- 0:00Hello there, I'm Tyler. Griffin and This is Scripture
- 0:03study. Insights by Scripture Central.
- 0:06Today, first Nephi chapters. 16 through 22 as we finish.
- 0:11Off the book. Of first Nephi today?
- 0:13There are incredible stories. In here that we're going to
- 0:17spend a little bit of time covering, as well as our first
- 0:20introduction to the book of Isaiah in the Book of Worm.
- 0:24We get 2 chapters. Before we dive into the actual.
- 0:28Block of scriptures I wanted to share with you.
- 0:31One of my favorite lifelong learning perspectives on how to
- 0:39get more out of my. Scripture study.
- 0:43And I'm going to. Do it this way.
- 0:45I'll just I'll diagram. A Scripture page.
- 0:48Here on the screen, and so you've got.
- 0:53All these pages of holy writ. That come down to us from
- 1:00prophets in ages past, and one thing that you'll find.
- 1:07Is that they're really? 3 domains, 3 dimensions if you
- 1:13will. Or spheres or worlds associated
- 1:17with your scriptures and your Scripture.
- 1:18Study the 1st. Dimension, so I'll just label
- 1:24this as #1. The first dimension is.
- 1:28The world or the sphere or the? Domain that resides underneath
- 1:35the scripture pages underneath. The words, if you were to pick
- 1:39up those words. And look underneath them, you
- 1:43will find an entire world. Filled with people, with,
- 1:49culture with. Traditions and customs and
- 1:53societal norms and languages. Often many languages, not just
- 2:00the one being spoken, but sometimes the one being spoken
- 2:03and then the one that's actually being written.
- 2:06We see that, for instance, in the New Testament, where Jesus
- 2:09and his apostles are speaking predominantly Aramaic, but the
- 2:13New Testament books are being then written in Greek and then
- 2:17later translated into Latin and into English and other
- 2:20languages. In the Book of Mormon, you have
- 2:23a group of people who are speaking Hebrew and forms of
- 2:27Hebrew through through time. But the words are being
- 2:31scratched. Into metal plates using
- 2:33Egyptian. Characters.
- 2:35So there's there's. Already a a translation going on
- 2:39in the actual world underlying the actual.
- 2:42Scripture page. So this world is big.
- 2:47It it's. It's vast, and for many people
- 2:50it's kind of complicated and complex and so some.
- 2:52People are scared of it, this world right here.
- 2:56Happens to be the. Purview.
- 2:58Of of many biblical. Scholars or scriptural scholars?
- 3:02Where they spend all, if not most, of their time studying and
- 3:07immersing in. The world's that have produced
- 3:11these scriptures for US. Studying the languages and the
- 3:14and the connections there, now we come to the second dimension.
- 3:20Of scripture study. It's the the words.
- 3:22On the actual page, it's what you can see sitting in front of
- 3:26you, and it is a. Whole.
- 3:28World or a dimension all to its own you have in this dimension.
- 3:35You have repeat words. You have.
- 3:40Doctrines, principles, stories, speeches, conflict.
- 3:46You have relationships, struggles and relationships,
- 3:50successes. You have people doing all kinds
- 3:53of things, good and bad and everything in between.
- 3:57You have people moving towards God and people moving away from
- 4:01God. It it's this whole.
- 4:03World that the Lord gives to us that resides.
- 4:07On the actual page in the language in which you're.
- 4:11Reading the scriptures. This world, now, it's big
- 4:15enough. This dimension, this sphere is
- 4:17big enough. That it could take.
- 4:20All of our time looking at the. Words.
- 4:23That are on the page and and just doing extensive studies for
- 4:27the rest of our lives and it would be inexhaustible.
- 4:30We would never get to the bottom of it.
- 4:32Elder Maxwell used to refer to it as the inexhaustible Gospel.
- 4:36Well, the same could be said. For the.
- 4:38World or the dimension that lives under the scriptures, you
- 4:43could spend your entire life in that in that world or in that
- 4:47sphere and never get to the bottom of it.
- 4:50Because there's. So much time and history and
- 4:55culture going on there. Now we get to the third
- 4:58dimension. If you want your scripture study
- 5:01to become more 3 dimensional, then don't leave out.
- 5:05The world that lives above the scripture page.
- 5:11The world that these words. And the the culture and history.
