- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. All right, well returning, and
- 0:08Speaker 1: I'm like, who do I talk to about the first
- 0:10Speaker 1: half and first part of the season before the MLB
- 0:13Speaker 1: All Star Break. He's sitting right in front of me,
- 0:16Speaker 1: Ryan Pigano, my colleague and coworker and friend at Salem
- 0:19Speaker 1: Media and a host of PEG's perspective. Welcome back to
- 0:23Speaker 1: one like up with Alex Garrett.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Oh well, thank you for the welcome back. And I
- 0:26Speaker 2: guess it's not too hard to find somebody around here
- 0:28Speaker 2: to talk baseball with the MRA exactly.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We got got Tom involved at some point too. But
- 0:33Speaker 1: now we're at the All Star Game tonight. Firstly, your
- 0:36Speaker 1: favorite memory of the All Star Game, you know, and
- 0:39Speaker 1: your twenty three years of life.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Ooh, that's kind of a tough one because you know,
- 0:45Speaker 2: I haven't been to any All Star game before that,
- 0:48Speaker 2: so it's kind of hard to pick from. But you
- 0:51Speaker 2: know what, I do distinctly recall though the twenty thirteen
- 0:54Speaker 2: and twenty fourteen All Star Games. Those probably have to
- 0:58Speaker 2: be one of my favorites, mostly because of the connections.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Though twenty thirteen, of course, was that city field, and
- 1:03Speaker 2: I still have a very distinct memory of watching the
- 1:05Speaker 2: Derby and also watching a bit of the All Star
- 1:08Speaker 2: Game too. I believe I actually spent part of that
- 1:10Speaker 2: on the beach, believe it or not. So that was
- 1:13Speaker 2: kind of memorable in and of itself, but also twenty
- 1:15Speaker 2: fourteen and seeing the farewell that Jeets got, Yeah, that
- 1:19Speaker 2: was also a pretty core memory.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Oh it was funny. I remember that game because someone
- 1:22Speaker 1: said overrated and he rips an rby a line drive
- 1:25Speaker 1: double and a lead off the All Star Game on
- 1:26Speaker 1: the now.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I know there was a lot of controversy too, with
- 1:29Speaker 2: Adam Wainwright just intentionally throwing meat balls to Jeets, and
- 1:33Speaker 2: I mean, you know, whether you want to believe that
- 1:34Speaker 2: conspiracy or not. I mean it had a pretty big
- 1:37Speaker 2: effect on the World Series because this was back when
- 1:40Speaker 2: you had the winner of the All Star Game getting
- 1:42Speaker 2: home field in the World Series, which you know, you
- 1:45Speaker 2: don't really have anymore, which is for better or worse.
- 1:48Speaker 2: You know, I'm personally good with not having that be
- 1:52Speaker 2: the case, But at the same time, it's also really
- 1:55Speaker 2: diminished the value that the All Star Game has. Not
- 1:57Speaker 2: to say that it's isn't any good this year, Like
- 2:00Speaker 2: there's still a lot of intrigues surrounding it. But when
- 2:03Speaker 2: you don't really have a lot to play for, I
- 2:05Speaker 2: don't know, it just kind of takes away from it.
- 2:07Speaker 1: By the way, I'm gonna post up on Alex Janys
- 2:09Speaker 1: one our picture where I'm in my yangskier and You're
- 2:11Speaker 1: in your meds gier. Always a little bit of a
- 2:13Speaker 1: rivalry there. But except for the nixt literally exactly now.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Recently you post on Pag's Perspective that you were not
- 2:19Speaker 1: happy with the way the voting went for it tonight.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Can you explain that to my listeners a little bit.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and this really doesn't have to do with the
- 2:27Speaker 2: starting nine voting. It's more so for the reserves, And look,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I get it at A lot of what I talked
- 2:33Speaker 2: about here on my most recent episode of Pag's Perspective
- 2:37Speaker 2: was about and I'll manager Dave Roberts and his decision
- 2:39Speaker 2: to choose Jacob Msowski after five whole games in the
- 2:46Speaker 2: major leagues for the All Star Team. No, this has
- 2:49Speaker 2: nothing to do with any of their talent whatsoever. There's
- 2:53Speaker 2: no denying that these guys are all very worthy of
- 2:56Speaker 2: their spots. So this isn't any slander to them by
- 2:59Speaker 2: any means it's more so just there were better options available,
- 3:04Speaker 2: you know what I mean. And no shade to Jacob whatsoever.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I mean, he was very humble when he found out
- 3:10Speaker 2: that he was getting selected to his first All Star Game,
- 3:13Speaker 2: breaking Paul Skeins's record in the process for the fewest
- 3:16Speaker 2: games before your first All Star selection. You know he's
- 3:21Speaker 2: worthy of being there, I'd say, I guess it's just
- 3:25Speaker 2: nobody really happened or really expected to have that.
