- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome to Disgraceland, the after Party.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, everybody. This is a
- 0:31Speaker 1: little thing we'd like to call the after party. This
- 0:34Speaker 1: is the show after the show, the party after the party,
- 0:36Speaker 1: the bridge to get you from one full episode of
- 0:38Speaker 1: Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt.
- 0:41Speaker 1: On this episode, we are talking about mac Miller, the Matrix,
- 0:45Speaker 1: cocaine there and of course your calls, your texts, your dms,
- 0:49Speaker 1: me reading the phone book, in a whole lot of rosie.
- 0:52Speaker 1: All right, Discos, let's get into it. Happy, Happy, Joy Joy.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We are into another week here in Disgraceland. Mac Miller
- 1:11Speaker 1: lives in your feeds currently, as does ac DC in
- 1:14Speaker 1: fifty cent the three most recent episodes of our season eleven.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Next week, we're coming at you, guys fast from thirty
- 1:20Speaker 1: thousand feet with our episode on Lenard Skinner and see
- 1:23Speaker 1: what I did there. I hope you all dig My
- 1:24Speaker 1: conversation from last week with filmmaker Tiller Russell on the
- 1:27Speaker 1: night Stalker Richard Ramirez. We obviously had that talk because
- 1:31Speaker 1: of the relevance to our ac DC episode that we
- 1:33Speaker 1: just released. Receives a ton of great feedback on that episode.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Thank you to everyone who wrote. I want to thank
- 1:39Speaker 1: all of you who reached out and who shared your
- 1:41Speaker 1: listening experience relative to that episode. I appreciate it. Regarding
- 1:45Speaker 1: our most recent episode, though, the last episode of Disgraceland
- 1:50Speaker 1: on Mac Miller, this is one of those episodes where
- 1:53Speaker 1: in the mixed review process, it really hit me this
- 1:57Speaker 1: feeling of man, it would have sucked to have been
- 2:00Speaker 1: this guy, just a tormented dude with a lot of
- 2:04Speaker 1: obvious demons, but also a dude living out loud in
- 2:07Speaker 1: public with a lot of insecurities and having to deal
- 2:10Speaker 1: with all that and all kinds of bullshit. I don't
- 2:14Speaker 1: care who you are, how famous, or how successful you get.
- 2:18Speaker 1: These are things that nobody wants to deal with. Anyway.
- 2:21Speaker 1: My heart broke a little for Mac miller sad story.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I hope you guys dug the episode. Write me text
- 2:27Speaker 1: me six one seven nine zero six six six three
- 2:30Speaker 1: eight let me know what you thought of that episode,
- 2:32Speaker 1: or let me know what you think of any of
- 2:33Speaker 1: the episodes. You know, I'm here for you, guys. I
- 2:36Speaker 1: love having this conversation talking about Disgraced Land. Talking about
- 2:39Speaker 1: your listening experience is talking about the artists that you
- 2:42Speaker 1: love that I love, the artists that you want to
- 2:44Speaker 1: hear about, the artists that you've heard about already, that
- 2:47Speaker 1: you have unique takes on or experiences with in your past,
- 2:51Speaker 1: or that you've listened to at work, or that you're
- 2:53Speaker 1: listening to at work, any and all of that. I'm open.
- 2:56Speaker 1: I'm here to listen six one seven nine zero six
- 2:59Speaker 1: six eight. You can send me a text. But also
- 3:02Speaker 1: I love the voicemails, just like this one from the
- 3:05Speaker 1: two o seven Jake, great job.
- 3:08Speaker 3: On the podcast. I'm loving everything from that I've heard
- 3:11Speaker 3: from season eleven so far. I had to give you
- 3:14Speaker 3: a little shout out and just tell you how awesome
- 3:16Speaker 3: it was to hear the Chasmond Now at the end
- 3:18Speaker 3: of a CDC, because I think you and I feel
- 3:21Speaker 3: the same way about that band, quite possibly one of
- 3:26Speaker 3: the best modern rock bands. Looking forward to hearing more
- 3:30Speaker 3: about a CDC. Also, I really enjoyed the Johnny Paycheck episode.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I listened to that one again. I really like how
- 3:39Speaker 3: you touch on country and you do a good job.
- 3:42Speaker 3: You really do, man. And you're from the northeast, so
- 3:44Speaker 3: that's badass too, So have a good one. Thank you
- 3:47Speaker 3: for what you're doing. Nice for.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Yes, Chasbotn, non new Chasbotna. That's how we said it, actually, Chasbotn,
- 3:57Speaker 1: thank you. Thanks for that voicemail. Yeah, I received a
- 4:01Speaker 1: lot of a lot of incoming You guys are like,
- 4:03Speaker 1: what the fuck is he talking about? Shasbot No.
