Latest / State of Play / Tim Tebow Finds out
Transcript
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: What does Nike and Tim Tebow have in common?
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: They're both in the find out phase.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: It's stay to play.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: All right, welcome to State of Play.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Today is just me and uh my brother Eric here.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Eric, how about them Cowboys?
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: How about them?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: How about them?
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Ha how about 'em?
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: So the unique the unique thing here is that uh, you know, we grew up Cowboys fans, but Eric actually lives closer to the Baltimore regional area.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And uh he's surrounded by Baltimore fans.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: And he's also a closet sort of he's adopted Baltimore as his second team, I would say.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Is that fair to say?
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: That is that is an absolute fair assessment.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Both uh two of my uh kids were born in this area.
- 0:57SPEAKER_02: I have de facto adopted yeah Baltimore as uh my second team and second home.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: I used to work in downtown Baltimore, so traitor and a turncoat.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: You're a traitor and a turncoat.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: That's what you are.
- 1:15SPEAKER_02: You know, it doesn't it it's it's not hard to do.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Recording in progress when you when you're talking about the Cowboys, you know.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: That's true.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: Because they played like trash.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: I know the score doesn't reflect that, but I thought some of the coaching decisions were extraordinarily questionable and untimely.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Like the fact that they first drive, they drive all the way down the field running the ball.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: I mean, they were being tough, they rammed it down Baltimore's throat.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, they they were really getting after it.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: And and then for inexplication, I mean threw the ball like all of a sudden, with no setup, no play action, nothing.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Just shotgun, boom, throw the pass the ball three straight times or some what I don't know what led to that decision, but it it just sort of cascaded to a an entire game of of sort of head scratching calls.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: The fourth down going for it, and when they couldn't run it at some point, trying to again try to bully a pretty good Baltimore.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: Like I don't know, man.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Now they're now they're one and two.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: So and that first draft was a very pivotal moment in the game where you thought, oh, they're gonna be able to just run down Baltimore's throats and you know, enforce and enforce their wheel uh on that on that defensive line, and they they went away from it and they didn't use play action uh as a result, and you know, they just could not get back on the horse after that first drive, and you could tell like the you know, they they just didn't have it.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: No, they're also missing like six starters on offense, especially after like two of them, two more of them got hurt during the game.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: But be that as it may, some of the defensive calls again were like very, very questionable.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Not just defensive calls, but just the overall defensive play out of position.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Looked like they were not unprepared, didn't seem to know what was going on.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: People were running open the entire game.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: It was a field day out there for you know, they did a good job, better job stopping the run, I'd say.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:00SPEAKER_02: And it they did an absolute, I mean, a very fair job in stopping the run, but it doesn't help that they're missing uh, I think four or five offensive or excuse me, defensive players.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Uh Dallas missing, you know, four or five defensive players on the defensive side of the ball.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Problem is I I just don't know if they'll get it doesn't feel like they would get better even at full strength.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: I mean, Overshawn.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Maybe, I mean, if Overshawn comes back, maybe.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but I I do know one thing, bright spot, Caleb Downs is a dog now.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: He is every bit his advertised.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Real.
- 4:40SPEAKER_00: Every bit is advertised, but but the rest of them, I don't know.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: You got a first-time defensive coordinator, and I didn't he did not look up to the task.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And again, it is not really super fair to blame all the defensive injuries, even though you do have a lot, but because again, you you it's one thing to be like, oh, you're underman because you don't you don't um have you're not at full strength.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: It's another thing to look like you look lost on the field, secondary look lost.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: Like bar just period.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: So there's deep there's a legit question if I was just talking to my boy about this.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: There's a legit question that cowboys would probably be 0-3 if Jaden Daniels didn't have an arm like Mr.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Glass.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Like if his arm just didn't come out doing a one-arm push-up, essentially.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Like, Cowboys were going to lose that game.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: And they would be 0-3 right now.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: You know, Jerry Jones getting on the mic and talking to him.
- 5:55SPEAKER_02: And there might be there might be two and one if they had made if they had just done things the right way down the stretch uh of the Baltimore game.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: Uh not just you know, not just the fact that the play calling was was bad, but the the missed, the absolute just smoked pass by uh Dak Prescott at the end of the game when he could have just threw it right into the end zone.
