- 0:02Speaker 1: Good morning and happy Labor Day or turn to Glory
- 0:04Speaker 1: Podcast a bit of background. Dak overslept this morning, so
- 0:08Speaker 1: we had him record his takes from the game, a quick,
- 0:14Speaker 1: little five minute breakdown.
- 0:16Speaker 2: We might do this every week.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Dak did a very good job, so I'm gonna throw
- 0:20Speaker 1: that in here at the beginning, and then we'll get into.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Our regular show for the recap.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I'd like to apologize to the Returning Glory Podcast. I
- 0:31Speaker 3: may have overslept, so my bat. So we'll move on
- 0:34Speaker 3: from that. Well, first off, shout out to the atmosphere
- 0:40Speaker 3: at air Ahead. It was amazing. That was probably the
- 0:43Speaker 3: most fun I've ever had a football game, and it
- 0:51Speaker 3: didn't and it helped that me and Austin met for
- 0:53Speaker 3: the first time. All the podcast boys were in the
- 0:56Speaker 3: in the stadium, not actually in the stadium, but around
- 0:59Speaker 3: the stadium. So yeah, they added to it. Now, this
- 1:04Speaker 3: is this is what I thought about the game. Yes,
- 1:09Speaker 3: you come away happy with a win. There's a lot
- 1:12Speaker 3: to work on, which Wakina Stadium. I thought, there's a
- 1:18Speaker 3: lot more to work on than I thought. But then
- 1:26Speaker 3: you watch all these other teams like Alabama they lost Texas.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Of course, it looked like shit, I'd said, arch Mandy's
- 1:31Speaker 3: gonna suck. He does, so horns down right here. But
- 1:38Speaker 3: there's two main things and the rest things work on
- 1:40Speaker 3: big time. Your online D line got dominated, and Cincinnati
- 1:45Speaker 3: does have a big, a big NFL player whatever on
- 1:49Speaker 3: the d line, but their online got pushed around, and
- 1:54Speaker 3: Cincinnati's on line kind of pushed the D line around.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I think is that fixable?
- 2:08Speaker 3: I don't know. I really don't know. I guess we'll
- 2:12Speaker 3: see now. Will Will Pritchard ever see the field again?
- 2:21Speaker 3: Because that false start was one of the worst false
- 2:23Speaker 3: starts I've ever saw. You cannot jump when you're on
- 2:29Speaker 3: the half yard line like that. I needs can be
- 2:35Speaker 3: sneaker in the field. You cannot jump. Another thing I
- 2:40Speaker 3: thought about the game was it kind of felt like
- 2:43Speaker 3: Nebraska was vanilla like, like they're playing like an achron
- 2:52Speaker 3: So I don't know if they were like trying to
- 2:53Speaker 3: hide stuff because the first game of the year, like
- 2:56Speaker 3: I know, their offensive plays, defensive plays, because they wouldn't
- 3:00Speaker 3: they refuse to put a spy on sores beat And
- 3:04Speaker 3: I just can't. I just couldn't get it because all
- 3:06Speaker 3: that dude can do is run. He is speaking to him.
- 3:09Speaker 3: He sucks. He is not a good quarterback. That that
- 3:12Speaker 3: dude cannot throw the ball. Yeah, other than that, I
- 3:25Speaker 3: don't know. Now let's move to the main set of
- 3:31Speaker 3: the ball. Special teams rocked finally, I think I think
- 3:39Speaker 3: they have figured it out. You're you made her feel
- 3:45Speaker 3: an extra point and Archie Archie looks. Archie looks great.
- 3:58Speaker 3: He looked amazing. He had every every single punt and
- 4:04Speaker 3: I think inside of twenty five now that that might
- 4:06Speaker 3: be wrong, I'll be wrong. So basically my main recap
- 4:19Speaker 3: of the game is big time. Fix that O line
- 4:22Speaker 3: D line. That is bad. Danke Dankey also did not
- 4:29Speaker 3: was not in the game plan that much or Barney,
- 4:33Speaker 3: which I think they'll get more involved. Isaiah Hunter looked great.
- 4:41Speaker 3: Emmitt Johnson looks pretty pretty solid. You gotta fix that
- 4:47Speaker 3: goddamn O line D line though, I'll tell you that
- 4:50Speaker 3: that's that's scary and we'll see when you come Michigan
- 4:55Speaker 3: because Mission, if you're if your O line is what
- 4:58Speaker 3: it looks like against his name, Mission's gonna push that
- 5:01Speaker 3: bitch around. So with that, sorry turn glory boys, and
- 5:15Speaker 3: I sounded and go off on my alarm.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Stay with me, go big Red, Go Big Red.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Our Turn to Glory Podcast. Happy Labor Day everyone.
- 5:46Speaker 1: It's Monday morning, Hunters, Aarbernikki and Austin Rose to go
- 5:50Speaker 1: to Free Texas. I think a little bit under the
- 5:51Speaker 1: weather this morning. Long weekend, Long weekend Forum. Uh, it's
- 5:59Speaker 1: a good week. Huskers are three and oh. I mean
- 6:02Speaker 1: want to know I just been telling people three and
- 6:05Speaker 1: oh because the next two games are gimmes.
- 6:07Speaker 5: Well, I mean, if you factor in volleyball this weekend.
- 6:10Speaker 5: We did go three and oh over the weekend.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Okay, factor in volleyball.
- 6:13Speaker 1: We are three and oh due to volleyball and first
- 6:17Speaker 1: time that we have be a Power five opponent an
- 6:24Speaker 1: opening game of the year since two thousand and three.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And we talked about the importance of this first game
- 6:30Speaker 1: a lot before we get into the football game. Let
- 6:33Speaker 1: let's give our quick praises to the volleyball team. Lips
- 6:39Speaker 1: come on Friday, I believe as expected.
- 6:43Speaker 5: And then Tough one Kentucky number seven Kentucky give us
- 6:49Speaker 5: a I will say we didn't look super sharp. They
- 6:53Speaker 5: looked really sharp the first two sets, and then we
- 6:55Speaker 5: kind of hangened it up and they kind of fell apart.
- 6:58Speaker 5: But Danny Bustman Kelly pulling some bold subs out there,
- 7:01Speaker 5: swapping our the barrows, and it worked out. It was
- 7:05Speaker 5: it was a really good game, right, Like you know,
- 7:08Speaker 5: it's one of those games where it's I'm glad we
- 7:10Speaker 5: got the win. It's our third win over a top
- 7:13Speaker 5: seven team in the first four games of the year,
- 7:16Speaker 5: but it also is like, Okay, we have room to
- 7:18Speaker 5: improve outside hitters, kind of need to work on our
- 7:24Speaker 5: offense a little bit.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Got some things that improve on. It's always a good
- 7:28Speaker 2: thing to notice early in the year. I playing a
- 7:30Speaker 2: couple opponents.
- 7:31Speaker 5: It was I mean, honestly, it was one of the
- 7:33Speaker 5: it's been a while since I watched volleyball game where
- 7:38Speaker 5: the coach made some I mean she made like subs,
- 7:40Speaker 5: like she put in the Virginia I can't Andreani or
- 7:44Speaker 5: I don't know how you pronounced her last name, the
- 7:46Speaker 5: Italian girl. It subed ran out on the outside just
- 7:50Speaker 5: for more defense, and it was just it was interesting,
- 7:53Speaker 5: like they were active. It was like, oh, I can
- 7:54Speaker 5: actively see you trying to figure it out mid game,
- 7:58Speaker 5: and it worked.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Making a just I think they put in that Olivia
- 8:02Speaker 2: makin over.
- 8:04Speaker 1: So yeah, good job DBK volleyball team. Yeah, but I
- 8:12Speaker 1: had to throw that in there because I would have
- 8:13Speaker 1: forgot once we dive into this football game. Guys, we
- 8:18Speaker 1: want to know three no want to optimistic you are.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm not optimistic. I'm just happy because I did not
- 8:26Speaker 1: expect to win. I didn't think we were going to
- 8:27Speaker 1: win this game because we don't win these games.
- 8:29Speaker 2: And we were at.
- 8:30Speaker 5: The show up to the tailgate, but everyone's just like,
- 8:34Speaker 5: oh man, Hunter's over here just feeling ship.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Steel, and I just didn't think we were going to win.
- 8:41Speaker 2: We get we don't win these games. So that's why, Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 2: I'm happy that we won.
- 8:46Speaker 1: I don't I I'm not optimist. I'm just I'm just positive.
- 8:51Speaker 1: I'm encouraged that we won this game, like I just
- 8:54Speaker 1: I did. I didn't think we were going to win.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And there's a lot a lot of things we can
- 8:59Speaker 1: we're gonna get to here, but I just wanted to
- 9:04Speaker 1: see us win a big game like this on a
- 9:06Speaker 1: big stage, a close game. It was a one score game.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I mean when when we got when Malcolm Hartsaw got
- 9:13Speaker 1: that pick at the end of the game, I mean, I.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Stay up like I was like, holy cow, we actually
- 9:20Speaker 2: did it. Like we we.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Didn't find a way to lose this game, because I
- 9:24Speaker 1: mean everyone I can almost guarantee, was like this is yeah,
- 9:28Speaker 1: this is the song of dance that we go go through.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I even said it out loud. I think, I don't
- 9:36Speaker 2: know at what point in the.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Fourth quarter and some Husker fan right in front of
- 9:40Speaker 1: us turned around looked at me and he's like, no,
- 9:42Speaker 1: We're not losing. Like he was pissed. He's like, we
- 9:44Speaker 1: are not losing this game. I was like, okay, sir.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I was on the couch. Everyone in the house I
- 9:50Speaker 5: was watching this game was I was sleeping except for me,
- 9:53Speaker 5: And Maddy said the reason she knew I wasn't sleeping
- 9:55Speaker 5: was because I just kept I was just tense the
- 9:57Speaker 5: whole time, just kind of squirming because that whole last drive,
- 10:00Speaker 5: I was like, this is worth, this is worth goof up.
