- 0:00Speaker 1: Last up today, the third Saturday in October, a fun
- 0:03Speaker 1: one in Knoxville, potentially in store for us. Alabama comes
- 0:07Speaker 1: to town. We are presented by prize picks and Cole.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I think you'd have to be crazy to not start
- 0:14Speaker 1: with quarterback play for Tennessee.
- 0:16Speaker 2: And what the heck are we going to get out
- 0:17Speaker 2: of it?
- 0:18Speaker 3: All right. Number one, who's playing quarterback?
- 0:21Speaker 2: Cause we don't know yet. I think it's, I think
- 0:23Speaker 2: it's going to be McIntyre. I think it's going to
- 0:25Speaker 2: be McIntyre. He just, he looks different.
- 0:28Speaker 3: Now, but to be fair, so far, Josh Heupel said,
- 0:30Speaker 3: at the time of this recording on Tuesday, at the
- 0:33Speaker 3: time of this recording on Tuesday, it is still up
- 0:36Speaker 3: in the air. Now, I do think it is going
- 0:37Speaker 3: to be McIntyre. Number one, I think that McIntyre, you
- 0:41Speaker 3: can at least trust to make decisions at a more
- 0:43Speaker 3: timely rate than Faison Brandon. Because part of the reason
- 0:47Speaker 3: that Faison Brandon was pulled was because of injury in
- 0:50Speaker 3: the Auburn game.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Throw it out there. It's fair.
- 0:53Speaker 3: The other reason is because of he could not get
- 0:54Speaker 3: a damn thing going. When you throw for zero yards
- 0:57Speaker 3: and an interception, you got some faults to you. And
- 1:00Speaker 3: when you play against a defense like Alabama, you got
- 1:03Speaker 3: to pull the trigger fast. You have to be able
- 1:05Speaker 3: to understand, I see an open window, I got to
- 1:07Speaker 3: make a play. Because Alabama, Alabama this season has struggled
- 1:12Speaker 3: stopping number one wide receivers. Deuce Robinson got after them.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Nick Harbour got after them. Kenny Darby had some moments
- 1:19Speaker 3: in that game that he got after them. They've given
- 1:22Speaker 3: up the explosives. And you have two wide receivers that
- 1:25Speaker 3: may be the best that Alabama has seen up to
- 1:27Speaker 3: this point in the season with Braylon Staley and Mike Matthews.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You get an opportunity, you have to make a play.
- 1:32Speaker 3: So I think that George McIntyre is probably going to
- 1:34Speaker 3: be the starter in this game. And honestly, you just
- 1:36Speaker 3: want to see him be able to build off of
- 1:38Speaker 3: the success. People will go ahead and chalk it on
- 1:41Speaker 3: up that when they played in Arkansas, they've struggled in
- 1:44Speaker 3: Arkansas in the past. Arkansas came with a gung-ho mentality.
- 1:48Speaker 3: It was your first real start of the season with
- 1:51Speaker 3: two batting interceptions. And you still threw for 287 yards.
- 1:55Speaker 3: And you did enough to be able to stop the
- 1:57Speaker 3: rushing attack. Now, Alabama's going to be prepared for the
- 1:59Speaker 3: rushing attack because they know what Deshaun Bishop can do.
- 2:02Speaker 3: And they know what Morris can do. So I think
- 2:04Speaker 3: they're going to be basically telling George McIntyre or Faison Brandon,
- 2:09Speaker 3: whoever it is, to go ahead and beat them through
- 2:11Speaker 3: the year. But you still can because this secondary has
- 2:14Speaker 3: been susceptible to giving up the explosives. Whether it was
- 2:17Speaker 3: last week against Alabama, I mean Georgia, or whether it
- 2:19Speaker 3: was in the past against whoever else they've gone up against.
- 2:21Speaker 3: They've given up the explosives. Now they have the ability
- 2:24Speaker 3: to look like a vintage Nick Saban defense at times,
- 2:26Speaker 3: but still, when you allow it, if you're George McIntyre,
- 2:29Speaker 3: you see the opportunity, go ahead and let it rip.
