- 1:23Car Matter from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny dillar Foreman pri State Life
- 1:37and Casualty on the Branch office manager down here. Sorry, mister Porreman,
- 1:41but the answer is no. Well, this is an arson case Dollar and
- 1:44we're already having to make one payoffice. Sorry, but it'll have to wait.
- 1:47I'm going to get as far away from this New England winter as I
- 1:49can well for that, I don't blame you, but there's no reason you
- 1:52shouldn't. Look. I've had a rough year of it. I'm tired and
- 1:53I'm cool, and unless I can get down to where the warm Bomby breezes
- 1:57wapped in, I have got to have you on this case. There's a
- 2:00lot at stake now. My office is down here now, sir, I'm
- 2:04sorry you're in Sarasota. I just can't do it, mister Foreman. I've
- 2:07already made a plane reservation for Sarasota, Florida, and this is one time
- 2:10I'm going to Where did you say your branch office is sarah Sota, Florida.
- 2:28Bob Bailey in The Exciting Adventures of the Man with the Action Packed Expenser
- 2:31Count America is fabulous free lance. Insurance investigator of US Truley Johnny Dollar.
- 2:51Expense accounts submitted by Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to the Tri State Life and Casualty
- 2:55Insurance Company Home Office, Hartford, Connecticut. Following is an out of expenses
- 3:00and curd during my investigation of the burning car matter expense account out of one
- 3:07which I thought I was going to have to absorb myself one hundred and twenty
- 3:10nine dollars transportation and incidentals to Sarasota, Florida. It was nearly five pm
- 3:15when I got there, so instead of checking into a hotel, I taxied
- 3:19that side him two a dollar even, I taxied to Earl Porman's office in
- 3:22the Conrad Building. He turned out to be a tall, lanky, easy
- 3:25going fellow with clear blue eyes and already smile. Sit in an office and
- 3:30talk business this time of day. You're in Florida now, Johnny Well,
- 3:32I thought from your call, this was a pretty urgent matter. Mister Porman,
- 3:36it is Arson, you said, yeah, probably, here's no reason
- 3:39we can't go out to my little shack on the key and be comfortable while
- 3:43we talk about it. Besides Michael Wacher for dinner, Mike, my wife
- 3:46Gertrude. Oh, come on, my gelopp is right out at the curb.
- 3:50Come on, Johnny. Poor Man was a misnomer for this man,
- 3:57because his Jealopy turned out to be a spanking new Cadillact, complete with air
- 4:00conditioning and all the fixings and the shack anything. But it was on Saint
- 4:05Armand's Key across Sarasota Bay from the mainland. A beautiful two story concrete and
- 4:10stucco job. The big yard backed on a quiet bio and they're tied up
- 4:15at a private dock. Was a twenty four foot lap strake speedboard, ideal
- 4:17for fishing the Gulf of Mexico. After all long gear down here on expense
- 4:20the country. Yeah, but it's charged to your company. Remember. Oh
- 4:27hey, there she is the door. Huh, the big fat, overbearing
- 4:30broad I'm married too. This was another switch for Earl's wife. Standing in
- 4:35the doorway was the cutest little trick I'd seen in a long time. But
- 4:40see, pretty and blonde with eyes that you noticed right away because they were
- 4:44almost green eyes that suddenly narrowed as she looked at me, And I wondered,
- 4:48why, Johnny Dollar, did you say that's right insurance investigator on here
- 4:56to look into those fires? Oh? Any objections, No, of course
- 5:01not. Just set your bags here in the hall, Johnny. All right,
- 5:05And wouldn't you like a drink after your long trip? Yeah, and
- 5:08you can get me one too, Scotch. Johnny Martin Zvo. Oh great
- 5:12Welsota place. Nice. I take it Mike isn't too interested in the insurance
- 5:20business. Huh. You know she used to be a singer dancer. Oh
- 5:26wow, this is a little different. But now tell me all well,
- 5:30actually, I guess we ought to wait until Arnold Carr gets back. Carr
- 5:33Brothers Lumber Enterprises. Arnold runs a business and his brother Edward well ed just
- 5:41shares the profits, real black sheep of the family from what I've been able
- 5:45to learn. Oh, anyway, they have yards all over the state.