- 10:03Speaker 5: This is how it always goes, like, Oh, this is it.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Here's like they're marching down the field. It's gonna happen.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And then it's funny.
- 10:13Speaker 1: We don't even have to like tell people that narrative
- 10:16Speaker 1: anymore because even like the casual fan knows that we
- 10:19Speaker 1: lose close games now And I rewatched the game last night,
- 10:22Speaker 1: and there was a guy on uh they put on
- 10:26Speaker 1: TV that had this shirt of we almost always almost
- 10:32Speaker 1: like the TV talk about it, everybody knew.
- 10:38Speaker 5: I guess, you know, talk about arrowheads for a second
- 10:40Speaker 5: before we start going specifics. I see tail game team
- 10:44Speaker 5: was good, but on TV it occasionally sounded super loud,
- 10:50Speaker 5: but I imagine it was really loud the whole time.
- 10:53Speaker 5: They just kind of filtered out some of the noise
- 10:55Speaker 5: they could hear the announcers. Is that kind of had
- 10:57Speaker 5: to shook out.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Yeah, very loud. I announcers to it.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Just listening to them they I mean they commented on it, probably.
- 11:04Speaker 2: More than they even needed.
- 11:05Speaker 5: To on There was like three Cincinnati fans that they're like, oh,
- 11:09Speaker 5: we'll show these three fans over and over because these
- 11:11Speaker 5: are the only three we can find.
- 11:13Speaker 2: But yes, I mean it was.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You would talk about ninety ninety eight percent Nebraska fans
- 11:20Speaker 1: tail getting scene and at the game.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. It was a Husker home game and
- 11:25Speaker 2: that was a huge, huge factor.
- 11:29Speaker 5: I would probably say that was the difference. To be honest,
- 11:31Speaker 5: I don't think we're winning if it's in Cincinnati with
- 11:34Speaker 5: if the exact same Yes, yeah.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Different game.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I mean we I believe I counted four false starts
- 11:41Speaker 1: that you know, whether you want to directly attribute those
- 11:44Speaker 1: to the crowd noise.
- 11:46Speaker 5: Oh you could see them. You probably noticed it more
- 11:48Speaker 5: last night when you're watching on TV, just like the
- 11:50Speaker 5: quarterback trying sores, be trying to communicate with everyone and correct.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's you don't see some of those things when
- 11:57Speaker 1: you're when you're at the game.
- 11:58Speaker 2: But yes, it was very evident.
- 12:00Speaker 1: And coach Saturfield ver Cincinnati said made those comments about
- 12:04Speaker 1: the crowd his post game. It mattered, and so thank
- 12:08Speaker 1: you Cincinnati. I don't know what the outcome would have
- 12:11Speaker 1: been if it would have been at their stadium or
- 12:13Speaker 1: even Indianapolis, but thank you for moving it because I
- 12:16Speaker 1: do think that helped and had an Sometimes you can
- 12:20Speaker 1: say it helped in the home crowd, and I'm you know, yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 1: it has an effect. Well the fall Stars, it was
- 12:26Speaker 1: very clear it was loud in there, and for me,
- 12:29Speaker 1: was it louder than Memorial Stadium. I mean, I don't know,
- 12:32Speaker 1: maybe it hard to compare, but it was loud like
- 12:35Speaker 1: the crowd.
- 12:36Speaker 5: The crowd was after everyone took a day off to drink.
- 12:41Speaker 5: So it's just been.
- 12:45Speaker 2: And yeah, a couple of fall stars.
- 12:46Speaker 1: One came very very key on their last last drive
- 12:50Speaker 1: of the game with ten second runoff there, and and
- 12:52Speaker 1: a couple of them early like the first couple of drives,
- 12:56Speaker 1: first drive they were removing the ball and all and
- 13:00Speaker 1: third and four fall start and then gotta stop. So again, yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 1: environment great error had great, very good to get a
- 13:10Speaker 1: win on a big stage like that. I don't really
- 13:14Speaker 1: want to talk about the Mahomes, Kelsey, t Swift, all
- 13:18Speaker 1: that stuff, but they were all there.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Taylor Swift did show up.
- 13:21Speaker 5: That was that big first time seeing there. After the engagement,
- 13:25Speaker 5: you know.
- 13:27Speaker 2: A great lot obviously a lot of comparisons and Mahomes.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Did you see the Nebraska tweet that got taken down?
- 13:35Speaker 2: Then the tweets.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Yep, hey, don't mess with the Swifties. It's a cult, like,
- 13:42Speaker 1: don't do it.
- 13:44Speaker 5: I felt like that was more of a shot at
- 13:46Speaker 5: Travis than it was Taylor, but you know whatever.
- 13:52Speaker 1: So yeah, that was my general thought is like we
- 13:55Speaker 1: want that. That to me, it's huge, and I think
- 13:58Speaker 1: it's bigger than some people probably even think.
- 14:00Speaker 2: You lose that.
- 14:01Speaker 1: First game this season, Who in the hell knows where
- 14:04Speaker 1: it goes?
- 14:05Speaker 5: I mean, then you're you're starting basically two and two,
- 14:09Speaker 5: you feel like you're gonna start to in.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Well, and especially losing on a last drive like that
- 14:15Speaker 1: they go down score a touchdown the last and last minute,
- 14:18Speaker 1: when we have the game basically won again and.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You find a way to lose it. I think Rule.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Wants the guys to understand that it's well everybody to
- 14:33Speaker 1: fans include, it's not a fluke, it's not unlucky.
- 14:37Speaker 2: We just got to be a.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Little bit better than them, a little bit better here,
- 14:40Speaker 1: a little bit better there. And he deflates that one
- 14:45Speaker 1: score close game question when anybody asks that, he just.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Goes a different direction that difference in this game when
- 14:56Speaker 2: we had a couple of guys make a couple of plays,
- 14:58Speaker 2: a couple of key moments that we normally don't do,
- 15:01Speaker 2: and we didn't beat ourselves.
- 15:05Speaker 1: I don't know that we are very superior as far
- 15:08Speaker 1: as talent wise across the field to Cincinnati. And I'll
- 15:11Speaker 1: get to that when we start talking about players and positions.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But we're gonna be in a lot of close games
- 15:18Speaker 1: this year, and so the importance of finding a way
- 15:22Speaker 1: to win those making the plays when we need them
- 15:25Speaker 1: to and then not beating ourselves, like it's the opposite
- 15:29Speaker 1: of what we've done over the past five to seven
- 15:32Speaker 1: years in Nebraska football, Like that's that is what we
- 15:35Speaker 1: need to do to get over this hump. And we're
- 15:37Speaker 1: not probably well the next two games, maybe a couple others,
- 15:42Speaker 1: but I don't think there's gonna be very many blowouts
- 15:44Speaker 1: this year either way. They're gonna be close battles as
- 15:47Speaker 1: just where we're at as a program right now, and
- 15:50Speaker 1: that's okay. Finding a way to win those is what's
- 15:52Speaker 1: most important. And a couple of guys step up have
- 15:54Speaker 1: made big plays like that is what you need.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Well, I me and Malcolm had the back breaking pass
- 16:03Speaker 5: interference call and then had the interception, So they had
- 16:06Speaker 5: big plays both ways, back to back.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yes, and and we can we can start there.
- 16:11Speaker 1: I think what we're gonna do for these game recaps,
- 16:14Speaker 1: We're going to try to keep it a little organized
- 16:16Speaker 1: and go through position by position. Malcolm hart Tooks a
- 16:21Speaker 1: great one to start with because he was the one
- 16:22Speaker 1: that made the big play at the end of the.
- 16:24Speaker 2: Game intercepting that pass. You mentioned the pass interference before.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I'll go back even a little bit further and the
- 16:31Speaker 1: fourth and seven, with like a minute ten left, they
- 16:35Speaker 1: ran a little out route and Hartzog was also the
- 16:38Speaker 1: one covering that him there as well, and both the
- 16:42Speaker 1: whole the past interference hold, whatever you want to call it.
- 16:44Speaker 2: In that play it did not look good one on
- 16:46Speaker 2: one and so.
- 16:47Speaker 1: They attacked him and our last play we were in zone,
- 16:50Speaker 1: but he went and made a play.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Uh and damn good, damn good one.
- 16:54Speaker 1: You know he caught it too, is like sometimes we
- 16:56Speaker 1: dropped those to what seal games? He so credit to
- 17:02Speaker 1: him overcoming that. Our secondary and hard Tung included in that.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna give them more praise than probably any other
- 17:13Speaker 1: position because in order for us to win the games
- 17:18Speaker 1: that we want to win this year, they are going
- 17:19Speaker 1: to have to be so freaking good.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Yes, they and they are.
- 17:23Speaker 1: They played well, and we knew that was the strength
- 17:26Speaker 1: of our team coming in. We knew their experienced, their veterans.
- 17:31Speaker 1: They as the season goes along, are going to have
- 17:35Speaker 1: even more and more and more responsibility because I have
- 17:37Speaker 1: a feeling we're gonna have to change some things up
- 17:42Speaker 1: upfront in the front seven because we can trust our
- 17:46Speaker 1: secondary more. And those guys they again again Cincinnati I
- 17:51Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know how good those transfer receivers are.
