- 1:40Speaker 4: Hey everyone, this is your girl sc book out A
- 1:44Speaker 4: four three put tre scrimble. And it is another Tuesday night.
- 1:49Speaker 4: So y'all already know what we're doing, new book, new author.
- 1:55Speaker 4: We chatting, so everyone knows that what's coming up this
- 2:00Speaker 4: Sunday Mother's Day, that beautiful day we honor the women
- 2:07Speaker 4: in our lives. No notice, I said women and not
- 2:11Speaker 4: just mothers, because in a way, I feel almost every
- 2:15Speaker 4: woman has that motherly spirit, but there are some obstacles
- 2:19Speaker 4: might be in the way, and so I'm just like, hey,
- 2:21Speaker 4: I don't want none.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:23Speaker 4: Like, for an instance, I have one sister that has
- 2:26Speaker 4: no kids, but she got hold on five nieces and nephews,
- 2:34Speaker 4: so in a way she's like their second mom too.
- 2:37Speaker 4: So this whole month on Etsie bookals and friends, we
- 2:41Speaker 4: are honoring the mother mothers to be the auntie mommy's
- 2:46Speaker 4: women in general. Okay, so every author this month is
- 2:52Speaker 4: on a line in that category. Sorry, fellas. Next month
- 2:56Speaker 4: is for y'all. Okay, don't worry, you know, I gonna
- 3:00Speaker 4: forget y'all. But tonight I have an author with me.
- 3:04Speaker 4: She has several books, she got some journals, she had
- 3:09Speaker 4: a couple of kids, and the scene to be doing
- 3:13Speaker 4: real good because I'm hearing her talk and I'm hearing
- 3:15Speaker 4: like some high standards. Okay, so I'm gonna break up
- 3:19Speaker 4: the Cheryl Norton La Grant, come on up, Girley, come
- 3:24Speaker 4: on up.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Yes, all right, I am doing great this evening. Thank
- 3:30Speaker 1: you for allowing me to be up here.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you, thank you for being with me.
- 3:36Speaker 4: So before I go any further, Happy Woman's Day, Happy
- 3:40Speaker 4: Mother's Day.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you are so welcome.
- 3:46Speaker 4: So tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Okay. My name is Cheryl Northern Lagrant. I am originally
- 3:55Speaker 1: from Norton, New Jersey. I resigned the Nightdale, North Carolina.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I was in the military wife for fourteen years. That's
- 4:02Speaker 1: how I got here. Also, I started writing my books
- 4:08Speaker 1: after I got a divorce. It became my healing process.
- 4:12Speaker 1: So I started off. I had a family member come
- 4:16Speaker 1: to my house and feels like you have a story,
- 4:19Speaker 1: and it was truly a blessing. I was keeping kids
- 4:21Speaker 1: at the time, a lot of kids and I was like,
- 4:23Speaker 1: how can you do this? You know, I've been keeping
- 4:27Speaker 1: kids for a while. And what happened was was nothing
- 4:30Speaker 1: but God. When I started writing my books, I didn't
- 4:32Speaker 1: have no WiFi. I started writing my books on hotspot
- 4:37Speaker 1: and I just kept writing and pushing. And I made
- 4:40Speaker 1: a lot of mistakes at first, and people kept buying them.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And the next year, no, I just said stopped. I
- 4:46Speaker 1: didn't quit, and I you know, I tell anybody whether
- 4:49Speaker 1: you have money or don't money, money or no money,
- 4:52Speaker 1: just stuff out on face. So with me, it became
- 4:55Speaker 1: a journey. And at the time, I had a son
- 4:58Speaker 1: that used one side of his body will pause me.
- 5:00Speaker 1: So as I was pushing hem, I was pushing myself
- 5:05Speaker 1: and has been truly a blessing to be able to
- 5:08Speaker 1: share with the world your truth, your testimony, because it's
- 5:14Speaker 1: not about me. It's about another sure or another Mary one,
- 5:17Speaker 1: another job. So that's what keeps me going every day
- 5:20Speaker 1: when we here we get to serve it's not about us.
- 5:26Speaker 1: That is.
- 5:27Speaker 4: Everybody uses books as healing, and I noticed that a
- 5:33Speaker 4: lot working at the library. I've known a lot of
- 5:35Speaker 4: people to say, oh, I just want to get this
- 5:38Speaker 4: book just to read it. And the healing is sometimes
- 5:43Speaker 4: of information that they received. The healing sometimes is that
- 5:46Speaker 4: escaping getaway, and sometimes it's just pure entertainment. So I
- 5:54Speaker 4: just want you guys to know now, healing doesn't have
- 5:57Speaker 4: to be right, hard, harsh, even though most of it is,
- 6:06Speaker 4: I won't say most of it isn't most of it
- 6:08Speaker 4: is it. People don't look like their struggle. So how
- 6:17Speaker 4: does being a mother and being an author.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Work for you? At first, it was difficult because my
- 6:31Speaker 1: children was younger when I got started, but I involved them.
