- 1:13Speaker 3: you know them people just emerge, you know, like Divis.
- 1:17Speaker 2: With the old stocking caps and the stunner shades.
- 1:20Speaker 3: They just emerged from the background, like Yo, we back out,
- 1:24Speaker 3: we back outside were good?
- 1:26Speaker 2: Like yeah, So I'm happy to be here man for sure.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Yeah, man, and really quick business for y'all. You know
- 1:33Speaker 1: what I'm saying again, a couple of weeks ago we
- 1:37Speaker 1: were trying to hit a month ago, maybe we were
- 1:39Speaker 1: trying to hit five hundred subscribers. We reached that goal
- 1:43Speaker 1: with your help greatly appreciate it or but keep saying
- 1:46Speaker 1: that on every episode. So obviously the goal is to
- 1:49Speaker 1: get to one thousand. For those who don't know why
- 1:53Speaker 1: YouTube will say stuff like this or subscribers, I mean
- 1:56Speaker 1: not subscribers, but content creators talk about these things. Specifically
- 2:00Speaker 1: with YouTube is because it gets your content in front
- 2:05Speaker 1: of people who would prefer to watch it, right, Like
- 2:09Speaker 1: the target audience. It's a grind when you're under five hundred,
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's another grind when you're under a thousand, and it
- 2:16Speaker 1: keeps going and going. But reaching five hundred put the
- 2:21Speaker 1: podcast in front of those who travel search YouTube, right,
- 2:26Speaker 1: You maybe browsing through and like, oh, it puts it
- 2:30Speaker 1: on your homepage if you like a lot of hip
- 2:33Speaker 1: hop or whatever, and it puts it in searches. Right,
- 2:36Speaker 1: as far as I know, I've said that, but as
- 2:39Speaker 1: far as the algorithm of you know, maybe you're looking
- 2:42Speaker 1: for a hip hop podcast, so now my podcast will
- 2:46Speaker 1: pop up as a result of people subscribing. As before
- 2:50Speaker 1: it really wouldn't right. You would really have to fond
- 2:53Speaker 1: down to Hip Hop Now Podcasts Vegas the name of
- 2:57Speaker 1: the episode, you would really have to get very detailed
- 3:00Speaker 1: in order to find it. So now it makes it
- 3:02Speaker 1: easier to find. And you know, whether you hear because
- 3:06Speaker 1: of shorts, the weekly show or specials like this is
- 3:09Speaker 1: greatly appreciated. But also remember I read my stats, more
- 3:15Speaker 1: than fifty percent of the people who watch, who even
- 3:18Speaker 1: comment or respond, are not subscribed. So if you like
- 3:23Speaker 1: these shows and these episodes enough to comment, to hit
- 3:27Speaker 1: a like button to go and tell your peeps about it,
- 3:30Speaker 1: subscribe because it helps the channel out. You can pop
- 3:34Speaker 1: in whenever you want, the content will be here. And
- 3:38Speaker 1: also for those who are like, yeah, we want to
- 3:40Speaker 1: watch what I'm at work, there's an audio version is
- 3:43Speaker 1: been and play for Apple, So whether it's Spotify, Apple Podcasts,
- 3:49Speaker 1: whatever it is, you can subscribe to the content and
- 3:53Speaker 1: every now and again, you know, like we said earlier,
- 3:56Speaker 1: we got to pop out and do some more content.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You know, you put out a couple of videos this
- 4:02Speaker 1: week and now the Boogieyman is back outside. Batman is
- 4:09Speaker 1: back outside. And is very interesting. So those who don't
- 4:13Speaker 1: know and can't tell by the title the video on
- 4:17Speaker 1: the background, Kendrick Lamar dropped an album. Now we knew
- 4:22Speaker 1: an album was coming. We're just still in a win
- 4:24Speaker 1: like we didn't know that around the Super Bowl maybe
- 4:27Speaker 1: maybe Christmas so Black Friday. Nah, Kendrick says, I'm gonna
- 4:33Speaker 1: pop out when you don't think I'm coming now, Okay,
- 4:37Speaker 1: like he did with all the other stuff like Euphoria
- 4:39Speaker 1: and all the you know, go, Kendrick dropped again. It's
- 4:42Speaker 1: kind of become a theme. And I think I saw
- 4:47Speaker 1: it on Blue Sky. I was on the timeline and
- 4:51Speaker 1: the dude was like, Yo, Kendrick just dropped. So I'm
- 4:56Speaker 1: not the type to just believe some random dude on
- 4:59Speaker 1: my timeline disrespect. So I just went to Spotify and
- 5:03Speaker 1: right there at the top g n X, Kendrick Lamar's
- 5:07Speaker 1: brand new album just released. Twelve songs, forty four minutes
- 5:12Speaker 1: and twenty seconds of content, a number of features, especially
- 5:17Speaker 1: on the West Coast, And I instantly hit up the
- 5:22Speaker 1: HOMEIOK and a couple of other people and said, Yo,
- 5:26Speaker 1: this dude's just dropped it out.
- 5:27Speaker 2: He just dropped an album.
- 5:29Speaker 1: A when you got the text, when you laid eyes
- 5:33Speaker 1: on the oh yeah, it's an album. It's not AI,
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's not this or that. What were your thoughts because
- 5:41Speaker 1: you were working?
- 5:41Speaker 3: Right, I was at work, man, but I thankfully when
- 5:45Speaker 3: you text me, I was just I was going on
- 5:48Speaker 3: my lust break twelve o'clock.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You know what I mean.
- 5:52Speaker 3: And you know, when I seen the text, it was
- 5:55Speaker 3: just like sugar honey, ice tea, like, oh, like, yo, okay,
- 6:00Speaker 3: we we bag on, we bag out, you know.
- 6:03Speaker 2: So I clicked.
- 6:04Speaker 3: The the link that you sent and the snippet for.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Uh, what is that the first track morals?
- 6:22Speaker 3: Yeah, so that started playing, but it started playing like
- 6:26Speaker 3: right on the most controversial part like that that was
- 6:32Speaker 3: something too. So I'm like, I'm like, yo, hold up,
- 6:35Speaker 3: like I want to I want the real experience, like
- 6:39Speaker 3: I want to hear it from beginning to end. So
- 6:43Speaker 3: then I went to YouTube and YouTube like the arrangement
- 6:48Speaker 3: wasn't right because I'm looking at what you said, I'm
- 6:50Speaker 3: looking at what's on you. I'm like, yo, the arrangement.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I'm like, oh nah, I ain't doing that, you know
- 6:58Speaker 3: what I'm saying. And so I went to iTunes or
- 7:04Speaker 3: music Apple music, my bad older brother here, you know,
- 7:09Speaker 3: Apple music, you know, and I saw, you know, and
- 7:12Speaker 3: I hit the purchase button.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Man, let's go, you know what I mean, hit.
- 7:16Speaker 3: The purchase button and press play to get the full experience.
- 7:22Speaker 3: And thankfully it was on my break, so I got
- 7:24Speaker 3: to hear everything, and then I had to go back
- 7:27Speaker 3: to work. So it's like, couldn't really like absorb it
- 7:32Speaker 3: like that, but I got enough to hear what was
- 7:34Speaker 3: going on, listen to the whole album, but like to
- 7:36Speaker 3: really to get my run back, because you gotta run
- 7:39Speaker 3: things back.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I couldn't really get the runbacks.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel you like, for me, my experience was
- 7:48Speaker 1: like you know, at first, you know, it was confirmation right,
- 7:52Speaker 1: like is this it? And Kendrick was on Blue Sky already.
- 7:57Speaker 1: That was one thing that kind of I think tipped
- 8:02Speaker 1: some of us off that what is he about to do?
- 8:05Speaker 1: You know, is he moving because he's not gonna say
- 8:07Speaker 1: he's moving from Twitter to Blue Sky, but or is
- 8:11Speaker 1: they just finding the spot in a way that you know,
- 8:13Speaker 1: like Chuck d and Dayla Soul and all these other
- 8:16Speaker 1: people did. So it was kind of like a flag.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And when I checked his Blue Sky, it was like
- 8:22Speaker 1: it was right there. It was like maybe the only post.
- 8:27Speaker 1: So you know, once I just knew, like, Okay, this
- 8:29Speaker 1: is the album. This ain't no AI, this ain't no Lucy's.
- 8:34Speaker 1: I just went ahead and was like, Yeah, this is
- 8:39Speaker 1: what's going to happen. You know what I'm saying. Sony
- 8:42Speaker 1: m For's they don't sponsor anything. Got the proper base
- 8:46Speaker 1: will absorb all the quality, you know, whatever they doing
- 8:49Speaker 1: with mixing and mastering, put this on, put the call
- 8:54Speaker 1: of duty black ops on, and just went in and
- 8:57Speaker 1: I ain't gonna front. A couple of times I was like, man,
- 9:00Speaker 1: the controller, like let me hold on?
- 9:02Speaker 2: What do he say? Like you know what I'm saying?
- 9:04Speaker 2: What do you say? Right there? With the reward factor?
- 9:07Speaker 1: And I wound up listening to it three times in
- 9:11Speaker 1: a row. Now, typically I don't do that, Like you know,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I'll be in the gym and I'll listen to the
- 9:18Speaker 1: album and then maybe I get home and I listen
- 9:21Speaker 1: and then because I know I'm going to do you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: the show, I'll do that like confirmation listen like did
- 9:28Speaker 1: I think it was good or bad? Kind of listen.
- 9:31Speaker 1: But I just with with Kendrick. If you don't know
- 9:35Speaker 1: when you're watching this with Kendrick Lamar. Specifically, I said
- 9:38Speaker 1: this when I did a little short like reaction of
- 9:42Speaker 1: video today that's on the channel on this channel that
- 9:47Speaker 1: Hendrick can sometimes if you're not paying close attention, can
- 9:51Speaker 1: just sound like he's just rapping, like it's just words
- 9:54Speaker 1: and he's just rapping. But if you don't know what
- 9:59Speaker 1: he's talking about, then that's when it could sound like that.
- 10:01Speaker 1: But if you catch one thing, then all of a sudden,
- 10:04Speaker 1: it's like a domino effect. It's like the verse opens
- 10:08Speaker 1: up once you catch the one thing, like, oh, that's
- 10:11Speaker 1: what this is about, so then you want to rewind,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and then everything that sound so normal, runner the male
- 10:19Speaker 1: words and ron all of a sudden becomes this metaphor
- 10:23Speaker 1: for something much deeper than you thought it was going
- 10:26Speaker 1: to be, you know what I'm saying, Like we did
- 10:28Speaker 1: with six sixteen, Like that title alone, it's like, yo,
- 10:32Speaker 1: it's two by birthday and his father's day, and that's
- 10:35Speaker 1: when Kendrick woke up like it was it was all
- 10:38Speaker 1: these easter eggs and yeah, it just was one of
- 10:43Speaker 1: those things where I kind of wanted to absorb what
- 10:45Speaker 1: the album was and what it was about. So when
- 10:48Speaker 1: you gave it that first listen, especially when you went
- 10:52Speaker 1: back and listen, what was like an overall impression of
- 10:57Speaker 1: this album, Because we say that, like Kendrick as no
- 11:02Speaker 1: no elms in his catalog, and here's an album coming
- 11:05Speaker 1: off of a battle that we assume has a concept
- 11:11Speaker 1: because he never puts anything out without a concept. What
- 11:15Speaker 1: did you think about the album initially just running through
- 11:18Speaker 1: the tracks and then once you got to really dig in,
- 11:21Speaker 1: what were your thoughts after or were they the same?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I thought that this was pop out the album.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Mm hmm. You know what I'm saying, This sounded like
- 11:32Speaker 2: what was going on on that stage.
