- 0:04Speaker 1: ESPN's Jorge Castillo joining us right now. Jorge, thank you
- 0:07Speaker 1: for the time. Nice article. Just put out their twenty
- 0:09Speaker 1: twenty six MLB trade deadline ideal moves for the Yankees
- 0:13Speaker 1: and the Mets. This is a great way to get
- 0:15Speaker 1: these two fan bases excited on different ends of the spectrum.
- 0:18Speaker 1: So let's start with the Yankees. Can you lay out
- 0:20Speaker 1: what your ideal plan was for them, because I think
- 0:23Speaker 1: they'd be very excited talking about Yanks fans.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Man, it's the way to get them excited or
- 0:28Speaker 2: pissed at you one or the other. You know, it's uh,
- 0:32Speaker 2: you know, got fancy to get angry nowadays with you know,
- 0:35Speaker 2: all the rumors and stuff, but you know, trying to
- 0:37Speaker 2: feed the beast. I mean, at this point of the year,
- 0:40Speaker 2: we're just trying to gather as much intel as we can.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Obviously you know on the team side, agent side, you know,
- 0:46Speaker 2: they want to share what they want to share at
- 0:47Speaker 2: this point, right there are moves that are going to
- 0:49Speaker 2: happen between now and Monday that are just like out
- 0:52Speaker 2: of left field. And then the mead for Connell, the
- 0:54Speaker 2: early deal came out of nowhere and that was a
- 0:56Speaker 2: huge deal. So based on what I gathered, what I've talked,
- 0:59Speaker 2: you know, talking to people. Mason Miller was number one. Again,
- 1:04Speaker 2: this is ideal, right, I think that the Yankees looking
- 1:07Speaker 2: to upgrade their bullpend. Their pullpen has been one of
- 1:09Speaker 2: the best in baseball since June first, the best in
- 1:11Speaker 2: baseball by most metrics. You know, you got Fernando Cruz,
- 1:15Speaker 2: you got Brent Hedrick, Paul Blackburn as that bridge to
- 1:18Speaker 2: David Bednar. Now how do you improve that? I mean,
- 1:21Speaker 2: Mason Miller is the best reliever, best closer in baseball
- 1:24Speaker 2: and the best closer and I don't know, maybe he's
- 1:26Speaker 2: since Marianno Rivera at this point. So I think just
- 1:29Speaker 2: getting a guy like that and having Bednard moved to
- 1:31Speaker 2: the eighth thinning, then you move all those other guys
- 1:33Speaker 2: down and the pecking order makes that bullpen all the more,
- 1:37Speaker 2: all the better. And Mason Miller obviously has three years
- 1:39Speaker 2: of control after this year. And Brian Cashman one of
- 1:42Speaker 2: his things in recent years, he loves acquiring guys at
- 1:45Speaker 2: the deadline with control beyond that season. He does not
- 1:48Speaker 2: go for rentals often. Met Rosario was the rare one
- 1:51Speaker 2: off last year. But if you look at the guys
- 1:52Speaker 2: he got last year, Camille the Ball, David Bednard, Jake Byrd,
- 1:55Speaker 2: Ryan McMahon, Jose Alberiro. Those guys all had control. Jash
- 1:58Speaker 2: Chisham a couple of years ago, Mark Later, Junior a
- 2:00Speaker 2: couple of years ago. So he prefers guys to the control,
- 2:03Speaker 2: which leads me to number two, a guy who does
- 2:05Speaker 2: not have control beyond this year, Ryan Jeffers. And it's
- 2:08Speaker 2: very obvious that the Yankees need a catcher. They've had
- 2:12Speaker 2: among them and the White Sox I think had the
- 2:14Speaker 2: worst production behind the plate offensively. Austin Wells has been
- 2:17Speaker 2: a huge disappointment. It started off with him and Jesse Ascara.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Now it's been Ali Sanchez behind the plate alongside Wells
- 2:24Speaker 2: against lefties and then in your right handed hitting catcher,
- 2:27Speaker 2: Ryan Jeffers has made sense forever since the offseason I've
- 2:30Speaker 2: been writing it. He makes a ton of sense for them.
- 2:33Speaker 2: The Twins say that I want to sell, They're going
- 2:35Speaker 2: for it, but Ryan, they can do both. They can
- 2:38Speaker 2: trade Ryan Jeffers and add to the bullpen, which has
- 2:41Speaker 2: been a huge problem for the Twins this season. Ryan
- 2:44Speaker 2: Jeffers has been one of the best catchers when he's
- 2:46Speaker 2: been healthy this year, and the Twins have the most
- 2:48Speaker 2: run scored in the American League and they haven't had
- 2:50Speaker 2: Ryan Jeffers for most of the seasons, so maybe they think, hey,
- 2:53Speaker 2: we can trade him and add to the bullpen and
- 2:55Speaker 2: then lastly Zach that put dak Netto in. There can
- 2:58Speaker 2: be any sort of impact right handed bat. The Yankees
- 3:01Speaker 2: are going through it right now, offensively without Aaron Judge obviously,
- 3:03Speaker 2: but also without young Carlos Steon and recently Cody Bellinger.