- 4:04Speaker 4: No.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I received a lot of stuff, a lot of incoming
- 4:08Speaker 1: dms mainly and of course his voicemail. People are like,
- 4:11Speaker 1: what's up with shasbot No? No, no, no. Those are the
- 4:14Speaker 1: last words I said at the end of the previous
- 4:16Speaker 1: episode of Disgrace Land on ac DC, and I did
- 4:20Speaker 1: it for ac DC heads most of you will know,
- 4:25Speaker 1: and even for Morcan mindy heads most of you will
- 4:28Speaker 1: know as well. And therein lies of the confusion at
- 4:31Speaker 1: the end of Highway to Hell, bon Scott's last record
- 4:37Speaker 1: with ac DC, at the end of the very last
- 4:39Speaker 1: song night Prowler, I think it's the last song or
- 4:42Speaker 1: is it the last song on side A. I can't
- 4:44Speaker 1: remember Night Prowler, which is the song which was associated
- 4:48Speaker 1: with the knight Stalker, which is in part the point
- 4:50Speaker 1: of my last episode. At the end of the recording
- 4:53Speaker 1: of that song on the ac DC album Highway to Hell,
- 4:55Speaker 1: Bond Scott, the last thing he says is shasbotn Nanu.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And I never know why as a kid, I can
- 5:01Speaker 1: only imagine because this was nineteen seventy nine and I'm
- 5:04Speaker 1: just guessing here, But Morcan Mindy with Robin Williams, Robin
- 5:06Speaker 1: Williams's breakthrough sitcom, Shasbot Nu Nanu was was something that
- 5:13Speaker 1: Mark said. Apparently I don't remember that. I was too little.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I do remember nan U Nanu. The shasbot I don't remember,
- 5:20Speaker 1: And I think it was just sort of in the air,
- 5:22Speaker 1: and bon Scott was probably in America hanging out and
- 5:25Speaker 1: familiar with this. How could you not be familiar with
- 5:28Speaker 1: Robin Williams. He was such a dynamo, huge force, and
- 5:32Speaker 1: he was probably inspired and goofing off in the in
- 5:35Speaker 1: the studio and let that fly at the end of
- 5:37Speaker 1: the vocal take and they kept it, and you know,
- 5:40Speaker 1: it's also kind of it's the perfect representation of Bond
- 5:46Speaker 1: Scott that I talked about in that ACDC episode. I
- 5:49Speaker 1: wasn't planning on talking about this here in the after party,
- 5:52Speaker 1: but now this voicemail has got me into it again.
- 5:54Speaker 1: The you know, ac DC was of course accused of
- 5:58Speaker 1: inspiring Richard Ramirez, and they did inspire Richard Ramirez. Of
- 6:02Speaker 1: course it was unintentional. And like I say in that episode,
- 6:07Speaker 1: you have to be a fucking moron to believe that ACDC,
- 6:12Speaker 1: that that group contained actual Satanists. And if you just
- 6:18Speaker 1: like looked at it from any angle, from objectively for
- 6:23Speaker 1: more than two seconds, you would see that, as demonstrated
- 6:27Speaker 1: by this shasbot nan Nanu, as well as a gazillion
- 6:30Speaker 1: other examples. The band ACDC, Bond, Scott Angs, Young Malcolm,
- 6:34Speaker 1: Young Cliff Williams, whoever their drummer was at the time.
- 6:38Speaker 1: They didn't take themselves seriously at all. It was a
- 6:42Speaker 1: fucking put on most of the time, just like all
- 6:45Speaker 1: the great rock and roll mostly is. And yeah, shasbot
- 6:50Speaker 1: nan Nanu perfectly encapsulates that that sentiment. All right, let's
- 6:56Speaker 1: go to well hold on. Actually, the last the two
- 7:01Speaker 1: oh seven mentioned Johnny Paycheck in that last voicemail, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: I want to hit on that too. That was from
- 7:05Speaker 1: season two, the Johnny Paycheck episode. We kind of low
- 7:08Speaker 1: key released season two into your feeds about a week
- 7:12Speaker 1: or so ago, trying to get this one hundred plus
- 7:16Speaker 1: archive of episodes out there. So season two with our
- 7:19Speaker 1: first two episodes on John Lennon, of course the aforementioned
- 7:24Speaker 1: Johnny Paycheck here, Spade, Coolly, Motley, Crue, who else Rick
- 7:32Speaker 1: James or was that now? Yeah, Rick James, big Lurch.
