- 0:05Can we show our appreciation to the praise team for blessing us
- 0:09week after week especially tonight for the worship and just
- 0:12applaud and and I applaud you for singing Because as we know
- 0:22that was we come to sing. It's not a performance that
- 0:24we're witnessing. Its It's an effort that we all
- 0:27contribute to, you know, singing is a command in scripture, it's
- 0:31not a suggestion and so when we come to sing and when we do sing
- 0:36with fervent Hearts were actually obeying, the Lord
- 0:38Jesus. And so I'm glad that tonight.
- 0:40I felt like I was in a room with five six hundred people.
- 0:43I don't know if you felt the same way, but I was just
- 0:45overwhelmed by your voices and I was ministered to well.
- 0:48Now we worship in the word so meet me in the book of second.
- 0:51Samuel and we are still in Chapter 7.
- 0:55But we are at the halfway, mark. Tonight, we're continuing to
- 1:02examine one of the most important chapters in all of the
- 1:05Old Testament and perhaps the most crucial, and vital, and
- 1:10most pivotal chapter in both first.
- 1:13And second Samuel, you heard of it last week.
- 1:17If you were here last week that what we're dealing with in this
- 1:20tax is essentially a covenant that God makes with a man by the
- 1:23name of David and that Covenant is still in effect today that
- 1:27Covenant is still yet to know it's complete fulfillment.
- 1:30And in that Covenant touches so many aspects of the New Covenant
- 1:35that you and I are enjoying because of the Lord Jesus
- 1:38Christ. If you really think about it,
- 1:40when you read the prophets, what you'll see is that they often
- 1:43refer back to this chapter, this Covenant that God makes with
- 1:47this King as a source of Hope, and as a reminder to who they
- 1:52are called to be, and what God is planning to do through them,
- 1:56and it was an encouragement for Holiness, and when you open the
- 2:00first, Book of the New Testament.
- 2:01In Matthew chapter 1 there, we see the genealogy of Jesus,
- 2:05pointing his back to David, yes, and back to Abraham, but proving
- 2:08that he is from this Royal line that has great significance, not
- 2:12just for Israel, but for all of history, and, and even when you
- 2:16go to the last book of the cannon, even when you come to,
- 2:21the concluding verses of holy writ, you and I, we saw this
- 2:25last week in conclusion and Revelation 22:16, the Lord
- 2:30Jesus. Where is that?
- 2:31He is the root and what the descendant of David.
- 2:37I mean, this is this is how he chooses to identify himself in
- 2:41the final moments of Us closing, the entire library of sacred
- 2:46scripture and I believe in part why Jesus did that was so that
- 2:50as we come to the end of the book, which tells us of the
- 2:53future, the Lord makes that statement to tell all
- 2:56generations, All Nations, All Peoples, I kept my promise to
- 3:00David. I kept my promise to David all
- 3:06the way until the end. And so this Covenant which is
- 3:10really unconditional is more about God proving his
- 3:14faithfulness than anything else. It's not so much about Israel
- 3:19though. God selected and elected Israel
- 3:21to be the display case of his faithfulness but it is
- 3:26ultimately about God's character proving himself.
- 3:30To all of us that he is a promise keeper last week, you
- 3:34and I saw God's response to David's passionate desire to
- 3:40build him a house. And this week we're going to
- 3:43see, David's reaction to God's answer to his initial request.
- 3:51And we're going to read these verses in a moment and as I do
- 3:55as we've been doing week after week, you're going to lean in
- 3:57and pay attention as you follow in your Bibles and what we do as
- 4:02a drill so that we can practice the the skill in our own lives
- 4:05to look at the scriptures and ask questions, you're going to
- 4:08see certain things that stand out and then you're going to
- 4:11make some observations and I edifies me.
- 4:13It had advised me to see what you're able to see.
- 4:15Because I saw those things, many of those things during the week,
- 4:18and then for you to see it in one reading one, Is just like,
- 4:21wow. Wonderful.
- 4:23So pay attention, as we now come to verse 18 and follow until the
- 4:29it's a lot of versus. So we have to really pay
- 4:31attention. Don't let your mind get
- 4:32distracted. But, here's what the text reads.
- 4:36Then, King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, who am
- 4:42I O? Lord God.
- 4:44And what is my house? That you have brought me this
- 4:47far? And yet this was a small thing
- 4:50in your eyes. O Lord God, you have spoken also
- 4:54of your Servants house for a great while to come.
- 4:58And this is instruction for mankind.
- 5:00O, Lord God your version might say did something different in
- 5:03the Raise their verse 20 and what more can David say to you
- 5:09for you know your servant O Lord God because of your promise and
- 5:13according to your own heart you have brought about all this
- 5:16greatness to make your servant know it.
- 5:19Therefore you are great O Lord. God for there is none like you
- 5:23and there is no God besides you. According to all that we have
- 5:26heard with our ears and who is like your People Israel.
- 5:31The One Nation on Earth who Oh God.
- 5:34Went to redeem to be his people making himself a name and doing
- 5:38for them. Great and awesome things.
- 5:40By driving out before your people, whom you redeemed for
- 5:43yourself from Egypt, a nation and its gods.
- 5:47And you establish for yourself, your People Israel, to be your
- 5:50people forever, and You O Lord, became their God.
- 5:54And now O Lord God confirmed forever.
- 5:56The word that you've spoken concerning your servant and
- 6:00concerning his house and do as you have spoken And your name
- 6:05will be magnified forever saying the Lord of hosts has got over
- 6:09Israel and the house of your servant, David will be
- 6:11established Before You For You. O.
- 6:13Lord of hosts, the god of Israel have made this Revelation to
- 6:17your servants saying I will build you a house.
- 6:20Therefore, your servant has found courage to pray this
- 6:23prayer to you and now O Lord God you are God and your words are
- 6:28true and you have promised this good thing to your servant.
- 6:31Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your
- 6:33servant so It may continue forever Before You For You O.
- 6:37Lord, God have spoken and with your blessing shall the house of
- 6:41your servant be blessed forever. What a prayer, what a prayer.
- 6:46Keep in mind that this is David's response to the Lord.
- 6:50Telling him you're not going to build me a house.
- 6:53I'm going to build you a house. And what he means by that is not
- 6:57a physical house but a dynasty a royal line that would usher in
- 7:02the Messiah. This is David's reaction.
- 7:03So as we read that, as you heard that, as you followed along,
- 7:06anything stand out to you in this and this prayer.
- 7:12Yes. Very good observation.
- 7:18Your servant, your servant, your servant, your servant?
- 7:24He refers to himself as your servant, very important,
- 7:28anything else? Yes.
- 7:30Ryan He sat before the Lord. Did you see that?
- 7:36In verse 18, he went in and sat before the Lord.
- 7:39We will touch on that, very good.
- 7:44Yes. Hmm.
- 7:59Sure. It is a very humble response,
- 8:08right? From right.
- 8:09From the gate. Who Am I, who am I?
