- 1:52Speaker 1: You guys, It's time to laugh. I know I've talked
- 1:55Speaker 1: a lot about it, but I feel like with everything
- 1:57Speaker 1: going on, people are like, I can't even think about laughing.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm too nervous. Well, now you can. This is going
- 2:04Speaker 1: to be a fun, nonpolitical show to celebrate the fun
- 2:08Speaker 1: that brings juicy scoopers together from all walks of life.
- 2:14Speaker 1: and sexuality and thoughts of opinions and everything that just
- 2:19Speaker 1: makes us all come together and love me, Heather MacDonald.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Because this Friday, I'm going to be doing a live
- 2:26Speaker 1: standup show with the hilarious Julie Goldman. And that is
- 2:29Speaker 1: at 7.30 at the Irvine Improv. Then I've got two
- 2:33Speaker 1: shows for you to choose from on Saturday with Julie
- 2:36Speaker 1: of us making you pee in your pants, get yourself
- 2:39Speaker 1: an ab workout, bring anybody you want. You don't have
- 2:43Speaker 1: to worry. No one's going to be offended. They're just
- 2:46Speaker 1: going to laugh. It is a little edgy. And that
- 2:49Speaker 1: is at 7.30 and 9.30 this Saturday. And then Sunday
- 2:53Speaker 1: is the live Juicy Scoop. That is where I have
- 2:56Speaker 1: special guests. I've got Brandi and Julie. I've also got
- 2:59Speaker 1: Kate Casey. You know her. our cute blonde from Reality
- 3:03Speaker 1: Life with Kate Casey. She is going to be part
- 3:05Speaker 1: of the show. There are going to be questions. It
- 3:08Speaker 1: is going to be what nothing is off the table.
- 3:11Speaker 1: You can ask me about anything that has happened on
- 3:13Speaker 1: Juicy Scoop in the last 10 years or in my life,
- 3:16Speaker 1: which is a long time. We are going to have
- 3:18Speaker 1: special guests, surprise guests that you will die over. That
- 3:22Speaker 1: is at 7 p.m. on Sunday night. And like I said,
- 3:25Speaker 1: this is not going to be recorded and put on
- 3:27Speaker 1: a Patreon or anything like that. It's not going to
- 3:29Speaker 1: be streamed. I know some of you are mad about it.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So if you are in the area. Also, I just
- 3:34Speaker 1: found out that the schools in Orange County are off
- 3:38Speaker 1: on Monday, November 11th, okay? That is Veterans Day. And
- 3:43Speaker 1: they have it free. So you guys, you can go
- 3:45Speaker 1: with your girlies, have your fun, have some cocktails, get
- 3:49Speaker 1: an Uber or Lyft, and you can sleep in. You
- 3:54Speaker 1: don't have to be running around making. But it's also
- 3:56Speaker 1: an earlier show. Also, if you're part of the meet
- 4:00Speaker 1: and greets, that is going to be before the show
- 4:04Speaker 1: on Sunday and it will be after the show on
- 4:07Speaker 1: Friday and it will be before and after based on
- 4:12Speaker 1: what show you go to for Saturday. But if you
- 4:15Speaker 1: miss one, like we're going to work with you. If
- 4:18Speaker 1: you have the meet and greets, you're going to be
- 4:19Speaker 1: able to meet me. Okay. So like if you miss
- 4:23Speaker 1: the one for the first show, then you can come
- 4:25Speaker 1: to the middle part in between the two shows, it'll
- 4:27Speaker 1: all work out. Don't worry about it. Get those tickets.
- 4:30Speaker 1: There are still tickets available. And show me the love
- 4:35Speaker 1: of Juicy Scoop in this country. Okay, there we go.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I know a lot of people have been like, Heather,
- 4:43Speaker 1: you know, the thing that we really care most about
- 4:46Speaker 1: is what is going on with Peanut the squirrel. And
- 4:50Speaker 1: there has been more that has come out. It was
- 4:53Speaker 1: unlikely that Peanut had rabies in the first place. I
- 4:57Speaker 1: found it a little bit more. Okay. So first of all, peanut,
- 4:59Speaker 1: I found it more. Peanut was a bottle fed squirrel.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And then they put him out in the wild and
- 5:06Speaker 1: he couldn't survive. And so then this couple got him,
- 5:11Speaker 1: made him an Instagram star. And also part of it
- 5:16Speaker 1: was they had like other animal rescue things going on.
- 5:19Speaker 1: And that's where I guess the raccoon was also part
- 5:22Speaker 1: of their thing. As a couple, they did some risque
- 5:25Speaker 1: social media. I don't know if they were like an
- 5:27Speaker 1: only fans, like sexy couple. They're attractive. I don't know.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So they feel they were like targeted. And now people
- 5:34Speaker 1: are saying, I don't even think he had rabies, which
- 5:36Speaker 1: is why he was killed. And, you know, my basically
- 5:42Speaker 1: this was the story that came from a juicy scooper.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Peanut and the raccoon were rescued and bottle fed. They
- 5:47Speaker 1: had them for like seven years with the money they
- 5:50Speaker 1: earned from social media. They opened a rescue basically. Some
- 5:54Speaker 1: Karen complained, and they came and raided their home and
- 5:57Speaker 1: took them and euthanized both the squirrel and the raccoon.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So thank you to that juicy scooper, Michael, that let
- 6:02Speaker 1: me know that. But the official has said he's not
- 6:07Speaker 1: going to bother the governor of New York with this.
- 6:10Speaker 1: So there was talk that some smaller officials in New
- 6:14Speaker 1: York were going to go fight the governor. Why did
- 6:17Speaker 1: you let this happen? Now the latest thing is like, no,
- 6:20Speaker 1: there's more important things to worry about. But the squirrel
- 6:23Speaker 1: was a huge influencer and the couple that helped the squirrel,
- 6:30Speaker 1: people really liked them too. So there you go with
- 6:32Speaker 1: a follow-up on that. Also a follow-up on two crazy squirrels.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And that comes from The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.
- 6:39Speaker 1: As you recall, Monica Casey was a troll that infiltrated
- 6:45Speaker 1: the show. She was under the Instagram, Reality Von Teese
- 6:51Speaker 1: was her name. And she wrote me. She wrote several people.
- 6:55Speaker 1: And really her whole account was exposing how awful Jen Shah,
- 6:59Speaker 1: who is now doing nine years, so I think she
- 7:01Speaker 1: got a couple years cropped off, for stealing from the
- 7:05Speaker 1: elderly in scams. So her whole thing was that she
- 7:09Speaker 1: was friends with her or worked for her and was
- 7:12Speaker 1: exposing how awful she was. She had audio tapes that
- 7:14Speaker 1: she played and everything. But the cast, she claims, also
- 7:19Speaker 1: talked to her on this. But then she got on
- 7:21Speaker 1: the show as Monica Casey, divorced mother of four. And
- 7:27Speaker 1: and then, of course, Heather Gay had her Oscar Emmy
- 7:31Speaker 1: winning moment where she's like receipts, timelines, everything. And that
- 7:37Speaker 1: was her moment where she realized that this girl, this troll,
- 7:40Speaker 1: this mole was was actually a real housewife. And they
- 7:44Speaker 1: felt that she had written bad things about all of them,
- 7:47Speaker 1: so they wanted her out. So she got out. Now, meanwhile,
- 7:51Speaker 1: she also realized at that time that one of her
- 7:54Speaker 1: lawsuits that she had going was that Monica had gone
- 7:57Speaker 1: to her beauty lab. This is Heather Gay's business. It
- 8:01Speaker 1: does really well. And this is where you can get facials,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but you can also get Botox, lip injections, all that
- 8:08Speaker 1: like MediSpa kind of stuff done. And she went there
- 8:11Speaker 1: and got her lips done and wrote to the person
- 8:14Speaker 1: at the place. I love it. They look great. And
- 8:16Speaker 1: then didn't pay. And then when they came after her,
- 8:19Speaker 1: the reason they didn't know is like she used another name.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I'm just recalling this, you know. So anyway, there was
- 8:26Speaker 1: a $ 2, 000 that she owed Beauty Lab. And she never
- 8:30Speaker 1: paid it. And then she tried to say that she
- 8:32Speaker 1: wasn't happy with her lips, even though they had a
- 8:34Speaker 1: text of her saying to someone, I love the lips,
- 8:36Speaker 1: love it. So Beauty Lab sued her and she tried
- 8:41Speaker 1: to fight back. Beauty Lab won and they won their $ 2, 000.
- 8:46Speaker 1: The interest of 18 months or whatever it was, was
- 8:49Speaker 1: like another $ 1, 900. But then $ 31, 000 was for the legal
- 8:55Speaker 1: fees that Beauty Lab and Heather Gay incurred by defending
- 9:00Speaker 1: themselves and going after this money. So She now has
- 9:04Speaker 1: a judgment, Monica Casey, to pay Beauty Lab, owned by
- 9:08Speaker 1: Heather Gay of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, $ 35, 000.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So she is the voiceover of the show The Villain.
- 9:17Speaker 1: I don't know how much they paid her for that,
- 9:19Speaker 1: but there you go. And she made a comment being like,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I can't believe this is even news when this is
- 9:26Speaker 1: happening because it came out yesterday on election day. But
- 9:29Speaker 1: you know, That's why it's news because if you're looking
- 9:32Speaker 1: for any other news to talk about like me, this
- 9:35Speaker 1: was pretty juicy. And I say good for Heather Gay.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Pay your bills. That's the moral of the story. Before
- 9:41Speaker 1: it goes to a legal thing because then you're going
- 9:43Speaker 1: to get these– it's going to be 10 times more,
- 9:45Speaker 1: which it was, if she would have just paid the $ 2, 000
- 9:47Speaker 1: or if she would have just been like, okay, I'm
- 9:50Speaker 1: going to give you $ 100 a month, whatever. All these
- 9:53Speaker 1: people will work with you. It's when you just like
- 9:55Speaker 1: refuse and then very stupid of her. Also, remember. the
- 10:00Speaker 1: golden bachelor. Oh, you're so special. Oh, you're so special. Anyway,
- 10:07Speaker 1: he got– he picked his girl named Teresa and she
- 10:11Speaker 1: was real cute. Now, they were both widows and they
- 10:14Speaker 1: both had children and grandchildren. And they got married on TV.
