- 1:26Speaker 5: Yes, a little fill in action.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:28Speaker 5: I felt like holiday feeling enough for.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Saturday than the week holiday fill in host.
- 1:32Speaker 6: That's when bar shines.
- 1:34Speaker 5: We were five star recruits coming out of high school.
- 1:36Speaker 5: We had all American careers in college. We're used to
- 1:39Speaker 5: making good plays. Why we actually we never made a
- 1:42Speaker 5: good play before. You know, it was like a fine line.
- 1:44Speaker 5: I don't want to like squash the coffer.
- 1:48Speaker 6: We have a good time, right, Can we say something
- 1:49Speaker 6: positive for Can we talk about the WIE receivers a
- 1:51Speaker 6: little bit.
- 1:52Speaker 5: You can talk about whatever you want.
- 1:54Speaker 3: I love jelly donuts, but I find them two decadent,
- 1:57Speaker 3: so I don't need them.
- 1:58Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for
- 2:03Speaker 1: deals by a Toyota dot com.
- 2:07Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday here
- 2:11Speaker 3: at j Let's Stadium, and it's Paul and myself holding
- 2:14Speaker 3: down the fort until Evan gets here and Deuce gets
- 2:17Speaker 3: here from the locker room and practice and everything that
- 2:20Speaker 3: they've got going. We got Matt and the booth. We
- 2:22Speaker 3: had Gerrad Mayo with his press conference. Today is weekly
- 2:25Speaker 3: Wednesday press conference. We'll talk about that because I didn't listen,
- 2:29Speaker 3: but Paul did. Uh but uh, you know, not breaking news.
- 2:33Speaker 3: But they announced the twenty five finalists for the Hall
- 2:35Speaker 3: of Fame and is semi finalists three point five Patriots
- 2:39Speaker 3: on their semifinals.
- 2:41Speaker 5: Technically, if you want to get really technical, there are
- 2:43Speaker 5: seven guys that had Patriot of ties highs in some
- 2:47Speaker 5: way to the Patriots. But yeah, you're right, it would
- 2:49Speaker 5: come down to Vince will Fork and and Adam Vinit Terry.
- 2:52Speaker 5: You know really, but you got you know, Fred Tyler, Uh,
- 2:56Speaker 5: we got Fred Taylor, that's right, Roddy. So three three
- 3:00Speaker 5: you know Fred Taylor, James Harrison, you know guys that
- 3:03Speaker 5: actually played for the team.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Yeah, they were here.
- 3:06Speaker 5: But then you have like Reggie Wayne and Tory Holts. Yeah,
- 3:08Speaker 5: they kind of really didn't play for the team. They
- 3:10Speaker 5: were here in camp for a brief period of time.
- 3:12Speaker 5: But yeah, yeah, so it was Harry.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I think I would say of the entire list, i'd say,
- 3:18Speaker 3: Vinitarry to me, is my my biggest.
- 3:20Speaker 5: Lock, your biggest lock. I think that's probably a bit
- 3:23Speaker 5: of a stretch really, you know. As a kick, I
- 3:25Speaker 5: mean I think he should be in. I mean I think.
- 3:29Speaker 3: If any kicker should be in, it should be him.
- 3:32Speaker 5: Yeah. I think the argument would be, where do we
- 3:34Speaker 5: rank kickers as compared to tackles quarterbacks?
- 3:38Speaker 3: And I put punches and kickers in the same category, right, Ray, guys.
- 3:42Speaker 5: In no, Adam Van Terry belongs in the Hall of Fame, right,
- 3:46Speaker 5: I don't think there's an argument, but it's I'm asking
- 3:50Speaker 5: if you think he goes over. I don't even know
- 3:53Speaker 5: who Luke Keigley or all the other guys that are
- 3:56Speaker 5: on the list, Rodney Harrison, Vince wils.
- 3:58Speaker 3: No, but I'm but kind of to me, like, if
- 4:01Speaker 3: you dominated in your era at your position, you should
- 4:05Speaker 3: go in.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Yeah. Did he dominate a kicker, Yes he did.
- 4:08Speaker 3: He had some of the greatest kicks in the history.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Of football that he did.
- 4:11Speaker 3: But he had two to at least two Super Bowl
- 4:14Speaker 3: winning kicks.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Okay, so do you think Eli Manning should just walk
- 4:18Speaker 5: in because he's not a kicker? But what should he
- 4:20Speaker 5: just walk in? No sight unseen? He dominated, he did not.
- 4:24Speaker 5: He did not dominate on the biggest stage. He did.
- 4:26Speaker 3: He had two Super Bowl wins, he believe.
- 4:28Speaker 5: But much like Adam had the game winning kicks. But
- 4:32Speaker 5: Eli Manning made the FIA Mario Manningham.
- 4:35Speaker 3: No, it's true, but there's a much higher at quarterback
- 4:39Speaker 3: than kicker.
- 4:40Speaker 5: Of course, it's different.
- 4:41Speaker 3: So don't argue with me.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Then I'm not arguing with you.
- 4:44Speaker 3: You are.
- 4:45Speaker 5: I'm exposing the flaw in you're.
- 4:47Speaker 3: No, there's no reason, there's no flaw. Adam he's the
- 4:50Speaker 3: best kicker to ever be nominated for the Hall of Fame.
- 4:53Speaker 5: He's the most clutch kicker ever to be nominated. That's
- 4:55Speaker 5: not the same thing. To me. It is, well, but
- 4:58Speaker 5: it's not why because there were guys that did it
- 5:01Speaker 5: better than he did. Who you gotta say, Stener, rude,
- 5:06Speaker 5: isn't he already in?
- 5:07Speaker 3: Justin Tucker?
- 5:08Speaker 5: Justin well, Justin Tucker still playing right.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So I'm saying he's not up yet when he goes
- 5:13Speaker 3: he could go in.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Did he have the best percentage when he played?
- 5:16Speaker 3: Hey, no, it didn't matter.
- 5:18Speaker 5: Okay. So that's all I'm saying is he's the most clutch.
- 5:21Speaker 3: Kicker who ever played. When it came down to the
- 5:23Speaker 3: money kicks, he was the best. I would agree, So
- 5:27Speaker 3: put him in a lock.
- 5:29Speaker 5: I just don't agree with your reasoning, that's all.
- 5:31Speaker 3: And he did it for two teams, folks.
- 5:34Speaker 5: That's how I do it. That's how I managed to
- 5:37Speaker 5: argue with Fred over a topic that I agree with
- 5:40Speaker 5: him on. Anyways, Adam goes right in if you ask me.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And like, you know, I think it's a decent list
- 5:49Speaker 3: of twenty five. I think Antonio Gates to me, was
- 5:53Speaker 3: a name that stood out that like, okay, put him in.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Antonio Gates is a Hall of Famer.
- 5:57Speaker 3: Yeah, well, Kickley, If I was a Panther fan, I'd
- 6:01Speaker 3: be like, oh, yeah, put him in. I'm not sure otherwise,
- 6:04Speaker 3: you know, tackle machine, there's.
- 6:06Speaker 5: More than a tackle machine. I mean, he was a
- 6:09Speaker 5: well rounded insideline back. He was a good player, but
- 6:14Speaker 5: I don't know how. I know me I have a
- 6:15Speaker 5: high bar. Yeah I do too, And to me, James
- 6:18Speaker 5: Harris said no, Yeah, I would be a no on
- 6:21Speaker 5: James Harrison too. I thought, well, I mean he was
- 6:24Speaker 5: pretty good, but I don't know how long. And I'm
- 6:27Speaker 5: not talking about how long his career was. I'm talking
- 6:29Speaker 5: about how long he was really good.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Reggie Wayne borderline, and that to me says no.
- 6:35Speaker 5: So the wide receivers are going to be one of
- 6:37Speaker 5: the most difficult positions coming up trying to get that list,
- 6:42Speaker 5: because the numbers for Tory Holt and Reggie Wayne are
- 6:45Speaker 5: going to be, without question, hall of Fame worthy. This
- 6:47Speaker 5: is the same kind of thing that's going to happen
- 6:49Speaker 5: with quarterbacks. You know Matthew Stafford, who you know I love?
- 6:52Speaker 5: Oh yeah, right, Matthew Stafford. I believe moved into the
- 6:56Speaker 5: top ten all time and touchdown passes. Is he a
- 6:59Speaker 5: top ten all time quarterback?
- 7:01Speaker 3: No?
- 7:01Speaker 5: No, right? So is he a Hall of Fame quarterback. No,
- 7:05Speaker 5: but he's going to warrant consideration. No, I agree with you,
- 7:08Speaker 5: and you know I love although here's.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Matthew definitely be on a list when he retired.
- 7:12Speaker 5: But the numbers are going to be so out of
- 7:14Speaker 5: whack with Tory Holt and Reggie Wayne, you know, put
- 7:19Speaker 5: those numbers up against you know, Lynn Swann.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Yeah, they kill him.
- 7:23Speaker 5: My god, it wouldn't even be close.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Right, So that's why you have to look at errors.
- 7:26Speaker 3: You have to look in the error in which they play.
- 7:28Speaker 5: And that's why I think it's going to be difficult
- 7:30Speaker 5: for these Hall of Fame voters to assess stand the position. Yeah,
- 7:36Speaker 5: because I think the numbers have just gone through the roof.
- 7:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's true. So that's that. But it's nice that
- 7:45Speaker 3: you see a list now and there's a lot of
- 7:47Speaker 3: patriots on it, where in the past that wasn't the case.
- 7:52Speaker 3: So there's that, and you listen to draw today. What
- 7:57Speaker 3: did he have to say?
- 7:58Speaker 5: I would say that it was a pretty mundane Wednesday
- 8:01Speaker 5: press commence. Talked a lot about Miami, obviously, but he
- 8:04Speaker 5: did offer up the fact that Cole Strange will return
- 8:08Speaker 5: to the practice field today and he's excited. You know
- 8:12Speaker 5: for that and going to take it day by day,
- 8:14Speaker 5: not anywhere near ready to let us know when he
- 8:18Speaker 5: might be able to be activated into a game. Now,
- 8:20Speaker 5: it's a long absence. It was so long, it's.
- 8:23Speaker 3: A very exactly what is it? I believe that's the
- 8:27Speaker 3: one that goes over the middle.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Ruptured Fortell Attendon, if I'm not mistaken.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Back of it. Yeah so.
- 8:34Speaker 5: But he He also added that David Andrews has been
- 8:37Speaker 5: working with him already to try to learn the center
- 8:40Speaker 5: position a little bit, which I think could potentially give him,
- 8:43Speaker 5: you know, a boost maybe in the last month, if
- 8:46Speaker 5: you know, you're given a couple of weeks to get ready,
- 8:49Speaker 5: and then maybe he could play the last four games.
- 8:51Speaker 5: I mean, is that unrealistic? I don't know. I I'm
- 8:53Speaker 5: not sure, but.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Well, especially if you're thinking they have a need might
- 8:57Speaker 3: retire after the.
- 8:58Speaker 5: Seed, but they have a need now too. I mean,
- 9:00Speaker 5: you don't like Ben Brown, just all kinds of respect
- 9:04Speaker 5: for these guys that are feeling you trade Jacobs, Ben Brown,
- 9:08Speaker 5: Michael Jordans. They're doing the best they can. They're they're
- 9:11Speaker 5: they're just not good enough. And Ben Brown has been
- 9:14Speaker 5: really exposed. The strip sack is an example last week,
- 9:21Speaker 5: just a simple stunt right up the middle. Ben Brown
- 9:24Speaker 5: doesn't pick him up. He's blocking another he's double double
- 9:27Speaker 5: team and another guy. I'm not Please, don't take this
- 9:30Speaker 5: as a shot. This is not me saying Ben Brown.
- 9:33Speaker 5: You know, like what do we do? This is not
- 9:36Speaker 5: his faulty. They signed him off for someone else's practice
- 9:38Speaker 5: squad two months ago. He's filling in. He's doing the
- 9:41Speaker 5: best he can. You know, Quinn Williams dominated him. You
- 9:44Speaker 5: know that they're having they're having a hard time. Yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 5: they're having a hard time in the middle. So if
- 9:49Speaker 5: Cole Strange can play the center spot, does he.
- 9:52Speaker 3: Have the body type for that because he gets over
- 9:55Speaker 3: power to guard.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Yeah, but well he's a little he's a little tall,
- 9:59Speaker 5: I would say, yeah, center, But he's that kind of
- 10:02Speaker 5: athletic profile, like he moves well.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Well, he moves well, there's no doubt about it. But like, like,
- 10:07Speaker 3: the biggest thing I thought that was against him at
- 10:10Speaker 3: guard was he got overpowered at times, he got pushed backward.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Yeah, so at center, I mean he's bigger than David Andrews.
- 10:18Speaker 3: Is he yeah, thicker?
- 10:21Speaker 5: I would say so?
- 10:22Speaker 3: Really, Okay, I thought David Andrews has maybe a lower
- 10:25Speaker 3: center of gravity.
- 10:26Speaker 5: Maybe he's not as tall. Yeah, but I think I
- 10:29Speaker 5: think Strange is heavier. I mean I could look it up.
- 10:32Speaker 3: I just look at the weight distribution.
- 10:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean you you do tend to break these
- 10:37Speaker 5: things down at a much higher level than Yeah, I
- 10:40Speaker 5: would agree with that.
- 10:43Speaker 3: But anyway, let's see Cole.
- 10:44Speaker 5: String that he's back hold. Strange is six five three ten. Yeah,
- 10:50Speaker 5: the weight I do not believe David Andrews.
- 10:53Speaker 3: I like, I like my centers to be about six
- 10:55Speaker 3: three three ten. Okay, yeah, you know, it's a little
- 11:00Speaker 3: lower center of gravity, a little bit tougher to push.
- 11:04Speaker 3: You do get the advantage though, of six two.
- 11:06Speaker 5: Three hundred six three hundred David Andrews. David Andrews is
- 11:09Speaker 5: on the small side for a center.
- 11:11Speaker 3: It's a little light yeah, okay, you.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Know, and that's why some of those guys that we
- 11:16Speaker 5: just I just mentioned, like a guy like Quinn Williams
- 11:18Speaker 5: to Forrest Buckner when they play the Colts. Guys like
- 11:20Speaker 5: that have given David Andrews problems because he is a
- 11:23Speaker 5: little bit on the small side. But yeah, I think
- 11:26Speaker 5: that's a good development. If you can get Strange back
- 11:29Speaker 5: in even if it's at guard. You know, you take
- 11:32Speaker 5: Jordan out, maybe you say Jordan's not playing as well
- 11:34Speaker 5: as Ben Brown, so you want to leave Ben Brown in. Fine,
- 11:37Speaker 5: I'll trust Scott Peters to make that evaluation that gives
- 11:41Speaker 5: you another option for next year when you're sort of
- 11:44Speaker 5: thinking about how this is going to unfold.
- 11:46Speaker 3: Yep.
- 11:47Speaker 5: You know, it's like when Mike was talking yesterday about
- 11:50Speaker 5: Leyden Robinson seeing if you can get him back into
- 11:52Speaker 5: the mix and see if you get anything there, and
- 11:54Speaker 5: then Girod did mention that Kayden Wallace isn't quite ready
- 11:58Speaker 5: to start practicing yet still on IR so if you
- 12:03Speaker 5: can get him back out there, and then you evaluate
- 12:05Speaker 5: strange Robinson and Wallace, see what you got going forward?
- 12:10Speaker 3: Okay for next year? Yeah?
- 12:13Speaker 5: Right, yeah exactly, because you know, back to our offensive
- 12:18Speaker 5: line thing that you set me straight on.
- 12:23Speaker 3: You do you need four? Right?
- 12:26Speaker 5: What do you need too?
- 12:28Speaker 3: You know?
- 12:29Speaker 5: And then which ones? So I think that that's a
- 12:31Speaker 5: big piece of the puzzle.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Because right drafting for depth of drafting for starts.
- 12:34Speaker 5: Right now, you probably only think you're set at one spot,
- 12:37Speaker 5: and that's whatever the spot that Mike O went. Who
- 12:40Speaker 5: happens to play right. You know, he's not going anywhere.
- 12:42Speaker 5: He's owed you know, nineteen million next year. He's not
- 12:46Speaker 5: going anywhere unless they make, you know, a trade of
- 12:49Speaker 5: some sort. So Andrews we talked about. His status is
- 12:54Speaker 5: up in the air. You know, I don't think Michael Jordan,
- 12:57Speaker 5: Tray Jacobs, Vederian Lowe, I don't think they are long
- 12:59Speaker 5: term solutions. They're all just filling roles and Ben Brown
- 13:03Speaker 5: so got to figure it out.
- 13:05Speaker 3: So yesterday, I think it was during the show that
- 13:08Speaker 3: it was announced that Joe Douglass got fired from the Jets,
- 13:11Speaker 3: their general manager, and you're not enough bad things can
- 13:15Speaker 3: happen to the Jets. But we did get an email
- 13:18Speaker 3: from one of our listeners who wanted to know if
- 13:23Speaker 3: I would for the newsletter right top ten most hated teams.
- 13:28Speaker 3: So I forget his name who the emailer was, but
- 13:31Speaker 3: I am going to do that, okay, but it's going
- 13:33Speaker 3: to be top five. I don't have like ten that
- 13:35Speaker 3: I hate anymore. I've kind of but I do have
- 13:38Speaker 3: my top five. If you get the newsletter, you will
- 13:41Speaker 3: see it.
- 13:42Speaker 5: It'll be listen. You probably should have an idea.
- 13:44Speaker 3: You have an idea, but it might you might be
- 13:46Speaker 3: surprised at the order.
- 13:48Speaker 5: I would be surprised the order. I wouldn't be able
- 13:50Speaker 5: to nail you order.
- 13:51Speaker 3: So that's going to be in this week's newsletter. If
- 13:53Speaker 3: you don't already, all you have to do is email
- 13:56Speaker 3: us at podcasts at patriots dot com. All you have
- 14:00Speaker 3: to do is just say newsletter. You don't have to
- 14:02Speaker 3: send a question or anything. Just say newsletter and we'll
- 14:05Speaker 3: put you into the distribution list and you'll get your
- 14:08Speaker 3: first one this Friday. So I'm going to put that list.
- 14:11Speaker 5: I'm looking forward to that. Yeah, I think, I know.
- 14:14Speaker 5: I think I would be pretty common talk about.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I won't throw it out, we'll talk about it next week.
- 14:18Speaker 5: I won't spoil it. But I think I you know
- 14:20Speaker 5: my in my mind.
- 14:21Speaker 3: But I also give reasoning, like why I hate them.
- 14:24Speaker 5: Because you're your borderline cycle.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I'm a lunatic. Yeah, so there was watched the hate.
- 14:29Speaker 5: There was an element of that Joe Douglas firing that
- 14:32Speaker 5: I found very interesting. I don't know if you saw.
- 14:34Speaker 5: I have no idea if it's true, but the Athletic
- 14:37Speaker 5: had some recap of the Joe Douglas firing in the
- 14:40Speaker 5: aftermath of that, and Evidently Woody Johnson wanted to bench
- 14:46Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers right when they I think when they fired
- 14:50Speaker 5: Salah and they it was some pushback there and we
- 14:55Speaker 5: can't do that. We're not going to do that. And
- 14:58Speaker 5: you know, I think they've gone one and six since then,
- 15:01Speaker 5: and now Joe Douglas is out. What do you think
- 15:03Speaker 5: of that, Woody Johnson?
- 15:05Speaker 3: It's interesting who was there backup?
- 15:08Speaker 5: I don't know. It's a Tyrod Taylor. See you on
- 15:10Speaker 5: that team.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I have no idea, but it is interesting that I
- 15:14Speaker 3: said it. But that must mean that Woody Johnson from
- 15:17Speaker 3: his ownership perch Tyrod Taylor. So he's not terrible, nailed
- 15:22Speaker 3: it one games in the NFL, but the ownership purge.
