- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Call an ambulance, but not for the Cleveland Guardians.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Happy Friday and welcome in live.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_00]: Two of the big play Cleveland Show Jack will work alongside Chris, Reflog McNeill, and Ryan Tyler holding it down on the sticks.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: Great show for you guys today.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jensen Lewis joining at 12.30 to talk about game four and preview game five tomorrow night for the Gardos.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Then joining at 110.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: Do we have some?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_00]: So hashtag Cavskeball, is that that right?
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Is that true?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: Sam Amico, that is Sam Amico's music by God.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Just like you heard Tanner Biby's music out of nowhere last night.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, how are you doing down there in Southern Ohio after this one?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_04]: So they're no higher.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_04]: First of all, I am no more.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_04]: So high right here off a 70.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_04]: We are central Ohio getting all geared up.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_04]: Jack this weekend.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_04]: You got homecoming, not only for a lot of local high schools, including Grandville High School, also Bishop Rose Cranter, both of my boys go.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_04]: also the Ohio State playing mayorland at home this weekend and it's also their home coming as well.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_04]: But the big story like you said, man, the guardians we did it.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_04]: We did it.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_04]: We pushed it back home here.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_04]: It is even a two a piece I did not see that coming yesterday.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you what I expected the game before where we kind of
- 1:17[SPEAKER_04]: busted out a little bit with the bats and scored nine runs.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_04]: I expected us to do that and then regress yesterday.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_04]: My boys showed up though, we did not regress.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_04]: We stepped up to the moment.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you what, that stadium looked crazy there in Chicago for both of those games.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_04]: We silenced the crowd, silenced the announcers, silenced everybody nationally.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_04]: Now we got to get it done on Saturday, Jack.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_04]: I am jacked up for this one.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_04]: Way to go, guards.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: and the entire nation.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely, Chris, no better way to put it.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: And there's nothing with nothing wrong about being wrong sometimes, right?
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: I was wrong about Patrick Bailey.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: The were moments to Ryan, you'll remember where I was like, geez, like a little worried about Pizana.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: Turns out I was wrong about both of those.
- 2:02[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, but you weren't the only one because I, oh, yeah, I know.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: I had a friend actively in the chat, you know how your text and your friends who to game.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_02]: who was talking about Patrick Bailey.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_02]: And he was calling him trash.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, well, I, let him think it was going to be the whole training for a single day of Patrick Bailey all of a sudden.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_02]: One of the hottest hitters in the playoffs.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_02]: No, absolutely.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_04]: One passion.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_04]: Air rolls out there.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_04]: Unbelievable.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to say one person who, if you, if you were mad at him though, you just had something wrong with you.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care whatever you think or thought about the regular season that Jose Ramirez had, whatever the playoffs stats in his career say when he said basically no one to protect him since 2017, 2018 really in the order in the playoffs.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: The two games in Chicago that that man came out and had, I could pick out probably four plays in the game three when we're Jose Ramirez single handedly made an individual effort to go out and win the game and then yesterday the home run.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Have you guys ever seen Jose Ramirez that excited and have you ever needed Jose Ramirez more than yesterday?
- 3:02[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, and he really primed the pump like he said two nights ago.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_04]: He started off with the glove and the hustle and it was like he was leg and out doubles.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_04]: He was getting his butt home and plays that otherwise a lot of other players, let's be honest, would not have been able to make it home.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's amazing what he can do with those little legs when he gets going.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he is quick on the base pass.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: And there's a guy, you talk about a guy who cares.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_04]: Man, if you've got a star like that on your team and then you've got a star like that on your team that cares as much as he does.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_04]: Like you said, Jackie came out yesterday.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_04]: I didn't know how much was left in the offensive tank form this year.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_04]: Just because of the injury, not because I doubted his heart, not because I doubted his talent.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_04]: It was like that handmade injury had really got him down.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_04]: But man, oh man, when he hit that home run, I know how the white socks responded in the bottom half of that inning, but when he hit that home run, you went to, oh my God, he made just will this team to victory here today.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_04]: He, his spirit might be able to lift it, not only his spirit, but also, you know, the runs that he's producing right now.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_04]: And ultimately, man, he was the story.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_04]: He made it work for us in Chicago.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_04]: And now when we come home, hopefully he can keep up that spirit, but man, he was just jacked up.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_04]: We saw shout out to Barstool Tate out there, getting him going there from the seeds.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_04]: He's got him responded to him in the crowd amongst just the sea of all those white socks fans.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_04]: He's out there responding to Barstool Tate.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_04]: It's good to see that.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's good to see the fun that we're having out there.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: and really in a tough environment there in Chicago.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_04]: So now we've got to figure it out at home gentlemen, right?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: We've been better on the road.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_04]: We've talked about it multiple times on this show during the regular season before we got even got to the post season.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_04]: We seem to have problems at home for whatever reason.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_04]: And we need to bring that same energy we got on the road when we get back home here on Saturday.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: Jack two chances to finish it at home for the Chicago white socks.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_02]: I think they kept spamming that stat hasn't been since what 1900's the early part of 1906 that they've moved on or ended a series at home thankfully That's not gonna happen at least in this series.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: We know as it turns to Cleveland
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: should Chicago.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_02]: Now be the team that has the more pressure on them, Jack.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, absolutely.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_00]: They are so on the ropes.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's the the classic saying didn't invent this one.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, but Kevin Malar back with the 2004 Red Sox don't let us get this one.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_00]: Don't let us get the first one because anytime you don't close out of team the first chance you had much like the Warriors in the 2016 NBA finals or sadly the tribe in the 2016 World Series.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_00]: you just open up a whole can of worms you never want to play with Pandora's box and you never want to play with a game five where anything can happen and that's a scenario right now with cl- if you're Cleveland it's like hey yeah we were down to uh we thought are we were basically done i mean i'm sure they didn't think they were dumb to say hey you're down to uh you're going to Chicago it's just go out there backs against the wall do whatever you can do
- 5:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's like you're playing with free money.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: You're back at home in front of your hometown fans.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to be obviously a more than sold out crowd on Saturday night.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is there's nothing where you could ask for and all the pressure now turns as you said Ryan to not only just a baseball team, a very young baseball team who's never been in this scenario before who doesn't have a true guy who's going to go out there and give you what Gavin Williams might.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Sean Burke is awesome and he's going to give them probably a plethora of innings come Saturday, but he's not the kind of
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: Workhorse like Gavin Williams where you walk out there like yeah, we got our guy going in game game five yeah, the pressure's definitely on the white socks We're not playing with house money here though.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_04]: I mean we should win this thing and especially now going into this series I expected us to win we're down.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, too.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_04]: I did not expect us to win now that we've come back I once again the faith is back on this team, but ultimately the pressure is on the white socks now to get it done and they got to do it here and
- 6:45[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you what, there's a lot of white socks fans, and obviously on social media starting or acting with them a lot when you get into these type of series.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_04]: They have a same mentality that we did, very apprehensive, and even when you're up, you're very worried about what's going to happen, because they've also got a young team, and they've got a team that's just like us, and this is what scared me with playing the white socks.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_04]: They're one of those that catches that devil magic, right?
- 7:08[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we saw ourselves hitting some home runs yesterday, but generally we also saw the errors that come into play that allow us to produce runs.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_04]: They're able to do that and walk off fashion during the regular season.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_04]: Haven't seen a whole lot of that here in the last couple of games and hopefully they can't recapture it when they get back to when they get to Cleveland here on Saturday.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_04]: uh... but you got an apprehensive group and they got the pressure on they had the series they lost the series now they can get it back it's on us now to prevent that
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: Jack excited to talk to Jensen and get obviously all his thoughts on this.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_02]: What did you notice that changed at the plate for the guardians and game three and four because it wasn't just like you had a couple home runs here and there.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously those help, but you had that double by Bazana that that continued the rally or got the rally started.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: I believe it was 10 walks game three, seven walks yesterday game four if I'm not mistaken.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: Making pictures work, taking those free advantages is that what the guardians can take with them to game five.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's a very important thing.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: But I think ultimately, maybe the biggest thing and you're hopefully going to see it run out over this five game series.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just, if it was the best two out of three, we would have gone home after the first two games, right?
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Is that when you have these bullpen games, like the white socks do and you don't have starters, we're going to give you a ridiculous amount of length.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Even if you're going to these like Taylor or Burke type guys who you think can give you three or four solid innings in the middle of the game, the more times you go throughout a series, using the same guys over and over again, you saw it with Hagen Smith, I think early on yesterday.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: The more chances you're getting to see these arms, what pitches they're throwing and the more times you're seeing them in like a four to five day span I think a lot of that and seeing these hits gets down is like You're looking at the guardians who didn't play baseball for a week, right?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like I mean, you can Simulate games as much as you want and take Abes and the cages and stuff, but it's not the same as being in a real game You didn't play for a week you were slow coming out at home.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: You got to see almost all these arms not just a second time, but a third time So I
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think now they're just really comfortable with the White Sox, who obviously they've seen all year long, but it's different when you see these guys over and over and over again in October.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you could say the same though, about our side.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Now Kate Smith has probably been used a little bit more than we would have liked.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now Gavin Williams went out and through the ninth inning and I saw like the last time that happened was Clayton Kirsha that a guy through the ninth inning and then started the next game in a playoff series and Kirsha got lit up when that happened.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully it doesn't happen to Gavin, but it's tough whenever you get into these playoff series and you don't have these starters going.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: seven innings like you did back in the day right and you just see these arms over and over again.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_02]: Chris, two crooked numbers back to back elimination games.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: What is it about this guardians team that they just don't have any quit and are you officially transition from guardians needed to survive to man guardians are right here in the driver seat.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: There's no excuse.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_02]: They should be advancing to the ALCS.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_04]: We've got that one feature that you normally see with veteran teams and that's where grinders, right?
- 9:54[SPEAKER_04]: Even when we don't have our A game, because certainly this isn't a roster that's filled with A players, right?
- 9:59[SPEAKER_04]: You've got Jose Ramirez, who isn't a hundred percent right now and then you kind of got a bunch of other guys.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_04]: You got Stephen Quann who can be there at times but it's generally a young team that normally you wouldn't anticipate a team like this to be the kind of grinders that we are.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_04]: And I'll tell you what, we talked about this coming into this playoff, we need a team like this to have timely hitting.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_04]: Right?
- 10:22[SPEAKER_04]: We saw in those first couple of games, we just were not driving in runs.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_04]: We had opportunities.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_04]: We were not cashing those in.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_04]: That turn when we were in Chicago, we need that same energy to continue in what'll help.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_04]: And you touched on it a little bit here, Ryan, is getting on base, whether it's base on balls, whether it's getting hits,
- 10:40[SPEAKER_04]: waiting being patient.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_04]: We saw Stephen Quant, even if he's not number number one, you know, with the bad excuse me, he got on base a couple of times with based on falls.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_04]: He was able to score a couple of runs.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_04]: Your table setting at the top, even guys in the middle of that order like Nathaniel Load.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_04]: Now, there's a veteran player.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_04]: He walked a couple of times.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_04]: So it's these guys, even if they're not contributing necessarily with the bat, if you're getting on base and you can move the ball,
- 11:07[SPEAKER_04]: move the runners over.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_04]: You can, you know, situationally be able to score some runs.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_04]: That's going to be big grind for this young team.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_04]: Just grind.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan, let's switch on over to what the guards need to do, or what scares you most, I guess, because we did this before game four, actually.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: I remember I think it was on two.
