- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm Joe.
- 0:12Speaker 2: I went from Arabella and the Heist and we've just
- 0:15Speaker 2: released song Maraschino. It's a dance punk track.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Very nice, Gonna says for joining us today, Thank you
- 0:24Speaker 3: too much. As you say Arabella and the Heighst. You
- 0:27Speaker 3: released your latest song, Mattichino a couple of weeks ago
- 0:30Speaker 3: on September twelfth, So how's the only reception been for it?
- 0:33Speaker 2: Been really great? Actually, I've been really excited to see
- 0:35Speaker 2: other people have been excited about it, because it's it's
- 0:38Speaker 2: one thing to be in the studio and be like, oh,
- 0:41Speaker 2: we're making this fusion punk dance thing and you're really
- 0:44Speaker 2: excited about it, and then when it actually comes out
- 0:46Speaker 2: and other people are excited about it, you're like, Okay,
- 0:49Speaker 2: we went into the cryptic manic episode.
- 0:55Speaker 3: The press release calls it your wildest and most electrifying
- 0:58Speaker 3: single yet, would you agree with it?
- 1:00Speaker 2: I think it's probably our most chaotic.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, definitely, I think. And yeah, we kind of
- 1:05Speaker 1: started embracing the electronic electric side a bit more with
- 1:09Speaker 1: this one, starting with Ruckers and kind of moving forward.
- 1:12Speaker 4: So nice.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Nice, And so you you mentioned the electronics, So tell
- 1:17Speaker 3: us a bit more about the song from a musical
- 1:18Speaker 3: point of view, and what you were going for this
- 1:20Speaker 3: sun Around.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Well, it's the song was actually it's It came through
- 1:24Speaker 1: Ryan Now drummer. Actually he sent through the bare bones
- 1:27Speaker 1: of the song and he'd been playing around on MIDI tracks,
- 1:30Speaker 1: so it was kind of like a MIDI dancy thing,
- 1:32Speaker 1: and then we went into the studio rehearsal and kind
- 1:35Speaker 1: of transposed it onto guitars, bass and drums and kind
- 1:39Speaker 1: of worked from it from there. So it always had
- 1:41Speaker 1: basic in the electronic synthy sounds, so we wanted to
- 1:45Speaker 1: keep some of that element but bring us as a
- 1:48Speaker 1: live band into it and kind of fuse those sort
- 1:52Speaker 1: of two elements.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Right, So, Hey, how would you say it differs musically
- 1:55Speaker 3: to your previous two singles, Electric nineteen seventy six.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I would think it probably we leaned into like especially
- 2:04Speaker 2: with the samples and the synths and everything. I think
- 2:07Speaker 2: we've we've found our niche in that kind of dance thing,
- 2:14Speaker 2: and I think that's just come from playing songs like
- 2:16Speaker 2: Electric and zemon A six nine live and the energy
- 2:20Speaker 2: in the in the Martian and the dance or we've
- 2:23Speaker 2: been wanting to just harness.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That more and I think those two previous songs, we
- 2:28Speaker 1: went into it kind of going how are we going
- 2:30Speaker 1: to play these songs live? So they're very much just
- 2:33Speaker 1: guitars and bassed drum vocal, whereas this newer stuff with
- 2:36Speaker 1: sort of going that doesn't matter. We can figure that out.
- 2:40Speaker 1: We might even play it differently, but we make like
- 2:42Speaker 1: a dancey, fun song in the moment, and it doesn't
- 2:46Speaker 1: We're not trying to constrict ourselves to just what the
- 2:49Speaker 1: four of us can play at the one time. We're
- 2:52Speaker 1: just going, Okay, what can we add to this to
- 2:54Speaker 1: make it cool and fun and different?
- 2:56Speaker 3: And you mentioned that you want to try and capture
- 2:58Speaker 3: the energy of the dance for in a song, So
- 3:00Speaker 3: how will you use that to do in the studio?
- 3:02Speaker 4: Like it doesn't sound like it would be.
- 3:04Speaker 2: It's hard at times, especially when you're doing the same
- 3:07Speaker 2: drum track over and over and over and over. Yeah,
- 3:11Speaker 2: because especially we're doing a dance track, the sinking of
- 3:15Speaker 2: elements can be like very important. So trying to maintain
- 3:20Speaker 2: the energy is saying you need to be aware of.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But I think we're a pretty high energy group of people.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a good The press release also mentions that
- 3:31Speaker 3: the song captures a new edge for the band. So
- 3:33Speaker 3: is that with the symps and the electronics are talking
- 3:35Speaker 3: about or is it a bit broader than that?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I think so, and I think us kind of leaning
- 3:39Speaker 1: more into the less of the generic kind of straightforward
- 3:42Speaker 1: punk rock stuff that is everywhere in Melbourne and us
- 3:45Speaker 1: trying to go, Okay, how do we do that because
- 3:47Speaker 1: there's so many bands that are doing that great? How
- 3:50Speaker 1: do we do our take on that that isn't the
- 3:52Speaker 1: same thing that other people are already doing really good?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:55Speaker 4: Right, cool? Cool?
