- 0:14Speaker 2: In a Driver's Show special.
- 0:17Speaker 1: This this is the Paveley Report.
- 0:19Speaker 2: So should we give just everyone in the room a
- 0:23Speaker 2: few minutes just to hit record. We've got a lot
- 0:25Speaker 2: of lawyers present, and I know.
- 0:29Speaker 3: Fox Second transcribing this at the.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Moment, Yes, Daniel, Sorry, obviously there's a multiple members of
- 0:41Speaker 2: our legal team here. Toadfish from Neighbors, thanks for coming along,
- 0:47Speaker 2: the bald guy from Law and Order, cheers, Buddy, the
- 0:50Speaker 2: lady from Channel nine. Ye, thanks for that, a lady
- 0:53Speaker 2: from Channel just Channel nine.
- 0:58Speaker 4: So today we're going to be chatting by D Shark
- 1:01Speaker 4: and the controversy along with the other plug in hybrid
- 1:05Speaker 4: uts that are coming.
- 1:06Speaker 2: So now a bit of backstory, right, So BYD released
- 1:10Speaker 2: their Shark six. There's a lot of excitement about this
- 1:13Speaker 2: as we record right now, you can definitely place on
- 1:16Speaker 2: an order. They are starting to deliver them, possibly to
- 1:19Speaker 2: custom it up in Brisbane. As in the last week
- 1:23Speaker 2: or so, Paul, you put out a video for your
- 1:26Speaker 2: review and it's rubbed a few people the wrong way.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Let's explain why.
- 1:32Speaker 3: So the collective.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Videos that we've now published have over a midion views,
- 1:36Speaker 4: so they've been very widely watched. So backstory is, as
- 1:41Speaker 4: the Shark was getting released, we contacted bid on a
- 1:45Speaker 4: number of occasions asking if we could borrow one to
- 1:48Speaker 4: drive at the proving ground because they had an influencer
- 1:51Speaker 4: event at like an off road thing, and then they
- 1:53Speaker 4: had another event at Broken Hill where they were doing
- 1:56Speaker 4: the national launch.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Yes, so the launch was a Broken Hill and what
- 2:00Speaker 2: was this other influencer event.
- 2:02Speaker 4: Some of the influencer event was that during the time
- 2:05Speaker 4: of the launch, no beforehand, several weeks beforehand, so they
- 2:09Speaker 4: kept telling me, no, you can't have a car because
- 2:11Speaker 4: they're not eight R complied yet. And I was like, okay,
- 2:14Speaker 4: fair enough. I guess that just means you can't drive
- 2:17Speaker 4: it on a public road. And they're like, yep, can't
- 2:18Speaker 4: do that. I was like fair enough.
- 2:20Speaker 3: And anyway, so we're passionately waiting and as the event
- 2:24Speaker 3: for Broken Hill was coming up, I.
- 2:29Speaker 4: Started receiving countless emails from these influencer agencies asking me
- 2:35Speaker 4: to attend and to produce video content and how much my.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Fee would be and they are real Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 2:41Speaker 4: I get these a lot from different organizations, but this
- 2:44Speaker 4: one was specifically for that launch. They talked about Broken Hill.
- 2:47Speaker 4: They wanted to know what I was going to produce,
- 2:49Speaker 4: how much I was going to charge, And I replied
- 2:51Speaker 4: and said, no, I'm not interested. We already have someone
- 2:54Speaker 4: going to cover it as a journalist. I'm not going
- 2:56Speaker 4: to attend now as well, and I definitely am not
- 2:58Speaker 4: going to accept money to attend.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And so the journalists who attended to Big Clear was
- 3:03Speaker 2: not paid, no, just by byd to be there. They
- 3:06Speaker 2: were paid as a journalist from Currents.
- 3:08Speaker 4: The same way that we would cover any other event
- 3:11Speaker 4: and anyway. I then started getting more emails, and as
- 3:14Speaker 4: the event drew near, I got an email with an
- 3:16Speaker 4: offer for forty thousand dollars to attend this event, and
- 3:19Speaker 4: I'm like, what the fuck is this? So I was like,
- 3:21Speaker 4: all right, that's weird, and I replied again, and I'd
- 3:24Speaker 4: replied like three or four times by this point. They
- 3:26Speaker 4: kept coming from different people and different agencies.
