Latest / Lisa & Russell / The Shaw Report - Sadly We Don't Hear A Lot Of Paying Attention To Grammar Maxxing
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: The Shaw Report. 2026's sexiest man alive is Noah Wiley.
- 0:14Speaker 1: The annual People Magazine choice has been announced and 55-year-old Noah,
- 0:18Speaker 1: one-time star of ER and now The Pit, thought he
- 0:22Speaker 1: was being pranked. I'm probably not surprised. He says that's
- 0:26Speaker 1: a crown he never thought he'd wear, but he's been
- 0:29Speaker 1: encouraged to embrace it by his wife, Sarah. who he
- 0:31Speaker 1: says is very pleased because it reflects so well on
- 0:33Speaker 1: her own taste. Back in the day. You can get
- 0:37Speaker 1: that title at 55 now. That's great. Yeah, well, he
- 0:40Speaker 1: is pretty sexy. And The Pit's great, you know. I know,
- 0:43Speaker 1: you're a big fan. And back in the day when
- 0:47Speaker 1: Noah was much younger, I think it might have been 1985,
- 0:50Speaker 1: People magazine did a little addition to The Sexiest Man Alive.
- 0:53Speaker 1: They did The Sexiest Men of E.R., Because it was
- 0:57Speaker 1: George Clooney, Noah Anthony Edwards, and the other guy, Eric LaSalle,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think. So it's kind of the second time, but
- 1:06Speaker 1: this time he's on his own. Actress Susan St. James
- 1:09Speaker 1: has died overnight. She was a big star in the
- 1:11Speaker 1: 70s and 80s, starring in TV hits like Macmillan and
- 1:14Speaker 1: Wife alongside Rock Hudson and the sitcom Kate and Ali
- 1:18Speaker 1: with Jane Curtin. She was 80 and she had been
- 1:20Speaker 1: battling pancreatic cancer. So we tipped this last week and
- 1:24Speaker 1: now it has been properly officially confirmed Jay-Z will be
- 1:27Speaker 1: the halftime entertainment at next year's Super Bowl. It was
- 1:30Speaker 1: an easy choice for him considering his company, Roc Nation,
- 1:33Speaker 1: oversees the halftime show and chooses who gets the gig. Well,
- 1:37Speaker 1: he's the boss, isn't he? So he had to, you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: okay it. Do I greenlight myself? Yeah, why not? And
- 1:43Speaker 1: like I said last week with Jay-Z, surely there's a
- 1:46Speaker 1: good chance of getting Mrs. Z, Beyonce, as well. A two-for.
- 1:49Speaker 1: A two-for-one deal. Stevie Wonder is taking legal action to
- 1:53Speaker 1: evict an alleged ex-girlfriend from a Los Angeles home. She's
- 1:57Speaker 1: been living in rent-free for nearly 40 years. Carmen Efferson's
- 2:04Speaker 1: been living at the property since July 1988 under a
- 2:08Speaker 1: verbal agreement that required her to pay $ 0 in rent.
- 2:12Speaker 1: That's a good agreement. It is. She's gone and blown
- 2:14Speaker 1: that sweet deal by refusing to let Stevie's team inside
- 2:17Speaker 1: for an insurance inspection. And so her marching orders have
- 2:21Speaker 1: now been signed, sealed and delivered. Talk about blowing a
- 2:25Speaker 1: good deal. I know, silly woman. Look, it's nearly November.
- 2:29Speaker 1: We've reached that time of the year where various folks
- 2:32Speaker 1: put out their various picks for this, that and the
- 2:34Speaker 1: other of the year. For example, Dictionary.com has announced its
- 2:37Speaker 1: 2026 Word O' the Year. And it is... Drumroll, please. Oh,
- 2:43Speaker 1: hang on. Hang on. You've got a drumroll? I think
- 2:46Speaker 1: I have one for you. Hang on. Oh. That was smooth.
- 2:52Speaker 1: It is maxing. These are the people that last year
- 2:57Speaker 1: chose six, seven as word of the year. That's two words. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 1: I know. And they've gone with a Gen Z term
- 3:03Speaker 1: again in maxing, short for maximizing. Maxing can be used
- 3:07Speaker 1: on its own or added to the end of any
- 3:09Speaker 1: word to convey you're doing something to the fullest automatically.
- 3:12Speaker 1: or optimizing it as much as possible. You may have
- 3:14Speaker 1: heard the term looks maxing, for example. Didn't someone go
- 3:17Speaker 1: to jail for that? Yes. Meaning to maximize physical attractiveness
- 3:22Speaker 1: through fitness routines and personal grooming. There's sleep maxing, fairly self-explanatory,
- 3:27Speaker 1: and relax maxing. Sadly, we don't hear a lot of
- 3:30Speaker 1: paying attention to grammar maxing, but there's always next year.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Is that maxing with one X or two? Two Xs.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Of course it is. Maxing, the word max. Of course
- 3:39Speaker 1: it is.