- 8:13Yes, beautiful heaven. Not so much.
- 8:36Did you see that Evan pointing out that the motivation?
- 8:41The the stirring factor of God establishing this davidic.
- 8:45Covenant is a his name would be magnified.
- 8:48Oh lord. Your name is going to be so
- 8:50magnified through this. I can't wait to see how it's
- 8:52going to be done. What a man?
- 8:54What a man? Yes.
- 8:56Great Point. Anything else?
- 8:59Very good observations. Yes, we're geese.
- 9:11Yes. Yes.
- 9:21So God's election of Israel is on display here.
- 9:24It's very clear, he chose them and do you remember in our study
- 9:26of Deuteronomy why he chose Israel?
- 9:30What's that? They were the leash or but
- 9:33there's another reason right? You had your hand up.
- 9:35Yeah, they were the least. That is one thing.
- 9:38But remember when the Lord says I loved you and does he explain
- 9:41why he loved them? Yeah, he made a covenant with
- 9:46Abram, but why do you even choose Abraham if you go to
- 9:49Deuteronomy chapter 7 and read the first several verses you'll
- 9:51see that? The Lord says you not to turn,
- 9:53there he goes. I loved you.
- 9:54And then you're ready for the explanation.
- 9:55He goes because I loved you. Lord.
- 9:58Can you expound a little bit more on?
- 10:00Why it is that you love Israel and he doesn't really give a
- 10:02reason for that. We can pick out some
- 10:06characteristics of why God would choose Israel in order to
- 10:09magnify himself. But when God explains he goes, I
- 10:11loved you because I loved you. Interesting.
- 10:15Maybe a couple more, yes. Hmm.
- 10:32Yes. Absolutely.
- 10:33Last week we touched on how suffering is not.
- 10:36The only thing that reveals who we are.
- 10:40Success has that same effect and David here is only being
- 10:44promoted more and the more he seems to be promoted the lower
- 10:47he seems to go That doesn't tend to have the same effect on a
- 10:53majority of people. But for this man he does.
- 10:55And there's an important reason why which will touch on at the
- 10:57end of this study. One more, maybe Yes.
- 11:09Yes, Therefore your servant has found courage to pray this
- 11:12prayer to you. In other words, there is a
- 11:15motivation that something from his heart sprung up for him to
- 11:19be able to come before the Lord in this way.
- 11:21And we're going to see what was that touched?
- 11:23His heart, and gave him the courage to come before the Lord,
- 11:26in this way. Are you ready Verse 18?
- 11:28And by the way, before we start, we're not going to deal with
- 11:31this text the way we usually do. We're not going to go line by
- 11:33line. We're not going to go verse by
- 11:35verse instead. We're gonna we're gonna hover
- 11:37over the text and have a bird's-eye view over all of it.
- 11:42And as we go through this text will really Going to pluck at
- 11:44different verses and we're going to try to survey the scene to
- 11:49try to identify dominant themes. So we're not going to go over
- 11:53every single verse here. We're just going to just fly
- 11:55over. And we're going to just touch
- 11:57this verse touch, that verse, kind of like what we just did.
- 11:59Now looking at observations and trying to connect all of them as
- 12:02we go through. But let's start with Verse 18,
- 12:05then, King David went in. Where did he go?
- 12:08We can only speculate some would believe in some would say, he
- 12:10came as close as possible to the Ark of the Covenant.
- 12:13Eminent he went in. Now, here's what's what's
- 12:18touching to me in our sister brought up in the beginning.
- 12:20King David, that's how the narrator identifies David.
- 12:23But how does David choose to refer to himself throughout his
- 12:26prayer? Are you certain?
- 12:30In this short prayer, a total of ten times.
- 12:33He says, your servant your servant, yours, the Lord's.
- 12:36Servant, the Lord's servant, seen eyes of men.
- 12:39David was a king because David lived in the light of God's
- 12:42presence. He saw himself as nothing, more
- 12:44than a servant. Regardless of the occupation
- 12:48regardless of any role that he had in this world.
- 12:52He ultimately saw himself as a servant who's been called to
- 12:56serve in a particular way. and what ministers to me about this
- 13:01is because David as a king Psalm self no greater than anybody
- 13:06else by identifying himself this way.
- 13:10Does anybody know anything about David's mother?
- 13:14According to the word of God. We know something about the
- 13:17father more than the mother, right?
- 13:19I mean, you have kind of there's questionable things about the
- 13:22relationship between David and his father, Jesse, he didn't
- 13:25even include him when Samuel asked for all the sons to come
- 13:29before him. So, that's there's a question
- 13:31mark there, but David's mother, does anybody have any clue from
- 13:34the scripture of what we know about David's mother?
- 13:38There is a first verse that reveals something about her.
- 13:48Psalm 86 verse 16 tells us something about David's mom.
- 13:53And in Psalm 86 16, we read David in another prayer looking
- 13:58to the Lord saying turn to me and be gracious to me.
- 14:01Give strength to your servant, the son of your maid servant.
- 14:06The son of your maidservant from that we can make this strong
- 14:12conclusion that David's mom. Was a genuine servant of God.
- 14:19How did she serve God? And what capacity?
- 14:21We can only assume perhaps it was solely in the confines of
- 14:25her home? And if she had any influence on
- 14:29David, that's enough for us to realize, what kind of his
- 14:32servants. She was, but, David is not just
- 14:35speaking here by the spirit. He speaking by way of testimony,
- 14:37his own eyes have have seen his mother over the years.
- 14:42She's a servant of God, she loves the Lord, she fears the
- 14:45Lord in such a way that she can penned this in a prayer and say,
- 14:48oh God. Would you remember where I came
- 14:50from? Would you remember your servant,
- 14:52my mom? Your maidservant.
- 14:54And I thought about that when I read, how he refers to himself
- 14:57as a servant, because his mom has an unknown vessel hidden
- 15:02loving the Lord behind the scenes.
- 15:04We don't even know her name. We don't know what she did in
- 15:07detail. And she's a servant of God
- 15:09nonetheless and yet in contrast David, our son, our renowned
- 15:13King. A popular psalmist.
- 15:17A warrior. And yet, when he says your
- 15:21servant in essence, he's saying I'm no better.
- 15:24Then my mom who nobody knew about, who nobody praised, but
- 15:30nobody promoted who nobody applauded, I'm a servant.
- 15:35Just like my mom was a servant. And in essence, you and I do we
- 15:40exercise different gifts that we exercise different positions.
- 15:43We all share the same status before God, we are all servants
- 15:46and our own respective ways. We are all Servants of God.
- 15:50We all stand on the same level before the cross.
- 15:54In fact, jesus takes it to another level when he when he
- 15:57seeks to teach us how we should view ourselves.
- 16:01He goes even further than how David says it. in Luke 17, 10,
- 16:07if you want a verse 2, you can choose whatever you want, but
- 16:12this is one of those verses that I tried to live under as a
- 16:16banner And Luke 17:10 Jesus says to his disciples.