- 3:28Speaker 1: About a week ago he shut out the Dodgers, if
- 3:30Speaker 1: I'm not mistaken, right.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Believe so? Yeah, So, I mean, he's really impressed through
- 3:34Speaker 2: five games. But then when you look at some of
- 3:38Speaker 2: the other guys who probably could have made a case
- 3:40Speaker 2: to be there instead. I mainly looked at Chris Sanchez
- 3:44Speaker 2: and Ranger Suarez, both of the Phillies. Suarez with a
- 3:47Speaker 2: sub two ERA going into the All Star Game, but
- 3:49Speaker 2: he wasn't picked, and Sanchez also with a really good
- 3:53Speaker 2: season as well. I believe his THERA is probably closer
- 3:55Speaker 2: to about two point seven. Now, granted, he did pitch
- 3:58Speaker 2: the weekend before the game, so even if he was chosen,
- 4:01Speaker 2: it's not like of a matter anyway, he wouldn't be
- 4:03Speaker 2: able to pitch.
- 4:03Speaker 1: And by the way, the Phillies are very vocal about
- 4:06Speaker 1: how disappointed they are in this whole situation.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was something else I touched on on
- 4:12Speaker 2: my latest episode as well, Trey Turner really being at
- 4:15Speaker 2: the forefront of it. But then you also have Nick
- 4:18Speaker 2: Castillanos basically comparing this to the Savannah Bananas banana Ball,
- 4:24Speaker 2: which has just kind of become a thing of its own,
- 4:27Speaker 2: and Kyle Schwober I believe chimed in as well.
- 4:30Speaker 1: But and you don't realize the Bananas, by the way,
- 4:32Speaker 1: have their own youth baseball league or something like that.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I mean, they're doing this in the in the.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Youth league as well. Yeah, it's just really crazy how
- 4:39Speaker 2: far that's transcended. And another one of my colleagues actually
- 4:43Speaker 2: are colleagues rather. I was just talking about this with
- 4:46Speaker 2: Dean Gelvania show before, but no, we were literally talking
- 4:51Speaker 2: about potential MLB All Stars versus Savannah Banana's game. But
- 4:57Speaker 2: with the rules of banana Ball all that.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And by the way that I know people want the
- 5:02Speaker 1: Derby to go back to ten pitches or however it
- 5:04Speaker 1: was or what was it, ten ten swings? I believe
- 5:08Speaker 1: at one.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Point with the Derby, I believe so something like that
- 5:11Speaker 2: was this back when they used to years ago, the
- 5:14Speaker 2: amount of outs you made or something like that.
- 5:16Speaker 1: When a Derby's divided decided by one inch by the way,
- 5:19Speaker 1: cal rally congratulations. I feel like what I met up
- 5:21Speaker 1: with the gold Glove, we were just starting. He was
- 5:23Speaker 1: just starting something special. Because since that moment in November
- 5:27Speaker 1: at the MLB store, he's broken Mariti records. Before the
- 5:30Speaker 1: All Star Break, he's won the Derby. I mean, this
- 5:33Speaker 1: team and him look like they have some eyests on
- 5:35Speaker 1: bigger picture here.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Oh for sure. And not only that, but being the
- 5:38Speaker 2: first catcher to ever win a home runs for ever.