- 17:54Speaker 1: They some people were kind of talking them up, but
- 17:57Speaker 1: who knows. They're gonna play a lot were probably gonna
- 17:59Speaker 1: to play a lot man coverage and just lock people
- 18:01Speaker 1: down because we're better out there.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And it was good at place.
- 18:07Speaker 5: Yeah, and they did a.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Good job of that.
- 18:10Speaker 1: This, I mean, this game, we shut Cincinnati's pass came
- 18:12Speaker 1: down out he sur We had sixty some yards of passing, like.
- 18:17Speaker 5: Sixty nine with just over fifty percent passing, just barely
- 18:21Speaker 5: over fifty percent passing. And even then, most of those
- 18:23Speaker 5: yards came on that last drive when they were trying
- 18:25Speaker 5: to march down the field and they had fourteen yard
- 18:28Speaker 5: catch and then another like eight yard catch, so you know,
- 18:33Speaker 5: he was pretty close. I think you might have been
- 18:36Speaker 5: under fifty yards before the last two drives, So I agree.
- 18:42Speaker 5: You know, my gut reaction was the D line didn't
- 18:45Speaker 5: look very good. But the reason the D line that
- 18:46Speaker 5: looked very good was because they had to run it
- 18:48Speaker 5: because well it exposed our D line because they had
- 18:52Speaker 5: to run it because our defensive backs were so good
- 18:54Speaker 5: locking up the receivers that that was really the only
- 18:56Speaker 5: avenue they had, So it's kind of It's kind of
- 19:00Speaker 5: funny because the field kind of flipped from last year's
- 19:02Speaker 5: defense where d line was really good and our secondary
- 19:05Speaker 5: was the shoddier portion, and now we're I think we're
- 19:08Speaker 5: going to see the opposite this year.
- 19:11Speaker 1: Yeah, defensive line is a big concern, and and I
- 19:17Speaker 1: it's more of a concern after rewatching it too. I
- 19:20Speaker 1: thought early on in the game they were getting some
- 19:23Speaker 1: holes as well in the run game.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Nash and Tie are I mean the players.
- 19:32Speaker 5: Yea both on it or well, I guess Nash is
- 19:35Speaker 5: just on a practice squad. But Ty did make the
- 19:37Speaker 5: fifty three roster.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Correct, So I'm that was one position in our preview
- 19:43Speaker 1: that I was I felt okay about, Like I I'm like, okay,
- 19:46Speaker 1: we can fill these guys because they're they're backing up
- 19:50Speaker 1: such good players that they learned a lot and they're
- 19:52Speaker 1: gonna be good too. Here my big thing there, we
- 19:55Speaker 1: don't have the bodies yet.
- 19:57Speaker 5: They're not Yeah, they're not there.
- 19:58Speaker 1: The closest that I thought was Keona Davis, Like he
- 20:02Speaker 1: had a couple of times where he just because of
- 20:04Speaker 1: his sheer size, was able to cause some disruption in
- 20:09Speaker 1: the backfield Riley Van poppol I was not impressed with
- 20:13Speaker 1: and a lot of times those guys don't play together.
- 20:17Speaker 1: I think we're gonna have to find the right balance
- 20:20Speaker 1: of guys. Like I'm not trying to put anybody down,
- 20:23Speaker 1: but like Williams when Erry he's he's not very big
- 20:28Speaker 1: and he was the best one and yeah, and and
- 20:31Speaker 1: he he they can get moved around. So the defensive
- 20:35Speaker 1: line is concerning to me just because of the sheer
- 20:39Speaker 1: size fact. And we're obviously gonna see a lot better
- 20:43Speaker 1: teams in Cincinnati. Cincinnati's on a pushover up front.
- 20:47Speaker 5: That they they we're gonna see better teams.
- 20:52Speaker 1: And I do think the three three five you have
- 20:57Speaker 1: to be very sound of clogging up and just I
- 21:00Speaker 1: mean big bodies. You have to just fill up room
- 21:03Speaker 1: in front because you do you have more secondary type
- 21:06Speaker 1: of guys in the field.
- 21:07Speaker 2: You want those guys to be flying around and.
- 21:10Speaker 1: That, Yeah, that that's gonna be a big thing that
- 21:13Speaker 1: I think the coaching staff tweaks in adjusts and I
- 21:18Speaker 1: think they got to stay fresh too. However, you're gonna
- 21:20Speaker 1: do that and that's hard if you're not very deep there.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But I think you look guessed at the end.
- 21:28Speaker 5: Over fifty two tackles, one had three and Williams no
- 21:34Speaker 5: one how you say his name, I just get rid
- 21:37Speaker 5: of the Okay, you had six, so I mean they had.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I mean Judy played a lot in there too, like
- 21:45Speaker 1: we had different guys that played.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Judy didn't have any recordable stats. Not to say that
- 21:50Speaker 5: everything is needs to be recordable for it to count,
- 21:52Speaker 5: but when you look through like the defensive tack totals,
- 21:56Speaker 5: defensive tackle totals, it's all.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Backside's really not making not saying make an excuse, but
- 22:06Speaker 1: I do think the three three five is not always
- 22:11Speaker 1: true eventsive lineman based tackling, because you do your job
- 22:14Speaker 1: is to fill gaps, clog holes so that your linebacker
- 22:18Speaker 1: linebackers can fly around and make tacks correct.
- 22:21Speaker 5: But when you see that they ran for over two
- 22:23Speaker 5: hundred yards, it's like, okay, well, yeah, you need to
- 22:26Speaker 5: get your arm on some of those guys correct.
- 22:28Speaker 2: And we won't see it.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Just top of the yeah, I say we won't. We
- 22:34Speaker 5: probably won't see a mobile quarterback like this. Uh again,
- 22:40Speaker 5: I don't know if there's really.
- 22:42Speaker 1: I thought about that too, So obviously Sores be be
- 22:46Speaker 1: us with his legs.
- 22:48Speaker 5: About ninety six yards on the ground.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Especially late, which part of me was okay with that
- 22:55Speaker 1: because I know that you know you're you're playing a
- 22:58Speaker 1: little more conservative when you're when you got ten point lead,
- 23:01Speaker 1: it was enough for us to win.
- 23:02Speaker 2: It's the game, hallelujah. But I do think.
- 23:08Speaker 1: His legs and remember he knew that he could run,
- 23:11Speaker 1: but maybe he didn't know the extent he causes problems.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I think we were a little gassed. I do think
- 23:17Speaker 1: that all that factored in. I thought about that too.
- 23:21Speaker 1: Are we going to see a betty better running quarterback
- 23:23Speaker 1: than Swords?
- 23:27Speaker 2: I don't know, Like I don't know. I don't know
- 23:29Speaker 2: what Maryland's got.
- 23:30Speaker 5: But as a team, they averaged seven yards of carry. Yes,
- 23:34Speaker 5: as a team, so that's that's a big red flag
- 23:37Speaker 5: from where we were last year.
- 23:38Speaker 2: And solid too.
- 23:41Speaker 5: I will say that you watched Telly White Florida State
- 23:43Speaker 5: and they lock up Alba's run. He was like, oh boy,
- 23:46Speaker 5: is that the secret sauce guys.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Tony White him good coach.
- 23:50Speaker 1: We've said it like losing him is a big thing,
- 23:53Speaker 1: and it just got We talked about it for a
- 23:55Speaker 1: week or two last year and then just now I
- 23:57Speaker 1: pushed under the table.
- 23:58Speaker 2: It's a big thing.
- 23:59Speaker 1: And I'm not saying John Butler can't, but it was
- 24:04Speaker 1: big losing some of those guys too, Like Tony White
- 24:07Speaker 1: knows defense and he isn't him good coach. So whatever
- 24:10Speaker 1: happened there, we don't know the details and exactly why
- 24:14Speaker 1: that transition occurred.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Our defense, I will say this did not fall apart.
- 24:22Speaker 5: No, we gave up seventeen points and we helped them
- 24:25Speaker 5: to I mean we held them to three points in
- 24:29Speaker 5: the first half.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Correct, and the style that we play, and this is
- 24:34Speaker 1: more big picture more I talk to people. It was
- 24:39Speaker 1: high scoring thirty eight to twenty one, winning our offensively,
- 24:44Speaker 1: more explosive.
- 24:45Speaker 2: Like I thought, it was going to be a very
- 24:47Speaker 2: different style of game.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Rule time of possession, we had thirty nine minutes. I mean,
- 24:53Speaker 5: that's different concern.
- 24:54Speaker 2: But yeah, you're real is not playing that way overall.
- 24:58Speaker 1: He the way this game went is how he wants
- 25:00Speaker 1: to win games right now, because you can't play that
- 25:04Speaker 1: way on the offensive side unless you really really are
- 25:07Speaker 1: superior to.
- 25:08Speaker 2: The other team.
- 25:09Speaker 1: You gotta find a way to win close games first
- 25:11Speaker 1: and are it starts playing defense and shut people down
- 25:14Speaker 1: and then building off of that.
- 25:15Speaker 5: So defense, i'd say, before switching, what's before switching over,
- 25:21Speaker 5: what's the bit, what's the big defense takeaway?
- 25:26Speaker 1: I'm not extremely disappointed. The defensive line is concerning, and
- 25:30Speaker 1: I will say this with our linebackers since we haven't
- 25:32Speaker 1: talked about them yet. They flew around and that's what
- 25:37Speaker 1: we did.
