- 1:18Speaker 2: Thursday edition of the show, one step closer to the weekend.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes says in a word, wet.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Heavy rain possible at times today, kind of off and on.
- 1:27Speaker 2: You could get a lot of rain in a short
- 1:28Speaker 2: amount of time. You get underneath one of those downpours.
- 1:30Speaker 2: I experienced that myself while driving in this morning. There
- 1:33Speaker 2: was actually some flooding being reported in areas of Mason
- 1:36Speaker 2: and Jackson counties. Temps are going to be below the mid-80s,
- 1:39Speaker 2: but it'll feel warmer than that with all the humidity.
- 1:41Speaker 2: The rain continues tonight, lows in the upper 60s. Tomorrow,
- 1:44Speaker 2: some rain around in the morning. Should dry out, feel
- 1:46Speaker 2: a tad cooler later in the day. Should be in
- 1:48Speaker 2: good shape for high school football tomorrow night. Highs tomorrow
- 1:51Speaker 2: below 80. So many activities, of course, going on in
- 1:53Speaker 2: the area this weekend. And unfortunately, at least we have
- 1:56Speaker 2: a chance for rain to talk about Saturday into early Sunday.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Mid-80s Saturday and Sunday. You can download the Metro News
- 2:02Speaker 2: television app for Brian and his team of weather professionals
- 2:05Speaker 2: and follow along on social media as well. Coming up,
- 2:07Speaker 2: told you yesterday about the Putnam County homecoming, which is
- 2:10Speaker 2: happening in Winfield. It actually gets going tomorrow night with
- 2:13Speaker 2: a car show and a cruise in. Jim Winter is
- 2:15Speaker 2: going to join us to talk about that. Plus, if
- 2:16Speaker 2: you like food like I do, this show today is
- 2:19Speaker 2: where you need to be. Morgan Morrison is going to
- 2:22Speaker 2: join me in a little bit to talk pickles. at Picklepalooza,
- 2:25Speaker 2: which is happening Saturday at Slack Plaza. And speaking of food,
- 2:29Speaker 2: welcome in our good friend now, Aaron Wood, to talk
- 2:31Speaker 2: about ribs and all the things that go along with it.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Rib Baskets underway today at Shawnee Park in Dunbar. Aaron,
- 2:36Speaker 2: good morning. Welcome to the show. Good morning. Thank you
- 2:38Speaker 2: for having me. Thank you for being here. Kicks off
- 2:40Speaker 2: today at four. What is it that makes this event, Aaron,
- 2:44Speaker 2: so good other than just the ribs, which we'll get to?
- 2:47Speaker 5: Well, I think it's one of the main family-friendly events
- 2:51Speaker 5: that we have in the You know, it has the
- 2:56Speaker 5: great food. It has live entertainment that's family-friendly. And we
- 3:00Speaker 5: have the huge Polka Valley Bank Kids Zone for the kids.
- 3:04Speaker 5: So it's just a great opportunity for families to go out,
- 3:08Speaker 5: enjoy good food, enjoy some family wholesome time together, and
- 3:12Speaker 5: listen to some music and have a good time.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And if you're listening right now and you're thinking, well,
- 3:17Speaker 2: ribs aren't really my thing. Okay, number one, you're probably communist. Okay,
- 3:20Speaker 2: that's number one. But number two, shrimp. Fish, tacos, chicken, fajitas,
- 3:26Speaker 2: Italian sausage, steak wraps, bloomin' onions, milkshakes, funnel cakes, ice
- 3:31Speaker 2: cream donuts. You pretty much got it all here. We
- 3:33Speaker 2: got it all. We got it all.
- 3:35Speaker 5: I'm really excited about the shrimp and seafood vendor we have.
- 3:39Speaker 5: She actually has been a runner-up for a James Beard Award.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 3:44Speaker 5: She has been on the food show several times. So,
- 3:48Speaker 5: you know, she has some great seafood to offer, and
- 3:51Speaker 5: she's going to be located just inside the front gate
- 3:52Speaker 5: to the left. And that doesn't even count the award-winning
- 3:56Speaker 5: rib vendors we have from all over the United States.
- 3:58Speaker 5: We got Carolina Rib King, Cowboys from Texas.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Those are two of the, I mean, you always have
- 4:03Speaker 2: good ones, but traditionally, those are two of the more
- 4:06Speaker 2: popular ones, those two you just mentioned. Because they're there
- 4:08Speaker 2: pretty much every.
- 4:09Speaker 6: Year, right?
- 4:09Speaker 2: Yeah, they're there every year.
- 4:11Speaker 5: So, you know, it's exciting to bring in some world-class
- 4:14Speaker 5: food to our community. And, you know, of course, the entertainment.
- 4:20Speaker 5: Thursday night, we got Del Noro. Friday night, we've got
- 4:22Speaker 5: Joss Pantry. And on Saturday, we have the wonderful sounds
- 4:26Speaker 5: of Fleetwood Mac and Heart.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it's called Fleetwood's Heart, I think is what it's called.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Fleetwood's Heart. And it's a tribute band to both Fleetwood
- 4:35Speaker 2: Mac and Heart and two groups that, I mean, just
- 4:38Speaker 2: had so many hits over there, so many songs that
- 4:40Speaker 2: people are going to recognize. You're not going to go
- 4:42Speaker 2: and say, well, I don't know what this song is.
- 4:44Speaker 2: You're going to know what that song is, no matter
- 4:45Speaker 2: pretty much what your age is. Right, right, exactly. And
- 4:48Speaker 2: Del Nora, of course, she's a West Virginia native. She
- 4:51Speaker 2: just won I think Americana Artist of the Year or
- 4:53Speaker 2: something like that. She's got a number one song on
- 4:56Speaker 2: the gospel charts as well. She does a little bit
- 4:58Speaker 2: of everything. And she's actually a little programming. She's actually
- 5:00Speaker 2: going to join us in studio on Metro News Midday
- 5:02Speaker 2: today ahead of her appearance tonight. So she's going to
- 5:05Speaker 2: come in here first. Then she's going to go over
- 5:06Speaker 2: and hang out with you. She's fantastic talent.
- 5:08Speaker 7: She really, really is.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But, you know, again, and Josh Pantry. I mean, what
- 5:12Speaker 2: do you need to say about Josh Pantry? I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 2: the guy has got such an incredible following, not only
- 5:16Speaker 2: here in the Kanawha Valley, but really in this part
- 5:18Speaker 2: of the country. I mean, he's fantastic.
- 5:20Speaker 8: Yep.
- 5:21Speaker 6: Yep.
- 5:21Speaker 5: And then Sunday, you know, we got the big time
- 5:22Speaker 5: wrestling at two o'clock, you know, we're going to do
- 5:24Speaker 5: a cruising car show, um, something we haven't done before,
- 5:28Speaker 5: but who doesn't want to cruise in and have some ribs?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:31Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 5:32Speaker 2: And of course, all of the sides that go along
- 5:34Speaker 2: with it as well, when it comes to the, I mean,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'm a rib guy, uh, but the, all the sides,
- 5:38Speaker 2: I mean, are so good. They go along with all
- 5:41Speaker 2: the vendors. They always have just killer sides there. Oh yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 5: I think one of my favorite sides is the Mac
- 5:46Speaker 5: and cheese mixed in with the barbecue.
- 5:47Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 5:48Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 5:48Speaker 2: I've, Actually, I've had that now that I mentioned it.
- 5:51Speaker 10: Pigback.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Pigback, yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And they've been here before because I think I've had
- 5:55Speaker 2: that at least from one of the vendors. It's really
- 5:57Speaker 2: good stuff. Now, parking is free at Shawnee, but talk
- 6:01Speaker 2: about the admission price. How does that work?
- 6:03Speaker 5: So admission is $ 8 for adults and $ 4 for kids.
