YouTube. But we'll talk about it.
- 36:05Speaker 1: But the bullpen it is who has been much maligned
- 36:10Speaker 1: this season since May ninth. If you're watching, you can
- 36:14Speaker 1: see it all. But for those who aren't. Sixty and
- 36:16Speaker 1: a third innings pitch, which is tied for the eleventh
- 36:19Speaker 1: most in baseball, but one point nine to four e
- 36:22Speaker 1: r a is second in baseball. Five wins in that
- 36:24Speaker 1: time is tied for second. Nine saves and seventeen holds
- 36:28Speaker 1: both first in the majors in that span, and no
- 36:31Speaker 1: homer's allowed in that Sorry, you're right though I thought
- 36:38Speaker 1: broadcasters were exempt from that rule.
- 36:40Speaker 3: But we are, we are.
- 36:42Speaker 4: I was reading, I was like, oh, no, don't say.
- 36:44Speaker 1: Every every other bullpen in baseball has allowed at least
- 36:48Speaker 1: three homers in that span, none for the Twins, so
- 36:51Speaker 1: the and the starting pitching. I didn't pull the stats
- 36:54Speaker 1: up for that, but has it has not been quite
- 36:55Speaker 1: a sharpen that stretch, So good timing there from the
- 36:58Speaker 1: bullpen to step up. Twins are twenty seven to twenty eight.
- 37:01Speaker 1: They are four games out of first in the AL Central,
- 37:04Speaker 1: just a half game again behind Chicago where they started
- 37:06Speaker 1: the series. Two more games to come in Chicago. Tonight
- 37:11Speaker 1: it is Connor prelib against David Sandlin making his major
- 37:15Speaker 1: league debut. Was supposed to be Noah Schultz, but he
- 37:18Speaker 1: went to the AL yesterday, so David Sandlin the MLB debut,
- 37:23Speaker 1: and then Thursday afternoon Taj Bradley against Davis Martin.
- 37:28Speaker 2: In the fun one that'll be Those two are pitching
- 37:32Speaker 2: great right now. That's gonna be a nasty game that
- 37:35Speaker 2: that should be very exciting.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Be a quick game, Dan, it would be one nothing.
- 37:39Speaker 3: That's fine, Twins.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Don't say that. We'll be back with you after that
