- 0:01SPEAKER_01: Hi friends, welcome back to Kind of a Big Deal.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Kristen Belden.
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: If you've been enjoying the show, please hit the follow button.
- 0:09SPEAKER_01: It helps more awesome folks like you find us and truly means the world to me.
- 0:14SPEAKER_01: Today I sit down with Sue, someone I'm lucky enough to call a friend, and someone who introduced me to the word mindset in a way I had never considered before.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: We call her the Queen of Mindset, and she has a remarkable ability to go a layer or two or five deeper than you ever thought possible.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: But do it in a way that feels like a warm blanket instead of an interrogation.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: Sue spent over a decade at Intel before finding her way to coaching, working with Tony Robbins, and ultimately building her own practice, working with high-capacity women who are successful on paper but exhausted from performing.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Her cohort program, Radiant Year, is built for women who are ready for an identity shift, not another strategy.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: We talk about the illusion of safety that corporate life sells us, what it actually means to want more without guilt, and why the certainty you've been looking for has been you all along.
- 1:08SPEAKER_01: Can't wait for you to meet her.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: Here's Sue.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Hi, Sue.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Hello.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: It's so good to see you.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: It's so good to see you.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: I'm so happy to see that our wavelengths were the same this morning and we showed up matching, although I don't have the beautiful graphic on my shirt that you did.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yes, I can't totally see it.
- 1:30SPEAKER_02: Oh, let me show you.
- 1:31unknown: Yes.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: But even still, we're wearing matching black t-shirts.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: So will you go to Sadie Hawkins with me?
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Yes, I thought you'd never ask.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: I'm asking.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Isn't it crazy to think that that was a thing?
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: That was a thing back in the day.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: That was a thing.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Was it a thing for you to where you had to like do like a big production of asking?
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Like you had to like do a whole presentation.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: I don't ever remember asking anyone to go.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: I think I was more rebellious then.
- 2:07SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I'm not doing that.
- 2:09unknown: Yeah.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: So more rebellious then?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Is that is that I mean.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Uh oh.
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Even more than.
- 2:18SPEAKER_02: I've softened in my old age.
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Well, you're wearing hearts on your on your shirt now, too.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: So that's true.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: So, Sue, before I introduce her, she is known, well, this is part of her introduction, I suppose, for having a beautiful collection of t-shirts that are expressive or share a thought.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: I'm curious if the heart has a particular meaning for you today.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: And I wore it specifically for you today because I am all about, in this season of life, being heart-centered and supporting heart-centered women and helping them rise.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: And so I specifically wore this because I love you and also because it represents that this is what we need to tap into and activate.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: And this will lead us.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there you go.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Cleansing breath.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: You breathe right into it, and it starts to activate.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: This is this could not be a more perfect segue into your intro.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: I love that so much.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Msue is the person that single-handedly changed the way, not even changed, but introduced me to the word mindset.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: And others that have come before me have said as much the same.
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And it was not something that I had ever even considered or thought of intentionally before I joined a coaching program where she was a coach.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: We call her the queen of mindset, and she has this way of going a layer or two or three or maybe even five deeper than you ever thought possible.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: But she does it in a way, and I said this also about Gina, who I've interviewed who I've interviewed, and who's also colleagues with Sue and also friends, that they have a way of doing it in a way that doesn't feel intimidating or makes you feel, you know, uncomfortable.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: It's like in this warm blanket, like, oh, this actually feels okay.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm interested in this conversation.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'll try that out.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: And I think for Sue, so much of that is in her thoughtfulness and her presence.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And we were talking about another friend of ours, a mutual friend, and talking about her authenticity.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: And it's a word that I use for Sue as well.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: And I think we use that word a lot lately.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: It's a bit trendy, but ultimately the people that embody that are the people you want to be around, and they're the folks that you know lead in such with such integrity in every space that they're in.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: So I can't say enough about what she's done for me and to help me shift not only the way I think about the world, but how I specifically interact with it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: And she's made me cry more than once in front of hundreds of people.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: So I do love it when people cry.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Oh my favorite.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: Oh my god.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: Well, you're great at it.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: It's really impressive to witness too, though, because it's such a um, I feel like when it's a release, I think sometimes for folks too, right?
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: It's not necessarily absolutely is.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right?
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: It's not just like, oh, I feel like it's basically release flying out of your face.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: That's all it is.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: And when I see that happening, I know there's something shifting inside.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: And then I know we're on the right track.
- 5:33SPEAKER_02: And so we keep pulling on that thread because we're digging into something deeper.
- 5:37SPEAKER_02: If there's if there's water coming out of your eyes, we've hit on something really important.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: Well, that must be happening to me daily then, because I cry a lot.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 5:49unknown: Yeah.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: We always laugh, my husband and I.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: It's like we're the crying family.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: My kids will be like, are these happy tears?
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Like, what's going on here?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: So welcome, Sue.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Thank you for being here.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: And I just can't wait for folks to get to meet you.
- 6:07SPEAKER_02: Thank you for having me.
- 6:08SPEAKER_02: And what a beautiful introduction that was.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I mean every word, and I could go on and on, but that's not the point.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna keep moving.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I was trying to think of where I wanted to start with you.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And so I think what we'll start with is, you know, and part of this is my own kind of trying to dig into some of your history without, you know, when you get to know people at this current version or current season of themselves, right?
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: We don't always get a chance to talk about what has brought us to today.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: And I was looking through some of your work and, you know, over a decade at Intel.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: So being in corporate environment, moving into coaching, you've worked with Tony Robbins.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: We'll come back to that.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: But you're now, as you were talking at the beginning, coaching women, navigating power, burnout, politics, and really thinking about coming from this heart-centered space.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: And this is not a softball question, but I think it's an important one.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm curious if you're noticing a theme amongst women at the moment.
- 7:15SPEAKER_01: And I don't mean this as a blanket statement.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I recognize we're all individuals, but just patterns or themes that you're seeing about kind of what they're grappling with as they're navigating this, you know, season of their career.
- 7:27SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 7:28SPEAKER_02: I am totally seeing a theme.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: And it is that they're exhausted from performing.
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: They're tired of the hustle, they're tired of the people pleasing and what they should be, and they're tired of shrinking because they've been, they've spent years being rewarded for compliance, for performing to a certain version of themselves, and it's not necessarily them.
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: And I think as we get older, we get to the point where we say, I don't want to tolerate that anymore.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: I'm not trying to fit in.
- 8:01SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to let my light shine and lead from that heart-centeredness.
- 8:07SPEAKER_02: That's different than shoulding on yourself and trying to fit uh into a box.
- 8:12SPEAKER_02: I don't like the box.
- 8:14unknown: No.
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: You have should it on yourself as now.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: I know.