- 6:35Speaker 1: So my daughter and my sons, they started helping me
- 6:38Speaker 1: do my book covers. And that's one thing I learned.
- 6:40Speaker 1: You know, we have every nationality to help each other.
- 6:44Speaker 1: With me, everything I do, I involve my kids. So
- 6:47Speaker 1: in our trial and area, we became a team because
- 6:51Speaker 1: I was doing band with the football track and everybody
- 6:54Speaker 1: is two years apart, so can you imagine. And at
- 6:57Speaker 1: first I was angry and mad. You know, when you
- 6:59Speaker 1: get a avoid. I was married, like twenty years in
- 7:02Speaker 1: the military, wife, you be angry. But I think the
- 7:05Speaker 1: Lord that he turned my anger into dining. I had
- 7:11Speaker 1: friends and family that I travel with, but with me.
- 7:15Speaker 1: How it worked because I got my children involved, you know,
- 7:18Speaker 1: the same way we get them involved in ministry and
- 7:21Speaker 1: we have them go to church. I everything that I do,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I have my children, any business, anything I do, I
- 7:27Speaker 1: have my children get involved and I get involved with them.
- 7:30Speaker 1: So it's become a team. So it's no longer such
- 7:34Speaker 1: a struggle. They do the reviews, they'll look at and say, no, mom,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you need to take this out. You need to do
- 7:39Speaker 1: this out, or no, you write and like you speak,
- 7:42Speaker 1: you didn't change this, or you need to change that.
- 7:44Speaker 1: So with me, it became a blessing. Whenever you get
- 7:47Speaker 1: your family involved, your children with you, it'll become better
- 7:52Speaker 1: because in that way, it's like, Okay, I'm gonna spend
- 7:54Speaker 1: this time after you do their homework, do stuff with them. Okay,
- 7:57Speaker 1: we're gonna do this, and guess what they are doing this? Well,
- 8:00Speaker 1: now my son write books for the band and do
- 8:03Speaker 1: the covers. You don't know when God give us something,
- 8:07Speaker 1: it's not about us. We don't know what is planted
- 8:09Speaker 1: in our children when they see us. You know that
- 8:13Speaker 1: don't mean we perche we got it all together. But
- 8:15Speaker 1: He already is planting that seed and we don't know
- 8:18Speaker 1: what seed he's going to be planted. So they end
- 8:22Speaker 1: up what they helped me do. They doing it as well.
- 8:25Speaker 1: They're doing it in a different way, but they are
- 8:28Speaker 1: doing it now. So that's how I balance my life
- 8:31Speaker 1: out getting them involved.
- 8:34Speaker 4: I love that because I have to admit the generation
- 8:40Speaker 4: under me, they're not as involved with their kids like
- 8:44Speaker 4: they used to do. I am a very involved parent.
- 8:51Speaker 4: My kids are twelve years apart, yes, love twelve years fut.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Who and the last one?
- 9:04Speaker 4: This was a girl, y'all y'all? Yeah, usually I know
- 9:07Speaker 4: how I feel. So I have to admit being there
- 9:13Speaker 4: for her and all the activities that she's involving is
- 9:18Speaker 4: way more harder than it was for my son. But
- 9:22Speaker 4: I don't want to give her the end of the stick.
- 9:24Speaker 4: So I find myself having to take the time off
- 9:29Speaker 4: to be inside her programs. And if I can't make it,
- 9:33Speaker 4: I will tell her. I will tell her teacher, Hey,
- 9:37Speaker 4: I can't make it, but what is the next thing?
- 9:40Speaker 4: And I can show up And there are times she
- 9:42Speaker 4: doesn't even know that I'm in the building in the school.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not cutting you off, I think for me
- 9:50Speaker 1: not cutting off, I was told I will never ever
- 9:53Speaker 1: have to, so I didn't happen to thirty four, thirty six,
- 9:58Speaker 1: thirty eight. That makes a differen And I'm an older parent,
- 10:02Speaker 1: So I did things with them that me, growing up
- 10:05Speaker 1: in North I didn't want to do, and I didn't
- 10:07Speaker 1: do it. It's a totally do I was having a
- 10:09Speaker 1: good time. My children are totally the opposite of me.
- 10:13Speaker 1: They wanted to always be the leader and the flock,
- 10:17Speaker 1: so that out of my comfort zone and to be
- 10:24Speaker 1: I'm not gonna answer, so it would it will help.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I totally understand.
