- 0:08Speaker 3: The worlds of viage and podcasts.
- 0:15Speaker 4: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota dot Com.
- 0:22Speaker 5: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 0:27Speaker 5: at Gillette Stadium. Boy, it's easy to get confused these days.
- 0:30Speaker 5: We are here at our normal time noon. We're getting
- 0:34Speaker 5: to the end. Yeah, Thursday is our last World Cup
- 0:37Speaker 5: game here at Boston Stadium. So a big quarterfinal game
- 0:42Speaker 5: was a Morocco in France.
- 0:44Speaker 6: Yeah, in the house.
- 0:45Speaker 5: Yeah, it could have been a better job. But anyway,
- 0:48Speaker 5: it's a.
- 0:48Speaker 6: Good game, you think. So it's like two of the
- 0:51Speaker 6: top six teams. Well, now they're all the top teams, right,
- 0:54Speaker 6: but I mean they're highly ranked. Yeah, Like Norway has
- 0:57Speaker 6: played really well in the World Cup, and I don't
- 0:59Speaker 6: think they're like one of the top five.
- 1:00Speaker 5: Or six teams in the world anyway.
- 1:04Speaker 6: So PAULI, mister soccer, I know nothing.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I don't believe now.
- 1:11Speaker 5: I'm sure we're going to get into what happened last
- 1:13Speaker 5: night in a little bit. But it's Paul, it's me.
- 1:18Speaker 5: It's deuce, it's Alex. Evan is on vacation. Yeah what
- 1:21Speaker 5: what What is vacation for Evan?
- 1:24Speaker 7: I think he goes out to the vineyards. The vineyards,
- 1:27Speaker 7: that's his special spot out there. He always takes a nice,
- 1:30Speaker 7: nice vacation out there.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Okay, so enjoying his time.
- 1:32Speaker 7: Although we were hearing plenty from him on the text
- 1:35Speaker 7: messages about the soccer in fairness kind of yeah, jumped
- 1:41Speaker 7: into it.
- 1:41Speaker 8: And then I sent him a wellness shuck too after
- 1:43Speaker 8: the Jilen Brown trade.
- 1:44Speaker 5: So yeah, that's.
- 1:46Speaker 6: What that was about.
- 1:47Speaker 7: I literally had no idea when you were like, sorry,
- 1:49Speaker 7: I was on vacation myself.
- 1:50Speaker 6: I had no idea.
- 1:51Speaker 5: So I wasn't here last week. Did you guys talk
- 1:53Speaker 5: about the Jaylen Brown?
- 1:54Speaker 6: No, I wasn't here either, So no, So that happened
- 1:56Speaker 6: after after the show was over, so we didn't get
- 2:01Speaker 6: a chance to get the real Evan on the morning. Yeah,
- 2:04Speaker 6: but it was a bad trade. I mean that's a
- 2:06Speaker 6: bad yea.
- 2:09Speaker 5: I have thoughts on that, like I have, I have thoughts.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Like I'm not one of these like how could you
- 2:15Speaker 6: trade Jalen Brown? Guys, Like I understand what they were doing.
- 2:18Speaker 6: I understand why they did it to an extent, but
- 2:22Speaker 6: that's a bad trade. You have to get someone.
- 2:24Speaker 5: Well, they panicked, But to me, there's a lot of
- 2:29Speaker 5: stories that come out of that. One of them is
- 2:32Speaker 5: the power of the superstar in the NBA. I mean
- 2:35Speaker 5: that Jason. I mean a lot of this has to
- 2:38Speaker 5: do with Jason Tatum too, you know. And in no
- 2:43Speaker 5: sports league do superstars have that much power than the NBA.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Maybe maybe in European soccer and those premier leagues. But
- 2:52Speaker 5: it's it's incredible. But you know, we'll get to that.
- 2:55Speaker 5: The Patriots. Thing that's on my mind is Gay Bacchus. Yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 5: what was he He was some squats, doing squats like
- 3:05Speaker 5: four hundred, five hundred pounds, looking good, looking good. So
- 3:10Speaker 5: that got me excited the fact that he wanted to
- 3:12Speaker 5: post that to show people here I am working out.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Have we heard anything about like if when he's gonna
- 3:19Speaker 5: sign and when he's going to be here or if
- 3:21Speaker 5: he's going to be here thing.
- 3:22Speaker 7: Yeah, this is what I've been holding out hopefully hoping
- 3:25Speaker 7: that maybe it would get done. But he's the last
- 3:27Speaker 7: second round pick, unsigned you know, I hope that they
- 3:31Speaker 7: would get something done before training camp. But that's going
- 3:34Speaker 7: to be him and Gonzales. They're going to be the two.
- 3:37Speaker 7: Where are they that first day of camp?
- 3:38Speaker 6: Are they here? Are they watching? Are they not out here?
- 3:40Speaker 6: What's good? It's good to to me, it's it's a
- 3:43Speaker 6: physical thing. So if it was in fact, and I
- 3:45Speaker 6: know that, no one's really definitively said exactly what the
- 3:50Speaker 6: situation is. Mike Reese has called it a knee injury.
- 3:53Speaker 6: That's good enough for me because I believe in in Mike.
- 3:58Speaker 6: So if he's squatting to that extent, the knee injury
- 4:02Speaker 6: shouldn't be an issue. He'll be here for training again.
- 4:04Speaker 6: If this is not an issue about signing, it's to
- 4:07Speaker 6: me it's a health issue, and I'm still concerned until
- 4:11Speaker 6: I see him on the practice field, hopefully that will
- 4:13Speaker 6: be the first day of training.
- 4:14Speaker 5: I think it's an issue about the knee and also communication.
- 4:19Speaker 5: I think the page is like, whoa, whoa, What's what's
- 4:22Speaker 5: going on here? Well?
- 4:24Speaker 8: Does him posting that video give you guys a little pause?
- 4:26Speaker 8: Because is it like he thinks he's ready to play,
- 4:30Speaker 8: maybe the team doesn't, and he's posting that and being like, look,
- 4:33Speaker 8: let's show the public.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Like I'm spatting all this way.
- 4:35Speaker 5: I think, to me, it's for me. It's a positive thing,
- 4:39Speaker 5: you know, unless it's all fake and he's not really
- 4:41Speaker 5: squatting that.
- 4:42Speaker 6: But you know, I guess squats it wasn't really getting that.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Look at any anything could be like, you know. But
- 4:51Speaker 5: for another word, if you've got a need that's even
- 4:54Speaker 5: bothering you a little bit, you don't put up four
- 4:56Speaker 5: five hundred pounds squats. That's the worst thing you can do, right.
- 5:00Speaker 7: But I mean to Paul's point, though, I just wonder,
- 5:01Speaker 7: is the contract related to the injury and is this
- 5:04Speaker 7: you know what I mean, it's all tied together. It
- 5:06Speaker 7: was like once the contract is signed and they figured
- 5:08Speaker 7: it all out, and you know, but I do think
- 5:11Speaker 7: the greater point is that if he's squatting right now,
- 5:14Speaker 7: hopefully things are in line.
- 5:15Speaker 6: We're going to figure it out. That's how I fend,
- 5:17Speaker 6: you know, just reading through.
- 5:18Speaker 9: Uh.
- 5:19Speaker 7: You know, ESPN did their their starting lineup projections for
- 5:21Speaker 7: the thirty two teams and ranked the Patriots.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Did very well.
- 5:24Speaker 6: They were what eighth, I think they're seven seven?
- 5:27Speaker 5: Thank goodness, I got it right here. Uh they were seventh.
- 5:32Speaker 5: Because I'll live and die by these all of a
- 5:33Speaker 5: sudden ranking, all of.
- 5:34Speaker 6: A sudden your your anti list, that the Patriots do
- 5:37Speaker 6: well in them, Yeah, because they're not defend their third
- 5:41Speaker 6: best in the anti.
- 5:42Speaker 5: List, so that when we don't do bad, I can
- 5:44Speaker 5: dismiss it, but they do when we do bad.
- 5:47Speaker 6: I'm going to not talk about the other things that
- 5:49Speaker 6: I saw on lists regarding the Patriots that I don't
- 5:51Speaker 6: want Fred to yell at me, like fishing Gonzales and
- 5:54Speaker 6: Traveon Henders very high.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Very very high, but they do list the biggest weakness
- 5:57Speaker 7: there as edge rusher, and they would be nice boost
- 6:00Speaker 7: to get him in.
- 6:01Speaker 6: I know.
- 6:01Speaker 7: I saw Greg Bodard wrote that that he's heard that Patriots.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Are very high on Elijah Ponder.
- 6:06Speaker 7: We'll see if that, you know, turns out to be
- 6:07Speaker 7: true and if he's able to make a big second
- 6:09Speaker 7: year leap.
- 6:10Speaker 6: But that to me is, you know, when you look
- 6:12Speaker 6: at this team with Super.
- 6:13Speaker 7: Bowl aspirations, if gay Bachus is able to come in
- 6:15Speaker 7: and you know it doesn't have to be the hero,
- 6:16Speaker 7: but be part of the rotation, solidify that group, maybe
- 6:19Speaker 7: take some heat off of you know, guys like Landry
- 6:22Speaker 7: and Jones. It'd be a great you know, nice boost
- 6:25Speaker 7: start off camp. You get atkus back, maybe you signed
- 6:27Speaker 7: Gonzales and you're rolling.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Yep. So that's July twenty fifth, first public practice for
- 6:35Speaker 5: the new on the Patriots, and we will be live
- 6:39Speaker 5: from the ramps above the practice field as we were
- 6:43Speaker 5: last few years. So we'll open up the camp with
- 6:45Speaker 5: a live Patriots unfiltered that day. So excited about that.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Ready to go. Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 7: Other than that, not yet, but yeah, yeah, there's some
- 6:55Speaker 7: more beach days in my life that I need to
- 6:57Speaker 7: get in before I'm ready. But taken last week off,
- 6:59Speaker 7: I felt like it was the first chance I kind
- 7:01Speaker 7: of got to catch my breath post you know, just
- 7:04Speaker 7: the craziness of the last season and how it fed
- 7:06Speaker 7: right into the off season.
- 7:07Speaker 6: And I'm not complaining to everyone's dru is complaining.
- 7:10Speaker 7: Uh, it was great, but you need to clear always
- 7:13Speaker 7: complained the decks.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Yeah, clear the decks a little bit, you know, get
- 7:15Speaker 5: your Yeah. So I was off last week as well.
- 7:19Speaker 6: Evan. Either Evan and I had a terrific show, did you. Yeah,
- 7:23Speaker 6: you actually shown name. We have Peep and the deuce
- 7:26Speaker 6: Salt Peppa is what we usually go with.
- 7:28Speaker 5: You're both salty.
- 7:30Speaker 6: Yeah, he is getting a little salty, I mean more
- 7:33Speaker 6: ways than one the time.
- 7:35Speaker 7: For Alex and Evan, I would say, because the Celtics
- 7:37Speaker 7: are very much in the news and the World Cup.
- 7:39Speaker 6: Is very much to the news. And for a World
- 7:42Speaker 6: Cup Alex yesterday she lost portry goal in ten pm.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Just heartbreak. Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's okay. I'll get over there.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Anyway. Okay, So any other Patriots stuff that you want
- 7:55Speaker 5: to talk.
- 7:55Speaker 7: I was really trying, Fred. I wanted to come in
- 7:57Speaker 7: with something, but you know, this is the the dead.
- 7:59Speaker 6: Day, so there's yeah, it's not really much the way,
- 8:03Speaker 6: not way of news because Gonzales, to me, would be
- 8:06Speaker 6: the news coming Occus and Gonzales. So we haven't heard
- 8:10Speaker 6: anything about that. But there was some some interesting stuff that,
- 8:14Speaker 6: you know that you were kind of downplaying. But every
- 8:17Speaker 6: year ESPN ranks position groups in the NFL, and they
- 8:23Speaker 6: get a whole bunch of scouts and personnel guys and whatever,
- 8:27Speaker 6: and they came up with rankings and Gonzales was very
- 8:30Speaker 6: high on the cornerback list at number three, you know,
- 8:34Speaker 6: and I think he was six last year, so up
- 8:37Speaker 6: to three this year. And in the running backs came
- 8:41Speaker 6: out I think on January July sixth, and Travian Henderson
- 8:45Speaker 6: actually showed up in the also receiving votes.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Person was actually eighteenth higher than Stevenson.
- 8:52Speaker 6: Stevenson wasn't on it. Wow, Stevenson wasn't on didn't show
- 8:56Speaker 6: up at all.
- 8:57Speaker 5: So I dismissed the list.
- 8:58Speaker 6: They do a top ten and then they had honorable
- 9:01Speaker 6: mentions and then they have others, you know, also receiving votes,
- 9:04Speaker 6: and Henderson was among also receiving votes and he was
- 9:07Speaker 6: eighteenth on that list. So, like Gonzales gets a whole
- 9:12Speaker 6: rite up, so you get to see the reasoning and
- 9:14Speaker 6: the rationale votes. You don't get that, you just they
- 9:17Speaker 6: just listen names. So I don't know. My guess is
- 9:20Speaker 6: something run fast And I don't mean this to be disrespectful,
- 9:24Speaker 6: but my guess is one scout or GM or something
- 9:28Speaker 6: is predicting him to have a huge year two leap
- 9:31Speaker 6: and that's that was the vote he got. That would
- 9:34Speaker 6: be my guess. And I don't think that that's off base.
- 9:36Speaker 6: I think there's a potential there for him to have
- 9:38Speaker 6: a big year two.
- 9:39Speaker 7: Leader Tampa Bay game, right, But how something like that,
- 9:44Speaker 7: Like how I guess I'm just trying to imagine how
- 9:47Speaker 7: that would all come.
- 9:47Speaker 6: Together in Josh McDaniel's offense that you know what we've seen,
- 9:50Speaker 6: how he improved dramatically as a past protector and is
- 9:53Speaker 6: on the field all the time on third down catching like.
- 9:57Speaker 7: The James White and he's just a key passing kind
- 10:00Speaker 7: of guy.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Takes some heat off from it.
- 10:01Speaker 5: You can have him on the field on those plays.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Yeah, because I think that's what hurt his passing game
- 10:07Speaker 6: production last year is that he struggled in past.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Protect which was too bad because he came out of
- 10:11Speaker 5: college with a reputation as a good pass protector. Right.
- 10:15Speaker 5: The speed of this game is different.
- 10:17Speaker 6: Especially, I think it's too. I think it's mental too.
- 10:19Speaker 6: I think it was knowing what you know, where the
- 10:22Speaker 6: pressures were coming from, and to be prepared that way.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yep, so okay. So Lists and Gay Bacchus.
- 10:29Speaker 7: And wickershim kind of put an interesting article out today.
- 10:33Speaker 7: He was embedded with the Broncos and during the playoffs, so.
- 10:36Speaker 6: And everything was along to him the whole every he said,
- 10:39Speaker 6: everything was on the record the entirety of the week.
- 10:43Speaker 6: It's really long. I'm not finished. Did you finish it?
- 10:45Speaker 7: I was like kind of scanning it just for Patriots
- 10:48Speaker 7: Nuggets first before I got to go back and actually
- 10:50Speaker 7: actually read it.
- 10:51Speaker 5: But I love that stuff when you see you know
- 10:53Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 10:53Speaker 7: It starts off just with their week of preparing for
- 10:55Speaker 7: the Patriots, and you know, the scouts are telling them
- 10:58Speaker 7: this is what they do, and you know some scouting
- 11:00Speaker 7: report on on Drake May, and I mean really the
- 11:02Speaker 7: bottom line for them was if Drake May has a
- 11:04Speaker 7: good day running, you know, we're we're done.
- 11:07Speaker 6: And you know you think of that.
- 11:08Speaker 5: The play that sealed the game was was Drake May
- 11:10Speaker 5: on a on a bootlegs. So I wouldn't call it
- 11:13Speaker 5: a great day running, Yeah I would.
- 11:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I would say that the game unfolded exactly the
- 11:18Speaker 6: way Sean Payton wanted it to unfold. And I think
- 11:21Speaker 6: Sean Payton himself, yeah, cost cost the Broncos a chance
- 11:24Speaker 6: to win it based on the way, like if you
- 11:26Speaker 6: read all of the preparation, he knew they weren't going
- 11:28Speaker 6: to be able to you know, if it I think
- 11:31Speaker 6: they said, if it gets into a shoot, you know,
- 11:33Speaker 6: if a game declares basically it's going to have to
- 11:35Speaker 6: be a fourteen to ten game. It can't be a
- 11:37Speaker 6: thirty five thirty four game or something like that, when
- 11:39Speaker 6: he knew and he knew they were they were dead
- 11:41Speaker 6: if it was a shootout, and they succeeded in making
- 11:45Speaker 6: sure it wasn't a shootout, and I think he actually
- 11:48Speaker 6: there was. It was kind of poignant because there was
- 11:51Speaker 6: very specifics, you know, in the in the you know,
- 11:55Speaker 6: thirteen to ten kind of game, punts and field goals
- 11:58Speaker 6: are very important, whereas in a shoot those plays cost
- 12:01Speaker 6: you the game. It was a turning point they put that,
- 12:03Speaker 6: and then he cost them the game by passing up
- 12:05Speaker 6: a field goal, right if you ask me, you know,
- 12:07Speaker 6: I think they could have taken a ten to nothing
- 12:09Speaker 6: lead early in the game, and I think it really
- 12:11Speaker 6: unfolds in a much different way. So, yeah, there was
- 12:15Speaker 6: some interesting elements. One really really strange one.
- 12:18Speaker 5: I don't know if Belichick, yeah, go ahead, yeah, I
- 12:22Speaker 5: mean I read about that one. Yeah.
- 12:24Speaker 6: So he he obviously has a tight relationship with Belichick
- 12:28Speaker 6: and Parcels. He comes from Parcells's tree. They were both
- 12:31Speaker 6: on Parcells's staff together, Belichick and Peyton. So he had
- 12:35Speaker 6: said that he toyed with the idea of going to
- 12:39Speaker 6: Broncos ownership when Belichick got fired and offering to step
- 12:45Speaker 6: down as head coach to let Belichick take over as
- 12:48Speaker 6: the head coach until he won the fifteen games that
- 12:50Speaker 6: he needs to break. Wow, well, at least two, right,
- 12:55Speaker 6: I mean at least time in New England it would
- 12:56Speaker 6: have been.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean at least two. So we're going to
- 12:59Speaker 5: be a I mean coach at least for a year.
- 13:01Speaker 5: He didn't know that they were going to have such
- 13:02Speaker 5: a good season when he was toying with this idea,
- 13:05Speaker 5: so it could have been three seasons. You know, Bill
- 13:08Speaker 5: like cuts pnis. It's a good thing because it's a
- 13:11Speaker 5: good So yeah.
- 13:12Speaker 6: I mean, I think it was one of those things
- 13:14Speaker 6: that like he kind of thought about, like how it
- 13:16Speaker 6: would work, but I don't think it ever really got
- 13:18Speaker 6: to a like a serious level. But he suggested that
- 13:21Speaker 6: he would step down Belichick gets the wins, and when
- 13:24Speaker 6: Belichick gets the wins, he retires and Peyton resumes.
- 13:28Speaker 5: A bad look for Bill though, like he's at such
- 13:33Speaker 5: a situation.
- 13:33Speaker 6: I didn't think of it that way, but I like it.
- 13:35Speaker 5: This other head coach has to like basically treat him
- 13:38Speaker 5: like a charity. I like it. I like it, and
- 13:42Speaker 5: you know, we're going to manufacture this record for him.
- 13:46Speaker 7: I don't I don't know how it would have worked,
- 13:47Speaker 7: especially where two very I mean, and you read the article.
- 13:50Speaker 7: Sean Payton is in charge, and he's been a head
- 13:52Speaker 7: coach for a long time.