- 5:16That produced these words that they actually have the capacity
- 5:20to. Create this, this dimension or
- 5:23this. Sphere for us, this world, if
- 5:25you will. In which we live.
- 5:28This is. The realm of application.
- 5:32Where we say, OK, so I. Learned those principles.
- 5:35Or I saw that. Teaching or I was introduced to
- 5:38that doctrine on the scripture. Page, but how does it?
- 5:42Translate into my life. How does it help me build my
- 5:46relationships? With God, with the Savior, Jesus
- 5:50Christ. With my loved ones.
- 5:52With my enemies. With.
- 5:53Others. How does it influence who I am
- 5:57and how I live my life? Brothers and sisters, the beauty
- 6:01of this. 3 dimensional view of scriptures.
- 6:05Is to say that there's. It's not a competition.
- 6:09It's not like one of these worlds.
- 6:11Is the best. And the.
- 6:13Others are are lesser. Siblings in the scriptural
- 6:16family. The idea being that if you can
- 6:19find ways to increase. Your knowledge, your ability.
- 6:24To see and seek. For truth.
- 6:28In any one. Of the three spheres.
- 6:30Will actually enhance your capacity to find greater meaning
- 6:36in the other two realms as well in the other two dimensions.
- 6:40So it would be. Let me give you just a scenario
- 6:43if somebody were to say you know what, I don't care about the
- 6:48languages. Of the scriptures.
- 6:49I don't care about learning anything about Hebrew.
- 6:52Or about Greek. There's some pretty good
- 6:55precedents for this. The Prophet Joseph Smith.
- 6:59The further he got into his prophetic ministry, especially
- 7:04interacting with Scripture, the more he became interested in
- 7:09diving into the world underneath.
- 7:12The Scriptures he. Wanted to learn Hebrew.
- 7:15He. Hired a Hebrew teacher.
- 7:17He wanted to learn. Greek.
- 7:19He wanted to create a grammar and and learn how to read and
- 7:24decipher Egyptian. He.
- 7:26He read in German. He wanted to know all of these
- 7:31different aspects underlying the scriptures and the world.
- 7:37That produced those scriptures. And if you look at President
- 7:41Russell M Nelson, he he has spent a lot of time looking at
- 7:46these. Worlds.
- 7:48That are underlying the. Scriptures.
- 7:50Looking at what the? The word.
- 7:51For instance, repentance comes to us in English from the Greek
- 7:56Metanoeo, looking at the word hesed from the Hebrew.
- 8:02That's all stuff that our our. Prophets give us that reside in
- 8:07the world underneath the scriptures.
- 8:10So you could. Spend some time, for instance,
- 8:13in Webster's 1828 dictionary. If you're trying to make more
- 8:19sense of the performance and you want to understand this world,
- 8:21here you could begin. At the scripture page level.
- 8:26On the page looking. For words that you.
- 8:29We assume we understand what they mean, or maybe they're
- 8:31confusing to us. Look them up in the Webster's
- 8:351828 dictionary and. You'll get a better.
- 8:39Idea of what they meant in the day in which the Book of Mormon
- 8:43was translated in 18291830 and that will increase your.
- 8:49Ability. To then create more wisdom and
- 8:53more discipleship and more conversion, not just for
- 8:56yourself. But for those?
- 8:57That you you teach and interact with in the world that we live
- 9:01in today. And as you move forward, what's
- 9:03more you can, you can enhance your study.
- 9:08Of the scriptures. By paying attention to some of
- 9:12the things. That are created.
- 9:13In this dimension or the? Sphere that resides above the
- 9:17scriptures. Especially if you pay more time
- 9:22and attention. To what?
- 9:24The prophets. Are telling us about the.
- 9:26Scriptures. They live in this.
- 9:28World of ours that that resides above the Scriptures.
- 9:32And there is an authority that is given to prophets, sears and
- 9:36revelators when it comes to scriptures that nobody else has,
- 9:40nobody else has. Access to certain things like
- 9:43the prophets do. And yet we live in a world that
- 9:48almost encourages people to not listen to the prophets, but to
- 9:51say no. Come learn of me.
- 9:53That's thin ice from my perspective, when the prophets
- 9:57have made certain things clear in the scriptures.
- 10:00We should probably. Pay attention to those and
- 10:03figure out how to better apply them in our own life.