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: I can't remember who was standing there.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Uh, but he just overshot the receiver completely out of bounds.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: And then not to mention the last you know 14 seconds of the game.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 6:41SPEAKER_02: Uh just completely mismanaged, and they would they they it would be you know two and one right now if they had just managed that that part of the fourth quarter just a little bit better, making the right decisions in the right moment.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so they lost.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: It is what it is.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I lost like all of my fantasy games by a lot because I have my injuries are mounting at this point.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: This is a war of attrition and fantasy.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: I I you know I already didn't have Puka.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: I lost uh Caleb Williams, um, and then I lost like a bunch of other guys yesterday.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, you know what?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: It's a long season, I'm just gonna let it ride, and the Cowboys lost.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So I I didn't have a uh I didn't have a good Sunday.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Didn't have a good Sunday.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm looking forward to uh to better days.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: You know what else sucks is um Nike.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: What?
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Awesome.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Well Nike sucks because uh as you know and I know we're both like huge, huge anime fans.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Uh I am a legit One Piece fan.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: I've seen over I'm a warrior.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: I'm a soldier.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: You understand?
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: I'm a soldier.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: I've seen over a thousand One Piece episodes.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: How many Nike grifters and sneaker app, like, you know, assaulters or whatever.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: I don't I'm trying to think of a better word.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Like, like you vultures out there who don't watch One Piece don't deserve those those those shoes.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: But this isn't your fault.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: This is Nike's fault.
- 8:27SPEAKER_00: Because Nike's rollout of this One Piece, these One Piece sneakers, the Air Max, uh the Air Max One Piece uh collab, complete disaster, in my opinion.
- 8:42SPEAKER_00: So number one, so number one, if you were just lucky enough to live in one of the like 10 or 12 areas in the country where the red ones were gonna be sold, so there's three areas the red and green ones, there's the orange and blue ones, and then there's the purple and green ones.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: The red and the red ones, which I uh I'm not gonna get into the names, I can't remember what they are.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: The red ones, red and green ones, I live in DC.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: They happen to be being sold at a store in DC.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: You had to get on their store lottery system that was in collaboration with the sneaker app.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: So either way, you still had to go to the sneaker app.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: It was geo-fenced, so it's geolocated, right?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: You had to live in the DC area to get a link, secret link for the rollout in DC.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So I got lucky enough to get on the you know, get on the lottery, or they call it, to get on the raffle to get the sneakers.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, so didn't get them.
- 9:51SPEAKER_02: Congratulations.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, right?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I got that far.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: I got that far.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I guess I should be happy I got that far.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: Didn't get them.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I'm alright, alright, cool.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: They're$200 sneakers to buy straight up.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: They're going on the sneaker app right now for over$1,000.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: The prize.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: $1,000 for Air Max.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: Like, and they're not even like, you know, like the the Air Max that people usually buy on the sneaker app.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Um, these are Air Max 95s or whatever.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: I can't remember what they are.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: They're not 95s.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: They're hold on, let me look.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: They are what are they?
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: They're just Air Max Plus.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So the the orange ones are not being sold in the US at all.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: They're not on the sneaker app, they're not nowhere.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: You just have to go on um like StockX or GOAT or you know, one of those and then try to buy them.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Those are over a thousand dollars.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So then, okay, so then September twenty-fifth rolls around the to get even get a link to vote on the purple ones that are only gonna be on the sneaker app for everyone, but you had to have voted in the sort of secret poll um to basically be eligible to vote on them.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: If you voted in the secret poll, you were given a chance on the twenty-fifth that the sneakers would pop up for you to bid on them on the twenty-fifth.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: I am waiting on on the day before the the the rollout uh or the secret poll.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: I mean not the secret poll, sorry.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: The day before you were supposed to get a link, and if you got the link, or not the link, you got a notification on the sneaker app, um you were you won the opportunity to then bid on the sneakers.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: I didn't get that link.