- 15:26Speaker 3: From that view, he can tell that Aaron Rodgers is
- 15:30Speaker 3: toxic to that, to that team, because why else would.
- 15:34Speaker 5: You walk He was playing poorly?
- 15:36Speaker 3: But but you but him playing poorly is better than
- 15:39Speaker 3: Tyrod Taylor.
- 15:40Speaker 5: I'm sorry, I think, I mean, I don't. I don't
- 15:44Speaker 5: think much of Tyrod Taylor, so I'm not trying to
- 15:46Speaker 5: This is not a pro Tyrod Taylor stance. You can
- 15:49Speaker 5: make an argument that Rodgers is so immobile that Tyrod
- 15:53Speaker 5: Taylor would be better than him. Maybe from a physical standpoint,
- 15:57Speaker 5: I'm saying, I don't know.
- 15:58Speaker 3: I just feel like a good OC can figure it
- 16:01Speaker 3: out with Aaron Rodgers.
- 16:02Speaker 5: He refuses to move.
- 16:03Speaker 3: Did you see like witting against us.
- 16:06Speaker 5: That that's the weirdest thing, because you're absolutely right that
- 16:10Speaker 5: Thursday night game he moved around really well.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Maybe he hurt himself that game.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Well, I think it was the next game or whatever
- 16:16Speaker 5: the London game was. If that was the next one
- 16:18Speaker 5: or two weeks later in London against Minnesota, I think
- 16:22Speaker 5: he hurt.
- 16:22Speaker 3: His ankle when he was going to the sideline. I
- 16:24Speaker 3: don't think he's been.
- 16:25Speaker 5: The same, but anyway, he just we don't watch all
- 16:32Speaker 5: the one you know, especially the one o'clock games. I
- 16:34Speaker 5: don't get to do the red zone during the post
- 16:36Speaker 5: game when the games are already over right, the end
- 16:38Speaker 5: of that game, the Jets Colts game, the Colts scored
- 16:42Speaker 5: with like forty something seconds left. There was plenty of time.
- 16:45Speaker 5: They were only up one, so you're like, wow, Jets
- 16:48Speaker 5: should go down getting field goal range and if the
- 16:50Speaker 5: guy makes it, he makes it. If he missed it,
- 16:51Speaker 5: you know, like they did that against Denver. They went
- 16:54Speaker 5: right down the field and Zeroline missed the field goal.
- 16:56Speaker 5: They lost, but usually in the NFL you get at
- 17:00Speaker 5: least a shot.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:01Speaker 5: Right, the first play, he was under pressure, like couldn't
- 17:06Speaker 5: move out of the way, sort of spun around. I
- 17:09Speaker 5: think he threw a pass backwards and they had to
- 17:11Speaker 5: recover it and they ended up losing. Like you know,
- 17:15Speaker 5: they cost them all kinds they lost yards, that cost
- 17:17Speaker 5: them all kinds of time, and that basically short circuited
- 17:19Speaker 5: the drive. Like he just he can't move even to
- 17:23Speaker 5: throw the ball away.
- 17:24Speaker 3: But I think he gets pissed, like, oh.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Yeah, he's so casual about it too.
- 17:28Speaker 3: The rush Company's just like, oh, you know.
- 17:30Speaker 5: Some guys would look panicked here, but it's cool for that, right,
- 17:34Speaker 5: you know, Like Fred toucher On on my shows, who
- 17:39Speaker 5: is a Jets fan, he is so frustrated with Rogers
- 17:43Speaker 5: and just every week it's the same thing. He just hammers.
- 17:46Speaker 3: He's a piece of work, you know, and I you know,
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'll remember, like it was yesterday when the Jets announced
- 17:53Speaker 3: that they were signing him. Were I was like, oh
- 17:56Speaker 3: uh oh, the balance of power in the AFC East
- 17:59Speaker 3: has changed. I mean with all the talent around him.
- 18:02Speaker 5: I thought I thought that would be a home run.
- 18:04Speaker 3: But other people were like, don't worry, Fred, it's the Jets,
- 18:08Speaker 3: it's Aaron Rodgers. Well, but bad things happened to the Jets,
- 18:12Speaker 3: so you sign Aaron Rodgers, he gets hurt for a
- 18:14Speaker 3: whole season. In the next season, he can't play it.
- 18:16Speaker 5: I mean, it's the Jets, you can do that. But
- 18:18Speaker 5: Aaron Rodgers is playing like Aaron Rodgers didn't at the
- 18:21Speaker 5: end in Green Bay. I thought he would be rejuvenated.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I thought he would show some pride and he hasn't. Yeah,
- 18:27Speaker 5: he's played just the way he ran out, played out
- 18:29Speaker 5: the string in Green Bay, like with no care.
- 18:31Speaker 3: I think the point these people are making to me
- 18:33Speaker 3: is they could have signed Patrick Mahomes in his peak
- 18:35Speaker 3: and something would happen bad. Yeah, but that would you know.
- 18:38Speaker 5: I mean that those make for funny lines, but like
- 18:42Speaker 5: that's not really Like.
- 18:43Speaker 3: But in Israel, the Jets haven't won since sixty eight.
- 18:46Speaker 5: No, I know, But but it's not because they're cursed,
- 18:49Speaker 5: Like there's no point.
- 18:50Speaker 3: No, they're not curse, they're idiots.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Like if Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes went to the Jets,
- 18:55Speaker 5: Like it's not rational to say well, it just wouldn't
- 18:58Speaker 5: have work.
- 18:59Speaker 3: I might be anyway. Speaking of Tom Brady, a lot
- 19:04Speaker 3: of news lately. You know, he's been doing interviews, he
- 19:06Speaker 3: gets on, he does Tom Brady's mail bag and all
- 19:09Speaker 3: this stuff. And he recently did an interview with Patrick Mahomes,
- 19:12Speaker 3: and I guess it was a good interview. But there's
- 19:15Speaker 3: a lot of owners or people that work for owners
- 19:19Speaker 3: in the league complaining that he shouldn't have this access
- 19:22Speaker 3: as an owner of another team, and that there already
- 19:26Speaker 3: are restrictions for him when it comes to like the
- 19:29Speaker 3: production meetings. But a lot of teams are looking for
- 19:31Speaker 3: even more restrictions so I can go ahead. So I
- 19:36Speaker 3: was thinking to myself, what's the big deal? But think
- 19:39Speaker 3: about it this way. Okay, he is now an owner
- 19:42Speaker 3: of another team, and so he goes and has this
- 19:45Speaker 3: interview before the Chiefs game with Patrick Mahomes. And it's
- 19:48Speaker 3: innocent enough, But what about like when the cameras are off,
- 19:52Speaker 3: they start diving deep into football philosophy, and Patrick mahoons like,
- 19:57Speaker 3: I really like this guy, Like in the back of
- 20:01Speaker 3: his mind's like, you know, I'm being a free agent
- 20:04Speaker 3: in a couple of years. I wouldn't mind playing for
- 20:06Speaker 3: Tom Brady, right, and so that type of access could
- 20:09Speaker 3: have that type of effect.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Absolutely, I think that's that's valid. Now what I would
- 20:14Speaker 5: ask is like, can forget the interview part of it?
- 20:19Speaker 5: Because I think you're right, the interview is innocent, right,
- 20:23Speaker 5: it's what might happen around it exactly the way you described.
- 20:26Speaker 5: So would Robert Craft not be allowed to like invite
- 20:32Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes to lunch?
- 20:34Speaker 3: I would not want that if I was Andy Reid
- 20:36Speaker 3: or the owner of the Chiefs.
- 20:38Speaker 5: I didn't ask what you would want. I'm asking if
- 20:40Speaker 5: it would be a lot like.
- 20:41Speaker 3: What if you don't think it's what if.
- 20:43Speaker 5: They what if they let's you know, I'm just trying
- 20:45Speaker 5: to make up a hypothetical. Okay, Let's say Robert Craft was,
- 20:49Speaker 5: you know, in Miami for some business thing Patrick Mahomes
- 20:54Speaker 5: happened to appear at and they sit down and like,
- 20:57Speaker 5: is that illegal?
- 20:58Speaker 3: No, I'm asking, I don't think that's illegal if there
- 21:00Speaker 3: if it was like a.
- 21:01Speaker 5: But what if they end up just you know, the
- 21:03Speaker 5: two of them end up, you know, having lunch together,
- 21:05Speaker 5: just the two of them. I don't I get what
- 21:08Speaker 5: you're saying, Like, I wouldn't want to Andy Reid or
- 21:10Speaker 5: Clock Hunt.
- 21:11Speaker 3: I don't think it's illegal. It depends on how it was,
- 21:13Speaker 3: how did it come about, you know.
- 21:16Speaker 5: Like if it came about innocently, it would be okay.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Because I totally get what you're saying. I'm not trying
- 21:20Speaker 5: to be argumentative like I normally am. I'm just it's
- 21:24Speaker 5: it's just saying line. But but he shouldn't. He shouldn't
- 21:27Speaker 5: be able to do both. I don't think there's any questions.
- 21:29Speaker 5: But even Robert kra can't serve two masters.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Even Robert Kraft right now doesn't have the kind of
- 21:35Speaker 3: access to other teams that the A team broadcast, you know,
- 21:41Speaker 3: without color Man has.
- 21:43Speaker 5: He should not be allowed to do both. And my
- 21:44Speaker 5: guess is when this year is over, that's going to
- 21:46Speaker 5: be It's going to be Tom Brady's broadcasting career. But
- 21:49Speaker 5: I don't know that. No one's written that, and no
- 21:51Speaker 5: one's told me that, But that would be to me,
- 21:55Speaker 5: the best way to go here.
- 21:57Speaker 3: And then somebody. So on one of your shows this morning,
- 21:59Speaker 3: they were talking That's why I was thinking about. They
- 22:01Speaker 3: were talking about it and then said, yeah, they said
- 22:04Speaker 3: what you said, it'll be one and done. I think
- 22:06Speaker 3: it was Curtis, and he said, you know, that's not
- 22:09Speaker 3: my show. But then Wiggy said, yeah, so after this
- 22:13Speaker 3: year it'll be done, and then he'll be with the
- 22:15Speaker 3: Raiders and you know he'll be the guy helping the
- 22:17Speaker 3: owner hire coaches and doing all like. No, he really
- 22:21Speaker 3: he's now going to become the de facto GM, he said,
- 22:24Speaker 3: much like Elway was.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Yeah, see, that's exactly what I was going to say.
- 22:28Speaker 5: So he's going to fill a John Elway role.
- 22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't.
- 22:30Speaker 5: I don't see that either.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Yeah, don't you see this as more of like that's
- 22:33Speaker 3: a full time job.
- 22:34Speaker 5: Isn't this more of like to you like, this is
- 22:37Speaker 5: a business opportunity.
- 22:38Speaker 3: It's a business opinal opportunity. He's already invested in Vegas.
- 22:41Speaker 3: He's got the women's basketball team. I think he sees
- 22:44Speaker 3: it as a building an empire, building a sports exactly
- 22:48Speaker 3: in Vegas, and so, uh, that's why he's doing it.
- 22:51Speaker 3: I don't think he's doing it because he wants to
- 22:53Speaker 3: play GM.
- 22:54Speaker 5: Yeah again, I don't think you know either.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I don't.
- 22:57Speaker 5: I don't know. Maybe he does, but I would be
- 22:59Speaker 5: surprised if that.
- 22:59Speaker 3: But if you're going to be a GM, that's you're
- 23:01Speaker 3: there full time a lot of that's a lot of work,
- 23:03Speaker 3: a lot of work.
- 23:04Speaker 5: Now, I do think that having a guy like that,
- 23:08Speaker 5: you know, as a ceremonial figurehead, it could be valuable.
- 23:11Speaker 3: Sure, you know, And to me that just rubs me
- 23:14Speaker 3: so wrong. He's the ceremonial figurehead of the Raiders, the
- 23:19Speaker 3: guy with the tuck rule that probably ended your run.
- 23:22Speaker 5: Sounds like one of those tough five might be well fringe, Yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 5: I got a couple. I got two locks in the
- 23:33Speaker 5: top five that aren't there. But anyway, I'll let you
- 23:36Speaker 5: unveil it.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Just it, just it. This whole Brady with the Raiders
- 23:41Speaker 3: thing every day rubs me worse. I just don't like it.
- 23:46Speaker 3: It's wrong. I want him to divest and I want
- 23:50Speaker 3: Robert Kraft to say, come here, I'll let you buy
- 23:54Speaker 3: one or two percent of this team. This is where
- 23:57Speaker 3: your love Tom, not in Las Vegas, for crying out loud,
- 24:02Speaker 3: certainly not with the Raiders. This is where you.
- 24:07Speaker 5: There's nowhere that he's going to have the adoration.
- 24:10Speaker 3: What are we doing here? It's just it's not right.
- 24:14Speaker 5: He doesn't love it here. I mean I think it's.
- 24:16Speaker 3: Pretty clear, you know how like when magnets like are opposite.
- 24:19Speaker 3: This is what it's like, Raiders and Brady.
- 24:22Speaker 5: That doesn't match dogs and cats living together.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Oh it's just a money play. I hate it. I
- 24:29Speaker 3: hate it anyway, all right? Eight five five PATS five
- 24:34Speaker 3: hundred is the tpx houtline podcast at patriots dot com.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Is the email address we got people calling, people emailing.
- 24:42Speaker 3: We'll have evan induced coming soon, so we should probably
- 24:46Speaker 3: get to what the listeners have to say because once
- 24:48Speaker 3: even comes here, you know, just kidding it. No, Trevor's
- 24:54Speaker 3: in Kansas City. What's up, Trevor?
- 24:57Speaker 7: Hey, guys, I have two points I wanted to make,
- 25:00Speaker 7: and the probably well can you hear me, Trevor?
- 25:03Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 25:03Speaker 5: I think I can hear it.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Hear yeah, Matt. I don't think the speaker, but I
- 25:07Speaker 3: think the speaker might have popped here. I heard it go.
- 25:11Speaker 5: Is that what it was?
- 25:12Speaker 3: Can you hear me? Guys?
- 25:13Speaker 5: So hold on and hold on that line.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Can I put them on hold?
- 25:17Speaker 5: We'll get to here the second I'll put them on hold.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I just put Trevor on hold, although.
- 25:22Speaker 5: We'll do it live. Yeah, yeah, I think they might
- 25:26Speaker 5: might have something might just happen to that. What else
- 25:30Speaker 5: oh Dolphins. Yeah, yeah, this is this is It's gonna
- 25:38Speaker 5: be a tough spot.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm looking for a big game for my guy,
- 25:41Speaker 3: Marcus Jones.
- 25:42Speaker 5: Miami can't Miami can't afford to lose this game. I
- 25:46Speaker 5: don't like that situation. Yeah, you know, they they're claring
- 25:50Speaker 5: their way back and they're probably at best gonna you know,
- 25:53Speaker 5: if they can, things can work out for them. Maybe
- 25:55Speaker 5: they can squeak out nine wins, which might get you
- 25:58Speaker 5: the seventh spot, you know, in the wild card. But
- 26:02Speaker 5: if they're going to do that, they can't afford to
- 26:04Speaker 5: lose to the Patriots at home. They need that one.
- 26:07Speaker 5: So I don't I don't like I don't like the spot.
- 26:09Speaker 3: All right, let's see. Should I try it now? All right,
- 26:12Speaker 3: let's see Trevor you're there, can you hear me?
- 26:16Speaker 5: Guys?
- 26:17Speaker 3: We got problems. We got speaker problems. All right, Sorry, Trevor.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Maybe maybe you can call back later. I'll get to
- 26:25Speaker 3: some emails. Oh that's too.
- 26:26Speaker 5: Bad, all right, get to some emails.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I had a weird thing happened to me today.
- 26:32Speaker 5: Paul, you want to share it.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I was in the bathroom.
- 26:37Speaker 5: I thought, how weird is this that? Before you share
- 26:39Speaker 5: it in front of the you know, a family audience. Yeah,
- 26:42Speaker 5: how weird? Is this situation weird?
- 26:44Speaker 3: It's just, you know, I think it's happened to everybody. Okay,
- 26:47Speaker 3: I thought I was alone and I was.
- 26:49Speaker 5: Now I'm really worried.
- 26:50Speaker 3: I was in my stall and I just started talking
- 26:53Speaker 3: to myself because I was trying to work out a
- 26:55Speaker 3: plan to deliver something to somebody. Yeah, so I started
- 26:59Speaker 3: talking out loud, and I think the person who I
- 27:02Speaker 3: didn't know was next to me wanted me to know
- 27:04Speaker 3: that he was there, so we started shuffling his feet.
- 27:07Speaker 5: So I was like, oh, you were talking to yourself,
- 27:12Speaker 5: thinking you will buy yourself. Yeah, and there was somebody
- 27:15Speaker 5: else in the bathroom next to me.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 5: I told you, friend that that's like getting old. Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 5: that's when you just got to go all right, Yeah, yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 5: all right, I'll let you go. Yeah right, Like I
- 27:25Speaker 5: was pretend on the phone, I don't give a crap.
- 27:30Speaker 3: John Risley. He says, I'm thinking about buying my mom
- 27:34Speaker 3: a new washer and dryer for Christmas. I know you're
- 27:37Speaker 3: the one that knows when it comes to appliances. Was
- 27:39Speaker 3: wondering any advice, Well, you know, I mean come on,
- 27:43Speaker 3: is that a setup question. I'm a speed Queen guy.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Speed Queen, Speed Queen. Now the question for your mother
- 27:49Speaker 3: is does she still have kids in the houses at
- 27:53Speaker 3: a large family, Because if it's a large family, speed
- 27:57Speaker 3: Queen may not be the way to go. You might
- 28:00Speaker 3: want a bigger washer and dryer that has more bells
- 28:04Speaker 3: and whistles because you're doing you know, bigger loads and everything.
- 28:07Speaker 3: But if she's it's just her and your dad or whatever,
- 28:10Speaker 3: small small, you know, workload, Speed Queen is the way
- 28:15Speaker 3: to go. Last forever, made in the US steel drum.
- 28:18Speaker 3: You know it doesn't break down.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Yea, what but you can't have a heavy workload.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Well no, I mean, like if you have like huge
- 28:25Speaker 3: loads because you've got six kids, like the LG's the
- 28:28Speaker 3: Samsungs have more bells and whistles and you know. But anyway,
- 28:34Speaker 3: speed Queen, Speed Queen. That's Freddy's Yeah, washer of we
- 28:39Speaker 3: have a lot of emails. Let's see what's going on.
- 28:41Speaker 5: Some of them.
- 28:44Speaker 3: Warren says, not great on YouTube, sounds like it's underwater.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Can we have somebody check YouTube?
- 28:50Speaker 5: There might be some some issues here. I think Matt's
- 28:53Speaker 5: scurrying around in the other.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Room at Can we have somebody check YouTube and how
- 28:58Speaker 3: it signs on sounds on YouTube. Let's see a lot
- 29:05Speaker 3: of questions about next year. I don't like talking about
- 29:07Speaker 3: next year yet, Gary, next year draft stuff like draft
- 29:12Speaker 3: and free agents and not ready for that.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Yeah, let's talk about we have months to do those shows.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Let's see who's this? This is Gary? Where's Gary from?
- 29:23Speaker 3: Oh it's a long email, Indiana. He's in Dublin.
- 29:26Speaker 5: Oh not even close.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Yeah, been listening since before Super Bowl forty nine. It's
- 29:34Speaker 3: been playing on my mind a few weeks now. But
- 29:36Speaker 3: Christian beat me to the punch on Tuesday Show. We
- 29:38Speaker 3: were apparently always a run first team this season. I'm
- 29:42Speaker 3: guessing to give Drake a chance to get ready, but
- 29:44Speaker 3: we did nothing to improve that position. We extended Remandre
- 29:48Speaker 3: off the back of a down year. But other than that,
- 29:50Speaker 3: we got bodies to fill. We got bodies to fill spots.