- 16:21So you also When you have done all that, you were commended.
- 16:26Say, what are you supposed to say?
- 16:28When you are faithful, is it up there already?
- 16:29Okay. What are you supposed to say?
- 16:31When you, when you fulfill your ministry?
- 16:33What are you supposed to say? When people, thank you.
- 16:35What are you supposed to say? Not necessarily?
- 16:38Say it out loud. But I think say to yourself, we
- 16:40are unworthy servants. Not just servants unworthy
- 16:45servants. We've only done what was our
- 16:48duty. So the Lord says don't even see
- 16:51yourself as a servant. I want you to see yourself as
- 16:54unworthy servant, you know what that means?
- 16:57You're not doing me a favor by serving me.
- 17:00Now what a terrible thing that is to think that we come to the
- 17:03house of God or to think that we serve God outside of his his
- 17:06church and Lord, I'm doing you a favor just put it on my point
- 17:11sheet and I'll come back to refer to that when I want to
- 17:13redeem something, huh? You are not even worthy to serve
- 17:18God. I'm not even worthy to serve him
- 17:22to wait on him, to die for him to live for him.
- 17:27That's a. Holy is it's an honor to serve
- 17:30God, no matter what it demands of me.
- 17:33So even in the act of service, I'm supposed to realize and
- 17:38rehearse over myself, I'm not even worthy to do this.
- 17:42I can't believe I get to do this.
- 17:44That's how the Lord wants us to feel about how we serve him not
- 17:47to compare. And I think compete to try to
- 17:51elevate ourselves in position and title.
- 17:53No, you're unworthy. Regardless of what you do.
- 17:58And we come back to this text, then, King David went in and our
- 18:01brother, I'd mention it and he sat before the Lord.
- 18:04I'm not going to sit because it might take me a while to get
- 18:06back up. He sat before the law I want you
- 18:08to visualize that. Here's this king who sits on a
- 18:12throne, but in the presence of God, he sits on the floor.
- 18:16He's so humbled by the Majesty of God that he can't.
- 18:19He would not even dare. To sit on anything that would
- 18:22try to compete with the Majesty of God.
- 18:25Now, here's the thing, that's interesting sitting is not a
- 18:27common posture of Prayer in the Bible.
- 18:30It's not kneeling is laying, prostrate is, but sitting is not
- 18:34so common and we don't want to read too much into this but if I
- 18:38were to, let's say, let's say you you came over to my house,
- 18:42right? And you're standing at the door.
- 18:46And I say, sit down here. Why are you standing sit down?
- 18:49What am I asking you to do? I'm asking you to remain longer.
- 18:53I am asking you to linger. I'm asking you to park so to
- 18:56speak. And I believe there's something
- 18:59here with David sitting in the presence of God sitting before
- 19:02the Lord. He was essentially choosing to
- 19:05remain in God's presence. He was essentially saying I'm
- 19:09here to extend my stay before the face of God, right?
- 19:16So he's not entering in and out to pay his dues.
- 19:19He's not in thoughtless transition, trying to just come
- 19:24in and out. He is essentially saying Lord
- 19:27with this posture. I'm coming before you because I
- 19:32enjoy you. I enjoy sitting at the feet of
- 19:38Jesus. It was a deep Delight for David
- 19:45to know that he can come with a swollen heart.
- 19:48Not always like we heard, not just because of Brokenness, but
- 19:51because of the goodness of God and to spill his soul before the
- 19:55Lord, knowing with full trust that this God, this Almighty
- 19:59being, here's everything that he's saying and takes into
- 20:03consideration this like this was like, I can't believe this is
- 20:08possible. So he sits before the Lord,
- 20:12essentially saying I'm not going anywhere to Quick your lord.
- 20:15I want to give you my undivided attention.
- 20:19And I want to give you focused affection, that's what that
- 20:23posture communicates. Can I ask you just a simple
- 20:26question and in this busy life, in this transient culture that
- 20:32we live in when was the last time you have genuinely not
- 20:34necessarily physically, but in your heart, Paused and placed
- 20:40yourself before God in a way. Were you saying, Lord, I'm going
- 20:44to consecrate this select time to simply adore you And I know
- 20:53it's different for all of us. How that looks.
- 20:57But is this something? We even crave?
- 20:59I think that's an important question.
- 21:00Is this something we long for right?
- 21:03Lord, I just want to sit before you.
- 21:05I really in private just come before you and I just want to as
- 21:09a response to the goodness that you have shown me to declare how
- 21:14good you are. That is something that you and I
- 21:18have a privilege of doing as Believers in Jesus Christ and we
- 21:22don't have to pack our bags. Remember, going to the airport
- 21:24once and I think this group of young Muslims and they were
- 21:26going to fulfill their their pilgrimage, right?
- 21:29They have to go all the way to Mecca and do a bunch of stuff.
- 21:31And I thought to myself my God allows me to come wherever and
- 21:34whenever And that's what you and I have in Jesus Christ, and it
- 21:40is there that you find rest. It is there that you find peace.
- 21:43It is, there you find instruction.
- 21:45It is there where you find Jew, true, genuine fellowship with
- 21:48almighty. God, believe that, right?
- 21:52But sitting here also, symbolizes something else.
- 21:54So at the end of the service, sometimes depending on what
- 21:56shoes I'm wearing, sometimes I'm talking to people say, can I sit
- 21:59down for a little bit? Not because I'm lazy, but
- 22:01because my feet sometimes do weird things, so I got to sit
- 22:05down, right? So what does that symbolize?
- 22:09I heard somebody Whispering it rest.
- 22:12Rest, right? So I'm looking at this, I'm
- 22:15trying to think in my mind. Also have different different
- 22:17characters in the Bible who have sat before the Lord.
- 22:20Can you think of some Who said, I saw your mouth Mary of Bethany
- 22:25who sat before the Lord. While her sister, was running
- 22:27around, right trying to bake and cook and put things together and
- 22:31and sub criticizing Mary. That's a whole different sermon
- 22:33on its own. Yes, she sat before the Lord and
- 22:36Jesus, this is the good portion. This is what she's choosing to
- 22:39do. It won't be taken from her, and
- 22:40this is a good thing. Absolutely.
- 22:42There's other places as well, who else sits before the Lord?
- 22:45He's not a main character, but it's an important picture.
- 22:53Yeah, they sat before the Lord, Jesus sat, when he taught at
- 22:56times, there's a particular character in Jesus ministry that
- 23:00I am that I am thinking of that was highlighted for sitting
- 23:05before him after something occurred in his life.
- 23:14All this would be good then. Do you remember in the country
- 23:17of the gadarenes? The Click yet.
- 23:21Here, is this wild man? Change can't subdue him.
- 23:25They try to do everything to lock him up, and he keeps
- 23:27breaking those chains and he keeps running around,
- 23:30terrorizing the towns and the neighborhood's, Jesus steps on
- 23:33the scene, delivers him from a legion of demons.