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: Even if I even after I voted.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: So I'm out again two times in a row.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: I did not get the link, and I'm seeing all of these sneaker heads on the sneaker on all over TikTok and social media bragging about how they got the secret link, and are like some of them are like you know bragging about how they have seen like, oh, I've seen like two or three episodes of One Piece.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, how is that fair?
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: I feel like there should have been a loyalty, a loyalty test of something.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: That's a great idea.
- 12:51SPEAKER_02: Like prove it.
- 12:53SPEAKER_02: Like answer three questions about One Piece.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: And they don't even have to be hard questions, but at least at least at least give this chance of for these shoes to the fans.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: Hey bro, what is what is Luffy's power?
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: How about that?
- 13:11unknown: Right.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Can you answer that one basic question?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: What's his answer that what's his weakness?
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: What are, you know, what are all devil fruit users' weakness?
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Or better yet, how does he get his powers?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: And don't say the words devil fruit.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: How yeah, how do you get just answer those basic questions and then you'll be eligible to get.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, you can probably Google all those answers, obviously, but there has to be there should have been something.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And this is where I I have the beef with Nike because like what the F, bro.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Like, Nike, you were just removed from if you have seen this, Nike was removed removed from the SP 100 most valuable companies, like a week or two ago.
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: Because of bullshit like this.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: Wow, Nike.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: Nike, this was the easiest layup of all time.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Like, I agree with like making them rare, but not ultra rare, bro.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: Not if you really wanted you don't get to sell the sneakers at ten times the cost, you don't get to mark them up.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Resellers get to take them and somehow get them and pirate them and then mark them up to a thousand eight hundred, six hundred dollars.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: You don't get to do that.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 14:34SPEAKER_00: Why not make them not I wouldn't say ubiquitous, but but put out more of them so that more people would have more opportunity to get them.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: And I guarantee you you still would have sold out in minutes of this, and there would have been more people happy, and you would have increased um like loyalty to your brand, but now you have more people mad at you than more people who like you, Nike.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Why would you deliberately do that?
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: It's dumb deliberately seems like the wrong choice of the why wouldn't it?
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: It's well it's not deliberate.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I just can't imagine they really thought this through and probably was green lit as a project by a VP or executive that doesn't know the the footprint of One Piece as an anime or anime in general.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And thought, oh, maybe you know this is a good little experiment.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: Let's just roll a few out.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: You don't think you think they just said, like, okay, shrugged their shoulders when they was brought to them instead of doing some market research.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: They have they have whole buildings, they have whole floors in buildings dedicated to market research.
- 15:57SPEAKER_02: I think they did the market research, but I think once it reached the C-suite, they said, let's do it like this.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: Um against probably the better judgment of the people lower than the C-suite, saying, I think you should do a bigger rollout.
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: This this is just a guess.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Um but that would be a small rollout of a popular of a popular anime, then you made more exclusive than Supreme Drops.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, really.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Might not be a good idea.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Might not be a good idea, might not be a good idea.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: So that that's why people are flocking to New Balance, like there's no tomorrow.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: New Balance shoes are there's like two of them that are fine, but the rest of them are objectively ugly.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: No, I'm just kidding.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: But I mean, come on now, and then you get people talking crap about the actual Nike, the new one-piece shoes themselves, and saying that they're ugly and they wouldn't wear them, they're just for their collection up on the wall.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: I would rock those.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: I'd rock, I'd rock, I'd find a way to rock those, and I see people actually styling them now.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like, yeah, you can be convinced, those things are fire.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: But now, you know, now people just won't get a chance to wear them.
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: And by the way, I've something else I forgot to mention.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: This is the cherry on top of the poop sandwich that they just made with this rollout.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Like, this is the creme de la creme, the garnishment at the end.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: The ones that you got through the sneaker app, the purple ones that you just won in the lottery or whatever, like you do usually bid or whatever, you don't bid, you you actually like reserve them and then see if you got them, and then you get a text saying, Oh, you got them, or a notification saying better up next time.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Here's some here's some other shit.
- 17:48SPEAKER_00: What instead of instead of you just got them, you you get a notification saying the purple ones, you can't get them until January of 2027.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: January of 2027.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: October, November, December.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: You gotta wait, you gotta wait four almost five months to get the sneakers that you just bid on and but and got reserved for.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: By the way, by then, who knows?