- 3:07Speaker 2: It can be a right handed hitting outfielder. It could
- 3:09Speaker 2: be a short stop like a zach Netto, who you know,
- 3:11Speaker 2: would cost a lot. You guys are just talking about
- 3:14Speaker 2: the Angels. Maybe the Angels are more willing to trade
- 3:15Speaker 2: controllable guys like a zach Netto, but that price would
- 3:20Speaker 2: be steep. But I think the Yankees are looking for
- 3:21Speaker 2: another right handed hitting bat beyond the catcher.
- 3:26Speaker 3: All right, all right, let's start with this. First of all,
- 3:28Speaker 3: Bran Cashman usually doesn't make Hue trades in the middle
- 3:30Speaker 3: of the season, So okay, fine, let's say he does.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Mason Miller one hundred percent makes sense. But you want
- 3:35Speaker 3: to know why Yankee fans are going to be pissed
- 3:37Speaker 3: off at you because Anthony Vuolpi and Austin Wells are
- 3:40Speaker 3: the future of the Yankees and you have them losing
- 3:42Speaker 3: their jobs. So that is why the Yankee fans are
- 3:45Speaker 3: going to be pissed off you. Not because these trades
- 3:47Speaker 3: all make sense, but because those guys have been the
- 3:50Speaker 3: basically the two guys that the Yankees have talked about
- 3:53Speaker 3: for years and years being the next Core. Yes, have
- 3:56Speaker 3: they performed, no, But at the end of the day,
- 3:58Speaker 3: you're trying to get rid of them out of jobs. Hey,
- 4:00Speaker 3: So therefore, Yankee fans are gonna hate you for life.
- 4:03Speaker 2: And man, I'm sensitive. This is one thing about like
- 4:05Speaker 2: being reporting nowadays, and you know this week with the
- 4:08Speaker 2: trade rumors and all that You're sensitives are the fact,
- 4:11Speaker 2: I know it's a joking matter about both and Wells,
- 4:13Speaker 2: but you are sensitive the fact these guys have lives.
- 4:15Speaker 2: You know, they have to upend their lives. They have
- 4:17Speaker 2: families and stuff, and you're throwing these guys in rumors
- 4:19Speaker 2: like they're just like, you know, not people. So that
- 4:24Speaker 2: is the top part of the job in my opinion.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Maybe I sympathize little too much in that regard, but hey,
- 4:30Speaker 2: the Yankees. Wells has been disappointing both He's actually been
- 4:33Speaker 2: pretty good in his role against lefties this year, and
- 4:35Speaker 2: he's been pretty good defensively since he got you know,
- 4:36Speaker 2: since he came up and off the injured lists and
- 4:39Speaker 2: from the minors. So maybe the Yankees don't view that
- 4:42Speaker 2: as a huge issue right now, but I think it's
- 4:44Speaker 2: an area that they could upgreen.
- 4:46Speaker 4: How aggressive can the Yankees actually be if they truly
- 4:50Speaker 4: believe the imaging that they get or don't get or
- 4:53Speaker 4: we don't know what's happening with Judge, if Judge, if
- 4:56Speaker 4: they believe on August first, a Judge is not coming back,
- 5:01Speaker 4: how do they make a super aggressive move to win
- 5:05Speaker 4: the World Series.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's that's a huge, just a million dollar question
- 5:10Speaker 2: right now. Is Aaron Judge coming back? And the Yankees
- 5:12Speaker 2: keep saying that they're they're hopeful that he will come back,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and if he does come back, this is a window
- 5:18Speaker 2: for the Yankees. Garrett Cole is awesome coming back from TJ.
- 5:22Speaker 2: I don't remember a guy looking that good that soon
- 5:24Speaker 2: coming off TJ. He's he's looking like Garrett Cole right now.
- 5:28Speaker 2: And he's in his mid thirties and Aaron Judge is
- 5:30Speaker 2: thirty four years old, and if he does come back,
- 5:33Speaker 2: how big is this window for the Yankees with this
- 5:35Speaker 2: scroup but two feature Hall of famers. I think they
- 5:39Speaker 2: have to maximize this window. Now the Yankees will say, hey,
- 5:42Speaker 2: our window is always open with the New York Yankees,
- 5:44Speaker 2: but it's not very often you have one of the best,
- 5:46Speaker 2: you know, I don't know if Garrett Cole at his
- 5:48Speaker 2: peak when he's at the top of his game, top five,
- 5:50Speaker 2: top teachers, top ten pitchers in baseball, Aaron Judge best
- 5:54Speaker 2: hitter in baseball when he's going. So I think you
- 5:57Speaker 2: have to be a little aggressive. This is not a
- 5:59Speaker 2: typical year in my opinion. You don't know if it's
- 6:00Speaker 2: gonna be baseball next year. On top of that, so
- 6:03Speaker 2: if there is no baseball next year, Aaron just thirty
- 6:05Speaker 2: six years old. On the other side, Garrett Cole is
- 6:07Speaker 2: what thirty seven, thirty eight, So I think the Yankees
- 6:10Speaker 2: this could be a unique year with the Yankees say hey,
- 6:14Speaker 2: let's go for let's really go for it. I mean, now,
- 6:16Speaker 2: Brian Cashman made the barred seven guys at the traded
- 6:19Speaker 2: one last year. They weren't huge names, but he made them.
