- 0:02Galatians chapter 4, let us pray our God, you are higher than any
- 0:10other our God. We worship you in spirit and
- 0:13truth today. God Almighty, we love you.
- 0:16We're asking for a greater measure of your love and your
- 0:19mercy and your joy today. Lord, lead us through these
- 0:23words. Teach us your eternal paths.
- 0:25I decrease as you increase. It's all about you, King Jesus.
- 0:28It's not about me, me, God. Hide me and hide my words and
- 0:32hide my thoughts, God. I just want whatever it is that
- 0:38you want for us, God. So Lord, I pray that you'll be
- 0:43well pleased with the reading of the text today.
- 0:46God, I pray that your spoken word will go out into all
- 0:51continents, all people groups, God, and it will rain down your
- 0:56righteousness, Lord, and your mercy and your grace.
- 1:00God, I pray that love abounds and covers a multitude of sins
- 1:04today. Lord, I pray that our broken
- 1:06bodies will be healed and marriage is restored.
- 1:09God, I pray for prodigals to come home and addictions to fall
- 1:12off. God, I pray for mental illness
- 1:15to break off God and for sound minds today, the minds of Christ
- 1:20today upon those believers, Lord, who trust you and who are
- 1:24called by your name. Lord, I pray in the name of
- 1:27Jesus for and for the called out ones.
- 1:30God, I pray for strength, for the battle for today.
- 1:33Give us a zealous heart for your word.
- 1:37God, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will help us to be your
- 1:40hands and feet today and to wash the feet of the disciples.
- 1:44God, I pray in the name of Jesus for sound doctrine and sound
- 1:48theology. God, I pray that you, Lord, will
- 1:51speak today. Speak a better word God, and
- 1:55plead the blood of Jesus Christ over our lives and houses and
- 2:00cars and families. Lord, you are worthy to be
- 2:04praised. You are forever praised and
- 2:07exalted. God, you are the Most High.
- 2:10God, you are everything. The very next breath in our
- 2:15lungs, Lord, we know that it comes from you.
- 2:19Lord, you are closer than the skin on our bodies.
- 2:22Lord, come and envelope us, and Holy Spirit, fill us overflowing
- 2:28fill us. Holy Ghost.
- 2:30Today, Lord, we only want what you want, so we get out of the
- 2:37way. Father, give you center stage.
- 2:39We give you the whole room. We give you the whole world,
- 2:42God. We lay down all of our own
- 2:44preconceived ideas and notions, Father, about who you are, God,
- 2:49and we just come to learn from you.
- 2:51Lord, continue opening up doors that no man can shut and shut
- 2:55the doors that no man can open, and shut the mouths of the lions
- 2:59and silence the accusations of the accuser of the brethren.
- 3:03Father, I pray, Lord, for a confident spirit.
- 3:07God, I pray, Lord, that you will help us to rise up and to be the
- 3:12warriors that you have called us to be while we put on the full
- 3:15armor of God and living the fruits of the Spirit today.
- 3:18Lord, we love you God, and it's all about you, King Jesus.
- 3:22Holy Spirit, guide us and it's in Jesus Christ, holy and
- 3:26precious and worthy and lovely and powerful name that I pray.
- 3:32Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 3:40Now I say that the heir, as long as he is a child, he differs
- 3:48nothing from a servant, though he be Lord of all.
- 3:53So we can see here in the real quick application that a child
- 3:57who is not yet to reach the age of maturity would seem as if he
- 4:02even has less rights than the slave who is teaching and who is
- 4:10lording over the little child. But we can see here that the
- 4:13little child will one day rule and reign over the whole Kingdom
- 4:20too, but is under tutors and governors until the time
- 4:24appointed of the Father. 3 Even so, we when we were children
- 4:30were in bondage under the elements of the world.
- 4:34So he's saying here that the law at one point in time was over
- 4:38us, but when Grace came into the picture, friends, we became over
- 4:44the law. But when the fullness of the
- 4:49time was come, God sent forth His Son made of a woman, made
- 4:53under the law. So we know that Jesus, when he
- 4:57was talking to John the Baptist disciples, said there was no one
- 5:00greater born of woman than John the Baptist, but the least in
- 5:05the Kingdom of God is greater than John the Baptist.
- 5:08So you can see here when Jesus came born and he was born of a
- 5:15virgin, we know that God was his Father and we know that he
- 5:22flipped the script on the law. And now as we are indwelled with
- 5:26the third part of the triune nature of God, with the Holy
- 5:31Ghost, we dance upon the law. Friends, we're above it five to
- 5:40redeem them that were under the law that we might receive the
- 5:43adoptions of sons. Think about that friends.