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: They might do a shock drop, Nike might do one.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: The dupers are going to catch up.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: So people are gonna be duping these and ordering them from China and all that, all that stuff.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: Because again, Nike wet the bed on this.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: You could have made money money, you could have made it, but you're not gonna make I'm sure they made enough, right?
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: For them, but not enough to be like, hey, we're restoring our this could have single-handedly put them back on.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I I don't think this is a bad take.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: This could have put them back on the the uh SP 100 list 1000%, and they and they didn't do it.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Just nonsensical rollout.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: So I am currently in the market for some new balance 960s.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: You are not, sir.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I am.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Yes, I am.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: We are not going full new balance.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not going full new balance.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: I have enough Nikes.
- 19:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, I wasn't gonna buy any anyway.
- 19:31SPEAKER_01: It's just that I wanted to New Balance is going full new balance.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: I can't say that I'm getting them from China, getting the the the you know the one piece collection from China.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: I can't say that, but who knows, you know.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: So Nike, uh good luck in your endeavors.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Call me next time, and maybe I can help you with your your sort of rollout, your rollout for this.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:00SPEAKER_00: Because you did not you did not do good with this rollout.
- 20:04SPEAKER_00: So but we'll see.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: Call us.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Call us next time.
- 20:09SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: So uh the next thing on the list before we get to what we're really gonna talk about, which is this uh this uh this Tim Tebow fiasco, um is the New York Times.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna get your reactions, the New York Times Greatest Shows of All Times list just dropped.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: Did you ever did you happen to see it?
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: I did not.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: So so there's a there's a caveat.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: There's a caveat.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: The caveat that I have seen, and I haven't read why, I just noticed that none of the none of the classic um sitcoms are on this list at all.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: There's no friends, there's no Seinfeld, no Cosby show, no different world, no family matters, not none of that is in it.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: So there's no sitcoms at all.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: There are what uh there are single camera uh comedies involved like Arrested Development and all that kind of stuff, modern family, but there's no sitcoms where it's a studio audience, live studio audience, and blah blah blah.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: You know, it's not like it's like none of those were on the list.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: So I'll read you, let me see if I can find it.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: The top, the top 25, right?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: Breaking Bad, The Wire.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: These are all the ones we all know.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Breaking Bad, The Wire, Mad Men, Succession, Flea Bag, never seen it, never heard of it.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, Game of Thrones, V 30 Rock, uh Curb Your Enthusiasm, Atlanta, arguably should be higher.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, the Office, the US version, Arrested Development, Girls, Friday Night Light, Six Feet Under The Office, the UK version.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: Um, the Americans, I may destroy you, Chernobyl.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: I'm only going to the top twenty five.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: The crown, white lotus, lost, uh.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: The comeback, Deadwood, and the leftovers.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: Those are the top 25.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I have major beef with this list, and here's why.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: Um number one.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: Number one.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: I just take it or leave it.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: I don't know why the Sopranos didn't even.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: Not only is it not in the top 10, the top five, or the top 25, it's not on the list at all.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: There's no sprang.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: That is utterly shocking.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: It's insanity to me.
- 22:32SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: I don't care why.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: I'm not even a huge Sopranos fan, but I liked the first few episodes that I saw, and I could I could see the appeal.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I saw like the first few episodes, and then I saw the last episode.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: And I know how it ended.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I know why people are mad.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: I get it.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: Um but the fact that it's not on the list is disqualifies the list, quite frankly.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Disqualifies the list immediately.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: Immediately.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: I lost my my link.
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Game of Thrones is where was it?
- 23:13SPEAKER_00: It's in the top six.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: Now, there's an argument of whether that show could have been number one or two because the last two seasons were absolute dog poop.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Like man, that show got bad because they rushed the last the last season.
- 23:30SPEAKER_00: As you know, we're big, big the last season, particularly.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: The last season, and then the season before that was also dog cheeks.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Um like I I guess now if you go back and watch it from season one, it is off the chain good.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: It is still to this day.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: If you go back and watch it again after not seeing it for a while, you will swear it's the best show you've ever seen in your life.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: That's how good it is.
