- 0:34Speaker 1: Eagles and all that, well, first of all, shame on
- 0:37Speaker 1: you for wanting football over something more important than exactly
- 0:41Speaker 1: wish and legacy. But also we're recording this you see
- 0:45Speaker 1: on Saturday the twenty first.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah, we are.
- 0:48Speaker 1: I think we're going to work over the holidays. What
- 0:50Speaker 1: you think of dumb?
- 0:51Speaker 2: Are you crazy?
- 0:52Speaker 1: And also Eagle's probably one, So what kind of reaction.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Do you what?
- 0:56Speaker 2: Yeah, we could have recorded this two weeks ago. Here's
- 0:58Speaker 2: your analysis on one.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Yeah, anywoy, let us handle the programming decision. You just
- 1:05Speaker 1: sit back, you just check down and shut up and listen.
- 1:07Speaker 1: But before we get into a touching tribute, it's time
- 1:10Speaker 1: for a word from our presenting sponsor for this whole episode.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Our good friends at Anthem Life Insurance. Are you about
- 1:17Speaker 1: to croak because you're so sickly and unhealthy? Well, too late,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Anthem has no way to help you. You're screwed. But
- 1:24Speaker 1: you know, if you're healthy, Tony, right, there are options.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, if you're twenty years old with no pre existing
- 1:29Speaker 2: health conditions, then Anthem is the perfect fit for you.

- 1:40Speaker 1: a month and you get all the base of mind
- 1:42Speaker 1: you need. You know, you may go broke, and you
- 1:45Speaker 1: may be out of a home, but at least you'll
- 1:47Speaker 1: know that Anthem is there for you, and that's all
- 1:49Speaker 1: that matters, right.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Tony, absolutely Anthem.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Anyway, on that touching note, it's time to look back
- 1:57Speaker 1: on all the luminaries we've lost in the twenty twenty
- 2:00Speaker 1: four So let's go ahead and play that somber music
- 2:06Speaker 1: in Memoriam twenty twenty four. And to begin in Memoriam
- 2:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty four segment, the man who always added lead
- 2:17Speaker 1: off position, Tony Ricky Anderson. Look at him just sliding
- 2:23Speaker 1: in right in time. Just yeah, and here we are
- 2:27Speaker 1: recording on Saturday, December twenty. First we just get the
- 2:31Speaker 1: news right on time. Yeah, always showed that speed sliding
- 2:35Speaker 1: in just under the deadline, you know, literally a deadline
- 2:39Speaker 1: in this case, Tony, but the area is and you know, Tony,
- 2:44Speaker 1: he also he stole a space, yeah, from someone else
- 2:47Speaker 1: who we could be talking about right now. I mean
- 2:49Speaker 1: there are other people that we could have been talking about,
- 2:53Speaker 1: like Quincy Jones, James Earl Jones, Yarna Jones has died,
- 3:00Speaker 1: but nope, that spot goes to Ricky Henderson, just sliding in.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's really his final steal when you'll think about it, Tony,
- 3:10Speaker 1: one more steel for the stolen based leader. Stealing this
- 3:13Speaker 1: spot just so great.
- 3:15Speaker 2: So touching.
- 3:17Speaker 1: And now we go to another well luminary kind of
- 3:21Speaker 1: that we lost this year O J. Simpson. You know, Tony,
- 3:25Speaker 1: we always say what makes a running back great elusiveness,
- 3:32Speaker 1: And no running back will ever be as elusive as
- 3:36Speaker 1: OJ will. You know, escaped defensive lineman OPD from prosecution.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Just an amazing record across the board, isn't that right, Dony?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Of course, if OJ didn't have that mobility, that escapability,
- 3:52Speaker 2: if it was like you know, Eli Manning killing people,
- 3:55Speaker 2: Eli Manning would still be in jail.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Great perspective there, Tony in the gank you yeah, because
- 4:02Speaker 1: you know, you think about it, like Barry Sanders and
- 4:04Speaker 1: Walter Payton were great rushers for like eight nine years.
- 4:07Speaker 1: OJ did it for like forty He.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Was like fifty years. Yeah, yeah, exactly, all right.
- 4:13Speaker 1: So we move on to our next luminary, Willie Mays.