- 13:53Speaker 5: He knows what he wants.
- 13:54Speaker 7: Those two personalities kind of together. I mean, is Sean
- 13:57Speaker 7: Payton feeling like this is a great idea when you
- 13:59Speaker 7: know Bill comes up playing he doesn't like, I don't
- 14:01Speaker 7: know it is.
- 14:01Speaker 5: It's a It is kind of a nutty plan.
- 14:04Speaker 6: It's been and I think that's why it never really
- 14:06Speaker 6: got off the ground.
- 14:07Speaker 5: But the fact that he was I'm going to do
- 14:09Speaker 5: this for Bill and help him get this record's kind
- 14:11Speaker 5: of weird. I'm all for somebody breaking Don Shula's record
- 14:15Speaker 5: because you know, you know how we feel in Patriot's
- 14:17Speaker 5: Nation about Don Shula. But that seems really manufactured. Yeah,
- 14:22Speaker 5: I fake. Would Bill have wanted to do that?
- 14:25Speaker 6: Oh? I think you'd have done it in a blink,
- 14:27Speaker 6: great takes over. Then he would have taken credit for
- 14:31Speaker 6: it drafting for them too.
- 14:34Speaker 5: Are you going to pay him like an NFL head coach.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Sean Payton as a retainer?
- 14:39Speaker 8: So he just chilled John Payton just really wanted like
- 14:41Speaker 8: a couple of like two three seasons of vacation.
- 14:45Speaker 7: I think he just wanted to put it out in
- 14:46Speaker 7: this article about how much he loves Bill and like.
- 14:49Speaker 5: Thinking of your buddy. I was thinking of you.
- 14:51Speaker 7: I was about to do anything for you to help
- 14:53Speaker 7: you get there, but unfortunately we couldn't make it work.
- 14:56Speaker 5: But you know, think about like strategically, hey, I can
- 14:59Speaker 5: bring in Bill, he can be in charge of all
- 15:02Speaker 5: this stuff while I just focus on the offense and
- 15:05Speaker 5: get that right with this new quarterback. And then when
- 15:09Speaker 5: everything's ready to go builds out, I'm in and we're
- 15:13Speaker 5: you know, perennial playoff contecht.
- 15:15Speaker 6: I'm not leaving, Actually you're leaving. Imagine if Denver, like
- 15:20Speaker 6: you know, ends up having winning like three super Bowls
- 15:23Speaker 6: in the next like six years, Belichick is be taken
- 15:25Speaker 6: credit for those.
- 15:25Speaker 5: Two, right.
- 15:29Speaker 3: If they're winning, and then just.
- 15:31Speaker 6: Assuming that he did leave after he got the fifteen wins,
- 15:34Speaker 6: and then like you know, bo Nicks and Peyton end
- 15:36Speaker 6: up winning like say three or four super Bowls, Like
- 15:38Speaker 6: there's no telling how many wins Belichick would have taken
- 15:41Speaker 6: credit for.
- 15:42Speaker 5: Changes all right, So so that's that's that came out.
- 15:46Speaker 6: All right, that's about it. But that's a it's a
- 15:48Speaker 6: really long piece. If you're you're sort of into like
- 15:53Speaker 6: maybe some of the behind the scenes stuff, it's really interesting, Yeah,
- 15:56Speaker 6: just about how much detail goes into it.
- 15:58Speaker 5: Speaking of behind the scenes, it will be episode two
- 16:01Speaker 5: of Forge and Foxborough coming out soon. I can tell
- 16:05Speaker 5: you that it'll be coming out before training camp, so
- 16:08Speaker 5: that'll be episode two, so look forward to that.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Can you tease what this one? Kind of well, I mean.
- 16:13Speaker 5: It's everything episode one left off, like you know, I
- 16:17Speaker 5: think it left off at the draft, So everything that's
- 16:20Speaker 5: happened since then, off season Yeah, cool, yep, So you know,
- 16:24Speaker 5: obviously A J. Brown coming to the team a lot.
- 16:27Speaker 5: What has happened since then? Yeah, you know.
- 16:29Speaker 6: I actually I saw a video yesterday of A J.
- 16:32Speaker 7: Brown's reaction to when Saquon Barkley did like I know,
- 16:35Speaker 7: I'd always seen Saquon Barkley do the reverse jump over
- 16:37Speaker 7: the guy, but they showed a clip of like an
- 16:39Speaker 7: ISO cam on AJ Brown watching it happen, just like
- 16:42Speaker 7: putting his hands up, like shaking his head like it
- 16:44Speaker 7: was it was a good shot at him. But I'm
- 16:46Speaker 7: so excited to see that guy.
- 16:48Speaker 5: What was it more incredible play that or the Odell
- 16:52Speaker 5: Beckham Beckham Beckham one Beckham.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that was great.
- 16:56Speaker 5: I feel like Saquon was just kind of in the
- 16:58Speaker 5: blender and he's just like, I don't know when he
- 17:00Speaker 5: jumped up.
- 17:00Speaker 6: You know, there's a million one handy catches, but you
- 17:05Speaker 6: could go back and look at where he caught that ball.
- 17:08Speaker 6: I don't think you see a lot of a lot
- 17:09Speaker 6: of catches like that. Yeah, Like it's one thing to
- 17:12Speaker 6: go up and catch the ball like it's like this,
- 17:14Speaker 6: you got one handed. The ball was behind him and
- 17:16Speaker 6: he caught like the like he basically caught the ball
- 17:19Speaker 6: with like three fingers.
- 17:21Speaker 5: It's really I mean almost lying on his back in
- 17:24Speaker 5: the air.
- 17:25Speaker 6: It was an amazing catch.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Yeah. On the Giants. So maybe we'll see some more
- 17:28Speaker 5: of that stuff.
- 17:29Speaker 6: And Barkway ended up getting other extra sport jumping back.
- 17:33Speaker 5: The red Socks have rebounded. I'm proud of them. Yeah.
- 17:36Speaker 5: So they're digging their way out.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Yeah, digging their way I think exactly.
- 17:41Speaker 5: They're only eight games below five hundred.
- 17:43Speaker 6: They are eight games below five hundred. Imagine being red
- 17:46Speaker 6: hot and being eight games below five They were fourteen. Yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 6: I know, you know, a couple of weeks when they
- 17:51Speaker 6: so when they go back to that, they're not going
- 17:54Speaker 6: to That's how far out they.
- 17:55Speaker 5: Are eating out.
- 17:55Speaker 7: What's been the formula for Fred? You've been even watching
- 17:57Speaker 7: all these games? What have they been doing opponents?
- 17:59Speaker 5: I think no, I think you know. Contreras is hot
- 18:02Speaker 5: as heck. Caleb Durbin finally found out how to hit.
- 18:05Speaker 5: I think that's up to two twenty. No, but he
- 18:08Speaker 5: was at the time two times. It's huge what he's doing.
- 18:13Speaker 5: And he's hitting for power, which is really good. So
- 18:19Speaker 5: and the pitching is the pitching.
- 18:20Speaker 6: I'm I'm very excited to play the Angels three times.
- 18:23Speaker 5: I'm excited. They're the bottom of the barrel line. We're backup,
- 18:27Speaker 5: Chicago White Sox coming up, and then the Mets, so
- 18:31Speaker 5: this makes them hey.
- 18:32Speaker 6: So after the White Sox, then they'll have the chance
- 18:34Speaker 6: to make some hay against another terrible team in the Mets,
- 18:37Speaker 6: and who knows, maybe they'll get to be six games
- 18:39Speaker 6: on your five hundred.
- 18:40Speaker 5: I mean, the Red Sox supposed to be terrible too,
- 18:42Speaker 5: but it seems like they're beating these teams, so that's good.
- 18:44Speaker 6: The three teams that are worse than them they beat Listen.
- 18:49Speaker 5: For a while, the Red Sox had the worst record
- 18:51Speaker 5: in baseball.
- 18:52Speaker 6: No they didn't, Yes they did, but not worse than
- 18:54Speaker 6: Colorado when they lost two out of three to them.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Listen, Red Sox, you keep doing what you're doing, don't
- 19:00Speaker 5: over here. You keep doing what you doing.
- 19:05Speaker 6: I would just say, I agree, Just keep doing what
- 19:08Speaker 6: you're doing. Maybe at some point the owner will either
- 19:10Speaker 6: sell or start spending money again. Just keep doing what
- 19:13Speaker 6: you're doing.
- 19:14Speaker 7: The definitely Also some other news, Alex and I were talking.
- 19:17Speaker 7: The Fleet are moving to b U. They're gonna move
- 19:19Speaker 7: to Aghanis Arena here, the Fleet, the Boston Fleet, ore
- 19:21Speaker 7: p w h L team.
- 19:23Speaker 6: Uh I was talking about. I'm like, I go to
- 19:26Speaker 6: that weird move. Yeah, oh you know, like, you know,
- 19:28Speaker 6: I think it's way better going sell out. You though,
- 19:32Speaker 6: he was going into Boston.
- 19:36Speaker 5: And they sold out.
- 19:37Speaker 6: They've sold that place out a couple of times twice,
- 19:39Speaker 6: and it's but it's a one off. It's just like
- 19:42Speaker 6: the w n B A sold out. I'll take myself
- 19:45Speaker 6: as somebody who wasn't willing.
- 19:47Speaker 5: To go to.
- 19:49Speaker 8: You know, takes taking the girls to the games in Boston.
- 19:52Speaker 8: Now because I agree with that.
- 19:55Speaker 6: That's exactly what I'm saying. It's a tough place for
- 19:57Speaker 6: the Wellesley dad to get to.
- 19:59Speaker 5: Well so you kidding me. You jump on the sea line,
- 20:01Speaker 5: you be lined.
- 20:02Speaker 6: We parents don't jump on the sea lion. I'm just
- 20:06Speaker 6: telling you. I used to coach there.
- 20:07Speaker 5: They don't after they don't want to.
- 20:12Speaker 6: But at least you get any But at least you
- 20:14Speaker 6: get for a Wellesley person, yes, but for the north
- 20:16Speaker 6: Shore people that was convenient for them.
- 20:19Speaker 5: I'm gonna go to one of their guess, yeah, I
- 20:22Speaker 5: got Arenas.
- 20:23Speaker 6: I mean again As Arena is beautiful. It's way nicer
- 20:26Speaker 6: than but I'm a big fan of That's probably the
- 20:29Speaker 6: best thing about bu Is Againist Arena. Yeah, it's hard
- 20:33Speaker 6: for me to say the other one. That one dump
- 20:36Speaker 6: Walter Brown play there a lot.
- 20:40Speaker 5: So okay, so the local news. But I guess you know,
- 20:46Speaker 5: we do need to talk about a huge trade, Jalen
- 20:50Speaker 5: Brown being the we need.
- 20:53Speaker 6: To talk about.
- 20:54Speaker 3: He needs to talk about it because he prophesied it.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I ago the season started like last year, that by
- 21:00Speaker 5: the end of the season.
- 21:02Speaker 3: Or you know, the off season. You said by the
- 21:05Speaker 3: end of the off season, by the.
- 21:06Speaker 5: End of the off season, both Jays would not be
- 21:08Speaker 5: on the team. And I wasn't ruling out Jason Tatum
- 21:11Speaker 5: getting traded, but I said one of them would not
- 21:14Speaker 5: be on the team, and it just but I think
- 21:20Speaker 5: they screwed it up.
- 21:21Speaker 6: What'd you think of what Stevens and the and Chisholm
- 21:24Speaker 6: had to say yesterday?
- 21:25Speaker 5: You know, I wasn't impressed with what Stevens said. I
- 21:30Speaker 5: think he was kind of flustered a little bit.
- 21:32Speaker 6: And you don't like the optionality?
- 21:35Speaker 5: Yeah, just say flexibility or we have options? Why do
- 21:39Speaker 5: you have to make up a word? Anyway? However, I'm
- 21:42Speaker 5: probably going to go against the grain here. I did
- 21:45Speaker 5: like what Chisholm said because I think Chisholm addressed it
- 21:49Speaker 5: directly and he basically challenged everybody to come back at
- 21:55Speaker 5: him someday because he said, we'll show you that it's
- 21:58Speaker 5: not about money. He said those words, We're going to
- 22:01Speaker 5: show you by what we do that it wasn't about
- 22:04Speaker 5: the money. So you know, you either have you know,
- 22:09Speaker 5: really a lot of balls to say that if it's
- 22:12Speaker 5: not true.
- 22:13Speaker 6: Wows messy just stopped on a PK wow oh wow.
- 22:17Speaker 5: But I think that, you know, he he put his
- 22:21Speaker 5: gloves down and said, we're going to show you that
- 22:24Speaker 5: it wasn't about the money.
- 22:25Speaker 8: So he's taking some of the hardest heat right now
- 22:28Speaker 8: because now it's creating the whole. This is what happens
- 22:30Speaker 8: when you let private equity. It's sports, and he couldn't
- 22:33Speaker 8: afford the team to begin with, like we should have known.
- 22:36Speaker 5: But so he's basically laid down the gauntlet or laid
- 22:39Speaker 5: down the whatever. And now he's he's on records saying
- 22:44Speaker 5: it wasn't about the money. So now we've got to
- 22:47Speaker 5: hold him to that.
- 22:49Speaker 7: What do you think with the time, Like I feel
- 22:51Speaker 7: like I have Obviously you guys know I'm not like
- 22:53Speaker 7: in deep like you guys are with this, but I
- 22:54Speaker 7: have enough of a knowledge and we talk a lot
- 22:56Speaker 7: about it with and you talk about like the Jaylen
- 22:58Speaker 7: Brown thing with this is my favorite year this year.
- 23:00Speaker 7: I mean, this was his time to shine this year
- 23:02Speaker 7: with Tatum out, And do you think that that's what
- 23:05Speaker 7: brought all this.
- 23:05Speaker 6: To a head because you guys have talked about him
- 23:07Speaker 6: in the past being I can I could just give
- 23:10Speaker 6: you my view doesn't mean it's the right view. It's
- 23:12Speaker 6: kind of like when we talk about world Cup Soccer.
- 23:14Speaker 6: I'm by no means an expert on all this stuff,
- 23:16Speaker 6: but like I would just look at it and say,
- 23:18Speaker 6: I understand when they say it wasn't about money, and
- 23:21Speaker 6: I think technically by the but the definitions of those
- 23:24Speaker 6: it really wasn't. But but it is in my view
- 23:29Speaker 6: because they don't feel like he is worth that money
- 23:32Speaker 6: and the league doesn't either.
- 23:34Speaker 8: Yeah, Like that's the biggest telling thing is that's what
- 23:37Speaker 8: I said about the trade. But it's like, doesn't it
- 23:39Speaker 8: say more to you about how the league views Jalen
- 23:41Speaker 8: as an asset.
- 23:42Speaker 5: If he had a reasonable contract, I think teams would
- 23:44Speaker 5: be lining up to.
- 23:45Speaker 3: Teams jumping to sign.
- 23:47Speaker 5: He didn't want to take on his contract.
- 23:49Speaker 6: And he also because of ure, and I think people
- 23:54Speaker 6: just look at him as And I'm not a big
- 23:56Speaker 6: fan of the analytics and all that stuff that you
- 23:59Speaker 6: can throw out the wind. Like I didn't hear anybody
- 24:01Speaker 6: talking about that during the course of the season when
- 24:03Speaker 6: he was having a, you know, the best year of
- 24:05Speaker 6: his career and he was an All NBA player and
- 24:07Speaker 6: finished sixth the MVP voting. I didn't hear anybody say
- 24:10Speaker 6: that he's the sixth the seventh best player on an
- 24:12Speaker 6: NBA roster analytics wise, like, that's to me nothing but
- 24:17Speaker 6: sour grapes after the fact. But they didn't want to
- 24:20Speaker 6: give him that contract in the first place. They did
- 24:23Speaker 6: because they've kind of had to, and then they did,
- 24:26Speaker 6: and they looked at it as saying, this is untenable.
- 24:29Speaker 6: He's not worth that. In addition to you a point, Fred,
- 24:33Speaker 6: he's not going to be why because I don't think
- 24:37Speaker 6: he's that good of a player. I don't think Tatum's
- 24:39Speaker 6: worth it either, to be honest with you, and I
- 24:41Speaker 6: think Tatum's better than him.
- 24:42Speaker 5: But that's big.
- 24:43Speaker 6: I think there's like two guys like I would give
- 24:45Speaker 6: one beyond of that contract, like I would give Jokic
- 24:49Speaker 6: that contract. I don't think there's that many guys that
- 24:51Speaker 6: are truly worth that. But in that league, it's tough
- 24:55Speaker 6: and I and I'm kind of hypocritical because I always say, well,
- 24:57Speaker 6: you're worth what the market says you're worth, and there's
- 25:00Speaker 6: a lot of MAX contracts in the league.
- 25:02Speaker 5: But I thought, once you get i don't know, you know,
- 25:05Speaker 5: voted to the All NBA team, you're eligible for that
- 25:09Speaker 5: contract or something like that.
- 25:10Speaker 6: Did Wasn't that how it worked? But bad was before
- 25:13Speaker 6: he he got the MAX contract.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Before that, Jalen Brown, Yeah, what'd you feel like? Steve
- 25:20Speaker 5: Tatum the.
- 25:21Speaker 6: One that I don't I don't think he I just
- 25:26Speaker 6: Alex's gonna get mad at me. No, not, I just
- 25:29Speaker 6: I don't think those guys are I don't think those
- 25:31Speaker 6: guys are about winning the way some other guys.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I'm not where Evan is with this trade.
- 25:36Speaker 8: Like I don't think I didn't love trading for Giannis
- 25:41Speaker 8: because I thought he's old, he's injury prone. Like I
- 25:45Speaker 8: kind of resent that we even got involved with that
- 25:47Speaker 8: in the first place, because maybe this fallout wouldn't have
- 25:50Speaker 8: been so bad, they wouldn't have felt like they had
- 25:51Speaker 8: to trade him. But like even before that was a rumor,
- 25:55Speaker 8: just the way Jalen has been moving in the off
- 25:57Speaker 8: season off the court, the things he'd been saying, Like
- 26:01Speaker 8: you read into that stuff, and I.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Think he purposely.
- 26:05Speaker 8: He's very particular about how he phrases things, the moves
- 26:08Speaker 8: he makes everything reading in between the lines to me,
- 26:11Speaker 8: told me he wanted to get out of here and
- 26:13Speaker 8: be the star on a team, and he doesn't care
- 26:15Speaker 8: about winning more championships. With Tatum in Boston, and he
- 26:18Speaker 8: can say whatever he wants, like direct to camera. But
- 26:22Speaker 8: when his mentor his closest mentor is coming out on
- 26:25Speaker 8: podcast saying he wants to be the guy he feels
- 26:28Speaker 8: like he's not respected enough there this and that he
- 26:33Speaker 8: didn't really want to be here, that tells me that
- 26:35Speaker 8: something was going on off the field in private conversations
- 26:38Speaker 8: with Brad Steel. I think Brad Stevens, Jason Tatum, bil
- 26:42Speaker 8: Chisholm could have flown Jalen to Nantucket or whatever, or
- 26:46Speaker 8: gone to some steakhouse. They could have sat down, had
- 26:49Speaker 8: a dinner and they could have writed this after the
- 26:51Speaker 8: Yannis trade fell through.
- 26:52Speaker 5: Don't you think it's interesting though, that in Jalen Brown's
- 26:56Speaker 5: most recent Whatever it Is podcast basically took the blame
- 27:02Speaker 5: away from Brad Stevens. He said that Brad he doesn't
- 27:05Speaker 5: he doesn't think Brad really knew all of this, and
- 27:10Speaker 5: you know, you know, he didn't say it, but I
- 27:12Speaker 5: think he was putting a lot of this on the owner.