- 23:36And then the, the city hears about it and they're terrified
- 23:39because their business, some of their businesses was just
- 23:41crashed. And so they approached the scene
- 23:44and they find this man who had the reputation of being
- 23:48Unstoppable. His craziness.
- 23:52Clothed in his right mind and Luke tells us in his version
- 23:57sitting before the feet of Jesus.
- 24:04And what's what's so comforting? What's so powerful about that
- 24:09picture? Is that beforehand?
- 24:11We're told that the demons in him would drive him into the
- 24:14desert. He was Restless, he was wild.
- 24:18He was uncontrollable, he was constantly on the move, but one
- 24:22encounter with Jesus Christ. Kept them in one place.
- 24:27And that rest that you see this meant, I don't know why I
- 24:29picture him. Just like, his legs are folded
- 24:31with brand new clothes sitting at Jesus feet.
- 24:35And what that teaches is that when the Lord truly encounters,
- 24:39you and saves you and delivers you, he satisfies you.
- 24:45And now unlike what you were like before you're not running
- 24:48around, trying to find some kind of solution to the torment of
- 24:52your soul. Like we just heard there is no
- 24:55peace for the wicked. Now, you can sit.
- 24:58And here's the thing by sitting here saying, I don't want to go
- 25:01anywhere. And so that man.
- 25:03What he teaches us, I'm not looking for anything else
- 25:05anymore. I found it right here, right
- 25:08here. You know, sometimes I look at
- 25:09people. Throughout the years throughout
- 25:12the past 10 years, especially young people and they are
- 25:14restless. Many of them restless and they
- 25:17feel like they have to travel everywhere just to keep their
- 25:19minds busy. Tried to find some experience
- 25:22that will calm their nerves or they go from relationship to
- 25:26relationship where they go from job, that you can just see how
- 25:28Restless they are. And I often think if you only
- 25:32have tasted his goodness, if you've only allowed the genuine
- 25:36power of God to win your heart, you can stay in one place and
- 25:43not saying that, the physical movements there is always
- 25:45alluding to that, but sometimes it does, sometimes it does.
- 25:50And so we see here that that David's it's before the Lord, he
- 25:54satisfied and he just wants to pour out his heart and this is
- 25:58what he's about to do. We read it, right?
- 26:00So now we come to this text and I want us to again, we're bird's
- 26:04eye view. We're not going verse by verse.
- 26:06Can I draw something to your attention?
- 26:09We mentioned a lot of things that we do.
- 26:10See in David's prayer. What's a key thing that's
- 26:14missing in his prayer, and it's not a negative thing.
- 26:18What is missing in David's prayer?
- 26:22Now, here's how we can hone in and we can we can because
- 26:25there's a lot of things. Missing right, technically
- 26:27there's a lot of things missing but in light of God's response
- 26:31to his desire to build him a house.
- 26:37What would you expect David to do if he was in the flesh?
- 26:40There, I'll say that much. Complain.
- 26:45Murmur sulk grumble. So David doesn't come before the
- 26:52presence of the Lord. And you know what?
- 26:53Lord, I'm just trying to help you out.
- 26:57I want to do this for your namesake.
- 26:59You don't want me to do it. He's just somebody better than
- 27:01me. And what I've done for you, none
- 27:04of that. He responded to God's know with
- 27:08gratitude, not grumbling gratitude.
- 27:14And there was no evidence of irritation.
- 27:16There is no sign of resentment. There is no, there is nothing
- 27:20else. But a, submissive spirit that
- 27:22could genuinely accept the Fate that God had ordained for his
- 27:25days. David, you're not going to do
- 27:28this. There's somebody else I have in
- 27:30mind and this man could accept that.
- 27:33He could Embrace that in a worshipful Spirit.
- 27:37That's significant. Listen the willingness to
- 27:41worship, God pay. To do this the willingness to
- 27:45worship God and his sovereignty. In the face of his denials is
- 27:51one of the truest marks of a mature man or woman of God.
- 27:55The ability to worship God in the face of his denials is one
- 27:59of the truest marks of a true man or woman of God.
- 28:04Do you know why David could accept the no from God?
- 28:07Because David as we heard was a servant of God and he believed
- 28:11that about himself. I'm your servant.
- 28:13Do you know why? It is that some Christians get
- 28:15upset with God? Bitter against God?
- 28:18Complain to God? It's because they believe God is
- 28:21their servant. We wouldn't want a mint that But
- 28:26that's why that's why some people become so sour in their
- 28:30souls is because they have adopted this idea as much as
- 28:33they go to a conservative bible-believing church, if
- 28:36they've adopted this concept that, if I ask God, he better
- 28:40give it to me and if he doesn't that he's not worthy of my total
- 28:42devotion. Well, my sister, my brother
- 28:47since when did God owe you anything?
- 28:51Just be real with that since. When does God?
- 28:53Oh, you and I are a thing. Anything that we have, even the
- 28:59clothes on your back, right? The ability to see through these
- 29:03eyes is a gift in itself. God doesn't owe us a thing.
- 29:08Not one thing. And David understood from the
- 29:11position of a servant. I can take a No.
- 29:16In fact, look how look how he addresses the Lord in verse 22
- 29:19of their chapter. Second Samuel 722.
- 29:23Therefore you are great O Lord. God for there is none like you
- 29:29and there is no God besides you. According to all that we have
- 29:32heard with our ears. Okay.
- 29:35Now, let's be honest, how many of us can say, in light of a
- 29:39know, like a closed door, or something happening, or us
- 29:43feeling that we are being guided into a direction of life that we
- 29:46did not intend to move. Towards can say, you're great.
- 29:49Lord, You're great, I can genuinely say, you are great.
- 29:59You and I should be able to say that every time, not just great,
- 30:02he's greatly to be praised because he is a great God.
- 30:05Who is infinitely? Kind infinitely wise to us, who
- 30:09are infinitely, unworthy? And I get it.
- 30:13You and I are wrapped with this flesh, that doesn't like
- 30:17rejection isn't like the client doesn't like refusals, right?
- 30:25So there's a discipline that we need to have to be able to avoid
- 30:30that ugly face before God and its really found in David's
- 30:34prayer here. Do you know how David can do
- 30:36this? Not just because he's so soft as
- 30:38a servant. But there's a second thing here.
- 30:40David in his prayer is focusing on what God gave him, not what
- 30:43God didn't give him. Look at Verse 18, then.
- 30:48King David went in and sat before the Lord and said, who am
- 30:51I Lord God. And what is my house that you
- 30:54have brought me this far? This man is not bothered At All.
- 30:59By the fact that he was not handed, the sole responsibility
- 31:03of constructing a house for God. He's not.
- 31:05He's that stirred at all because he's captivated by something
- 31:09else, he's captivated by the realization of God's
- 31:13providential. Dealings up to this point in his
- 31:14life and the excitement of what God has for them in the future.
- 31:19This is what consumes him this is, what gets him going.
- 31:22This is what brings them before, the presence of the Lord.