- 25:37Speaker 2: That was starting. We were told there they're quicker unit.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Now getting maybe blocked in the second level sometimes maybe
- 25:47Speaker 1: question mark. But as far as them making plays and
- 25:50Speaker 1: flying around, there were several different guys that made plays.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Vincent Shavers made the huge strip fumble, the big hit
- 25:57Speaker 1: there on the Cincinnati two minute drive before half, like
- 26:01Speaker 1: that that was a big player, not strip but putting
- 26:04Speaker 1: his head on the ball. Javin Wright had a huge
- 26:08Speaker 1: play there on that drive as well. Like everybody made
- 26:12Speaker 1: little strides I thought, and little plays at big times
- 26:16Speaker 1: at that linebacker spot. So they're they're gonna have to
- 26:19Speaker 1: do have more responsibility, I think, and we're gonna have
- 26:21Speaker 1: to continue to be more creative to get some negative plays. Now.
- 26:26Speaker 1: At the same time, I thought, Cincinnati and this is
- 26:30Speaker 1: maybe how this defense is going to be. They either
- 26:32Speaker 1: went for about seven or eight yards or they went
- 26:34Speaker 1: for about zero or negative too. There there weren't many
- 26:37Speaker 1: just two or three yard games, different style that maybe
- 26:42Speaker 1: we're used to when when the hole was.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Opened and blown open and it was like, oh boy,
- 26:47Speaker 2: what happened there?
- 26:48Speaker 1: But there were times that were like holy cow, we
- 26:51Speaker 1: we had three guys by the ball and there two
- 26:52Speaker 1: yards in the backfield. So maybe that syncing up the
- 26:56Speaker 1: blitzing and and all of that timing out the play right.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna call it guessing, but you know, having having
- 27:03Speaker 1: the right play call given what they're doing.
- 27:05Speaker 5: So I have a hunch that a lot of teams
- 27:07Speaker 5: are gonna try to run the ball on us this year,
- 27:10Speaker 5: and so we've got a lot of games to figure
- 27:11Speaker 5: it out because it's gonna happen every game. But we
- 27:14Speaker 5: did win the turnover battle. I mean we had two turnovers,
- 27:17Speaker 5: so that's not nothing.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And yeah, credit credit again that those guys making those
- 27:22Speaker 1: plays that they came at big points in the game too,
- 27:25Speaker 1: that I mean, that's the thing. And and yeah, I
- 27:28Speaker 1: do think our secondary is gonna have a lot more
- 27:31Speaker 1: responsibility because we're going we're going to see our interior
- 27:35Speaker 1: seven have to stick more guys in the box, be
- 27:39Speaker 1: a little more aggressive there and just trust in our
- 27:42Speaker 1: back end can hold up one on one and a
- 27:44Speaker 1: lot of that's gonna depend on matchups with who we
- 27:46Speaker 1: got across the field, but I feel pretty good. They
- 27:49Speaker 1: tried to test Andrew Marshall early a couple of times
- 27:52Speaker 1: and he held his own.
- 27:53Speaker 2: He did, he did a good job as well.
- 27:55Speaker 1: So again, overall defense like not obviously, I don't think
- 27:58Speaker 1: we're there like we have in the past years.
- 28:00Speaker 2: But through game one, not a big ball off, not
- 28:05Speaker 2: a big drop off.
- 28:07Speaker 5: I said there were three for ten on third downs.
- 28:10Speaker 5: I mean there are two for two and four downs.
- 28:12Speaker 5: But there are things that are to be happy about.
- 28:17Speaker 5: But I definitely feel you just it's just tough when
- 28:21Speaker 5: you come from last years defense, this year's defense. That's right,
- 28:24Speaker 5: this isn't last year's team.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Okay, let's jump over the other side of the ball here,
- 28:31Speaker 1: duc offense.
- 28:32Speaker 2: Start with Dylan.
- 28:35Speaker 5: The guys, that's the guy.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Is this guys, it's what It's what we wanted.
- 28:43Speaker 1: To get a quarterback in Nebraska after two years ago.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Someone that's not gonna make mistakes, manage the game, lead
- 28:53Speaker 1: the team, and do your job. That's what he's doing
- 28:58Speaker 1: right now. And is he right now, the a Heisman
- 29:03Speaker 1: breaking stat numbering, explosive offense type of quarterback. No, some
- 29:08Speaker 1: people wanted to be that.
- 29:09Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe is that what we need right now?
- 29:12Speaker 5: It's every week he rolled out with seventy completion, zero turnover,
- 29:16Speaker 5: two and forty yards and two touchdowns. I take that
- 29:21Speaker 5: every week.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I think fans just in general want an explosive offense,
- 29:27Speaker 1: an exciting offense to watch.
- 29:29Speaker 2: They thought maybe this week looked bland. Maybe it did.
- 29:36Speaker 1: I don't know that we are that talented. Now we're
- 29:40Speaker 1: gonna hear that we're that talented from random people. How
- 29:43Speaker 1: good all these players are compared to other teams that
- 29:46Speaker 1: we're playing.
- 29:46Speaker 2: I don't know that we are.
- 29:47Speaker 1: So we just got to be a little bit better
- 29:49Speaker 1: than them. And it starts with Dylan being an above
- 29:52Speaker 1: average quarterback and not making mistakes and Dylan just watching
- 29:56Speaker 1: that game back to so many smart throws and play
- 30:00Speaker 1: that he did and completely I watched so many quote
- 30:03Speaker 1: unquote good quarterbacks this weekend.
- 30:06Speaker 2: In some of these third games just not may not
- 30:09Speaker 2: look terrible, but missed some easy throws like Dylan did
- 30:12Speaker 2: not miss.
- 30:13Speaker 5: There was there was only one throw and that was
- 30:15Speaker 5: definitely like it was a miscommunication where it's like what
- 30:18Speaker 5: just happened there where the receiver went out inside in
- 30:21Speaker 5: seid of out. That was really the only time where
- 30:23Speaker 5: you're like, oh geez, like that was that was way off,
- 30:26Speaker 5: but the rest of them was like, Okay, that's close
- 30:28Speaker 5: to that's well covered or you know, he kind of
- 30:31Speaker 5: knew that that one was gonna get caught, so it
- 30:32Speaker 5: kind of threw an uncatchable and he only missed nine passes.
- 30:39Speaker 2: He manages the game so well. And you heard rule
- 30:43Speaker 2: talk about what Cincinnati was giving us. Cincinnati plays a
- 30:46Speaker 2: lot of his own play, a lot of deep coverage.
- 30:48Speaker 2: The amount of third and fourth, third and fourth or
- 30:51Speaker 2: five third and six that we converted because Dylan just
- 30:54Speaker 2: said I'm gonna take what they're gonna give us and
- 30:56Speaker 2: get it first. Like that happened like six or seven
- 30:59Speaker 2: times in the game. And he did such a great
- 31:02Speaker 2: job of just making the smart play as it is.
- 31:06Speaker 5: And it's first pointing out that their defensive line is
- 31:09Speaker 5: is a serious defensive line, Like I mean, they were
- 31:13Speaker 5: he was operating under pressure a lot.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Correct.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Will we see better defensive lines, We probably will, but yeah,
- 31:20Speaker 1: one of their strengths and their best player on their
- 31:23Speaker 1: entire roster was the godfather up front.
- 31:26Speaker 5: And I mean that guy was incredible nickname.
- 31:29Speaker 2: That guy was as big as expected to. It's such
- 31:32Speaker 2: a big dude.
- 31:33Speaker 1: And and Dylan, like you said, handled the pressure, handled
- 31:39Speaker 1: all the hype and perform solid.
- 31:42Speaker 2: He's not gonna go I don't. We don't. I don't.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I don't want him to.
- 31:46Speaker 1: I don't want him to have to want to go
- 31:48Speaker 1: out and throw for three point fifty and and.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Take a bunch of risks and put a four touchdown
- 31:54Speaker 2: one interception. I don't, I don't.
- 31:57Speaker 1: I don't think that's the way that we want to
- 31:58Speaker 1: win games right now. I don't think that's the way
- 32:00Speaker 1: Rule wants to win games right now. I think Rule
- 32:02Speaker 1: wants to do what Dylan's got to do, what he's
- 32:04Speaker 1: gotta do. And my concern, maybe some people's like hope,
- 32:10Speaker 1: was that Dana was gonna come in and just revamp
- 32:12Speaker 1: this thing and make it flashy and Dana Holgerson from
- 32:18Speaker 1: back in the day type of offense. No, like we
- 32:22Speaker 1: had a lot of undercenter, double tight rant. Dana also
- 32:27Speaker 1: was through that narrative. So who again, whether that's Dana
- 32:30Speaker 1: calling that shot or rule. You know, infiltrating Dana's mindsting,
- 32:33Speaker 1: this is what we need to do with a program.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Figure this out. Credit to our offense for doing that. Now,
- 32:39Speaker 1: in my thing, our offense is phenomenal and perfect.
- 32:42Speaker 5: No, not at all. It was a little not boring,
- 32:45Speaker 5: but I mean it was. It was pretty meat and potatoes.
- 32:48Speaker 1: And that's the that's the negative comment. But in a game,
- 32:54Speaker 1: in games that we're just gonna have to freaking win
- 32:57Speaker 1: by a score, that's what.