- 6:21Speaker 2: He really changed that roster, that bullpen, the bench. This year,
- 6:24Speaker 2: I think they can go a little bigger. Now. The
- 6:26Speaker 2: question is are they willing to trade George Lombard Junior.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I don't think they are, which means that maybe Mason
- 6:31Speaker 2: Miller doesn't come to the Bronx because if they're not
- 6:33Speaker 2: willing to trade George Lombar Junior, I bet you some
- 6:35Speaker 2: of the teams out there are willing to trade their
- 6:37Speaker 2: top prospects for a guy like that.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Well, that leads to that leads to my question is
- 6:43Speaker 3: do the Yankees have enough to do all these things
- 6:45Speaker 3: that you're talking about. Spencer Jones hasn't been the player
- 6:48Speaker 3: that the Yankees hyped him up to, be right, What
- 6:50Speaker 3: other pieces do they have If they're not willing to
- 6:53Speaker 3: trade a Lombard for these pieces, do they have enough
- 6:56Speaker 3: in their farm system. I know everyone hypes up the
- 6:59Speaker 3: Yankees prospect. He's a Yankee prospect. He's got to be great.
- 7:02Speaker 3: They're one of the best teams at it. But do
- 7:04Speaker 3: they actually have enough players in the minor leagues to
- 7:06Speaker 3: get all these moves done? Because it's a lot of moves,
- 7:08Speaker 3: and it's impact moves that you listed here.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think you can just look at it
- 7:13Speaker 2: as the minor league guys, just the prospects the Yankees
- 7:15Speaker 2: are willing to trade from their major league roster. Uh,
- 7:18Speaker 2: and that includes out me. You mentioned Specer Jones, He's
- 7:20Speaker 2: right now in the big league. Hit the three round
- 7:21Speaker 2: hormonn last time against the White Sox. Jason the Menga
- 7:24Speaker 2: is still Yeah, they did lose. That was that was
- 7:27Speaker 2: a tough loss the way that ended Jason's Themengas is
- 7:31Speaker 2: still young. It seems like he's been around forever, but
- 7:33Speaker 2: he hasn't been and he has injuries. You know, He's
- 7:34Speaker 2: had to start, stop and start a lot, you know
- 7:37Speaker 2: in his career between injuries and starting the year in
- 7:39Speaker 2: the minor leagues and killing it there in Tripa coming up,
- 7:41Speaker 2: crashing into the wall, hurting his shoulder, going back on
- 7:44Speaker 2: the il. So those are two guys. Uh, There's obviously
- 7:47Speaker 2: the guys in the minor in the leagues, but it's
- 7:48Speaker 2: also hey, Will Warren, Ryan Weathers.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Could those guys be on the move because starting pitching
- 7:55Speaker 2: is always this time of the year, everyone's looking for
- 7:58Speaker 2: starting pitching. Those guys are too control rollable starting pitchers.
- 8:01Speaker 2: The Yankees have a surplus on paper of starting pitching.
- 8:05Speaker 2: That rotation is when healthy, when Carloswoodin comes back, If
- 8:08Speaker 2: and when he comes back, there's not going to be
- 8:10Speaker 2: room for all those guys. So at some point, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 2: Brian Cashman, I imagine it's thinking, okay, maybe we trade
- 8:16Speaker 2: from this to make it, you know, upgrade, whether it's
- 8:20Speaker 2: behind the plate and the bullpen, shortstop, wherever it may be.
- 8:23Speaker 2: So I think you have to add that. You have
- 8:25Speaker 2: to add that they do have some major few major
- 8:27Speaker 2: leaguers who they can add in trades that aren't really
- 8:30Speaker 2: part of the plans here for you know, the remainder
- 8:32Speaker 2: of the season, because if Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge
- 8:35Speaker 2: come back, Spencer Jones is not on the major league roster,
- 8:37Speaker 2: Jason Demingez is not playing very much if you add
- 8:40Speaker 2: John Carlos stand even less. So so I think there
- 8:43Speaker 2: are moves to be you know, there are pieces to
- 8:44Speaker 2: move from the big league roster.
- 8:47Speaker 4: There would be pieces to move if not everybody was hurt.
- 8:52Speaker 4: Don't they need to address that the trade deadline, the
- 8:55Speaker 4: Cody Bellinger injury, because that's on top of the Aaron
- 8:58Speaker 4: Judge and now you have these quote unquote star prospects
- 9:02Speaker 4: from the minor leagues kind of being mid in the
- 9:04Speaker 4: big leagues.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Don't they have to address that.
- 9:06Speaker 4: Don't they have to get like a Dalton var Show
- 9:08Speaker 4: to be able to run around in center field. For
- 9:11Speaker 4: I get it, he's left handed, but there's not a
- 9:13Speaker 4: lot of right handed hitting. Don't they need that to
- 9:15Speaker 4: solidify what they lost in Cody and have lost since
- 9:19Speaker 4: essentially may in Judge.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I think for that third one where I put
- 9:24Speaker 2: in Netto, I think you could put Taylor Ward there
- 9:26Speaker 2: or someone like him, or Lane Thomas or you know.
- 9:29Speaker 2: I know those aren't the biggest names, but they would
- 9:31Speaker 2: help and they would help Bridge this time without Judge
- 9:35Speaker 2: and Bellinger and Sting. I do think that's a possibility.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Maybe it is on top of someone else who could
- 9:41Speaker 2: play shortstop. I mean, again, that's a lot. I think
- 9:44Speaker 2: they go for one or the other. There are options
- 9:46Speaker 2: out there on the market, whether it's controllable guys rentals,
- 9:50Speaker 2: that's something that they could do. But yeah, the offense
- 9:54Speaker 2: is going through it right now just because of those injuries.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It's kind of all that wants here. But the Yankees
- 9:59Speaker 2: do seem comp that those guys are going to come back.