- 8:21SPEAKER_02: I did not make that up.
- 8:22SPEAKER_02: It's so good.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Are you seeing that folks are able or women are able to like, are they saying that out loud, or is it something that you're just seeing as they kind of process, right?
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Like what's happening as you navigate some of these conversations?
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: I don't think they necessarily have the words for it.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: They feel something is off and they can't necessarily put their finger on it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: They just know something doesn't feel right.
- 8:52SPEAKER_02: They wake up in the middle of the night or in the morning and they're like, is this all there is?
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Or another day, and they've lost that brightness in them.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Yes, totally.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Isn't that interesting?
- 9:07SPEAKER_01: I was just I wonder if this also correlates.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: I was sharing with somebody about a program that I was in last year, this leadership program I've told you about through the chamber here.
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: And I said it's the first time I've wanted something really badly in a really long time.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Like I can't remember the last time I was like, I want that.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Like I want that so bad.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: And I don't, and I think there's something similar in that where it's the spark or the joy or the excitement of life had kind of just been muted because it was just so many years of kind of, you know, one foot in front of the other and and keeping going.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: And are I wonder, does that feel the same to you?
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Like, are you noticing that women are when that spark starts to come back, that they're getting more excited about things again or more attractions?
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: Absolutely things.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: By the way, I remember when you were talking about that program and you did light up saying, I'm gonna do this thing.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And that's exactly it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: When you start to feel that, like you're kind of physically leaning in.
- 10:10SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm gonna do this program, or I'm gonna do this thing, you know, life is precious.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: And I like to tell my clients, don't wait for the thing.
- 10:19SPEAKER_02: Do the thing because we're not promised anything.
- 10:23SPEAKER_02: And I feel very strongly that when you are activated here in your heart center, that it doesn't lie to you.
- 10:30SPEAKER_02: This lies to me a lot.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: And sometimes it'll tell me I should do this, or who do you think you are, or maybe you're not enough.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: But when I'm coming from here and getting answers deep inside of me never leads me astray.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: And so I think that when I see women start to touch on to something, I just had a client this week.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: This is exactly what happened.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: She touched on something.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: Our sessions are totally different now.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: She's a completely different client showing up on the calls because she said, I just didn't realize this was a possibility.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: And I want everyone to be obsessed with possibility.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: You're gonna ask yourself better questions, you're gonna make different decisions when you have that obsession.
- 11:11SPEAKER_02: And that's where the light starts to come back.
- 11:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, I feel like that is also um one of my favorite quotes of yours, and I will I might mess it up so you can correct me, but it's our minds are gonna make up, our minds are gonna make shit up, so you might as well make it good shit.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: Is that is am I saying it's basically ish if we're meaning-making machines?
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: We really are.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: We make up the meaning to everything.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: So if we have that ability to make things up and make the label and define the story ourselves, let's make up good shit.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: Why would we make it something that is disempowering to us?
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Well, I wonder too, yeah.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think, okay, we're gonna go.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: We're going way off.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: I knew this was gonna happen.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: Like we have so much to talk about around what it means to be a woman at this season of life.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: I think, you know, because you and I are in such similar spaces and we've navigated, you know, similar seasons, but I wanna start first by maybe a rewinding back to early days of um, you know, and we don't have to talk necessarily specifics around your years at Intel, but I'm curious, you know, as you're moving out of corporate life, and this is really, I think, topical for women right now that are have spent, you know, decades in corporate and similar to what you were saying, are waking up going, you know what?
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure if this is it.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm grateful for what I've done and I'm excited about it, or I'm, you know, proud of what I've accomplished.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: But maybe this isn't my path for the rest of my career.
- 12:45SPEAKER_01: And so there's questions happening around do I leave?
- 12:49SPEAKER_01: Do I start my own thing?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Do I, you know, do X, Y, and Z, whatever it is.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: And I can see a lot of women that I either chat with or work with who will kind of keep coming back to that question, but aren't totally ready yet to make the jump.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: And I'm wondering, you know, I know this was a while ago, but do you remember what that moment was like when you knew that it was time for you to leave that environment?
- 13:14SPEAKER_02: Well, with Intel, they let me go.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Well, so you knew because they told you.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: They knew because they told me, and I'm a good listener.
- 13:22SPEAKER_02: And I said, huh?
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: Um, actually, they let me go.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: I was on um maternity leave after my second child, and they let me go two days after my mom's funeral.
- 13:36SPEAKER_02: And so it was, and the person delivering the message, she felt terrible, but she was tasked to do it.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I did not know.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: It was all of us, yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_02: It was all of us who had been there over 10 years, seemed to be let go.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: And it just showed me I was only a number.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: There was no consideration for the fact that I had these things going on in my personal life.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: I just had a baby, I had been there for 12 years.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: Think of all the tribal knowledge that walked right out the door when I left.
- 14:08SPEAKER_02: So I'm grateful for my time there.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: I learned so much.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: And it was a great launching pad for me to first be at home with my baby, my second baby, and my toddler, and then start thinking about how do I reinvent myself from here.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Do you feel like I it's so interesting because there's so many of us that have met a moment like that, right?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: Mine happened three years ago when the company I worked for imploded.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: And I wonder still, you know, what would the path have looked like for me had I had that not happened, right?
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: And had I just kind of kept going and not stopped to ask myself those questions.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Were you already in the process of asking yourself some of those questions around what you wanted or or what you were seeking out of a career?
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Or did that kind of happen by virtue of, you know, now being in this new space and having to really figure it out?
- 15:07SPEAKER_02: Well, it's interesting.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: At that age, I wasn't really, sorry, I was in my mid-30s.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: I was not thinking about what do I want?
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: What does my story look like?
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: I didn't have the capacity to think that way at that time.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: And so I was thinking, okay, I'm gonna have some time at home with the babies, which I did, which is my favorite part of my whole history, is being with the babies.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: And when it and it wasn't until later on that I started questioning what do I want?
- 15:35SPEAKER_02: Because I was always taught, take the safe route.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: You know, Intel's a great company, you have stock options, you have good benefits, and you should take the safe route.
- 15:44SPEAKER_02: Well, it wasn't safe now, was it?
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: Because they let me go.
- 15:48SPEAKER_02: So it's all an illusion of safety.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: And having that certainty of that paycheck at Intel went right out the door.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: I only learned a couple jobs later that the certainty I'm seeking is me.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: It's not the company.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: I'm the certainty, I'm the safety.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: But it I'm a little bit of a late bloomer, so it took me a while to understand that that's what it is.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: But I think that's so relevant.
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: It's relevant always, but even more so today than ever.