- 7:35Speaker 1: A lot lot of good stuff actually big Roach for
- 7:37Speaker 1: season one. A lot of good stuff in season two though,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and it's all available in your feeds wherever you get
- 7:41Speaker 1: your podcasts. So check that out, and we're going to
- 7:43Speaker 1: check out how from Orlando with this voicemail.
- 7:46Speaker 5: Here, Hi Jake, this is Hal calling from Orlando, Florida.
- 7:53Speaker 5: I did not realize you were such a big NASCAR fan,
- 7:56Speaker 5: but glad you got to enjoy the racer last weekend.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Speaking of which, obviously, Jimmy Johnson is one of your
- 8:03Speaker 6: buddies Team Legacy Legacy Motorsports, Legacy Motor Group.
- 8:09Speaker 5: So Eric Jones driving the number forty three Guns and
- 8:12Speaker 5: Roses car, Gregson driving the forty two Wendy's cars, looking
- 8:17Speaker 5: like Jimmy Johnson should have a new sponsor. I love Carvana,
- 8:24Speaker 5: don't get me wrong, but you.
- 8:25Speaker 6: Know what really fucking badass on the side of that
- 8:28Speaker 6: number eighty four car, Disgraceland. Make it happen, Jake, Could
- 8:34Speaker 6: you imagine Legacy, the one you are creating with your
- 8:40Speaker 6: amazing podcast, on the side of a Legacy car anyway,
- 8:49Speaker 6: just wondering what your thoughts.
- 8:50Speaker 5: On that might be. Love to see it tell.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Jimmy said, Hi, La, Yes, yes, Hal, that would be amazing.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I wonder what kind of coin it takes to sponsor
- 9:05Speaker 1: a NASCAR driver. I could find out, I suppose, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: I doubt how that I am in that income tax
- 9:09Speaker 1: bracket though, thank you for you know, aspiring to put
- 9:13Speaker 1: me there, unlike Guns and Roses, who were indeed sponsoring
- 9:17Speaker 1: one of the Legacy Motorsports Jimmy Johnson's Club, one of
- 9:20Speaker 1: his one of his one of his team's cars at
- 9:23Speaker 1: the Daytona five hundred, which I was just at. Someday, maybe, though,
- 9:26Speaker 1: how maybe there will be a disgrace Land car on
- 9:28Speaker 1: the track. A girl can dream, as they say. All right,
- 9:31Speaker 1: let's check in with Matthew from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Hey, Jay, this is Matthew from Lancaster Pennsylvania. A big
- 9:40Speaker 4: fan of everything you're doing. Love all the episodes, learning
- 9:44Speaker 4: about new artists and digging deeper into some artists that
- 9:51Speaker 4: I'm already familiar with. Really great stuff. I want to
- 9:54Speaker 4: make a suggestion that you do a Clash episode, but
- 9:59Speaker 4: specific a period of Clash when the late great Joe
- 10:03Speaker 4: Strummer decided to take a personal hiatus and disappear for
- 10:09Speaker 4: a period of time. Some people say it was a
- 10:15Speaker 4: planned ability stunt. Some people say you needed some time
- 10:20Speaker 4: away from the group. What is the truth, Jake, Why
- 10:25Speaker 4: don't you do some digging and let us all know.
- 10:28Speaker 4: I'm a huge Clash fan and I would love to
- 10:30Speaker 4: hear your take on the band and specifically this time
- 10:36Speaker 4: period in the band. Thank you so much for everything.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Can't wait for some more episodes.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Have a great day, Matthew. You are reading my mind,
- 10:46Speaker 1: my man. I covered this story. You clearly are not
- 10:50Speaker 1: aware of it, and I'm a little disappointed in you, Matthew,
- 10:52Speaker 1: But here you go, man, I covered the Joe Strummer
- 10:55Speaker 1: disappearance on our YouTube channel. Those stories that are on
- 10:59Speaker 1: YouTube are not part of the podcast feed stories that
- 11:02Speaker 1: you get, So Matthew, here's your chance. I'm telling you directly.
- 11:06Speaker 1: You can go to YouTube dot com slash at Disgraceland
- 11:10Speaker 1: Pod and you will find our Disgraceland video channel. This
- 11:15Speaker 1: Joe Strummer disappearance is one of the first ones that
- 11:18Speaker 1: we filmed. We've got these long form stories up there
- 11:22Speaker 1: that are a little bit more like the podcast, though
- 11:25Speaker 1: I don't go as deep. You know, it's a different medium.