- 5:41Speaker 2: I mean that cannot be understated in and of itself,
- 5:45Speaker 2: especially when you've had other great power hitting catchers of
- 5:49Speaker 2: the past like Piazza. I know he's competed in the
- 5:51Speaker 2: Derby a few times. I don't know Pudge has ever competed.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I feel like he might have at some point. But
- 5:56Speaker 2: you have all these great hitting catchers that have competed
- 5:59Speaker 2: in the Derby at some point, but the fact that
- 6:02Speaker 2: none of them have ever won until this year, especially
- 6:05Speaker 2: for a competition that has been around since the eighties,
- 6:09Speaker 2: or technically the nineteen sixties, if you want to go
- 6:11Speaker 2: all the way back to the syndicated TV series.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, no, it's it's quite something, all right. I
- 6:17Speaker 1: won't get to take on the two teams out here
- 6:18Speaker 1: in New York because it looks like, well, the Mets
- 6:22Speaker 1: and Yanks both needed this break. I mean, I know
- 6:24Speaker 1: the Yanks came off a five game win streak and
- 6:26Speaker 1: they lost series to Cubs. But both teams need the
- 6:29Speaker 1: break as as many teams in the in Major League
- 6:32Speaker 1: Baseball right now. But locally, what adjustments do both teams
- 6:36Speaker 1: need to make coming out of this break here?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Well, I'll just start off with my team, the Mets,
- 6:41Speaker 2: and my answer is kind of it's gonna be more
- 6:43Speaker 2: or less the same. I'll just kind of spoil that.
- 6:47Speaker 2: But for the Mets especially, they need bullpen help in
- 6:50Speaker 2: the worst way, and that's say rotation help as well,
- 6:53Speaker 2: which you know that has been kind of addressed right
- 6:56Speaker 2: before the break with Trump and Ia coming back, and
- 6:58Speaker 2: he looked pretty good in relief against Kansas City, I believe,
- 7:01Speaker 2: recording seven strikeouts in a game that you could very
- 7:05Speaker 2: argue they should have won. I mean, they only lost
- 7:09Speaker 2: three two to Kansas City, and not only that, but
- 7:13Speaker 2: coming back to tie it in the ninth right before
- 7:17Speaker 2: the walk off there. I mean, you're talking about very well,
- 7:21Speaker 2: an easy sweep and kind of a twenty fifteen revenge
- 7:24Speaker 2: tour if you will. That being said, you know, he
- 7:27Speaker 2: still took two to three from Kansas and it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Was a good rebound because that they had a very
- 7:31Speaker 1: surprising doubleheader sweep against at the hands of the Orioles.
- 7:35Speaker 1: I did not expect them to lose both games that
- 7:37Speaker 1: day on Thursday, but.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Yeah, certainly not, especially with the Orioles just constantly tripping
- 7:43Speaker 2: over themselves. And then that really comes into question if
- 7:47Speaker 2: the Orioles should have done way, way more than what
- 7:50Speaker 2: they should have. And this it doesn't even have to
- 7:52Speaker 2: do with letting Corbyn Burns go. I mean, he was
- 7:54Speaker 2: going to be getting a bag either way, and the
- 7:57Speaker 2: Diamondbacks gave it to him, which, by the way, up
- 8:00Speaker 2: to him, as he recovers from Tommy John, just an
- 8:02Speaker 2: awful situation.
- 8:04Speaker 1: By the way you mentioned Tommy John. I feel like
- 8:06Speaker 1: there are a lot of guys, Garrett Cole and other
- 8:07Speaker 1: guys that have just been shut down even mid season
- 8:10Speaker 1: here with Tommy John is there babying going on right
- 8:14Speaker 1: now that that's causing these arms? I mean, look, Clarksman
- 8:17Speaker 1: had a huge, devastating Tommy John injury that now requires
- 8:20Speaker 1: Tommy John and you know he was going for a
- 8:23Speaker 1: no no there earlier in the season and they pulled them out.
- 8:25Speaker 1: I feel like not letting the guys throw naturally is
- 8:29Speaker 1: harming them a little bit.
- 8:30Speaker 2: No, it is, But then it also just comes down
- 8:32Speaker 2: to these training routines, these very modern training routines that
- 8:36Speaker 2: you've had in the modern game, because back when say
- 8:40Speaker 2: I was growing up, it wasn't really like you had
- 8:44Speaker 2: all these pitchers from a very young age no less,
- 8:47Speaker 2: just throwing as hard as they can three hundred and
- 8:49Speaker 2: sixty five days a year for a probably six months
- 8:53Speaker 2: season where they're making figure thirty starts if they were
- 8:57Speaker 2: to make it in the big leagues or something like that.