- 11:34Speaker 3: This sounds like just unadulterated West Coast, but you know,
- 11:42Speaker 3: the new the new millennium.
- 11:46Speaker 2: This is this is what we sound like today. This
- 11:48Speaker 2: is what it is today.
- 11:50Speaker 3: And you know with that, that that passion, that aggression,
- 11:56Speaker 3: whether me not say aggression, the competitive you know, that
- 12:01Speaker 3: competitive approach that we saw at the pop out and
- 12:07Speaker 3: then when we got towards the like the middle, when
- 12:11Speaker 3: the other West Coast brothers started popping out, it's like,
- 12:15Speaker 3: oh yeah, oh so we're doing this.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Is what's going on?
- 12:18Speaker 3: Like, oh we really were really at the pop out
- 12:21Speaker 3: like yeah, so that whole yo, you know, you know
- 12:28Speaker 3: this comes from the other the blogger, you know, the
- 12:32Speaker 3: blogger or something, you know, like Drake fans whatnot, Like, Yo,
- 12:36Speaker 3: he ain't gonna show love to none of them people
- 12:38Speaker 3: that was on stage and he ain't never gonna hear
- 12:41Speaker 3: from them again.
- 12:41Speaker 2: Well we can, you can.
- 12:45Speaker 3: You can stop saying that now, like that didn't age
- 12:48Speaker 3: well because here you.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Go, you know what I'm saying in.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Full effect, unadulterated, unapologetic, you know. To me, yeah, it's
- 13:00Speaker 3: like pop Out the album, you know, and folks, I've
- 13:05Speaker 3: been hearing some takes about it like yo, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 3: just don't really have like a concept to it. But
- 13:13Speaker 3: that that wasn't my initial thought.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I just thought that this was pop Out the album,
- 13:19Speaker 2: that was the concept.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Yeah, because when you pointed that out like at first,
- 13:27Speaker 1: you know, on the first listen for me, you know,
- 13:30Speaker 1: it's more so you listen to the beats at different flows,
- 13:34Speaker 1: the approaches. You're trying to catch bars here and there,
- 13:36Speaker 1: but everything's so new you're just trying to navigate through
- 13:41Speaker 1: the album on that first listen, especially when it's so
- 13:44Speaker 1: much hype behind it because it just dropped. I'm reading
- 13:48Speaker 1: social media. Everybody going crazy. You know, people are posting
- 13:53Speaker 1: ads there listening to it, so they'll put a thought
- 13:57Speaker 1: out there about a song and yo, this might be
- 13:59Speaker 1: my favorite and blah blah blah. So I was kind
- 14:03Speaker 1: of like scatterbrain with it the first time, and the
- 14:05Speaker 1: second time listening looking at the cover, catching some of
- 14:11Speaker 1: the themes, I was like, yeah, you're right, this is
- 14:14Speaker 1: first of all, this is like a straight up West
- 14:18Speaker 1: Coast album, right, like we're gonna plant that flag. It's
- 14:22Speaker 1: all West Coast. But it's like he's also leaning heavy
- 14:26Speaker 1: in the hip hop category.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Yes, sir, Yes for sure.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Under lying like thing there with the not just the
- 14:35Speaker 1: whole Big three and goat thing, even though there's you know,
- 14:39Speaker 1: mentions of goats and stuff like that, but he's still
- 14:43Speaker 1: stunting on that level and name dropping here and there,
- 14:47Speaker 1: whether it be positive or negative. But then, like you said,
- 14:52Speaker 1: then I'm looking at all of it, and in the
- 14:54Speaker 1: back of my mind, I'm thinking about all the dis
- 14:57Speaker 1: tracks and everything he said it knows, and I'm like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you know what, I don't know if he already had
- 15:05Speaker 1: this shit or he just said we need to everything
- 15:11Speaker 1: needs to capture everything I did from euphoria, like like
- 15:17Speaker 1: that was more so come outside and play, and then
- 15:21Speaker 1: everything was strategic from Euphoria on. It's incredible because like,
- 15:28Speaker 1: how do you do that? You know what I'm saying,
- 15:30Speaker 1: Like you can't predict? Well, then again maybe you can,
- 15:34Speaker 1: because you know the light skin dude's been throwing shots
- 15:37Speaker 1: for a very long time and you're throwing them at
- 15:40Speaker 1: Batman and Batman is like, oh, no, I've been had
- 15:44Speaker 1: a plan for all of y'all. I've been had it
- 15:49Speaker 1: for all of y'all. But I agree. I was listening
- 15:53Speaker 1: and I was like, yeah, this is like every time
- 15:56Speaker 1: we fall back and it happened, he just restarts that
- 16:01Speaker 1: engine of how it started all over again. And I think,
- 16:07Speaker 1: you know, in a lot of ways, it just makes
- 16:09Speaker 1: it even more excited to check out now.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Real quick.
- 16:15Speaker 1: For those who don't know, right, we said his twelve
- 16:18Speaker 1: songs on here, and if you know Kendrick Glamar, the
- 16:22Speaker 1: East Eggs are not only in the lyrics then the
- 16:25Speaker 1: cover in the car right that he got there, which
- 16:30Speaker 1: is the what is that thebutick? What is it called?
- 16:35Speaker 2: Damn? Now?
- 16:36Speaker 1: I forgot that grand national something I don't think it's
- 16:42Speaker 1: an experience. It's grand actionally something. It's the name of
- 16:45Speaker 1: the type of card that was produced in nineteen eighty seven,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and it's probably a popular West Coast whip at one time.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I believe that's the connection. Also, I'm pretty sure there's
- 16:59Speaker 1: way more to that. But those are the surface things
- 17:01Speaker 1: that kind of come up. But also, you know on
- 17:05Speaker 1: the album, they're not like us video the tea's that
- 17:09Speaker 1: we got in the front that everybody was like, what's that?
- 17:12Speaker 1: You know, well that is the second song when an
- 17:14Speaker 1: album called Squabbled Up, and man, hearing it by itself
- 17:19Speaker 1: is just like gets it's everything we kind of thought
- 17:23Speaker 1: it was.
- 17:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's my favorite track man words squabble Up.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Squabble Up. Man, Yo, it's yo. That joint. It made
- 17:34Speaker 2: me feel like a kid again. Man. You know, maybe
- 17:38Speaker 2: Phil took me back to being a child.
- 17:40Speaker 3: When the the Debbie Dead sample, you know drops, you know,
- 17:48Speaker 3: for the for the chorus, it's like, you know, I
- 17:52Speaker 3: hear the music joint like.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yo, yo, that is like the little the little kid
- 18:00Speaker 2: dancing at.
- 18:00Speaker 3: The cookout, like you're trying to do the hip hop
- 18:04Speaker 3: dance at the cookout, Like I was just like wow, Like, yeah,
- 18:09Speaker 3: so that's that's my actually, my favorite song on the
- 18:13Speaker 3: on the album.
- 18:14Speaker 1: And for those watching, obviously we're gonna get into the records.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I just wanted to point that one out because that
- 18:21Speaker 1: was like the first thing we heard from this album.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Uh.
- 18:25Speaker 1: He also released a video that you see in the
- 18:27Speaker 1: background with a song that's not on the album. Yeah
- 18:31Speaker 1: about that, which is again Batman being Batman. He's just like, yeah,
- 18:40Speaker 1: oh this, well, I don't know. He's an album. We're
- 18:47Speaker 1: gonna be We're gonna be around the you tie the
- 18:50Speaker 1: chestnuts roasting on the fire. He's gonna be like pop
- 18:53Speaker 1: out again again, like, oh, it's a double album. I
- 18:57Speaker 1: didn't tell y'all. That is the rest of it. But
- 19:03Speaker 1: also before we get into the tracks, one other thing,
- 19:07Speaker 1: one other song. I just want to shed some light
- 19:09Speaker 1: on the Heart Part six. An I did not even
- 19:15Speaker 1: listen to it yet, but when I saw it there,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I was like, oh, so he's not even going to
- 19:21Speaker 1: try to change it. He's just gonna say, nah, I
- 19:24Speaker 1: do the Heart Part six, not that dude. I talk
- 19:29Speaker 1: about the fact that Kendrick for those who don't know,
- 19:33Speaker 1: because I know it was a wipeout season when you're
- 19:36Speaker 1: not like Us, So you don't even think Drake responded
- 19:40Speaker 1: to that, but he did with a song called The
- 19:43Speaker 1: Hard Part six. Now, it didn't catch any win because
- 19:46Speaker 1: Not Like Us was already a smash when they dropped.
- 19:48Speaker 1: But also Drake was sounding all defeated at the end,
- 19:52Speaker 1: and honestly, he kind of teased this album at the
- 19:56Speaker 1: end of that song as well, saying you probably got it.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I knew you're about to drop and all sad, ship.
- 20:01Speaker 1: But when you heard, because you heard it before me,
- 20:05Speaker 1: when you heard the Heart Part six, what was your thought,
- 20:09Speaker 1: given the fact that this is a part of a
- 20:11Speaker 1: stellar series of songs for Kendrick.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Oh, that it was.
- 20:18Speaker 3: It was absolutely what it needed to be.
- 20:21Speaker 2: It's absolutely what it needed to be.
- 20:23Speaker 3: I was not expecting the SWV sample, I was. I
- 20:29Speaker 3: wasn't expecting that, And yeah, so I said, squabble up
- 20:36Speaker 3: made me feel like a kid, a little kid. The
- 20:40Speaker 3: Heart Part six took me back to feeling like a teenager.
- 20:43Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, Like, Yo, he's.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Talking about first of all, the SWV sample, Then he's
- 20:50Speaker 3: talking about how you know tde how they first met
- 20:53Speaker 3: and the brothers is huddled up in the studio and
- 20:56Speaker 3: and how he's just like you know, the little dude
- 20:59Speaker 3: behind you. And it's like, Yo, if Jay Rock get on, yo,
- 21:02Speaker 3: that's that would have been good enough for me, you.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Know, yo. Great great, great, great part.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Of the series because it's his series, so great part
- 21:16Speaker 3: of the series.
- 21:17Speaker 2: And it's like, Yo, what Drake track? What Delete the track? Yo? Yo?
- 21:23Speaker 2: Delete delete delete the track?
- 21:26Speaker 3: It don't even it don't exist no more like that
- 21:30Speaker 3: is like what's that? Like?
- 21:32Speaker 2: The only the only.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Reason to keep it around is just to see how
- 21:37Speaker 3: dirty you got done over Like that's the only reason
- 21:40Speaker 3: they need to exist. Otherwise delete the delete the track, yo, like,
- 21:46Speaker 3: And that's what I thought was so great. It's like, Yo, Kendrick,
- 21:51Speaker 3: don't have to tell you, oh yeah, you're gonna have
- 21:54Speaker 3: to go ahead and delete that.
- 21:55Speaker 2: No, I'm gonna go ahead and do what I do.
- 21:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna do I do.
- 22:01Speaker 3: And it's not it's really nothing else to talk about.
- 22:05Speaker 2: What track? What this is the hard part? Six?
- 22:09Speaker 3: Like I don't know what he talking about over there,
- 22:11Speaker 3: Like right, that's what that's what this is.
- 22:15Speaker 2: That's what that did.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Like I like, yeah, man, it's great job, man, great,
- 22:22Speaker 3: great work.