- 31:24With a mouthful of Raise. And look, it's obvious here that
- 31:31he was overwhelmed by the past, mercies of God, he's overwhelmed
- 31:34by what he's going to do and as much as this chapter is about a
- 31:37unique Covenant between God. And one man that's not to be
- 31:39repeated, there's a Code there's a code here in this context and
- 31:45this code in this context, reveals a characteristic of God
- 31:50that applies to each of us here on this Friday night.
- 31:53And here's here it is ready. Our days, our days, each of our
- 31:58days. Are divinely planned.
- 32:01Even when plans, don't go according to our plans.
- 32:05Confusing. Our days are divinely planned,
- 32:09even though things don't go according to plan, let me put it
- 32:12this way for the true servant of God.
- 32:16When anything seems to fall through it in actuality Falls
- 32:20right into place. When anything seems to fall
- 32:24through. And in reality, if your hand is
- 32:26in the hand, of God Falls, exactly where God intended it to
- 32:30be. And the Lord could have told
- 32:34David after. David said, I want to build you
- 32:37a house. He could have told David, you're
- 32:38not going to build me a house somebody else and kept it at
- 32:40that but he doesn't do that. He tells David you wanted to
- 32:44build me a house. I'm actually going to build you
- 32:46a dynasty and in this process I'm going to have a temple built
- 32:50for my name. In other words, David, you have
- 32:53this one desire. I have a greater desire.
- 32:54You have this one idea how this bigger plan, and he communicates
- 32:58that to David. Now, here's the thing.
- 33:00The davidic Covenant that we benefit from it, it's not Not
- 33:03about us. You're right you're not gonna
- 33:05have Royal lines right? That's not happening.
- 33:07That's already established and it's working now but you have
- 33:10promises as a Christian You really have promises cater
- 33:14towards you, because you're in Christ because Christ is the
- 33:17firstborn among many brethren. We are co-heirs with Christ.
- 33:21You and I have certain promises for us.
- 33:27How many of those promises do you truly rehearse and believe
- 33:31for yourself? He you ready for this?
- 33:35I want to ask you personally how much the promises of God filter,
- 33:39your view of the future of your future.
- 33:41And here's one way to test that. It might sting you a little bit
- 33:44but it's good. Its healthy.
- 33:46All right. How many promises do you know
- 33:50from God's word that you actually hold onto for your
- 33:54life? Anything running through your
- 33:57mind. I'm not asking I'm not asking if
- 34:02you believe that God has made promises to his children.
- 34:06Every Christian would say, yes, I'm asking very specific
- 34:09question. Which promises in God's word?
- 34:13Do you actually hold onto and believe applies to your life?
- 34:19Fill in the blank? Your name.
- 34:24I'm curious to know actually, because I'm about to give you a
- 34:26homework. Tell me some promises that you
- 34:30believe in God's word. Amen.
- 34:39Ephesians 2:8. Beautiful.
- 34:41Yes. I will never leave you nor
- 34:43forsake you. Now, again, my question is not
- 34:47which, what promises do you know, in the Bible?
- 34:50Which ones do you hold on to that?
- 34:53Come to your mind? That that that visit you in a
- 34:56specific moment or circumstance? Those promises I'm asking about
- 35:02Isn't that interesting? Isn't that interesting?
- 35:06This book is pregnant with promises pregnant.
- 35:15And not in a way of condemnation.
- 35:16But even if for myself when I when I looked at this I thought
- 35:19look how much of God's promise to David just stimulated him and
- 35:23I pause I step back I said Lord teaching the Bible quoting the
- 35:27Bible but what promises really can bring me to my knees and
- 35:31worship. I can tell you some promises
- 35:34about eternity about salvation of all that but which promises
- 35:38do I really believe Here's your homework.
- 35:41All right? You're going to go to God's word
- 35:43this week and you're going to look for a promise, not just a
- 35:46random promise but a promise that you know, will will bless
- 35:51you and that you can look to and that you can memorize next week
- 35:56I'm going to ask what promises you learn for your life and I
- 36:00hope to see as many hands as possible.
- 36:02That's your assignment. That's your assignment.
- 36:05Can I give you one of mine? one of the ones that I often
- 36:09think about, and come to me in times of need and in times of
- 36:14persecution, this is a promise in Hebrews 13:5, and it says
- 36:19this, Keep your life free from the Love of Money.
- 36:24And be content with what you have for.
- 36:27He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you But second
- 36:31to that, so we can confidently, say the Lord is my helper.
- 36:37I will not fear. What can man do to me?
- 36:43That's a promise in the New Covenant and what's beautiful is
- 36:45both of those quotations. I will never leave you nor
- 36:47forsake you and what can man do to me?
- 36:51The Lord is my helper. I will not fear what you meant
- 36:53to me. Are both the first one,
- 36:55arguably. The second one.
- 36:56Definitely from the Psalms, from the Psalms, And the New
- 37:01Testament authors pulls it out of the book of Psalms and throws
- 37:04it at the New Covenant Christian she's that's for you that's for
- 37:08you. And so, I've known moments.
- 37:14We're Lord, you need to step in here.
- 37:17Well, I told you I'll never leave you nor forsake.
- 37:19You watch me, pull through. And I've known moments where men
- 37:22have reared, their ugly heads. And if threatened And I told
- 37:26myself and others, if the Lord is truly with us, man, can't do
- 37:30anything to us. You see we need to know the
- 37:34promises of God. We can't be illiterate with
- 37:37this, we can be It's affecting God's glory to a degree and it's
- 37:42affecting something of our joy in the Lord.
- 37:45Okay. So we see here that David David
- 37:48understood something clear, which brings me to my next
- 37:51Point. Look here to verse 27 of second
- 37:53Samuel 7. This is, this is wonderful.
- 37:59David says for you, oh, lord of hosts.
- 38:02The god of Israel have made this Revelation to your servant
- 38:08saying, I will build you a house.
- 38:10Therefore, your servant has found courage to pray this
- 38:13prayer to you. So David is telling the Lord and
- 38:18telling us, there is a reason that I'm able to come so freely,
- 38:23so boldly before the Lord. And what's that reason?
- 38:32What does he say in verse 27? What gave him the courage, what
- 38:38invited him to come, so close to the Lord and to speak in the way
- 38:42that he speaks. Revelation.
- 38:49You have made this revelation. so, You and I cannot mature in
- 38:58our praying until we first mature in our understanding of
- 39:03the word of God. It was revelation.
- 39:07That pumped in him. The courage to pray in the way
- 39:11that he prayed. Appraised filled prayer, right?
- 39:16Heart-stirring prayer, passionate prayer, God
- 39:19glorifying prayer that all stemmed from revelation.
- 39:25Something that God had made known to him his word.
- 39:28Yes, in his life but also the word that we have before us that
- 39:31is the very thing that caused him to be able to praise.
- 39:35And to be able to pray, can I tell you why many Christians
- 39:38don't praise and why many Christians struggle to pray?
