- 0:05Davina Frederick: Hi, and welcome to the wealthy woman
- 0:06lawyer podcast. This is Davina Frederick, and I'm so glad you
- 0:09are here today. Joining me on this episode, I have a, I have
- 0:16something I think is really going to help a lot of you, if
- 0:20you feel like you don't have enough time to market your
- 0:24practice. And maybe you get into a frenzy with marketing, and it
- 0:29starts working for you. And so you get really busy doing the
- 0:33work. And then you stop marketing. So you start falling
- 0:35into that sort of feast or famine cycle, where you're
- 0:39marketing get the work, then you're doing the work, and then
- 0:42the future work is falling off because you don't have time to
- 0:44market, then you are going to enjoy this episode, because I'm
- 0:49going to give you three strategies to help you market
- 0:53consistently. So that we can consistently keep work coming
- 0:58in. So and we want to make this marketing easier for you.
- 1:02Because I know that unless you're just starting out, if
- 1:08you've been in practice for a while, you probably don't have a
- 1:10whole lot of time to devote to marketing. So we need a
- 1:14different approach. So number one, strategy number one in
- 1:18three strategies is what I call the pick your mix formula. If
- 1:22you have read my book on this subject, my wealthy woman
- 1:27lawyers guide to law firm marketing in the virtual age,
- 1:32you will have seen this strategy in that book. If you haven't, be
- 1:37sure to pick up a copy of the book. There's a link, there
- 1:41links for you with this podcast either in the show notes or if
- 1:45you're watching this on Instagram in the bio. But this
- 1:49strategy pick your mix formula is where you get really, really
- 1:54clear on who your ideal client is where they hang out. And then
- 1:59you pick three and only three strategies to get in front of
- 2:05them. So for example, let's say you are a business law attorney,
- 2:11and you help content creators and poachers and people who are
- 2:17on Instagram or Tiktok, then you might want to be there and not
- 2:22on LinkedIn, let's say. Or you might also decide that there are
- 2:29a lot of people there's a there's a community in Facebook,
- 2:33where a lot of coaches and consultants and creators gather.
- 2:37And that may be where you want to be. If you are a family law
- 2:43attorney, and you work very locally, and social media may
- 2:48not be unless it's very targeted social media may not be where
- 2:53you want to spend as much of your time, you might want to
- 2:56make sure that your Google My Business Profile, Google Local
- 3:01Google My Business, whatever it's called at this moment is
- 3:04really filled out and that you are taking full advantage of
- 3:08that sort of geo locating so that people when they go to
- 3:12search for him or family law attorney on Google, they're able
- 3:14to find you and your firm very quickly. You also might want to
- 3:19take advantage of all of the attorney directories out there
- 3:22justia AV vo all lawyers.com any ones that are re directories go
- 3:29ahead and fill all those out. I'm not suggesting you go make
- 3:33an investment in lawyers.com which is Martindale Hubbell. But
- 3:36if you want to you can, but those are opportunities for you
- 3:40that you may want to take advantage of. So be very clear
- 3:44about who your clients are, where they hang out who the best
- 3:50where your best referral sources are hanging out, and then get in
- 3:53front of them. You might want to do YouTube shorts and Instagram
- 3:58reels, and then give CLTs to other attorneys who are likely
- 4:02to refer business to you. But what I'm recommending you do is
- 4:05instead of trying to be everywhere at once and be
- 4:07everything to everybody that you really focus on who are the
- 4:11clients I want to serve and I want to work with? Where are
- 4:15they hanging out? Are they what books are they reading? What
- 4:19social media platforms are they on? What time are they on those
- 4:22social media platforms and most active? What? Where can I get in
- 4:28front of them in person and locally so I can meet them as
- 4:31well. That really is going to eliminate all everything else.
- 4:36If your clients are not on Tik Tok, if they're not on
- 4:40Instagram, you crosses off your list unless you just want to use
- 4:44them personally for fun, and you can focus your business efforts
- 4:47on where you think they're hanging out.