- 5:46We are ruling and reigning. We are the priests and we are
- 5:52royal nation, royal priesthood, friends, and we are the sons of
- 5:58Almighty God and that is what you need to understand.
- 6:02We are not slaves to sin and self and greed and to the world.
- 6:08Friends, that is not what God has called us to.
- 6:11He has called us to dominion. He has called us to rule and
- 6:15reign with him. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth
- 6:23the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying ABBA, Father, we
- 6:29cry out, Daddy, because we are indwelled with the Holy Ghost
- 6:35and we can come to know him and be known by him.
- 6:39And it is intimacy, friends. And I pray that you have
- 6:43experienced that. I pray that you're not still
- 6:46stuck on a scholastic academia approach and you're not just
- 6:51banking upon all of the degrees that you put on the wall.
- 6:54I pray that you have seen, you have tasted, you have seen in
- 6:59part in darkly and dimly, but you cry out because you desire
- 7:03more, you want to see the fullness. 7 Wherefore you are no
- 7:11more servant, but a sun, and if a sun than an air of God through
- 7:18Christ, all of the riches available to Jesus Christ are
- 7:23available to anyone who comes and attaches themselves to Jesus
- 7:27Christ and makes him Lord over their life. 8 How be it then,
- 7:34when you knew not God, you did service unto them, which by
- 7:38nature are no gods? So we can see how legalism,
- 7:42friends, it is the elementary school.
- 7:45And God desires for us to come up into His shekinah glory, to
- 7:50come up into the holiest of holy places.
- 7:54He desires for us to come up to where He is, where the seraphim
- 7:59cover their eyes because He is so holy, and they cover His
- 8:02mouth. And all we can do is bask in
- 8:05glory in the presence of Him. We are not under this legalism
- 8:10any longer. 9 But now after that you have known God, or rather
- 8:18are known of God, how do you turn again to the weak beggarly
- 8:24elements, where until you desire again to be in bondage?
- 8:29So he's saying that it is not enough to know Him, we must be
- 8:33known by Him. And that is a call for us,
- 8:38friends. You cannot bank on your church
- 8:41attendance. You cannot bank on the fact that
- 8:43your parents and grandparents and great grandparents belong to
- 8:47a certain denomination. You cannot bank on the fact that
- 8:50you were born in a peculiar particular place.
- 8:54You cannot bank upon how many Bibles you own or how many
- 8:57hymnals you sing. It is by being known by Him that
- 9:01he reveals himself to you. And what is he saying?
- 9:05Why do you want to go back into bondage?
- 9:07Why are you going back into the begging?
- 9:10Why are you going back into the weak things when God has called
- 9:14you to power and to glory? 10 You observe days, months and
- 9:22times and years. This is for all those who are
- 9:25stuck in the Jewish roots movements.
- 9:28And they think by observing the Sabbath and they think by
- 9:32observing all of the festivals, that they are somehow made a
- 9:36super St. of God. And God breaks down all of those
- 9:40preconceived ideas that you have been sold and you are back into
- 9:47bondage and it is back into elementary school.
- 9:50And God desires for us to break out of academia, to break out of
- 9:55all of the garbage that we are being sold by man.
- 10:00And this is a call for wisdom. We are called into freedom and
- 10:05not into bondage, into days in the observance of all of the
- 10:09festivals. Those are wonderful in the
- 10:12context of history, and they are great for the Jews to point them
- 10:17towards Christ. But those of us who are marked
- 10:20by Christ and are indwelled by the Holy Spirit, we are free and
- 10:25we are free indeed. And we are not in bondage to all
- 10:28of the celebrations of all of the festivals.
- 10:33Friends, 11 I am afraid of you lest I have bestowed upon you
- 10:40labor in vain. He's saying, I'm afraid that I
- 10:43came to you and preached a simple gospel, and now you are
- 10:47turning back and trying to work for your salvation. 12 Brothers,
- 10:52I beg you, be as I am, for I am as you are.
- 10:58You have not injured me at all. Paul was a Pharisee of the
- 11:01Pharisees. A Jew in the strictest order
- 11:05could trace his lineage, and he's saying, I've become like
- 11:10you Barbarians, the Gauls in Galatia, and now you're trying
- 11:16to become like the Jews, and he's saying, how ridiculous is
- 11:21that? 13 You know how through
- 11:25infirmity of the flesh I preach the gospel unto you at the
- 11:29first. So we know that Paul had to
- 11:31suffer whenever he was stoned almost to death. 14 And my
- 11:36temptation, which was in my flesh, you despise not nor
- 11:42rejected, but received me as an Angel of God, even as Christ
- 11:46Jesus. So Paul had some infirmities
- 11:48that we can all speculate, and whether it was malaria or
- 11:52whether it was eyesight or whether it was something that we
- 11:56can all try to sit around and speculate over, the Bible is
- 12:03clear to not mention. And it is for our edification
- 12:07that it was not mentioned because we can attach whatever
- 12:10infirmity we're going through. We can attach it to these words
- 12:14and to know and to have a great sense of encouragement because
- 12:20Paul wrote that he had gone through so much affliction
- 12:24through these infirmities, and we in our infirmity can be
- 12:29greatly encouraged. And so he's saying that these
- 12:32Galatians did not turn their backs on him even though he was
- 12:36suffering, but instead it actually caused in Paul's
- 12:39weakness, It caused God to be glorified.
