- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:28Hey everybody, good morning. We are actually in the car
- 0:31already so, uh, Stacy's driving say hi.
- 0:35Hello. Yeah, she's concentrating
- 0:36because I it's driving miss Daisy, as she said, because I
- 0:40don't like to drive in California.
- 0:42I like, I don't know, I have PTSD over driving in California.
- 0:46I did it before numerous times and I just don't like it.
- 0:50So since she used to live here, it makes it so much easier when
- 0:53someone is willing to drive. But we have a very specific
- 0:56mission today and we are driving from San Diego to Orange County
- 1:01because I'm going to be on a podcast live streaming with
- 1:06Jules Wilson. So I'm super excited about that
- 1:09and Stacy's obviously great at navigating all out here.
- 1:14So thank you for that. Again, in case I haven't said it
- 1:16enough. It, it actually was one of the
- 1:17first things you, you told me when we were coming, you're
- 1:20like, you'll drive, right? She's not lying about that.
- 1:23It's like I just, yeah, I got to put it out there right away.
- 1:27So we are still in the fact that we are adjusting to.
- 1:31Well, I'm adjusting. She's already like adjusted to
- 1:34the kids being away. Her daughter's doing great,
- 1:37don't you think? Yeah, she.
- 1:39Seems happy she's. Commutative.
- 1:42She is. I mean they seem like they were
- 1:43very busy yesterday. By the time she texted me I was
- 1:46already asleep. So I saw it this morning, but it
- 1:48was good to wake up to a message.
- 1:50Yep, and I could not get in touch with my son for, you know,
- 1:54most of the day. He texted very late and then
- 1:57informed me that he was starving, that he just, you
- 2:01know, he couldn't get enough food in.
- 2:03They had, you know, food carts and it was a whole big thing.
- 2:07But of course, my obsessive like I should have prepared for this
- 2:11they, you know, teenage boy food thing they can sometimes eat a
- 2:15lot of food. So while your daughter's all
- 2:19prepared with her snacks, she. Listen, Reagan's not going to go
- 2:22hungry. She prepares, She prepares ahead
- 2:25and she just, I don't know, she doesn't like to be hungry, so
- 2:29she just packs snacks. And Lucas just every time you
- 2:32say will you want snacks? No, no, no.
- 2:35But then he runs into these problems.
- 2:36So this is a learning experience for him, but it's also a very
- 2:41big learning experience for me to be able to just let him go
- 2:44and let him have his experience and figure it out.
- 2:47I did, you know, suffer with that overnight thinking about I,
- 2:52well, how is he not getting enough food?
- 2:54Why is he not letting people know?
- 2:56Because that's how my brain works when you get into that
- 2:58mode. And my certainty girl sits next
- 3:01to anxiety on the bus. They have a party last night.
- 3:04They had quite the party talking about it.
- 3:06Yes, it was. It was an interesting evening
- 3:09for me to try to be able to control that and.
- 3:13You're trying to control something that's uncontrollable
- 3:16a. 100%, I know it, it's it's next to impossible, yeah.
- 3:20But, you know, you, you, both of us are the people that are like,
- 3:26jump in and get it fixed, Yeah. Problem solvers.
- 3:29Problem solvers to the NTH degree.
- 3:32Stacy's coaching clients know that I, my clients know that
- 3:35like I will jump in and I will solve, solve problems.
- 3:38But one of the the tricky parts of that is always when it's your
- 3:43own problem what you think. Yeah, I do.
- 3:48I really do. I just, I also feel like letting
- 3:52them grow up and solve their own problems is the hardest part as
- 3:56a mom. Like we want them, we want to
- 3:58raise them to leave the nest successfully, but yet we still
- 4:02want to fix their problems. And there's that teeter totter
- 4:05of how do you do that to prepare them as well as make sure
- 4:09they're OK in the moment. And I think that's the struggle.
- 4:13It's a constant struggle. When do you let them solve it?
- 4:15When do you let them figure it out?
- 4:17And you know, when do you need to jump in?
- 4:20So I did jump in a little bit just to make sure.
- 4:23I let the, I emailed the camp, I let them know what was going on.
- 4:27I got it handled, Yeah, through a, through a, a wonderful friend
- 4:32who stepped up and really, like, made sure everyone understood
- 4:35what was happening. But the reality is, doesn't stop
- 4:39my brain from going, OK, well, you know, I've got to switch the
- 4:43drivers and we've got all these other things happening at the
- 4:45same time. We're driving up here I call
- 4:49home because of course, when you go away, there's always
- 4:52something that happens. And they're in a massive heat
- 4:54wave. The whole East Coast is in this
- 4:56massive heat wave and it's so much so we lost 2 chickens
- 5:01because of the heat wave and had to.
- 5:03And now I'm thinking about how to solve that problem even
- 5:06though I'm not there. And you know, Stacey calls home
- 5:10to her house and there's like things happening there and she's
- 5:13got that same, the same thing happening.
- 5:17So it's, it's like managing your state in those moments does take
- 5:21effort and work. And I think, you know, the point
- 5:24that I'm trying to make with all this that we are trying to make
- 5:27with this today is that no matter who you are and what you
- 5:29do and how your life is, you're going to run into things and
- 5:33you're going to have to solve them.
- 5:34And it's not going to be with those emotions running all over
- 5:37the place. You have to bring yourself back
- 5:39into that neutral place, get centered and then solve them
- 5:43from there. Wouldn't you agree?
- 5:44Yeah, like just deep breath moment.
- 5:46Take a deep breath and figure out what you can, what you can
- 5:50do, and what you have to let go and keep them.
- 5:53Surrender to letting somebody else take care of the farm.
- 5:56It's not like I know, right? It's not like he doesn't know
- 5:59what he's doing. So I just have to let it go.
- 6:03So we are off now to finish this ride and go do the podcast and
- 6:09we will see you later. Hope you guys have a great day.
- 6:12Bye bye.