- 8:58Speaker 2: But the fact that these guys are throwing way more
- 9:02Speaker 2: and at very high velocities as well, you're just kind
- 9:06Speaker 2: of asking something to happen. And I mean, this isn't
- 9:08Speaker 2: even a major league problem, which is just kind of
- 9:11Speaker 2: nuts in and of itself. But you know, when you
- 9:13Speaker 2: have teenagers, literal teenagers undergoing Tommy John surgery just because
- 9:18Speaker 2: they're being trained, programmed to throw at these high velocities
- 9:22Speaker 2: in high school to just garner attention of colleges, major
- 9:27Speaker 2: league scouts. It's a whole trickle down effect.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And I believe there are just underwent Tommy John that
- 9:32Speaker 1: got drafted on Sunday, if I'm not mistaken.
- 9:34Speaker 2: So yeah, I believe so. Unfortunately the name is not
- 9:38Speaker 2: coming to my head here, but I mean it also
- 9:41Speaker 2: does go to show that you can still make a
- 9:44Speaker 2: successful recovery from Tommy John sometimes multiple Tommy John's. Absolutely
- 9:48Speaker 2: we cannot underestimate that under or understate rather that multiple pictures.
- 9:54Speaker 2: There's a ton of them out there that have undergone
- 9:56Speaker 2: not one, but two, sometimes more Tommy John surgery. Then
- 10:00Speaker 2: would possibly imagine, I mean, Jacob de Gram is the
- 10:03Speaker 2: first person that I think of with that to Tommy
- 10:05Speaker 2: John surgeries one I believe in college, or not in college,
- 10:09Speaker 2: but rather when he was in a NETS system and
- 10:11Speaker 2: then his second with the Rangers in twenty twenty three.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I believe it was Kate Anderson actually got drafted and
- 10:17Speaker 1: he had Tommy John just in twenty twenty two.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Kate Anderson, who I thought the Nets the Nationals
- 10:23Speaker 2: should have taken with the first overall pick over Eli
- 10:27Speaker 2: Will but he's got a lot of upside though that
- 10:29Speaker 2: picks to him.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Four actually had Tommy John which is very very interesting.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So we'll see what happens. We'll see what happened.
- 10:35Speaker 2: We certainly will.
- 10:36Speaker 1: All right, Now, let's go to the Yanks, because I
- 10:37Speaker 1: look at that team, as you know, they're making moves.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I think the cutting of DJ is lighting up a fire, saying, hey,
- 10:45Speaker 1: if you don't perform, well, we are going to cut.
- 10:46Speaker 1: You know, the idea to show them they are replaceable,
- 10:49Speaker 1: might fire them up a little bit, you know, and
- 10:51Speaker 1: then and then moving Jazz to second, opening that door
- 10:55Speaker 1: for a third baseman. Right now, that should be score
- 10:59Speaker 1: as we'll see what the Backs are asking for. But Ryan,
- 11:02Speaker 1: what I'm also looking at is the bigger picture here.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I mean, you're gonna compete with a Tiger team that
- 11:06Speaker 1: looks unstoppable right now, and they got to look in
- 11:10Speaker 1: that mirror and say, hey, how do we match up
- 11:12Speaker 1: with the Tigers? How do we have one leg up
- 11:14Speaker 1: over them?
- 11:15Speaker 2: If you will, yeah, pretty much. And you know I
- 11:17Speaker 2: hinted earlier that my answer was kind of gonna be
- 11:20Speaker 2: a little bit similar as to what exactly the Yanks
- 11:23Speaker 2: need to do, and one of them for sure is
- 11:27Speaker 2: definitely getting their bullpen help as well. So both New
- 11:29Speaker 2: York team's kind of in the same boat there and
- 11:31Speaker 2: the Yankees one ironically claiming a Mets reliever Off Waivers
- 11:35Speaker 2: to really help with the to play a bullpen as well.