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: Breaking Bad, same thing.
- 24:00SPEAKER_00: Wire, same thing.
- 24:02SPEAKER_00: Mad Men, eh, okay.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: Succession is a little overrated to me.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: It is good.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: It is good.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: Have you ever what is fleabag?
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: You ever heard of fleabag?
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: I'm not familiar with it.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: Um why is it on the thing?
- 24:19SPEAKER_00: No one's ever heard of fleabag.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Like, were any black people in the room making this list?
- 24:23SPEAKER_00: Like I mean, maybe there were because who's making the list?
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I didn't see who made the list.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: So that was Snow Sopranos one of my objections.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: My other objection is uh um True Detective, which I think is arguably season one is arguably in the top five television shows of all time.
- 24:49SPEAKER_00: Uh season one is where is it?
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: I'm still scrolling.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: I'm still scrolling.
- 24:58SPEAKER_00: Oh 35.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: 35.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Did you watch these did you watch season one of True Detective?
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, it was amazing.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: They did this, this one episode by itself qualify moves it up the chain.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Because it no one has no one has done this other than this movie I've seen, maybe I've seen called um Birdman.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: If you haven't seen it, if you know, you know.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Birdman, one of the best movies.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Period.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: Fantastic.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: They did this single camera scene where they follow the characters on on True Detective through this like war zone hood scene where there's just constant fight and they're following them with one continuous shot through this entire thing, and it is a masterpiece.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: It's a masterpiece.
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know even know how they pulled it together.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: But I guarantee none of these shows have have ever done anything like that.
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: And I love the top ten except for fleabag, can maybe can't be argued as how as to how good they are, except for fleabag.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Um I would I wouldn't argue with Mad Men.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't argue with Succession, Game of Thrones, Veep.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Might be an underrated show.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Uh 30 Rock, Incredible, Curb Your Enthusiasm.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Atlanta, I would I Atlanta's so good I might put it above uh Veep and 30 Rock.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: I might put it at seven uh seven.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Um but that's not after I put True Detective all the way in the top five.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Like it is a season one is a masterpiece.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: I think it's getting punished because it didn't make it to uh because the second season was eh, third season was really good, fourth season was like eh.
- 26:53SPEAKER_00: So they're punishing, they're punishing us, they're punishing the show makers for this.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: Uh it's got Chernobyl at 19, and if you've seen Chernobyl, you know, if you know, you know that show is just it may need to be higher.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Freaking crazy.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: You're the one probably one of the more important shows on the list.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Man, you told me about it.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: I and when I say my jaw was on the floor, on the floor, the first episode and and more, it was just a comedy of errors.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: That show was it was showing off the comedy of errors that led to the Chernobyl meltdown.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, and it was outstanding.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: And I'll hurry along because um we don't have a lot of time, but we got a lot to talk about.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: The other thing that I noticed on this list is no anime.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: No anime.
- 27:46SPEAKER_02: I would you know, after seeing lists, I'm not, and the fact that you mentioned that they left off sitcoms, you know, no fresh prints, no cosby, um, you know.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: No none of those, right?
- 28:01SPEAKER_02: So it's no surprise that that that that it's not on the list.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Um what I am surprised that, and uh you didn't mention this, but you said that number 25, I believe, was the leftovers.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: And well, I think it was a wonderful show.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Like I've I think I I for the two seasons that it was on, it was incredible.
- 28:22SPEAKER_02: The it ended very much and without spoiling, very much similar.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: You can spoil it.
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: No more if you haven't it's safe to spoil it at this point.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: If you haven't seen it, if you haven't seen it five, well, I'm gonna say what it is because it's not necessary, but they clearly rushed the end to fit it into the production schedule, maybe knowing that the show was probably gonna get canned and wasn't gonna come back for season three.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 28:52SPEAKER_00: Uh it it seemed to me the producers basically said, okay, let's just tell everyone what what's happening and what's going to happen at the end.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:00SPEAKER_00: And instead of like playing it out, they just they just tell you.
- 29:06unknown: Okay.
- 29:06SPEAKER_00: So while while it was a great show and you the anticipation was palpable, you you you got to the end and was like, but you why are you ending the show?