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, two is a show, maybe.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: Or no, I suppose before game three, and I was like, what's your big worry coming in for the later part of the series?
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, dude, if Tanner Rybie goes out there after Parker has a good start and blows a game, I'm going to shoot myself.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought that was gonna be the case for a little that yesterday, that was my biggest worry.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan, how do you get into game five?
- 11:42[SPEAKER_00]: What is the one thing that could happen
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, like I can't I could say the easy answer to the offense disappearing again, but I'm not going to take that low hanging fruit It's got to be which is kind of funny.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_02]: It's the pitching because of how much they've been used right?
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: Like I think the offense can compete now.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_02]: We we've seen that we have proof of concept But I don't want to assume that we're going to get nine comfortable innings tonight or excuse me tomorrow night.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_02]: Like I wish for this tonight.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: My confidence kind of depends on
- 12:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm interested to hear Jensen because he obviously knows about how were these pictures recovering.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_02]: We saw Gavin go in last night in the ninth, which I'm interested to get his thoughts about, but I guess like how quickly does vote react when somebody doesn't have it.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_02]: I guess the biggest thing that I'm watching for this game.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, what do you think about Gavin Williams going in in the ninth inning?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: Are you do come from the school of thought of you never go out with your ace on the bench?
- 12:30[SPEAKER_04]: I saw a perspective on this and I'd love to attribute the right, the right writer, but I don't know who wrote the article, but they talked about, you know, when you stretch out these pictures, even in their off days, usually a couple of days before they will pitch, they will do some simulated work.
- 12:45[SPEAKER_04]: So it won't be a full game, but it'll be similar to what Gavin Williams did.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_04]: getting up in the bullpen, throwing some pitches, which is exactly what he did in real game action.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_04]: So this isn't necessarily that far off of what they normally do from two days out from their normal start.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: So that's not a big deal.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_04]: I tell you what though, the indecisions there, we used eight different pitchers yesterday.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: I know you see a lot of that in the playoffs, but
- 13:11[SPEAKER_04]: Boy, that makes it awful tough on us when you're trying to really set yourself up for what is also an elimination game here tomorrow, you know, I really felt that we should have been able to finish this one off last night, a lot cleaner, a lot easier, not have to rely on Gavin Williams coming in, but
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: The good news is like I said, despite the fact he did come in, it sounds like he's still going to be right on pace to be able to pitch and go first, long as we need him to or as long as he can on Saturday.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_02]: It takes a team, but it certainly helps to have a guy by the name of Jose Ramirez, but Jack will start with you for this one.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_02]: Who deserves more credit beyond Jose?
- 13:52[SPEAKER_02]: The obvious answer may be yesterday, Patrick Bailey, Joe Adele took that golden
- 14:00[SPEAKER_02]: It started with Jose, but big picture who do we need to get flowers to as well.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think both of the deadline additions have been awesome.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think Nate Lowe's done a great job getting on base and he's one of those guys who really since he got to Cleveland seems like he always hits the ball hard, but it just hasn't been getting down and maybe that makes the average look a little bit lower.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_00]: But he's finding ways to get on base and he always takes like just professional at that.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: So he's going to get
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember the last outside if you had a fly out in Game 2 is pretty big and it was on the first pitch, but outside of that, I don't remember a time he hasn't gone until at least a two-two count of feels like.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: So I'd say between him and then you do your right.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: Joe and Game 1 took some of the worst at bats I've seen in my entire life.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: And then start a game 2 is the same way until he hit that ball off the wall and him getting his confidence going like it just changes everything.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_00]: On the opposite side of it though, one guy real quick.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just got to stay.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you ever have like four or five beers and then sit down and try and play the show and some dude online just throw on Kerbal's 48 feet and you're just whipping at him.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: It's like he's wearing drunk goggles, I swear.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, yeah, that was bad.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_04]: What's it put in PD 14 at bats now?
- 15:04[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he did get it.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_04]: He did get a clutch hit by pitch, right?
- 15:08[SPEAKER_04]: It's best the bad of the postseason, Chris.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely, absolutely outside of that man.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_04]: It is tough to watch right now.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_04]: And amongst all the good, you know, we talk about
- 15:18[SPEAKER_04]: None of these guys are really killing it offensively.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_04]: We're seeing contributions that are popping up here and there.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_04]: It's never popping up with on hell right now.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_04]: You got to fix that one.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_04]: I cannot watch him on Saturday.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_04]: Go out there and go old for four again.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: Jack, if Chicago scores first tomorrow night, does your confidence change or have we proven or, I say, we as if a part of the team, I'm wearing a chicken hour, does have they proven that they don't deserve for you to get down on that?
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: I guess maybe that's not the best way to put it, but you know what I'm saying.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's tough because
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: It could go one in two ways if you get scored on first, right?
- 15:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's the 20, I mean, actually, they ended up losing both these games.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_00]: So, shit.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: But in 2016, game seven in the world series, Corey Kluber gets kind of lit up in the first inning and they end up losing that game.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_00]: But they battled back after going down.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think even Andrew Miller ended up letting in a runner too for the first time, really in the playoffs after that.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then you look at, I think it was,
- 16:12[SPEAKER_00]: 22 game five.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it was against the Yankees when they lost.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: Aaron Savali just gets worked in the first sitting and it's like, oh, games over, you know.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: So you just, no matter what we think is fans, they just can't get down.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, there were reports that near the dugout, like, they were all positive even when they were losing mastery.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: And that kind of stuff is important because, like, Steven vote has set a thousand times.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: Now, like, when you're back so against the wall constantly, it makes your group closer and you feel more,
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: uh, apt to handle these kind of situations, I guess.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: So I think will I be, you know, kind of worried a little bit, Ryan a million percent, but should they be?
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, not at all.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_02]: I guess not, but what is it, Chris?
- 16:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think you said in the post season, oh, for 14, and then I believe extended, oh, for 20, it's it was at least over 21.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_02]: They set it on TV.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know how many more at bats yet after that.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_02]: So I mean, Chris has it gone to the point where on hell is unplayable or do you faith?
- 17:05[UNKNOWN]: I.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_04]: you know it's the crazy part right and I had a lot of responses in fact I just got one because I sent out a tweet yesterday totally ripping on hell you know guy just totally downing a bottle of vodka and that's what the way I am every single time that he goes to the play but there were a lot of responses that were like you watch he's going to hit a clutch home run
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: And that's the way it works, right?
- 17:27[SPEAKER_04]: You dog the guy, you'd say he hasn't done anything this series, then all of a sudden out of the blue, he hits the most clutch home run you've ever seen in your life, and we have seen that before.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_04]: So that's where I always is a fan, caution.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_04]: When you start dog and a guy too much, eventually that pendulum does go back the other way.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_04]: And sometimes it does it in very clutch situation.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_04]: So even if he goes out there, and even though I'm going to be chugging that vodka, if I see him up there at the plate,
- 17:55[SPEAKER_04]: Ultimately, we know that that is going to come back the other way at some point, maybe it's not this season, maybe he doesn't do it on Saturday and it ends up being a bad choice and I could definitely see it going that way or we have that bit of magic that just happens that we have seen time and time again on this team and you see it in baseball it's the nature of the game somebody who's down all the sudden does something that was just completely vital to the team coming back.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know, but day and day out, it is tough to watch that right now to take him out of the lineup, get him out.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because I said that Chris is going to be right, he's going to hit a home run to win the game.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's kind of late.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_03]: That's the way it works.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's totally the way it works, but I can't do it anymore.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'm at the point where not the PD helping is incredible offensively by any stretch of the imagination, but you know you're going to get pretty solid defense out of PD helping it allows you to probably
- 18:51[SPEAKER_00]: I kind of understand the argument of like, oh, well, Angie historically is good against the lefties.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: Petey Halpin is a lefty.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we should just let Angie play until they put a righty in.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: But by that same token, arguably the biggest regular season home run this year was Petey Halpin against the white socks against the lefty and the amount.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: I want to say it was Anthony K, but I could be wrong.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I wouldn't be afraid to give Petey Halpin a shot and go back to Bailey.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now that Parker's not pitching, he has to go back to Bailey.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_04]: He also gives you that shot the arm when he gets on the base is, you know, he can move a little bit.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_04]: So that helps and I think it helps with this offense where like I said, you're not consistently going to get the home runs, you're certainly not going to get the Patrick Bailey home runs.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: Chris, as we move into this game five, pitching concerns, have you come much bigger with a guard?
- 19:45[SPEAKER_00]: Not in terms of like, oh, these guys stink.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're not gonna go out there and get it done for us, but pitch count, I should say more so.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're looking at a place now where Cade Williams went out and threw I believe it was 19, two nights ago, where 20 was somewhere in the 19 to 25 range, then last night, he threw 40, Gavin threw 20 on an off day.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, Parker, like, only gave you three, weren't really hoping for that.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think almost nobody thought we would have to use,
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: all three of Parker Gavin and Tanner.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_00]: We probably thought maybe two of the three those would get used.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: So now you're in a spot where it might just be, hey, Gavin, give us as much as you can and then just pray for the best after that.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_00]: What ultimately do you think happens on on Saturday and do you really agree with the decision to use Gavin when he was used on Saturday?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_04]: Well, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
- 20:44[SPEAKER_04]: But I just want to make sure so he runs them out there.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't know.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_04]: I would really, I'd have a hard time if he let it go too far.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_04]: And all of a sudden, you're down 98, 97.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_04]: And you say, why didn't you bring him in there before?
- 20:58[SPEAKER_04]: It's only a couple of, a couple of batters.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_04]: It's only what ended up being 18 pitches.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: No big deal.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_04]: You can use that in his normal
- 21:05[SPEAKER_04]: kind of lead up to a start anyway, so not a big deal, but ultimately then you look at it, we use date pictures yesterday, which you know, that's the way playoff baseball is anymore, but you're basically going, ending to ending with a different picture.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_04]: So what I'm looking for out of this team on Saturday, I'd love to have Gavin Williams go deep.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_04]: and by deep in the playoffs is give you four innings, right?
- 21:27[SPEAKER_04]: Three, three, four innings, not an inning and a half, not two innings as we saw yesterday.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_04]: What Parker Messick went, 2.1, 2 and a third yesterday.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_04]: So I would love to see us go over three innings into four innings.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_04]: That would be great and I think that's such a real well because like I said, we use aid pitchers.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_04]: I think the white socks use seven pitchers yesterday, so both of us are going to be playing a shell game when it comes to our bullpens down the stretch and that means, you know, anything can really happen in this game.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be pretty wild to see both managers go and lock horns and try and figure out, hey, how do we finish this game and what sets us up the best because you've got a lot of tired arms right now.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe this is a silly question.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe not.
- 22:11[SPEAKER_02]: It certainly might be without context, but I'll provide context.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_02]: Do you almost wish that this game was in Chicago?
- 22:16[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, road teams are forced.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_02]: In this series, and then you go back to the regular season, Jack, you're shaking your head, but they played much better baseball on the road.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no, that way.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_04]: How does that happen, guys?