- 3:29Speaker 2: So before that email with the forty grands, did you
- 3:32Speaker 2: get you did get offers of money to be there?
- 3:35Speaker 4: Yeah, they were asking how much I wanted to charge
- 3:37Speaker 4: so anyway, ignored all of those the event went ahead
- 3:40Speaker 4: and didn't think anything of it. I then got in
- 3:44Speaker 4: touch with someone senior at BYD who said, hey, we've
- 3:48Speaker 4: got a car that we can give you. It's a
- 3:49Speaker 4: pre production car and I said, no, dramas, let me
- 3:52Speaker 4: know where I can pick it up. And they go, well,
- 3:53Speaker 4: it's not registered and we don't have eight R compliance yet.
- 3:56Speaker 4: And I'm like, okay, so what does that mean. They go, well,
- 3:58Speaker 4: it needs to be transported there. So our expense car
- 4:01Speaker 4: expense expense. I hired a tow truck and towed the
- 4:03Speaker 4: car from Clayton where it was located, to.
- 4:06Speaker 3: The proven ground.
- 4:07Speaker 4: Unfortunately, we got rained out that day so we couldn't
- 4:10Speaker 4: film anything. So I towed the car back to some
- 4:12Speaker 4: third party supply that BOID was doing business with, and
- 4:15Speaker 4: one or two weeks later, when the car was available again,
- 4:17Speaker 4: I again paid to have the car towed out to
- 4:19Speaker 4: the proving ground and it was picked up, this time
- 4:22Speaker 4: from another aftermarket company that was getting components for it.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Okay, can I just say, can I pull you up
- 4:28Speaker 2: on that? Let me press pause on what that actually is,
- 4:30Speaker 2: because you're on your expense paying for that car to
- 4:34Speaker 2: be transported after you use it to potentially a manufacturer fit.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Out company, very company of something.
- 4:41Speaker 2: It's obviously doing work on this car, and that was
- 4:45Speaker 2: only your dime. Yeah, which interesting.
- 4:47Speaker 4: The car had to go somewhere, so I would have
- 4:48Speaker 4: had to pay to either take it back to wherever
- 4:50Speaker 4: their place is.
- 4:51Speaker 3: Good point, but I was like a bit weird.
- 4:53Speaker 4: But whatever, I'll just do it. So anyway, when we
- 4:55Speaker 4: shot the content, the outcome of it was I thought
- 5:00Speaker 4: the car was fantastic, excellent value for money, great tech,
- 5:03Speaker 4: and I was only limited to being able to drive
- 5:05Speaker 4: it at the proving ground. So we did our off
- 5:09Speaker 4: road review and discovered that it wasn't able to climb
- 5:12Speaker 4: our fairly basic hill climb on our very like soft
- 5:16Speaker 4: off road course, which is what we call it.
- 5:17Speaker 3: It's like a light off road thing.
- 5:19Speaker 4: And it really struggled with rotating its wheels going up
- 5:24Speaker 4: the hill. And I thought that perhaps it could be
- 5:25Speaker 4: talk limited, or perhaps the traction control wasn't quite advanced.
- 5:29Speaker 4: Tried a number of different modes.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, so I was going to say, you did try
- 5:31Speaker 2: the I do laugh at the different modes. Sand. What
- 5:35Speaker 2: is it like? Muddy land? Yeah, muddy land? Sand Land
- 5:39Speaker 2: Kyle Candy Land.
- 5:41Speaker 4: So tried, tried the different modes and didn't really have
- 5:45Speaker 4: much success, and I was like, Yep, no dramas. The
- 5:48Speaker 4: next day we filmed more content, this time a towing video,
- 5:52Speaker 4: and when we did towing with the vehicle hooked up
- 5:55Speaker 4: to the trailer dine, we ended up getting to the
- 5:58Speaker 4: point where we had drained the batter to the point
- 6:00Speaker 4: where it had reached its reserve limit. And one of
- 6:05Speaker 4: the things people don't really understand with plug in hybrids.
- 6:07Speaker 4: If you drive an outland a plug in hybrid, when
- 6:10Speaker 4: it says the battery is empty, the battery isn't actually empty.