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Like you could have just kept this going and it's a lot of things.
- 29:19SPEAKER_00: Or at least one more.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: You could have got one more out of it.
- 29:22SPEAKER_00: Issues on the back end that we just couldn't see.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, again, with on this list, if you're going down the this is why I I disagree with the anime thing, right?
- 29:32SPEAKER_00: Of course, you got like, you know, it's got Parks and Rec, The Good Place, Downton Abbey, Stranger Things.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: These are all in the 50s and 60s, and you get all the way up to Scandal at 100, the OA, which is garbage.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: Communities next to OA, which is absolutely crazy.
- 29:45SPEAKER_00: Communities should be way up on this list.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: The Night of, which is incredible, should be way up on this list.
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Now, there are, think about this.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: There are anime, like, and animations, by the way, like Attack on Titan, which is arguably arguably better than 80% of this list, and then full full metal alchemist Brotherhood, which is even better than Attack on Titan, in my opinion.
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: Um, it should be on this list.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And then if you're just talking about pure TV shows, even if you don't have anime in there, and these are just American sort of tilted television, like Avatar, The Last Airbender, like come on.
- 30:27SPEAKER_00: Like, adults watch that show now and repeat it, and it's still incredible in the end.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: And then uh Arcane should be on the list, full stop, should be on the list.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: Now, the other two couple of things I uh want to mention real fast is that no boardwalk empire on the list, I think is criminal.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Absurd.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: Mr.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: Robot not on the list, I think it was awesome.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Uh and then for me, for me, I don't know who feels this way.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know who feels this way.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: Key and Peel got a higher rating than Chappelle Show.
- 31:06SPEAKER_00: Criminal.
- 31:07SPEAKER_00: Chappelle Show make Key and Peel.
- 31:09SPEAKER_00: We're done.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: We can't spend just we can't spend any more time on this.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: First couple of seasons.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: This is a useless list.
- 31:15SPEAKER_00: It's useless.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: It's a useless.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: I think I think New York Times got what they wanted out of it.
- 31:20SPEAKER_00: They got us talking about it, and and they got it's rage bait.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: It's rage bait.
- 31:25SPEAKER_00: Like, why are you why do why are you doing this?
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Huh?
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Why are you doing this?
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: New York Times.
- 31:34SPEAKER_00: Like Yes.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: So I don't know.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: I just it could have been better.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Uh very disappointing that that they think they're they got I can just see them making their list with their their noses up, being all snooty and trying to sound smart and not thus not in having like again, full metal, full metal, attack on Titan, Arcane, you know, Chappelle show.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Maybe they did it for political reasons why I wouldn't get a higher rating.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: Boardwalk Empire.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: It didn't have like there were some parts in the middle where it was like a little bit iffy, but come on, that whole Capone arc, shesh, and insane.
- 32:16SPEAKER_00: Um, and everyone knows who Mish is Schroeder is.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Mish is Schroeder.
- 32:21SPEAKER_00: Um should have been on the list.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: You got it's memorable characters that last through time.
- 32:27SPEAKER_00: I can't say that about fleabag.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Can't can't say it.
- 32:32SPEAKER_00: I can't say it about fleabag.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Um anyway, so um, all right, let's move on.
- 32:39SPEAKER_00: So the next thing that we're going to talk about, and some of you've heard this, this uh this Tim Tebow story is all kinds of crazy, and he still ended up on College Game Day this weekend because Florida went and took out Old Miss.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Uh, and of course he had to be there, and so they had him on the show, but whatever.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but as everyone knows by now, when Pablo Torre finds out, like it cannot, it cannot be a good thing.
- 33:11SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: When he finds out, he really finds out.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: He really finds out.
- 33:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, you don't want to be you don't want to be mentioned next to Pablo Torre.
- 33:22SPEAKER_00: You don't want Pablo Torre mentioning your name.
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: You don't you just don't want it.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: And at this point, if he finds out you're cooked.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: So Pablo just found out.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Pablo just found out that Tim Tebow uh you know, he did a deep dive into this Christian financial group called Life Surge, and Tim Tebow has been one of the biggest names attached to it.
