Herminie Cadolle: The Corsetmaker Who Invented the Bra

Herminie Cadolle spent her twenties on the barricades of the Paris Commune and did time in a Versailles prison for it. Sixteen years later, working out of a lingerie shop in Buenos Aires, she cut a corset in two and invented the garment that would become the modern bra - patented in Paris in 1898, and still made by her own family six generations on.

This episode covers her disputed birth records, her ongoing life as a Communard radical through the 1880s, the actual 1889 unveiling (the same World's Fair that debuted the Eiffel Tower), and the house she built.