- 16:18SPEAKER_01: Where I was actually just chatting with a woman yesterday where we were talking exactly, you said it perfectly, that illusion of safety, because it's easy to tell ourselves a story of what security looks like and what that might feel like.
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: And those of us that have had that rug pulled out from under us, I think got to peek behind the curtain and go, whoa, the wizard's back.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: Like, what's going on?
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: You know, this is not as safe or secure as I might have thought.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: What questions, maybe not what questions were you asking yourself, but like what started coming up for you, you know, as you walked through some of those next careers that got you going, okay, this is what I'm starting to find that I'm drawn to.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: How did you find yourself listening to that?
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Like so at what point, maybe let's start with your Intel babies.
- 17:10SPEAKER_01: What was the next step after that?
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Like, where did you find yourself moving into?
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: I was working in a small business doing recruiting.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: See, I didn't know that either.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: Tell me more.
- 17:22SPEAKER_02: We need more lunch dates.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: But what I still didn't figure it out.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: I still didn't see it.
- 17:27SPEAKER_02: It was in the matrix, you know, I still didn't see it.
- 17:30SPEAKER_02: And then um then I ended up working for Tony Robbins.
- 17:34SPEAKER_02: And just like I felt at Intel, I thought I'm gonna be here forever.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: You know, loyalty is one of my top core values, and so I felt like I'm gonna be at Tony Robbins forever.
- 17:44SPEAKER_02: And it wasn't.
- 17:45SPEAKER_02: That wasn't the way that it worked out, and so it wasn't even until after Tony Robbins, which boy did I grow so much working there, and really started to learn who I am and what I want and go deeper on my confidence and the things that I believe in.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: It wasn't even then that I figured it out.
- 18:04SPEAKER_02: I still didn't see it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_02: It's kind of it is like the matrix.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it wasn't until I took the red pill.
- 18:11SPEAKER_02: I think it's the red pill.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: No, no, you don't want to get red pill.
- 18:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes, yes, red pill is when, yes.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the red pill was red.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Was when you can see.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: It wasn't until I finally, first of all, saw there was a red pill, and then I took the red pill, and all of a sudden I'm making cookies with the oracle and watching some kid bend a spoon.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: And I'm like, I didn't even know this side of life existed.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: And now where I am, I think about that whole thing as a metaphor, of course, and the kid bending the spoon with his mind, and I think, is there even a spoon?
- 18:45SPEAKER_02: Maybe there never even is a spoon.
- 18:48SPEAKER_02: Not in my version.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: So, like I said, it's taken me a little while to get to this point, but see things so much clearer.
- 18:56SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure a year from now I'm gonna tell you I see things even more clearer because that's how development works goes.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: That's the most irritating part of it.
- 19:04unknown: Is it's never ending.
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: I want it now.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Every time I'm like, okay, oh no shit.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: There's still so much more evolution that has to happen.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: But I think to your point, once you've I was laughing a little bit because the red pill, like the way we talk about that today is like the manosphere, right?
- 19:22SPEAKER_01: Like the that's like they call it being red pilled.
- 19:24SPEAKER_01: And so we're not talking about that, everybody.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: We're talking about a different kind of Keanu Reeves, yeah.
- 19:30SPEAKER_02: Neil, we're talking about Neil.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: But I do think that there is like once though that has happened, you can't put the genie back in the bottle.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: It's just not possible.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: Like once you have seen that and you've I don't like to say woken up because it doesn't feel right.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: Because it's not like I'm trying to say that those that haven't experienced that or seen that are asleep by any stretch.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: It's just that I there are folks I think that kind of find each other at this stage because we've all seen something and gone, okay, hold up.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: Like this ain't it.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I don't want to do it that way anymore.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: And I think to find the community of people, kind of like what you're doing with your cohort of women, it's so important to have that support because if you don't and you're trying to flail, I mean, I wonder, did you have that kind of community as you were navigating some of these questions for yourself when you were looking around and going, Yeah, see, I think that might be part of it, right?
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: I didn't find my tribe until probably my mid-40s, and now in my mid-50s, I mean, I'm spot on.
- 20:40SPEAKER_02: I know how to see a gem in the first five minutes.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: And so I know who my people are now.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: And I it's not to say that I don't talk to anyone who's not in my sphere.
- 20:53SPEAKER_02: It's just the people that are on the inside, they get me.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: And and have a disclaimer about stuff.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: I'm unapologetically me with them.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: And they get it, and they are the same with me.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: And it's it's safety.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: The safety was never in the company, the safety is in your community, which includes your family or or your spouse or partner, whatever.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: Like, once you find that community, it's like a welcoming home.
- 21:23SPEAKER_01: Totally, yes.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: And to your point, it doesn't mean that you're not still in a different kind of community with other folks, right?
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: In your ecosystem, but it's the to me, it's almost that protection of energy, or like this is the version of like what I'm gonna allow to be seen.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I one of my favorite things you've shared with me recently was I will still do this thing where I have a disclaimer around my woo-woo, where I'm like, you know, isn't it sound little woo woo?
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: And you're like, why do you do that?
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: Like you're doing that to try and make the other person feel comfortable when like you yourself feel comfortable with all of it.
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: Like Why are you doing that?
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: And I think about it all the time now.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, damn it, I still do it.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: I still do it.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: And not as much.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 22:09SPEAKER_02: But I still well, and maybe we just need to remember, make up good shit.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: So maybe we need to label it in a way that's more empowering.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: Like instead of saying, well, this might sound a little woo, maybe we say, this is energetically speaking, and then say what is what it is.
- 22:24SPEAKER_02: Because that's what it is.
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: This is quantum physics, a lot of this stuff.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: It's everything is energy.
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: You know, this pen is energy.
- 22:32SPEAKER_02: And so maybe that's the way we categorize it so that people understand.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Because woo has kind of a weird connotation.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: It really does.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: And it's not weird.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: It's literal science and physics.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: I remember when I was, I say a lot about how the last few years I've gotten to know myself again.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: And or I'm getting to know myself again.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: I imagine there's a lot of women that you work with that go through a similar process and evolution.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: And I early days I had said to my husband, like, I mean, you're, I know this is gonna sound weird.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: Like, I, but I'm like, and I know I'm like really into the woo.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm like a woo-woo gal.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Boo, are you are you just figuring this out about yourself?
- 23:23unknown: Like, what do you mean?
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: Like, what are you talking about?
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: And he said something similar where he's like, also it's not woo, it's like what you embody and what you believe, and that's woo.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Like that's just it is, and it's just so funny because I think there are just still things in the world that feel a little bit like if there isn't a clear explanation or it's not based in you know, scientific fact, or it it can make people feel a bit uncomfortable, and so I I find myself still doing that, but I like your your reframing, so I'll be thinking about that going forward.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 23:57SPEAKER_01: Good.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: You shared, so was it the from the recruiting job, and then you moved into working with Tony Robbins?