- 6:14Speaker 4: It's probably got between zero and twenty percent of capacity
- 6:17Speaker 4: still remaining in there, and it needs to have that
- 6:19Speaker 4: capacity because a lot of these plug in hybrids, and
- 6:21Speaker 4: the shark especially needs electricity to move from a standing
- 6:25Speaker 4: start that the internal combustion engine cannot drive those wheels
- 6:29Speaker 4: directly until it's up to a certain speed.
- 6:32Speaker 2: So those internal combustion engines they kind of act like
- 6:35Speaker 2: generators to feed the battery.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yeah, in the case of the shark, it does so
- 6:39Speaker 4: it's basically charging the battery and its speeds of above
- 6:41Speaker 4: seventy k's an hour, it can directly drive the front axle.
- 6:45Speaker 4: So when we were towing with the trailer dine set
- 6:46Speaker 4: at three killer utons, which is what we do for
- 6:48Speaker 4: every car that we test with that trailer dine, we
- 6:52Speaker 4: found that when the battery got down to that reserve
- 6:53Speaker 4: started slowing from one hundred k's an hour down to
- 6:56Speaker 4: about seventy and no matter how hard you hit the
- 6:58Speaker 4: throttle wouldn't go any faster than seventy. It was basically
- 7:00Speaker 4: fully exhausted and that was as fast as it was
- 7:03Speaker 4: going to go. So anyway, we published all these videos
- 7:06Speaker 4: and then we published follow up videos about why we.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Thought perhaps the thing wasn't working.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Thinking that it could be software related or potentially it
- 7:15Speaker 4: was talk limited because this vehicle doesn't have any stepped gears,
- 7:18Speaker 4: so you are limited to the amount of talk that
- 7:21Speaker 4: you can produce from those motors, and when you're on
- 7:23Speaker 4: an incline and you have like the horizontal force of
- 7:26Speaker 4: gravity acting against the car, it is limited in terms
- 7:29Speaker 4: of where it can go. So anyway, we published follow
- 7:33Speaker 4: up videos and basically after those follow up videos, a
- 7:36Speaker 4: number of funny things happened. So our mate Kudoaks, who's
- 7:38Speaker 4: been on the show before. He published some hilarious videos
- 7:42Speaker 4: of his own where he was quite critical of the
- 7:45Speaker 4: stuff that I had deduced, and he came up with
- 7:48Speaker 4: some ghetto maths on why he pled testing was irrelevant.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Now I did.
- 7:55Speaker 4: A couple of weeks later, I stumbled across these videos.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Someone sent them to me, and I was like, oh, okay,
- 7:59Speaker 4: that's interesting, and I'm like, look, if I'm wrong, happy
- 8:01Speaker 4: to be wrong, happy to say yep, did a bad thing,
- 8:06Speaker 4: We'll fix it. And anyway, I started doing the mats
- 8:09Speaker 4: on my own because both John and I have engineering degrees,
- 8:12Speaker 4: and we both are obviously great engineers, not working in
- 8:14Speaker 4: engineering and haven't worked in engineering.
- 8:16Speaker 2: For He's mostly great, You are not amazing.
- 8:22Speaker 4: So anyway, I started doing all the mats and I'm like,
- 8:25Speaker 4: he's completely muffed all of this stuff up. I think
- 8:27Speaker 4: that's the way that he's viewed the problem is wrong,
- 8:31Speaker 4: and as a result, he's out by factor about one
- 8:34Speaker 4: hundred percent based on what I could tell. So I
- 8:36Speaker 4: actually met up with him today. We shot a couple
- 8:38Speaker 4: of videos. So they're going to go live. Perhaps they've
- 8:41Speaker 4: already gone live, I don't know, But go to the
- 8:43Speaker 4: Auto Expert channel, there's one on his and then there's
- 8:45Speaker 4: going to be one on the Car Expert channel, so
- 8:47Speaker 4: check those out in the interim as well. What had
- 8:49Speaker 4: happened was Bid went back to the proving ground and
- 8:54Speaker 4: it's funny, the proven ground is actually where they shot
- 8:57Speaker 4: the commercial for the Bid Shark.
- 8:59Speaker 2: So can you read this proven ground that you go
- 9:01Speaker 2: to because I always thought that you guys just had
- 9:03Speaker 2: access to it whenever you would be renting it or something,
- 9:06Speaker 2: so obviously can be rented by anyone.
