- 1:19Speaker 1: holiday weekend, JD worry out on you. Labor Day weekend, barbecuing,
- 1:23Speaker 1: water skiing. How do you celebrate the official end of summer?
- 1:27Speaker 2: I don't you Just can I catch up on work
- 1:31Speaker 2: when people are are out celebrating and obviously you know
- 1:36Speaker 2: Labor Day and Memorial Day and all those things, those
- 1:39Speaker 2: are those are times of reflect and things like that.
- 1:41Speaker 2: But for me, the three day weekend, I like to
- 1:44Speaker 2: catch up on everything that I need to catch up on,
- 1:47Speaker 2: and I feel like I get a leg up on everybody. Yeah,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and then once the once the week starts, then I
- 1:51Speaker 2: take my vacation where everybody's back to work. So I
- 1:54Speaker 2: like to flip it. No traffic, everything's clean, smooth. I
- 1:58Speaker 2: don't like to go to the beaches when it's packed.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I just you know, I just went to Italy and
- 2:02Speaker 2: we went to every place that's not tourist like to
- 2:05Speaker 2: stay away from the population.
- 2:06Speaker 1: This feels a little bit like an am I wrong?
- 2:08Speaker 1: Like you look at Labor Day holiday weekend, this is
- 2:12Speaker 1: the time to celebrate the unofficial end of summer. You go, No,
- 2:15Speaker 1: I live in Arizona, so if the weather's still nice,
- 2:16Speaker 1: it is no unofficial end of summer. And I'm with
- 2:20Speaker 1: you one hundred percent of avoiding the beach. People like oh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Jersey Shore, one last Kick, I go. You couldn't pay
- 2:24Speaker 1: enough dollars together their Labor Day weekend?
- 2:26Speaker 2: No way? Yeah, now, chance, it's it's it's like going
- 2:29Speaker 2: to dinner Friday Saturday. I understand our lives are some
- 2:33Speaker 2: people's lives. You're working a nine to five and you
- 2:36Speaker 2: know you don't have the opportunity, But like Friday Saturday,
- 2:40Speaker 2: when when everybody's going out and things are packed, I'm
- 2:43Speaker 2: not doing that. I'd rather find a way to be
- 2:45Speaker 2: tired on a Tuesday and going on a Monday night
- 2:47Speaker 2: just because I know I can get to all the
- 2:50Speaker 2: best restaurants, best places without anybody that ain't of the
- 2:53Speaker 2: riff wrap there. Well, yeah, Jersey, imagine Jersey Shore one
- 2:57Speaker 2: last Kick.
- 2:58Speaker 1: I was watching the news. I was like, Oh, it's
- 3:00Speaker 1: so great out here. You know, I'm just enjoying Ashbury Parking. God, God,
- 3:03Speaker 1: you're like, what are you leaven at eight am to
- 3:05Speaker 1: get their camping out overnight? Like that's a disaster. I
- 3:07Speaker 1: love the beach as much as anybody, but you're right,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Labor Day weekend. I am pro barbecue, though. I think
- 3:12Speaker 1: a good little barbecue is good.
- 3:13Speaker 2: I did a little bit.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, burgers and dogs to the wrong with that little steak.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Okay, I have a POV for you guys for that.
- 3:20Speaker 2: What's your take because you know you talk about like,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, getting there at eight a m. Like the
- 3:24Speaker 2: people that go to they'll go to like the beach
- 3:27Speaker 2: you know in Fort Lauderdale or or in Florida or
- 3:29Speaker 2: at these sandals resorts, people run out of like six
- 3:33Speaker 2: in the morning and throw their towels down on the
- 3:35Speaker 2: set of chairs that are like at the front of
- 3:37Speaker 2: the pool. Like, what's your take on that? Like should
- 3:39Speaker 2: those people be absolutely? Yeah? Right, Like let's off.
- 3:44Speaker 1: If you're there, you're there, don't don't just hoard it. Yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 1: Like you're just walking your territory.
- 3:48Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Just mark You're just marking your territory. And then you
- 3:50Speaker 2: leave and you sit there all day doing nothing because
- 3:54Speaker 2: you want to be close to the pool and get
- 3:56Speaker 2: one picture for Instagram.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That's weak sauce tow Were you at Labor Day weekend
- 4:00Speaker 1: on the fishing again, you are in a warm climate.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You're in California. You have you have nice lille all
- 4:03Speaker 1: the time. In Jersey, it's different.
- 4:04Speaker 4: It was brutal, yeah, and the heat was brutal here
- 4:07Speaker 4: over the weekend too. It was I mean, by California standards,
- 4:10Speaker 4: by Arizona standards, it probably wasn't that bad. Yeah, exactly
- 4:13Speaker 4: ninety one degrees, but it was hot.
- 4:16Speaker 2: It was hot. But yeah, we I.
- 4:19Speaker 4: It's I feel it feels so long. Like the kids
- 4:21Speaker 4: were off Friday at school here, so it's a four
- 4:24Speaker 4: day weekend. And a buddy invited me to a barbecue.
- 4:27Speaker 4: We went to that. That was about it, and we
- 4:30Speaker 4: went out and tried to just keep the ac on.
- 4:32Speaker 4: I like the beach, but I don't want to go
- 4:34Speaker 4: to the beach on the busiest beach weekend of the
- 4:36Speaker 4: whole year. And I'm not a big lay on the
- 4:39Speaker 4: beach guy. If I'm going to the beach, I'm in
- 4:41Speaker 4: the ocean and I'm hanging out in the ocean. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 4: my my pale Eastern European lineage will not let me
- 4:51Speaker 4: just bake on the beach for three hours. I can't
- 4:53Speaker 4: do it. It'll be it'll be bad. Yeah, yeah, lobster
- 4:57Speaker 4: face after that. So I'm definitely not doing that. But
- 5:00Speaker 4: we we we had a nice long weekend and but
- 5:03Speaker 4: I'm not like, I'm not going all out or anything
- 5:06Speaker 4: like that.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I was gonna ask, what do you think about school
- 5:08Speaker 1: being started again? You mentioned in California again, in the
- 5:11Speaker 1: East Coast, we start school after labor, which IVE always liked.
- 5:13Speaker 1: They grew up like that in Ontario. Do you like
- 5:15Speaker 1: the mid August you guys go back to school in California.
- 5:18Speaker 2: It's awful out here too. In Arizona, I.
- 5:21Speaker 4: Was third week of August. I think the kid, the
- 5:23Speaker 4: kid went back to school. I mean I was ready
- 5:25Speaker 4: for it. He wasn't ready for it. I was ready
- 5:28Speaker 4: for it, that's for damn sure. But it does seem early.
- 5:32Speaker 4: It seems like so early it's still summer. It's still summer.
- 5:35Speaker 4: I mean, I, hey, get back to school, kid. I
- 5:37Speaker 4: don't care if it's July.
- 5:38Speaker 2: But they thrown me a horse camp or something.
- 5:43Speaker 4: But I feel like if I was going up and
- 5:45Speaker 4: I was like Okay, it's August eighteenth, back to school?
- 5:47Speaker 4: What's going on here?
- 5:48Speaker 2: This?
- 5:49Speaker 4: You're like sending me to school on a Saturday. This
- 5:51Speaker 4: makes no sense.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a little nuts, but I hear you. Mom
- 5:53Speaker 1: and dadd eat a break too. So everyone's back on sweel. Jada,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you're on the icepit a week ago for Body Armor
- 5:59Speaker 1: with Jason Robertson Luke Hughes. How was it those two
- 6:02Speaker 1: young stars again? Robertson's trying to bounce back to season.
- 6:05Speaker 1: He was looking for a new contract. I don't know
- 6:07Speaker 1: how much you want to divulge with your conversations where,
- 6:09Speaker 1: but just how are the vibes of those two guys.
- 6:11Speaker 2: No, it's pretty It's honestly a really cool I got
- 6:14Speaker 2: a funny story about Jason Robertson at the end, But
- 6:15Speaker 2: it's it's a cool commercial they're doing. I'd say it's
- 6:20Speaker 2: a YouTube. It's a YouTube video, and it's really cool
- 6:23Speaker 2: if the NHL is doing body Armor, and and you know,
- 6:26Speaker 2: it was the smartest thing of them to choose me
- 6:27Speaker 2: to go there to kind of host it because you
- 6:29Speaker 2: know I'll get the most out of them. Thank you,
- 6:31Speaker 2: Thank you, NHL. Appreciate it very smart, well done, but no,
- 6:36Speaker 2: it's we basically like talk to the guys. And Andrew
- 6:39Speaker 2: Ferren's kind of it was his kind of brain child
- 6:42Speaker 2: with a couple other people and he works with the league,
- 6:44Speaker 2: and we basically like asked the guys, hey, like, what's
- 6:48Speaker 2: your kind of What's three things you focus on on
- 6:51Speaker 2: the ice and then in the gym and how do
- 6:53Speaker 2: those things connect and translate? So it's it's really giving
- 6:56Speaker 2: like more access and more in depth to these NHL guys,
- 6:59Speaker 2: which I think fans love to see because it's a
- 7:02Speaker 2: different mind, Like you get to see inside the of
- 7:04Speaker 2: like Jason Robertson, Luke Ques what they think. Some of
- 7:07Speaker 2: the guys that we've interviewed are like, you know, they're
- 7:09Speaker 2: more like savants where they're like, listen, I don't tend
- 7:12Speaker 2: to think too much about certain things and I just
- 7:14Speaker 2: kind of feel into things and I feel into the
- 7:16Speaker 2: way I should be moving or working out. Then there's
- 7:18Speaker 2: other guys like Robertson where when this episode comes out,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I you know, he is so a analytical it's it's insane.
- 7:26Speaker 2: At everything single inch he thinks of on the ice
- 7:29Speaker 2: and where his feet are placed, where his sticky's place
- 7:31Speaker 2: and how he watches video to coincide with that. So
- 7:33Speaker 2: it was really cool in that respects and Luke Hughes
- 7:36Speaker 2: is more like just like I just you know, I
- 7:38Speaker 2: just play and I skate and I feel into it
- 7:40Speaker 2: and I just want to be an athlete. So those
- 7:43Speaker 2: things are really cool. It was a cool format. It
- 7:45Speaker 2: was a little touch and go when I did Jason
- 7:47Speaker 2: Robertson because like when we did that Pro Athlete Golf Tour,
- 7:51Speaker 2: like three weeks before, the Empty Netters guys had me
- 7:54Speaker 2: on and you know, I'd thrown a couple of cocktails
- 7:58Speaker 2: back and it was the end of the tournament and
- 8:00Speaker 2: we're just talking. You know, the empty and Edits guys
- 8:02Speaker 2: are great at kind of hosting their way through and
- 8:04Speaker 2: they get you to kind of say, shit, that's like
- 8:07Speaker 2: on the edge. And they were talking about Jason Robertson
- 8:10Speaker 2: being in these trade talks and he hasn't signed yet,
- 8:13Speaker 2: and should the Dallas Stars trade Jason Robertson, And I
- 8:17Speaker 2: was like, yes they should. I think his one hundred
- 8:21Speaker 2: point season was kind of a fluke, but I tied
- 8:24Speaker 2: it all together being like he's a great player. He's
- 8:27Speaker 2: a really good player, and I think he's you know,
- 8:30Speaker 2: I just think for what Dallas needs to get over
- 8:33Speaker 2: the hump, they could get some really good players for
- 8:36Speaker 2: him that would fill those other needs because I think
- 8:38Speaker 2: they have a lot of the same player, Jason Robertson
- 8:40Speaker 2: being the lead score of all of them. So what
- 8:42Speaker 2: do you think happens? They clip this video the empty
- 8:46Speaker 2: Netters guys. They put it on social media a week
- 8:48Speaker 2: before I'm there, so I look and they're like trying
- 8:51Speaker 2: to get me to collaborate, and it's like me, it's me.
- 8:55Speaker 2: The way they cut it, it looks like I'm like, Jason
- 8:57Speaker 2: Robertson's a piece of shit. So I'm like, oh my god,
- 9:00Speaker 2: I have to go do this. So I'm like, can
- 9:02Speaker 2: you guys take this down? So they ended up taking
- 9:05Speaker 2: it down, I think, or they probably didn't. So what
- 9:09Speaker 2: do you think happens? I show up to Michigan we
- 9:11Speaker 2: were filming where they practice, and the day before Andrew
- 9:15Speaker 2: Ferrens is like, hey, did you talk about Jason Robertson
- 9:19Speaker 2: and like a podcasts and I'm like, yeah, why, what's
- 9:23Speaker 2: for somebody else? I was like, yeah, I did, he goes, Oh,
- 9:25Speaker 2: he goes. I kind of heard it and He's like
- 9:27Speaker 2: you kind of buried him a little bit. He's like
- 9:28Speaker 2: you weren't wrong, but like you kind of buried him.