- 6:06Speaker 5: But once you enter, the kids don't have to pay
- 6:08Speaker 5: for the Fun Zone. The Fun Zone was, again, sponsored
- 6:10Speaker 5: by Polka Valley Banks. Thank you to our friends at
- 6:12Speaker 5: Polka Valley Bank. So there's no additional charge for the
- 6:14Speaker 5: Fun Zone. So once you get inside, you get to
- 6:17Speaker 5: enjoy the entertainment. You get the fun zone. You get
- 6:19Speaker 5: the food. It's a great time.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And, you know, that's really when you think about all
- 6:24Speaker 2: of the choices that you have, Aaron, as far as
- 6:26Speaker 2: the different rib vendors go and the other food vendors
- 6:29Speaker 2: as well. That's not a terribly high price, to be
- 6:32Speaker 2: honest with.
- 6:32Speaker 5: You, in my opinion. I don't think it is. I
- 6:34Speaker 5: think it's pretty fair. You know, we put up a
- 6:36Speaker 5: huge eating tent for everybody to sit down and eat.
- 6:39Speaker 5: I don't think there's another festival in the area that
- 6:43Speaker 5: actually does an eating tent for everyone that comes. And
- 6:46Speaker 5: that's a big tent. It's usually about 40 by 100 feet.
- 6:50Speaker 5: And it allows people to get out of the sun.
- 6:52Speaker 5: And actually, with the forecasted rain that we have in
- 6:55Speaker 5: the forecast, we actually put the stage underneath the tent
- 6:57Speaker 5: this year. So if you come and eat, you're going
- 7:00Speaker 5: to be under a tent. The stage is going to
- 7:02Speaker 5: be under the tent. So you can still enjoy the
- 7:04Speaker 5: sights and sounds of Ribfest if the weather is a
- 7:06Speaker 5: little dreary.
- 7:07Speaker 2: And we had a text. Somebody said, with the rain
- 7:08Speaker 2: and possible storms, Ribfest is going to be happening. You'll
- 7:11Speaker 2: be able to cook outside in this. Well, all the
- 7:13Speaker 2: folks that are cooking are actually inside, so to speak, right?
- 7:16Speaker 2: I mean, they're covered, you know, for the most part. Yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 2: they're covered.
- 7:19Speaker 5: The ribs have already started to smoke. You know, they
- 7:22Speaker 5: started smoking yesterday at 8 a.m. So the food should
- 7:25Speaker 5: be ready today at 4 for everybody to start eating.
- 7:28Speaker 5: If you want to stop by for lunch, you're more
- 7:29Speaker 5: than welcome.
- 7:30Speaker 2: The rib vendors will be there.
- 7:31Speaker 5: You can stop by for lunch from 11 to 2
- 7:32Speaker 5: as well on Thursday and Friday in case you want
- 7:35Speaker 5: some good ribs for lunch and you can't come in
- 7:37Speaker 5: the evening. During lunch, we do not charge an entry fee.
- 7:40Speaker 5: If you want to just come in and eat, you can.
- 7:42Speaker 5: No charge at all to come in at lunchtime and.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Grab some ribs. That's pretty cool. And you're going to
- 7:46Speaker 2: start that today at 11, right? Today and tomorrow.
- 7:49Speaker 9: All right.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So if you're like me, the moment you walk through
- 7:52Speaker 2: the front door of your office, you'll probably think, what
- 7:54Speaker 2: am I going to have for lunch today? I mean,
- 7:56Speaker 2: all due respect to a lot of restaurants in the area,
- 7:57Speaker 2: there's a lot of good ones, a lot of fast
- 7:59Speaker 2: food too. Do something a little bit different today. Go
- 8:01Speaker 2: out for ribs. And again, you do not charge for
- 8:03Speaker 2: admission between 11 and 2 on Thursday, which is today,
- 8:06Speaker 2: and Friday. So people can You can load up the car,
- 8:08Speaker 2: and they can come down there. They can get some
- 8:10Speaker 2: food and either eat there or take it back to
- 8:11Speaker 2: the office. That's correct.
- 8:13Speaker 5: Even with a little bit of rain today, you know,
- 8:14Speaker 5: we have the huge eating tent out there, so you
- 8:16Speaker 5: can stay dry and have some good ribs.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Now, are you doing any contests this year? Because I
- 8:20Speaker 2: know in the past, some of your festivals, you've had,
- 8:22Speaker 2: you know, different, like, wing eating contests. Are you doing
- 8:25Speaker 2: that this year?
- 8:26Speaker 5: No, we opted not to do the wing eating contest.
- 8:28Speaker 5: We're going to try something new with the cruising car show.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Okay, something a little bit different. And, well, and, you know, being...
- 8:35Speaker 2: Close to the car community, several of my friends and
- 8:38Speaker 2: my brother-in-law is very big in the car community. I
- 8:40Speaker 2: tell you, any chance that they get an opportunity to
- 8:43Speaker 2: take the cars in, they're doing it. They're 100% doing it.
- 8:46Speaker 2: They love to get together. I know I mentioned that
- 8:48Speaker 2: there's the big event happening tomorrow in Winfield. There's other
- 8:50Speaker 2: events going on, too. But any opportunity they get to
- 8:53Speaker 2: come down there, they love it here, and you know that.
- 8:55Speaker 5: Well, the weather looks good on Sunday, and we're hoping
- 8:58Speaker 5: that we have a bunch of cars cruise in. There's
- 9:00Speaker 5: going to be a bunch of people there at the
- 9:01Speaker 5: soccer tournament as well. It's something we're doing a little different.
- 9:05Speaker 5: We actually have a Ribfest soccer tournament going on at
- 9:07Speaker 5: the Sports Complex.
- 9:08Speaker 2: All at the same time.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Right behind the festival. And we have 70 teams coming
- 9:12Speaker 5: in from all over West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia.
- 9:16Speaker 5: So it's going to be packed out there.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I mean, think about that for a moment. And this
- 9:20Speaker 2: kind of goes off of what you're here to talk about.
- 9:22Speaker 2: But I remember when they started talking about Shawnee in
- 9:25Speaker 2: general and people said, oh, nobody's going to care about it.
- 9:28Speaker 2: You've got 70 teams coming in. 70 teams. 70 teams from, again,
- 9:32Speaker 2: here in West Virginia and Virginia and what was the
- 9:34Speaker 2: other state?
- 9:35Speaker 1: Ohio and Kentucky.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Oh, Kentucky. All right, that's 70 teams, okay? How many people,
- 9:39Speaker 2: how many players are on a team? Roughly 15, 15,
- 9:42Speaker 2: 20 people. Okay, we'll say 10, 15, something like that.
- 9:45Speaker 2: You add a couple of parents in there and you
- 9:47Speaker 2: add a couple of siblings, you're going to have all
- 9:49Speaker 2: those people, 70 different teams coming. And they're all going
- 9:54Speaker 2: to be there. They're all going to be staying in
- 9:55Speaker 2: all the hotels around here. Again, I know I kind
- 9:57Speaker 2: of go off on a tangent talking about this stuff.
- 9:59Speaker 2: about how people say that nobody was going to come
- 10:03Speaker 2: out for this thing. Well, I think everybody's been proven
- 10:06Speaker 2: wrong on this because.
- 10:07Speaker 7: They really are.
- 10:08Speaker 2: And a lot of those folks are going to mosey
- 10:10Speaker 2: their way into Ribfest. Oh, absolutely.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 10:13Speaker 5: Funny you mentioned the sports touring piece of it. I
- 10:16Speaker 5: also run Capital Cup. with West Virginia Football Club in
- 10:19Speaker 5: the spring in April. And that tournament actually has close
- 10:22Speaker 5: to 220 teams from all over the East Coast. And
- 10:25Speaker 5: we're talking from New York to Florida. And we usually
- 10:29Speaker 5: sell out every hotel from... Charleston almost all the way
- 10:33Speaker 5: down the honey.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Oh, I've, I've heard the stories. I mean, people were staying,
- 10:36Speaker 2: you know, I mean, down, down the coal fields, they're
- 10:38Speaker 2: of course taking up everything in Taze Valley, Barbersville. I mean, what's, uh,
- 10:42Speaker 2: it's fantastic. It really is.
