- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to STC Football Addiction. We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:03Speaker 1: We're all new users who play a $ 5 lineup and win,
- 0:05Speaker 1: get 150 in lineups instantly. Sports Talk Jay on with
- 0:09Speaker 1: us for a few minutes today. Use that code HMA
- 0:12Speaker 1: over on the PrizePix app. Jay, Tennessee just cannot stay
- 0:17Speaker 1: out of the bad news. More bad news with another
- 0:20Speaker 1: season-ending injury today. Is Tennessee going to have anybody left
- 0:25Speaker 1: by the time we get to October, November for these games?
- 0:30Speaker 2: I tell you, it goes to show you how important
- 0:32Speaker 2: the next man up is. I hate it for these
- 0:35Speaker 2: guys that I know the effort that they put in
- 0:38Speaker 2: to get to the point to get to play.
- 0:41Speaker 3: And I remember when I lived at Gibbs Hall back.
- 0:45Speaker 2: In the 80s and I was playing on the golf team,
- 0:47Speaker 2: which obviously we didn't have to worry about all these
- 0:50Speaker 2: injuries and stuff. But I called it General Hospital because
- 0:53Speaker 2: there was always a dozen guys in boots and slings
- 0:57Speaker 2: and just were always hurt all the time.
- 1:00Speaker 3: And it's no different now. You know, even though they've got.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Better equipment and better medical care and all that, you're
- 1:05Speaker 2: still at such a violent sport and just get hurt
- 1:08Speaker 2: all the time. This is a lot of guys out
- 1:12Speaker 2: for the season for Tennessee, and we had such a
- 1:14Speaker 2: bad offseason. But it's very– this is why I don't
- 1:18Speaker 2: mind them making really good money. Because I'm telling you,
- 1:21Speaker 2: you're talking about having your knee taken out like that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That has long-term ramifications when he's 40, 50 that as
- 1:27Speaker 2: I get older, I realize that those nagging things come
- 1:30Speaker 2: back and you have to revisit them.
- 1:32Speaker 1: It is tough. Tennessee offensively, a lot of weapons and stuff,
- 1:36Speaker 1: but they've also got a lot. Like I just said,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you talked about the next man up. They've got a
- 1:41Speaker 1: lot of weapons. How big of a blow is this?
- 1:44Speaker 2: It hurts because this is one of Faison's favorite targets.
- 1:47Speaker 2: He's already thrown two touchdowns to him. And this is
- 1:49Speaker 2: a guy that he worked with a lot in the offseason.
- 1:51Speaker 3: So, yeah, it hurts.
- 1:53Speaker 2: And this is our first big offensive loss. Mainly we've
- 1:57Speaker 2: gotten really hurt on the defense. And you know you're
- 2:01Speaker 2: going to have some injuries, obviously, as the season goes on. But, yeah,
- 2:03Speaker 2: this one hurts because he's comfortable throwing the ball.
- 2:06Speaker 1: To this guy.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Did you– thinking about the Georgia Tech game for just
- 2:10Speaker 1: a minute, because I know it's been a few days
- 2:12Speaker 1: since it happened– I was really impressed, and I said
- 2:16Speaker 1: this in my recap. I was really impressed with the
- 2:18Speaker 1: way that Tennessee responded because I thought that you're playing
- 2:21Speaker 1: on the road, true freshman quarterback, loud stadium. Georgia Tech's
- 2:24Speaker 1: got nothing to lose because they'd already lost to Colorado.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Their season probably isn't going to turn out the way
- 2:28Speaker 1: it wants to. You have something fluky go on, like
- 2:31Speaker 1: a blocked punt for a touchdown. It's just things that
- 2:34Speaker 1: are out of your control. I thought the response by
- 2:37Speaker 1: Tennessee and the composure by Brandon, to be very fair,
- 2:41Speaker 1: he was the true freshman quarterback that could have very
- 2:43Speaker 1: easily just– screw the pooch and throw two interceptions in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the second quarter to make a deficit, a worse deficit.
- 2:50Speaker 1: He looks so mature. And it wasn't his best game.
