- 1:53Ketchum, and The Ting of the North. There we go. Yeah,
- 1:57I left my X Men ninety seven aka's behind this week. Shout out to
- 2:01everybody who's been listening to our reviews of X Men ninety seven. Yes,
- 2:07we might be back with an all star review next week. We'll see what
- 2:12happens. But today, tonight, whatever time you're listening to us, we
- 2:15are here to talk about Furiosa, a mad Matt saga, which we had
- 2:22the pleasure of seeing earlier this week in four d X. Yes, now,
- 2:29if y'all want to know a little bit about forty X, I would
- 2:31encourage you to pause here and go watch our and listen to our Dune review
- 2:37of forty X. That was our first at least for me, that was
- 2:39my first time in forty X and me too, you two okay, and
- 2:44understanding what that means for y'all that don't know at least in New York and
- 2:46the regal theaters, and this particular one in Times Square is the world's largest
- 2:52for d X theater. And what that is is it's literally you know how
- 2:54to go two D, three D and four D four D is the experience
- 2:59is all around. As the marketing goes, you are basically strapped into like
- 3:02a roller coaster type chair and you are thrown about, shaken, punched,
- 3:08jabbed, rained on, potentially spit on. It feels like half the time
- 3:14went and all sorts of things by little air pocketson. Literally, what it's
- 3:19trying to do is is trying to provide an environmental reaction to everything you're watching
- 3:24on screen. It's trying to match that and enhanced that experience. The first
- 3:29time we did it, we watched Dune, and that was not the first
- 3:31movie to be walked through. Doing it in forty X it was wild as
- 3:36fuck. Okay, So as you can imagine, we came away from that
- 3:39experience, even though I enjoyed the movie generally, we came away from experience
- 3:44with some PTSD. So we came here to Mad Max Socer like, oh
- 3:47shit, I don't know about this. Were about to get rocked in this
- 3:51forty X. Pleasantly surprised that we did not get rocked, but in fact
- 3:57it enhanced the experience, and I'm really proud of them. Good job,
- 4:02guys. You turned it down on going to ham on this. Appreciate you.
- 4:08I would say, I would definitely recommend this is one of the few
- 4:11movies you can watch in forty X and just be careful. Just be careful.
- 4:17Anything else on that forty X Before we get into our overall thoughts,
- 4:20Ben, I pretty much mirror everything you said, like I did not enjoy
- 4:24it at all in Doom Too. I'm still traumatized about that shit. There's
- 4:27a scene in doone Too that I'm dreading actually watching the movie again because I
- 4:31feel like it's just going to bring back those bad memories. So I haven't
- 4:35watched the movie again since a I will eventually be not right now and this
- 4:45time and I was the same way going in. I had trepidation and all
- 4:46that, but once I got in there, it was pretty smooth. I
- 4:50really enjoyed it. I mean I really I enjoyed Furios some more than I
- 4:55enjoyed Done Too. You know, I like Doom Too a lot. I
- 4:59just love furios and before we get into the like proper review, you know
- 5:02of it well a little caveat. I guess Fury Road is one of my
- 5:06favorite films of all time. Like I think Fury Road is a near perfect
- 5:12movie. I think George Miller, the director, is one of the greatest
- 5:15directors ever in Hollywood. And I just have such respect and such fondness for
- 5:19that film. I've watched it a many times. I've watched the black and
- 5:24white cut of it. I just love it. It's just in its I
- 5:28mean, it's just one of my favorite films in the story, Like it's
- 5:30got to be my top twenty exceptional. I'm also a big fan of I
- 5:35don't know if I'm a place is hot, but it's up there, like
- 5:39it's it's a. It's just a. And I will say, Firiosa made
- 5:43me remember how much I really actually loved Fury Road, right, Like it's
- 5:48it's as you said, it's everything you said about being so well done and
- 5:51the cinematography of it, and like it's such a it's somartly arranged too.
- 5:58It's like when we talk about symphonies of work, like this body of work
- 6:02is particularly furial. What we're talking about. It is a symphony of like
- 6:08what it means to understand filmmaking. I would say, like everything just works
- 6:13in concert so well together, and it gives you that lasting impression in your
- 6:16head and your memories, and like it's just something you don't really ever forget.
- 6:21So also a big fan of Fury Road, and again just I did
- 6:27enjoy Furiosa a lot. It just reminded me how much I really did love
- 6:32Yes, that being said, now, with Furiosa, I fucking loved it,
- 6:41dog Like that's that's the first thing. Like I was told I was
- 6:46smiling throughout the whole film. I remember smiling. Oh, I was sitting
- 6:53forward out full of attention. I was screaming out, yelling at parts.
- 6:57I definitely screamed what the fuck at what the scene? During this people have
- 7:01been talking about it. There's a I think nineteen minutes straight action scene,
- 7:05and about twelve minutes into it, I streamed what the fuck because I just
- 7:11couldn't believe how they kept ramping it up. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:15that twelve minute mark, I was just like all right, sah, you
- 7:17know that's when I just threw my hands up. Like I remember about thirty
- 7:20minutes in, I was like, Okay, this is you know, just
- 7:24good as Fury Road, and I'm gonna need to see this again. I
- 7:27remember I said that like thirty minutes in. Yeah, early. I mean,
- 7:30because, like I say, George Miller, I get it what he's
- 7:32been doing with these movies. It's from a writing perspective. They talked about
- 7:36how Fury Road there really wasn't much of a screenplay at all. It's really
- 7:40done just with storyboards and a really light spript because there's not much dilogue.
- 7:46There's more dialogue in this, but I'm sure there was a lot of it
- 7:50where it's the same thing like that nineteen minute sequence is a lot of storyboards
- 7:55and not much script. But I just I think what I really enjoyed about
- 8:01Furiosa was how much after I sat and thought about and I'm glad we had
- 8:05like a day or two to think about the film before we did o argue,
- 8:09how much it really makes Fury Road even better. It's one of those
- 8:13peoples that like Rogue One, it just yeah, it makes everything better around
- 8:20it. It's very Rogue One. And it also reminded me of its structure,
- 8:24not only because it is a revenge film, but because of the chapters,
- 8:28it's a very kill Bill type of film. Reminded me of kill Bill.