- 9:30Speaker 2: And I was like, all I said was like when
- 9:32Speaker 2: he had fifty goals, was like a couple of them
- 9:35Speaker 2: were off stick skates, and he's he's a thirty forty
- 9:37Speaker 2: goal scorer. But I think, like, you know, eighty ninety
- 9:40Speaker 2: point guy. So I show up to the rink on
- 9:43Speaker 2: the day we're skating. I walked to the rink and
- 9:46Speaker 2: Jacob chickering.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Before you say anything, tell if it's me. I completely
- 9:50Speaker 1: backtrack it. Roberts Goes just sound like, honestly, I'm an idiot.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I don't know. I was thinking of that day like
- 9:55Speaker 1: I would before he even says it. Word like I'm wrong.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Go ahead, j D. I think has no more it's
- 9:59Speaker 1: good in the game than me, But go ahead.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Jason Robertson will not be appearing on this podcast.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I clean it up without really backtracking, say here's what
- 10:09Speaker 1: I meant, but go ahead, go ahead.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Everything was prefaced by me saying I think he's a
- 10:14Speaker 2: great player, like I just it was it. It was,
- 10:17Speaker 2: but the way it was framed in the way obviously
- 10:19Speaker 2: it's cut and I you could. If I'm an if
- 10:21Speaker 2: I'm an athlete, I'd probably take it the wrong I go,
- 10:23Speaker 2: fuck you, like whatever. So I show up and they're
- 10:26Speaker 2: all skating. You know, it's like Nick Robertson, Jason Robertson,
- 10:30Speaker 2: Jacob Chickrien and they skate before we were filming with
- 10:33Speaker 2: him on the ice. So I know Jacob Chicken. I'm
- 10:36Speaker 2: really close to them, so I didn't even know he's there,
- 10:39Speaker 2: so I kind of I kind of screamed, hey, Chicky
- 10:41Speaker 2: and he's like, oh my god. So he skates over
- 10:43Speaker 2: first thing he says. He goes, hey, Jason Robertson's really
- 10:46Speaker 2: mad at you. I went no, It's like an hour
- 10:51Speaker 2: before we're shooting.
- 10:52Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, did you end up collaborating
- 10:55Speaker 1: on the ig or no? Yes?
- 10:57Speaker 2: Where well on the I g like, I didn't collaborate.
- 11:01Speaker 2: This is Oh no, I didn't because I'm not going
- 11:03Speaker 2: to call attention to it.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I'm gonna call away.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Yeah. I'm just like I kind of told him to
- 11:07Speaker 2: take it down and and we'll get the empty netters
- 11:09Speaker 2: guys on. Maybe they'd love to come on and h
- 11:12Speaker 2: and uh and and talk with us, so they'll probably
- 11:15Speaker 2: you know anyway. So so I go, oh shit. So
- 11:19Speaker 2: I'm like, hey, I didn't mean anything. But he's like yeah,
- 11:21Speaker 2: he was like playing it in the room like like yesterday,
- 11:25Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh fuck. And I'm like, here it
- 11:27Speaker 2: is this and this hasn't happened to me since I've
- 11:29Speaker 2: been in broadcasting and stuff because I kind of told
- 11:32Speaker 2: the line well and I try to yeah, because I
- 11:36Speaker 2: understand what it was like. And and I mean there
- 11:38Speaker 2: are some guys that I'm like, I'll never run into.
- 11:40Speaker 2: So I'm just like, you know, here's my honest opinion.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So he comes on. So he kind of like comes over,
- 11:47Speaker 2: and he comes over and I was like, you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I'm just like I'm like, hey, man, like are you
- 11:52Speaker 2: mad at me? I'm like, are you passed?
- 11:54Speaker 1: He's like, no, dress off of the room.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He's like no, He's like no, all good. He's like
- 11:57Speaker 2: all good, all good. So it's like very but it's
- 11:59Speaker 2: like very kind of a little stand office, and I.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Got doesn't feel it all good. Like it feels like so.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Kind of everybody now is on like pins and needles,
- 12:08Speaker 2: Like the producers are like holy fuck, and like Andrew
- 12:11Speaker 2: Ferrens is like Jesus and I'm like, hey, man, like
- 12:13Speaker 2: I'll address it. So he kind of was like a
- 12:15Speaker 2: little bit like standoffish, and you know, I was like,
- 12:19Speaker 2: oh shit, So I'm like and then you gotta be
- 12:20Speaker 2: on camera. I gotta be like, hey, I'm here with
- 12:23Speaker 2: superstar Jason Robertson. So so we do the intro and
- 12:27Speaker 2: then it was kind of like a light switch and
- 12:29Speaker 2: we started you know, it's for kids and for youth athletes,
- 12:32Speaker 2: and I mean, he was amazing, Like he just kind
- 12:34Speaker 2: of got into depth about talking about analytics and how
- 12:37Speaker 2: he's pissed off that he doesn't get the respect he
- 12:39Speaker 2: deserves through analytics because you know, he might not be
- 12:44Speaker 2: the fastest on paper or stuff like that. So and
- 12:46Speaker 2: we had a great conversation. We did a great job.
- 12:48Speaker 2: He did an amazing job. I think it's gonna be
- 12:50Speaker 2: probably the best, the best episode out of the four.
- 12:55Speaker 2: And he was just great. And then you know, it
- 12:57Speaker 2: was kind of like hey man, congrats, good luck, and
- 13:00Speaker 2: see you after and he was gone. But it was
- 13:02Speaker 2: like I'm like, oh no, oh, now, well listen, you
- 13:05Speaker 2: did top backtrack from your words. You just said we're good,
- 13:08Speaker 2: and he say, yeah, we're good. You're like, okay, whether
- 13:10Speaker 2: we are or not, let's just go ahead and do this.
- 13:12Speaker 2: He was a total prong camera, which you were as well.
- 13:14Speaker 2: To me, that's about as good as it could have gone. Yeah,
- 13:17Speaker 2: it's good other than us having like a beer and
- 13:18Speaker 2: going out and so and then going on. I just
- 13:21Speaker 2: think is as good as it could have went. But
- 13:23Speaker 2: I wish he had.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Only said a little bit of what he was annoyed by,
- 13:25Speaker 1: but were good, like, yeah, I just didn't what you said.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Then you'd be like, okay, Like, let's be honest. You're
- 13:29Speaker 1: a little chap like that.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That's I'm an air Yeah, yeah, I'm an airing agreements
- 13:33Speaker 2: this guy.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You go, okay, I totally got dude, Like I hear him.
- 13:35Speaker 1: It is my perfective. I did see you're a great player.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I do think a lot think just my thought all good,
- 13:40Speaker 1: Like just just make the point and then we're totally fine.
- 13:43Speaker 2: As you know, having working with me, right, And I
- 13:47Speaker 2: won't sit on camera, but I will air grievances if
- 13:49Speaker 2: they need to be aired. And but I'm just like,
- 13:52Speaker 2: it's not from a place of hate, it's just a
- 13:54Speaker 2: place of hay, let's get this all out there.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yep.
- 13:57Speaker 2: And let's get it. Let's get it, let's get it out.
- 14:00Speaker 2: Just air the dirty, launch it. But yeah, he But honestly,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I when I left, I was like and I said
- 14:06Speaker 2: bye to him, and I was like, hey man, I
- 14:07Speaker 2: got a newfound respect for you. And I kind of
- 14:10Speaker 2: was like I hate Crow, Like I had to eat
- 14:12Speaker 2: Crow live in color and just be like this is it.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Like I was like, I was wrong, and I really
- 14:19Speaker 2: do respect who he is as a player more.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I don't know if you wrong. You were, You didn't
- 14:24Speaker 1: ever you said he's a great player. You're just saying
- 14:25Speaker 1: you can make a move, that's all. So I don't
- 14:27Speaker 1: even think you ate Crow. I think you just said
- 14:28Speaker 1: he's great. I just think a move would be beneficial,
- 14:30Speaker 1: that's all.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Jason robertson over one hundred points next to your Bookhet.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Bucket Demurs motivated demurs. In effect, it makes me think
- 14:39Speaker 1: about a couple of things. One, you know, I asked
- 14:41Speaker 1: Joe Buck once time years ago for advice, and he said,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you know, the best advice is dad Jack Buck gave
- 14:45Speaker 1: him because you know, it's a hard sport, it's a
- 14:48Speaker 1: hard game, and that doesn't mean you have to like
- 14:50Speaker 1: kiss their ass. But if you're going to be critical, like,
- 14:53Speaker 1: you'd better have some backup. So if you say, demurse
- 14:56Speaker 1: stinks out there, you know, okay, but you better know
- 15:00Speaker 1: what you're talking about, Like, you better be at minus
- 15:02Speaker 1: five and you like have proof that he was looking this.
- 15:04Speaker 1: If you just like this guy sucks, like you better
- 15:06Speaker 1: back it up because, as you said, these guys know
- 15:08Speaker 1: how hard it is. There's this many people in the
- 15:11Speaker 1: world that can do what they're doing. So if guy's
- 15:14Speaker 1: a tough night, it's seven a tough night. I wish
- 15:15Speaker 1: you could better. So, like as you said, you're fine
- 15:17Speaker 1: about towing the line. Your job is to be critical,
- 15:19Speaker 1: to be honest and say he needs me better in
- 15:21Speaker 1: this department. He's a better player than that. But it
- 15:23Speaker 1: is a stark reminder someone's always listening. And my thought
- 15:26Speaker 1: was always this, Jason Robertson has better things to do
- 15:28Speaker 1: than listen to Jason Dumurr's on empty netters. But the
- 15:32Speaker 1: entourage of Jason Robertson will get it too. So a cousin,
- 15:35Speaker 1: a brother, Adam, a friend, that's the guy that goes, hey, yo,
- 15:37Speaker 1: just you know this guy says some shit about you,
- 15:39Speaker 1: You go, oh shit.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Well, that, you know, like Adam Fox's dad like does
- 15:42Speaker 2: not like me apparently, cause I because I said again,
- 15:49Speaker 2: the line is towed. And I say, guys in the
- 15:53Speaker 2: league said they like playing against Adam Fox in the playoffs,
- 15:56Speaker 2: and I said that it's not a knock on Adam Fox.
- 15:58Speaker 2: That's a knock on the New York Rangers not getting
- 16:00Speaker 2: a guy to protect him. What does the Rangers do
- 16:02Speaker 2: this year? They go get gabrick Off, perfect compliment to
- 16:06Speaker 2: Adam Fox. I think Adam Fox has a bounce back here,
- 16:09Speaker 2: but his dad heard it. Dad thinks I'm a piece
- 16:12Speaker 2: of shit. Adam Fox's dad apologies. I'm sorry.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Well this year, Jason Robinson, Adam Fox coming soon an
- 16:18Speaker 1: NHL and script. I think it's gonna happen. Let's just
- 16:20Speaker 1: stay positive. The good vibes are coming. Great story though
- 16:22Speaker 1: about you, guys talking together. Been two weeks since Frank
- 16:25Speaker 1: Naser signed a seventy year, forty six million dollar extension
- 16:28Speaker 1: to playing just fifty three games the Blackhawks. Plenty of
- 16:31Speaker 1: buzz around this deal falls the trend of young players
- 16:33Speaker 1: getting major term very early. Owen Power seven years, fifty
- 16:36Speaker 1: eight point four five million Buffalo when he was twenty
- 16:39Speaker 1: your Ice left Cosky's signing his eight years sixty million
- 16:42Speaker 1: with the Habs, Jackson Blake eight year forty five Last season,
- 16:46Speaker 1: UTUH gave Dylan Gunther eight years fifty seven million for
- 16:49Speaker 1: playing seventy eight games, and the big suscension could be
- 16:51Speaker 1: coming soon for Connor ber Dark. What do you make jd.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Young guys cashing in big the term and the dollars.