- 2:53Speaker 1: I think we can all agree with that. But I
- 2:55Speaker 1: do think that the response was really good, and then
- 2:58Speaker 1: they ended up running him off the field for the
- 3:00Speaker 1: next three quarters.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a bit of a trap game that
- 3:05Speaker 2: I was concerned about going into it because I knew
- 3:07Speaker 2: that Georgia Tech would be desperate. I mean, they were
- 3:10Speaker 2: a very desperate team. They've lost– They lost five of
- 3:14Speaker 2: the last six. Now they've lost six out of the
- 3:15Speaker 2: last seven. They're learning how to lose. And I know
- 3:18Speaker 2: that Brent Key was doing everything in his power to
- 3:22Speaker 2: motivate those guys to give it everything they had. I
- 3:25Speaker 2: think that our fan base played a key role in
- 3:29Speaker 2: turning the tides a little bit because they were having
- 3:32Speaker 2: trouble with the noise. Their center, who wasn't their starting center,
- 3:36Speaker 2: was struggling with the noise problem of the Tennessee Vols
- 3:39Speaker 2: fan base in their home stadium, which I'm with. That
- 3:42Speaker 2: really makes a big difference over time if your fan
- 3:47Speaker 2: base travels well, and ours does.
- 3:52Speaker 1: It was the Bobby Dodd takeover instead of the Ohio
- 3:55Speaker 1: State takeover. I'll tell you, there is nothing like Tennessee fans.
- 3:59Speaker 1: We both get them all in the comments all the time,
- 4:01Speaker 1: all the guys and stuff. The way that they're able
- 4:04Speaker 1: to travel, and obviously, how far is Knoxville from Atlanta?
- 4:08Speaker 1: You probably have so many transplants that live there anyway.
- 4:11Speaker 1: it was impressive because it was, you know, you're not
- 4:15Speaker 1: supposed to be able to do that. I don't even
- 4:16Speaker 1: know that Georgia fully does that when they play that
- 4:18Speaker 1: rivalry game.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it was supposedly, well, I tell you, the Georgia
- 4:23Speaker 2: Tech fan, I showed his reaction on rec talk. He
- 4:27Speaker 2: said it was 50 to 55% in his opinion. My
- 4:30Speaker 2: brother felt like it was about that and he was
- 4:32Speaker 2: there and he took a whole crew with him and
- 4:36Speaker 2: he was very impressed. He was like, man, he said,
- 4:38Speaker 2: I almost feel like It's a little bit like being
- 4:41Speaker 2: at home and he was walking down the... the frat
- 4:45Speaker 2: row and all that. And there was tons of Tennessee fans.
- 4:47Speaker 2: And he was like, man, he's like, this is great.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Can't complain about that. I'll get right back to chatting
- 4:52Speaker 1: with sports talk, Jay. But first I want to tell
- 4:54Speaker 1: you about our friends over alumni hall. I'll tell you
- 4:55Speaker 1: guys about this weekly, but again, if you are shopping
- 4:57Speaker 1: for Tennessee volunteers gear, do it at the place that
- 5:01Speaker 1: has the largest and best game day selection in the game.
- 5:04Speaker 1: It's alumni hall, whether you're in person heading to the
- 5:07Speaker 1: game or whether you're shopping online, alumni hall.com. Use my
- 5:11Speaker 1: code CFA 15. That's for college football addiction, 15, You'll
- 5:15Speaker 1: say 15% on your order again, both online and in store.
- 5:18Speaker 1: We appreciate alumni hall for their support. Now back to Jay.
- 5:21Speaker 1: That's a, that's certainly fun. Um, obviously the, you know,
- 5:28Speaker 1: the game against Kennesaw state, I don't know how much
- 5:30Speaker 1: time we just spent on that, but looking ahead a week,
- 5:33Speaker 1: just big picture thoughts on Tennessee and Texas.
- 5:36Speaker 2: That's where everything's headed. You know, this will be a, a,
- 5:41Speaker 2: a warmup game. Of course, uh, I saw Coach Heupel,
- 5:44Speaker 2: they brought that up to me.
- 5:45Speaker 3: He's like, no, no, there's no warm-up games. Go ahead.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Because he has to do that, which I totally understand.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But that's kind of what this is going to be.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And then we're going to have the number one team
- 5:55Speaker 2: in the country coming to Neyland. It's going to be
- 5:57Speaker 2: at noon, which is annoying. But here's the thing. It's exciting,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and that's why we really like Heupel, because we know
- 6:04Speaker 2: we have a chance to win every single game we're
- 6:07Speaker 2: in against whoever we're playing. because that offense gives you
- 6:10Speaker 2: a chance. It always keeps you in the game, and
- 6:14Speaker 2: you can score two or three touchdowns in a quarter
- 6:16Speaker 2: very easily with that offense, and he's proven that over
- 6:19Speaker 2: the last six years.