- 10:44Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 5: We got, we got, we actually got an email, exciting news.
- 10:46Speaker 5: We got an email yesterday from a club up in
- 10:48Speaker 5: New York who wants to bring down 15 teams for
- 10:52Speaker 5: capital cup. So we've never had that many teams come
- 10:55Speaker 5: from out of state. You know, we'll have a team
- 10:56Speaker 5: from New York. We'll have a team from Florida. We'll
- 10:58Speaker 5: have team from South Carolina, but we actually have a group.
- 11:01Speaker 5: of 15 teams coming in from New York for a
- 11:04Speaker 5: capital cup in the spring. And that's exciting that, you know,
- 11:06Speaker 5: that's real growth to the point where this is going
- 11:09Speaker 5: to be turned into something special and it'll be one
- 11:11Speaker 5: of the premier, uh, tournaments on the east coast on
- 11:13Speaker 5: an annual basis.
- 11:14Speaker 2: All right we'll have to get you back on to
- 11:15Speaker 2: talk about that we had a texture says rib fest
- 11:17Speaker 2: is fantastic my kid played for like three hours at
- 11:20Speaker 2: the fun zone last year awesome that's great to hear
- 11:23Speaker 2: and it's three hours that they probably stepped away from
- 11:25Speaker 2: a device to exactly have a little fun out there
- 11:28Speaker 2: all right so uh let's uh go over the hours
- 11:31Speaker 2: and go over all the things here for rib fest aaron.
- 11:33Speaker 5: So um thursday and friday the festival will be operating
- 11:37Speaker 5: from four to ten uh don't forget if you Come
- 11:42Speaker 5: enjoy some ribs. Saturday will be from 11 to 10,
- 11:45Speaker 5: and Sunday will be from 1 to 6.
- 11:46Speaker 2: All right. And we're keeping a close eye on the weather.
- 11:50Speaker 2: But as I said, the ribs have already started smoking,
- 11:52Speaker 2: so you can't turn back now, right?
- 11:54Speaker 5: Can't turn back now. The food is already cooking. It's
- 11:56Speaker 5: already in the oven. You know, we got a big
- 11:58Speaker 5: tent up in case it's raining. So come out and
- 12:00Speaker 5: still enjoy some ribs.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And, of course, I think a lot of our stations
- 12:03Speaker 2: are going to be out there from time to time
- 12:04Speaker 2: over the weekend broadcasting live. So look for your favorite
- 12:07Speaker 2: WVRC media personalities online. out there as well. Aaron would
- 12:10Speaker 2: always appreciate you have it in rib fest going on
- 12:12Speaker 2: at Shawnee. Uh, and it starts today. And again, the
- 12:15Speaker 2: big thing that I didn't know until we sat down
- 12:17Speaker 2: for the interview is if you want to come out
- 12:18Speaker 2: and have lunch there today, they don't officially open a
- 12:21Speaker 2: four o'clock, but they are opening up for lunch. 11
- 12:23Speaker 2: to 2 today and tomorrow. So there's no admission charge.
- 12:26Speaker 2: If you want to come in and you just pay
- 12:28Speaker 2: for your food and enjoy it there or take it
- 12:30Speaker 2: back to work, there'll be that one person in your
- 12:32Speaker 2: office that's going to have to go get like 30
- 12:35Speaker 2: different rib dinners. But that's okay. Let's start this while
- 12:38Speaker 2: they're there. Aaron Wood, I appreciate you being here, man.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
- 12:41Speaker 9: All right.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Thank you.

- 15:27Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. It is nine 23 on
- 15:29Speaker 2: a Thursday morning. Great to have you along here for
- 15:31Speaker 2: Dave Allen show on five 80 live is brought to
- 15:33Speaker 2: you in part by Morgan and Morgan with more than
- 15:35Speaker 2: $ 20 billion recovered. They believe that when you're injured, you
- 15:38Speaker 2: deserve more Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law firm. Uh,
- 15:42Speaker 2: we are working to get Morgan Morrison to talk about, uh, pickle, uh, Palooza.
- 15:48Speaker 2: And apparently we had a little issue here. So Ryan,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I am going to, uh, we're trying to get ahold
- 15:54Speaker 2: of her via phone. That's not working either. Uh, she said,
- 15:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I've been painting pickles for 20 hours.
- 16:01Speaker 10: All right.
- 16:01Speaker 2: So Morgan, I, or, uh, Ryan, I think she's going
- 16:03Speaker 2: to call. So I just texted her the number. So
- 16:05Speaker 2: I think we're going to try to get her on.
- 16:07Speaker 2: She's been painting pickles for 20 hours, she says. So
- 16:10Speaker 2: we are working on that. Text says, do you have
- 16:14Speaker 2: screens there to watch the WV football game on Saturday?
- 16:16Speaker 2: That's a question for Aaron Wood. I am going to
- 16:21Speaker 2: say probably not because, as I've said before in these things,
- 16:25Speaker 2: you run into so many different trademark issues on these
- 16:29Speaker 2: things where you're allowed to show college athletics of anybody.
- 16:33Speaker 2: So I'm going to say probably not because, well, let's
- 16:37Speaker 2: just be honest, the NCAA kind of frowns upon that
- 16:40Speaker 2: sort of thing without you going through the proper licensing
- 16:42Speaker 2: and stuff. Not saying it's not going to happen. I'm
- 16:43Speaker 2: just going to say I don't know for sure.
- 16:47Speaker 9: All right.
- 16:48Speaker 2: If you like pickles, I mean, really, really like pickles.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Picklepalooza is for you. It's happening downtown Saturday at Slack Plaza.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Morgan Morrison's here to talk about it. Good morning and
- 16:58Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
- 17:00Speaker 10: Good morning, Dave. How are you?
- 17:02Speaker 2: I am doing fine. So I was telling the listeners,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I got a text from you when I was trying
- 17:06Speaker 2: to figure out where you were. And I know you're very,
- 17:08Speaker 2: very busy getting ready. But you said, I'm sorry, I've
- 17:11Speaker 2: been painting pickles for 20 hours. 38 years in the business,
- 17:17Speaker 2: almost 56 years on earth. I've never heard somebody give
- 17:19Speaker 2: us an excuse they were painting pickles.
- 17:22Speaker 10: But if anybody was going to be honest about an excuse,
- 17:24Speaker 10: that would be me, right? Because I'm always getting into
- 17:27Speaker 10: so much crazy stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 2: What is painting pickles? I mean, what does that even mean?
- 17:32Speaker 10: Well, you know, you would actually be shocked at the
- 17:37Speaker 10: availability of pickle decorations. I thought that they would be
- 17:41Speaker 10: more bountiful. But, you know, we're doing this pickle-themed pop-up bar.
- 17:46Speaker 10: And I said, you know what? It's okay. We can
- 17:48Speaker 10: just DIY everything. So I have literally... I have a
- 17:52Speaker 10: foam burner and I have maybe handmade at least 400
- 17:58Speaker 10: pickles and hand painted them over the past 48 hours.
- 18:01Speaker 2: All right. So I am.
- 18:03Speaker 7: Go ahead.
- 18:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 18:05Speaker 10: No, I'm just knee deep in pickles right now.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Well, you know what? Who among us hasn't said that?
- 18:09Speaker 10: All right.
- 18:10Speaker 2: So this is the second year for this.
- 18:12Speaker 9: Is that right?
- 18:12Speaker 2: Did I read that right?