- 8:33Yeah yeah, you know, and any revenge film for that matter,
- 8:35because it's that saying it's not much We're not gonna do very much spoiler here,
- 8:39but it's not much of a plot. It is a revenge film.
- 8:43Furiosa is out for revenge, you know what I mean. And there's some
- 8:46other shit going on in her life that really feeds into Fury Road, but
- 8:50the overall thing is revenge. Yeah yeah, And I will say, well,
- 8:56it's a few things I wanted to say too about that, like do
- 9:00you have to have do you have to see Fury Road to enjoy for your
- 9:03No? No, However, Kamma, it does enhance the experience greatly because
- 9:11this functions like a rogue one where it puts it it puts some hot sauce
- 9:16on everything around it, Like you know, the meal was already delicious,
- 9:20but you know what I'm saying, the greens was already everything, but let's
- 9:22put some hot sauce on it. You understand, Like, that's what this
- 9:26does. So if you if you can go ahead and see it, and
- 9:31it does give you some more substance and more foundational, because again this is
- 9:37this is supposed to be before Fury Road and all that stuff. This is
- 9:39this is the coming up. This is the coming of age story of Furiosa
- 9:43and how she became who she is or who she was. But like,
- 9:48still it does help, and it does enhance your understanding of what's happening.
- 9:54It's not required whatsoever. So like if you're just like, oh, I
- 9:56didn't get to you're still gonna be okay. I think you're still enjoy it,
- 10:00but then definitely watch Ferry Road right after, just just to get yourself
- 10:05an understanding and just more context. Would I would definitely say, And I
- 10:09would also say, what did I want to say about this? That I
- 10:15had something else that I wanted to mention, but continue, Well, it's
- 10:18also I mean in that sense about with Rogue one. I think it's even
- 10:22I won't say better, but slightly different than Rogue one. And the fact
- 10:24that in Rogue one and spoiler for a movie that is now I can't remember
- 10:28how many years old, everybody dies and none of the main characters of Rogue
- 10:33one are very much involved in the Star Wars universe because their dead. You
- 10:37know. So this is more like you said, it's the origin story for
- 10:41Furio So, who is directly involved in Mad Matt Fury Road. So everything
- 10:46that we see in this film lends into her character. And because it's by
- 10:50the same director, the same writer, everything like that, George Miller.
- 10:54And actually George said that he wrote this before he wrote the script for Fury
- 10:58Road. Really yeah, yeah, he said he'd actually wrote the script for
- 11:01this first, and I tend to believe him having seen it, because there's
- 11:05so much in Fury Road that is it's playing in this film. The Road
- 11:09is just yeah, this explains where all the people we are, where a
- 11:16lot of the people we see in th Road come from, and why they're
- 11:20at the point that they are in Furior, especially in Furiosa, but even
- 11:24a lot of the main i mean minor characters like the Bullet farm Leader,
- 11:28the other big fat nigga with yeah yeah, the Titty Ring and then even
- 11:39my Man and Moreton Joe from the first film. You know, all those
- 11:43characters we get to see in this film, and so it lends into where
- 11:46they are and you know why they who they are in feriy D. So
- 11:50it's even more like intertwined than Rogue one. It is very entering, and
- 11:56that reminds me of what I was going to say, which is what Better
- 11:58Means said early about there's not necessarily a plot to be had, like there's
- 12:03stuff happening, obviously, but it is a story. It's a backstory.
- 12:07And because of that, do not, under any circumstances let anyone ruin or
- 12:11tell you what actually happens in this film. And we will not tell you
- 12:15specifics of every single thing. But really because the things that are happening are
- 12:18truly what the fuck at times, and not in a bad way, in
- 12:22a very like imaginative like damn, I did not think that they were gonna
- 12:26something like this would happen, right, I did not think I would see
- 12:31something like this, Like it's a lot of if you know anything about Mad
- 12:35Max, is a lot of ingenuity, literally like figuratively and literally, there's
- 12:39in terms of when it comes to mechanics, when it comes to tech,
- 12:43when it comes to movement, space and time, like how people dress,
- 12:48how people talk, how people everything. It's very it's it's very creative,
- 12:54highly creative and just things that you wouldn't think to put together. But you
- 12:58see the influences right fury roll, furiosa, that whole world about that,
- 13:05that whole idea of just a post apocalyptic wasteland mix with what is that masochism,
- 13:13mixed with just sheer violence obviously, mixed with dark comedy, and mix
- 13:20with also just just really abstract beauty to it. Like it goes really hard
- 13:26in a lot of different ways. And that's why that's why I say,
- 13:30like, just don't let people tell you exactly what happens during the movie,
- 13:33right like, cause people gonna be excited when they come out. Yeah,
- 13:35And I also don't think it's one of those things like you could describe to
- 13:39me that whole nineteen minute sequence and it wouldn't matter if you're explain what happened.
- 13:45It'd be like when somebody goes see a comedy show and they try and
- 13:46tell you the jokes afterwards they're bad, you know, they're like, oh
- 13:50God, I needed to see this because yeah, yeah, And even if
- 13:52they did tell you, it might just hype you up, because it's it's
- 13:56nothing that you have to see it, you know what I mean. It's
- 13:58just the way George Miller Durrett's action is second to none to me, and
- 14:05he did it again. You know. That was all I could say when
- 14:07that was my first thing. I deleted the treat but I was like,
- 14:09Yo, they did it again, you know cause it's just like I said,
- 14:13I thought, Fury Road is some of the best action that's ever been
- 14:16put to film, and I think Furiosa has that in spades, as well
- 14:20as a really dope story about Furiosa and who she is, and like we
- 14:26keep saying, how it just feeds into the whole world and it just really
- 14:28gives her character so much more pathos and gravitas. I guess it's like where
- 14:33it's like, you know, so much more of her. Yeah, and
- 14:35you're like, oh, when you're watching Fury Road, when she's spreaming in
- 14:41that's saying that I kind of shot her fall into her and to screaming into
- 14:43saying that shit is like, Oh. It's like recently, I've been rewatching
- 14:48the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the whole standard edition, and I just
- 14:52think they're fantastic, one of the best triples of all time. But when
- 14:54you watch them in quick succession, when you get to the third one,
- 14:58it's like, Yo, Sam and this nigga proto been fucking throw it it.