- 32:59Speaker 2: It's gonna look like.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Maybe there's gonna be some more times we can test
- 33:02Speaker 1: people downfield, but you know, third quarter, Bonner goes down,
- 33:06Speaker 1: gets hurt. Corey Barney got tripped up a couple one.
- 33:11Speaker 1: The one Jesse sweep he got was kind of was
- 33:14Speaker 1: could have been a really big play. Isaiah Hunter, I
- 33:18Speaker 1: thought did some really good things. Dame Key. Here's here's why.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Dame Key thoughts he can run routes.
- 33:28Speaker 1: But I was watching his routes on TV to like
- 33:30Speaker 1: he he's the first guy that we've had in a
- 33:32Speaker 1: while that can run a route to get open and
- 33:36Speaker 1: knows how to do it.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Without breakaway speed, and we we haven't had now.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I don't know that he's maybe a guy that we're
- 33:43Speaker 1: gonna be able to send downfield and throwing the ball.
- 33:45Speaker 1: I don't think that's his role, but he isn't going
- 33:48Speaker 1: to be the guy that we can throw to on
- 33:50Speaker 1: and Dylan like throwing to him, you could tell on
- 33:52Speaker 1: on a lot of those third downs and that won
- 33:55Speaker 1: the goal line too. He trusts him. He's a veteran guy.
- 33:58Speaker 1: He did his receivers. I was pleasantly surprised with, Like,
- 34:02Speaker 1: that's what it's gonna look like for a lot of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the of the year.
- 34:06Speaker 2: I think Isaiah's got maybe some white potential.
- 34:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I said, out of the he has the big play.
- 34:13Speaker 5: As far as downfield catches, it was pretty evenly distributed
- 34:17Speaker 5: across five guys.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Uh.
- 34:20Speaker 5: I would be shocked the way that the balls are
- 34:24Speaker 5: being played. I mean, Ja, Corey and Emmon are gonna
- 34:26Speaker 5: end up injured on the sideline at some point if
- 34:29Speaker 5: this is how they get used all year. I mean,
- 34:30Speaker 5: they were absolutely getting just the they were catching it.
- 34:33Speaker 5: To their credit, they were catching the ball within bam
- 34:36Speaker 5: like it's.
- 34:39Speaker 1: A lot of dumped downs. Now, is that a product
- 34:41Speaker 1: of the offense or what Cincinnati has given us? Coach
- 34:45Speaker 1: to say Cincinnati's given us.
- 34:46Speaker 5: That I'd say's probably a little bit of both. It's
- 34:49Speaker 5: designed for there. I bet there are a lot of
- 34:51Speaker 5: shots that were designed for if there's a guy, if
- 34:54Speaker 5: there's one shot open, you're taking it, if not immediately
- 34:57Speaker 5: dumping it. But I mean Emma and Ja Cory were
- 34:59Speaker 5: getting at rocked. It seems like every time they caught
- 35:03Speaker 5: the ball.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so there were a lot, a lot, a lot
- 35:06Speaker 2: of immediate.
- 35:11Speaker 5: I mean, Dylan's getting it in that window. It's a
- 35:13Speaker 5: small window, and they were holding onto the ball. They
- 35:15Speaker 5: weren't fun with it. But boy, I was like, it's
- 35:17Speaker 5: gonna be a long season for those two guys that
- 35:19Speaker 5: they're getting cooked like that.
- 35:22Speaker 1: And give Cincinnati a little credit to I mean, seriously,
- 35:25Speaker 1: if you're if you don't know anything about Nebraska football,
- 35:28Speaker 1: you know nothing, and you're going in to play them
- 35:30Speaker 1: next week, one of the things you're gonna say is
- 35:32Speaker 1: let them beat themselves. Hel PJ Fleck and Kirk Farrens
- 35:35Speaker 1: have done that for years and kicked our butt doing it.
- 35:38Speaker 2: So what are you gonna do?
- 35:40Speaker 1: Well defensively, Let's just wait till they fumble it. Let's
- 35:44Speaker 1: wait till Dylan gets aggressive and throws a pick and
- 35:46Speaker 1: get tipped past pick.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Let's just slow, make them have fourteen fifteen play drives
- 35:53Speaker 2: and go down and score that. Generally speaking, that's what
- 35:56Speaker 2: you would do.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Because we find a way to beat ourselves, we just
- 36:02Speaker 1: do so cred Cincinnati. That was our game plan. Now
- 36:05Speaker 1: we did enough to not let that work. I mean,
- 36:10Speaker 1: I'll give Dylan a lot of the credit there in
- 36:14Speaker 1: the staff like that. That's that's what they gave us.
- 36:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. Overall, the passing game was fine. It
- 36:23Speaker 5: was it was sufficient. That's what it needed to be.
- 36:25Speaker 5: We had we were pretty efficient on third downs. We
- 36:28Speaker 5: had a lot of third downs, but we were We
- 36:30Speaker 5: did pretty alright with them until the end when we
- 36:32Speaker 5: kind of needed to produce a little bit more. That
- 36:35Speaker 5: were there were some more general like offensive comments of
- 36:40Speaker 5: you know, we get towards the end of the fourth
- 36:43Speaker 5: quarter there and we have the ball, It's like, okay,
- 36:45Speaker 5: why are we running this? I just there were some
- 36:48Speaker 5: things where it's like I felt like a clock management
- 36:50Speaker 5: a little bit at the end. We were getting a
- 36:51Speaker 5: little too cute when we had been cute the whole game.
- 36:55Speaker 5: But it was it was good, it was sufficient.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I'm also trying to as I'm talking now because I
- 37:02Speaker 1: had a lot of things.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Right now, I'm like, oh boy, a lot.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Of things coming out pretty positive right now, I'm pretty encouraging.
- 37:08Speaker 2: I'm trying to put myself. They score on that last drive,
- 37:12Speaker 2: we lose.
- 37:14Speaker 1: How does the tone flip in a lot of these
- 37:16Speaker 1: conversations on the offensive side, specifically.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Like conservative, that's the that's the conservative.
- 37:22Speaker 2: How's it flipped out? Do I? I don't know that.
- 37:28Speaker 1: I I personally don't want us to go out and
- 37:30Speaker 1: try to just be super aggressive all the time.
- 37:32Speaker 2: I just I just.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Don't Our team is not ready to leap from like
- 37:39Speaker 1: really shitty offense last year to all of a sudden
- 37:41Speaker 1: one of the top twenty offenses in the country. We're
- 37:43Speaker 1: not That's not we. I don't think we're built that
- 37:46Speaker 1: way to do that. Can we gradually get there potentially?
- 37:49Speaker 1: But I think we got to see a game like
- 37:51Speaker 1: this where was it explosive? No?
- 37:54Speaker 2: But were there parts of it that were like.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Huh huh huh, yeah, there were. Before we move on
- 38:01Speaker 1: from Dylan, I I want to mention Dylan's transformation mentioned
- 38:06Speaker 1: several times in the broadcast of his body.
- 38:09Speaker 2: You know, his weight didn't change much looks. I'm gonna
- 38:13Speaker 2: say he looks better.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Wowna say he looks better.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Here's what was a little more encouraging. He was more
- 38:24Speaker 1: elusive in the pocket. I wrote down the word that
- 38:26Speaker 1: someone used the announcers climbing the pocket was what this
- 38:31Speaker 1: little segment.
- 38:32Speaker 5: Was very good at stepping up in the pocket when
- 38:34Speaker 5: it when it came in around, because it happened a lot.
- 38:37Speaker 1: And and that is a little bit of credit I
- 38:39Speaker 1: think to his his his body and being a little
- 38:42Speaker 1: more elusive.
- 38:43Speaker 2: And he had a one big scramble for down.
- 38:50Speaker 1: He's not where I personally would want a quarterback with
- 38:54Speaker 1: their bilt like I want him to get more, even
- 38:56Speaker 1: more towards mahomes. Now, I wasn't expecting to be level now, No,
- 39:01Speaker 1: it got We took a step in the right direction.
- 39:04Speaker 2: I still think there's times that he's not there yet,
- 39:08Speaker 2: but it got better.
- 39:10Speaker 1: Like he definitely took a step up from last year
- 39:14Speaker 1: in mechanics of stepping up in the pocket and having
- 39:17Speaker 1: to maybe move a little bit to get an angle
- 39:22Speaker 1: and all of that.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Now that being said, he still knows how to.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Use his arm angle incredibly well, so that maybe maybe
- 39:34Speaker 1: counters that a little bit and takes a little bit
- 39:36Speaker 1: of that need for running away.
- 39:38Speaker 2: But it got better.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Like, I'm not like, holy cow, Dylan Royola is right
- 39:42Speaker 1: where we want to be from mobile side of things,
- 39:47Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think that, but I think he
- 39:48Speaker 1: took a step in the right direction to it. I
- 39:51Speaker 1: want to see a little bit more usage.
- 39:53Speaker 2: I don't want him to run.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Twelve times designed runs, but I like, I think it's
- 39:59Speaker 1: an an element. When your quarterback can run a QB
- 40:03Speaker 1: draw on third and six and get a first down,
- 40:06Speaker 1: it's another thing you got to prepare for.
- 40:08Speaker 2: I don't think want to Dylan yet.
- 40:10Speaker 5: There was one third down where we ended up punting
- 40:13Speaker 5: it and I was like, I don't know. I feel like,
- 40:14Speaker 5: if Dylan was ready for it, I think we could
- 40:17Speaker 5: have pushed for it. I don't remember which down it was,
- 40:20Speaker 5: but I do remember, like, that's a pretty close one.