- 27:14Speaker 3: I agree with that. I don't think I think that
- 27:16Speaker 3: it's tough. That was your coach too.
- 27:18Speaker 8: Before he was your general manager, he was your coach.
- 27:20Speaker 8: I think they have a really great interpersonal relationship.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Don't you think that that's not that much. I don't
- 27:27Speaker 5: know that.
- 27:28Speaker 3: I don't think they know.
- 27:30Speaker 6: I think the other guy doesn't. I don't think they
- 27:32Speaker 6: pay him that money.
- 27:33Speaker 5: Okay, that's fine.
- 27:35Speaker 8: Yeah, And frankly, like Chisholm is not as rich as
- 27:40Speaker 8: people think he is. Like he's obviously way richer than
- 27:44Speaker 8: we could ever imagine, but.
- 27:45Speaker 3: In terms of owning an NBA team, like looking.
- 27:48Speaker 8: At his portfolio on his hedge fund or whatever his
- 27:51Speaker 8: private equity company, like, I don't know, Like the guy
- 27:55Speaker 8: is not the sea, like the guy from the Citadel
- 27:58Speaker 8: down in Florida. You know, he's not he like bank
- 28:02Speaker 8: everything he is worth is tied up in the Celtics essentially.
- 28:06Speaker 7: But how much is it the player that you don't
- 28:08Speaker 7: think he's worth the money versus the power of friendship?
- 28:10Speaker 7: And we feel like this guy is kind of pulling
- 28:12Speaker 7: in his own direction a little bit, and we need
- 28:15Speaker 7: to resell.
- 28:15Speaker 6: I think everything now it's said. I think this is
- 28:18Speaker 6: truth in everything Alex analyzed. I think it in it
- 28:21Speaker 6: all like hard does to say that's the reason why
- 28:25Speaker 6: they did this, it's all of these different things. I
- 28:28Speaker 6: agree with Alex. I don't think that Jaylen Brown wanted
- 28:30Speaker 6: to be there, but he's smart enough to not articulate that,
- 28:35Speaker 6: Like when he has these live twitch streams, he doesn't say,
- 28:39Speaker 6: he doesn't go all the way to that. But I
- 28:42Speaker 6: do think I think he's probably upset right now, not
- 28:45Speaker 6: because he got traded, but because he got traded to
- 28:47Speaker 6: a place where he's not the man. Still he's still
- 28:51Speaker 6: that might as matter of fact, he may have gone
- 28:54Speaker 6: down wrong.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Not the guy.
- 28:58Speaker 6: He might be three on the ladder now on you know,
- 29:00Speaker 6: if Embiide is healthy and motivated, but he's certainly behind
- 29:05Speaker 6: Maxi in that hierarchy.
- 29:06Speaker 5: But there's no doubt that the seventy six has got better.
- 29:09Speaker 6: Yeah oh yeah, you trade Paul George for Jalen Brown.
- 29:12Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
- 29:13Speaker 6: I mean at the very least, you're you got five years,
- 29:15Speaker 6: six years younger.
- 29:16Speaker 5: But it also makes me laugh because Brad Stevens was like,
- 29:19Speaker 5: you know, in our eyes, this wasn't a player for
- 29:21Speaker 5: player move. You know, in the seventy six's mine, it
- 29:25Speaker 5: was the seventy six's mind. They're like, we just got
- 29:28Speaker 5: Jalen Brown for an old poor Paul George. Yeah right,
- 29:31Speaker 5: they're thinking of it that way.
- 29:32Speaker 6: And a lot of people felt like the Paul George
- 29:34Speaker 6: contract was the worst in the NBA.
- 29:37Speaker 3: Isn't it expiring soon?
- 29:38Speaker 6: Though he's got two years, He's got a player ars
- 29:41Speaker 6: the second year, But like, if you're Paul Georgie, you're
- 29:44Speaker 6: gonna I'm gonna I fear that I picked that up.
- 29:47Speaker 6: He's not going to get that in his next contract.
- 29:50Speaker 6: But he's still a good player.
- 29:52Speaker 8: He's his game is beautiful to me. Like, I know
- 29:55Speaker 8: he's old and I know, but I think people are
- 29:57Speaker 8: forgetting how good he is. And they're just heard about
- 30:00Speaker 8: Jalen obviously, But I don't know. I I don't know
- 30:04Speaker 8: how they get out of that mess that they were in.
- 30:07Speaker 8: But I just some Celtics fans are acting like the
- 30:10Speaker 8: world's burning down and just like.
- 30:13Speaker 3: Waited out see what happened.
- 30:14Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 30:16Speaker 3: I Brad Stevens probably more than I think anyone in
- 30:20Speaker 3: this town.
- 30:20Speaker 5: I think he's a smart guy.
- 30:22Speaker 6: But I do think it's a bad I like Paul
- 30:24Speaker 6: George five years ago. Yeah, like everything you said.
- 30:26Speaker 8: About poultry, and if they didn't, if they wanted they
- 30:30Speaker 8: had Celtic, they should have either made that trade or
- 30:33Speaker 8: never even put their hat in the rink and said,
- 30:35Speaker 8: we want nothing to do with this.
- 30:36Speaker 5: I think Brad is a smart guy, but I think
- 30:39Speaker 5: he was in a corner and I think he had
- 30:43Speaker 5: to do this move, that this was the best offer
- 30:46Speaker 5: they had and they had to make the.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Trade value.
- 30:51Speaker 5: It was what it was.
- 30:52Speaker 8: I just try to gaslate ourselves into thinking, yeah, that's fair.
- 30:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, I think I'm a little surprised that
- 31:01Speaker 6: I thought you thought you'd be mad at me for
- 31:02Speaker 6: being disrespectful to Jalen Brown.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Brown. I think he's a terrific player guy.
- 31:08Speaker 8: I think he puts so much work into his game
- 31:11Speaker 8: to get it to where he was because he was
- 31:13Speaker 8: so so raw and athletic when he came into the league.
- 31:16Speaker 3: That the player he turned into I can't even believe it.
- 31:19Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, like for.
- 31:21Speaker 8: As smart as he is an intelligence the basketball, I
- 31:25Speaker 8: Q sometimes I was just like, what are you doing?
- 31:28Speaker 6: And then you know, and one of the criticism, one
- 31:31Speaker 6: of the criticisms, and.
- 31:32Speaker 8: Everyone's saying he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room,
- 31:34Speaker 8: and I think that I don't know if that's fair,
- 31:37Speaker 8: but with everything that comes out watching the way he moves,
- 31:40Speaker 8: he went to cow like maybe if there's smoke, there's
- 31:44Speaker 8: fire with.
- 31:44Speaker 9: That, you know.
- 31:45Speaker 6: So and to that point, like a lot of people
- 31:48Speaker 6: like talking about the off off court stuff, like he's
- 31:51Speaker 6: too active in the community, he's too outspoken.
- 31:54Speaker 3: I don't think I'm doing all that stuff. Those things
- 31:56Speaker 3: don't have anything to do with planning an event.
- 31:59Speaker 6: So such love to the fact that he was active
- 32:01Speaker 6: in Boston. He did so much in the community, and
- 32:03Speaker 6: so did a lot of people in Boston.
- 32:05Speaker 3: Myself posted a tribute to him.
- 32:08Speaker 5: You know.
- 32:09Speaker 6: But it's what you just said, Like sometimes you watched
- 32:12Speaker 6: him play and you'd be like, what are we doing?
- 32:14Speaker 6: They did too, And the whole smartest guy, the smartest
- 32:19Speaker 6: guy in the room thing wasn't. Oh he's a really
- 32:21Speaker 6: bright guy. He's really socially aware and he's that's not
- 32:26Speaker 6: the stuff that people criticized. They criticized because they would
- 32:30Speaker 6: have a game plan in a game that he didn't
- 32:31Speaker 6: agree with, and he wouldn't execute it. He would do
- 32:35Speaker 6: his own thing. And that's what Alex is talking.
- 32:37Speaker 5: About in the moment. He doesn't show good basketball IQ.
- 32:42Speaker 6: Because he thinks that he has the better way to
- 32:44Speaker 6: do it.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Well, I'm talking about bad passing and things like that
- 32:47Speaker 5: because he.
- 32:47Speaker 6: Doesn't want to take a pointer. And I'm not saying
- 32:50Speaker 6: he's wrong, but at some point, when you're the player,
- 32:53Speaker 6: the coach is the coach. I don't think a whole
- 32:55Speaker 6: lot of Joe Missoula's exits and knows either. I don't
- 32:58Speaker 6: think it takes much exits and no, you just say
- 33:00Speaker 6: we're going to try to create two on ones and
- 33:01Speaker 6: get an open three and fifty five times a game.
- 33:04Speaker 6: I don't think that takes anything to do that.
- 33:06Speaker 5: Dribbling off your knee. He just he has flaws in
- 33:10Speaker 5: his game.
- 33:10Speaker 3: He does he does, and we loved him and we
- 33:14Speaker 3: looked past he was our guy.
- 33:16Speaker 5: But for a while there was a time where I
- 33:17Speaker 5: said he might be the better of the two. Early
- 33:20Speaker 5: I thought, but now when.
- 33:23Speaker 8: That year he just had improved, He was improving so
- 33:25Speaker 8: so much throughout that off season and over the course
- 33:28Speaker 8: of the season, I was like, Damn, does he care
- 33:30Speaker 8: more than Jason?
- 33:31Speaker 3: Maybe shoo.
- 33:32Speaker 6: I think there's an argument for that. There's an argument
- 33:34Speaker 6: that we made that he.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Does care more, far more talented, far more talented.
- 33:39Speaker 6: All Right, So I'm upset. I thought I was just
- 33:42Speaker 6: gonna yell at men, I agree with everything else to say.
- 33:44Speaker 5: So that was that was big news locally. This game
- 33:48Speaker 5: last night, somebody compared it to the Patriots Super Bowl
- 33:52Speaker 5: against the Seahawks this year, and it was kind of
- 33:56Speaker 5: a close similarity. I thought, Huh, I weigh it unfolded,
- 34:02Speaker 5: like you come in with high hopes and all of that,
- 34:04Speaker 5: and you just weren't ready for the opponent that.
- 34:11Speaker 7: You guys watched. I mean I watched it, but you
- 34:13Speaker 7: guys have watched more. I mean, were they not ready
- 34:15Speaker 7: or were they just.
- 34:20Speaker 5: The I really thought that there were. To me, I
- 34:24Speaker 5: saw signs of explosiveness from the US team, like there
- 34:29Speaker 5: were chances that they just couldn't finish, and I thought
- 34:33Speaker 5: they were the more explosive team, but they were also
- 34:35Speaker 5: the team that made more mistakes, and at that level,
- 34:39Speaker 5: you can't make mistakes. And it was almost like, you know,
- 34:44Speaker 5: the Belgium team was the Patriots of old, where we're
- 34:46Speaker 5: not going to beat ourselves, We're gonna wait for you
- 34:49Speaker 5: to beat you. And that's what happened. And every time,
- 34:52Speaker 5: not every time, but when the US made some of
- 34:55Speaker 5: their mistakes, Belgium was right there to take advantage of it.
- 34:58Speaker 5: And that was.
- 35:01Speaker 6: There Belgium.
- 35:03Speaker 7: I mean even when the US scored and had a
- 35:05Speaker 7: sign of life and then it was like what instantly
- 35:08Speaker 7: he came back.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Those days and that goal where they tied it back up.
- 35:14Speaker 8: I know, everyone's like on the goalie for when he
- 35:17Speaker 8: came out of the box and kind of whiffed on
- 35:19Speaker 8: what footing it out of there, and that sucks, you know,
- 35:23Speaker 8: like that's terrible. Like I still think he did the
- 35:25Speaker 8: right thing coming out. He just needed to make the
- 35:29Speaker 8: goal he let up right before that, the tying or
- 35:32Speaker 8: the was it the going for Belgium, the wing the header.
- 35:37Speaker 8: It got crossed from the very very corner, and the
- 35:42Speaker 8: goalie stayed on his line at his near posts from
- 35:45Speaker 8: where the cross was coming from, and the ball at
- 35:48Speaker 8: eye level was crossed right directly in front of his face,
- 35:51Speaker 8: and instead of coming out and blocking that angle and
- 35:54Speaker 8: punching it out, pulling it down, making a play on
- 35:58Speaker 8: the ball, he watched it go right across his face
- 36:01Speaker 8: and he stayed on his line. He didn't make any
- 36:03Speaker 8: play on it, and he watched the guy headed in
- 36:06Speaker 8: because he was flat footed, and he didn't come out
- 36:08Speaker 8: and try to block an angle once And I had
- 36:11Speaker 8: just gone from watching Spain and Portugal, where like Diego
- 36:14Speaker 8: Costa is standing on his head, so to speak. So
- 36:17Speaker 8: Douce understands this reference. You have to come out as
- 36:22Speaker 8: a goaltender, you have to block angles, you have to
- 36:25Speaker 8: punch stuff out of there, you know what I mean.
- 36:27Speaker 3: And I just was like, Matt Turner must be like
- 36:31Speaker 3: wanting to die on that.
- 36:33Speaker 6: I would say, I would defer to you, Freddie, You've
- 36:35Speaker 6: watched millions of more soccer games than I do. I
- 36:38Speaker 6: didn't see what you saw about the explosiveness. I thought
- 36:40Speaker 6: that the US and no first time basically in the
- 36:43Speaker 6: first the entire firsts was Belgium. They kept having the
- 36:49Speaker 6: goalie just kick it three quarters at lanth of the field,
- 36:52Speaker 6: and the Belgian strikers or whatever you call the attackers
- 36:56Speaker 6: were taking the ball away from the defenders, especially that
- 37:00Speaker 6: which he's the captain all due respect, I mean obviously
- 37:05Speaker 6: had a great career. He's thirty eight years old. He
- 37:07Speaker 6: was terrible in that game. He's the one that got
- 37:09Speaker 6: out muscled on the header that you were talking about. Alex.
- 37:12Speaker 6: I think he was partially involved in the misplay with
- 37:15Speaker 6: the goalie and the third goal that to me ultimately
- 37:18Speaker 6: ended it, but I thought Belgium easily could have had four.
- 37:21Speaker 6: The goalie made a tremendous save in like the first
- 37:23Speaker 6: two minutes of the game. Yeah, Belgium had a lot
- 37:26Speaker 6: or really good chances to score in the first half
- 37:29Speaker 6: and the second half. Yeah, and the one goal that
- 37:31Speaker 6: they got was I mean, it was a tremendous like deflection.
- 37:35Speaker 6: It went off of like belgium guy's head and completely
- 37:38Speaker 6: changed directions. That's why they scored. That was the only
- 37:41Speaker 6: chance they had the whole game. And then the first
- 37:44Speaker 6: ten minutes or so of the second half, I thought
- 37:47Speaker 6: us looked like they figured it out. They started to
- 37:49Speaker 6: move it around, they had possession, looked like Belgium was
- 37:53Speaker 6: on the heels a little bit, and then that play
- 37:55Speaker 6: happened and that was game. It was like Belgium just
- 37:57Speaker 6: said three to one, there's no way they get in too.
- 38:00Speaker 5: We're just going to keep.
- 38:01Speaker 6: Everything in the perimeter. I thought they defended really, really well.
- 38:05Speaker 6: They did a couple of times that they tried something
- 38:07Speaker 6: like no looks and you know, like the no touch
- 38:11Speaker 6: ball again, tried a couple of times and they were
- 38:15Speaker 6: just on it. They just kept taking the ball away
- 38:17Speaker 6: and what did you say that the stat was, but Polisic.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Eleven times he had the ball taken away.
- 38:22Speaker 3: From because you would watch him.
- 38:25Speaker 8: He would just dribble into two guys and try to
- 38:27Speaker 8: have this slick footwork. But like your footworks, it's not
- 38:31Speaker 8: going to happen. And you gotta saw and listen, you
- 38:36Speaker 8: got a pass to feet.
- 38:37Speaker 3: They're just.
- 38:40Speaker 5: Blistic is a little Polistic is a little guy. And
- 38:43Speaker 5: as much as we like to make fun of soccer
- 38:45Speaker 5: players for flopping and all that, because they do, they're
- 38:47Speaker 5: beating the crap out of each other. They are they
- 38:50Speaker 5: really hard.
- 38:51Speaker 6: Do you ever watch these replays and see how many
- 38:53Speaker 6: times a guy goes down and holds his knee that
- 38:55Speaker 6: he doesn't get touched because.
- 38:56Speaker 5: They're just showing that play. But I'm talking about all
- 38:58Speaker 5: the stuff that doesn't even get called that the ref
- 39:00Speaker 5: lets go. They're beating the crap out of each other,
- 39:04Speaker 5: and Polistic just gets the ball taken away from them.
- 39:08Speaker 6: You know, I'm with Alex. I think he tries to
- 39:10Speaker 6: do too much with that's much.
- 39:12Speaker 8: If they just made quick pass like they're passing in
- 39:15Speaker 8: their first touch is just what totally held them down
- 39:18Speaker 8: because they'd get across and they'd try to settle it,
- 39:21Speaker 8: but it gets too far away from them, and Belgium's
- 39:24Speaker 8: on it.
- 39:24Speaker 3: They were just pressing them the whole game, as are all.
- 39:28Speaker 6: I know, I can get locked on this game. I
- 39:30Speaker 6: mean this, he just made some.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Upset.
- 39:34Speaker 6: I would say, like, did you see a couple of
- 39:36Speaker 6: those times too in the first half? Like just the
- 39:38Speaker 6: skill and now I'm starting to understand to understand what
- 39:42Speaker 6: they're talking about. They would they would run these these
- 39:46Speaker 6: long like I said, the goalie would just do the
- 39:48Speaker 6: clear and then you know, sometimes they would win it.
- 39:51Speaker 6: Sometimes they wouldn't. But when they did actually win it,
- 39:53Speaker 6: they'd have it on one side and they would do
- 39:55Speaker 6: that that long cross. That number ten guy for Belgium,
- 39:59Speaker 6: like it was like he had bell crow on his
- 40:01Speaker 6: on his cleats.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Why you get what I'm saying now, No.
- 40:04Speaker 6: It was unbelievable how much more talented Belgium was than
- 40:08Speaker 6: the US. I was just blown away by how much
- 40:11Speaker 6: better they were.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Handle it.
- 40:15Speaker 5: But I find interesting id so, so here's a good
- 40:20Speaker 5: example of exactly what you're talking, Paul. There was a
- 40:23Speaker 5: game a few days ago. It was Argentina and Messi
- 40:27Speaker 5: was on a run long pass to him he takes
- 40:30Speaker 5: it down on his toe on the run and scores.
- 40:33Speaker 6: We had that exact mess saying and explained how hard
- 40:37Speaker 6: that is, and he didn't do it, and.
- 40:38Speaker 5: We couldn't do it. It was the exact same way position.
- 40:44Speaker 5: All he had to do was what MESSI did all
- 40:46Speaker 5: he had to do.
- 40:46Speaker 3: But we don't have we the US. There's there's not
- 40:51Speaker 3: yeah America in the game. Yeah, And I think that
- 40:56Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 40:58Speaker 8: That might take like years to get of training. But
- 41:02Speaker 8: it's just the passes too, Like that was the biggest issue.
- 41:04Speaker 8: It was the finesse and the ball skills and the
- 41:07Speaker 8: ability to just trap a ball and have it just
- 41:09Speaker 8: be at your feet and stop all of its momentum
- 41:12Speaker 8: and make a quick pass.
- 41:13Speaker 3: And they're making these passes but they're not to foot.
- 41:16Speaker 5: We don't call you trap them touches.
- 41:19Speaker 3: Touches. Well, no, you're trapping it.