- 15:03Yeah, so you're like, God, damn niggas throw it. So
- 15:07when they get stressed, you understand it. And so that's the same thing
- 15:09with Furiosa Infurio. When you see what she why she's taking this ride,
- 15:13why she's so determined, you will understand all of that. And that's what
- 15:18I thought was really dope. Yeah, And one copy that I do have
- 15:22is like, this is an incredible movie. I will say that. I
- 15:26still at the end of the day, if I had to put them together,
- 15:30I do did enjoy. I do think I like Fury Road better.
- 15:35Yeah, and it's just and there is a particular reason why that I realize
- 15:39why. But but we'll get into that as we continue. Yeah, you
- 15:43want to talk about these characters been, I mean, I want to talk
- 15:46about Anna Taylor Joy. Yes, Anya, Anya Taylor Joy, Anya Taylor
- 15:52Joy character. Yeah, and you know she had a hard at the follow
- 15:56with Charlie's thereon first the wrong and I love I do too, who does
- 16:03it? And I'm not that familiar with Anya. I know she's a brilliant
- 16:07young actor, but oh my god, like just one thing that I have
- 16:14to talk about is how she transforms in this movie because there's another actor playing
- 16:19furio say as a very young girl, and she's also oh my god,
- 16:25stunny, stunny, you know. And then when Amya takes over, Furiosa
- 16:30is still quite young, and it's like, throughout the movie you just see
- 16:34her transform into from this younger version to the version that we know in Fury
- 16:41Road, and it's incredible. I feel like when you first meet her as
- 16:45Amya's like, damn, she looks like a baby still almost, and then
- 16:48quickly she has forced to grow up by Cita around. I mean, she's
- 16:52already been fucking through it. Don't get me wrong. Everybody in the world
- 16:55has been through it, and she's a hard ass from the jump. But
- 16:59that, you know, the young girl playing her is great showing you,
- 17:02you know, a kid in this world has been through it already. The
- 17:06young girl that plays the young actress that plays the young Furiosa, the kid
- 17:11Furiosa is ali Alilah Elilah Alila. I'm sorry if I'm mispronounce your name,
- 17:18but Elilah Brown. And again she does a phenomenal job like and also because
- 17:27and I will say that Furiosa has more dialogue than than Fury Road and when
- 17:33I think about it, I think they just spoke a lot more even in
- 17:37the absence thereof like when it was about really like character acting, like really
- 17:42showing your emotion and emoting and being able to speak through your eyes and stuff
- 17:48like that. Like she had it down because there were whole scenes where she
- 17:52was saying nothing and it was just her eyes and you could just read what
- 17:56was going on, and it was it was brilliant. And then that translated,
- 18:00as you mentioned, going on up to maybe the the late teens early
- 18:04twenties version of Furiosa, which is Anya Taylor Joy's version, right, and
- 18:10she carried like they carry that torch from one another, and it was really
- 18:15like it was an incredible Also even though it's the story, it's also like
- 18:18a tribute to Furiosa. And you could tell, like how much George loves
- 18:22that character, and you can't tell that's Fiosa's my favorite chatch in the Mad
- 18:26Max saga, so in the Mad Max universe. So just they they did
- 18:32Furiosa justice. Yeah, and I'm really happy with just not only the through
- 18:37line through all the different stages of life that you see of Furiosa in this
- 18:41film, but just the the aura and the gravitas that was brought. Yeah,
- 18:48no, I think you know, I've already said, I think she
- 18:49did a fantastic job, like you said, throughout every day, even when
- 18:53she just having to emote. I know she did a lot of the stunts
- 18:56herself. You can see it in the film and it streat Uh what you
- 19:00were just talking about that, I do want to mention because I've got the
- 19:03NBA playoffs in the background, and avoid the commercials, y'all because they're showing
- 19:07some of the illest sequences of the commercials already. I'm like, don't tell
- 19:11let nobody talk. I'm tight, and it doesn't matter. It's different when
- 19:15someone tells you versus you see it. Yeah, when you watch it worse.
- 19:18Yeah, I've got someone told me about that than what I just saw
- 19:22on screen. I'm glad I already saw it, But if I just seen
- 19:26that sequence on screen, I would have been mad. But that's one of
- 19:30the illest sequences and it's like, you got to see it all unfold the
- 19:33trailer on that on the marketing Listen. This is what I'm saying, Like,
- 19:38I know it's like and that's part of my job. We gotta watch
- 19:41trailers and talk to y'all about it. But half the time I'm just like,
- 19:44damn, I don't want to see the trailer. I want to I
- 19:45want to be fresh when I sit in the theater. And thankfully I didn't
- 19:48know either the early stuff that came out, I didn't watch much. I
- 19:52was just like, no, I'm going to so I didn't already know.
- 19:55Yeah, same, okay, I used to watch any of the trailers,
- 19:57souse. I was like, I'd already know. I'm going to see this
- 20:00movie as soon as I can. It was dead ass. Oh my god.
- 20:03Every time something went down, anything else you wanted to mention about Anya
- 20:07or do you want to move on to you? We can move on.
- 20:08She's a beast. So the other person. If you see like a lot
- 20:11of the a lot of the flyers, you'll see you'll see Furio say,
- 20:15and you'll see another nigga that looks pretty familiar. He's not Thor this time.
- 20:21But Chris Hemsworth playing doctor Dementis. The doctor was not earned. He's
- 20:26just Dementus. That's not I mean, he's a doctor being. He earned
- 20:30that that. I didn't realize this, and Ben Ben gave me some detail
- 20:37before we started recording, but I didn't realize just how strong of an actor
- 20:41Chris Hemswer was when it came like literal to use his name, like some
- 20:47demented type ship, like some ship where you really gotta you really gotta think
- 20:52off kilter to be like delivering certain lines, delivering certain energy and approach to
- 20:56other characters like you really gotta you just can't be a pretty boy actor,
- 21:00like you really got to have some substance in you. And Chris as good
- 21:06as fun, like he fucking delivered. And I haven't watched too too many
- 21:10movies with like just starting him right like that. But this is Robbie,
- 21:14one of his best roles I've ever seen him in. All Right, I
- 21:18googled it real quick, and I want you to google this. Why I
- 21:21tell you this, Google Bad Times at the l Royale because I want you
- 21:23to see the images of him's worth that pop up when you google the movie.