- 10:19Speaker 1: And then they got divorced within months. And it was all, oh,
- 10:26Speaker 1: we couldn't figure out where to live. Well, she has
- 10:29Speaker 1: now come forward and said there was a little more
- 10:31Speaker 1: to it than that. One was she was still working. Remember,
- 10:34Speaker 1: a lot of us were concerned that he kind of
- 10:37Speaker 1: latched onto her because she was successful and still working.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And she worked in like, she was like a stockbroker
- 10:43Speaker 1: or something, but she was like had money and she
- 10:45Speaker 1: had this house in North Carolina and she really thought
- 10:47Speaker 1: that he would come and move there, but he lived
- 10:49Speaker 1: in like Indiana or whatever. And so one day she
- 10:52Speaker 1: was going to visit him and she said there was
- 10:55Speaker 1: this like this big, beautiful open land area on the
- 10:58Speaker 1: way from the airport to his house. And she just said,
- 11:00Speaker 1: oh my gosh, this would be a beautiful place just
- 11:03Speaker 1: to build like beautiful townhomes or something. You know, it's
- 11:06Speaker 1: just such a great view or whatever she said. And
- 11:09Speaker 1: he snapped at her and was like, farmland in the
- 11:13Speaker 1: Midwest is protected. What do you want to take land
- 11:16Speaker 1: from the farmers? And, you know, she was like, oh, okay.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like she didn't realize she's making conversation, you know? And
- 11:25Speaker 1: it was one of those things that she was like,
- 11:26Speaker 1: I just don't think we could really get past that.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Like we just thought about life very differently. And then
- 11:30Speaker 1: they just were like, so the moral of the story
- 11:33Speaker 1: is you shouldn't marry somebody, whether you're 17 or 70,
- 11:36Speaker 1: that you met on a TV show in which you
- 11:39Speaker 1: only knew them for a matter of months before you
- 11:41Speaker 1: tied the knot, especially when it means you're this set
- 11:46Speaker 1: in your ways. You've already been married to the love
- 11:48Speaker 1: of your life prior who you lost. Like, it's just
- 11:51Speaker 1: not going to work out. Also, in other reality news, well,
- 11:56Speaker 1: this is coming from the Vanderpump Rules Party. They cover
- 11:59Speaker 1: all the Vanderpump stuff. This is their Instagram account. And
- 12:02Speaker 1: they said that all charges have been dropped and the
- 12:04Speaker 1: case is dismissed for Jeremy Maddox. This is the brother
- 12:10Speaker 1: of Ariana Maddox who was arrested with his friend allegedly
- 12:16Speaker 1: bringing– I don't know if it was alleged because the
- 12:18Speaker 1: stuff was there. But they were– had like 50 pounds
- 12:22Speaker 1: in a suitcase going from Orlando to Germany of weed.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And anyway, it's been dropped. So we don't really know
- 12:32Speaker 1: the details of it. Some of the comments were he
- 12:36Speaker 1: probably gave the names of the bigger person. Obviously, in
- 12:40Speaker 1: a drug dealing situation of that magnitude, the feds or
- 12:44Speaker 1: whoever want to know who's really running the operation, who's
- 12:49Speaker 1: the top person. And if you're going to turn in
- 12:50Speaker 1: your boss, then they'll be a little more lenient. So
- 12:54Speaker 1: that's good. I know he's engaged. They're estranged. She was
- 12:58Speaker 1: not there for the engagement party. She was not there
- 13:00Speaker 1: for his birthday party that Sheena threw. But this is
- 13:04Speaker 1: good for their family. She, meanwhile, is doing fabulous. She
- 13:08Speaker 1: is going to be at the Macy's Day Parade. And
- 13:11Speaker 1: still no word if Vanderpump Rules has an old cast,
- 13:16Speaker 1: a new cast, a mixed cast, or when they start
- 13:19Speaker 1: filming again. So we'll see about that. Also, Tom Sandoval
- 13:30Speaker 1: said that the famed lawyers behind the reality reckoning accused–
- 13:37Speaker 1: he is accusing them because they were his attorneys as
- 13:39Speaker 1: well of enticing him to point the finger at Bravo
- 13:43Speaker 1: and NBCUniversal. So– To remind you guys, Bethany Frankel thought
- 13:50Speaker 1: she was going to take down Bravo with this reality reckoning.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But the people that she got to go after Bravo
- 13:56Speaker 1: were not a sympathetic bunch. And again, I just don't
- 14:00Speaker 1: think this had a movement like maybe you would sympathize
- 14:04Speaker 1: with like, you know, a union type of people that
- 14:08Speaker 1: are like working for hotels and you're like, you're right,
- 14:10Speaker 1: they don't have good, you know, let's get behind this
- 14:13Speaker 1: union that's working for this hotel and make sure that
- 14:15Speaker 1: they get their... Like this was just kind of like
- 14:17Speaker 1: it was undesirable people from the show that we didn't
- 14:20Speaker 1: really care about. So I don't think people care that
- 14:22Speaker 1: much about it. Raquel being one of them. Also, Leah
- 14:29Speaker 1: McSweeney from Real Housewives of New York. She's saying that,
- 14:32Speaker 1: you know, they they were not good about her struggling sobriety.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Ebony from New York, I think, had some might have
- 14:39Speaker 1: been part of it. I don't know who actually filed
- 14:41Speaker 1: a lawsuit. So Mark Garagos was like part of it.
- 14:44Speaker 1: And it was like, oh, my God, this is going
- 14:45Speaker 1: to be this huge takedown. And meanwhile, Tom Sandoval was
- 14:50Speaker 1: being sued by Raquel, Rachel Raquel, for she said he,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you know, filmed her without her consent during the scandal
- 15:00Speaker 1: of when they FaceTimed and had sexy time together in
- 15:03Speaker 1: which Ariana saw it on his phone. So she's suing
- 15:07Speaker 1: both of them for not for him, for not making
- 15:11Speaker 1: her aware that he was filming her and for Ariana
- 15:15Speaker 1: for sharing it, though Ariana said she never shared it.
- 15:18Speaker 1: She only sent it to back to Raquel to be like,
- 15:21Speaker 1: I know what the fuck you did. You're why with
- 15:24Speaker 1: my man. I'm done with you. So there's never been
- 15:27Speaker 1: any proof on any of that to see that there's
- 15:30Speaker 1: any wrongdoing there. I don't know where that lawsuit stands.
- 15:35Speaker 1: But now Tom Sandoval is saying that his lawyers came
- 15:39Speaker 1: to him and said, if you point the finger and
- 15:43Speaker 1: are part of this reality reckoning at NBC and Bravo
- 15:47Speaker 1: and say they exploited my story, they forced this story
- 15:52Speaker 1: to happen with Raquel, just point the finger of them
- 15:56Speaker 1: wrongdoing as far as production and a network. Then we
- 16:00Speaker 1: will help. This is what Tom is claiming. Then we
- 16:03Speaker 1: will make sure that the lawsuit that Raquel is doing
- 16:06Speaker 1: against you, Tom Sandoval, will be dropped. He's like, no,
- 16:10Speaker 1: I'm not pointing the finger at Bravo or my production
- 16:13Speaker 1: company because they didn't do that. They didn't do it.
- 16:16Speaker 1: So again, we don't know what's happening with him. We
- 16:21Speaker 1: don't know. What is going to happen with this show?
- 16:24Speaker 1: He has still got his Tom Sandoval and the extras performing.
- 16:28Speaker 1: People are still going and enjoying it. He has a
- 16:31Speaker 1: new girlfriend, and we'll see what happens. But that's pretty juicy.
- 16:36Speaker 1: And then no word from Bethany Frankel, I guess. with
- 16:40Speaker 1: her be strong and everything. We don't know what she's
- 16:43Speaker 1: doing with this reality reckoning. I think she's just acting
- 16:45Speaker 1: like she never was behind it. Meanwhile, Raquel ended her
- 16:48Speaker 1: podcast and is dating a rocket scientist and has moved
- 16:52Speaker 1: the fuck along. Okay. So also, I thought this was interesting.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Kristen Cavallari, she said that she wants her next boyfriend
- 17:02Speaker 1: to have had a vasectomy. I think this is so
- 17:06Speaker 1: interesting and smart and kind of a great conversation. She
- 17:10Speaker 1: is like 36 or 37. She broke up with the
- 17:13Speaker 1: hot TikToking Montana boy who was 24, said it was
- 17:17Speaker 1: the best sex of her life, but they broke up
- 17:20Speaker 1: because he, you know, she felt he needed to live
- 17:24Speaker 1: his life and whatever. I heard rumors that he was
- 17:28Speaker 1: going to go on a dating show or wanted to,
- 17:30Speaker 1: and she was like, okay. I think I've had my fun.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think we've screwed each other enough, whatever. And she,
- 17:38Speaker 1: you know, I guess isn't really sure that she wants
- 17:40Speaker 1: to have any more kids or maybe she has decided
- 17:42Speaker 1: I don't want to. She probably has decided I don't
- 17:44Speaker 1: want to have any more kids, but I don't want
- 17:47Speaker 1: to be faced with a guy who might want to
- 17:49Speaker 1: have more. And then this is an issue again. And
- 17:51Speaker 1: the ideal person to get with is someone who's out
- 17:54Speaker 1: of a sectomy because that guy has decided I am done.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Either I've never wanted kids or I don't. want any
- 18:01Speaker 1: in the future. There's also been talk in Hollywood, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: I said it years ago. When I was at Chelsea lately,
- 18:09Speaker 1: I said, I think that George Clooney has had a
- 18:11Speaker 1: secret vasectomy. And it was a pretty, like, what?
- 18:17Speaker 4: Thought.
- 18:18Speaker 1: I have since found out that there are very successful
- 18:22Speaker 1: men who have never had kids that have had secret vasectomies.
- 18:27Speaker 1: in which they save their sperm, just like you'd freeze
- 18:30Speaker 1: your eggs, and they save it for when they are
- 18:32Speaker 1: ready to have kids. And that way no one can say,
- 18:35Speaker 1: you know, poke holes in the condoms or act like they're,
- 18:40Speaker 1: you know, barren and then get pregnant and complicate their
- 18:44Speaker 1: life if they're not ready to be a father with
- 18:46Speaker 1: this girl that they're sleeping with. So I still think
- 18:50Speaker 1: that's possible because George Clooney had all these girlfriends up
- 18:54Speaker 1: until he met them all, and then they had twins.
- 18:56Speaker 1: which I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking maybe
- 18:59Speaker 1: a fertility situation, fertility doctor came into play, which would
- 19:03Speaker 1: be perfect. Here's my sperm. Let's do some eggs. And
- 19:06Speaker 1: then she had the kids. So she might find a
- 19:10Speaker 1: guy that either A, has had a couple of kids
- 19:12Speaker 1: and gotten a vasectomy, or he's like, I've had a
- 19:15Speaker 1: vasectomy and tell him ready to have kids with somebody else.
- 19:18Speaker 1: But I still think you need to get with Kristen.
- 19:21Speaker 1: She says, I want a Brady Bunch situation. I think
- 19:23Speaker 1: she needs to be a very clear If you're going
- 19:25Speaker 1: to get with me, I'm done having kids. It's okay
- 19:28Speaker 1: if you bring some with you, but saving your sperm, whatever,
- 19:32Speaker 1: we're done. And I think that's cool. I think it's
- 19:36Speaker 1: an interesting thing. And I wonder when women are in
- 19:39Speaker 1: that place of like between 35 and 42 where you
- 19:43Speaker 1: can still pretty easily get pregnant just by doing it
- 19:49Speaker 1: the old-fashioned way. you got to be real clear with
- 19:51Speaker 1: your person. Giselle, happily, I think she's pregnant. She's either
- 19:56Speaker 1: 42 or 44, pregnant with the jiu-jitsu, karate times two guy.