- 11:37Speaker 2: He's looked pretty good in his few appearances for the
- 11:40Speaker 2: Mets as well, so I have optimism that he'll continue
- 11:43Speaker 2: to be the same with the Yanks. But as far
- 11:45Speaker 2: as their third base hole goes, I think Suarez he
- 11:49Speaker 2: would fit really well in the Bronx with their mostly
- 11:52Speaker 2: power hitting lineup. He's definitely somebody that could just fit
- 11:56Speaker 2: right on in. But the question is if you're Brian
- 11:59Speaker 2: Cash and I'm sure Arizona they're gonna be looking for
- 12:02Speaker 2: a lot of prospects back for their guys that have
- 12:05Speaker 2: been rumored to be traded. I believe, not just Suarez,
- 12:09Speaker 2: but correct me if I'm wrong. I think Montgomery is
- 12:12Speaker 2: still in trade toss over there, Yeah, and a couple
- 12:16Speaker 2: other expiring and.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Their contender, by the way, I believe.
- 12:19Speaker 2: Which is just wild in and of itself. But the
- 12:23Speaker 2: question I want to post you. You're a big Yankees fan,
- 12:25Speaker 2: you know this team inside and out. But if you're
- 12:28Speaker 2: Brian Cashman, do you let go of Spencer Jones if
- 12:33Speaker 2: it meant giving up Suarez?
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think they've been in such a great form with
- 12:38Speaker 1: the farm system. I still feel like you gotta protect
- 12:41Speaker 1: Spencer Jones and you can't. I'm with you, you can't ask.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I can't get rid of him because he will be
- 12:47Speaker 1: the few. He is the future of the Yankees lineup
- 12:50Speaker 1: right now. Ryan. As you know, I met Ben Rice
- 12:52Speaker 1: a couple about a week ago or so.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Love the kid.
- 12:55Speaker 1: I love what he's brought to this team. But I
- 12:57Speaker 1: still don't think they need a couple of bats. I mean,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and Rights are who they're leaning on right now. So
- 13:03Speaker 1: Brian Cashm has a way of fine line. They need
- 13:05Speaker 1: another hitter, there's no doubt, maybe even two hitters, you know,
- 13:08Speaker 1: or maybe be Risky and Collin Spencer. I don't know,
- 13:11Speaker 1: but something's got to give right now.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, something absolutely has to give right now. I mean,
- 13:19Speaker 2: you just really got a question. Is Spencer Jones is
- 13:21Speaker 2: even ready for the big league level at this point?
- 13:23Speaker 2: You know, maybe he could be a September call up
- 13:25Speaker 2: if that's the case. If not twenty twenty six, I'm
- 13:28Speaker 2: sure he will definitely be ready by then. I Mean,
- 13:30Speaker 2: that's exactly why we saw Cash get Paul Goldschmid as
- 13:34Speaker 2: sort of that stopgap option there, and he's worked out
- 13:36Speaker 2: pretty well there. Yeah, for his age and his clining production,
- 13:39Speaker 2: he's still very just leadoff.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Yes, that's that we can agree with. He should be
- 13:44Speaker 1: lead off every game because I seem to be thriving
- 13:46Speaker 1: when he's at the top there. So we'll have to see.
- 13:49Speaker 1: One other thing that that crosses my mind here, Ryan,
- 13:52Speaker 1: is you look at the standings right now. First of all,
- 13:55Speaker 1: the Blue Jays, I thought we're gonna have a bigger
- 13:57Speaker 1: lead into the break, but there are only two games
- 13:59Speaker 1: up on the Yanks, which gives the Yanks a lot
- 14:02Speaker 1: of hope here, and the Mets and Phillies are gonna
- 14:05Speaker 1: be battling it out. I feel like the Phillies are
- 14:08Speaker 1: more of a mess than the Mets right now, though.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Now they absolutely are. The way their bullpen has been constructed,
- 14:14Speaker 2: I mean I'd almost argue their bullpen is a bigger
- 14:18Speaker 2: mess than anything the Mets have been able to put
- 14:22Speaker 2: out there. Right now, because at least they've had some
- 14:24Speaker 2: good consistency, they've had some good stretches where their bullpen
- 14:28Speaker 2: has been absolutely lights out. And it's not just with Diaz,
- 14:32Speaker 2: but you have the likes of Brazabon, Read Garrett, even
- 14:36Speaker 2: Max Kranic earlier in the season just going off for
- 14:39Speaker 2: several stretches. But even then that's kind of fizzled.