- 22:23Speaker 2: Great work. Yeah, you I had to.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Honestly, I had to hold my patience in order looking
- 22:30Speaker 1: at that title as I went through the album, knowing
- 22:34Speaker 1: there was some ship there for sure, I guarantee, like
- 22:39Speaker 1: all the other songs, I didn't know what to expect,
- 22:41Speaker 1: but there I was like, damn, I know when I
- 22:44Speaker 1: get to hard part six, that.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Might be the one.
- 22:48Speaker 1: But it was. It exceeded my expectations because he said
- 22:53Speaker 1: he's already told a coming of age tale of himself
- 22:56Speaker 1: so many times, but never in this way, never of
- 23:00Speaker 1: this intimate, never in a way that answered a lot
- 23:03Speaker 1: of questions about him with TDE leaving TDE, how they
- 23:08Speaker 1: begin his feelings, and his feelings were pretty honest, like
- 23:12Speaker 1: like you said, being content with j Rod getting on
- 23:16Speaker 1: or being excited to be a part of a label meeting.
- 23:22Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying where you know now? I mean,
- 23:24Speaker 1: he has his own thing, but you know, there's probably
- 23:26Speaker 1: most artists that probably relate to sometimes not wanting to
- 23:30Speaker 1: be a part of those things. But you know, it
- 23:33Speaker 1: was his excitement of getting on and now's the time
- 23:35Speaker 1: to shine kind of thing. And like you said, the
- 23:38Speaker 1: SWV sample, I love that record. I just heard it
- 23:41Speaker 1: the other day, like, damn, I need to run that back.
- 23:44Speaker 1: This dude puts it on an album. It's like, oh man,
- 23:48Speaker 1: like it's crazy, but let's let's get into the tracks
- 23:53Speaker 1: on the album started with the number one song, the
- 23:56Speaker 1: first thing you hear when you press plays called why Murals.
- 24:01Speaker 1: When I saw whacked out, I was like, oh no,
- 24:04Speaker 1: he's killing them again, Like let me press play, because
- 24:07Speaker 1: I knew there was something there, but not what I expected,
- 24:12Speaker 1: you know, and some of it I did not catch
- 24:16Speaker 1: until after the fact. To be honest, I like on
- 24:20Speaker 1: a you know, like a runback certain.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Lines ot.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Kendrick decides to pull little Wayne out the rehab and
- 24:30Speaker 1: smack him around a little bit and then put him.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Back real subtle, too subtle.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Professionally, professionally Lil Wayne, and point out the elephant in
- 24:44Speaker 1: the room. No beef is just let's read the boss
- 24:49Speaker 1: used to bump the carter three. I held my roly
- 24:52Speaker 1: chain proud, irony. I think my hard work. Let Lil
- 24:57Speaker 1: Wayne Dann all right, when you heard them boars, what
- 25:02Speaker 1: did you think about Kendrick addressing the whole Super Bowl
- 25:06Speaker 1: fiasco or halftime stow fiasco.
- 25:09Speaker 3: It's needed my my thought was I'm all for it.
- 25:15Speaker 3: I'm all for it.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Lil Wayne.
- 25:17Speaker 3: You can get some of this work too, and listen,
- 25:21Speaker 3: it's gonna be that will definitely cause like a divide
- 25:25Speaker 3: and civil war and hip hop. But look, man, you know,
- 25:29Speaker 3: just we gotta stay sucker free.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Man. We gotta stop with this, you know what I mean?
- 25:34Speaker 3: Like, I just don't like how that went down, how
- 25:40Speaker 3: that was how they tried to carry yo.
- 25:44Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Like yo, man, And that is a theme throughout the album,
- 25:49Speaker 3: like Yo, the brother worked to get there, like he
- 25:52Speaker 3: ain't just that wasn't it wasn't it wasn't a nepotism.
- 25:58Speaker 2: It wasn't a gimme yo. He worked for that spot, right,
- 26:04Speaker 2: you know.
- 26:04Speaker 3: And for for Wayne to do all that crying, it's like, yeah, Yo,
- 26:08Speaker 3: you need some STRAIGHTENINGI Yo, you need some straightening.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Yo.
- 26:12Speaker 2: You got straighten up, yo? Or or sit.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Down or something like yeah we need an intervention, something
- 26:20Speaker 3: like what we gotta do, like yo, like you feel
- 26:25Speaker 3: that strongly where to work at?
- 26:28Speaker 2: Where's the work? You know?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Like even with the clip that we see online of
- 26:34Speaker 3: him talking to YG and he said, you know, I
- 26:38Speaker 3: just gotta work hard, and I gotta make it undeniable.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Where was that? Okay you said that back then? Where
- 26:45Speaker 2: is it?
- 26:45Speaker 4: At?
- 26:46Speaker 2: What happened? And this was before this brother even got chosen.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Where's the undernovel work? Right?
- 26:55Speaker 3: So come on, man, like, yeah, so I was that
- 27:00Speaker 3: was all for you know, go ahead, tap him on
- 27:03Speaker 3: the chin, you know, see what you see what you.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Want to do like I got.
- 27:09Speaker 3: I got worked for you too, if you want. That's
- 27:12Speaker 3: how I took it. Some people might not, might not
- 27:15Speaker 3: look at it that way, you know what I mean.
- 27:17Speaker 3: But it was a little little warning like yo, you know, hey,
- 27:24Speaker 3: I thought I because the lines after I don't know
- 27:28Speaker 3: them exactly.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Oh okay, he said something about that turned me to
- 27:33Speaker 2: an Eskimo or something.
- 27:34Speaker 1: But go ahead, yeah whatever, all right, So used to
- 27:37Speaker 1: bump the car to three. I help my roly chain,
- 27:40Speaker 1: proud irony. I think my hard work let little Wayne
- 27:44Speaker 1: down whatever whatever, though called me crazy, everybody questionable, turned
- 27:50Speaker 1: me to an Eskimo. I drew the line in decimals.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I drew the line, turned me to an Eskimo.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Oh now I know where I stand. As far as.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Compete, you have now put yourself you You have identified
- 28:09Speaker 3: yourself as a clear competitor. Now like first it was
- 28:15Speaker 3: hey homage of course, I ain't gonna you know, be
- 28:18Speaker 3: whacked on the track and try and let nobody out
- 28:22Speaker 3: round me. But it's you know all I guess friendly
- 28:26Speaker 3: or respectful.
- 28:28Speaker 2: But now like yeah, draw the line, like yo, that's
- 28:32Speaker 2: that's how you feel, you just And the thing is
- 28:34Speaker 2: it goes.
- 28:35Speaker 4: In line with the theme whacked out murals, Like it's
- 28:40Speaker 4: an overall theme like they were doing that to your
- 28:43Speaker 4: toyo murals in LA. But it's like Wayne, you was
- 28:47Speaker 4: doing that at the same time, like you just gonna
- 28:50Speaker 4: ex out my legacy because you and your feelings about
- 28:54Speaker 4: you not getting picked, you just gonna overlook my work
- 28:58Speaker 4: and try to uh passive aggressively downplay me.
- 29:06Speaker 3: And it's like, yeah, Yo, that ain't that Ain't that
- 29:08Speaker 3: ain't right that it deserves retaliation. I just I you know,
- 29:16Speaker 3: it deserves some get back a response to something. Maybe
- 29:20Speaker 3: you ain't got straight up bomb on him, but it
- 29:24Speaker 3: on some.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Man like it needs to be addressed, like Yo, what
- 29:27Speaker 2: is what's that about? Right?
- 29:30Speaker 1: One dude on on some YouTube channel I think it
- 29:36Speaker 1: was in the comments, said well we know one thing,
- 29:41Speaker 1: k that wouldn't be bringing out Lil Wayne during that
- 29:44Speaker 1: time the super Bowl halftime show, which I thought you
- 29:48Speaker 1: would like, you know, it's all love nah, not Batman. Batman,
- 29:54Speaker 1: like what I got you on the hit list.
- 29:58Speaker 3: You go to continue book right on the prep book,
- 30:03Speaker 3: I got you you.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Right, some dreads out here I got I've got something for.
- 30:09Speaker 1: You right like next Phase. And look for those who
- 30:14Speaker 1: are watching who or listening, uh who, like you know,
- 30:20Speaker 1: don't really know the details. And you know, I wonder
- 30:24Speaker 1: why it's It's not like what we're displaying right now
- 30:28Speaker 1: isn't a Lil Wayne versus Kendrick just off of what
- 30:32Speaker 1: you prefer right, not a preference thing. It's what happened.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Kendrick was announced as the headliner for the super Bowl
- 30:40Speaker 1: halftime show that's happening in February of twenty twenty five.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Lil Wayne and Cash Money and many Fresh and all
- 30:51Speaker 1: these cats, the Master p all came out making videos,
- 30:57Speaker 1: tweeting all kinds of stuff saying that you know, Lil
- 31:01Speaker 1: Wayne was snubbed, and you know jay Z's trying to
- 31:05Speaker 1: get back and all these different things. Right, it was
- 31:08Speaker 1: really about, you know, Lil Wayne should have gotten it.
- 31:12Speaker 1: And then Lil Wayne puts out a sappy video like
- 31:16Speaker 1: he's like he's dehydrated because of the situation and saying,
- 31:21Speaker 1: you know, he worked hard, he worked his ass off
- 31:24Speaker 1: for which I was trying to say, like, what what
- 31:28Speaker 1: was that you didn't put an album out? I don't know.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Maybe it was a business thing, or maybe maybe he
- 31:36Speaker 1: worked hard on sobriety. I don't know. Maybe it's that
- 31:40Speaker 1: because the truth be told, right, we see what we see,
- 31:46Speaker 1: we know what we know as a businessman, which I
- 31:52Speaker 1: saw at the New Orleans little weezy.
- 31:55Speaker 2: And a thing.
- 31:58Speaker 1: You do not want to put some on stage if
- 32:02Speaker 1: you know there's some kind of pre existing thing there.
- 32:05Speaker 1: And there's footage as in Spess of situations where Lil
- 32:10Speaker 1: Wayne just look WrestleMania where he just didn't look like
- 32:17Speaker 1: even a litl Wayne that was dope on stage, forget
- 32:21Speaker 1: being better and stuff like that. So I wonder if
- 32:24Speaker 1: it was all not saying it's that, But I wonder
- 32:27Speaker 1: about things like that because nobody's ever going to say that.
- 32:31Speaker 1: But we know, we see everybody in the comment say it.
- 32:34Speaker 1: It's just on a business level, they're not going to
- 32:36Speaker 1: say it. And he looked it, But I just didn't
- 32:38Speaker 1: like the way he was saying, how he worked his
- 32:41Speaker 1: ass off, but there was nothing that us the fans
- 32:44Speaker 1: could see. We saw what Kendrick was doing. See what
- 32:47Speaker 1: he's doing now. It's perfect for the super Bowl. But
- 32:52Speaker 1: the other thing, ladies and gentlemen, is when he did
- 32:54Speaker 1: do the Little Louisiana Festival, he didn't look that great.
- 32:58Speaker 1: Performing wasn't a the world but it wasn't. That's not
- 33:02Speaker 1: something you want to see at the super Bowl. Has
- 33:04Speaker 1: to be clean and has to be like entertaining beyond
- 33:08Speaker 1: the songs, which is what Kendrick does. But also he
- 33:13Speaker 1: said it was taken from him, and he never congratulated
- 33:18Speaker 1: Kendrick in one instance. Nothing, He never really acknowledged it.
