- 0:27a hacks for autism and school refusal.
- 0:30We've all been there buckle up. Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:40ask me world. My name is Don.

- 0:53shout-out to today's video sponsor, which is brilliant, and
- 0:55I really super awesome. They got in touch with me and
- 0:58said that, they have this super awesome thing for ADHD.
- 1:00And I was like, I'm all ears, right?
- 1:02So anyway, yeah, they sent me a bunch.
- 1:05These things it's a non-prescription homeopathic
- 1:07medicine that you can take to like lot of stress and kind of
- 1:10like help with ADHD symptoms and things like that.
- 1:13This is why I wanted to try it. So my idea is that I'm going to
- 1:16take these awesome little. I'll show you exactly what they
- 1:20look like. These little kind of like discs.
- 1:22They just dissolve into your tongue.
- 1:23Right? And I'll be taking these.
- 1:24I'd like a week's worth already or more than that.
- 1:26And these are really, really cool.
- 1:27So I'm going to take these rot four to five weeks, to see if
- 1:30they can help reduce my kind of anxiety, my ADHD symptoms and
- 1:34things like that. That brilliant is really, really
- 1:36cool. They all seem really nice and
- 1:38they do a version for adults and children.
- 1:40So this one is obviously for adults because I'm taking it,
- 1:43but it's really, really, really cool.
- 1:45So this is, again like a non-prescription, homeopathic
- 1:49medicine. And, you know, there's no real
- 1:51harmful side effects and things really, really interesting.
- 1:53So I was like, hey, let's give it a shot and see how it works.
- 1:55So join me on my journey. I'll be checking in with you
- 1:58guys every like week or so. It's like, you know how I'm
- 2:00getting on with this and see what the results are.
- 2:02And if it can benefit you in your life, in the meantime, if
- 2:04you want to check out. Brilliant then do so with the
- 2:06link in the description down below.
- 2:08Super awesome. Alright, on with a video.
- 2:10Okay guys, what is going on? I am really, really excited this
- 2:13video because I've seen a lot of parents and kind of like
- 2:16caregivers who take the kids to school, and the kids are on the,
- 2:19you know, on the autism spectrum and I have a school phobia,
- 2:22right? I had to school phobia when I
- 2:23was a kid, it was really difficult for me to go to school
- 2:26and stay in school. And so I was I was just like,
- 2:30completely agitated, irritated triggered the whole time and
- 2:34this Didn't work. Well, my mental health wasn't
- 2:37good. And for my condition, if I think
- 2:38Asperger syndrome and ADHD, it just didn't go.
- 2:40Well. Okay, so I'm sure we five hacks
- 2:42and this is only life-changing for people as well.
- 2:44So hopefully this will help you to no end and yeah, leave me a
- 2:48comment and a thumbs up on this video.
- 2:50If you think this video is awesome.
- 2:51Okay cool. So the first one is
- 2:53understanding the triggers. First thing to do is create a
- 2:55list of all the scary. This is non-scary tasks that
- 2:58take place in the school. So ask the child say hey, can
- 3:01you help me make, can you help me make a little?
- 3:05List of all of the, you know, the scary things versus the non
- 3:09scary things that you do in school, could be walking down
- 3:10the hallway, going to class sitting next to other kids,
- 3:13doing certain activities, PE Whatever.
- 3:15By doing this, you're understanding what their
- 3:17triggers actually are. The second thing is to color
- 3:21subject on a chart where you write all the subjects that
- 3:24they're doing in school are all the things that they do in
- 3:26school and then you get them to color in like green for the ones
- 3:29they enjoy and then read for the ones that are bad, which is
- 3:32basically meaning that what they experience when they're In that
- 3:35lesson. And maybe if you pinpoint, why
- 3:37there's dozens of bad, not just because the fact that some
- 3:39people just don't like certain lessons.
- 3:40It could be more of a detailed fact that maybe there's a
- 3:42certain kind of issue of that room, you know, can be sensory.
- 3:46That is the best way to do it. Another way is to create a worry
- 3:50book now, writing down all of the issues in one book and you
- 3:54can also try and personalize the book by like, you know, putting
- 3:56stickers and stuff on it and making it kind of like there's,
- 3:58you know, if they're really into Pokemon and Minecraft will get
- 4:00Pokemon Minecraft stickers. Stick them all over the book and
- 4:02then they'll kind of want to write in that book and write,
- 4:04although Down and this does a few things.