- 5:47There's one here in Sarasota, one up the coastaways at Fort Pierce, and
- 5:51still another at Arcadia that's about forty miles in and just east to hear.
- 5:56And there was one up in Orlando, was completely destroyed by fire a couple
- 6:00of weeks ago, and one hundred and twenty thousand dollars claim has been filed
- 6:04one hundred That's where Arnold Carr is then in Orlando, trying to clear things
- 6:11up. You dream, all nice, he earl. Yeah, Well to
- 6:15the gods and goddesses and us. Shouldn't I be up in Orlando? And
- 6:24Arnold's on his way back here now he lives here. He just went up
- 6:27there to arrange for clearing off and selling the property. You mean he's planning
- 6:30to just parker the money if tri State pays off. I mean looks like
- 6:34it. But I take it you suspect Arson, Yes, Earl suspects Arson,
- 6:39Johnny, and so does Arnold Carr, at least he says he does.
- 6:41But they have no reason. No. How about the other fires or
- 6:45attempted fires. Oh, we're at Arcadia for one, But they got it
- 6:48out in time. At least that's the way Arnold Carr reported it, the
- 6:51way he loves me tell it, Mike. Oh, there was another at
- 6:55the yard here in Sarrisota. Arnold himself discovered it one night when he was
- 6:59just driving around. But nothing to indicate it was attempt at arsen. No,
- 7:02the authority's up in nor Line. No, found no indication of it
- 7:04there, Mike. You know as well as I do that a lumberyard fire
- 7:09will obliterate signs of arsen better than any other kind of fire in the world.
- 7:13But she has a point of world unless there's some evidence of ours.
- 7:16Of course, why I sent for me, well, mostly because Tulie,
- 7:20because Arnold Carr, but he's given you no real reason, none at all.
- 7:25I think he has a real reason, but he just won't tell us.
- 7:28Wait to see him. He's gonna call when he gets in. We'll
- 7:30run over to his place on longboat. Key. What about his brother,
- 7:33Edward? Did you say I've never met him. He's always stayed in Orlando.
- 7:38I was wondering if he might tell things that Arnold is holding back.
- 7:41I had Edward Carr. You can never be too sure. Look, why
- 7:46can't you agree with me? For that must be Arnie? Now excuse me.
- 7:53Hello, this is Arnold Carr. Oh, hi, Arnie. Johnny
- 7:57Dollar arrives, so we'll be well, I'll let you talk to him here.
- 8:01No, okay, No, listen what I told you before? It
- 8:07was Arson? It was Arson again tonight tonight? What's that? Arcadia just
- 8:13went up in flames the whole yard. Good lord, did you hear that?
- 8:16Yeah? I heard it. Well can you prove it was Arson tonight
- 8:20in Arcadia and before in Orlando? I have proof? Well, Arnie,
- 8:24we will be over just as fast as what. No, wait for me
- 8:28there at your home. Well, but look now, lessons come here,
- 8:33and I mustn't stay here because I now listen, man, you Arnie,
- 8:43Well, I guess he's ready to tell us now. A suspicion began to
- 8:50grow in my mind, a suspicion that Mike apparently shared with me, that
- 8:56Arnold Carr himself might be responsible for the fires. After oh, he was
- 9:00the only one who had seemed to know about the two unsuccessful attempts. He
- 9:03himself had planted the idea of ours. He'd lost no time in filing claim
- 9:07for the Orlando burnout. But Earl said I was wrong, Arnold was too
- 9:11honest a man. Earl had also said we were only fifteen minutes from Carr's
- 9:15home, so when half an hour passed, we called him back got a
- 9:18busy signal. After the fourth try, the three of us took off on
- 9:22Earl's cab. As we pulled into cars driveway, we could see him through
- 9:26the picture window, sitting at his desk, telephone in hand, apparently engrossed
- 9:30in a call. Then, as we walked up to the door, I
- 9:33noticed something else. Arnold Carr looked enough like me to be my brother.
- 9:39Maybe that explained Mike's reaction when she first saw me. Hey, Arnie,
- 9:45can't you see he's on the phone. In there. Well, the least
- 9:48he can do is hear his own doorbell. Earl Wait, good lord,
- 9:54what's the matter through the window? I don't know? Stand back, say
- 10:03what is it? Didn't you see from out there? What's wrong? Well,
- 10:11Johnny right to the foreheader looks like a thirty eight before I get stopped,
- 10:20and Meryl took the phone out of the dead man's hand and called headquarters.