- 18:14Speaker 10: Yeah, so Arts Amplified puts on Picklepalooza. This is the
- 18:18Speaker 10: second year. It was their first time doing it last year,
- 18:20Speaker 10: and it was an incredible turnout. Obviously, any time a
- 18:24Speaker 10: first-year event happens, you never know what the turnout's going
- 18:27Speaker 10: to be, and they were absolutely thrilled with the turnout.
- 18:31Speaker 10: I know as a business downtown, I was as well.
- 18:34Speaker 10: So when Brian told me they were bringing it back
- 18:36Speaker 10: this year, I was like, oh my gosh, I want
- 18:39Speaker 10: to do a pop-up pickle bar in collaboration with this.
- 18:43Speaker 10: And so I think it's going to be a really
- 18:45Speaker 10: amazing event. Everybody loves pickles. Most people love pickles, and
- 18:50Speaker 10: it brings a lot of people downtown together. So I'm
- 18:52Speaker 10: just really excited to be a part of the fun.
- 18:54Speaker 2: So where did the idea come from? I mean, somebody
- 18:57Speaker 2: had to say, you know what, let's have a... And look,
- 18:59Speaker 2: this isn't the only one, because I was Googling, getting
- 19:03Speaker 2: a little bit more information. Do you know that the
- 19:06Speaker 2: city of Charleston, South Carolina has Picklepalooza?
- 19:10Speaker 10: You know, I didn't until yesterday when I saw it
- 19:14Speaker 10: actually pop up in my newsfeed where I've been Googling
- 19:17Speaker 10: so much about pickles. I was like, oh... Well, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 10: the big pickle festivals in Pittsburgh as well, I think,
- 19:24Speaker 10: is like the huge ones.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Oh, those people are nuts up there. I mean, I've
- 19:27Speaker 2: been up there, you know, and those people are nuts
- 19:30Speaker 2: over pickles up there. I mean, they actually call it Picklesburg.
- 19:34Speaker 2: They changed the name when they had the festival. But
- 19:36Speaker 2: there's other ones going on, like out in the Midwest,
- 19:38Speaker 2: because I just stupidly Googled Picklepalooza, and like 20 of
- 19:43Speaker 2: them popped up. But we're focusing on the one in Charleston.
- 19:47Speaker 2: But where did somebody at some point just say, you
- 19:49Speaker 2: know what? dang it let's have a pickle festival.
- 19:53Speaker 10: You know, you'd have to, I think, I don't want,
- 19:55Speaker 10: don't quote me wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure
- 19:58Speaker 10: it was John Query's idea, working with Brian Cooper with
- 20:02Speaker 10: Arts Amplified. John Query really was, John Key was really
- 20:06Speaker 10: a big spearhead in this event last year, and they
- 20:09Speaker 10: worked really hard on it. You know, Arts Amplified's always
- 20:12Speaker 10: doing super cool stuff downtown, and they try to do
- 20:15Speaker 10: City Center Live and bring a lot of stuff downtown.
- 20:17Speaker 10: It's just free for people to come and enjoy. So
- 20:21Speaker 10: I'm pretty sure we can give John Q the credit for,
- 20:24Speaker 10: you know, wanting to bring that here. And then Arts Amplified,
- 20:27Speaker 10: they worked really hard to make it happen.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Talking to Morgan Morrison again about Picklepalooza, which is happening Saturday.
- 20:33Speaker 2: City Center at Slank Plaza, 920 Ava Dave Allen Show
- 20:35Speaker 2: on 580 Live. Brought to you in part by the
- 20:37Speaker 2: Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds are going to close out
- 20:40Speaker 2: the season with a homestand against Lexington starting tomorrow night
- 20:42Speaker 2: at Gilmart Ballpark. Special events going on related to 9-11
- 20:46Speaker 2: as well, and we'll talk about that on the show tomorrow.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Check out dirtybirdsbaseball.com if you need more information. People really
- 20:53Speaker 2: do love their pickles, though, because I know the folks
- 20:56Speaker 2: at the South Charleston Farmer's Market had a pickle event
- 20:59Speaker 2: about a month or so ago, and I had Sean
- 21:01Speaker 2: from the South Charleston Farmer's Market on talk. They had
- 21:05Speaker 2: like 50 or 60 different variety of pickles. There's a
- 21:08Speaker 2: whole lot more than just dills and sweet pickles out there, Morgan.
- 21:14Speaker 10: I know. There's a ton. You know, one of my
- 21:17Speaker 10: favorite pickles I've ever had was actually a Kool-Aid pickle.
- 21:20Speaker 2: Those are huge. And that's actually, when talking about the
- 21:24Speaker 2: event out at South Charleston at the Farmer's Market, that's
- 21:26Speaker 2: what Sean, we actually talked to the West Virginia pickle guy, Troy,
- 21:30Speaker 2: the West Virginia pickle guy on the show, and he
- 21:32Speaker 2: said his most popular pickle was the Kool-Aid pickle. And
- 21:37Speaker 2: to me, that sounded a little weird, but I'm always
- 21:40Speaker 2: among the crowd that's like, I mean, I'll try it.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I'll try it. So something made you try it. What
- 21:46Speaker 2: did you think about it?
- 21:48Speaker 10: I love it. I was shocked. You know, I mean,
- 21:49Speaker 10: I'll try anything once. But they're really good. I mean,
- 21:54Speaker 10: it just works. I can't really explain it.
- 21:57Speaker 2: What flavor was it that you were... Because I think
- 21:59Speaker 2: he said, Troy said his was like a, I think,
- 22:03Speaker 2: I want to say it was like a cherry or
- 22:04Speaker 2: something like that. What flavor did you try?
- 22:06Speaker 10: It was the red kind.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:08Speaker 10: So I'm going to assume that's cherry, but... they're delicious.
- 22:11Speaker 10: And you know, the West Virginia pickle guy, like his
- 22:14Speaker 10: pickles are amazing. He has so many pickles and I'm pretty,
- 22:17Speaker 10: you know, our family, I made him like the official
- 22:18Speaker 10: pickle vendor this year of pickle fest because his line
- 22:22Speaker 10: was down the street last year, basically. Um, so we're
- 22:25Speaker 10: really like lucky to have him in our area. Uh,
- 22:29Speaker 10: have you had his pickles? Because his pickles are amazing.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I have, I've had his actually, cause he's at the
- 22:33Speaker 2: hunting and fishing show every year with the Coliseum and
- 22:35Speaker 2: convention center. And, uh, He, generally speaking, does run out.
- 22:38Speaker 2: So he is going to be one of the vendors,
- 22:40Speaker 2: you're saying, down here for Picklepalooza.
- 22:42Speaker 10: Yes. They made him the official pickle vendor of Picklepalooza.
- 22:47Speaker 10: All right.
- 22:47Speaker 2: So if you're a fan of the West Virginia Pickle guy,
- 22:51Speaker 2: Troy is his name, then he is going to be
- 22:53Speaker 2: down there. Do you know off the top of your
- 22:54Speaker 2: head some of the other folks that are going to
- 22:56Speaker 2: be there?
- 22:58Speaker 10: There is a lot of local restaurants. So I do
- 23:03Speaker 10: not have the list. I don't have the list.
- 23:04Speaker 6: That's okay.
- 23:05Speaker 10: I don't have it. They'll have a ton of local
- 23:07Speaker 10: restaurants that have made pickle items, pickles in general, and
- 23:11Speaker 10: you'll get to go around and try the different samples
- 23:14Speaker 10: of pickles. They have some local vendors and local artists
- 23:17Speaker 10: as well. I'm pretty sure West Erie will be there.