- 33:48SPEAKER_00: The these events, so-called events, are basically part church revival, they're part motivational seminar, part slash money talk, you know.
- 33:58SPEAKER_00: And here's how it works.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Okay, the church announces that in the city or whatever you are, that Tim Tebow is coming to town to do a financial breakthrough seminar.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: It costs money to get in, like a hundred bucks.
- 34:12SPEAKER_00: You pay the money to get in, which is another a hundred bucks to get into a seminar, is that absolutely crazy.
- 34:19SPEAKER_00: Um, you pay the money to get in, especially for a Christian one.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: You pay the money to get in to the seminar.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: Um, a aka you see Tim Tebow's face coming to town, you're gonna pay and go see.
- 34:32SPEAKER_00: If you're a big fan, you're gonna go see Tim Tebow talk about his faith and success, and you know, you know, it's motivational and everyone's feeling inspired.
- 34:43SPEAKER_00: He's very, very good.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: I don't know if you've seen any of the videos, but he's I mean he's he's very, very good.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: He's got the whole evangelical sort of cadence down where he's like giving this good old ha-ra-ra, you know.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: I did it.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: And it was it was very motivational.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: It was like him talking to his team at at University of Florida.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: Right, right.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: And so, and then he and then what he does is he tries to sell you on going far farther with your finances um by investing into these financial classes um led by that life surge group that I was just talking about.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Um, he basically gives the introduction.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: So he gives a whole speech, a whole sermon, and then he introduces Life Surge and says, you know, here's who they are.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: They teach you about real estate investing and money and all this stuff.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's not cheap.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: So you've already paid a hundred dollars or so to get into this seminar.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: At the end of his sermon, he basically gives this financial altar call.
- 35:49SPEAKER_00: It says financial altar call.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: It gives a financial altar call instead of who wants to give their life to Jesus, he's like, who wants to give 10,000 racks to the church?
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: Sorry, not to the church who wants to give ten thousand dollars to life surge, and I'm not stuttering, that's how much it costs to just to get through the door, okay?
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: So naturally, people don't have that kind of cheddar.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: People ain't got ten, twenty, thirty thousand dollars to do this, but what happens is you're given a mentor in the service, and you are heavily encouraged to put in credit cards, to tap your money, your retirement money account, to uh even get a home equity loan just to invest in this company.
- 36:53SPEAKER_00: Again, at the end, Tim Tebow leaves, Life Search comes in and gives you their whole spiel about joining their$10,000 racket, right?
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: And um and then if you don't even have the money, then you're coaxed into taking out credit cards, like right then and there, taking out credit cards to pay for their program.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: And if you don't even have that, in one of them, one video I saw, they were like, Hey, why don't you take out more?
- 37:27SPEAKER_00: That the program's 10k.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: Why don't you take out a credit card loan or a credit card for like$13,000?
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: This is ultra specific.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: I heard a woman say this.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: Um, take out$13,000, and she was clearly not like comfortable with it.
- 37:46SPEAKER_00: If you see her talk about it, clearly was uncomfortable with it.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: And she said they were just being like really coaxed and really like you know, forceful, you know, people were like they didn't force him to do it, but they were being forceful with their speech, like a timeshare, like a glorified timeshare.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if you yeah, those environments can be very pressuring, yeah, high pressure.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: People around you are doing it, you don't want to look poor around everyone who's doing it, you know.
- 38:16SPEAKER_02: You don't want to look like you're uncommitted, you know.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Like you're unfaithful.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Unfaithful.
- 38:26SPEAKER_00: So my thing is, and and you, you know, me and you've sort of like hovered around this aura, this world before, and you know how it goes.
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: At some point, I'm like, come on, like Tim T Bell.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: It ain't you know, first of all, you're not some random guy.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, you're a champion of public displays of faith on the field.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: Everyone knows his famous kneel down.
- 38:48SPEAKER_00: Um, he's a trusted person, messenger.
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: So he was hired as this trusted messenger to come in and give this whole spiel, leave the room, and then these Christians would, you know, would sign up for this financial freedom grift, so to speak.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: Um and I my my question is, do you think he actually knew what was going on?