- 4:06The first thing is that it gets rid of all the worries from
- 4:09their heads. So they stop kind of thinking
- 4:10about and getting anxious about things in the head, but also
- 4:12allows you to detailed go through the things that they are
- 4:16struggling with in the school. Super, super dope.
- 4:20Okay, the next thing I want to talk about the next hack I'm
- 4:22going to talk about is creating strategies for home, use to come
- 4:25anxiety and relaxation. Right?
- 4:27So we need to do is you know, use things that help relax, like
- 4:31go for a walk or playing in the park or riding your bike.
- 4:34So Thing that click create more of a an exercise thing which
- 4:38helps move oxygen around the body and how to create cam, but
- 4:41cam at home because what you don't want is, I'm coming home
- 4:44and having that stress. They had in school at home
- 4:46because then it makes a home run and come to a place and there's
- 4:49no relaxation at all and all other time.
- 4:51When we relax, we get chance to reset step back and just kind of
- 4:55really assess the situation and come down and start again.
- 4:58The next thing I would say is, maybe why not build Legos or
- 5:02play Minecraft, you know, doing something that really helps you.
- 5:05Relax, but also gives you focus to key in the fact that you are
- 5:08relaxing. But you're also focusing your
- 5:09energy. These are really good.
- 5:11Another one is to schedule quiet time into your day.
- 5:15So they can go in their room where they know they're safe.
- 5:19Then they know that they are calm Collective and then got
- 5:21their room and chill and play and that is their space.
- 5:24But you need to kind of like, you know, if you think about it,
- 5:26bedrooms are one of the places where we kind of spent the least
- 5:29amount of time a week because, you know, you've got a bedroom
- 5:31when you go to try and sleep, but when you're you know,
- 5:33suffering anxiety. You having issues with going to
- 5:35school. One of the things you really
- 5:37want is somewhere at home, which is just your Haven, your safe
- 5:41haven, where you can just go and chill out and just have that you
- 5:44time, right? So make sure that they do
- 5:46schedule in time to go in their room to chill out because it
- 5:50could even be like a teepee tent in the living room with like
- 5:52some cushions in it. Real whatever works do it, but
- 5:55schedule it in don't forget about this is important.
- 5:57Okay, so the next hack is to communicate with the school
- 6:00directly so you could contact the senko to special educational
- 6:04needs. Coordinator at the school and
- 6:07make them aware of all the issues that you've collected
- 6:09from hack. Number one.
- 6:10We took about the issues. Now.
- 6:12You also need to find out what has been done so far to
- 6:15accommodate the needs of the child within the school because
- 6:18then you'll have like a detailed outline of what has currently
- 6:21been done? Where the issues lie and where
- 6:24you should go forward from. This is how you create a plan of
- 6:26action will consult with the direct line of Staff, who deals
- 6:30with your child on a day-to-day basis and discuss what
- 6:32strategies they've used. Because you never know, because
- 6:34that Essence doing with your child in an environment that
- 6:36you're not familiar with or have never been in with your child.
- 6:40This person may have strategies that they've developed with your
- 6:43kid that you could use somewhere else.
- 6:45But also that you could make a note of so that the teachers do
- 6:47change, then you can, you know, replace the the personal
- 6:51learning plan with one, you now have with the person who work
- 6:54with them on the strategies, if you get me and the other one is
- 6:57to literally simply ask your child, what support, they feel,
- 7:01they need when in school by asking the child directly, they
- 7:04met Be able to, if they are verbal, be able to tell you
- 7:07exactly what the issues are, that they're having.
- 7:09And maybe also say, like, hey, look, I have an issue with the
- 7:11whole. I have an issue with the
- 7:13assembly. I have an issue is lining up and
- 7:15going into college could be anything, right, but they will
- 7:17tell you that it directly, if they are able to order to draw
- 7:20it out. And this is a really good one.
- 7:21A lot of people just don't seem to want to ask children because
- 7:24it may just look their mind because they're so busy worrying
- 7:26about the situation at hand. Okay.
- 7:28So next hack is adjustment. Now, you could look at having a
- 7:32quiet time during the school day in a quiet.