- 12:43And they received him as the go between.
- 12:50They received him as if they were receiving Christ himself.
- 12:5615 Where is then the blessedness that you spoke of?
- 13:00For I bear you record that if it had been possible, you would
- 13:05have plucked out your own eyes and have given them to me.
- 13:09So here Paul is wanting the Galatians to know that they have
- 13:13lost the blessing of following after God wholeheartedly, and
- 13:18now they have turned back to their legalistic approach.
- 13:23And he's saying that they were so zealous over God and received
- 13:29Paul and they received Jesus Christ as their Savior.
- 13:33They were willing to pluck out their own eyes because they
- 13:37counted the cost and counted this world as nothing, and all
- 13:42they wanted was Christ. And now they're going back into
- 13:46bondage. 16 AM I therefore become your enemy because I tell
- 13:52you the truth? Every good minister and pastor,
- 13:55every good leader will tell the truth in love.
- 14:02They do not sugarcoat. It is hateful for us to Co sign
- 14:06on other people's sinful behaviors.
- 14:09That is what is hateful Friends 17.
- 14:14They zealously affect you, but not well, yeah, they would
- 14:18exclude you that you might affect them.
- 14:22So Paul here saying they're coming in cunningly, they're
- 14:26coming in and they are deceitfully, deceptively trying
- 14:31to lure you away from the grace of God, the free gift of
- 14:36salvation. And what they want to do is put
- 14:39you back into bondage so that you will serve them.
- 14:43And this is where cults rise up. False religions and false
- 14:49doctrines in the apostate church rises out of this, which will
- 14:53ultimately become the religion of the Antichrist friends.
- 14:58Because Satan wants to be worshipped.
- 15:00He wants to be higher than God, and he wants to be worshipped
- 15:04like God, which is why he sets himself in the temple in
- 15:09Jerusalem and demands to be worshipped as God.
- 15:13And you can see it all playing out in our day and our hour.
- 15:16And it proves the infallibility and the inerrancy of God's
- 15:20spoken written word, all of it congruent and perfect, and all
- 15:24of it a great tapestry that shows us the reliance and the
- 15:28truthfulness on God's Word. And all the prophecies that have
- 15:33not come in into fruition, we can bank and build our lives
- 15:36upon in the same way that they have come to fruition before.
- 15:41They will come into fruition as time continues on.
- 15:45And all we need to do is watch that nation Israel.
- 15:49For the nation Israel is God's time peace.
- 15:52And if you want to know where we are on the prophetic line and on
- 15:56the prophetic timetable, just watch little nation Israel, and
- 16:00you will find out how God is moving in heaven, friends on
- 16:05earth. 18 But it is good to be zealously affected, always in a
- 16:13good thing, and not only when I'm present with you.
- 16:17So he's saying you need to be zealous over the things that
- 16:20were taught to you, not zealous over the law that leads you into
- 16:24bondage. 19 My little children, of whom I travail and birth
- 16:30again, until Christ be formed in you, so he's going to show them
- 16:35that law and grace cannot cohabitate.
- 16:38They do not share the same space. 20 I desire to be present
- 16:42with you now and to change my voice, for I stand in doubt of
- 16:47you. 21 Tell me you the desire to be under the law.
- 16:53Do you not hear the law? 22 For it is written that
- 16:58Abraham had two sons, the one by a bond maid and the other by a
- 17:04free woman. So if it wasn't enough but for
- 17:07Paul to paint the picture of Abraham whenever he came by
- 17:15faith and God accounted it to him as righteousness because of
- 17:22his faith, now Paul is going to give them another lesson.
- 17:28All these Judaizers who were steeped in the Law, steeped in
- 17:33the written word of God and the things of the Jews, Paul here is
- 17:37going to show them the error of their way by pointing again back
- 17:42to the times before the Law, and to show them that they need not
- 17:48try to trust in the Law to be saved.
- 17:50But it is by grace, friends, that we are saved. 23 But he who
- 18:00was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh, but he of the
- 18:05free woman was by promise. So we know he's talking about
- 18:10Ishmael and Isaac. And you could see today that
- 18:15these two brothers, one who was made a warring nation who would
- 18:20always be in conflict with their brother, and the other one who
- 18:24was the heir of the promises of God, friends.