- 9:09Speaker 4: Yeah, so when we're there, we're typically sharing it with
- 9:11Speaker 4: other brands and other people testing new cars and whatever.
- 9:14Speaker 4: But then if they're shooting a commercial, they'll basically book
- 9:17Speaker 4: the place out and then shoot like a proper commercial.
- 9:19Speaker 4: And the funniest part is that in the commercial it
- 9:22Speaker 4: actually traverses the hill, but it goes down the hill.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Yeah, right, like had you have tried to turn around
- 9:28Speaker 2: and given that again. Yeah.
- 9:30Speaker 4: So anyway, BYD came back to the proving ground and
- 9:33Speaker 4: I suspect it was with revised software and they sent
- 9:37Speaker 4: a video to the bid Owners group that showed Facebook
- 9:40Speaker 4: vehicle going up the hill without any problems or like
- 9:43Speaker 4: a little bit of wheel slip.
- 9:44Speaker 3: But no problems.
- 9:45Speaker 2: We presume it's it's BYD he sent that face.
- 9:48Speaker 4: I think they mentioned the cause, so anyway, what they
- 9:52Speaker 4: neglected to mention, And I don't know whether it was
- 9:55Speaker 4: BID that requested this, It wasn't us, And as far
- 9:58Speaker 4: as I could tell, no one had u the proving
- 10:00Speaker 4: ground since we were there with the shark. We came
- 10:03Speaker 4: back two weeks later to review the Prato with the
- 10:06Speaker 4: Prato Kakadu, and I thought it was really odd at
- 10:08Speaker 4: that point BID hadn't sent the video to the owners group.
- 10:11Speaker 4: We got there and I'm like, something has changed here,
- 10:15Speaker 4: and they had basically compacted the hill and put like
- 10:19Speaker 4: a really hard compound on it, which meant that when
- 10:21Speaker 4: I drove up it in the Prado, it was literally
- 10:23Speaker 4: like just going up a driveway. It had no wheel slip.
- 10:26Speaker 4: It just went up without any problems. And I'm like, well,
- 10:29Speaker 4: this is going to look terrible on video because we
- 10:33Speaker 4: went from having quite a struggle on the hill because
- 10:35Speaker 4: it was quite rutted and really good vision to now
- 10:38Speaker 4: having this hill that you could probably walk up. And
- 10:42Speaker 4: so I basically dug the hill open again with the
- 10:44Speaker 4: Prato so that it looked impressive on video and anyway
- 10:48Speaker 4: went on with life. Then when Bid dropped that video,
- 10:51Speaker 4: I'm like, hold up a second, that's a totally different
- 10:54Speaker 4: hill to the one that we tested on. And I thought, look,
- 10:56Speaker 4: if you have changed the software, great, it means it'll
- 10:58Speaker 4: go up there without problems. And I'm going to go
- 11:01Speaker 4: back and test it at some point. But if you
- 11:03Speaker 4: have asked them to compact the hill, what is the
- 11:07Speaker 4: purpose of what you're doing? You know, it's is it
- 11:10Speaker 4: to discredit me? Or is it that I don't understand
- 11:15Speaker 4: it to be honest? And maybe and this is the
- 11:16Speaker 4: other thing, maybe they didn't ask for it to be done.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Maybe this was just something that they've decided to do.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Maybe I hadn't done it for since we've been using
- 11:24Speaker 4: it for two or three years.
- 11:26Speaker 3: So that's why I thought it was just a little
- 11:27Speaker 3: bit weird.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Well, look, I mean it could take somebody going, can
- 11:30Speaker 2: you guys maintain the grounds of this a little bit? Like,
- 11:33Speaker 2: what the what the fuck is going on? This car
- 11:35Speaker 2: is capable of doing such things, but can you at
- 11:38Speaker 2: least like, don't.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I don't know what happened.
- 11:40Speaker 4: So anyway, so I have said already that I would
- 11:44Speaker 4: love to go take the car back again with production
- 11:47Speaker 4: software and test it all one more time.
- 11:49Speaker 2: It's presumably been given several updates.
- 11:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and the other thing just very quickly. That really
- 11:54Speaker 4: annoyed me. When we did our review, I mentioned the
- 11:57Speaker 4: stuff about all the emails I received on influences in
- 12:01Speaker 4: the review. Now, I only did that because we were getting,
- 12:04Speaker 4: I reckon three or four comments a day from people going,
- 12:07Speaker 4: where's your shark review? Are you getting paid by Toyota?