- 20:06Speaker 1: It's all good for her, but for somebody else, Maybe
- 20:09Speaker 1: doesn't have millions and millions of dollars or just doesn't
- 20:11Speaker 1: want to go down that path. You got to spell
- 20:14Speaker 1: it out. A lot of people were disturbed by Kim
- 20:17Speaker 1: Kardashian going to this LACMA, which is a beautiful L.A.
- 20:23Speaker 1: museum here. They have like some fancy thing every year.
- 20:28Speaker 1: I listen. She has perfect boobs and a perfect cleavage.
- 20:31Speaker 1: And she got this big amethyst cross purple dress. jewels
- 20:38Speaker 1: cross that she got at an auction from Princess Diana.
- 20:42Speaker 1: She had the money. She bought it and she styled
- 20:45Speaker 1: it with just a very low cut white halter dress.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And I thought it looked sexy. And I don't think,
- 20:53Speaker 1: and I think it's, it's a good way to get
- 20:55Speaker 1: people talking about you. Cause I definitely think we don't
- 20:57Speaker 1: talk about them as much as we used to. I
- 21:00Speaker 1: think it's stunning. I think it's cool that she added
- 21:03Speaker 1: other necklaces with it. And I, It's not like Diana
- 21:06Speaker 1: gave it to her because they were best friends and
- 21:09Speaker 1: she gave it to her in a church and was like,
- 21:12Speaker 1: this is my gift to you before I die because
- 21:15Speaker 1: I want you to pray on it. It wasn't that.
- 21:18Speaker 1: She went just like she could buy jewels. I think
- 21:20Speaker 1: she's bought stuff from the Liz Taylor collection. But it
- 21:25Speaker 1: made me go, ooh. Like I almost want to wear
- 21:28Speaker 1: something like that costume because it's very– it like looks
- 21:32Speaker 1: very cool. And anyway, so that was some– I thought
- 21:35Speaker 1: she looked good. Also Diddy or whoever is playing Diddy
- 21:40Speaker 1: in prison celebrated his 55th birthday behind bars and there
- 21:45Speaker 1: was video of his kids with his youngest daughter. I
- 21:49Speaker 1: don't know who her mom is but the youngest daughter
- 21:51Speaker 1: was really cute. singing happy birthday to him on the
- 21:54Speaker 1: phone with a Bundt cake. And he had some sad meal,
- 22:00Speaker 1: Daily Mail said. He celebrates his birthday behind bars with
- 22:04Speaker 1: sad prison meal. Well, I hope it's a sad prison meal.
- 22:07Speaker 1: If you're behind bars for trafficking, I hope it is.
- 22:11Speaker 1: But there you go. All right, you guys, I was
- 22:14Speaker 1: able to talk to Janelle. Yes, wife number two of
- 22:17Speaker 1: Sister Wives. Now, if you're you know about Sisterwise. Even
- 22:22Speaker 1: if you're not watching it this season, you will absolutely
- 22:24Speaker 1: love this interview. You love the one with Christine, wife
- 22:28Speaker 1: number three. This is Janelle, wife number two. She too
- 22:32Speaker 1: has left Cody. And it's so interesting. We get into
- 22:36Speaker 1: her background, how she was previously married, how the connection
- 22:41Speaker 1: of her mother with Cody's family, her connection with Mary's family.
- 22:45Speaker 1: A lot of the things that I would hear bits
- 22:46Speaker 1: and pieces as I've watched it over the years and
- 22:48Speaker 1: were confused by, what happened, what it's like, what it
- 22:52Speaker 1: really was like to film the show. A lot of
- 22:55Speaker 1: the things about filming the show and whatnot, I was
- 22:58Speaker 1: afraid that in asking her, she wouldn't answer or maybe
- 23:02Speaker 1: they would make me not air it. So it's a
- 23:05Speaker 1: really behind the scenes kind of an interview. And we
- 23:09Speaker 1: did it on Zoom and it was really great to
- 23:11Speaker 1: talk to her. And so here we go with Janelle
- 23:13Speaker 1: from Sister Wives.
- 23:20Speaker 2: A cuppa, a breather, a moment for you, for a change.
- 23:25Speaker 2: When you spend your days looking after others, it's easy
- 23:28Speaker 2: to put everyone else first. So take a little time
- 23:31Speaker 2: to think about protecting what matters most to you. Corn
- 23:34Speaker 2: Market offers a range of protection options for your income,
- 23:37Speaker 2: home and family, helping you plan ahead with greater peace
- 23:40Speaker 2: of mind. Corn Market, protection you never see, but always feel.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Call Corn Market to find out more. Cornmarket Group Financial
- 23:48Speaker 2: Services Limited is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
- 23:52Speaker 3: I'm Darman, and this is What Happens Next. Each week
- 23:56Speaker 3: on the show, I sit down with extraordinary people who
- 23:59Speaker 3: have faced tremendous setbacks and yet somehow have found a
- 24:03Speaker 3: way to turn them into their greatest strengths.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Life is one long lesson of chaos. I'm heading to
- 24:09Speaker 5: the Emmys, and I have police complaints filed against me.
- 24:12Speaker 5: When your free will was about to be taken from you,
- 24:14Speaker 5: what would you do if it was given back?
- 24:17Speaker 3: Where did that need come from where you thought that
- 24:20Speaker 3: you had to succeed in order to feel loved?
- 24:22Speaker 1: He said, I have a work dad.
- 24:23Speaker 4: I need a home dad.
- 24:24Speaker 1: What happens next? When I came in, he started crying.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Everybody in life encounters hardships. What defines them is not
- 24:32Speaker 3: those hard moments that they go through. It's about what
- 24:34Speaker 3: happens next.
- 24:35Speaker 1: I decided to risk it all. I realized how valuable
- 24:38Speaker 1: every day was. You're worth the work.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Listen, Dara, I'm not going to pull punches.
- 24:42Speaker 1: You can use your voice even if it's shaped.
- 24:44Speaker 3: The stories are different, but the impact is the same.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Only one question matters. What happens next?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Juicy Scoop. I'm so excited to
- 25:01Speaker 1: be talking to the first time ever. I've watched you
- 25:03Speaker 1: for 17 seasons. Janelle Brown, mother, former polygamous wife of
- 25:11Speaker 1: Cody Brown, wife number two, star of TLC Sister Wives.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Welcome to Juicy Scoop.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Thank you. Thank you. Wow.
- 25:22Speaker 1: Okay. Okay. I have so many questions. So one thing
- 25:27Speaker 1: that you've said since the breakup with Cody is you're like,
- 25:32Speaker 1: I always liked polygamy and I wouldn't be opposed to
- 25:35Speaker 1: possibly joining that situation again. So tell me again what
- 25:42Speaker 1: your history was with polygamy growing up before you met
- 25:48Speaker 1: Cody and accepted his proposal.
- 25:52Speaker 4: So I grew up in the mainstream LBS church and
- 25:55Speaker 4: they actually did away with polygamy in like the 1890s.
- 26:00Speaker 4: So they don't live polygamy. There were groups of people
- 26:04Speaker 4: who felt like that was the wrong decision. So they
- 26:06Speaker 4: continued to live it. They were offshoot groups. So when
- 26:11Speaker 4: I first met Cody and when I first met Mary
- 26:14Speaker 4: and her family, they were kind of like my token
- 26:17Speaker 4: polygamous friends. I was like, oh, I have these friends
- 26:19Speaker 4: in there. It was always this novelty thing to talk about.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And you knew that they were polygamous because even though
- 26:26Speaker 1: she was the only wife at the time, they said
- 26:27Speaker 1: this is the lifestyle we're looking forward to.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:30Speaker 4: I'm sorry. This was Mary and her family way before. Oh,
- 26:33Speaker 4: her family.
- 26:34Speaker 1: So Mary came from polygamy.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Yes. Yes.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 26:38Speaker 4: So I knew Mary's family. And, um, so they were
- 26:41Speaker 4: always kind of like my token polygamous friend, like the
- 26:43Speaker 4: party thing you brought up, like something you talked about.
- 26:46Speaker 4: And when I first met them, I remember being shocked
- 26:48Speaker 4: because I didn't know people still live polygamy. I mean,
- 26:51Speaker 4: I lived in Utah my whole life. I never knew
- 26:52Speaker 4: any polygamists, you know? Um, But yeah, so that was
- 26:57Speaker 4: a big shock for me in high school to realize
- 26:59Speaker 4: that people still lived polygamy. And they're living right there
- 27:03Speaker 4: as neighbors, people that, you know, you saw all the time,
- 27:05Speaker 4: but didn't think about. So, um, so it was after
- 27:11Speaker 4: I was probably in my early 20s, when I started
- 27:14Speaker 4: to investigate more of the fundamentalist Mormon beliefs. And Mary's mom,
- 27:18Speaker 4: she was amazing. She was an amazing lady. And she
- 27:21Speaker 4: really did meet with me and study with me and
- 27:26Speaker 4: kind of help me sort of discover if this was
- 27:28Speaker 4: something that I wanted to pursue so thanks thank Mary's
- 27:31Speaker 4: mom because I'm I'm here so.
- 27:33Speaker 1: So and what are and when someone is kind of
- 27:35Speaker 1: like let me walk you through it do they share
- 27:38Speaker 1: the benefits of it like we saw in the show
- 27:41Speaker 1: that like it you know what what are the things
- 27:44Speaker 1: that appealed to you in discovering it You know.
- 27:48Speaker 4: Really, for me, it was really about it was about faith.
- 27:51Speaker 4: It was about the doctrines. Like, so that was where
- 27:53Speaker 4: it's really based. It's not they don't really talk to
- 27:56Speaker 4: you about the lifestyle. You know what I mean? Like,
- 27:58Speaker 4: they're every family is different. Every person is different. So
- 28:00Speaker 4: for us, it's very much based on scripture and prayer,
- 28:04Speaker 4: you know, to decide if you want to live this way.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And what is the doctrine? What does it say that
- 28:11Speaker 1: why this should be the path you take?
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yeah, it really is just a pathway, I think, to,
- 28:18Speaker 4: I think, to like... to become better, right? To, to,
- 28:23Speaker 4: to strive for perfection. Every, every religion has a pathway.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Moksha for the, you know what I mean? Like, you
- 28:30Speaker 4: know what I mean? Like everybody has a pathway to
- 28:32Speaker 4: more righteousness or to a health, a righteous, a more
- 28:34Speaker 4: righteous living. And really we just, it's really a personal
- 28:37Speaker 4: growth formula, I think. So the men have to grow
- 28:42Speaker 4: and the women have to grow.
- 28:44Speaker 1: So then, so you were like friends with Mary and
- 28:46Speaker 1: Cody and now weren't you married briefly prior to Cody?
- 28:52Speaker 4: I was married. That's how I knew Mary's family. I
- 28:54Speaker 4: was married to Cody or to Mary's brother very, very briefly.
- 28:57Speaker 4: I think we lived together for maybe like five months
- 28:59Speaker 4: because it was not, it did not stick. And that
- 29:02Speaker 4: was over before I met Cody. That was over.