- 41:21Speaker 5: You are trapped. But they don't use that. I hear
- 41:23Speaker 5: you know that was a great touch. They never say
- 41:26Speaker 5: trap anymore.
- 41:27Speaker 3: We don't have the great touch.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Played I played.
- 41:31Speaker 6: I played individual sports socker longer than I played football.
- 41:38Speaker 5: That's another like back in the day, like defense was
- 41:40Speaker 5: a full back in America, they don't call them full
- 41:42Speaker 5: backs and they call them like sweepers.
- 41:45Speaker 3: Well, the sweeper is a full back that's in the center.
- 41:49Speaker 5: You're yeah, you got sweeper vised. My sister is a sweeper.
- 41:52Speaker 6: My cousin was a sweep.
- 41:53Speaker 5: It's always like the boss right in the back.
- 41:56Speaker 8: You're kind of like the point guard, but your own
- 41:58Speaker 8: like it's very defensive minded and you don't shut the
- 42:01Speaker 8: whole up.
- 42:02Speaker 3: So that's probably why I was.
- 42:03Speaker 7: It's interesting hearing you talked tools, because we talked, you know,
- 42:06Speaker 7: a lot over the last month about like why is
- 42:08Speaker 7: the US behind? And it's interesting like you're pointing out
- 42:11Speaker 7: the flaws of like because you're pointing out sometimes where
- 42:13Speaker 7: it feels almost like coaching and just you know, being
- 42:15Speaker 7: on the same page, whereas other times you're saying like
- 42:17Speaker 7: skill stuff. And I think that's what like Paul and
- 42:20Speaker 7: I talking about this morning, that the most skilled athletes
- 42:23Speaker 7: you know were participating, they would be better.
- 42:25Speaker 5: So is it you know what I mean? Is it
- 42:26Speaker 5: seems like it's both.
- 42:27Speaker 6: I had that rant a couple of weeks ago. I'll
- 42:29Speaker 6: go to my grave thinking that that's the biggest difference
- 42:32Speaker 6: I think. But it seems like It's what I was
- 42:35Speaker 6: really struck by, alex Is watching the game last night,
- 42:37Speaker 6: because I watched the US games for the most part,
- 42:40Speaker 6: and I saw the difference last night between So this
- 42:44Speaker 6: was just entering the World Cup, the US was seventeenth
- 42:46Speaker 6: and the FIFA World Cup rankings or whatever you know,
- 42:49Speaker 6: and all of the teams they had played, the four
- 42:51Speaker 6: opponents they had played, I think the highest one was
- 42:54Speaker 6: like twenty two or twenty three, yeah, and that was
- 42:56Speaker 6: Turkey who they lost to, and all the rest of
- 42:58Speaker 6: them were like in the And I saw the difference
- 43:02Speaker 6: between the top ten team and a seventeen team last
- 43:04Speaker 6: night because I didn't realize Belgium was that good. But
- 43:07Speaker 6: there was no comparison with the skill level, just the act.
- 43:10Speaker 6: The actual ability is skill, the creativity to the two
- 43:13Speaker 6: guys they brought in in the you guys Lucacko's allegend,
- 43:17Speaker 6: I don't let me tell you.
- 43:19Speaker 9: I don't know these.
- 43:22Speaker 3: The dominant game.
- 43:23Speaker 5: I knew they were going to it. I got a
- 43:25Speaker 5: bad case of a conco by the end of the game.
- 43:27Speaker 3: I just I knew where it was headed. The US,
- 43:29Speaker 3: like you could see it kind of giving up.
- 43:31Speaker 8: I was like, hell yeah, Lukaku, I'm glad to see
- 43:33Speaker 8: you come in and get another goal.
- 43:35Speaker 5: I could believe there was a guy who got injured.
- 43:36Speaker 5: He left the game, and he actually was injured.
- 43:38Speaker 6: He didn't return with DonJoy on his knee.
- 43:41Speaker 5: We talk about the coaching, but you don't get that
- 43:44Speaker 5: skill unless you have a ball at your foot every
- 43:47Speaker 5: day and the life.
- 43:48Speaker 3: I told you guys about the pick up as a ball,
- 43:51Speaker 3: because it's all time.
- 43:52Speaker 8: The ball handling skills and the creativity you get from
- 43:56Speaker 8: playing pick up with your friends with no rules, where
- 43:59Speaker 8: you're messing around and it's unstructured, is so pivotal. And honestly,
- 44:04Speaker 8: my whole Twitter feed yesterday was half of half my
- 44:08Speaker 8: Twitter feed was brazil fans talking about the downfall of
- 44:11Speaker 8: Brazilian soccer is because the kids aren't playing in the
- 44:14Speaker 8: favelas anymore.
- 44:15Speaker 3: And I don't know how much truth there.
- 44:16Speaker 7: Is to that could be the hood Yeah, okay, it's Brazilian,
- 44:22Speaker 7: but it sounds a lot like basketball cardboard. But that's
- 44:25Speaker 7: that's to me in this country, that's basketball. Those are
- 44:28Speaker 7: you know, kids who all you need is a hoop
- 44:30Speaker 7: and a ball and they get together and you know
- 44:32Speaker 7: what I mean, that's it happens again after after.
- 44:35Speaker 6: It's just like the Jalen Brown thing. There's probably six, seven,
- 44:38Speaker 6: eight different things, and everybody tries to simplify it into one.
- 44:42Speaker 6: My one is is that I just don't think you're
- 44:44Speaker 6: getting the best of the best to play.
- 44:47Speaker 5: But you could put the best athletes out there and
- 44:50Speaker 5: they won't be as good because to pick a ball
- 44:53Speaker 5: out of the air and head it toward the goal.
- 44:56Speaker 5: I don't care how good an athlete unless you've done
- 44:58Speaker 5: unless you've practiced that ten thousand.
- 45:00Speaker 6: Times, but you would do it ten thousand times. Everybody knows.
- 45:05Speaker 6: That's my point.
- 45:05Speaker 9: I know.
- 45:06Speaker 6: If you just took those guys and you said from
- 45:09Speaker 6: the day you're born, his his, all the three year
- 45:12Speaker 6: olds in the world, I mean in the US, oh sure,
- 45:15Speaker 6: and you will have you can if all of the
- 45:18Speaker 6: best ones say I'm going to play soccer because I
- 45:21Speaker 6: can do X, Y and Z playing soccer, then they
- 45:24Speaker 6: would go up with all of the stuff that Alex
- 45:26Speaker 6: is talking about in all of these games and all
- 45:28Speaker 6: of these programs, and you would and they would get
- 45:31Speaker 6: this technical ability that they that No, I'm not suggesting
- 45:35Speaker 6: that Lebron James today could go out in the soccer
- 45:38Speaker 6: field because he's one of the best athletes who's ever
- 45:40Speaker 6: walk the planet and be able to play with the
- 45:42Speaker 6: World Cup. No, you wouldn't. He never you know.
- 45:44Speaker 7: But if Lebron James since age of two had a
- 45:46Speaker 7: ball on his feet and yeah, maybe he wasn't quite
- 45:48Speaker 7: I think it's probably hard here six to seven.
- 45:50Speaker 6: No, but that's what I'm talking about, is Stefan Diggs
- 45:53Speaker 6: doing it at age two as opposed to well, geez,
- 45:56Speaker 6: just because he's a good wide receiver with great footwork
- 45:58Speaker 6: doesn't make my soccer players.
- 45:59Speaker 8: No soccer practice. You're not just working privately with your
- 46:02Speaker 8: trainer like you were in the backyard with your brother.
- 46:05Speaker 6: Think I played Division one college baseball.
- 46:08Speaker 5: Catch it your dad, dad playing youth soccer in manalap
- 46:12Speaker 5: in New Jersey, and our coach saying, those kids in Neptune,
- 46:17Speaker 5: New Jersey, they go to the store with a ball
- 46:19Speaker 5: at their feet. You have to have a ball at
- 46:22Speaker 5: your feet all day. I remember them telling us that,
- 46:25Speaker 5: And I guess Neptune, New Jersey at the time was
- 46:28Speaker 5: like the standard for youth soccer in New Jersey.
- 46:31Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I believe it.
- 46:33Speaker 7: It is interesting though, because I grew up in a town.
- 46:36Speaker 7: We always had a Memorial Day tournament in my in
- 46:38Speaker 7: town of Holliston. It was just like I would meet
- 46:39Speaker 7: random people like, oh, I played a Memorial Day. Like
- 46:42Speaker 7: soccer has always been around, like it's been a big deal.
- 46:45Speaker 7: Like my sisters both played. They were really good in
- 46:47Speaker 7: high school. But you know, it's just how do you
- 46:48Speaker 7: get to that next level because it's not like it's absent.
- 46:51Speaker 6: From the That's my point in a nutshell, It's like.
- 46:57Speaker 8: The elite guy women the best players, A lot of
- 46:59Speaker 8: the best players come from Massachusetts exact.
- 47:02Speaker 6: But the elite guy can play in a memorial tournament
- 47:05Speaker 6: when he's eight, and now if he's like an elite athlete,
- 47:09Speaker 6: now I have I can play in the NFL, the NBA,
- 47:12Speaker 6: or I can go to Europe and you know, like
- 47:14Speaker 6: age whatever. Like I heard the stuff about Harry Kane
- 47:17Speaker 6: today was like he was signed by Arsenal at six
- 47:20Speaker 6: and then they released him at nine, you know, developing,
- 47:23Speaker 6: you know, and like all of this stuff. You know,
- 47:27Speaker 6: I just think it's a hard sell for that guy
- 47:30Speaker 6: to say I can play in the NBA or I
- 47:33Speaker 6: can play in you know, Premier League soccer, and maybe.
- 47:37Speaker 8: That guy does want to go to the European club.
- 47:39Speaker 8: What's his mom saying, ten year old? What about to
- 47:43Speaker 8: go play with Sporting or Arsenal or they like, they.
- 47:46Speaker 6: Do do that in this country. In basketball they're in
- 47:50Speaker 6: all these AAU tournament, hockey, they leave their areas and
- 47:53Speaker 6: they go and play juniors and you know, like fourteen
- 47:57Speaker 6: years old, and it costs just the same amount of money.
- 48:02Speaker 6: It's an expensive endeavor if you want to do this,
- 48:04Speaker 6: if you want to play in these travel programs. In
- 48:06Speaker 6: all the sports, they say, like I saw someone today
- 48:09Speaker 6: was complaining, like until they break the youth sports system
- 48:12Speaker 6: in the US. The youth sports system is broken. It
- 48:14Speaker 6: has a problem the pay to play and all that stuff.
- 48:17Speaker 6: But it's the same in all the sports. It's not
- 48:19Speaker 6: a soccer problem, like it costs five thousand dollars to
- 48:22Speaker 6: play in this elite soccer program. It costs five thousand
- 48:25Speaker 6: dollars to do it in hockey too.
- 48:28Speaker 7: I was just thinking about it though, from the other
- 48:29Speaker 7: perspective of if I'm the NFL and I'm trying to
- 48:32Speaker 7: get those European kids who grew up with a soccer
- 48:34Speaker 7: ball on their feet into football, you know, how do
- 48:37Speaker 7: you reverse it as an NFL wants to expand the
- 48:40Speaker 7: international pathway, you know, playing games over there.
- 48:43Speaker 5: You know, it seems like they're trying to do it
- 48:44Speaker 5: the other way.
- 48:45Speaker 6: If you have a choice and you're growing up in
- 48:47Speaker 6: Italy or in Germany or in Spain, what are you doing.
- 48:51Speaker 6: You're playing soccer because that's your passion. That's the passion
- 48:56Speaker 6: in Europe, right.
- 48:57Speaker 8: It's like it's like Keida for the Celtics, grew wanting
- 49:00Speaker 8: to be a soccer player, worshiping the soccer players because
- 49:03Speaker 8: that's how it is in Portugal.
- 49:04Speaker 3: But then he obviously did not fit the frame.
- 49:06Speaker 8: So he's like, I guess I'll play basketball and look
- 49:09Speaker 8: at him now, you know, it's like, that's not the mentality.
- 49:12Speaker 5: And by doing that, that's the only way you can
- 49:15Speaker 5: take like a fifty yard pass and trap it with
- 49:18Speaker 5: your toe. O.
- 49:19Speaker 8: The way they do it, and what you're talking about
- 49:21Speaker 8: too is the exact that's the exact example I used
- 49:23Speaker 8: yesterday explaining it to someone was the Belgian keeper just
- 49:26Speaker 8: booted a punt and it was coming down but from
- 49:29Speaker 8: really really high up, and the Belgian defender just lifted
- 49:33Speaker 8: his knee up and caught it and brought it down
- 49:36Speaker 8: and the ball was stopped.
- 49:37Speaker 6: There was your guy. That was your guy that did that.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Ten.
- 49:40Speaker 6: No, the guy who came in in the second half
- 49:42Speaker 6: or ten probably did it.
- 49:44Speaker 8: Too because he was he was what I'm talking about.
- 49:46Speaker 8: I don't think was Lukaku, but it was someone else
- 49:49Speaker 8: and he did him too. He brought the ball down
- 49:51Speaker 8: from coming straight up in the air and it just stopped.
- 49:54Speaker 6: And it was at his I know exactly the player
- 49:56Speaker 6: talking about it unreal.
- 49:57Speaker 8: And if that was someone in the US, it would
- 50:00Speaker 8: have bounced, you know Newton's laws of physics. It would
- 50:03Speaker 8: have gone right back up with the exact force that
- 50:06Speaker 8: came down with and they wouldn't have been able to
- 50:07Speaker 8: settle it.
- 50:08Speaker 5: I remember playing soccer and you have that great trap
- 50:12Speaker 5: that just stopped. But those are like few and far between.
- 50:17Speaker 6: In the first half, exactly the way Alex just described
- 50:20Speaker 6: that was what I thought. The whole first half was
- 50:22Speaker 6: Belgium controlled the ball. The ball bounced off of the US, yeah, like,
- 50:27Speaker 6: and they couldn't quite put two passes together because the
- 50:30Speaker 6: ball would get away from them. And even the color analyst,
- 50:33Speaker 6: who I thought was excellent in the game last night,
- 50:35Speaker 6: the play by play guy was just openly rooting for
- 50:38Speaker 6: the US. It kind of bothered me, but the color guy.
- 50:41Speaker 6: Every time that the play by play guy would be
- 50:43Speaker 6: complaining about a foul, the color guy would explain why
- 50:45Speaker 6: it wasn't a foul.
- 50:46Speaker 5: Yeah, like polic injury. He kicked the guy's foot, can
- 50:51Speaker 5: I do? It's not a rant, but it's kind of
- 50:54Speaker 5: an observation. And I know the Sokker people are going
- 50:57Speaker 5: to jump all over me. Now, listen, I soccer, I
- 51:00Speaker 5: I understand, I understand the game about I mean, I'm
- 51:05Speaker 5: not talking about the game right now. I'm talking about
- 51:07Speaker 5: the game as from the perspective of a broadcast and
- 51:11Speaker 5: the perspective of viewing it. I watched in this World
- 51:15Speaker 5: Cup a lot of the pregame shows and a lot
- 51:18Speaker 5: of the postgame shows, and there's very little to analyze
- 51:21Speaker 5: with soccer. It's a very it's a beautiful sport when
- 51:24Speaker 5: it's played at this level, I'll give you that, but
- 51:26Speaker 5: it's a very simple sport and when it comes to
- 51:30Speaker 5: like x's and o's, there's not a lot to say.
- 51:32Speaker 5: So when you see these panels before the game, you know,
- 51:36Speaker 5: Schmichael and Lawless and all the others and even the
- 51:39Speaker 5: postgame shows. The analysis they give you is, oh, this
- 51:43Speaker 5: team needs to create more chances, this team needs to
- 51:46Speaker 5: press this. It's very general. There's there's not a lot
- 51:50Speaker 5: of you know, deep analytical stuff to talk about in
- 51:54Speaker 5: these pre and postgame shows, and I thought that was interesting.
- 51:57Speaker 6: I feel that way about hockey too, Like I mean,
- 51:59Speaker 6: we I do football. I love talking about football.
- 52:01Speaker 7: There's so much that goes into playbook and strategy, even
- 52:03Speaker 7: with you know, talking about the Celtics and their philosophy
- 52:06Speaker 7: of how they play.
- 52:06Speaker 5: But I think hockey and soccer are similar in that.
- 52:08Speaker 7: Way where it's a fluid sport and there's not really
- 52:11Speaker 7: it's unsifted momentum, a.
- 52:13Speaker 5: Lot of creativity. That's what I loved about, you know,
- 52:15Speaker 5: playing hockey.
- 52:15Speaker 7: Everyone gets to touch the puck, everybody you know gets
- 52:17Speaker 7: to participate, but it's not a lot in the ways
- 52:19Speaker 7: of breaking down plays and you know that kind of stuff.
- 52:22Speaker 6: Certainly, there are moments for all of that in this
- 52:24Speaker 6: but I agree with you.
- 52:25Speaker 7: It's I mean, I think that's what's kind of fun
- 52:27Speaker 7: to me about playing those sports is it's not so
- 52:30Speaker 7: rigid do this do that?
- 52:31Speaker 6: You know that kind of thing.
- 52:32Speaker 5: I mean, certainly you know, everyone has a position and
- 52:35Speaker 5: everyone has a role. I'm not saying that, you know,
- 52:37Speaker 5: you're just running around haphazardly. There is that, But once
- 52:41Speaker 5: the game is in action, yeah, you know, you know,
- 52:45Speaker 5: if the ball's here, I should be here. If this
- 52:47Speaker 5: guy's here, I'm supposed to be manning up with him. Okay,
- 52:51Speaker 5: but it doesn't get a lot deeper. There's like terrible
- 52:54Speaker 5: play calls coach doing.
- 52:56Speaker 6: It would largely agree, but I do think and I
- 52:57Speaker 6: was just watching again, you know, it goes ignorant Paul.
- 53:00Speaker 6: He watches a couple of World Cup matches. I'm not
- 53:03Speaker 6: trying it, but like I was watching Alex's game the
- 53:05Speaker 6: Spain Portugal one, and I thought they made a really
- 53:08Speaker 6: good point. Whoever the I don't know if it was
- 53:11Speaker 6: Landon Donovan was in the Ronaldo point that he was
- 53:15Speaker 6: making in Dark Yes, yes it was. It was that group,
- 53:20Speaker 6: and they were talking about how Spain was cheating up
- 53:24Speaker 6: because at forty one they no longer feared Ronaldo's ability
- 53:28Speaker 6: to get into the open grass and outrun them. They
- 53:32Speaker 6: were confident that they could cheat a little bit, knowing
- 53:34Speaker 6: they could recover right, and it was changing the way
- 53:38Speaker 6: the game was being played like I found you know,
- 53:40Speaker 6: again that might be the most sort of rudimentary, like
- 53:44Speaker 6: for some somebody who watches all these games all the time.
- 53:46Speaker 6: I was said, well, no kidding, Paul, you eat like
- 53:49Speaker 6: to me, I found it really interesting, like you could
- 53:52Speaker 6: see it as they would as the guy was talking
- 53:54Speaker 6: about it. You could actually see the impact of the.
- 54:00Speaker 8: Have all those numbers, and Spain was playing with a
- 54:03Speaker 8: heavy back set, so it's like it really condenses a
- 54:06Speaker 8: field for your midfielders and strikers and forwards, so it's
- 54:09Speaker 8: harder to moving.
- 54:10Speaker 6: You can understand like the dilemmas that some of the
- 54:13Speaker 6: like the the managers would have, because how do you
- 54:19Speaker 6: sit Ronaldo? Yeah right, you know, But at the same
- 54:23Speaker 6: time you might look at it and say, was he
- 54:25Speaker 6: the best choice in the game they won.
- 54:27Speaker 5: Before this last one?