- 33:24Speaker 1: He just kind of went with the energy now now
- 33:27Speaker 1: and many fresh and all of them at least they
- 33:30Speaker 1: came up to the fence with some of it just
- 33:34Speaker 1: to acknowledge. But it was after the fact, after, you
- 33:37Speaker 1: you know, basically through fits. So for Kendrick to have
- 33:41Speaker 1: a line that says, I rocked with you, but you
- 33:47Speaker 1: don't want to acknowledge my work, and you want to
- 33:50Speaker 1: make it seem as if I took something from you,
- 33:52Speaker 1: so to speak, well, you know, sorry, sorry my hard work.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Let you damn you know what I'm saying. And he
- 34:00Speaker 1: also said won the Super Bowl, and Na's the only
- 34:04Speaker 1: one that congratulated me. All these niggas agitated. I'm just
- 34:10Speaker 1: glad they showed their faces. Quite frankly, plenty of artists,
- 34:14Speaker 1: but what he said, plenty of artists, but they outdated,
- 34:17Speaker 1: old ass flows, trying to convince me that you they favorite.
- 34:22Speaker 1: This is not for lyricists. I swear, it's not the
- 34:25Speaker 1: sentiments a double chandra. I want y'all to fill this
- 34:29Speaker 1: ish now. I remember that. Now. I didn't know Nas
- 34:35Speaker 1: was the only one, but I remember seeing NAS's posts.
- 34:40Speaker 1: What do you think about that? As far as you know,
- 34:44Speaker 1: the stuff he's saying about Lil Wayne the Super Bowl,
- 34:46Speaker 1: he addressing that, but also it felt like he was
- 34:50Speaker 1: taking it beyond Lil Wayne by saying Na's the only
- 34:54Speaker 1: one that really showed love. And then he's saying old
- 34:57Speaker 1: ass flows in outdated Who he talking about?
- 35:01Speaker 2: I thought he was talking about Wayne. I might be reaching.
- 35:05Speaker 3: I might be reaching, you know, but he might be
- 35:07Speaker 3: talking about anybody that was like complaining. He might be
- 35:10Speaker 3: talking about Mace, might be talking about Cam. He might
- 35:14Speaker 3: be talking about Judy, you know what I mean, like
- 35:18Speaker 3: all these the veterans, you know that again you would think.
- 35:26Speaker 2: You would you would think would be happy.
- 35:29Speaker 3: You know, like like like Biggie say, you know hip
- 35:33Speaker 3: hop that made it this fall, You would think it
- 35:36Speaker 3: would be that.
- 35:36Speaker 2: But nah, because it ain't the dude that.
- 35:42Speaker 3: I don't know, I guess the dude that you was
- 35:44Speaker 3: rooting for, you know, like, ah, then we're gonna do
- 35:49Speaker 3: this whole.
- 35:51Speaker 2: Again, passive aggressive.
- 35:53Speaker 3: And I mean to Cam, Cam said, I think he said,
- 35:56Speaker 3: you know, no disrespect or whatever, but it should have
- 35:58Speaker 3: been Wayne.
- 35:59Speaker 2: But it's like, yo, man.
- 36:04Speaker 3: I just I vehemently disagree with that.
- 36:08Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying, because Joe, this ain't no gimmes.
- 36:12Speaker 2: It's no gimmes in this. You know, it's no gimmes's business.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Where is the work right now? The work right now?
- 36:22Speaker 3: And then okay, you can you can look to older
- 36:24Speaker 3: Super Bowls and you can say, well, Prince didn't have
- 36:27Speaker 3: anything at the time, but look what he did when
- 36:31Speaker 3: he actually went on at So it's just nothing was questionable.
- 36:35Speaker 2: But if we look at and we you know.
- 36:38Speaker 3: I don't want to keep this about Wayne, but if
- 36:40Speaker 3: we look at Wayne's recent work, it's questionable. So how
- 36:45Speaker 3: do you just think, oh, yeah, you ain't give it
- 36:47Speaker 3: to Wayne?
- 36:49Speaker 2: No, we didn't. Why should we because of twenty twenty
- 36:55Speaker 2: years ago? You know, like as a.
- 36:59Speaker 3: Perform like show me point to something that should say yeah, absolutely,
- 37:05Speaker 3: you know, like he gonna get on it and he
- 37:07Speaker 3: gonna give a great performance. Show me that in the
- 37:12Speaker 3: last three years. Like if you can't show me that,
- 37:14Speaker 3: then what are you talking about? Like it could it
- 37:18Speaker 3: could be a liability now right right? You brought up
- 37:22Speaker 3: a good point, like you know, work hard, I got
- 37:25Speaker 3: sober up and clean up.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I mean he got the hits to do the Super Bowl?
- 37:33Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, let's yeah, let me he has
- 37:38Speaker 3: the hits to do it right.
- 37:40Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 37:40Speaker 3: He can even clean it up even though those hits
- 37:44Speaker 3: could be questionable as far as like the subject matter,
- 37:47Speaker 3: he has enough and where he can clean it up
- 37:50Speaker 3: at it himself. But that's the thing, like when we
- 37:54Speaker 3: talk about work as an MC as a performer.
- 37:57Speaker 2: Can you do that right? And I think the answer
- 38:01Speaker 2: is no.
- 38:02Speaker 3: I think you're just gonna get up there and do
- 38:04Speaker 3: you like what we've seen you do and these other performances.
- 38:10Speaker 2: But we've seen this dude right here, I mean.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Mid mid verse, you know, stumble but get like a
- 38:20Speaker 3: freestyle just that he could get back on point to
- 38:24Speaker 3: continue the rest of the song, you know what I'm saying.
- 38:28Speaker 3: And yeah, like as people that are like maybe like
- 38:32Speaker 3: EMC's or used to rap, you can tell that, oh yeah,
- 38:35Speaker 3: he flubbed that a little bit, but he got back on.
- 38:39Speaker 3: But like to the uninitiated, to people that ain't looking
- 38:43Speaker 3: into it that deep, they probably they are, yo.
- 38:45Speaker 2: He just he gave like an a scoopsive bar that
- 38:48Speaker 2: we never seen before, like we never heard before.
- 38:52Speaker 3: And it's like, yeah, that's like shown enough true MCing
- 38:56Speaker 3: performing you know, and yeah, Wayne within the past three years,
- 39:04Speaker 3: come on, man, it's just.
- 39:05Speaker 2: It's it's ridiculous.
- 39:09Speaker 3: I think the way that the brother handled it on
- 39:13Speaker 3: whacked out Murals is uh, it was a good way,
- 39:17Speaker 3: a great way to handle it.
- 39:18Speaker 2: And it's it's other layers to this, like.
- 39:24Speaker 3: I don't know if it's just me if I'm reaching,
- 39:26Speaker 3: but even with that beat, it's like and throughout the album,
- 39:31Speaker 3: because we we we talked about this, so you you
- 39:33Speaker 3: pointed this out. There is a an air of homage too,
- 39:41Speaker 3: of paying homage throughout this album, and I thought, even
- 39:45Speaker 3: on this whacked out murals, this was at the beat,
- 39:51Speaker 3: the baseline sounds like friends. M dude, it's slower. You know,
- 39:59Speaker 3: it sounds I was like friends, which was used by
- 40:04Speaker 3: Houdini friends. That's what I'm referring to audience.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Bordini friends. How many of us have the friends?
- 40:13Speaker 3: And then Nas used it if I ruled the world, dude.
- 40:19Speaker 3: And then also as a bonus. I don't think this
- 40:22Speaker 3: was official anywhere. I think this was only like freestyles
- 40:25Speaker 3: and mixtapes Tupac Troublesome, Trouble the Troublesome.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Like so, but this was like slower. So I don't know.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Maybe I'm looking into it too deep. Maybe my hip
- 40:42Speaker 2: hop crates is too deep for people.
- 40:45Speaker 3: But I'm like, yo, all that was like within this,
- 40:49Speaker 3: within this track, and then you're just bombing out. And
- 40:51Speaker 3: then he mentioned like, yo, Na's the only one that
- 40:55Speaker 3: showed me love.
- 40:55Speaker 2: And then later on.
- 40:56Speaker 3: You hear.
- 41:01Speaker 1: We were gonna get you. There's a couple of instances
- 41:04Speaker 1: of that that, you know, like I said, didn't stand out,
- 41:09Speaker 1: but the more you listen, you're like, is he doing
- 41:12Speaker 1: what I think he's doing? Like on another layer, and
- 41:16Speaker 1: then it makes you want to look at those records
- 41:20Speaker 1: and how it connects to the overall picture head because
- 41:25Speaker 1: you know, he didn't just have smoke for for a
- 41:28Speaker 1: little Wayne and I felt the need that we needed
- 41:30Speaker 1: to really talk about it, because this is Kendrick Lamar's
- 41:34Speaker 1: response to a number of things that happened where he
- 41:39Speaker 1: didn't say nothing the entire time. All these people, you know,
- 41:44Speaker 1: old Wayne should have got blah blah blah. So even
- 41:47Speaker 1: though he had addressed it in a couple of lines,
- 41:51Speaker 1: we need to talk about it. But also the last
- 41:53Speaker 1: thing he addressed before we move on, Snoop, Now, I
- 41:57Speaker 1: didn't hear this the first time He's said. In the
- 42:00Speaker 1: same song Snoop posted Tailor Made, which was Drake's disc
- 42:06Speaker 1: record that eventually was pulled because of Tupac's state, where
- 42:11Speaker 1: Drake used an a well, he used Tupac's voice on Ai.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Snoop's voice using AI to have them wrap their disappointment
- 42:22Speaker 1: for Kendrick. Now, just morally, Tupac is not here, Why
- 42:28Speaker 1: are you doing that in a battle? You're telling the
- 42:32Speaker 1: people this would Tupaca think I get what you were doing,
- 42:35Speaker 1: But there was another way to do that. But his
- 42:38Speaker 1: Kendrick's response to that, because he never responded to it
- 42:41Speaker 1: in this way all those songs except for it in
- 42:45Speaker 1: My Battlings whatever or AI. But he said, Snoop posted
- 42:49Speaker 1: tailor maid. I prayed it was the Edibles. I couldn't
- 42:52Speaker 1: believe it. It was only right for me to let
- 42:54Speaker 1: it go. Now at the same time he's saying no
- 42:59Speaker 1: big him, he's also saying I was just hoping he
- 43:05Speaker 1: was high, because why why why Snoop he put the
- 43:09Speaker 1: chain around my neck? I was crying on stage they
- 43:14Speaker 1: passed the touch Why would he co sign of all
- 43:19Speaker 1: records on Drake's side this one? You know what I'm saying,
- 43:23Speaker 1: But he said he still let it go. But also
- 43:27Speaker 1: because you know the Internet, at the comments sections the timelines,
- 43:31Speaker 1: they're like, oh, that's why Snoop wasn't at the pop out.
- 43:36Speaker 1: They was like, oh who had the door? Oh was
- 43:38Speaker 1: Drake and Snoop?
- 43:39Speaker 2: Drake, uh well was on Snoop was on tour.
- 43:48Speaker 3: But you know he responded though, he responded, yeah, he
- 43:54Speaker 3: said you said it was that.