- 10:36Speaker 1: But that's what happened to me. Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 4: See, you had your kids at thirty five, thirty thirty.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Eight because the doctor told me I would never in
- 10:48Speaker 1: life have.
- 10:51Speaker 4: Yeah, you tell me that same thing too. Went to
- 10:55Speaker 4: the doctor for headache and came out with a whole baby. Okay,
- 10:59Speaker 4: oh my god, So how is it? How how does
- 11:05Speaker 4: it feel to have a have a baby that? Oh lord?
- 11:17Speaker 2: How did you do it?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Well, I'm gonna be honest with you, because I was.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I was getting ready to adopt. They told me I
- 11:24Speaker 1: would never have them, and my I came cycle with
- 11:29Speaker 1: all of them. But it was very challenging because I
- 11:34Speaker 1: had three emergency c sections. I had to push for
- 11:38Speaker 1: all three of them. Then after my daughter I had
- 11:42Speaker 1: procremcy in toxmia, they gave me a down syndrome book
- 11:46Speaker 1: because that's what they thought. But God is so good.
- 11:49Speaker 1: So I had to sign my daughter over to my
- 11:51Speaker 1: ex husband and my mom for maybe like four or
- 11:55Speaker 1: five months because with procremtion toxi, I stayed in hospital.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Then they told me not to ever in life have
- 12:02Speaker 1: another one. So when my ex telling got the went
- 12:06Speaker 1: to Fort Hood, I had my other son, which is
- 12:10Speaker 1: have se repositives one side of his body, but you
- 12:12Speaker 1: wouldn't know. You would think he got a little left
- 12:15Speaker 1: because you know, he's in a marching band, he played football,
- 12:18Speaker 1: he played tracks, so you wouldn't know because it's in
- 12:20Speaker 1: a life motor. Then with the last one, I was
- 12:25Speaker 1: thirty eight and I was at Fort Campbell and I
- 12:29Speaker 1: was really sick, and he took the military ID to
- 12:33Speaker 1: get my medicine and they did all my blood work
- 12:36Speaker 1: and I came home and he said the nurse got
- 12:38Speaker 1: something to tell you. I said, well, he said, well,
- 12:40Speaker 1: you're gonna have it for a long time. I said
- 12:42Speaker 1: what when she told me I was pregnant? Hours like,
- 12:46Speaker 1: are you serious? But it was dys timing because I
- 12:51Speaker 1: wasn't ready. And you know, we got to remember that
- 12:56Speaker 1: he knew what time when I was going to be ready.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I'm the oldest grand at that time, but I was
- 13:03Speaker 1: the It took me the longest. Stand They was like
- 13:06Speaker 1: sure having the baby, Sure having the babies like it,
- 13:08Speaker 1: like it went on the news. But and it's challenging
- 13:14Speaker 1: when you are older. Even now, I have one in Texas,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I have one in Greensboro. I have wanted drink. It's
- 13:20Speaker 1: it is challenging because my nerves are not like it
- 13:23Speaker 1: used to be. But I'm grateful that all three of
- 13:26Speaker 1: them graduated. I'm grateful that they all are busy. But
- 13:30Speaker 1: we got to pray more now because it's a whole
- 13:32Speaker 1: lot more go on now. So I don't know if
- 13:35Speaker 1: it's better to having when you're younger or you're older.
- 13:38Speaker 1: But to me, you don't get no book for being
- 13:42Speaker 1: a mother. You just have to pray. And then being
- 13:46Speaker 1: a single mind. On top of that were two sons
- 13:48Speaker 1: and a daughter, so it is that's something now.
- 13:54Speaker 4: It's you are so right with right now having kids
- 13:59Speaker 4: in this stay in age with everything that's going on.
- 14:03Speaker 4: I said, I don't I don't have a problem telling people.
- 14:06Speaker 4: My daughter that I found out the day she learned
- 14:09Speaker 4: my password totally not to change because you won't be
- 14:13Speaker 4: giving yourself extra screen time. Okay, phone shuts off at four.
- 14:19Speaker 4: I monitor what she looks at on TV. I am
- 14:22Speaker 4: very particular even in what she wears, because the influences
- 14:27Speaker 4: up today is totally different than influences that had back
- 14:34Speaker 4: in the day. We had Sweet Valley High and the
- 14:37Speaker 4: most dangerous thing they did was kiss and when they
- 14:41Speaker 4: would turn our heads or my grandmam be like, turn
- 14:44Speaker 4: your heads.
- 14:45Speaker 2: You don't need to look at that.