- 23:20Speaker 10: So I think they have a really good lineup. There's
- 23:23Speaker 10: also a pickle map that you can pull up on
- 23:26Speaker 10: the Arts Amplified website because there's a lot of local
- 23:29Speaker 10: businesses that wants to be a part of the event,
- 23:32Speaker 10: but they're stuck in their storefront. So, you know, you
- 23:35Speaker 10: can go to the different businesses and the pickle map
- 23:37Speaker 10: will tell you the different businesses that are offering pickle
- 23:40Speaker 10: themed items in collaboration with it. So like short story,
- 23:43Speaker 10: we know short story has amazing pizza. They're going to
- 23:46Speaker 10: have a pickle pizza for pickle Palooza, um, you know,
- 23:49Speaker 10: pies and pints. They're offering their Nashville chicken pizza that
- 23:52Speaker 10: has pickles on it. Uh, tickers and timbers, uh, Prime 101,
- 23:58Speaker 10: everybody's offering a pickle item and you can follow the
- 24:00Speaker 10: pickle map and it'll take you all the places downtown
- 24:03Speaker 10: that have pickle things.
- 24:04Speaker 2: The fact that we even have something called a pickle
- 24:07Speaker 2: map explains where we are as a society right now.
- 24:10Speaker 2: And Morgan, I'm here for it. I'm 100% here for it.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 24:14Speaker 10: I mean, I'm telling you, I love I love when
- 24:17Speaker 10: Arts Amplified does things downtown because they really, truly just
- 24:21Speaker 10: go the extra. I mean, the pickle map. I mean,
- 24:23Speaker 10: it's genius, right? Like it's so cute. It's not like
- 24:27Speaker 10: a printed piece of paper. Like you go on the
- 24:28Speaker 10: website and it looks like Google Maps. But instead of
- 24:31Speaker 10: the buildings, there's like pickles and you click on the
- 24:34Speaker 10: pickle and it tells you where to go. it's truly awesome.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Well, and I love the fact that we are employing,
- 24:40Speaker 2: even if they're not like in person down there, that
- 24:43Speaker 2: the businesses are getting involved because I say so often
- 24:47Speaker 2: and people, listeners are tired of hearing me say this, but,
- 24:51Speaker 2: you know, we got, we have a lot of great
- 24:53Speaker 2: chain restaurants here in the Kanawha Valley and I eat
- 24:56Speaker 2: at them. I know you do as well from time
- 24:58Speaker 2: to time and they employ a lot of people. God
- 25:00Speaker 2: bless them for that. But man, if we could, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 2: these local restaurants, the ones, some of the ones that
- 25:05Speaker 2: you mentioned, these are the ones that that are donating
- 25:07Speaker 2: to your little leagues. These are the ones that are
- 25:09Speaker 2: helping out with your church groups or the ones that
- 25:11Speaker 2: are getting involved when we need sponsors for something, some
- 25:15Speaker 2: of the activities we do. These are the ones that always,
- 25:18Speaker 2: without fail, step up. So any opportunity that we can
- 25:21Speaker 2: get to promote, and we have some killer restaurants in Charleston,
- 25:25Speaker 2: South Charleston, St. Albans, on into Taze Valley, Clendenin area.
- 25:28Speaker 2: We've got some killer restaurants out there. Try to help
- 25:31Speaker 2: these folks out as much as you can, and I
- 25:32Speaker 2: know you can appreciate that.
- 25:35Speaker 10: I can appreciate that, and I preach that as well.
- 25:38Speaker 10: You know, not only are small businesses the one always
- 25:41Speaker 10: to show up and step up for you, they're also,
- 25:44Speaker 10: you know, I tell people all the time, small businesses
- 25:46Speaker 10: are the personality of any town. You know, you can
- 25:49Speaker 10: have so many good things about a town, but if
- 25:51Speaker 10: you didn't have small businesses and things adding to its
- 25:55Speaker 10: personality and identity, when you go to any town, what
- 25:58Speaker 10: do you end up falling in love with? It's the
- 26:00Speaker 10: local businesses, and it truly is. It sets the scene
- 26:03Speaker 10: and they really create the downtown atmosphere. And, you know,
- 26:07Speaker 10: we struggle more than anybody. You know me, I'm a
- 26:11Speaker 10: small business owner myself. And so I cannot preach more
- 26:14Speaker 10: to shop small and support these businesses. And sometimes when
- 26:16Speaker 10: you get these big events downtown, it can be hard
- 26:19Speaker 10: on small businesses because there's so much stuff going on everywhere.
- 26:23Speaker 10: You know, how do you get them in your door?
- 26:26Speaker 10: And so I really applaud Arts Amplified for always going
- 26:31Speaker 10: out of their way to try to include the small
- 26:33Speaker 10: businesses and including them and, you know, supporting them and
- 26:37Speaker 10: shouting them out. And so I think it's going to
- 26:40Speaker 10: be really cool, a really cool experience.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Well, I'll tell you, if you are a foodie as
- 26:44Speaker 2: I am, I can tell you this is the place
- 26:46Speaker 2: to be because I mentioned earlier in the segment before yours,
- 26:48Speaker 2: we talked to Aaron Wood from RibFest. which is going
- 26:51Speaker 2: on at Shawnee. Tomorrow, I'm going to have the folks
- 26:53Speaker 2: on from Chilling on the Elk. That is a chili
- 26:56Speaker 2: beer and wine festival going on on Saturday, and I'm
- 26:59Speaker 2: going to talk to those folks on the show tomorrow.
- 27:03Speaker 2: The Kanawha Valley is the place to be if you
- 27:05Speaker 2: like food, Morgan.
- 27:07Speaker 15: It is.
- 27:08Speaker 16: It is.
- 27:08Speaker 10: We are a bunch of foodies. But, you know, I
- 27:11Speaker 10: have to look up. I did not hear about this
- 27:13Speaker 10: chili beer and wine because I've never heard of that.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 27:16Speaker 2: The chilling on the elk. It's been a big thing
- 27:18Speaker 2: for the last couple of years. We'll have Carrie on
- 27:19Speaker 2: to talk about it tomorrow. Yeah, it's a it's a
- 27:22Speaker 2: huge event. Maybe you'll have to tune in. If you're
- 27:25Speaker 2: not painting pickles, you can tune in tomorrow about 920
- 27:28Speaker 2: or so and hear all about it.
- 27:29Speaker 10: How's that? I'll have to put my AirPods in while
- 27:32Speaker 10: I'm painting pickles.
- 27:32Speaker 2: There you go. We had a text here, Morgan, that said,
- 27:34Speaker 2: I never thought the idea of pickles on a chicken
- 27:37Speaker 2: sandwich would be good until I finally broke down, started
- 27:40Speaker 2: keeping the pickle on my Chick-fil-A sandwich. I was shocked
- 27:42Speaker 2: at how good it actually is. Now, wherever I get
- 27:45Speaker 2: a chicken sandwich from anywhere, if they don't put pickles
- 27:47Speaker 2: on it, I will come home and put pickles on
- 27:49Speaker 2: it from my jar in the refrigerator. It's really, really good.
- 27:52Speaker 2: You referenced the Nashville Hot Chickens. I think that one
- 27:56Speaker 2: of the pies and pints, I think you said, had
- 27:58Speaker 2: their pizza. If you're doing the Nashville hot, you've got
- 28:01Speaker 2: to have the pickles on it. Because, I mean, the
- 28:02Speaker 2: pickles are, not only do they taste great, but they
- 28:05Speaker 2: also help, depending on how hot it is, with some
- 28:07Speaker 2: of the burns sometimes.
- 28:09Speaker 12: Oh, yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 28:10Speaker 10: And, you know, I'm with that. Especially, I don't know
- 28:13Speaker 10: what happened to my taste buds older in years. Like,
- 28:16Speaker 10: I get hangry if they don't put the pickles on
- 28:18Speaker 10: my sandwich. I love pickles on all of my sandwiches.