- 14:43Speaker 1: By the way your bullpen and Standic's return has been
- 14:45Speaker 1: really good for the Mets right now.
- 14:47Speaker 2: And they absolutely needed that because Brasabon really has not
- 14:51Speaker 2: had a good stretch going into the summer months. But
- 14:53Speaker 2: Max Kranick also hitters really starting to figure him out,
- 14:57Speaker 2: and he might need Tommy John as well.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I might have to repost the reply because I feel
- 15:01Speaker 1: like I was right on the money when I said
- 15:04Speaker 1: Jenkowski's return was going to energize the Mets. I feel
- 15:07Speaker 1: like he's a spark plug. I remember when they all
- 15:09Speaker 1: wore his jersey a few years ago. He's a guy
- 15:11Speaker 1: that everybody loves in the clubhouse.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Oh for sure.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean I was pretty sad when they let him
- 15:17Speaker 2: go in twenty twenty two and all that. And that's
- 15:20Speaker 2: not just because he tossed me a baseball during a
- 15:24Speaker 2: game at City Field that I dropped. But that's a
- 15:26Speaker 2: whole other can of worms. But he is pretty much
- 15:29Speaker 2: that prototypical glue guy that you would just love to
- 15:32Speaker 2: have off the bench, spring speed, brings clutch hits when needed,
- 15:36Speaker 2: can field pretty well too. He's that prototypical fourth glue
- 15:41Speaker 2: guy outfielder that you would want to have out there.
- 15:45Speaker 2: And unfortunately they defate him again to make some roster space.
- 15:49Speaker 2: But you know whether or not he'll make a couple
- 15:51Speaker 2: more appearances for the Mets at a later time, We'll
- 15:54Speaker 2: see what happens with that. I mean, their outfield has
- 15:56Speaker 2: been pretty healthy, but also they've been in a lot
- 15:58Speaker 2: of talks for starting center fielder. Perhaps I've seen Luisa
- 16:03Speaker 2: Robert from the White Sox and potential trade talks. They're
- 16:06Speaker 2: gonna be looking for another starting outfielder. Not that Tyron
- 16:10Speaker 2: Taylor needs to be displaced or anything like that. He's
- 16:12Speaker 2: had elite fielding out there, but the hitting is definitely
- 16:15Speaker 2: something that leaves a lot to be desired. So I'm
- 16:18Speaker 2: sure the Mets can grab another big bat before the
- 16:20Speaker 2: deadline passes. David Stearns would absolutely love the chance to
- 16:23Speaker 2: do that.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Ryan'sping of the bats, Juan Soda is heating up. But
- 16:27Speaker 1: you talk about Jankowski throwing you a ball, I understand,
- 16:31Speaker 1: mister Soto threw you a ball?
- 16:33Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 16:33Speaker 1: Oh? He did.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Absolutely Now wasn't a live game ball, as much as
- 16:38Speaker 2: I would like to say, But now it was one
- 16:40Speaker 2: of those toss ups that somehow went my way. So
- 16:43Speaker 2: you can't be too mad at that.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Absolutely not. And are you pleased with his turn on?
- 16:47Speaker 1: I feel like the snub is fired. I'm up a
- 16:50Speaker 1: little bit.
- 16:50Speaker 2: I think it has. And I know there's a lot
- 16:52Speaker 2: of Mets fans out there that say, oh, Soda was
- 16:55Speaker 2: snub d should have been in the All Star Game?
- 16:57Speaker 2: Why the heck is he not making it over for
- 16:59Speaker 2: Nida to tease? They're all crying about it. But quite frankly,
- 17:05Speaker 2: if he had more consistency in his season thus far,
- 17:09Speaker 2: I'm talking March, April, even part of May. Had he
- 17:14Speaker 2: been consistent the full season, he would have made it,
- 17:16Speaker 2: for sure. But one good month, Quite frankly, I really
- 17:20Speaker 2: don't think that's a snub. Is contrary to what a
- 17:23Speaker 2: lot of Mets fans are saying. I mean, I just
- 17:25Speaker 2: need more consistency from my all stars right there. And
- 17:28Speaker 2: I know that's a very unpopular opinion in Mets country,
- 17:30Speaker 2: but it's something that I'm not really afraid to say.