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: Remind me, was that the season when you were like, I know I want that, and I'm gonna do whatever it takes to get to that?
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Whether it's yes, say a little bit about that because I think it's so powerful and such an important part of the story.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: So I was in, I walked out of a job.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: I guess that was there was a very short job after the recruiting.
- 24:24SPEAKER_02: I walked out of that job.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: It was incredibly toxic.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: And I just had an epiphany one day.
- 24:31SPEAKER_02: I had ordered some Tony Robbins CDs off of Amazon and I was listening to them once the kids went to school, and I remember having this epiphany of, oh, I'm a coach.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: Like I just didn't realize I had that skill.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: I didn't know that's what it was called, but I had been coaching people my whole life.
- 24:51SPEAKER_02: And I decided I was gonna get into coaching school and get the certification.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: I had a dream one night that I worked for this guy, Tony Robbins, and I didn't really know much about him.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: I bought the CDs and I'd seen them in Shallow Howl, but I didn't really know that much.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: So I woke up the next morning and I remember calling my cousin and saying, I had this really weird dream.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: So I went and looked on his site.
- 25:18SPEAKER_02: Yes, he does hire coaches.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: Long story short, I applied.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: And out of 500 people that applied, 80 of us got interviews.
- 25:30SPEAKER_02: And out of the 80, 42 of us got into what he calls the coaches academy, which he lovingly refers to as a mini Navy SEALs training.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 25:40SPEAKER_02: It was not easy.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: And out of those 42, 18 of us got a job offer at the end of the three months of the academy.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: And someone said to me along the way, but what if you don't get in?
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: And I was like, ah, what like it didn't even cross my mind that I wouldn't get in.
- 25:57SPEAKER_02: I was so laser focused on what I was doing.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: I felt absolutely unstoppable.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: That's when I started to reacquaint myself with me.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: Like, oh yeah.
- 26:06SPEAKER_02: I know how to go after what I want.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: And I wanted that.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: And you did it.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: And I this is continues to be something that bops around in my mind for myself and for others that I, you know, am around in this season of life, is it kind of like this idea of manifestation, right?
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: Which is again a word that can mean something very different to so many people, and the way you interpret it and what that looks like.
- 26:38SPEAKER_01: But to me, that's what that is.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: It's you know you want something, or you have this thing, or it's almost like you don't even know it's want isn't even maybe the right word.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: It's just you feel destined for this thing, and therefore all of your energy aligns to that.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: And right, I and I'm curious though about the want part or the actually knowing what you want.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: Like, is it sometimes I wonder if it's as basic as that?
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Like, how many of us actually know what we want?
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: Because I do wonder if we really knew and we felt like we could give ourselves permission to say that out loud, what would that look like for people?
- 27:20SPEAKER_01: Because then manifestation, you don't even have to say that word.
- 27:23SPEAKER_01: It's just you are now aligning everything to that goal or whatever you want to call it.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: And so I there is a question here.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: I'm getting to it, I promise.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: But I wonder about the like knowing ourselves enough to know what it is we actually want.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: And are you getting a sense that people really know what they want at this stage?
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: Or is that part of the uncovering and the getting to know themselves again as they give themselves permission to even ask these questions in the first place?
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: It's part of the uncovering.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of women don't know.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: They're very good at checking boxes, they're very good at doing what they should be doing, they have a life on the outs outside that looks very successful, and it is.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:08SPEAKER_02: It's just that they, you know, they're high capacity, they can hold so much, right?
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: But they don't really understand what they really want in this season of their life because seasons change.
- 28:20unknown: Yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: And so what do they want now?
- 28:21SPEAKER_02: And then how do you put words around it?
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes they don't even have the words for it, they just know something feels off.
- 28:29SPEAKER_02: And I think that that knowing is that's the trick.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: When you feel it in your intuition and in your heart, and that's how I felt about Tony Robbins.
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: It was like, I'm gonna be a coach on that team.
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: I just it felt in my body, it felt like that's the path.
- 28:47SPEAKER_02: And there was so many reasons why I didn't need to do that.
- 28:54SPEAKER_02: And but you know, when you get laser focused on something, you kind of have a get the hell out of my way kind of an attitude.
- 29:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, and I put everything into it, everything, like every assignment I had to do was done a day before it was due.
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: And I mean, I was like on it, I was totally on it, and so I had no doubt in my mind of what I was gonna be able to do, and I have been able to carry that forward.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: So now when I'm trying to make a decision if I want something, I check in here.
- 29:26SPEAKER_02: Yeah, how does this feel in my body?
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: Is do I have this knowing, like, oh, this feels right?
- 29:32SPEAKER_02: Because if I'm spinning around about it, it's probably not right.
- 29:35SPEAKER_02: And I think a lot of people aren't tuned into that.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: So they don't know exactly what they want.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think, yes, I think that is very true.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: And it's something I've learned about myself, you know, along this path is how to get comfortable in that silence a little bit and enough to actually hear the answer because that's part of the scariness of it is like, oh god, what if I'm what am I gonna hear?
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: What if I don't like it?
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: You know, like, or what if that seems really audacious or scary or whatever the word is?
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Like, what if I don't want to listen to myself?
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: You know, what if I'm not ready to hear it yet?
- 30:11SPEAKER_01: I think there's something there too, around maybe it's there.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Someone said recently they work with women as well, and she said, always listen for the second whisper from what someone's sharing with you, which is they'll say, Oh, I'm doing X, Y, and Z, but I'm also kind of thinking about this other little thing, maybe.
- 30:34unknown: Yeah.
- 30:34SPEAKER_01: And she's like, that's that's the thing.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: That's the thing that they actually want to be doing, or that they're called to be doing, or would benefit from their energy, but they're so afraid to like let themselves say that out loud that it's easier to say, this is this thing that I can see a clear path for, or it makes sense, quote unquote, in the you know, real world.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: And so, but she's like, just always listen for that second piece.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: Hey, quick pause before we get back into it.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: If you're listening to conversations like this one and something keeps nudging you, like, I know I'm at some kind of turning point, I just can't quite see it clearly yet.
- 31:13SPEAKER_01: That's actually exactly what I do.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: I work with women leaders who are in the middle of something: a career shift, a business that's ready to evolve, a moment where what got you here just isn't cutting it anymore.
- 31:25SPEAKER_01: Sometimes what you need most isn't a whole program or a big engagement.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: You just need a few hours with someone who can help you see what you're too close to see yourself.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: That's the clarity session.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: It's a focused, one-on-one conversation where we dig into where you are, where you want to go, and what's actually in the way.