- 16:58Speaker 2: And it just means I played in the NHL before
- 17:01Speaker 2: I should have because you know, you're looking at that
- 17:04Speaker 2: your deal a lot more that potential. But it's just
- 17:07Speaker 2: things have shifted now, you know where it's a young
- 17:09Speaker 2: man's league. You're paying for potential. Now you're not paying
- 17:13Speaker 2: for You're not paying for what a kid has done.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Now you know, you know, Frank Naser has played about
- 17:19Speaker 2: fifty six games, Like that is crazy to me to
- 17:23Speaker 2: expect to get that amount of money after fifty six games.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But they obviously, whether they're right or wrong, the Chicago Blackhawks,
- 17:30Speaker 2: they see potential. They think that this will end up
- 17:34Speaker 2: becoming a bargain because that's what you're typically doing as
- 17:36Speaker 2: a team, as you'll be like, well, if I give
- 17:37Speaker 2: him this much money, by the time the contract reaches maturity,
- 17:41Speaker 2: will be in a good place, the salary cap will
- 17:43Speaker 2: go up, We'll be fine. And that's what you do
- 17:45Speaker 2: with the youth guys. Now it's not so much approve
- 17:47Speaker 2: it league anymore. I think there are still levels of
- 17:51Speaker 2: that for players, but you know, the young prospects don't
- 17:54Speaker 2: have to prove as much. They just have to kind
- 17:56Speaker 2: of show that there is potential and there is a
- 17:59Speaker 2: ceiling to get to and then you know, I listen,
- 18:01Speaker 2: I'm all for guys getting paid. I know my player,
- 18:04Speaker 2: he's like, fuck this guy. But the taking a step back,
- 18:09Speaker 2: I think it's great for the league. And it's also
- 18:13Speaker 2: it's a lot lower risk for teams to do this
- 18:17Speaker 2: versus pay guy that's twenty six twenty seven pay him
- 18:20Speaker 2: an eight year deal, because you don't know if by
- 18:22Speaker 2: the time the guy hits thirty thirty one, you know, injuries,
- 18:26Speaker 2: he really falls off a cliff.
- 18:28Speaker 1: It's that's what I want to ask you. How much
- 18:31Speaker 1: damage is a cost as team if your ice left
- 18:33Speaker 1: costka ends up being a bust, if he's not an
- 18:35Speaker 1: eight million dollars a year player, if he's a four
- 18:38Speaker 1: million dollars year player, how damaging is that in terms
- 18:41Speaker 1: of the cap, in terms of giving that much term
- 18:42Speaker 1: to that guy for that long.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Well, it's it's it can be. But I feel like
- 18:47Speaker 2: teams will take the exit, and I think other teams
- 18:50Speaker 2: are still you look at Zegres in Philly.
- 18:53Speaker 1: You can you can flip a guy. Yeah, you could.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Still get a trade because people still think, well, there
- 18:58Speaker 2: is the potential there. He can still play out his contract.
- 19:02Speaker 2: He's got a couple of years left on it, and
- 19:04Speaker 2: if he doesn't perform, we just resigned him to a
- 19:06Speaker 2: cheap deal. So there's still that level there where it's
- 19:09Speaker 2: like you haven't out and I think teams recognize that
- 19:12Speaker 2: if now you know you look at myself. You know
- 19:15Speaker 2: I got signed to a five year deal and teams
- 19:20Speaker 2: that I'm thirty three, thirty four, and teams are like, well,
- 19:23Speaker 2: I don't want to take a flyer on this amount
- 19:25Speaker 2: of money because if it does work out, I'll just
- 19:28Speaker 2: let this contract play out, let this team eat it,
- 19:31Speaker 2: and sign him to a PTO and then if he
- 19:33Speaker 2: makes his way back, then it's great for me. And
- 19:35Speaker 2: it's even cheaper versus a young guy. You're like, well,
- 19:38Speaker 2: I can still get this guy. He's still got eight
- 19:40Speaker 2: nine years left of playing potentially, so this is also
- 19:44Speaker 2: a bargain in itself. So it just it just opens
- 19:47Speaker 2: the door for gms, I think, to be a little
- 19:49Speaker 2: bit more creative, and I think it's a way to circumvent,
- 19:53Speaker 2: you know, not paying the older guys and not getting
- 19:57Speaker 2: stuck with these long contracts when guys are thirty four
- 19:59Speaker 2: to thirty five and having to pay like the Rick
- 20:01Speaker 2: Dpa tros and having to pay guys for ten years.
- 20:03Speaker 2: It's just you just save yourself that trouble. So I
- 20:07Speaker 2: think it's a it's just a sneaky way of GM's
- 20:11Speaker 2: kind of circumventing the cap and finding a way to
- 20:15Speaker 2: you know, have the best team possible.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Yeah, like I said, if you're missing a guy, I
- 20:18Speaker 1: can always try to flip him, convince yourself a change
- 20:20Speaker 1: the scenery. He can be walking with someone. As that
- 20:21Speaker 1: does happen, a guy does need to can move on
- 20:23Speaker 1: somewhere else. Bruins lost and Patrice Burgraun mostly been raising
- 20:26Speaker 1: his family since playing his last game in Boston twenty
- 20:28Speaker 1: twenty three. He got fans buzzing online. Last week. Cortex
- 20:32Speaker 1: Hockey released a real Bergoun practicing face offs with Will
- 20:35Speaker 1: Smith of the Sharks and Alex Newhook of the Habs.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Anyone better these young guys could learn face offs from
- 20:41Speaker 1: and Patrice Berghum, do you seem at some point g
- 20:42Speaker 1: to being back in the league, maybe with the Bruins
- 20:45Speaker 1: coaching scouting something that have Patrice burs run back in
- 20:48Speaker 1: the HL. Well.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I saw him three weeks ago and we I kind
- 20:52Speaker 2: of asked him that question. So I was doing a
- 20:54Speaker 2: little journalistic work on top of all the other hats
- 20:57Speaker 2: that I wear. So and he, you know, right now,
- 21:00Speaker 2: he's just worrying about taking care of his kids. Uh,
- 21:03Speaker 2: he's around the rink. His wife is who's amazing, is
- 21:07Speaker 2: is also a you know, she's in school and finishing
- 21:12Speaker 2: up her masters. I think so he's kind of letting
- 21:14Speaker 2: her kind of chase down her dreams and then I
- 21:17Speaker 2: think he's eventually going to kind of slide back into it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: But he looks fantastic. He's he's like doing high rocks
- 21:24Speaker 2: those high rockses and training and could probably still play.
- 21:28Speaker 2: But I think he does have a taste for the
- 21:31Speaker 2: game and loves being around the rink. And a guy
- 21:33Speaker 2: like that will just if he ever wants to, he
- 21:36Speaker 2: ever wants to get a job anywhere. It'll be the
- 21:40Speaker 2: minute he says. Yeah, It's kind of like Joe Thornton,
- 21:43Speaker 2: you know, with San Jose. They just want him around
- 21:45Speaker 2: the rink in any capacity. So I can see him
- 21:47Speaker 2: being an advisor something like that in the next you know,
- 21:50Speaker 2: four or five years and eventually getting into the league.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Yeah, Hyena likes highly well liked. Still young enough. They
- 21:56Speaker 1: can relate to all these players, There's no doubt about it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Last thing before we get to our special guest, Tyson
- 22:00Speaker 1: Barry your Sharks giving away a special Maclin celebrity Will
- 22:04Speaker 1: Smith sleepover Bobblehead this season. If fans want to complete
- 22:08Speaker 1: the set, they can buy a special Tyler to fully
- 22:10Speaker 1: attachment guest of NHL and Scripted to add to the
- 22:14Speaker 1: limited edition Bobblehead. Jad In terms of Bobbleheads, just where
- 22:17Speaker 1: you at in general pro bobblehead, anti bobblehead. You see
- 22:20Speaker 1: these lineups for like a show, Hey a Tani Bibblehead.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Jason demurs Bablehead. I hope is in your home somewhere
- 22:25Speaker 1: wheread you have with the ball Bobblehead Craze.
- 22:28Speaker 2: I don't think I ever sniffed anywhere close to a
- 22:32Speaker 2: bibblehead anywhere in my life, Like, unless I sled you
- 22:35Speaker 2: a bit, wait, unless they want an Ali Baba myself.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I bought created a Jason Demurse bobble Yeah, I mean
- 22:42Speaker 1: I think for the top guys.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, you fans anything to to make a
- 22:47Speaker 2: little cash for the organization. I think fans will buy
- 22:50Speaker 2: it in droves. I don't like just a bobblehead night
- 22:53Speaker 2: every week, you know, I think that's just a little ridiculous.
- 22:56Speaker 2: But you know it's it's just little things that kids like,
- 22:59Speaker 2: and you know, parents buy for their kids their favorite player.
- 23:02Speaker 2: And I'm got indifferent to it. Honestly. It's like one
- 23:05Speaker 2: of those things that it doesn't really you know, doesn't
- 23:08Speaker 2: make my dick hard, but it doesn't make it soft either.
- 23:10Speaker 1: It's just that's the kind of expression I was opening
- 23:14Speaker 1: a boy, been thinking of bobble heads. But now we'll
- 23:16Speaker 1: always have that in my mind. I can't wait for
- 23:18Speaker 1: the next you know that was something like that. Yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 1: it doesn't make my dick, cart doesn't make it soft either, Like, well,
- 23:23Speaker 1: I can come see it comesaf What do you think
- 23:25Speaker 1: of this bobble had specifically, at least the innovative nature
- 23:28Speaker 1: of it celebrating Smith's sleepover. Do you at least appreciate
- 23:31Speaker 1: the thought process behind it or is it trying too hard?
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I listen, I can't say anything bad about the Sharks,
- 23:38Speaker 2: but it's a lot I just don't. Yeah, it's like
- 23:40Speaker 2: unless it's like unless there's only like ten of them,
- 23:44Speaker 2: you know, like collector's items. You want it to be
- 23:46Speaker 2: collector's items, right, So yeah, you know, I'm like tenn
- 23:49Speaker 2: of they'se you raffle them off. Half goes to charity, Uh,
- 23:52Speaker 2: the Sharks Foundation. You've had a big number, and you'd
- 23:55Speaker 2: probably sell more of them, you know, you'd sell them
- 23:57Speaker 2: for bigger, bigger numbers. Right then people have these collector's items,
- 24:01Speaker 2: if you know, Maclin celebrity and will Smith do what
- 24:03Speaker 2: we think they're going to do and just beat stars.
- 24:06Speaker 2: But yeah, otherwise it's kind of like just an interesting one.
- 24:08Speaker 2: It's like, I don't know, it's a little weird. Too young,
- 24:10Speaker 2: two kids that aren't legal sleeping over.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's a little bit like a broke Back Mountain type
- 24:15Speaker 1: bubble mack will Swiss sleep over bubbleief?
- 24:18Speaker 2: Do we not know? The kids? Not twenty one?
- 24:20Speaker 1: So it feels like.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Just a touch, yeah, just a touch of predatorial, yes,
- 24:28Speaker 2: so not that kind of pat and the older big
- 24:33Speaker 2: brother is in there as well, Tyler and.
- 24:35Speaker 1: The times at that part, it's just like third man.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I'm I'm not sure if that's necessary. It's a limited
- 24:40Speaker 1: edition where my mind goes and you know, that's just
- 24:44Speaker 1: like I said, I like producer tal has beat red
- 24:47Speaker 1: once again. Nor thoughts on baba, Tell do you collect baba?
- 24:51Speaker 1: You ever had a baba in your house? You must
- 24:52Speaker 1: have a cow was thinking of that Stefan babo head
- 24:54Speaker 1: meets before that time.
- 24:55Speaker 4: But something I don't actively collect them or anything like
- 24:58Speaker 4: that there. And listen, fans want to get something for free, right,
- 25:01Speaker 4: they're paying a lot to go to these games. They're
- 25:04Speaker 4: collect to bulls. Maybe if you're lucky, you'll get you'll
- 25:06Speaker 4: get your your celebrinee Will Smith sleepover bobblehead, you know, autographed.
- 25:12Speaker 4: I don't know. I think it's a nice touch. I think, look,
- 25:14Speaker 4: all these teams are trying to add a little value
- 25:17Speaker 4: to the overall experience, and this is part of the
- 25:19Speaker 4: way to do it. I think, you know, the sleepover
- 25:22Speaker 4: thing went viral for a little while last season. I
- 25:25Speaker 4: think they're they're trying to get that thing going again.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Who knows, maybe they'll do some more sleepover videos. I
- 25:31Speaker 4: have no idea what's going on with this, but it's
- 25:34Speaker 4: perfectly innocent. Come on, fellas. But yeah, I think it
- 25:37Speaker 4: looks cool. But I think if you're getting it, you
- 25:39Speaker 4: have to get the tyler to fully add on, it's
- 25:41Speaker 4: kind of pointless if you're not going out and paying
- 25:44Speaker 4: to get the addition.
- 25:46Speaker 2: The getting, The older gentleman added on, just what's.
- 25:51Speaker 1: The last what's what's an acceptable age for sleepovers? And
- 25:55Speaker 1: what age?
- 25:55Speaker 2: Are they not acceptable for my kids or for so
- 26:00Speaker 2: like your kid?
- 26:00Speaker 1: What's in a sleepover's age?
- 26:01Speaker 4: Like I have fun, buddy, my kids nowhere close to sleepover.
- 26:05Speaker 4: He's about to turn six. I'm about like twelve, maybe
- 26:08Speaker 4: twelve going over it?