- 10:05So in quick review A3 dimensional view of the.
- 10:09Scriptures will look a little bit like a.
- 10:11House fitly framed. Together we begin at the.
- 10:14Lowest level with. A nice foundation or our
- 10:19basement if you will. The under, so starting with.
- 10:23AU here with that shape. And then we go to the O building
- 10:27the walls and the. Floor of our house, that world
- 10:31that is. On the.
- 10:32Page of the Scripture. And then we end.
- 10:35With the roof over our house. That is fitly framed together
- 10:40above the application of all those principles and brothers.
- 10:46And sisters, it's a better. Experience when that house is
- 10:49fitly framed together in a way that makes sense for you now.
- 10:52Some are going to spend more time underneath in that world,
- 10:56and some are going to spend more time on the page in that
- 10:59dimension and that sphere, and others are going to spend more
- 11:01time above it. That's fine, but the invitation
- 11:05is don't ignore the other dimensions.
- 11:08Make make them all come to to bear in our study of the Book of
- 11:12Mormon this year and see if it deepens your.
- 11:15Appreciation for these scriptures.
- 11:17And their ability to change your life and to to provide those
- 11:22things that you need to move forward on the covenant path.
- 11:24Now with that foundation, let's dive in.
- 11:28So chapter 16 is. Where we start our story today,
- 11:33we're. Out in the wilderness, Nephi is
- 11:36speaking to his brothers, declaring unto them truth.
- 11:39And they say. You're you're.
- 11:41Giving us hard things. And he continues to work with
- 11:47them until they hearken to the truth.
- 11:50And then verse four says, And it came to pass that I knew if I
- 11:52did exhort my brethren with all diligence to keep the
- 11:55commandments of the. Lord, I love this he's.
- 11:59Working with them in. Their real world?
- 12:02Setting to keep the commandments of the Lord And where are they
- 12:04getting many of the commandments?
- 12:05It's from. The Lord directly through
- 12:07revelation to Lehigh. The Prophet as well as on the
- 12:11scriptures, So they humbled themselves, and then we.
- 12:16Can start progressing. They all get married, and Nephi
- 12:20mentions that he had been exceedingly.
- 12:22Blessed of the Lord. I love that ever since the day I
- 12:26got married, I have been exceedingly.
- 12:28Blessed of the Lord. Most of the blessings that that
- 12:31God has given me in my. Life as I if.
- 12:35I were to sit down and count my many blessings.
- 12:38I can't think of any of them. That I would be able to say.
- 12:42Oh, I accomplished that. With just the.
- 12:44Lord and me alone, without the help of Kiplin, my Angel.
- 12:48My bride, everything good that has flowed.
- 12:54From heaven into my life, she's been either at my side or been
- 12:58the. Source or or directly related to
- 13:03that. Experience of feeling
- 13:05exceedingly. Blessed of the Lord.
- 13:08Like Nephi. So then we're introduced to the
- 13:12Liahona Chapter 16, verse 10, this round ball of curious
- 13:18workmanship. And I love looking at this
- 13:21Liahona through the lens of her from the.
- 13:24Perspective of scriptures like we have here You've got a.
- 13:30Ball A round ball. Of curious workmanship.
- 13:33And and if we're. Not careful we'll.
- 13:35Spend so much time trying to figure out what the Liahona
- 13:38looks. Like or where?
- 13:39It came from or who delivered it and and.
- 13:42How it actually? Works and functions that we
- 13:45might miss the messages that are written on the.
- 13:48Book or the? Directions that are given on
- 13:50the. Ball or the directors?
- 13:52Which would then mean we totally miss the point of where it's
- 13:56trying to lead us so. If you look at this there,
- 14:00there's some. Powerful.
- 14:01Indicators of how they. Interacted with the Liahona that
- 14:07I think would benefit me today and you and all of.
- 14:13Us collectively if we paid a. Little more attention.
- 14:17To the world that. Resides on the scripture.
- 14:19Page associated with this. Liahona or this director?
- 14:23This compass pointing the way to them.
- 14:27Now what does the Liahona do? Let's.
- 14:29Just grab a couple of verses here verse. 16 We did follow the
- 14:32directions of the ball, which led us in the more.
- 14:36Fertile parts of the. Wilderness.