- 31:45SPEAKER_01: You walk away with real direction, not a list of homework, but genuine clarity on your next move.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: If that sounds like what you need right now, I'd love to talk.
- 31:54SPEAKER_01: You can find all the details at beldenstrategies.com slash clarity.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: I was like, that's so brilliant.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: And it's not even being able to see the the clear path.
- 32:06SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 32:06SPEAKER_02: I don't even think you need that.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: What's your no, that's what I'm saying.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that part there's no clear path.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: I think it's like we can focus on the thing, right, that feels like the clear path and forget about the thing that feels a little bit more nebulous, right?
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Yes, exactly.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: And I love the the whisper.
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: Yes, I think that's true.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: And I think that people are afraid to say things out loud because they're afraid of failure.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: But okay, so what is failure?
- 32:35SPEAKER_02: How what meaning are you assigning to failure?
- 32:37SPEAKER_02: I don't even like to use that word.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:40SPEAKER_02: Because I don't really believe in that.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: I believe that you can make a decision and you might have to pivot and do something different.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: But if you're having failures, you're making yourself wrong and you're saying you are at fault.
- 32:55SPEAKER_02: So if I get a flat tower tire, does that mean I'm a failure?
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: No.
- 33:00SPEAKER_02: Yes, no, I'm getting yes, you're a failure.
- 33:03SPEAKER_02: You and your tires.
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: But you see what I mean?
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: I don't want to use disempowering language that makes me wrong in what I'm doing.
- 33:12SPEAKER_02: Because we're all doing the best that we can with the knowledge that we have today.
- 33:16SPEAKER_02: And that's also why I believe that when you get activated here, you start making better decisions.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: I know I have.
- 33:23unknown: Yeah.
- 33:24SPEAKER_02: And sometimes when this comes up, I think this does not really make sense.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: And people are gonna say, What are you doing?
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: But I feel it so strongly here.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: And when you bet on yourself, I think great things happen.
- 33:40SPEAKER_01: There's uh a few things that came out of that that I'm so curious about to dig into just a little bit more.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: I'm I wonder too, specifically for women, how much of it is, yes, there's some around the like fear and the permission, but also this sense of you're meant to be grateful for what you have and this concern with saying, if I want more, does that make me sound like a privileged asshole?
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Does that make me sound like I don't already have gratitude for what I have?
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: Does that make me feel like, you know, I am now throwing the baby out with the bathwater of everything I've built to this moment?
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: And I, of course, have my own answer to this.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: But I wonder if you're also noticing that with some of the women that you work with.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Is there something to this idea that like they're not even allowed to say that because that means then that they're not grateful for what's already happening in their life?
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: I do hear that a lot, these disclaimers.
- 34:37SPEAKER_02: I know that da-da-da-da-da.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: But and that's making it an either-or.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: Either I'm grateful or I want more.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: That's wrong.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: It's a yes and.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Yes, I am grateful for all the things, and I do want more.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: And here's why I want it.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: And so that when you put yourself on the yes and, that shifts everything completely.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: And why shouldn't you want more?
- 34:59SPEAKER_02: I tell women, be selfish.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: I don't mean selfish like be a prick.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: I mean be selfish in that you fill your cup first.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: Because if I'm running around with an empty cup, how can I help anybody else?
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: How can I have the impact that I want to have if I'm running around empty?
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: And I think that happens more than we think.
- 35:17SPEAKER_02: So I tell women, please practice being selfish and see what it does to everybody else in your life and how you feel too.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: Sometimes we hear the saying, like, oh, be selfless.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: I don't want to be without a self.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: That sounds very, very empty.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: I don't want to do that.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: Isn't that funny?
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: I still think, and this is the whole point of the title of the show, right?
- 35:38SPEAKER_01: Of kind of a big deal, it's that there is the yes and, and it doesn't mean, right, that like by embracing the wins and the things that we've done that we're no longer humble or we're just like raging egotistic or egomaniacs or whatever, you know.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: But I think we live a lot in a society that tells us it's one or the other.
- 35:59SPEAKER_01: You're either a humble, grateful, you know, don't think too much about yourself, give, give, give, or you're a selfish a-hole that like really only thinks about themselves.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: There's really not a lot of characters in the world or you know, versions of this life that we get to see where the yes and is where the magic happens.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: And yes, I think the more we talk about it, the better it is, but we don't get to see it a lot.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: Or, you know, like a lot of times when we talk about people to your point, you're like, oh, they were so humble.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: And that can be gender neutral, right?
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: But it's like in humility, I think, is different than being selfless, right?
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: I it's it's just a tricky thing that I think folks have a hard time embracing what that looks like because we just don't get to see it.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I hear all the time is I'm not trying to brag, but and I say, Oh, stop, stop, stop.
- 36:53SPEAKER_02: I want you to brag.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: Again, they're not walking around saying, I'm the most amazing thing you've ever seen.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: That's being arrogant.
- 37:02SPEAKER_02: But owning your superpowers and owning your accomplishments, why shouldn't we do that?
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Because we're taught that that's not the way, right?
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: It's shh, no, we don't want to don't do that.
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: Well, that is the way.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: This is have I shared this with you?
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: I know I've shared this on the show before, and I think maybe even in a newsletter, but my 10-year-old daughter had been going through or and is still kind of in this season of like owning it, and it is magic to watch and witness because you know, when I was growing up, like not, I'm not saying from like a my you know family perspective, but just societally, it was shh, we don't we don't pran, we don't say the thing right.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: And she has been in this like mommy, I'm like a really good goalie.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: And like, mommy, do you think drawing?
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm really good.
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Or like, I'll say, like, Maz, your hair looks beautiful today.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: I know it does.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, this is amazing.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Like, oh my God, I love it.
- 38:03SPEAKER_01: And like, but I have to say, I had to seriously check myself because everything in my body wanted to say, like, shh, like, we don't do that, we don't say it out loud.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, yes, of course, I believe that to be true.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: And I love that you believe that, but like, don't don't say that too much, right?
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Like, I had to seriously, I literally remember being in the shower one day and like putting my hands over my mouth to stop myself because that was just the natural like inclination.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: And so I have trained myself to say, like, fuck yeah, like you are, you're amazing.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: Like, because the world will do its job on her at some point, right?
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: The rest of the world can get to tell her and we'll try to tell her to tamp it down.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: That's not my job, right?
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: As her mom, like, of course, I don't want to raise again.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: We're not trying to raise assholes, but like to have her.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: But she's not, so that we'll see.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Exactly, exactly.
- 38:56SPEAKER_01: But I think, right, but in your head, you have to, to your point, you gotta get out of your head into your heart and go, wait a second, what's really happening here?
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: And what do I want her to believe about herself?