- 6:20Speaker 3: So I'm pumped.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I know we won't be favored in this game, but
- 6:25Speaker 2: this is the whole point of football is these great
- 6:28Speaker 2: situations where you've got the number one team coming in
- 6:30Speaker 2: and you might just take them down.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I tell you, they got to play
- 6:36Speaker 1: that Ohio State game at home. It was a phenomenal
- 6:39Speaker 1: comeback game of the year type stuff. A lot of fun.
- 6:42Speaker 1: It is different going in with a hundred thousand. I mean,
- 6:45Speaker 1: maybe there'll be used to the orange, but I don't
- 6:46Speaker 1: know if there'll be so used to the noise that'll
- 6:49Speaker 1: happen there. Big one in Oxford this weekend with LSU
- 6:53Speaker 1: and Lane Kiffin heading back home, kind of temporary home.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I don't know how to exactly say that, but LSU
- 7:00Speaker 1: heading back to Oxford this I would talk about the
- 7:04Speaker 1: things that, you know, don't compare. Nothing compares to a, well,
- 7:08Speaker 1: maybe the Tennessee one later in the year, but nothing
- 7:10Speaker 1: will compare this weekend to what Lane Kiffin is walking
- 7:14Speaker 1: into in Oxford, Mississippi.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in for it.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Like we were talking before, I hope that the Ole
- 7:21Speaker 2: Miss fans don't do anything that he can use against
- 7:23Speaker 2: them later or the national media will, but I know
- 7:26Speaker 2: he's going to hear about it in a way that
- 7:29Speaker 2: It's going to be probably worse than the Tennessee situation
- 7:32Speaker 2: when he came back to play or when Ole Miss
- 7:34Speaker 2: came up to play Tennessee back in, I think it was,
- 7:38Speaker 2: I can't remember what year that was, I think 21.
- 7:40Speaker 2: And he was fake injuring, I think it was 12
- 7:43Speaker 2: fake injuries that he had in that game.
- 7:46Speaker 3: And I've documented many of those.
- 7:49Speaker 2: If he starts that crap with Ole Miss, I don't
- 7:52Speaker 2: know if the crowd can handle that.
- 7:53Speaker 3: So, you know, hopefully it's a pretty straight up game.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It should be a great game. because Trinidad Chambliss is
- 8:00Speaker 2: an excellent QB. They've got a really good one, too.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I think it's going to be an absolute barn burner.
- 8:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's the fun. I'll tell you what is underrated
- 8:10Speaker 1: or interesting. There's two other games that I kind of
- 8:12Speaker 1: have my eye on, and they're not marquee like that.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But that's the game of the week. Auburn versus Florida
- 8:19Speaker 1: is a lot of fun. Two coaches that were hired
- 8:23Speaker 1: the same time. The Auburn coach and the Auburn quarterback
- 8:27Speaker 1: beat the Gators in the swamp last year. And the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Florida coach is who Auburn, they won't admit this now,
- 8:33Speaker 1: but it's really who Auburn wanted. And I think Summerall
- 8:35Speaker 1: was going to Auburn before Lane told Florida no thanks.
- 8:39Speaker 1: So yeah.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Cause what was it?
- 8:40Speaker 2: Summerall was going to interview with Florida and they threw
- 8:43Speaker 2: a dadgum fit.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Yeah. And he, they were like, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- 8:47Speaker 1: So I, uh, the, the storylines in this one are fun.
- 8:50Speaker 1: And then you got two coaches. They're hired at the
- 8:52Speaker 1: same time to, to, you know, see kind of who's ahead.
- 8:55Speaker 1: And then, uh, SMU in Louisville is a really fun one.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I think that's for second place in the ACC. And
- 9:00Speaker 1: so I know that's not as exciting as, you know,
- 9:02Speaker 1: LSU Ole Miss or anything, but there's good games. Um,
- 9:05Speaker 1: who wins LSU Ole Miss?