- 26:09Speaker 1: Teenager? And at what point is it two? Always because
- 26:11Speaker 1: I have a sleepover?
- 26:12Speaker 2: My friend, you got a little on eighteen forty five?
- 26:17Speaker 2: Did you just have a sleepover recently?
- 26:21Speaker 4: I did not. I did not. I'm just that's just
- 26:24Speaker 4: the number.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Tell the body and they just had a sleepover. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: beg your pardon, like they have like a tree house.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I just got it together.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Question tell question for you what do you do with
- 26:34Speaker 2: the mic are you? Are you like touch auto muting
- 26:37Speaker 2: and unmuting yourself. That's the button right there. That's it.
- 26:42Speaker 4: That's the button. I don't know if you're if you
- 26:44Speaker 4: have the same model. It turns it's green when it's
- 26:46Speaker 4: it's green when it's on, and it turns red when
- 26:49Speaker 4: you when you touch it. That's what I've been.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Doing, folks listening the technology scary.
- 26:55Speaker 1: It dovetails perfectly the next topic because sadly my microphone
- 26:58Speaker 1: was not green when I touched it. The audio not ideal,
- 27:00Speaker 1: But you're gonna love this se interview. Nonetheless, Tyson Barry
- 27:03Speaker 1: is a terrific dude. He's got great stories from playing
- 27:05Speaker 1: with the Avalanche. Interesting story with the Leafs, Patrick Wad,
- 27:08Speaker 1: the oilers, all that more. Tyson Burry recently retired on
- 27:11Speaker 1: to his next adventures. It's coming up right after this
- 27:26Speaker 1: our next castwer is draft in the third round, sixty
- 27:28Speaker 1: fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche of the two thousand
- 27:30Speaker 1: and nine NHL Draft. He quickly turned into a standout
- 27:33Speaker 1: offensive defenseman, collecting five hundred and eight points in eight
- 27:36Speaker 1: hundred and twenty two games with the Avalanche. Maple leaves oilers,
- 27:38Speaker 1: petitors and flames before recently announcing his retirement. We're thrilled
- 27:42Speaker 1: to have him here. He's a very patient manager in
- 27:44Speaker 1: addition to being a terrific hockey player. Tyson Barry, good
- 27:46Speaker 1: to see you, buddy.
- 27:47Speaker 3: How you doing, Yeah, thanks for having me. I appreciate
- 27:50Speaker 3: you guys. Troubleshooting the last time.
- 27:53Speaker 1: We'll forever being dead. It's your patients for techo difficulties. Listen, man,
- 27:57Speaker 1: congrats are an awesome career. I know it's tough maybe
- 28:00Speaker 1: in some ways to reflect on everything. But what's it
- 28:02Speaker 1: been like for you since making that big announcement.
- 28:04Speaker 5: Well, it's honestly been been great.
- 28:07Speaker 3: You know, obviously very very grateful to have played in
- 28:10Speaker 3: the league as long as I did, but kind of
- 28:13Speaker 3: taking a load off and the initial announcement there was
- 28:16Speaker 3: a lot of you know, congrats and a lot of
- 28:20Speaker 3: really nice messages, a bunch of interviews to get through
- 28:22Speaker 3: and stuff, and then it kind of settled down and
- 28:25Speaker 3: really just kind of enjoying some downtime on the island
- 28:27Speaker 3: here and yeah, really it's kind of just chilling out.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Was it like a long decision because I know you
- 28:34Speaker 2: kind of joked that it was a mutual decision between
- 28:37Speaker 2: you and all thirty two teams. But was it something
- 28:39Speaker 2: that you had kind of been thinking about and did
- 28:41Speaker 2: you kick around maybe going to Europe and continuing to play,
- 28:44Speaker 2: or was it just you know, you felt it in
- 28:46Speaker 2: your bones that it was time.
- 28:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I think.
- 28:51Speaker 1: You know.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Obviously, last year free agency I didn't have much I
- 28:53Speaker 3: went on a Pieto to Calgary that obviously kind of
- 28:59Speaker 3: didn't go the way I would have liked it. So
- 29:01Speaker 3: about after I'd been health bomb for like ninety straight days,
- 29:04Speaker 3: I thought that retirement might be on the horizon. So
- 29:08Speaker 3: I had a good kind of runway to wrap my
- 29:10Speaker 3: head around it. I thought about going over to Switzerland.
- 29:13Speaker 3: There was a team that I was really interested in.
- 29:15Speaker 3: They decided to go a different direction, which was devastating,
- 29:19Speaker 3: but that's okay. And then after that I just kind
- 29:21Speaker 3: of thought, you know what, I'm just going to hang
- 29:24Speaker 3: them up. I got been very blessed to play a
- 29:27Speaker 3: lot of years and make a good living, and I've
- 29:29Speaker 3: got two young kids, and I just you know, I've
- 29:32Speaker 3: got a lot of other passions and interest outside of hockey,
- 29:35Speaker 3: So it was just kind of a natural, natural progression.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Hey, man. Definitely making the right decision. Tyson. Let's reflect
- 29:41Speaker 1: in your career obviously so many great moments. You know,
- 29:43Speaker 1: you're a key young player in Colorado. After you get
- 29:45Speaker 1: through the rest of that course is to come in McKinnon, Landiskog,
- 29:48Speaker 1: Ranton and mccarr who stuck out for you the most
- 29:51Speaker 1: when you were there.
- 29:51Speaker 3: In Colorado, like as people are players, because I either
- 29:56Speaker 3: I think as players. I mean I think if if
- 30:00Speaker 3: you've been watching following the game at all, McKinnon and
- 30:02Speaker 3: mccarr have been pretty good for the last round. No,
- 30:06Speaker 3: I mean, Nate's one of my best friends, lands Coogg,
- 30:10Speaker 3: Eric Johnson, really good people, Miko Granton and uh I play.
- 30:14Speaker 3: I mean I played with so many guys there and
- 30:16Speaker 3: so many good teammates. But yeah, just to watch kind
- 30:19Speaker 3: of Nate turn into a bit of a generational player
- 30:21Speaker 3: and Kale and you know what they've been able to do.
- 30:24Speaker 3: You know, they obviously hoisted one there and then individually
- 30:27Speaker 3: they've kind of collected it all.
- 30:28Speaker 5: So, uh, you know, really.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Grateful I got to start my career there and kind
- 30:32Speaker 3: of piggyback Nate to a couple of big seasons, And yeah,
- 30:36Speaker 3: I always always love going back to Denver, and I
- 30:39Speaker 3: feel like as a second home for.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Me to talk about, Like, you've played with so many
- 30:44Speaker 2: superstars and and you know, some would call him like
- 30:47Speaker 2: very you know, you talk about the Nates, and we
- 30:49Speaker 2: hear stories about Nate, how serious he is and and
- 30:52Speaker 2: how dialed in he is. And you're a very serious
- 30:54Speaker 2: guy on the ice and you're playing, but you're also listen.
- 30:57Speaker 2: You you joke, you're lighthearted. You you want to keep
- 31:01Speaker 2: things light in the room. So it's like, for you,
- 31:04Speaker 2: how did that always work? Coming in and dealing with
- 31:06Speaker 2: guys like that and making sure that you know you're
- 31:09Speaker 2: an integral part of that team as well, and those
- 31:11Speaker 2: teams because you're able to keep things light and keep
- 31:13Speaker 2: those guys not so serious.
- 31:17Speaker 3: I think Nate's obviously very detailed and super you know,
- 31:22Speaker 3: dialed when it comes to hockey, and there's a time
- 31:25Speaker 3: and a place for me for that. But the majority
- 31:27Speaker 3: of the time, I was just trying to keep keep
- 31:30Speaker 3: it light. And you know, I think you could laugh
- 31:34Speaker 3: or cry as kind of the saying, and I just
- 31:36Speaker 3: always chose to laugh.
- 31:37Speaker 5: And even when things.
- 31:39Speaker 3: Got a little bit I probably laughed sometimes when I
- 31:41Speaker 3: shouldn't have, But I think guys appreciate that, and it's
- 31:44Speaker 3: okay to you know, kind of find the humor in
- 31:46Speaker 3: most things and keep it.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Light coming in. You talked about Nate dog Like, you know,
- 31:51Speaker 2: talk about those teams early on when when Nate was
- 31:54Speaker 2: there and how he changed the vibe. And also just
- 31:57Speaker 2: you know who for you was somebody when you came
- 31:59Speaker 2: into the league that really helped you kind of get
- 32:01Speaker 2: your feet and teach you things that you might have
- 32:04Speaker 2: learned when you're in Colowna.
- 32:06Speaker 3: Yeah, two fold a question. I think I'll start with,
- 32:11Speaker 3: you know guys that kind of brought me in and
- 32:13Speaker 3: put me under the ring wing right away. Paul Stasney.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I had the chance to meet him when I was
- 32:19Speaker 3: like seventeen. He was golfing out on the island and
- 32:22Speaker 3: I went and had some beers with him and his
- 32:23Speaker 3: buddies and he was awesome. And then I got to
- 32:25Speaker 3: Colorado and he you know, invited me over to his house,
- 32:28Speaker 3: took me to the bar, was inviting me to dinner
- 32:30Speaker 3: and just kind of you know, Paul was a great
- 32:34Speaker 3: leader and he showed me how to operate, and you know,
- 32:37Speaker 3: he was always super hard working, dedicated at the rink,
- 32:40Speaker 3: and then away from the rink, it was you know,
- 32:42Speaker 3: good times and fun and so I'm always grateful to
- 32:45Speaker 3: STATS for that. And then Ryan O'Byrne, a local island guy,
- 32:49Speaker 3: he got traded from Montreal to Colorado, so he he
- 32:54Speaker 3: grabbed me right away, put me next to him on
- 32:55Speaker 3: the plane, and you know, he was a true pro,
- 32:59Speaker 3: but same kind of thing, you know, kind of taught
- 33:02Speaker 3: me how to have fun away from the rink and
- 33:03Speaker 3: be a part of the group and and be a leader.
- 33:06Speaker 5: So very grateful to those two guys.
- 33:09Speaker 3: I'd love to say I learned how to I'd love
- 33:11Speaker 3: to say I picked up a few things on the
- 33:12Speaker 3: ice from Ryano Burham, but I was, yeah, I still
- 33:16Speaker 3: don't look the other way to follow. Uh, you know,
- 33:20Speaker 3: Wolves is great. And then with Nate, I think Nate
- 33:24Speaker 3: came in he was raw. I met him when he
- 33:26Speaker 3: was seventeen and we roomed together his first year, and
- 33:30Speaker 3: you know, we both had lots to learn. Oh, And
- 33:33Speaker 3: I'd be remiss if I didn't say Ryan o' riiley
- 33:35Speaker 3: as well. He was he was the same age, but
- 33:37Speaker 3: he'd already been in there. Factor was already on the
- 33:40Speaker 3: on the team for two years when I came in,
- 33:42Speaker 3: so he was he felt like a veteran and he uh,
- 33:45Speaker 3: he was one of those guys that you know, we're
- 33:47Speaker 3: the same age. We were good buddies right off the hop.
- 33:49Speaker 3: We both love music and and a couple of pints.
- 33:51Speaker 3: So that was fast friends, easy cam. But yeah, Nate
- 33:56Speaker 3: was uh, you know, Nate was so good when he
- 33:58Speaker 3: got in, and you know, he and then we we
- 34:00Speaker 3: started to have a lot of fun, and I think, uh,
- 34:03Speaker 3: maybe a bit too much. He went away one summer
- 34:07Speaker 3: and came back and it was just dialed.
- 34:10Speaker 5: You know.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I think he put up ninety nine points the next year.
- 34:13Speaker 3: He just you know, just kind of flipped the switch
- 34:16Speaker 3: and something clicked where you know, he thought, I think,
- 34:18Speaker 3: you know, I can be a really good player. I
- 34:20Speaker 3: can be a great player. And he made that decision
- 34:21Speaker 3: and he hasn't looked back. So it's been a pleasure
- 34:25Speaker 3: to kind of watch his growth.
- 34:27Speaker 2: I mean, is it true Ryan Factor? I call him
- 34:31Speaker 2: Ryan Factor, but Ryan O'Reilly cares his guitar with him
- 34:33Speaker 2: everywhere he goes on the road. And I was privy
- 34:36Speaker 2: to a few of his his concerts, and.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Well, you took a few of his concerts.