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't want her to have to build up her confidence later in life.
- 39:08SPEAKER_01: I want her to like have it.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:11SPEAKER_01: You know, let's go try.
- 39:13SPEAKER_01: Yes, exactly.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: I remember when people would compliment me, I would always play it down.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Or like when before I had gray hairs, um, my hair was was black, all the way black, and it would be shiny.
- 39:26SPEAKER_02: And people would say, Oh my gosh, your hair is so shiny.
- 39:28SPEAKER_02: And I would always, I must have said this a hundred times, oh, I eat good dog food.
- 39:32SPEAKER_02: You're like joking around, I would make a joke out of it to like downplay because I dog food.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: You know how the commercials for Alpo, they're like, if you eat good dog food, your dogs have a shiny coat.
- 39:45SPEAKER_02: So I was referring to a shiny coat of a dog.
- 39:49SPEAKER_02: Anyway, the point is, maybe that's a silly example, but the point is that I would downplay it.
- 39:55SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: And even in more recent years, it took me so long to say, I'm a great coach.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: It didn't feel natural because it felt like it was maybe too much.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: But like a song that I heard, if I'm too much, go find less.
- 40:10unknown: Yes.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: I'm just absolutely I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna take up less space anymore.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:16SPEAKER_01: Well, and someone made this point recently to me, and I thought it was so beautiful.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Like, if someone's giving you a compliment, they're giving you a gift.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: And by you not receiving it, by like brushing it off, you're basically saying, like, take the gift back.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: I'm not interested in that gift, right?
- 40:30SPEAKER_01: People, when they are giving you a compliment, typically are genuinely trying to like share something with you, a piece of themselves, something that they've noticed, right?
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: They're not doing it to like make you uncomfortable, but because we're so conditioned to feel uncomfortable with that, like, and I'm I'm speaking to my own choir here, right?
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Like, I hosted a dinner, I think I shared this with you for the first season of guests um back in March.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: And everyone went around.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: I had asked everyone to watch another woman's video and come with something ready to like share that they had taken away from that sh episode or whatever.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: And it was beautiful to like witness women getting to hear from strangers, you know, something that they took of value or thought was amazing.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: And then it came, and I'm like, okay, done.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: And then they were like, whoa, whoa, whoa, we're not done.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: Like, no one said anything about you yet.
- 41:21SPEAKER_01: And I was mortified.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: And like, literally, one of my dearest, dearest friends was there, and she's like, Stop! Like, you've gotta like, you literally are trying to get around this in any way you can, like, sit and listen.
- 41:36SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, Yeah, everything in my body, it's a practice, right?
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: You have to like it be conscious of it and allow yourself to receive it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: And I'm not there, I have a long ways to go, which is hilarious that I preach this to other people.
- 41:53SPEAKER_01: But I think it's because I know it and it's so hard to do.
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: And once you see it, it gets easier to impact it.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: If you don't even see it, because it's kind of like on Christmas morning when you're a kid and you're opening a present that you're not really you don't really like and everyone's watching you.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's what it used to feel like getting a compliment, like everyone's watching you to see how to receive the compliment.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and then let's go deeper because it's not just about receiving the compliment now, is it?
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: It's about receiving love.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: How well do you receive love?
- 42:25SPEAKER_02: And I see now I wasn't doing a good job of receiving it, I was deflecting it as a protective mechanism.
- 42:32SPEAKER_02: Because if I reject me first, you can't reject me.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: Because if you do it, that'll hurt.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: But if I do it, I know what that feels like.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: So that's okay.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: So it's so much deeper than what we think.
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: Always everything is, right?
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: Which is also irritating.
- 42:47SPEAKER_01: Yes, very there was another thing that you touched on that I have also been kind of you know unraveling for myself and thinking about a lot, which I think it's Tony Robbins that talks about the sage mind.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Is that right?
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: Or is it somebody else?
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: And he maybe I heard him talk about it, but it's like he has talked about it.
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: I don't know if he invented it.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Well, so the concept, right, for folks that maybe haven't heard this, it's that knowing, right?
- 43:13SPEAKER_01: It's what you were talking about before, the like being able to sit and listen and hear ourselves and actually allow ourselves to lead from a place that is internal and heart-centered and not so much in our head, even though we're saying sage mind.
- 43:26SPEAKER_01: But I think about that sometimes from a okay, how do we learn how to decipher what is our sage mind and what is like our delusion, or like a stubbornness, I think is more of the word I'm looking for.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Like I literally wrote in my notes one time like sage mind versus stubbornness, and right, how much of it is okay, I want to move towards this thing, or I know it's time to evolve into X, Y, or Z.
- 43:57SPEAKER_01: And we get stuck in that and Like, is this making sense?
- 44:01SPEAKER_01: Like, how do we think differently or learn to decipher between hearing that voice or hearing that in our, you know, mind, body, spirit, whatever, and just being so stubborn about something because we think we want it so bad that we're like, well, no, my I know my sage mind is telling me I gotta keep going, right?
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Like, how do you learn to pull those two things apart?
- 44:26SPEAKER_02: I think it's getting back into the heart.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: I sound like a broken record, but it's really getting grounded back in the body to see what do you really feel?
- 44:35SPEAKER_02: Who are you really?
- 44:37SPEAKER_02: And there will be fear that comes up, and the fear is what makes us get stuck.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: Well, when the knowing becomes louder than the fear, now you're cooking because now you're like, I'm gonna go do the thing, even though I have the fear, and that's courage.
- 44:53SPEAKER_02: When the fear is so loud that we we can't even consider this thing over here, now we're stuck, and then we feel like crap because like we oh ooh, this looks really good, but I can't.
- 45:07SPEAKER_02: This would be too scary.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: It's almost like you're touching a desk in a room, and over on the other side of the room is a brownie sundae, which are delicious, and you're like, Oh, I want to reach over there, but I cannot let go of this desk because I have to keep my hand on something grounded, something safe and secure and certain.
- 45:26SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna try and just reach over.
- 45:28SPEAKER_02: If I don't reach, okay, I can't have it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: I gotta stay here with my hand on the desk.
- 45:32SPEAKER_02: Again, silly metaphor, but you get what I'm saying.
- 45:35SPEAKER_02: We can see it, but we're not willing to just take our hand off the desk and walk over to the Sunday.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: That's all it takes, is take your hand off the desk.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: But that can seem like a really scary move.
- 45:50SPEAKER_02: And so I would say in those situations, ask yourself, okay, what happens if I do that?
- 45:56SPEAKER_02: If I take my hand off the desk, if I do the scary thing, what happens?