- 29:07Speaker 1: And then didn't your mom or somebody else marry Cody's dad?
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yes. So she came to save me, you know, from
- 29:14Speaker 4: the polygamous because sure as heck, nobody, none of her
- 29:17Speaker 4: kids were going to marry polygamous because there is a
- 29:19Speaker 4: lot of stigma against polygamy and especially in Utah, a
- 29:24Speaker 4: lot of stigma. They're treated very like second-class citizens in
- 29:27Speaker 4: lots of ways. But she was going to save me
- 29:30Speaker 4: from the polygamous, but she ended up marrying Cody's dad.
- 29:33Speaker 4: yeah and are they still together um he passed away
- 29:38Speaker 4: in 2013 14 so they they were together until he
- 29:44Speaker 4: passed away yeah but.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Were they in a monogamous marriage no plural how many
- 29:49Speaker 1: wives did Cody have.
- 29:52Speaker 4: Cody's dad yeah yeah Cody's dad had three wives.
- 29:56Speaker 1: So and your mom was number what three They married
- 30:00Speaker 1: late in life. And so then your mom, after she
- 30:03Speaker 1: came to visit you and say, don't do it, fell
- 30:06Speaker 1: in love with Cody's dad and the lifestyle as well.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. So there you go.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And then jump to you guys, you know, then you,
- 30:15Speaker 1: then Christine comes on and you were fine about that
- 30:20Speaker 1: because you, this was the lifestyle you wanted, correct?
- 30:23Speaker 4: Yes. Yes.
- 30:25Speaker 1: In what he was saying in the latest episodes, Cody,
- 30:27Speaker 1: I thought it was like, really? This is a different Cody.
- 30:31Speaker 4: This is a very different Cody. You know what I mean?
- 30:35Speaker 1: And I think that is really, no, I mean, it's
- 30:37Speaker 1: just so fascinating. And that's why I covered your show
- 30:41Speaker 1: so much. Because first of all, you guys are all
- 30:43Speaker 1: really interesting and likable and so real and so different
- 30:47Speaker 1: than like the real housewives type of things. Because you
- 30:50Speaker 1: really never change as far as like who you are
- 30:54Speaker 1: at the core. You're not getting tons of plastic surgery.
- 30:57Speaker 1: You're not, you know, living a different life. You're not
- 30:59Speaker 1: going on a million red carpets. So I find that
- 31:03Speaker 1: really very interesting. And of course, the story is the
- 31:07Speaker 1: only story on TV like it, unique.
- 31:09Speaker 4: So.
- 31:10Speaker 1: but what he was saying is, you know, not, and
- 31:15Speaker 1: I'm going to give him some grace. Okay. Cause everybody's
- 31:17Speaker 1: always going after him, but I feel like he is,
- 31:22Speaker 1: which is happens with a lot of people, um, when
- 31:26Speaker 1: they kind of leave a religion and essentially polygamy was
- 31:29Speaker 1: his own religion. You guys kind of did your own thing.
- 31:32Speaker 4: It was, it was, it's a part of our religion.
- 31:34Speaker 4: It was, it's a part of our religion.
- 31:35Speaker 1: And because it didn't work out now he's in his
- 31:38Speaker 1: fifties and he's had three wives have left him and
- 31:41Speaker 1: he only has the one. And I think he was
- 31:44Speaker 1: trying to say like, I was so committed to the
- 31:48Speaker 1: lifestyle that looking back, because he's been rejected by you
- 31:53Speaker 1: and Christine, and I mean, he's mean about Mary, but
- 31:58Speaker 1: it feels like it was more, you know, obviously your
- 32:01Speaker 1: doing to leave him. So I think to justify his rejection,
- 32:06Speaker 1: he's saying, you know, I was so committed to this
- 32:09Speaker 1: lifestyle and I thought everybody wanted it. And looking back,
- 32:13Speaker 1: I didn't marry Mary. with the same time of passion
- 32:17Speaker 1: and love. It was just, here's this person. She's, she's
- 32:21Speaker 1: good enough for now. And she wants to do the
- 32:24Speaker 1: lifestyle and we're going to go in this path that
- 32:26Speaker 1: God told me to do. And that's, I mean, do
- 32:29Speaker 1: you feel like that's kind of what he was saying? Like,
- 32:31Speaker 1: he's like mad that he, I think he's mad that he,
- 32:34Speaker 1: now that he's left with the one wife, Robin, I
- 32:37Speaker 1: think he's kind of like, why did I do it all? Like,
- 32:40Speaker 1: which is weird because Whenever anybody, I think the most
- 32:45Speaker 1: beautiful thing about a divorce is if you do have kids,
- 32:49Speaker 1: you can always say, well, I wouldn't have this kid
- 32:51Speaker 1: if I didn't. So it's like, it's just a path,
- 32:54Speaker 1: but it's like, he's just kind of being like, why
- 32:57Speaker 1: did I ever do it? I should have, maybe I
- 32:58Speaker 1: should have never done this in the first place. I
- 33:00Speaker 1: married the wrong women.
- 33:02Speaker 4: Yeah. I have no idea why he says that. Yeah.
- 33:07Speaker 4: For me, it's really hard to judge the decisions and
- 33:11Speaker 4: the life I was living in my 20s and 30s
- 33:15Speaker 4: from my perspective now. I think any relationship I were
- 33:19Speaker 4: to have, just like the relationship he has with Robin,
- 33:22Speaker 4: would be very different now than the relationship I had
- 33:25Speaker 4: with him in the beginning. I think we all grow
- 33:27Speaker 4: and evolve, right? And I don't know if he needs
- 33:30Speaker 4: to somehow... Instead of just comparing, I think, and saying, hey, well,
- 33:36Speaker 4: that's a very different relationship experience. I think he wants
- 33:39Speaker 4: to try to somehow... I don't know. You'd have to
- 33:44Speaker 4: ask him. But to me, it's like he's just trying
- 33:46Speaker 4: to validate where he's at now. I have no idea why.
- 33:49Speaker 4: We have these beautiful children. And Christine and I have
- 33:53Speaker 4: always said, we do not regret anything that we have done.
- 33:56Speaker 4: We don't regret our life at all. Because we have
- 33:58Speaker 4: this amazing family. I've had all these life experiences. Like,
- 34:03Speaker 4: I don't regret one bit of it, you know?
- 34:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think, you know, that's the thing. Like,
- 34:08Speaker 1: life is, you know, life is long. And it's, you know,
- 34:12Speaker 1: so let's now get into what was going on. So
- 34:15Speaker 1: when the show first started now, I remember from... I
- 34:18Speaker 1: got to let my dog out.
- 34:19Speaker 4: One second. Yeah.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Oh.
- 34:25Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 34:27Speaker 4: Okay. So.
- 34:29Speaker 1: When I remember Christine kind of telling me that like
- 34:33Speaker 1: the show started because it was just going to be
- 34:34Speaker 1: this one, like this one-off where you're going to participate
- 34:38Speaker 1: in like a documentary, like one-off. And then they discovered you.
- 34:41Speaker 1: And so I want to hear from you, like, When
- 34:45Speaker 1: you agreed to let cameras come in, and essentially when
- 34:48Speaker 1: you say once we became public, that's what you're referring
- 34:51Speaker 1: to as we're on this show. Was anybody else in
- 34:55Speaker 1: your life, like your mom who was married to Cody's dad,
- 34:58Speaker 1: other people, were they excited for you at any time
- 35:02Speaker 1: through the 17 seasons? They were like, I don't think
- 35:05Speaker 1: you should do this anymore.
- 35:06Speaker 4: You know, we... I'm not sure how much you know.
- 35:11Speaker 4: Christine had become very involved with a political action group
- 35:16Speaker 4: to try to help bring issues to the legislature and
- 35:19Speaker 4: the law people. That's so sophisticated. The legal people in
- 35:26Speaker 4: Utah tried to advocate for plural families. We were approached
- 35:32Speaker 4: about doing a show a couple of different times. The
- 35:37Speaker 4: one that took was a gentleman who really truly believed
- 35:41Speaker 4: that there was way more to the story than what
- 35:43Speaker 4: was being shown. Right. Sorry, there's a very loud thing.
- 35:48Speaker 1: I can't hear. Keep going.
- 35:50Speaker 4: Okay, good.
- 35:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:52Speaker 4: And so we went with him and it was we
- 35:54Speaker 4: trusted him and he was he turned out to be
- 35:56Speaker 4: such a great guy. Like he was a really great guy.
- 35:59Speaker 4: And so he brought the show to fruition. I remember
- 36:03Speaker 4: being so scared. I was so scared because we were
- 36:07Speaker 4: essentially going to go right in the face of the
- 36:11Speaker 4: law of Utah. And I remember being so scared that
- 36:15Speaker 4: they would come and arrest me at work or like
- 36:17Speaker 4: do something crazy, you know, separate our family. we did
- 36:21Speaker 4: get a lot of kickback from our religious community at
- 36:24Speaker 4: the time because they were scared too. They're like, usually
- 36:27Speaker 4: how it worked in Utah is you sort of just
- 36:29Speaker 4: kept your head down. You just didn't make it rock
- 36:31Speaker 4: the boat. You kept your head down. People know you
- 36:34Speaker 4: were living polygamy, but you know, just they didn't say
- 36:36Speaker 4: don't ask, don't tell kind of in a different sort
- 36:38Speaker 4: of way. So our community was very scared. So most
- 36:43Speaker 4: of them were scared about us going public. And then
- 36:45Speaker 4: by association, they would be outed. Um, but there were
- 36:49Speaker 4: a lot that were like, yeah, it's about time. Like
- 36:52Speaker 4: the younger generation, especially it's about time that we start
- 36:55Speaker 4: to show that we're normal. Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 1: And so, so I didn't realize right when the show started,
- 37:03Speaker 1: Robin was already in the fold, um, talking to Cody
- 37:08Speaker 1: and all of that, that, that I just discovered. I
- 37:11Speaker 1: thought that you guys already had like a season or
- 37:13Speaker 1: two before she came on. So she, she had entered it.
- 37:18Speaker 1: With no, just to clear up any misconceptions, it wasn't
- 37:21Speaker 1: like part of the attraction of her joining your family was, oh,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I get to be on TV because it hadn't started yet.
- 37:27Speaker 4: No, in fact, she almost didn't join the family because
- 37:29Speaker 4: she wasn't sure she wanted to be on TV. Like
- 37:32Speaker 4: she almost didn't. So, so she already was there courting
- 37:36Speaker 4: and she were already courting at the time that we
- 37:40Speaker 4: decided to, you know, have the first episode or whatever.
- 37:43Speaker 1: And And so that we see, you know, when the
- 37:47Speaker 1: kids are little, one of my things, when you guys
- 37:50Speaker 1: would show like Thanksgiving and Christmas and all the tables
- 37:53Speaker 1: and everything, would a camera guy come for that? Or
- 37:57Speaker 1: would you just shoot your own stuff and send it?
- 37:59Speaker 4: They were there. Like they were there. They were so dedicated.