- 2:32Speaker 3: If you're Alabama in this game, how do you make
- 2:35Speaker 3: sure that you don't fall for two traps? The first
- 2:40Speaker 3: is fans saying, I came away impressed with what you
- 2:44Speaker 3: did against Georgia. Therefore, you don't have to change anything
- 2:47Speaker 3: on up. Georgia's just a lead. It's always one that
- 2:49Speaker 3: people fall for. And number two, how do you not
- 2:52Speaker 3: let the emotions of last week catch you? Because Georgia, remember,
- 2:56Speaker 3: they've beaten Georgia and they've struggled in the past. They
- 2:59Speaker 3: won Georgia two years ago. They lose to Vanderbilt and Nashville.
- 3:03Speaker 3: They also lost to Tennessee. The last two times that
- 3:06Speaker 3: Alabama has gone into Neyland, they have lost the game.
- 3:09Speaker 3: And it's because of the explosive Josh Heupel's offense and
- 3:11Speaker 3: because the lack of the offensive personnel with Jalen Milrow
- 3:14Speaker 3: in that game in 2024 underneath Kalen DeBoer. So do
- 3:17Speaker 3: you have a game plan that will allow you to
- 3:19Speaker 3: be sufficient when it comes to winning at the point
- 3:21Speaker 3: of attack? Kalen Russell, you're going to have to understand
- 3:23Speaker 3: that pass rush is going to be there. Like it
- 3:25Speaker 3: or not, Tennessee comes into this game as the number
- 3:28Speaker 3: one team in Saxon college football. They have done a
- 3:30Speaker 3: phenomenal job underneath Jim Knowles this year. getting pressure on quarterbacks,
- 3:34Speaker 3: and taking down QBs under duress. So you're going to
- 3:38Speaker 3: have to get rid of the football in a timely manner.
- 3:40Speaker 3: The impact of Ryan Coleman Williams in this game is
- 3:41Speaker 3: going to be really big. Who can be the guy
- 3:43Speaker 3: that can step on up and be a security blanket
- 3:46Speaker 3: for your quarterback as he is playing in a hostile
- 3:48Speaker 3: environment like Neyland? Because you have Rico Scott, that's done
- 3:51Speaker 3: a really nice job this year being a number two.
- 3:53Speaker 3: You've done a really nice job with Lottie Brooks being
- 3:55Speaker 3: a number three. Both have been explosive. This is one
- 3:58Speaker 3: of those games to when you look at a Noah
- 4:00Speaker 3: Rogers who dealt with injuries at the start of the year,
- 4:02Speaker 3: but was killing it throughout all of spring practice. That's
- 4:05Speaker 3: the guy that you say, this is where we need
- 4:07Speaker 3: you for. I think you're going to need the run
- 4:08Speaker 3: game to be able to win at the line of scrimmage.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Get a couple of hard yards after contact. and I
- 4:14Speaker 3: think that you're really going to want to see in
- 4:15Speaker 3: this matchup, is runs to the outside. I've noticed that
- 4:18Speaker 3: Tennessee has done a nice job being able to bottle
- 4:21Speaker 3: up through the A and B gap, but sometimes they'll
- 4:23Speaker 3: allow a running back to hit to the outside corner
- 4:25Speaker 3: to get a few more extra yards. That's when EJ
- 4:27Speaker 3: Crowell and Atreshawn Brown can really find ways to beat you. Well,
- 4:30Speaker 3: Daniel Hill maybe plays the second fiddle in this game. Uh,
- 4:33Speaker 3: time of possession is really big in this matchup. I
- 4:35Speaker 3: think that you're going to have to have an explosive
- 4:37Speaker 3: player to Keelan Russell. What we have seen, what we
- 4:40Speaker 3: saw for most of the Alabama game, what we've really
- 4:42Speaker 3: seen in the game against South Carolina, what we saw
- 4:44Speaker 3: in the game in the second half against Florida state
- 4:46Speaker 3: after you gave, or after the second delay with Florida state,
- 4:49Speaker 3: that's a version of Keelan Russell. We're going to have
- 4:51Speaker 3: to see because Tennessee's defense is better than advertised.
- 4:53Speaker 1: They're going to be able to get after you. I,
- 4:56Speaker 1: we talked about this with BYU and, um, a Notre Dame.