- 46:00SPEAKER_02: Play through, let your brain see what it is that you're so terrified of.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 46:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:07SPEAKER_02: Because then you can try and work around it.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's that exercise, that old exercise of just keep writing and then what and then what right, like how bad can it actually get, right?
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: And you have to then force yourself to recognize that you have likely more support system around you than you even know is there, or you have levers to pull or right.
- 46:28SPEAKER_01: Like that's knowing that too, I think is half of it.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: Being able to see what is actually in your reality, not just what you've made up in your head.
- 46:37SPEAKER_02: Even going back to knowing that you are the certainty.
- 46:39SPEAKER_02: Like, well, I'll figure it out.
- 46:41SPEAKER_02: I don't have to see it all today, but I will figure it out because I know me and I am the certainty that I'm seeking, and I'll place all bets on me.
- 46:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yes.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: You were talking a little bit about, you know, your time at Intel, and then we talked through some of the rest of your career journey.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: And now here you are today building your own practice, building your own business.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: And of course, there's so much that goes into building on our own.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: But I'm curious if there's anything that you've had to kind of unlearn for yourself as you think about what it means to go from corporate.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: I know there is a moment, you know, there's years along the way here, but specifically as you're leaving what it means to be in the, you know, working world, quote unquote, to building something on your own.
- 47:26SPEAKER_02: That's a good question.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: I don't know that it's been an unlearning.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: Maybe it's additional learning on top of that.
- 47:37SPEAKER_02: I was already working on the knowing of what I wanted and the certainty is me.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: And now it's learning how do I do a business on my own?
- 47:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:49SPEAKER_02: I haven't done this, I don't know.
- 47:51SPEAKER_02: So I use Claude a lot for that to figure it out.
- 47:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, oh yeah, she's my co-founder, Claudette.
- 47:58SPEAKER_02: I love her, uh and she talks to me straight too, which is great.
- 48:04SPEAKER_02: But I also, you know, I have some different support systems and accountability in place, which helps me, but it's also just leaning in to me and and focusing on what do I want to bring to these women and why.
- 48:19SPEAKER_02: The how obviously I'm figuring out as I go.
- 48:22SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure there's things that I don't know that I don't know.
- 48:25SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 48:26SPEAKER_02: But when I stay focused on the impact that I want to make and why I want to do this, it's the get the hell out of my way attitude.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: It just I I don't have any concerns.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: It's so weird.
- 48:41SPEAKER_02: I was just explaining to a friend recently.
- 48:43SPEAKER_02: You would think, like on paper, I should be worried because I don't have like a regular paycheck coming in.
- 48:47SPEAKER_02: And you should think, you would think that maybe I would be like, oh gosh, where's my next whatever?
- 48:53SPEAKER_02: I'm so in the frequency of everything is happening exactly as it should be, and I'm living my mission and I'm having the impact that I want to have, that the fear just melts away.
- 49:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:06SPEAKER_02: And I don't know when that transition happened or what the trigger was.
- 49:11SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna guess that it's because I've been working on it for a long time, because I spent, you know, 45 years plus living in fear.
- 49:19SPEAKER_02: Turns out I was a little girl that was fearful.
- 49:22SPEAKER_02: I see it now.
- 49:23SPEAKER_02: But it's all this work that we do.
- 49:26SPEAKER_02: I don't ever want you to stop doing the work because it grows and grows and grows, and you end up coming to a higher frequency.
- 49:34SPEAKER_02: And that frequency impacts the whole world.
- 49:37SPEAKER_02: It's contagious.
- 49:38SPEAKER_02: I really believe that we start to raise the frequency of the collective.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: When we're down here in the lower frequency, where we don't believe that things are possible, or we're complaining all the time, or life is so hard, wouldn't you know?
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: That's my that's always my luck.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: You're down here, and it's almost like you're a what would be an example?
- 50:02SPEAKER_02: Let me come up with a metaphor because I love metaphors.
- 50:04SPEAKER_02: You're like a little turtle on the forest floor, and all you can see is other leaves and the bases of trees.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: But an eagle soaring can see that plus the treetops, the blue sky, the beautiful clouds, the sunset.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: And so I want everyone up here soaring because it also role models for our children, for the other people around us, that you can have more unapologetically.
- 50:31SPEAKER_02: It doesn't mean you're a prick, it means that you are holding this greater capacity for beautiful things in your life instead of living down here at a lower level.
- 50:42SPEAKER_02: And no disrespect for turtles.
- 50:43SPEAKER_02: I think they're adorable.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: They're so cute.
- 50:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: That's such a good metaphor, though.
- 50:48SPEAKER_01: And I think here, I think actually we're touching on something that feels really important, which is the language we use.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: And I think sometimes when we hear wanting more, we associate that with money, things, materialistic, you know, bigger house.
- 51:06SPEAKER_01: Like when we say more, I think we need to be really clear about what we mean when we say that, which is to your point, it's expansiveness.
- 51:13SPEAKER_01: It's maybe more for me actually looks like less things, but more capacity to be with my family.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: Or maybe that looks like less of this thing that in we in our head we're thinking means more, but it means more time to be in my community or to do the things I care about.
- 51:33SPEAKER_01: Like when we say more, I think we get a little hung up because it it that then sounds like the I'm ungrateful because I want more shit, which and that could also be true, to be very clear.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Like maybe that's your thing and that's the thing you're going for.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Love that.
- 51:47SPEAKER_01: Great, that is not a problem.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: But I think that is not necessarily the truth across the board.
- 51:52SPEAKER_01: And so figuring out what your more is, I think is also kind of part of the equation.
- 51:58SPEAKER_02: I agree.
- 51:59SPEAKER_02: And something like a bigger house could mean more community events, more family coming together to have a beautiful meal.
- 52:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, it all has a why behind it.
- 52:08SPEAKER_02: It's not just about the thing.
- 52:09SPEAKER_02: Or if someone says, I really want to boat.
- 52:11SPEAKER_02: Okay, why do you want to boat?
- 52:12SPEAKER_02: Because I get to have these memories with my family.
- 52:14SPEAKER_02: So I'm not against the things at all.
- 52:16SPEAKER_02: Totally.
- 52:17SPEAKER_02: Do you have to find out what your more is, as you said.
- 52:20SPEAKER_02: And I think that also the currency that I'm looking for is happiness.
- 52:25SPEAKER_02: The money will follow.
- 52:26SPEAKER_02: Happiness is the currency that I seek now.
- 52:30SPEAKER_02: And that starts to trickle down to everything else.
- 52:34SPEAKER_02: And everything else gets impacted by that.
- 52:38SPEAKER_02: And I don't think it's a bad thing to want more.
- 52:41SPEAKER_02: No, why can't we make that why have we made that a bad thing?