- 38:02Speaker 4: We have a really amazing crew. So we have had
- 38:06Speaker 4: pretty much the same crew. A few people have come
- 38:09Speaker 4: and gone, but pretty much the same crew from the beginning.
- 38:12Speaker 4: And we wanted that because of the kids. Right. They
- 38:14Speaker 4: were in the house with us and the kids. And
- 38:16Speaker 4: so we just we know these people like we just
- 38:19Speaker 4: know them like we've worked with them for so many years.
- 38:22Speaker 4: They're sort of like sort of like the work family. Right.
- 38:25Speaker 4: That you just know so well.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:27Speaker 4: In fact, we were just talking today because my daughter
- 38:29Speaker 4: just had her 29th birthday. They're like, wow. We remember
- 38:32Speaker 4: when she was like 15. I'm like, yeah, I know.
- 38:34Speaker 4: I know.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Wait, who's 29? Maddie.
- 38:36Speaker 4: And Maddie has the two kids, right? She has three.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Oh, she's three now. Okay. So I think it's really
- 38:44Speaker 1: fun that we, you know, saw them grow up. I
- 38:47Speaker 1: know none of them wanted a polygamous life. Several of
- 38:50Speaker 1: your kids and Christine kids have married and it's fun
- 38:54Speaker 1: to see them have the babies and all of that.
- 38:58Speaker 1: And also that they have led really normal lives. And
- 39:02Speaker 1: I think that is really fascinating in they, in them, like,
- 39:07Speaker 1: going like when you guys were at the cul-de-sac in
- 39:09Speaker 1: Las Vegas and stuff. So they would just go to
- 39:12Speaker 1: normal school and nobody said anything or anything?
- 39:17Speaker 4: Maybe because it was Vegas. I don't know.
- 39:19Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe.
- 39:21Speaker 4: I mean, maybe.
- 39:22Speaker 1: We won't talk about your parents. You don't talk about ours, right?
- 39:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:26Speaker 4: I don't I think it was just kind of like
- 39:28Speaker 4: it was like okay cool like hey we had an
- 39:30Speaker 4: I had a neighbor when I lived in Vegas that
- 39:32Speaker 4: went to work dressed as Elvis in a pink Cadillac
- 39:34Speaker 4: every night so maybe.
- 39:35Speaker 6: It's just out it was just out you know maybe
- 39:36Speaker 6: it was just Vegas but for them it was just
- 39:39Speaker 6: like a it was an icebreaker right there was never
- 39:42Speaker 6: really any prejudice like it was sort of like oh
- 39:44Speaker 6: hey you're.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Those guys okay cool like you know and Hunter played
- 39:47Speaker 4: football and Maddie was doing a body and like Logan
- 39:49Speaker 4: wrestled and like Garrison was in the JROTC or whatever.
- 39:54Speaker 4: You know what I mean? Like, so they just had
- 39:55Speaker 4: normal lives. Like it just sort of like, it was
- 39:57Speaker 4: kind of like, I think kids are pretty easy. I
- 40:00Speaker 4: don't think kids are, I don't think kids.
- 40:03Speaker 1: But again, it was sort of unique if I compare
- 40:05Speaker 1: it to the other reality shows that are a lot more,
- 40:08Speaker 1: You know, glossy in Hollywood, it seems like the kids
- 40:11Speaker 1: perform for the cameras or one really kind of wants
- 40:14Speaker 1: a bigger career in the cameras. I know your kids
- 40:16Speaker 1: like went to college and like lived their own thing. Now,
- 40:20Speaker 1: I always thought that the cul-de-sac was like the greatest
- 40:23Speaker 1: situation for a polygamous family ever. Everyone had their own family.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Easy for him to get from house to house if
- 40:29Speaker 1: he forgot his favorite shoes. So when he decided to
- 40:34Speaker 1: let's we found this land in Florida. off Coyote Pass.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And you always seem to be the most like accommodating, like,
- 40:43Speaker 1: all right, I guess we're doing this. But I remember
- 40:46Speaker 1: saying this to Christine, like looking back now, of course,
- 40:49Speaker 1: you can never say it could have, would have, should have,
- 40:51Speaker 1: but I'm going to kind of say could have, would have,
- 40:53Speaker 1: should have. Do you think if you guys never had
- 40:56Speaker 1: left the cul-de-sac, I feel like the minute you left
- 41:00Speaker 1: the cul-de-sac and then add COVID to it, And then
- 41:04Speaker 1: this incredible challenge of building either one big house or
- 41:10Speaker 1: four different, five different houses, whatever, on this land that
- 41:15Speaker 1: isn't part of a community that already has electricity and water.
- 41:18Speaker 1: And like, do you ever wonder if things might have
- 41:23Speaker 1: been different? Probably, you know, or it's good that it
- 41:27Speaker 1: all happened because you would have just been staying in
- 41:29Speaker 1: the same state of mind for another 10 years.
- 41:33Speaker 4: You know, I think it would have come to the
- 41:37Speaker 4: same eventual outcome. I mean, the children were getting older.
- 41:40Speaker 4: I mean, that was a factor. I think that was
- 41:42Speaker 4: a big factor that the children had kind of their
- 41:44Speaker 4: own opinions. And I think the cracks were already there.
- 41:50Speaker 4: I do. I'm actually kind of glad that we moved
- 41:54Speaker 4: to Flagstaff. I think it gave me a lot more
- 41:59Speaker 4: freedom to lead, you know, to be... I wasn't as
- 42:03Speaker 4: encumbered here. I didn't have a mortgage. Some of those
- 42:07Speaker 4: things that made it a little bit easier to exit.
- 42:09Speaker 4: But I think that it would have eventually unraveled. Because
- 42:15Speaker 4: at the crux of it is Cody's relationship with his children.
- 42:19Speaker 4: And then also, too, that the three marriages that he
- 42:24Speaker 4: had were sort of starting to wane, to crash. to
- 42:28Speaker 4: fall apart. You know, he's just, he obviously has some
- 42:31Speaker 4: sort of, he says some sort of soulmate relationship with Robin.
- 42:36Speaker 4: We could have continued if he had been able to
- 42:39Speaker 4: maintain relationships with everybody in a fair and equitable way.
- 42:43Speaker 4: But I just don't think he had it in him.
- 42:45Speaker 4: You know, he turned 50 and that was a time
- 42:48Speaker 4: where he really took stock of his life. And I
- 42:50Speaker 4: think he just decided it was too much for him.
- 42:54Speaker 4: That's me. You'll have to ask him, but that's, that's
- 42:56Speaker 4: kind of what I see happening.
- 42:58Speaker 1: And so you started to see that where between the
- 43:01Speaker 1: kids being older, living in all these different distances away
- 43:05Speaker 1: in Flagstaff, and then add the COVID stuff where, oh,
- 43:09Speaker 1: I can't see you or the kids can't see me
- 43:11Speaker 1: or interpreting them as being disrespectful and stuff. I think
- 43:15Speaker 1: as a viewer, I think that, you know.
- 43:20Speaker 1: I think the ultimate sister wife thing is that you're selfless.
- 43:25Speaker 1: You're selfless. You put your husband above you. You put the,
- 43:29Speaker 1: I can't be jealous or I have to love my
- 43:32Speaker 1: sister wives, even though we're all loving the same man.
- 43:35Speaker 1: And then, of course, the kids come next or first.
- 43:39Speaker 1: So I think it's a very selfless thing. And I
- 43:41Speaker 1: think that with you and Christine, I mean, you know,
- 43:45Speaker 1: that you had accepted that he wasn't that great of
- 43:49Speaker 1: a partner to you. But once you saw that he
- 43:52Speaker 1: wasn't being the father that he once was is where
- 43:56Speaker 1: I think as a viewer, you guys started to really
- 44:00Speaker 1: check out.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Well, first of all, I need to kind of go back.
- 44:04Speaker 4: There are some cultural assumptions that are hard to not make, right?
- 44:07Speaker 4: I mean, in some of the more fundamental polygamous cultures,
- 44:15Speaker 4: I mean, that might be a belief, but definitely, we
- 44:17Speaker 4: definitely consider ourselves as individuals and that our needs are important.
- 44:22Speaker 4: And we feel actually probably I would advocate for my children, um,
- 44:27Speaker 4: far above Cody's needs. Like I wouldn't have been that
- 44:30Speaker 4: Cody was somebody that we needed to, to, you know,
- 44:34Speaker 4: put it on this pedestal or honor as some sort
- 44:36Speaker 4: of head. It was more of a, we really did
- 44:38Speaker 4: work together as a team. It was an inequality thing, really. Um,
- 44:43Speaker 4: I just think, um, I just think it was that
- 44:46Speaker 4: the children were getting older and they had different opinions. Um,
- 44:51Speaker 4: it became harder for him to sort of lead his family.
- 44:55Speaker 4: You know, he, he had a hard time finding much
- 44:58Speaker 4: common ground when he disagreed with the kids so much.
- 45:02Speaker 4: I just, I, it might've just been a natural evolution
- 45:05Speaker 4: of the age of the, of the children and everything
- 45:09Speaker 4: just kind of starting to disintegrate.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Now, now Christine made it very clear over and over
- 45:16Speaker 1: in the show that it seemed like it was they
- 45:20Speaker 1: were not being intimate at all or very, very, very
- 45:25Speaker 1: infrequently over the last decade of their relationship. But you've
- 45:30Speaker 1: sort of insinuated that that wasn't really the case with
- 45:32Speaker 1: you guys.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Oh, no, it wasn't for us. I mean, that's why
- 45:36Speaker 4: I've said Christine and I have that. Christine and I
- 45:38Speaker 4: had very different marriage relationships, for sure.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And so then since you were still as an intimate relationship,
- 45:46Speaker 1: was that... like more heartbreaking than to make the hard
- 45:50Speaker 1: decision of like, I just don't want to be part
- 45:52Speaker 1: of this anymore.
- 45:54Speaker 4: No, really for me, the decision was that the relationship
- 45:57Speaker 4: was just waning. Like we, we had grown very distant. Like,
- 46:03Speaker 4: I mean, we were still friends. Everything was, you know,
- 46:05Speaker 4: we all, you know, he was still, he still came
- 46:08Speaker 4: around on kind of a regular schedule. He was still,
- 46:11Speaker 4: we're still going through all the motions, but I think
- 46:14Speaker 4: we both had sort of emotionally drifted away. Um, and
- 46:17Speaker 4: so for me, it was really more, I remember thinking
- 46:24Speaker 4: when he had such a big break with the kids,
- 46:26Speaker 4: cause the kids are what had kept me in the relationship.
- 46:29Speaker 4: Cause I didn't want to rock their world too much.
- 46:31Speaker 4: I really wanted to make sure that my kids, there
- 46:34Speaker 4: was too much cost to the kids. I felt like
- 46:36Speaker 4: in leading their father, but when that sort of fell
- 46:39Speaker 4: out of the equation, I'm like, oh, I could leave.