- 12:10Speaker 4: Are you getting paid by Ford to not review it?
- 12:12Speaker 4: Are you getting paid by blah blah blah blah blah.
- 12:14Speaker 3: And I'm like, for fox.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Sake, we're not reviewing it because they haven't given us
- 12:18Speaker 4: a car. I could just materialize a car. So in
- 12:20Speaker 4: the video, I said, hey, the reason we hadn't reviewed
- 12:23Speaker 4: it is because I didn't want to go to Broken Hill,
- 12:25Speaker 4: to some curated place that they've set up to make
- 12:28Speaker 4: the car look good.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But also, you did send a journalist there, yeah, two
- 12:32Speaker 2: Broken Hill, and they would have got car content out
- 12:34Speaker 2: of that and somewhat of a review anyway. But I
- 12:37Speaker 2: guess they just wanted to see your typical review on it.
- 12:40Speaker 4: And from a video standpoint, it is our rule to
- 12:43Speaker 4: just review cars at the proving ground.
- 12:44Speaker 3: That way, they're all the same.
- 12:45Speaker 4: I don't want to go to some different location every
- 12:48Speaker 4: time to have conditions I don't know.
- 12:50Speaker 2: So I mentioned also that would create bias as well.
- 12:53Speaker 4: Ye, so I mentioned in that video about being off
- 12:56Speaker 4: at all this money, and that given the volume of
- 12:59Speaker 4: people that attended, I hadn't noticed anyone except one outlet,
- 13:03Speaker 4: which was car Source, which is a YouTube channel. They
- 13:06Speaker 4: were paid to be there.
- 13:07Speaker 2: And then come to the party and told everyone they
- 13:10Speaker 2: the thing they said in their thing that it's sponsored.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Yep, And look, if you choose to believe what they say, great,
- 13:15Speaker 4: I wouldn't if you're paid to be there. I mean,
- 13:17Speaker 4: of course you're going to say only great things. But
- 13:19Speaker 4: the thing that annoyed me was that when I was
- 13:22Speaker 4: told that because the cars don't have ADR complains, you
- 13:24Speaker 4: can't drive them on a public road. Car Sales drove
- 13:27Speaker 4: the car from Broken Hill to Adelaide on clearly public roads.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Car Source drove the car on public roads. There's shots
- 13:34Speaker 4: of them doing that on their own in the car.
- 13:36Speaker 4: So that kind of annoyed me that I was misled
- 13:40Speaker 4: with that information. So I basically had these people call
- 13:44Speaker 4: me up the day after the review went live, chewing
- 13:48Speaker 4: my ass out about these influencer things, claiming they knew
- 13:52Speaker 4: nothing about it, and I'm like, I don't know if
- 13:54Speaker 4: I believe that, but I mean.
- 13:55Speaker 2: That could very well be the case. However, I will say,
- 13:58Speaker 2: like the the influencer payment thing, would they have that
- 14:04Speaker 2: sort of money to give the like there was a
- 14:06Speaker 2: lot of people at that event. That's a lot of
- 14:09Speaker 2: money to be spending on to get people down. I reckon, like,
- 14:12Speaker 2: you fly generally with these press junkets. You fly people
- 14:15Speaker 2: and you put them up in hotels, and a lot
- 14:17Speaker 2: of these younger influencers just want to fucking want the
- 14:20Speaker 2: content anyway, do you know what I mean.
- 14:23Speaker 4: I'm not the one sending the emails. So so yeah,
- 14:28Speaker 4: that was that was the by d Shark. So yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 4: it's it's an interesting thing because I'm just disappointed that
- 14:35Speaker 4: it turned out the way that it did. We review
- 14:37Speaker 4: every car the same and the funniest thing as well
- 14:41Speaker 4: as I if I did have some inherent bias against
- 14:43Speaker 4: we filmed drag race with my Raptor, wouldn't I just
- 14:46Speaker 4: let the Raptor win the drag.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Race and just go oh slower than a raptor. That's
- 14:50Speaker 3: that done. You know what I mean.