- 39:42They lack Insight concerning God's revelation.
- 39:47That's one. Major reason why?
- 39:52When you come to this word, you have to understand.
- 39:56That it is the source of many of the things that you, and I tried
- 40:02to do in our spiritual journey with the Lord before I get
- 40:04there. Have you noticed that David in
- 40:07this prayer? Expresses Wonder.
- 40:12And amazement in the form of questions.
- 40:15Anybody noticed that. So, look at Verse 18, we saw,
- 40:18right? Who am I?
- 40:19What is my house that you've brought me this far?
- 40:22Now, if you have the King James of the new King, James, who is
- 40:23the King James? I know that you do, who has new
- 40:26King, James new King James, this verse 19 spell out as a question
- 40:30because I know the King James does, right?
- 40:33So if you have the new King James of the King, James verse
- 40:3519 is another question. Any other translation come to
- 40:38verse 20 and what more can David say to you?
- 40:42That's another question for, you know, you're serving the lord
- 40:45God. Now scroll down to verse 23,
- 40:46it's a longer question, who is like your People Israel when
- 40:50nation on Earth? Whom God went to redeem to be as
- 40:53people. We scroll down, whom you redeem
- 40:55for yourself from Egypt and nation and its gods.
- 40:59This man this man based on his personal history with God and
- 41:04the history of the nation of Israel comes before.
- 41:07The Lord in Wonder wrapped in questions.
- 41:12Stunned by the goodness of God. Where he goes.
- 41:14God! Who am I God?
- 41:15Who's this? Nation God.
- 41:16I can't believe that these things are true.
- 41:20But it all comes from what God has done who God says he is what
- 41:25God has promised us that is the very thing that got him going.
- 41:31And I want you to see that. As I said earlier, communion
- 41:36with God and so many aspects of our spirituality is dependent
- 41:41upon your engagement with the Bible, okay?
- 41:45There's a reason why the, the leaders of this church when we
- 41:49preach and we exhort there's a reason why much of our
- 41:52application is. Know your Bible get into the
- 41:56Bible, read your Bible study, your Bible.
- 41:59Know your why? Because we understand that the
- 42:02Bible itself, testifies about itself.
- 42:05That's so much that we want to master or know the maturity and
- 42:09comes from first, a foundation that is what you're holding in
- 42:12your hand tonight. Okay.
- 42:14I'm going to prove it to you Colossians 3:16, let the word of
- 42:18Christ. Do what?
- 42:20Oh, you have the word in you? Yes, dwell in you richly richly.
- 42:26Every time I read that verse every time I'm in Colossians, I
- 42:28ask Lord and I do an inventory. Is your word in me?
- 42:33Not just in me. Is it in me richly?
- 42:36That's what I'ma is the tank on, on the letter, f.
- 42:40Is it abundant is it isn't? There is an overflowing.
- 42:46Is it on my tongue? Is it in my thoughts?
- 42:49Is it something? I sing.
- 42:52Or is it just in a corner of my heart?
- 42:54That's not what the Holy Spirit saying the holy spirit.
- 42:55Let it dwell richly. Let it be a spring that bubbles
- 42:58up. Let the word have that kind of
- 43:00abiding force in your life. And when you go to Colossians
- 43:053:16, you see the results of the word of Christ.
- 43:10Dwelling in US richly. There's two main things.
- 43:12The first is what teaching? And admonishing, one another and
- 43:16all wisdom, okay? When the word of Christ was in a
- 43:20person richly, they now reach to an ability where they can, they
- 43:25can be a source of great, wisdom, guidance, exhortation
- 43:29and warning to others, and others can recognize that.
- 43:33So, then you become some source Of a well where they can draw
- 43:37from not because of anything who you are, but what lives in you,
- 43:41right? So now, because Christ's words
- 43:44in you, it comes out of you and it touches those around you.
- 43:48That's what happens when the word of Christ dwell in you
- 43:50richly. I can guarantee you somebody who
- 43:52has the word of Christ dwell in, you richly, can't keep the word
- 43:54of Christ dwelling in them silently.
- 43:56Does this doesn't happen? I know those people brother.
- 43:59I just saw this in the word of God.
- 44:01Do you believe this is? I've just been studying this
- 44:02order and they just can't stop. Or when you get up when you ask
- 44:05for advice, it always points to Something in the Bible.
- 44:09Right, it's not like every scenario and I know a few
- 44:12people. Like there's any scenario in
- 44:14life, you ask them for advice like well, you know, most this
- 44:17will happen to Moses, you remember that you remember,
- 44:19whether everything is a reference, to a text, a
- 44:22reference to a story reference, to a promise of reference to a
- 44:24warning and I'm blessed by it because it's God's word, it's
- 44:29God's word for, and many of those times it's something that
- 44:32I, maybe forgot something that I missed, but I'm so blessed.
- 44:36When somebody has the word of Christ in them rich.
- 44:40But the word of Christ dwelling in Us in such a degree is not
- 44:44just intellectual. It's emotional because he goes
- 44:46on to say singing, Psalms and hymns and spiritual songs with
- 44:52thankfulness in your hearts, to God.
- 44:56The more you study, the more you learn, the more you will
- 44:58discover in the sacred book, wonderful things, the more
- 45:01Sparks will flicker in your soul and will Electrify worship.
- 45:09So the words in you and just something happens, right?
- 45:11There's just these Embers and then you're being blown on by
- 45:15the word of God, in a flame starts and then it begins to
- 45:18start and cause you to sing, not mechanically, not routinely with
- 45:24your mouth. Hims, not that Paul says, with
- 45:27thankfulness in your heart, Your heart is engaged, your heart
- 45:33comes to life, and something happens to you.
- 45:35And to the point where you're unashamedly singing to the Lord,
- 45:40as a result of what a talented worship band, a new kind of song
- 45:46with new tricks in a very clever Bridge or no, because the word
- 45:51of Christ dwelling in you richly.
- 45:54The word of Christ being poured into you richly through deep
- 45:58theological music. Something happens, it begins to
- 46:01affect you, even emotionally. And it's Thanksgiving, right?
- 46:07Thankfulness in your heart that you learned that you read
- 46:10anything in the word and you realize oh he is worthy of my
- 46:13gratitude and it comes from a genuine place of pleasure.
- 46:19Here's the thing. you have some people have this weird
- 46:24misconception in Christendom, I don't know and it circulates
- 46:29That. Coming to the Bible studying,
- 46:32the Bible reading. The Bible is intellectual
- 46:35gymnastics, it's heady. And if you're, if you're
- 46:39well-versed if you're educated, you're probably dry.
- 46:43You probably stuffy, you probably don't have an intimate
- 46:46walk with the Lord, and I get it because those people exist
- 46:50because it's not an automatic promise.
- 46:52That the more you study, the more you will be blessed the way
- 46:54clashes talks about. It depends on your attitude and
- 46:57approach to the word of God. IE the Pharisees okay.
- 47:01So that's true, there is protocol.