- 46:42Speaker 4: And it felt like it was time to, you know,
- 46:44Speaker 4: he was starting to make a lot more noise. about,
- 46:47Speaker 4: you know, he really liked the way that Robin treated
- 46:50Speaker 4: him as head of, you know, all the things, like
- 46:52Speaker 4: all the things about Robin that he really liked. And
- 46:55Speaker 4: I just thought, you know, I think it's, I think
- 46:59Speaker 4: it's time. Look, marriages, they, relationships ebb and flow, right?
- 47:03Speaker 4: You know that. You've been in a relationship long enough,
- 47:05Speaker 4: you know, it ebbs and flows. And we have had
- 47:08Speaker 4: those periods in our marriage where it ebbs and flows,
- 47:10Speaker 4: but this was different. This was definitely very different from that.
- 47:15Speaker 1: And I mean, in chronicling it on the reality show and,
- 47:21Speaker 1: you know, not to like break the fourth wall, but
- 47:23Speaker 1: was there ever a thought of like, well, how would
- 47:27Speaker 1: this work for the show? Or was it always like,
- 47:31Speaker 1: you can all follow us the way you've been following
- 47:33Speaker 1: us at the different houses. Why does it matter?
- 47:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Like, I feel like the show has only gotten better. Like,
- 47:39Speaker 1: I'm more intrigued. I like seeing all the different families,
- 47:42Speaker 1: you know? But I wonder at one time it was like, well,
- 47:45Speaker 1: this is our livelihood. And like, what about that?
- 47:49Speaker 4: I remember when Christine started to make noise about leaving
- 47:54Speaker 4: because she was talking to my children. about it because
- 47:57Speaker 4: she was honestly testing the waters because she wasn't going
- 48:00Speaker 4: to leave if it was that she would lose that
- 48:02Speaker 4: relationship with the kids right that was for first and
- 48:05Speaker 4: foremost so she was kind of testing the water with
- 48:07Speaker 4: them and I started to hear about it and I
- 48:13Speaker 4: did worry I'm like okay so what does this mean
- 48:15Speaker 4: for our life because here we are in these houses
- 48:17Speaker 4: all together like what does this look like because that
- 48:20Speaker 4: could be major it could make big big changes right
- 48:22Speaker 4: and um in a the show and then b just
- 48:26Speaker 4: how do we do this how do we do this
- 48:28Speaker 4: so I don't know if it really kept us together
- 48:31Speaker 4: longer but there was definitely some thought about well how
- 48:34Speaker 4: does this change things right I think ultimately at the
- 48:39Speaker 4: core and I don't know you'd have I mean maybe
- 48:41Speaker 4: you've talked to Christine for me it was really about
- 48:42Speaker 4: the kids when I no longer felt that um there
- 48:47Speaker 4: would be too high of a cost emotionally for the
- 48:49Speaker 4: kids I felt like I was okay so we.
- 48:52Speaker 1: Yeah And with, um, so, so we see, you know,
- 48:58Speaker 1: we see like one thing that Christine said, she said
- 49:01Speaker 1: on my show. And then I just saw it on
- 49:02Speaker 1: one of the episodes recently is she said, now that
- 49:05Speaker 1: I have fallen in love with David, I understand what
- 49:09Speaker 1: a soulmate is. And it seems like she almost forgave
- 49:14Speaker 1: Cody a little bit in saying, yeah, if like, if
- 49:18Speaker 1: I had three men or whatever, I wouldn't want to
- 49:21Speaker 1: leave David to go visit the other ones because I
- 49:24Speaker 1: feel a stronger connection, this soulmate connection. And so my
- 49:29Speaker 1: question was in, you know, in bringing Robin in and
- 49:32Speaker 1: you guys said, you know, she was very giving about
- 49:36Speaker 1: the wedding. She wanted it to be about the whole thing.
- 49:38Speaker 1: She's cried and said, I never wanted to be the
- 49:41Speaker 1: only wife. I wanted the polygamous life. I wanted, she
- 49:44Speaker 1: wanted the big house, the coyote hip house. She wanted
- 49:46Speaker 1: to raise all the kids together. Was there any moment
- 49:50Speaker 1: where before it kind of really came to a head
- 49:53Speaker 1: that you felt like, Oh, Whoa, there is something different
- 49:58Speaker 1: going on with them that it might be whatever, be
- 50:04Speaker 1: on a totally different level than us, than me, than Christine,
- 50:07Speaker 1: and then Mary?
- 50:08Speaker 4: You know, look, every relationship was different. And I was
- 50:15Speaker 4: really happy with what I had. I was very comfortable.
- 50:17Speaker 4: I was very independent. I learned early on to kind
- 50:21Speaker 4: of communicate with Cody what I needed from him. And
- 50:24Speaker 4: I was pretty confident in my own... I'm confident in
- 50:27Speaker 4: my own skin. And so I could see that there
- 50:29Speaker 4: were some differences in that relationship. It didn't really bother
- 50:32Speaker 4: me because technically, part of the growth trajectory for men
- 50:37Speaker 4: is that they need to learn to be able to
- 50:39Speaker 4: manage and have capacity for all those relationships. Right. And
- 50:44Speaker 4: so I saw it. It didn't bother me. In fact,
- 50:47Speaker 4: my kids now are like, oh, mom, didn't you see
- 50:49Speaker 4: him do X.
- 50:50Speaker 3: Y, Z?
- 50:50Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know. I just I just wasn't tracking.
- 50:54Speaker 4: It didn't I didn't need to track it. I was
- 50:56Speaker 4: OK in my life. I was OK in my relationship.
- 51:00Speaker 1: And when the kids were little, because you guys did
- 51:02Speaker 1: everything together, you had a like executive career relationship. outside
- 51:09Speaker 1: the home or what did you do? What was your
- 51:13Speaker 1: job that brought in an income while Christine helped kind
- 51:17Speaker 1: of rear the younger kids while you were working and
- 51:19Speaker 1: bringing in an income?
- 51:21Speaker 4: I worked in sort of an admin type position, administrative assistant, clerical.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Then I got an account. I finished my accounting degree.
- 51:32Speaker 4: I went back to school full time in my early 30s.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Gabriel was just a baby I was working full time
- 51:39Speaker 4: and I finished my accounting degree and so I did
- 51:41Speaker 4: have I had a brief season where I worked as
- 51:44Speaker 4: an accountant but then the show came so I didn't
- 51:46Speaker 4: do that very long so I always had I had
- 51:48Speaker 4: a lot of I worked for several government agencies caseworker
- 51:54Speaker 4: I did lots of different things but.
- 51:57Speaker 1: And that was something that was an arrangement that both
- 52:00Speaker 1: you and Christine liked that you had that you were
- 52:04Speaker 1: working outside of the home and she was working inside
- 52:07Speaker 1: the home with all the kids.
- 52:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know. It sort of just evolved that way.
- 52:11Speaker 4: I always had a career before. I always had a
- 52:14Speaker 4: job that was more career oriented before I married Cody.
- 52:18Speaker 4: And I just continued working. in those spaces. And Christine
- 52:22Speaker 4: really did want to be home more with the kids.
- 52:25Speaker 4: And she had the skill set for it. She didn't
- 52:27Speaker 4: get freaked out by a bunch of mess in the
- 52:29Speaker 4: kitchen because they can clean, she makes, she gets it
- 52:31Speaker 4: so they can clean it up really fast. I would
- 52:32Speaker 4: be like, Oh, it would be too much for me.
- 52:34Speaker 4: Like she was perfect to be home with the kids. Yeah.
- 52:36Speaker 1: Yeah. And then when he made references and when I
- 52:39Speaker 1: saw you guys both at the us weekly party, I
- 52:41Speaker 1: was like, I brought this up. He, it's like, he
- 52:44Speaker 1: got angry Cody, because now you guys are, as you know,
- 52:49Speaker 1: in the last few years have really formed a really
- 52:51Speaker 1: beautiful bond, friendship and true sisterhood, you know, like your
- 52:56Speaker 1: real sisters. And, um, And he was like, you know,
- 53:00Speaker 1: you know, he's like so pissed because I'm sure there
- 53:04Speaker 1: were times just like any other family where you might have,
- 53:09Speaker 1: you know, bitched a little bit about Christine and Christine
- 53:12Speaker 1: bitched about you. And he felt like he was he
- 53:15Speaker 1: he's like, I deserve the Medal of Honor because back
- 53:18Speaker 1: in those days I was able to manage this all.
- 53:21Speaker 1: And now you guys have kicked me to the curb
- 53:23Speaker 1: and now you're besties.
- 53:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 1: And I think that's the truth. I mean, it could be.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Yeah. I mean, there is definitely some truth there. But,
- 53:31Speaker 4: you know, it's true because now Christine and I, without
- 53:34Speaker 4: the conflict of trying to work out being all married, right,
- 53:39Speaker 4: in a marriage relationship. Um, all we have now are
- 53:43Speaker 4: the kids and all the crazy things that have happened
- 53:45Speaker 4: to us over our lives. You know, like I spent
- 53:47Speaker 4: as much time with her as I have my own sister. Really? Yeah.
- 53:51Speaker 4: All these crazy life stories. You're gonna be like, Oh,
- 53:52Speaker 4: you remember that? Oh, yeah. I remember like, you don't
- 53:54Speaker 4: even have to have those. Like, you know, I mean,
- 53:55Speaker 4: you have all that history, that shared history. So it
- 53:58Speaker 4: actually has made for a very beautiful friendship because like,
- 54:02Speaker 4: we just know each other.
- 54:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 54:04Speaker 4: We just know each other. We did this quiz where
- 54:06Speaker 4: we're like, what does she hate? I'm like, I know it.
- 54:08Speaker 5: I know.
- 54:09Speaker 4: Like, I know, you know, we know each other.
- 54:12Speaker 1: And so with with Mary, it always feel felt like,
- 54:16Speaker 1: you know, yeah, especially towards the end, you know, and
- 54:21Speaker 1: I think it must have been hard being that she
- 54:24Speaker 1: wanted to have more children and only had her one
- 54:27Speaker 1: child and. While you guys were, you know, probably, you know,
- 54:31Speaker 1: constantly taking pregnancy tests and, you know, getting pregnant, you
- 54:35Speaker 1: guys were pregnant a lot at the same time. And
- 54:39Speaker 1: so I would imagine that dynamic would be hard to
- 54:42Speaker 1: like you want to be happy. for your pregnancy. But
- 54:45Speaker 1: at the same time, I mean, I remember just even
- 54:47Speaker 1: with my own life, my sister and I both have,
- 54:50Speaker 1: you know, two kids each, but there was a time
- 54:52Speaker 1: where she was struggling to get pregnant and having miscarriages,
- 54:56Speaker 1: things like that. And then I tried to get pregnant
- 54:58Speaker 1: right away. I got pregnant and I kept it from
- 55:00Speaker 1: her for like, when I finally told her, she was like,
- 55:03Speaker 1: how far along are you? And I'm like 10 weeks.
- 55:05Speaker 1: And that made her feel worse. Cause she was like, Oh,
- 55:07Speaker 1: you didn't want to tell me, you know? So I
- 55:09Speaker 1: think that could have been really a difficult dynamic where you,
- 55:15Speaker 1: you know, you're thinking about someone else's feelings, but you
- 55:17Speaker 1: also deserve to be like happy and pregnant.