- 29:55Speaker 3: As you discussed, we had the cap space. While Paul
- 29:58Speaker 3: and Evan don't like signing running backs and free agency
- 30:00Speaker 3: and I get it, but why not even try to
- 30:04Speaker 3: go for one of the available Tier one guys like
- 30:06Speaker 3: mixing a Barkley not saying we would have got him,
- 30:08Speaker 3: but at least try. And then he goes about how
- 30:13Speaker 3: Bill never valued the elite running back, but you know
- 30:16Speaker 3: and all that.
- 30:16Speaker 5: But do you think that the elite running back was
- 30:20Speaker 5: a necessity when they re signed Stevenson? Do you think
- 30:24Speaker 5: that would have been smart? I don't either. Yeah, now
- 30:28Speaker 5: we can we can hear you.
- 30:30Speaker 3: Okay, So it was Josh on YouTube too.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Yeah, there was some talk about the YouTube feeds sounded
- 30:38Speaker 5: a little bit muffled, like we were underwater.
- 30:40Speaker 3: Maybe you can email Chris or something.
- 30:43Speaker 5: I don't know, but you know, the running back thing,
- 30:46Speaker 5: I totally get that. I was a little surprised they
- 30:48Speaker 5: didn't add some depth, and I thought there were some
- 30:50Speaker 5: depth pieces that they could have signed even as the
- 30:53Speaker 5: summer came around. But I would not have been interested
- 30:56Speaker 5: in signing a frontline guy like like Joe Mixon or
- 30:59Speaker 5: Josh Jacobs or Saquon Barkley because you re signed Ramandre Stevenson. Now,
- 31:05Speaker 5: if you had lost him, then you want somebody talented
- 31:09Speaker 5: to base the running game on. But like they wanted
- 31:13Speaker 5: to be a run first team. I agree with the emailer, Right,
- 31:17Speaker 5: do you feel like they haven't been able to be
- 31:18Speaker 5: a run first team because of the lack of depth
- 31:21Speaker 5: at running back.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Or because of the line.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Well, but they've been I mean until May started playing,
- 31:27Speaker 5: they've been a run first team. Since May has played,
- 31:31Speaker 5: the running production is dropped off, but the passing production
- 31:33Speaker 5: has increased, right, so that I don't necessarily look at
- 31:38Speaker 5: the depth chart at running back being a problem. Now.
- 31:41Speaker 5: I agree that they were a little thin there, and
- 31:43Speaker 5: I thought that they would, you know, like last year
- 31:45Speaker 5: they signed Ezekiel Elliott somebody like that they could have signed.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Don't you think even when the end it started, the
- 31:52Speaker 3: run game started to be less effective.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I think the run games teams were gearing up.
- 31:57Speaker 5: The run game production was almost entirely dude who incredible
- 32:01Speaker 5: work from Stevenson and Gibson breaking tackles in the backfield
- 32:04Speaker 5: every game. But even then after a while, after a while,
- 32:08Speaker 5: you can't do that any right.
- 32:09Speaker 3: So if you knew now what you if you know,
- 32:13Speaker 3: if you knew then what you know now would like
- 32:16Speaker 3: a mix and have been good if you knew it
- 32:19Speaker 3: was gonna.
- 32:20Speaker 5: No, I don't think it would have been a smart
- 32:22Speaker 5: use of resources.
- 32:23Speaker 3: All.
- 32:24Speaker 5: Now, if you said mixing instead of Stevenson, you can
- 32:28Speaker 5: give me an argument for that, I would have taken Stevenson.
- 32:30Speaker 5: I think he's younger, but you can make an argument
- 32:33Speaker 5: for one over the other. I don't understand why you
- 32:35Speaker 5: would want to invest big money into two running backs,
- 32:38Speaker 5: or any money really into two running backs, you know.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Micah from South Dakota writes in Adam Vinteri is the
- 32:45Speaker 3: league's all time leading scorer, has two walk off game
- 32:48Speaker 3: winning kicks, and Super bowls. Off those two facts alone,
- 32:52Speaker 3: he should be a first ballot Hall of Famer, and
- 32:54Speaker 3: I could argue unanimously. Also, is this the year Rodney
- 32:58Speaker 3: Harrison finally gets in? I hope so dude deserves it.
- 33:02Speaker 3: My current Patriot question, do you guys think with Cole
- 33:05Speaker 3: Strange being activated they will play him at center? I'd
- 33:08Speaker 3: love to see him try, and it gives him a
- 33:10Speaker 3: chance to actually get a good second contract with the
- 33:13Speaker 3: team since David Andrews will likely retire by the time
- 33:16Speaker 3: we need to play Strange. Nothing against Ben Brown. He's
- 33:19Speaker 3: been a good soldier, but he can't do it at
- 33:21Speaker 3: an NFL level.
- 33:23Speaker 5: Yeah, Just to be to be clear, Cole Strange has
- 33:28Speaker 5: not been activated.
- 33:30Speaker 8: He was.
- 33:31Speaker 5: He's going to return to practice today, but he has
- 33:34Speaker 5: not been activated yet, And yes, right along the lines
- 33:38Speaker 5: of what the email is talking about, I do think
- 33:41Speaker 5: they have plans to check and see if he has
- 33:43Speaker 5: the versatility to play center. And David Andrews has already
- 33:47Speaker 5: been working with him, trying to help along with that
- 33:50Speaker 5: kind of a transition. So I think that is in
- 33:52Speaker 5: the cards and we'll see if it works. You know,
- 33:55Speaker 5: it's like you said, Fred, you know some guys just
- 33:57Speaker 5: can't do you know, can't do it. Yep, and who
- 34:00Speaker 5: knows if Cole Strange can.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Anthony writes in the call mail made to accept the
- 34:06Speaker 3: penalty yards and not make the rams punt. Is it
- 34:09Speaker 3: possible that he was worried taking the five yard penalty
- 34:12Speaker 3: creating another fourth down may have given McVeigh the opportunity
- 34:16Speaker 3: to decide to try to kick the field goal and
- 34:18Speaker 3: seal the game.
- 34:20Speaker 5: So he didn't kick the field goal at the distance
- 34:22Speaker 5: it was but five yards further back. Yeah, does that
- 34:27Speaker 5: make sense to him?
- 34:27Speaker 3: It doesn't. Yeah, they were on the thirty five. Taking
- 34:32Speaker 3: the penalty would push them back to the forty, so
- 34:35Speaker 3: roughly a fifty eight yard field goal to end the game. Basically,
- 34:39Speaker 3: as long as this season is fifty five, I was
- 34:41Speaker 3: actually surprised at didn't kicked to try to seal the
- 34:43Speaker 3: win when they punted.
- 34:45Speaker 5: Right, So he thought fifty three was too little long.
- 34:48Speaker 5: But I would have kicked fifty eight right. Yeah, now
- 34:50Speaker 5: that doesn't make sense. I think that had the game
- 34:54Speaker 5: been tied, I think he probably would have kicked the
- 34:56Speaker 5: fifty three yard field goal, but they didn't need it. Yeah,
- 35:00Speaker 5: they thought it was more important to pin them back,
- 35:03Speaker 5: and ultimately they were right because they really didn't even
- 35:07Speaker 5: come close to giving up that touchdown.
- 35:08Speaker 3: Yep, so the speakers up again, eight five to five,
- 35:11Speaker 3: pats five hundred if you want to call on the
- 35:14Speaker 3: TPX hotline. Alex writes in e'san Lowell he said yesterday,
- 35:19Speaker 3: but Dart, your guy.
- 35:21Speaker 5: I did not hear any of Greg yesterday, so this
- 35:24Speaker 5: is all new to me.
- 35:25Speaker 3: He made a point that AVP has been a great
- 35:27Speaker 3: quarterback coach so far to May, which I agree with.
- 35:30Speaker 3: I think Drake has steadily improved week by week and
- 35:32Speaker 3: has looked much better from when he first got in
- 35:35Speaker 3: during mop up time against the Jets. However, but Dard
- 35:39Speaker 3: also briefly brought up how if Cliff Kingsbury was coaching May,
- 35:43Speaker 3: that Drake would have started week one and looked similar
- 35:45Speaker 3: to Jaden Daniels, Paul, since you love to do this
- 35:49Speaker 3: for argument's sake, which route of coaching do you think
- 35:52Speaker 3: is better last for lasting development for quarterback? Whid may
- 35:56Speaker 3: look worlds better if he had Kingsbury from day one.
- 36:00Speaker 5: I mean, I really don't have any idea. I mean,
- 36:03Speaker 5: I'm not going to try to pretend. Kingsbury has been
- 36:06Speaker 5: a guy who has generally at the starts of seasons
- 36:12Speaker 5: had a lot of success and then generally teams have
- 36:16Speaker 5: kind of figured it out. And people are already starting
- 36:19Speaker 5: to wonder if that's starting to happen in Washington. You know,
- 36:23Speaker 5: they've been a little bit more average. You know, they
- 36:24Speaker 5: had that even the game that they had the Hail Mary,
- 36:27Speaker 5: you know, they didn't score very much, right, they struggled
- 36:30Speaker 5: in the red zone that day. Then they had the
- 36:33Speaker 5: game that they I think they've lost back to back
- 36:36Speaker 5: games now. They lost the game to Pittsburgh where they
- 36:40Speaker 5: were kind of plotting offensively and they were just flat
- 36:43Speaker 5: out bad offensively in the game against the Eagles on
- 36:45Speaker 5: the Thursday night. Part of that is road Thursday night
- 36:48Speaker 5: thing too. Let's see what happens the rest of the way.
- 36:50Speaker 5: With Kingsbury, I think that he's good. I think he
- 36:54Speaker 5: has like sort of the New Age college type schemes
- 36:58Speaker 5: that he likes to throw out there. I'm not you know,
- 37:01Speaker 5: Evan will obviously be able to speak to greater detail
- 37:03Speaker 5: than I would on that, but I do think his
- 37:06Speaker 5: reputation in Arizona was really fast starts offensively, they kind
- 37:11Speaker 5: of figure him out and then it's not as good. Yeah,
- 37:14Speaker 5: a lot of like what we talk about with Miami,
- 37:16Speaker 5: with McDaniel, you know, they always seem to get off
- 37:19Speaker 5: to a really good start offensively. And you know, I
- 37:22Speaker 5: think people blame the weather more so from Miami. They
- 37:25Speaker 5: can't play in bad weather.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I mean, you know, we're talking about how good would
- 37:30Speaker 3: Drake may be if Klin Kingsbury had him from week
- 37:34Speaker 3: one and he was starting for a week one. How
- 37:35Speaker 3: much better would AVP have had him if he had
- 37:38Speaker 3: a week to start right, you know, like give a
- 37:41Speaker 3: VP a chance like he's doing fall Yeah, say uh,
- 37:47Speaker 3: Jeff in Canada though, although it's unfair to make this
- 37:51Speaker 3: assumption already, but if Poke and Baker were to stay
- 37:54Speaker 3: on the track that they're on, they'll be busts that
- 37:56Speaker 3: would solidify that the new regime picked up where the
- 37:59Speaker 3: previous regime left off with a complete blind spot to
- 38:02Speaker 3: drafting and signing wide receivers. It seems they can only
- 38:05Speaker 3: do smaller chain mover guys, and even those are hit
- 38:09Speaker 3: and miss. What can be done about this? Can the
- 38:12Speaker 3: organization go out and hire a wide receiver guru who
- 38:15Speaker 3: can just tell them who to draft? It doesn't seem
- 38:18Speaker 3: that hard, but it is for the Patriots.
- 38:23Speaker 5: I mean, I can't argue with the resultso there. I
- 38:26Speaker 5: just don't think it's because they I don't. I don't
- 38:31Speaker 5: think it's because Elliott Wolf should be blamed for all
- 38:36Speaker 5: of the other failures. Like I don't think Elliott Wolf
- 38:39Speaker 5: had anything to do with Chad Jackson or Aaron Dobson.
- 38:44Speaker 5: I don't think he really had a whole lot to
- 38:45Speaker 5: do with Taekwan Thornton. You know. But obviously they picked
- 38:50Speaker 5: Polk and Baker, and right now neither one of them
- 38:52Speaker 5: looks like.
- 38:53Speaker 3: I don't include Baker. In Baker, it's.
- 38:57Speaker 5: A sixth round pick, right fourth?
- 38:59Speaker 3: Oh, he was fourth, whom I think Belle was six, seventh, seventh?
- 39:04Speaker 3: Who was the sixth for this year?
- 39:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know maybe it was Belle. Maybe he
- 39:10Speaker 5: was a sixth round pick. I don't know. But though
- 39:13Speaker 5: you know Douglas and Booty with sixth round picks last
- 39:16Speaker 5: year as receivers, and I said this, I know in
- 39:21Speaker 5: previous shows, like I do think part of the problem
- 39:24Speaker 5: with perception of those guys as that it's where you
- 39:27Speaker 5: get to.
- 39:27Speaker 3: You know, like, sure, well it should. I mean, if
- 39:30Speaker 3: you're going to use a second round pick on anybody,
- 39:32Speaker 3: he should be pretty.
- 39:33Speaker 5: If Paishan Booty was the second round pick, people would
- 39:35Speaker 5: think he was a bust. But right now people are
- 39:37Speaker 5: excited about him. He's a sixth round pick who kind
- 39:39Speaker 5: of looked like he resurrected his career. He's made some
- 39:42Speaker 5: plays and people are excited. Okay if he was okay,
- 39:46Speaker 5: it's a cornerback.
- 39:47Speaker 3: Yeah, so.
- 39:51Speaker 5: I there's no call. I'm not trying to make excuses
- 39:55Speaker 5: for Jalen Polk. He hasn't he hasn't played.
- 39:57Speaker 3: It's not about the player, it's about the evaluation.
- 39:59Speaker 5: And I think that that clouds it a little bit, like, well,
- 40:03Speaker 5: look at how good Douglas and Baker and Booty are,
- 40:05Speaker 5: well are they or are they just playing really well
- 40:08Speaker 5: for six round picks.
- 40:10Speaker 3: I think, I think Douglas is playing pretty well.
- 40:13Speaker 5: But if he was a second round pick, would you
- 40:15Speaker 5: say the same thing. I wouldn't.
- 40:17Speaker 3: I'd expect a little bit more.
- 40:18Speaker 5: I'd spend a lot more out of them. Yeah, yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 5: that's that's like all My point is, Like, I'm not
- 40:25Speaker 5: saying that Polk.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Would be Polk isn't playing well for a six round pick.
- 40:30Speaker 3: That's the problem.
- 40:31Speaker 5: I think if you got two touchdowns out of your
- 40:34Speaker 5: rookie sixth round pick in spot duty, I think you'd
- 40:36Speaker 5: be like something the mis not what I'm just saying.
- 40:40Speaker 5: Maybe maybe people would look at it a little bit
- 40:42Speaker 5: differently because they wouldn't have the expectations they would be
- 40:45Speaker 5: part of that. That that that I think is the
- 40:48Speaker 5: unfair expectations a little bit is us the media. Sure,
- 40:52Speaker 5: the media put this guy on a level based on
- 40:54Speaker 5: training camp that I thought was absurd.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Well, also based on his production it.
- 40:59Speaker 5: You know in Washington, he was a third receiver in Washington,
- 41:02Speaker 5: but he had numbers. Yeah, in an offense that threw
- 41:05Speaker 5: the ball every play, Okay, but he caught it, you know. Yeah,
- 41:09Speaker 5: he was never the best. Like if you looked at
- 41:11Speaker 5: him in college, you you got fooled by that because
- 41:15Speaker 5: it was a doomsday and he only even got a
- 41:17Speaker 5: role because McMillan got.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Hurt, right, And when he got hurt, he came in
- 41:20Speaker 3: and he he.
- 41:22Speaker 5: Was He was fine as fine can be.
- 41:25Speaker 3: He came in with good, good reputation for being a
- 41:28Speaker 3: hands guy.
- 41:29Speaker 5: Yep, you know, And that's what I saw in the summer. Yeah,
- 41:31Speaker 5: I didn't see an elite guy. The way people were
- 41:34Speaker 5: talking about him.
- 41:35Speaker 3: Well, he didn't have a chance. I don't. I know.
- 41:37Speaker 5: In the summer people were talking about him. This is
- 41:39Speaker 5: no this guy is going to hit the ground run.
- 41:41Speaker 5: I agree.
- 41:42Speaker 3: He didn't do amazing things in the summer. I agree,
- 41:45Speaker 3: but he also wasn't making the mistakes that he's making now.
- 41:47Speaker 3: Like something's happened. It's the bill Blast disease. He's wearing bad.
- 41:52Speaker 5: Clothes regular season. So he's playing against NFL players.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Now, well maybe that could be it, but I mean
- 41:58Speaker 3: playing against regularly, that doesn't mean you have to go
- 42:01Speaker 3: off side. It doesn't mean you have to.
- 42:03Speaker 5: Can we separate, like fall start penalty from him ten catches?
- 42:07Speaker 3: I'm not going to get that because that's limiting his time.
- 42:11Speaker 5: I feeling much more well he'd have more reps O
- 42:15Speaker 5: day thirty six snaps he got the other day. He
- 42:18Speaker 5: didn't get benched because he got a fall start penalty.
- 42:21Speaker 5: I'm not I'm not excusing the false start, but I'm
- 42:24Speaker 5: much more concerned about target. That's my That's what I'm
- 42:27Speaker 5: concerned with, because they don't trust because she doesn't get open.
- 42:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't, I don't know. I No, we're fighting.
- 42:36Speaker 5: No, we're not fighting about no.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Is here. Look who's back from the locker room.
- 42:44Speaker 9: What was the mood where the player is friendly to that?
- 42:47Speaker 3: None of them look like demk Henry, Hey, Mike, What
- 42:51Speaker 3: was it like in the locker room?
- 42:56Speaker 1: What was it like in the.
- 43:00Speaker 3: You know what I think we should have along with
- 43:02Speaker 3: the song is while the songs playing, animation of Mike
- 43:06Speaker 3: in the locker room, just kind of Sasha, you know,
- 43:10Speaker 3: with the recorder recorder out.
- 43:13Speaker 4: Walking like little animation.
- 43:17Speaker 3: You know, that's great love.
- 43:18Speaker 4: I thought you were saying.
- 43:19Speaker 3: Something that would match the flow of the song.
- 43:21Speaker 10: Just nice.
- 43:22Speaker 4: I get a lot of emails on Twitter, emails on Twitter,
- 43:25Speaker 4: you know whatever, uh saying people like why am I
- 43:28Speaker 4: walking around my house singing that side?
- 43:29Speaker 5: So it's a good song.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe Jill needs to like repurpose it and put
- 43:33Speaker 4: it out as like not about me single, a single
- 43:35Speaker 4: as a song, you know, to change the words.
- 43:37Speaker 5: Does that about Evan's back from practice can be the
- 43:39Speaker 5: B side? No?
- 43:41Speaker 3: Oh no, yeah.
- 43:46Speaker 5: Do you see that, Deuce? I mean, Matt, I suggested
- 43:48Speaker 5: to Deuce that we put Evan on the B side.
- 43:50Speaker 5: He gave me the stink face, gave me to get
- 43:53Speaker 5: the gas.
- 43:54Speaker 1: You think dayside material.
- 43:56Speaker 5: This is this is my show.
- 43:59Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of quiet today. I'm not gonna lie
- 44:03Speaker 4: to you. I got kind of a bad vibe about
- 44:05Speaker 4: this game this week. I mean, I don't want to.