- 47:03And very limited protocol. Just really humility and longing
- 47:06to know, God, on a personal level and obey the word.
- 47:10But there's this weird idea that if you, if you learn, if you
- 47:13compare, if you get deep, if you do, all these things with words
- 47:17on a page, its intellectual it's academic, but it's not
- 47:22spiritual. It's one of the most spiritual
- 47:24exercises you can be doing Can you think of another passage in
- 47:31one of the Epistles where the reality is that?
- 47:34I just read to you from Colossians, 3:16 are very
- 47:37similar. I think addressing one another
- 47:41in Psalms, hymns, spiritual songs can be thanks in your
- 47:44heart. Thank you.
- 47:48Did you hear that? In the very same place where
- 47:53Paul tells the Ephesians to not be drunk with wine but be filled
- 47:57with the Holy Spirit, okay? I want you to see this and
- 48:00Ephesians, 5:18 turn there very quickly.
- 48:08Here's what I'm about to show you.
- 48:11The results of the word of Christ.
- 48:13Dwelling in US, richly are identical to the results that
- 48:18come from being filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 48:22Have you ever noticed that when you compare those two texts?
- 48:25Look. Ephesians 818 is only an
- 48:28expansion of what Colossians 3:16 Says, and do not get drunk
- 48:31with wine for that is debauchery.
- 48:33But be filled with the spirit addressing one.
- 48:35Another in Psalms, and hymns, and spiritual songs singing, and
- 48:39making Melody to the Lord, with your heart giving.
- 48:41Thanks always and for everything to God, the father, in the name
- 48:43of our Lord, Jesus Christ. So look what the holy spirit is
- 48:48trying to show us. Having the word in you.
- 48:53Is synonymous inseparable. To being filled with the Holy
- 48:58Spirit. So if there's this idea of
- 49:03ignoring or neglecting the Bible, but hopefully wanting to
- 49:07be filled with the Holy Spirit is a delusion, it's a delusion.
- 49:11It doesn't exist and people and I've seen many Christians like
- 49:16this who claimed to be Spirit-filled people, right?
- 49:21But have little respect For the proclamation of the word of God,
- 49:26studying the word of God, expounding the word of God.
- 49:29Such people have a false sense of spirituality.
- 49:33No matter how much emotion they show demonstrate, I'll tell you
- 49:39this. Many of the people that I've
- 49:40known in my own life that we're, that seemed to be the most
- 49:42excited about God, but we're very shallow with the word of
- 49:45God. That it was a vacuum cleaner.
- 49:46Just collected dust in the house, more than anything else.
- 49:49Are in dangerous places today, and sin, serious sin, ugly sin.
- 49:56Because they were chasing spirituality without being
- 50:01anchored, in the word of God and that will eventually lead you
- 50:05into heresy, eventually. It's going to lead you into
- 50:08weird practices. Weird Doctrine or, all right.
- 50:11All out sin in the end but the holy spirit says, if you want to
- 50:16be filled with the Holy Spirit, guess what?
- 50:18You need to be filled with the word of God.
- 50:20That's what he's trying to say by this.
- 50:22They have the paralleling effects.
- 50:25So eat this word suck. The honey out of this were
- 50:30dispersion would say just in, just indulge in this word and
- 50:33realize that if you come with the posture of obedience of
- 50:37humility of worship, then the spirits power will flow into
- 50:41your heart. as you bring this word, into that heart, And so,
- 50:47David could come in this powerful prayer before God's
- 50:51presence because of verse 27, which tells us of a revelation
- 50:55that was the thrust that brought him into this intimacy.
- 50:58With the Lord God's word itself to him in his life, believe that
- 51:03Frieza, I hope that revolutionizes our lives
- 51:07Revolutionizes Our Lives. If you want your prayer life to
- 51:11be blessed, if you want your singing, to be blessed, if you
- 51:14want your attitude, to be blessed.
- 51:15If you want your emotional state to be blessed.
- 51:19Hug this word embrace it. No, it growing, it talk about
- 51:24it, love it and watch what will happen to you.
- 51:30I won't go too much further. Let's come back to our prayer
- 51:32here you with one final thought. Many of you brought up all of
- 51:39these points. Here's one.
- 51:41Last one before we close. David's praying was motivated by
- 51:44God's glory. Our brother read earlier in
- 51:47verse 25 and 26, and I will Lord God, confirmed forever.
- 51:50The word that you've spoken concerning your servant and
- 51:53concerning his house and do, as you have spoken, pause for what
- 51:57For what? Lord, because I yeah.
- 52:02I did do pretty good. Didn't I?
- 52:03As a Shepherd? I was faithful when I was
- 52:05unknown. Yeah, I stood up the Goliath
- 52:10when nobody else would. I could have killed Saul but I
- 52:13didn't. I'm so humble, think I'm gonna
- 52:16write a book about me? Humility.
- 52:20No, first 26, and your name will be magnified forever.
- 52:28David's longing for God to confirm his promise to him and
- 52:31his descendants was so that for Generations.
- 52:34God's name would be exalted. That was what moved his heart to
- 52:39the core and I want to tell you this live like that pray like
- 52:44that. Make decisions with that in mind
- 52:48for many reasons, right? Or else we will we will be
- 52:52indicted for the crime of using God as a means for our own
- 52:55Glory. That's a that's a very ugly.
- 52:59But for other reasons I don't think people are aware of the
- 53:03wonderful security and joy that is reserved for those who are
- 53:07completely convinced that they want God's glory to be known at
- 53:12any cost, there is something so protective and pleasurable
- 53:17living that way. A heart that's in golf to this
- 53:23degree. Literally when your heart is
- 53:26just coated with that, it leaves no room for jealousy for Envy
- 53:32for Pride to penetrate and make a home in that heart.
- 53:36It just like, living for God's. Glory, is like a bulletproof
- 53:40vest for your soul. It's very difficult to infect
- 53:45that person with something as hideous as what we see in Saul.
- 53:50So because David was so in love with the glory of God when God
- 53:56said David I love what's in your heart but you're not going to be
- 53:59the guy that's going to build me this house.
- 54:01David can say, who Am I, who am I Spurgeon said, be willing o
- 54:10vessel in the house of the Lord. To be hung up on a nail in the
- 54:16wall. Or to be late aside in a corner.
- 54:22If so God would be glorified for, thus, was it with David
- 54:25seemed to say they're be pleased to be hung on a wall by now, or
- 54:30be pleased to be stuffed in a corner.
- 54:34If in doing so God would be glorified.
- 54:38So David could receive the no because if the gnomon God's
- 54:42glory then let it be no you see more than that David.
- 54:49When he saw God using somebody else blessing.
- 54:51Somebody else promoting somebody was not was not Okay, you're in
- 54:57the way even if it was his son Solomon, right?
- 55:01And you might say, well, of course, he's happy, it's his son
- 55:03who wouldn't be happy. He would have feel some kind of
- 55:06Pride if their son was being used by God in such a way.