- 7:34Room. So, ask the school.
- 7:36If they can accommodate a piece of the classroom or a room off
- 7:40to the side of a corridor where your child could have just a few
- 7:43minutes of just complete calm and relaxation.
- 7:46So they can reset themselves. Like I was saying before and the
- 7:48other hack just to kind of ground them a little bit.
- 7:50So they can go breathe a little bit and everything is go, go go
- 7:53all the time. Then they can come around, get
- 7:56back into the classes and you know, see if it makes any
- 7:58difference. I think it's worth a try.
- 7:59That's not is use ear Defenders outside in the playground.
- 8:02A lot of kids get triggered when I was in school.
- 8:04Was triggered so much by the playground that I had to stay
- 8:07indoors and play on the computers, to get me to a
- 8:09composition. So I can go back into the class
- 8:10and then learn. But, you know, I, I didn't have
- 8:13any ID offenders under Patterson.
- 8:15I'll have to fix it back then. So now they do, I would have
- 8:18wanted offenders. So check that one out.
- 8:19Another tip is later, start and early finish, time to avoid busy
- 8:23school traffic. Now, School traffic is crazy.
- 8:25There's parents, there's kids, there's traffic.
- 8:27There's dogs are sometimes there's bicycles.
- 8:30There's scooters everything you can possibly think of dropping
- 8:32their kids off and it's hectic. Eric.
- 8:35So if you can try and create a later start time and a bit of an
- 8:38early finish time, you'll avoid those places of craziness.
- 8:42Like I did this when I was a kid actually really worked.
- 8:44Well for me, the other one is using reward systems to help
- 8:48meet our guests. So I have a link for this.
- 8:50If you check out the link down below.
- 8:52I'll leave a link for my chart. I actually have a link where you
- 8:55can download charts, which are like work for tasks chart where
- 8:59you have like three things that you work for and once you've
- 9:01completed all three of them you can then get the The thing you
- 9:05want. It's a good way of creating, you
- 9:07know, task success in a more structural visual format.
- 9:11And then the other thing is older, students may like to use
- 9:14apps for dealing with like, anxiety and stuff.
- 9:16So making sure that school are aware that, you know, your
- 9:19child, if they're a little bit older and they're using like a
- 9:21tablet or a smartphone, they may want to use an app when they're
- 9:25feeling stressed and that's okay.
- 9:26Because I know what like phones and stuff are a bit of a No-No
- 9:28in schools. But if you're using it for your
- 9:30mental health and your well-being, then why not, you
- 9:33know, okay. So the last one is a no-brainer.
- 9:34Bring it, but I thought I'd add this in here.
- 9:36Now. This is number five.
- 9:37This hack is homeschooling. It's, maybe a choice for some
- 9:40people, depending on your level of comfort, but a lot of the
- 9:43time, it's a very good one, because a lot of the triggers
- 9:46that are happening in school. I haven't, because it's in the
- 9:49school environment. It's not at home in the
- 9:51environment where the person feels their most comfortable,
- 9:55you know, so if you're trying, you know, if we think about
- 9:57this, if your result is to get your kid to feel as comfortable
- 9:59and learn as best as possible, while the best environment is
- 10:02going to be at home with their mum, or dad or whoever Abel's if
- 10:05so to stay at home and teach them, I know this is not
- 10:07possible for everybody. But I feel like the covid thing
- 10:10has taught us a lot about homeschooling and how we could
- 10:13potentially work from home and teach our kids from home.
- 10:15So if this is something that you could do and as a stretch and it
- 10:19would take away the stress from the school in the strain from
- 10:21the school, you could always implement this and homeschooling
- 10:24is a really good idea if you're thinking.
- 10:26Hmm, maybe I could try some my kids.
- 10:28So always remember guys if you're homeschooling, but then
- 10:29you want to reintegrate your child back into mainstream
- 10:32school, you know, early a day. Always remember that you need a
- 10:36period of reintegration. So, prepare well for this and
- 10:39don't forget because a lot of people do forget and it doesn't
- 10:42work out really well. Guys.
- 10:43If you like this video, give it thumbs up, share it on Facebook,
- 10:45Twitter, and Instagram. If you think someone could get
- 10:47value from it, and I'll see you next time guys.
- 10:49Peace.