- 14:46Speaker 4: Now it's a little different ball game. Okay, So I
- 14:52Speaker 4: truly understand where you're coming from. How does how does
- 14:58Speaker 4: being an author affect your for writing as well? How
- 15:02Speaker 4: does being another affect your writing?
- 15:05Speaker 2: That's my question.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Sometime it could slow you down. When they was younger,
- 15:10Speaker 1: it did slow me down. I wanted to tell you
- 15:13Speaker 1: why you think you putting that phone down. You know,
- 15:15Speaker 1: if you got Wi Fi, they could turn it on
- 15:17Speaker 1: when you're not looking. So let me just let you know.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You may be turning off. But if your daughter got
- 15:21Speaker 1: Wild Fi, she could still be on the problem. But
- 15:25Speaker 1: what I want I'm just letting you know, heads up.
- 15:29Speaker 1: But what I'm saying is that it's challenging, you know
- 15:33Speaker 1: when you're a mother and you being an author, because
- 15:36Speaker 1: you want to put your all into them. But then
- 15:38Speaker 1: I learned how to say, okay, it's time for mommy
- 15:42Speaker 1: and I'm gonna I'm gonna do this at this time,
- 15:45Speaker 1: you know, because you have clubs, you know. But as
- 15:48Speaker 1: they get older, to me, it gets better because now
- 15:52Speaker 1: they're involved in different things that in college. They're in
- 15:56Speaker 1: the fraternity, they in the sorority, they have different stuff,
- 15:58Speaker 1: they doing music, so it mays it's a lot better.
- 16:01Speaker 1: But I can say it's still a blessing when I
- 16:04Speaker 1: have issues. I could still call my daughter and son
- 16:07Speaker 1: to this day to review my books for looking, and
- 16:12Speaker 1: that is the blessing. Or say my may don't think
- 16:15Speaker 1: you should do this book cover right here. That's not
- 16:18Speaker 1: saying anything. And like I said, my first couple of
- 16:21Speaker 1: books I made, I made mistake because I didn't have
- 16:24Speaker 1: no internet, like I said, I was doing it off
- 16:26Speaker 1: a hot spot, trying to publish it myself. But as
- 16:31Speaker 1: I got better and as I got learned and we
- 16:33Speaker 1: all did it together, it is surely a blessing when
- 16:35Speaker 1: they be honest with you. Some people tell you to
- 16:38Speaker 1: put it out, but my children are bowl and they
- 16:40Speaker 1: be honest. I don't think you should put that out
- 16:42Speaker 1: right now, and that to me is really humbling, and
- 16:47Speaker 1: I love the fact that we still have that collaboration
- 16:50Speaker 1: together even though we all live in different places.
- 16:53Speaker 2: You just took away my questions.
- 16:55Speaker 4: I was going to ask you, how does it feel
- 16:57Speaker 4: that I have the backing of the crew your kids?
- 17:01Speaker 2: How does it How does it feel to know that.
- 17:06Speaker 4: God yes, yes, yes, God too? How does it feel
- 17:12Speaker 4: to be like you know what, you got your own
- 17:15Speaker 4: support team like right there in needs.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Well, my aunt is a year older than me. Actually,
- 17:24Speaker 1: even how I met miss Angela, my aunt, I started
- 17:28Speaker 1: with her. We just called an author emotion. We're still
- 17:31Speaker 1: very close. We're in different business together now and she
- 17:35Speaker 1: is the one her and two other my friends. I'm
- 17:37Speaker 1: in business wich still. If the one came to my
- 17:40Speaker 1: house and put it they said, one day your children
- 17:42Speaker 1: are going to leave and you need to find something
- 17:45Speaker 1: because you do track, football and everything, But what about
- 17:48Speaker 1: sirl Because we can lose ourselves being a mother, a wife,
- 17:52Speaker 1: or whatever the case may be. Then we get a divorce,
- 17:55Speaker 1: you can go into depression. I thank the Lord that
- 17:58Speaker 1: I didn't stay there long. But they she was saying,
- 18:00Speaker 1: they are going to leave. I said, when I was
- 18:03Speaker 1: keeping kids. She said, okay, then I was doing lives
- 18:06Speaker 1: like I was doing lives every week, and I was
- 18:09Speaker 1: nervous about that. I would call myself. And then when
- 18:11Speaker 1: I started doing this, it got easy and easier. But
- 18:15Speaker 1: as they grow up to me, it get easy and
- 18:18Speaker 1: easier because we all live in different places and we
- 18:21Speaker 1: still collaborate. I mean, we get on zooms. And I'm
- 18:27Speaker 1: gonna say this for what's going on in the world,
- 18:29Speaker 1: because we don't know. We have to pray about what
- 18:31Speaker 1: I tridn't see out there. But I tell anybody the
- 18:34Speaker 1: world that we're living in because we don't know. You
- 18:36Speaker 1: can go to church and jump over the past the head.