- 55:09Are we actually under the persuasion that sin cannot so
- 55:14Kill us that we can actually look at a relative even our own
- 55:17offspring and despised them. Do we forget so easily about
- 55:20Saul who with his own son, Jonathan, when he seemed to be a
- 55:25threat to receiving praise, he did something about it.
- 55:29That's how ugly sin can make us. And yet this man David was not
- 55:33shifted in any direction because he was so grounded in this glory
- 55:38of God, really. And so, when it came to Solomon
- 55:42being elevated, being promoted, you know what David could do.
- 55:46He can encourage him. So David David had the door
- 55:50closed of not being able to build the temple, but what did
- 55:52David do we know this? What did he end up doing about
- 55:54the temple? He prepared all the material.
- 55:58He's okay. Fine.
- 55:59If I can't have that position then let me do whatever I can to
- 56:02make sure that God is glorified. I have all these resources I
- 56:04have all these connections. We're going to get all the
- 56:06material yes we gathers all the material prepares for his son
- 56:11and more than that in first Chronicles 28.
- 56:13He looks at his own son, you don't have to turn there but
- 56:15listen to these words, this man who was told no you're not going
- 56:19to build, your son is going to build can look at this son of
- 56:23his and say to him in verse twenty first car. 28.
- 56:27Then David said to Solomon his son, be strong and courageous be
- 56:31strong and courageous and do it. Do not be afraid and do not be
- 56:35dismayed for the Lord. God even my God is with you, he
- 56:39will not leave you or forsake you until all the work of the
- 56:41service of the house of the Lord is finished.
- 56:48David was able to energetically encourage Solomon.
- 56:52Do you know why? Because of the glory of God, and
- 56:54if we don't live for the glory of God, you know, what can
- 56:56happen. We are in danger of envying, the
- 56:59very ones that were supposed to be encouraging.
- 57:03Hi. We're in danger of looking at a
- 57:06brother a sister who has been anointed by the Holy Spirit, who
- 57:10has been, who has been given greater expansion of influence
- 57:13and to feel as though they are competitor instead of a partner
- 57:16for the glory of God. But because of the glory of God,
- 57:21here's how powerful this to live with this motivation, whether
- 57:25you are the means or Not, by which God's goal is accomplished
- 57:30because you're all about that goal, regardless of the vessel.
- 57:34Even if it's not, you you can Rejoice.
- 57:37Yes, God is being glorified through him.
- 57:40God is being glorified through her.
- 57:41God's name is being praised in this way, even though you're not
- 57:44involved. Even though you're not the
- 57:45direct agent because you were so enthralled by the glory of God.
- 57:49Wherever it is coming from you can rejoice.
- 57:53And listen, this is a genuine struggle for genuine Disciples
- 57:57of Jesus Christ. Even, even the closest
- 58:00disciples, remember, one of the disciples came up to Jesus.
- 58:02Hey Jesus. They're trying to cast out
- 58:04demons in your name, but then with us.
- 58:06She's like, what are you talking about?
- 58:10They are for us. And so there's always that that
- 58:16temptation. To struggle with our identity in
- 58:21God. And I think the solution is
- 58:22really Living For the Glory of God.
- 58:23How do we get there though? Can live for the glory of God
- 58:25live for the glory of God? Look, how do I get there?
- 58:28I believe the answer is here. The answer is in this text.
- 58:34Some might say, well, have a big view of God, have an awesome
- 58:37view of God. Yes, that's that's in part, but
- 58:39I know many people who love the word of God at least information
- 58:43in the word of God who can soar in their explanation of the word
- 58:48of God and they are eaten up by self Glory.
- 58:53So it's that's that's just part of the solution.
- 58:55Can I tell you what? I think is the the biggest
- 58:57ingredient missing for people to be perpetually in that state of
- 59:02living for the glory of God. It's because they don't have an
- 59:06accurate view of themselves. That's why.
- 59:12How did David start? Who am I?
- 59:19That's where you need to be. That's where I need to be.
- 59:21Who am I Have a big view of God and have an honest perception of
- 59:30yourself, and I think sometimes we focus so much here.
- 59:35That we think that we're just like a little bit under Jesus.
- 59:39He's just a little bit better. Just like how we think of him.
- 59:41We think Heaven is just like a little bit better than America.
- 59:44That's why we struggling and I don't know if I want to go back.
- 59:46I don't know if I want to go to Glory, you have no idea what
- 59:48you're talking about, okay? And so, There needs to be
- 59:55something of our application of the word we say.
- 59:59Lord show me who I really am. Show me who I would be without
- 1:00:03you show me. How dependent upon I am by your
- 1:00:07microsecond Mercies in my life. Tell me realize that if you call
- 1:00:12me for the rest of my life to tie the shoes of those who serve
- 1:00:18you that even in that, I would be seen as an unworthy servant.
- 1:00:24May God help us in that. There is so much protection.
- 1:00:29So much pleasure, so much promise.
- 1:00:34In living with those three words in mind.
- 1:00:36Who Am I? Who am I Lori?
- 1:00:39Thank you. For this Bible study.
- 1:00:44Four. Being able to share with one
- 1:00:49another what we've seen in this text.
- 1:00:51And Lord tonight we take it to heart and we say, who are we,
- 1:00:56who are we to be saved by your grace?
- 1:00:59And who are we to be used for your glory?
- 1:01:02And who are we to be able to meet in this place freely to
- 1:01:04worship you who are we? What are we?
- 1:01:07We are but dust and Ash. But the very fact that we can
- 1:01:12sit, the very fact that we can move, the very fact that we can
- 1:01:14breathe. The very fact that we can we can
- 1:01:17learn is because you have allowed us to Lord tonight, we
- 1:01:23just pray that there would be revived campaign in each of Our
- 1:01:30Lives, to master the word of God.
- 1:01:36The Lord may be said of every person here whether this is
- 1:01:38their home church or not. That the word of Christ dwells
- 1:01:42in US richly. Lord protect us from a vain
- 1:01:47pursuit of the word of God and help us Lord know the full
- 1:01:51potential as we come to this word day by day.
- 1:01:55Floor with this one life that we have.
- 1:01:57May we be a spectacle to an unbelieving world and to a host
- 1:02:02of angels, who are watching the wisdom of God being unfolded
- 1:02:05through the church. We ask Lord Jesus.
- 1:02:10That you would Infusing us a humility.
- 1:02:16That you would teach us how to sit at the feet of Jesus that
- 1:02:21that would not be a duty that would be a deep Delight to know
- 1:02:25how we can just pause on everything saying, oh I just
- 1:02:27want to sit with him and speak to him and tell him how
- 1:02:32wonderful he is and tell him my needs and pour out my my mom
- 1:02:37wants to him Lord. Revive revive, that Pursuit.
- 1:02:44Lord, in this place. We sing to you because we have
- 1:02:47been receiving the word of God. Me, that overflow, as we respond
- 1:02:52and worship, Jesus name, we pray.
- 1:02:55Amen.