- 3:56Speaker 3: And we mentioned the previous singles Electric and nine in
- 3:59Speaker 3: seventy six. Are all three of them together? Are they
- 4:01Speaker 3: stand alone singles or are they part of a bigger picture.
- 4:04Speaker 2: They're They're part of something that's coming in.
- 4:09Speaker 1: It is it is, it is in the It is
- 4:11Speaker 1: a thing.
- 4:12Speaker 2: There is a big There is a large body of work,
- 4:15Speaker 2: and it is on the horizon. We can't quite make
- 4:18Speaker 2: it out yet, but it's there.
- 4:20Speaker 3: I won't push you on it. I will ask you
- 4:23Speaker 3: know that Masino.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Is a little bit different.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Like you say, it's got those elements in it, But
- 4:28Speaker 3: which are the three songs? Is the rest of whatever
- 4:30Speaker 3: we're doing gonna sound more like.
- 4:33Speaker 1: To be honest, it is a very big mix. It
- 4:36Speaker 1: probably will. It's if you take the original the first
- 4:40Speaker 1: two that you're talking seventy sixty nine electric and then
- 4:42Speaker 1: Maraschino and Ruckus and kind of potentially the one that
- 4:46Speaker 1: we have come next, it will kind of be like
- 4:49Speaker 1: a blend of that. So there will be the mixture
- 4:51Speaker 1: of the kind of straightforward punk songs, there will be
- 4:56Speaker 1: the rock mixed with the electronic, and then even maybe
- 4:59Speaker 1: certain songs that don't have any live instrumentation on them
- 5:02Speaker 1: at all.
- 5:02Speaker 4: We're just be.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Able to show that for us, like Punker's, the genre
- 5:06Speaker 2: is more about the energy than the instrumentation, and and
- 5:10Speaker 2: that can come in many forms. But the album and
- 5:13Speaker 2: I will call them and as a whole does have
- 5:18Speaker 2: it is us. So when negating the use of instruments
- 5:23Speaker 2: to create the sound and more using the energy to
- 5:26Speaker 2: create a sound and whatever means that comes through.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Well and sticking with whatever gets recorded is us. And
- 5:33Speaker 1: that's what it is. We're not going to try and
- 5:34Speaker 1: pigeonhole ourselves.
- 5:36Speaker 4: That's good.
- 5:37Speaker 3: And the other side of this thing, too, guys, is
- 5:39Speaker 3: you've got a reputation for your unapologetic live performances. Like
- 5:43Speaker 3: one observer stated that your gigs tita on the edge
- 5:45Speaker 3: of madness, like awesome, but it sounds terrified at the
- 5:49Speaker 3: same time.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I think that comes from my uncoordination. That's merely just
- 5:56Speaker 2: me not having spatial awareness.
- 6:00Speaker 1: No matter how much I try, I can't stand still
- 6:02Speaker 1: on the stage. So I'm flavoring myself around and it's
- 6:05Speaker 1: kind of just a it's just us just letting it
- 6:09Speaker 1: loose and kind of just go and this is us
- 6:12Speaker 1: and again unapologetically us, and yeah, kind of not too
- 6:16Speaker 1: much deal with it, but yeah, deal with it. Here
- 6:18Speaker 1: we are.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I was talking to some of your photos and there's
- 6:21Speaker 3: a lot of live shots on there, and it looks
- 6:23Speaker 3: like it's you don't leave anything behind. I put it
- 6:25Speaker 3: that way when you go up there.
- 6:27Speaker 1: No, that's the plan, and that's that's I think for
- 6:30Speaker 1: me especially, that's what I enjoyed. Go and see bands doing.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I want to see you for performing doing. I couldn't
- 6:38Speaker 1: care if a band plays their songs wrong. If it
- 6:40Speaker 1: looks like they're having fun and they're energetic, that's what
- 6:42Speaker 1: I kind of enjoying a live show.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Speaking of live you've got the single launcher, the old
- 6:48Speaker 3: bar in fitz Roy on October fourth, So tell us
- 6:50Speaker 3: a bit more about that and where to get tickets.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Ah, we are playing oh by yeah October fourth with
- 6:55Speaker 2: the Strip and with one Bat, two bands where super
- 6:59Speaker 2: excited to be playing with and tickets aren't.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Us tics Maybe mush Chick tickets in open Arabella and
- 7:07Speaker 1: the hest Old Bar promotion stuff.
- 7:14Speaker 4: What does the rest of.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Twenty twenty five leading into twenty twenty six look like
- 7:17Speaker 3: for Arabella and the Heist?
- 7:19Speaker 2: Well, music, the trains that the train's not stopping. We're
- 7:23Speaker 2: just continuing this mission of trying to show people what
- 7:29Speaker 2: we're what we're about and the sound that we're putting
- 7:32Speaker 2: out at the.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Moment, playing more shows, finishing off more songs. Absolutely that
- 7:36Speaker 1: kind of yeah, just pushing forward.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Before I let you go, guys, I've got a new
- 7:41Speaker 3: segment I've started called photo Bombs. So basically, I've trotted
- 7:44Speaker 3: through your social media before you got a chat, and
- 7:46Speaker 3: I picked out a couple of photos that I want
- 7:47Speaker 3: to know more about. It's just like I found this
- 7:49Speaker 3: one to be a little bit strange because to me,
- 7:52Speaker 3: it's just a photo of black boots on an elevator.