- 14:39You recognize that there They're going.
- 14:43Through a part of. The land that we assume they've
- 14:45never been through. Before.
- 14:47They're having to be. Guided by this, this compass or
- 14:49this Director. And they needed to know where
- 14:53the more. Fertile parts of the.
- 14:55Wilderness would be and. How do they?
- 14:58How do they stay in those? Fertile parts.
- 15:01Notice verse. 28 and 29 It came to pass that I Nephi beheld the
- 15:05pointers which were in the. Ball that they did.
- 15:07Work according to the faith and diligence, and heed which we did
- 15:13give unto them. And there was also written upon
- 15:16them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which should
- 15:19give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord.
- 15:22And it was written and changed from time to time according to
- 15:27the faith and diligence which we gave unto it.
- 15:30And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring.
- 15:35About great things. We always tend to to credit
- 15:40Mormon with the and. Thus we see phrase.
- 15:44Nephi is the first one to use it in the Book of Mormon.
- 15:47Here he's giving you the lesson. It's small means.
- 15:51Whereby that the Lord. Brings about great things.
- 15:55Like a little. Round ball of.
- 15:57Curious workmanship, like the world.
- 16:00That resides on the. Pages of scripture like the
- 16:04world that. Resides in the realm of.
- 16:06Prophetic. Teachings and warnings and
- 16:11directions that are given to us. It's beautiful when you see how
- 16:16they when they're faithful and they're giving heed to what
- 16:20God's telling them. They stay in the more fertile
- 16:23parts of the wilderness. When they're unfaithful, God
- 16:25doesn't smite them. He just.
- 16:28Gives them direction that they don't pay attention to and so
- 16:30they end up in non fertile places.
- 16:34Same thing. With our scripture study.
- 16:36Same thing with giving. Heed to the words of the living
- 16:41prophets that God. Has given us today.
- 16:44So with that, we start. Off on our journey and you
- 16:49notice in verse 18 it came to pass the design if I went forth
- 16:52to slay. Food.
- 16:52Behold, I did. Break my bow and we we talk more
- 16:56about all of these principles in the the.
- 17:00Legacy. The repeats of the videos that
- 17:04Taylor. Halverson and I did.
- 17:06Four years ago. In the Book of Mormon, so.
- 17:08For for greater discussion. On each of these points you can.
- 17:11Refer back to those. I'm just hitting them quickly as
- 17:14we go. Through.
- 17:16In in this. Series so you you'll.
- 17:19Notice. There, that he takes.
- 17:21Ownership. He uses the active voice I did
- 17:24break. My bow, he doesn't say.
- 17:26My broke, my bow did. Break he.
- 17:28He. He's 100% responsible if you've
- 17:32never. Read the talk by Elder Lynn G
- 17:36Robbins. Given at BYU in an Education
- 17:38Week. Called be. 100% responsible.
- 17:43I would highly. Recommend it to you in the
- 17:46context of taking the principles from Scripture and not sitting
- 17:52back and making excuses for why we're not keeping them.
- 17:55Or. Why Bad things are happening,
- 17:58but to take ownership over our life and to change the way we?
- 18:02See our role. In this covenant progression and
- 18:06our responsibilities with those around us as well.
- 18:08It's a powerful talk. Once again, it's called.
- 18:10Be 100% responsible. Now Ishmael dies in.
- 18:19Verse 34 and he's buried at a place that is called.
- 18:23Nahom and you'll notice it wasn't the Lehigh group that
- 18:27named it Nahom. It was already named Nahom and
- 18:29and that location there is a location right in the route that
- 18:34Nephi has been describing that we have found.
- 18:38Archaeologists have found that is called Nahom.
- 18:40This place of consolation and and sorrowing.
- 18:45So then. After.
- 18:49Claiming that they're going to. Slay father.
- 18:51Lehi Now and Nephi. As well.
- 18:55Lehmann and Lemuel. And some of the.
- 18:56Others who have been complaining and murmuring.
- 19:00Their, their subdued. And it says verse 39 it came to
- 19:04pass. The Lord was.
- 19:05With us even the. Voice of the Lord.
- 19:08Came and did speak many words unto them because they've been
- 19:12saying they've been claiming Nephi has been using his.
- 19:15Power to to trick us with what he's.