- 22:27[SPEAKER_04]: I do not understand because I actually seen people say that the guardians fans need to kind of tone it down because everybody just gets too over a hype there.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_04]: But then you look at what the white socks had the last couple of days and the Guardian's rose to the occasion when you got everybody yelling at him telling they suck and you know rooting against the Guardian.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_04]: So I don't understand that line of thinking, but it is amazing.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know whether we get
- 22:54[SPEAKER_04]: tight at home.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_04]: I would have to imagine that maybe be in a young team.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe you do put a little bit more pressure on yourself when you're walking up there.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_04]: You got country roads playing and you're all psyched up going up to home plate.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_04]: If you're even if you're a Jose Ramirez, you're here in Jose Jose Jose.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, all the reasons to be pumped up when you get up to the plate.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe you're just a little bit over high.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_04]: Tonight, I don't see that so much for Jose.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_04]: I might some of these younger guys who
- 23:21[SPEAKER_04]: Bug-eyed when they go up there and have those big eyes for the playoffs and the MLB playoffs and really hadn't been here before, but I don't know.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_04]: I don't have a good answer because our fans have done everything that we've been asked.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_04]: We've sold out these games.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_04]: They've been allowed.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_04]: They've been positive.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_04]: They've been behind the team.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_04]: Even on the road, we've supplied that, but for whatever reason, guys, it works on the road.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_04]: It doesn't work at home.
- 23:44[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so Chris, if it was up to you, would you have stopped the flight home last night for the Cleveland Guardians and kept this game in Chicago?
- 23:51[SPEAKER_02]: If you could make this decision, is that what you would do or are you saying nope winner lose?
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: I want this thing at home where it is.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_04]: No, you got to come home because what I want to do ultimately, Michael, and this is the perfect time to do it.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_04]: You've got a night game on a Saturday.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_04]: It is an elimination game and we're playing the white socks.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_04]: Major League 2. Who was the team that we defeated in the big moment?
- 24:15[SPEAKER_04]: It was the white socks.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_04]: Jack, who came out of the pen?
- 24:18[SPEAKER_04]: One Charlie Sheen.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_04]: How fantastic would it be if to start off the game?
- 24:24[SPEAKER_04]: You had Charlie Sheen coming out of the bullpen to throw out the first pitch.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_04]: unbelievable cranky Jerry.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get the crowd into it.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't care what people say about being over a hype.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get everybody good and soft.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get that gravy going because I think we need the energy comes Saturday night.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_04]: It's a different feel for Saturday night game.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_04]: Let's get it going here in Cleveland.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: I'm ready.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_04]: This is going to be fun guys.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_04]: you got Ohio State in the afternoon and then you've got the guardians what a great lead and everybody should be good and feeling well by the time the guardians start and this is going to be a great weekend Chris what if Jim told me throughout the first pitch I know it's a lot of people are talking about or you know everybody in Chicago you know it's big time Chicago could we have an ex president throw out the first pitch
- 25:11[SPEAKER_04]: And I hope they have all these names that they were throwing out there and it ended up with some dude from a prime show coming out to throw out their first pitch.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_04]: How cool would it be we get back to Cleveland?
- 25:21[SPEAKER_04]: We throw out one of the most memorable first pitches ever by running Charlie Sheen wild thing out there on the mound to start off the game on Saturday.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: What about Taylor though, isn't she in the ownership group now?
- 25:32[SPEAKER_04]: Well, there you go.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_04]: I think that'd be a lot to do Kelsey.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_04]: Hell, I don't know bring out Ward.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_04]: All right.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: Would you guys see Taylor Swift or Tanner vibe beyond the mountain at any point during game five?
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Taylor just for the element of surprise.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they can't hit an e-fist.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm being serious.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm are you guys would you how how upset would you guys be if you saw Tanner vibe and game five?
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: Or you guys just think it was more of a product of coming out of the bullpen for the first time?
- 25:59[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, no, no, I don't think he's going to pitch in game five unless we're really, really hurt.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_04]: There's, there's no way you can run, run him out there.
- 26:05[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, we were talking before the series about the strategy and we were already saying, no, Tanner, Bobby, no, Tanner, Bobby, now we ran him out there in a bullpen and it's like, uh, no, I don't think we go back to that.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think you want to put your season on the line and put him out there on the bump.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, Jack, this one is for you, Chris, you can entertain this as well, but I know Jack has a soft spot for Brian Rokio.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_02]: If Rokio hits a walkoff tonight, I'll be out there.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: Of course you will.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_02]: What?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, is there something you would do?
- 26:36[SPEAKER_02]: If he hits a walkoff tomorrow night, excuse me, I keep saying tonight.
- 26:40[SPEAKER_02]: If he hits a walkoff home run tomorrow, two advances to the LCS.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_00]: like do we have to make a bet on it like if we if you think of something I'll do something or we can do like what okay what would be is there any like Venezuelan foods we know of like I'll eat like only every time I'm on the show next week I'll eat like that food okay I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll I'll
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we'll just, yeah, we'll do.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'll eat a bowl from OCV or something every day.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's what we'll have to do.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: When we get back here on the Big Play Cleveland Show, Jensen Lewis is going to be joining us to bring the heat and talk about game five as well as talk about last night's game.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: But welcome back on into the Big Play Cleveland Show.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_00]: I know that Jensen Lewis before bringing the heat was watching that game last night.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_03]: game for the guards and he saw Gavin Williams the ace come out of the pen on a day he's not supposed to and he texted me he's like Jack I got to get in there I got to do the same it's gonna take all of us to go out of win this series Jensen what is going on we got a game five brother we do boy what a difference a week makes right and You know just again for me is as a former closer and and seeing a starter come out that you know It's supposed to be ready on full rest for a potential winner take all game five
- 27:47[SPEAKER_03]: not the way I had it scripted.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_03]: I certainly wouldn't have brought Kate Smith in for six outs and game three.
- 27:53[SPEAKER_03]: If you can't get six outs or at least three to get to the ninth without blowing that lead, then you don't deserve to advance anyway.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_03]: But hey, that's why he gets paid the money that he does to make those decisions.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_03]: All that behind us guys, now it's winter take all Saturday night and boy, and an incredible scene it's going to be a progressive field.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_04]: So just a little bit with Gavin Williams and changing up his preparation now by going out there.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_04]: I had read an article that this isn't necessarily crazy because these guys will throw like assimilated couple of innings or something in the middle of a week when they're scheduled to start.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_04]: So doing this a couple of days before isn't necessarily a big departure from what he'd normally
- 28:41[SPEAKER_03]: You know, the uniqueness of a Chris is that we kind of saw this example with Michael King right coming in and pitching the final two innings for the San Diego Padries in a winner go home game three for them at Peco Park and you know that was also kind of an anomaly but also on that that day that he would have thrown his side session in between starts and my guess is that's exactly where Gavin Williams probably had a conversation with Stephen vote and with Carl Willis and and they probably said hey.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: If, if we need it, would you be able to do it and you think you could turn it back around?
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think Gavin was in there for more than just that inning had, you know, things transpired.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_03]: But bottom line, I personally would not have done it.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: It's the first time I think he's been in relief.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_03]: since he was a college guy at East Carolina in 2021, so not to say that he hasn't had experience doing it.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_03]: It's been a minute and that routine Chris so different when you know that you're coming in not only to a game but a playoff game with the season on the line versus hey, I'm getting my work in on the side, you know, making sure my breaking balls all touched up, making sure my release point feels good, so
- 29:53[SPEAKER_03]: a bottom line.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_03]: He did it.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_03]: He was efficient too.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's the most important part.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_03]: It's just 18 pitches.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: And with the critical day off today, I think that's what matters most.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, Jensen, every pitcher, not named Matt Festa, probably has the tank on E right now for the Guardians to some extent.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: When you look at the hook that Stephen Vot had yesterday, like Parker Messick didn't have it.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: Cool.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'll pull him early.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Tanner Bible, clearly didn't have it.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, right back out after I think it was literally just the three-batter minimum.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_00]: How fast do you expect?
- 30:26[SPEAKER_00]: How short is the leash on Gavin?
- 30:27[SPEAKER_00]: Come Saturday.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's ending by ending, probably, Jack, and to be fair, I know that I personally would have stayed away from Gavin 100% yesterday and just kind of knowing that situation, I personally would have ran fest out there and then saved Kate for the ninth, I think you, you have to understand where you're at here from a starting pitching advantage and I know.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_03]: That you're you're not thinking about game five because you have to get there will the old ad will figure it out when we get there.
- 30:59[SPEAKER_03]: Well, now they got to figure it out.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that you're you're probably looking at at least one time through the order.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_03]: So let's call it three innings.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's the starting point that you want to get Gavin Williams through.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_03]: We know that that Hunter Gattison and Kate Smith have pitched in every single game in this series.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_03]: I think after the third inning, if we get there.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_03]: And then just becomes any binding and really match up appropriate.
- 31:24[SPEAKER_03]: If you're in the middle of that lineup, you know, you're looking at a Timmy Heron, albeit boy, he was kind of losing his mind a little bit in his control Watching that ending unravel a little bit.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_03]: Ericsson Browsky, you know, has kind of been touching go as well.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_03]: So it's not like there's knock down dragout options.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_03]: Besides, we've Kate Smith has put up together, not only through the regular season, but through this series, so both managers are in the same boat, make no mistake about it, I wonder if it's Sean Burke to start and personally if I'm will vennable knowing how dominant Burke has been and not only the regular season, but also the playoffs here against Cleveland.
- 32:04[SPEAKER_03]: getting a scoreless first inning, especially as the road team.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_03]: And even if he has a lead, that is so paramount for momentum, I would want Sean Burke.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_03]: This is me just talking not not any knowledge of what will venable in that group is thinking of, I personally would want Sean Burke to start that game.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_03]: It's normal routine.
- 32:24[SPEAKER_03]: He's done this before.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_03]: I would want as close
- 32:34[SPEAKER_04]: And Jensen, what do you make of that home versus road right now?
- 32:37[SPEAKER_04]: You know, there's that old adage, the playoffs don't really start until the home team gets a victory, right?
- 32:43[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, that's what it is in this series so far.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_04]: It's been crazy.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about it all season.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_04]: We noticed this trend with the Guardian specifically.
- 32:51[SPEAKER_04]: We played a little bit better on the road than what we did at home.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_04]: What is it with the home teams in this series?
- 32:56[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's a great question.
- 32:58[SPEAKER_03]: Good nugget for you though, Chris from my colleague's over at Elwin Outwork Research.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_03]: There have been just two best to five series all time in which the road team won all five games or at least the whole team did not win a game.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_03]: That is the 2010 division series in the American League when the Rangers beat the race.
- 33:17[SPEAKER_03]: And then if you go back to the 2012 National League Division series, the Giants beat the Reds in that scenario.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_03]: Cleveland's looking to become the fourth club to rally from being in an O2 best to five hole after losing those first two games at home.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_03]: If you look at those season, their series history, teams headed into what Cleveland will be entertaining.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_03]: on Saturday night are 3 in 32 in that regard.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_03]: So they would join the 2001 Yankees who rallied to beat the A's, the 2012 Giants would beat the reds as we talked about.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_03]: And then if you remember the 2015 Blue Jays in the Homer hit round the world or at least that shocked a continent, Jose Bob Tista against the Rangers there in 2015.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_03]: So history not only on the line here,
- 34:05[SPEAKER_03]: But some dubious history, too, because nine of the last 11 win or take all games and postseason history, Cleveland has lost.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_03]: So you're looking to buck a lot of historical trends here.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_03]: But I guess that's the beauty of baseball, right?