- 43:56Speaker 2: He's like yo. He's like He's like yo, it was aible.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Look Snoop's a grown man. And plus that song him
- 44:08Speaker 1: and Dre got all right down bananas.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Yeah you put me on that that joint. That joint
- 44:15Speaker 3: is crazy.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Crazy, but perfect answer, you know what I'm saying for
- 44:21Speaker 1: a situation like this, because he de escalates anybody who
- 44:24Speaker 1: wants to go and take that and ball it up
- 44:27Speaker 1: and create it into something else.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Uh.
- 44:30Speaker 2: Like what I read on the.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Timeline, like, oh well that's why as it wasn't at
- 44:33Speaker 1: the problem, but a hell of a way to start
- 44:37Speaker 1: the album, to address right up front everything I wanted
- 44:41Speaker 1: to know, what I thought about such and such?
- 44:43Speaker 2: Are you go? Uh?
- 44:45Speaker 1: And then it gets into Squabble Up, which I thought
- 44:47Speaker 1: was really dope because after you get the listeners reeling
- 44:51Speaker 1: from you know, what some would call a disrecord, but
- 44:55Speaker 1: I feel more like this this is a little bit
- 44:57Speaker 1: different than a disrecord. M you give them the reminder
- 45:01Speaker 1: of the snippet that was there before, not like us
- 45:04Speaker 1: for Squabble Up, which we talked about. Then you hit
- 45:07Speaker 1: the third track Luther.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Now.
- 45:11Speaker 1: I love the way they use Luthor's singing in this
- 45:16Speaker 1: because it felt seamless and almost even though I know
- 45:20Speaker 1: the song, it felt like he was he was brought in,
- 45:25Speaker 1: you know, and rest in peace. Luther Evangels is not
- 45:27Speaker 1: alive y'all. But it felt like it wasn't just plucked
- 45:33Speaker 1: from a song. It felt like a natural part of
- 45:36Speaker 1: this record. And I believe Sissu's singing on this record.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it sounded like it. Yeah, but you know,
- 45:45Speaker 1: a very dope record and a change of pace, you know,
- 45:48Speaker 1: as far as the album, the sound, even if you
- 45:53Speaker 1: want to say radio play, you know, kind of opened
- 45:56Speaker 1: it up for that as well. Go back to some
- 46:01Speaker 1: of the reception behind mister Morale and the Big Steppers.
- 46:05Speaker 1: You know, they they're just people who just want, you know,
- 46:08Speaker 1: that new thing to get dressed to before they go out,
- 46:11Speaker 1: or the joint in the car. You know, they don't
- 46:13Speaker 1: really want to talk about the inner feelings and stuff
- 46:17Speaker 1: like that. But here's Kendrick giving them that. Now, let's
- 46:21Speaker 1: just get into the other song though, Man in the Garden,
- 46:25Speaker 1: I made me go back because I was just going
- 46:28Speaker 1: through the album and I was like, Yo, that third verse,
- 46:32Speaker 1: Man in the Garden, Man at the Garden, I'm sorry,
- 46:36Speaker 1: I what are your thoughts on this? On this track
- 46:39Speaker 1: in general, and you know, in that third verse specifically.
- 46:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Man, that was.
- 46:47Speaker 3: You know, that was like the paying homage to to
- 46:50Speaker 3: to nas Man the one mic and then you know
- 46:57Speaker 3: that whole dark at the end of you know how
- 47:02Speaker 3: you think you deserve to be called the greatest? I
- 47:05Speaker 3: think that's the line, and.
- 47:08Speaker 2: He ends it on that.
- 47:11Speaker 3: On that line, so it's like he paying homage to
- 47:16Speaker 3: one of the greats with knaves and then at the
- 47:19Speaker 3: same time he's thinking his claim like yo, I deserve.
- 47:24Speaker 2: I'm in that conversation too.
- 47:27Speaker 3: And then we can't forget these other dudes like, yo,
- 47:31Speaker 3: how you even think you like?
- 47:34Speaker 4: Yo?
- 47:34Speaker 2: How do they even think they could deserve? They ain't
- 47:38Speaker 2: rapping like this.
- 47:39Speaker 3: It's it's like again, it's layers, like yo, you you
- 47:44Speaker 3: hear her, I'm rapping and if you you know know
- 47:48Speaker 3: your hip hop, you know what this is influenced by,
- 47:53Speaker 3: you know, one of the greats, and you know how
- 47:55Speaker 3: he kicked it off right, and so I'm right in
- 47:58Speaker 3: line with that.
- 47:59Speaker 2: I'm locked step with that.
- 48:01Speaker 3: How are you even gonna even think about these other
- 48:04Speaker 3: dude like are you are you serious? Like and it's
- 48:08Speaker 3: crazy like I've seen a take. I've seen a take,
- 48:12Speaker 3: and I just I just have to mention it. But
- 48:15Speaker 3: that was one of the negatives. That was I guess
- 48:19Speaker 3: one of the complaints about the album, like people were.
- 48:23Speaker 2: Saying, you know, things were derivative, and yo, I don't.
- 48:28Speaker 2: I don't know how I really feel about that.
- 48:30Speaker 3: That he that he did that, you know, like that's
- 48:35Speaker 3: nas one mic so now okay, oh you're gonna do it.
- 48:39Speaker 2: And it's like.
- 48:42Speaker 3: I just my initial thoat was like, yo's hip hop,
- 48:45Speaker 3: Like I get what he's doing.
- 48:47Speaker 2: And then in the first song he shouted him out,
- 48:51Speaker 2: Like did we not just hear him shoot shout him out?
- 48:54Speaker 3: So you know, I don't want to get in other
- 48:59Speaker 3: people's takes and all of that, but it's like, what,
- 49:01Speaker 3: I don't understand what people be with listening?
- 49:03Speaker 2: What is this? Like what what what are people doing?
- 49:08Speaker 2: Like denias like, oh, that's that's derivative.
- 49:11Speaker 3: I don't really know how I feel about that.
- 49:14Speaker 2: That that the s w V. You don't you gonna
- 49:17Speaker 2: use that?
- 49:18Speaker 3: It's like you got so many resources at your disposal,
- 49:21Speaker 3: why would you do that?
- 49:22Speaker 2: I would think you would do something do something else? Why?
- 49:25Speaker 2: But it's like, yo, we this is a hip hop
- 49:27Speaker 2: we sample what is going on here? What is what
- 49:32Speaker 2: is it?
- 49:32Speaker 3: And needs be like intellectual dudes like or supposed to
- 49:37Speaker 3: be hip hop intellectuals, and it's like, what is this,
- 49:40Speaker 3: Like I don't want to I don't understand, Like I
- 49:44Speaker 3: get it with style, like if you don't like style stylistically,
- 49:49Speaker 3: but some of these things are like hip hop things.
- 49:52Speaker 2: This is very hip hop. It's it's very very hip hop.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Like yo, I'm I'm rapping.
- 49:59Speaker 3: I'm getting even my compassion as far as my delivery.
- 50:04Speaker 3: What I'm talking about is being one of the greats
- 50:08Speaker 3: and I'm explaining you or arguing my case why I
- 50:13Speaker 3: deserve to be in that spot. And sure, did I
- 50:17Speaker 3: borrow from NAS for this particular song? Sure, yeah, but
- 50:24Speaker 3: again I just shot yo, this was the only dude
- 50:27Speaker 3: that gave me my props for where I'm at today
- 50:30Speaker 3: or as far as my next moves.
- 50:33Speaker 2: So how is that like out of bounds?
- 50:36Speaker 1: Like you know, yeah, I might have just derailed dot
- 50:41Speaker 1: comvo with that, but nah, I get it because it's
- 50:46Speaker 1: a deeper conversation when it comes to like all these
- 50:51Speaker 1: reactions and all the content creators that go online that
- 50:54Speaker 1: react live and like I said earlier, people who are
- 50:58Speaker 1: listening and tweeting while they're listening, and it's there's a
- 51:03Speaker 1: culture of at least was trying to be the first
- 51:08Speaker 1: to respond or to point out something that everybody else
- 51:12Speaker 1: didn't catch right to critique it in the way as
- 51:16Speaker 1: if you would would have because you make beats so
- 51:20Speaker 1: you understand music. There was a better way to do that,
- 51:25Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying than that way. And it
- 51:28Speaker 1: seems stupid because Kendrick doesn't do anything in one song.
- 51:34Speaker 1: It's all tied together. It's all it's always all tied together.
- 51:40Speaker 1: Like he said, he makes a point to say nas
- 51:44Speaker 1: was the only one who shouted me out, and I
- 51:47Speaker 1: saw somebody says one dude, because he was shooting from
- 51:52Speaker 1: the hip responded, I mean reacting to this album saying like, yeah,
- 51:57Speaker 1: we ain't say jay Z. But the thing is like
- 52:00Speaker 1: jay Z already congratulated him for the super Bowl.
- 52:03Speaker 2: Yeah that was the that was the statement. The statement
- 52:06Speaker 2: got released, right.
- 52:08Speaker 1: But again, he's a part of the process. So when
- 52:11Speaker 1: they when they brought k out in yo blah blah
- 52:14Speaker 1: blah blahh Hova's apart. Either he's in the room or
- 52:19Speaker 1: he makes the call. We already know jay Z has
- 52:22Speaker 1: signed off because Kendrick's going to be on the stage.
- 52:26Speaker 1: So it just seems it just seemed weird for this
- 52:29Speaker 1: dude who I was watching to shoot from the hit
- 52:33Speaker 1: without realizing, like jay Z has the deal to do
- 52:37Speaker 1: these things.
- 52:38Speaker 2: So he wants to.
- 52:39Speaker 3: He wants the album liner, he wants to oh yo,
- 52:42Speaker 3: and don't forget jay Z, like, yo, you don't want to,
- 52:44Speaker 3: Like hell, come on yo.
- 52:46Speaker 1: No, no, we weren't even thinking about it. He's thinking like,
- 52:50Speaker 1: you know, well, hey, Doc could be saying something about
- 52:54Speaker 1: jay Z because he didn't congratulate Kendrick. And it's like,
- 52:59Speaker 1: but he's a of the deal making. Yeah, So I'm
- 53:05Speaker 1: kind of I kind of just feel like when it
- 53:07Speaker 1: comes to online, I'm just used to people not paying
- 53:09Speaker 1: attention and then getting upset because they don't get it.
- 53:15Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying When you tell them, yo,
- 53:17Speaker 1: it's because it seems so simple to get once somebody
- 53:20Speaker 1: points it out to you. But now you're mad because
- 53:22Speaker 1: you didn't catch it because you're the guru. But here's
- 53:26Speaker 1: some of the lyrics from the third verse. I feel
- 53:30Speaker 1: like I just started at the top just because it's
- 53:32Speaker 1: so connected. But well, it's pretty quick. Put a smile
- 53:36Speaker 1: on my mom. This is Oh, let's just say this
- 53:39Speaker 1: man at the garden for those who don't know. Put
- 53:43Speaker 1: a smile on my mama. Good health and good calma. Yeah,
- 53:46Speaker 1: she deserves it all. One hundred mirrors out and Compton.
- 53:49Speaker 2: Remember me.
- 53:50Speaker 1: I kept my promise. Yeah, we deserve it all. A
- 53:54Speaker 1: better life than my daughter made, my son take it
- 53:56Speaker 1: further than his father. Yeah, he deserves it all. A
- 54:00Speaker 1: close relationship with God. Whisper to every whisper to me.
- 54:03Speaker 1: Every time I close my eyes, he say, you deserve
- 54:06Speaker 1: it all. Keep these bitch niggas away from me, keep
- 54:10Speaker 1: all my blessings faithfully, keep my essence contagious. That's okay
- 54:14Speaker 1: with me. I burn this bitch down. Don't you play
- 54:17Speaker 1: with me, or stay with me, or stay with me.