- 21:27All Right, If y'all don't know like Tatanna isn't aware of his acting
- 21:30as I am, I peeped him in. He was in the remake of
- 21:36National Lampoon's Vacation and he plays the antagonist in that. And he's fantastic,
- 21:41and he's like a straight asshole, but he's an asshole in the vein of
- 21:45someone who knows they're Chris Himsworth, you know. And then there's Bad Times
- 21:48at the l Royale, which is a thriller from twenty eighteen, where he
- 21:52is the villain, not only the antagonist, and he's a horrible, evil
- 21:56monster in that film, but he's terrifying. So I've been known that Himsworth
- 22:00was a great actor, like one doing comedy like The Thor, even though
- 22:03they went over the top and Love and Thunder. Doing that level of comedy
- 22:07takes acting. You know, comedy is harder than dramas. When you can
- 22:11pull off the comedy, you can usually pull off the drama. And so
- 22:14when I knew he when I saw The National Lampoons, I was like,
- 22:17Oh, this nigga is stupid funny, not just Thor funny, like he's
- 22:19really funny. And then Bad Times I was like, oh, he a
- 22:23monster. So when they cast him in this, it was like, you
- 22:27know, I already knew I knew going in I was it was just like
- 22:33when they cast Christian Bale's Batman, because I'd already seen him in an American
- 22:36psycho, So I was like, you know, glorious, you know,
- 22:40perfect, And it was the same with this. I already knew he could
- 22:44play an asshole, and I knew he could play a monster. So I
- 22:48didn't know and as I said, this is this is one of his best
- 22:51roles I ever seen him. And just you can see the picture of bad
- 22:53times I did. Well, he's just standing in the rain with the chest
- 22:56out. Yep, look Chris Chris as doctor dementis he that is one of
- 23:04the funniest, most fucked up, darkest characters that I've seen, Like where
- 23:11you truly do not like this nigga at all. But it's also just like,
- 23:15but I do want to hear what he gotta say, like because it's
- 23:18like he's saying some wild ship every time. But it's just like you still
- 23:22like, I'm gonna listen to to the function he got to give, you
- 23:26know, to to to the audience. He's a motherfucker, but I still
- 23:30want to listen to him. And that's why that's a very hard line to
- 23:33rot, because a lot of people can't because it's a delicate balance because you
- 23:37could really easy easily turn off people, especially when you have a character that's
- 23:42such an asshole. But it's like both a fun and a hated asshole and
- 23:48it's and it's so weird and and I have to really stress, this is
- 23:52dark comedy. This is not he ha ha. None of that shit happening.
- 23:56Ain't no door whatever the fuck that the that ain't happening. It ain't
- 24:02none of that. This is like, did that nigga just say that?
- 24:06And did he just do that? Do that? And it's like it's like
- 24:11you would laugh right, you're laughing like a nervous and nervous laughter type way,
- 24:17not because you know that little giggle bank, yeah, nervous laughing,
- 24:19not because it was truly comedy. It was just like this nigga's crazy type
- 24:25stuff like he diabolical, diabolical, doctor Demnis Chris Hemsworth expression of doctor Dementis
- 24:34is truly diabolical and worth every minute of screen time. Infuriosa. I want
- 24:41to give a quick shout out to the radio host Doctor Demento, because he's
- 24:45somebody that I used to seek out and find his radio shows, and I
- 24:49feel like there's definitely a tribute with Doctor Dementis to doctor Dementto and doctor Demento
- 24:53is also someone who inspired people like combat Jet. So rest in peace and
- 24:57shout out to you know doctor doctor de Minto is still alive at eighty three.
- 25:03Yeah, I had to google it. I ain't. I ain't heard
- 25:03from that nigga since like high school. Fine, Yeah, white boys put
- 25:07me off to him back in the day. You know, he's I don't
- 25:10even know how they get this ship. It was weird, but he would
- 25:12do these weird radio shows and it was Dementon And so Doctor Dimensus. Now,
- 25:15as far as like I said, I already knew going in that Hemsworth
- 25:18was going to eat this role alive. I didn't know how good the role
- 25:22was, That's what I'll say. And I think Doctor Dimntus is a fantastic
- 25:26fantastical and even though this movie does have more dialogue than Fury Road, it's
- 25:30still very sparse and a lot of it is told through we said three moting,
- 25:33which Hemsworth we all know can do. But Hemsworth, I mean,
- 25:37Dementsus is bad story, which is told slightly in this film gives him enough
- 25:42weight where you feel for him at times. Even though this nigga's a complete
- 25:48monster, you know, out of control monster, I do I will say
- 25:52like there were times I was just thinking like, well, what's that?
- 25:56Like, what did he go through? Yeah, to get to who he
- 26:00is now? And that requires death, and that requires again balance and true
- 26:07some expertise there, because it's very easy to just see the rope bad guy
- 26:12quote unquote and be like, all right, that's the nigga down supposed to
- 26:15hate and you just don't think about anything about them ever again, like anything
- 26:18deep. Whereas this I was, you know, even like the times I'm
- 26:21like this nigga's fucked up, I'm also like, well what happened exactly?
- 26:25Like what's his backstory? Like I was actually interested? Okay, and then
- 26:32you will learn why. But to see the back and forth play between Doctor
- 26:37Domestic Superiosa and that dynamic was they they played off each other so well,
- 26:42and that dynamic when they did when they had the answer an opportunity too.