- 44:07Speaker 4: I was already in that place before.
- 44:08Speaker 5: We went in. You had mentioned it on the way
- 44:10Speaker 5: got over there.
- 44:11Speaker 4: But now it's kind of quiet in the locker room,
- 44:13Speaker 4: even like you already said, it's a low key today.
- 44:15Speaker 4: But we did get a cavalcade of guys coming through
- 44:18Speaker 4: us as we are on on Wednesdays now, so it's
- 44:20Speaker 4: usually four or five guys, you know, July to I
- 44:24Speaker 4: it seems so, I don't know, maybe it's because Dan
- 44:26Speaker 4: Roach is leading all these things off with like you
- 44:27Speaker 4: guys haven't won Miami in like five years. Why you know,
- 44:30Speaker 4: so I think, you know, Tony Gibson's like, I don't know.
- 44:33Speaker 4: I wasn't here, man, you know, so I don't know
- 44:35Speaker 4: if it was some of the tenor of the questions.
- 44:37Speaker 3: I just I get so bored with the TV low
- 44:41Speaker 3: hanging fruit, you know, sound bites.
- 44:44Speaker 5: So you know, now I have the reputation he's but
- 44:48Speaker 5: just so critical me be a little bit more creative, and.
- 44:53Speaker 4: You know, anyway, anyway, I know, well the players weren't
- 44:56Speaker 4: having it either, to be honest. So but you know,
- 44:59Speaker 4: just a lot of questions about Tua and the offense.
- 45:02Speaker 4: And I thought the quote of the day though, was
- 45:04Speaker 4: Jonathan Jones was a good one.
- 45:06Speaker 11: Uh.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Clinice's own Taylor Kyle's asked him, you know, do you
- 45:09Speaker 4: feel a little level of comfortability now that you face
- 45:12Speaker 4: these guys a couple of times in John Joe's cose,
- 45:14Speaker 4: do you ever get comfortable with a bullet coming at
- 45:16Speaker 4: you with a little extreme Uh? Later he like was like, well,
- 45:19Speaker 4: bull of train or you know, you could walk to back.
- 45:21Speaker 4: But I thought it was a good, you know, a
- 45:22Speaker 4: good quote overall.
- 45:23Speaker 5: Just it's a great quote, I understand, and his he
- 45:26Speaker 5: probably immediately bullets was taken back with the PC police,
- 45:30Speaker 5: but you.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Get it with Tyreek Hill because he is coming at
- 45:32Speaker 4: you like a bullet.
- 45:33Speaker 5: And like, I'm pretty sure that Gonzo and Jonathan Jones
- 45:37Speaker 5: do not ever feel comfortable when those when they're trying
- 45:40Speaker 5: to face those.
- 45:41Speaker 4: And he talked about, you know, just the late motion
- 45:42Speaker 4: right at the snap where they're already at full speed.
- 45:45Speaker 4: But you know, everything you'd expect to hear about this
- 45:47Speaker 4: Miami offensive of you know, it's a finely tuned machine.
- 45:49Speaker 4: It's you know, key On White talking about how hard
- 45:52Speaker 4: it is to get to it quick enough to affect him.
- 45:55Speaker 4: Jonathan Jones talked a little bit about being physical with
- 45:57Speaker 4: the guys, trying to disrupt the timing, trying to get
- 46:00Speaker 4: in passing lanes. But just in their answers, you can
- 46:03Speaker 4: hear how difficult it is to tell.
- 46:05Speaker 3: So if you're McDaniel and you scouted last week's game
- 46:11Speaker 3: and you saw the problems that the Patriots had with
- 46:14Speaker 3: the Rams motion, do you say, Okay, we're going to
- 46:17Speaker 3: do the same thing, or oh, this week they're going
- 46:19Speaker 3: to be extra careful and they're going to have an
- 46:22Speaker 3: answer for motion, or do you just say we're just
- 46:24Speaker 3: better than that doesn't matter. They're not going to be
- 46:26Speaker 3: able to handle.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Us kind of be I think, I don't know, I mean,
- 46:29Speaker 4: I just I respect this offense. I'm sure they saw
- 46:31Speaker 4: things on tape that they want to try to attack,
- 46:33Speaker 4: but at the end of the day, to me, just
- 46:35Speaker 4: the basic Miami offense of what they do is going
- 46:38Speaker 4: to give the Patriots plenty of problems.
- 46:39Speaker 5: Yeah, and one thing, you know, sort.
- 46:41Speaker 3: Of I'm just Alex Austin though, secrets.
- 46:43Speaker 5: When you come back brought up, you know, the different
- 46:46Speaker 5: possibilities in the game plan. It did remind me of
- 46:49Speaker 5: one element of Mayo to that I didn't mention, was,
- 46:52Speaker 5: you know, he was sort of asked some follow ups
- 46:54Speaker 5: on the Rams stuff and the Cup Nakoula sort of yeah,
- 46:59Speaker 5: you know issue from last week, and that Gerrod was
- 47:03Speaker 5: a little give a little pushback to that, like, you know,
- 47:07Speaker 5: the majority, I think the way he said it was
- 47:09Speaker 5: the majority of man to man snaps. They had Gonzales
- 47:13Speaker 5: on one of them, and then basically he was saying
- 47:18Speaker 5: on zones there's not really a whole lot you can
- 47:19Speaker 5: do about it. Yeah, But so I think I think
- 47:23Speaker 5: the whole nother which has kind of been my thing,
- 47:25Speaker 5: like I don't know how we've gone a whole season
- 47:29Speaker 5: with every time the pass gets completed. It has nothing
- 47:31Speaker 5: to do with our better guys, you know. And I
- 47:34Speaker 5: just feel like the secondary as a whole has struggled.
- 47:37Speaker 5: But somehow none of this is attached to Jonathan Jones
- 47:42Speaker 5: and and you know this week it was in Christian
- 47:44Speaker 5: Gonzalez and even to a lesser extent, Marcus Jones. Like
- 47:48Speaker 5: they're all out there, they're all giving up plays at times.
- 47:51Speaker 5: And you could say that Gonzalez has given up the
- 47:53Speaker 5: fewest of those three, and I would agree. I think
- 47:56Speaker 5: Gonzalez has been the best player by far of those three.
- 47:59Speaker 5: But I think Mayo gave a little pushback on that
- 48:02Speaker 5: today with the heat that well, I think question Marcus
- 48:05Speaker 5: Covington's getting. You know, let's just look.
- 48:07Speaker 3: At the last four years, you know, with Bill and
- 48:11Speaker 3: after losses, whatever the failing was, it's it was mostly
- 48:14Speaker 3: the offense, obviously. And I did the media get as
- 48:19Speaker 3: much in the weeds X and O with Bill as
- 48:22Speaker 3: they are now with with.
- 48:24Speaker 5: Girod Asking the questions yeah to Bill questions, No, it's
- 48:27Speaker 5: a good question for it.
- 48:28Speaker 4: I don't think they did a little more empowered to
- 48:30Speaker 4: speak X and o's too, because Bill didn't Hall of
- 48:33Speaker 4: Fame coach.
- 48:34Speaker 3: And maybe it is what I'm saying.
- 48:37Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, No, well he doesn't have to answer it. No,
- 48:42Speaker 5: they're going to ask him the questions that they stopped
- 48:44Speaker 5: at Bill. They used to ask Bill those questions and
- 48:47Speaker 5: he batted them away. Yeah, and then most of those
- 48:50Speaker 5: people stopped doing it. Now some of the people that
- 48:52Speaker 5: are asking questions weren't around for to ask Bill questions.
- 48:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 5: Some of these guys, some of these all twenty two
- 48:59Speaker 5: guys are newer and didn't really ask Bill any questions.
- 49:02Speaker 10: Yeah, Evan's got good stories about that.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Haven't did it a few times and he said again,
- 49:08Speaker 5: haven't said, I'm not doing that anymore. Yeah, yeah, because
- 49:11Speaker 5: Evan was smart.
- 49:12Speaker 3: But like you said, they feel empowered or comfortable to
- 49:16Speaker 3: ask questions technical questions about the failings. But I don't
- 49:21Speaker 3: think they Bill.
- 49:23Speaker 5: I agree with you. I don't think they would ask
- 49:24Speaker 5: that or not anymore.
- 49:26Speaker 4: Kind of people on the beat, who are you interested
- 49:28Speaker 4: in that side of the game and that kind of minutia,
- 49:30Speaker 4: And some of those people put out those narratives in
- 49:33Speaker 4: the wake of losses, and then it becomes a talking point,
- 49:37Speaker 4: like the boundary thing, and you know, and you know,
- 49:39Speaker 4: how like how many of these guys really know what that?
- 49:41Speaker 5: I've said it many times, you know, and people don't
- 49:44Speaker 5: want to hear me criticize and I don't mean it,
- 49:46Speaker 5: but like it's just a difference. I'm not telling you
- 49:48Speaker 5: it's right or wrong. How's that for not being critical?
- 49:51Speaker 5: But there's a different approach. And I think there's more
- 49:55Speaker 5: and more people now that come into the beats on
- 49:58Speaker 5: all of the sports and they're a fan of the sport.
- 50:01Speaker 5: They're not a fan of the job. They're not a
- 50:04Speaker 5: fan of journalism. They're a fan of I know, football.
- 50:09Speaker 5: Like that's that's not the requirement and that's not the recure.
- 50:13Speaker 5: It's not the only thing that you I'm not telling
- 50:15Speaker 5: you you shouldn't know what a first down is, but
- 50:17Speaker 5: you don't need to know the EPA minus plus net
- 50:23Speaker 5: neutral of every player to be able to be a
- 50:27Speaker 5: journalist and find out what's ticking in the locker room. Right,
- 50:30Speaker 5: Like Mike comes out of the locker room and says
- 50:32Speaker 5: he felt like it was a little bit more of
- 50:34Speaker 5: a low key vibe, whereas one of those guys that
- 50:36Speaker 5: come out and say you know, they got too much
- 50:38Speaker 5: boundary corner issues with you know, on the three technique
- 50:41Speaker 5: on the inside ship. Like that's not helping anybody but you.
- 50:45Speaker 5: It's feeding your ego because you think that you can
- 50:48Speaker 5: talk exes and o's with an NFL coach. You can't,
- 50:51Speaker 5: but you think you can because you read a book
- 50:54Speaker 5: or you took a scouting class. Like, that's not the
- 50:57Speaker 5: same thing, right, And that's why I think when you lose,
- 51:01Speaker 5: Like when you win, it's great because no one cares.
- 51:04Speaker 5: But when you lose, people want to know why.
- 51:06Speaker 3: They want to be the reporter and the expert, you.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Know, right, And I don't think there are very many
- 51:13Speaker 5: reporters left. They're just experts, right. And I'm not telling
- 51:16Speaker 5: you they all know what they're talking about.
- 51:18Speaker 3: Experts with quotations.
- 51:20Speaker 5: And I'm not telling you that none of those guys
- 51:22Speaker 5: that they know a lot more about the ex's and
- 51:24Speaker 5: no's than I'll ever drink. Yeah, and the terminology and
- 51:27Speaker 5: I don't, well, I know the terminology. I just don't
- 51:29Speaker 5: care about not some of this stuff. There's a difference.
- 51:32Speaker 5: There's a difference not caring and not knowing the two
- 51:35Speaker 5: different things. I don't think that helps me do my
- 51:38Speaker 5: job better. I think sort of listening to Mike tell
- 51:41Speaker 5: me what the mood is like in the locker room
- 51:43Speaker 5: and what the tenor of the players is helps me.
- 51:46Speaker 5: I talked to Mike g Reese about that stuff all
- 51:48Speaker 5: the time on Tuesdays when we do our because I'm
- 51:50Speaker 5: not always in there. That's when I when I used
- 51:52Speaker 5: to go in all the time. That's what I was
- 51:55Speaker 5: focusing on, not you know, like, yeah, I used to
- 51:59Speaker 5: do something. I don't know, you might not remember this, Fred,
- 52:01Speaker 5: but I used to do something like we did a
- 52:03Speaker 5: matchup of the week, like sort of one little ex'es
- 52:05Speaker 5: and those kind of like nugget and I used to
- 52:07Speaker 5: always like to talk to Steph Gilmour about it because
- 52:09Speaker 5: I always would say, like, he's going to get the
- 52:11Speaker 5: other team's best with you. You know, That's when I got,
- 52:14Speaker 5: you know, sort of little insight into Stefan Gilmore's thoughts
- 52:17Speaker 5: of Smith Schuster. You know, they lo they lost, they
- 52:25Speaker 5: lost Antonio Brown Pittsburgh. Remember they were playing Pittsburgh in
- 52:28Speaker 5: the first game of the year one year, and you
- 52:30Speaker 5: know it's like Gilmore and sit, Yeah, I said, no,
- 52:34Speaker 5: they're not worried about this matchup at all because you
- 52:37Speaker 5: get a flip. It's not because they're not worried about
- 52:40Speaker 5: this matchup because of the inside shade technique that Gilmore
- 52:44Speaker 5: excels at really hurts Juju Smith Schuster's ability to get
- 52:50Speaker 5: off the line of scrimmage and beat press man coverage
- 52:53Speaker 5: and you know, play the boundary side. Like, That's not
- 52:56Speaker 5: why I felt good about it. I felt good about
- 52:57Speaker 5: it because I saw sort of the reaction that Gilmore
- 53:00Speaker 5: gave me. Yeah, like he ain't, he ain't Antonio Brown,
- 53:03Speaker 5: I don't have to worry about this.
- 53:04Speaker 4: Yeah, that's definitely more of the side I go to.
- 53:06Speaker 4: I feel like though, I'm just like I like watching
- 53:09Speaker 4: the All twenty two film afterwards, Like I just I
- 53:11Speaker 4: like to go back and watch the game again. There's
- 53:12Speaker 4: so much happening. I feel like I miss things. I
- 53:14Speaker 4: feel like I slow it down.
- 53:15Speaker 5: I'm able to watch absolutely a great thing to do.
- 53:17Speaker 4: I've never been comfortable trying to do what Evan does,
- 53:20Speaker 4: which is trying to explain it to people. And I
- 53:22Speaker 4: understand all these terms, like I've heard all of them enough,
- 53:25Speaker 4: I've read enough books, but I've just never been one
- 53:28Speaker 4: to try to Now I'm going to explain it to
- 53:30Speaker 4: all you guys, you know, and that's that's what's been
- 53:32Speaker 4: hard for me. I feel like it saved me. But
- 53:34Speaker 4: what I love about football though, is that there's so
- 53:36Speaker 4: many different ways to cover this game. And sometimes I
- 53:38Speaker 4: wonder like if I was covering hockey, which is, you know,
- 53:40Speaker 4: probably the only other sport I feel really confident that
- 53:42Speaker 4: I know really well, it would just be so different.
- 53:45Speaker 4: There's like it's kind of like because hockey is just
- 53:46Speaker 4: so fluid and it's like, yeah, that guy fell down,
- 53:49Speaker 4: Like well, that's not like some big schematic like adjustment
- 53:52Speaker 4: that the coaches didn't do during the week, you know, And.
- 53:54Speaker 5: That's you know, what they do in that sport. Now,
- 53:56Speaker 5: the course they're on the internet with the Fenwick and
- 53:59Speaker 5: the course and all these different you know, analytics about
- 54:02Speaker 5: puck possession and you know expected save percentage like mm hmmm, yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 5: and that's whole Did he did he beat the guy? Why?
- 54:11Speaker 3: But like the defense I can't understand like reviewing the
- 54:15Speaker 3: game all twenty two to see yeah that was a
- 54:17Speaker 3: good block or this guy was showfield or that, you know,
- 54:20Speaker 3: But to me, for me, I would draw the line
- 54:24Speaker 3: like able to look at all twenty two and say, oh,
- 54:27Speaker 3: here's what they were trying to do on this play.
- 54:29Speaker 3: How do you know? Yeah, how do you know that
- 54:32Speaker 3: this guy wasn't on the wrong page and what it
- 54:35Speaker 3: looks like he was trying to do was off the reservation,
- 54:38Speaker 3: you know, Like so totally agree. That's where I draw
- 54:41Speaker 3: the line. It's it's to me, it's good to see
- 54:43Speaker 3: like who did what on the play, but the why
- 54:46Speaker 3: that's up for the coaches. But like you don't know why.
- 54:49Speaker 5: So back to something that Fred and I talked about being,
- 54:51Speaker 5: you know, Joe Douglas got fired with the Jets and
- 54:53Speaker 5: blah blah blah blah blah. Like to me, I would
- 54:55Speaker 5: if I'm a fan of the Jets, I'm far more
- 54:58Speaker 5: fascinated with that nugget that we talked about that the
- 55:00Speaker 5: Athletics said that Woody Johnson around the time that they
- 55:05Speaker 5: fired Salah wanted to bench wanted them to bench Aaron Rodgers.
- 55:08Speaker 5: Oh interesting, Like I don't need like I don't need
- 55:12Speaker 5: all the stats. I don't need all I didn't I
- 55:14Speaker 5: don't need the route combinations and you know what the
- 55:18Speaker 5: the that's drop that's turmoil that why did they go
- 55:22Speaker 5: one in six and the next seven because the the
- 55:25Speaker 5: organization is not on the same page, right, like the
- 55:28Speaker 5: owner wants to make a move at quarterback. Evidently, according
- 55:31Speaker 5: to the report, the coaches were kind of left to
- 55:33Speaker 5: look like was he serious about that? Like, did you
- 55:36Speaker 5: seriously want us to do that?
- 55:37Speaker 12: Right?
- 55:38Speaker 5: Like that's a mess. Yeah, that's dysfunction. To your point, Fred,
- 55:43Speaker 5: why are the Jets of the Jets? Why haven't they
- 55:44Speaker 5: wont Because it's just another year of utter dysfunction with
- 55:48Speaker 5: the Jets. I don't need like to break down the
- 55:52Speaker 5: all twenty two to see that Sauce Gardner's not playing
- 55:55Speaker 5: anywhere near the level he played it his first couple
- 55:57Speaker 5: of years. That they're dysfunctional mess.
- 56:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:00Speaker 4: And the crazy thing is if they had bench Rogers,
- 56:02Speaker 4: they'd still be a dysfunctional mess. Like that would be
- 56:05Speaker 4: problem too. So like they were just I actually saying
- 56:08Speaker 4: it to Laine last night, were talking. I don't why
- 56:09Speaker 4: we're talking about it, but it's like all summer we
- 56:11Speaker 4: just said, I don't know, but the Jets are the Jets.
- 56:15Speaker 5: You guys told me and I didn't. I gotta be
- 56:17Speaker 5: I have to be honest. As much as I hate
- 56:18Speaker 5: Daran Rodgers, I did not envision this. I was wrong
- 56:21Speaker 5: on that. I thought he'd be better. I didn't think
- 56:23Speaker 5: the Jets. I thought Buffalo would win the division, but
- 56:25Speaker 5: I thought the Jets would be right in line for
- 56:27Speaker 5: a playoff spot. I didn't envision a total system failure
- 56:32Speaker 5: like at a lot of ever did a lot of
- 56:34Speaker 5: other people did, so, you know, hats off to all
- 56:37Speaker 5: you guys.
- 56:39Speaker 4: But there was just I feel like a lot of
- 56:41Speaker 4: it was just like, I don't I don't have a
- 56:43Speaker 4: reason for it.
- 56:43Speaker 10: I'm just gonna that's what I said.
- 56:46Speaker 5: That's that's not necessarily a prediction.
- 56:47Speaker 4: They got the talent. I mean, could probably people on
- 56:51Speaker 4: the fence with Robert Salak coming into this year anyway
- 56:54Speaker 4: a little bit. But that was more just but.