- 34:17[SPEAKER_03]: Throw everything out that's happened thus far.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's all about Saturday night, and that's all that any of those guys care about.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Jensen let's do a little hypothetical here and pretend that I'm Gavin Williams and your car will us if we could do that here for a minute How do you attack this white socks team the first and second time through the order if you get the chance obviously because you look at like what for the guards Jose gets going it changes everything if you don't have a great job.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think a pitching around Miguel Vargas for the most part in the series Yesterday he gets going late hits the home run in the ninth.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_00]: Are you at all worried about that guy getting going now?
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously more economy went deeper earlier
- 34:49[SPEAKER_03]: I think Vargas is certainly the guy right now.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_03]: He has reached safely in 12 of his 18 plate appearances in the series, and I think that includes eight walks.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_03]: Another walk for him on Saturday will tie Corey Seagur's League Division series record of nine back in 2023 when the Rangers went on to win the world series.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_03]: The whole run you mentioned is the ninth, in the ninth with his first postseason RBI.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_03]: So for what it's worth,
- 35:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, he's been getting on base, but there hasn't been a ton of damage, and I think that's been a feather in the cap for the guardians pitching staff those far.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Murakami being a true three outcome guy, there have been times that he has looked absolutely lost, and then, you know, we've seen the damage that he can do going the other way, the Homer obviously of parcromestic in game one.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_03]: I'll tell you.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_03]: The ability to generate swing and miss is what has been most encouraging for me and regardless of what arm Cleveland has run out there, guys, this is a staggering statistic for me.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_03]: When you look at how many strikeouts have occurred for Chicago hitters?
- 35:56[SPEAKER_03]: They struck out 54 times in this series.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_03]: That's 10 shy of the league division series recorder.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_03]: The league division series record that is shared by the 2017 Yankees and the 2019 Dodgers.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_03]: Like that is surreal to wrap your head around.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_03]: That many punchouts.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_03]: That much free air conditioning.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_03]: But that's kind of what Cleveland has done.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_03]: We've watched it all through the regular season.
- 36:20[SPEAKER_03]: When they've been really dominant,
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: What do they do?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_03]: They get a lot of strikeouts.
- 36:24[SPEAKER_03]: They get 12, 14, 16 of them, not to say that that's the recipe that they have to follow to win on Saturday.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_03]: But guys, we're not reinventing the wheel here.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_03]: The fewer balls put in play, the better chance you have the win.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_03]: So I would run out, you know, Gavin is long as he can possibly go within reason.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_03]: The problem is a Steven vote is going to be very enticed to want to limit any run scoring situation whatsoever.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_03]: So
- 36:51[SPEAKER_03]: Teams that score first, it is what it is.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_03]: Those teams usually go on to win.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_03]: So that first run whenever it comes very paramount to that manager who gets it.
- 37:01[SPEAKER_03]: speaking of strikeouts and troubles at the plate on how martina's what are we going to do with him is he ever going to hit the adventure now what do we do for this pivotal game on Saturday yeah great question Chris and I don't know if there is a clear or easy answer to that obviously you know what he does defensively with his range is is something that they'll have to
- 37:27[SPEAKER_03]: not to say the kid's going to start, but you get a kind of jolt that he does with the Homer, and we know what his range is in center field.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_03]: You get to stick quantity in his natural position there and left especially at home.
- 37:39[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sure those conversations are happening amongst the brain trust.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: And then, you know, hey, it is going to be you know, the right hander, I think Sean Burke, if indeed he starts, I think that's an interesting, you know, counter point or counter move there.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_03]: If it's not new come as the opener, then you know, if it is Burke, then you know that will Venomals going to want to try and get as much length at a Burke, so that might be a move that you see considering what on Hell struggles as you alluded to have transpired in this series.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: Jensen, I absolutely hate to be that guy to bring up a bad day from your playing career, just not me not for you, but just for the team and the organization, game seven of the ALCS in 2007, you had the opportunity to play in an elimination game like what's gonna go down tomorrow.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: Do you remember like, what was going through you had like leading up to that game?
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like, is it true that you can treat it like just any other game or is that not really the case?
- 38:35[SPEAKER_03]: No, you really can't, I'll tell you, Jack, funny story.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_03]: So we're in Fenway, Pack, and they had the dropkick Murphy's doing a concert out there.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think in center field, pregame before we all were walking out to the bullpen.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_03]: I do remember seeing that, I'm like, oh, God, we're really going to have this kind of crap that's happening before the game starts.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_03]: They did everything they could to try and psych us out.
- 38:59[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I'll give Jake Westbrook a lot of credit to he told the line and and really as Eric Wedge would say boat is neck as much as possible to try and give us every opportunity to stay in that game.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_03]: I think middle to late there a couple of home runs that put it out of reach for us.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_03]: I remember coming in unfortunately, I gave up a solo home or to have a uglis and then punched out big poppy to end the bottom of the eighth inning there.
- 39:22[SPEAKER_03]: And I just remember standing, you know, kind of top rail, I mean, the game was was over.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_03]: I think it was like tended to it.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_03]: I knew it was a blowout at that point John and the papal bond comes in to close it out and you know, it's the overwhelming sinking feeling of we were up three games to one.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_03]: We kind of had this series.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_03]: You know, really within our grasp and I had firmly believed it like we're going to be the team that ends the drought and and what a surreal thought that is starting to creep into our minds here.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_03]: You guys remember it was the weird scheduling quirk between game four and game five of the AL championship series there was an off day that that year.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_03]: And I remember going to the field to play catch with Jake, Jake Westbrook, who was going to start game seven if we got there.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_03]: And Jacobie Ellsbury, who I had played baseball with as a team in the Cape Cod League, in summer ball when we were collegians, I remember going to talk to him and left feeling it goes dude, we're done.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_03]: like we're toast, and Jacobi wasn't a guy to like kind of, you know, be Foxy with you and like trying to loll ya.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_03]: He was being brutally honest.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_03]: I was looking at the body language of those guys taking BP and I, I remember walking back in with Jake and thinking myself, we're going to the world series tomorrow.
- 40:34[SPEAKER_03]: Like, it's happening and obviously what happened to, to lose the three in a row will, will never be lost on us.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_03]: But there is something about this day where it, it
- 40:48[SPEAKER_03]: I think the advantage is these guys have done it now for two days in a row.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_03]: Two days where the season has been on the line.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_03]: So this is nothing new.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_03]: Momentum will be with Cleveland.
- 40:58[SPEAKER_03]: It's how you are able to manage the early emotion because everyone is gonna be on edge.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: all of the emotions are going to be pumping and from the pitching side of it, you know, if it is Gavin Williams to throw that first inning, then for me, it's just going back to your fundamentals and being able to try and take as much as your heartbeat and much as your motion out of it, allow your athleticism to take over.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: And if he's right, then I think Cleveland's got a great chance to punch their ticket to the League Championship Series.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: Jensen, great answer right there.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: It was just so cool to kind of look back and even think about team going yet far and Cleveland too From the Chicago perspective I guess because you did have that okay like hey we're up a couple games like Or we're going on this is awesome How important is it for Cleveland to get the first run tomorrow because doesn't it don't when you are you're kind of like Oh, it can't go this way it can't go this way like we we had it in the bag I feel like scoring the run makes the first run makes that much more worse
- 41:54[SPEAKER_03]: Well, it scoring the first run is huge because that's that first punch that you land.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_03]: And now it puts the opposition on the defensive because you don't want to fall behind by multiple runs.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, if you kind of look at where game three transpired, Daniel Spino gets those two outs and then is on the ropes, Foster Griffin comes in, limits the damage to one run.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_03]: That's a massive momentum ship.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you gave up the run.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_03]: But if you give up multiple runs there, that's a different haymaker that lands besides a body blow, okay, we had an old adage.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_03]: You gotta score one to win anyway, right?
- 42:29[SPEAKER_03]: So if you don't score, it doesn't matter.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_03]: I think the uniqueness of the usage for the white socks bullpen is something to highlight here.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_03]: Guys, they have set a record in league division series play now at 30 and a third innings, just in this series.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_03]: They have allowed 18 runs 35 base runners though in 15 and a third over these past two game three in game fours combined so if you're looking at a difference of what game one in game two they were stout difference though they had the off day between game
- 43:03[SPEAKER_03]: one and two and between two and three.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_03]: So that really allowed a difference of how will vennable could really press his leverage relievers.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_03]: We saw Grant Taylor, we do what he did.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_03]: And that's a guy too that now all of a sudden has really had some issues trying to get guys out.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_03]: I think everyone is going to do what they have to do on the off day to get themselves right physically.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_03]: But I don't know which side feels like, oh, yeah, like I'm kind of frightened.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_03]: No one is fresh.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: No one is feeling like, yeah, I'm good for multiple innings.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_03]: You're going to say that because now both teams know if they lose, they go home.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: But I think that's the the uniqueness that I would look at from both sides is I don't think there's a distinct advantage.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_03]: for either teams relief core, I would say the early advantage would be that Gavin Williams should he be the starter has the chance to set the tone.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_03]: You want the crowd into it.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_03]: You would like a clean crisp first inning and then you want your offense to go to work.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: So,
- 44:06[SPEAKER_03]: If it was going to set up this way, I'd rather be the home team.
- 44:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'd rather have a guy who has been an absolute dog on the mound here every time he's taking the mound and progressive field.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_03]: So I mean, it's a heavy weight fight and this is exactly what you play for.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_04]: Jensen, you talked about the importance of kind of body language in the aura.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_04]: I tell you what, Jose Ramirez has gotten that in spades right now.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_04]: We've almost run out of superlatives to describe the guy, but what he's done these last couple of nights here in Chicago have just been off the chart.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_04]: What does that mean?
- 44:39[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, he's got that hand injury that he's dealing with.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_04]: You see the way that he just bust his ass around the bases that he plays out in the field.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_04]: What does that do for a veteran like that?
- 44:53[SPEAKER_04]: What does that do for the ball club and a playoff situation like this?
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: You nailed it.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_03]: It's the reaction from Jose.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_03]: And Chris, you and I have been watching this team long enough, not the day ourselves with Ryan and Jack here, but we've been through it.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_03]: We've seen when stars have gone away in the postseason.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_03]: And Jose would have every excuse.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_03]: because of still rehabbing from the hand injury.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_03]: He would have every excuse.