- 9:07Speaker 2: Oh, boy.
- 9:09Speaker 3: That's a tough one.
- 9:10Speaker 2: It looks like LSU, but I tell you that home
- 9:13Speaker 2: court advantage is going to be huge. I think Ole
- 9:17Speaker 2: Miss might pull some sort of upset or something. Darn it,
- 9:20Speaker 2: Lane's so lucky, though.
- 9:24Speaker 1: He frustrates you.
- 9:26Speaker 3: I know, he does. He's just got a rabbit's foot.
- 9:29Speaker 3: stuck up his rear end.
- 9:32Speaker 2: LSU will probably win, but I'm going to be, I
- 9:35Speaker 2: got a root for Ole Miss. I don't have any choice.
- 9:36Speaker 2: And that's, I actually liked the LSU fan base. I
- 9:39Speaker 2: get along with them fine. And of course they've got
- 9:41Speaker 2: the greatest food in the world. So I really haven't,
- 9:45Speaker 2: but he, that whole thing with Lane, I couldn't have
- 9:48Speaker 2: him go to Florida because that would have just, that
- 9:50Speaker 2: would have been overwhelmingly negative for me had.
- 9:53Speaker 1: He done that.
- 9:54Speaker 2: So I wanted him to go to LSU, but now,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I kind of like LSU folks. so yeah this is
- 10:00Speaker 2: frustrating for me I'm gonna root for Ole Miss though.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Uh who wins Summerall or Gullish Auburn Florida.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Man maybe Florida I'm gonna have to I'm gonna get
- 10:15Speaker 2: floor the edge but I I'm not I'm not sure
- 10:19Speaker 2: what they've got at Florida, and I'm not sure what
- 10:21Speaker 2: they've got at Auburn either. They didn't impress me against Baylor,
- 10:25Speaker 2: and I don't know. Maybe Florida edges. It's at Florida, correct?
- 10:31Speaker 1: No, no, it's in the Plains. Oh, it is.
- 10:36Speaker 3: I'll give Auburn the edge then.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Weird things happen in Jordan-Hare.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It's that close, yeah. There are some crazy things that
- 10:43Speaker 2: do happen there.
- 10:45Speaker 1: They got the, it's, it's spooky town around there when
- 10:47Speaker 1: that happens. So last one for you is this, you
- 10:52Speaker 1: were complaining about your AD a few months ago. Can
- 10:55Speaker 1: we have him? Can we, can we have him in
- 10:56Speaker 1: Tallahassee or are you, are you, have you ended that bridge?
- 10:59Speaker 3: I'm okay with him now. Hey, look, I'm somebody that
- 11:02Speaker 3: will forgive. If you've, if you correct your issue, I will.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Get over it because he does some things really well,
- 11:09Speaker 2: which is raise money. And he understands you've got to
- 11:13Speaker 2: have a winner there. He's won me back over with
- 11:16Speaker 2: the basketball and the baseball portal. And if he'll continue
- 11:19Speaker 2: that with the football, he won't have any trouble with me,
- 11:22Speaker 2: even though I know he's not everybody's fan favorite. He's
- 11:25Speaker 2: building Danny's dream house over there, which is fine. As
- 11:29Speaker 2: long as he's making sure that we're competitive at the
- 11:33Speaker 2: top level, you know, top 10 level, he's.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Not going to have any trouble out of me.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The only person you won't forgive is the head coach
- 11:41Speaker 1: down there in Baton Rouge, I believe.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't forgive.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I don't want to.
- 11:46Speaker 2: And plus, here's the thing about Lane. We really needed
- 11:49Speaker 2: a villain in this sport. It's always good to have one.
- 11:53Speaker 2: As I've said many times, without the shark, Jaws is
- 11:57Speaker 2: just a fishing trip. Yeah.
- 11:58Speaker 3: You need the shark, and he makes a great one.
- 12:02Speaker 1: He does a good job with it. So Sports Talk
- 12:04Speaker 1: Jay over on YouTube. Make sure you are subscribed. Again,
- 12:07Speaker 1: appreciate our friends over at PrizePix. All new users there.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Play $ 5, win, use code HMA, and you get $ 150
- 12:12Speaker 1: in lineups instantly. Jay, we'll see you next week, bud.
- 12:15Speaker 2: All right. No problem.