- 40:22Speaker 5: I feel like, I'm surprised we didn't go for it,
- 40:24Speaker 5: but I agree. I thought he looked good and yeah,
- 40:27Speaker 5: I guess we'll talk about the running game here a
- 40:28Speaker 5: little bit. But Dylan, Dylan, there wasn't a moment where
- 40:32Speaker 5: I was like, what are you doing, Dylan? What? What
- 40:36Speaker 5: was that?
- 40:36Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 40:37Speaker 1: And again running and QB running games. There's all levels
- 40:44Speaker 1: of it on a full spectrum. Like Dylan obviously is
- 40:48Speaker 1: not a running quarterback and he's never going to be,
- 40:51Speaker 1: but he just wanted to be mobile. I just want
- 40:54Speaker 1: him to be a little more mobile, and we took
- 40:56Speaker 1: a step there with where he's at and out he's
- 40:58Speaker 1: not where I want him to be. The just just
- 41:01Speaker 1: watching some of these other big time teams, like they
- 41:06Speaker 1: can use their not just use their quarterback, but their
- 41:10Speaker 1: quarterback makes plays with their feet.
- 41:12Speaker 5: Well, I mean the he had that run pass option
- 41:15Speaker 5: there to score that touchdown with or no, we didn't
- 41:19Speaker 5: score the touchdown. We were just shy right.
- 41:20Speaker 1: With past the linden Meyer, which before we talked about
- 41:24Speaker 1: end receivers.
- 41:26Speaker 2: How about Luke Lindenmeyer.
- 41:27Speaker 5: I mean he looks like a freaking dog.
- 41:29Speaker 2: He looks like he.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Looks like the tight end that all these guys that
- 41:33Speaker 1: have gotten hurt and had they touted their shirts and
- 41:35Speaker 1: brought in like he did what we wanted all them
- 41:38Speaker 1: to do.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Like he he.
- 41:40Speaker 5: He blocked, he blocked, and he looked big, He looked
- 41:44Speaker 5: tough to take down, and I.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Think we used him appropriately to Like he got a
- 41:51Speaker 1: couple of tough passes to I mean that RBO that
- 41:54Speaker 1: you're talking about. That was the last minute Dylan like RPO,
- 41:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna run. Oh shoot, I can't run. Let's just
- 42:00Speaker 1: dump it over here, and a little bit behind with it.
- 42:02Speaker 2: It was. It was impressive, and then.
- 42:04Speaker 5: He had tight ends and then he had the big
- 42:07Speaker 5: catch on the sideline where he was impossible to take
- 42:10Speaker 5: down where he's just you know, taking shots but still
- 42:13Speaker 5: in the bounds.
- 42:15Speaker 1: And I had to throw that in there too, because
- 42:16Speaker 1: he also is a walk on in the program for
- 42:19Speaker 1: a long long time, stuck with it.
- 42:21Speaker 2: He's gonna get dividends this year. I mean, it really is.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Run game, Emma Johnson game. There's no one he's It's
- 42:33Speaker 5: gonna be a long season. I'm worried that he won't
- 42:36Speaker 5: be able to hold up because he was twenty five
- 42:38Speaker 5: carries out of the.
- 42:41Speaker 1: I'll tell you what, and I'm with you on the worry.
- 42:45Speaker 1: That's not an uncommon take watching this back on TV.
- 42:50Speaker 1: It was good out of anybody that I was going
- 42:53Speaker 1: into the year of like, all right, I've heard the
- 42:55Speaker 1: hype of this guy getting better or coming in and
- 42:59Speaker 1: gonna be damn good. It was Emmett Johnson saying, no,
- 43:02Speaker 1: I can be a workhorse back. Now it comes with injury.
- 43:07Speaker 1: But you want to talk about a guy all the
- 43:09Speaker 1: way through the game who was just taking shots and
- 43:12Speaker 1: shots and shots and just.
- 43:16Speaker 2: But he did.
- 43:17Speaker 1: He didn't have any breakaway like huge runs, but he
- 43:20Speaker 1: made a couple of times like a one yard loss
- 43:23Speaker 1: turned into a.
- 43:23Speaker 2: Three yard game.
- 43:24Speaker 1: He made a two yard game turn into a seven
- 43:27Speaker 1: yard game, just because of his extra push and toughness
- 43:32Speaker 1: that he has. I was very impressed with Emmett getting
- 43:37Speaker 1: the ball that many times too, and sustaining it throughout
- 43:39Speaker 1: the game.
- 43:40Speaker 5: He had thirty two This is just catches. I'm not
- 43:43Speaker 5: telling targets, but thirty two possessions between runs and passes
- 43:46Speaker 5: of our sixty eight offensive plays.
- 43:50Speaker 2: The ball is in his hands.
- 43:52Speaker 5: The ball is in his hands. So that's why I
- 43:55Speaker 5: got a little nervous. He again, he looked like a dude.
- 43:58Speaker 5: He looked really good. Twenty five touches for one hundred
- 44:01Speaker 5: and five, twenty five runs for one hundred and eight yards,
- 44:03Speaker 5: and then seven catches for twenty seven yards. But and
- 44:09Speaker 5: obviously they didn't give Nelson or Moozie really any other
- 44:13Speaker 5: any opportunity to do anything with the ball. They both
- 44:15Speaker 5: only got one carries, but one carry each.
- 44:19Speaker 1: And I don't I don't know enough about running backs
- 44:22Speaker 1: to watch a game and go, this looks good, this
- 44:25Speaker 1: looks bad.
- 44:26Speaker 2: It's hard to tell about being a coach.
- 44:29Speaker 1: I thought Emmett came out the gates and looked very
- 44:32Speaker 1: like he's played football for I'm gonna say that about
- 44:36Speaker 1: Isaiah Mosey and McKay nelson. They looked like freshmen and
- 44:39Speaker 1: they didn't get many touches. I don't think that was
- 44:42Speaker 1: the plan going into the game today. You watched their
- 44:45Speaker 1: first couple of carries. They look timid. I'm not bashing
- 44:48Speaker 1: on freshmen, but I kind of hate him. They looked timid.
- 44:51Speaker 2: They just wanted to get their toes. They gits the
- 44:53Speaker 2: whole hard.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I was thinking maybe we wouldn't see that those two
- 45:00Speaker 1: early on their first couple of touches, when we tried
- 45:02Speaker 1: to give them an opportunity, they just looked scared. And
- 45:06Speaker 1: that might be why Emma ended up getting twenty five
- 45:08Speaker 1: carries in a game that you don't have much room
- 45:11Speaker 1: for error.
- 45:12Speaker 2: And so I don't know.
- 45:14Speaker 5: Two highest russures. It wasn't even like Heinrich had two
- 45:17Speaker 5: carries and Bonner had two carries, and both the freshmen
- 45:20Speaker 5: had two carries total between the two of them. So
- 45:23Speaker 5: I mean they clearly wanted to go with experience.
- 45:27Speaker 2: They're like.
- 45:29Speaker 1: My mind, I disagree. I don't know that they I
- 45:31Speaker 1: don't think that they were trying. I don't think the
- 45:33Speaker 1: intention going into the game was to give it to Emmett.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I think the I think going in and then they
- 45:38Speaker 1: watched Emmett and then they watched Mosey, and I'm.
- 45:42Speaker 2: There were a couple of runs.
- 45:43Speaker 1: I just was early on, I was like, oh God,
- 45:45Speaker 1: and I think the coaches probably went, oh God, like,
- 45:48Speaker 1: these guys aren't ready yet for a game like this.
- 45:51Speaker 1: So emmittt Hey calling down to Emma Johnson on the field, Hey,
- 45:55Speaker 1: emmittt you're ready to go, because you're gonna get twenty
- 45:57Speaker 1: plus this.
- 45:57Speaker 2: Game is just be ready. I think that one.
- 46:00Speaker 1: I don't think it was designed for Emmett to get
- 46:02Speaker 1: twenty five carries. I don't think I could be wrong,
- 46:04Speaker 1: but I just thought early on those two freshmen didn't
- 46:07Speaker 1: look ready, and Emmett obviously looked experienced.
- 46:12Speaker 2: So that take on the run game.
- 46:14Speaker 5: Let's see the run game outside Emmett did not look good.
- 46:17Speaker 5: And with the ball, it's like, oh, this guy's pushing
- 46:19Speaker 5: the like we weren't getting we were getting decent holes
- 46:22Speaker 5: and he was finding the holes. But there were a
- 46:24Speaker 5: lot of times where it was like, oh, he just
- 46:25Speaker 5: pushed that pile two yards, so it was like it
- 46:28Speaker 5: was really a one yard carry, but he pushed it
- 46:29Speaker 5: for three.
- 46:30Speaker 1: So I'm a little bit away from that. Like, I
- 46:34Speaker 1: thought our offensive line gave some good holes, and it did.
- 46:37Speaker 5: They did.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I thought that they I Emmett did not. Emmittt got
- 46:43Speaker 1: us an extra couple of yards when the contact was made.
- 46:45Speaker 1: There weren't many times that Cincinnati was just clogging up
- 46:50Speaker 1: the run game early on.
- 46:51Speaker 2: They did a few times.
- 46:53Speaker 1: I thought our offensive line played good, like like above average,
- 46:58Speaker 1: like I I I would like very happy with it.
- 47:01Speaker 1: And so yeah, our run game overall, like I'm pretty
- 47:04Speaker 1: satisfied with it. Big big mention here outside of Emmett
- 47:09Speaker 1: our run game, there's one other thing that was awesome.