- 45:17[SPEAKER_03]: You'll never hear it from him.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_03]: You'll never see him take a rep off.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_03]: And you keep working.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_03]: You stick with your process and eventually good things happen.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_03]: And I got to tell you, watching him I've never seen him react.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_03]: The way that he did in all my years of watching him play.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_03]: Even back in the 2016 playoff run, guys, he was pretty stoic for Jose Ramirez.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, that might be the most consequential home run that he hits in his entire career.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_03]: If they go on to win on Saturday night and punch another ticket to the league championship series, I guarantee you, you ask him after it's all said and done.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: That'll be a moment he remembers because of the personal adversity he's had overcome because of all of the struggles trying to
- 46:01[SPEAKER_03]: be able to get himself back to be the guy that has carried this franchise throughout most of his tenure.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_03]: I think it's a watershed moment from a couple of perspectives.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_03]: It's not just the individual who gets the boost, but watch that reaction again from the dugout and then watch them just rally around him, just stand it up and yell and back at the socks out there and give it back to them.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_03]: That's your leader.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_03]: and you go as Jose goes.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_03]: So for him to be four for nine was what couple of three extra base hits I think five ribbies over the last two days.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_03]: That is the watershed moment so far in this series for me.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_04]: over certainly going to get a Jose Ramirez statue at some point right now we've got a gym told me statue that's out front there were a lot of people jensen a lot of fans who were upset to see that same gym told me out there wearing all black before but behind home plate
- 46:57[SPEAKER_04]: two nights ago and where do you come out on that obviously he works for the white socks his son was drafted by the white socks and you being inside baseball you see these guys kind of change around and move around that's the nature of the game can you understand why some of the fans were kind of hurt to see that guy legend here who we built a statue for rooting for the socks and right there in the middle of the stadium.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_03]: I can understand both sides.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_03]: Listen, jib told me, oh, Marvis Keller, my two heroes grown up as a kid.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_03]: I modeled my swing in high school after him.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_03]: I got to pitch against him in my major league debut, in my early couple of years in his career.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_03]: He's a Hall of Famer in every sense, not only in Cooperstown, but as a person and a player.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_03]: And he'd be the first one to tell you that his heart and his career and everything that made him who he is resides still in Cleveland.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_03]: And that doesn't change.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_03]: uh... happened to to to go through and and change uniforms and through Philadelphia and then with the white socks and then you know the historic six hundred home runs uh... and and having that moment in a white socks uniform uh... there are plenty of legends uh... and i would say do we say the same about the brown james yeah and we saw them in a different uniform uh... i'll make it personal on this side he wore a Yankees hat uh... into the stands uh... when he was a member of the cavaliers that never sat well with us
- 48:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so, you know, you can look at Cleveland Grates that have gone on and played for other teams.
- 48:22[SPEAKER_03]: I know his kid was drafted there by Chicago, and so you can understand, I'm sure Chris is as a dad.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_03]: You know, there's that juxtaposition of, hey, born and raised is a Cleveland guy.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, hey, if your kid goes and plays against it in our tribal or division rival, you know, they're shared allegiance there.
- 48:41[SPEAKER_03]: A house divided, we say it every year between Ohio State and that team up north, you marry into it.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_03]: You know, you have things that transpire that way.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_03]: So I totally get the fan perspective, but no one Jimmy, no one where his heart really is.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_03]: I think in his heart of hearts, Cleveland will always be home.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jensen, last question for you, thanks so much for popping on as always.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully the guardows can get a done tomorrow, but you know the last question can ever be about the sport of baseball, Jensen.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_00]: If you were in the WWE, what would your finishing move be?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_03]: Man, I'm from Jack.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, I thought about it for a while.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_03]: So I don't, I think it would have to be something off the top robe.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I think you would have to be dubbed the Dark Knight.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_03]: And that was my intro music when I was closing in 2008.
- 49:28[SPEAKER_03]: And that's kind of when I felt as my most powerful.
- 49:32[SPEAKER_03]: So if that's the synergy that we can draw in there,
- 49:36[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what my costume would be.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_03]: I don't know what the exact nature sequence of the move would be.
- 49:42[SPEAKER_03]: But I think it would have to be the dark night.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_03]: He lands the dark night and that's it.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: Turn out the lights.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_03]: Absolutely.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_04]: One more question.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_04]: So the guards went on Saturday.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_04]: Of course the Browns went on Sunday.
- 49:53[SPEAKER_04]: We have a great weekend.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_04]: Right, Jensen, do I have that right?
- 49:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, I got to figure out what the Cleveland parlay is.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_03]: I know the guards are short favorite right now.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously Brown's catching points on the road there against the jets.
- 50:04[SPEAKER_03]: We got to see what a little two-legged parlay pays out there.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, all things.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, we can put the money line for Ohio State in there.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_03]: But it's not going to really add too much to it.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_03]: But yeah, I'm going to match up with Maryland.
- 50:16[SPEAKER_03]: You know, Ohio sweep would be excellent here this weekend.
- 50:19[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely, Jensen.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for joining us as always.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_00]: You bet.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks, boys.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go anywhere.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: We'll be right back talking about some brownies.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: We got to get to the three and one browns.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_00]: We almost forgot about him before St. Miko comes in at one tend to give his calves season preview.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: But first we got to tell you guys about pizza to one six westsideers get ready.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: Pizza to one six has a new location opening in Avon.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: And for guards game five had downtown to 401 Euclidav, they've got plenty of CVs, a great bar seen at over 20 draft beers.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: I was down there with downtown Bailey Brown before the game two kicked off for the guards great atmosphere.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_00]: Over 20 draft beers, plus a menu that goes way beyond pizza.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: Bring your crew, grab some food, and cheer on the guards together.
- 51:01[SPEAKER_00]: Pizza do what?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: 216.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_00]: Your downtown game day spot with a new location opening an avon.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: Check them out at pizza-216.com.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: with how awesome the guardians have been you would have almost forgot that somehow the Cleveland Browns are three and one at top of the AFC North Chris I want to start a few that I'm going to ask Ryan this question.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_00]: Is it time where we can just fully enjoy this and be like hey the Browns are back this is fun we're all good or you still kind of waiting for something to go wrong.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_04]: you're always waiting for something to go wrong.
- 51:30[SPEAKER_04]: But in this case, you're already kind of playing with some house money here, right?
- 51:34[SPEAKER_04]: What did we expect from the Cleveland Browns this year?
- 51:36[SPEAKER_04]: Just to kind of have the tank all year long, probably look for a quarterback in the draft, we'll see maybe win a few games along the way.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_04]: But right now we're plunked into the middle of a playoff race for games in, which is fantastic.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_04]: So I think for me, the fun of this season is going to be watching those young guys develop.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_04]: And if we can get some wins on top of that, that is a complete bonus for me.
- 51:58[SPEAKER_04]: So I feel really good about the Brown, even if we go out and lay an egg on Sunday.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_04]: I'm still okay because I think we'll still see the progression.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_04]: We've seen it so far this season.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_04]: We've seen those young guys really make some nice contributions.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_04]: And I look for that to continue in the future.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm high on the Browns right now.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: Ryan, how you feeling?
- 52:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'll tell you what, man.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think you can feel anything other than pure joy at this point because for the majority of the off season, we kind of just talked about, well, winning's a cherry on top and I thought that the trading miles gear it, open the door for this team to wear.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_02]: You can have Todd Monk and come in, focus on winning.
- 52:36[SPEAKER_02]: That's his sole job, teaches young players how to win, and guess what, you still have the draft capital where you don't need to finish in the bottom five to go get one of these quarterbacks, and that's the beauty of that class, if it's actually projected to be the way it is.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see if the car starts to turn on, I see you do in that for CJ Car from Notre Dame who we love, but just everything winning is just pure joy.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_02]: Because at the end of the day, is Dishon Watson going to lead the Brown suit,
- 53:02[SPEAKER_02]: But I'll tell you what, and I'll even give the Sean credit.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_02]: I bet you this team next year is better because the Sean is winning them games.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_02]: I'll say, I'll say like that.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Ryan, I'm at the point where I'm just having fun with this because it's almost like I wouldn't expect it to keep going, so it's like, why would I sit here and be like, oh, when's it going to stop?
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: The Browns are good for a little bit here.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: Might just let God enjoy as much of it as you can.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_00]: Good little question for you guys here.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_00]: What has changed the most for you so far?
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: One, your opinion of the Sean Watson, two, your opinion of Todd Monkin, or three, just your mood on game days.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_04]: two, my opinion, a Todd Monkin coming in and this is going all the way back to when we first hired Todd Monkin.
- 53:44[SPEAKER_04]: I thought, okay, we're giving this old bell cow one last shot.
- 53:49[SPEAKER_04]: He's going to get his shot to be the guy for a couple of years.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_04]: Then he's ultimately going to be the scapegoat for this organization and we'll kind of usher him out.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_04]: But the way he's come on the scene now, he's connected with the fans.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_04]: He's brought a passion.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_04]: We talked about Jose Ramirez and what
- 54:08[SPEAKER_04]: excited.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_04]: I'd tell you what, Todd Monkin, that old man, he could get people fired up both fans and in that locker room.
- 54:14[SPEAKER_04]: He's connected with everybody.
- 54:16[SPEAKER_04]: So I think he's a much longer term solution for the Cleveland Browns than I had ever expected.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think I got to go to Sean Watson Chris, I completely agree, you know, I talked about it with Matt Todd Munkin was one of those guys where he had to win the fan base over and the only way to do that was literally win games.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_02]: But I think I'm going to go to Sean Watson and I'm not saying that to Sean Watson again is our answer.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if an extension is coming.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_02]: Would I be open to a one year while a rookie sits, I could probably be talked into that.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_02]: But that's the conversation for another day, but
- 54:48[SPEAKER_02]: What Todd Munkin has been able to pull out of the Sean Watson and honestly Chris I may be I'm talking myself back into Todd Munkin being the answer because I think Todd Munkin's belief And to Sean Watson at a big part of him being able to break out of this this mental block that clearly was going on in his head and
- 55:04[SPEAKER_02]: He says he says clear as he's ever been and as healthy as he's ever been to the report so we read all offseason and while I wanted to just kind of throw that to the side and expect another down year and just wait for next year.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_02]: He's he's made me rethink that to the point where I'm even considering signing him to maybe one year extension and sitting a rookie quarterback that we draft in the first round next year.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's my mood on game days.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: I've learned I can't get attached to quarterbacks coaches or anything of the liking Cleveland Ohio because even if there's good moments, they all seem to run out eventually as dark and desolate as that sounds.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's the mood on game day dude like they got skunked week one down in Jacksonville.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_00]: After the first half when they weren't really moving the ball against Tampa, you didn't feel a whole lot better, even though the defense was doing better.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I'm looking forward to Sunday.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, obviously we're for the Steelers game, probably the home opener too, but just then winning makes things so much more fun.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_00]: But let's keep talking about how much winning really changes.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_00]: Do you guys believe that the Sean Watson has one back, the fan base, and if so, how much of it?
- 56:00[SPEAKER_04]: No, he hasn't won back the fan base overall.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_04]: He's won back the 50, 50, you know, those people who are kind of in the middle and just say, hey, listen, I just want to see a quarterback that looks competent out there.
- 56:11[SPEAKER_04]: He's been able to get those people.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_04]: There's no doubt about it, and he's definitely brought some people over to his site, but there is a staunch.
- 56:18[SPEAKER_04]: part of this fan base that says, you know what?
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: No.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_04]: I did just that guy all his past and everything that's not who I am.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not going to be able to support that guy.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_04]: So, and I completely understand that too.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_04]: For me, it's like, hey, I know what he is at this point.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_04]: Everybody kind of knows what he is at this point.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_04]: And if he can go out there and play some middleing, you know, quarterback
- 56:40[SPEAKER_04]: work for us and be a decent quarterback to, you know, see quarterback for us.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_04]: Well, we try and figure out our footing, you know, that to me at this point is a win, which is kind of sad to say for 230 million dollar quarterback.