- 26:47It was like this a cinema they like, they fed off each other so
- 26:52well that I would love to see her in that store film, you know,
- 26:56just something. I don't care what role you know they give her,
- 26:59but just someone so she could play off four because I would love to see
- 27:03it because she they have a great chemistry, and it's a it's an ill
- 27:07chemistry in this film, but they definitely have a great chemistry. And like
- 27:11you said, that's what I came out of the film saying that was my
- 27:14first thing coming out. I was like, y'all, I'd love to see
- 27:17another prequel where there was the prequel to show him for falling to this evil,
- 27:22like a breaking bad in the world of Mad Max, because he's definitely
- 27:27full blowing Walter White in this movie. I don't know, I want a
- 27:30whole feature. I do want some some few what happened. I wouldn't want
- 27:34a whole fature just about doctor Dementis because at the end of the day,
- 27:37as some motherfucker, and I don't think he deserves all that shincessarily true indeed,
- 27:44but I am interested, like, well, you know, just give
- 27:45me some give me a little bit more to the cliff notes, but I
- 27:48don't need a whole three hours for him. Well since, yeah, I
- 27:53can see how they could work that in because what they are what George Miller
- 27:56has talked about doing is another film called match Wasteland, which would take place
- 28:02before Fury Road, just like this one does, but I think it would
- 28:04feature more on Mad Max in the Wasteland, in his travels and his leading
- 28:11up into Fury Road. Okay, because that was one big complaint, and
- 28:15I'm sure they're gonna come out in force again. The misogynists were super upset
- 28:21about Mad Match Fury Road because they felt like it was misnamed. They were
- 28:23like, they should have called a Furials because it was basically her story,
- 28:27and then it is along for the ride grunting, which is fine. And
- 28:32that's one of the reasons, one of the many, many reasons why I
- 28:34love you Me Too. It's one of my reasons too. It's one I
- 28:37would the reason why I love it so much is because one thing that is
- 28:41repeatedly said in this in Fury Road was who ruined the world? And it's
- 28:47implied that, you know, men had a big part of that. Women
- 28:49keep asking that question, and that's something that I just thought was so subversive.
- 28:52And who killed the world, as I think the line actually who killed
- 28:56the world? And I thought that was so, you know, just such
- 29:00a fire thing to put in your movie. Now, I'll always say that
- 29:04about Furiosa. I felt like this movie isn't as like where it's like men
- 29:10kill the world. It's more like everybody kind of did it and just watch
- 29:14it go down. It's just like because they put you in the middle.
- 29:17Because there's a very like the other one. There's a very brief point in
- 29:19the beginning where it first comes on, where they just you see basically you
- 29:25hear news blurbs right like people saying the world is falling and this is the
- 29:29economy is collapsing and the crops is dying. Like they just basically setting up
- 29:33to be like everything's shitty, okay, everybody down bad. It's not really
- 29:37blame about who's doing well who. It's like everybody's down bad and everyone's behaving
- 29:42down bad because of it, and that's all these people. That's the question
- 29:47that's asked in the beginning of this one, is like what indignities will you
- 29:49suffer, you know, as the world falls apart? Like what will you
- 29:53watch happen? And that's something like a friend of mine, a good friend
- 29:59of mine who I grew up with, who's been involved in military intelligence and
- 30:02all kinds of stuff. We talk about things like this and he's like the
- 30:03world's not going to fall apart, you know instantly, And I know that
- 30:07too. It's like that's one of my favorite books of parable The Sower,
- 30:11the Octavia Butler. And when I read that as a like, I read
- 30:15that book I think in high school, and it was one of them books
- 30:17where I read it. I put it down like, ah fuck, because
- 30:19I could recognize the signs already in my day to day life that they were
- 30:23seeing in that book. And we're seeing them more and more now. You
- 30:26know, there's a lot of decay in civilization or what we call civilization,
- 30:30et cetera. And meanwhile we're going to the movies, so you know,
- 30:34it's like we are all complicit in this thing. I saw there was this
- 30:38great quote in the comic book recently, like when in war, Like if
- 30:44you're part of the victory team and you're part of the empire and you're just
- 30:47chilling at home, you're still war, you know, like America is blown
- 30:52up, people all the around the world, and we're sitting at home like
- 30:55m M, watching movies, watching the game and shit. So it's like
- 30:57we're still part of the war, you know, we just have a different
- 31:02place in it, right, No, I get it, absolutely, Preatorian
- 31:08Jack so Latchie, and again I apologizes by myth pronouncing mad Mini Mad Mini
- 31:17Max Yeah Tom also also also known as Mad Max Jr. But in this
- 31:23film I Furiosa, he's called Pretorian Jack. Okay, I'm like, oh,
- 31:29I just feel like I feel like George put him in, like nigga,
- 31:32y'all shut the fuck up, Like yeah, like he was. He's
- 31:37clearly the Mad Max junior archetype, like I got, I was, like
- 31:40god it. But he is also and he had his name is his name
- 31:44Paetorian Jack. For reason, he's a Pretorian, which if you learned in
- 31:47the other films, that's what Curiosa is. She's a pretorian. She's just
- 31:51like in charge of the deliveries and and then she's a badass, right,
- 31:55She's the one who makes sure everything gets through the way he's supposed to get
- 31:57through. That's the that's the executioner. Roll right drives the big rig.
- 32:01She drives the big the big war rig, like the biggest, the biggest,
- 32:05the strongest, all that shit, and again responsible for the deliveries back
- 32:08and forth, getting getting the goods back to the citadel or wherever that it
- 32:14needs to go, and just making sure that even like through relentless attacks and
- 32:17brutal everything happening around them that they still make it through no matter what.
- 32:23So you have go ahead, you have you version of this praetorian Jack played
- 32:29by Tom Brike in this yep. And like it was established Infray Road,
- 32:32the main locations that still exist at least of these people who are in this
- 32:37region of the world are the Citadel in Australia, and they are in the
- 32:44original film, so I'll say they are here too. In the original mad
- 32:47Max films that start with Mel Gibson, it takes place in Australia. It's
- 32:52Australia. I thought everything's in Australia, Okay, I think so. I
- 32:55think it's still so if you take a place in Australia. So the main
- 33:00things that we see artists Citadel which is run by Morton Joe, and then
- 33:06we also had gas Town and bullet Town. You know, where they get
- 33:09the gas and where they get the book and everything in this world is literal.
- 33:13So the bullet Town is where they make bullets and guns and weapons,
- 33:19yes, and gas Town is where they make as they call it in the
- 33:21film, guzzoline. And I want to talk about that type of language later.
- 33:25But oh, that's all through Fury Road too, Like it's so it's
- 33:29so subtle but so hilarious. The ship they be saying the whole go into
- 33:34Valhalla. The thought chrome. I thought they were like like deliberate, like
- 33:40not jabs, but like poking fun at like everyone's like like even Chris Hams
- 33:45are himself being like known as being thoring ship like that, Like I thought
- 33:50like they threw some of that ship in. And isn't he himself Australian too,
- 33:52So like I thought they was throwing a lot of like random ship like
- 33:57that is could be related to him like as a as a wink. I
- 34:00think that is the case. And it's also because they do this Inferior World.