- 10:24Mike turned pale and slumped into a chair, and I gave the place
- 10:28a quick rundown, checked doors, windows, et cetera. A few minutes
- 10:31later, an officious young sergeant named lark And arrived and took over hey caliber
- 10:35straight through the middle of the forehead. We're all three of you here when
- 10:39it happened, mister Forman, missus Porman, and uh, who are you?
- 10:41The answer to your first question, sergeants know none of us was here.
- 10:46And this is Johnny Dollar Insurance invest hire you insurance guys work pretty fast.
- 10:50You related to mister Carr? No? Why look a little like him
- 10:54who busted in the front door the killer I did. When we drove up,
- 10:58we saw mister Carr sitting there at his death. We rang the doorbell
- 11:01and knocked but when he didn't move, you took things in your own hands
- 11:03and busted in. Euh, that's right. You haven't moved anything, have
- 11:05you, No? Except I took the phone out of his hand to call
- 11:09you. Dollar. If you're any kind of investigator, you should have known
- 11:11better. They'll let him touch anything. And let's see, the shot must
- 11:16have come from somewhere near this window by the fire. Sure, here we
- 11:20are, bullet hole right through the pane. Bull was fired from outside?
- 11:24You're sure, sergeant, Sure, I'm sure. Look for yourself. You
- 11:28call yourself an investigator, Hey, Cummings, Well I check the area around
- 11:33that window beside the chimney out there for footprints, maybe an empty cartridge case.
- 11:37Uh, you folks, get out of here so I can call Doc
- 11:39Handley over and get on with my investigation. And no, Dollar, I
- 11:43don't need any of your help. Well, thank you, sir. Your
- 11:46job is fire's not. Hey, where did missus Porman go out to the
- 11:50car? Why? Who told her she could leave? Who told her she
- 11:54had to sit here looking at a corpse? All right? Dollar? All
- 11:56right, just be sure the three of you stick around town in case I
- 11:58decided question you further. Oh, of course, sergeant. Yeah, not
- 12:11shot by somebody standing outside. What do you mean, Johnny, Oh,
- 12:13I spotted that bullet hole in the window too, So I also noticed there
- 12:18were no particles of glass on the inside sill, but there were some on
- 12:20the outside. Yeah. The shot that made that hole was fired from inside
- 12:24that room to make it look as though it had come from outside. Then
- 12:28somebody was in there with Arnold Carr. Yeah, either somebody he let in
- 12:31or who had normal access to the house, and he had to stop Arnold
- 12:35from talking about the fire and Arcadie. Hey, how much do you know
- 12:39about his brother, Edwarod? Nothing really outside of what Arnold told me was
- 12:43either the married family of any sort. Arnie wasn't. But Arnold's death means
- 12:48Edward will own the business then woa, Yes, and he lives up in
- 12:52Orlando. Seen of the first big fire. Yes, very good, Heaven,
- 12:54Johnny, you don't think his own brother. We're gonna rent a car,
- 12:58take Mike Chevy in the car part of the house. But what are
- 13:01you gonna do? Drive up to Orlando by way of Arcadia. When I
- 13:09got to Arkadia, only a few people were standing around the remains of the
- 13:11fire. One host company was still working on it, and a couple of
- 13:15police were poking about in the embrass. Walking toward it, I almost stumbled
- 13:18over a little old man sitting alone in the darkness beside a palm tree,
- 13:22hunched over his head in his hands, sobbing. He didn't even look up
- 13:26when I stopped beside him. Who was a part of my own life?
- 13:31Which is you were you lost someone in the fire? Said no, son,
- 13:35only part of my life. I helped build up that yard, me
- 13:39and miss ny Arnold carr all long. He's been worried about it last week
- 13:46when him and me smelled smoking, come over here and put out the barrel
- 13:50of tracea was smoldering. He knew, knew what that somebody was trying to
- 13:54burn him out. That's why he stopped by tonight on need to wear home.