- 34:41Speaker 2: I did I did. Yes, Yes, we had a couple
- 34:44Speaker 2: of nice ones though with him, right. And you know,
- 34:46Speaker 2: how what were some of the bands you guys bonded
- 34:49Speaker 2: over and still bond over because I know, of just
- 34:51Speaker 2: looking through your instagram, you're pretty tight with a few
- 34:54Speaker 2: that you know, the Lumineers and City and Color And
- 34:57Speaker 2: how did those kind of come to be? And how
- 35:00Speaker 2: fun is that, you know, musician athlete relationship that when
- 35:04Speaker 2: it happens, it seems to be these like bonds for life.
- 35:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yeah, me and me in factor, I think we both
- 35:10Speaker 3: just loved all kind of alternative rock right off the
- 35:13Speaker 3: hop and it was always going in the mornings in
- 35:16Speaker 3: the room, and you know, my morning jacket was a big,
- 35:19Speaker 3: big one. And like you said, City and Color and
- 35:22Speaker 3: Band of Horses and we would cut coffee just we'ld
- 35:26Speaker 3: always try to catch bands when they come through town.
- 35:28Speaker 3: It's such a great way to kind of like disconnect
- 35:30Speaker 3: from the grind of a hockey season, go out and
- 35:31Speaker 3: have a few beers and and catch a live show.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Was kind of our favorite thing to do. So yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 3: that made it. That made it easy. And then as
- 35:39Speaker 3: far as you know, like relationships with artists and stuff,
- 35:42Speaker 3: it's Uh, it's it's really cool because there's a lot
- 35:45Speaker 3: of similarities kind of between what they're doing and what
- 35:48Speaker 3: we're doing. There's a lot of differences as well with
- 35:51Speaker 3: as far as how much structure we have and stuff.
- 35:53Speaker 3: But I think if you're going to be in a
- 35:55Speaker 3: good band and a successful band and one that has
- 35:57Speaker 3: a bit of longevity, it's it's almost like being on
- 36:00Speaker 3: a team. So you need to kind of understand how
- 36:04Speaker 3: everyone operates and what makes them tick and and you
- 36:06Speaker 3: know what's gonna make your your show or your album
- 36:08Speaker 3: and the whole thing as good as it can be.
- 36:10Speaker 3: And there's a lot of bonding that goes on in
- 36:14Speaker 3: those conversations. And yeah, and then just I think also
- 36:17Speaker 3: a love of music and sports, and yeah, they're just
- 36:21Speaker 3: kind of normal people like we are so easy to
- 36:24Speaker 3: easy to have a few beers or a nice bottle
- 36:26Speaker 3: of wine.
- 36:26Speaker 1: With the girl by City in Color All Time, great
- 36:29Speaker 1: song by.
- 36:29Speaker 5: The way, fantastic tune. Yeah, Dallas, that's nice to have
- 36:34Speaker 5: you back.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Don't We're gonna edit this part out, so we're gonna
- 36:36Speaker 1: end up your saying that was gone, but I'm saying
- 36:38Speaker 1: the acoustic part and the fast part Dallas Green unbelievable song.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Well then they broke up, so the song is a
- 36:43Speaker 1: more of a heartbreak song regardless. Patrick wwat Tyson, I
- 36:46Speaker 1: want to ask about Patty Wah fiery emotional, Uh, Thomas
- 36:50Speaker 1: Sicky's got great story smith with the Islanders. What was
- 36:52Speaker 1: w like with you?
- 36:54Speaker 3: Uh?
- 36:55Speaker 5: Patty was. Patty was great.
- 36:56Speaker 3: I think his first year we won the division. Things were,
- 37:01Speaker 3: things were awesome. I mean we we had a really
- 37:03Speaker 3: good team, a really good goaltender Varley I think got
- 37:07Speaker 3: snubbed for the Vesna that year, but he was I
- 37:09Speaker 3: mean he was first Star and maybe fifty of our
- 37:11Speaker 3: games he was out of control.
- 37:14Speaker 5: We were we had a good team, but we weren't
- 37:16Speaker 5: that good.
- 37:16Speaker 3: We had a really good goalie and we could score,
- 37:18Speaker 3: and Nate was good and we had a really good
- 37:20Speaker 3: uh you know, chemistry.
- 37:22Speaker 5: The team really really bonded. Patty was. Patty was super passionate. Obviously.
- 37:28Speaker 3: I found him to be a really good motivator. He'd
- 37:31Speaker 3: get you fired up before games. And that first year
- 37:33Speaker 3: it was fun. You know, we were winning, we were
- 37:35Speaker 3: we were kind of rolling along. We'd he'd go down
- 37:37Speaker 3: to the lobby on kind of a green light night,
- 37:39Speaker 3: and he'd already be there with his duffel bag heading out,
- 37:41Speaker 3: so he kind of understood the program and let us
- 37:44Speaker 3: run a little bit, which was great. And then I think,
- 37:48Speaker 3: obviously we I think we lost to Minnesota that year
- 37:52Speaker 3: in the playoffs. I got a ruthless knee from Matt Cook.
- 37:55Speaker 3: He took a seven game beyond me. I was playing
- 37:59Speaker 3: good hockey, as you always are. Yeah, never played a
- 38:02Speaker 3: bad game ever. And then the next year, I think
- 38:05Speaker 3: we came in and the expectations were really high, you know,
- 38:08Speaker 3: which was a lot different than the year before. And yeah,
- 38:11Speaker 3: he started he started bagging us pretty good, and it was.
- 38:15Speaker 5: Let's say, it wasn't quite as smooth sailing.
- 38:17Speaker 3: As it was the year before. The the the practices,
- 38:22Speaker 3: you know, I don't think that first year, we you know,
- 38:24Speaker 3: the second half of the year, we were barely on
- 38:26Speaker 3: the ice. It was just play day off, play a
- 38:29Speaker 3: day off, and then it kind of became a play
- 38:32Speaker 3: lose a game, get on the line. Yeah. I got
- 38:36Speaker 3: a little weird there the years two and three, and
- 38:38Speaker 3: then I think he saw the writing on the wall.
- 38:40Speaker 3: We weren't very good, so he kind of he pulled
- 38:42Speaker 3: the pin on himself and.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Then the worst team of all time we put together.
- 38:48Speaker 3: So I really liked Patty, though I think we uh,
- 38:52Speaker 3: I'm not surely loved my game all the time.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Needless to say, I don't. I didn't love his coaching
- 38:58Speaker 5: all the time.
- 38:59Speaker 3: So as a as a guy, he was great to
- 39:04Speaker 3: around with and a really good motivator, and I appreciated
- 39:07Speaker 3: my time I spent with Patty.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Listen, speaking of coaches that are great motivators, I mean,
- 39:12Speaker 2: you had a little touch with Mike Babcock in twenty nineteen,
- 39:16Speaker 2: you go to Toronto, I mean, and then also that year,
- 39:18Speaker 2: you know, it's the COVID season, So talk a little
- 39:21Speaker 2: bit about that change going from Colorado, which you know,
- 39:24Speaker 2: I consider Colorado that like medium sized market just because
- 39:28Speaker 2: of the success they've had now. But you know, Toronto
- 39:31Speaker 2: is just a different world. And how was that? You know,
- 39:34Speaker 2: obviously just sitting in with Mike Babpok and that Toronto
- 39:37Speaker 2: team that you know, it was a little bit of
- 39:39Speaker 2: a helter skelter year there.
- 39:41Speaker 5: Yeah, for all was a weird one.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I mean, that was my first first trade, which is
- 39:45Speaker 3: always tough to kind of you know, you play somewhere.
- 39:48Speaker 3: I was almost five hundred games in Colorado, and then
- 39:51Speaker 3: you know, you get dealt and it's all flipped on
- 39:53Speaker 3: its head. So I come in and I wouldn't say
- 39:57Speaker 3: it was a soft landing for sure. I kind of,
- 40:00Speaker 3: you know, I had a meeting with Babs and he
- 40:01Speaker 3: kind of told me Morgan Riley was here and I
- 40:04Speaker 3: here and he and he wasn't sure what he was
- 40:06Speaker 3: going to do with me. And that was my one
- 40:08Speaker 3: of my first meetings with.
- 40:09Speaker 2: Them, and I was the best conversations ever.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I called my dad after I said, hey, I'm
- 40:13Speaker 3: in one. My god, Well, sure enough, it didn't that's
- 40:20Speaker 3: I'm not going to sit here and bag on Babs.
- 40:22Speaker 3: I think that's happened a lot over the last little while.
- 40:26Speaker 5: But yeah, it was.
- 40:28Speaker 3: It was a tough transition. But I mean, I love
- 40:30Speaker 3: the guys in Toronto. What a great organization. They treat
- 40:33Speaker 3: you like gold. I made some you know, friends for
- 40:35Speaker 3: life there, and the coaching change happened. I started to
- 40:38Speaker 3: play a little better hockey and and got some got
- 40:41Speaker 3: some looks, and then COVID hit and shut us down
- 40:43Speaker 3: and then we went into that weird bubble and the
- 40:46Speaker 3: Toronto year was eventful, really really eventful. Year, but you
- 40:52Speaker 3: know it was it was fun to be a leaf.
- 40:54Speaker 3: And I think a lot of people still you know
- 40:57Speaker 3: know who I am because I was a leaf for
- 40:59Speaker 3: one weird year, So it's it's cool.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Yeah, sometimes it happens that way, Tyson. This is kind
- 41:04Speaker 1: of a random question, but I remember, you know, when
- 41:06Speaker 1: your dad partnered with Orring Coolish course land Burier dad
- 41:08Speaker 1: to buy the Lightning the year before you were drafted.
- 41:11Speaker 1: And I remember if the whole Barry Melros experience haven't
- 41:13Speaker 1: worked at es Pandean Barry Melris a bit like it's
- 41:15Speaker 1: very rare and only coaches get fired, players get traded,
- 41:18Speaker 1: and you just took the high road. Things happen to
- 41:19Speaker 1: move on. But like Melars was so blunt, it's just like,
- 41:22Speaker 1: I don't care. I'll never coach again. I'll work with
- 41:24Speaker 1: those guys. That was obviously something that stuck out. But
- 41:27Speaker 1: what do you remember from that experience, any advice that
- 41:29Speaker 1: your dad gave you?
- 41:32Speaker 3: Loaded He's always given me lots of advice, Very very
- 41:36Speaker 3: grateful for my dad's hand he's had in my career.
- 41:39Speaker 3: He's been super supportive, gave me every opportunity and coached
- 41:42Speaker 3: me all through minor hockey and then you know, kind
- 41:44Speaker 3: of guided me through junior and obviously him buying a
- 41:47Speaker 3: team while I was in junior was an interesting, interesting
- 41:52Speaker 3: path that was kind of made waves. But yeah, I
- 41:56Speaker 3: remember he was he owned the team when you know,
- 42:00Speaker 3: I was drafted and he called me from the draft
- 42:02Speaker 3: for and said, hey, I just like, I know you
- 42:05Speaker 3: told me not to pick you, but like, I'm here
- 42:07Speaker 3: with all of our scouts. You're the next guy on
- 42:09Speaker 3: our list, Like, let us take you. That's pretty cool
- 42:13Speaker 3: that yeah, yeah, it was like late second round. He's like, hey,
- 42:16Speaker 3: Tyst like, I'm not it has nothing to do with me.
- 42:18Speaker 3: You're the next guy on our scouts list, like, and
- 42:21Speaker 3: I said that, I'm like, please, please do not take me.
- 42:24Speaker 3: I'm like, I am, I worked really hard and I
- 42:27Speaker 3: think I'm close, Like please just like let me do
- 42:29Speaker 3: this on my own.
- 42:30Speaker 5: And so they didn't take me.
- 42:32Speaker 3: And then I went, you know, maybe eight picks later
- 42:35Speaker 3: or something to the abs. But yeah, that was a
- 42:38Speaker 3: that was an odd time for sure. There was a
- 42:42Speaker 3: lot of moving parts in that one.
- 42:45Speaker 2: How was it being in the room with Peter Warrel?
- 42:48Speaker 2: Was it? Oh? Yeah, something that was.
- 42:51Speaker 5: Was all time.
- 42:52Speaker 3: When I was a young young guy in Florida. I
- 42:55Speaker 3: pretty much lived at the rink with my dad and
- 42:58Speaker 3: he was awesome to me. He'd picked me up and
- 43:00Speaker 3: throw me in the laundry machine and he was just great,
- 43:02Speaker 3: a lot of fun to be around.
- 43:06Speaker 1: It's interesting when you look back at your career and like,
- 43:08Speaker 1: you know, certain memories of players you played with. We
- 43:10Speaker 1: focused a lot of the guys that you were with
- 43:12Speaker 1: and stories like that. But Tyson, for you, like, what's
- 43:14Speaker 1: a memory that will always stick out? Something unforgettable. It
- 43:17Speaker 1: doesn't have to be a goal or assist. Perhaps it
- 43:18Speaker 1: is like, what's a moment that you you know what,
- 43:20Speaker 1: that's something I can always take pride and that I
- 43:22Speaker 1: can sleep well.