- 18:38Speaker 1: You could do everything you do and everything right. We
- 18:41Speaker 1: don't know, but I would tell everybody try to get
- 18:44Speaker 1: involved with your younger adults. We tend to say, oh,
- 18:48Speaker 1: they sixteen, seventeen, they grown. No, they're not. That's when
- 18:52Speaker 1: we've really got to be involved in their life. Because
- 18:54Speaker 1: this technology, they know how to hide things. You think.
- 18:58Speaker 1: I like to think my daughter far by turning off,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and I was like, why is she laughing when I
- 19:03Speaker 1: come in the room because I had Wi Fi. So
- 19:05Speaker 1: if you turn your daughter phone off and you're not
- 19:08Speaker 1: home and she got Wi fied, she don't have to
- 19:10Speaker 1: have her phone off. She could steal FaceTime or talk
- 19:15Speaker 1: talk to her friends through that. So I want you
- 19:16Speaker 1: to know that when they're on the games, they could
- 19:20Speaker 1: talk through the Wi Fi through the game.
- 19:22Speaker 2: So yeah, yes, yes, what that.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Wi Fi you gotta pray about. And so I just
- 19:30Speaker 1: tell people just get involved with your family as much
- 19:33Speaker 1: as possible, because the world is getting involved with my children.
- 19:37Speaker 4: And you are so true to the fact that if
- 19:40Speaker 4: I turn my camra my background off, y'all.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it'd be a crazy situation.
- 19:46Speaker 4: But in this corner over here, all electronics are brought
- 19:48Speaker 4: in my room at night. The remote even comes in
- 19:52Speaker 4: my room.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Good, that's awesome.
- 19:54Speaker 4: I don't do that because I've been in situations before.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I've seen like kids on the phone twenty four seven,
- 20:04Speaker 4: when I even have little cousins come over. Because I
- 20:07Speaker 4: am an older cousin just like you, I'm the oldest,
- 20:10Speaker 4: So I do have younger cousins that are like ten
- 20:13Speaker 4: or eleven, and they would come over. Literally I would
- 20:18Speaker 4: tell them I just had a cousin of them. Maybe
- 20:21Speaker 4: spring break, Yeah, it was spring break.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I told my little cousin.
- 20:24Speaker 4: I said, we don't do screens all the time.
- 20:26Speaker 1: Here.
- 20:27Speaker 2: My daughter is.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Ten years old, guys, and we still got a Barbie
- 20:30Speaker 4: dream house.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Oh that's what. Yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I hate her her little friends and they're talking like
- 20:37Speaker 4: the little Barbie girl. And I remember that when I
- 20:40Speaker 4: was younger, and I take pride in saying I still
- 20:43Speaker 4: want her to enjoy her childhood. So what you're saying
- 20:48Speaker 4: is totally totally correct, and it's reaffirming how I feel.
- 20:54Speaker 4: So I want to thank you for that. So, out
- 21:00Speaker 4: of your kids, you're gonna have.
- 21:03Speaker 2: A little one who is your biggest critic?
- 21:07Speaker 1: Who the youngest one? That's he is? I could go
- 21:16Speaker 1: outside with the mama, you ain't mad? I mean, like, boy,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I want to go into the mailbox. He is. Here's
- 21:22Speaker 1: my outspoken like me and the other one say stuff.
- 21:26Speaker 1: But he's a little bit loud with no mama. I
- 21:30Speaker 1: mean like, I'm just going, man, you don't need that green,
- 21:32Speaker 1: blue and orange one. But he is. I'm gonna say
- 21:37Speaker 1: all of them but the youngest one is my biggest critic.
- 21:41Speaker 1: Even when I was going he was like, Mama, you
- 21:43Speaker 1: keep clicking off that hit. I was just click on.
- 21:47Speaker 1: She can hear us like he is. The youngest one
- 21:54Speaker 1: is my busiest one. He's traveled doing music. One like, yeah,
- 22:01Speaker 1: that that's the one I'd like. Just praying. I tell
- 22:04Speaker 1: all my children right now, I'm not worrying about them,
- 22:07Speaker 1: but pray who you around. That's my biggest thing. I
- 22:10Speaker 1: don't worry about them. I never once y'all get caught
- 22:13Speaker 1: up being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
- 22:15Speaker 1: That is my biggest Just be careful, especially with him
- 22:19Speaker 1: in the music industry. And my daughter, she's a critic too.