- 14:00We drove over here, him and me, and I brought my gun
- 14:03just in case. When we got here too late, already blazing, when
- 14:09he s an automobile pulling away. Auto. Yes, Frank, he said
- 14:15to me, I knowed he who was the one trying to burn me out?
- 14:18He said, who, old timer? Who do you mean? He
- 14:22didn't say, and he called the fire department. That car that pulled away?
- 14:28What was it? Just uh auto, big white buick. But he
- 14:31tied it in with whoever set the fire. All he said was I knowed
- 14:37he was the one. Do you know who it was? He meant,
- 14:41well, he told me even if I didn't know, I should never tell
- 14:46even the police. Well who do you think it was? Break my word
- 14:50to mister Johnnie? Ah? Never shine? All right, Look, oh
- 14:54man, I'm sorry, I have to tell you this. Mister Ronnie's dead.
- 14:58What push push? He can't be he was you? Eh? Maybe
- 15:05you sort in the darkness, I would know you, but I do know
- 15:09you just a minute. All times, mister Arney, standis because you killed
- 15:13him? What? Just like you shut the file? No, I'm not
- 15:16who you think. I kill you. That's what I'll do down a cat
- 15:39act two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar In just a moment. Back
- 15:43in the old days, the very old days, that is, a girl
- 15:46named Cassandra had a corner on the Oracle market. But nowadays you can do
- 15:50some for telling yourself. On jukebox jury, for example, you can help
- 15:54decide which if Tin Panale's new recordings are destined for the hit brackets. And
- 16:00which ones are likely to spiral all the way down to oblivion. Remember,
- 16:03jukebox jury is yours to hear on most of these same stations every Sunday.
- 16:08Now Act two of yours truly, Johnny Dollar and the burning Car matters expensic
- 16:22con Item three five dollars fifteen cents gas for the bar of Chevy to keep
- 16:26me going to Orlando. The old man's sind side was bad, and he
- 16:30was just a lousy shot. Either way, it was okay by me.
- 16:33I hated to slap him down, but there was no point hanging around ar
- 16:36Katie had trying to explain things to the local authorities, So after making sure
- 16:40I hadn't really hurt him, I appropriated his gun and took off fast.
- 16:45He'd thought I was someone else, even I had noticed a family type resemblance
- 16:48to myself an imal car. Sergeant Larkin had asked me if I was related
- 16:52to him, and now the old man at the fire had apparently thought I
- 16:56was the one who Oh well, I'm afraid. I made the rest of
- 17:00the trip to Warnlando, when somewhat less than legal time and at police headquorters,
- 17:03I parted into the office of Lieutenant cal Hudson without bothering to be announced
- 17:10early in the morning. Sit down while I finish up report. Mister Carr.
- 17:14Uh. Thanks, I was trying to reach you, but we got
- 17:18no answers to the phone at your house. That's very interesting. I'm afraid
- 17:23I have a painful duty and notify you that your brother Arnold down in Sarasota
- 17:29last night. Why did you say? Very interesting, mister Carr? Glad
- 17:34you already learned I'll be dog gone. Yeah, you're not the first one.
- 17:42Who are you, Johnny Dollar insurance investigator. I can't believe it,
- 17:48Dolly, you look enough like Edward Carr to be his twin. You even
- 17:52sound a lot like I take it you haven't located it with Jedna Well,
- 17:56no, Lieutenant, I think Edward Carr is the firebuger after and the killer.
- 18:03Wait a minute, briefly as possible, I told him of Arnold Carr's
- 18:07phone called Earl Puorman his emotional upset just before he was killed. I told
- 18:12him Arnold had been murdered by someone inside the house, someone close to him,
- 18:17and that everything indicated that someone could very well be Edward Carr. That's
- 18:22still all just theory. Dollar without any proof, I will admit that Edward
- 18:26is a pretty worthless playboy living off the properts of the Lumbia Eye. In
- 18:32any event, the Lieutenant promised to put out an app on Edward Carr that
- 18:36was at breakfast for the two of us had him four three dollars in a
- 18:38quarter. Before I left him, he gave me ed Car's address seventeen twenty
- 18:42six, Allen Place. As I expected, there was no answer to the
- 18:48doorbell at seventeen twenty six, so I tried visiting up the street. It
- 18:52quickly became clear that ed Carr wasn't very popular and this otherwise quiet, well
- 18:56ordered neighborhood, the big noisy God is at all hours of the night,
- 19:00cars parked up and down the street, blocking respectable people's driveways. Yes,
- 19:06you know, once in a while you expect a person to have callers and
- 19:08such me. I have the Ladies Bridge Club every third Wednesday, Princess.