- 28:23Speaker 10: And I don't know, I just really came to appreciate
- 28:25Speaker 10: them later in life. They're truly just a delicacy, I feel.
- 28:27Speaker 2: Well, I'll give you a little life hack here as
- 28:30Speaker 2: far as the culinary. And you probably already know this,
- 28:32Speaker 2: you know, being the culinary genius that you are. But
- 28:35Speaker 2: I would say we discovered this a couple of years ago.
- 28:38Speaker 2: We buy the spicy pickles in my house. Bellevue makes
- 28:41Speaker 2: some really, really good spicy pickles. If we don't get
- 28:44Speaker 2: them from a vendor, I mean. We get the spicy
- 28:46Speaker 2: ones and take the juice that you have from it
- 28:49Speaker 2: and put it in things like tuna salad and things
- 28:53Speaker 2: like that. My wife makes the best tuna salad in
- 28:55Speaker 2: the world, and that's the way that she does it.
- 28:57Speaker 2: She takes the pickle juice from the spicy pickles and
- 29:00Speaker 2: puts it in the tuna salad. It's fantastic.
- 29:02Speaker 10: You know, now that you say that, I don't know
- 29:04Speaker 10: if you've ever had them, but at the grocery store

- 33:16Speaker 2: Taylor text 304-935-500. We had a text that said, will
- 33:21Speaker 2: Pickle Rick be there? All right. So now Ryan's giving
- 33:24Speaker 2: me this look. I had a feeling because they put
- 33:27Speaker 2: a smiley face after it that I was being played there.
- 33:29Speaker 2: So I had to look it up to see what
- 33:31Speaker 2: Pickle Rick was. And it comes from Morty something or another.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I reckon Morty, is that right? I had to look
- 33:37Speaker 2: it up because I had a feeling that that wasn't
- 33:39Speaker 2: an actual person. And usually I have to rely on
- 33:42Speaker 2: Ryan for things like that. But I figured out, I
- 33:45Speaker 2: looked it up myself. And I'm glad when I Googled
- 33:47Speaker 2: it that it wasn't something that's going to give me
- 33:48Speaker 2: a visit from HR. Just saying. It's all good. Yesterday
- 33:52Speaker 2: we talked about the Putnam County homecoming happening. Actually, it
- 33:56Speaker 2: kind of gets underway tomorrow through Sunday in Winfield. As
- 33:58Speaker 2: part of that, there's going to be a memorial cruise
- 34:01Speaker 2: in called the Local Legends Lost. And it's sponsored by
- 34:04Speaker 2: the City of Winfield West Virginia Drag Racer Hall of
- 34:06Speaker 2: Fame and the 19th Street Grinders. Here to talk about
- 34:09Speaker 2: it is Jim Winter. Jim, good morning. Welcome to the show.
- 34:12Speaker 16: Hey, Dave. Thanks for having me on today.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So tell them what's going
- 34:16Speaker 2: to be going on tomorrow evening.
- 34:18Speaker 16: Well, you know, a year ago we had a little
- 34:20Speaker 16: cruise over in Nitro because I lost three of my
- 34:22Speaker 16: closest car friends. Everybody showed up. We talked about the
- 34:26Speaker 16: good times. And everybody had such a good time. They
- 34:29Speaker 16: started asking me later, hey, can we do this again
- 34:31Speaker 16: next year? And I said, well, I don't know. Anyway,
- 34:34Speaker 16: we decided to put it back together. I started on
- 34:36Speaker 16: this back in February, spreading word to the area car clubs, hey,
- 34:41Speaker 16: get me a list of your members that you have lost.
- 34:44Speaker 16: And the name started rolling in. And I was very
- 34:47Speaker 16: fortunate here in Winfield. Of course, the city of Winfield
- 34:50Speaker 16: is one of my sponsors of this. Mayor Randy Barrett
- 34:53Speaker 16: is very supportive of everything we do here at the
- 34:56Speaker 16: Drag Racer Hall of Fame. He said, hey, bring it
- 34:58Speaker 16: to Winfield. And that's what we're doing. I started out
- 35:02Speaker 16: just taking names, and I realized very quickly this thing
- 35:05Speaker 16: is snowballing, and I've got to limit it to people
- 35:08Speaker 16: that have died in the last five years, or else
- 35:10Speaker 16: this is going to be a two- or three-day car
- 35:12Speaker 16: show just to give me enough time to read the names.
- 35:15Speaker 16: Right now, I've got 63 people I'll be recognizing tomorrow
- 35:20Speaker 16: during about a three-hour period, so it's turning into something
- 35:24Speaker 16: pretty big.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I mean, it sounds like it. Again, we're talking with
- 35:26Speaker 2: Jim Winter, and this is, as you said, you're primarily
- 35:29Speaker 2: limiting this to Those that have died within the last
- 35:32Speaker 2: couple of years, is that what you said?
- 35:33Speaker 16: Well, five years.
- 35:34Speaker 2: Five years, five years, five years.
- 35:36Speaker 16: And car guys or gals that have passed away in
- 35:38Speaker 16: the last five years.
- 35:40Speaker 2: And I mentioned this earlier, Jim, we have such a
- 35:42Speaker 2: car community here in Appalachia, whether it's here in the
- 35:46Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley or wherever you go. I mean, everywhere during
- 35:48Speaker 2: the warm weather months, there's always a car show. going
- 35:51Speaker 2: on somewhere? What is it that you think that, play
- 35:54Speaker 2: the psychology part of it here, what is it that
- 35:56Speaker 2: you think that makes cars, whether it's a cruise in
- 36:00Speaker 2: or car show, such a big part of our American culture?
- 36:04Speaker 16: We are a family. Car people are families. You can
- 36:08Speaker 16: drive down the road, if you go to a major event,
- 36:10Speaker 16: you drive down the road, and if somebody has the
- 36:12Speaker 16: misfortune of breaking down, you'll see anywhere from three to
- 36:15Speaker 16: 15 cars pull in behind them, when they go by
- 36:18Speaker 16: to see if they can help. It's just a class
- 36:21Speaker 16: of people that really enjoys the fellowship of each other,
- 36:24Speaker 16: the camaraderie, and just getting out in the community and
- 36:27Speaker 16: promoting our hobby.
- 36:31Speaker 2: For most people that do this, it's not just a hobby.
- 36:34Speaker 2: It's almost part of their lifestyle. It's an extension of
- 36:37Speaker 2: who they are. Now, the Drag Racer Hall of Fame
- 36:40Speaker 2: is going to be open. And if anybody hasn't been there,
- 36:43Speaker 2: this is really cool. I was there. You mentioned Mayor
- 36:45Speaker 2: Randy Barrett. When this thing first kind of got up
- 36:48Speaker 2: and running, he invited me to come over. My wife
- 36:50Speaker 2: and I were over there, and he brought us and
- 36:52Speaker 2: gave us a little bit of a tour. And I
- 36:53Speaker 2: was involved in a car show with one of our
- 36:55Speaker 2: sister stations here at the mountain, and back in the spring,
- 36:58Speaker 2: I think it was, and there may be some, I
- 37:00Speaker 2: don't know. But anyway, I had a friend of mine
- 37:03Speaker 2: from one of the stations here, and we got to
- 37:06Speaker 2: actually go in and take a look at the Drag
- 37:07Speaker 2: Racers Hall of Fame. If you haven't seen that, Jim,
- 37:10Speaker 2: it is really, really something cool for here in the
- 37:13Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley.