- 43:23Speaker 5: At night, you know what I think.
- 43:25Speaker 3: It's honestly, it's it's just as simple as my I
- 43:27Speaker 3: remember my first NHL game and then how nervous I
- 43:30Speaker 3: was played the Blackhawks when they were on an absolute heater,
- 43:33Speaker 3: they had all the big dogs there. I was so nervous.
- 43:36Speaker 3: I didn't calm down the entire game. But after the
- 43:39Speaker 3: game I went to dinner, a late dinner with my
- 43:43Speaker 3: parents in Denver, and it was just kind of like
- 43:46Speaker 3: I'll always remember that feeling, you know, like I made
- 43:49Speaker 3: it and it was really cool. My parents were really proud,
- 43:51Speaker 3: and it was just, you know, there was the very
- 43:54Speaker 3: beginning of the journey and something that will stick with
- 43:57Speaker 3: me and just kind of that, you know, you know,
- 44:01Speaker 3: I did it, and there was one game or whatever.
- 44:03Speaker 3: I didn't know what was in stores still, but it was.
- 44:05Speaker 3: It was just that first time playing in the NHL
- 44:08Speaker 3: was very substantial.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Did it. You know, I'd say a lot of the
- 44:15Speaker 2: memories were shared. I was kind of looking through your stories.
- 44:18Speaker 2: You and Leon were kind of dry citle, we're messing around.
- 44:21Speaker 2: I think Leon probably did one of the best congratulating
- 44:26Speaker 2: guys retiring I've ever seen with you, I mean talk
- 44:29Speaker 2: about Leon playing with him. I mean, you once said
- 44:31Speaker 2: one of the funniest things I've heard in the league
- 44:33Speaker 2: is you were like, and I think Leon was there
- 44:35Speaker 2: when I had this small tryout in Edmonton. You were like,
- 44:40Speaker 2: Leon's probably one of the best players in the world
- 44:42Speaker 2: when he's on, and you're probably one of the worst
- 44:43Speaker 2: players when you're off. And just your relationship with him
- 44:48Speaker 2: and how you kind of pushed each other.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I love Leon. He's got an incredible
- 44:54Speaker 3: sense of humor. Obviously, we don't need to talk about
- 44:57Speaker 3: how good of a player is it was, It's pretty evident.
- 45:01Speaker 3: But yeah, he can, I mean he is, he can
- 45:04Speaker 3: is he can be the best player in the world
- 45:06Speaker 3: one night and then he can just lay one of
- 45:08Speaker 3: the biggest eggs you've ever seen.
- 45:09Speaker 5: And and well, the thing.
- 45:10Speaker 3: I love about it most is he'll when he's not
- 45:13Speaker 3: feeling it because some of the plays he makes that
- 45:16Speaker 3: make him the best or you know, they're the backhand,
- 45:18Speaker 3: no looks through the slot, they're the they're high risk
- 45:20Speaker 3: and they I mean credit to him. More than often
- 45:23Speaker 3: they work out. But when he is not feeling it,
- 45:25Speaker 3: he is not not trying those plays. He's going to
- 45:28Speaker 3: continue to throw backhands up the middle that are gonna
- 45:30Speaker 3: get back to.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Yeah, imagine we're not feeling it tonight, up the middle
- 45:35Speaker 2: every time.
- 45:36Speaker 3: Up the gut, up the gut, turnover, turnover. No, it's
- 45:41Speaker 3: it's fun to be able to joke with him, and
- 45:42Speaker 3: then you know his I love his approach. When he
- 45:44Speaker 3: does lay an egg like that, he you know, gets
- 45:46Speaker 3: on the plane or whatever and opens a beer and
- 45:49Speaker 3: just has a laugh, moves on and next night he
- 45:51Speaker 3: goes out and him and Connor have six points combined
- 45:53Speaker 3: or something stupid.
- 45:54Speaker 5: So, yeah, Leon's a really good pal of mine.
- 45:57Speaker 3: He's a he's a great a great player and a
- 45:59Speaker 3: guy with a great sense of humor.
- 46:01Speaker 5: So it's nice to uh, nice to be able to
- 46:03Speaker 5: poke at each other a bit.
- 46:04Speaker 1: Speaking of having a beer, what can tell us about
- 46:06Speaker 1: chili ones? Oh, I can tell you.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Yeah, let me ruthlessly plug it.
- 46:10Speaker 3: No, it's just chili ones is an idea that came
- 46:15Speaker 3: from just that's what we called beers when I was
- 46:17Speaker 3: in Colorado. It's what we call beers in Edmonton. Kind
- 46:19Speaker 3: of took on a life of its own, and Edmonton
- 46:21Speaker 3: guys were just screaming chili ones at each other before
- 46:24Speaker 3: the game and just dumb stuff like that. So I
- 46:26Speaker 3: just put it in my notes, it'd be fun to
- 46:28Speaker 3: do a beer with my friends called chili ones and
- 46:31Speaker 3: drink our own beer. And we kind of did it.
- 46:34Speaker 3: So I think there's about eighteen active and former NHL
- 46:38Speaker 3: guys in on it, and it's a lot of fun.
- 46:41Speaker 3: I'm really enjoying the beverage industry. Every meeting starts with
- 46:45Speaker 3: the beer, ends with a beer. Everyone's generally happy, so
- 46:48Speaker 3: it's right up my alley.
- 46:50Speaker 2: Yeah, how you have eighteen guys on board? How long
- 46:52Speaker 2: have you How long have you been? How long did
- 46:55Speaker 2: you start it? Ago? Yeah, guys, how long ago did
- 46:57Speaker 2: you start it? And where are you at with it?
- 46:59Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 46:59Speaker 5: Hanging there.
- 47:00Speaker 3: I go there about two years ago, kind of like concept.
- 47:06Speaker 3: It was pretty quick to get it into a can
- 47:07Speaker 3: and get the I had a pretty good idea of
- 47:10Speaker 3: what I wanted it to look like. And we've been innovating,
- 47:14Speaker 3: you know, the last six months or so, doing some
- 47:16Speaker 3: different things, just kind of finding our feet in the
- 47:19Speaker 3: beverage industry. But yeah, it's it's been about two years
- 47:23Speaker 3: and we're about to launch kind of a bigger launch
- 47:27Speaker 3: in Alberta, BC, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and we're running some pretty cool.
- 47:34Speaker 5: Campaigns with some cool people that I won't announce yet.
- 47:37Speaker 3: But yeah, we're doing a lot of stuff on the
- 47:39Speaker 3: non out side too, which is great.
- 47:40Speaker 2: It's me, so just you guys know, it's me. What's uh,
- 47:43Speaker 2: what's been the most challenging thing about this You've seen
- 47:46Speaker 2: that's like kind of just you were like, oh shit,
- 47:48Speaker 2: I didn't even know this.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Would Oh there's a there's like a oh shit moment
- 47:52Speaker 3: every day on the business side, I am. I got
- 47:55Speaker 3: my grade twelve and it was sort of handed to
- 47:57Speaker 3: me because I was a good hockey player, So I
- 47:59Speaker 3: am not. I don't have a college degree or anything
- 48:03Speaker 3: like that. So I'm learning the business side of things.
- 48:06Speaker 3: But the surprising thing I think is just you know, people,
- 48:09Speaker 3: you have to have the right people. It's not it's
- 48:10Speaker 3: not any different than I think building a winning team.
- 48:12Speaker 3: You've got to have the right people in place. And
- 48:16Speaker 3: you know, we've gone through some changes of people, which
- 48:19Speaker 3: has been interesting for me, So I think the business
- 48:23Speaker 3: world is a little more cutthroat than i'd realize. So yeah,
- 48:26Speaker 3: it's yeah, yeah, just learning, you know, not to trust everybody.
- 48:31Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean I've been building a business for two
- 48:33Speaker 2: years as well, and it's exactly all those things. We
- 48:36Speaker 2: weren't mood lighting as ves. Oh and I gotta deal
- 48:41Speaker 2: with av every day, so building that shit is is difficult,
- 48:44Speaker 2: dealing with people, but you can't just rely on you know,
- 48:47Speaker 2: making a breakout pass and having a good game. It's
- 48:49Speaker 2: it's a lot more. It's not as black and white
- 48:51Speaker 2: as hockey, I find. But speaking of other skills, I mean,
- 48:55Speaker 2: you weren't mood lighting as a CEO, but you also
- 48:58Speaker 2: weren't moodlighting as a skateboard efficient on. Yeah, so tell
- 49:02Speaker 2: me about that. You picked that back up A couple kickflips,
- 49:05Speaker 2: a couple, allis what's going on there? I thought you'd
- 49:08Speaker 2: just be a finger skateboard guy, but it Yeah.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I was a big tech decker back in
- 49:12Speaker 3: the day, but no deck. I grew up skateboarding.
- 49:16Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 49:16Speaker 3: I grew up skateboarding, snowboarding, you know, wakeboarding, all that
- 49:20Speaker 3: kind of stuff. Was that was honestly my favorite thing
- 49:22Speaker 3: to do. And hockey got serious, so I did kind
- 49:25Speaker 3: of tuck it away. And over the years, I've always
- 49:29Speaker 3: wanted to skateboard, and I just never have. I've never
- 49:32Speaker 3: allowed myself to own a skateboard because I know that
- 49:34Speaker 3: I would probably break my ankle or do something stupid.
- 49:37Speaker 3: So upon retirement, I immediately grabbed a skateboard because I
- 49:42Speaker 3: miss it and I love it, and yeah, it's fun
- 49:45Speaker 3: to mess around a little bit without like the the
- 49:48Speaker 3: overarching theme of if you hurt yourself, you're probably in one.
- 49:52Speaker 3: So yeah, I'm just kind of going to do some
- 49:55Speaker 3: things that are a little more high risk that I
- 49:57Speaker 3: haven't been able to do.
- 49:57Speaker 5: The last fourteen years.
- 50:00Speaker 1: We just found your next sports venture, skateboarding.
- 50:02Speaker 3: This is the next frontier, right, Yeah, I'm not exactly
- 50:05Speaker 3: like I don't have the build for the five ten
- 50:07Speaker 3: two ten isn't exactly the ideal skateboarder build.
- 50:10Speaker 5: So I'm just gonna, i think, have some fun with it.
- 50:12Speaker 5: I'm gonna get up in the mountains do some snowboarding.
- 50:14Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm I'm probably a little heavy to take
- 50:18Speaker 3: skateboarding anywhere and a little old. But I did get
- 50:21Speaker 3: in the gym the last two days, so I'm tightening.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Yeah, it's still looking great. Tyson Barrier, this was a
- 50:26Speaker 1: ton of fun, man, Seriously, congrats and a wonderful NHL career.
- 50:29Speaker 1: You're a great storyteller, obviously a great guy, and I
- 50:32Speaker 1: appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit along with the self deprecation. Nothing
- 50:35Speaker 1: wrong with a grade twelve education. I see bright things
- 50:37Speaker 1: ahead for Chili ones and skateboarding and all the rest
- 50:39Speaker 1: of it. Again, congratula in your family having two little ones.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Like you said, it's good to have your priority straight.
- 50:44Speaker 1: Thanks so much, dude, really appreciate it.
- 50:45Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks for having me. Thanks Shady, appreciate it.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Guys, all right, PINCHASKI you're on the clock. I read book.
- 50:58Speaker 2: Your book.
- 50:58Speaker 1: You gotta read mine. Centophile is now out available wherever
- 51:01Speaker 1: bookstores are selling it. You can go online Amazon to
- 51:04Speaker 1: Mango Publishing Group dot com. Quite frankly, I get more
- 51:06Speaker 1: money from there, So please go to Mango Publishing Group
- 51:08Speaker 1: dot com. You don't go to Amazon.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Law.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I'll appreciate that. Bezos will appreciate those dollars coming his way.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Barnes and Noble chapters back Home, North of the Border chapter.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Nothing like a little book tour. I think I've done
- 51:19Speaker 1: about nine podcasts now, and I got to tell you,
- 51:21Speaker 1: like my friends have come through. Ryan Rosillo is the
- 51:23Speaker 1: Tim Kirschens. I reached out the Buster only said Ya'll
- 51:25Speaker 1: have you on Dan Lebutard this week. David Samson. Everyone's
- 51:28Speaker 1: were really good. But sometimes a rando is surprise you, JD.