- 56:52[SPEAKER_04]: And right now, he's playing above that level.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_04]: So, and there's no doubt in my mind, but I still see those seem underpinnings from him.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_04]: I think eventually, you're going to sink him.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_04]: But hey, right now, he's playing fine.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_04]: Keep it up.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's an interesting case study, psychology wise because it's obvious sports aren't the most morally correct place, but it wasn't a shocker to me and I don't think it should have been a shock to anybody else that the second he started playing well, you were starting to see that scale tip back in the favor of Deshawn Watson, all the stuff off the field of sight.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I'm not saying that's right, but that's probably the reality in really any major sport, right?
- 57:27[SPEAKER_02]: Like the better you are as a player and really in life, like the more richer you are
- 57:34[SPEAKER_02]: Sean Watson was still playing bad.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_02]: He'd get booed regardless, but like when back the fan base is maybe too strong But if he continues to play this way the Browns do manage to get a playoff spot and exceed all expectations beyond imaginable Your damn right he's gonna win back that fan base.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_02]: I just winning cures all at the end of the day, and it's just nothing is more important than that
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: I still think he's only one back about five percent of the fan base because I think of a fan base and Dave will hear here back because you get this number from I don't know where my headset here let me show my headset here not that you cannot boo people you are a fan of but I think in general you're gonna avoid getting booed to a pretty large extent if you're a fan favorite or someone that fans love for example
- 58:18[SPEAKER_00]: Jose Ramirez, where there are people saying, yeah, Jose stop playing your hurt, where there is a down year is this prime coming to an end.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: No one's like, oh, I hate Jose Ramirez now because he's having a bad year.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: Jose Ramirez is loved unconditionally, right?
- 58:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like the way you love your family and your friends.
- 58:32[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an unconditional love with Cleveland.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think the love with the Sean Watson, whatever he's gotten so far this season, is very conditional for most people.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's a lot of people who are rooting for him just because he's doing well enough for the Brown Swin football games and I think that those people would go away and say what they were saying before the season started.
- 58:49[SPEAKER_00]: pretty much as soon as if he does go back to playing bad football.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_00]: That would be the case.
- 58:54[SPEAKER_00]: So because of that, I don't know if he's actually one back the fan base.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: Do I think he's garnered a lot more support than he had coming into the season?
- 59:02[SPEAKER_00]: 100%.
- 59:03[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know if that if that translates support and fans necessarily.
- 59:06[SPEAKER_04]: Well, okay, and this goes back to the question.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_04]: He hasn't necessarily won over the fan base.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_04]: He's rented more of the fan base, right?
- 59:13[SPEAKER_04]: And as long as he continues to play well, he'll have that rental unit.
- 59:16[SPEAKER_04]: It'll stay that way as long as he continues to play well.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_04]: As soon as that starts to go south, and certainly if it goes as far south as we've seen it in Cleveland before, then all of a sudden that lease is broken and we're back to Boose.
- 59:28[SPEAKER_02]: Would you guys consider because before me preface this this question about to ask I would call you insane had you asked this before the season started or even after week one I would call you insane but would you consider if it comes to it a one year deal for the Sean Watson next year I don't know throughout a number 20 million I think that's what Rogers was playing on maybe more 25
- 59:48[SPEAKER_02]: And then you draft your rookie and sit him, has it because the Sean Watson's play has warranted that, but I'm not saying that's the right decision because there are a lot of people that you want to wipe their hands clean, and maybe that is the best thing for Watson and this franchise.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_02]: Your guys just thought, would you be open to that?
- 1:00:01[SPEAKER_04]: Chris, I think it's the first you got us too much, too much.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_04]: There's too much baggage, there's too much everything, barring some magical run here where you say, boy, we'd be dumb not to bring them back.
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_04]: I think you've really got to cut ties at the end of the season, and that's got to be
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_04]: the plan for Deshawn for us, like everybody kind of knows what's going on.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_04]: We're going to move on.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_04]: Now, that next quarterback, we're going to be looking to probably either develop somebody in turnling, which we don't have right now.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think you're going to run out Dylan Gabriel out there.
- 1:00:31[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think Schitter's going to be ready to go.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_04]: I don't think Taylor and Greens going to be up there on the radar anytime soon.
- 1:00:38[SPEAKER_04]: So you're probably going to have to bring in a veteran if you do that, but I think that would probably be even better
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough because if you go to the playoffs and if you win 12 games or something, I'll click an idiot if I sit up here and say, oh, they're not going to extend the guy.
- 1:00:51[SPEAKER_00]: But in that exact hypothetical and again, there's so many more weeks off to play in the season, I don't know if they bring him back because I wonder, I'm not saying they wouldn't even want to bring him back.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think after what's happened the last five or six years and how poor the Sean has played up until this season since leaving Houston, I think he'd be an idiot to take a one-year deal.
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: If there's even one singular two-year deal out there on the table.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if he would take, I think personally.
- 1:01:19[SPEAKER_00]: They're probably much more likely to end up right around 500.
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the last team in the playoffs first team out of the playoffs.
- 1:01:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they'd probably draft a quarter back in the first round and bring in not saying he's like going to take you to the playoffs.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_00]: But like a Mac Jones type guy to play a couple weeks.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_04]: That's just that go again.
- 1:01:35[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Flacco again.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_02]: I thought there's a couple layers to that because the first layer is, yes, will there be a team that is willing to commit more than a year to disshot?
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_02]: Because if that's the case, more guaranteed money, yeah, he's probably going to go there.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_02]: But I'm not sure that's going to be the case.
- 1:01:49[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say that he continues to play at this level and you're going to tell me that
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_02]: Hey Todd, you just shocked the world.
- 1:01:59[SPEAKER_02]: Let's say in that scenario, you're getting the playoffs, bare minimum, 10 games you win.
- 1:02:03[SPEAKER_02]: And we're gonna not give you your quarterback back because we're going to either play a rookie right away or we're gonna go sign some other savvy vet and you gotta make it work with him again.
- 1:02:13[SPEAKER_02]: That's not good business, but I understand there's more layers to just the football field because of the history with the Sean, but I'm just saying I think if the Sean continues to play like this, that is going to be the best option for the Browns Bringing them back on a one-year deal.
- 1:02:28[SPEAKER_02]: You sit your rookie again.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_02]: I just I don't know that it's the best business move To go to Todd Monk and then be like dude nice job.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_02]: You just exceed all our expectations.
- 1:02:36[SPEAKER_02]: You made him look good, but
- 1:02:38[SPEAKER_04]: he's going to go somewhere else now again couldn't find you may hit on it right there I may all come down to Todd mongon at the end of the day right if he goes out and he has good season is able to get us right on that precipice of playoff see they're in or out right up there up until the end and you say this guy is going to be our coach
- 1:02:55[SPEAKER_04]: You know, he's going to be our coach, hopefully for several years then.
- 1:02:58[SPEAKER_04]: And so you got to talk to him at that point and say, Hey, are we going to run out the clock with Tishon Watson or are we going to find what the next chapter is for you?
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_04]: What do you want to do?
- 1:03:07[SPEAKER_04]: I'll bet Todd Monk and ends up having a lot to say about that, especially since he's going to be the guy, the only guy who really could get Tishon Watson to do anything.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_04]: And if he says, you know, I was able to get him to do something there.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_04]: I was able to turn him around, but you go out and get me somebody.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_04]: I can build him.
- 1:03:23[SPEAKER_04]: And I can do it again, and I can do it better, and I can do it for a longer period of time.
- 1:03:27[SPEAKER_04]: We really need to bring in the next franchise quarterback, and that'll be on Todd Mocking, and I'll bet he has a whole lot to say about that.
- 1:03:33[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, again, and if you can do the playoffs as you should, more power to him, and again, people might say, well, just Sean wouldn't even want to come back here, which may be true, but I'm just saying, man, second he started fans, hearing fans chant his name, like, wins, continue to build that builds.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think he'd come back.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_04]: I think it's better for both parties.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_04]: I really do because I don't think just don't necessarily, because he'll have bad games.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_04]: He'll get booed and then he'll grow back into his bad mental state and everything else.
- 1:04:00[SPEAKER_04]: If he could start off quote unquote fresh at a different city, get a different deal, get a different feel.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_04]: We can move on from what scene as this albatross on our back for the last several years, even with a little bit of sustain.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_04]: forward moment.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_04]: I'm here this season.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_04]: I still think that on both parties that would probably be the best way to part.
- 1:04:21[SPEAKER_02]: It very well could.
- 1:04:22[SPEAKER_02]: All I'm saying is very quickly.
- 1:04:24[SPEAKER_02]: It went from something that was not even a question unfathomable to trending in.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_02]: Well, oh my gosh, this might actually be a possibility.
- 1:04:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's all right.
- 1:04:33[SPEAKER_00]: The Cleveland Browns band, you just never know what's going to happen.
- 1:04:35[SPEAKER_00]: One team who's pretty consistent though is the Cleveland Cavaliers stick around because when we get back, whoops wire inside or Sanamico joining to talk Cavs preseason.
- 1:04:43[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome back live to the Big Play Cleveland Show.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_00]: It's time to let them know with the man himself whoops wire inside or Sam Amico.
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_00]: Sam, believe it or not, truth be told, until Ryan told me I did not even know there was a Cavs preseason game yesterday, but it appears the fellas.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_00]: didn't do too hot either, but that's okay because it's free season and nobody really cares about that yet because it doesn't matter until you get to game one Sam.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_00]: But Sam, one of the biggest things I saw last night, Kenny Aconson talking about how he wants the Cavs to have a 10-man rotation next year, instead of an 11-man rotation, who are your early favorites to be those 10 guys?
- 1:05:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, first of all, Jack, it seems like a lot of people didn't know based on attendance that there was a preseason game last night.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_01]: How many people have influenced the media?
- 1:05:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so I was, uh, I felt like kind of a lone Ranger in there, kind of liked it.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but.
- 1:05:33[SPEAKER_01]: The 10 guys, listen, that's going to be, we obviously, you would think, you know, the five starters in hardened Mitchell, mobly, Peyton Watts, and then Jared Allen, there's your five.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think the next five is really going to be determined in camp.
- 1:05:47[SPEAKER_01]: We saw Malik Thomas become the first, you know, the second round pick, the rookie, become kind of the first guy in that young group to come off the bench last night.
- 1:05:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was like the eighth man.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 1:06:01[SPEAKER_01]: Can he act as a by the way, should not to read too much into that.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to mix it up on who's the eighth man during the preseason, but you know, you got a factor in Sam Merrill and Jalen Tyson.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_01]: There's right now where it's seven.
- 1:06:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_01]: So you can't play Evan Mobley and Jared Allen all game.
- 1:06:19[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to have to have a back a big guy.
- 1:06:22[SPEAKER_01]: That guy was Dean Wade.
- 1:06:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a real camp battle.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think Thomas
- 1:06:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but there are some other guys who could factor into that equation as well, Peyton Watson probably plays some power forward, but again, you can't play these guys 40 minutes, you know, especially during the regular season.