- 47:13Speaker 5: Umbles but no fumbles.
- 47:17Speaker 2: No, we push pushed like four times, three times.
- 47:21Speaker 1: And that's that's one play that I ever since it's
- 47:24Speaker 1: now in football, why teams don't do it?
- 47:27Speaker 2: Is just beyond me.
- 47:29Speaker 1: I mean, come on, you have to have an novlinsive line,
- 47:31Speaker 1: but you really don't. I mean when you when you're
- 47:34Speaker 1: trying to get a yard.
- 47:35Speaker 5: I am surprised it hasn't made its way into college
- 47:37Speaker 5: football yet, not even like one team.
- 47:41Speaker 1: It's here now, thanks, thank you, thank you, think you,
- 47:43Speaker 1: thank you. Dana rule like we needed a yard and
- 47:46Speaker 1: it's funny no one's talking about it because it looks
- 47:48Speaker 1: so easy. Every time people are maybe used to I
- 47:51Speaker 1: don't know, used to it. We we went up there
- 47:53Speaker 1: three times. One time we got I think four yards
- 47:55Speaker 1: off of it in the first half and maybe Cincinnati
- 47:59Speaker 1: wasn't ready for it. And if you're not ready for
- 48:01Speaker 1: the touch push and you don't practice it against it, yes,
- 48:04Speaker 1: it's very hard to stop. Now, will teams be ready
- 48:07Speaker 1: for it and say, okay, when it's third and short.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Embraska's coming out. It's like they do with the Eagles.
- 48:13Speaker 1: They're they're going to come out on third and short,
- 48:15Speaker 1: fourth and short. Here's what we get to stop it.
- 48:17Speaker 1: I don't think it's Naty new we were going to
- 48:18Speaker 1: do that because we've never shown it. So that was
- 48:20Speaker 1: huge though, I mean it was four four times that
- 48:23Speaker 1: we converted a third or fourth down in you know,
- 48:27Speaker 1: within a one or two yards, So that was encouraging
- 48:29Speaker 1: as well. Heinrich got to run a couple of those there,
- 48:33Speaker 1: so I I thought the offensive line, kudos to that group.
- 48:39Speaker 1: I was very encouraged with some of the holes that
- 48:42Speaker 1: we got the runs. We did not have many runs
- 48:45Speaker 1: that went from not eight to forty, like do you
- 48:51Speaker 1: want a couple of those? Yes. I also again think
- 48:54Speaker 1: that's a lot of the way Cincinnati was playing. You know,
- 48:56Speaker 1: they're they're playing zone coverage. They're not they're not loading
- 48:59Speaker 1: the box a lot and taking risks. They're just playing
- 49:01Speaker 1: the back end. So that's gonna result in a lot
- 49:03Speaker 1: of the type of runs that we had, and we
- 49:05Speaker 1: took what we got and it was enough to.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Win the game.
- 49:09Speaker 5: I agree. Yeah, I guess my last couple of like
- 49:12Speaker 5: overall offensive comments one penalties pretty limited. I think we
- 49:17Speaker 5: had one false start, that we had the unncessary roughness
- 49:19Speaker 5: on the first drive, which was a freaking killer.
- 49:21Speaker 1: But yeah, a couple that first one and that came
- 49:25Speaker 1: from Latowsky, who is supposed to be our leader on
- 49:27Speaker 1: the line. That that hurt, uh two that hurt that
- 49:32Speaker 1: that goal line one that hurt. I mean, that's that's
- 49:35Speaker 1: not one that anybody's like, why.
- 49:36Speaker 2: The fuck we did? It was just like when it happened,
- 49:38Speaker 2: we're just.
- 49:38Speaker 5: Like, oh god, yeah that one hurt. My other it's again.
- 49:43Speaker 5: I thought the offense looked fine. You don't feel great
- 49:46Speaker 5: coming away with only twenty points, primarily because we played
- 49:50Speaker 5: we had twenty seven more plays with them than the opponent,
- 49:53Speaker 5: like twenty seven more plays than they had.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Or are the ones that in the third it was
- 49:58Speaker 1: sixty one to thirty six. At one point on our
- 50:01Speaker 1: eighth towards the end of the game, it was like, oh.
- 50:04Speaker 5: Boy, we had the possession. We had it almost twice
- 50:07Speaker 5: as long as they did. We want forty ft to
- 50:09Speaker 5: twenty minutes, and we only scored twenty points, which I
- 50:12Speaker 5: understand that's kind of design of the game of we're
- 50:14Speaker 5: gonna because this is what we have to do against
- 50:16Speaker 5: better teams. But you'd like, you'd like to execute a
- 50:21Speaker 5: little better in the red zone than what we did.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Yeah, the good new is this. I think all this
- 50:28Speaker 1: stuff and in rules post games spoke to it. We
- 50:31Speaker 1: got a couple, we got things to work on. I
- 50:34Speaker 1: don't know what the expectation was from the coaching staff
- 50:36Speaker 1: standpoint coming into this game. You know, whether they can
- 50:40Speaker 1: watch film and say, okay, we're better than we should
- 50:43Speaker 1: beat Cincinnati by X amount of points, and then you know,
- 50:45Speaker 1: we squeak out a one score win. I think getting
- 50:47Speaker 1: the one score wins most important number one. And then
- 50:50Speaker 1: you figure out things you need to work on. There's
- 50:52Speaker 1: clearly a lot of things to work on here. You
- 50:54Speaker 1: got a couple of good weeks to do it, and
- 50:57Speaker 1: then you face Michigan and the rest of our schedule
- 51:01Speaker 1: where now, who knows Ucla could be bad after they
- 51:05Speaker 1: got killed by Utah. Northwestern could be bad getting killed
- 51:09Speaker 1: by Tulane who.
- 51:11Speaker 5: They disrespected New Orleans. You know that's why Northwestern got killed.
- 51:15Speaker 5: Don't disrespect New Orleans?
- 51:17Speaker 2: Do you know what? It's kind of funny not thinking
- 51:20Speaker 2: about it.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Whether I'm starting to talk about choking up wins already
- 51:24Speaker 1: these next two games, we can chock up wins.
- 51:26Speaker 2: I really do.
- 51:27Speaker 1: I that is regarding us as a program. Acker and
- 51:32Speaker 1: Houston Christian are not good football teams.
- 51:35Speaker 2: Akron. How about Achron? This week?
- 51:38Speaker 5: The zips I didn't see what their score was?
- 51:40Speaker 2: Don't look ten zero Wyoming beat them ten zero.
- 51:44Speaker 1: So what I'm saying is we got some time to
- 51:47Speaker 1: work on some stuff on both ends of the ball.
- 51:50Speaker 2: We were talking about special.
- 51:51Speaker 5: Teams too, because solid, it.
- 51:56Speaker 2: Just it just is what it needs to be.
- 52:01Speaker 1: Now, and maybe a little bit of beyond that because
- 52:03Speaker 1: the early fifty two yarder discuman and drilled. Yeah, and
- 52:11Speaker 1: it does. It makes a big difference when you have
- 52:13Speaker 1: a punter like Archie who put two inside the ten,
- 52:17Speaker 1: like were they at the two yard line? No? I
- 52:18Speaker 1: mean those are like excellent, He's gonna do it this year.
- 52:23Speaker 1: But like the punts that he just put it right
- 52:26Speaker 1: out out of bound with the nine yard line and
- 52:27Speaker 1: is like okay, like my job's done.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I think it's brain works, like okay, you're welcome. I'm done.
- 52:34Speaker 2: Let me know when you need me again. Like, yeah,
- 52:37Speaker 2: it was good.
- 52:38Speaker 5: It was very decent, Like yeah, we I mean granted
- 52:41Speaker 5: all the punts, he didn't have to hit a big punt.
- 52:43Speaker 5: I don't even know what I feel like. We moved
- 52:45Speaker 5: the ball pretty close to half midfield before we had
- 52:47Speaker 5: the punt. Anyways, each time, Yeah, three punts inside the twenty,
- 52:52Speaker 5: couple inside the ten, got fifty two yard field goal
- 52:56Speaker 5: and two for two on field goals. It was exactly
- 52:58Speaker 5: what it needed to be. Nothing. It kept the game moving,
- 53:03Speaker 5: but it you know, put them in the defense and
- 53:06Speaker 5: better positions, and solved a couple of solutions, solved a
- 53:10Speaker 5: couple of problems for the offense. So our return game
- 53:14Speaker 5: still not really existence. No, no, you know, but that's
- 53:19Speaker 5: just a product of the game and where the ball's placed.
- 53:21Speaker 1: And yeah and yeah, the power returns, I thought, I
- 53:24Speaker 1: mean there, we didn't have many opportunities there.
- 53:26Speaker 2: I just watching it back, and they were right there
- 53:29Speaker 2: when we caught it. We don't. Real does not like
- 53:31Speaker 2: the fair catch. We know that.
- 53:33Speaker 1: So he wants guys to make plays, and I think
- 53:35Speaker 1: Eckler does too, obviously coming in with all.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Of his previous positions and success.
- 53:39Speaker 1: So special teams, it's hard to make a Here's the
- 53:43Speaker 1: thing of special teams.
- 53:44Speaker 2: It's it's difficult to make.
- 53:46Speaker 1: A game changing play on special teams.
- 53:49Speaker 2: But when you do, or I should say, it's difficult.