- 51:30Speaker 1: I've had more than a few guys just be me
- 51:32Speaker 1: and I'm like, listen, if you want me in your podcast,
- 51:34Speaker 1: if you buy the book, if there's proof of purchase,
- 51:36Speaker 1: you have me. So I did one guys yesterday it
- 51:39Speaker 1: was okay. I was like, I don't he bought the
- 51:41Speaker 1: book because he was on his on the shelf. Maybe
- 51:43Speaker 1: ask My wife said, maybe he'll return it. That could
- 51:44Speaker 1: be true, but the questions are like very broad. It
- 51:47Speaker 1: was kind of like, hey, have you seen Happy gil
- 51:49Speaker 1: Moore two? And I'm like, no, I haven't. No, Like
- 51:52Speaker 1: I think if you know me and my movies, I'm
- 51:54Speaker 1: not rouses happy to go more too. No, He's like, oh, man,
- 51:56Speaker 1: Sailor's awesome. I go met him once, super nice guy,
- 51:59Speaker 1: Love uncut Gems. I'll tell that story. I said. He
- 52:02Speaker 1: was at the screening for it. My buddy Ben Lyons
- 52:04Speaker 1: Sadler walked around efforts. I told him, man, I love
- 52:06Speaker 1: Punch Drunk Love, which is kind of my way saying
- 52:08Speaker 1: I'm not a big fan of yours because everyone else
- 52:09Speaker 1: mentions the water boy Billy Madison, and I'm like, yeah,
- 52:11Speaker 1: I don't like that stuff. I like this stuff when
- 52:13Speaker 1: you're different, like you actually acted with Paul Thomas Anderson.
- 52:15Speaker 1: So I love Punchrick Love and on cut Jimps is
- 52:17Speaker 1: a great movie. Benny Saftie comes around the director and
- 52:19Speaker 1: I go, hey, man, how have a movie. You're a
- 52:20Speaker 1: real tyg It's got one thing is yeah, I go,
- 52:22Speaker 1: there's what a mistake in the movie. He's like what
- 52:25Speaker 1: face already turning white? And Ben lines like, you can't.
- 52:27Speaker 1: I know, I'm going, I said. Sandler goes upstairs and
- 52:30Speaker 1: he comes downstairs. He's watching the NBA game. He goes, say,
- 52:32Speaker 1: I put ESPN back on. I go, it's a Western
- 52:35Speaker 1: Conference game. That's TNT. It's Kevin Harlan's voice. He literally
- 52:38Speaker 1: pulls the phone out and like, here's the time going
- 52:40Speaker 1: to watching the thousand and Ben's gonna be like, why
- 52:43Speaker 1: did you say this? Like I work at the Pin,
- 52:45Speaker 1: I'm Tonney right now. There's no like Eastern Conferences like
- 52:48Speaker 1: you know, Celtics, Cavs, Mike Driek. I'm like Western's always
- 52:50Speaker 1: going around SAFTI sees his like, ah fuck fuck, it's
- 52:56Speaker 1: like this guy just said the premiere. But Jemps, you ruined.
- 52:58Speaker 1: I didn't ruin this night. He can fix it. He goes,
- 53:00Speaker 1: I don't think he can.
- 53:01Speaker 2: He was.
- 53:01Speaker 1: This is not one of those fixing postings. They go,
- 53:03Speaker 1: they can fix that. They didn't fix it, and somebody
- 53:05Speaker 1: did pick it up. So where they did give me credit,
- 53:07Speaker 1: They go, Adnamberg was the person that noticed blah blah
- 53:09Speaker 1: blah blah. Anyways, happy come more to I didn't see
- 53:11Speaker 1: But one guy was great though Chills with Will podcasts.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I gotta thank him, dude. He read the entire book.
- 53:16Speaker 1: The interview was awesome. He was like, hey, page two
- 53:18Speaker 1: twenty one, Deckloge, I go, now, this is what I'm
- 53:20Speaker 1: talking about. When I had an aufor on, I made
- 53:22Speaker 1: sure I read the book. When somebody actually does the
- 53:24Speaker 1: prep work, it's so nice. So I want to just
- 53:26Speaker 1: say thank you to Frank Thanking all the people out
- 53:28Speaker 1: there who had bought the book and enjoyed it, and
- 53:30Speaker 1: a few people I have strong armed at work. They've
- 53:32Speaker 1: done it. I appreciate them taking it along the way
- 53:34Speaker 1: as tal Will as well as first in the f
- 53:36Speaker 1: on sixty f one watchually with my wife my sister
- 53:41Speaker 1: in law again, as I said to him, like they're
- 53:42Speaker 1: just gonna watch it for Brad Pitt being shirtless, which
- 53:44Speaker 1: is okay. I can get over that. My wife fell
- 53:47Speaker 1: a seeve after about thirty minutes, just a lot punted
- 53:49Speaker 1: about halfway through we started that maybe, I mean we
- 53:52Speaker 1: were in San Jose, so it's probably I don't know,
- 53:54Speaker 1: ten thirty, but we were on West Coast time at
- 53:56Speaker 1: that point, and as my sister law was leaving on
- 53:58Speaker 1: what do you think so far? She's like, Eh, I go, yeah,
- 54:00Speaker 1: I really don't like these movies. I said, you know,
- 54:02Speaker 1: there's just so formulaic. I said, it's fine. I go,
- 54:05Speaker 1: I'm enjoying the experience. I'm going to watch it kind
- 54:07Speaker 1: of like as JD SAIDs a good popcorn movie, but
- 54:09Speaker 1: I can't call it a good movie. Like to me,
- 54:10Speaker 1: I'm like, I've seen this movie so many times. Veteran guy,
- 54:13Speaker 1: young guy, he's cocky, love interest, different accents, different people,
- 54:16Speaker 1: different nationalities, And the main thing I have when I'm
- 54:19Speaker 1: watching it, you know, rad pits such a talented actor,
- 54:22Speaker 1: and how have you ever been such a talented actor.
- 54:24Speaker 1: They're just just clearly taking a paycheck like it's fine.
- 54:27Speaker 1: I guess if that's life these days, nobody gives a
- 54:28Speaker 1: shit about movies. You're gonna give you ten million dollars
- 54:30Speaker 1: in Go. But I'm like, even the driving scenes you did,
- 54:32Speaker 1: because I would have said, oh, you know, the driving
- 54:34Speaker 1: scenes will be awesome, and they're well shot, well done,
- 54:36Speaker 1: but they're so choreographed in that it's like POV shot,
- 54:40Speaker 1: watch POV shot well, Like I could already cut it
- 54:43Speaker 1: the way I know they're gonna cut it like, it's
- 54:44Speaker 1: just so that I did not get to run watching
- 54:47Speaker 1: Driven as you had suggested to see what a copy.
- 54:49Speaker 1: But please please tell me what is the scene in
- 54:51Speaker 1: F one that's completely ripping off Driven, because then I'll
- 54:53Speaker 1: go look it up.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Well, it's it's the last scene and when they ask
- 55:00Speaker 2: him like, hey, like when everything's kind of working for you,
- 55:03Speaker 2: Yeah what and he goes, there's like a silence in it,
- 55:07Speaker 2: and then oh yeah yeah, and then Driven and then
- 55:10Speaker 2: Driven it's he goes when he starts humming. It's when
- 55:13Speaker 2: he's in the flow state. And at the end of
- 55:16Speaker 2: the movie when he goes to like win or you know,
- 55:21Speaker 2: finished second third, whatever you want to do it, it's
- 55:23Speaker 2: that same setup where he starts humming and like, oh
- 55:28Speaker 2: my god, he's back. And then with Brad Pitt, it's
- 55:32Speaker 2: like the same thing he has. It's seen where like
- 55:34Speaker 2: all of a sudden he locks in that's a perfect lap.
- 55:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, he's flying. Is that like perfect lap? And
- 55:40Speaker 2: that's just where it was. I mean, the whole thing
- 55:43Speaker 2: is very deriven derived from that. Well yeah, derive derived
- 55:49Speaker 2: from that last one. And I just kind of was like,
- 55:52Speaker 2: it's fun, it's exciting. I love Hans Zimmer the score
- 55:56Speaker 2: was good. I'm glad you Hans Zimmer is is my guys.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Looks beautiful like you can.
- 56:01Speaker 2: It's a popcorn movie, like I said, was I wrong?
- 56:04Speaker 1: No, but I'm glad you boot of the theaters to
- 56:06Speaker 1: see it, like tal her bullshit, like got I get
- 56:07Speaker 1: out there. I'm like, hey, I'm glad of I just
- 56:09Speaker 1: I've got my sister WI up eight twenty bucks. We've
- 56:10Speaker 1: watched Rentic because I go I wouldn't have been happy
- 56:12Speaker 1: watching the theaters.
- 56:13Speaker 2: I started. I started watching Eddington.
- 56:16Speaker 1: What do you think?
- 56:17Speaker 2: Oh? I love the way it shot. I love it.
- 56:20Speaker 1: We're in let's go good antidote to the summer blockbusters,
- 56:24Speaker 1: A good covid believe to pissed people. Offer the liberal
- 56:29Speaker 1: jokes you're gonna love.
- 56:30Speaker 2: It's hilarious. The best part of it is the Black
- 56:32Speaker 2: Lives Matter sequence. I'm like, oh my god, oh my god,
- 56:35Speaker 2: what was it? The anti white or the you can't
- 56:39Speaker 2: say anti whiter. Anyway, when we looked at the reviews,
- 56:42Speaker 2: it was like two point eight and I kind of
- 56:45Speaker 2: look at my wife and I'm like, I guarantee you
- 56:47Speaker 2: it's it's like people that watched it that are like
- 56:52Speaker 2: pissed off at you know, the liberal the jokes at
- 56:57Speaker 2: the left side. But they make fun of both sides,
- 56:59Speaker 2: make fun of the right just as much as they
- 57:00Speaker 2: do the left.
- 57:01Speaker 1: That's why I love South Park, Bigger, Longer, Uncut movie.
- 57:04Speaker 1: They took as many shots as the left at the right,
- 57:06Speaker 1: but like they're like, that's that's Shit's hilarious. Look, we're
- 57:10Speaker 1: just going after Altar.
- 57:11Speaker 2: If they're both, it's all. It's all the sickness both sides.
- 57:14Speaker 1: As you said to me, once you go, they all
- 57:15Speaker 1: watch your money, and I go, that's.
- 57:19Speaker 3: That.
- 57:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it.
- 57:20Speaker 1: That's why George Carlin was the best, because I don't
- 57:22Speaker 1: like any group of more than three because because then
- 57:24Speaker 1: they get a hat, then they get a button. They
- 57:26Speaker 1: all want you to be on their siding. Is now
- 57:28Speaker 1: I'm not George carl in the classic iconic class tell.
- 57:31Speaker 1: I did see How I to Lowest. I thought it
- 57:32Speaker 1: was terrific. I really enjoyed it. I was so happy
- 57:34Speaker 1: to see a Spike Lee joint back in theaters again.
- 57:37Speaker 1: Was busy with the fam vacation, et cetera. But I said, no,
- 57:39Speaker 1: I'm not waiting to Apple. Plus, I want to support
- 57:41Speaker 1: movies in theaters, so the movie is gonna be out
- 57:43Speaker 1: this weekend on Apple Plus. I was able to get
- 57:45Speaker 1: out to the Regal and Seacaucus, eight minutes from where
- 57:48Speaker 1: me and JD worked to.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Watch the movie.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I thought I had spikes visual panache to it. I
- 57:52Speaker 1: thought Denzel was terrific. It was so good to see
- 57:54Speaker 1: the United I'm with you completely on New York as
- 57:56Speaker 1: a character. You know, Darren aaron Oski's in the new
- 57:58Speaker 1: movie out, Which'm going to try to see cott stealing.
- 58:00Speaker 1: I mentioned to the scimitar for Maddie Leebatique, who was
- 58:02Speaker 1: shot reckon for a Dream. He did Spike's latest, so
- 58:04Speaker 1: he can definitely sense Aaron offs He spiked both great
- 58:07Speaker 1: New York directors. The set piece, as I told you,
- 58:09Speaker 1: my favorite part was that whole Yankee Stadium trip, which
- 58:11Speaker 1: you had mentioned when Turro Yell's the camera Boston sucks
- 58:14Speaker 1: beautifully shot again like in the Krusawa version. That's like
- 58:17Speaker 1: a real centerpiece movie. So I'm glad the way that
- 58:19Speaker 1: Spike was able to re envision it. It's a little long.
- 58:22Speaker 1: I would have edited a little bit differently, but I
- 58:25Speaker 1: thought overall it was an enjoyable film, and it's nice
- 58:27Speaker 1: to see a great actor director team up again. Good
- 58:30Speaker 1: supporting cast. Jeffrey rd I always loved man. He's fantastic.