- 54:28Speaker 8: They sat him, they pulled him out, They pulled him
- 54:32Speaker 8: in a tie game, they scored after it, pulled.
- 54:34Speaker 6: Him in a tie game. I was watching that game too, right.
- 54:36Speaker 8: And you know, if it went into I just that
- 54:39Speaker 8: game was screaming shootouts to me, and I thought that
- 54:42Speaker 8: they would pull him eventually, but they needed those guys
- 54:45Speaker 8: off the bench, like if they have to play a
- 54:46Speaker 8: whole half hour. They might not be used to that,
- 54:49Speaker 8: so it was feeling like it was headed towards extra time.
- 54:52Speaker 8: So I think that's when Ronaldo would have come out
- 54:55Speaker 8: at the end of regulation. But then Spain scores with
- 54:59Speaker 8: in the ninety whatever it was, You know, would you
- 55:02Speaker 8: think of terrible penalty? He's he was great. The Portuguese
- 55:09Speaker 8: back that was on him. New No Men's is one
- 55:11Speaker 8: of my favorite players on Portugal. I think he did
- 55:14Speaker 8: an amazing job on him all game and then he
- 55:16Speaker 8: got hurt and.
- 55:19Speaker 3: He had to leave the game.

- 58:23Speaker 14: joined by former Patriot quarterback Brian hoy Or Brian Thanks
- 58:26Speaker 14: for coming bye, man.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Thanks appreciate you on guys.
- 58:27Speaker 14: Yeah, we asked this of everybody, so I think people
- 58:31Speaker 14: who are football fans, Patriot fans know, is Brian gonna play?
- 58:35Speaker 5: Is Brian not gonna play? What's what's going on with
- 58:36Speaker 5: Brian Hoyry these days? Man? I don't know.
- 58:38Speaker 15: I think it would take a great opportunity to come
- 58:40Speaker 15: along for me to do that. Obviously, I was in
- 58:42Speaker 15: Las Vegas last year. I know I can still play
- 58:44Speaker 15: because I beat the Patriots last year. One of the
- 58:47Speaker 15: most touche, one of the most It's on my list,
- 58:48Speaker 15: Brian the titter sweet moments of my career. So we'll
- 58:51Speaker 15: talk about that later. But you know, so I know
- 58:53Speaker 15: I can still physically do it. But at thirty eight
- 58:56Speaker 15: years old, my kids are getting older. You know, I
- 58:58Speaker 15: think it would take a really great opportunity for me,
- 59:01Speaker 15: you know, to come along, for me to to kind
- 59:04Speaker 15: of look and see.
- 59:05Speaker 2: But so I know I can still do it.
- 59:07Speaker 15: Body feels relatively healthy and.
- 59:10Speaker 6: You know, so we'll see.
- 59:11Speaker 2: It's it's always open.
- 59:12Speaker 15: People always say, you know, you if someone's offering you
- 59:16Speaker 15: an opportunity to play and you feel like you could
- 59:17Speaker 15: do it, you know, you know, I remember a former
- 59:20Speaker 15: teammate saying, play till they tell you you can't. So
- 59:23Speaker 15: definitely capable of it. It's just got to be I think,
- 59:25Speaker 15: the right opportunity at this point.
- 59:27Speaker 14: You know, idiots like us sit there and oh, you know,
- 59:30Speaker 14: you can play, or it's time to go, and everything
- 59:31Speaker 14: like that. But I don't think the lay people realize
- 59:35Speaker 14: what's it like to make that decision as a family.
- 59:38Speaker 6: Yeah, when you have a.
- 59:39Speaker 14: Wife who's supported you cross country trips, taking kids back
- 59:44Speaker 14: and forth, at some point in time, her decision or
- 59:48Speaker 14: her opinion, while always valued, you got to really listen
- 59:52Speaker 14: to That's got to be hard, like from a as
- 59:54Speaker 14: a family standpoint like at what point time do I
- 59:56Speaker 14: need to devote my time to them.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Right, And that's a huge part of the decision making.
- 1:00:00Speaker 15: So that's why I said, like, it have to be
- 1:00:02Speaker 15: the right opportunity and all those things, because you know,
- 1:00:06Speaker 15: deciding to go to play in Las Vegas last year,
- 1:00:09Speaker 15: it was not an easy choice. It was an easy
- 1:00:10Speaker 15: choice because it was Josh in my relationship with him,
- 1:00:13Speaker 15: but it wasn't an easy choice in the regards of
- 1:00:15Speaker 15: what does this mean.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: For my family?
- 1:00:17Speaker 15: And thankfully we had a great school here that allowed
- 1:00:19Speaker 15: our kids to kind of virtual school.
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: With the help of a tutor out there. But it
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: was rough.
- 1:00:24Speaker 15: It was it was a rough transition and they were
- 1:00:27Speaker 15: all happy to come back once the season was over.
- 1:00:29Speaker 15: And so now my son, he's going into seventh grade.
- 1:00:31Speaker 15: He got accepted as Avarian brother. So you know, those
- 1:00:34Speaker 15: are all things that you have to take into account,
- 1:00:36Speaker 15: Like I want to watch him play football at of
- 1:00:37Speaker 15: course he's watched me play for a long time, so
- 1:00:39Speaker 15: maybe it's times you.
- 1:00:40Speaker 6: Know, for a role reverse when you have when you
- 1:00:43Speaker 6: came out of Michigan State, I mean, you didn't get
- 1:00:46Speaker 6: drafted and I don't know what your expectations were heading in,
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: but to then have what a fifteen year career off
- 1:00:55Speaker 6: of that, What were your expectations sort of when you
- 1:00:58Speaker 6: arrived here in two thousand and nine?
- 1:01:00Speaker 15: What you I was just talking about this with my
- 1:01:02Speaker 15: son the other day, and I said, listen, when I
- 1:01:04Speaker 15: didn't get drafted, you know, I kind of thought, Okay,
- 1:01:08Speaker 15: the Patriots are going to sign me.
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: I'll learn from Tom Brady.
- 1:01:11Speaker 15: Obviously I grew up I watched Bill coach in Cleveland,
- 1:01:14Speaker 15: so I always kind of had an affinity to him,
- 1:01:16Speaker 15: and obviously him being a great coach, I thought it
- 1:01:18Speaker 15: was a great opportunity to go learn. And I thought,
- 1:01:20Speaker 15: you know, maybe i'll make the practice squad if I
- 1:01:22Speaker 15: get released. At least I'll learn from these guys. And
- 1:01:25Speaker 15: then sure enough, I kind of worked my way up
- 1:01:27Speaker 15: the ranks, ended up being Tom's backup my rookie year.
- 1:01:30Speaker 15: And you know, the things that I learned in those
- 1:01:32Speaker 15: first four years were so invaluable to me that when
- 1:01:35Speaker 15: I finally got some opportunities to play, you know, you
- 1:01:38Speaker 15: put those in motion and then you just keep stack
- 1:01:40Speaker 15: in ears, stack in years, and and you know the
- 1:01:43Speaker 15: thing about the quarterback position is if you're relatively competent,
- 1:01:46Speaker 15: and you're a good guy, and you make some connections,
- 1:01:49Speaker 15: you know, you just extend your career, extend your career.
- 1:01:51Speaker 15: That's I mean when I look at last year, if
- 1:01:54Speaker 15: if Josh isn't the head coach in Las Vegas last year,
- 1:01:56Speaker 15: then you know, maybe my my, my career ends there.
- 1:01:59Speaker 6: But you know, luckily for me, I've.
- 1:02:01Speaker 15: Met a lot of great coaches, played with a lot
- 1:02:03Speaker 15: of great players, and made a lot of great connections
- 1:02:05Speaker 15: which allowed me to do that.
- 1:02:06Speaker 14: That's a little bit unorthodox. Brian as a rookie, now
- 1:02:09Speaker 14: you're backing up Brady, who's, by the way, is coming
- 1:02:11Speaker 14: off a knee surgery at that point, Tom, and you're
- 1:02:14Speaker 14: the only backup quarterback your rookie year. That was the
- 1:02:16Speaker 14: same way in twenty ten you're the only backup court. Like,
- 1:02:18Speaker 14: not a lot of teams did that.
- 1:02:21Speaker 5: How did that?
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: What was your thought process in that?
- 1:02:23Speaker 14: Like you want to talk about literally next man up
- 1:02:26Speaker 14: in your one pitch away, Yeah, you're one pitch away
- 1:02:28Speaker 14: at that point.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: I think I was too naive to even understand that
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: at that point.
- 1:02:31Speaker 15: You know, now looking back, when you realize like Tom's
- 1:02:33Speaker 15: coming off of major knee reconstruction had, you know, some
- 1:02:37Speaker 15: hiccups along the way. Man, if I had had to
- 1:02:41Speaker 15: play that year, I don't know how ready I would
- 1:02:42Speaker 15: have been. Obviously, Bill believed in me, and Bill O'Brien
- 1:02:45Speaker 15: believed to me, and and so I'm sure it would have,
- 1:02:47Speaker 15: you know, worked itself out. We had a really good team,
- 1:02:49Speaker 15: so I think I would have relied on those guys
- 1:02:51Speaker 15: around me. But you know, at that point, you're just
- 1:02:55Speaker 15: I was just thrilled to be an NFL football player,
- 1:02:58Speaker 15: and now I'm going to a meeting room every day
- 1:03:00Speaker 15: with Tom Brady and soaking up what I can I
- 1:03:03Speaker 15: can learn from him. And then you know, that went
- 1:03:05Speaker 15: for four years and then until I got released in
- 1:03:07Speaker 15: twenty twelve. So I mean those years, like you know,
- 1:03:10Speaker 15: those are kind of like, you know, the years you're
- 1:03:13Speaker 15: building your foundation of your career, and I couldn't have
- 1:03:15Speaker 15: done it in a better place.
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: So I wanted to ask you a little bit about
- 1:03:18Speaker 6: that rookie season. You were part of some really good teams,
- 1:03:22Speaker 6: and you know, ultimately you were part of a champion
- 1:03:25Speaker 6: in eighteen, but you know, you had that great year
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: in twenty ten, twenty eleven, you go to the Super Bowl,
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: in two thousand and nine. You probably didn't recognize it
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: at the time, it's your rookie year, but do you
- 1:03:35Speaker 6: kind of look back and say, there was a little
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: bit of something amiss in two thousand and nine. That's
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: sort of the way it's kind of viewed here. That
- 1:03:42Speaker 6: was kind of a reset year.
- 1:03:45Speaker 15: And we're very spoiled because we've been brought up a lot,
- 1:03:47Speaker 15: Like when I didn't know any better, tennis six, going
- 1:03:49Speaker 15: to the playoffs and all that stuff is not.
- 1:03:51Speaker 5: I thought it was great.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: I'm like, man, I'm an a great But did.
- 1:03:53Speaker 6: You see did you sense any like sort of dysfunction
- 1:03:56Speaker 6: at the time, or you know, maybe looking back at it,
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: do you feel like that wasn't the same as some
- 1:04:01Speaker 6: of the better teams that you were on.
- 1:04:02Speaker 15: Definitely wasn't the same. I think looking back now, knowing
- 1:04:05Speaker 15: what I know and being on some great teams, it wasn't.
- 1:04:08Speaker 15: There was definitely some learning curve, there was some adjusting
- 1:04:11Speaker 15: to new I mean, that was Bill O'Brien's first year
- 1:04:13Speaker 15: as a coordinator here, you know, so now I know
- 1:04:15Speaker 15: how important that is, you know, being a quarterback when
- 1:04:17Speaker 15: you're learning, even if you're keeping somewhat of the system intact,
- 1:04:20Speaker 15: you're working with someone new, and that was you know,
- 1:04:23Speaker 15: so those were kind of I guess you call growing pains.
- 1:04:25Speaker 15: But I thought, like, man, we're going to the playoffs,
- 1:04:27Speaker 15: like we're this is I'm on the Patriots. This is
- 1:04:29Speaker 15: like a super Bowl organization. Like, Okay, one year, you know,
- 1:04:33Speaker 15: we didn't win the super Bowl and I'm like, oh,
- 1:04:35Speaker 15: we'll win it next year. I mean, I think that
- 1:04:36Speaker 15: that's kind of the expectation you have when you come
- 1:04:39Speaker 15: into that organization. And I've always said this, I've always
- 1:04:42Speaker 15: looked at it. When Tom Brady was the quarterback. I
- 1:04:44Speaker 15: never went into a game thinking we're not going to win.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: And now great moments in bakery are not history.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: He says that. Are any of you playing Worldal yeah,
- 1:04:57Speaker 5: I played. Do you play erright now? Why not?
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: He gets so upset.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: But well, the way you answered it, No, that's not
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: isn't that how we just said it?
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: It is how he said it.
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, you were very nocessarily not how I said
- 1:05:10Speaker 5: it in my head.
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: I never tell you how I read it. I read
- 1:05:13Speaker 6: it that.
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: I have no time for that.
- 1:05:14Speaker 6: No, no, no, he has plenty of time for it.
- 1:05:16Speaker 6: He plays a bunch of other games like that.
- 1:05:18Speaker 5: Okay, everybody else is doing that one right, all right,
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: So you don't like why I read it? You don't
- 1:05:23Speaker 5: like word O Eric, I don't know.
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: I've never done it.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: So then why are you so dismissive?
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: I'm not so dismissive.
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: You know, why do you think they chose five letter words?
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: That's the most common number of the English language.
- 1:05:37Speaker 6: I don't know, but it's that would be.
- 1:05:38Speaker 7: It's always maddening when they use a letter twice, which
- 1:05:41Speaker 7: I don't like that.
- 1:05:42Speaker 5: I don't like that. I think they did. They did
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: that today, they did well.
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: If you pick a letter, I want to explain all
- 1:05:47Speaker 6: the rules.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: If you're interested, go find out, like for instance, like
- 1:05:51Speaker 5: if it was you were so dismissive, I wasn't. Now
- 1:05:54Speaker 5: you want to know about you're a.
- 1:05:55Speaker 6: Little bit dismissive.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: Just a little bit, just a little bit. That's another
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: great mom All right back here and patriotsun Filter today.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: Five to five past five hundred is the hotline podcast
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: at patriots dot com. Is the email address?
- 1:06:10Speaker 6: You know?
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: They during that break, they're just talking about word. I
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: did the math and I I forget, but word's going
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: to run out of numbers, I mean words, that's at
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: some point because there's only so many five letter number
- 1:06:24Speaker 5: five letter words, and I'm assuming they're never going to
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: use the same word twice.
- 1:06:30Speaker 6: They could start. But if they do run out of words,
- 1:06:32Speaker 6: why wouldn't they Just you don't know what it's going
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: to be.
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: So there is some fanatic in the world who's keeping
- 1:06:39Speaker 5: track of the words that have been Do you.
- 1:06:41Speaker 8: Think they run out of words before their user base
- 1:06:43Speaker 8: just like, yeah, diminishes?
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: No I do.
- 1:06:46Speaker 6: How many times have you do? You still play wordle?
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: Yeah? Every day?
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: Yeah? I usually do too. How many times it's been
- 1:06:52Speaker 6: a word that you never heard of?
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Once?
- 1:06:55Speaker 6: Maybe I just have no vocabulary. I would it's a
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: a good Once a month there's a word that was like,
- 1:07:03Speaker 6: I have no idea what that even means. Huh, I
- 1:07:07Speaker 6: haven't done it.
- 1:07:07Speaker 3: I think you do The New York Times Mini Puzzles.
- 1:07:10Speaker 5: No, well, wordle is now part of the New York Times. Yeah,
- 1:07:13Speaker 5: it is the Connections.
- 1:07:16Speaker 8: No, I play the mini crosswords. They do a daily
- 1:07:19Speaker 8: mini crosswords every day. I suppose you're not more into that,
- 1:07:21Speaker 8: but I guess you're.
- 1:07:23Speaker 5: New York Times has a list of advanced this Sunday.
- 1:07:26Speaker 6: No, I do it on paper. It's the opposite. It's
- 1:07:29Speaker 6: whatever the opposite of advanced is.
- 1:07:31Speaker 5: But you don't know.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: But it's much smaller than the one you do.
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: You don't do connections, No, tell me about so connections
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: is it's like this grid of words and you have
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: to like pick the four I think it's sixteen words
- 1:07:45Speaker 5: and you have to do four that are connected to
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: each other. So you swipe and is this an app
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: to No, it's part of those it's right with wordle.
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: It's New York.
- 1:07:56Speaker 5: It's one of the New York New York Times games.
- 1:07:58Speaker 5: Games And the problem with work is that you know,
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: you only get so many wrong tries. Okay, so you
- 1:08:05Speaker 5: only get four wrong tries and then you're out. But
- 1:08:08Speaker 5: if you get the first three lines, then the last
- 1:08:11Speaker 5: four is done for you, you know, and you try
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: to figure it out and like, I can't figure it.
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: I just pick them and you know you're going to
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: be right because there's only four left. That's the only
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: flaw in that game.
- 1:08:21Speaker 6: Do you ever not get the word? And well, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: I've had I've had one.
- 1:08:25Speaker 5: I would say like a few times a month. Oh,
- 1:08:29Speaker 5: I don't get it.
- 1:08:30Speaker 4: Yeah, our friends at Microsoft co Pilot estimate word will
- 1:08:34Speaker 4: start repeating around late twenty twenty seven.
- 1:08:36Speaker 5: Yeah, so it's not that far away.
- 1:08:38Speaker 6: Yeah, that makes sense to me. I mean there's the
- 1:08:40Speaker 6: finite amount of words, right, like this is gonna be like, oh,
- 1:08:43Speaker 6: here we go again. Well, that's my argument. You don't
- 1:08:46Speaker 6: know what the word is, So what's the difference if
- 1:08:48Speaker 6: it was the same word yesterday?
- 1:08:50Speaker 5: You know what it is?
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: Six letter words?
- 1:08:52Speaker 6: They have one, right, don't they have Don't they have one?
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: That's but if you run out of five letter words,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: you can just you put it six?
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: Yeah, seven, where's the end the world? Who cares? All right?
- 1:09:05Speaker 9: Uh?
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: Eight? Five? Five pats five hundred. Let's get to the
- 1:09:08Speaker 5: phones people hanging on. I appreciate that on a dog
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: days of the NFL. Uh, and I get to get
- 1:09:15Speaker 5: my mouse to work. There we go. Uh, let's go
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: to Nick in Connecticut. Nick, we can hear you.
- 1:09:21Speaker 9: Okay, all right, good. I have a couple of things.
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:09:25Speaker 9: One is kind of off topic and the second is
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: kind of on topic. We got obviously the World Cup
- 1:09:32Speaker 9: last night. I personally think that was very, very embarrassing.
- 1:09:36Speaker 9: Even with Balligan back, we looked like we didn't even
- 1:09:39Speaker 9: know how to play. Yeah, that was just bad. Like
- 1:09:42Speaker 9: right after we tied it, they scored again and that's
- 1:09:45Speaker 9: where I kind of lost hope. And then for to one.
- 1:09:49Speaker 9: Soccer isn't typically a high scoring game, but when you
- 1:09:52Speaker 9: have that kind of you know, ratio or whatever, it's
- 1:09:56Speaker 9: just it's just not a good look. And second off,
- 1:10:00Speaker 9: with how deep our receiving core is. I know a
- 1:10:04Speaker 9: big name that you guys all like or mostly fred
- 1:10:08Speaker 9: Eththon Chisholm. Do you think he's going to have a
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: spot on the roster this year, maybe even practice squad
- 1:10:14Speaker 9: because La Kashawan Boody. We don't know if he's going
- 1:10:16Speaker 9: to get traded yet or if he's going to stay.
