- 0:11This is Plaza B Live, the official podcast of The Dave
- 0:14Bowman Show. Thomas Paine didn't mince words
- 0:21in 1776, while most people were still bowing to the idea of
- 0:24monarchy. He called King George the Third
- 0:27the royal brood of Britain. That wasn't just an insult, it
- 0:30was a declaration of war against everything King stood for.
- 0:34Payne's message in common sense was simple and revolutionary.
- 0:37No man has a divine right to rule another.
- 0:40He tore into the whole idea of hereditary power, pointing out
- 0:44that every royal family started with some guy who grabbed a
- 0:48crown by force, and generations later we're still pretending his
- 0:51descendants are special. He thought that was ridiculous,
- 0:54and honestly, he wasn't wrong. He mocked the notion of divine
- 0:58right as a superstition that kept people obedient.
- 1:02To Paine, monarchy was tyranny wrapped in silk.
- 1:06George the Third, sending armies to crush his own subjects, had
- 1:10forfeited any claim to moral authority.
- 1:12What made Paine's writing so powerful was its plainness.
- 1:16He spoke directly to farmers, tradesmen, and soldiers, telling
- 1:20them that freedom didn't come from kings, it came from the
- 1:23people themselves. Common sense wasn't just an
- 1:25argument for independence, it was a call to grow up, to stop
- 1:29worshipping crowns and to take responsibility for self
- 1:32government pains. Words lit a fire that burns
- 1:35straight through royal tradition, and that fire still
- 1:38burns in every free Nation Today.