- 19:12But these are all ladies, not like some of the trash that that man
- 19:17and his friends have, dancing and drinking and carrying on at all hours.
- 19:21Yes, you mentioned cars. You know people like missus Herford Robin, she's
- 19:26awfully nice and Janet ASTERI wedding. Now she's a widow, and you know
- 19:30she could have her pick of anybody she likes. But does she ever look
- 19:33at another man? No, sir, And then this is missus Harper.
- 19:37Yes, you mentioned cars. Do you know what kind? Mister cardrove?
- 19:41Why? Yes, it was a big white one. And well no,
- 19:47my husband, when he was alive, always drove a Maxwell And I guess
- 19:49that's the only kind I forgot to nobody name. But mister Carrs is white
- 19:55only. I guess that isn't much help to you. Is it? All
- 19:56the right cars here in Florida? I mean? Now, even at blonde
- 20:00hussy who's around him all the time, drives a white car. Oh.
- 20:03I really shouldn't use a word like that, though should have, but it
- 20:07fits. Wait a minute, what blonde missus Harper, mister Dowler. I
- 20:11don't pay any attention to people like that. Why you think she owned that
- 20:15house of his? The way she keeps popping in and out all hours is
- 20:18if she belonged there. Missus Harper drives all the way up from Sarasota too.
- 20:22Do you know who she is? I do not. I refuse to
- 20:26pay any attention to people and the way she dresses too, like a newly
- 20:30rich chorus girl, with all her fancy clothes and furs and things. How
- 20:33do you know she comes from Sarasota by the license on her car. Of
- 20:37course, every city has its own number, you know that very well.
- 20:41And hers is twelve ww something. And you don't know her name, of
- 20:45course, not flauding all those expensive birds, as though she bought and paid
- 20:48for them herself. And if there's anything I hate to see, it's a
- 20:52little shrimp loaded down with furst. Now a tall person like eyes. If
- 21:00there's anyone I don't trust, it's a person with green eyes. Thank you,
- 21:03missus Harper her description of Carr's girlfriends stopping in my tracks. That description
- 21:11could fit Mike Pullman to the letter. Herteet, blonde, green eyes,
- 21:15and she came from sarah Sota. And then I remembered Mike's reaction when she
- 21:19first saw me. Her dismissal of Edward is a possible suspect. There was
- 21:23ably as friction between Earl and Mike too. I figured it was just normal
- 21:27and a couple who'd been married for a while. Now I had them five
- 21:33A dollar thirty phone call from the nearest booth, I could find an earl
- 21:36pullman at his office in Sarasta. No, she isn't, Johnny. What
- 21:40well do you know where my kids? When I woke up this morning,
- 21:44I could hear her talk to her girlfriend Betty on the phone downstairs. Betty,
- 21:48Betty lives here in Sarasota. They used to be on the stage together,
- 21:52sister act you know. Yeah. Well, well then when I went
- 21:55on for breakfast, she was gone. Took my car too. I had
- 21:56to come here to the office at Taxi. Yeah, well whole care.
- 22:00Oh thanks a lot. Yeah. Now wait a minute, how are you
- 22:03doing? Found out anything I ought to know about this arson and murder business?
- 22:07Noh, oh, nothing that you need to worry about. I sat
- 22:17down at the corner drug store that side him five eighty cents over a sandwich
- 22:19and a colt to try to think things out. But I'm afraid I didn't
- 22:23like anything that I thought. Finally, I drove over to Allan Place again.
- 22:29I parked a couple of blocks away and walked to seventeen twenty six.
- 22:32I rang the front door, though knocked a couple of times. Then I
- 22:34slipped around to the back door. Finagela lock on it with a little celluloid
- 22:38pocket calendar finally got it open. I left it open for the sake of
- 22:42a quick exit if such became necessary. I guess that was a mistake.