- 11:28Speaker 1: They're probably about fifteen to twenty minutes max. Lots of
- 11:32Speaker 1: visuals to support the narrative storytelling. And then I do
- 11:36Speaker 1: these daily sixty second shorts that are all connected together
- 11:39Speaker 1: to show you guys. You know, you can go from
- 11:42Speaker 1: gosh Nia Simone to Mariah Carey to the Go Gos,
- 11:48Speaker 1: to Bruce Springsteen to whomever. In my mind, all these
- 11:53Speaker 1: rock and roll stories are completely connected. In some weird way,
- 11:57Speaker 1: this insane world of transgressive behavior connects all of these artists.
- 12:03Speaker 1: It's definitely the theme of my book, and it's definitely
- 12:06Speaker 1: the theme of our shorts, actually our entire YouTube channel.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Everything sort of connects and weaves together. So head over there, Matthew,
- 12:17Speaker 1: check out that Joe Stormer story, the one you're recommending.
- 12:19Speaker 1: It's there. It's waiting for you. YouTube dot com slash
- 12:22Speaker 1: at Disgrace lampod. Subscribe, turn on all your notifications so
- 12:26Speaker 1: that you get updated every time we release the story.
- 12:29Speaker 1: We just released a new one. It's my favorite one.
- 12:31Speaker 1: It's on the Cocaine Bear. You guys know about this
- 12:34Speaker 1: movie that's out right now, directed by Elizabeth Banks, which
- 12:36Speaker 1: I have not seen. However, the actual real story of
- 12:40Speaker 1: the Cocaine Bear. It has this crazy country music connection
- 12:45Speaker 1: to Waylon Jennings, which I'm not spoiling anything by letting
- 12:49Speaker 1: by mentioning Whyalan's name, but that he's a big part
- 12:51Speaker 1: of this actual story. The story about the bear eating
- 12:55Speaker 1: and snorting the cocaine is actually true, but there's a
- 12:59Speaker 1: whole lot of other truth to it that I'm pretty
- 13:01Speaker 1: sure the movie doesn't get to, which is fine. The
- 13:04Speaker 1: movie is its own thing. It's probably the greatest title
- 13:06Speaker 1: in the last century for films. It's insane, the Cocaine Bear.
- 13:11Speaker 1: But the actual real story and how it rubs up
- 13:14Speaker 1: against the history of country music is really fascinating, and
- 13:17Speaker 1: I get into that on our YouTube channel. Check that out.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Like I said, YouTube dot com, slash at Disgrace lampod
- 13:23Speaker 1: you can go watch that. It's available right now. All right,
- 13:25Speaker 1: let's do some texts, all right. Looking at this text
- 13:30Speaker 1: message from the six four to six excellent shows as always.
- 13:35Speaker 1: I would love for you to do a show on
- 13:36Speaker 1: Public Enemy. That's interesting, man, that's interesting. And then there's
- 13:41Speaker 1: a here's another gravestone here, image of a gravestone. This
- 13:45Speaker 1: is my guy who sends me, sends me the good,
- 13:48Speaker 1: good graves from the mobsters in New York. But this one,
- 13:54Speaker 1: I honestly don't know who this is unless they spelled Lucky,
- 13:59Speaker 1: unless say, spelled Luczy his name wrong. It's luck Casey,
- 14:05Speaker 1: l u c k e s E l u c
- 14:07Speaker 1: k e s E, Thomas, Robert and Conchetta. And it
- 14:10Speaker 1: says monster of the week. Dude, I don't know who
- 14:12Speaker 1: lu Cay is. I know Lukez, the Lukazy, the mob
- 14:16Speaker 1: boss from back in the day. But this is spelled
- 14:19Speaker 1: differently and huge letters, so fill me in. Then he
- 14:22Speaker 1: goes on to just say just this his name and
- 14:24Speaker 1: names here, Eddie Mannix, Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Freddie Prince, Senior,
- 14:28Speaker 1: Al Sharpton, Lewis Farakahn. Those are all guys who did
- 14:31Speaker 1: some stuff. Maybe you're maybe you're suggesting these as future
- 14:36Speaker 1: bad Lands episode subjects. Richard Pryor, I hear you. We