- 18:28And we can see them still at war today.
- 18:32But just know that just because you're part of that camp does
- 18:37not mean that you cannot place your faith in the Lord Jesus
- 18:40Christ and be saved and become an heir of the promises of God.
- 18:45And that's what he was talking about in the last chapter of
- 18:48breaking down all the boundary lines that we set up and that
- 18:52anyone who has breath in their lungs can come to the Lord Jesus
- 18:57Christ and be saved. 24 Which things are an allegory for?
- 19:06These are the two covenants, the one from the Mount Sinai which
- 19:11genders to bondage, which is Hagar 25.
- 19:15For this Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and answers to Jerusalem,
- 19:21which now is and is in bondage with her children.
- 19:25He's talking about the Muslims, friends, who trace their lineage
- 19:29back to Abraham, but it is through Ishmael and Hagar that
- 19:35they find their lineage, and it is into bondage, Friends 26 But
- 19:42Jerusalem, which is above is free, which is the mother of us
- 19:46all. He's talking about Christ.
- 19:49He's talking about when we come to Christ and we receive grace
- 19:54and we receive our salvation. All the promises of Abraham and
- 20:00Isaac are available to us, and that's available to anyone,
- 20:05friends, and we are just the wild branches grafted in. 27 For
- 20:10it is written, Rejoice, you barren that bears not break
- 20:15forth and cry that you travailed not.
- 20:19For the desolate has many more children than she which has a
- 20:24husband. So we can see through Sarah, who
- 20:29was barren, was above 80 years old and should not have been
- 20:34able to have a child. God calls her descendants more
- 20:40blessed than those of Hagar and Ishmael.
- 20:46And that is what you need to understand, that it is written
- 20:48here and it was promised well before, and you can see the
- 20:52conflict still stirred up till this day. 28 Now we brothers, as
- 21:04Isaac was, are the children of promise. 29 But as then he was,
- 21:10he that was born after the flesh persecuted him, that was born
- 21:15after the Spirit, Even so it is now.
- 21:17Is that not true today? Friends, when you think about
- 21:20all the conflict in the Middle East, if you think about it,
- 21:24friends, it all stems back to Ishmael and the disobedience of
- 21:30Abraham whenever he took Hagar to be the surrogate mother of
- 21:35the seed of rebellion and the seed of the warring and
- 21:39persecution of the seed of promise.
- 21:43Isaac and Jacob, the Israel, the 12 tribes, friends, and the 12
- 21:51disciples, friends, and even our Lord Messiah.
- 21:54You can see that even today it is even still so now 30.
- 22:00Nevertheless, what says the Scripture cast out the bondwoman
- 22:06and her son? For the son of the bondwoman
- 22:09shall not be heir with the son of the free woman.
- 22:13We'll end on 31. So then, brothers, we are not
- 22:16children of the bondwoman, but of the free.
- 22:19And you can see God's grace and provision all over Hagar and
- 22:25Ishmael when they're in the water and she's crying when
- 22:28they're in the wilderness and she's crying because they have
- 22:30no water. And Elroy comes and he shows
- 22:34them the water and he promises to make Ishmael a great nation,
- 22:39but he will always be at war. And you can see it all today.
- 22:43And God is so gracious, and it's all pointing friends to the
- 22:47finish line. But we need to finish well.
- 22:50And we need not live in fear. We need to know that greater is
- 22:54he living in us than he who is in the world.
- 22:57And you also need to know that those that are in the Muslim
- 23:01faith are coming in droves to faith in the Messiah.
- 23:05And Jesus is revealing himself in dreams and visions and
- 23:09visitations, friends. And you need to understand,
- 23:11understand that it is not the law, friends, that we are under.
- 23:16We are above the law and we are in grace, friends.
- 23:19And we have the righteousness of Christ accounted and attributed
- 23:24to us. And we wear it everywhere we go,
- 23:27this blood of Christ. And we're not just dipped in
- 23:29water, but we're bathed in the blood.
- 23:39How amazing is this little epistle of Paul's Galatians?
- 23:45We can learn so much about what's going on all around us.
- 23:52You can spend a lifetime studying this little book,
- 23:56picking it apart and looking at all of it.
- 23:59And it is beautiful. But it all points to Christ and
- 24:04our desperate need for Christ. Today is the day of salvation.
- 24:11Work out your salvation with fear and trembling and return
- 24:16back to your first love. Hope you've been blessed by this
- 24:24chapter. I know I sure have.
- 24:31I love you, so does God. God bless you.
- 24:41We'll see you back here tomorrow.