- 1:10:18Speaker 9: I really hope he stays. He's a great receiver. But
- 1:10:21Speaker 9: with all the chitter chatter about him possibly getting traded
- 1:10:25Speaker 9: or maybe even something else, I just don't know. Do
- 1:10:28Speaker 9: you you think Eten Chisholm is going to get a
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: spot on the rock?
- 1:10:31Speaker 5: If I had to put money on right now three
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: choices on the roster, practice squad or waived or you know, released,
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: I would say practice squad for chism.
- 1:10:42Speaker 6: I don't think there's any chance he gets released, I don't.
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: I think they like him. I think they feel like
- 1:10:46Speaker 6: he's worth developing and they'll either put him on the
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: roster or on the practice.
- 1:10:50Speaker 5: So they could trade him for a second round pick.
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: Paul, this is true, and the Red Sox could you know,
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: actually make the world.
- 1:10:57Speaker 5: So yeah, I just think it's a crowded room right now. Yeah.
- 1:11:00Speaker 5: Now I like f and Chisholm too. The only way
- 1:11:03Speaker 5: he is on the roster if he beats out like
- 1:11:07Speaker 5: Pop Douglas in camp. Yeah, it's hard to see.
- 1:11:09Speaker 7: I mean, I do think he's got a little bit
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: of a unique skill set in that he's a little
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: bit more in that mold of the slot receiver that
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: Josh likes, a quick, short space, you know, kind of
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: what we thought Pop Douglas might be. But he hasn't
- 1:11:21Speaker 7: really become that. Maybe there's a you know, Josh says,
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: I'd love to have that kind of player in the offense.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: But I'm with Fred. I think he's got to bide
- 1:11:28Speaker 6: his time and wait for maybe a trade or I
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: say he's Nick had the spot is Booty gets traded,
- 1:11:36Speaker 6: and I think he'll be on the roster, and I
- 1:11:38Speaker 6: expect that to happen both of those things.
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: Okay, I think numbers, but even with Booty being traded,
- 1:11:45Speaker 5: you think.
- 1:11:45Speaker 6: He's six or seven receivers, Yeah, I guess yeah. No,
- 1:11:48Speaker 6: I think they like him.
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: I think he's you know, like I said, I don't
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: think that he's redundant to anybody. So you know, maybe
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: they see more value or less value in that skill
- 1:11:55Speaker 7: than we're observing now. But you know, I think there's
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: a lot of players like that in the roster where
- 1:11:59Speaker 7: you just kind of have to bide your time, stay
- 1:12:01Speaker 7: healthy and wait for an opportunity to open up and
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: then take advantage of it.
- 1:12:06Speaker 5: Let's see, I think this is uh Brett and Montague?
- 1:12:10Speaker 5: Is that right?
- 1:12:11Speaker 7: I have that right talk Montague, Long Island? That sounds
- 1:12:20Speaker 7: like WESTERNA. I'm sorry, Okay, I have to direct that
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: to Alex.
- 1:12:26Speaker 5: What's up Brett? Right where it is? Brett?
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: My question for I was kind of thinking about Josh McDaniels.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Is he the best offensive coordinator or if he's not,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: what else does he need to accomplish to do so?
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: I mean, he had obviously his whole you know, sprint
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: with Tom. Now he comes in and immediately they get
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: to the Super Bowl, obviously there's a lot of context
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: around that, but he's also part of that.
- 1:12:52Speaker 7: What was the question again, if you see the best,
- 1:12:54Speaker 7: is he the best offensive coordinator you mean, of all
- 1:12:56Speaker 7: time in the league right now?
- 1:12:59Speaker 6: I would say all time the best offensive coordinator of
- 1:13:03Speaker 6: all time?
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: In which case, what would he need to do to
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: accomplish that?
- 1:13:06Speaker 6: Oh, I don't think there's like a way that you
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: can accomplish something that's so totally subjective.
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: I mean, look at what even right now in the league,
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: look at what the Rams do every year, and look at.
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: What you know.
- 1:13:19Speaker 6: Evans guy does, Kyle Shannon.
- 1:13:24Speaker 5: Every quarterback.
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: I would just you know, Josha is a tremendous offensive coordinator,
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: has had a lot of success. I just would look
- 1:13:30Speaker 6: at you know, like all time, you're looking at guys
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: that they they fared at offenses like you know Bill Walsh,
- 1:13:38Speaker 6: you know, you know, being instrumental and you know creating
- 1:13:41Speaker 6: the West Coast offense, you know, Sid Gilman and Don Coriel.
- 1:13:45Speaker 6: I mean, these guys changed the way the game was played.
- 1:13:48Speaker 6: They ushered in a whole new way of calling plays
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: and running running a system.
- 1:13:54Speaker 7: Well, I think it's hard to suss that out because
- 1:13:57Speaker 7: you're naming all head coaches who.
- 1:13:58Speaker 6: Are but these are guys that the developed offenses as assistants.
- 1:14:02Speaker 6: Bill Walsh developed the West Coast offense when he was
- 1:14:04Speaker 6: in Cincinnati under Paul Brown.
- 1:14:06Speaker 5: Right right, that's a really good question.
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: I mean, I I don't think there's a lot you
- 1:14:11Speaker 7: can do. It's just being an assistant coach. It's like
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: being the best second place finisher kind of thing, you
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: know what I mean.
- 1:14:15Speaker 6: It's I just think it's objective like that. Definitively.
- 1:14:19Speaker 5: We talked about that before. You know, like on different teams,
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: the role of offensive coordinator kind of changes. But I
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: think what Brett is talking about, he's talking about the
- 1:14:28Speaker 5: kind of offensive coordinator who is actually the architect of
- 1:14:32Speaker 5: the offense, not just the play caller. And that's Bill Walsh.
- 1:14:36Speaker 5: He was the architect of that offense. Now, maybe he
- 1:14:39Speaker 5: didn't have the title of offensive coordinator because he was
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: the head coach. No, but somebody else might.
- 1:14:45Speaker 6: But when he was the architect of the offense, he
- 1:14:47Speaker 6: was the offensive coordinator. That's when he That's when he
- 1:14:49Speaker 6: actually did it, like Ron Earhart and Ray Perkins, which
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: is but the Patriots system is those guys were coordinators
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: and they they started they started it. Yeah, yeah, but
- 1:14:59Speaker 6: it's but.
- 1:15:00Speaker 7: What he was the architect of last year's offense, right,
- 1:15:03Speaker 7: I mean that's you know, that's where let's say, that's
- 1:15:05Speaker 7: where it gets complicated.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: No, the architect. No, he's the guy who called plays
- 1:15:10Speaker 6: of the offense last year, who was the Josh This
- 1:15:14Speaker 6: is the Perkins air Hud system, but.
- 1:15:16Speaker 5: This is much different something exactly.
- 1:15:19Speaker 6: But everything evolves and you run different plays and you
- 1:15:23Speaker 6: cater to your personnel. But like I'm talking about creating
- 1:15:26Speaker 6: an offense, Like like, I don't think Shanahan and McVeigh
- 1:15:30Speaker 6: created what they're doing, but they're obviously incredibly innovative with.
- 1:15:33Speaker 5: What they do. But within their team, they're the ones
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: that structure the offense. They're the ones that say, this
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: is the kind of offense we're gonna run. These are
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: the plays we're gonna run. You know, to me, that's
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: an architect within a team. Yeah, they didn't create there
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: are you know, it's all based off like you really
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: have to get into it of you.
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: Know, what did Bill Walsh create that made that him
- 1:15:56Speaker 7: the architect of the West Coast offense?
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: And you know it's but I think Josh has been
- 1:16:01Speaker 6: an innovator.
- 1:16:01Speaker 7: I mean, I look at what he did in two
- 1:16:02Speaker 7: thousand and seven, and you know that wasn't just hey,
- 1:16:05Speaker 7: plug Randy Mass into the air Harperkins system.
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: It was let's evolve it.
- 1:16:11Speaker 7: Well, the terminology might have been the same, but the
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: spread offense, they weren't runing.
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: I mean that was run to score, run, you know,
- 1:16:16Speaker 6: throw the score, run to win. I mean maybe it's
- 1:16:18Speaker 6: all based in the same principles of you know, I
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: don't know, that's just me.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: Yeah, but he But but you think the offense has
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: evolved since.
- 1:16:27Speaker 6: It changed based on the time. They don't run the
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: ball as much as they used to, but they run
- 1:16:32Speaker 6: it the same way.
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: Who used to the West Coast didn't evolve from something too.
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: Of course, it does it very well, very well, because
- 1:16:39Speaker 5: I know it's hard to say.
- 1:16:40Speaker 7: I just I have an enormous amount of respect and
- 1:16:43Speaker 7: I think, you know, Josh mcthaniels I think proved a
- 1:16:45Speaker 7: lot last year because there was a lot on him
- 1:16:47Speaker 7: coming back, saying we'll see if he can do it again.
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: You know, he did it with Brady. He hasn't really
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: done it since. And you know, he put together a
- 1:16:53Speaker 7: season with Drake May where he came in second in MVP.
- 1:16:56Speaker 5: Listen, we'll see this year. I give Josh a lot
- 1:16:58Speaker 5: of credit for what he did with Cam Newton. Yeah,
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: I mean Cam Newton was a shell of himself.
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: But it's just like how do you break out and
- 1:17:05Speaker 7: become like this is the Josh McDaniel's offense, Like can
- 1:17:07Speaker 7: he never do that? Like, yeah, you have to come up,
- 1:17:10Speaker 7: but how would we know be like we're doing something new?
- 1:17:13Speaker 7: This is the Josh two point.
- 1:17:14Speaker 5: Oh, I'll tell you when it happens, he'll tell you.
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: He's right.
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: He's got a fullback back this year, I'll tell you.
- 1:17:23Speaker 5: But who was the guy in Denver that kind of
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: created that zone running Gibbs? Yeah, I mean that was
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: innovative kind of yeah, but but still like you know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 5: but that's more of an element, you know, not an.
- 1:17:35Speaker 6: Entire like the West Coast offense has a verbiage all
- 1:17:38Speaker 6: its own, like Brian Hoyer. You know, we would just
- 1:17:41Speaker 6: watch Brian Hoyer a little bit at the break with
- 1:17:43Speaker 6: Fat Paul on the old in the Old Studio that
- 1:17:47Speaker 6: was Medium Paul that Yeah, you were in that, but
- 1:17:52Speaker 6: he he like broke down a play once, like just
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: one play and it went on for like twenty minutes,
- 1:17:57Speaker 6: like just calling a play, like there's a whole different
- 1:18:00Speaker 6: set of you know, wording and oh.
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: Man, where was it last year? I heard?
- 1:18:06Speaker 7: So if you was on like a radio or a
- 1:18:09Speaker 7: TV or something where they were like do the different
- 1:18:10Speaker 7: cadences for the different offenses? And you know he had
- 1:18:13Speaker 7: because he played in so many different ones, like even
- 1:18:15Speaker 7: just the stupid cadence.
- 1:18:17Speaker 6: They're all different how they are. Know, it's like, what
- 1:18:19Speaker 6: was it? It was like twenty eleven, right when Bill
- 1:18:22Speaker 6: O'Brien was you know, like they did things that year
- 1:18:25Speaker 6: that I'd never seen them do before or since. But
- 1:18:27Speaker 6: I don't think he innovated anything, Like he just decided.
- 1:18:31Speaker 6: Belichick probably came up with the idea, what there's less
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: preparation time coming out of the lockout, we might be
- 1:18:37Speaker 6: able to catch some teams unaware and not as prepared.
- 1:18:39Speaker 6: We're gonna go as lightning fast as we can with
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: these two tight ends, and we're gonna have our NASCAR pack,
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: you know. Like, but I don't think that it was
- 1:18:46Speaker 6: like an innovative thing. Teams have done it before since.
- 1:18:50Speaker 7: It makes me wonder if Josh had had success as
- 1:18:52Speaker 7: a head coach and put together a really good offense
- 1:18:54Speaker 7: elsewhere on his own when he's the head coach, would
- 1:18:56Speaker 7: he get maybe more credits the right word, But you
- 1:18:59Speaker 7: know what I mean, like if he went off on
- 1:19:01Speaker 7: his own and now it's kind of he has ownership
- 1:19:03Speaker 7: of it. Whereas as a coordinator, you're always under a
- 1:19:05Speaker 7: head coach. You're always part of a system. At what
- 1:19:07Speaker 7: point does it become yours? I think that's a good point,
- 1:19:09Speaker 7: you know, yep, yep, I know.
- 1:19:12Speaker 6: Interesting.
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: I mean it's the same thing with defense really, you know,
- 1:19:15Speaker 5: you don't hear about it as much, but you know
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: the origins of the three four defense, Yeah you know
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: the LEO Yeah yeah, well no, before that, it was
- 1:19:26Speaker 5: Bud Wilkinson, ok yeah, Oklahoma home in college. Yeah, but
- 1:19:31Speaker 5: that's where the three four started.
- 1:19:32Speaker 6: Yeah, now that's where Parcels got it from. Yep, Bud Wilkinson.
- 1:19:36Speaker 7: But even like to your point, Fred, like a lot
- 1:19:38Speaker 7: of the you know, defensive innovations.
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: Now are more like zone blitz. You know, there's more
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: cover two.
- 1:19:43Speaker 6: Now and the Fangio stuff that's been going on.
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: You know, like there's there's more subtle twists within these systems,
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: whereas you don't really have a whole new defensive system,
- 1:19:52Speaker 7: per se. It's more trends and you know, we're you know,
- 1:19:55Speaker 7: like Bill was a big fan of let's kind of
- 1:19:57Speaker 7: take off the strong side linebacker and make more of
- 1:19:59Speaker 7: a safe the type.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: You know, a guy can run a little bit more.
- 1:20:01Speaker 7: Now you've got Patrick Chung instead of you know, another
- 1:20:04Speaker 7: linebacker type.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: Uh yeah, I don't know.
- 1:20:06Speaker 6: It's it's I love that stuff. I love how interesting
- 1:20:08Speaker 6: it all is.
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: But it's Bucky Jones, the big neck Lucky Jones, Victor Green,
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: Victor Green.
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: Oh man, they were recycling guys in left him right
- 1:20:16Speaker 7: was the Arizona guy they brought in, like Adrian Wilson.
- 1:20:18Speaker 5: Adrian Wilson and another one. He was a good player
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: in this time.
- 1:20:22Speaker 6: John Lynch John.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: Lynch all right podcast at Patriots dot com is the
- 1:20:28Speaker 5: email address. You got a lot of those coming in.
- 1:20:31Speaker 5: Uh this is from Leon. I was wondering who you
- 1:20:33Speaker 5: guys think the fastest players in the team are. I like,
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: I know Gonzales can run with Hill or Marcus is
- 1:20:39Speaker 5: an amazing punt returner. But if you were to line
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: them all up, Gonzo, Marcus, Kyle or Henderson, who would
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: out run who.
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: Henderson, I'd say Henderson. I think that would pick Henderson.
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: Weren't they having like sprints before practice, like.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: Kyle Williamson and Pop or Douglas Williams a little bit,
- 1:20:57Speaker 6: But I don't know if they were both going it
- 1:20:59Speaker 6: all up. I just I think I think Henders Henderson
- 1:21:02Speaker 6: moves different.
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: He floats.
- 1:21:03Speaker 7: I mean it was reinforced when we saw him at
- 1:21:05Speaker 7: Mini camp where I'm just like that guy. I mean,
- 1:21:07Speaker 7: he just it's like some people look like they were
- 1:21:09Speaker 7: mentorr on, like Megan O'Brien looks like she was meant
- 1:21:12Speaker 7: to run cross country, like the girl just looked effortless,
- 1:21:14Speaker 7: like floating over the ground like twenty six point two,
- 1:21:17Speaker 7: no problem.
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:21:18Speaker 6: And that's how I feel like with Henderson and sprinting,
- 1:21:20Speaker 6: it's just like poetry watching him.
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: Go, Let's see who's this? I don't know, he doesn't
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: say his name. What new wrinkles will Kevin Bayern bring
- 1:21:28Speaker 5: to the defense. What's the best way to use his
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: skill set?
- 1:21:32Speaker 6: Smart thing? Yeah, experience, knowing what's coming, alerting guys to hey,
- 1:21:36Speaker 6: watch for this. I think that that would probably be
- 1:21:38Speaker 6: the biggest thing. And I hope that perception hopefully, Yeah, hopefully.
- 1:21:42Speaker 7: I mean, you know, he's just he seems like a
- 1:21:43Speaker 7: guy who's in the right place. You hope he doesn't
- 1:21:45Speaker 7: start to slow down. I think this is the best
- 1:21:47Speaker 7: thing to ever happen to Craig Woodson.
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I mean I'm excited to have him.
- 1:21:50Speaker 6: That could be a really I mean, yeah, it could
- 1:21:53Speaker 6: be a great point.
- 1:21:53Speaker 7: I'd be excited about Craig Woodson if they had brought
- 1:21:55Speaker 7: Jalen Hawkins back just to see how it looked in
- 1:21:58Speaker 7: your two now, to put him next to a guy
- 1:22:00Speaker 7: with the experience and the smarts of Bayern. I I
- 1:22:03Speaker 7: think that the you know, it's there's an unlimited potential
- 1:22:07Speaker 7: there for for Craig Woodson.
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: And what he could possibly do this year.
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: And I'm just interested how they use those two guys.
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: Let's go Egypt just went to Egypt on the counterattack.
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: Oh my god, they're about to build a pyramid right,
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: Oh god.
- 1:22:27Speaker 6: Now do we hate Argentina to I don't.
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: I don't think.
- 1:22:30Speaker 6: I don't know all the all the like I found
- 1:22:33Speaker 6: out that we don't like some of the teams. I
- 1:22:36Speaker 6: don't know, so I don't have all the grudget.
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: It's not like the Chiefs, so the Colts, like, I
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: know that it's just Rinaldo Messi rivalry. It's dumb.
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: It is crazy with soccer, the goals means so much,
- 1:22:48Speaker 7: like you know, it's like touchdown, a goal, you know,
- 1:22:50Speaker 7: yeah that stuff.
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: It's great, but like a goal in the round of sixteen,
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: like these guys.
- 1:22:55Speaker 6: And Antonio Brown took his shirt off a touchdown once.
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: I had some other thing. Brian from New York I
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: asked Evan and alex at on Catch twenty two and
- 1:23:05Speaker 5: wanted to get your opinion on this so question regarding
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: Pop Douglas. I feel last year all we heard from
- 1:23:11Speaker 5: people was Pop was open on this play or that play,
- 1:23:14Speaker 5: and Drake just didn't throw it the ball at him.
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: Do you believe that could be due to his height
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: and Drake not seeing him. If so, how do they
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: fix the problem.
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I think they threw the ball to him. Funny
- 1:23:25Speaker 6: he was like think he did. He had the same
- 1:23:26Speaker 6: around of Tigers Khan Booty. Yeah, they were. They were
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: complimentary pieces.
- 1:23:33Speaker 7: I do think there's something to be said about We
- 1:23:35Speaker 7: feel like Drake prefers to have.
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: Bigger, bigger targets, you know what.
- 1:23:40Speaker 6: Definitely think dogs and Brown this year. Those are two
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: big dudes who I think he will very much enjoy.
- 1:23:46Speaker 7: Uh but no, I mean I think Pop is kind
- 1:23:50Speaker 7: of we expected him to be one thing and he's
- 1:23:52Speaker 7: something else, and they just have to continue to figure
- 1:23:55Speaker 7: out how to how to use him.
- 1:23:57Speaker 6: Drake was very complimentary of him the spring.
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: Remember last year that somebody asked about him and he's like,
- 1:24:02Speaker 7: you know, Pops, he's getting into the right places. You know.
- 1:24:04Speaker 6: It was like he said, like implying he wasn't always
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: in the right places the.