- 22:24Speaker 1: She's in law school in Texas third good Marshall, that's
- 22:28Speaker 1: what she's in grad school. But I'm gonna say even
- 22:30Speaker 1: my middle son, they all are critics. But my youngest
- 22:35Speaker 1: one is my biggest credit.
- 22:38Speaker 4: It's always that youngest one to me that has out
- 22:43Speaker 4: or outspoken personality or what I like to call him,
- 22:47Speaker 4: the family spokesperson.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yes, definitely.
- 22:52Speaker 4: And I got my little nephew. He suffers from short
- 22:58Speaker 4: man complex, but he and.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Please the youngest ones always.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Peez and the oldest ones to me seemed to be
- 23:13Speaker 4: the humble child.
- 23:15Speaker 1: And not for you. I'm gonna be honest with you.
- 23:21Speaker 1: My youngest, in my oldest roof, I was like, oo,
- 23:27Speaker 1: I mean even though they really smart, but I remember
- 23:31Speaker 1: she was in school, and I remember I was like,
- 23:33Speaker 1: cause I look at the same school for eight years
- 23:35Speaker 1: to each one, because you got to remember mins are
- 23:37Speaker 1: two years apart. So every band teacher she had, they
- 23:41Speaker 1: had they followed my daughter and football. Yeah, like even
- 23:48Speaker 1: at my daughter was in college fell, she did watch
- 23:51Speaker 1: your band. And my middle son, who was one side,
- 23:54Speaker 1: he did watch your band. He doing so well well
- 23:57Speaker 1: he was, and he was a contender. And see like
- 24:00Speaker 1: making his own music there doing certain things because he
- 24:03Speaker 1: can draw. And then my youngest one is doing music
- 24:06Speaker 1: where he's traveling. That is something in them. So they
- 24:09Speaker 1: kind of followed my daughter.
- 24:13Speaker 2: So your daughter is.
- 24:16Speaker 1: My daughter, the oldest and she away and test as
- 24:24Speaker 1: she got through with college, she said, Mommy, how you
- 24:27Speaker 1: feel about me going to grad school? And text I said,
- 24:30Speaker 1: you know what I left Jersey. I said, you gotta
- 24:32Speaker 1: follow your dreams and your heart and I said I
- 24:35Speaker 1: got your back, whether work or not, and make sure
- 24:38Speaker 1: it will be her last year and people be taking
- 24:40Speaker 1: the bar, you know, the test, but she's enjoying. She
- 24:44Speaker 1: don't like all these storms, but my daughter is there.
- 24:48Speaker 4: That is awesome. But that says a lot to you, Mam.
- 24:52Speaker 4: That says a lot for you. M I didn't tell
- 25:01Speaker 4: you about the last five minutes of my show. M
- 25:05Speaker 4: the last five minutes of my show.
- 25:07Speaker 2: I love to have fun.
- 25:09Speaker 4: I love music and I love TV movies, videos things.
- 25:16Speaker 2: So I'm gonna ask you some questions.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, who do you consider the best TV mom?
- 25:27Speaker 2: And why?
- 25:29Speaker 1: Mm hm? Who do I say? I used to like
- 25:33Speaker 1: Cincily Tyson for me?
- 25:36Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, okay.
- 25:40Speaker 1: The reason why she could play all type of roles
- 25:43Speaker 1: from the old to the young. But I think the
- 25:47Speaker 1: last one she played before she died was a Tyler
- 25:50Speaker 1: Perry movie when she was on that movie where they
- 25:54Speaker 1: were kidnapping the older people. But it was something about
- 25:59Speaker 1: her to me, her spirit or from the Tyler Perry
- 26:02Speaker 1: movies to Sydney forty. Whatever she did, she had something
- 26:06Speaker 1: on her. And one more I liked the man was
- 26:08Speaker 1: played on Bill Cosby. I ain't gonna fun. I like
- 26:11Speaker 1: that the one from that did on the cosy. That's
- 26:15Speaker 1: another one. But to me, yes, them two, I think
- 26:21Speaker 1: the number one because they can they can go either.
- 26:23Speaker 1: They had that fun with them.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see that.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Cicily Tyson, I mean, just a trail blazer when I'm
- 26:36Speaker 4: in the entertainment industries, and Tyler Perry did take her
- 26:42Speaker 4: under his wing and under his umbrella and being sure
- 26:45Speaker 4: that hey, you know, we as a younger generation did
- 26:49Speaker 4: not forget those who blazed the trail and felicitra shod.
- 26:54Speaker 4: She's still going right now as we speak. I know
- 26:58Speaker 4: she's supposed to be on a new movie that comes out.
- 27:01Speaker 4: I cannot remember the meme. I'm looking at the preview
- 27:04Speaker 4: and I cannot remember the name.