- 14:42Speaker 1: have that coming shortly, if it's not out already. I
- 14:45Speaker 1: honestly can't remember. Freddy Prince Senior. That's interesting, George Carlin,
- 14:51Speaker 1: also very interesting. Eddie Mannix. I need to bone up
- 14:54Speaker 1: and figure out who Eddie Mannix is. Al Sharpton and
- 14:58Speaker 1: Lewis Farakahn. I don't do Paul to dude, but thank
- 15:00Speaker 1: you for the suggestions, all right. From the two one
- 15:03Speaker 1: seven The musical scene of Area Code two one seven
- 15:06Speaker 1: is insane. Guitar Steve Hunter left here and later joined
- 15:09Speaker 1: Alice Cooper to record Welcome to My Nightmare. Okay, all right,
- 15:13Speaker 1: I didn't know that other legendary sounds from the two
- 15:15Speaker 1: two oh seven got their start and laid their roots
- 15:17Speaker 1: Ario Speedwagon, Dave Dan Fogelberg and mud Vain oh Man.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And why should I mention to you that berber Dan
- 15:26Speaker 1: Feeling fighting music to play if you could afford it,
- 15:29Speaker 1: because those are the number one musicians that have come
- 15:31Speaker 1: from the two one seven area code. Very well, very cheeky,
- 15:33Speaker 1: well done there, Thanks Jake for all you do with
- 15:35Speaker 1: disgrace Slam from the two one seven. All right, where
- 15:37Speaker 1: the hell is the two one seven? I don't even
- 15:39Speaker 1: know where that is? Someone let me know what part
- 15:41Speaker 1: of the country. Maybe I'll read the phone book from
- 15:42Speaker 1: the two one seven at some point. All right, let's
- 15:45Speaker 1: see here from the three one oh, you and your
- 15:47Speaker 1: team bring exposure and unreal ear brain fuckery to what
- 15:52Speaker 1: I absolutely dig. Thank you sir. All right, all right,
- 15:56Speaker 1: I like that, thank you? Three one zero absolute fuckery
- 16:00Speaker 1: into that. Uh that, Let's see, let's read another one here, Hey, Jake,
- 16:05Speaker 1: this is tom My wife. Heather turned me on to
- 16:08Speaker 1: Disgraceland a few years ago, but she had been a
- 16:11Speaker 1: fan for about a year before I finally listened. And
- 16:13Speaker 1: nobody looks better than Heather in a zombie Elvis t shirts.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Just saying. Once I did listen, though, I binge them
- 16:19Speaker 1: all in a ten hour drive. All right, man, all right, Tom,
- 16:22Speaker 1: I think my favorite is the April Fools episode. Can't
- 16:25Speaker 1: believe I fell for it so hard, awesome stuff. We
- 16:28Speaker 1: both think an episode of The Go Gos would have
- 16:29Speaker 1: a lot of fuel. Rock a roller. Well, Tom and Heather,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I just recorded like literally seconds ago, a Go Gos
- 16:37Speaker 1: short for our YouTube page. That's six one seven nine
- 16:41Speaker 1: zero six six six three eight to call with your
- 16:44Speaker 1: other recommendations. But you can check out the go Gos story.
- 16:48Speaker 1: It's a short one, but still that's over at YouTube
- 16:52Speaker 1: dot com. Slash at disgracelam pod Tom and his wife
- 16:56Speaker 1: Heather looking fine in the zombie Elvis T shirt. All right,
- 17:01Speaker 1: what else do we go? How about we do some
- 17:02Speaker 1: dms for a second. Let's do that. Let's see what
- 17:04Speaker 1: we got here? All right, Ashley Lauren writes on Instagram today,
- 17:09Speaker 1: I was heading down the Canning Highway listening to your
- 17:11Speaker 1: ACDC episode. If you didn't know, the song Highway to
- 17:14Speaker 1: Hell was about the Canning Highway and Perth, I had
- 17:17Speaker 1: no idea. Thank you and thanks for the picture. Ashley
- 17:21Speaker 1: sends the picture of her display in her car where
- 17:24Speaker 1: she is playing ACDC a satanic serial killer by Disgraceland,
- 17:30Speaker 1: and she screenshoted the map as well. Look at that.