- 56:56Speaker 5: Like, to me, to find out that kind of information
- 56:59Speaker 5: about my team, that's reporting. That's to me far more
- 57:03Speaker 5: valuable than what the beat writer thought of the game plan. Yeah,
- 57:08Speaker 5: do you know what I mean?
- 57:09Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, it's like the old fable the scorpion and
- 57:14Speaker 3: the toad. I think it's like the toad asked the
- 57:17Speaker 3: scorpion for a ride across the river, and uh, you know,
- 57:23Speaker 3: halfway through, the scorpion stings thee and tells like, dude,
- 57:26Speaker 3: what are you doing? Like I'm helping you? Goes, Well,
- 57:29Speaker 3: you knew I was a scorpion when you asked me,
- 57:31Speaker 3: what did you expect? Knew they were the Jets when
- 57:34Speaker 3: it happened, like, what did you expect?
- 57:36Speaker 4: Usually, when I hear that fable, it's a snake.
- 57:38Speaker 3: It could be a snake road degre I heard it with.
- 57:40Speaker 4: The score, somebody finds a wounded snake on the road
- 57:43Speaker 4: and back to health.
- 57:44Speaker 3: And then.
- 57:46Speaker 5: Yeah, aarons what I did?
- 57:48Speaker 4: Rodgers bit him?
- 57:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm a snake. I bite you. We're the Jets.
- 57:50Speaker 3: We screw up.
- 57:51Speaker 5: I am what I am?
- 57:52Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. All right, let's see if we can get
- 57:55Speaker 3: the TPX outline working. It's my keys from Philadelphia. What's up, Marquis?
- 58:02Speaker 3: Oh no really, Oh that's too bad. I can't hear
- 58:08Speaker 3: your Marquis. Sorry. Oh he's not there.
- 58:11Speaker 5: Oh okay, I did.
- 58:13Speaker 3: He wasn't on the line that long.
- 58:15Speaker 4: Maybe he was just people from Philadelphia a little impatient.
- 58:17Speaker 3: We were talking Santa, you know. The twenty five semi
- 58:22Speaker 3: finalists came out yep, yep. In my opinion of the list,
- 58:26Speaker 3: Adam is the only lock.
- 58:27Speaker 4: Oh wow, Yeah, NFL's all time leading scorer.
- 58:30Speaker 3: Paul thinks Eli Manning should be in. Oh boy says
- 58:37Speaker 3: from tem Broke. He says, if Eli Manning, a man
- 58:39Speaker 3: who has two seasons with twenty plus interceptions and only
- 58:43Speaker 3: had less than ten interceptions in two seasons where he
- 58:46Speaker 3: didn't play more than ten games, gets into the Hall
- 58:48Speaker 3: of Fame before Vinitary or Harrison, then the Hall loses
- 58:52Speaker 3: all its credibility.
- 58:55Speaker 5: Well, I don't think Eli Manning should be a Hall
- 58:57Speaker 5: of Famer.
- 58:57Speaker 3: So I don't either. And you brought him up.
- 58:59Speaker 5: No, I brought him up because you said that he
- 59:01Speaker 5: made Adam vinit Erry, it was great. Great. Fred and
- 59:06Speaker 5: Paul argument, Yeah, like we both think he should be
- 59:08Speaker 5: a first ballot Hall of Famer.
- 59:09Speaker 3: But we still argue.
- 59:10Speaker 5: But Fred said he's the greatest kicker who ever lived.
- 59:15Speaker 5: And I said, well, he's the greatest clutch kicker that
- 59:19Speaker 5: ever lived. That's not exactly the same thing. And he said,
- 59:22Speaker 5: well it is. He made those two kicks. I go, Lee,
- 59:25Speaker 5: Eli Manning made those two throws to win two Super Bowls?
- 59:28Speaker 5: So does that mean he should go? And then of
- 59:31Speaker 5: course we moved, you know, we moved it all around
- 59:33Speaker 5: the court. Arm but I do not believe that. I mean,
- 59:35Speaker 5: I totally recognize that Eli Manning his last name and
- 59:39Speaker 5: where he played, and I'm not stupid. I know he's
- 59:41Speaker 5: probably gonna go to the Hall of Fame. I don't
- 59:43Speaker 5: think he should be. I don't think he's a Hall
- 59:45Speaker 5: of Famer. I don't, But Adam Vina Terry, I don't
- 59:48Speaker 5: think there's an argument against.
- 59:50Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 59:50Speaker 5: I think he's a lock for the Hall of Fame.
- 59:52Speaker 3: And according to one emailer, he is the all time
- 59:55Speaker 3: point leader, leading scorer.
- 59:56Speaker 10: Y yeah, I wrote that this morning.
- 59:58Speaker 3: Do you think? And there it is?
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: It doesn't mean he's the best? Do you so?
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: He has the most points and he's the most clutch?
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: How what else? What are the criteria? Are you looking for?
- 1:00:09Speaker 5: Accuracy percentage?
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: Okay?
- 1:00:12Speaker 5: Who makes the most more often?
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: Well? Justin Tucker's not up yet.
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: Okay, but I'm not you're moving the goalposts. Ironically for
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: a dicker.
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: It's hard to do.
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: Shoot.
- 1:00:24Speaker 10: I was just gonna say, so, do you think.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: That the fact that Eli Manning beat an undefeated Patriots
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: team like that, like those.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Like I'm not saying it's ridiculous that he's he's under consideration,
- 1:00:37Speaker 5: But if you're me. Eli Manning isn't much different than
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: Philip Rivers or you know, we talked about Matthew Stafford
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: like they they're guys that were good players. Matter of fact,
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: I would put Rivers in Stafford over Eli Manning, but
- 1:00:52Speaker 5: they they were they were like kind of hallo, very good.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: Yeah, they're all of very good players.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: He's going in like you're not stupid. He's going in like.
- 1:01:02Speaker 4: There were so many random quarterbacks over those twenty plus
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: years that just went off against the Patriots at random times.
- 1:01:08Speaker 4: Like I just like I'm remembering like court Nick Foles
- 1:01:10Speaker 4: in the in the Super Bowl, but I'm remembering like
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: one of the backup like a J. Feely or something
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: like just the random quarterbacks they had like one totally
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: one as.
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: To the Patriots. He not just in the two.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Was here for the eleven game too that it to him.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: And he had another game that they that the Giants
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: actually lost because Gostowski made like a fifty five yard
- 1:01:30Speaker 5: field goal on at the buzzer at the Metal Lands.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Well even in Game sixteen in the regular season, it.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: Was just another yeah, yeah, you know, I Man played
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: well against the Patriots.
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: The king of those guys but he was actually, you know,
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: I'd say pretty good. But there were a lot of
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: other just random guys similar jeely did it you know
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: Matt Flynn on Green Bay yep?
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: Basically the contract with the Dan Conley game, yep, yep.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: It was the one in Chicago that their backup quarterback
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: gave us all kinds of fits. It was mid two thousand,
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: the odds, I forget it was.
- 1:02:04Speaker 10: A backups and Rex Grossman, right, no, I.
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: Forget, but it's like, why do we make these backup quarterbacks?
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: I know it happened like you would think, just like
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: the Dynasty of twenty years and every time they played
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: a crap.
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: Matthews that could have been that rings a belly something
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: like that. Anyway, former Florida Kyle says back to the
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: Patriots with the nice weather of Miami in May, being
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: from the Carolinas, do you think he could have a
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: career day three hundred yards three plus touchdowns this Sunday?
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: I think Drake can have a really good game this week.
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: I just don't know if he can have a good
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: enough game to win the win the game because I
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: don't know if they can keep up with Miami. I
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: just but I I feel like I'm expecting to see
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: good things out of Drake.
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: I'm not expecting to see a bad offensive performance, not
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: after what they did against the Rams. I think the
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: Rams have a better defense than Miami does.
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: Yep.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: And I you know, I think that the weather. Yeah,
- 1:02:57Speaker 5: it's I mean, he's used to playing you know, he's
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: used to playing down there. I don't think the weather
- 1:03:03Speaker 5: will be a factor.
- 1:03:04Speaker 4: Yeah, Jonathan Jones throwing some shade at the fact that
- 1:03:07Speaker 4: there is no shade for the visiting team down there,
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: and you know, he's saying, part of what makes it
- 1:03:11Speaker 4: hard to play down there, that's one little element of
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: the layout of the stadium.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: Isn't that one of the reasons that that we built
- 1:03:17Speaker 5: the stadium the way we did too for the wind
- 1:03:20Speaker 5: well in the the sun.
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: I think I think that was.
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: I think you always build a stadium north south.
- 1:03:27Speaker 5: No, but we have the side with the sun.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: Oh why we sit that side?
- 1:03:31Speaker 13: Oh?
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: Yeah, that was intentional. Yeah, I remember you because he
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: told me the story.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: But in the winter, don't you want to be in there?
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: And you also get closer to the locker locker room.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Yeah, they were never on the other side, though, right,
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: you can't because.
- 1:03:46Speaker 3: This stadium really don't have This stadium is built into
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: the side of granted, so a lot of stadiums have
- 1:03:52Speaker 3: full circle on their service tunnel our stops. Oh, I
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: didn't realize that's why it's on granted, because it's all
- 1:03:58Speaker 3: granted on this side.
- 1:04:00Speaker 10: Construction talk.
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: I like it Bedrock, maybe.
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: Mantle Ford and Savannah, Georgia. You've been in Savannah. It's
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: worth the trip.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: Savannah, I don't believe.
- 1:04:14Speaker 10: I have no it's a good place to visit.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: I haven't spent a ton of time in Georgia.
- 1:04:17Speaker 10: I went to Atlanta for the Olympics, and I.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Was in Atlanta for a Super Bowl. Mike, you wouldn't know,
- 1:04:21Speaker 5: but I don't know what that's like.
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: Savannah is very different than Atlanta. I knew Gerard's job
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: was going to be hard one because we were all
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: exposed to a masterclass in coaching for twenty plus years.
- 1:04:33Speaker 3: Like it or not, I feel like those of us
- 1:04:35Speaker 3: who watched closely all got an education in football, which
- 1:04:38Speaker 3: is probably colors the way we see the game. Whoever
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: coaches the Patriots is going to get a fan base
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: who at least think they know what they're talking about
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: for years to come. Do you agree?
- 1:04:48Speaker 4: I do agree, because I feel like I'm a prime
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: example of it. I mean I was one of the
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: reasons I wanted to learn more about football is everyone
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: talked about Bill Belichick being a genius, and that was
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: you know, maybe four h five that that period after
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: they won three Super Bowls, and I was just became
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: really curious about, well, what's he doing, Why is he
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: a genius? Like what is you know, I wanted to
- 1:05:07Speaker 4: I mean I played high school football, but you know,
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: never thought about x's and o's in terms of like
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: really being able to dominate a game. It just felt like, well,
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: here's your playbook and you're going to try to execute,
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: and they're going to try to execute. But you know,
- 1:05:18Speaker 4: it was the first time I realized that that there
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: could be an advantage, There could be curveballs, there could
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: be things that teams aren't expecting, and you know that
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: I was part of the reason I started to try
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: to learn more about the schematic stuff was because of
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Bill and his impact on this team.
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: Mike I made the announcement because we had an emailer
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: who asked me if I could rank my hated teams,
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: my most hated teams. So I'm doing it in the
- 1:05:42Speaker 3: newsletter this okay, all right, So I'm not gonna announce
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: it on the show, but if you get the newsletter
- 1:05:47Speaker 3: Hated Podcasts at Patriots dot com to get on the list,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: you'll get my list of most hated teams and why Yeah,
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: but Dan and Virginia in Michigan.
- 1:05:55Speaker 5: I'm just going to say so and so why because.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: Dan says it's not the Patriots, his friend's list that's
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: coming out Friday, his list of most hated teams as
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: leader of Pew Nation, or his personal list all time
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: of most hated teams person personal? How much does this
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: list overlap with Fred's fur and again lists from the
- 1:06:17Speaker 3: The Flake eight days? There might be a little, not
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: too much.
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: The only I want again that will be on this
- 1:06:25Speaker 5: list that I could think of.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: The only different The only hall of fame that Eli
- 1:06:30Speaker 3: Manning belongs is in the mouth breather Hall of Fame.
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: I'm not sure where that is located, but I'm guessing
- 1:06:35Speaker 3: it's in Florida somewhere.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: Yeh see. Now we're going to take it to the extreme,
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: like he doesn't even deserve consideration Now you know, I
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: personally like a small hall Fred and I are very
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: like minded, like you, Rodney, for you borderline candidate.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: That's why I asked, because I feel like he would
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: be for you.
- 1:06:53Speaker 10: That's why I.
- 1:06:54Speaker 3: Was Antonio Gates right, I'd love him to get loves.
- 1:07:00Speaker 10: Yeah, it's a good one. It's a good question for.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: You, Antonio Gates. Oh that's a that's a Hall of Famer.
- 1:07:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Emery writes in I'm surprised that Paul's headline from
- 1:07:10Speaker 3: Mayo's press conference today was cold strange. I thought for
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: sure he would have latched onto Mao saying it's in
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: their plan to eventually incorporate design runs for may. What
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: are your thoughts on that plan and what do you
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: see need to see to feel more comfortable with may running?
- 1:07:26Speaker 5: Interesting? It is absolutely an interesting nugget that I probably
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: should have brought up. I think the email is right.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: I didn't take it as strongly as he just explained
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: it though. The answer, Now, you was sitting next to me, Mike,
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: did you No?
- 1:07:37Speaker 4: Not really?
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: I mean I know that's something we Yeah, that's something
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: we could do.
- 1:07:40Speaker 4: I'm all for it. In the red zone, I'm all
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: for it. That you know, inside the five yard line.
- 1:07:44Speaker 4: We've talked about a bunch of times.
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: I'm all for that kind of like midfield though, And
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: the email is right, he said that's something that's definitely coming,
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: But I didn't really take it as something that was
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: all that.
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: Yeah, because they really haven't you know, done any like
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: option run.
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: They did it in the preseason and he easily walked
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: in against the Eagles. Yeah, so I wouldn't be surprised
- 1:08:03Speaker 5: to see something like that in the red zone.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I like what they're doing.
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: I don't.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: I don't. Everybody would lose, is you know what if
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: they started doing that, you.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Know, But I think we all want to see him
- 1:08:14Speaker 4: learn to play quarterback and that's you know, that's what
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: I've been most excited about with him. And it's nice
- 1:08:19Speaker 4: when you have that athleticism to pick up those you know,
- 1:08:22Speaker 4: downs where people are covered. But his progress in the
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: part and getting the ball out quick, like, those are
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: the things I'm here for. Like if they run an
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: RPO with him and he can you know or you know,
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: read option and he keeps it great in the red zone,
- 1:08:33Speaker 4: but I don't need to see it.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: And it's also it's it's great, you know, in the
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: short term, it's great if it succeeds. You know, you
- 1:08:41Speaker 5: need to be able to succeed in the regular way. Yeah,
- 1:08:47Speaker 5: did you watch the end of the Pittsburgh Baltimore excuse me,
- 1:08:51Speaker 5: Pittsburgh BALTI Well, I had a little burp from my DIAPEPSI.
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: I didn't want to like let it fly on the air.
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: So Ravens score with about a minute left down too,
- 1:09:01Speaker 5: they need a two point conversion. Lamar keeps it never
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: had a chance, Like, you need to find a way
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: to get those in without just relying on your quarterback.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: And I think they're probably trying to teach that first,
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: knowing they'll have this in their bag at some point.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: And again the email is right. Gerrod did say when
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: I think, I think Phil Perry asked him of it.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: In the way Phil brought it up, was that he
- 1:09:28Speaker 5: was scrambling a lot. But it seems like the last
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: two weeks that number has dropped a little bit. It's
- 1:09:33Speaker 5: been like three or four a game as opposed to
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: eight or nine. Might you say, well, he's not getting
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: hit as much, so maybe we can have him run. Yeah,
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: I think it's still probably not in the best interest
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: in getting him hit his you know as much.
- 1:09:46Speaker 10: No, no, no, don't want it.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: All right, we'll take a break. Let's see what do
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: I have here?
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: Any food?
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: No, I didn't want to food today. It wasn't too hungry.
- 1:09:56Speaker 5: Fred's Food's not here.
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: Ah, it's easy to drink, it's easy to enjoy. Bud Light,

- 1:12:11Speaker 5: Only what you saw last week from your team.
- 1:12:17Speaker 11: You talked a little bit about.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: A post game plays.
- 1:12:19Speaker 11: You feel like you're getting.
- 1:12:20Speaker 9: Closer, you know, and what is it maybe that's holding
- 1:12:23Speaker 9: you back a little bit in the red zones and
- 1:12:25Speaker 9: things like that to keep you guys optimal lot.
- 1:12:28Speaker 11: Yeah, I think we moved the ball well. You know,
- 1:12:29Speaker 11: I can think you know, the first of all the rams.
- 1:12:31Speaker 11: You know, if they are you know, good defense, are
- 1:12:32Speaker 11: good up front, you know, obviously he had some chances
- 1:12:37Speaker 11: and like I said, down there in the red zone,
- 1:12:38Speaker 11: if we've got you know, punched it in. I don't
- 1:12:39Speaker 11: think it was something that that they did. I think
- 1:12:42Speaker 11: it's just you know, on ourselves to you know, whether
- 1:12:44Speaker 11: it's you know, fight the extra, you know, go the extra,
- 1:12:47Speaker 11: go the extra effort, or maybe uh some little things
- 1:12:50Speaker 11: here or there. But I think we moved them all well.
- 1:12:52Speaker 11: And those guys you know, put some good film on tape.
- 1:12:55Speaker 11: So I think, you know, the end the game. We
- 1:12:56Speaker 11: had a chance there and put that on myself to
- 1:12:58Speaker 11: you know, go, you know, make a play down down
- 1:12:59Speaker 11: the stretch, and I got the ball in my hands
- 1:13:01Speaker 11: to win the game. You know, you want that scenario.
- 1:13:03Speaker 11: So I think we're right there. And like I said,
- 1:13:05Speaker 11: it's more successful in the red zone. I think, you know,
- 1:13:07Speaker 11: we've been striving on that and and focusing on that.
- 1:13:09Speaker 11: So I think maybe in red zone day this week
- 1:13:12Speaker 11: or just in general, just you know, study it more
- 1:13:14Speaker 11: and kind of put some more effort to trink.
- 1:13:17Speaker 5: You see, you can play last time the Hitchers played
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: the golfense.
- 1:13:20Speaker 15: Just what do you remember.
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: About that gam you know, when where did you learn?
- 1:13:23Speaker 10: You know, we'll sort of watching the sound.
- 1:13:25Speaker 11: Yeah, you know, I think they fly around, you know,
- 1:13:27Speaker 11: they get some some uh you know, I think if
- 1:13:30Speaker 11: every team who plays got a good good up front.
- 1:13:32Speaker 11: You know, they're good up front. You know, your class
- 1:13:34Speaker 11: Campbell is still making plays and they said, he's you know,
- 1:13:37Speaker 11: one of the nicest dudents in the league. But they're
- 1:13:38Speaker 11: still up there trying to take my head off. I'm sure.
- 1:13:40Speaker 11: So they're good. In the back end. They got some
- 1:13:43Speaker 11: better guys that have played a long time in this
- 1:13:45Speaker 11: league and are good players and same thing really in
- 1:13:48Speaker 11: the linebacker course, so we gotta we got a tall task.
- 1:13:51Speaker 11: But uh, I think starts with running the football. I
- 1:13:54Speaker 11: think every week you'll be able to run the football
- 1:13:56Speaker 11: and they're gonna make up some looks. So just taking
- 1:13:58Speaker 11: what they give me and UH just be smart, you know,
- 1:14:00Speaker 11: protecting the football.
- 1:14:01Speaker 15: When he comes to leadership, leadership skills specifically to.