- 58:33Speaker 1: Denzel's wife. Wow, he's doing well for himself, both on
- 58:36Speaker 1: Cameron off and I thought overall it was definitely an
- 58:39Speaker 1: enjoyable movie. It didn't. One of my friends a little
- 58:41Speaker 1: bit harsh on it. He goes, I couldn't get over
- 58:43Speaker 1: to the fact teal. He goes, this guy supposed to
- 58:45Speaker 1: be like a Barry Gordy music impressario. I'm like, yeah,
- 58:48Speaker 1: just the plot real simple for everyone.
- 58:49Speaker 2: He goes.
- 58:50Speaker 1: He thinks his son gets kidnapped, but instead it's his
- 58:53Speaker 1: friend's son who's kidnapped, and he's faced with this moral dilemma.
- 58:56Speaker 1: Should he put up seventeen point five million dollars and
- 58:59Speaker 1: basically risk his own empire because he's trying to make
- 59:02Speaker 1: a takeover, he's not liquid at the time, etc. Close friend,
- 59:05Speaker 1: et cetera. But like, where's the world a little bit? Lie?
- 59:07Speaker 1: My buddy said to be Tally goes, this guy is
- 59:09Speaker 1: an F seventeen and a half million dollars, like around
- 59:11Speaker 1: if you're that rich, And I said, wow, I don't.
- 59:13Speaker 1: He's a music executive was once big. He's not as
- 59:15Speaker 1: big as he once was. Did you have any issue
- 59:17Speaker 1: with that?
- 59:17Speaker 4: Well, first off, spoiler alerts for anyone listening, obviously, But well,
- 59:22Speaker 4: I think part of part of that is because he's
- 59:25Speaker 4: and this is in the first minutes well forty five maybe,
- 59:28Speaker 4: but yeah, I see what you're saying. But I think
- 59:31Speaker 4: the reason he hesitates is because, remember, he has like
- 59:34Speaker 4: this big business deal that he's trying to close, right,
- 59:37Speaker 4: and he's kind of like leveraging all his assets in
- 59:41Speaker 4: this one big business deal, and then he has to
- 59:44Speaker 4: fork over a ransom for a kid that's not his kid.
- 59:48Speaker 4: And yeah, so I think they're that that that's why
- 59:51Speaker 4: there's that interesting dilemma that he faces there. Yeah, I
- 59:55Speaker 4: didn't mention Jeffrey right before when I talked about he's great.
- 59:58Speaker 3: I did.
- 59:58Speaker 4: I don't know if I've seen has he been with
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Denzel and anything before? I thought they were so good together,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: as like their buddies, right, their buddies from like back
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: in the day, who has to maintained their friendship for decades,
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: And they were excellent together.
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: I really like them totally.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I remember you saying that you thought that your buddy
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: who sought with thought that Spike made some interesting choices.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I wanted to guess which one of them is, because
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: I for this to be quote an interesting choice, which
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: is a negative way of saying crazy about it. A
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: lot of orchestral music, particularly in the first forty five minutes,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: was that what he was talking about, because I was like, man,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: you got to tone down the score a little bit.
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: His words were literally in the middle of the movie,
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: this score is killing me, he said. But Spike does
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: that a lot. You'll see he has a lot In
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: a lot of his films, he has these huge orchestral
- 1:00:39Speaker 4: numbers that suddenly come in. You're like, I don't know
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: if this is the right time for I mean, you know,
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: if you really want to get into the weeds and
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: you want to put your movie nerd hat on. I
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: sometimes you hear it like, I don't know if this
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: is the right time for a big, sweeping orchestral number.
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: It just doesn't quite fit. But Spike does that a lot.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: He's clearly a big fan. And I thought it was
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: the same composer, but it turns out it's not. It's
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: this composer on highest to lowest. I think it's his
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: first time working with Spike, so yeah, I.
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: Will say again spoiler alert asap. Rocky is really good
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: in the film. I thought that scene Tala is probably
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: my favorite scene when they go a little monoy monol
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: there in the recording studio.
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: It's fantastic.
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: By the way, you mentioned Jeff Right Denzel worked together
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: in The Manchurian Candidate in two thousand and four, but
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: this is the first time they worked together, and Spike
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: and Denzel first time since Inside Man back in two
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: thousand and six. I would say he got game is
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: definitely better. But this was definitely an enjoyable film and
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: I definitely.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Think people will check it out on the Shuttles.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Jesus Solver awesome. Denzel really going out him in that
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: basketball game. At the end, he said he worked for
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: like months, like he was like, I'm not gonna let
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Ray Allen towards you, and he kept telling Yal, I'm
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: not very good going to my left, and first thing
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: he went to his left up the basket and then
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: he had another hoop and round was like, okay, it's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: fucking on it because Denzel was not supposed to get
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: any baskets. And then Roy Allen took him for the
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Winds set at Denzel. I'm getting a couple of baskets
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: of this kid, Graham Green, real quick, great Cadan actors,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: seventy three years of age. You know, one of the
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: great indigenous actors, the guy really putative American and Native
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Canadian actors on the map, was brilliant and dances with wolves,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: reservation dogs, etc. Just wanted to give a quick shut
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: to him. Great, terrific Meadian actor passed me a season.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Some posts there, but some of us were particularly obviously,
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: like I said, dances with wolves great, great chemistry with
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: Kevin Coster. All right, you know my doppelganger Chris Jellios
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: on Instagram. Great pick the post, as tal puts, it
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: was a little bit cryptic. Now I know you are
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: a man of a thousand interests. You've talked about your
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: burgeoning businesses. You've talked about having interests away from the
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: game while still being very connected to hockey, NHL network, etc.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: But as you posted something special, it's been cooking for
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: over a year. Amazing to finally filmed the pilot. Big
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: things to my idea writing part Jillian Miller. Of course,
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: your wife for helping envision this big things to my
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: musing partner, the chef's name Chris say I believe for
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: jumping in head first age Yes, amazing work by Banner
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Studios helping throughout this whole process. And the special things too,
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Chris Chellio's for being a test dummy for this madness.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: His tequila's absolute fire should be flying off the shelves.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: As I immediately posted, happy to help.
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: What can you tell me? This an amazing post too,
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: because it's so funny how I like, I completely forgot
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: and then as soon as I'm like, oh my god,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: I can't get away from bad Denver.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: No.
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: I kind of wrote this. Came up with this idea
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: kind of when I a little bit after I retired,
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: just on the creative side of things, I wanted to
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: kind of merge food in sport, which it is such
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: a big part of it, but also just more specifically
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: around pregame meal. I think pregame meal is something every
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: athlete eats. I know, it's something every athlete eats, and
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: it's such a big part of the fuel that kind
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: of drives the ship, so to speak, in your game
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: and how good of a game or bad of a
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: game can hinge on what you're eating, whether you're fatigued,
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: brain fog. It's all tied to food. And my friend
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: Chris Sage, who is just an amazing chef in La
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: we met during COVID. Just after COVID, he came and
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: did like a big home He does these like Michelin
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: star meals at your house. So I had a bunch
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: of the guys on the team come. He flew in
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: cooks in your kitchen. We stayed connected. I said, hey,
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: I want you to be a part of this. I
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: want to take guys pregame meals and elevate them. And
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: then as we're elevating them and you're making this amazing
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: pregame meal that's like worthy of a Michelin Star, you know,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Dish one star, two stars, two stars, whatever you come
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: up with. And we're just going to talk to the
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: athletes about kind of food in their life and food
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and sport and how it's evolved, how their pregame meals evolved.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: So we had Chris Chillio's came on and it was
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: really cool. It's just you know, like I'm really into
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: getting layers to athletes and because I always consider myself,
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: it wasn't what defined me. It's it's what I did.
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: And I think anytime I can talk to guys about
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: their other interest it really gets me excited because it's
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: just like I just think it's something that fans don't know,
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: and they know it's for this specific thing that we do,
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: which is which is hockey baseball. But the thing that
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: people don't realize is once it's over, it's such a
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: tiny you know. I had somebody say the other day,
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: it's just a grain of sand in an hour glass,
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: and it's one grain of sand. Your professional sports career,
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: the rest of your life. Two thirds is what's important,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: all of your other things, your interests, your family. So
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: we just kind of touch on that and touch on
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: guys is you know, how food relates to their life.
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: And it was really good. It was really fun. Something
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: we kind of put together, Me and my wife and
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: I kind of came up the idea and just kind
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: of was shopping it around and we got Chris Chillios
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: and now we're trying to kind of put a sALS
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: a real together and maybe create a series on either
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: YouTube or or sell it somewhere. So it's just we
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: also don't want to do just NHL. We're trying to
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: do all sports, you know.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: I love it. Pilets in the cans seeking distribution. Hopefully
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: more coming soon.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and I would.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: I always think it's fascinating because, like with athletes just said,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: you know, there's such well conditioned people and they're so
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: fixing in certain things and can be not hypochondriacs, but
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: certainly creatures of habits. So I'm with you, like and
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: the way that it's evolved that they could be fascinating.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: I think if you talk to like former athletes, you
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: know what they ate back in the day and how
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: it's changed and what it's like. It's constantly evolving, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: as you said, it's more than just food. It's also
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: the other interests, et cetera. It's hope you love to
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Ian Hap, one of our favorite guests because he's asked
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: as a podcast, loves coffee. Like as you said, everyone
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: has more interests and some guys are not as willing
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: to divulge like everyone. I interviewed Connor McDavid, like he
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: clearly is more than Connor McDavid, but like he just
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: wants to talk hockey, and I'm like, I get that.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: Certain guys just don't want to divulge any of their life.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Dog's wife fix whatever your interests are, Like, no, I'm
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: just want to talk hockey. That's and the hockey answers
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: were fine. But some guys, I think, like you said,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: in certain venues are happy to discuss or other interests,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: other pursuits. And food's a big part of it, man,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: like you're fuel. If it's on, there's a big reason why.
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: It's part of your success.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: And if it's off, you shit yourself. What happens to Bava,
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: which I've done before.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Look forward to more uh more of those episodes hopefully
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: coming down the pike. Last one. Tampa Bay Lightning mascot
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Thunderbird recently spotted throwing down against a little kid in
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: a youth hockey game. You got to hang out one
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: of the NHL's best mascots, I think in Sharky. Any
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: favorite memories of Sharky.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: I mean anytime anytime like a mascot, like you start
- 1:07:26Speaker 2: talking with him or you know, you're just on the
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: side and you're like, hey, how you doing, and they're
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: just like, oh fucking exhausted. The human side of that, Yeah,
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: it's so funny to me and being like, how you
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: doing in there.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: The raptor's basket. We're having a conversation. His helmet, for
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: lack of a better term, is off and we're talking
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: just stick in the hallway exactly saying, oh yeah, wife
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: drenched and sweat. I'm like, yeah, it doesn't sane what
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: you're doing. Like you're just like, you know, flying off trampolinees,
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: dunking basketballs while dress is a dinosaur, like a modern
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: day Barney and as I feel like he's a christicles
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: to have a smoke and just start talking about he's
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: gonna hit the strip club. It's like, oh hey, I
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: gotta go, like because then a kid is gonna be
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: around the corner. Like the scariest thing to these guys
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: is being seen with a thread petrify.
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: Did did you see the Orgon Ducks mascot the Oregon
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: Ducks one? Just recently he came out of the tunnel
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: and fell and his helmet popped off for the opening
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: and he's he's just like he's like he looks like
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: he's covering himself with secret service so like he doesn't
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: get sniped running back into the tunnel because like, oh
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: God forbid that.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: I've asked if you're like the ballgame, but.
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: It's it's just so funny. It's that is an interesting one,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: an interesting thought of actually interviewing some of those guys,
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: but like while they're in costume and just having like
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: an in depth interview with talking about his life growing
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: up and we'll cut you into being a mascot and
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: oh yeah, and the Cardinals sense because you're right, like
- 1:08:57Speaker 2: they take that off. People don't realize they are pissing sweat.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Oh it is so hot. They're running around. I'm like,
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: that is such a demanding job for one hundred bucks
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: a game.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: That's that's the other person. They're getting dirt, Like these
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: guys are not getting Some get a lot though some
- 1:09:11Speaker 1: of them. The Philly fanatic has to be rich. The
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: San Diego Chicken of course back in the day. And
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: the one that I think is like totally loaded is
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: the gorilla with the Phoenix Suns, because that guy's unbelievable.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: Oh yeah, he does flips back flip.
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: Not playing in the league, He's gonna be at least
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: in the de league.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: This guy's he could be in the deal League easily, right.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: I'd rather be the gorilla man behind the mask well
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: unmasked the Gorilla. Next time, perhaps HL unscripted. Thanks for
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: hanging it out. Thanks for j D and Teal for
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: their patients in my audio. Thanks to Tyson Berry for
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: his patience. Thanks to all of you for listening. Lots
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: more coming down the pike. Look forward to chatting next time.
