- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome aboard and see you cut men's basketball coaches showing that,
- 0:04Speaker 1: of course, means some quality time with Dan Hurley on
- 0:07Speaker 1: my Crispino as we get together. We haven't talked for
- 0:10Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks about what's been happening with
- 0:12Speaker 1: the team, But I'll take twenty seven three pretty much
- 0:16Speaker 1: any day of the week. I know you're never really
- 0:19Speaker 1: one hundred percent satisfied, but looking at twenty seven three
- 0:23Speaker 1: looks pretty good to me.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I just don't I'm still stuck on the quality time
- 0:26Speaker 2: with Dan Hurley part.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I mean, I was the part.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I don't hear that a lot. So I don't get
- 0:33Speaker 2: that from my wife, my kids, my players, my parents,
- 0:38Speaker 2: maybe my brother a little bit. But yeah, listen, you'll
- 0:42Speaker 2: take where you are.
- 0:43Speaker 4: You know, I don't know that you're you're ever you know,
- 0:47Speaker 4: I don't know that you're ever necessarily at ease or
- 0:51Speaker 4: totally confident, because once you know what your team is
- 0:54Speaker 4: capable of.
- 0:55Speaker 2: You know, when at their worst or seeing what the
- 0:59Speaker 2: floor of your team is, it does become scary. And
- 1:03Speaker 2: you know, there's been a bunch of times this year
- 1:05Speaker 2: where we've seen what our floor has looked like, and
- 1:08Speaker 2: you know, it's you know, just like the other night.
- 1:11Speaker 2: I think two things can be true. I think you could,
- 1:14Speaker 2: you know, big these games are physical, they're tough, they're
- 1:17Speaker 2: hard fought. You play twenty of them, they're very physical.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But we've also had, you know, plenty of games this
- 1:23Speaker 2: year where you know, we just we haven't played at
- 1:28Speaker 2: an elite level and been able to get separation from
- 1:31Speaker 2: teams that we should be able to beat more comfortably.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Would you say that Seaton Halls Pirates were the most
- 1:41Speaker 1: physical team you faced this year because from my vantage point,
- 1:45Speaker 1: I'm twenty rowers back now, but I'll tell you what, man,
- 1:48Speaker 1: they were bumping and shoving and elbowing and I mean
- 1:53Speaker 1: their point guard against Silas Demery. I felt bad for Silace.
- 1:58Speaker 1: He was getting rocked all over the place.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's it's uh, I mean, this league
- 2:04Speaker 2: is different than most other leagues. I think maybe you
- 2:07Speaker 2: could make a case, you know that that the Big Ten,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you know that there's there's uh, there there's a you know,
- 2:14Speaker 2: there's a level of physicality that's similar, but the amount
- 2:17Speaker 2: of hand to hand combat that goes on, the amount
- 2:20Speaker 2: of grabbing, you know, and holding and illegal screening and
- 2:24Speaker 2: and it's you know, it's a pretty brutal game when
- 2:27Speaker 2: you when you play your Seaton Hall and see and
- 2:30Speaker 2: she He he's a great coach. I mean he he's
- 2:32Speaker 2: got an identity, you know, to get the most out
- 2:35Speaker 2: of his team. And and and in playing is grinded
- 2:38Speaker 2: out style. The way that they do is it's uh,
- 2:41Speaker 2: you know, it's why he's such a great coach because
- 2:44Speaker 2: they make the game, you know, really messy for you
- 2:46Speaker 2: on offense. And I know there was so much you know,
- 2:49Speaker 2: talk about the fouling, you know, the whether it was
- 2:52Speaker 2: a foul at the end, and the foul shooting discrepancy.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I mean when I went and watched the film, we
- 2:58Speaker 2: probably could have shot another fifteen free throws you know
- 3:02Speaker 2: in the game. You know, it's just uh, but it's
- 3:05Speaker 2: Big East basketball. That's why as much as fun as
- 3:08Speaker 2: the season is for us, in a way, we can't
- 3:10Speaker 2: wait to play some non conference teams again. Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Some couple of friends of mine were in the building
- 3:15Speaker 1: watching and afterwards they asked me, is this the because
- 3:19Speaker 1: they haven't been to any NCAAA games physically in person,
- 3:22Speaker 1: and they asked me, is that the way the NCAA
- 3:25Speaker 1: tournament games would be, and I said, I don't think so.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I think they could officiate a little different for some reason.