- 34:02I can't remember the line that always has me cracking up. But they'll
- 34:06make pop culture references that are fucked up because it's like they don't remember exactly
- 34:12what it was, and so they have like off brand pop culture references.
- 34:15But the whole you know, they're always covering themselves in the war The war
- 34:19Boys cover themselves in chrome. They have this whole worship of chrome, you
- 34:22know, which comes from the cars and all that. So that's you know,
- 34:27like they want to go into Vihala shiny and chromed up so they you
- 34:30know, spray themselves. But there's all the language is great in the minimal
- 34:36dialogue they have, and that's you know, just great world building. That's
- 34:38something that these films are fantastic at and furios that really does the job with
- 34:44is the world building. Yeah, but back to Mini Man Matt's praetorian Jack.
- 34:47I thought he did a fantastic job as well. Jobs the hell excellent
- 34:52connection with with you tell Joy's caster like like you you this is the as
- 35:00he's the archetype right that and again both an archetype and a mini mad Max,
- 35:06and you see those influences how they affect Furiosa, how that shapes and
- 35:10molds her as she gets older and things like that, like just just fantastic
- 35:15job. And then seeing them both it was giving very much lauded. Well
- 35:21that Bonnie and Clyde means reloaded where it's just like when I'm saying specifically about
- 35:25when it's just Neo and Trinity and they just running the gamut, they can
- 35:30going through just bo bop left right going hand, this is them, that's
- 35:35them. You said the magic word gambit, roguan gambit and that very very
- 35:40rogambic like that's actually even better analogy because the level of faith that brogan gambit
- 35:47having each other, Like how you mentioned gambit, like not like he not
- 35:52centinel back there, but he even looked back or blink twice. He already
- 35:54his mama got no, he knows rogue laying hands and it ain't nothing right,
- 36:00same same approach to Pretorian and Jack and Fieriosa. It is just that
- 36:02type of this nigga. They got it. Yeah, that's my roll,
- 36:07dog like they I ain't got no worries, I don't have to look.
- 36:12It's that. It's that. It's that playing basketball. Is that no look
- 36:15past to you put it to your partner like they got it. I always
- 36:19have a value for you. I'm always there. That's the type of approach
- 36:22it was, and it and it felt very fun because you mentioned Bonnie and
- 36:25Clyde. It had that fun aspect to it, like, oh, as
- 36:29long as they tagged him together, they tag team Championship partners were good.
- 36:35Everybody's getting thrown out the ring and they standing at the top of the top
- 36:40buck at the yell. They both standing at at top of the ladder bringing
- 36:45down the money in the bank suitcase. Easy, easy, Yeah, No,
- 36:51I don't know him from ship at all. And I thought he was
- 36:53fantastic because one, he doesn't have a lot of time to really and that's
- 36:58why he is an archetype character, because it doesn't have a lot of time
- 37:00to where you get you introduced him. But he does in the time that
- 37:05they give this character, he and you know, makes you fall in love
- 37:08with the character, makes you fall in love with him and furiosa. And
- 37:15I thought he did a fantastic job. I didn't expect him at all.
- 37:17I didn't know shit about PETI expect that. Yeah, And I didn't even
- 37:22know he was part of the film. And they was like okay, and
- 37:24this is awesome. Was like, okay, yeah, gotcha, gotcha.
- 37:28And morning Joe. He was in the Fury Road film returning again. That's
- 37:34the nigga with the with the ashen blonde hand, the weird, fucked up
- 37:38you know, bad built, beach blonde body, all that, all that
- 37:44mediocre. That's his famous line fact lea chie or lachi whom. Yeah,
- 37:52so I'm doing a horrible I'm pronouncing y'all names, but y'all got it.
- 37:55So and more than Joe's character is an interesting thing. Want and also just
- 38:00interesting the gravitation between Furiosa to more than Joe. I don't know, Like
- 38:07from the very early on in the film, you see Furiosa like gravitating towards
- 38:10him, and I don't know if I ever understood why. Maybe and maybe
- 38:15you noticed why. But it's just like from the very beginning, it's not
- 38:20to say she liked him. It's just like I'm intrigued by him, you
- 38:22know, more safety and power. Morton Joe has power in Furiosa is looking
- 38:29for somewhere to be safe at that po Okay, I don't think she's intrigued
- 38:31all by him. I think she's disgusted by him through as both people should
- 38:36be. I just think she knows that he can keep her safe at that
- 38:39point, and that's all furio is looking for, right, for safety,
- 38:43Okay, because the moment she can, she you know, does what she
- 38:45can to get away from him. But then if we see she's still evolved
- 38:49with the Morton Joe, right, which is why I'm just like, what
- 38:52is like, what is that dynamic about? Well, we see, you
- 38:55know, that's that's a bit spoiled. I don't want to exactly say why
- 38:59she's still with him Curio Road. But you know you see why, Yeah,
- 39:01I will say, And I don't think it's because it's still for safety.
- 39:06Like we said, there are three spots. There is bullet own and
- 39:14tells her three three places you could go and the laundromat yeah, or your
- 39:22house Or your house is the best one, Nigga. You could add like
- 39:25you want to hang out at the corner store, but you don't want to
- 39:28live. There ain't nowhere else to go. I want to give a big
- 39:32honorable mention, maybe even more than I will mention to Elsa Pataki who's in
- 39:37this She she's Chris Hamsworth's wife in real life, and she plays two cavaters
- 39:42in this film. She plays Vuvelini General and a woman called or perhaps a
- 39:47non binary character called mister Norton. I don't know who that was, you
- 39:53do, it was it was it was the It was the character at I
- 40:01don't want to say too much, but in a way, but it was
- 40:04the woman who ended up like being part of Dementus crew. Oh nice,
- 40:08yes, nice, Okay, yes, that job work. So that was
- 40:17a good enough distie for me, you know, I mean the makeup also
- 40:22because sure he was listen list the makeup for something else. It didn't look
- 40:32like that, right, And I didn't realize who, Like I don't realize.