- 27:06Speaker 2: But yes, those are two good ones.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Those are two good ones.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I can see those two.
- 27:11Speaker 4: So let's go to the music industry.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 27:16Speaker 4: Who if you could choose for them to be your mother,
- 27:22Speaker 4: who would it be? And why?
- 27:27Speaker 1: Back then? For me, it would have been Patty LaBelle
- 27:32Speaker 1: and Gladys and Gladys.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Oh whoa.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Patti LaBelle and Gladys N So now you got Patty
- 27:46Speaker 1: LaBelle was so close. She she she came out with
- 27:49Speaker 1: her little stuff on. But she she did her thing.
- 27:52Speaker 1: She loved to cook, she kept a smile, She played
- 27:57Speaker 1: on different worlds, so many things. She just didn't do singing.
- 28:04Speaker 1: She did it all like they carol, all of them.
- 28:07Speaker 1: I like all of them. Then carol her. But in
- 28:09Speaker 1: the music business it would be Patty LaBelle and Glass.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I like Gladys because she had that soul in her
- 28:15Speaker 1: when she sings, it's like you like you like that
- 28:17Speaker 1: could be your on your mind, mute, you're gonna put
- 28:20Speaker 1: that potato sat it on and do that. They just
- 28:23Speaker 1: pass back then to me versus now and even my
- 28:28Speaker 1: my kids listen to that kind of music. Actually, they
- 28:32Speaker 1: have order about her. You could be sexy, but you
- 28:36Speaker 1: don't have to be all out there. They were sexy,
- 28:39Speaker 1: but they still had class about themselves instead of the
- 28:45Speaker 1: stuff that they doing now they show some, but they
- 28:49Speaker 1: still have that step in that order Patty Lavelle about it,
- 28:53Speaker 1: and that's what I love, the order that inside of them.
- 28:59Speaker 1: And when they sung, they sung through their heart. Now
- 29:03Speaker 1: I don't know what they're saying. I mean, I'm.
- 29:08Speaker 4: You you felt when Patty was singing, Now you felt
- 29:11Speaker 4: that nowadays. I can't even remember the last time I
- 29:14Speaker 4: listened to the radio listening recently because I can't get
- 29:17Speaker 4: into it. The singing nowadays, I can't get into it.
- 29:21Speaker 4: I just h And the way y'all dress. Yes, I'm
- 29:26Speaker 4: a big girl. I ain't imagine your little girls and
- 29:31Speaker 4: now tiny little things.
- 29:33Speaker 2: But good god, seriously, that's the.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Thicker little girls. The mother should tell them because I
- 29:46Speaker 1: know the beauty is not about weight, but every I can't.
- 29:50Speaker 1: I might can't wear what you wear, and you might
- 29:52Speaker 1: can't wear what I wear. But for some reason, everybody
- 29:56Speaker 1: just showing everything now, and we did. But I think
- 30:01Speaker 1: it's on another level now, you know, because I mean I.
- 30:06Speaker 5: Just think it's on another level now, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 30:11Speaker 5: and and unfortunately it's one of those things whereas in
- 30:16Speaker 5: it's it's it's truly society and what they see now
- 30:21Speaker 5: today at work, I look at some of those make
- 30:23Speaker 5: gala outfits.
- 30:24Speaker 4: Mm hmm, yeah, some of the some of y'all know,
- 30:29Speaker 4: y'all wrong, y'all been cute. I'm gonna give you that,
- 30:32Speaker 4: but come on, man, yeah, and we're wrong.
- 30:35Speaker 1: We didn't have social media. I'm kind of glad we
- 30:38Speaker 1: didn't because these babies are being exposed now human traffic
- 30:42Speaker 1: it's so sad, you know, I think the Lord we
- 30:46Speaker 1: will sheltered from from that from social media, because social
- 30:51Speaker 1: media is good, but if the wrong person tap into it,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and unfortunately with our baby, the enemy is being been.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And we do have to pray names for our children.
- 31:03Speaker 1: That's because even if we take it away, we got
- 31:06Speaker 1: to pray what they see in school on the bus,
- 31:10Speaker 1: the little kids somebody else, the friend may let them
- 31:14Speaker 1: and other parents are not the same either, and so
- 31:20Speaker 1: the parents, which when I was raised to see and
- 31:23Speaker 1: Samuel was totally different from Isaiah. I knew all of
- 31:29Speaker 1: my oldest two parents, but the younger generation, I like
- 31:33Speaker 1: you bugging them when you check on the kids. It
- 31:37Speaker 1: was a totally different opposite, which make things a little
- 31:43Speaker 1: different now as well.