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: That's the one thing I'm like I'm not fully clear on.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the thing.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: So, as you mentioned, people were were paying or uh investing into this thing anywhere between ten and up to forty thousand dollars.
- 39:32SPEAKER_00: It was reported that Tim Tebow himself received between fifty and a hundred thousand dollars for each headline appearance.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: What?
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: So I did not know that part of it.
- 39:46SPEAKER_00: To me, it would stand to reason that he fully understood what he was doing.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Uh perhaps not necessarily the like under the pretense of it being uh a grift.
- 40:05SPEAKER_00: Uh he did probably feel like he was doing something legitimate.
- 40:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 40:11SPEAKER_00: He probably felt like, hey, this is part of my calling, and so to speak, I'm gonna help people find financial freedom through life surge, and you know, I'm just gonna go about my day and take my how much did you say he was getting paid?
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Between fifty and a hundred thousand dollars.
- 40:33SPEAKER_00: That's what was being reported.
- 40:34SPEAKER_00: She don't even need that money, bro.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: That's the thing.
- 40:37SPEAKER_00: Like I mean, but for Tim Tebow on a public speaking engagement and thinking that this is him using his platform.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, now he could have done it for free if he thought that this was just a ministry or or you know something like that.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: But you know, he he if if if the report is claim or uh the claim of the report is true, the reports are true, then he saw this as a public speaking engagement, um, even though it was you know church related.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: Here's my thing with that.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Like I've worked with you know some athletes and celebrities in this way before, not uh not a griff, no, not like that.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: Um I should say that differently.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: God damn.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Uh I have never done anything like that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: But the mechanism by which you get in touch with someone like T bow, if you don't know him, if he offers a if he has like, say, a website and offers speaking engagements, because he can do that, um, and say, hey, it cost me, it cost you this much for me to hire you for this for to come do a speaking engagement, not a sermon, but a speaking engagement.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: I'll come do a motivational speech at your school or college or locker room or you know, event, and it will cost you this much, right?
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: Like Michelle Obama, right, she can easily say, I want a hundred thousand dollars to go do the speaking event, right?
- 42:13SPEAKER_00: They all do this.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: There is, I again, I haven't looked into it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: Maybe he probably has a relationship with these people, but there is like a lane where it could have been like this is just a business thing where he was hired to do a job to come in and tell people about financial freedom and giving and like you know the whole spiel, and then leave the room and then they go and do their thing.
- 42:40SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm like, I don't know.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Is he smart enough to read the room, so to speak?
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: Like, does he understand?
- 42:51SPEAKER_00: Like, my problem is when I was a kid and we were in those rooms, I understood what was going on.
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: There, did you understand it to be a a grift or did you understand it to be a seed of some kind, like that you plant?
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Uh did you understand it as the way it was being you know sold to you?
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, because we we knew about the Kenneth Copeland's and the Cryflo Dollars and the and the prosperity creatures of the world.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: And this is very much you know, connected.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: Somewhere Kenneth Copeland is hearing about this and he's like smiling.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, he's smiling.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: Sounds like a seed of faith is being planted.
- 43:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 43:41SPEAKER_00: No, I'm talking about the sort of like things in the periphery, like MLMs.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: Like MLMs are are big, big in um both megachurch and church communities, like all church all of all sizes.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: MLMs are big.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Like, because it's a closed-knit network of people in relationship with each other who who constantly talk and you know hang out and build relationship and community with each other.
- 44:15SPEAKER_00: MLMs are a big grift in the faith community.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: And this seems like this is another one of those things, just like the MLMs, that are going on behind the scenes in the periphery that you know is going on, but you can't, you don't really like, even when you do see it going on as a kid or as a young kid, especially, I was like, oh, that's just a thing that they do.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: When you're frontlining it as the head guy, there is cause to believe that you know what you're getting into.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Like Tim T Bell, you know what's going on, but maybe you didn't understand the full extent of this stuff.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and his background could have blinded him from that.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: Um excuse.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: There's no excuse.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: There's no excuse.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: So I I hope uh this isn't done yet.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: Um I we know that he has terminated his uh or at least paused um his relationship with Liceurge while his team quote looks into everything.
- 45:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well now.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Oh now.