- 54:21Speaker 1: I'm crashing out right now. No one's safe with me.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I did it with integrity, and niggas still try to
- 54:28Speaker 1: hate on me. Just wait and see. Now here's the
- 54:31Speaker 1: part that I was talking about, the ending. More blood
- 54:36Speaker 1: be spilling is just paint to me, dangerously, nothing changed
- 54:40Speaker 1: with me. Still got pain in me. Flip a coin.
- 54:44Speaker 1: Want the shameless meat or the fameless famous me? How
- 54:48Speaker 1: annoying does it anger me to know that names can
- 54:53Speaker 1: speak on the origins of the game I breathe. That's
- 54:56Speaker 1: insane to me. It's important. I deserve it, though, because
- 55:00Speaker 1: it's mine. Tell me why you think you deserve the
- 55:03Speaker 1: greatest of all time, motherfucker, I'm saying. Man, when you read,
- 55:14Speaker 1: when you read it, you know what I'm saying, Like you,
- 55:18Speaker 1: you're not caught up in the beat, and you're not
- 55:20Speaker 1: caught up in a flow, and you don't have to
- 55:22Speaker 1: hit rewind. You can go to genius because that's why
- 55:24Speaker 1: right now you can read it and just that ending
- 55:29Speaker 1: says a lot. There's a lot you can pour into
- 55:32Speaker 1: that from what you already know. And you're mad about
- 55:38Speaker 1: the sample. Use your heart and not your mind, like
- 55:47Speaker 1: it's the layers. It's not about oh that was a hit,
- 55:50Speaker 1: I'm gonna use it. It's always the layer. As soon
- 55:53Speaker 1: as you say use your heart, my bad, that's for
- 55:57Speaker 1: the heart part, sax. But again, use your heart, not
- 56:00Speaker 1: your mind. It still connects. I thought you meant right.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Listening to this with listening, it's still a connects.
- 56:08Speaker 1: But this being like one mic for the same some
- 56:12Speaker 1: of the same reasons, some of the same themes that
- 56:15Speaker 1: Nas had in his song. This is basically it. But
- 56:19Speaker 1: what people got to get used to, especially the old heads.
- 56:23Speaker 1: We came up using records and samples and stuff like
- 56:27Speaker 1: that of a time before us, and that generation bought
- 56:32Speaker 1: that hip hop because they like, make your own I'm
- 56:35Speaker 1: a musician. Make Prince was like that, you know, make
- 56:38Speaker 1: the sound from scratch. Don't go and just take my
- 56:42Speaker 1: joint and chop it up, and says you We do
- 56:45Speaker 1: the same thing. We guarden you know, we guarded our
- 56:48Speaker 1: music saying you can't use it and it's not creative
- 56:52Speaker 1: when all of it is a sample of a sample
- 56:54Speaker 1: of a sample of a sample of a inspiration of
- 56:57Speaker 1: an inspiration of an inspiration. And Nazis one mic came
- 57:02Speaker 1: out in two thousand and one. How long does it
- 57:05Speaker 1: have to be before anybody can reference some of these things,
- 57:11Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? So again with you know,
- 57:15Speaker 1: when you messing with Kendrick in a lot of ways,
- 57:18Speaker 1: you could spend a lot of time dissecting song by song. Well,
- 57:22Speaker 1: we kind of wanted to point out those themes, especially
- 57:25Speaker 1: the theme of that I said of paying homage, right,
- 57:29Speaker 1: Like the first one is about friends and people. He
- 57:33Speaker 1: thought it was cool and mentors and all that good stuff.
- 57:37Speaker 1: And that's layer that's not in your face. The track
- 57:40Speaker 1: and called Friends is not the same beat. It's slowed down.
- 57:44Speaker 1: But heads are like, wait a minute, how many others?
- 57:50Speaker 2: Yo?
- 57:50Speaker 1: That's such a such you know what I'm saying? I
- 57:54Speaker 1: want a man at the garden. I was like, Yo,
- 57:57Speaker 1: this is one mic, so let's get into the other
- 58:02Speaker 1: song where I was like nah. This is when I
- 58:04Speaker 1: was like, nah.
- 58:06Speaker 2: He's rhyming like.
- 58:10Speaker 3: Over the over the coat, over the cock beat.
- 58:14Speaker 1: You know, yeah, who else used them conds of sounds
- 58:20Speaker 1: nahs back in them days? Like in the in the
- 58:23Speaker 1: ninety six You know what I'm saying, what's the joint?
- 58:27Speaker 1: I don't know if it made the album. Maybe not
- 58:29Speaker 1: ninety six. Maybe I am money is my bitch, you
- 58:34Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like the straight vacation sounds and ship.
- 58:40Speaker 3: Vacation guitars where you go get the coconut and destroying it,
- 58:45Speaker 3: you sit down with the wine shirt.
- 58:48Speaker 1: But the song is called Reincarnated. Now when you hear reincarnated,
- 58:54Speaker 1: obviously there is the beat like as we mentioned, and
- 58:58Speaker 1: the flow and and it's that reminds you of part.
- 59:02Speaker 1: But he's saying a lot in this record, what did
- 59:04Speaker 1: you think about this song.
- 59:05Speaker 5: Yeah, I gotta go back and listen. I still got
- 59:08Speaker 5: I still gotta go back and listen. I'm gone off
- 59:11Speaker 5: of the flow and the beat, and I'm trying to
- 59:17Speaker 5: I know, he's rapping from the perspective of different different characters,
- 59:23Speaker 5: and yeah, like, you know, I guess some.
- 59:28Speaker 3: Of these these other vloggers, they're a little I guess
- 59:31Speaker 3: faster than me, but they're saying, like, yo, he rapping
- 59:35Speaker 3: from the perspective of God towards the end, and he
- 59:39Speaker 3: talking to the devil, And I'm like, what, Like, I
- 59:41Speaker 3: didn't even I didn't even hear that. I just heard
- 59:44Speaker 3: junkies and stuff in the beginning. I'm like, well, who's
- 59:47Speaker 3: this dope thing that he talking about. I'm still trying
- 59:51Speaker 3: to pick it apart, like, well, who's that.
- 59:53Speaker 2: I'm thinking.
- 59:56Speaker 3: He's because he's done something similar on other songs before,
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: where he's rapped from the perspective of some someone else.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: So I'm thinking, like, yo, this is like is he
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: talking about Billie.
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: Holiday in the second verse?
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: Like you know, that's that's what I thought, you know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: But you know, other folks are saying, nah, like it's
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: the devil, you know, And I guess the Devil got
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: into those first two on the first verse and then
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: on the on the second. On the third versus God
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: and Devil talking talking to yo, I gotta go back
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: and listen.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: Like it's it's it's bugged out.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: That's a bugged out, bugged out track, the delivery, the beat,
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: all of that is hot and all.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: Of that is sharp.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: But when we talk about the layers, I really gotta
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: go back and listen to really pick it apart for
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: me to get that aha moment, because I didn't get
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: that immediately.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Did you get you? Did you get it?
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: Nah?
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Man? Off the first break, I knew he was doing something,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: but I wasn't catching everything. But I wasn't gonna like
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: constantly rewind songs because I figured, you know, i'd be
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: running it back. But then when I went back on
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: further listens, then I got the God and the demonside
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: of it. Oh what I what I knew I was
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: missing initially that I you know, I didn't necessarily hear
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: in the beginning, but I'm like, it's called reincarnated, so
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: I'm missing who he's describing in these verses. So when
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: I went back, that's when I heard, like the Billie
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Holiday stuff where I was like, oh, this is this
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: is Billy Holiday, right, the drug habits, vocalists, Chicken circuit, right,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: black woman. I'll read some of it for people. Another
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: life had placed me as a black woman in the
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Chitlin circuit, seductor vocalist, as the promoter hit the curtains.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: My voice was angelic, straight from heaven. The crowd sobbed
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: a musical genius. What the articles emphasized had everything I wanted,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: but I couldn't escape addiction. Heroin needles had me in
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: fetal position, restricted, turned on my family. I went with
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: wherever cameras be cocaine, no private planes for my insanity.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: So open those discipline, never mind sentiments. I need drugs
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: to me and eight Ball was the penicillin. I'm not
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: gonna read all of it, but at the end of
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: the day, it's it's clearly Billy Holiday or he's has
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to be Billy Holly now because the Chitlin circuit, it's.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Like Billy Holliday.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, Whitney kind of some of the other stuff.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: But maybe that's the whole thing of reincarnated. That shit
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: keep coming back. That's that's the theme.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: Like when you read the lyrics, because the first starts
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: with my present life is Kendrick Lamar. So it's almost
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: like it's this soul that's jumping bodies, you know, in
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the first second and then the third verse, but with Kendrick,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: it's more of a battle and it's more discovery of
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: what's going on. But you know what else they made
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: me think of it. I don't think he going this
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: deep because I don't remember any references towards it, towards it,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: because he's just talking about being reincarnated into these different bodies.
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: But it's a lot like the show from the I
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: think late eighties, early nineties. Yeah, like you know, like
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: taking that because for those who don't know quantum Leep,
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: you know this one doctor and this other scientist from
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: the future or jumping in, Well, he was jumping in
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the bodies of people from the past to change things.
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: The only way he can jump to hopefully jump home,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: but to jump to the next person, was to try
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: to change something for the better within a person. You
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: know what I'm saying now, He could never fail, right
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: because then you know you're dead or lobotomynes, whatever. But
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: in this case, this is more so it almost feels
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: like someone who's talented but haunted by demons at the
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: same time, and Kendricks said that a lot lately about himself,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So when I heard it,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: like you said, initially, I didn't catch all of this,
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: but now I'm like, wow, you mean to tell me
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: I might have to just sit with a song and
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: just wait till like, okay, okay, okay, I got it all,
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, and didn't move on to
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: the next one.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: Right, didn't.
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: We have a conversation like, Yo, this is what it
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: was like, right right, Like know everything we said was wrong?
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: He was talking about this, You're like, what like.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Crazy one of the other tracks I want to talk
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: about man TV off. When this came on, I was like,
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: not like us, like it. It literally felt like DJ
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: Mustard said, I'm just gonna remix not like Us, and
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: We're going to do a version that's not focused on him.
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: But there are parts of the lyrics that you can
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: tie to that dude and somebody else and whoever else
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: you want to. I've seen a lot of talk, a
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: lot of people loving this record. When you heard TV off,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: what was your thoughts?
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I was just thinking, like, Okay, he got it,
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: he got another one, he got it, he got another one,
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: and then the whole Mustard yelling Mustard.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, he want.
- 1:06:00Speaker 3: To make sure Mustard gets his just dude, you know
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: what I mean?
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Which is which is cool?
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: Like that's that's dope, Like you you're not gonna forget
- 1:06:11Speaker 3: his name, like he is not he is stapled and.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: Hip hop. For sure, he was in there, but now
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: yeah he's yeah, he's really in there now. Yeah. Man,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: I just thought I thought.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: It was a dope, dope track, you know, again West Coast,
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: but just upbeat.
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: I like what he did with the horns. I'm like, yo,
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: are they attempting to get something together and ready for
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: the super Bowl? Like are you gonna? Are you You're
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: gonna do this at the super Bowl?
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: Because I think in this in this track, he's talking
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: about New Orleans in this track, So I just I.
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: Thought it was dope. You know what I mean?