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: An important leader for uh, it's a good question. Important
- 1:14:14Speaker 11: leader for me in my lifetime.
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: Coach.
- 1:14:20Speaker 11: Yeah, I mean I was being around sports. I just watching,
- 1:14:23Speaker 11: I say my dad, I'm just watching them now. And
- 1:14:25Speaker 11: a leader in the household, but a leader you know
- 1:14:27Speaker 11: in sports in gymeral he's always you know coaching us,
- 1:14:30Speaker 11: you know, growing up. And I think just the way
- 1:14:32Speaker 11: that he approached you know, you know, forcing me to
- 1:14:35Speaker 11: as a young age to get in the huddle and
- 1:14:37Speaker 11: say something to the team or break the team down
- 1:14:39Speaker 11: a little things at a young age, I think my
- 1:14:40Speaker 11: dad kind of introduced me some things because he played,
- 1:14:43Speaker 11: Uh played in a short shorts doun in the NFL
- 1:14:46Speaker 11: for a little bit. I was with Tampa Bay for
- 1:14:49Speaker 11: for a year. But playing in college and playing at
- 1:14:51Speaker 11: a high level. He kind of was introduced and was
- 1:14:53Speaker 11: able to introduce, you know, to his boys about how
- 1:14:56Speaker 11: to lead and what it takes and you know, what
- 1:14:58Speaker 11: you need and kind of what comes of it.
- 1:15:00Speaker 12: You've gotten a lot of praise for your field vision,
- 1:15:02Speaker 12: your processing. So I'm curious from your perspective, when you're
- 1:15:05Speaker 12: reading a defense in your head, is it, oh, er
- 1:15:07Speaker 12: cover two or cover three? Are you just reading space
- 1:15:09Speaker 12: and leverage or how are you really seeing the defense
- 1:15:11Speaker 12: and like going through your head?
- 1:15:13Speaker 11: Yeah, this kind of comes natural. I think you always
- 1:15:15Speaker 11: try to check, you know, the safety structure. I think
- 1:15:17Speaker 11: that helps any type of quarterback. But uh, I think
- 1:15:19Speaker 11: kind of the best thing is just just spatial reasoning,
- 1:15:21Speaker 11: like you said, seeing the space or seeing the guy,
- 1:15:23Speaker 11: and that also comes with you know, feeling the guy out,
- 1:15:26Speaker 11: you know pause, but uh, just to kind of see
- 1:15:28Speaker 11: how the rally's kind of run. And I think that
- 1:15:31Speaker 11: comes with the kind of time, Hey, you know, hunter
- 1:15:32Speaker 11: maybe doing this against this coverage or maybe versus man.
- 1:15:35Speaker 11: So they kind of just feeling out, you kind of
- 1:15:37Speaker 11: the guys and and seeing how they run routes for
- 1:15:39Speaker 11: a different you know, man and zone, and also just
- 1:15:42Speaker 11: getting reps at it. That's the biggest thing.
- 1:15:44Speaker 9: How much more complex is the post snap stuff at
- 1:15:47Speaker 9: this level compared to what you saw in North Carolina.
- 1:15:50Speaker 15: How has that kind of been coming.
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: To the six?
- 1:15:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I think these coordinators they try to do the
- 1:15:55Speaker 11: you know, the kind of the same type of stuff
- 1:15:56Speaker 11: post snap, and I think just the guys up front,
- 1:15:58Speaker 11: you know, make it a little tougher post snap in
- 1:16:00Speaker 11: the NFL, you know, I think you feel a little
- 1:16:01Speaker 11: more pressure for a little more heat. And obviously the
- 1:16:03Speaker 11: guys in the back end are better tighter coverage, So
- 1:16:06Speaker 11: I think, you know, kind of the same type stuff
- 1:16:07Speaker 11: of the kind of fire zones, boot zones and you know,
- 1:16:10Speaker 11: bringing five, bringing six, or you know, dropping guys out.
- 1:16:12Speaker 11: I think there's the amount of the tighter windows and
- 1:16:15Speaker 11: maybe the kind of a little more heat you feel fronts.
- 1:16:18Speaker 16: Just naturally as talented as you are, you know, strong arm,
- 1:16:20Speaker 16: you can obviously run around. How have you learned the
- 1:16:23Speaker 16: discipline of think plays go or not trying to force them?
- 1:16:27Speaker 16: Understanding sometimes those leads and turnovers or sacks I've been
- 1:16:29Speaker 16: living to see another day.
- 1:16:30Speaker 7: Sometimes the best play.
- 1:16:31Speaker 11: Yeah, I gotta do a better better job of that.
- 1:16:33Speaker 11: I think you mentioned it. You know kind of may
- 1:16:35Speaker 11: sometimes throw away as the kind of the best player
- 1:16:37Speaker 11: even incompletion. I think at times you saw you go,
- 1:16:39Speaker 11: we do a great job of that of hey, just
- 1:16:41Speaker 11: throwing in the dirt or you know, even taking a
- 1:16:43Speaker 11: short sack is what we talk about in the quarterback room.
- 1:16:45Speaker 11: I think, you know, t C does a great job
- 1:16:47Speaker 11: of you know, those little things and a little reminders
- 1:16:49Speaker 11: that can go a long way of you know, knowing
- 1:16:51Speaker 11: when to do things situationally. And I talked about the
- 1:16:54Speaker 11: one in Tennessee where you know, it's a third down
- 1:16:56Speaker 11: and we're up midfield, we got a chance to you know,
- 1:16:57Speaker 11: pin them deep on a punt and you know, you know,
- 1:16:59Speaker 11: throw interception and causes you know, a short field for
- 1:17:02Speaker 11: the defense and just little things like that. You kind
- 1:17:04Speaker 11: of grow and learn and you'll try to replicate those
- 1:17:06Speaker 11: mistakes like yeah, tough. It Ha's tough really to in
- 1:17:11Speaker 11: practice to kind of you kind of just running plays
- 1:17:13Speaker 11: on hey, this is first and second down plays and
- 1:17:15Speaker 11: I don't think you really get the situational part. I
- 1:17:17Speaker 11: think that's why it's big for you have an area
- 1:17:19Speaker 11: with a VP and TC that I think they're so
- 1:17:20Speaker 11: great with so many different experiences of talking through hey,
- 1:17:24Speaker 11: this is what we do and this is what you
- 1:17:26Speaker 11: know we want you to do, or this is probably
- 1:17:28Speaker 11: the best thing for for our for our football team
- 1:17:30Speaker 11: at this this standpoint, Jacoby is great in the game.
- 1:17:32Speaker 11: Reminded me, hey, you know, it's not be bad here
- 1:17:34Speaker 11: to think this or little things like that.
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: Great. Why do you feel back here?
- 1:17:38Speaker 8: Why do you feel your team has has done pretty
- 1:17:41Speaker 8: well offensively if the starts at games recently, you've been
- 1:17:45Speaker 8: very good in the first quarter at least generating points
- 1:17:48Speaker 8: on most of the drives in the last few games.
- 1:17:50Speaker 10: Why is that good?
- 1:17:52Speaker 11: I think it's credit to a VP and the guys
- 1:17:54Speaker 11: have known the first initial calls. I think we study
- 1:17:57Speaker 11: that hard on Friday and Saturday of knowing, hey, this
- 1:18:00Speaker 11: is the you know, the first places you know, coming
- 1:18:02Speaker 11: out of the of the ball game, and this is
- 1:18:03Speaker 11: what we're expecting. And I think the guys have have
- 1:18:05Speaker 11: really responded well. And I think early on in the year,
- 1:18:08Speaker 11: I think guys kind of lost focus on those you know,
- 1:18:11Speaker 11: whether first ten or fifteen or twenty plays, and then
- 1:18:14Speaker 11: we had them up on the call shooting. You know,
- 1:18:16Speaker 11: guys kind of you know what they're expecting. Maybe or
- 1:18:18Speaker 11: sometimes you know, it doesn't really all come off of
- 1:18:21Speaker 11: the play sheet, but I think the guys have done
- 1:18:22Speaker 11: a good job of you know, studying that up and
- 1:18:24Speaker 11: and really focus it on it.
- 1:18:26Speaker 9: When you change your arm, you're rolling right and you
- 1:18:29Speaker 9: dropped outside, don't you're going to the left side by
- 1:18:32Speaker 9: you switch hands? Is that a conscious act?
- 1:18:35Speaker 12: Is that instinctive?
- 1:18:37Speaker 11: Where has that ability to do that and deliver the
- 1:18:40Speaker 11: ball on? Talking out of time from Yeah, just instinctive really,
- 1:18:44Speaker 11: I think you know some of it probably like you know,
- 1:18:46Speaker 11: what is he doing out there a little bit, you know,
- 1:18:48Speaker 11: trying to throw away passes and little stuff like that.
- 1:18:50Speaker 11: That's kind of just instinctive. I think just from growing up,
- 1:18:55Speaker 11: you know, playing with his ball in the backyard or
- 1:18:57Speaker 11: little things just playing different sports like I said, change
- 1:18:59Speaker 11: it our angle and you know, playing dodgeball or you know,
- 1:19:03Speaker 11: who knows what. So I think just something just comes instinctively.
- 1:19:06Speaker 11: I'm just out there playing ball.
- 1:19:07Speaker 3: You're kind of.
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: Adding on to my earlier question.
- 1:19:09Speaker 12: On a podcast, I think Kyle Wrdolf mentioned how when
- 1:19:11Speaker 12: he was playing with Brady he was kind of different
- 1:19:13Speaker 12: from the quarterbacks because instead of you know, running to
- 1:19:15Speaker 12: a specific depth you'd say, hey, if you're in space,
- 1:19:17Speaker 12: give me your eyes so you're available. Is that kind
- 1:19:19Speaker 12: of how you process or as a young guy, you're
- 1:19:21Speaker 12: trying to stick more to the details, or is there
- 1:19:23Speaker 12: some kind of balance.
- 1:19:24Speaker 11: That's what I'm telling Hunter. You're hunting those guys down
- 1:19:26Speaker 11: the field. I think, you know, sometimes you're just going
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: out there and playing football. I think sometimes you know,
- 1:19:30Speaker 11: these guys get into you're running the route that's on
- 1:19:32Speaker 11: the you know, the sheet of paper or at this depth.
- 1:19:35Speaker 11: I think at some point, you know, just turns into
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: playing ball making plays. So I think we're trying to
- 1:19:38Speaker 11: you'll figure that out a little bit. I think Hunter
- 1:19:40Speaker 11: and those guys are starting to see it. You know,
- 1:19:41Speaker 11: I don't think last week on the play that coming
- 1:19:44Speaker 11: back on a penalty, you know what Hunter did it
- 1:19:45Speaker 11: kind of sitting in the zone and little stuff like that.
- 1:19:47Speaker 11: I think you're gonna start to see a lot of
- 1:19:49Speaker 11: a lot of strides in that area and some stuff that,
- 1:19:52Speaker 11: you know, with different different guys moving around and kind
- 1:19:55Speaker 11: of get comfortable in their spot, you can see some
- 1:19:57Speaker 11: kind of some evolution of kind of different things that
- 1:19:59Speaker 11: will help us make some more plays.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: I'm very reliable just what about him has made him
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: h so easy for you to go to him anymore.
- 1:20:11Speaker 11: Yeah, first off, I think he scored like thirty or
- 1:20:14Speaker 11: forty touchdowns in this league, so it's had a lot
- 1:20:16Speaker 11: of success. And he's done it with a guy you know,
- 1:20:19Speaker 11: with Philip in San Diego who or quote unquote when
- 1:20:24Speaker 11: then he was la with w some guys that have
- 1:20:26Speaker 11: done at a high level. And he's seen it out
- 1:20:28Speaker 11: a lot of different looks, and he helps with a
- 1:20:30Speaker 11: line of guys up in the in the huddle, and
- 1:20:32Speaker 11: he's just a true VET and you know, one of
- 1:20:34Speaker 11: the best players on football teams. I'm trying to get
- 1:20:36Speaker 11: in football.
- 1:20:38Speaker 9: That you said sometimes just going out there and playing football,
- 1:20:41Speaker 9: how would you learn that as you're going about your
- 1:20:43Speaker 9: NFL career, Start that even though it's the most complicated
- 1:20:47Speaker 9: game with the highest level that he sometimes it comes
- 1:20:49Speaker 9: out is simply playing.
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: For Yeah, don't lose it. I think, you know, the
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: big thing about you know, football is that I think,
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: you know, football is easy, and people are complicated, and
- 1:20:58Speaker 11: you know, people try to complicate it, and I think
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: the best thing to do at the end of the
- 1:21:01Speaker 11: day is simplified and try to make a simple and
- 1:21:03Speaker 11: be on the same page. I think we're learning that
- 1:21:04Speaker 11: and kind of feeling our way through that. So there's
- 1:21:07Speaker 11: probably some things that I've done, you know, in this
- 1:21:09Speaker 11: season that it was probably out of the ordinary or
- 1:21:12Speaker 11: maybe you know, I'm not trying to think this guy
- 1:21:14Speaker 11: may do something that ended up being in a negative play,
- 1:21:16Speaker 11: but I think down the roads end up leading to,
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: you know, some bigger plays for us.
- 1:21:20Speaker 16: He sees a lot of similarities between you and a
- 1:21:22Speaker 16: young Herbert. Has he ever talked to you about those
- 1:21:25Speaker 16: days and playing with us?
- 1:21:28Speaker 11: Yeah, I asked Hunter, and I asked a bunch of questions.
- 1:21:30Speaker 11: I think, you know, Hunters of you know, wealth, the
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: knowledge him and Jacoby and and Hooper and and David
- 1:21:34Speaker 11: and guys like that that are just on the offense
- 1:21:36Speaker 11: a veteran's side. You know, he always talks about Herbert
- 1:21:39Speaker 11: re membories first started. I think, you know, Hunter said
- 1:21:42Speaker 11: he was real nervous coming out there in the huddle,
- 1:21:44Speaker 11: and you know, maybe through his first one in the stands,
- 1:21:47Speaker 11: kind of like I did in my first my first
- 1:21:48Speaker 11: one against the Texans. So uh, no, other than that,
- 1:21:51Speaker 11: I think it just his arm down and you know,
- 1:21:53Speaker 11: he's a great player in this league. But I think
- 1:21:55Speaker 11: Hunter is just you know, a classic example of me
- 1:21:57Speaker 11: trying to soak up information and try to feed you
- 1:22:00Speaker 11: one of our best players football.
- 1:22:02Speaker 15: Thank you, and now great moments in.
- 1:23:06Speaker 10: History.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: Basically it comes down to luck, Like Lou Williams the
- 1:23:10Speaker 5: Strip Club and he still didn't get it. But it's
- 1:23:13Speaker 5: how to get the wings. That's exactly my point. And
- 1:23:15Speaker 5: then you look at like strip club. I'm just not
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: going to go and say, well, this team didn't get
- 1:23:20Speaker 5: any so I got to give them credit for it. No,
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: the luck of the draw.
- 1:23:25Speaker 3: You know they're gonna be like, oh, this team did this,
- 1:23:27Speaker 3: this this.
- 1:23:27Speaker 5: Because you know, but you know, no teams are gonna
- 1:23:29Speaker 5: be like just recklessly just as usual all day. I
- 1:23:34Speaker 5: mean if when the Giants rented that boat down in
- 1:23:36Speaker 5: Miami a couple of years ago, or the Vikings, remember
- 1:23:40Speaker 5: the Vikings, Oh my god, it's like talking about like
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: sailing around in a peachrey dish.
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: So like, if you're gonna go to a strip club,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: probably go to the one that Lou Williams went to
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: in Atlanta.
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: And good and good wings, great wings, good wings from
- 1:23:56Speaker 5: all reputations.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: Take your temperature before you walk in.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: You know, did the ladies wear masks.
- 1:24:04Speaker 15: Where the club? Oh, I see what you're saying. While Yeah,
- 1:24:12Speaker 15: that's another great moment from.
- 1:24:17Speaker 3: All right back here on Patriot's Unfiltered, It's deuced Paul myself,
- 1:24:20Speaker 3: Matt nabooth Evan should be by any moment now right
- 1:24:24Speaker 3: because practice is wrapping up. Yeah a little bit. Yeah,
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: we're gonna get rain tomorrow and we need it.
- 1:24:31Speaker 10: They said we do need it conditions.
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: I heard that if it does rain, which I guess
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: it's pretty much definite, they're gonna move practice into the
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: bowl the bowls.
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: Oh, it's going to rain heavy.
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: Yeah, oh interesting, So they're gonna go into.
- 1:24:44Speaker 5: The good because I have a lot of places I
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: need to be quick.
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Oh it's going to rain all weekend.
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: Paul, I don't care. Well, I mean I do care
- 1:24:51Speaker 5: about that, but like tomorrow, I have to do some things.
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: And they're saying, got a bank to go to fel
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: Grint and for those of you that listened, felgrim Mas
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: delayed by a day Sunshine dot com on on Thursday
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: this week little charity event that the my station is
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: taking part in and paddles.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's gonna rain all weekend in a drenching rain,
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: so much needed.
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: Yeah, So it was funny because the you know the
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: wildfires that you know, they're really bad up my area.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: I don't know, like Middleton and Land, like they've been.
- 1:25:23Speaker 3: All the forest up there.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: They been really bad. And I would say over the
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: weekend and to the beginning even Monday, didn't really notice
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: it as much. Today when I walked out of my house,
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: it was overwhelming, Like you could see the haze. You
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: could smell it really, you know, almost like someone had
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: a fire pit going right next door. Yeah, and so
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: hopefully we will get that drenching rain to sort of squash.
- 1:25:46Speaker 10: The rest of that.
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: I know they're really fighting it, the pab fires. I
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: mean it's been bad, yeah, Middleton, Land, Peabty, Danvers, like
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: the whole air.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: It's just because the dryness no funny business.
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: Oh, I mean, who knows, but I assume it's for
- 1:26:02Speaker 5: the dry the dry conditions.
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: Well, it makes it makes it worse. Yeah, the leaves
- 1:26:08Speaker 3: are down and they're crinkling, you know, they're like paper.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: Tinder box.
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: How's your leave situation, Freddy? You got that thing?
- 1:26:15Speaker 3: Well, I got my company that does the lawnmowing they
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: come by once a week company and they take care
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: of the leaves. So they've been keeping up with it.
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: Who was the guy last week that said fried me
- 1:26:25Speaker 5: being rich, so my company, my company comes care of Well.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: Somebody email and said that what we learned yesterday that
- 1:26:33Speaker 3: is Fred's too good for Marshalls.
- 1:26:35Speaker 5: It's not so much.
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: But it's not so much. I'm too good for it.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: You get what you paid. I don't buy a lot
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: of clothes. You get what you so when I do
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: buy clothes, I want it to last. And I'm telling
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: you people that the line you could buy Polo, the
- 1:26:50Speaker 3: brand Polo, and the Polo that you buy in Marshalls
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: is not the same Polo that you buy in the
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: the big department stores. It's a different different, you know.
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: And I would agree with Freddy. I'm not. It's not
- 1:27:03Speaker 5: that we're above it, but you do. You have to
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: know what you're getting. And I've shopped at Marshals before.
- 1:27:08Speaker 5: I've gotten stuff at you know, when when I have something,
- 1:27:11Speaker 5: I don't necessarily want to spend a lot of money
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: stuff like that, But you know who cares what the
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: quality is?
- 1:27:19Speaker 11: Right?
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: You know, like they're like when you get a couple
- 1:27:20Speaker 5: of T shirts that I'm going to be, you know,
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: doing yard work in or whatever.
- 1:27:24Speaker 3: You know, I'm not a clothes or horse or what horse,
- 1:27:27Speaker 3: but horse I used to be. You know. It's funny,
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: oh you back in the day.