- 37:14Speaker 16: Dave, thanks for promoting it, because I've got a book
- 37:17Speaker 16: in there. You sign in, and it's amazing. The names
- 37:20Speaker 16: on that are from other states. I mean, people come through,
- 37:23Speaker 16: they stop, they go in, and It's covering our local heritage,
- 37:26Speaker 16: our local history. Of course, the original Winfield drag strip
- 37:30Speaker 16: was just about two miles up the road, so it's
- 37:32Speaker 16: a logical place to put it. We've got photographs, artifacts,
- 37:36Speaker 16: I mean, old trophies. You can go in there and
- 37:38Speaker 16: easily spend, what, an hour just looking around.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, there's... As you said, there's photographs, and
- 37:45Speaker 2: you'll probably see somebody you recognize because I was in
- 37:47Speaker 2: there looking around with Shockley from 98.7 The Mountain when
- 37:51Speaker 2: we were at that car show a couple of months ago,
- 37:52Speaker 2: and I was like, that's Danny Jones. That's right. Former
- 37:56Speaker 2: Charleston Mayor Danny Jones, who was quite the drag racer
- 37:58Speaker 2: back in his day. Danny Jones is in there.
- 38:01Speaker 16: Right, and he was actually, as a side note here,
- 38:03Speaker 16: he was very instrumental in developing and promoting the Charleston
- 38:07Speaker 16: Boulevard Rod Run and Doo-Wop, which for a number of
- 38:09Speaker 16: years was West Virginia's largest car show.
- 38:12Speaker 7: Indeed it was.
- 38:13Speaker 2: All right, so give us all the information. And I
- 38:16Speaker 2: will say, if you go to the PutnamCountyHomecoming.com website, they
- 38:20Speaker 2: do a great job with that website promoting everything that's
- 38:23Speaker 2: going on with the homecoming and Winfield. Again, you guys
- 38:25Speaker 2: are going to kind of get it going tomorrow. There's
- 38:26Speaker 2: activities tomorrow. on Saturday and on Sunday, including the parade
- 38:30Speaker 2: on Sunday as well, PutnamCountyHomecoming.com. But just give us all
- 38:35Speaker 2: the info again.
- 38:36Speaker 16: We are actually the kickoff event for the Putnam County Homecoming.
- 38:40Speaker 16: I didn't realize this was all going to link together
- 38:43Speaker 16: in time to get our event on their poster, but
- 38:46Speaker 16: they welcomed us with open arms as a kickoff event.
- 38:49Speaker 16: So we're pleased to be there. It will be this Friday,
- 38:52Speaker 16: September 11th. That is a National Day of Remembrance Day.
- 38:56Speaker 16: We're converting it to, as well as a national day,
- 38:59Speaker 16: a local day of remembrance as we remember our car
- 39:02Speaker 16: gals and guys that have passed during the last five years.
- 39:05Speaker 16: They're gone, but they're not forgotten. Once again, that will
- 39:08Speaker 16: be Friday, September 11th, 5 p.m. until dusk. It's at
- 39:12Speaker 16: the Winfield Municipal Building. That's on Route 817 in Winfield. Actually,
- 39:16Speaker 16: directly across the street from McDonald's. You can't miss the
- 39:19Speaker 16: big golden arches sign. When you see that, look across
- 39:21Speaker 16: the street. You'll see the Winfield Municipal Building. It's got
- 39:24Speaker 16: a big green sign across the front of it. And
- 39:26Speaker 16: you'll see, hopefully, 150, 200 cars if the weather holds.
- 39:30Speaker 4: For us.
- 39:30Speaker 2: Well, it's looking actually, I mean, we got rain off
- 39:32Speaker 2: and on today and tomorrow. But from what I'm hearing,
- 39:36Speaker 2: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes is telling me that by
- 39:39Speaker 2: tomorrow evening, it's going to start to kind of move
- 39:42Speaker 2: out a little bit. So high school football, I know
- 39:44Speaker 2: is going to be going on tomorrow night. And so
- 39:46Speaker 2: things are looking pretty good for you, I think, tomorrow night.
- 39:48Speaker 2: But come on out and enjoy it anyway, Jim. It's
- 39:50Speaker 2: always a pleasure to talk to you and have you
- 39:52Speaker 2: on the show. And I'll be seeing you this weekend.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Thanks a lot.
- 39:54Speaker 16: I'll look forward to it. Thank you so much for
- 39:56Speaker 16: having me on.
- 39:57Speaker 8: All right.
- 39:58Speaker 2: It is 12 minutes away from 10. I invite you

- 44:12Speaker 2: don't pay any admission between 11 and 2. Now, some
- 44:15Speaker 2: of them are still getting set up, but most of
- 44:17Speaker 2: them got there last night. And from what I understand,
- 44:19Speaker 2: the ribs have been smoking ever since. But if you
- 44:23Speaker 2: want to head down there over to Shawnee and you
- 44:24Speaker 2: want to get yourself some ribs today or tomorrow, there's
- 44:27Speaker 2: no admission charge between 11 and 2. if you want
- 44:30Speaker 2: to go over there and check that out for lunch. Picklepalooza,
- 44:33Speaker 2: we just talked about that. Chilling on the Elk, which
- 44:35Speaker 2: we're going to get into on tomorrow's show. Boomtown Days
- 44:40Speaker 2: in Nitro, I will be there on Saturday morning for
- 44:44Speaker 2: a time. Tonight, starting at 7, open sky, open mic
- 44:49Speaker 2: night at City Center at Slight Plaza. 47th Annual Mound
- 44:54Speaker 2: Arts and Crafts Festival, Saturday in South Charleston. There's a
- 44:57Speaker 2: musical being presented at the Auburn in St. Auburn's Mountain
- 45:00Speaker 2: Stage Sunday night at the Culture Center. The Leah's Legacy
- 45:04Speaker 2: 5K run and two-mile walk at City Center at Slack Plaza,
- 45:06Speaker 2: that is on Sunday. And I'm sure I left something out.
- 45:10Speaker 2: And as I said yesterday, please stop with all this.
- 45:12Speaker 2: There's nothing to do.
- 45:14Speaker 14: Really?
- 45:15Speaker 2: If you can't find something to do here in the
- 45:17Speaker 2: Kanawha Valley over the next couple days, including, like I said,
- 45:20Speaker 2: the Putnam County Homecoming, then that is on you. Let
- 45:25Speaker 2: me get to some text. Text says, Dave, did you
- 45:26Speaker 2: see we might get another $ 5, 000 from Trump? Trump's policies
- 45:30Speaker 2: are failing so hard without opposition because Democrats hold no
- 45:33Speaker 2: majority that he has to once again bribe people to
- 45:36Speaker 2: vote Republican. He's promising $ 5, 000 this time. He promised $ 5, 000
- 45:41Speaker 2: for a Doge dividend not received. He promised $ 2, 000 for
- 45:45Speaker 2: a tariff dividend, again, not received. He already owes $ 2, 000.
- 45:49Speaker 2: me $ 7, 000. When am I going to get that? As
- 45:52Speaker 2: I see it, Trump and his policies have cost me
- 45:53Speaker 2: more money than have helped me save or have helped
- 45:56Speaker 2: me earn more, and this is just another lie from
- 45:58Speaker 2: the man with the blank-shaped mouth, says a texter.
- 46:03Speaker 16: All right.
- 46:04Speaker 2: On the whole Rick and Morty thing, because somebody asked
- 46:06Speaker 2: about Pickle Rick, and I had to look up to
- 46:08Speaker 2: see what Pickle Rick was. They sent me the whole
- 46:12Speaker 2: Google thing here, and the texter says, Rick and Morty
- 46:15Speaker 2: makes a Simpsons family guy and American dad Is that true, Ryan? Okay.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Ryan's my culture guy when it comes to things like this.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Coming up later today, Metro News Midday with 13 News
- 46:27Speaker 2: and tonight live anchor Amanda Barron and me, powered by
- 46:29Speaker 2: Selangor Law. Jeff Jenkins has the news. Some of the
- 46:32Speaker 2: cadets of the Mountaineer Challenge Academy are going to join
- 46:35Speaker 2: us ahead of their 9-11 Remembrance Ceremony. Kevin Barry from
- 46:38Speaker 2: the WVU Alumni Association will stop by. Mentioned earlier that
- 46:41Speaker 2: country music superstar Del Nora is playing Ribfest tonight. She's
- 46:45Speaker 2: going to join us in studio today. Metro News meteorologist
- 46:48Speaker 2: Brian Hughes is on a boat, or at least he
- 46:50Speaker 2: will be. He was the other day. Did not saw
- 46:53Speaker 2: him around here, but I think he's heading back up.