- 1:06:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, I think that the spots after eight.
- 1:06:49[SPEAKER_01]: are really wide open.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: There's that it's not been determined.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_01]: I couldn't determine it either just based on the rotation.
- 1:06:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's plenty of guys in the mixed high-rease proctor.
- 1:06:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think Craig Porter Jr's going to be your first guard off the bench if you're talking about a ballhandling guard.
- 1:07:06[SPEAKER_01]: Malik Thomas could be the other one.
- 1:07:08[SPEAKER_01]: He showed some really nice things last night.
- 1:07:13[SPEAKER_01]: And that's kind of where I'm at.
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there's somebody in there where I'm forgetting.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_01]: But to me that you have your first date guys determined, nine, ten, and well, if Kenny Akins has stopped at ten, I think nine and ten are still wide open.
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_04]: same as a fan I always struggle with these pre-season games of what to take away from these games you just mentioned some of the position battles and I understand that but you know sometimes even during the regular season you watch these early regular season games you say what do I really take from this is this stuff going to matter when we start talking about the playoffs which really does matter in Cleveland right now
- 1:07:53[SPEAKER_04]: So, what do you look for when you're watching these preseason games?
- 1:07:56[SPEAKER_04]: Is it just the position battles or is there anything more from a strategy standpoint from, hey, these are the types of things that they're trying to really develop so that they're ready for the playoffs eventually or is it really just, like I said, just the, uh, who's going to be on the court executing it all?
- 1:08:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think first of all, that's part of it who's going to be on the court executing it all, but there's also the culture standpoint, how do these guys feel about each other?
- 1:08:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now that they're right now, they're spending so much time together and in order and in amount of time, with these caps, I can tell you it's always been strong.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_01]: That's been a plus.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_01]: Kobe Altman, Kenny Ackinson, those guys, and your leader, Donovan Mitchell is the best leader I've ever been around in 20 years covering the NBA.
- 1:08:42[SPEAKER_01]: He really is.
- 1:08:44[SPEAKER_01]: He always falls on the sword.
- 1:08:46[SPEAKER_01]: He always takes the blame.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: He always praises his teammates.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_01]: So, I think the culture is strong, that's kind of the first thing you look for, you know, you don't want a situation like right now and we keep hearing about the mix and how, you know, they're kind of, they're not getting contract extensions, the teams announcing that they're not getting contract extensions.
- 1:09:05[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, so there to me, that preseason is like, oh, you know, the caps don't have any, oh, it's right now, which is good.
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to go into the season
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing I look for too is the things that bothered, I guess, things that I observed that I thought those need clean up, are they still there?
- 1:09:29[SPEAKER_01]: And some of the things with the caps, the answers, yes, you know, haven't probably still bottles of ball too much.
- 1:09:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is just based on what I saw last night.
- 1:09:39[SPEAKER_01]: They don't, they don't do a good job rebounding.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_01]: Boss said, 21 offense of rebounds, guys.
- 1:09:44[SPEAKER_01]: Do you remember last year?
- 1:09:47[SPEAKER_01]: All season, all playoffs.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_01]: What's their killies heal?
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_01]: They give up too many offensive rebounds.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to fix that.
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's,
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_01]: Part of partially, at least, on Kenny Actinson, like you've got to make this a priority, this camp, because it wasn't like, you know, listen, after the first quarter of a preseason game number one, you can throw everything out the window, it doesn't matter.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_01]: Because the starters are usually your out of the game.
- 1:10:13[SPEAKER_01]: But the first quarter, I saw some of the things that I thought, well, Mobileys still bottling the ball when he catches it.
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_01]: He did it four times.
- 1:10:23[SPEAKER_01]: more importantly than that.
- 1:10:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're giving up all kinds of offensive rebounds to a team that just chucks up threes.
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's what Boston does.
- 1:10:31[SPEAKER_01]: They chuck up threes, which create long rebounds and the calves guards did not get back and get those rebounds.
- 1:10:38[SPEAKER_01]: So, um, they've got to clean that up.
- 1:10:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know whether it's it's stick to I, and few times I watched and I saw people, you know, I'm not gonna call them out by name, but I saw people not boxing out.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_01]: They were just
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Is that a major, major thing, no?
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_01]: But what I see the things that they needed to clean up at the end of last year, I saw them again last night, I also saw a lot of good things that they can do.
- 1:11:03[SPEAKER_01]: Pete Watson unbelievably athletic, which is what, you know, that's kind of your first taste of him or first view of him.
- 1:11:10[SPEAKER_01]: So there's some positives to come out of that, but what I thought was the negatives,
- 1:11:16[SPEAKER_01]: which I think is fans immediately.
- 1:11:18[SPEAKER_01]: We kind of always harp on, but I did see some of those things and I didn't like them.
- 1:11:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I can't be active since then after the game.
- 1:11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Rebounding is a problem for us going into the season and we need to fix it.
- 1:11:31[SPEAKER_04]: Do you think this organization Sam is looking at this season like it is championship or bust?
- 1:11:36[SPEAKER_04]: Is it that time?
- 1:11:37[SPEAKER_04]: And they watched what New York did last year and say, hey, that could have been us.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_04]: And we've had this core now together for a while.
- 1:11:44[SPEAKER_04]: And obviously Dan Gilbert, the ownership's been willing to spend.
- 1:11:47[SPEAKER_04]: They've put it all out there.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_04]: Are they looking at, hey, we got to get it done this season.
- 1:11:53[SPEAKER_01]: I think so, especially with the way the window has been wide open in the NBA over the past eight years.
- 1:11:59[SPEAKER_01]: We've had eight different champions, you almost have had eight different teams in the finals from each conference.
- 1:12:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think that
- 1:12:10[SPEAKER_01]: This they're looking at it like that you don't go out and get James Harden at 37 years old if you're thinking three or four years down the road, you're thinking right now now is a time to strike and you know I would encourage calf fans to believe in that as crazy as it sounds because you have you've had the thunder you have the pacers making that run obviously when the championship you have the nicks a year after listen last year New York next
- 1:12:38[SPEAKER_01]: well here we go again they're not going to do it you know they're always fall short and the people were saying that about the thunder the year before they always get the best record in the western conference and they never come through people said it about the nuggets you know so
- 1:12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, we could be very negative, but I also think that yes, as the organization views this as we've got as good of a shot as anybody with good health and you know, you're going to need there's some there's some ifs and the organization knows there's some ifs.
- 1:13:10[SPEAKER_01]: How's Jalen Tyson going to develop?
- 1:13:12[SPEAKER_01]: How's he going to be as a third year pro?
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_01]: How much is he going to contribute?
- 1:13:16[SPEAKER_01]: Is he going to be, you know, hold his own defensively?
- 1:13:19[SPEAKER_01]: How Sam Merrill going to shoot the playoffs?
- 1:13:21[SPEAKER_01]: If he shoots, if all these things are eight pluses, yeah, they got a great shot.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_01]: How's he going to be the dominant force we need, Jared Allen going to be consistent off in the postseason.
- 1:13:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I do like how they've kept their guys together for the most part because they do like each other and Mitchell and Mobile in Allen set the tone culture-wise and they're three really good guys to have the setting the tone.
- 1:13:54[SPEAKER_00]: Sam which players individual development you talked about jail and Tyson for a little bit there's some curious if it's him do you think can change the dynamic of this team the most?
- 1:14:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I think jail and Tyson's way up there you know he's a guy who brings that edge we always I think we complain over the years that the caps haven't had enough edge or enough moxie but he's one guy you don't need to worry about bringing that jail and Tyson will bring it
- 1:14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and I know his teammates appreciate that, you know, what can he Acquince would like to see is him not be so much on a kind of an emotional roller coaster.
- 1:14:32[SPEAKER_01]: A little bit, you know, he kind of can get very high and pumped up when things are going well and it seems like probably a little too low when they're not.
- 1:14:41[SPEAKER_01]: And that's just part of growing up and, and, you know, being.
- 1:14:46[SPEAKER_01]: as we all are in our early 20s just trying to find some consistency and going with the flow a little bit.
- 1:14:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I really like Tyson.
- 1:14:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he's a guy who brings that edge and the calves really love him for that.
- 1:15:02[SPEAKER_01]: they just need a little more consistency in every area, particularly defensively from him.
- 1:15:08[SPEAKER_01]: But he'd be the guy, Jack, that'd be the guy at circle.
- 1:15:11[SPEAKER_01]: So you didn't even watch the preseason game and you know who to talk about.
- 1:15:14[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, because I got hook Slayer, baby.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_04]: Hey, hey, Sam.
- 1:15:19[SPEAKER_04]: It sounds like, and don't let me put words in your mouth, but it sounds like you really enjoy this particular team.
- 1:15:24[SPEAKER_04]: And just the culture around it seems like they have fun.
- 1:15:27[SPEAKER_04]: It seems like a team that works out together really well.
- 1:15:31[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, we've obviously had some problems in the playoffs and everything else, but it sounds like from a culture standpoint, you really enjoy this team.
- 1:15:38[SPEAKER_04]: You've covered the cabs for a while.
- 1:15:39[SPEAKER_04]: Where would you put this team in terms of culture versus some of the other teams that you've covered?
- 1:15:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I put him in terms of culture and yeah, this is your number 20 for me.
- 1:15:50[SPEAKER_04]: So I wasn't trying to call you out or call me.
- 1:15:52[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say maybe it wasn't my retirement tour or something, but I would say that honestly, it sounds silly, but this is really my favorite.
- 1:16:02[SPEAKER_01]: This has been my favorite group to cover.
- 1:16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I loved cover in the shape of two piers.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_01]: I loved it.
- 1:16:08[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are just on another level.
- 1:16:12[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe because I am older and when I do see them and talk to them, they kind of treat me like I'm their favorite on a call as opposed to when I was younger and they kind of treated me like a big pain in the butt.
- 1:16:24[SPEAKER_01]: Not always, but, you know, listen, I love, I love covering the cheap chip team and love those guys too.
- 1:16:30[SPEAKER_01]: And, and dealing with them, they were, they were great to deal with, but these guys are just on another level.
- 1:16:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that comes down to Donovan and his, his leadership style, the way he deals with the media.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but forget, forget me in the media for a second just the way that he builds it like I said he always falls on the sword he builds up his teammates.
- 1:16:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's not to say everything's perfect all the time because it's not going to be over the course of an 82 game season, but There's no, you know, that there's as far as I could tell there's not drama with this team and
- 1:17:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's just being around and being around them.
- 1:17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Put it this way, other times I would go in the locker room because it was my job and this is what I'm supposed to do.
- 1:17:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I still feel that way, but now it comes kind of with a,
- 1:17:24[SPEAKER_01]: this it's great being in here it's just fun you know these guys are fun and they you could tell that they enjoy each other's company and enjoy playing together and I think that counts for a lot and it was like that with JB Bicker staff too so really to me don't have in Mitchell kind of sets that tone and I think that's
- 1:17:46[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I've enjoyed covering them so much.
- 1:17:48[SPEAKER_01]: I remember real quick, Kevin Love, years ago, the 2015 or so told me once, LeBronz, either mad at me.