- 14:52Speaker 4: It's just it's just a bit silly when you get
- 14:54Speaker 4: fanboys involved because they're so wetted onto the product they
- 14:57Speaker 4: won't take criticism.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Well, yes, here's here's what I'll say. I think this
- 15:01Speaker 2: audience is an audience that either love the Shark six
- 15:06Speaker 2: or hate the Sharks. The Shark six, I think you're
- 15:09Speaker 2: going to get people who go, oh, bloody, bloody EV
- 15:13Speaker 2: looks like a shitty EV hybrid, bloody Chinese car. Like
- 15:18Speaker 2: You'll get that crowd, and you'll also get families who go, wow,
- 15:22Speaker 2: that's a really nice looking car. Paul said, it's got
- 15:25Speaker 2: good tech. It does look really good. I love the
- 15:27Speaker 2: stuff that's inside that. I love the fact that I
- 15:29Speaker 2: can put my kids in the back of this and
- 15:31Speaker 2: you know, we can go on adventures. Sixty thousand dollars.
- 15:34Speaker 2: That is the big selling point of this car. Sixty
- 15:36Speaker 2: thousand dollars, right, And you get you get people out
- 15:40Speaker 2: in the as we sort of briefly spoken about. You
- 15:43Speaker 2: get people out in the West or whatever who like
- 15:45Speaker 2: put their money on something like this. They're going to
- 15:47Speaker 2: be passionate about it.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Look, and I said something like you know, ninety percent
- 15:51Speaker 4: of people that buy this it will be perfect for Yeah,
- 15:54Speaker 4: if you don't toe much and you don't go off road,
- 15:57Speaker 4: yes much. Yes, this is going to be ideal because
- 15:59Speaker 4: you can basically everything with it.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Here's the thing too, people who do toe and people
- 16:04Speaker 2: who do go off road will not buy this car automatically.
- 16:07Speaker 2: They will not. They've got their things that they're going
- 16:10Speaker 2: to buy.
- 16:11Speaker 3: But they also shouldn't.
- 16:13Speaker 4: The reason I say they shouldn't is because the other
- 16:16Speaker 4: two vehicles in this segment and how inherently different their
- 16:19Speaker 4: drive trains are. So GWM is about to launch the
- 16:22Speaker 4: Cannon Alpha HI four dash T plug in Hybrid EV,
- 16:26Speaker 4: which is basically a plug in hybrid electric version of
- 16:30Speaker 4: the Cannon Alpha. That and the Ford Ranger plug in
- 16:33Speaker 4: Hybrid are both fundamentally different in terms of the way
- 16:36Speaker 4: they operate. So where the Shark has a generator and
- 16:40Speaker 4: two electric motors that have no drive line between them,
- 16:44Speaker 4: both the Cannon and the Ranger have an electric motor
- 16:47Speaker 4: that sandwiched between the engine and the transmission. So the
- 16:51Speaker 4: way that it works is your electric motor is able
- 16:53Speaker 4: to turn independent of the engine if it needs to,
- 16:58Speaker 4: so you can basically use that to drive the car.
- 17:01Speaker 4: And in the case of the Cannon, al for it
- 17:03Speaker 4: has an enormous battery something like thirty seven kilo whatde hours,
- 17:05Speaker 4: which is bigger than the Shark, and almost three times
- 17:08Speaker 4: the size of the Ranger, which has a pretty pathetically
- 17:11Speaker 4: small battery in comparison. Now, the advantage of having the
- 17:16Speaker 4: rest of your drive line being the same is that
- 17:18Speaker 4: you have a gearbox, which means you can multiply talk.