- 40:35I didn't realize it was. First of all, it's not that I
- 40:37know Matt much of about But then you know, when I was told it
- 40:39was her, I was like, okay, Okay. Then I looked at
- 40:42her stuff and I'm like, well, first of all, she looks nothing
- 40:45like that. And the film number two, she's done a lot. Like
- 40:47she was in Love and Thunder she was, she was in the fucking Fast
- 40:53and Furious film, The Fate of the Furious. She was Elena. She
- 40:57was, she was the cop, just great, beautiful woman and yeah,
- 41:01I mean, and then now she's in this and I'm just like, is
- 41:05that a thing? Now? Like they're just her and Chris are just just
- 41:07like kind of like Helen the Bottom Carner is always in the Tim Burton movie.
- 41:12It's like every time you see Chris you might see her. You know
- 41:16she's great too, because she's like, she did really good. She's really
- 41:22good in this and Great and Fast and Furious, and she can definitely do
- 41:23action because she pulls it off for those movies. Well, she could do
- 41:28action. And I like actors that are not faid to be ugly, right
- 41:31and just like unrecognizable, but in a manner that it means that they're deep
- 41:37into the casual they're trying to portray. So fantastic job. And then returning
- 41:43was Nathan Jones's Rictus, the Big Doofy guy, and then you have Josh
- 41:49Hellman as Scroed as his brother. Yeah, and I want to shout out
- 41:52Lady Hume who played to Morton Joe, because he's the second actor that I
- 41:57played Morton Joe. Hugh Burn played him in the first film, and he
- 42:02was also in the original Mad Max as the main villa, not in Morton
- 42:07Joe. It's a whole different character. But yeah, so him and George
- 42:09Miller go back. But I just think he's a little bit too elderly at
- 42:15this point to play Morton Joe again, So gotcha, gotch Yeah, shout
- 42:17up to that brother, though, because you mentioned it, I want to
- 42:20jump into like this section, which is just about like the look in the
- 42:23feel right, so make up, costuming, how they did this in terms
- 42:30of all the characters. And I think this is also one of those Mad
- 42:36Max These Mad Max films is at least the most recent, cause I'm not
- 42:38really familiar with the original you said, the Mel Gibson led one, Not
- 42:42really familiar with that, but I'm obviously familiar with with Fury Road and then
- 42:45this one and the when we talk again, we talked about the mythos and
- 42:52the world building of the Mad Max universe and the fact that they are They're
- 42:59supposed to be humanity, but at this point so down bad, like they've
- 43:02turned into different They turned to look at different idols and different bygone eras and
- 43:08things from the past that they now that now become their gods. Right,
- 43:12So they worship cars and chrome, and it's very given. It's giving heavy
- 43:16metal. It's giving that heavy metal rock band with skulls and crosses and things
- 43:22that are very macabre. But at the same time things that are about like
- 43:25almost like the fifties, like street racing type thing like like that real like
- 43:30grease lightning type shit. It's a strange diconomy of that type of grease lightning
- 43:36meets heavy metal, rock, hair band meets everything, cars meets what I
- 43:42said, macab meets everything. Uh, just what is it? What is
- 43:49it? What? Like you have like the nipple rings and shit like that
- 43:52yes, very masochistic, very very very everything. Everything from the way that
- 43:58they just talk and walk, it's just it's violent. Everything is also just
- 44:05rooted in violence. Yeah, it's a very short life world and everyone and
- 44:09it knows that. And it's also a world where themes are falling apart constantly,
- 44:15and so people are always adapting and always having to you know, put
- 44:19this jury read this. Yeah, we see it all in fery Road,
- 44:22and that's can fit continue very well this I think even more so really,
- 44:27I like how they really showed you how the world, how these people are
- 44:30like stafvengers, how you have to just keep moving. You know, this
- 44:34breaks, Okay, we got to fix this and keep it moving, abandon
- 44:37that, keep it moving, always to keep moving or die basically, And
- 44:40so I think that's really well done. The cost of exceptional like stuff like
- 44:45that. It's like it's for me. It's like, yeah, they did
- 44:49it again, you know, once again, because all that was so well
- 44:51done the first one. The whole look at the war dogs, how they
- 44:54have this unified look more in Joe with his whole breathing apparatus, like Nigga
- 45:00got not just a mass. Nigga's whole chest help him breathe, Like,
- 45:04it's all kinds of things, all these little things. I mean, Chris
- 45:07Himsworth has some nipper ring shit going on in the Yeah, n he's he
- 45:09And again there's lots of leather obviously I said, and it's very biker culture
- 45:14too. Also throw that in there, dot Like it's literally all the things
- 45:16I mentioned. They threw it in the blender and came out with this world.
- 45:20And then the way people look. You mentioned Chris leather chains, some
- 45:24whitch some some some some some wild shit going on, like and it's like,
- 45:29also everyone's trying to be regal. There is a vehicle that he drives
- 45:35that I've is so ingenious and I have never seen anything like that, and
- 45:39it's like I don't want to give it away because it looks so good on
- 45:43screen. And it's just like because you said like you're a scavenger, so
- 45:46you're literally like you have to have been the most creative child. Like all
- 45:51these people are all the children who was playing with legos all goddamn day because
- 45:54it was just like, Nigga, this is all you got, make some
- 45:58with it, scavenge and then in the heat of battle, the heat of
- 46:01the moment shits falling apart and you got to rearrange, reorganize, rebuild on
- 46:07the fly. And you see that with the way they dress, the way
- 46:09their vehicles, they're, their weaponry everything, it's it's really insane and it's
- 46:15actually like really scientific as well. So like if you're a real nerd about
- 46:17that shit, you're gonna like that. Yeah, And that's say if you
- 46:22if you're not as familiar with the Mad Mats world, this is all like
- 46:25it's just how like Mad Match has its own look, you know, and
- 46:30this is just keeping at you and like you this is look yeah, and
- 46:32this has been the standard since the mail agifts and films, So it's like
- 46:37people reference Mad Max more so than it's like referencing other things. It is
- 46:42its own thing, you know, like the S and M shit's been there.