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: You're right because I felt the same way when he
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: said the end of the last line of the song
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: says walk in New Orleans with the etiquette of l
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: a yelling, and then he you know, hits the mustard
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: but I get the feeling he's gonna say Mustard like
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: that on stage, and then you're gonna hear the white
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: because you know, ain't nothing about white people with a
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Super Bowl anyway, They're just gonna be like, hey, hey,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: Mustard on the beat, like oh like, oh no, obviously
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I'm joking, but you just don't know what it could happen,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, It could. And you know
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: what made me think about that was when I heard
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: this record, I wondered, Okay, maybe this is the you know,
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: it's not not Like Us. It has a very similar
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: vibe to not Like Us. And it's, like you said,
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Mustard's out front, because even even with Kendrick's lyrics on
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: not Like Us being so catchy the way it starts,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: it's catchy to people who didn't even hear Mustards dropped before,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, because it's how the song
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: kicks off. And I thought like, well, maybe they can't
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: do not Like Us, or they don't want to do
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: not Like Us because of how long ago, but they
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: could do something that kind of gives you that vibe.
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: But was probably more interesting was how he started the
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: third verse ain't no other kings in this rap thing.
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: They siblings, nothing but my children. One shot for those
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: who don't know that, Biggie bars from kicking the door.
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: Not Tori's b ig Now we just said it, big
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: nas pack the Houdini in there too. That's kind of
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: like a statement is feeling like would have been if
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: he wasn't off the edibles, he might have snu But
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: it's a statement of I'm a part of this realm
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: of mcs in this game, you know. Oh, and I
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: just found it was I just found it kind of
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: crazy that he was. It caught me off guard to
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: hear that, because the god.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Did not expect that.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, I say how he followed it up right?
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: He ain't no other kings in this rap thing, the siblings,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: nothing but my children. In one shot, it disappearing, I'm
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: in the city with a flag be getting thrown like
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: it was my past interference.
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: I don't, I don't, man, I don't know.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Man like, Yo, I got it in the thing. Yo,
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: leave yo alone. Yo, leave him alone. Yeah, leo alone,
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: man like? And he say on the other joint, like, yo,
- 1:10:01Speaker 3: we can do you wanna flip the coin which ones
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: you want which one you want, like.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: The Shameless Meat or the famous me Yeah.
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: Because Yo, he about rapping. Yo, He's about rapping yo.
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: I think I think this.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Album definitely makes that clear.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: If if people didn't understand it before, I hope they
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: get it now. He's about rapping. He's about his West Coast,
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: you know what I mean. It's not just weird voices.
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: He got that.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: He got that too, you know what I mean. But
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: it ain't just that like he's he's about rapping that.
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: I think this is like for those people who didn't
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: see the like the Lil Wayne.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: Uh the video when he's Yo, Lil Wayne, you.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: Can't quit and he's just like in the studio just
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: saying Lil Wayne versus and stuff like he's got some
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: of that energy on hered but lo Wayne, but it
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: ain't for you no more like you know what, let
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: me get back to the to the to the legends
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: then like since you just show yeah, okay, that's cool,
- 1:11:21Speaker 3: you know, like like du like hip hop revolves around
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: you or something like yo, you not you are not
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: my only influence.
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Like Okay, it's.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Crazy man, It's it's it's wild, yo, it's a it's
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: a wild conversation having to think about and you know,
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: I don't I don't know jealousy, I don't know, insecurities, complexes,
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: but it's it's interesting to think about. And again, I
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: just commend YO for just staying on your square and
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: do work.
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: Man, just you your work. You know.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know what, Like, I'm glad you said
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: that because I think, like, you know, obviously, we decided
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: to do this as a reaction and kind of like
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: a review of this album, mainly because of, you know,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: everything that's transpired this whole year with hip hop, but
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: Kendrick Lamar specifically.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: And to.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Like, I don't want to stay cold because I don't
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: necessarily know the quote, but Kendrick has been very clear
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: in the battle, starting with not Like Us and throughout
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: this album that he does not care anymore. I don't care,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: Like if I'm in the crib, I'm quiet. You know,
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: y'all may not like that I'm not outside a lot,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: but at the end of the day, this is what
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: I do and if y'all want to do something, do it.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Y'all wanted me outside, now I'm out head. This is
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: how I'm outside, and I think it's just you know,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: it's tough to talk around it when you're talking about
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: his music because it's just it's just embedded in what
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: he's saying. And he's basically when they say, when somebody
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: tells you who they are, believe him. It's like, we
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: can't not talk about how he's feeling about Liuayne and
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: how he may have felt about Drake and that other guy.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about real quick, because this is supposed
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: to be a good week for him.
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: His whole rollout is like.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: Side show, like I don't forgot, like, oh yeah, that's
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: on streaming services.
- 1:13:43Speaker 2: Now, yeah, damn.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: The last one I wanted to mention though, just so
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: we not like falling down on every song. It's the
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: final song Gloria. Now, at first, I ain't gonna front.
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: I got caught like doing something else while I was listening,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: and I'm you know, I'll go to look at the
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: track and I'm like, oh, you know, it's like a
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: story with a shorty and blah blah blah. And then
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: at the end he says, in his own way, ain't
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: no bitch like my bitch because that bitch been my
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: pen And I'm like, well, wait a minute, because you know,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I'm here and everything else, and I'm like, oh wait,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: So I rewind back and the first line is me
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: and my bitch got a complicated relationship. And then everything
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: he said I started to think about his pen. Everything
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: was a metaphor for his pen on a song that
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: I thought it was about somebody knew, like, oh, maybe
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: telling story you know about somebody new around the way.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: Let me listen. Nah, he keeping it hip hop again.
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: It's the It's.
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: Let me just read a little bit, just so people
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: get a sense. Me and my bitch got a complicated relationship.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: She's so controlling. I noticed it ain't no playing with
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: I met her when I was off the porch as
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: a teenager, which most mosts, you know, that's when they start.
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: She said.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: One day I would write my wrongs and see paper.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Hold up, No, he didn't sit right, my right, because
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: the way it's spelled.
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: Whatever.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: We started out young, looking for some identity, made a
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: thousand mistakes, but never did we lack chemistry. Wrapping my
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: hand around your waist, that was back when you did
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: whatever I say, dreams of selling narcotics, running blocks or
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Robert Banks. I was in love with you, didn't know
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: what it was with you kiss you in back of
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: the classish you in the back of it? Yo, If
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: y'all I ain't never like again, I know there's some
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: people be like yo, these k bots were going crazy
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: over nothing. Oh if you ain't never wrote rhyms in
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: class when you're supposed to be paying attention, that's what
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: the kiss you in the back, that's whatever. Kiss you
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: in back of the class just to get a buzz
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: with you. Some niggas wanted you, but they weren't committed,
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: be occupied playing John Madden and bullshit. I'm just gonna
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: stop there. But again, this is what I was talking
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: about early on with Kendrick. I just felt the need
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: because the music was happening in my ears and I
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: was doing things to kind of not pay attention.
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: And when I.
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: Popped back in, I'm like, oh, you know, oh, it's
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: spouted shorty. I might have to running back to hit
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: the story from the beginning. And then I heard that
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: the shorty is a pending and I'm like, well, wait
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: a minute, what did he say? And now all the
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: lines turn into metaphors again for his commitment to hip hop.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: She just has a name called Gloria but it's really
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: more intimate than just common doing hip hop. You know,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: I used to love her or even though this wasn't
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: about that, but he alluded to it with the Me
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: and My Bitch start, which is Tupac, you know, talking
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: about his gun, me and my Bitch. So it's one
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: of those things where he's throwing in easter eggs. He's
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: given you metaphors. He's reminding you of songs like I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: used to Love Her, But it's still an intimate story
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: like Man at the Garden that's all his. It's about
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: him and his pen specifically hip hop, where honestly, as
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: an MC, you can be a little bit more original.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: When you heard this joint to like end off the album,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: not only what were your thoughts about this song, but
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: once you came to the conclusion of the album, you know,
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: how did you feel after listening to it?
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: Yeah, So by the time I got it was the
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: same thing, like, I'm.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Like, yo, this is I thought the song was dope.
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: I had a feeling it was deeper than the surface level.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: And then when he said.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: My pen at the end, I'm like yo, I felt
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: like yo, I gotta go, I gotta run this running
- 1:18:30Speaker 3: back and shit like, but.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: It's like to end it that way.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: It he's talking about his skill, he's talking about.
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: What again, what he brings to the culture.
- 1:18:48Speaker 3: And this is like and I know, I know they
- 1:18:53Speaker 3: probably gonna call me Kate Bot and all of this,
- 1:18:56Speaker 3: and I'm taking it too far. But it's almost like, yo,
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: you know, on to Pimple Butterfly, I love myself. It's like,
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: once again, he's self motivating even at the end, like yo,
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: I love my pen and I love what it brings
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: to this culture, you know what I mean. And he's devoted,
- 1:19:19Speaker 3: devoted to it. So, you know, great way to great
- 1:19:23Speaker 3: way to end the album. Great song, you know what
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: I mean, Great way to.
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: End the album. Yeah, man. And overall my thoughts are
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: it's a great album.
- 1:19:34Speaker 3: Man, It's a great album that the only I got.
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: Reservations are questionable about the one song, the title track,
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: you know what I mean, the GNX and even with that,
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: it's questionable, But at the same time I respect it
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: because this is giving the little homiees some shine, like yo,
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: let me get the homies from.
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: The city, some Sean from comp to some shine. You know.
- 1:20:04Speaker 3: So yeah, I might not agree with it, and it
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: might get skipped. It might if I'm close enough to
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: the to where you know, by listening apparatus, it might
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: get But like if I'm cleaning up or something and
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: it's just one, I'll let it rop, you know what
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: I mean, because that's the homies doing a thing.
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: That's the pop out, like they popping out, like so.
- 1:20:29Speaker 3: Let them get let them get some shine. But everything else, man,
- 1:20:34Speaker 3: it is.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: This this man's testament to hip hop.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: How he feels right now about it.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: But then I think by the time we get to
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: the end, like recentering himself, like, yo, well I'm still
- 1:20:54Speaker 3: devoted to this and I'm in love with my fan,
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: so I ain't leaving her, you know what I mean,
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: I'm still devoted to it.
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: And yeah, man, it's the most hip hop West Coast
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: stripped down.
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: I mean, that's very it gets Like with Luther it
- 1:21:16Speaker 3: gets very lush. With Hard Part six gets very lush,
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: and with Dodger Blue it gets really really lush.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: Right, But everything else is it's like, you know, very hip.
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: Hop's you can't confuse confuse it.
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: It's definitely some hip hop, you know what I mean? Now?
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: Is it rabbity rap?
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: Rap?
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: Rap rapping and rapping, and mm hmmm, I.
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: Would say reincarnated is right, right, sure, that's definitely some
- 1:21:55Speaker 3: rappity rap rapping, right, you know, it's not like metaphors, Well,
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: the whole song is, but it's not like punchline, right,
- 1:22:07Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: But yeah, man, I think it's a great contribution to
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: his catalog.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: I do have the sneaking suspicion that this may he
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: might got another one in the kiddy based on this
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: what this play in the background, Like that song is
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: not on here and we already got that, but squabb up.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: It's like, yo, you setting this up again, like you
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: about to you about to hit us with the one.
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Like I just have a sneaking suspicion.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: But you know, if that's not the case, I think
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: that this is, you know, a great contribution to to
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: his catalog.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: But it is the most stripped down.