- 5:02Speaker 1: But again, I do think you're asking quite a bit
- 5:04Speaker 1: from your defense. If you're Tennessee here, which Tennessee, I
- 5:07Speaker 1: think does have a really good defense. That's not me questioning.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Them at all.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I just wonder if they're able to slow down Russell enough,
- 5:16Speaker 1: because I don't know that I have a ton of
- 5:18Speaker 1: confidence in, uh, the offense from Tennessee putting up a
- 5:23Speaker 1: ton of points.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Now, Bama can get got. We saw Georgia run the
- 5:28Speaker 2: ball really well. Tennessee's got a good rushing attack.
- 5:29Speaker 1: We saw Florida State throw the ball really well against
- 5:32Speaker 1: this secondary.
- 5:34Speaker 2: And so if you're Tennessee, can your defense hold?
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'll get right back to chatting with Cole on the
- 5:40Speaker 1: Power 2, but first I want to give some love
- 5:41Speaker 1: to PrizePix. Go check out the PrizePix app. Use our
- 5:45Speaker 1: code HMA. You'll get $ 150 in lineups instantly if you
- 5:48Speaker 1: win your first $ 5 lineup. using that code. We picked
- 5:52Speaker 1: some of the things on the screen. In fact, on
- 5:53Speaker 1: our live show, we picked all of the things on
- 5:55Speaker 1: the screen. I'll give you a little preview, but you
- 5:56Speaker 1: got to go check out the live show to get
- 5:58Speaker 1: all of our picks. We like Jeremiah Smith to score
- 6:01Speaker 1: a touchdown. We like the less on Hoover's fantasy score.
- 6:06Speaker 1: That's all you're getting for today. Go check out the
- 6:08Speaker 1: live show to get the rest of our picks. Get
- 6:10Speaker 1: on the price picks app, set your own lineup, $ 5,
- 6:13Speaker 1: use code HMA, win that, get $ 150 in lineups instantly.
- 6:17Speaker 1: We appreciate price picks for their support. That Alabama offense down.
- 6:22Speaker 1: They held Texas down, but I also think Texas has
- 6:24Speaker 1: a pretty clunky offense and continues to have a pretty
- 6:27Speaker 1: clunky offense. Obviously, your defense cannot have a third quarter
- 6:31Speaker 1: like it had against Arkansas. You cannot have a fall
- 6:33Speaker 1: asleep third quarter. And I understand the energy, the fumble
- 6:38Speaker 1: that led to some things.
- 6:39Speaker 2: I get that.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I'm not saying that that didn't have an impact, but
- 6:43Speaker 1: that can't be the case this weekend. You can't have
- 6:46Speaker 1: a quarter where Bama can just kind of do whatever
- 6:48Speaker 1: they want. Um, not that I think that'll be the case,
- 6:52Speaker 1: but I think you're asking quite a bit of Tennessee's defense.
- 6:55Speaker 1: If the offense can't get up and going, how effective
- 6:58Speaker 1: do you think Tennessee's rushing attack can and will be
- 7:03Speaker 1: considering what we just saw Georgia's RB three go and
- 7:06Speaker 1: do to this Bama defense?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Um, it can be effective. Now, again, you also have
- 7:12Speaker 3: to look at it from Georgia's offensive line and that's
- 7:14Speaker 3: a key staple that I don't think people will look into. Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 3: Both Dwight Phillips and Bo Walker were able to get
- 7:19Speaker 3: their yards. Georgia has a sufficient offensive line that was
- 7:23Speaker 3: able to win a lot of those battles. And most
- 7:25Speaker 3: of the time, the Alabama-Georgia game comes down to the
- 7:27Speaker 3: trench warfare. And it did in this game, in my opinion,
- 7:30Speaker 3: because of their ability to run it consistently for the
- 7:33Speaker 3: explosive plays. Like, how many times did you look at
- 7:34Speaker 3: Alabama in that game where they did a good job
- 7:37Speaker 3: of stopping Bo Walker on first down, and then here
- 7:41Speaker 3: comes a gain of 20, or here comes a gain
- 7:43Speaker 3: of 11? Like, that's a big deal. I think Tennessee's
- 7:46Speaker 3: offensive line is going to carry a lot more weight
- 7:48Speaker 3: in this matchup because of the defensive line of Alabama
- 7:50Speaker 3: still is one of the more dangerous ones in college football. Now,
- 7:53Speaker 3: on the flip side, it can be said about Tennessee's
- 7:55Speaker 3: defensive line being one of the best in college football
- 7:58Speaker 3: because they have been ahead of schedule, in my opinion,
- 7:59Speaker 3: underneath Jim Knowles in year two. But I think about
- 8:02Speaker 3: the offensive line for Tennessee. You don't have Wendell Moe
- 8:04Speaker 3: for this game. He's out for the year.