- 10:01Speaker 2: So how how willing are you to give up guys
- 10:04Speaker 2: that can help you out in the future, you know,
- 10:06Speaker 2: for these next four to six weeks, you know, two
- 10:09Speaker 2: months to bridge you to the two October That that
- 10:13Speaker 2: is a question. I don't know the answer too, frankly.
- 10:15Speaker 2: I just know the areas that they're looking at and
- 10:18Speaker 2: the potential people that they're that are available, both on
- 10:21Speaker 2: the Yankee side and in the market.
- 10:23Speaker 4: All right, well, what about the more exciting team, the
- 10:26Speaker 4: team that's been not so good in New York, the Mets.
- 10:29Speaker 4: What is the wish list that you see or you
- 10:32Speaker 4: see happening or should happen for the Mets to get better?
- 10:36Speaker 4: But also you know reset here at the trade deadline.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so the thing with the Mets is, all right,
- 10:42Speaker 2: they're gonna sell. Obviously, they're one of the few declared
- 10:45Speaker 2: sellers right now, like for sure, one hundred percent. We're
- 10:48Speaker 2: not messing around. We're not going to pretend we're selling.
- 10:50Speaker 2: The question the thing is with the Mets is they're
- 10:52Speaker 2: trying to win next year. This is the team that
- 10:54Speaker 2: still has WONSTA and Francisco Lodoor and you know, aj
- 10:58Speaker 2: Ewing and Carson, Benjeb really good as rookies in the outfield.
- 11:01Speaker 2: This year, you got Nolan McLain. They're trying to win
- 11:04Speaker 2: next year. Steve Cohen is not trying to point on
- 11:06Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven. Yeah, he's not gonna do that. He's
- 11:09Speaker 2: trying to win. So you got to balance that. Now,
- 11:11Speaker 2: the wishless, the wishless. I came up with number one.
- 11:16Speaker 2: You unload all those guys are about to be free
- 11:18Speaker 2: agents because they're not gonna be on the team next year.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Most likely starts with Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr. Who
- 11:24Speaker 2: came back off the ange list. He's hit two on runs,
- 11:25Speaker 2: hasn't done much else but right handed hitting, the guy
- 11:28Speaker 2: who could play center field. Guys always want that. The
- 11:31Speaker 2: Mets Pop might have to pay that down a little bit.
- 11:33Speaker 2: He's not gonna get much in terms of prospects. You
- 11:35Speaker 2: trade him, you trade play Homes, You trade Tyrol Taylor,
- 11:38Speaker 2: who's been hot at the plate as of late since
- 11:41Speaker 2: coming off the injured list. You trade you know, off
- 11:45Speaker 2: the top of my head, I'm forgetting already who all
- 11:46Speaker 2: the free agents that they have, but they oh the
- 11:48Speaker 2: two lefties Brooks rarely Aj Minter. And then you got
- 11:52Speaker 2: play Holmes. To me, who's like their best trade piece.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Clay Holmes is a guy who, you know, before he
- 11:57Speaker 2: took that comebacker from Spencer Jones, City Field had a
- 12:01Speaker 2: two three nine ERA and nine starts. He was really good.
- 12:04Speaker 2: He was coming into his own and his second year back,
- 12:07Speaker 2: you know, as a starting pitcher after being you know,
- 12:09Speaker 2: All Star reliever with the Yankees. So I think he's
- 12:12Speaker 2: someone who's gonna have a huge He has a huge market,
- 12:15Speaker 2: So I think getting you know, trading him and converting
- 12:19Speaker 2: that into whatever, you know, whatever prospects you can is imperative.
- 12:22Speaker 2: The number two on my list, you know, getting a
- 12:24Speaker 2: big return for two relievers, two controllable relievers. Walstar Brads
- 12:27Speaker 2: Labond has been really good this season. He's also thirty
- 12:30Speaker 2: six years old, like low key, like you don't really
- 12:32Speaker 2: think about Brazneman being thirty sixties. You feel like he
- 12:35Speaker 2: just came on the scene because he debuted at thirty
- 12:37Speaker 2: two years old. But he's controllable for three years beyond
- 12:40Speaker 2: this one. And then you got Luke Weaver, who here
- 12:43Speaker 2: in New York. Both sides know him very well. He's
- 12:45Speaker 2: you know, came on this came on on the scene,
- 12:47Speaker 2: burst onto the scene with the Yankees as a reliever
- 12:49Speaker 2: two years ago. He's a you know, he can He's
- 12:52Speaker 2: obviously shown he can handle his market, he can handle
- 12:55Speaker 2: big time games. You know, he's in the first in
- 12:58Speaker 2: the first year of a twenty two million dollar contract.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I think the Mets can get quite a bit for him.