- 22:48For a couple of minutes later, as I rounded the corner from the den
- 22:49into the living room, I felt the barrel of a gun poked into my
- 22:52back. Out of town. I'll wait a minute, move any boy trying
- 22:59to stole off me the five grand by saying you're going to be out of
- 23:02town? Okay, so you think I'm Edward car You kidding? Lets you
- 23:07know what happens when somebody tries to stall me. I don't know exactly how
- 23:15long I was out, but when I came to it was dark except for
- 23:19the globe from a street line outside, and what aroused me was the sound
- 23:23of footsteps, feminine steps cautiously entering the back door, then briefly silhouetted against
- 23:30the window. I saw a trim, petite figure that was all too familiar
- 23:33coming toward me, and she saw me too. Darling, you're hurt.
- 23:37What happened? What do you think? Who struck you? You don't know?
- 23:44Yes, of course it was Tony, because you didn't pay him soon
- 23:47enough for the Arcadia job. Let me help you. No, oh,
- 23:49just I'll arrest For a minute, I thought that was Tony I passed on
- 23:53the road in from Sarasota. Why did you come over from Sarasota to see
- 23:57you? I knew you'd be here. Oh why? Why so the police
- 24:00could surprise you with the news of your poor dear brother's death. Why did
- 24:06you come to the house because I hoped you'd come here. I guess,
- 24:08Eddie, you should have waited until I could raise the money to pay off
- 24:12Tony you made for killing Arnold two? Of course, No you trying to
- 24:18say you didn't kill Arnold. But I saw you from outside in the buick.
- 24:22You'd swear to that, wouldn't you. I don't know what, Eddie.
- 24:26You sound like you don't trust me. We're in this thing together,
- 24:30are you sure that? What are you talking about? Whose idea was it
- 24:33to knock off Arnold? But you had to when he saw you had Arcadia.
- 24:37He knew that you were having the yards burned out. That's the way
- 24:41you figured it from the beginning. Wasn't it first burn up the lumber yards
- 24:45and collect the insurance on them? And then convinced me that you and I
- 24:48should have it all by putting Arnold out of the way, But you had
- 24:51to kill up. I don't understand you, Eddie. Yeah, I wish
- 24:56I didn't understand you. Mike, Mike, come on, let's turn on
- 25:00the line. No, no, somebody sees this, Eddie. You Oh
- 25:08who are you? Are you kidding? Mike? Wait a minute, who
- 25:12are you? You're that insurance investigator Johnny Dollars that Mike told me. Let
- 25:18me don't know you don't You're staying right here, Mike. Poorman's sister,
- 25:22aren't you? Well? Whose sister? So we went? Did a sister
- 25:26act before she married that Poorman guy? Now, but let the go by
- 25:30along. Shot. You may as well. Dollar, what, Eddie,
- 25:33don't move? Dollar? Get his gun? Betty get it? Yeah?
- 25:37Yeah, sure here Edo head car. That's right. You know we do
- 25:44look alike, you and me. Yeah, sure enough for Betty here to
- 25:47have told me all I need to know. Don't believe me, Maddy,
- 25:48he's lying. I heard no, Eddie, I thought he was. You
- 25:52don't just sure? Sure? Why did you come up here anyway? Because
- 25:55Mike told me that Dollar was coming up here? You've been shooting up your
- 25:57mouth. Have heard too, She knew, she thought you might have something
- 26:00to do with the fire. She was my friend. She was trying to
- 26:03get me out of this whole mess at which i'd listened to. Well,
- 26:06it's too late now, baby, and what are you going to do?