- 3:31Speaker 1: When the Big East goes head to head, they let
- 3:34Speaker 1: them do things go and it's a whole different game
- 3:37Speaker 1: and in a lot of ways, isn't it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so. And I think this year in particular,
- 3:42Speaker 2: I think you're seeing less travels called, You're seeing less
- 3:46Speaker 2: illegal screens called. I don't know if there was an
- 3:50Speaker 2: edict that was sent to speed these games up, because
- 3:55Speaker 2: they're you know, obviously the replays aren't helping now, the
- 3:59Speaker 2: ability to challenge calls and the amount of replays at
- 4:02Speaker 2: the end of the game. But I think that uh,
- 4:04Speaker 2: you know, I think the officials are trying to let
- 4:07Speaker 2: the players play more. I do think in the but
- 4:10Speaker 2: absolutely in the I think two things are definitely in
- 4:15Speaker 2: our favor when we get to the tournament. It's uh, yeah,
- 4:18Speaker 2: if if you don't call you know, the you know,
- 4:21Speaker 2: the holding, the grabbing, the blatant fouls that people kind
- 4:25Speaker 2: of get away with, and conference play, the referees won't
- 4:29Speaker 2: probably advance when they're when they allow that to go
- 4:32Speaker 2: on and just ugly the game up, you know. And uh,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and then the lack of familiarity with when we get
- 4:38Speaker 2: to play people that don't know us as well as
- 4:41Speaker 2: these coaches and teams and players know us helps us.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Dan Hurley with us, you comments, basketball coaches show Mike
- 4:48Speaker 1: Crispino here. It's been a while since we talked, so
- 4:51Speaker 1: I want to I want to go back to one
- 4:53Speaker 1: of the low points, because you're going to have them
- 4:55Speaker 1: in a season. You're at home, Creighton comes in, They're
- 4:58Speaker 1: around five hundred, they play lights out all night long,
- 5:02Speaker 1: and they score ninety one. Uh for for a moment there,
- 5:06Speaker 1: I thought it was five slama jama or something, even
- 5:08Speaker 1: though they weren't jamming the ball, but they were getting
- 5:10Speaker 1: down the lane so much. When you look back at
- 5:13Speaker 1: that afterwards, what did you see and how did you adjust?
- 5:17Speaker 1: Because the team stepped it up, I thought in the
- 5:20Speaker 1: next couple games, at least defensively against Villanova and Saint John's.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, what do you see? I mean you
- 5:26Speaker 3: see dreadfulness. I mean you see you see just a
- 5:32Speaker 3: total breakdown of you know, of a team understanding, you know,
- 5:38Speaker 3: just how important every game is. Obviously, if we won
- 5:42Speaker 3: that game, a home game that that we were heavy
- 5:46Speaker 3: favorite in you know we would we would right now
- 5:49Speaker 3: be at eighteen and one with a chance to win
- 5:51Speaker 3: nineteen and and we'll have at least tied up a
- 5:54Speaker 3: share of the you know, the regular season.
- 5:56Speaker 2: So yeah, you watch the film and it's discussed thing
- 6:00Speaker 2: it's gross, it's uh, you know, it's bad technique, it's
- 6:04Speaker 2: it's uh, it's lack of respect for the game, the opponent.
- 6:09Speaker 2: It's not showing up you know from uh you know,
- 6:13Speaker 2: as a program the way you need to. So yeah,
- 6:17Speaker 2: I mean it's lack of will of of the team,
- 6:21Speaker 2: the program, which is led by me, you know, to
- 6:24Speaker 2: take care of a game that that you need to
- 6:25Speaker 2: take care of at home. And the flip side of
- 6:28Speaker 2: it too is you know they they you know before
- 6:31Speaker 2: and after you know, Creighton you know has kind of struggled,
- 6:36Speaker 2: So you know, it's it's one of those you know
- 6:39Speaker 2: nights where you're just you're scratching your head with like
- 6:41Speaker 2: how did that happen?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Yeah, Dan Hurley was a night and day. We're going
- 6:45Speaker 1: to get to Villanova Saint John's those two games and
- 6:49Speaker 1: wrap up the seat in the whole game two when.
- 6:51Speaker 2: We come back.
- 6:51Speaker 1: This is a you come men's basketball Coaches show. With
- 6:54Speaker 1: Dan Hurley on lear Field