- 19:17Putting on the Lee Ahona as if it's this magical instrument
- 19:21that he's taking away the ruling of the people out of their
- 19:23hands. So it's the voice of the Lord.
- 19:26That comes to them and chasing them exceedingly.
- 19:31And now we get into Chapter 17. We are given the command through
- 19:39Nephi to. Build a ship.
- 19:42Now can you picture? The response when.
- 19:47Nephi comes down off of the mountain and starts making
- 19:53tools. I can picture Laman and Lamia
- 19:57looking at him saying, Nephi, come on, what What are you
- 20:00doing? What do you think you're doing?
- 20:02You've never you've never built any kind of boat before, let
- 20:06alone an ocean going vessel. Come on.
- 20:09And. I love this because you see, it
- 20:13would be very. Easy for Nephi.
- 20:16To give ear to the voice. And the the the wisdom quote.
- 20:21UN quote of the World. And to get discouraged, but.
- 20:27Nephi. Has a different vision.
- 20:29Remember what happened to him back in chapter 11/12/13 and 14
- 20:34when when the spirit of the Lord and then an Angel showed him
- 20:38multiple scene changes of all these things that would
- 20:41transpire in the future? Well, one of those.
- 20:44Big Chapters Chapter 12. Was all about the Nephite and
- 20:48Lamanite scenes in the New World and and.
- 20:51Nephi saw his posterity. And Lyman and Lamiel's posterity
- 20:55in the New World, which means Nephi has a different
- 21:01perspective on this command to build a ship than Lyman and
- 21:05Lamiel do. He he knows some things that
- 21:08they don't. So when God said build a ship,
- 21:11Nephi is saying. OK, so that's how.
- 21:13God's going to bring to pass these things that I've already
- 21:16seen, and I love the steadiness that comes.
- 21:20With prophets. Of God who have seen things, who
- 21:25know things. So there's no hesitation on
- 21:28Nephi's part, he says. I'm going to build a ship and
- 21:32God's going to help me do it, and I need some oar to make some
- 21:37tools. I know I'm going to have to
- 21:38start there. So that's how he He begins with
- 21:41the Lord. The command comes in verse 8 to
- 21:44construct the ship. In verse nine he says.
- 21:46Lord whither? Shall I go that I might find oar
- 21:48to molten that I might make? Tools to construct the ship, he.
- 21:53He. Knows it's going to happen, and
- 21:55I love that steady faith. What he didn't know was how he
- 22:00was going to do it. And I think that we can see that
- 22:04pattern with our prophets, our Sears, and our revelators today.
- 22:08They will often get these revelations of what we need to
- 22:11do, and they'll make announcements.
- 22:14They'll they'll give us some direction to do things in a
- 22:18higher and holier way, and they don't always give us the
- 22:21handbook of how God. Expects us to give.
- 22:26Faithful, diligent, heed to the words that He's giving us in our
- 22:31world today, not. Just from the world of the past
- 22:34on the scriptures. But our modern prophets as well.
- 22:36And then we get to. Figure out the how.
- 22:39Which Nephi models? Beautifully how to thrive.
- 22:43In this world above. The scripture page, or above the
- 22:48words of the prophets or the. Direct direction given by God,
- 22:54so we get this long chapter 17. Where his brothers are.
- 23:00Bearing a false testimony to him in verse 21 and 22, telling
- 23:05Nephi we might have been happy if we had been allowed to stay
- 23:09in Jerusalem, and the reality is if they'd stayed in Jerusalem,
- 23:14they. Probably.
- 23:15Would not have been any happier than they are out here, because
- 23:19happiness isn't. Dictated by where you.
- 23:21Live happiness is dictated by how you live.
- 23:26And so they're telling him in verse 22.
- 23:29We know that the people in Jerusalem are righteous.
- 23:32We know that that that they're good.
- 23:34So they're bearing this testimony.
- 23:36And then notice how Nephi follows it up.
- 23:38Verse 25. Ye know, ye know.
- 23:40Ye know. Three times in verse 25, two
- 23:43times in verse 26, one time in verse 27, one time in 28 and one
- 23:48time in 29. Are you noticing we're living
- 23:50now? We're swing around in this.
- 23:52World of. This dimension on the.
- 23:53Scripture page looking for these repeat.
- 23:56Words and phrases. It's beautiful to see how Nephi
- 23:59counters. What they were.