- 8:07Speaker 2: I think it's year one for Jim Knowles, isn't it?
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 8:11Speaker 2: You said year two. Oh, my bad.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Oh, my bad.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Sorry to correct you, but I didn't want the comments
- 8:16Speaker 2: to get you. So I got, you're right.
- 8:18Speaker 3: My bad. It is your one.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I was like, wait a minute. Is this your two? No,
- 8:20Speaker 2: it feels like we've.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Had, but anyways, um, This offensive line for Tennessee, I think,
- 8:27Speaker 3: is going to carry a lot of weight. Because if
- 8:28Speaker 3: they can open up the running lanes like they did
- 8:30Speaker 3: against Arkansas' defense for Deshaun Bishop, or like they did
- 8:33Speaker 3: against Auburn's defense for Deshaun Bishop, yeah, Deshaun Bishop will
- 8:36Speaker 3: be a better running back than what you saw with
- 8:39Speaker 3: Peanut Phillips and Bo Walker. It will be probably the
- 8:41Speaker 3: best running back that Alabama has seen this year. Because
- 8:44Speaker 3: I think he's a top 10 running back in the
- 8:46Speaker 3: sport and a top 3 running back in the SEC
- 8:48Speaker 3: so far. He is the offense. But you are going
- 8:51Speaker 3: to have to have that offensive line create opportunities. I
- 8:53Speaker 3: think it can, but here's my theory. Here's my concern.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Is it going to be consistent? Or is it going
- 8:58Speaker 3: to be one or two breakaway runs that we have
- 9:01Speaker 3: seen in the past where Bishop just goes rampant for
- 9:04Speaker 3: a gain of 42 and then stop, stop. Okay, well
- 9:07Speaker 3: now you have to throw it downfield and you're putting
- 9:09Speaker 3: pressure on George McIntyre to have to make the throw.
- 9:11Speaker 3: Or Faison Brandon to make the throw. Because Alabama's second,
- 9:13Speaker 3: I mean Alabama's front seven can still get after you.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Their defense still, when it wants to, can play up
- 9:18Speaker 3: to par and be able to go ahead and knock
- 9:19Speaker 3: you in the teeth if they can.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Give me the difference in this one. Is it Keelan Russell?
- 9:29Speaker 2: I think so.
- 9:31Speaker 3: No, it's Keelan Russell.
- 9:32Speaker 2: I think it's better than Keelan Russell.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I think if you switch quarterbacks, I'd probably like Tennessee
- 9:36Speaker 1: in this one. I think Tennessee can do a lot
- 9:39Speaker 1: of things really, really well. I worry about the quarterback
- 9:43Speaker 1: play being enough. I think that's the biggest difference between
- 9:46Speaker 1: these two rosters. Cause I do like Tennessee's defense. I
- 9:49Speaker 1: like Alabama, you know, like I do like Tennessee's rushing attack.
- 9:52Speaker 1: I think they have good weapons. I think quarterback play
- 9:55Speaker 1: could hold them back in this one. I like a
- 9:57Speaker 1: lot of things for Bama. I like the wide receivers.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I like the defense. I like the offensive line. I
- 10:04Speaker 1: think quarterback is the biggest differentiator between these two teams.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And so I think I'd lean Alabama here.
- 10:09Speaker 3: Close.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Give me like 24 to 20.
- 10:12Speaker 3: You know what? Actually, I'm going to push back a
- 10:15Speaker 3: little bit. Well, quarterback is certainly a big deal. Tennessee's defense,
- 10:19Speaker 3: which has been, again, phenomenal in year one underneath Jim Knowles,
- 10:23Speaker 3: has gone up against two of the weaker offensive lines
- 10:26Speaker 3: in the SEC back-to-back weeks by facing off against Auburn
- 10:29Speaker 3: and then facing off against Arkansas. And let's not act
- 10:32Speaker 3: like Texas' offensive line is elite by any means whatsoever.