- 13:03Speaker 2: He had a scoreless inning, scoreless gamestreak that went for
- 13:06Speaker 2: like two months. This year, he's been really really good
- 13:08Speaker 2: for them. Again, going back to what I said originally
- 13:11Speaker 2: with the Mets, he could also help you on twenty
- 13:13Speaker 2: twenty seven. But you know, bullpens can be volatile. Relievers
- 13:16Speaker 2: can be volatile. Though Weaver has really established himself as
- 13:19Speaker 2: one of the best here in the last couple of years.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And then number three. You know, something that stuck out
- 13:23Speaker 2: to me last Friday when David Stearns talked to the media, was, hey,
- 13:28Speaker 2: we need to start in pitching for next year because
- 13:31Speaker 2: you know they're gonna trade Friday Peralta, They're gonna trade
- 13:33Speaker 2: play homes. Joanna tong is not how they had good
- 13:35Speaker 2: year in Triple A. Zak Thorton has looked really good.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Christian Scott, who looked really good. Nolan mcclaying, seanm and
- 13:41Speaker 2: Ny has actually had a little bounce back here recently.
- 13:43Speaker 2: But they do need to go get a starter or
- 13:45Speaker 2: two and why not try to do that? Now, you
- 13:47Speaker 2: know a guy like a Red Detmers, who who's controllable
- 13:50Speaker 2: beyond this year, who's under the hood numbers are a
- 13:52Speaker 2: lot better than his surface numbers. Obviously, that will cost
- 13:55Speaker 2: you something. Maybe you know, you trade from the big
- 13:57Speaker 2: league team, you trade down the miners, you make some
- 13:59Speaker 2: kind of package for that. I do think we Detmers
- 14:02Speaker 2: is available. So someone like that for the future for
- 14:05Speaker 2: twenty twenty seven and beyond, I think would be on
- 14:08Speaker 2: the Mets wish lists. But I know for the first
- 14:11Speaker 2: two items, I think they're going to trade all those guys.
- 14:14Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be a very busy four or
- 14:17Speaker 2: five days here for the Mets.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Wow, I mean this is a lot. David Turns, I
- 14:21Speaker 3: hope he has the unlimited plan on his cell phone
- 14:24Speaker 3: with all this going on.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Right he has the rollover minutes.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Does he? Because he hasn't been doing anything offseason, so
- 14:30Speaker 3: now he's rolling it over to now because it was
- 14:33Speaker 3: so inactive this offseason. When I look at this list
- 14:36Speaker 3: it all again. All these almost make too much sense.
- 14:39Speaker 3: That's why none of them will happen. But I think
- 14:41Speaker 3: they should trade Luise Robert back to Chicago because you
- 14:44Speaker 3: know he said there's no fans. Well, if you watch
- 14:46Speaker 3: the Yankee White Sox game last night, there was forty
- 14:48Speaker 3: thousand fans in the stand, So I think they would
- 14:50Speaker 3: be perfect. Send Luis Roberts asks back to Chicago. Let
- 14:53Speaker 3: him get the proper introduction, which would be hopefully boot
- 14:56Speaker 3: out of the stadium, and then you know, whatever happens,
- 14:59Speaker 3: and they in that way, the White Sox could send
- 15:01Speaker 3: back nothing and the Mets could pay all his salary.
- 15:04Speaker 3: He could go back and sit on the bench.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Are you gonna send back Liise Acuna, who hasn't been
- 15:09Speaker 2: very good?
- 15:10Speaker 3: Yeah, you guys, just flip them back.
- 15:12Speaker 2: You can put them right back a middle infielder. Here
- 15:15Speaker 2: you go.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I agreed.
- 15:16Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 15:16Speaker 3: I have a little bitterness towards Louise Robert after he
- 15:19Speaker 3: said the comments about White Sox fans, and I thought
- 15:21Speaker 3: were completely unnecessary. So you know, he yeah, he hasn't
- 15:24Speaker 3: been very good with the White Sox, and he hasn't
- 15:26Speaker 3: been very good with the Mets.
- 15:27Speaker 2: So yeah, and he's a guy who you know, he
- 15:31Speaker 2: has all the tools in the world, he just hasn't
- 15:32Speaker 2: put put it together about five years. So it's you know,
- 15:35Speaker 2: it's interesting that that that's an interesting case. He's a
- 15:38Speaker 2: twenty million dollars club option for next year that won't
- 15:40Speaker 2: get picked up. He's gonna be a free agent this offseason.
- 15:43Speaker 2: And like I said, you know, Louise Robert, he had
- 15:45Speaker 2: his back injury. He missed a bunch of time. He's
- 15:47Speaker 2: a guy who's not producing. So why would a team
- 15:49Speaker 2: trade for him? Because he hits right handed and he
- 15:50Speaker 2: plays center field. You know that those are rare commodities
- 15:54Speaker 2: at this point. You know, ahead of the trade deadline,
- 15:57Speaker 2: teams are always looking for right hand and hitting guys
- 15:59Speaker 2: who have in the past, and he's done it in
- 16:01Speaker 2: the past.
- 16:02Speaker 4: He has to play though the keyword there is play.
- 16:04Speaker 4: So who is the most valuable piece? Is it Luke Weaver?
- 16:08Speaker 4: Is it a team that's willing to say? I think
- 16:10Speaker 4: the Mets broke Freddy Peralta and we can fix him.
- 16:13Speaker 4: Who's the most valuable piece?
- 16:16Speaker 2: I think it's between Clay Holmes and Luke Weaver. I
- 16:18Speaker 2: think Clay Holmes looking really I mean just watching him.
- 16:21Speaker 2: I got to watch most of his starts in person
- 16:24Speaker 2: before he went down. He looked really good, in command,
- 16:27Speaker 2: in control. He throws hard, he's a ground ball guy,
- 16:30Speaker 2: but he's also getting his strikeouts. He's for me. Everyone
- 16:34Speaker 2: I talked to, great clubhouse guy. Everyone loves Clay Holmes.