- 24:01Claiming to know with what he knows, and because of his
- 24:06visions and because of his prophetic insight, he does know
- 24:10some things that they don't yet. So he's trying to to teach them
- 24:15now when you get. Over to the.
- 24:18Beginning of chapter 18 it says. It came to pass.
- 24:20That they did. Worship the Lord Lord.
- 24:23And did go forth. With.
- 24:24Me and we did work Timbers of curious workmanship.
- 24:30I love that workmanship. Did you catch it?
- 24:36They're. Building a ship using curious
- 24:39workmanship. I I I think this is more than
- 24:42just a a fun play on. Words that.
- 24:45That's. Residing in this this.
- 24:48World of the Scripture. Page because I think.
- 24:52What it does is it? It provides an opportunity for
- 24:55us to then. Reflect above the scripture.
- 25:00Page in. Our life today at the various
- 25:03ships that the Lord. Is asking you and me to build
- 25:09both individually and collectively.
- 25:12There there are. Relationships that maybe you've
- 25:16never had to build. Before or repair before.
- 25:20There might be companionship in missionary settings.
- 25:25Or other relationships. There there might.
- 25:29Be courtship or scholarship or leadership or.
- 25:35Citizenship or Friendship, Fellowship.
- 25:40Mentorship. You can look these up.
- 25:43A fun exercise for a family or a class would be in 60 seconds.
- 25:47Write down as many English words as you can think of that end in
- 25:49the words or in the letters SHIP, ship, and go and see how
- 25:54many they can come up with. It's fascinating because there
- 25:56are so many of them. And then to have people pick the
- 25:59one that they're working on building right now and say if
- 26:04Nephi were to jump. Off of the page, Out of the
- 26:07world. Of 600 BC.
- 26:10Into our world that's here above the scripture.
- 26:13Page What might he tell us about building our ships today?
- 26:18Brothers and sisters, I, I. Think he might say.
- 26:22There was a. Lot more going on than building
- 26:26a disciples. Ship to get us across the ocean.
- 26:30I think he might say one of the most important ships you have to
- 26:34learn how to build. Is your discipleship through
- 26:40your worship of the Lord. Notice how he goes on to say.
- 26:45What he did, the Lord did show. Unto me from time to time, after
- 26:51what manner I should work the Timbers.
- 26:53Of the ship. It's time to time.
- 26:57Things aren't given all at once up front, even to incredible
- 27:01prophets like Nephi you. You have to be.
- 27:04Patient with this process verse 2 now I mean if I did not work
- 27:08the Timbers after the Manor which was learned by men,
- 27:11neither did I build the ship after the Manor of men.
- 27:13I think it would be safe to say because he hadn't spent a lot of
- 27:17time down at the. Shipyards of 600 BC.
- 27:19Jerusalem isn't near the ocean, relatively speaking so.
- 27:24It, of course. It's not going to be built the
- 27:26way most men would have built ships in the day, he says.
- 27:30But. I did build it.
- 27:31After the manner. Which the Lord had.
- 27:33Shown unto me. Wherefore it was.
- 27:35Not after the manner of men, I think there's a principle.
- 27:40Here for us in. Building our relationships
- 27:42today, not after the manner of the.
- 27:44World but after. The manner of the Lord shows.
- 27:46US in verse 3. I ne if I did go into the mount
- 27:49OFT and I did pray OFT unto the. Lord, wherefore the Lord?
- 27:55Showed unto me great things. I love the fact.
- 28:02That he's not relying on. The the experts of the world.
- 28:07He's relying on God throughout the entire process of building
- 28:11the ship that is then going to take them across the sea and.
- 28:17You get that voyage. Across the ocean in the rest of
- 28:20Chapter 18, with the storm and being driven back, you get all
- 28:24that straight. And then the landing in the new
- 28:26world and the establishment of the the colony over here.
- 28:30And then he introduces us in chapter 19 to his process of
- 28:36making plates, and he's telling us a little bit about this, and
- 28:41he's relying on the records. And he tells you in verse 9.
- 28:47The world because of. Their iniquity shall judge him,
- 28:51being the Messiah to be a thing of not.
- 28:56Wherefore they scourge? Him and he suffereth it, and
- 28:58they smite him and he. Suffereth it.