- 4:18Speaker 1: And you know, I gotta be honest, Tony, I'm surprised
- 4:21Speaker 1: to see him on this list because I thought Willy
- 4:22Speaker 1: Mays died like twenty years ago or something.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah. I hadn't heard anything about him since like, you know,
- 4:28Speaker 2: nineteen eighty six or something.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Yeah, And you know, I gotta blame his publicist there
- 4:33Speaker 1: or something.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Yeah, what are they doing? I didn't know he was alive.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Publicists died to at some point, because you know, I
- 4:39Speaker 1: picked up the paper and it said Willie May is dead.
- 4:42Speaker 1: And the first thing I did, I looked through the
- 4:44Speaker 1: paper to see what year it was. You know, who
- 4:45Speaker 1: was president? Was it Bill Clinton? Was it Ronald Bregen?
- 4:49Speaker 2: You know now that I think of it every year
- 4:51Speaker 2: when they do the end memoriam at the Oscars, they
- 4:54Speaker 2: should do us still alive Memoriam too, like, hey, these
- 4:57Speaker 2: people are still alive.
- 4:58Speaker 1: It would be helpful. Tone, yeah, like you know, just
- 5:01Speaker 1: hey Clint Eastwood still alive? You know, is Clint Eastwood
- 5:05Speaker 1: still alive?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Yeah? Actually I got to look it up. Hold on,
- 5:09Speaker 2: go look that up is hold on Clint east Yeah, yeah,
- 5:13Speaker 2: he's alive.
- 5:14Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's move on to another tremendous athlete
- 5:17Speaker 1: and personality we lost this year, of course, Bill Walton.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know, there's so much we could say
- 5:22Speaker 1: about his basketball career. But of course the biggest impact
- 5:26Speaker 1: was in commentating on Pack twelve games because prior to
- 5:29Speaker 1: that they totally basically unwatchable. You know, you know, nobody
- 5:33Speaker 1: was tuning in for like Washington State versus you know,
- 5:37Speaker 1: I can't even name it.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I can't even name it. Not that's only one I
- 5:39Speaker 2: know is you know Washington State.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So great is you'd be watching this game which was
- 5:43Speaker 1: so boring, but totally get to hear this wisdom talking
- 5:47Speaker 1: about like the space time continuum, anything to take your
- 5:50Speaker 1: mind off of what you were watching. There, you see,
- 5:53Speaker 1: he understood the last thing anybody wanted to do was
- 5:56Speaker 1: watch Pack twelve past.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Absolutely, you know, he what he would do.
- 5:59Speaker 1: You know, it'd go smoke a ball before the game.
- 6:01Speaker 1: You know, he understood how to make it in the
- 6:03Speaker 1: right head space, you know, how to make it so
- 6:06Speaker 1: you could actually tolerate it.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Wait, Tony, I hear some barking. Is that your dog
- 6:10Speaker 1: in the background there?
- 6:11Speaker 2: I apologize, Just give me give me a second here, Angelo.
- 6:15Speaker 2: We're talking about dead people over here on this episode.
- 6:18Speaker 2: Show some respect. Okay. If you keep going like that,
- 6:21Speaker 2: back to the pound with you. Sorry again.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Now to another important name we lost
- 6:29Speaker 1: this year, Apollo Creed. Now you may be saying to yourself,
- 6:35Speaker 1: I thought Apollo Creed died in nineteen eighty six at
- 6:38Speaker 1: the hands of Ivan Dragel. You'll see that was the movie.
- 6:43Speaker 1: You'll see that was played by an actor. Okay, so
- 6:48Speaker 1: the actor went on. He didn't die in the ring,
- 6:51Speaker 1: although it was very convincing, Tony, and you know, very haunting,
- 6:55Speaker 1: but he actually went on and lived many more times.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And uh, you know, first of all, he did after
- 7:04Speaker 1: after training, Rocky, didn't he you know, Tony, what else
- 7:07Speaker 1: did he do? He fought the alien, right.
- 7:09Speaker 2: Yeah, and the predator. He fought the predator. You know,
- 7:12Speaker 2: he lost that too. You know, he died that one too.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Oh and also you know he died facing the alligator
- 7:19Speaker 1: when he was caddying for you know, true, but you
- 7:23Speaker 1: know he was totally fearless. We got to give him that.