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: No, a hundred percent.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: I think it is not a bad thing at all.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: It's the in the same way when I work with women that are thinking about leaving corporate and building on their own, it's like, what is the enough?
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: Not that it's your cap, but what's the enough to make you feel like you are going to be comfortable living in your world and in your life so that you're not like in that scarcity mindset all the time, right?
- 53:10SPEAKER_01: So, like, what's the enough?
- 53:11SPEAKER_01: But then yes, let's think bigger and more, you know, right?
- 53:14SPEAKER_01: And typically women, I'm like, yo, that is so little.
- 53:19SPEAKER_01: Like, are you serious?
- 53:21SPEAKER_01: Like, no, like I mean, okay, but if that's enough, like then we're gonna like blast that out of the water and you're gonna blow your own mind.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: So, like, let's get in the practice your point of saying, no, no, no, no, like that is sure.
- 53:38SPEAKER_01: You need to be.
- 53:39SPEAKER_01: I think the reason why I come to that at times more often than not with certain folks is you also then because we're all ambitious and the women we typically work with do have high capacity, that goalpost just then always moves, right?
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: It's like, okay, well, then your enough is now.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: Well, you reached that, you didn't even think about it, you just blew past it, and now your next enough is XYZ.
- 54:00SPEAKER_01: So, like always being able to come back to the reality of I have enough to live comfortable comfortably in my own way, whatever that looks like.
- 54:08SPEAKER_01: And then we get to expand past that.
- 54:10SPEAKER_01: But yes, all the way back to your point, there's nothing wrong with saying we want more.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: And I hope that's what folks hear from all of that, because yeah, we can tell ourselves constantly um that that's not okay to say out loud.
- 54:23SPEAKER_01: And I love that people are talking about it more.
- 54:25SPEAKER_01: Rachel Rogers, right, we both love her.
- 54:27SPEAKER_01: You're you know in one of her own programs.
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I mean, her book totally changed the way I think about things like wealth and finances and all of the rest, because even again, we're not saying it's just about money, but it is a big part of it.
- 54:42SPEAKER_01: And her whole point around women in particular is we've spent there's hundreds and hundreds of years of built-up financial oppression.
- 54:51SPEAKER_01: So it's gonna take us some time, you know, and it's okay.
- 54:54SPEAKER_01: Give ourselves some grace here for sure.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: I have so many questions on my list that I did not get to ask you, and but I don't want to miss the opportunity to ask you the one question that I ask everyone.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: And I'm sure you probably know it's coming, or maybe you don't, but it is I don't know.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: Okay, good.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: So this, and it's not it's just around the word legacy.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: And I know it's a bit of a trendy word right now, but for me, I like to think of it as you know, not the thing that we're leaving behind or this big heavy, you know, endowment to our kin, but the big, beautiful, light thing that we're building every day and how we're you know thinking about our impact and what we're excited about and the work you want to do, how you want to show up in the world.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: So I like to ask everyone, Sue, what does building a legacy mean to you?
- 55:48SPEAKER_02: Showing up with love.
- 55:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, at my funeral, I hope that's what people remember.
- 55:53SPEAKER_02: I hope that they say she always showed up in a loving way, heart-centered, and yes, I want to leave some kick-ass thing for my kin too.
- 56:02SPEAKER_02: I want to do that as well.
- 56:04SPEAKER_02: But it's really about what do they what do they remember around how did I make people feel?
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 56:13SPEAKER_02: It's so it's not so much a thing I can point to, it's more of a feeling and an impact.
- 56:22SPEAKER_02: And how did my time with them impact them?
- 56:28SPEAKER_02: And on my end of it, I want to keep having a great time and I want to expand and I want to learn and I want to do the things that bring me joy, and I want to spend time with my family and all of those things too.
- 56:38SPEAKER_02: I want it to be win-win on both sides.
- 56:41SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: Yes, I love it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_01: And that's so apparent in every single moment that I get to spend with you.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: So it is the joy and the excitement is contagious.
- 56:52SPEAKER_01: And I think to your point, when we're living yes, in service and excitement for others, but also in service of ourselves, that then gets to spread joy differently because you are excited and you are stoked to be here and you're like thrilled to be learning.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: And so people then get to benefit from that, right?
- 57:12SPEAKER_01: And so I know that that's how I feel literally every single time I get to see you.
- 57:17SPEAKER_01: So um I am thrilled that you came and hung out with me today.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Thank you so so much.
- 57:23SPEAKER_01: I know you've been.
- 57:24SPEAKER_01: It's been so fun.
- 57:25SPEAKER_01: Let's we could talk for another two hours.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, wait.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: We we did not say you do have a cohort that you are kicking off very soon.
- 57:34SPEAKER_01: Tell us when.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: And can you give us two minutes about it so folks kind of know what to be?
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: So September 8th, I'm kicking off my next cohort of my women's mastermind called Radiant Year.
- 57:46SPEAKER_02: And this is for those high capacity women who are successful on paper, but they're exhausted from performing.
- 57:53SPEAKER_02: And it's for the women who they're ready for an identity shift, not another strategy, not another productivity system, not another book.
- 58:03SPEAKER_02: They have all the knowledge in the world.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: This is more about creating a transformation that impacts their identity.
- 58:10SPEAKER_02: So the program is about giving her clarity around what she wants and that new identity that fits who she's becoming.
- 58:18SPEAKER_02: There's that becoming, the coming home, the standards that she's setting herself instead of inheriting them from others, and then of course being in the room of women who are holding her accountable, who are in the same stage that she's in.
- 58:32SPEAKER_02: So that's kicking off September 8th.
- 58:35SPEAKER_02: And I'm really excited because it has been really juicy work.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: I can only imagine how incredible and transformative it must be for the women that are joining you.
- 58:48SPEAKER_01: And to I think your point about the community aspect of it is so important because as we were touching on earlier, when you don't have others that are walking through a similar season, it can feel really lonely.
- 59:02SPEAKER_01: And you can start to get in your head around like, am I crazy?
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: Am I doing this right?
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: Like, what's going on?
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: So to know that you have a trusted cohort of others around you that are facing something similar or asking themselves the same questions and having you as their guide, um, I can't even imagine how amazing that must be.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: So we'll make sure that oh, and also fun.
- 59:23SPEAKER_01: Yes, that is really important because all yes, the transformation is important, but like working with Sue is also a hoot, as you might imagine.
- 59:32SPEAKER_01: And you will leave laughing and smiling at every turn and maybe crying, but in a good way.
- 59:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, in a good way, always.
- 59:41SPEAKER_01: I love you.
- 59:42SPEAKER_01: Thank you for sharing, and we'll put all the info in there for folks too.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: It has been so much fun.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: I love you too, and thank you for having me.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: All right, my friend.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: See you soon.