- 26:08No, I gotta get rid of both us and figure some way to shut
- 26:11up Tony's mouth. You know you never got away with a car. I'll
- 26:15call him, That's what I'll do, yeah, Betty, and he'll come
- 26:18here to get his money. Then I'll call the police. See, tell
- 26:19him to come right away. Tell him I found out about you having Tony
- 26:22start the fire. That's right, that you had him burn up the yard
- 26:26so there'd be even more money for you to bleed from me, like all
- 26:29the door you got from me already. You're crazy head. I'll tell the
- 26:32police to meet me here, and when they come in, it'll just be
- 26:34in time to see me kill Tony and self defense. After getting here too
- 26:37late to save you, I'll tell me you're out of your mind. They'll
- 26:40check that gun of yours so fast, and that'll prove it, because the
- 26:42only shot out of my gun will be the one that gets Tony, it's
- 26:45gonna yours is the one that's gonna knock you two off, and they'll think
- 26:48it's Tony. Oh Eddy, please, you're drunker, You're great crazy to
- 26:52save my own life, to keep you on, Tony and Dollar from putting
- 26:55a noose around my neck. If you think that hair brained scheme of yours
- 26:57will ever work, you because it's my only chance. So it's going on
- 27:02work now. Thanks lo times. I'm afraid I was too late to say
- 27:14it, Johnny. Yeah, yeah, but Eddie Car'll lived to face a
- 27:19jury. What brought you here? Anyhow? I did, Johnny, Mike,
- 27:25stay there, stay right here, Mike. I didn't want to see
- 27:33it. She was my friend. I came along. When I talked to
- 27:41Betty this morning, I knew your suspicions about Ed were right, because you
- 27:47see, I knew Betty and Ed were going together. Earl didn't know.
- 27:52Yeah, maybe you better call him. Expense account Adams six nine dollars eighty
- 28:03cents gas and incidentals for the drive for the two of us back to Sarasota,
- 28:07remarks Freddy, of course, has already paid for her part of the
- 28:11deal, and I guess it's pretty obvious. What will happen to Ed Carr
- 28:15and Tony Ricardo? The insurance money in the car estates will be distributed according
- 28:19to Florida law. Further remarks the apparent friction between Earl and Mike was only
- 28:25part of a normal married life. They're a pretty nice pair. Oh and
- 28:30I thoroughly enjoyed three days of fishing in the Gulf thanks to Earle. Expense
- 28:34account total including all the incidentals I could think of, three eighty five twenty
- 28:40six yours truly shunning up. Our star will return in just a moment.
- 28:59You don't have to be an efficiency expert to figure out that it's easier to
- 29:02lend your support to several worthwhile fundraising campaigns all at once than it would be
- 29:07helping one campaign at a time. That kind of efficiency is yours to enjoy
- 29:11through the United Community campaigns. CBS Radio hopes that when the United Community campaigns
- 29:17are underway in your town, that you remember how much good you can accomplish
- 29:21with one gesture of support. Now Here is our star to tell you about
- 29:25next week's story. Next week a case with a real twist, one that
- 29:29I think will just about tear your heart out. Jarin us. Won't you
- 29:33Yours Truly? Johnny Dupp? Yours Truly Johnny Dollar is starring Bob Bailey,
- 29:49originates in Hollywood. It is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone, who also
- 29:53wrote Tonight's story. Heard in our cast were Virginia, Greg Harley, Bear,
- 29:59Victor Para, Bob Bruce, Harry Bartel, Vivijanus, Tony Barrett,
- 30:03and Junius Matthews. Musical supervision is by Amerigo Marino. Be sure to join
- 30:08us next week, same time and station, or another exciting story of Yours
- 30:12Truly Johnny Dollar, Damn cubberly speaking, welcome back. Well, let's we
- 31:27have some solid acting. Uh. The story itself really was was a bit
- 31:36contrived to have all these coincidences, uh, and some aren't necessary, like
- 31:42the coincidence of having the insurance guy already be in the city that Johnny was
- 31:48flying to and Johnny looks like one of the suspects. What a coincidence.
- 31:52Twinn's stories always seem to have that that temptation to just become I'm a little
- 32:00too silly, convenient and pant. This story actually kind of turned around for
- 32:07the at the end for me, because I didn't see the twist coming where
- 32:12the woman Johnny was talking to would turn out not to be Mike but Mike's
- 32:17friend, which was a nice surprise, even though it was yet another coincidence
- 32:22and a little confusing because she was talking to Johnny thinking Johnny was Ed,
- 32:29and he was talking to her thinking she was Mike. So I'll give Johnstone
- 32:32credit for a decently clever end that did take a nice twist. By the
- 32:39way, contrary to what they said, Ed didn't sound anything like Johnny.
- 32:49All right, well, that'll do it for today. Join us back here
- 32:52tomorrow for police headquarters, and we'll be back next Friday with another episode of