- 7:26Speaker 1: He he died many times. I mean, you know, for
- 7:29Speaker 1: all we know, Tony, he may not be dead right now.
- 7:32Speaker 1: He may still be going.
- 7:34Speaker 2: This could be another movie death.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Actually, why don't we just put an asterisk next to
- 7:38Speaker 1: his name good call, just in case he comes back.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Let's just put a pin in that one. Okay, Now
- 7:44Speaker 1: to another name on this list, what are the great
- 7:47Speaker 1: faces of golf? Chi Chi Rodriguez. Now, I guess people
- 7:52Speaker 1: could say, oh, well, he he never won a major.
- 7:54Speaker 1: He was never a Sarona golfer.
- 7:57Speaker 2: He was you know, Jack Nicholson.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he was never a Jack Nicholson. But you know
- 8:03Speaker 1: he was the first golfer to realize you could use
- 8:06Speaker 1: a golf club as a sword, which must have really
- 8:10Speaker 1: intimidated the other feetball groundbreaking of course, you know, that
- 8:14Speaker 1: would send ratings through the roof. You know, before Woods,
- 8:17Speaker 1: the one driving ratings was chee Chie Rodriguez. You know, yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 1: you know what, he doesn't get enough credit for is
- 8:24Speaker 1: starting Chee Chee's salsa. That's the same thing, right, Yeah, No.
- 8:30Speaker 3: Chichie Rodriguez had nothing to do with chie cheese salsa.
- 8:34Speaker 3: What do you know?
- 8:35Speaker 1: You know here we are trying to honor a man's legacy.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Yeah, we're trying to do something somebody.
- 8:40Speaker 1: I wish you were in a memorial segment we're doing
- 8:42Speaker 1: right now.
- 8:42Speaker 2: But you know what, nobody wants to even acknowledge him,
- 8:45Speaker 2: So don't put him in.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly after we kill you, you're not getting into
- 8:48Speaker 1: this segment. Yeah, well, now, due just one of the
- 8:52Speaker 1: great greatest legends ever we lost, Tony. Of course we're
- 8:55Speaker 1: talking about Pete Rose. Course we could sit here and
- 8:59Speaker 1: talk to you about all this man accomplished. But you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: there's one thing Tony that bothers me that people never
- 9:04Speaker 1: seem to say when they're talking about Beete Rose.
- 9:07Speaker 2: And you know what that is, right, of course, I
- 9:09Speaker 2: know what it is, his fabulous, terrific boll haircut.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Before you know, before nineteen seventy seven seventy eight, nobody
- 9:18Speaker 1: thought to put a bowl on their head and cut it.
- 9:20Speaker 1: All of a sudden, bit Rose comes along. Bull haircuts
- 9:23Speaker 1: everywhere everywhere, yeah. Absolutely. I've never shared this memory on
- 9:28Speaker 1: air before, but you know, when I came out of
- 9:32Speaker 1: my mother's womb and I was delivered, I remembered loooking
- 9:36Speaker 1: up with the doctor and seeing.
- 9:38Speaker 2: That he had a ball haircut, and stuck with you forever.
- 9:42Speaker 1: I knew I was in great hands.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Wow.
- 9:44Speaker 1: If the hit king and then had the same haircut,
- 9:47Speaker 1: you were in good hands. I had the same haircut. Yep,
- 9:50Speaker 1: I was in good hands.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Wow, that's so beautiful and powerful.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Wow, so powerful.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you for sharing.
- 9:57Speaker 1: In fact, to this day, I will only see doctors
- 10:00Speaker 1: who have bowl haircuts.
- 10:02Speaker 2: It's yeah, who else can you trust somebody that spends
- 10:04Speaker 2: seven hours at a salon?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Exactly? You can't. No, No, I want my doctor just
- 10:09Speaker 1: going throwing the bowl on the head and being out.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And what a touching tribute to Pete Rose right there
- 10:17Speaker 2: there you.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Go, And now to the man who actually died on
- 10:20Speaker 1: the same day as Beete Rose, as we so lovingly
- 10:22Speaker 1: covered it, we did that. You should totally go back
- 10:25Speaker 1: and listen.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Go back and re listen, m Dumbo and Tony.
