- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, so if you remember,
- 0:05Speaker 1: I had a busy week this week from Fanatics Fest
- 0:09Speaker 1: going into Commerce Next Growth show, and I'm going to
- 0:13Speaker 1: get to loading up with some of the Fanatics first
- 0:17Speaker 1: audio I got, but I want to just put a
- 0:20Speaker 1: recap on Commerce Next since it's fresh on my brain.
- 0:24Speaker 1: And here are the various interviews I got to do
- 0:27Speaker 1: in the three days that we were at Commerce Next.
- 0:33Speaker 1: All right, Well at Commerce Next Day too.
- 0:34Speaker 2: I'm here with a group that's in the ADA space
- 0:38Speaker 2: for sure with web accessibility.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Accessively ac CESSIP and I'm going to Natasha, So now
- 0:45Speaker 1: i'll excessive me.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Thanks for joining the podcast, Thanks for having me.
- 0:48Speaker 1: So when I saw ADA, I immediately jumped at the
- 0:50Speaker 1: opportunity to come out and talk to you guys. How
- 0:53Speaker 1: are you helping those disabilities make the web more accessible
- 0:55Speaker 1: for this?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 0:57Speaker 4: I mean one thing is like web access the ability
- 1:00Speaker 4: is such a big space.
- 1:02Speaker 1: It's also more.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Important than the average person things right, Like everybody now
- 1:06Speaker 4: needs to access the webinaring websites and the Internet.
- 1:09Speaker 3: So much of our lives are now on the.
- 1:11Speaker 4: Internet, whether it's shopping, whether it's just setting up an
- 1:15Speaker 4: appointment online for your doctor or even getting a license online.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Everything is online now and everybody needs to be able
- 1:21Speaker 4: to access and that's what our key mission. And excessively
- 1:23Speaker 4: we have technology and that allows websites to.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Any statistics that you guys saw were so alarming that
- 1:31Speaker 1: this had to be done.
- 1:32Speaker 4: I think it's just alarming how many websites are not accessible.
- 1:35Speaker 4: There's so much work still to be done. Ninety seven
- 1:38Speaker 4: percent of all websites are not accessible currently.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Eighty eight hearing and also a visual right.
- 1:45Speaker 4: It includes visual and includes members of the community who
- 1:48Speaker 4: are PROD seizures, and includes ADHD, includes so many things
- 1:52Speaker 4: that are people might not think of.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Living of this filities.
- 1:54Speaker 1: All right, well, I'm going to connect it with the
- 1:55Speaker 1: Viscardi Center because that's a place for people disabilities.
- 1:58Speaker 2: They're also in the liver Accessibility.
- 2:00Speaker 1: To make a larger here, so that would be great.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Interestingly enough, sinhas a colleague came over and said, oh, well,
- 2:11Speaker 1: we do work with the Viscardi Center. So in fact,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Accessive me and Viscardi are partnered. Take a listen.
- 2:18Speaker 2: All right, I'm here with Superior Dan and this is
- 2:20Speaker 2: amazing because you are connected to the Viscardi Center.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Through excessity for the operation of the Commerce Next Confidence.
- 2:26Speaker 3: I mean, so I love working with the Viscardi Center.
- 2:29Speaker 5: We're big fans of Mike Peparra and the team there
- 2:31Speaker 5: and all that you're doing. We came to the Commerce
- 2:34Speaker 5: Next conference because e commerce brands are really the main
- 2:37Speaker 5: target of the ADAH compliance slaw suits, and we want
- 2:40Speaker 5: to make sure that they need to know.
- 2:42Speaker 3: That websites should be accessible, so that they should reach
- 2:44Speaker 3: all the customers that they can, and that they could improve.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Their brand reputation, brand loyalty and optimize their website.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Aquestions possible.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Now let me ask you about the stats. Is their
- 2:53Speaker 1: stats saying how many websites are not accessible? That's alarmed development, Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 5: I think one should be alarmed that only four percent
- 3:01Speaker 5: of websites are accessive.
- 3:03Speaker 1: That I did not know.
- 3:03Speaker 3: So that's kind of that I.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Did not know. Yeah, you would think that now in
- 3:08Speaker 5: twenty twenty five there would be more awareness and more
- 3:10Speaker 5: of an effort, But websites are being built every day
- 3:13Speaker 5: and there isn't enough education around web as visibility. This
- 3:16Speaker 5: is actually where it's GUARDI Center's doing amazing work and.
- 3:19Speaker 1: They're going I mean we're building in Albertson, but they
- 3:22Speaker 1: are national at this point international I would.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Say was yes, Well, they've definitely done a really good
- 3:26Speaker 5: job and they're working with a.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Lot of different partners. I think that one of the
- 3:30Speaker 3: big things is people are building.