- 17:32Speaker 1: That's awesome from Perth, all the way from Perth. Appreciate you, Perth,
- 17:37Speaker 1: Ashley Lauren. All right from Courtney Ford. Also on Instagram,
- 17:42Speaker 1: DM Jake speaking insert throw clearing here and parentheses and
- 17:46Speaker 1: a second a M. Mike Patton. Check out his project
- 17:49Speaker 1: lovage for some smooth jams to relax. We're getting your
- 17:53Speaker 1: daily cardio with the missus. Wink wink. All right, well,
- 17:57Speaker 1: thank you Courtney. Yeah, maybe I'll uh, maybe maybe I'll
- 18:02Speaker 1: fly that flag. See what happens. I once opened for
- 18:05Speaker 1: Faith No More back in the day with my band
- 18:08Speaker 1: Cast Iron Hike. We went on right before them, and
- 18:13Speaker 1: my brother and I actually they had a Faith and
- 18:15Speaker 1: More had a limousine backstage, and my brother and I
- 18:18Speaker 1: commandeered it. We just got in it, told the driver
- 18:21Speaker 1: to take us into town so that we could buy
- 18:22Speaker 1: some cigarettes, and then we brought Faith No Moore's limo back,
- 18:26Speaker 1: parked it backstage. I went on stage, got in a
- 18:29Speaker 1: fight with a DJ from WAAF and that was it.
- 18:32Speaker 1: That was my Faith No More experience. But I will
- 18:34Speaker 1: check out Lovage. I've never heard of them. I'm kind
- 18:37Speaker 1: of embarrassed that I've never heard of Mike Patten's band.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Lovage sounds awesome. Thanks for the recommendation. All right, So
- 18:45Speaker 1: let's see. I got a comment here from Vintage Vigilante
- 18:48Speaker 1: commenting saying, disgrace and pop. Back in the day, my
- 18:51Speaker 1: dad used to drink the same pub ac DC would
- 18:54Speaker 1: drink at and play pool and hang out with them
- 18:57Speaker 1: mostly Malcolm and Angus. Holy crap, this is about the
- 19:00Speaker 1: time they were just becoming known in Sydney and then
- 19:02Speaker 1: shortly after globally on the big time music scene. Damn,
- 19:07Speaker 1: vintage Vigilante. Your dad's got some stories. I bet that's amazing.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I cannot imagine hanging out with Malcolm Young, honestly, I mean, whoa,
- 19:15Speaker 1: All right, let's see uh that that? What else we go?
- 19:19Speaker 1: Let's do some Facebook messages here.
- 19:22Speaker 5: All right?
- 19:23Speaker 1: Rick Deskris hit me up on Facebook. Great podcast man,
- 19:27Speaker 1: look into the Deep Purple Jakarta murder of their road
- 19:30Speaker 1: crew in military trying to stop the plane from taking off.
- 19:33Speaker 1: This was nineteen seventy six. This year Deep Purple are
- 19:37Speaker 1: going back, going back to Jakarta, I presume the first
- 19:40Speaker 1: time since the incident. Wow, I had no idea. That's insane.
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm definitely gonna look that up. That sounds nuts, all right?
- 19:46Speaker 1: Six point seven nine zero six six six three to
- 19:49Speaker 1: eight to text message me or to send me a voicemail,
- 19:53Speaker 1: leave me a voicemail or you know where. To hit
- 19:55Speaker 1: me up on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, at Disgrace, Slam Pod,
- 19:59Speaker 1: TikTok it's all all the same. Get at me over there.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Check out the YouTube dot com slash at Disgrace lampods
- 20:05Speaker 1: stories we got going on over there as well. I
- 20:07Speaker 1: will be back in one second. All right, let's do
- 20:31Speaker 1: some recommendations. This is the recommendations part. It's still missing
- 20:34Speaker 1: a theme song. One of these days we're gonna have
- 20:36Speaker 1: a theme song for the recommendations part. This is the
- 20:39Speaker 1: recommendations part. Guys, I saw the Matrix. I know, welcome
- 20:43Speaker 1: to nineteen ninety nine, dude, but I'd never seen The
- 20:46Speaker 1: Matrix before until this past weekend, and holy fuck, what
- 20:49Speaker 1: was I doing? I don't know. I don't know what
- 20:52Speaker 1: to tell you. This is a huge blind spot in
- 20:54Speaker 1: my movie watching.
- 20:57Speaker 4: View.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I think I've had some sort of maybe unconscious against
- 21:00Speaker 1: Cano Reeves because I don't know, he seems like a
- 21:02Speaker 1: dumb fuck. But then again, he makes movies that are awesome,
- 21:05Speaker 1: like River's Edge and Bill and Ted's and I guess
- 21:08Speaker 1: that place to the dumb dumb part. But I was
- 21:11Speaker 1: never particularly compelled to watch The Matrix. My wife made
- 21:15Speaker 1: me watch it. She sat me down one of the
- 21:17Speaker 1: many reasons why my wife is awesome, and she said, hey,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you get to watch this fucking movie. What's wrong with You?