- 1:17:58[SPEAKER_01]: or he's mad at Kyrie and it kind of alternates weeks and while he was telling me this in the locker room after a game I looked over and Kyrie was you know saw them and getting dressed looked all mad and you know Kevin was like and this week's Kyrie's week I'm I'm a good guy and funny thing about that is the next week I walked in the locker room and Kevin loved
- 1:18:22[SPEAKER_01]: had was his head was down.
- 1:18:24[SPEAKER_01]: He was all disappointed.
- 1:18:25[SPEAKER_01]: And Kyrie's over there goofing around.
- 1:18:27[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, well, this must be Kyrie's week to be.
- 1:18:30[SPEAKER_01]: So they don't have that dynamic now with the calves.
- 1:18:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying both work, but I'm just saying I just, yeah, stay into your question along when the way I enjoy covering these guys more.
- 1:18:40[SPEAKER_00]: Sam, I got a two-partner here.
- 1:18:42[SPEAKER_00]: So this will be the last of the Jack over our questions for you.
- 1:18:45[SPEAKER_00]: Thank God, so you can continue with your day, Sam.
- 1:18:49[SPEAKER_00]: First one, give me one player.
- 1:18:50[SPEAKER_00]: So a little bit different on the question earlier about who's development can change the most.
- 1:18:53[SPEAKER_00]: Who's one player that fans are just simply overlooking?
- 1:18:56[SPEAKER_00]: That'll make an impact for the catches here and second.
- 1:18:58[SPEAKER_00]: We got a comment here in the chat, Sam.
- 1:19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you by chance remember Walter Wesley?
- 1:19:05[SPEAKER_01]: Walter Wesley.
- 1:19:06[SPEAKER_01]: No, that was a little before my time.
- 1:19:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was with the expansion Eric has, maybe.
- 1:19:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Sam.
- 1:19:14[SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't my question.
- 1:19:15[SPEAKER_00]: Don't shoot the mess there.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:19:17[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not saying I was calling him out for being old.
- 1:19:19[SPEAKER_04]: Now, look at that.
- 1:19:20[SPEAKER_01]: You might have to look that up Chris.
- 1:19:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 1:19:23[SPEAKER_01]: I could be wrong.
- 1:19:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
- 1:19:25[SPEAKER_01]: Are we talking about world
- 1:19:34[SPEAKER_04]: Why, I think he knows the Cavs person is it is is Walter Wesley a guy that's There's a Walter Wesley who played from 65 to 66 for the University of Kansas and did he play for the Cavs?
- 1:19:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't I'm trying to play for the lakers in the box.
- 1:19:52[SPEAKER_00]: Who the heck is this guy?
- 1:19:53[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going on with Wikipedia.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_00]: Someone else.
- 1:19:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, sorry, I don't I don't recall that I do know the name
- 1:19:58[SPEAKER_04]: after that name all he did he played professionally with Cincinnati Chicago Cleveland Phoenix Washington Wall.
- 1:20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, to Wesley was I think he was on the Cavs expansion team in the 1970 would it would be a Cleveland Cavaliers single game scoring record for points in one game with 50
- 1:20:16[SPEAKER_01]: That was before Donovan control.
- 1:20:18[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I'm looking into the old.
- 1:20:20[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, this is from the Kansas website.
- 1:20:22[SPEAKER_04]: They still have it up there.
- 1:20:23[SPEAKER_04]: Okay.
- 1:20:25[SPEAKER_04]: So Kansas still has all these older records.
- 1:20:27[SPEAKER_04]: But there you go.
- 1:20:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:20:29[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Wesley, I mean, that was before my time.
- 1:20:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but I certainly.
- 1:20:35[SPEAKER_01]: you know, know that era a little bit just from having researched it and studied it, but now I think he was like the first one of the first very good caps of the expansion era until of course they drafted Austin Card number one overall.
- 1:20:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I failed at that question, Jack, you said you had a couple.
- 1:20:51[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I mean, can you guess which two states, Hall of Fame's William Wesley is inducted into Walter?
- 1:20:58[SPEAKER_00]: Walter Wesley, sorry.
- 1:21:00[SPEAKER_01]: William Wesley, I think is worldwide West.
- 1:21:03[SPEAKER_01]: There you go.
- 1:21:06[SPEAKER_01]: Kansas, and Illinois.
- 1:21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Got one of the two.
- 1:21:14[SPEAKER_01]: Kansas.
- 1:21:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the one's Florida.
- 1:21:17[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:21:17[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see if that was guys.
- 1:21:18[SPEAKER_01]: You think it's so hard about it.
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Ohio?
- 1:21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, okay.
- 1:21:22[SPEAKER_01]: I love the Cincinnati burials in the Cavs.
- 1:21:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so he went all around Ohio and Sam finally, we have to end our guest interviews always by asking a question that is not related to the sports that they are here to talk about.
- 1:21:35[SPEAKER_00]: So Sam, your question for today to end the show, Jensen Lewis, actually got the same question a little bit ago.
- 1:21:41[SPEAKER_00]: If you were a WWE wrestler, what would your finishing movie?
- 1:21:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought you were going to ask me about my Cleveland Browns.
- 1:21:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's see, what would by finishing movie?
- 1:21:53[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so, you know, I wish that I were more athletic so that I could answer this with, like, degree of honesty.
- 1:22:00[SPEAKER_01]: You mean, I mean, my favorite wrestler of all time is Stone Cold Steve Austin.
- 1:22:08[SPEAKER_01]: So it would have to be the stunner, right?
- 1:22:10[SPEAKER_00]: The stunner, there's no camel clutch for Sanamica.
- 1:22:13[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'd go with the stone Cold stunner.
- 1:22:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I used to be so in tune with that.
- 1:22:21[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, we should have a smack fight.
- 1:22:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to lose sleep over Stone Cold Steve Austin matches against Triple H and all that.
- 1:22:31[SPEAKER_01]: I would lose sleep the night before those matches because I was so worked up about it.
- 1:22:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, they drag it on for months.
- 1:22:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd be following the story and wouldn't sleep for months.
- 1:22:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's my life story right there in a nutshell.
- 1:22:46[SPEAKER_00]: Sam, we're going to get out more.
- 1:22:48[SPEAKER_00]: Being excited, Monday night Rod next time they're in town.
- 1:22:51[SPEAKER_00]: How about that?
- 1:22:52[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 1:22:53[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 1:22:53[SPEAKER_00]: A perfect Sam.
- 1:22:54[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much for joining us as always.
- 1:22:57[SPEAKER_00]: A pleasure to have you on Ryan.
- 1:22:59[SPEAKER_00]: I believe you on hit some score predictions.
- 1:23:01[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe for this for this week on that's the rumor.
- 1:23:03[SPEAKER_02]: Some little guards little cab or no cabs, Browns.
- 1:23:06[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, we could do the cabs.
- 1:23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, don't they have a preseason game Sunday?
- 1:23:09[SPEAKER_00]: I believe they do my friend.
- 1:23:14[SPEAKER_00]: Guard score prediction, you're Brown score prediction, and then you're cab score prediction if you want to do one for fun on Sunday.
- 1:23:22[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, so the Guardians, I'm going to eject again.
- 1:23:24[SPEAKER_04]: Remember, I ejected before that seems to be working well.
- 1:23:27[SPEAKER_04]: So I'm going to do no prediction on the Guardians to keep that karma alive for us.
- 1:23:32[SPEAKER_04]: For the Cleveland Browns, I'm going to give the Browns a win 24, 17.
- 1:23:37[SPEAKER_04]: It's going to be a nail bider there.
- 1:23:39[SPEAKER_04]: Against the jets, I think the Browns ultimately get it done.
- 1:23:42[SPEAKER_04]: are cats who do the calves play.
- 1:23:44[SPEAKER_04]: Let us look at these matchups in these preseason games.
- 1:23:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's a part I believe it is the Orlando Magic.
- 1:23:50[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it is.
- 1:23:50[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, there's a playoff team.
- 1:23:53[SPEAKER_04]: Let's go.
- 1:23:54[SPEAKER_04]: I think the calves get it done.
- 1:23:56[SPEAKER_04]: Go to one and one on the preseason.
- 1:23:58[SPEAKER_04]: They win 95, 89 over Orlando.
- 1:24:02[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 1:24:04[SPEAKER_02]: I love the orgasming preseason calf scores.
- 1:24:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to go Cavaliers 100 and
- 1:24:09[SPEAKER_02]: seven magic one hundred and brown sleut.
- 1:24:14[SPEAKER_02]: I think the brown's listen.
- 1:24:16[SPEAKER_02]: Brown should be foreign one.
- 1:24:18[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I know they're not the favorite.
- 1:24:19[SPEAKER_02]: But I'll go browns win this one.
- 1:24:23[SPEAKER_02]: 20 to 17.
- 1:24:25[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, here close on me.
- 1:24:26[SPEAKER_04]: 24 17 is what I say.
- 1:24:27[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, we're right there.
- 1:24:30[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, just this is tough.
- 1:24:31[SPEAKER_00]: Guard guards got it.
- 1:24:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's on.
- 1:24:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:24:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's just there's just no way they don't.
- 1:24:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if I can continue if they don't.
- 1:24:37[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to go guards.
- 1:24:39[SPEAKER_00]: four one four one and say that's a good score tough one I mean if it's not a lot of it even for one that's going to be a nail-biter in the night even for a for sure because it's for one you know the basis at least yeah not for one is just still like oh my god i was freaking out when they hit the winner of our guess at the home run i was freaking out on the inside last time
- 1:25:00[SPEAKER_02]: I was not what I did wasn't you maybe call me crazy for this, but I went to bed at the 9th inning because I said how did you sleep because I said this I said if the guardians blow a 5 run lead in the 9th I don't care that I missed it.
- 1:25:12[SPEAKER_02]: They deserved to lose that.
- 1:25:13[SPEAKER_04]: I'm like I'm going to bed and I'm feeling fresh and I'm ready for Saturday That's not and this next generation of Cleveland fan is crazy, man I was up until like three in the morning just double checking and refreshing the apps making sure the score was right
- 1:25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, me, I was doing the same thing.
- 1:25:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a little worried though for the calves.
- 1:25:30[SPEAKER_00]: It sounds like Felix, Park, Parrot, the second round pick of the magic is making his preseason debut.
- 1:25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, yeah.
- 1:25:36[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to go, yeah, I'm going to go 110, 98, the magic, take that one.
- 1:25:40[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Cleveland Browns are absolutely winning Sunday, against the Lily Lily Jets.
- 1:25:44[SPEAKER_00]: What I say this week, 23 to three, I think.
- 1:25:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm keeping it.
- 1:25:47[SPEAKER_00]: 20 point blowout, guards win by three, calves lose.
- 1:25:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that way that a Cleveland team loses will be okay.
- 1:25:52[SPEAKER_00]: How about that?
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_00]: Sound good?
- 1:25:53[SPEAKER_00]: Sounds good to me, my friend.
- 1:25:54[SPEAKER_00]: Take me to the weekend.
- 1:25:55[SPEAKER_00]: How about we do it, guys?
- 1:25:56[SPEAKER_00]: Make sure to like, comment, and subscribe as always to the Big Play Cleveland Show live.
- 1:26:00[SPEAKER_00]: 12 to 130 every single weekday.
- 1:26:03[SPEAKER_00]: Next time we talk to you, the guards hopefully play in ALCS baseball.