- 3:34Speaker 5: Websites and they don't know how to do it on
- 3:36Speaker 5: their own, or they don't know how to do accessibility
- 3:38Speaker 5: on their own.
- 3:38Speaker 3: So I can even give myself it as an example.
- 3:40Speaker 5: Before I came to work at Eccessity, I was managing
- 3:42Speaker 5: a website for a nonprofita.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I was dragging and dropping headers all over the place.
- 3:46Speaker 3: None of my pictures had alt texts.
- 3:48Speaker 5: Every single button seids click here, but it was nondescriptive
- 3:51Speaker 5: where you were clicking.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So the audio portion of it too, is what you're saying.
- 3:55Speaker 5: It was the least accessible website of all time, and
- 3:57Speaker 5: gladly they've changed that.
- 3:59Speaker 3: But since coming takes to be I've learned so much
- 4:00Speaker 3: about what it takes to make a webdates.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Is that what dream to accessibly? Because you realize how
- 4:04Speaker 1: inaccessible I really wanted to work on.
- 4:06Speaker 5: A tech that I felt was impoctable, and everyone's online,
- 4:09Speaker 5: we might as well make it work for you.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Now, are you in classrooms across the country as well
- 4:13Speaker 1: or what's your corto?
- 4:15Speaker 5: Necessarily in classrooms, but I did do a session recently
- 4:19Speaker 5: with a group of students who just graduated a class
- 4:22Speaker 5: about web accessibility hopefully became a sea packer inside, which
- 4:25Speaker 5: is awesome, And we did a class for them on
- 4:28Speaker 5: how to build their resume and how to promote themselves
- 4:31Speaker 5: on LinkedIn so that they can find jobs in the
- 4:33Speaker 5: web accessibility space.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Now this might be a little different, but accessibility to
- 4:36Speaker 1: the Internet. Are you guys working on that as well
- 4:38Speaker 1: to make sure more people do have the Internet? Or
- 4:39Speaker 1: is that a different feel?
- 4:41Speaker 5: Oh?
- 4:41Speaker 3: I wish we were. I think that is such a
- 4:43Speaker 3: full and important space to be in. We haven't gotten
- 4:45Speaker 3: there quite yet, but I think.
- 4:47Speaker 5: That having accessibility for rural locations, for places where there
- 4:52Speaker 5: isn't access is really important.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You find accessible on a lot of podcasts or are
- 4:56Speaker 1: we breaking ground.
- 4:57Speaker 6: Here with this? I hope so?
- 4:59Speaker 3: I think we I don't seek that's great.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Well, thanks so much for joining me today.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Thank you is right? I know, swing in this geek
- 5:07Speaker 3: well soap tell me about.
- 5:08Speaker 1: The artwork that we just saw on my Instagram. Alex
- 5:10Speaker 1: f One the artwork.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Is live painting for people.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, we're doing for pet three D realistic.
- 5:20Speaker 7: Uh you know, I'm old school and.
- 5:22Speaker 3: I'm three D that's my background.
- 5:25Speaker 2: So we're just giving people some color, nice, a little
- 5:28Speaker 2: bit of creativity so they can forget. Maybe this is
- 5:32Speaker 2: your first commerce next, have you been doing this before?
- 5:35Speaker 5: You know, I've been.
- 5:36Speaker 8: I've actually been to uh looking before.
- 5:40Speaker 3: A few months ago we were airbrushing dish and the
- 5:42Speaker 3: same thing.
- 5:43Speaker 1: It was like a conference for lawyers and dude, they
- 5:46Speaker 1: were just.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Stop just watching those bags getting paints waits one after
- 5:51Speaker 2: the other.
- 5:51Speaker 9: We just don't want to go like everyone guys maybe
- 5:54Speaker 9: I don't know scare by AI, Like, let's just forget
- 5:56Speaker 9: about this.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Selection man, So everyone got so much so much.
- 5:59Speaker 5: Second.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's as famous on the fall.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Right is that right?
- 6:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's going to be a neighborhood famous.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Very cool.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Well, congratulate fromout the Cordial Bordega pop up.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And I guess you're.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Part of Cordial today, right, Yes, I am.
- 6:13Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 3: You should definitely feed the final piece at the end.
- 6:15Speaker 4: It's going to take me.
- 6:16Speaker 2: A few hours to finish.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Tomorrow would be finished. I'll be at my other job tomorrow.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I go by and see this tomorrow. So we got
- 6:22Speaker 1: a final picture making fee on tomorrow.
- 6:26Speaker 2: One of the biggest groups that have won leg up
- 6:29Speaker 2: at this event with the Mural and all that fun
- 6:31Speaker 2: stuff is Cordial. So I want to get to know
- 6:33Speaker 2: more about be Cordial here at the twenty twelve Commerce
- 6:37Speaker 2: Next conference. I've got Christie Parris with me, Christie Wichural
- 6:40Speaker 2: with Cordial.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 7: I'm our senior director of Client Partnership, So I oversee
- 6:45Speaker 7: bringing other new clients into the building and making them
- 6:50Speaker 7: comfortable and having agree integration experience and making sure that
- 6:53Speaker 7: the services can bring really help them move their herds forward.