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: Yeah, now that I think, because I have bought Marsh
- 1:27:35Speaker 4: is always good for like Patriots sweatshirts. But it is
- 1:27:38Speaker 4: you're right because they are not defective versions of.
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: The logos over here, you know, like you get like
- 1:27:47Speaker 5: a hoodie and like it doesn't quite but line up
- 1:27:50Speaker 5: like that.
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: But they also the brands also make a cheaper line
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: for these discount department stores.
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: Yeah, it used to be Kmart to back they would have.
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: I worked at Kmar when I was in high school.
- 1:28:01Speaker 4: I totally agree with that philosophy on shoes, like if
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: you're gonna buy, don't buy cheap crappy shoes, Like buy
- 1:28:06Speaker 4: good shoes.
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Like I totally agree, better for your feet.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: So, like, I like, if I bought a lot of clothes,
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: if I was one of those people that always had
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: to be seen in new stuff, i'd go to Yeah,
- 1:28:18Speaker 3: I go to those places because I couldn't afford to
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: buy the top. But I don't buy a lot of stuff.
- 1:28:24Speaker 3: So when I do. I like, so, if you buy.
- 1:28:26Speaker 5: Your fancy euro sweater at Marshalls, yeah, that probably already
- 1:28:30Speaker 5: would be like where it worn out and yeah ruined.
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: I've had this for two years now. Yeah.
- 1:28:37Speaker 10: Yeah, that's why I cost six hundred dollars.
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: Oh it doesn't cost minimum, Come on minimum. He had
- 1:28:44Speaker 5: to have it shipped from from Milan.
- 1:28:46Speaker 3: Right, but I'd made it. I'd rather have quality over quantity.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I would agree with Fred on that.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: Yeaheah.
- 1:28:54Speaker 5: For as much as we argue, we really do line
- 1:28:56Speaker 5: up on a lot of things.
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: Let's let's try the TPS outline again. Riley's in Phoenix.
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: What's up, Riley? Hey, what's up?
- 1:29:09Speaker 15: Hey?
- 1:29:09Speaker 12: What's on?
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: Guys? What up?
- 1:29:12Speaker 7: I just had a couple of questions and I wanted
- 1:29:15Speaker 7: to get you guys spot. I know you said you
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: didn't really want to talk draft too much, so I
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: won't get into player specific.
- 1:29:24Speaker 10: Okay, yeah, that's good.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: Hello.
- 1:29:28Speaker 5: I think we lost him.
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: Riley, Riley, Riley, hang on for us.
- 1:29:34Speaker 5: His call must have dropped.
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: Oh, poor Riley.
- 1:29:37Speaker 5: That was the closest we had to a call. Mike
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: hour and twenty eight minutes.
- 1:29:40Speaker 3: Into the show, He's like, I don't want to know.
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: We've had several people on the line. We just can't.
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: What do you think he was gonna I know you
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: guys didn't want to talk draft, but I'm going to
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: talk draft.
- 1:29:50Speaker 5: Right And uh, it wasn't that I didn't want to talk. Oh,
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: Fred didn't want to talk about specific players in the draft.
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: There's six games left in the season. We have plenty
- 1:29:59Speaker 5: of time to talk about the draft after the season.
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: Oh yeah, Mike, We're not Patriots scouting Statt department. Who
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: was out, you know, scouting these guys and putting together
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: their boards and whatnot. We're not doing that, not yet,
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: even in the off season. Now that Evan might do.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: That spiing Fresno rights in he said some time ago,
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: Fred mentioned offhand that there's a term for when you
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: do a clever turn of phrase, such as Eli Manning
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: is going to be a Hall of guy versus a
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: hall a guy in the Hall of Fame. Well, I
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: asked chat GBT and it said the term is either
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: contrastive phrasing or ironic contrast. And there it is. Okay.
- 1:30:37Speaker 3: Andy was a big one on that.
- 1:30:38Speaker 5: Andy was, Yeah, he's the one that really brought it
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: to the mainstream, and it was that.
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: Is he a running back or is he a back
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: who runs?
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: No, it was more like Mark Anderson is the guy
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: who had ten sacks. It's not a ten sack guy.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: Tully Bantercaine, same thing.
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly, and he's right, yeah, you.
- 1:30:58Speaker 10: Know, I like that.
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: It's just like there's a difference between a Pro Bowl
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: quarterback and a quarterback who went to.
- 1:31:04Speaker 4: The Pro Bowl running quarterback a quarterback who can run.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: So that's contrast of phrasing.
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: Contrasting freezing.
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: There you go get smarter.
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: Yeah, Boston Cream sends in some trivia.
- 1:31:16Speaker 10: I want to do someve trivia.
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: I love trivia. Question one. The Patriots picked first overall
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: in nineteen eighty two. The player that selective.
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: Was game Day Ken Simms.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: Ken Simms is correct, you called him game Day. Yeah.
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: He said he'd be ready on game day after he
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: had a slow.
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: Start to He never liked to practice, right, was he. Yeah?
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: No, he had one reasonably good year and he broke
- 1:31:42Speaker 5: his leg.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: I'm a former Patriot first round pick and full back
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: out of usc Who am I what round pick? First round?
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: Oh? Sam Cunningham.
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: Sam Cunningham Sam Bam, I crossed, these are really easy,
- 1:31:58Speaker 3: Boston cream. I crossed the picket line during an NFL
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: strike to play quarterback for the Patriots. BAMBI right, that
- 1:32:06Speaker 3: would be Doug flu In Paul Parlance. And finally, I
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: scored four touchdowns on five rushes in the season and
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: am universally known to be one of the best players
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: in Team nay League history. Now this is sarcastic. This
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: is Andy would get.
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: This one, Oh Devlin, James Devlin, Right, you have me
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: with Andy?
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I would not have gotten that without your Andy.
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: A little fullback centric there questions.
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: I was thinking full back out of USC mostly to Tupoo,
- 1:32:38Speaker 5: but then he said first round pick. I was like, oh,
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: it's a trick question.
- 1:32:42Speaker 10: Was mostly the Tupoo good?
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: He was a great special teams player.
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: Yeah he was, he was, Yeah.
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: Yeah he was. You know, he's a good song I remember.
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: I mean, I told you when I was a kid,
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: I called them mosty tu poo poos. That was one
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: of the first players I.
- 1:32:55Speaker 5: Knew two poo poos.
- 1:32:56Speaker 3: And I think it was Russ Francis who said, like
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: he was probably the best, one of the best coal
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: or snow game because he had these wide feet. It
- 1:33:05Speaker 3: was like snow shoes. He never loses, had.
- 1:33:08Speaker 5: Like one hundred yard game in the snow late in
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: the season one year against the Saints.
- 1:33:12Speaker 10: Wide feet.
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: I didn't know that. I didn't know the wide feet part. Yeah,
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: that's interesting, the wide angle. I didn't know that one.
- 1:33:18Speaker 3: Uh Patrick and Ottawa. I'm not sure I understand this
- 1:33:21Speaker 3: email hearing Drake may say pause after talking about feeling
- 1:33:25Speaker 3: the guys during a press conference. These aren't Bills Patriots anymore.
- 1:33:29Speaker 3: What did he say?
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: I guess he like verbalized the word pause today, which
- 1:33:33Speaker 4: I didn't catch. I didn't catch, and it's been it's
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: been going around on social media a little bit that
- 1:33:37Speaker 4: he was responding to a question and then, you know,
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: said pause.
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: What was the question?
- 1:33:42Speaker 10: A shoot?
- 1:33:44Speaker 5: I'd have to look.
- 1:33:45Speaker 3: Come on, man, I forget, I forget, So I'm now
- 1:33:48Speaker 3: I'm intrigued.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: So now I'm gonna have to call myself out for
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: not paying attention because.
- 1:33:53Speaker 4: I didn't hear it either. I saw a couple.
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: Well, where is it all right? While you're looking at
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: Brendan from Edmonton, Alberta?
- 1:34:03Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: One? Play gotta have it? Third and ten? Who are
- 1:34:07Speaker 3: you throwing? The ball to if all things are equal,
- 1:34:09Speaker 3: Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Danny Amandola or Troy Brown Welker, Welker, Yeah,
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: but over Edelman.
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd probably go Troy Brown next.
- 1:34:23Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, do you want to hear? Yeah?
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah. Do you have which one it is?
- 1:34:28Speaker 12: Matt reading space and leverage or how are you really
- 1:34:31Speaker 12: seeing the defense.
- 1:34:32Speaker 10: And like going through your head?
- 1:34:34Speaker 11: Yeah, this kind of comes natural. I think you always
- 1:34:36Speaker 11: try to check, you know, the safety structure. I think
- 1:34:38Speaker 11: that helps any type of quarterback. But uh, I think
- 1:34:40Speaker 11: kind of the best thing is just just spatial reasoning,
- 1:34:42Speaker 11: like you said, seeing the space or seeing the guy,
- 1:34:44Speaker 11: and that also comes with you know, feeling the guy out,
- 1:34:47Speaker 11: you know pause, but uh, just to kind of seeing.
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: How the rally's kind of run.
- 1:34:50Speaker 11: And I think that comes with kind of time, Hey,
- 1:34:53Speaker 11: you know Hunter maybe doing this against this coverage or
- 1:34:55Speaker 11: maybe versus man. So they kind of just feeling out,
- 1:34:58Speaker 11: you kind of the guys and and seeing how they
- 1:35:00Speaker 11: run routes for a different you know man and zone,
- 1:35:02Speaker 11: and then also just getting reps at it. That's the
- 1:35:04Speaker 11: biggest thing.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: Where did he say pause?
- 1:35:07Speaker 5: That was in there in the middle, but I was
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: he kind of like how he's doing it mentally like
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: don't like you know, you like you see the guy
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: out pause and then you make your know. That's how
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: I took that. Listening to it, I getta admit. I
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: did not think anything of it.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: I didn't think anybody live and on this replay, I
- 1:35:24Speaker 4: didn't think anything. People are just putting it on social media.
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: I think it was Taylor that asked the question, and
- 1:35:30Speaker 4: Taylor definitely asked the question, but also said, you know,
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: May says pause when he mentions, I don't know, I
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: don't get it.
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: I don't think he meant pause like now I need
- 1:35:39Speaker 3: to stop and think. I think he meant pause like
- 1:35:41Speaker 3: like like.
- 1:35:44Speaker 11: Pause, like you said, seeing the space or seeing the guy,
- 1:35:49Speaker 11: and that also comes with you know, feeling the guy out,
- 1:35:52Speaker 11: you know, pause, but just kind of see how the
- 1:35:54Speaker 11: rise is kind of run.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: And feeling the guy out pause and then seeing how
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: the guy running something. That's what I think he was saying.
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: Take a beat, take a beat, take a beat.
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: That's how I took.
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: It, nitpicking every little thing.
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: Leave my drake Alonge friend, I'll take you a role.
- 1:36:10Speaker 5: I think I like drink more than you do.
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: Like God, people, let's take a breath, take a pause.
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: Trevor from Fresno. There's been talk about how this year's
- 1:36:21Speaker 3: draft class still isn't a success unless another guy hits
- 1:36:26Speaker 3: so the current one, the one they just drafted. But
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: I don't really see that that way. This year is
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: all about developing Drake May, and he's been awesome. The
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: offense looks half decent with a motley crew at both
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: wide receiver and O line. I think all we need
- 1:36:38Speaker 3: is an impact player on offense and an impact player
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: on defense, and for Drake May to continue developing. We
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: are not as far off as some people think. What
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: are your thoughts? But I hear what you're saying, Trevor.
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, like this draft
- 1:36:52Speaker 3: class wasn't that good. I mean, Drake May, of course
- 1:36:55Speaker 3: is the crown jewel, but like.
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: Like, who are the impact players? Like are you adding
- 1:37:01Speaker 5: like Jamar Chase and Micah Parsons right, Like because no.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: But he's but he's talking about this year.
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: To suggest that you're not that far off. All you
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: need is one impact player on offense and one impact
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: player on defense. That is in my for next year,
- 1:37:16Speaker 5: in my view way short. They need way more than that.
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: And the point about the draft class, Yes, this season,
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: the most important thing in my view, in Mike's view,
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: in a lot of people's view, was to develop Drake May.
- 1:37:31Speaker 5: That didn't mean that it was okay that they haven't
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: hit on any other draft picks.
- 1:37:35Speaker 10: No, how long is it gonna take.
- 1:37:36Speaker 4: That's it's not.
- 1:37:37Speaker 5: I mean it like, right now, it doesn't look like
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: that draft class has given you anything, let alone much.
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: Right I mean, at the very least, you're hoping that
- 1:37:44Speaker 4: you get some players that can just be solid for you,
- 1:37:47Speaker 4: like you know, I mean, Cole Strange comes back, is
- 1:37:50Speaker 4: Leydon Robinson ever gonna play again this year? Is he
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: ever going to get another chance? Caden Wallace is still
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: not back. I'm kind of losing hope on Polk. I mean,
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: people continue to just say he's gonna be good, He's
- 1:37:59Speaker 4: gonna be good. I mean, I've never seen anything like that,
- 1:38:01Speaker 4: where I mean I said already, I've never seen anything
- 1:38:03Speaker 4: like feeling he was going to be productive in camp
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: and then he wasn't. But I've also never seen people
- 1:38:08Speaker 4: so assured that he's going to break out of this
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: and he's going to be good. I mean, he's eleven
- 1:38:12Speaker 4: catches on the season. I hope so, but I don't
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: I don't share that.
- 1:38:18Speaker 10: Oh, it's absolutely gonna happen anymore.
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: What do we make of Evan's tardiness. I don't know.
- 1:38:23Speaker 4: Maybe I'll give him an extra think it's that given
- 1:38:25Speaker 4: her a little extra time.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Maybe it's usually late in the show that.
- 1:38:29Speaker 3: He comes a little worried. Oh, do you think there
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: might be some grousing. Well, I think there might be
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: some unrest cuffs. I don't know about.
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: Someone took a pause. Yeah, yeah, he'll be put in
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: laid pause on.
- 1:38:43Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, laid pause. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:38:47Speaker 4: I don't remember what time he usually the tweets i'll
- 1:38:49Speaker 4: all just hit about two minutes ago.
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: So he shall be by it, he'll be.
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: Coming, okay, so he's probably on his way. Yeah.
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: The draft class thing to me is that's relevant. You
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: can't just be happy. I mean, obviously, that's the most
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: important thing I'd rather have. If I had to choose,
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: Drake may hit and the rest of them miss, then
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: the rest of them hit and Drake may miss.
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: Oh sure, okay, given that choice, obviously, Yeah, but.
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: You needed, you know, And I'm not writing it off.
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: It's you know, we're talking about eleven games. I'm not
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: writing the draft class off. I'm always very critical of
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: those who immediately declare victory on the draft. When guys
- 1:39:28Speaker 5: make the team and play a little bit, you know,
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: I'm not gonna write it.
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: Robinson could end up being Robinson and.
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: Caden Wallace could end up being starting offensive lineman for you.
- 1:39:37Speaker 5: Jalen pol could shrug this off and just be a
- 1:39:40Speaker 5: footnote in his career. He could be, you know, a
- 1:39:42Speaker 5: solid receiver for you, and all of a sudden it's
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: a really good draft.
- 1:39:45Speaker 3: Books not closed.
- 1:39:46Speaker 5: You know what was the year that it looked like
- 1:39:49Speaker 5: it was a really bad class for a while and
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: then all of a sudden you got more out of
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: was it duggery? You know, Infony Jennings looked you know,
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: he didn't do much of a couple of years. Now
- 1:40:01Speaker 5: he's a starting player for you. Like things can evolve,
- 1:40:04Speaker 5: but they're gonna need to because you can't just have
- 1:40:08Speaker 5: May and the rest of them nothing. You need a
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: couple of these guys to hit guess who's here?
- 1:40:16Speaker 9: Has we turned?
- 1:40:18Speaker 15: And then has we turned? Has we turned?
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: All?
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: Right? Haven't we were a little warried.
- 1:40:29Speaker 5: Yeah was very well.
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, it's they've been running little late in terms
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: of start to practice. So one o'clock is supposed to
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: be the start of time, but it's been closer to
- 1:40:41Speaker 6: like one ten, I would say, by the time we
- 1:40:43Speaker 6: get out there for stretching. But anyways, a little change
- 1:40:47Speaker 6: for you today, Fred, no pads.
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: No pads on Wednesday.
- 1:40:51Speaker 6: No pads on Wednesday, so shells, but no pads today.
- 1:40:55Speaker 6: I think we're getting later on into the season. Guys
- 1:40:57Speaker 6: are probably feeling it a little bit, so a little
- 1:41:00Speaker 6: lighter practice today without pads. And Nicole Strange, as Gerrodmeo said,
- 1:41:04Speaker 6: back at practice today and participating. We can get to
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: where he was participating here in.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: A second as well.
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: In terms of absences, Christian Barmore not spotted at practice.
- 1:41:17Speaker 6: It seems like he's on some sort of a management schedule,
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: I would think. And no Dietrich Wise still still at practice,
- 1:41:24Speaker 6: so still dealing with a foot injury. It sounds like
- 1:41:27Speaker 6: for Wise.
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: Okay, what did you make of Gerard saying that you know,
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: we could you know that Cole Strange will be getting
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: back to practice. A lot of people we heard that
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: David Andrews is working with him at center. Yep, what
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: do you think about that?
- 1:41:44Speaker 6: Well, that's what we saw out there today was after
- 1:41:47Speaker 6: Ben Brown, the guy snapping the ball was cold, strange,
- 1:41:50Speaker 6: So he was taking some reps at center already in
- 1:41:53Speaker 6: practice today, And you know, I think long term, there
- 1:41:58Speaker 6: was there were some thoughts in the draft that center
- 1:42:00Speaker 6: might be his best position in the line, just because
- 1:42:04Speaker 6: of the fact that he's undersized, and you can get
- 1:42:06Speaker 6: away a little bit more with being undersized at center
- 1:42:09Speaker 6: versus at guard. But I find it interesting because I
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: just feel like Michael Jordan is their weak link right now,
- 1:42:16Speaker 6: and if I were to want to replace anybody on
- 1:42:18Speaker 6: the line with what they have in the house, I
- 1:42:20Speaker 6: would think left guard, which is strangest spot, would be
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: the spot to replay, and not necessarily Ben Brown at center.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: But I should mention Ben Brown was still taking the
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: first team reps at center. Col Strange was taking second
- 1:42:34Speaker 6: team reps at center.
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, all right, So you say it was in shells,
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: shells and helmets.
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: Shorts, some shorts, some sweats, some shorts with the leggings underneath.
- 1:42:46Speaker 6: You know, that's.
- 1:42:47Speaker 5: Everybody to go with the leggings without the shorts Sean Jefferson.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: No, no one's got the scared, no one's got the
- 1:42:54Speaker 6: you know what's to do that?
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think you.
- 1:42:56Speaker 5: Did, Jefferson.
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: He kept running at you with all that stuff bouncing around.
- 1:43:03Speaker 3: Ye no, uh okay. So other than that, any you
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: know alignment. Do we think we're looking at the same
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: line for offense this week? Uh?
- 1:43:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I thought it was interesting. It didn't sound like
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: uh Girod was too committal to that this morning, Like
- 1:43:21Speaker 6: it wasn't as matter of fact as it was last week.
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: So I believe they they're probably trying to see where
- 1:43:29Speaker 6: cold Strange is, you know, and maybe trying to factor
- 1:43:32Speaker 6: him back in again. I would think at left guard,
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: I seeing that that's where he's played his whole career.
- 1:43:36Speaker 6: But you know, we'll see. I don't think it's a
- 1:43:39Speaker 6: foregone conclusion that the line's going to be exactly the
- 1:43:41Speaker 6: same though.
- 1:43:42Speaker 3: Okay we were talking well before we get into the subject.
