Epstein Files Push Britain Into Institutional Crisis (6/9/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

0:00
Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
0:02
Epstein Chronicles. When the Jeffrey Epstein scandal was breaking once again,
0:08
all the way back in July of last year, I
0:10
told you that things were going to get hectic over
0:13
in the UK, and boy have they become hectic. The
0:18
situation over in the UK is not only growing by
0:21
the day, but it's putting a lot of people in
0:24
serious jeopardy. There's a lot of questions now about why
0:29
people look the other way and why the Metropolitan Police
0:32
didn't step in to stop what was going on sooner.
0:36
And not only that, but according to polling, the Royal
0:41
family's approval ratings are the worse they've been in decades.
0:46
Then you add to the mix that Starmer has a
0:48
lot going on as far as people trying to get
0:51
rid of him, and you got the perfect environment for
0:54
some shit to pop off. So today we have an
0:58
article from the Eastern Herald dot com and the headline
1:02
Epstein files are tearing Britain's institutions apart and the polling
1:06
proves it. This article was authored by the europe Desk.
1:11
The first question is not about Jeffrey Epstein, It's about
1:14
what kind of country allows this much to happen and
1:17
still can't name who bears responsibility. And I think that's
1:20
a pretty fair question. Somebody made the choice to look
1:23
the other way, somebody made the choice to protect them.
1:26
Who's at somebody? And it's the same question we ask
1:29
here in the United States. There's all these people involved
1:32
in protecting this dude. How come we don't know who
1:34
they are? And don't give me that, Oh, it's a
1:36
nameless bureaucrat BS. That's nonsense. I think we've already disproved
1:41
that time and time again. That's the question now hanging
1:46
over Britain, and it has no clean answer. The Epstein files,
1:49
roughly three million documents released by the US Department of
1:53
Justice since January of twenty twenty six, have not merely
1:56
damaged reputations. They've done something more durable. They have quantified
2:02
in polling data, in parliamentary votes and resignation letters, the
2:06
degree to which the British public no longer trusts the
2:09
state that governs it. And it's the same shit we're
2:11
dealing with here in America. All of these institutions nobody
2:16
trusts them, and that's the big problem. If you can't
2:20
trust the Department of Justice to go after people like Epstein,
2:24
then what are we even doing here? No single institution
2:29
has been spared. The monarchy, Parliament and Metro Police have
2:33
each absorbed body blows from the same scandal in the
2:36
same months, with consequences that are compounding rather than settling. Look,
2:42
I know it's rough, I know it sucks, and I
2:44
know it's painful, but now's the time to pull the
2:47
band aid off and I would love to see the
2:52
UK do that. I'd love to see them lead the way,
2:54
But I feel like it's more of a cover up
2:56
and it sucks. It really sucks that we can't trust
2:59
anybody that's in a position to go after the people
3:03
that should be hemmed up. But they have no one
3:05
to blame but themselves, right, They're the ones that made
3:07
the choices. They're the ones that look the other way,
3:10
They're the ones that shirk their responsibility, and they're the
3:13
ones now that have to answer for it. The data
3:17
at this point is not subtle. According to ipso's polling
3:20
conducted between February thirteenth and sixteenth, every senior member of
3:24
the royal family saw personal approval ratings declined compared to
3:28
November of twenty twenty five, support for King Charles fell
3:33
nine percentage points to forty six percent. Prince William dropped eight,
3:37
Princess Ann nine. Most strikingly, backing for the monarchy as
3:41
an institution slipped to forty seven percent, the first time
3:46
in modern polling it has fallen below a majority. Yo,
3:49
I've said this for how long. The monarchy is something
3:52
of the past, and the Queen did a lot of
3:55
damage by protecting Andrew. I know people don't want to
3:58
hear that. I get a lot of love for the Queen.
4:02
I'm not saying she was a bad person, but she
4:05
made a lot of bad decisions when it comes to Andrew.
4:09
And now that bill is come and do and do
4:12
you really think that Charles is the guy to handle it,
4:14
He's the guy that's going to fix everything, that's going
4:17
to usher the monarchy into a new century. Well, if
4:20
you think that, you're now in the minority in the UK.