- 1:24:07Speaker 7: First year, and then this year he said, you know,
- 1:24:10Speaker 7: he's really consistently getting into the right spots.
- 1:24:13Speaker 6: He had an active training and mean he took the
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: goal away.
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: Took it away good.
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: Another reason why I can't just can't take the sports seriously. Well,
- 1:24:20Speaker 6: that's why I said that Paul this morning. Every time
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: a goal scoring.
- 1:24:26Speaker 5: That Argentina can't lose.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: That's what it is, answered, racket.
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: They just made sure that the team that's supposed to
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: win and is going to have a chance. Is that
- 1:24:38Speaker 6: what happened? I think they did they call it? Did
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: they call a foul after the fact because the guy's
- 1:24:44Speaker 6: touching his Yeah, they called a foul. Because the ball
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: wouldn't be down here just outside.
- 1:24:48Speaker 3: I didn't.
- 1:24:49Speaker 5: George writes in This is for Paul. He's about the
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: Odell Beckham catch. He says, I think Jet Jefferson's fourth
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: down catch at Buffalo was much better than.
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: It's a great catch. I know the catch you're talking
- 1:25:01Speaker 6: about and seals it not as good as the OBJ catch,
- 1:25:05Speaker 6: but a great a great catch. Yeah, at Buffalo, like
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: maybe three years ago, four years ago. It's an unbelievable catch.
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: It's He's absolutely right, justin Jefferson fourth I think it
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: was like a fourth and eighteen in Buffalo. This has
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: got catch of the year. It's an incredible catch.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: It really is. Matthew Wright s in Fred's I did
- 1:25:29Speaker 5: to move college to spring is so disrespectful to the UFL,
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: the premier spring league. Yeah, yeah, sorry, sorry UFL. I
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: wanted to ask what happens if Gay Bacchus goes unsigned
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: and doesn't join the Patriots. Do the Patriots still hold
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: his rights or is he just a year a free
- 1:25:47Speaker 5: agent for a whole.
- 1:25:48Speaker 6: Year until next draft? Yep, then they would lose his rights.
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: That was pretty good. It's a great catch, and I.
- 1:25:55Speaker 7: Know exactly what he's talking about going on to you
- 1:25:57Speaker 7: know that's I mean, Beckhams was amazing, but that one and.
- 1:26:00Speaker 6: Had he not caught it, they lose. Yeah. Good, they
- 1:26:04Speaker 6: ended up winning that game.
- 1:26:05Speaker 5: Buffalo, let's see Cody. In defense of wearing jerseys, please read,
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: he says, we got.
- 1:26:14Speaker 6: A lot of these last week. Oh yeah, I thine
- 1:26:16Speaker 6: that came back up.
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: They sell blank jerseys. If you want to wear a
- 1:26:20Speaker 3: jersey that badly.
- 1:26:22Speaker 5: Just don't get a name on it.
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: I don't really even care.
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: Just wear it and you don't have to care what
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: we think.
- 1:26:27Speaker 13: He says.
- 1:26:28Speaker 5: I'll admit I was surprised by some of the comments,
- 1:26:30Speaker 5: especially the moronic email from Sean that suggested that grown
- 1:26:33Speaker 5: men shouldn't wear them because it's somehow childish or makes
- 1:26:36Speaker 5: them less of a man. Ironically, I think Evan said
- 1:26:39Speaker 5: it best without even realizing it. He mentioned that when
- 1:26:42Speaker 5: he puts on a Celtics jersey and goes to a game,
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: he feels like a big kid, And I think that's
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: exactly the point. Sports are one of the last true
- 1:26:50Speaker 5: connections many of us have to childhood. As we get older,
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: life becomes filled with work, responsibilities, bills, raising kids, blah
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: blah blah. For many of us, those three of hours
- 1:27:00Speaker 5: on a Sunday or a random Tuesday, or one of
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: the few opportunities we get to reconnect with that sense
- 1:27:05Speaker 5: of excitement we had as kids.
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: If it's that deep for you, yeah, we're the jersey.
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: Yeah. I mean, I don't know why you would care
- 1:27:13Speaker 6: what other people think. If you like to wear it,
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: wear it, yeah, just not for.
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: Me, he says. Being a man isn't determined by what
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: shirt you're wearing. It's determined by how you show up
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: for your family, how you treat your neighbors, whether you're
- 1:27:27Speaker 5: there for their friends, speak exactly, do you spend time
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: with your family, children to be good people, and whether
- 1:27:33Speaker 5: you contribute positively to community. That's what defines character, not
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: whether you're wearing a number ten or a number one,
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: or a custom jersey or of your favorite player. When
- 1:27:42Speaker 5: we start questioning someone else's manhood because they're wearing the
- 1:27:46Speaker 5: colors of the team they love, I think we're missing
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: the bigger picture.
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: It's easy to grin when your ship ridings in and
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: you've got the stock.
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: Markets trans Atlantic accent, right.
- 1:27:59Speaker 6: It does it is?
- 1:27:59Speaker 13: It is?
- 1:28:00Speaker 7: There does not are across sports, because you know, I
- 1:28:03Speaker 7: never felt like I look great in a in a
- 1:28:04Speaker 7: basketball you know, cut off like I was never wearing
- 1:28:06Speaker 7: a basketball jersey.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: It's a tank top.
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: And he pretends he knows so little about basketball that
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: he doesn't even know what a tank top is.
- 1:28:18Speaker 5: But is that really what they call basketball jerseys or
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: tank tops?
- 1:28:21Speaker 6: But it is a tank Top's what I know.
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: It is a tank top.
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: But I've never heard like that sounds informal, That doesn't
- 1:28:27Speaker 6: sound like but a uniform basketball uniform. Everybody would just
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: say it's a tank.
- 1:28:31Speaker 3: Top style of the garment.
- 1:28:34Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:28:35Speaker 6: I I like hockey.
- 1:28:36Speaker 5: I like where people wear hockey jerseys. I think those
- 1:28:38Speaker 5: are cool.
- 1:28:38Speaker 6: You know, when I could you only what I can allow.
- 1:28:41Speaker 7: Yeah, because especially because of cold, stay warm, But I
- 1:28:44Speaker 7: love wearing my jerseys.
- 1:28:45Speaker 6: I think it might have to bust I have a Gronku,
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: one of the alternate gronk ones. Might have to bust
- 1:28:50Speaker 6: that out. Mike is on the show and he doesn't
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: take any offense to it.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: And we still let him sit here.
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: He bothers, you get the hell out.
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: He wears his shirts, not as much as used to
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: want to wear. Jey in your Brusky jersey, go ahead
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: one of millions in Boston. Uh, it's Sully, Sully, Obi
- 1:29:10Speaker 6: Zach writes.
- 1:29:10Speaker 5: In last year, Drake past catches got together before training
- 1:29:14Speaker 5: camp for a few days. Any news if they're doing
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: that again, if we.
- 1:29:17Speaker 7: Had ad we needed add that Drake to Remandre on
- 1:29:21Speaker 7: the water ski or jet ski.
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: Excuse me, no, I haven't seen.
- 1:29:25Speaker 3: I'm sure just like right before camp though last year,
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: wasn't it?
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: You know what I like? Though?
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: Do it? Don't tell us about it?
- 1:29:30Speaker 8: Like you know, no, they got a highlight, you know,
- 1:29:36Speaker 8: it's like it's all like professionally time and like are
- 1:29:39Speaker 8: you there?
- 1:29:40Speaker 5: Or they're going to.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: Rap music in the background and then they're going to
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: release it.
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't like that.
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: Steven fort Drumm, thank you for your service. You guys
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: have the best timing when it comes to taking days
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: off from the show. Last two times the cruise taking
- 1:29:54Speaker 5: Thursday off. One was the A. J. Brown Trade and
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: two was the Jalen Brown trade.
- 1:29:59Speaker 6: Well I didn't know, just so you know, like the
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: A J. Brown trade was not a day off. It
- 1:30:05Speaker 6: was a World Cup game and we couldn't be here
- 1:30:07Speaker 6: otherwise we would we would have had a show on
- 1:30:09Speaker 6: on on a Thursday.
- 1:30:12Speaker 5: Uh, Lou and Philly a couple of weeks ago. Uh,
- 1:30:16Speaker 5: you and the guys were talking about who on the
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: Patriots would have been the best soccer player if they
- 1:30:21Speaker 5: had trained from childhood. In my mind, it's an absolute
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: no brainer. Marcus Jones could have been an elite players footwork, speed.
- 1:30:27Speaker 6: And I used him as an example.
- 1:30:29Speaker 5: I could have been.
- 1:30:30Speaker 8: Something anything he wants us anything. I'm convinced become exceptional.
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: When he started that team that up. That's exactly I
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: don't know will be nice.
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: He's he's anybody else, nobody on defense, else, nobody on
- 1:30:45Speaker 7: I got a crush on him.
- 1:30:47Speaker 6: I don't know if he knows that, but none of
- 1:30:49Speaker 6: the if he knows who I am, which is probably
- 1:30:52Speaker 6: a good thing.
- 1:30:53Speaker 5: Hey you Eric on the whole soccer youth thing. Been
- 1:30:56Speaker 5: loving the off season shows and all the different topics
- 1:30:59Speaker 5: that are being covered in addition to the new England Patriots.
- 1:31:02Speaker 5: I think one thing that is being left out in
- 1:31:04Speaker 5: the soccer discussion is how much is probably Egypt scored? Again?
- 1:31:12Speaker 6: Wow?
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: What's going on with He thinks the one thing that's
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: left out is how much soccer sports media is being
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: consumed by youth players in other countries. Here in the US,
- 1:31:25Speaker 5: a lot of kids start watching ESPN at a young
- 1:31:27Speaker 5: age and get exposed to high level analysis of the
- 1:31:30Speaker 5: sports we love, like the NFL. This is true as
- 1:31:33Speaker 5: well for other parts of the world, except the main
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: focus on soccer, not not another, not other sports. So
- 1:31:40Speaker 5: from a young age, kids are hearing analysis and breakdowns
- 1:31:44Speaker 5: of soccer and how the game flows, works, plays, et cetera.
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: This absolutely has to play into how the rest of.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: Yes, I agree, that's my point is it's not the
- 1:31:54Speaker 6: passionate sport in this country. It is in almost every
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: other one. Yeah, it's not ESPN's fault.
- 1:32:03Speaker 7: No, I throw things like collecting cards, Like for me,
- 1:32:05Speaker 7: I collected football cards, and you know I knew who all.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: The players on the team. I mean, that's it's just
- 1:32:09Speaker 6: all part of it.
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: I think Mike and Florida kind of coming at Paul
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: Uh.
- 1:32:16Speaker 5: Two things first, One, who would be the perfect owner
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: for the Red Sox. I think this ownership group has
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: a pretty good track record.
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: I think they did have a good track record until
- 1:32:26Speaker 6: they stopped trying to win.
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: Yeah, who's the richest from Boston that care.
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: You don't have someone you'd like to buy the Red Sox,
- 1:32:34Speaker 6: someone who's willing to spend money.
- 1:32:35Speaker 5: I would be a good owner if I had money.
- 1:32:37Speaker 6: Yeah, I would be, so therefore you wouldn't be a good.
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: Owner, right. I want them to be from here in
- 1:32:42Speaker 5: a fan How about if I get like a backer
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: that backs me, you know, some big billionaire, and I'll
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: be the owner of that. I'll be the face of it.
- 1:32:49Speaker 6: I don't ever want an owner who thinks it's the
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: right move to trade a guy like Mookie bets like
- 1:32:55Speaker 6: that's all, but.
- 1:32:56Speaker 5: I have a little bars. I would have trade devers.
- 1:32:59Speaker 5: I'm not paying him well.
- 1:33:00Speaker 6: I would also like an owner smart enough to know
- 1:33:03Speaker 6: that he's not a three hundred million dollar play well.
- 1:33:05Speaker 6: That was which is the only reason why I strated
- 1:33:08Speaker 6: I'd love to have him on the team right now.
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: If he had a better attitude, he keep fine.
- 1:33:13Speaker 3: If you keep better because he has Mookie to look
- 1:33:17Speaker 3: up to.
- 1:33:18Speaker 6: Yeah. Again, if you don't trade all your good players,
- 1:33:21Speaker 6: you're not in this situation that I have a very
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: low bar. Spend money and you know, retain good players.
- 1:33:28Speaker 5: The second thing Mike and Florida is going after Paul
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: for is which victories did Bill Belichick take credit for that?
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: He didn't deserve the Baltimore Ravens two thousand Super Bowl.
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: He credits himself with drafting Jonathan Augen and Ray Lewis.
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: I mean sorry, he wasn't even there.
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: You asked, Mike, you asked and I and you didn't
- 1:33:51Speaker 5: just make this up? He said it at the time,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: right back in and retort. Yep, he asked. Let's see
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: I email last week. This is Jadarius.
- 1:34:03Speaker 12: Uh.
- 1:34:04Speaker 5: It was a question for Evan, But I'm curious about
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: Alex's choices as well. You're the head coach and you
- 1:34:10Speaker 5: have to assemble your coordinators for members on the PU crew.
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: Who are you picking for O, C, D C in
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: special teams?
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: M hmm, that's fun. He's asking you asking Barth No,
- 1:34:24Speaker 3: you you me specifically who I'm picking.
- 1:34:27Speaker 6: Who's your offensive corner, defensive cordners.
- 1:34:29Speaker 3: This is my defensive coordinator.
- 1:34:32Speaker 6: Evan and I both had Paul's got to be the
- 1:34:35Speaker 6: head coach right now.
- 1:34:36Speaker 5: Paul would have to be head coach and offensive coordinator.
- 1:34:39Speaker 3: You're a phil special for me, Bill, no idea special.
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: Evan wouldn't realize.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: I have the most experienced punting soccer balls.
- 1:34:50Speaker 5: There you go.
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: Evan wouldn't relay Evan.
- 1:34:54Speaker 8: Would you'd have to be over his dead body? Would
- 1:34:57Speaker 8: he not be the offensive coordinator? And then I have
- 1:35:00Speaker 8: my villain, Ernie.
- 1:35:01Speaker 6: It's got to be the head coach. Yeah, you're you're
- 1:35:04Speaker 6: the balls, but.
- 1:35:04Speaker 3: You're the situational clock guy. That's like in right, and
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: you're holding him back to you, the whole back guy,
- 1:35:10Speaker 3: the whole back guy.
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: I don't need a whole back hold. I say, I
- 1:35:14Speaker 6: need someone to be the whole back guy on me
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: because I'd be yelling at the hold. Right.
- 1:35:19Speaker 5: I'm wondering what i'd wear on the sideline if I
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: was a head coach.
- 1:35:22Speaker 8: Yeah, you have a cardigan, now, some kind of like
- 1:35:26Speaker 8: Dick had the sweater vest. You would you would have
- 1:35:28Speaker 8: a cardigan?
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: I don't know. I don't know, like what would be
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: like assuming the weather's not bad, because if the weather's bad,
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: I'm dressing up for the weather.
- 1:35:36Speaker 8: Ye always sixty two degree day in October and it's sunny.
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: Yeah, oh probably quarters of quarters?
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you. I think you make the cardigan
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: your brand.
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: Maybe some wide quarter what Bill.
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: Did with the cutoff Poddy and what Mike Dicka did
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: with the vest.
- 1:35:55Speaker 6: Will you know that Deuce would do that. I don't
- 1:35:57Speaker 6: know what it would be, but he would have some
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: kind of isn't it funny?
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: Though?
- 1:36:00Speaker 7: Like like in a hockey game the coaches wearing a
- 1:36:03Speaker 7: suit looks normal. An NFL coach walks out in a
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: suit on the sideline, like that's weird?
- 1:36:07Speaker 6: What's he doing?
- 1:36:08Speaker 5: Like you know, right, like why is this some jarring
- 1:36:11Speaker 5: back in the day? Then right, like tried to bring
- 1:36:19Speaker 5: special and Jack like why it's so bizarre? And then
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: like you know, football coaches come out and like wind pants.
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: And you know, yeah they look lemon.
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: What about basketball head coaches?
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: Like they stopped so they were like they're like in
- 1:36:35Speaker 7: practice right, like like like yeah, or just a long
- 1:36:39Speaker 7: sleeve teacher.
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: By the way, what about the US men's team manager
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: that the thing that he wears, it's like it's it's
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: like it's not a leisure suit, but it's like this
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: it's like a casual.
- 1:36:52Speaker 6: It's like, yeah, it's a weird. Look, I agree he was.
- 1:36:59Speaker 6: He had the Paul last night though he was pouting
- 1:37:01Speaker 6: it up on the sideline.
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: That's not what I told him.
- 1:37:06Speaker 8: It reminds me of that denim shirt that Rabel loves,
- 1:37:09Speaker 8: what I mean, but then a mix of like, no,
- 1:37:12Speaker 8: a mix of Rabel's closet. I guess his denim shirt
- 1:37:14Speaker 8: that he loves and wears all the time, and then
- 1:37:16Speaker 8: his workman shirts that he got for the whole team.
- 1:37:18Speaker 3: I was like a cargo mix of that show.
- 1:37:21Speaker 5: Otherwise it is the blue vest.
- 1:37:23Speaker 7: I admire the consistency, Like I was, like, you know,
- 1:37:26Speaker 7: Bill was funny, but he had different sweatshirts and he
- 1:37:29Speaker 7: changed it up. But Rabel is just like I wonder,
- 1:37:32Speaker 7: at what point did he decide, like I just need
- 1:37:33Speaker 7: an outfit. I don't want to think about it every day.
- 1:37:36Speaker 7: I'm just gonna put on this vest.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: The hedge fund dad.
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: It's just like.
- 1:37:40Speaker 6: Hedge fun dad, you know.
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: And people like kind of didn't totally overlook it, but
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: I don't think they made as much about it as
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: they should have. When Bill would purposely turn like the
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: sweatshirts or whatever inside out so that the logo wasn't showing,
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: Like how can you do that if you're the head
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: coach of a team.
- 1:37:59Speaker 7: I mean, there's I don't know if you want to
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: we don't have we only have so many two minutes.
- 1:38:03Speaker 6: Some of us Smith's at the time.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: But isn't it disrespectful to your own brand, your own team.
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: Well, I mean there was the whole you know, super
- 1:38:13Speaker 7: Bowl fifty one in the Atlanta game and he's got
- 1:38:15Speaker 7: the the elvis was ripped off the jacket and people
- 1:38:18Speaker 7: are like, it's inside out, and I'm like, no, it's not,
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: because if it was inside him.
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: It's just about the It's about the principle of it,
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: you know, like, like what's the price? Doesn't want anyone
- 1:38:27Speaker 3: to tell.
- 1:38:27Speaker 5: Him what to do?
- 1:38:27Speaker 6: Yeah, right, now, that's the principle.
- 1:38:30Speaker 5: Well it is, You're right. I mean, it's just like
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: just rebel without a cost.
- 1:38:34Speaker 8: Yeah, didn't Rondo like years ago Paul might remember this,
- 1:38:38Speaker 8: Like Rondo would wear his headband and he flipped it
- 1:38:41Speaker 8: upside down.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe just got really inspired.
- 1:38:45Speaker 7: I remember nine against Denver, Chal Bill was miked up
- 1:38:50Speaker 7: and he was like talking about the uniform of the
- 1:38:52Speaker 7: Broncos wore those terrible uniforms, and Bill was like, you
- 1:38:55Speaker 7: should have seen what they tried to put me in.
- 1:38:57Speaker 5: He's like, nope, but he can choose whatever you want.
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: Why does he Why would he purposely turn it inside out?
- 1:39:05Speaker 5: Or like you said, rip it goes off the highway.
- 1:39:09Speaker 6: That's intriguing Fred and why I tracked them all for
- 1:39:12Speaker 6: however many years it.