- 17:33Speaker 1: No, mister Pete Alonso and a lot of fans I've
- 17:38Speaker 1: seen want him to get the money now, you know,
- 17:40Speaker 1: like just sign them.
- 17:41Speaker 2: Up already exactly. Yeah, because when he signed his new
- 17:45Speaker 2: contract with the Mets, it also includes that player opt
- 17:48Speaker 2: out after year one, So everybody knows he's gonna take it,
- 17:51Speaker 2: no question, and he is for sure gonna get a
- 17:54Speaker 2: bag in the offseason now that his value is just
- 17:56Speaker 2: gonna be completely reset as of now. I mean again,
- 18:00Speaker 2: we'll have to see what happens in September with the
- 18:03Speaker 2: with him really struggling down the stretch for the Mets
- 18:06Speaker 2: before the playoffs, so it is a little early to tell,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but I have a lot of faith in Pete.
- 18:12Speaker 1: All Right, Well, Ryan, this has been awesome. And one
- 18:15Speaker 1: other thing I gotta ask you the MVP debate last year,
- 18:19Speaker 1: I mean, it wasn't really a debate. Judge was the guy,
- 18:22Speaker 1: but Bobby Wood Junior was making a very very strong
- 18:25Speaker 1: case as well. He was now Rally's making a case
- 18:28Speaker 1: could we see a Judge rally even with junior competition
- 18:32Speaker 1: for MVP.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Here, Yeah, I could very well see that. And by
- 18:36Speaker 2: junior you mean Camon.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Arow no cal rally and then Bobby Wit junior.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Ah, Bobby Wit junior. See, I'm thinking of multiple juniors here.
- 18:43Speaker 2: It's kind of a funny dynamic how that works out.
- 18:45Speaker 2: But I think it'll be between Judge and Big Dumper
- 18:50Speaker 2: for sure. Who Pat McAfee was introducing him as having
- 18:55Speaker 2: the fattest button in all of professional sports. Kind of
- 18:58Speaker 2: a funny pro bow that he cut there. You know, absolutely,
- 19:01Speaker 2: with the way that Raley's been breaking all these records
- 19:05Speaker 2: for catchers that have pretty much been unheard of almost
- 19:09Speaker 2: now he's in Todd Hunley ninety six territory, and well,
- 19:15Speaker 2: you know, if he keeps breaking these records, don't be
- 19:17Speaker 2: surprised if he wins the MVP, even over Judge. No less,
- 19:21Speaker 2: I mean he it's his a word to lose. I
- 19:24Speaker 2: would say, it's ever Judge's MVP to lose.
- 19:26Speaker 1: All right, very bold there. I think the Mets and Yanks, somehow,
- 19:30Speaker 1: at the end of the break into the break have
- 19:32Speaker 1: positioned themselves in a very very reasonable way and we'll
- 19:36Speaker 1: catch up with you maybe in the third quarter poll,
- 19:38Speaker 1: like in September, when we're down the stretch here.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe when the Mets inevitably somehow collapse in August.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Not saying that will happen, but you know, I've been
- 19:46Speaker 2: through enough seasons.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that's that's why I tell Yankee fans you'd
- 19:50Speaker 1: rather collapse in June rather than in September.
- 19:53Speaker 2: We've all seen that before, exactly. And you know, as
- 19:56Speaker 2: a Mets fan, I know what collapsing in May feels like.
- 19:59Speaker 2: And time it happened, it turned out pretty well. So
- 20:01Speaker 2: now let's think.
- 20:02Speaker 1: You guys went from and five to the two steps
- 20:05Speaker 1: away from the World Series? So good?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Where has Gary co ineloquently put it from oh to
- 20:09Speaker 2: five to omg?
- 20:11Speaker 1: Exactly? All right, Ryan Pagano always a pledge to have
- 20:13Speaker 1: you on, and do check out his podcast PAGs Perspective. Yes,
- 20:17Speaker 1: PAGs Perspective, let's get.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It right, all right? Sounds good. Not Pagano's rituals yet.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Yeah. Maybe maybe maybe we're down the road, but for
- 20:26Speaker 1: now PAGs Perspective. We'll talk to you soon. Ryan.
- 20:28Speaker 2: All right, much appreciated, Alex. Great to be on your show.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Ones for it,