- 6:58Speaker 1: On the top and tell me about what brings you
- 7:01Speaker 1: to Commerce Next.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, So I'm sticks.
- 7:03Speaker 7: To such a great conference for us because we have
- 7:05Speaker 7: a lot of retail presence, very much here to work retail,
- 7:09Speaker 7: and this is a place where all the retailers come
- 7:11Speaker 7: to shop for new technology and understand the new great
- 7:14Speaker 7: things that vendors like Cordial can do in the areas
- 7:18Speaker 7: of AI, prualization and outbound messaging.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I've asked about the mural, whose idea was that the step.
- 7:24Speaker 7: She's our meeting planner and we wanted to really hit
- 7:27Speaker 7: the vibe of New York City as well as the
- 7:30Speaker 7: Cordial vibe. We're a relatively casual San Diego based company
- 7:34Speaker 7: and we like to be a little edgy but also
- 7:37Speaker 7: very fun.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Ordeal to me seems like a gentle you know, but
- 7:40Speaker 1: it is very friendly vibe.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I guess right, exactly.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, Christie, where can we find out more about Cordial?
- 7:46Speaker 7: Yeah, go to Cordial dot com or follow us on
- 7:48Speaker 7: LinkedIn and learn a little bit more about what the
- 7:51Speaker 7: company does.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Very cool.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Thanks for joining me today.
- 7:54Speaker 8: And to round out Commerce Next.
- 7:56Speaker 1: On day three, I stopped into the main stage for
- 8:00Speaker 1: Commerce Next where Kim Rollman, a foot Locker the chief
- 8:06Speaker 1: customer's officer, was talking about how foot Locker is staying
- 8:11Speaker 1: relevant and continuing to ignite the sneaker culture.
- 8:16Speaker 8: Footlocker is always really helps this way with a young
- 8:18Speaker 8: diverse consumer. You know, the vast majority of our customers
- 8:22Speaker 8: or under the.
- 8:22Speaker 6: Age of thirty four teams are the fastest for an
- 8:25Speaker 6: age group within our portfolio, and so it's been really
- 8:28Speaker 6: important that we have been tapped into youth culture for
- 8:31Speaker 6: a long time and what we're seeing.
- 8:33Speaker 9: Any insights from gen Z in particular, is you know,
- 8:36Speaker 9: they're a little bit worn out by the hype culture
- 8:40Speaker 9: around sneakers and this idea of just accumulating more and
- 8:44Speaker 9: more stuff just to like put it on a wall
- 8:47Speaker 9: and take a picture, right, like, how about you actually
- 8:49Speaker 9: wear the sneakers that you buy, right?
- 8:51Speaker 8: And where we're seeing them connect into speaker.
- 8:54Speaker 9: Culture more and more is this idea of self expression,
- 8:57Speaker 9: this individuality that they can and try on different looks
- 9:02Speaker 9: and explore different personas through the lens of sinkers. And
- 9:05Speaker 9: so that's something we're really trying to celebrate and lean
- 9:08Speaker 9: into because it is organic for gen Z, but it's
- 9:11Speaker 9: a bit of a.
- 9:12Speaker 8: Shift maybe from prior generations.
- 9:14Speaker 1: And so to hear foot Lockers staying relevant like this
- 9:19Speaker 1: as I remember it as a nineties staple, it's pretty
- 9:22Speaker 1: awesome than in twenty twenty five they are leaning into,
- 9:25Speaker 1: as she was saying, the youth culture and the sneaker
- 9:28Speaker 1: culture and doing their best to have one leg up
- 9:32Speaker 1: in that space. And it was so awesome to get
- 9:35Speaker 1: to see foot Locker at Commerce Next, And it was
- 9:40Speaker 1: an honor to be a member of the media at
- 9:44Speaker 1: Commerce Next twenty twenty five. And maybe, just maybe we'll
- 9:48Speaker 1: see you there in Commerce Next Growth Show twenty twenty
- 9:51Speaker 1: six and spend more time there with you. And the
- 9:56Speaker 1: other part that was really awesome to me is Cousins
- 9:59Speaker 1: Commerce an e commerce to put this brand one leg
- 10:03Speaker 1: up with Alex Garrett one leg up out there meant
- 10:08Speaker 1: a lot as well. So thanks to Commerce Next for
- 10:10Speaker 1: having one leg up with Alex Garrett there and guess
- 10:14Speaker 1: what if all things work out, we'll see you there
- 10:16Speaker 1: next year at the twenty twenty six Commerce Next Approach Show.