- 16:38Speaker 2: No one says a bad word about him. And then
- 16:41Speaker 2: Luke Weaver because you know it's a reliever versus the starter.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But Luke Weaver has controlled beyond this year and he's
- 16:47Speaker 2: now on year three of being a really good reliever
- 16:50Speaker 2: at the major league level, one of the best. So
- 16:52Speaker 2: I think it's between those two. And you mentioned that
- 16:53Speaker 2: Freddie Peralta thing. I do think there are teams out
- 16:56Speaker 2: there that think, not only could we fix Freddy Peralta,
- 16:58Speaker 2: but like just get him out of New York and
- 17:00Speaker 2: like just get him away from what was going on there.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Maybe a fresh start the Mets infield defense to start
- 17:08Speaker 2: the season. That Bobachett, who was not good over there
- 17:11Speaker 2: to start the year, who has been better recently than
- 17:13Speaker 2: they had. Francisco and Dora go down, so they had
- 17:15Speaker 2: to move Boba Cheft to short. Marcus Simon has regressed
- 17:19Speaker 2: terribly at second base this year, and at first base
- 17:22Speaker 2: it was supposed to be Polongco. He lasted about two
- 17:23Speaker 2: games and then there was a rotation there at first
- 17:25Speaker 2: base of guys. Infield defense wasn't very good. I'll field
- 17:28Speaker 2: defense has been good with with ing in bench, so
- 17:30Speaker 2: maybe teams just thinking, hey, with a little better infield defense,
- 17:34Speaker 2: Parolta will be maybe I don't know, pepper the strike
- 17:36Speaker 2: zone a little bit more or whatever, get a little
- 17:38Speaker 2: more confidence. But yeah, it's been a terrible year for
- 17:40Speaker 2: Fredick Peralta. He's about a five v R. Maybe it
- 17:43Speaker 2: changes scenery. This is a guy, in my opinion, he
- 17:47Speaker 2: you know, he was sort of advertised as like an
- 17:49Speaker 2: ace type when he got traded over here. He's never
- 17:51Speaker 2: been that he's been. He's sort of a number three
- 17:53Speaker 2: to me on like a really good team, a World
- 17:56Speaker 2: Series level team, And I think that's how the team
- 17:59Speaker 2: is probably the view one at this point. He's had
- 18:01Speaker 2: two All Stars seasons, been really good last year, had
- 18:03Speaker 2: a great year of two seven ERA. But to me,
- 18:05Speaker 2: he's not like a top tier tier guy, you know,
- 18:07Speaker 2: like elite. He's like a mid rotation guy. And I
- 18:10Speaker 2: think a team there are teams out there thirsting for
- 18:13Speaker 2: starting pitching. The Chicago Cubs come to mind. Actually, the
- 18:17Speaker 2: Mets already traded the clubs are starting pitching David petersoner
- 18:19Speaker 2: of this year, and David Peterson has been pretty good
- 18:22Speaker 2: for the Cubs compared to what he was with the Mets,
- 18:24Speaker 2: So maybe they relinked there and figure it out. But
- 18:27Speaker 2: I think Freddy Perolta could help a team down this stretch.
- 18:30Speaker 2: And Freddy Pearlt is another guy, great club boss guy.
- 18:33Speaker 2: No one said a bad word about him. Everyone seems
- 18:35Speaker 2: to love him, so I don't think that's gonna be
- 18:36Speaker 2: a shwiddle.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Uh Jorge, you know who also thought Freddy Parolta was
- 18:41Speaker 4: elite the Mets. Who's the Mets? The Mets this offseason.
- 18:46Speaker 4: They thought he was the guy that I saw make
- 18:49Speaker 4: the next progression. So here's here's I mean. David Stearns
- 18:53Speaker 4: isn't afraid of the only thing he's afraid of his
- 18:55Speaker 4: long term contracts. Is David sterns afraid. And give me
- 19:00Speaker 4: a percentage of the chance that Lin Door gets moved.
- 19:05Speaker 2: I would put it at zero point zero zero zero
- 19:08Speaker 2: zero one percent chance. I'm not gonna sit here and
- 19:13Speaker 2: say something's not gonna happen, because, like I said, like
- 19:15Speaker 2: we can see stuff out of left field here, I
- 19:18Speaker 2: might get a tweet from Jeff right now it says
- 19:21Speaker 2: something happened, as like blows my mind, right. So I'm
- 19:24Speaker 2: not gonna say no that there's no chance. I just
- 19:28Speaker 2: don't from what I've been told, it's not gonna happen.
- 19:30Speaker 2: So things changed, But I don't expect Francisco Indoor to
- 19:34Speaker 2: get traded. And just frankly, I think it's hard to
- 19:37Speaker 2: trade that kind of player, making that kind of money,
- 19:40Speaker 2: that kind of contract in the middle of the season
- 19:42Speaker 2: with so much uncertainty next year about you know, is
- 19:44Speaker 2: there gonna be a capus. They're not gonna be a cat.