- 55:20Speaker 4: Yeah. So, um, are you asking kind of about the
- 55:24Speaker 4: dynamic between? Yeah.
- 55:25Speaker 1: Like, like I wonder if that had added, cause I
- 55:28Speaker 1: think as a viewer, um, we don't really understand. Like
- 55:31Speaker 1: we've heard little things when you, before the cul-de-sac, it
- 55:34Speaker 1: was that she was very strict and she didn't want
- 55:37Speaker 1: the kids coming through her living room to go to
- 55:39Speaker 1: one of the houses. And it was a pathway. And,
- 55:42Speaker 1: and that obviously built some resentment because it made your
- 55:44Speaker 1: life as, as you know, a contributing person to the
- 55:47Speaker 1: family with kids and stuff. Like really my kids can't
- 55:50Speaker 1: like walk through the living room. Like I get how
- 55:53Speaker 1: like those things can build up. And then, you know, why, why,
- 55:59Speaker 1: You are where you are now kind of.
- 56:01Speaker 4: So Cody has this, Cody wants to harp on this too.
- 56:05Speaker 4: Like you do not have to be friends to be
- 56:06Speaker 4: sister wives. You don't. I mean, our relationships come together very,
- 56:13Speaker 4: we believe very inspired. Like there's a lot of prayer.
- 56:16Speaker 4: There's a lot of discussion and stuff, you know, about
- 56:21Speaker 4: who's going to come into your family. And, and it,
- 56:25Speaker 4: Just because they're meant for your family doesn't mean that
- 56:27Speaker 4: they're going to be this personality that you get along with. Obviously,
- 56:31Speaker 4: they get along well with your husband. They make it
- 56:33Speaker 4: up that they're enough of a couple to be a couple.
- 56:36Speaker 4: But just because you're in a relationship with a marriage
- 56:39Speaker 4: with a sister doesn't mean that you necessarily always get along.
- 56:42Speaker 4: So for me and Mary, it was really just more,
- 56:44Speaker 4: we are very different personalities. very different personalities. And that
- 56:48Speaker 4: really was hard in the very beginning. Cause I sort
- 56:51Speaker 4: of went into this idealistically like, Oh, we're going to
- 56:53Speaker 4: all just be friends. And, but no, and that was
- 56:56Speaker 4: a kind of a hard realization that you weren't going
- 56:57Speaker 4: to always be friends. Um, um, Christian and I had
- 57:01Speaker 4: a lot more common in common, like with the way
- 57:04Speaker 4: that we viewed things, we viewed the world a little
- 57:06Speaker 4: bit more, but so for Mary and I, what we
- 57:08Speaker 4: did is we actually learned how to be able to
- 57:09Speaker 4: work together as a team and outside of the family relationship. Um,
- 57:16Speaker 4: when that no longer existed, there wasn't really a whole
- 57:18Speaker 4: lot of anything that we needed to interact about. We
- 57:22Speaker 4: have no ill will towards each other. We just don't
- 57:24Speaker 4: have anything that we run. We, we do together. You
- 57:29Speaker 4: will see in this upcoming season though, we actually do
- 57:32Speaker 4: find something that we work together on and it's good.
- 57:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 57:37Speaker 1: And, um, Yeah, it's, you know, and then she, we
- 57:42Speaker 1: see that she kind of had her own thing going
- 57:44Speaker 1: with her, her Airbnb or bread and breakfast. And that
- 57:48Speaker 1: was a whole nother state away. And now, you know,
- 57:51Speaker 1: the real juicy thing that happened with her was the
- 57:53Speaker 1: catfishing thing. which I find really fascinating on, it was
- 57:59Speaker 1: almost like ahead of its time. Now I feel like
- 58:01Speaker 1: there's so many documentaries on catfishing and whatnot and people,
- 58:05Speaker 1: and a lot of the common catfish stories that I've
- 58:08Speaker 1: recently followed are women posing as men to pursue sometimes
- 58:15Speaker 1: a girl they know, like a best friend. And they
- 58:18Speaker 1: get off on seeing their best friend get all excited.
- 58:21Speaker 1: And the guy, they constantly can't meet this guy. And
- 58:25Speaker 1: so I can see and then put on it that
- 58:29Speaker 1: she was, you know, had the fame from the show
- 58:32Speaker 1: and there's fans and there's social media and all that
- 58:35Speaker 1: kind of stuff. How did you guys find out? Did
- 58:39Speaker 1: you not know until we saw it like in the
- 58:42Speaker 1: tabloids or did you know prior that this was happening?
- 58:47Speaker 4: I had never heard of catfishing. I remember vaguely seeing
- 58:50Speaker 4: something on a TV listing and I thought, that's weird.
- 58:53Speaker 4: Why do they have a show about catfishing? I'm thinking
- 58:55Speaker 4: like catfishing, like you fish, you know what I mean,
- 58:59Speaker 4: for catfish. Like that old country song, like cats in
- 59:02Speaker 4: the dark or whatever, you know what I mean, whatever,
- 59:03Speaker 4: like catfish. So I didn't know, but I did think
- 59:09Speaker 4: that she was... acting different. Like she was acting very different,
- 59:17Speaker 4: less engaged with the family, that kind of thing. So
- 59:21Speaker 4: I think it's one of the most horrible things, like
- 59:23Speaker 4: what a horrible way to be. It's so much devastation.
- 59:32Speaker 4: And for what? Just because, I don't know, like you
- 59:36Speaker 4: can't have a real life or I don't know, you
- 59:38Speaker 4: can't make real friendships. I have no idea. I don't
- 59:40Speaker 4: understand it. So... Right.
- 59:43Speaker 1: And then the victim of it always is like, how
- 59:44Speaker 1: could I be so stupid? It's like, well, you weren't
- 59:47Speaker 1: being stupid. This person approached you and said that you
- 59:50Speaker 1: were fabulous and interesting. And she obviously wasn't. We know
- 59:53Speaker 1: now Cody never felt that way about her. So even
- 59:57Speaker 1: if she went to bed telling herself, oh, no, like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: he loves me because the covenant says he does. You know,
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: she didn't. So when she got it from somebody else
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: that was, you know, fulfilling a need and giving her
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: compliments and giving her attention, I really, I can't blame
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: any woman for engaging in that. You know, why wouldn't you?
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Yeah, let me do it. Let me answer that in
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: two parts. So I have to tell you that Cody,
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: as much as Cody wants to say now, oh my gosh,
- 1:00:24Speaker 4: it was horrible. I never loved them. I was there.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: I know what was said. I know how he acted.
- 1:00:31Speaker 4: That was not the case. Now he wants to sort
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: of revise history, I think. But then the second part
- 1:00:37Speaker 4: is I do think Cody and Mary's relationship was definitely
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: struggling at the time or at that point. And I
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: think I've watched a lot of times catfish fishers are
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: like more successful with women who are not getting their
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: emotional needs met.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Right. Totally.
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: I mean, it's just it's their it's their their victim profile.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: And meeting some of the people that Mary met, they
- 1:01:04Speaker 4: all sort of have a profile, right? That they think
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: they're vulnerable. So that these people are preying on these
- 1:01:09Speaker 4: vulnerable women. Yeah.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: And when it came down to, okay, because Robin's coming
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: into the family with three other kids and therefore it
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: would benefit her more than Mary, whose child is now
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: almost grown, the whole divorce thing, That didn't really involve
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: you and Christine because you guys didn't have the legal
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: marriage either. But did you at any time feel like,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: were you like 100% this is the right thing to do?
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Or did you feel like this was wrong to even
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: bring up or ask? I don't know how it came about.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: I don't know if Mary offered or how it came about.
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: What I remember is that Mary said that she had
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: felt impressed, like a spiritual impression that she should be
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: doing this.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: That's what I remember. And I remember when she said
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: something and we were all there together, I was so
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: shocked because Mary very much put a lot of value
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: in that legal, that legal relationship. And I thought, wow,
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: that's a pretty big sacrifice, you know, on her part
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: to do that. But we all understood it was so
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: that Robin, so Cody could adopt Robin's children. And, you know,
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: and we were fine. Like we just knew that was it.
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: It didn't really change things. I did have some concerns.
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: I remember addressing them with Cody and he reassured me.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: that it would be fine, that we would be fine,
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: that things changing.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: What was your concern that it would affect Mary later?
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: Actually us, like I worried that it affects Cody and I,
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: and I asked him point blank and he said, no,
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: everything is still the same.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: Because, because by him now really being married to Robin,
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: you felt it might affect your relationship.
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: Yeah. Just like the shift in dynamics. I wasn't, you know,
- 1:02:50Speaker 4: I remember thinking, I wonder if this is going to
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: affect us. And so I asked him and he answered
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: me and said, no, everything is everything is. And really,
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: it was like there was no big differences in our
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: relationship after that.
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: So when you get to Coyote Pass, he presents the
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: big house, which actually was stunning. And he was like,
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: this way kids can come home and visit and you
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: each have your own kitchen and da da da da.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Which is so funny. I just want my own kitchen,
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: which I kind of get. But as someone that doesn't
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: cook that much, I'd be like, who cares?
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: It's a hard thing. It's a hard thing. For some reason,
- 1:03:26Speaker 4: I do not know what it is. Even if you're
- 1:03:27Speaker 4: not someone who cooks that much, a kitchen is a very...
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: You want things a certain way. Maybe you want to
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: cook your... you got like I order a lot of
- 1:03:41Speaker 4: those meals in the mail because like they're so awesome
- 1:03:44Speaker 4: like they're so easy right right in the microwave or
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: whatever but you know like maybe you're the person who
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: wants to have the gourmet kitchen I mean like there's
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: a lot of conflicts that happen.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: I actually I take it back because I actually don't
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: like it when I'm cooking and my husband's like um
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: you know like kind of sniffing around and being like
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: are you using that pan are you cleaning so you're
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: right I get why you're just like I just want
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: my own thing yeah.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: Kitchen, obviously, because it's such a center part of the home.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: It's such a, it's such a, it's a heartbeat of
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: the home, right? Because everybody's in the kitchen at some
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: point in the day, right?
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: And it's just, it's just a very personal space. So
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: kitchens are hard to share.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: So when he brings up this plan, here, you can
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: all have your own kitchen, blah, blah. And of course,
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Robin wants it. And you're like down. Mary's kind of like, whatever.
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: But Christine was like, absolutely not. And I think she...
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: probably knew that she wanted to leave and was like, if,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: if this goes the next step, then like, it's like
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: when someone is on the verge of getting divorced and
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: then they don't really want to buy the next house
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: because they're like, wait, why would I do that? When
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I'm already thinking like how sometimes in a normal marriage,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: someone stalls a big, another move like that, or they
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: sell the house and they're like, let's rent. And then
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: you find out, and then one person files like a
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: year later. Cause they're like, I don't know if I
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: want to put all of our assets, get tied into
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: like a two-year building um but you you seemed you
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: know totally down and obviously you really liked that area
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: and then you got the trailer thinking maybe that would
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: help get things going somehow that you were there but
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: then the audience was very mad that you were living
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: on a train it was.