- 17:21Speaker 4: So fuck this knoto is going right through me. So
- 17:25Speaker 4: the advantage of that is that with the Cannon or
- 17:28Speaker 4: the Ranger, if you are making let's say four hundred
- 17:30Speaker 4: meters of talk at the crank, you are basically able
- 17:33Speaker 4: to multiply that through a transmission. You're able to multiply
- 17:37Speaker 4: that through a low range transfer case, and finally a
- 17:40Speaker 4: diff and in the case of a Ranger raptor because
- 17:43Speaker 4: they publish this information, you can have a maximum crawl
- 17:45Speaker 4: ratio of something like sixty to one, which is enormous, right,
- 17:48Speaker 4: which in a Shark you can't because you have no
- 17:50Speaker 4: reduction gear, you have no difflock, you have none of that.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Whereas this GWM not only has a transmission, low range,
- 17:56Speaker 4: has a front and rear diff lock, and it means
- 17:58Speaker 4: you're going to be able to do some pretty seria
- 18:00Speaker 4: off roading. When it comes to towing, you're going to
- 18:02Speaker 4: be able to engine break, which you can't do in
- 18:03Speaker 4: the Shark. So there are a lot of advantages to
- 18:07Speaker 4: having these different types of drive lines. And in the
- 18:09Speaker 4: case of the GWM, we're talking about over three hundred
- 18:13Speaker 4: oh sorry, three hundred kilos of power seven hundred and
- 18:15Speaker 4: fifty meters of talk has a two liter engine instead
- 18:18Speaker 4: of one point five. The range is even bigger again
- 18:20Speaker 4: with a two point three lead vehicle to load capability,
- 18:24Speaker 4: and the big thing with the GWM three and a
- 18:26Speaker 4: half tons towing, which again two and a half for
- 18:29Speaker 4: the Shark.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Yeah, looks good price range. I guess we're presuming it's
- 18:34Speaker 2: going to be similar.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I reckon.
- 18:36Speaker 4: They'll need to have it around the price of a
- 18:38Speaker 4: Shark for them to be competitive. Ford, I think is
- 18:42Speaker 4: probably going to be twenty or thirty thousand dollars more,
- 18:44Speaker 4: And I don't know who would bother buying that in comparison.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it's a completely different product.
- 18:48Speaker 4: Ford has an issue as well, is that they're making
- 18:50Speaker 4: the vehicle in South Africa, which attracts a five percent
- 18:53Speaker 4: import tariff. Oh so automatically you've got a more expensive
- 18:57Speaker 4: proposition there.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I'm looking at the cannon right now.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Not so cool, isn't it. Yeah?
- 19:01Speaker 2: Not so nice looking in the horse pissed yellow. But yeah,
- 19:07Speaker 2: but man, it does look good. It does look good.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Looks good on the inside to.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Big screen all terrain, something looks pretty neat.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Yeah that looks good. Yeah. The tech they are throwing
- 19:19Speaker 2: in these cars now is yeah, it's wild. Yeah, it's wild.
- 19:24Speaker 2: In closing, anything you want to say about the BYD
- 19:26Speaker 2: Shark six, yeah, I think it's a great vehicle. So
- 19:28Speaker 2: me too.
- 19:29Speaker 4: You know, I think that most people that buy them
- 19:31Speaker 4: will be perfectly happy with them. I just think that
- 19:33Speaker 4: you should. And this is the same with any car
- 19:36Speaker 4: ever is test drive it. Make sure it suits your needs.
- 19:39Speaker 4: If you do need to toe, make sure that you
- 19:42Speaker 4: try it out. Telling as well.
- 19:43Speaker 2: That is one thing that I found difficult was I
- 19:45Speaker 2: did try to organize a test drive through BYD and
- 19:49Speaker 2: they weren't offering that.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Have you noticed that I think they've started doing that.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Okay, they've just started doing that. Well, yeah, I tried
- 19:54Speaker 2: to do it myself. Hence way, I went to BYD
- 19:57Speaker 2: Direct and they gave it to me nicely for the weekend.
- 20:00Speaker 2: As you said, most people are going to be completely
- 20:02Speaker 2: happy with this. If they've got it on order, they've
- 20:04Speaker 2: got a right to be excited about. What I will
- 20:06Speaker 2: say is I find it really peculiar that you still
- 20:09Speaker 2: haven't been able to drive and what would you call it?
- 20:12Speaker 2: The road going version?
- 20:14Speaker 3: Look to be honest, I think that they're probably pretty
- 20:16Speaker 3: pissed at.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Me, But surely on that respect, wouldn't they kind of go, fuck,
- 20:22Speaker 2: Paul's just published this out. We've got to get him.
- 20:25Speaker 2: This is a software update. This is because of this,
- 20:27Speaker 2: it's because of this. We've got to get him the
- 20:29Speaker 2: right one. Now, Guys, like, let's not dick around, take
- 20:32Speaker 2: a look at ourselves and go, how the hell did
- 20:34Speaker 2: this happen? Why did someone give him a pre production
- 20:36Speaker 2: car and let him put it under a stress test
- 20:39Speaker 2: when clearly it wasn't meant to. Let's rectify it, face
- 20:43Speaker 2: it head on and give you the road going car. Yeah.