- 53:52Speaker 1: To make a great play on special teams, but when
- 53:54Speaker 1: you do, they're usually game changing. It's also where you
- 53:59Speaker 1: can make game losing plays by really messing up, and
- 54:03Speaker 1: we've done a lot more of that than the opposite
- 54:06Speaker 1: the opportunities here tonight. We didn't make a game changing
- 54:10Speaker 1: play necessarily, but we have a good, solid game from
- 54:13Speaker 1: a special teams unit. And again also yourself in the foot.
- 54:18Speaker 5: We're pointing out or learned sav Archie Wilson. None of
- 54:20Speaker 5: the punts were returnable. Nope, that's that's exactly what you
- 54:26Speaker 5: want inside the twenty unreturnable.
- 54:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so last big comedy I am here on the game.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Did we close it out exactly how we wanted it to?
- 54:44Speaker 2: No?
- 54:45Speaker 1: Probably not well if you're if you're measuring on wins
- 54:49Speaker 1: and losses, and yes we did. But I want to
- 54:53Speaker 1: call out our last There are two places that I'm
- 54:58Speaker 1: going to give a little more credit to our one
- 55:00Speaker 1: credit to our defense here right after we go forward
- 55:04Speaker 1: on fourth and two.
- 55:07Speaker 2: On I believe that was our opening drive in the
- 55:09Speaker 2: third quarter.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Yeah, Cincinnati gets the ball, a couple of big plays,
- 55:14Speaker 1: goes down scores. I didn't realize how early in the
- 55:17Speaker 1: second half this all this happened. They get the ball
- 55:20Speaker 1: back four minutes left in the third, up three. All
- 55:25Speaker 1: the momentum has just completely gone Cincinnati's side. Right now
- 55:30Speaker 1: we got the ball coming out of half.
- 55:33Speaker 2: Stopped.
- 55:34Speaker 1: They score, we get stopped again. Cincinnati comes out and
- 55:40Speaker 1: our defense goes three and out and Sawn mccola makes
- 55:43Speaker 1: a big play Batton down the storesby pass and then
- 55:47Speaker 1: we get a coverage sack on third down three and out.
- 55:53Speaker 2: That stopped. That was huge at that point in the game,
- 55:56Speaker 2: like it gave us.
- 55:59Speaker 5: It stopped the It felt like it felt like the
- 56:01Speaker 5: game was turning because we had like a it was
- 56:03Speaker 5: like a seventh It was like, I don't know what
- 56:05Speaker 5: was it, six minute drive to open the game the
- 56:07Speaker 5: third quarter, and we did score. It's just like, oh no.
- 56:11Speaker 2: And that drive. Remember too, had.
- 56:15Speaker 1: The fourth and two like it could have been a
- 56:17Speaker 1: pick six, like it almost it was right there.
- 56:22Speaker 2: It was.
- 56:22Speaker 1: It was it felt like, Okay, we're hanging on by
- 56:24Speaker 1: a thread here right now, and the defense came out
- 56:27Speaker 1: in a big stop there, so I wanted to call
- 56:29Speaker 1: it that drive.
- 56:29Speaker 2: I thought that was huge. And then fast forward to
- 56:32Speaker 2: the end of the game when.
- 56:36Speaker 1: They we went down scored, we get the ball seven
- 56:42Speaker 1: minutes up three. So this was after they scored to
- 56:46Speaker 1: go twenty to seventeen. We get the ball up three
- 56:49Speaker 1: with seven minutes to go. What has this these teams
- 56:52Speaker 1: done in the pasturing over, we'll turn it over position
- 56:57Speaker 1: or we run.
- 56:59Speaker 5: It past the ball. Don't get the clock to run you.
- 57:01Speaker 1: Don't, well, yeah, we give them the ball back.
- 57:03Speaker 2: They get it. They have five minutes left for the
- 57:04Speaker 2: you know, their last drive.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Now, ideally, would you like go down to score and
- 57:09Speaker 1: just put the nail on the coffin. Yes, but we
- 57:11Speaker 1: had the ball seven minutes up. Three Dana comes out first,
- 57:15Speaker 1: three places past, past.
- 57:16Speaker 5: Pass, Yeah, and call it what you want, but that's
- 57:23Speaker 5: that is what they were giving us.
- 57:26Speaker 2: We got the first two first towns on those plays.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Little questionable on when we were snapping the ball, you know,
- 57:33Speaker 1: in their four or five left. Yes, but there's a
- 57:37Speaker 1: fine line there of.
- 57:41Speaker 2: Momentum and drives and all.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Of that, like and we we have we've we've also
- 57:44Speaker 1: done the all right, seven minutes left, let's run the
- 57:47Speaker 1: clock down the two seconds and running three times and
- 57:49Speaker 1: give them the ball back with four and a half
- 57:50Speaker 1: minutes left and see what happens. So there was still
- 57:53Speaker 1: a little bit of aggressiveness there. Did it end in
- 57:55Speaker 1: a touchdown? No, but we took five minutes off the clock.
- 58:00Speaker 1: Biggest thing we made them use all three of their timeouts. Yeah,
- 58:04Speaker 1: and then Archie pins them inside the ten. That drive, well,
- 58:09Speaker 1: while not perfect, was huge for their last drive than
- 58:13Speaker 1: to have to work the whole way down the field,
- 58:14Speaker 1: no timeouts, loud crowd like that matters. So wanted to
- 58:18Speaker 1: call out that drive few of the fine line of
- 58:21Speaker 1: being aggressive without overdoing it from from data.
- 58:24Speaker 2: I know maybe some.
- 58:25Speaker 1: People like you mentioned it like the past, past past,
- 58:28Speaker 1: but I think at the same time, when they're seven
- 58:29Speaker 1: minutes slept, it's time and situation is is that enough
- 58:34Speaker 1: time to just say get super concerned. I think you
- 58:36Speaker 1: gotta you gotta find that fine line there, and I
- 58:38Speaker 1: thought that drive had a pretty damn good job. Now
- 58:40Speaker 1: that did not result in points, that's best case scenario, but.
- 58:46Speaker 2: At least we had a somewhat.
- 58:48Speaker 1: Of a game killing ending drive that that helped. So
- 58:54Speaker 1: and then yeah, obviously we mentioned full circle of the
- 58:56Speaker 1: hard slot, big play at the end after.
- 58:59Speaker 5: They're still in the having enough time to get in
- 59:01Speaker 5: a field goal range and probably correct could have done
- 59:05Speaker 5: more damage if they didn't interception correct.
- 59:09Speaker 1: So I was writing down notes. Last note I wrote
- 59:12Speaker 1: was we win in all caps like in a circle.
- 59:14Speaker 1: It I just I think that it's huge to win
- 59:19Speaker 1: this game not in perfect fashion. A lot of things
- 59:22Speaker 1: to work on, but this game did not go, did
- 59:25Speaker 1: not go any different than.
- 59:27Speaker 2: I thought it would. I've been wrong on a lot
- 59:30Speaker 2: a lot.
- 59:30Speaker 1: Of games in the past on this is style. This,
- 59:36Speaker 1: this is how Matt Rule wants to play and wants
- 59:37Speaker 1: to win right now.
- 59:40Speaker 2: With the players that we have.
- 59:41Speaker 1: I don't think we have the talent and the players
- 59:43Speaker 1: and explosiveness to go out and beat teams like Cincinnati,
- 59:48Speaker 1: who I don't think it.
- 59:49Speaker 2: They're not great.
- 59:50Speaker 1: Cincinnati has a chance to make a bowl game, like
- 59:53Speaker 1: they're a Power five school.
- 59:55Speaker 2: They're not.
- 59:55Speaker 1: I don't think they're Northwestern either, and they'd beat Northwestern
- 59:59Speaker 1: by a couple of touchdowns. So I do think that
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: it's always good to get a win here.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: There's a lot of things to work on. But it's
- 1:00:11Speaker 2: like we're wan to No. Three and oh want to no.
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: Focus on Michigan this week.
- 1:00:17Speaker 5: Focus on Michigan. Wow, you are look at you?
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: I text, I text, I texted Dak.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: I said, huh, we're gonna be both Oklahoma and Michigan
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: or Oklahoma and Nebraska gonna be prepping for Michigan this week.
- 1:00:32Speaker 5: Wow. This is so what? This is a new Hunter.
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: It's not a new Hunter. It's not a new Hunter.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: It's Acron. Houston Christian are horrible.
- 1:00:40Speaker 5: You you literally last year even like we can't overlook
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: any games.
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: We can't.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: We're not that good. We can't overlook any games. There
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: are people out there choking. It's not a win.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: These games you can overlook. There's there's most games. You
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: can't overlook.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: These games you can. They're not good.
- 1:00:59Speaker 5: What percentage to go to be the Achron one hundred
- 1:01:01Speaker 5: and both of them? Did you really.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: Actually no?
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I think Akron I gave ninety nine. I think I
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: gave a hundred using Christians.
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: That's what I thought.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: I came under using Christian that's for sure.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: All right, Well, we can't get Dak's comments because he's
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: not responsible.
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: He's recovering.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: He's recovering.
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: So we even moved it back to eight am for
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: him this morning, but he's he still couldn't get that
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: to work. So we'll get his thoughts on Thursday and
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: we will talk some Akron zips see if they can
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: score their first points of.
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: The year against us. Hopefully not, but my gut says yes.
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I think the opening spread, the opening line came out.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: It was thirty four and a half when it opened.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: I don't know what it moved to, so.
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: I think I guess I saw thirty four.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: And a half as well. So yeah, we're not losing.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: If we lose a podcast will be ending fair enough.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: Heay o be gread.
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: Hev are
- 1:03:07Speaker 2: Beca