4:23
A separate Savanta survey for the anti monarchy group Republic
4:27
put institutional support for the crown at forty five percent,
4:31
down three points in four months. Not exactly the trajectory
4:34
you're looking for, And those numbers arrived before Andrew mount
4:38
Batten Windsor, the younger brother of King Charles, was arrested
4:42
on February nineteenth a suspicion of misconduct in public office,
4:47
the first senior British royal to be taken into police
4:49
custody in nearly four centuries. What an absolute embarrassment, all
4:56
of you out there that never lived up to your
4:57
parents' expectations. Have no fear you pell in comparison to
5:02
Prince Andrew. Imagine being given all that privilege, all that money, wealth,
5:08
access and doing this with it. Absolute scumbag. Thames Valley
5:16
Police were examining whether Mount Baton Windsor, during his time
5:20
as UK Special Envoy for International Trade, forwarded classified government
5:24
reports to Epstein. King Charles responded with a statement signed
5:28
Charles R. Rather than routed through Buckingham Palace. The deliberate
5:34
informality was its own signal the Palace was distancing itself
5:38
by name from the King's own brother. Mount Baton Windsor
5:42
was released under investigation after approximately eleven hours. No charges
5:47
have been brought. The investigation remains open and I have
5:51
my doubts, I really have my doubts just how far
5:54
it's gonna go. It should go real far right, should
5:58
be real expansive, a full on league colonoscopy. But remember
6:02
we're talking about power, and power protects power. So I
6:06
have serious reservations if that's about to change. As Eastern
6:11
Herald reported in April, the arrest triggered a global reaction
6:15
precisely because it demonstrated that formal legal accountability was, at
6:19
a minimum possible, even for figures who had previously seemed
6:22
insulated by proximity to the throne. Whether the investigation ends
6:29
in charges is a question that as of June twenty
6:31
twenty six, no one inside or outside the Metropolitan Police
6:35
has been willing to predict. Look again, I don't know.
6:39
I would hope that it would, and I would hope
6:42
they have the evidence to go after whoever they need to.
6:45
But I have my doubts. The crisis that the Palace
6:48
would be serious enough on its own, But the Epstein
6:51
files arrived in a country whose political class was already
6:54
struggling to justify itself. Kiros Starmer won the twenty twenty
6:59
four general election with a majority of one hundred and
7:02
seventy two seats. Within eighteen months, IPSOS recorded his net
7:06
favorability rating at minus sixty six, the lowest for any
7:09
sitting prime minister since the polling firm began tracking the
7:13
figure in nineteen seventy seven. The mechanism of that collapse
7:18
runs directly through the Epstein files. In December of twenty
7:21
twenty four, Starmer appointed Peter Mandelsson as the UK's ambassador
7:26
to DC. Mandelssohn's social connection to Epstein was publicly known
7:30
before the posting was announced big time, and it wasn't
7:34
just like a rumor. Everybody knew that Mandelsson and Epstein
7:37
were very close. Starmer appointed him anyway. Starmer later told
7:43
Parliament that he knew of Mandelsson's friendship with Epstein, but
7:47
that Mandelssohn had died repeatedly to my team when asked
7:49
about his relationship with Epstein before and during his tenure.
