- 0:00Speaker 1: Live from the WOR LifeVac studios, the Mark Simone Show. Hey,
- 0:07Speaker 1: let's take some calls. Let's go to Linda in Long Island. Linda,
- 0:11Speaker 1: how you doing?
- 0:13Speaker 2: Not that great. Hi, Mark. I got a little cold.
- 0:15Speaker 2: I don't sound like me.
- 0:18Speaker 1: What? You don't always sound like this.
- 0:21Speaker 2: No, I mean. I can't believe it got cold, and
- 0:24Speaker 2: I got a cold, right?
- 0:26Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Are you all right? Oh, my God.
- 0:28Speaker 1: You got a cold. What are we going to do?
- 0:29Speaker 1: That's right.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Who knows now, right? Calm down.
- 0:31Speaker 1: It's just a cold. It'll go away. One day.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Okay. It's going to warm up, I heard.
- 0:38Speaker 3: All right.
- 0:38Speaker 2: So I'm shocked. They're starting this again. Somebody, an honest
- 0:42Speaker 2: Democrat or Republican, should do something about this. I never
- 0:46Speaker 2: got this before. Well, I didn't get it. Kathy Hochul,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and it says acting commissioner Christian Jackstadt is sending out
- 0:58Speaker 2: now again to people.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Hey, you got to tell us what you're talking about.
- 1:02Speaker 1: What are you talking about? Just get to the point.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I got a notice to renew state ID.
- 1:11Speaker 1: What's the point?
- 1:11Speaker 2: State ID from Kathy Hochul.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Now, she died 10 years ago.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Who?
- 1:19Speaker 2: The Department of Motor Vehicles.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Who died?
- 1:21Speaker 2: To renew it.
- 1:23Speaker 1: All right. Listen, I hope you get better. Good luck
- 1:26Speaker 1: with your cold. I can't figure out what the hell
- 1:27Speaker 1: you're talking about, but good luck with the cold. Let's
- 1:30Speaker 1: go to Jim in New Jersey. Jim, how you doing?
- 1:33Speaker 3: Mark, you talk about all these hookers descending on the
- 1:36Speaker 3: UN in New York. You know where the term hooker
- 1:39Speaker 3: came from, Mark?
- 1:40Speaker 1: No.
- 1:42Speaker 3: It came from the Civil War. Okay. The North was
- 1:46Speaker 3: basically losing the war for the first three years. Lincoln
- 1:49Speaker 3: was firing general after general after general until he finally
- 1:52Speaker 3: settled on Grant. There was a general named Hooker? Yes,
- 1:56Speaker 3: there was a very handsome general named Joseph Hooker from Massachusetts,
- 2:00Speaker 3: and Lincoln put him in charge in 1862, and he
- 2:02Speaker 3: was a disaster. But all the women would follow the
- 2:05Speaker 3: Union Army around just to get a look at General
- 2:07Speaker 3: Joseph Hooker because he was so handsome, and that's where
- 2:10Speaker 3: the term came from. Hooker is a bunch of groupies
- 2:12Speaker 3: following around the Union Army. So that's that.
- 2:15Speaker 1: But did he use them as prostitutes? Did he do that?
- 2:19Speaker 3: No, they just followed the army around because they wanted
- 2:22Speaker 3: to get a glimpse of Joseph Hooker from Boston. You
- 2:24Speaker 3: can Google him later to see what he looked like.
- 2:25Speaker 1: All right, I've got to take a look at this guy,
- 2:27Speaker 1: Joseph Hooker. Let's go to JJ in New Jersey. JJ,
- 2:31Speaker 1: how are you doing?
- 2:33Speaker 3: Good, Mark. Thanks for taking my call. How are you today?
- 2:36Speaker 1: Let me check. Not bad, not bad.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Good to hear. I just finished reading the book about
- 2:43Speaker 3: Roy Cohn.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I was wondering if you knew him.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Because obviously they were very disparaging, I guess, with regards
- 2:49Speaker 3: to Donald Trump.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yeah, they make up this whole fake relationship that Cohen
- 2:54Speaker 1: was Trump's mentor. Not the case at all. Everybody knew
- 2:57Speaker 1: Roy Cohen. He was kind of a weasel of a guy.