- 10:30Speaker 1: We always say the measure of every great historical figure
- 10:34Speaker 1: is did you have a great catchphrase? Of course when
- 10:37Speaker 1: you go look in the pothon on of great quotes
- 10:39Speaker 1: like give me liberty, give me death, Ben Franklin, Right,
- 10:44Speaker 1: you know, ask not what your country can do for you,
- 10:48Speaker 1: but what you got to do for your country, yep, Blincoln.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And then of course who wants to sex? M? Dumbo?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Right? Yea, so impactful.
- 10:58Speaker 1: And you know, I gotta say, this must be a
- 11:00Speaker 1: tough time for whoever did sex Mdumbo because you know, oh, Tony, wait,
- 11:07Speaker 1: Tony again, it's the dog Angelo. Maybe a dog wanted
- 11:12Speaker 1: to sex Mudumbo? Is that what's going on?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Tony? You know Matumbo did have a very long, humpable leg,
- 11:17Speaker 2: you know, so that's his way of eulogizing Matumbo.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, well we'll let that box.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, good boy, Angelo, good boy.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Let's move on here. Oh you know a kind of name.
- 11:30Speaker 1: This is not the sports Tony, But we did lose
- 11:34Speaker 1: a great actress, miss Terry God just yea beautiful talented
- 11:40Speaker 1: But you know, Tony, it must be said. You know,
- 11:42Speaker 1: she was in the movie mister mom And when you
- 11:45Speaker 1: look at all the kind of you know, gender stuff
- 11:48Speaker 1: going on that ye now, we got to look back
- 11:50Speaker 1: at that being the moment where that's where it started.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Michael Keaton to be the mom and she went out.
- 11:57Speaker 2: And she was the dad going out working.
- 12:00Speaker 1: Since then and ever since then, Tony, it's just been
- 12:03Speaker 1: you know, chaos.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And you know, now that I think about it. She
- 12:06Speaker 2: was also on the other the Tutsie too. Oh yeah,
- 12:11Speaker 2: you remember that one though, the woman, the woman dressing
- 12:16Speaker 2: up like the man. Yeah, you know.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Another No, it was Dustin Hoffman, a man trussed as
- 12:23Speaker 3: a woman.
- 12:24Speaker 1: You know, here we are trying to eulogize the beautiful
- 12:28Speaker 1: carry car and you come along and you interrupt.
- 12:32Speaker 2: You're just unbelievable. I'm going to dress you up as
- 12:34Speaker 2: a dead person.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to terry your throat out.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. Also, as a side note, another person that
- 12:44Speaker 2: we could do was still alive. Is the Dustin Hoffman
- 12:47Speaker 2: guy too? Yeah, hey, still alive? Is he still alive?
- 12:52Speaker 2: And you sure? I don't know, you know, let me
- 12:55Speaker 2: see Dustin. Yeah he's alive.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Oh okay, so that's good.
- 13:00Speaker 2: So it's good.
- 13:01Speaker 1: He's good for you, Austin Hoffman, if you keeping track,
- 13:05Speaker 1: keeping track there, Okay, another name on this list has
- 13:09Speaker 1: to be mentioned. We lost Richard Simmons and you know,
- 13:14Speaker 1: we got to really thank Richard Simmons for what.
- 13:17Speaker 2: He did for our family personally.
- 13:20Speaker 1: I ag reader, right, you know, yeah, this woman was
- 13:23Speaker 1: so unattractive, horrible, such just an absolute cow.
- 13:29Speaker 2: You know, it's like something, you know, out of the
- 13:32Speaker 2: ninth level of hell, you know, yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I mean, honestly, I can't even think about her right
- 13:37Speaker 1: now without wanting to vomit.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Horrible.
- 13:40Speaker 1: But Richard Simmons came along. Oh yeah, and you know
- 13:43Speaker 1: she went on that that deal a meal, don't you remember. Yeah,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and before she lost like what two hundred.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Two thousand, two two hundred hundred. Yeah, still unattractive, unattractive,
- 13:58Speaker 2: but much less horrible. When it was Christmas time, I
- 14:01Speaker 2: could be in the same house.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a tough squeeze still, but better than before,
- 14:08Speaker 1: better than before.