7:54
He fired Mandelssohn in September twenty twenty five after emails
7:58
emerge showing Mandelsshn had made contact with Epstein following Epstein's
8:02
two thousand and eight conviction. So did everybody else. Let's
8:06
not make pretend here that you know, mister mister Mandelssohn
8:11
was the only one all these scumbags did. Further document
8:15
releases in January and June twenty twenty six deep in
8:18
the damage. According to the Washington Post, documents released on
8:23
June first showed mandelssh had assured Starmer the Washington appointment
8:27
was won, the government would never regret bank statements in
8:31
the files. As Time reported suggested, Epstein had made payments
8:35
totaling seventy five thousand two accounts connected to Mandelssohn between
8:38
two thousand and three and two thousand and four. Mandelsh
8:42
resigned from the Labor Party in February twenty twenty six,
8:45
and subsequently from the House of Awards. Yeah, he was
8:49
forced to. If he had his own way, he would
8:53
have stayed there forever getting rich on the public dime,
8:56
stealing from the people of the UK. The parliamentary fallout
9:02
was severe and rapid. By May, over ninety five Labor
9:05
MPs had called on Starmer to resign or set out
9:08
a departure timetable held Secretary west Reading resign from cabinet
9:13
on May fourteenth, telling colleagues that Starmer will not leave
9:16
the Labor Party into the next general election. He stops
9:20
short of formally triggering a leadership contest, which requires signatures
9:24
from one fifth of the Parliamentary Party. As of June eighth,
9:28
Starmer remains in office, insisting he will stay. What comes
9:32
next is genuinely unclear. The Labor Party's internal arithmetic and
9:37
the ninety five plus pms on record suggests a resolution
9:40
will not be tidy. And look, when it comes to politics,
9:45
especially in places like the UK, when is it these
9:49
guys are going to be looking to, you know, go
9:50
after their opponents, just like here in America, same kind
9:54
of shit, and they're going to look to try and
9:56
capitalize on these missteps. The Metro Police faces a different
10:02
kind of accounting. Trust in the force had already been
10:05
corrooting for years through scandals including the murder of Sarah
10:09
Evrard by a serving officer and the Spy Cops inquiry findings.
10:13
A Guardian poll in twenty twenty four placed trust in
10:16
the Metro Police at just thirty four percent. The Epstein
10:20
files have added specific documented allegations to that general mistrust.
10:25
That met officers were present at dinner parties hosted by
10:28
mountbat and Windsor and attended by Epstein, that eighty seven
10:32
Epstein linked private flights entered and departed UK airports carrying
10:36
unidentified female passengers without meaningful scrutiny, and that the met
10:41
had identified a London property rented by Epstein in which
10:44
young women were reportedly housed under conditions of financial coercion,
10:49
trafficked and declined to investigate further on the grounds that
10:52
no formal criminal allegation had been made against the UK
10:55
based individual. That last decision, now public and document, has
11:00
been widely characterized as a failure of institutional responsibility. The
11:05
question leaves it open whether it reflected operational caution, inadequate procedure,
11:10
or something worse is one The Metro Police has not answered.
11:14
The force's statement that officers had followed all reasonable lines
11:17
of inquiry was made in a context that those lines
11:20
of inquiry are now subject to parliamentary and judicial scrutiny.
11:25
A UK prosecutor, as Eastern Herald reported last week, warned
11:28
in early June that a full inquiry could take over
11:31
a year. Survivors have characterized that timeline as a continued injustice. Look,
11:37
I get it, they want this shit to get growing,
11:39
get cracking, as it should, but it's going to take time.
11:44
Taken separately, any one of these threads, the monarchy's polland collapse,
11:48
the Labor government's parliamentary crisis, the police unanswered questions would
11:52
be manageable. Britain's political culture is experienced at absorbing individual scandal.
11:59
What makes the present moment structurally distinct is the convergence
12:03
all three institutions are damaged by the same source in
12:06
the same news cycle. If those data from April twenty
12:10
twenty six found that two thirds of British adults do
12:13
not have confidence the government is running the country with integrity,
12:17
that figure is not the product of one scandal. It
12:20
reflects the effect of watching the institutions designed to prevent
12:24
this kind of thing fail simultaneously to prevent it, and
12:28
not only that, but clean it up. It's one thing
12:31
to fail and admit, look, we fucked up. We got
12:33
to get our act together. That's not what happened here.
12:36
They just keep doubling down on the bullshit, over and
12:39
over and over again. None of this has a clear
12:43
resolution in sight. The investigation into Mountbatten Windsor remains open.
12:47
Starmer as of Monday, continues to insist he will lead
12:50
Labor into the next general election. Whether that turns out
12:54
to be true is one of several things in this
12:56
story that no one has been able to promise with
12:59
a straight face. And I'm certainly no expert in UK politics,
13:03
but I think that eventually Starmer has to go, and
13:07
I don't think that it's a question of if. I
13:10
think it's a question of when. So like usual, we'll
13:13
keep an eye on things, and when we have some
13:15
more information one way or the other, we'll get it
13:17
added to the catalog. All the information that goes with