- 46:54Speaker 2: But anyway, the 50th annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival is
- 46:59Speaker 2: happening in Marietta, Ohio. That's where Brian and several other
- 47:01Speaker 2: Sternwheelers are. We'll talk to him. And, of course, Open
- 47:04Speaker 2: Line West Virginia also just added to the show. I
- 47:07Speaker 2: don't know if you saw this or not, but there's
- 47:08Speaker 2: been a big controversy down in my native land down
- 47:11Speaker 2: in Logan County. And it has to do with Logan
- 47:14Speaker 2: Elementary School. Logan Elementary School, Logan High School, and Logan
- 47:17Speaker 2: Middle School all located on Middleburg Island in Logan. Last
- 47:22Speaker 2: school year, Logan Elementary School had a fire. It did
- 47:26Speaker 2: not destroy the building, but there was a fire. And
- 47:29Speaker 2: the students had to be moved to Logan Middle School,
- 47:33Speaker 2: which I said is they're all three schools are in
- 47:35Speaker 2: one location there. So they closed the elementary school and
- 47:38Speaker 2: they moved the students over to Logan Middle School. And
- 47:41Speaker 2: they were hoping, the parents were, that the elementary school
- 47:45Speaker 2: would be able to open. It was announced within the
- 47:47Speaker 2: last couple of days, I guess by the Logan County
- 47:50Speaker 2: Board of Education, that the school would not be reopening
- 47:54Speaker 2: and that the kids would remain at a combined Logan Elementary,
- 47:58Speaker 2: Logan Middle School. It is a very, very big deal
- 48:00Speaker 2: down there. And it's really a big deal statewide because
- 48:05Speaker 2: it's gotten a lot of attention because other communities have
- 48:08Speaker 2: faced similar things, not necessarily with a fire, tragically, but
- 48:13Speaker 2: with things like consolidation and things of that nature. And
- 48:17Speaker 2: we're going to talk to Shana Thompson, who is a
- 48:19Speaker 2: parent of some, I'm not sure how many kids she has,
- 48:23Speaker 2: but she has at least one that I'm aware of
- 48:25Speaker 2: that attends Logan Elementary School. And she's got a real
- 48:28Speaker 2: issue with the way things are handled down there. So
- 48:31Speaker 2: we're going to talk to her on that coming up
- 48:33Speaker 2: on the show today as well. Guarantee Bank Hotline 304-345-5858.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Tony Vitello, text 304-935-5008. Text says, Dave, did you happen
- 48:43Speaker 2: to see that John Fetterman made an appearance at the
- 48:45Speaker 2: Republican midterm convention last night? He's getting slammed by Democrats
- 48:49Speaker 2: online now. Don't you just love that liberal tolerance that
- 48:55Speaker 2: they lecture the rest of us about? I just got
- 48:58Speaker 2: TV on the studio here, as we always do. And
- 49:01Speaker 2: I just saw Fetterman. I saw where Fetterman was there.
- 49:05Speaker 2: I mean, to me, it's it's I mean, I'm all
- 49:09Speaker 2: about people working together bipartisanship. I talk about it on
- 49:12Speaker 2: all the time that just because you have different political
- 49:14Speaker 2: beliefs doesn't mean you can't sit down, have a cup
- 49:16Speaker 2: of coffee, have dinner, have a beer, talk about it, whatever.
- 49:19Speaker 1: But.
- 49:21Speaker 2: A sitting senator, I'll get it out here, like John
- 49:30Speaker 2: Fetterman making an appearance at an RNC, that does seem
- 49:32Speaker 2: a little bit weird to me. I'm just saying. But
- 49:36Speaker 2: I did not see. What are you talking about? Meadows
- 49:41Speaker 2: just comes in here talking to himself. You know there's
- 49:43Speaker 2: nobody in the room with you, right? You're just coming
- 49:45Speaker 2: here talking to yourself.
- 49:45Speaker 12: I was talking to someone in the hallway, and I
- 49:48Speaker 12: inadvertently opened the door too soon, and I wasn't done,
- 49:50Speaker 12: and I apologize for busting in on your broadcast.
- 49:52Speaker 2: There is a sign there. I don't know if you've
- 49:55Speaker 2: ever seen it that says on air. If it's on
- 49:59Speaker 2: a spreadsheet, you'd know it. You know, I'm just busting you, man.
- 50:04Speaker 2: We're just having fun here. Well, you know, I'm not
- 50:06Speaker 2: mad at you. I deserved it. I screwed up. I'm
- 50:09Speaker 2: just kidding with you. All right. So let me get
- 50:13Speaker 2: back to some text here. Text says, will there be
- 50:15Speaker 2: any animals from the Putnam County shelter during the homecoming?
- 50:18Speaker 2: I know they're overflowing just like Kanawha County is. Don't know.
- 50:20Speaker 2: I will check on that. Text says, Florida guy here, Dave.
- 50:23Speaker 2: The hyper speculation about AI wiping out mankind is just that.
- 50:28Speaker 2: God plainly says how mankind will be dealt with, and
- 50:31Speaker 2: all the media bravo Sierra is only to draw eyeballs
- 50:35Speaker 2: and clicks. Fake news media gets worse by the moment,
- 50:38Speaker 2: if that is even possible. Coming up on this show tomorrow,
- 50:43Speaker 2: it is Friday, which means we'll introduce you to another
- 50:45Speaker 2: Adopt Me, Please Pet of the Week from the Kanawha-Charleston
- 50:47Speaker 2: Humane Association, brought to you by Almost Heaven Interiors. Mitch
- 50:50Speaker 2: and Sheldon on the Elk, we'll talk about that tomorrow,
- 50:52Speaker 2: and it is the final episode weekend for the Charleston
- 50:56Speaker 2: Dirty Birds over at Goldmont Ballpark. And they have a
- 50:59Speaker 2: series against Lexington, which will get underway tomorrow. They are
- 51:02Speaker 2: going to be paying tribute to first responders and whatnot
- 51:05Speaker 2: and remembrance of 9-11. So we'll be joined by folks
- 51:07Speaker 2: from the Dirty Birds coming up on the show tomorrow
- 51:10Speaker 2: as well. All right, Meadows, what you got?
- 51:13Speaker 12: Coming up on the show today, Hoppy Kirchival joins us
- 51:15Speaker 12: at 1106.
- 51:16Speaker 2: He's going to talk about... Morrissey versus Big Jim.
- 51:20Speaker 12: He's going to talk about Trump's $ 5, 000 promise last night.
- 51:24Speaker 12: We'll get into that with the dean. Also, Andrew Donaldson
- 51:27Speaker 12: comes on your show a lot, our show commentator in
- 51:29Speaker 12: West Virginia.
- 51:29Speaker 9: Watch.
- 51:30Speaker 12: He's going to talk about the governor's shirt this past
- 51:33Speaker 12: Saturday at the WVU game.
- 51:34Speaker 2: We'll get into that, plus news of the day, much,
- 51:37Speaker 2: much more as well. All right, TJ Meadows, Dave Wilson
- 51:39Speaker 2: coming up with Talk Line 1006. I'll see you later
- 51:41Speaker 2: today with Metro News Midday with 13 News and Tonight
- 51:43Speaker 2: Live anchor Amanda Barron. Brought to you by Salango Law.
- 51:46Speaker 2: See you then. Until then, have fun and love somebody.