- 19:46Speaker 2: It's gonna be baseball next year. So I think that's
- 19:49Speaker 2: more of an off season. If the Mets ultimately decide, hey,
- 19:51Speaker 2: we want to trade the Francisco Indoor, that to me
- 19:53Speaker 2: is more of an off season. Both.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Thank you, Thank you for putting this to bed, because
- 19:58Speaker 3: every time the Mets come up, it's oh, Lindor might
- 20:00Speaker 3: be Lindor's not getting traded in the middle of the season.
- 20:03Speaker 2: It's anything else. It's way too calm, so like you'd
- 20:07Speaker 2: be selling him like thirty cents on the dollar. He's
- 20:09Speaker 2: not having a he was hurt. He hasn't been Francisco
- 20:13Speaker 2: as a blake. He's looked like Francisco Lindor, But for
- 20:15Speaker 2: most of the year he has not been Francisco Lindor
- 20:17Speaker 2: when he's been healthy. So why would you trade him now?
- 20:20Speaker 2: It just doesn't make sense. And on top of that,
- 20:22Speaker 2: you're trying to win in twenty twenty seven. Like I
- 20:25Speaker 2: didn't understand it either, like the whole like trade Lindor,
- 20:28Speaker 2: this's the whole Indoor and Soto thing and whatnot. That's
- 20:31Speaker 2: not the reason why they're not winning this year, you know.
- 20:34Speaker 2: So I think they're going to keep him and maybe
- 20:36Speaker 2: down the line and something happens.
- 20:38Speaker 3: All right, One more I want to know about a
- 20:40Speaker 3: couple of war players. Actually one one is the other
- 20:43Speaker 3: Francisco Francisco Alvarez. He's not going anywhere, correct, and then Bore.
- 20:47Speaker 3: They're not going to trade bo. They can't trade Bo
- 20:49Speaker 3: right now because you mentioned the thirty cents on the dollar.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well with Boba, shed is interesting. He hasn't no
- 20:56Speaker 2: trade class. So if he doesn't want to go anywhere,
- 20:58Speaker 2: he won't go anywhere. On top of that, if he
- 21:00Speaker 2: gets traded. He actually was, so actually that's not if
- 21:03Speaker 2: he gets traded. So Bobachet's basically on a three He's
- 21:07Speaker 2: on a three year contract that are essentially it's essentially
- 21:09Speaker 2: three one year contracts. So he's gonna he can opt
- 21:11Speaker 2: out after this year, and if he opts out, he
- 21:13Speaker 2: gets five million dollars, which is like a rare thing
- 21:16Speaker 2: I haven't really seen before with a contract. His situation
- 21:19Speaker 2: is weird, his contract's weird. His production. He's been really
- 21:22Speaker 2: good since June. The beginning of June, he's more like
- 21:26Speaker 2: the Bolbaschet we're used to seeing. He's been really good
- 21:28Speaker 2: again with the runners in scoring position. He's the guy
- 21:30Speaker 2: who's up there hacking. He's not gonna walk very much,
- 21:33Speaker 2: but he's been better since the beginning of June. He's
- 21:35Speaker 2: been really good at third base the last couple of
- 21:37Speaker 2: months as well. Whether a team season as a third
- 21:40Speaker 2: baseman or second basement in the future, we'll see. I
- 21:44Speaker 2: don't expect Bobaschet to get moved. He's another guy who
- 21:47Speaker 2: could help him out in twenty twenty seven if he
- 21:49Speaker 2: does off back in which I think is the expectation
- 21:51Speaker 2: right now, but I could be wrong. And then when
- 21:53Speaker 2: Francisco Alvareza, he's another dude who's like hitting really well
- 21:56Speaker 2: as a late like he's been. He has close to
- 21:58Speaker 2: an eight hundred ops. There aren't that many catchers with
- 22:01Speaker 2: his numbers this season. He's a guy obviously a top
- 22:05Speaker 2: prospect when it came up injuries like I think he's
- 22:08Speaker 2: had like every wrist, hand, thumb injury in the book
- 22:11Speaker 2: the last three years, stopping and starting kDa meniscus tear.
- 22:14Speaker 2: This season came back from that, it's been really good.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I do wonder if the Mets say, hey, you know what,
- 22:20Speaker 2: maybe we can turn this into some value elsewhere. We
- 22:23Speaker 2: could maybe you know, whether it's starting pitching or another
- 22:27Speaker 2: area that we could use. But you know, catching is tough.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Catching is hard to find catchers that can hit, and
- 22:32Speaker 2: this guy can hit. If he stays healthy, he's gonna hit. Now,
- 22:35Speaker 2: whether he's gonna be good enough behind the plate receiving
- 22:38Speaker 2: pitch calling, we'll see about that. The Mets have had
- 22:44Speaker 2: their issues with him. Last year. He was sent to
- 22:46Speaker 2: the minors partly because of that he wasn't hitting, but
- 22:48Speaker 2: on top of that, defensively and behind the plate receiving.
- 22:51Speaker 2: He just wasn't there. So Francisco Alvarest and me is
- 22:54Speaker 2: a super talented guy who could have some value out
- 22:56Speaker 2: in the market. Ultimately, I don't think he gets traded.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Luis Terrenz is also getting a lot of love, a
- 23:01Speaker 2: lot of teams gre interested in him. He's signed two
- 23:04Speaker 2: year extension, making about four and a half million in
- 23:05Speaker 2: the next two years. I believe it is off the
- 23:07Speaker 2: top of my head. And he is a defense first guy,
- 23:11Speaker 2: another guy great clubhouse guy. And I don't know, maybe
- 23:15Speaker 2: they the Mets do move one of them. I mean,
- 23:16Speaker 2: it's not with the out of the realm of possibility.