- 7:56Speaker 4: But if I missing something more.
- 8:01Speaker 2: That's definitely Joe's shoes.
- 8:03Speaker 4: That's me.
- 8:03Speaker 1: But I don't know where did you find that?
- 8:05Speaker 4: I think we were.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I was watching Why the hell what am I missing?
- 8:12Speaker 3: Like what else is in there?
- 8:14Speaker 2: I think we're worthy statically driven band and if something,
- 8:20Speaker 2: if something moves me, then it gets posted. And at
- 8:23Speaker 2: the time, I think there was something about Joe's shoes,
- 8:26Speaker 2: which those are the shoes you now wear live on stage,
- 8:29Speaker 2: so maybe this was a foreshadowing. You weren't wearing them
- 8:32Speaker 2: on stage at the time, so this image is a
- 8:35Speaker 2: foreshadowing of what's to can't well.
- 8:38Speaker 3: I actually kept scrolling through because I thought it might
- 8:39Speaker 3: have been it before and after shot, and the next
- 8:41Speaker 3: one his shoelacers would have been brought in.
- 8:42Speaker 2: It on his face.
- 8:47Speaker 3: And the second one I've found it's a pretty cool one,
- 8:51Speaker 3: like it's awesome actually, like you're throwing a head kick
- 8:54Speaker 3: at Al made a there looking unfaith with his hands
- 8:57Speaker 3: in his pocket, so I really know if you're going
- 8:59Speaker 3: to short or he's got a lot of trust.
- 9:02Speaker 1: To be honest, she was that that is me in
- 9:04Speaker 1: the photo. Yeah, she was saying, look how high I
- 9:07Speaker 1: can kick, and I was kind of just like, yeah,
- 9:10Speaker 1: that is that is average. That is an average kick.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Neither impressed or disappointed is what that is.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I have this, I have this frame on my wall.
- 9:19Speaker 2: I love this photo. I think I love it because
- 9:23Speaker 2: I think it sums up the energy of a lot
- 9:26Speaker 2: of especially on stage, of just like I'm going to
- 9:30Speaker 2: do this thing that's probably not a good idea, and
- 9:33Speaker 2: goes like fucking do it.
- 9:35Speaker 3: See how I got Whatever happens happens, But it's on
- 9:39Speaker 3: you on the right with his hands up like.
- 9:42Speaker 2: Look like he's like, what's going to happen? That's Luke,
- 9:46Speaker 2: our current drummer base play.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So in this photo Luke there on the right hand side,
- 9:52Speaker 1: he was actually our drummer at that point in the band.
- 9:54Speaker 1: This was years ago now and he's recently come back
- 9:57Speaker 1: on board as our bass player.
- 9:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:59Speaker 2: So these two lads here have watched My watch My
- 10:05Speaker 2: Shenanigans for nearly six years now.
- 10:09Speaker 3: So yeah, And the captain on the post said that
- 10:12Speaker 3: if anyone that could kick higher than you, they got
- 10:14Speaker 3: a free beer that night.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Was there that's still many takers? Was there any anyone taken?
- 10:19Speaker 2: I think we did actually have a few takers, and
- 10:21Speaker 2: we did have a like a dancer coming out do
- 10:23Speaker 2: me on that one. But I think that as a
- 10:27Speaker 2: as a thing. I think that's running high.
- 10:30Speaker 4: Sty've got a bad height there, like you've got some style.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Six foot tall, so that's not a bad height to
- 10:37Speaker 2: get to.
- 10:38Speaker 3: That's well done, mate, But I wouldn't be just standing
- 10:40Speaker 3: there with my hands in my pockets like that. Might
- 10:41Speaker 3: I want to turn around and run by.
- 10:42Speaker 4: Now.
- 10:44Speaker 1: I didn't actually think she would get that high.
- 10:46Speaker 4: So all right, guys, well thanks for chat. It's been
- 10:50Speaker 4: a pleasure speak with you. Mattistino is out now.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Apparently there might be some more music coming out later
- 10:55Speaker 3: on this year, but hopefully you guys make it up
- 10:57Speaker 3: to Brisbane sooner.
- 10:58Speaker 4: I'll come down to a beer with it, and.
- 11:02Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 11:09Speaker 5: I feel ten chance creeping out. I feel these body's past.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Touch and scam and I curse the man.
- 11:17Speaker 5: I meet some young car when it kicks out.
- 11:37Speaker 6: She's a joy a new session just remnios cumantic good
- 11:42Speaker 6: so she could chou.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Mention she's attention no exception seems christ to ask.
- 12:33Speaker 7: You guess to you you want to kill it's an
- 12:36Speaker 7: obsessional spending tess attentional fout session.
- 12:46Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes it's not messy s S S S
- 13:19Speaker 5: S S.
- 13:22Speaker 6: S t's that massy.
- 13:42Speaker 7: It taste, that massy taste like massy
- 13:55Speaker 6: Takes that messy save his life S