- 20:45Speaker 4: Look, I'm happy to test it as well. So hopefully
- 20:48Speaker 4: someone does get in touch at some point and then
- 20:50Speaker 4: we can get on with things, and then.
- 20:53Speaker 2: We can talk about other stuff, yeah apart from this.
- 20:56Speaker 4: Yeah, so anyway, Yeah, I thought people that enjoy that
- 20:59Speaker 4: just a little short episode. But yeah, the ins and
- 21:02Speaker 4: outs of the car industry, ain't he.
- 21:05Speaker 2: The old bitchiness that goes on between you guys is unbelievable.
- 21:10Speaker 3: So make sure you check out the video with kidoags
- 21:12Speaker 3: as well.
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we got to get kidoaks on. Actually it's for
- 21:16Speaker 2: an appearance. Yes, thank you for listening to everyone. Please
- 21:20Speaker 2: like rate review, contact at the drivershow dot com dot
- 21:23Speaker 2: you also on Insta where we put a whole bunch
- 21:25Speaker 2: of VIDs and big ups to our good mates that
- 21:29Speaker 2: it Omitsu, makers of nanotailored oil.
- 21:34Speaker 3: You've worked with ITMSU before at their launch event, right,
- 21:37Speaker 3: I did?
- 21:37Speaker 2: I did, mate, I went to their launch event. I
- 21:40Speaker 2: am seated. Actually, your boy m Seeded hosted the whole thing,
- 21:43Speaker 2: very nice, delicious Japanese restaurant. But I'm really impressed. I'm
- 21:48Speaker 2: really impressed. These guys have been leaders in oil innovation
- 21:51Speaker 2: for over a century. You know, they're the ones trusted
- 21:53Speaker 2: by Toyota and Masda to deliver precision engineered oils straight
- 21:59Speaker 2: from the factory, and now now they are bringing the
- 22:02Speaker 2: same expertise to ossie drivers.
- 22:05Speaker 3: What stood out to you the most.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Well, a lot did actually, Pavla, thank you for asking
- 22:09Speaker 2: that non prompted question, and it was their nanotailored oil,
- 22:14Speaker 2: Which is why we're here, because this stuff is next level.
- 22:17Speaker 2: And now they don't just make generic who haa products. No, no,
- 22:20Speaker 2: not these guys. Every formula is designed with purpose. For example,
- 22:25Speaker 2: let me tell you something. The IFG three, Oh, this
- 22:29Speaker 2: stuff is perfect for city driving. This is what you
- 22:32Speaker 2: want for city driving. This is your stop start traffic,
- 22:35Speaker 2: the stuff that puts stress on your engine. But then
- 22:38Speaker 2: there's the IFG seven this is the stuff for your
- 22:41Speaker 2: beast pavlay the high performance vehicles. Seven layers of protection
- 22:47Speaker 2: seven I sound a bit New Zealand seven layers of protection. Anyway,
- 22:51Speaker 2: they've got nano cleansing tech. It stops oil breakdown and
- 22:54Speaker 2: it even just sorts it in the harshest condition. So
- 22:58Speaker 2: if you're driving a Japanese car, the IFG five, oh,
- 23:02Speaker 2: that stuff is build for precision engineered engines. It's offering
- 23:06Speaker 2: five layers of protection to keep your engine clean and
- 23:10Speaker 2: running smoothly.
- 23:11Speaker 3: So that sounds like a lot of attention to detail.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Oh so much detail so much I nearly forgot it all.
- 23:17Speaker 2: But the I OFG seven isn't just oil. Just know that,
- 23:20Speaker 2: because it's like giving your engine a custom suit of armor,
- 23:24Speaker 2: like a little massage as well. It doesn't just protect
- 23:27Speaker 2: your engine, it optimizes performance. If you're into keeping your
- 23:31Speaker 2: car in its absolute best nick possible, this is the
- 23:35Speaker 2: oil you want, and now it's easy to get too.
- 23:38Speaker 2: It is very easy. Are you ready for the longest
- 23:40Speaker 2: website I've ever had to read?
- 23:42Speaker 3: Out?
- 23:42Speaker 2: Here we go au dot Inamitsu slash no no slash
- 23:46Speaker 2: tailored slash oil dot Com. I said to it amits