- 1:22:57Speaker 3: It reminds me of what like like a little bit
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: like push your te like push your tea as like
- 1:23:07Speaker 3: the stripped down it's just yo, heartbeats rapping. It does
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: have a theme, you know what the theme is, Like
- 1:23:17Speaker 3: it's loose, you know, you really pay attention to really
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: pay attention to the bars and stuff.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Okay, now you can get the theme, whereas though you.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Know, with Kendrick, he's got the theme layered and like
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: with the skits, and then by the time you get
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: to the end, it all builds together and you're like,
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: oh shit, Like he was talking to Tupac the whole time,
- 1:23:39Speaker 3: like you know what I mean.
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: Like it's it's not that And I think that that
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: was good. I think after this.
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: Whole thing with Drake and just getting rid of him,
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: you know what I mean, or getting him out of
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: here as far as comparing to him, can people compare
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: airing him to Kendrick? Just ending that whole debate. Okay,
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: Now we're gonna get back to some music, but we're
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: gonna have We're gonna have fun with it. But I'm
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: gonna be extra competitive. He's gonna be extra competitive, but we're.
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: Gonna have fun. Like, Yo, let's have fun.
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: I'm gonna be extra West coast with it and obnoxiously
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: West coast. Yeah, unapologetically West coast.
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: You make a great point because you know, like that
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: was the one song on my first listen that I
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: ran back immediately because you know, I realized it was
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: the last song and it had a concept, so I
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: wanted to see you know, okay, well he's the type,
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: he's just a deep thinker. So I'm thinking, like it
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: has to mean something greater for the album, this last song,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: you know, and I didn't want to miss it, and
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: it kind of does. Like you said, the whole theme
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: is like, you know, the pop out album and you know, well,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: what's the byproduct? Well, the PopOut is a byproduct of
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: the battle, right, and what's the battle about? It's about
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: superior lyricists period, rapid, you know, no no big threes,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: just big k means and stuff. So I think it
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: ended being about his pen which was the conversation the
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: entire time and the reason why Drake lost, because Kendrick
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: wasn't just calculated when he dropped or what rumors came out.
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: It was all strategic and like things he said, each
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: the eggs that were then, like you said, you know,
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: not like us finally has a video, we all press
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: play and we hear a different song first, and everybody.
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: You can go back and look at the reactions, everybody's
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: reactions like, oh, what's this like when you're doing that?
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: From layers of you know, as far as like again,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: like your rollout, you're being strategic, your lyrics, You're being strategic,
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: the videos, You're being strategic, even this video because you know,
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I don't know what to be me up Scottie to
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: another Kendrick upstairs the way you get down, I'm like,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: what does that mean? You know what I'm saying, Like
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: is that the first video from this album officially? And
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: what does it mean for him to pull up in
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: the whip and look up there?
- 1:26:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: And one of the songs he's saying that car was
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: a car you always wanted kind of thing. So it's
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: what I enjoyed about it was the fact that Hendrick
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: is good money. If you're a fan, this man doesn't
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: have a bad project at all, whether it stops or
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: another one comes out. He may you may have ones
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: you prefer more than others, but there's some of our
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: favorites where we just like this one album they drove
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: was not it? Well, Kendrick, It's like they're never the same,
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: They're all different. They all kind of have a theme,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: but they all play into who he is. It's like
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: we thought good Kid Mas City was him writing this autobiography,
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: this whole catalog. It's this man's biography and he's just
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: writing it every time, but it's masked as a bop
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: or a Boombat track or you know what I'm saying,
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: or West Coast joint. And with that being said, I
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: will also say, like when we look at the drop,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: one of the things I analyzed in my I guess
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: an impressions video or you know, my reaction video was
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: the fact that earlier this week, J Cole had his
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: one hundred gigs for Your Headtime and he put out
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: a you know, a rundown of Yo, We're gonna do
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: this this way. We're gonna release this you know content,
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: we're gonna build up, we're gonna what Draper is, and
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: we're gonna remind you why you like J Cole, remind you.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: Of who he was.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: The first mixtape is now available on all your streaming platforms.
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: But guess what, it became available after this drop and
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: nobody cared anymore. So again with Kendrick, he didn't have
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: to even save your man this time. He just said, oh,
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: you're doing that. I get the feeling. Kendrick is sitting
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: in front of Mad Music and Buttons and Ship where
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: He's like, go ahead, nigga, go ahead and do that.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Go ahead, and super Bowl one hundred for your headtop
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: super Bowl commercial. You know what I'm saying, Yo, it's
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: take the obi whole picture. Okay, Uh, the party's over
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: with these these black ass boom right, but go ahead.
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: What we're gonna say, Nah, I was just gonna say,
- 1:29:20Speaker 2: it's work.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: It's just work. Like I'm not diminishing J Cole's work,
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: you know. Okay, let me remind you of why you
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: like be in the first place.
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: But it's like.
- 1:29:37Speaker 3: It's like, Yo, this dude is messing that up because
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: it's like, Yo, what are you done for me lately?
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: Like we wanted, Yo, give us.
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: The newness like it us you know what I mean? Like, Yo,
- 1:29:52Speaker 3: we we shouldn't even need that, Like Mike delete later.
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: Should be holding us over while we got a hundred
- 1:30:00Speaker 6: gigs that your head topping like that should be holding
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: us over, right, Like if I think for if for
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: some folks, it.
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: Does, I don't me dominated right, yeah.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: I think let me, let me, let me, let me
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: ease up, let me back. I think you know, folks
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: got strategies. Jco has a strategy and like you said
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: the strategy. Hey, let me show you all, remind you all.
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: Let's let's take a journey back. I'm gonna but it's
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: it's I mean, yo, man, it's it's.
- 1:30:39Speaker 2: Another m C to compare to. That's just what it is,
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: am I I'm gonna. We're gonna do this whole.
- 1:30:46Speaker 3: Your marketing and promotion when they can say your your gimmicks,
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: your marketing and promotion, you know what I mean, Like, Yo,
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: we're gonna do.
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: This whole rollout or Yo, why you like me?
- 1:30:57Speaker 3: And all of that and I'm just drop a song
- 1:31:02Speaker 3: Hart Part six, one song on my new project?
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: Did it give you all of that?
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: One song over over a beat that will give you
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: the feels? But it's also tied to the lyrics and
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: the theme of this series. It just it's it's crazy
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: because when when J Cole popped out before, you know,
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: everybody talk everything, including me, everybody was tearing them down
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: because of you know what he said it would be
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: and you know if I had a loss and again
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: and this and this is worse, this is a whole album.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: It was already bad enough that when Drake and J
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: Cole would pop out and say something or do something.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: And you'll see in the comment section somebody quoting uh
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: Kendrick lyric for one of his songs and it would
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: fit to a t you know what I'm saying, Like
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: you do this, oh port Antonio, somebody like I thought
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: it was weird when I saw them hugging and kissing
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: on stage, and it's just like it's just the gates
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: everything they trying to do, you know what I'm saying,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: Like or like Drake does the video, you know what
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: I'm saying. With the hoodies on and in the mall
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: and dudes are online like, oh, the ovihos are in
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: the mall, grown ass ovos in the mall.
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: You hanging out on the mall like looking for the miners.
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: Like it's like it's like they can't do nothing. I
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: think it's kind of like I, uh I said, I
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: was gonna say, tweet it rest in peace, Twitter. I
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: don't have a Twitter no more, but I posted every
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: time Jermaine tried to just clear the outside. Okay, boom
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: here y'all go hunting against for your headtop remember this
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: coming out the fall off and and Kendrick just drops
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: and everybody just moves to the side. Now, granted there's
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: something obviously you can listen to both, but it almost
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: brings everything back. The apology, you know, the bad bulls,
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: you know, the things he said, and the sandals on
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: the beach is not great, you know, like sandals and
- 1:33:23Speaker 1: socks on the beach, like fam, what are you doing?
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: What are you doing? Like you know what I'm saying.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: You try to be so whatever. But at the end
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: of the day, it's it's crazy because as much as
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: the battle was a thing that happened and we said, well,
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: we said that we had our fun with it then
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: and there, and Kendrick's giving us some great content to
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: go over, it's just it just brings it all back
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: up again, whether Drake says something that makes people go
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: back there or Kendrick just makes a statement. And this way,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: even though Drake knew it was going to happen, I
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: just find it interesting that he dropped around this time,
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: you know. And I think the only name was ice
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: Cube dropping an album, which is no comparison, but I
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: will say this twenty twenty four was the West Coast West.
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: Coast Bat like the.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: Old Dog Pound album. It's in my top five of
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: the year. I played that throughout the summer. But then
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: you had Blue Yeah, Schoolboy Q obviously, well now you
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: have Kendrick, you had DJ Quick Compilations, like you had
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: all these West Coast joints that was just rocking and
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: taking over. And it's like Kendrick just capped it off.
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Even though Snoop and Dre about to drop in December,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: It's like anybody's saying anything other than twenty twenty four
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: belong to the West Coast is lying to them.
- 1:35:08Speaker 2: Yeah, you line, you line. Yeah, I mean.
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: It's gonna be interesting because now you got young thug home,
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: so you know it's it's gonna be interesting. We'll we'll,
- 1:35:26Speaker 3: we'll see. But you're right, definitely, for twenty twenty four,
- 1:35:33Speaker 3: the West Coast was on the was on the money,
- 1:35:37Speaker 3: and it's in its hip hop like now mind you
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: you know they got some of the you know, the
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: stuff that people wouldn't probably did, wouldn't like, you know,
- 1:35:49Speaker 3: but they're the people that are in the forefront, you know.
- 1:35:55Speaker 3: I mean, they are carrying it and it's it's it's
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: good music.
- 1:35:59Speaker 2: Yeah you know what I'm saying.
- 1:36:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Vince Staples right, then you got she
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: got Tyler the creator too, So I right.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: Like like, oh look this because this shortly posted. I
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: don't man, I don't think I have it in front
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: of me. This shortly posted something that had like all
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: the albums from the West Coast that dropped, and she
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: didn't even have here.
- 1:36:32Speaker 2: It is right here.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: So she did have She had Kendrick, she had Tyler
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: up here, she had Larry June, she had abs so
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Blew and Ags Anderson Pop acknowledged forgot about that joint
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: Vince Staples, but you know dog pounds down here, a
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: couple of West Coast joints that will wind up on
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: a number of people's best of the year. And this
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: is just like another statement. And he, you know, he
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: obviously with the music, with some of the lyrics, he
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: pigs up California big time and points out, you know,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: those people who were haters. And I just find it
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: interesting because I know we're gonna go away from this album.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: Hear more things.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: Somebody gonna figure out the whole puzzle, you know, like yo, well,
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: he's sitting on I don't know the piano or whatever
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: that is in the back bobbing. That's actually this picture
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: of Louis Armstrong at the rally like you know, like
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: what like what's the name of the rally GNX, like what?
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: And even though there's some people who hate that, I
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: just find it funny because people like it when Marvel
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: do it all the time you watch Marvel shows, that's
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: content creators can just be like, Okay, this episode, like
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: that mask in the back over there is So I
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: just think it's dope for Kendrick to think about, you know,
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: the whole Easter egg hunting and keep people chasing the
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: carrot till he's done, to go off into the sunset
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: or back in the back cave. Well, yeah, man, they
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: I have it. What do y'all think about Kendrick Lamar's
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: brand new album g and X available now for you
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: to stream and check out yourself. Shout out to genies