- 23:18Speaker 2: The Mets are listening on to everybody. You're listening on
- 23:21Speaker 2: everybody not named Juan Sodo, Carson, benj aj Ewing, Nolan McLain,
- 23:26Speaker 2: Christian Scott and Frances Belondor. That's my understanding. Everyone else,
- 23:31Speaker 2: we're listening. You got offers. We want to hear him.
- 23:35Speaker 3: The Mets have the best clubhouse in the world. Every
- 23:36Speaker 3: guy's a great clubhouse guy. But all yours rumors of
- 23:39Speaker 3: a bad clubhouse, right, so something, something doesn't add up there,
- 23:43Speaker 3: because that's all you've heard.
- 23:44Speaker 5: But you've you've made it a great club, great clubhouse.
- 23:48Speaker 5: I'm just I'm telling you, Sean and I to the list.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Nothing that everyone like yeah, so like they you know,
- 23:55Speaker 5: it's it's all this focus has been on the door
- 23:57Speaker 5: and Sodo. You know obviously just you guys have been
- 24:01Speaker 5: in club Eric and Ada, you guys have been in
- 24:02Speaker 5: club asses. Man Like when you lose, yeah, no one
- 24:06Speaker 5: is happy. I mean I don't know, Like it's the Mets.
- 24:09Speaker 2: They were expected to win this year, that World Series expectations.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Jan Soto gets injured like a week into the season
- 24:14Speaker 2: and Francisco and Doorro gets injured the day he comes
- 24:16Speaker 2: back at that twelve game losing streaking between why would
- 24:19Speaker 2: the vibes be good, I'd be wondering why if they
- 24:23Speaker 2: were good, I'd be like, wait, what's going on here?
- 24:24Speaker 2: You guys should be all pissed off. Yeah, the vibes
- 24:26Speaker 2: weren't great. It was. It was terrible there for and
- 24:29Speaker 2: it's been terrible all season and they know it.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Hey, last one, I'll bring one fan question in here,
- 24:34Speaker 1: just throwing out a trade idea, and even if you
- 24:36Speaker 1: don't specifically agree with the idea, just to playoff where
- 24:40Speaker 1: the Mets heads are at Bridger in the chat, Mets
- 24:43Speaker 1: were really interested in Bubba Chandler in the offseason. I
- 24:46Speaker 1: could see, although I don't know where he found that,
- 24:48Speaker 1: because I don't know why the Pirates would have had
- 24:51Speaker 1: someone like that available, But anyway, I could see a
- 24:53Speaker 1: package of Weaver or Brasabon and prospects for Chandler, who's
- 24:57Speaker 1: having a down year.
- 24:57Speaker 2: What do you think, I don't think so. I think
- 25:01Speaker 2: the Pirates. I think the Pirates. You get Bubba Junin's
- 25:04Speaker 2: too valuable, and that's their thing right now? Is that
- 25:06Speaker 2: rotation now? They definitely do. They're they're looking for help
- 25:09Speaker 2: in the bullpen. That's one thousand percent, and they need
- 25:12Speaker 2: it because that rotation is very real and that offense,
- 25:16Speaker 2: you know, those additions they've made during the off season.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Ryan o'harn't been allowed. Very real that they're they're hitting
- 25:23Speaker 2: as Merlin Valdez. I don't know that dude looks like
- 25:26Speaker 2: two thousand and one albut pooholes like it's crazy how
- 25:29Speaker 2: good he's been. But they need some bullpen help. I
- 25:32Speaker 2: don't think it's Bubba Chandler though, I mean, that's no,
- 25:35Speaker 2: that's my too, Steep. I get, I get.
- 25:39Speaker 1: You know, you might look at a Connolly early moving
- 25:42Speaker 1: over in a trade for Curtis Meet and go, oh,
- 25:44Speaker 1: maybe controllable pitching, and hey, if you can get some
- 25:46Speaker 1: controllable young pitching, go for it.
- 25:48Speaker 2: But that I agree too, Steep.
- 25:50Speaker 1: But I like where their head's at, because the Pirates
- 25:52Speaker 1: should be calling about both of those relievers. Their bullpen
- 25:54Speaker 1: has been a disaster all season long.
- 25:56Speaker 2: This was great. Another thing, but yeah, one more thing,
- 25:59Speaker 2: another thing like Luke Weaver is too expensive for the Pirates.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I mean, let's just be honest. He's making eleven million
- 26:04Speaker 2: next year. You think the Pirate's going to pay that.
- 26:07Speaker 2: That's not really their thing, So maybe a Brosibondo.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Although the Pirates just discovered something. If you spend like
- 26:13Speaker 1: a little bit of money, you might make the playoffs
- 26:14Speaker 1: and make way more money.
- 26:16Speaker 2: It might happen this year.
- 26:17Speaker 1: It was the first time that they I'm not saying
- 26:19Speaker 1: the whole organization discovered it, but getting permission to spend
- 26:22Speaker 1: a little bitty extra money this past offseason has gone
- 26:26Speaker 1: a long way their contenders suddenly. So we're hey, good stuff, man,
- 26:29Speaker 1: great to catch up.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Thanks for the time, No problem, For guys, thanks for
- 26:32Speaker 2: having me on