- 14:09Speaker 2: And that's all. Thanks all, thanks to who Richichid Simmons.
- 14:13Speaker 1: There you go, and now do a final name on
- 14:16Speaker 1: the list. Let's go back to sports. Of course, we
- 14:19Speaker 1: lost the great Fernando Valenzuela and you know Tony, great
- 14:26Speaker 1: Dodgers pitcher. But you had a bit of an incident
- 14:30Speaker 1: in the nineteen eighties with Fananilla Alnzuela. Why don't you
- 14:34Speaker 1: tell the people.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I'll never forget this. You know, years ago,
- 14:38Speaker 2: my dad took me to a Burger King for lunch
- 14:42Speaker 2: and he said, hold on, just wait in line. I'm
- 14:43Speaker 2: gonna go use the bathroom. And wait a minute. That
- 14:46Speaker 2: guy that came out was that Fernando Valenzuela and the
- 14:49Speaker 2: Dodgers were in town to play the Phillies. I said, oh,
- 14:51Speaker 2: my god, I think it is, but my dad just
- 14:54Speaker 2: had to go to the bathroom. And then he came
- 14:56Speaker 2: out so upset and discussed. He said, oh my god,
- 14:59Speaker 2: it's don't like holy hell in there. Fernando Vealnezuela didn't
- 15:03Speaker 2: flush the toilet. I can't use that. So of course,
- 15:06Speaker 2: naturally we chased the guy down in the parking lot,
- 15:09Speaker 2: beat the shit out of him and I said, few,
- 15:11Speaker 2: Fernando Vealnezuela, and we were pounding on him, and the
- 15:14Speaker 2: guy said, what are you talking about. My name's Joe,
- 15:17Speaker 2: who's Fernando, And that's when we both realized, oh my god,
- 15:21Speaker 2: we made a horrible mistake. Of course, Fernando Venezuela would
- 15:25Speaker 2: never do something like that, and you know, when we
- 15:28Speaker 2: got home, we were like, oh, we sure that wasn't Fernando.
- 15:31Speaker 2: But we turned on the TV and there was Fernando
- 15:34Speaker 2: pitching a complete game shutout. So we said, Nope, that
- 15:36Speaker 2: definitely wasn't him because we fractured that guy's arm for sure.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Just such a beautiful story and a tribute to Fernando
- 15:46Speaker 1: Valenzuela and Tony A perfect way to wrap up our
- 15:50Speaker 1: in Memoriam twenty twenty four, Just so terrific. Of course,
- 15:56Speaker 1: we want to thank our sponsor, Anthem Life, and Charlotte.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Kidd me someone who's not a good fit for Anthem
- 16:06Speaker 2: because he's gonna be dead soon.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Someone i'd like to treat like corrections. Take Fernando Valenzuela exactly.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Why what do you want? You said? We lost Apollo
- 16:16Speaker 2: Creed for all we know.
- 16:19Speaker 1: I mean maybe maybe not, who knows.
- 16:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a character played by the actor Carl Weathers.
- 16:26Speaker 3: It's totally disrespectful not to call him by his name.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Oh you're right, then, I'll call you by your name,
- 16:34Speaker 1: douche head.
- 16:35Speaker 3: You are going to be like Apollo Creed dead. Oh wait,
- 16:41Speaker 3: he's still talking. Tony, What you said the golfer's name
- 16:44Speaker 3: was Jack Nicholson. Yeah, bro, Yes, so again that's the
- 16:49Speaker 3: name of the actor. The golfer is Jack Nicholas.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well you know there's a name for your
- 16:55Speaker 1: social life, Jack Off.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Yeah, your name should be Jack Penis List. Oh what
- 17:04Speaker 2: a great way to close out this episode. And I yeah, hey,
- 17:08Speaker 2: don't forget visit the Merchan store. Go buy up all
- 17:11Speaker 2: the merg Go buy all the Merger review of the
- 17:14Speaker 2: show and leave the best reviews five stars and donate.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Great job as always, same to you, Paullie. Another flawless show.
- 17:24Speaker 1: We'll see your paper next year.
- 17:26Speaker 2: See your