- 4:51And don't forget that even though social media is very
- 4:55strong, and that really can help a lot of us and marketing our
- 4:57business. We don't want I forget that there are a lot of in
- 5:01person opportunities that can help us to particularly if our
- 5:06practice is really grounded in a certain region or location, you
- 5:09might want to serve on a board, or do something that that helps
- 5:15you to get well known in the local community. So don't
- 5:18eliminate those traditional options as well. If you're a
- 5:21really good public speaker, take advantage of that. If you're
- 5:24really good at writing articles, writing blogs, and, and then
- 5:28focus on how to get those in front of the right audience. So
- 5:32pick your mix three, three, only, don't go over that until
- 5:37you have mastered does and I recommend starting out with
- 5:39mastering one and then adding the second and then adding the
- 5:42third, but don't go gangbusters and try to be everywhere. Okay,
- 5:47especially when you're starting out the people you see her doing
- 5:50that have full blown marketing teams and marketing support, and
- 5:53they probably been in business for a long time. Don't try to be
- 5:56that person. Okay, because you're gonna get overwhelmed.
- 5:59Strategy pick is the second strategy of the three strategies
- 6:03is to help you market more consistently is to hire hell for
- 6:07whichever platforms or methods you choose. So yes, you may need
- 6:11to record videos. But no, you should not be editing videos,
- 6:16even if you know how to do it. Yes, you may need to appear as a
- 6:20guest on podcast. But no, you should not be the one booking
- 6:24your podcast and following up, you may need to grow your list
- 6:28of connections on LinkedIn. But you do not need to be the one
- 6:32finding those prospects through Sales Navigator and then sending
- 6:35them the initial connection request, you can hire a VA who
- 6:39can help you do that. The best strategy I found is to hire
- 6:43multiple specialists. I really like having someone who is an
- 6:47expert in Instagram handle on my Instagram account. I'm having
- 6:51someone who's an expert in Facebook helped me manage my
- 6:54Facebook group. I have another VA for LinkedIn, who helps me to
- 7:00kick off conversations and relationships with people there.
- 7:03And then I come in when it really needs to be me. And I
- 7:08have people I have a whole team people that helped me manage my
- 7:10podcast. So do not think when you're watching other people
- 7:15doing all these things that they're doing it all by
- 7:17themselves, that is likely not the case, they probably have a
- 7:21lot of people behind the scenes who are helping them get those
- 7:24things done. So focus on the highest and best use of your
- 7:27time, if you are the face of your business, create the
- 7:29videos, put them out there. But you can hire blog writers, and
- 7:33you can hire video editors, and you can hire people to post
- 7:36things for you or schedule your post. Make sure you're doing
- 7:39that for your business. The third thing is to hire a
- 7:42specialist to help you with Google ads, you can waste a lot
- 7:48of money if you try to DIY ads, either Facebook ads or Google
- 7:52ads or any of the LinkedIn ads, any ads on the platforms, you
- 7:56could waste a lot of money if you're not hiring somebody who
- 7:58actually is certified, as experienced in managing those
- 8:02kinds of accounts for lawyers. We my company, de Frederick
- 8:06media, the parent company, we actually help do Google ads,
- 8:11we're certified to run Google ads. And we only do that for a
- 8:14handful of law firms. It is something that we offer as an
- 8:18additional service to our coaching our coaching clients if
- 8:21they so desire it. But we found out the hard way that just going
- 8:26in and DIY in your Google Ads does not work. Because until you
- 8:32get certified in it, you there's a whole lot of stuff that you
- 8:35don't know, and the only people making money on those ads is
- 8:38Google. And so you really need to hire somebody, if you're
- 8:42using any sort of platform, and you want to do advertising, hire
- 8:45somebody who specializes in that. So that they can set
- 8:49everything up correctly, monitor the traffic for you, and help
- 8:53you with tracking and make sure that you are getting the leads
- 8:56that you need. Those ads will get your they should get your
- 9:01phone ringing consistently. And what that does is requires a lot
- 9:05less work on your part. So you want to be asking the question
- 9:09when you are deploying your marketing strategies. What is
- 9:14the highest and best use of my time in this process? And who
- 9:18not how to do it, but who can I hire? who already knows how who
- 9:21can help me do it. Okay. So those three marketing strategies
- 9:26should help you to sort of smooth out your marketing
- 9:31efforts. Make sure you sit down and give his thought create a
- 9:34plan, develop a strategy, and then stick with that strategy
- 9:38for at least six months to make sure that you're allowing it
- 9:42time to work. Thank you for so much for being here.