- 1:43:47Speaker 3: But staying on what you saw today, it what's the
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: weather supposed to be for Miami?
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: Not too hot forties snow no, I doubt.
- 1:43:58Speaker 6: That, but like like low to mid seventies, not so
- 1:44:01Speaker 6: bearable it's going to be it's not gonna be crazy.
- 1:44:03Speaker 5: Yeah's going to be a scortchet.
- 1:44:04Speaker 3: So it's not like they have to go into the
- 1:44:06Speaker 3: bubble and put turn the heat on to get ready.
- 1:44:10Speaker 6: Yeah, it doesn't.
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: Sound like it, but that sun can get hot down well.
- 1:44:13Speaker 6: And you know the sideline, you know, I'm.
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: Assuming it'll be humid because it always is.
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: Yeah, that's because in Miami a lot of people don't
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: know the way they have We were talking about it
- 1:44:23Speaker 3: at Gillette. The way they have it up is the
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: sun is beating down on the visitor bench. The dolphins
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: are shaded from it, so it's it's tough down there
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: when when that sun's out. So yeah, something to get
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: ready to get that sunscreen on.
- 1:44:39Speaker 6: If you're a player, got to get those tents, you know,
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: the like the ones you bring to the beach. You
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: get a bunch of those. Ye stick will be on that.
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: Okay, some squore bottles.
- 1:44:51Speaker 3: So with the game being with the game being in Miami, yes,
- 1:44:56Speaker 3: would you say there's more media people planning to make
- 1:44:58Speaker 3: that trip than they would usually for a road game.
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: Interesting question.
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: I didn't talk to anybody about that specifically, but I'll
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: have an answer for you tomorrow. I'll ask around.
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: Assignment, because I would I would imagine being like, oh,
- 1:45:09Speaker 3: I'm staying at this place, so where are you staying? Yeah?
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: Yeah, it is a popular trip, There's no doubt about that.
- 1:45:16Speaker 3: A lot of people have relatives down there.
- 1:45:18Speaker 6: Yes, I know a couple of people that are staying
- 1:45:20Speaker 6: with relatives. And I know, you know.
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: Barth making the trip. He is not, he's not.
- 1:45:25Speaker 4: He's going to man the show.
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, okay, all right. Well that's that's the practice report.
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: That's it.
- 1:45:34Speaker 6: That's it pretty straightforward.
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: Today. I think things have settled down with the media.
- 1:45:41Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: Did you get kind of a little bit of a
- 1:45:45Speaker 4: subdued vibe in the locker room today?
- 1:45:46Speaker 10: It was a little bit kind of the vibe.
- 1:45:47Speaker 4: I don't know, it's just so quiet today. I don't
- 1:45:49Speaker 4: want to make it sound like they were all like
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: zombies in there, but some Wednesdays it's bustling and others
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: it's a little bit less so, and I kind of
- 1:45:56Speaker 4: felt less over.
- 1:45:56Speaker 6: That, uh, maybe a little bit. I do think that
- 1:45:59Speaker 6: the vibe now is significantly different than it was earlier
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: in the season, especially during obviously the six game losing streak.
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: So even though they're still kind of losing now, it
- 1:46:10Speaker 6: does feel like there's a little bit more belief to
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: the process.
- 1:46:15Speaker 5: Conflicting reports of what they're doing.
- 1:46:17Speaker 3: Yeah, so I get if positive.
- 1:46:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not saying that. It's like I don't think
- 1:46:22Speaker 6: he's saying and I'm not saying overly pose. But when
- 1:46:26Speaker 6: it was when you were in there during the losing streak,
- 1:46:29Speaker 6: it was yeah, it was grim. Yeah it had some
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: moments like that, But this one, I feel like is
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: a little bit more like, you know, we're doing some
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: things that are working, you know, especially on the offensive
- 1:46:41Speaker 6: side of the ball.
- 1:46:42Speaker 4: So maybe that's why because I heard from more of
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: the defensive side of the ball, and Kendrick Bourne was
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: the only offensive guy we heard about, which, by the way,
- 1:46:49Speaker 4: I should mention like and maybe this is everybody knows this,
- 1:46:51Speaker 4: but he was just like straight up like, yeah, I
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: got benched. You know, Kendrick talks like he's just like, yep,
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: I got benched. And I don't know, it just was
- 1:46:58Speaker 4: very forthcoming about it. I think we all assumed that,
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: but I never really heard anyone explicitly say and he
- 1:47:02Speaker 4: said it. But maybe my reaction is more because of
- 1:47:06Speaker 4: what we heard from Tabai and Jay Jones and those
- 1:47:09Speaker 4: guys that were.
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: I would like to know about that whole situation is
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: when was the determination that he was being benched like
- 1:47:19Speaker 5: he was dressed. Yeah, it's not it's not common. You
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: look at like a game book and usually the backup
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: court of back is that. You know, maybe if the
- 1:47:28Speaker 5: team had like nine offensive linemen dressed for it. There's
- 1:47:32Speaker 5: very few guys that dress.
- 1:47:33Speaker 10: And do not play.
- 1:47:35Speaker 5: And Kendrick Bourne dressed didn't play in that game. I
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: wonder when the determination came that he wasn't gonna play.
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: Maybe he has some active game day roster bonuses in
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: his contracts. They didn't want to stick it to his wallets.
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: Well, I mean either high level. He shouldn't be saying
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: that because his head coach didn't really ever come out
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: and say, yeah, we benched him. Yeah, so you just
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: can't do that.
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: Sure, you can't.
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: I can't. You you can't say it. You gotta you
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: gotta keep that stuff in house.
- 1:48:07Speaker 5: Well he didn't say why, No, I know.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: He didn't say why, but never said we benched Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:48:15Speaker 5: Well he didn't play them, I know, but.
- 1:48:18Speaker 3: But he just kind of skirted around it. Like you know,
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: it's I don't know.
- 1:48:23Speaker 5: No, I don't have as much problem. I do agree
- 1:48:25Speaker 5: with you that there's been a little too much free
- 1:48:28Speaker 5: wheeling in the locker room. Yes, I don't necessarily look
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: at that as an.
- 1:48:31Speaker 3: Exist Let's talk football. We were talking earlier. If McDaniel
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: looks at last week's game against the Rams and he
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: sees how McVeigh really did get us in a blender
- 1:48:43Speaker 3: or whatever with the motion and all that, Yeah, do
- 1:48:46Speaker 3: you say we're going to do the same thing or
- 1:48:50Speaker 3: are you saying, well, they're going to be a little
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: bit more prepared for it this this game than they
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: would last game, so world adjusted. The second thing I
- 1:48:58Speaker 3: want to ask, we had an email. I'm not going
- 1:49:00Speaker 3: to take credit for this, but he claims that the
- 1:49:03Speaker 3: way the Patriots played defense against the Rams was the
- 1:49:07Speaker 3: same game plan they had in the Super Bowl against
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: the Rams that they won. Now, obviously it worked in
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: that game because I think you had better players, But
- 1:49:15Speaker 3: is that true?
- 1:49:16Speaker 5: No?
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: Okay, Now, in the Super Bowl against the Rams, they
- 1:49:20Speaker 6: really brought back like basically a forty six defense. They
- 1:49:24Speaker 6: played US six one defensive front, so they put six
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: guys up across the line of scrimmage because at the time,
- 1:49:30Speaker 6: the Rams did not run downhill at you. They were
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: trying to get outside the.
- 1:49:33Speaker 3: Tack They didn't have Cooper Cup that game.
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: They didn't have Cooper Cup. But you know, in the
- 1:49:37Speaker 6: run game, this was this was like first iteration Sean McVay.
- 1:49:41Speaker 6: We haven't gotten to this iteration of McVeigh yet. So
- 1:49:44Speaker 6: he was a you know, he was a wide zone guy.
- 1:49:47Speaker 6: Like they didn't really run in between the tackles or
- 1:49:50Speaker 6: in between the guards really too much. So the Patriots
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: put six guys across the line of scrimmage. And back
- 1:49:55Speaker 6: then you had Dante high Tower as the one linebacker
- 1:49:58Speaker 6: off the line of scrimmage. When you have a guy
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: like that with high Tower who can basically just eat
- 1:50:04Speaker 6: up blocks everywhere, it's helpful. But no, in the in
- 1:50:07Speaker 6: the back end, they played zone. In the Super Bowl,
- 1:50:09Speaker 6: they played cover three, they played quarters like it was
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: totally different.
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, so then go back to the first part
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: of the question, McDaniels, what is he gleaning from the
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: game against the Rams, and does that have him adjust
- 1:50:21Speaker 3: or does he say I'm not doing the same thing.
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: Well, he does the same thing. You know that that's
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: their offense. They're number one in the league in motion rate,
- 1:50:27Speaker 6: they're number two in the league in motion at the snap,
- 1:50:29Speaker 6: the Rams are number one. So like they they that's
- 1:50:32Speaker 6: what they do. So I don't expect him to do
- 1:50:35Speaker 6: anything differently or overthink it because that's just the system
- 1:50:38Speaker 6: that they run in general. So I fully expect them
- 1:50:41Speaker 6: to just run their offense. And I don't think the
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: Patriots defense has really done anything that makes you think, well,
- 1:50:46Speaker 6: we can't just run our conventional offense and we have
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: to reinvent the wheel in a week.
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: Okay, So what are the Patriots gonna do because they
- 1:50:53Speaker 3: had problems with that type of offense? What do they
- 1:50:56Speaker 3: do to adjust this week? Yeah?
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: I mean I don't like the matchup, like I honestly like,
- 1:51:01Speaker 6: I think it's it's a scary matchup for that reason.
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: The one thing that I would say in the Patriots
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: favor is that I do believe they match up a
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: little bit better against these receivers than the Rams receivers
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: because the Rams receivers are big, physical guys, whereas in
- 1:51:16Speaker 6: this matchup, it's all about speed on speed. So when
- 1:51:19Speaker 6: you look at like Gonzo, Marcus Jones, Jonathan Jones like,
- 1:51:22Speaker 6: I feel a lot better about the Joneses against Jaylen
- 1:51:25Speaker 6: Waddle than I do Puka Nakua just because of the
- 1:51:27Speaker 6: size to discrepancies and things like that. So I do
- 1:51:31Speaker 6: think they match up a little bit better in the secondary.
- 1:51:33Speaker 6: And that's sort of what Girodd said this morning, that
- 1:51:35Speaker 6: this would be a little bit more match up based
- 1:51:38Speaker 6: than what they did against the Rams in terms of
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: their game plan. And I think that will be a
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: big reason why is they feel like they match up
- 1:51:46Speaker 6: man on man a little bit better against Miami. So
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: the one thing against Miami that you often see is
- 1:51:52Speaker 6: you play a lot of man to man coverage and
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: you press these receivers because everything about their offense is
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: timing based. They play a really really you know, quick
- 1:52:01Speaker 6: strike get the ball out of too his hands. So
- 1:52:04Speaker 6: if you can get into their receivers and disrupt the
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: timing of the offense, then they're not one of those
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: teams that's gonna kill you as the down progresses later
- 1:52:13Speaker 6: in the down. So that one way to do it.
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: But if you're gonna press, like you're always risking the
- 1:52:19Speaker 6: adr touchdown over your head.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: Two is accurate if nothing else.
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: Yeah, and the Dolphins ran for one hundred ninety three
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: yards when they didn't have any semblance of a passing
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: game in the first meeting. So I think that they
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: can stretch you that way too. And if you're going
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: to play, you know a lot of man to man
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: stuff and want to get maybe they stretch you out,
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: they spread you out horizontally, maybe they gash you with
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: the running game. They didn't have a Chan in that
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: first game either. He left the game after three carries.
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: He got a concussion right in the first quarter. So
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: there's some weapons that Miami has that they didn't have.
- 1:52:51Speaker 5: The tough, tough test for the defense. Yeah, Now I'm
- 1:52:55Speaker 5: with Deuce. I would look at the positive aspects as
- 1:52:59Speaker 5: you might be equipped to stay with them a little bit, right,
- 1:53:02Speaker 5: whereas you weren't in the past. Right, because Drake May
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: and the offense are showing signs of being able to
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: get over twenty yeah, and they haven't really had that ability.
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: I think you need to be over thirty probably to
- 1:53:13Speaker 6: win the game.
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: Probably, and I we'll see.
- 1:53:16Speaker 6: But I'm with Paul, like I the way to win
- 1:53:18Speaker 6: this game is to win a shootout. And I know
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: that's crazy to say based off of the offense that
- 1:53:23Speaker 6: we've seen over the last couple of years. But I
- 1:53:26Speaker 6: just don't see how you get out of Miami giving
- 1:53:28Speaker 6: up anything less than twenty eight. Like they're gonna make
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: their plays on offense, and I think that you just
- 1:53:32Speaker 6: got to hope Drake can make more.
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: Okay, I agree? All right, Well listen, we're gonna end
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: the show a little early. We'll have more on this tomorrow.
- 1:53:42Speaker 5: Did you have a yuro No, no, nope.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: So we have the playbook coming up. Playbook coming up
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: with John Rook and so we'll get to that after this.
- 1:53:52Speaker 3: If you you know what, I'll take one more phone
- 1:53:55Speaker 3: call because Riley has been holding on. He tried.
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: Plus seven's here. Now you can answer his draft question.
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: Let's go to Riley in Phoenix. We'll give it another tribe.
- 1:54:03Speaker 3: We lost you last time. What's up Riley?
- 1:54:07Speaker 7: Hey, guys, Yeah, I'm not quite sure what happened on that,
- 1:54:09Speaker 7: but my question is related to a couple of players
- 1:54:14Speaker 7: on the team. So a couple of things. First, I
- 1:54:18Speaker 7: want to get your guys a thought on how the
- 1:54:21Speaker 7: offense this coordinator is using. Antonio Gibson.
- 1:54:25Speaker 16: I feel like he's.
- 1:54:27Speaker 7: Definitely a lot more explosive whenever he's on the field
- 1:54:30Speaker 7: compared to Ramandre. I know, you guys kind of touched
- 1:54:33Speaker 7: on that a little bit yesterday. I think it was
- 1:54:35Speaker 7: Paul that kind of pointed that out where he needs
- 1:54:39Speaker 7: to break a tackle or you know, drift into that
- 1:54:43Speaker 7: second gear, and it just doesn't seem like, for whatever reason,
- 1:54:47Speaker 7: he's really got it. I don't know if it's attritionian
- 1:54:50Speaker 7: or what, but it seems like every time Gibson's on
- 1:54:53Speaker 7: the field, he runs good, and he runs hard and
- 1:54:56Speaker 7: picks up some good yards. So that was my first thought.
- 1:55:01Speaker 7: Second thought was how imperative do you think it is
- 1:55:05Speaker 7: that we draft a tight end? I know, jaheem Bell
- 1:55:09Speaker 7: played a little bit this last game, but obviously not
- 1:55:12Speaker 7: very much, and obviously the hope is that he continues
- 1:55:14Speaker 7: to develop. But I just kind of wanted to get
- 1:55:18Speaker 7: your guys thoughts on that and see if you were
- 1:55:21Speaker 7: open to bringing Austin Hooper back on the team or
- 1:55:25Speaker 7: if we'd rather just pursue another veteran guy or possibly
- 1:55:29Speaker 7: draft somebody. And that's pretty much all I got, all right, thanks.
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: Riley, So two questions.
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: Tight end's in need, no question, but if they can't
- 1:55:40Speaker 5: get one, if they can't draft one. I'd be open
- 1:55:43Speaker 5: to seeing if Hooper would stash or sure, yeah, to
- 1:55:46Speaker 5: join Henry. I think those two guys have been pretty good.
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: I think it's a need, but it's not as big
- 1:55:51Speaker 3: a need as other areas.
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I actually looked into this today. I think I'm
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: going to write about them this week. They're fourth in
- 1:55:57Speaker 6: the league and receiving yards from tight ends right now.
- 1:56:00Speaker 5: Those two guys have been good.
- 1:56:01Speaker 6: Yeah. They have seventy catches between Henry and Hooper, so
- 1:56:04Speaker 6: his fourth in the league and seven hundred and twenty
- 1:56:07Speaker 6: eight yards is also fourth in the league behind you know,
- 1:56:09Speaker 6: Mark Andrews, Travis Kelcey brock Baller like behind the star
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: tight ends. But as a duo, they've been pretty solid.
- 1:56:16Speaker 6: And you know, look, I at this point you're probably
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: not thinking about in season extensions, but like Austin Hooper
- 1:56:22Speaker 6: is one that not for big money obviously, but I
- 1:56:25Speaker 6: would bring him back, you know, on a reasonable contract,
- 1:56:28Speaker 6: sure for sure.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: So here's one thing that I've had in mind about,
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: like ever since Alex van Pelt came. I think of
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: that offense and when they're high powered, it's big plays
- 1:56:42Speaker 5: to the tight end, and I don't think either one
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: of those guys has that necessarily, you know, that David
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: Nijoku skill set. So that's why I think maybe if
- 1:56:50Speaker 5: you can upgrade and get you know, I don't I
- 1:56:52Speaker 5: don't know if Jahem Belt could somehow.
- 1:56:54Speaker 4: He has that some of those traits.
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: He has that athletic skill set, but I don't know
- 1:56:58Speaker 5: if he's good enough to do it something to really
- 1:57:01Speaker 5: take advantage of Drake May's ability, because I think those
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: plays will you know, Yeah, I thought it was interesting
- 1:57:06Speaker 5: and I saw my show over here as we're getting
- 1:57:08Speaker 5: ready to sign off.
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: NBC Sports boss Albert Breer wrote a little bit.
- 1:57:11Speaker 5: You know, he had a notebook yesterday and he had
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: an like he was sort of asked around to some
- 1:57:17Speaker 5: rival teams that have played the Patriots what they think
- 1:57:20Speaker 5: of how Alex Van Pelt is handling Drake May. A
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: lot of complimentary things from opposing coach is but one
- 1:57:26Speaker 5: of the things that it mentioned is that he doesn't
- 1:57:29Speaker 5: have the pieces yet to do some of the things
- 1:57:31Speaker 5: that he likes to do. And that was one of
- 1:57:33Speaker 5: the things I thought of those They haven't gotten the
- 1:57:36Speaker 5: zone running really in gear right, They don't really have
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: the offensive line to do that once they do. I
- 1:57:43Speaker 5: look at Drake May and the way he's played and
- 1:57:46Speaker 5: his you know, the way he moves around and can
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: throw on the move and off platform and all that stuff.
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: Those hard play actions are going to be big plays
- 1:57:53Speaker 5: down the field. Hopefully this time next year, if you
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: can get some pieces that can make those big plays
- 1:57:59Speaker 5: for him.
- 1:58:01Speaker 3: What about the Gibson verse Formandre comparison.
- 1:58:05Speaker 6: It's gotta be something. It's got to be something about
- 1:58:08Speaker 6: the playbook or the reads or something that he's not
- 1:58:11Speaker 6: grasping mentally, because I agree with the caller, like when
- 1:58:15Speaker 6: he gets the ball in space, he's their most dynamic runners.
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: Yeah, and from a dead start, i'd like Remandre.
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:58:24Speaker 6: I unders like, you know, they run, They're gonna run
- 1:58:27Speaker 6: a screen like to a back or something like why
- 1:58:30Speaker 6: why is not Gibson on some of these like little
- 1:58:33Speaker 6: you know, swing screens or slip screens or whatever. And
- 1:58:36Speaker 6: I maybe they think it's gonna be too predictable. I
- 1:58:39Speaker 6: don't know, but it just seems like he's the better
- 1:58:41Speaker 6: fit for that sort of thing.
- 1:58:43Speaker 3: Yep. All right, So now now we'll say goodbye and
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: we'll say hello to the playbook. Coming up next. We'll
- 1:58:49Speaker 3: see you tomorrow.
