Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by gymjag.com I'm Jordan Aluga thanks so much for being here Tuesday March 3rd and right now we are talking about some trades inside the AFC South what the heck are some of these AFC South teams doing?
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: Regarding their roster is heading into 2026, specifically the Houston Texans who had a very busy day on Monday, but the titans have also made a trade that left some people scratching their heads a little bit.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll dive into all of that here, normally we're specifically talking about the Jaguars, but we do need to look at what the AFC South is doing here.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: how that's going to impact their matchups with the Jaguars, how it's going to impact the Jaguars matchups with these teams.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: And the Jaguars ability to potentially run it back in the F.C.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: Siles, something that not a lot of teams have done over the years.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_00]: Something the Jaguars have never done in the F.C.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: Siles has went back to back championships, division titles.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Excited to get into it.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.

- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button, helps us out a ton.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: So, Houston Texans, they made two trade yesterday.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: They gave up a fourth round pick, a 2027 seventh round pick.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: Starting offensive linemen, Titus Howard, and former starting offensive linemen who became kind of a backup down the stretch, juice scrugs.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_00]: So again, a fourth round pick, a seventh round pick, a starting offensive linemen, a backup offensive linemen.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: And really, Titus Howard, they're best, they're best offensive linemen.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: I would say, in return, they got David Montgomery and a fifth round pick.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, and that trade was a 4th round pick in 2026, a 7th round pick in 2027 for David Montgomery.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, should you be trading a 4th round pick in a 7th round pick for David Montgomery?
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: No, I really don't.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: And I like the player.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's always liked him.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: I liked him in the draft coming out of Iowa State.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've always been a fan of his game.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_00]: But the guy is about to be 29 years old.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: He has over 1,500 career carries.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: He is a real, I mean, he's a touchdown, like machine basically over the last three years he scored.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_00]: 15 touchdowns in 2023, 12 in 2024, eight in 2025.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: The guys are really good football player.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's tough runner, physical runner.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's not super explosive, right?
- 2:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's a reason they drafted Jamir Gibbs in the top 10 or whatever it was.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see it, man.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't see trading a fourth round pick in a seventh round pick for this running back.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_00]: When you have other alternatives, that's just my opinion.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: Did they get better in that trade for 2026?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, probably.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: But was that like a good team building move long term?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: for David Montgomery to be the David Montgomery that we have seen over the last three, four, five years.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_00]: You need a really good offensive line.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Do the Texans have a really good offensive line.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion, offensive line has been the biggest thing holding the Texans back over the last couple of years.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: In a big way.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_00]: Look at their depth chart now.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: Titus Howard's gone.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: A aging, off-endured, Trent Brown, Ed Ingram, Jake Andrews, Jared Patterson, Arionte Ursary and Blake Fisher.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's about the most uninspired offensive line group, I think I can think of in the NFL.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of the Browns who just acquired their best offensive lineman, the Browns, I think every single one of their starters was set to hit free agency or whatever, but now at least the Browns have tied his Howard, they can build around that.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Tied his Howard's a damn good player.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: why on earth are the Texans getting ready to their rid of their best offensive lineman for a fifth round pick the tightest Howard has consistently been a very good player for the Texans uh... i'm lost on that one man it doesn't make any sense to me you know he helps protect your quarterback in a big way
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: And he's been moved around.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think he's a really good starting right tackle.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: They've moved him to guard.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_00]: They've had him play in both guard spots this past year.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's obviously best as a right tackle.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's, I haven't listened to what the Browns are gonna do but I would imagine that's what they're gonna do.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: Saving that tackle where he should be.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: A team can only go as far as they're offensive line and as far as they're offensive line coaching and scheming can take them.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: Unless the Texans are about to use every one of their draft picks, which by the way, they don't have that fourth round pick anymore.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: On offensive linemen, I don't know how this offensive line and look, the Texans are another team where they don't have cap space.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_00]: They're about just the same cap situation as the Jaguars.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, you can clear things up a little bit here and there.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: But...
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't follow.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Plain and simple, I don't follow getting rid of Titus Howard.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't follow like the long-term growth mindset of getting David Montgomery to me.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: That's a win now move, but you don't have a win now offensive line.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: And quite frankly, I was pretty uninspired by what Nick Kayley did as the offensive coordinator in year one.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, amazing defense, absolutely.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_00]: A bunch of banches, but I'm not seeing it here.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: Now, what you can't say about them is,
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: They've got their quarterback and look, I strongly believe in CJ Strauss still.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: I think he has been greatly let down by his offensive line and his offensive coordinator the last couple years.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: I really do.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think CJ Strauss can be, and he's developed some bad habits during that time too.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: Guess what?
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: So to Trevor Lawrence.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: And then you see a competent offensive line and a really good play collar and all of the sudden things come together for the young quarterback, right?
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: So look, I believe strongly in CJ Strauss.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: They have really good receiving core.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: They have good running backs.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: They do not have an offensive line that you can get excited about.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I mean, I still think that they could be a playoff team as constructed just because of that defense and the skill position talent in the quarterback, but they're not going far with that offensive line.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't think so.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: And that's great, you know, great for the jags.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, sure.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Keep trading away your best offensive linemen.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: The last two years, they've traded away their best offensive linemen.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're too best.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, okay.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: And then the Titans, they traded away to Vandre's sweat to the Jets for your main Johnson.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: And,
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: That move was heavily criticized, a little confusing.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: I do think Tavandres Wet is a better player than Jermaine Johnson is.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think Jermaine Johnson
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: In Robert's solid system, we've seen that before.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's been really good.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, in 2023, Dremaine Johnson had a really good year.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: He dealt with injuries in 2024.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, nobody on the jet's defense had their best year in 2025.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: So, I understand why Robert's solid wanted Dremaine Johnson wanted his guy back starting defensive end.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: If you feel like you can be a balanced player, high effort player, I've always liked Dermany Johnson, I've always thought he was a good player.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: But Tavondre sweats peak and the kind of super power that you get with having a Jeffrey Simmons any Tavondre sweats.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think was worth getting rid of for Dermany Johnson personally.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now, maybe there is like off-field question, not like he's a bad dude, right?
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, conditioning issues, weight issues with Tevandre sweat throughout his career, that type of stuff.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: But I still think he's just a better player, than Germain Johnson.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: As much as I do like Germain Johnson.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think it's like a completely horrific move for the Titans.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: It does upgrade their edge group, which needed upgrading.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: I just think if anything, it's kind of a lateral move.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: So interesting for them.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a ton of cap space, draft capital.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see what they end up doing.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: They have the ability to really change the make-up of their roster over the next couple months.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see what they end up being able to surround Cam Ward with and all that good stuff.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: but I think the Texans got significantly worse.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Even though they got better at running back, they lost draft capital and over the last two years, they've traded away their two best offensive linemen.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy, crazy, crazy.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what you think in the comment section below if you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