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: Such a temporary thing it really was a temporary thing
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: so i don't know where christine was at that point
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: i i you'd have to ask her and maybe you
- 1:05:36Speaker 4: already have I know that probably by the time COVID
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: came around and things started to go south, I know
- 1:05:44Speaker 4: that at that point, she's like, okay, I think I'm over.
- 1:05:47Speaker 4: I'm done with this. I don't know at that stage
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: of time. I know at that stage of time, her
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: biggest concern was that she would not be able to...
- 1:05:55Speaker 4: Cody would never really be home focusing with her. She
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: really liked Cody to be home and to be totally
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: focused at home. And Cody wasn't He always liked to
- 1:06:07Speaker 4: be sort of circulating and seeing all the kids, right?
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: So he wasn't ever home and just staying at her house.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: I do think she worried that she would see less
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: of him because everybody else would be so close proximity.
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: But I am totally putting words in her mouth and
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: you would have to ask her. Yeah.
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: I don't think it was that she, that she wanted
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: to leave. I mean, she, she and I had had
- 1:06:27Speaker 4: conversations through the years, even clear back in Vegas, which
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: is like, I really don't want to do this anymore.
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: I'm like, well, that's fine. You need to figure out
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: how to be able to support yourself, you know, and
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: all these things. Right.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: But I think it was that she was afraid that
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: she would not, have as much quality time with Cody.
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: I would bet. But you'd have to ask her. Yeah.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: But I think that, you know, when that moment came
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: where Mary, where she's like, I don't want to do
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: marriage with Cody anymore. And Mary's like, look at the mountain. Like,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: we're going to have this big thing. And the fact that, like,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: Coyote Pass never happened.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: I know. I still... A bane of mine. I mean,
- 1:07:05Speaker 4: it's still, I don't know.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: I don't know if you can tell us where you're
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: at with it now. Is that, are we going to
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: see it in the show or okay.
- 1:07:14Speaker 4: Yeah. But yeah, like, I mean, it's, it's a really
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: amazing place. Everybody who comes out is like, wow, it's
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: really amazing. It's amazing. It's an amazing place. And I
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: am very sorry that we weren't able to make something
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: happen here because it's beautiful. It's beautiful.
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: But I think Mary was just trying to cheerlead Christine
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: because we, I think we could all see the writing
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: on the wall at that stage, you know?
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: So then when Christine meets her guy, you're kind of like,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: from what I've seen, what you've said, you're like, I,
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I'm open to it, but I'm not going on the apps.
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I am also really, I'm also really fine being alone,
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: but I'm also, like I said, wouldn't be opposed to
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: joining another polygamous family. Do you still feel that way?
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: Um, I don't foresee that I will be, I really
- 1:08:04Speaker 4: would because I don't really know anybody. I'm not, I
- 1:08:06Speaker 4: feel like I'm not really going to those churches anymore. Like, um,
- 1:08:10Speaker 4: my faith is still very intact. Um, But I don't
- 1:08:15Speaker 4: know how I ever would. You know what I mean?
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: But I, I just think dating in this modern age
- 1:08:20Speaker 4: seems like brain damage. Like it just, it's crazy to me.
- 1:08:25Speaker 4: So I'm not looking, I'm really, Christine really did want
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: to find that. And I'm so not, I'm so about
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: like bringing my own dreams to fruition right now. So
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: if something organically happens and I don't know, I'm going
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: to be a farmer on 150 acres in North Carolina.
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: I don't know how many guys I'm going to meet
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: doing that.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Right. So, so you, so you, we see that you
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: guys are talking about it. So you now have the
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: land that you are going to build a home with
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: your daughter and her family.
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: Yep. And we're going to be a flower farmers. We're
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: going to have flowers. Whatever that looks like, flowers. Yeah.
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: Wouldn't it be so great to just come and be
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: in the flowers? We don't know what that looks like.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: We're sort of making this all up as we go.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: We know that we're going to have flowers. We know
- 1:09:13Speaker 4: we're going to have a home. We know people are
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: going to be able to come. That's all we know. Yeah.
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: Just flowers.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: Well, I mean, that's exciting. I'm like, I'm happy for you.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: Do you, I mean, you know, it looks like the
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: show is going to continue forever. I mean, do you
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: ever feel like, um, like, you know, I want it
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: to end or I want, or, or, you know, any,
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: and you ever think about it, it's been such a
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: big part of your life. I mean, it's been like a.
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: Third of your life. I know. It's so crazy. Um, Listen,
- 1:09:48Speaker 4: I'm here for as long as we are authentic and
- 1:09:51Speaker 4: are interesting. You know, I just don't want to be
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: not authentic. I want to be who we are. And
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: I love, you know, when I meet people in public,
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: like we have such great conversations because it's like all
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: the ice is broken. And like, they just kind of
- 1:10:07Speaker 4: tell me about their lives. And I love that part.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: I love that all these people are invested in what
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: I'm doing. You know what I mean? And I hear
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: so many interesting stories from them. So I like that
- 1:10:16Speaker 4: part of it for sure. as long as I can
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: be authentic and we're interesting, I'm game, you know?
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: And, you know, in one of the episodes as Mary's leaving,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: they like, she and Cody have this like funny laugh,
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: but like they have a moment where they were laughing and,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and I wonder if, you know, that will be the
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: next chapter of your show is that once, now that
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: this is done, the herd is done, everyone really kind
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: of moves on. you, I mean, you know, that you
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: guys can laugh and have your grand, your co-grandparenting moments together,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: you know?
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: Um, I, I, of course that would be wonderful. There
- 1:10:54Speaker 4: is a lot of work Cody would need to do
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: with his children a lot. So it won't be soon.
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: I don't think. Yeah. Um, yeah. So like, but you know,
- 1:11:04Speaker 4: there's always a lot of interaction. Christine and I You know,
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: I mean, they always, and Mary and Cody and Robin
- 1:11:15Speaker 4: always have something going on too.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: And as Robin said, you know, crying, I feel like
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the idiot that was left here and I wanted to
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: sit on a porch with my sister wives. What if
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: a year from now, they say Cody is courting this
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: other woman?
- 1:11:33Speaker 4: I don't think it will happen, but I think he
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: really does.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: You never know.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: I really don't think so because he doesn't really even
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: embrace the LDS faith anymore. Like he doesn't even consider
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: himself really a Mormon or LDS anymore. And I just
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: think he really did decide it was too much for
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: him to just manage. He really does love Robin. It
- 1:11:57Speaker 4: appears they have a great relationship. That's wonderful. You know,
- 1:12:02Speaker 4: I don't foresee it. I don't.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: So, so none of you guys really, I remember watching
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: the show and it seemed like oftentimes you kind of
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: have like your own little church going, like you bring
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: out the scriptures or whatever. And then, you know, and
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: then Mary felt she wanted to go to this old
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: church where you're like, gosh, who even goes there anymore
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: to get like her release. But does anybody, is anybody
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: really active in any other church where you actually attend
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: like a brick and mortar church on a regular basis?
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: Um, interestingly enough, you're going to see some of that
- 1:12:35Speaker 4: play out this season.
- 1:12:36Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:12:37Speaker 4: So yeah.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Good. Well, I so enjoyed getting to know you on
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: a more personal level. Um, yeah, there's something about the show.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: It's unlike any other. And it's very calming too. Do
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: people tell you that too?
- 1:12:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Something that's like the simpleness of it. And like, there's
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: just something that's like, you know, the same way people say,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Oh God, I can't watch this. housewife shows anymore because
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: they're fighting it gives me anxiety or the same way
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: some people go I like the Hallmark Channel because I
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: know no one's getting murdered it's like even though there's
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: drama and stuff with you guys there's something that the
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: way it's shot and the familiarity that I think that's
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: why people can keep coming back and like really look
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: forward to it do you hear that a lot yeah and.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: I love too that multi-gen will watch it so like
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: we I get I meet these women they're in their
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: like early 20s like oh I watch it with my
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: mom or I hear that sisters they all like watch
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: they put the kids to bed they all call each
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: other during the show like it provides this very interesting
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: format for people to connect which I think is awesome
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: what a fun extra side benefit right that we're providing
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: a way for for people to connect with their their families.
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: Or friends what about the fact that then there was
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: another show Seeking Sisterwise did you ever watch it.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: It was always too much. Because you have to understand,
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: for us, plural marriage is very sacred. And there's some
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: very specific rules about no intimacy outside of marriage. We
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: are a family structure. This isn't just like, hey, I'm
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: going to go cruising and get a girlfriend or whatever.
- 1:14:12Speaker 4: I always felt like it was definitely not who we were.
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: And so it was a little cringy for me to watch.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: Because I'm like, I hope people don't think that that's
- 1:14:20Speaker 4: who we are. Because it was just a different way
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: of approaching marriage. Yeah.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I mean, I watched it and it was interesting, but yeah,
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: it did. It was felt very different from your show.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: And also sometimes it felt like the wife was willing
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: to have a sister wife because she just really wanted
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: a friend. And then when she found out the girl
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: didn't really want to hang out with her and she
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: really wanted to screw the husband, then she was like,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: I thought I was going to get a friend out
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: of this. So it's very weird and very different. But
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: last question, did you ever hear from people over the
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: years that did seek the polygamous lifestyle because they liked
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: what was displayed in your show and thought, I would
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: like this.
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: Over the years, there's been a handful of people maybe,
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: you know what I mean, that have looked into it.
- 1:15:09Speaker 4: But you have to understand, there's a lot of people
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: who are actually living polygamy in the United States. Not
- 1:15:16Speaker 4: hundreds of thousands, but there definitely are a lot of
- 1:15:18Speaker 4: people Um, usually it's part of our religion, right? Um, Hey,
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: and these guys have all got their baby mamas. I mean,
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: is that, you know, I mean, it's a really weird
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: version of what we do, like a very distorted watered
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: down version, but, um, I think I am really grateful
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: because we are no longer weird. Like, yes, we're unique
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: and that's, that's interesting, but there used to be such
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: a stigma and there used to be so much fear
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: and we had to be so our kids had to
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: be so secret. They were worried about the social repercussions.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: And now, you know, it's not weird. They're like, Oh,
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: Oh yeah. I watched that show or I've seen that
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: show or okay. Okay. And I'm like, I'm really glad
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: that we have potentially allowed people to be a little
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: bit more open because secrecy is where bad things happen
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: when you have to be secret. That's where evil men flourish. Yeah.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: Very true. Well, the show is every Sunday night. I
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: think we have a few episodes left.
- 1:16:21Speaker 4: You do.
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: And tell everybody like where they can follow you and
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: anything else you want to tell them.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: So definitely check out the show on Sunday nights on TLC.
- 1:16:32Speaker 4: And then I really, I'm a big Instagram girl. So definitely,
- 1:16:37Speaker 4: you know, Janelle Brown 117 on Instagram. That's where I
- 1:16:41Speaker 4: am a lot of the time as far as forward facing.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: Well, awesome. Well, thank you so much.
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: You bet.
- 1:16:48Speaker 6: All right.