- 3:00Speaker 1: He could be fun to be around, but vicious, vicious,
- 3:03Speaker 1: vicious guy, which made him a great lawyer. He was
- 3:05Speaker 1: probably the two greatest lawyers ever, Roy Cohen. And what's
- 3:12Speaker 1: his name? William Bennett Smith. But Roy Cohn, he was
- 3:18Speaker 1: a vicious guy. But he was one of Trump's lawyers.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Trump had 50 lawyers. Roy Cohn was one of them.
- 3:25Speaker 1: He was not a mentor to Trump. By the way,
- 3:27Speaker 1: at the time, Roy Cohn was the lawyer. He was
- 3:31Speaker 1: the lawyer for the Cardinal. He was the lawyer for
- 3:33Speaker 1: the Catholic Church. He was the lawyer for the New
- 3:36Speaker 1: York Yankees. He was Aristotle Onassis' lawyer. Everybody had Roy
- 3:40Speaker 1: Cohn as his lawyer.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Right, they even mention the mafia use them in certain situations.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Well, he did a lot of criminal stuff. If you're
- 3:46Speaker 1: a criminal lawyer, you're going to have mob guys coming
- 3:48Speaker 1: to you, but he was great. Edward Bennett Williams is
- 3:50Speaker 1: who I was trying to think of. Roy Cohn, Edward
- 3:52Speaker 1: Bennett Williams, two greatest lawyers. Edward Bennett Williams, a classy
- 3:56Speaker 1: genius of a lawyer. Roy Cohn, a dirty alley cat
- 3:59Speaker 1: street fighter, but he would get the job done. But
- 4:03Speaker 1: not the mentor of Trump, as they make it out
- 4:05Speaker 1: to be. Let's go to Tom in Queens. Tom, how
- 4:08Speaker 1: are you doing?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Hey, Mark, good morning. Uh, just one fun fact that, uh,
- 4:13Speaker 3: since Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of America,
- 4:19Speaker 3: we have not had one named hurricane at all. Huh?
- 4:24Speaker 1: Now don't say that. You're going to jinx it. You're
- 4:25Speaker 1: going to jinx it. But that's a, that's an interesting point.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Let's go to Fran Massapequa. Fran, how you doing?
- 4:32Speaker 3: I'll tell you that.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Tell you what, say it again. You're breaking up.
- 4:39Speaker 3: You know, she's not, She's not only ugly, but she's stupid.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Who?
- 4:43Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Who? To be an ugly woman.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Who are we talking about?
- 4:48Speaker 3: What?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Who are you talking about?
- 4:53Speaker 3: I said Hochul.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I'm sorry. It's not your fault. Your phone is cracking
- 4:58Speaker 1: up there.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Hochul.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Stupid. Yeah. Ugly. She's not ugly. I mean, she's not
- 5:04Speaker 1: going to win any beauty contests, but she's that kind
- 5:06Speaker 1: of average looking. She's not ugly.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Stupid.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, she's not the brightest woman in the world. She's
- 5:13Speaker 1: not stupid, but she's just a cheap politician. You know,
- 5:17Speaker 1: whatever way the wind is blowing, you know, she hates
- 5:21Speaker 1: Trump because everybody hates Trump. If everybody loved Trump, she'd
- 5:23Speaker 1: love Trump. It's just whatever way the wind is blowing.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You can thank Andrew Cuomo, by the way, another one
- 5:28Speaker 1: of his decisions. He's the guy that gave us Kathy Hochul.
- 5:31Speaker 1: He's the guy that picked her for lieutenant governor. Hey,
- 5:34Speaker 1: when we come back, the brilliant columnist Liz Peek, we'll
- 5:37Speaker 1: talk to her next. Lots to talk about with her.
- 5:41Speaker 1: On 710WOR.