- 10:35Speaker 3: So as much as Alabama's offensive line is still a
- 10:38Speaker 3: work in progress underneath Kalen DeBoer, I do think that
- 10:42Speaker 3: it's better than Auburn's. I think it's better than Arkansas's.
- 10:46Speaker 3: And I think it's probably, if not at the same
- 10:48Speaker 3: level of Texas, maybe better than Texas.
- 10:50Speaker 2: So slightly better than Texas's.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:52Speaker 2: And they still got six sacks in that game.
- 10:56Speaker 3: And what was it? 10 tackles for loss, if I'm
- 10:57Speaker 3: not mistaken? Like, they still got pressure on them. But
- 11:00Speaker 3: I think that that is a major difference maker. Because
- 11:02Speaker 3: I'm not saying that George McIntyre or Faison Brandon playing
- 11:05Speaker 3: in an Alabama Ryan Grubb offense would be able to
- 11:08Speaker 3: put up the same numbers that Keelan Russell would. in
- 11:11Speaker 3: games against Mississippi State, in games against South Carolina. But, like, still,
- 11:15Speaker 3: the offensive line has done a decent job. Now, pass
- 11:18Speaker 3: pro has been a struggle. Keelan Russell was sacked four
- 11:21Speaker 3: times in the Georgia game. Keelan Russell was sacked four
- 11:23Speaker 3: times in the Mississippi State game. They can still give
- 11:26Speaker 3: up a couple sacks. But I do think that it
- 11:28Speaker 3: is better than Auburn's. And definitely better than Arkansas's. And so, like,
- 11:32Speaker 3: while you're playing with momentum, I think that you're going
- 11:36Speaker 3: to get a couple of lull moments where the pass
- 11:38Speaker 3: protection will be good... And I just trust Russell to
- 11:41Speaker 3: make that big-time throw to.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Rico Scott downfield.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Or Pritchett. Or Caleb Edwards, for that matter. The tight
- 11:47Speaker 3: end play has been really, really good in this game, too,
- 11:49Speaker 3: which I think is a major difference for Alabama. I
- 11:53Speaker 3: think that with it being in Neyland, this is going
- 11:56Speaker 3: to be a lot closer of a game that people
- 11:58Speaker 3: will give credit to. And there's a lot of people
- 12:00Speaker 3: that right now say Tennessee does not deserve to be
- 12:01Speaker 3: ranked at 5-1 because of how it's looked. And I'm
- 12:05Speaker 3: not here to push back entirely. But I do think
- 12:08Speaker 3: that this is one of those games where because of
- 12:10Speaker 3: it is in Neyland, it will be.
- 12:12Speaker 2: A low scoring affair.
- 12:13Speaker 3: A lot more low scoring than most people think. But
- 12:16Speaker 3: I also am not trusting George McIntyre to be able
- 12:18Speaker 3: to pull this one on out. I will go 24
- 12:19Speaker 3: to 13. I just don't see Tennessee's offense getting enough
- 12:25Speaker 3: in the passing attack. And honestly, maybe not even Keelan
- 12:28Speaker 3: Russell gets enough in the passing attack. Maybe this is
- 12:30Speaker 3: like the big game where Dijon Lee says, my bad
- 12:33Speaker 3: for throwing a punch and I take one back to
- 12:34Speaker 3: the house because I'm going up against his young. that
- 12:36Speaker 3: may end up being a bigger reason why the score.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Is, is what it is.
- 12:40Speaker 1: I think we both like low scoring. I'll say again,
- 12:42Speaker 1: a little closer, 24 to 20 Tennessee. You'll need some,
- 12:45Speaker 1: need some work to get there. I saw Ashton Daniels
- 12:47Speaker 1: throw for a lot of yards against this team. I
- 12:50Speaker 1: think McIntyre can hopefully get a little bit going to
- 12:54Speaker 1: keep this game more competitive, but for TJ Pinger, for
- 12:56Speaker 1: Cole Thompson, that was our preview of at least some
- 13:01Speaker 1: of the good games that'll happen here in week seven.
- 13:04Speaker 1: We will see you guys on Sunday at some point
- 13:06Speaker 1: to recap some of this, make sure you are subscribed
- 13:08Speaker 1: wherever you're watching this so that you can get caught
- 13:11Speaker 1: up with any recaps or any other content that we
- 13:13Speaker 1: put out. But Cole, thanks for hanging out.