- 1:39:13Speaker 5: Was I don't know, man, you're getting paid a lot
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: of money.
- 1:39:18Speaker 6: He's the oppressed masses. Yeah, being the highest paid coach
- 1:39:21Speaker 6: in the history of sport. That's kind of weird. Let's see,
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: this is a little bit different.
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: I've been watching a lot of World Cup soccer and
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: have seen Have you seen this Holland guy?
- 1:39:34Speaker 8: Oh?
- 1:39:34Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean he looks so big, strong and fast,
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: the perfect American football player. Does soccer have a combine
- 1:39:41Speaker 5: or relative athletics score of or some equivalent. I think
- 1:39:44Speaker 5: he would be off the charts for r A S.
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm sure he would.
- 1:39:48Speaker 5: I how much?
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: I mean, I think he's like six y five. Do
- 1:39:50Speaker 6: you know how much he weighs.
- 1:39:51Speaker 5: I'm curious, kind of a tight end. He's pretty I
- 1:39:53Speaker 5: think if you put him up.
- 1:39:54Speaker 8: Against that, because he's conditioned for to play soccer, like
- 1:39:58Speaker 8: those guys are running ten mile the game.
- 1:40:01Speaker 3: If he was training like a football player, can you imagine.
- 1:40:05Speaker 5: He is a beast? I just like a beast.
- 1:40:06Speaker 7: People do that impression of him with like the head out,
- 1:40:08Speaker 7: you know, and the running and the long blonde hair,
- 1:40:10Speaker 7: and it's just like, I got.
- 1:40:11Speaker 5: A whole lot to have a problem when he gets older. Curvature.
- 1:40:14Speaker 6: Did you see the last game that they played he
- 1:40:17Speaker 6: scored the two goals. Yeah, you see the second goal
- 1:40:19Speaker 6: he scored to put the game away.
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: Oh yeah.
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: It was almost like it was fake. Like he's standing
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: basically in the top of the box by himself, no one.
- 1:40:27Speaker 6: I mean, this is like one of the five best
- 1:40:29Speaker 6: players in the world, and they just center the ball
- 1:40:31Speaker 6: to him. He stops it with one like he stopped
- 1:40:33Speaker 6: it the way I would stop it, you know, just
- 1:40:36Speaker 6: stops it with one foot, realigns himself and just kicks
- 1:40:40Speaker 6: it into the corners.
- 1:40:41Speaker 7: And it's like there's nobody here, I know between the
- 1:40:43Speaker 7: guy's likes in it, like perfectly just kisses the inside.
- 1:40:45Speaker 6: But he was so deliberate with it. I couldn't believe it.
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: But I mean, man, that guy, I mean that he
- 1:40:50Speaker 8: sicks four ways between one ninety four and two oh seven.
- 1:40:54Speaker 6: That's like, I mean, that's maybe a big corner.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: He's probably face.
- 1:40:58Speaker 8: Too, Like he looks like he was the bone structure
- 1:41:01Speaker 8: of like a lost time, you know, like he doesn't
- 1:41:03Speaker 8: really he could have been born in the time of
- 1:41:05Speaker 8: the Viking, just like he doesn't think.
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: He's good looking.
- 1:41:08Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that's the interesting question. He's off the market.
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: You just got the same girl for like five.
- 1:41:13Speaker 8: Years and just how like mainly he is is unique,
- 1:41:16Speaker 8: you know for sure, the bone structure like very strong.
- 1:41:21Speaker 5: What thing I'll say about the Scandinavians, they have the
- 1:41:24Speaker 5: best skin I've ever seen. Like every Scandinavian I've ever
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: seen has like the perfectly smooth, no sun proper, perfect skin.
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: It's unbelievable, whether they're Finish or Norwegian.
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: Or Dutch or the women are beautiful. Yeah, it's the
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: skin Candice Swain Poole and her prime, Like that's what
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: I think of.
- 1:41:41Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:41:42Speaker 7: What I know about Holland two is just he plays
- 1:41:43Speaker 7: with such joy Like it's just like you can tell
- 1:41:45Speaker 7: he's having fun.
- 1:41:46Speaker 8: Like yeah, that's the best example you could say, like
- 1:41:50Speaker 8: in every way stature.
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: That he's only two five. Everybody's like, what an NFL
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: tight end seventy pounds fifty pounds too light?
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: Yeah, a big corner, but you got to be when
- 1:42:03Speaker 3: you're running as much as totally.
- 1:42:05Speaker 5: Yeah, totally raining for soccer because probably, but.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: We'll compare him to Messi, who's.
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: But you'll speaking a little guy. Even casual fans they
- 1:42:16Speaker 5: know Messi, they know Ronaldo, they know. How come we didn't,
- 1:42:19Speaker 5: or at least I didn't hear more about aber Vimmitfitch
- 1:42:21Speaker 5: when he was.
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: Playing the American Bubble.
- 1:42:24Speaker 5: He was crazy. I mean he was so good.
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: Did you see that?
- 1:42:28Speaker 7: I was saying that earally they I saw a highlight
- 1:42:30Speaker 7: of like his first goal and it was like he
- 1:42:32Speaker 7: faked out like seven different guys.
- 1:42:33Speaker 6: Yeah, like the guy go down and pull around him.
- 1:42:35Speaker 8: Gut shot he had to from like yards behind the
- 1:42:39Speaker 8: box that hit like one hundred miles per hour off
- 1:42:41Speaker 8: his foot.
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: He's got one of the cockiest guys I've ever seen
- 1:42:44Speaker 6: in my life.
- 1:42:45Speaker 5: Like just the comments that he has.
- 1:42:47Speaker 6: Is there anything like how long ago did he stop playing?
- 1:42:50Speaker 5: Twenty eighteen? I think okay, he didn't stop until he
- 1:42:53Speaker 5: was like forty one. I think, all right, so something
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: it was recent enough. Yeah, I was gonna say, like
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: because the game, you know how sometimes oh not done yet.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: But you know, like he came back at a late
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: age and into the Premier League and somebody said, you know,
- 1:43:09Speaker 5: he's too old for the Premier League. He's like, I
- 1:43:11Speaker 5: made the Premier League look old. He's sod.
- 1:43:16Speaker 6: You know when sometimes when you watch like even like
- 1:43:18Speaker 6: eighties hockey, you see like Gretzky and you're like, is
- 1:43:24Speaker 6: everybody else moving right? Like it just looks like a
- 1:43:26Speaker 6: different sport. But this guy played to twenty eighteen, so
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: he played the same game and it's not like the
- 1:43:33Speaker 6: game has changed that dramatically. And you less than tailed
- 1:43:35Speaker 6: monck E goalies with like little pads on like dramatic
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: try to save and like you know, like they come
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: out to come down the angle and they're like right
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: instead of going into the butterfly.
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: James Penni grew the most interesting Patriots fan of the world, says, uh,
- 1:43:51Speaker 5: I'm not a huge baseball fan baseball fan, but Dave
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: Portnoy buying the Red Sox would provide me decades of entertainment.
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: Oh yeah, that would be something I think. Now he
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: would need backers. As much money as he has still
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: ain't even close to being enough.
- 1:44:07Speaker 7: You know, I don't know with all the I mean,
- 1:44:09Speaker 7: like you said, Alex, the Celtics getting killed for the
- 1:44:12Speaker 7: private equity stuff, I mean, it just puts more of
- 1:44:14Speaker 7: a highlight on owners, like honestly.
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: Care for the team, you know.
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: Yeah, so honestly Robert should by the Red Sox.
- 1:44:24Speaker 6: The private equity style. I don't know enough about it,
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: but is it just all like, isn't it possible to
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: have like private equity guys that care about winning too like?
- 1:44:34Speaker 6: Or is it just about the money.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: Your bottom line?
- 1:44:39Speaker 5: There's nothing if you're in it for the money. There's
- 1:44:42Speaker 5: nothing better for business than winning a championship. You're gonna
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: make your return tenfold if you're a championship team, rather
- 1:44:50Speaker 5: than just cutting costs and trying to make your money
- 1:44:53Speaker 5: off of concessions and all that other stuff. But once
- 1:44:56Speaker 5: you become a championship team, now you start printing money, right, So, yeah,
- 1:45:01Speaker 5: it takes more money to become that champ, but I
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: think in the long run it pays off.
- 1:45:05Speaker 6: I think you might be right, but I think it's time.
- 1:45:09Speaker 8: You know, you can also make a lot of money
- 1:45:10Speaker 8: just buying more teams, you know, and maybe not everyone's
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: winning a championship, but you have so many of them,
- 1:45:16Speaker 8: doesn't make a difference.
- 1:45:17Speaker 6: He did, That's that's the line of demarcation.
- 1:45:20Speaker 5: Well, I mean, you know, chishm is already.
- 1:45:22Speaker 8: It got bad enough for them to issue an apology
- 1:45:24Speaker 8: to like statement to Liverpool fans.
- 1:45:26Speaker 6: They were trying, they were going to try to do something.
- 1:45:28Speaker 3: And they were going to like boycott.
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: They got boycotted out of it.
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: But Chisholm's already talking about it. You know, a stadium
- 1:45:37Speaker 5: for the Celtics for the Celtics, and you know that's
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: where you make your money, is owning your own.
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: He can have his own concerts and everything else that
- 1:45:47Speaker 6: goes with it. Where would that go? Well? Talking about
- 1:45:50Speaker 6: the seaports, where is there left.
- 1:45:54Speaker 5: To build down by where the Boston Athletic used to be.
- 1:45:58Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:45:58Speaker 6: And I just hear people on radio saying the seaport,
- 1:46:01Speaker 6: But I don't know. If they do, they can go
- 1:46:04Speaker 6: back to the Yellow seas.
- 1:46:07Speaker 3: It's just so hard to get to.
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: The trying to do it himself. I love this. I
- 1:46:12Speaker 5: love this.
- 1:46:12Speaker 7: We're gonna stay on an extra, We're gonna go, We're
- 1:46:17Speaker 7: gonna keep going watch this.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: Egypt Eric from Amherstburg. I coached high school football and
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: martial arts boxing karate and m m A. Why doesn't
- 1:46:29Speaker 5: the league go to soft shell pads helmet and shoulder pads.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: We violently throw kicks, takedowns, et cetera. We use soft
- 1:46:35Speaker 5: shells because it slows the concussive blows to the head.
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: Hard shells allow the brain to take the full rattling
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: without slowing the blow to the head. What's the team's
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: thoughts on that? If the league cares about injuries? So,
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: I don't know, it's a big question.
- 1:46:51Speaker 9: I don't know.
- 1:46:52Speaker 6: Some of them wear Guardian cats that had the soft
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: stops shell.
- 1:46:56Speaker 5: Guy.
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it doesn't seem to be slowing anything down, but
- 1:47:00Speaker 6: you know, there is.
- 1:47:03Speaker 5: There is something to be said as as the equipment
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: gets better and allows you to be more violent, you
- 1:47:10Speaker 5: become more violent and the hits then become harder. If
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: you were wearing or if you didn't even have helmets
- 1:47:17Speaker 5: and you didn't have shoulder pads, it'd.
- 1:47:18Speaker 6: Be more like rugby game.
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:47:21Speaker 7: Uh, maybe this common nodge, But I saw a thing where,
- 1:47:27Speaker 7: you know, there was so much being said for rugby
- 1:47:29Speaker 7: players and not wearing helmets, and when they actually did
- 1:47:32Speaker 7: go to study rugby, like they all got the CTE too,
- 1:47:35Speaker 7: you know, like it's it's.
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: Well, that's prevalent, it's you know what I mean I
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: stayed out on purpose because like you see, they don't
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: they don't talk about all the concussions and all the
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: other sports. It's just a it's a nightmare and it's
- 1:47:46Speaker 6: crucis the soccer. I can see those balls in the
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: head and it's like, will tell you how does that happen?
- 1:47:53Speaker 7: Yeah, it's sound like a sweet spot where you don't
- 1:47:55Speaker 7: feel it like I always felt like they're like you're
- 1:47:56Speaker 7: got a hit her with the crown of your head.
- 1:47:57Speaker 5: I see guys like the side of their head.
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: I mean, you don't jump up together.
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: With no helmet or you get an elbow to the temple,
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: you know.
- 1:48:09Speaker 5: Peter wants to write in Pete in Ottawa now in Florida.
- 1:48:13Speaker 5: Pete'sa a longtime listen to the show and he wants
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: to apologize. But after reading the email, you need not
- 1:48:21Speaker 5: apologize for anything. So I'll just preface the email with
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: that I'm the loser who wrote in last week mentioning
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: that I listened to old shows. Evan mocked me and
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: said I should touch some grass. It's hugely embarrassing to
- 1:48:33Speaker 5: be mocked by Evan. I wanted to explain myself. I
- 1:48:37Speaker 5: cleaned pools in South Florida. I'm outside cleaning about ten
- 1:48:40Speaker 5: hours a day. I'm constantly looking for things to listen to.
- 1:48:43Speaker 5: So that's my reason for listening to old shows, which
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: by the way is still excel. Again, no need to apologize,
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: it's Evan is the one you should be apologized. Evan
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: hasn't done a hard day's work like that in his life.
- 1:48:56Speaker 6: No, not like that period.
- 1:49:00Speaker 5: So I don't even think he knows how to swim,
- 1:49:02Speaker 5: let alone clean a pool.
- 1:49:03Speaker 6: Aunt of Massachusetts, could you stop by my my house
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: clean my pool? That is a good quick Can you
- 1:49:08Speaker 6: even swim? I think that's a yes.
- 1:49:10Speaker 3: Well if he didn't grow up with a yard, did
- 1:49:13Speaker 3: he grow up.
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: Up in the lakes.
- 1:49:14Speaker 6: He grew up in lakes up in Hampshire, probably, so
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: I think he can swim.
- 1:49:17Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, we're.
- 1:49:19Speaker 3: Gonna ask him.
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: Yeah, well.
- 1:49:21Speaker 3: You think I'll answer me.
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: Like a get mopped out how to swim?
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: Just wonder.
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: What you're about to say is wrong.
- 1:49:31Speaker 6: I had a friend who couldn't swim really yeah.
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: Uh.
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: We were in my friend's different friends pool and he
- 1:49:39Speaker 6: was like in the low end a you know, around
- 1:49:43Speaker 6: like he kind of went too far and like my
- 1:49:45Speaker 6: friend's father had to jump in and them noiling around.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: I saw that in boot camp the amount of people
- 1:49:52Speaker 4: that just don't know how to swim. They call them
- 1:49:54Speaker 4: iron ducks because they just sank.
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: Do you have to learn how to swim?
- 1:49:59Speaker 4: Then if there's a whole week it's called swim week,
- 1:50:01Speaker 4: you spend the whole week in the pool basically.
- 1:50:03Speaker 5: So what happens to them? Do they flunk out or
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: they can't?
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: They take like separate swim lessons basically to like catch
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: it up, and then they have to pass it the
- 1:50:13Speaker 4: same test we all do.
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: Gotcha? Okay? They're given private tutor correct Ford and Savannah, Georgia.
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: For the fourth of July, my mother and nephew came
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: to visit me. Before they came, I was start staring
- 1:50:24Speaker 5: at the pristine Larry Bird jersey that I only wore
- 1:50:28Speaker 5: once to say thank you to the person who got
- 1:50:30Speaker 5: it for me. I love Larry Bird, but I didn't
- 1:50:32Speaker 5: feel right wearing that jersey as a fully grown man
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: with Paul's With Paul's words echoing in my head, I
- 1:50:40Speaker 5: decided it was time to hang it up and give
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: it to my fifteen year old nephew to enjoy. It
- 1:50:44Speaker 5: until he too becomes a man. Have to side with
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: Paul on this one.
- 1:50:48Speaker 8: Wow, Larry Bird's one of the few exceptions I would
- 1:50:51Speaker 8: make too, because it's like a legend.
- 1:50:53Speaker 5: It's my rule.
- 1:50:56Speaker 6: It's I'm not opposed to buying throwback uniforms. I just
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: would never wear them.
- 1:51:00Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: Put it in a cool frame in your man cave
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: or something.
- 1:51:03Speaker 6: I'd be a big fan of that.
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: I guess.
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: That people would ask me, you know, like what your
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: jersey have. I just think you gotta buy guys, you know,
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: their legends. Yeah, you're there. It's like buy a gronky
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: are back then.
- 1:51:15Speaker 5: Remember the guy that used to work for the revolution
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: that used to walk around in the full uniform full kid?
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: Yeah no you don't remember that, Nora. This is a
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: long time ago.
- 1:51:28Speaker 7: I think it was good for a FIFA though, because
- 1:51:29Speaker 7: they're like T shirts, right, I mean, that's a good fit,
- 1:51:32Speaker 7: not like an oversized, stupid looking thing, like you could
- 1:51:34Speaker 7: just kind of wear it.
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: I don't mind wearing the teen jersey, but like having
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: another guy's name on your back, I'm not sure about that.
- 1:51:40Speaker 6: What was the name, what was the what was the
- 1:51:42Speaker 6: team that? Do you remember when the UK fans came
- 1:51:45Speaker 6: and they gave us stuff. They came with gifts and
- 1:51:47Speaker 6: I got a Do you remember what the name of
- 1:51:49Speaker 6: the team was? I have, I had a kid.
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: UK.
- 1:51:54Speaker 6: It was the UK guys that came here, like I
- 1:51:57Speaker 6: think Mark was here. No, just a jersey.
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: So which team was it?
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: I don't remember.
- 1:52:03Speaker 5: Was it I don't know? Was it Arsenal?
- 1:52:05Speaker 6: I don't remember.
- 1:52:07Speaker 5: I don't I don't remember.
- 1:52:08Speaker 9: It.
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: Definitely wasn't Manchester.
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: You're saying words, I know what they mean.
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: Definite I know. Yeah, I don't remember. I've got a
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: bunch of German jerseys from different team. Yeah. Yeah, I
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: got one from Bayern Munich that has my name on it,
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: so I'll wear that because it has my name on it.
- 1:52:31Speaker 8: I have an old Byron jersey that's a long sleeve
- 1:52:33Speaker 8: and it's so vintage. They don't even have all the
- 1:52:36Speaker 8: stars for the amount of championships.
- 1:52:39Speaker 5: Speaking of the UK, Robin the UK says he hasn't
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: gotten his T shirt. Rob in the UK, Rob in
- 1:52:46Speaker 5: the UK. The email that came in today he needs his,
- 1:52:49Speaker 5: He needs his T shirt.
- 1:52:51Speaker 2: Ten of them went out yesterday. Did Rob's I have
- 1:52:55Speaker 2: to I have to check.
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: I don't know to be honest, okay, because that's what
- 1:52:58Speaker 5: we're talking about right now. He needs it, yeah badly.
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: All right, so I took care of that one. I'm
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: not going to delete it. No, I can delete mine. Okay.
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: So MESSI takes the lead with eight goals.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: Huh, and we're gonna have him. Rob.
- 1:53:14Speaker 2: Shirt did get sent out yesterday, Rob, so check at that.
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: How long is it taking shirts to get to the
- 1:53:20Speaker 5: UK these days? I don't know.
- 1:53:23Speaker 2: The FedEx thing says you're getting a shipment today, so.
- 1:53:26Speaker 5: Oh great, wow wow. So Rob, keep your eye out
- 1:53:29Speaker 5: in the overnight International in your flat.
- 1:53:32Speaker 3: They're using drun.
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: It's going to get delivered to your flat today, assuming
- 1:53:36Speaker 5: that you live in a flat. If he has a home,
- 1:53:39Speaker 5: don't That's why I said, assuming that you live in
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: a flat. He could He could live in one of
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: those little rowhouses with the little gardens that.
- 1:53:48Speaker 6: They're so cute the English nowhere conditioning.
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: All right, well, listen, it looks exactly what you think