- 31:46Speaker 4: It is truly, because I can remember a getting in
- 31:49Speaker 4: trouble when I was younger and walking home from school.
- 31:54Speaker 4: There were several mother figures that were along the way,
- 31:59Speaker 4: and they would have heard what would happen. I would
- 32:03Speaker 4: have gotten testised by each one of them, and then
- 32:05Speaker 4: got the worst when I got home. Nowadays, you can't
- 32:09Speaker 4: do that. You can't chastise these kids. You can't tell
- 32:13Speaker 4: them what they're wrong, because guess what, Mama gonna get
- 32:16Speaker 4: mad you jumped on her son. Mama gonna get mad
- 32:20Speaker 4: because you told her daughter she shouldn't be talking like that.
- 32:22Speaker 4: More thing like that. But what happened to the village mentality?
- 32:28Speaker 1: I was blessed in that area. My sons them had
- 32:31Speaker 1: some coaches and to this day when they see them,
- 32:35Speaker 1: they say, yes, sir. And I was around other single
- 32:39Speaker 1: parents that we could check each other kids. Now I
- 32:42Speaker 1: can't do it to them other kids, but I was
- 32:44Speaker 1: blessed be for the being band and football on trap.
- 32:47Speaker 1: We was able to check each other kids with them
- 32:50Speaker 1: saying coaches, now that's coaching. If they say something to
- 32:53Speaker 1: a child, it is a problem. But when my children
- 32:57Speaker 1: was younger, they was able to do that. But now
- 32:59Speaker 1: I don't know if they can. But I'm so grateful
- 33:02Speaker 1: that we had a commonity that we were in where
- 33:05Speaker 1: they could check my sons. Even in college, they call
- 33:08Speaker 1: and check on them from the band teacher, the football teacher,
- 33:10Speaker 1: and the track to this day. And that is truly
- 33:13Speaker 1: a blessing.
- 33:15Speaker 2: It surely isn't.
- 33:16Speaker 4: And I do have a village and I learned that
- 33:20Speaker 4: when I was younger from my family. I learned that
- 33:22Speaker 4: younger from my grandparents and my mother is that.
- 33:25Speaker 2: You need a village.
- 33:26Speaker 4: And even if your village is just you and somebody else,
- 33:28Speaker 4: you got a village. You know what I'm saying this, Yo,
- 33:32Speaker 4: I'm gonna be honest. We can't do this on our owns.
- 33:35Speaker 1: We and we need more play and we need some people.
- 33:42Speaker 4: Talk about the prayer to getting up late nights and
- 33:46Speaker 4: just with your eyes wide open while somebody getting in
- 33:48Speaker 4: your nerve. Father God, in the name of Jesus, please
- 33:51Speaker 4: race all thoughts.
- 33:52Speaker 2: You know.
- 33:53Speaker 4: So before we end tonight, you know you have to
- 33:59Speaker 4: tell us how we get follow you your books. I
- 34:03Speaker 4: need the down Okay.

- 35:05Speaker 1: Angel Thompson because I'm connected to her through so many
- 35:08Speaker 1: books and so many platforms, and I'm truly humble and
- 35:11Speaker 1: grateful for her for allowing me to be part of
- 35:15Speaker 1: the one hundred offices and so much more so, I
- 35:17Speaker 1: have to give credit when it's due. I have to
- 35:20Speaker 1: acknowledge her. I'm on the radio station, I'm on the
- 35:24Speaker 1: five a m. And I'm doing poetry I never did,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and thank you. So I like to give acknowledgement where
- 35:30Speaker 1: it's due. And it's been truly a humbling spend and
- 35:33Speaker 1: a bluffing.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Now I wasn't I telling y'all, but just one hundred
- 35:37Speaker 4: off the movement.

- 35:50Speaker 4: going to higher levels, all y'all gotta do is go
- 35:54Speaker 4: on the crew, or you can look for the one
- 35:57Speaker 4: hundred off the movement, or you can look under the
- 35:59Speaker 4: angel of Thomas Smith telling you it's like matter of fact,
- 36:05Speaker 4: it's like the mom with all the family behind him
- 36:09Speaker 4: that's rooting them on and helping them to continue to grow.
- 36:13Speaker 4: That's how we're doing it. So you just heard Simonia
- 36:18Speaker 4: from someone in the group. Okay, and believe you me,
- 36:22Speaker 4: you won't be hearing plenty more. Okay, tell you guys
- 36:27Speaker 4: another often, another Tuesday Night. Thank you again, Micheeryl for
- 36:33Speaker 4: being with us tonight.
- 36:35Speaker 1: M h.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, welco. Good night everyone.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Who oh, everybody gone,