- 21:22Speaker 1: No doubt all of you know, because this is such
- 21:24Speaker 1: a huge movie and has been and it's a historical movie.
- 21:28Speaker 1: No doubt you all know how incredibly imaginative is imaginative.
- 21:33Speaker 1: It is imaginative, it is, and it also has incredible resonance,
- 21:38Speaker 1: resonance for what's going on right now in the world.
- 21:40Speaker 1: I love the JC allegory, whether intentional or not. I
- 21:43Speaker 1: thought it was cool. Highly recommend this. If you're one
- 21:46Speaker 1: of the five people on earth who hasn't yet seen
- 21:48Speaker 1: The Matrix, take the Red Pill, do yourself a favor.
- 21:51Speaker 1: I also I rewatched Gross point blank. I was hung
- 21:54Speaker 1: over a bit. On Saturday. I went to see Ashley
- 21:56Speaker 1: Flowers do her thing, Crime Junkie. Ashley's from Crime Junkie,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but she has another podcast called The Deck and she
- 22:03Speaker 1: was doing a live version of The Deck podcast here
- 22:05Speaker 1: in Boston, and we went to that, my wife and
- 22:09Speaker 1: I on Friday, and the Thursday night before we had
- 22:12Speaker 1: dinner with Ashley and her husband Eric, and it was awesome,
- 22:14Speaker 1: but we we over and bibed a bit, so by
- 22:17Speaker 1: the time Saturday came I was a little worse for
- 22:20Speaker 1: wear and I needed something familiar, so I queued up
- 22:23Speaker 1: the old Cuzack Gross point Blank and a movie I've
- 22:27Speaker 1: seen a million times. It's awesome. It still holds up
- 22:30Speaker 1: being from Boston. I love the Morphine reference every single
- 22:33Speaker 1: time from Mini Driver. Very cool. If for some reason
- 22:36Speaker 1: any of you have never seen Gross point Blank, this
- 22:39Speaker 1: is the push you need. If you're a music fan,
- 22:41Speaker 1: you'll love it. If you're a Cuzac fan, you'll love it.
- 22:43Speaker 1: If you're just a fan of I don't know, dumb
- 22:46Speaker 1: comfortable movies, and it's not dumb. It's actually very smart,
- 22:49Speaker 1: but it's not the matrix. You will love it though.
- 22:53Speaker 1: And if you've never heard of Morphine, who I just
- 22:55Speaker 1: referenced and you're wondering what the hell I'm talking about,
- 22:57Speaker 1: by all means, run to Spotify or Amazon Music or
- 22:59Speaker 1: app wherever you listen to your podcast. Hey, maybe even
- 23:01Speaker 1: go to a record store and find the Morphine album.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Cure for Pain Seminal Boston band from the nineteen nineties.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Three piece three piece a bassist, a baritone sax player,
- 23:11Speaker 1: and a drummer. Damn unique rocking, great lyrics, incredible vibe.
- 23:16Speaker 1: You will dig Morphine. I promise I'm Also, I'm on
- 23:19Speaker 1: this weird I guess we're doing what I'm listening to
- 23:22Speaker 1: right now. I'm on this weird Billy Joel kick at
- 23:24Speaker 1: the moment. On TV the other night, Sunday Night, PBS
- 23:28Speaker 1: was running the Billy Joel concert at Yankee Stadium, which
- 23:30Speaker 1: I've never seen before. I found myself strangely captivated by
- 23:33Speaker 1: this concert. Billy Joel is not one of my guys,
- 23:37Speaker 1: never has been. I like him, fine, I don't dislike him,
- 23:40Speaker 1: but I guess I get why people dislike him. I
- 23:44Speaker 1: never liked him as a kid. I kind of only
- 23:48Speaker 1: liked that album The Stranger. It's sort of a thing
- 23:50Speaker 1: that my wife and I were into, sort of as
- 23:52Speaker 1: a record, but not really as a Billy Joel artist,
- 23:54Speaker 1: though we did go see him live. But whatever, man,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I've just been on a Billy Joel kick the last
- 23:59Speaker 1: couple of days. I was working out to freaking we
- 24:01Speaker 1: didn't start the fire yesterday. So I don't know if
- 24:05Speaker 1: you needed a if you needed some sort of kick
- 24:07Speaker 1: to go listen to Billy Joel, there it is given
- 24:10Speaker 1: it to you. Also, a little confusion on the what
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'm listening to part of Side of the Fence here
- 24:18Speaker 1: that I got to clean up last after party, or
- 24:22Speaker 1: maybe it was the one before. I can't even remember.