- 29:00Yeah, they. Spit upon him, and he.
- 29:03Suffereth it. Because of his loving kindness
- 29:06and his long-suffering towards the children of men.
- 29:09And then he quotes. 3 prophets in rapid.
- 29:12Succession in verse 10, Zenoch, Naum and Zenes and everything
- 29:18he's quoting from Zenoch, Naum and Zenes are things that Nephi
- 29:23is a witness of from Chapter 11. In first Nephi it has to do with
- 29:28Jesus Christ and what would happen to him.
- 29:31And then verse 11 it says. For thus spake the prophet and.
- 29:36Then it goes on. Can I just give you something
- 29:38to? Look for if you'd.
- 29:40Like to mark your scriptures in this sphere of living in the
- 29:44domain of the words on the page. Look for the word prophet or
- 29:49prophets. In chapter 19202122 and see what
- 29:56happens when you notice how Nephi uses that that.
- 30:00Word or that label. Prophets and how God?
- 30:04Feels about these. Chosen servants of his and then
- 30:07ask yourself the question as you transfer from the dimension of
- 30:11on the. Scripture page to our world
- 30:14today. And.
- 30:16Perhaps we could ask. Ourselves the question.
- 30:18How do we feel about the prophets that God?
- 30:21Has given us. How much are we trusting in them
- 30:25the way that Nephi is trusting in the prophets that he had in?
- 30:29His Scripture. Pages and in his day back in 600
- 30:33BC, it's beautiful. Now he jumps into chapter 20 and
- 30:3721. If you want to have a lot of
- 30:41fun, dive in here with the perspective.
- 30:45Swim around in these pages with more understanding.
- 30:50Beneath the words of the pages about Isaiah, this is your
- 30:52first. Introduction to Isaiah in the
- 30:53Book of Mormon Living, 100. Plus years before.
- 30:57Nephi here in Jerusalem, but his whole focus is on trying to get
- 31:03people to come into this covenant connection with God and
- 31:07to be gathered into the. House of Israel, So read.
- 31:11Chapter 9 or Chapter 20 and 21 Through the lenses of the
- 31:15gathering of Israel and find more meaning in the world of
- 31:23Isaiah's day. That produced these words.
- 31:26Find meaning in the. Words that are.
- 31:28Residing on that page and then don't end there.
- 31:32Make your Scripture study three-dimensional by paying
- 31:34attention to what our? Modern prophets and apostles
- 31:37have told us about the. Scattering and now the
- 31:40subsequent gathering of Israel. Of which we are.
- 31:43All being invited to take a major part in in.
- 31:47These the latter days. And then he finishes with
- 31:50chapter 22 with Nephi giving you his conclusion.
- 31:53So 19 is his introduction to Isaiah 20 and 21.
- 31:57Are the 2 chapters. From Isaiah and then 22 is his
- 32:00conclusion to finish up brothers and sisters discipleship.
- 32:07Is. Fueled and motivated and
- 32:11enhanced by understanding. God's will for us.
- 32:17By understanding the doctrines and the principles and the
- 32:21truths that he would have us incorporate into our lives.
- 32:25And we can find many of them on the pages.
- 32:28Of Scripture. By better understanding the
- 32:30world's that. Created those scripture pages
- 32:33but. We can also understand them
- 32:34better by paying attention to the.
- 32:37World's. And the dimensions that those.
- 32:39Scriptures create for us. Today and the.
- 32:43Ability that our prophets have to be.
- 32:44Able to give us ongoing direction from God on high as we
- 32:50move forward, building all kinds of ships in all.
- 32:54Parts of the world. I know God lives.
- 32:58I know that Jesus is the Christ, and I know that he loves and
- 33:03upholds. His.
- 33:05Profits and he does. That because he loves.
- 33:09You and me. And he wants us to know the
- 33:12truth. And that is the pattern that he
- 33:14has chosen. To give the whole world.
- 33:18Some of these big truths and then he will give us our
- 33:21individual truths through the. Power of the holy.
- 33:23Ghost in our own spheres of influence and to govern our own
- 33:27lives and for that. All of those 3.
- 33:30Dimensions of scriptures in their study.
- 33:33For that I am. So grateful.
- 33:36And I leave that with you. In the name of Jesus Christ,
- 33:39Amen. Know that you're loved and happy