- 24:25Speaker 1: God I who it wasn't the one before. I mentioned
- 24:26Speaker 1: the Spotify playlist that I was creating for Disgraceland for
- 24:31Speaker 1: the folks at Spotify, and when I recorded it, all
- 24:36Speaker 1: our intentions were were in order and it was supposed
- 24:40Speaker 1: to come out the day that the after party came out,
- 24:44Speaker 1: but Spotify had to hold back the playlist for whatever reason.
- 24:48Speaker 1: This isn't just like a playlist I created on my
- 24:50Speaker 1: Spotify account. I created it with the folks at Spotify.
- 24:52Speaker 1: They're promoting it. Blah blah blah. It's for It's the
- 24:54Speaker 1: official Disgraceland Spotify playlist. It is now available. That's my point.
- 24:59Speaker 1: As I babbled here. You can just search Disgraceland playlist
- 25:03Speaker 1: on Spotify you will find this. It's five hours of music.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Like I mentioned before, it takes you on this ride
- 25:11Speaker 1: through the entire series for the most part of Disgraceland,
- 25:15Speaker 1: and I'm talking everything from David Bowie to Johnny Cash
- 25:18Speaker 1: to Oasis to Asap Rocky to Mac Miller to ac
- 25:21Speaker 1: DC to Black Sabbath to Prince But not just like
- 25:24Speaker 1: me just grabbing stuff and piling them into a playlist.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I went at this very intentionally, and I really try
- 25:31Speaker 1: to string these together in some sort of Now you
- 25:34Speaker 1: know me, I'm a storyteller, So there's some sort of
- 25:36Speaker 1: narrative piece thread to this playlist, and if you listen
- 25:40Speaker 1: to it, I think you will get it, and I
- 25:42Speaker 1: think you'll enjoy it. And I spend a lot of
- 25:43Speaker 1: time on it, man, So go check it out. And
- 25:46Speaker 1: thanks to the folks at Spotify for for allowing me
- 25:49Speaker 1: to do this and for suggesting it. It was a
- 25:51Speaker 1: trip and I enjoyed it all right. I'm also watching
- 25:56Speaker 1: and you know this was recommended to me. Remember, I
- 25:59Speaker 1: was like, what's the sort of light thirty minute thing
- 26:02Speaker 1: that I needed to need to watch? At the end
- 26:03Speaker 1: of the I get a lot of great recommendations, and
- 26:05Speaker 1: I've talked about Letter Kenny here in the last few episodes,
- 26:07Speaker 1: but I was also recommended Party Down, and I'd watched
- 26:12Speaker 1: Party Down the entire series, I think, just two seasons
- 26:15Speaker 1: years ago when it was out, because now it's almost
- 26:18Speaker 1: fifteen years old. I think at this point I didn't
- 26:22Speaker 1: see it when it was released. I wasn't that early
- 26:25Speaker 1: to it. But I did see it pretty early and
- 26:27Speaker 1: I loved it. Of course, it was great. And then
- 26:30Speaker 1: just last night, you know, there's a new Party Down
- 26:32Speaker 1: that was just released. There was a reboot with everybody
- 26:34Speaker 1: except Lizzie Kaplan. I don't know why. I think she's
- 26:37Speaker 1: not in it. But anyways, I went to go watch
- 26:40Speaker 1: the reboot and I was like, huh, I'm just gonna
- 26:42Speaker 1: I'm just going to cruise these first two season. I
- 26:44Speaker 1: can give him a light cruise. I put it on
- 26:46Speaker 1: while I'm like whatever, you know, like not really paying attention.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Sucked right in my god, I forgot everything about it.
- 26:54Speaker 1: And it is so funny. It is so so so
- 26:59Speaker 1: fun and if you have not seen Party Down, do
- 27:03Speaker 1: yourself a favor go watch it. I have no idea
- 27:06Speaker 1: what the reboot's gonna be like. I can't imagine that
- 27:08Speaker 1: they get close to how good these first the first season. Anyways,
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm like three deep into the first season. I'm gonna
- 27:15Speaker 1: crush a bunch of it tonight. I'll report back next week,
- 27:18Speaker 1: having hopefully by then watched the reboot as well. But
- 27:22Speaker 1: I'm going to take a quick little break here, grab
- 27:24Speaker 1: some water, pay some bills. Back in the flash all right,
- 27:42Speaker 1: so let's recap everybody. Mac Miller. Our latest installment from