- 46:45You can go back to Tina Turner's Looking Beyond Thunderdome, which is you
- 46:49know, all of that here. I mean they even have references to like
- 46:53physical characters who look like other characters like arch types. We say, so
- 46:59this has all been done. That fine for me. It's like did it
- 47:02again? You know, but yeah, this has all been established and it's
- 47:06just it's more. It's definitely I don't even want to say they did it
- 47:09more in this one when they've done it in another one's already. It's just
- 47:15it's just it's just like I do think it deserves shine, right, Oh
- 47:17yeah, the facial jewelry. This just the way and the way that and
- 47:22it's like it's so weird. It's just like a repulsive kind of sexual energy
- 47:28too, like because it's not like, oh that looks good. It's like
- 47:30a okay, this has this has some sexual connotation, but it's nasty,
- 47:34like I don't know, And all the characters have some form of it in
- 47:37some way, and the ones that are the most repugnant and repulsive have it
- 47:42in the worst ways. Like you'll see lots of cod pieces and things hanging
- 47:45off of certain appendages that you know, I guess they they thought that shit
- 47:50looked cool to them, and it looked really gross, like like the big
- 47:52fat dude, like I he addressed it was a bit much for me,
- 47:59so he was also very sexral with it. It. Yeah, it was.
- 48:04It was. It's strange and and and I think that's also what makes
- 48:07this what makes you feel so exciting, because it's just like it don't look
- 48:10like nothing else. It doesn't like nothing else, it looks like its own
- 48:14thing. And again everything was just on point, cosume and makeup, all
- 48:16that sound, the cinematography itself just like it's it's in it. It's it's
- 48:23set in the desert. It's always set in a wasteland, right, so
- 48:27just seeing the expanses of large empty places like that, but with a lot
- 48:30going on. There are certain shots. There was one shot where a major
- 48:36event happened, but you see it from afar, and I think that was
- 48:39one of my favorite scenes in the movie because like lots of times, a
- 48:43lot of movies like they need you to be right on top of that action
- 48:45and you're seeing everything blow up, and that is what Mad Max is,
- 48:50right, it is, the lots of explosions and chaos. But it was
- 48:53kind of refreshing to see like you're seeing on the ship, but like from
- 48:58a bystander, like way over here, watching some wild shit go down,
- 49:00and it was just like it's kind of made me feel like here in New
- 49:04York, just when it should be happening across the street and I'd be like,
- 49:07damn, like you're not going over there, You're not participating, but
- 49:10you're just like, fuck, you're involved. So I appreciate that. Yeah,
- 49:15I mean I said this before. George Miller is a god to me.
- 49:19And you know again I keep saying this since you know, he did
- 49:22it again, but it's like one he did it again. But like I
- 49:27said that eighteen minute sequence, I just love that they invented new ways to
- 49:31do these car battles, that new little trick, different things that we didn't
- 49:37see in Fury Road. There were certain repeated things of course, repeated the
- 49:42tags, repeated use to the weaponry, but the way they used it,
- 49:45they're just slight twist, you know. That's all you really need. It's
- 49:50just a little bit of slight twist to what you've seen before. When you're
- 49:53doing it. It's this level. To me, I don't think you really
- 49:55need to reinvent the wheel. You don't, so they didn't re reinfit the
- 49:59wheel, but it's still the same level of pure expertise, love care put
- 50:05into every shot. All the rules of cinematography are always so well followed in
- 50:09this, Like they don't, you know, it's like they don't break barriers,
- 50:13they don't break planes. Your eye doesn't need to travel around the screen
- 50:17to see what's happening. Not a much of shaky cam and none of that,
- 50:20none of that. There ain't no shaky cam at all, right,
- 50:22And I mean they're shaky scenes. There's shaky scenes, but no like like
- 50:25it's never like a cheating situation where it's just like people like they're shaking cams
- 50:29and doing other shit to disorient you. It's like, no, there's so
- 50:31much chaos and it's just like you feel like you're in it. And yes,
- 50:36being in the forty X chares did help because and I will say maybe
- 50:38the fact that this is very you know, car focused and vehicle focus,
- 50:42like because it's a sit down chair, you're you know, in motorcycles and
- 50:45shit like that. Like you feel like you're one within the scene. So
- 50:50couple that with everything you just said about not breaking the plane and all the
- 50:52other stuff, you feel very much in it. No, And like you
- 50:55said, he knows how to take shots where you can see everything. Like
- 51:00I was saying, the one in the commercial is part of this eight minute
- 51:04sequence and it's such an ill shot to me because they're riding along and they
- 51:08do that a lot, where like the car that's filming is a car riding
- 51:14behind these other cars. Yeah, so you get the feeling of being in
- 51:19this race. And while all right, there was this I remember I had
- 51:22this huge like argument and it made me look at this one cat on Twitter.
- 51:27Kno gonna name you, bro, I could, I won't this When
- 51:30the first film came out and they were like, I just hated all to
- 51:32CGI in the movie. And the funny thing about Feary Road is there's very
- 51:37little obvious CGI. Most of that shit was practical effects. They were really
- 51:43driving these cars through the desert. They're really crashing these cars and flipping them
- 51:46over. Tom Hardy is really hanging alongside the car with his head close to
- 51:52the ground as it drives like so that everybody hurt me because I'm like,
- 51:54George Miner really put his work in on this. So when I saw the
- 51:59trailer for Criosa, there is a lot more obvious CGI. In my eyes
- 52:02immediately was like, ooh, fun, let me finish the good wine.
- 52:08When I when I get to the movie, I have to say that was
- 52:13erased. There are the obvious CGI. To me is still obvious CGI.
- 52:17My eyes just are trained to pick that shit up. But it's that same
- 52:22George Miller fantastic dedication to detail where it doesn't matter. There was there's a
- 52:28shot early on in the film where I was like, fuck, that's a
- 52:30terrible CGI in the background. But for the most part, there were certain
- 52:34shots. I don't know if it's the same one you're talking about, but
- 52:36there's a shot where you're seeing everything from a like kind of a helicopter shot,
- 52:39and I was trying to figure out how much of the background was CGI
- 52:44or was it because it looks so natural, But I'm like, this,
- 52:46shit's so crazy of a like place in the world. Where is this you
- 52:52know, where you can shoot this and at least cards driving and have this
- 52:55background. So I was like, that background's gotta be fake. But I
- 52:59couldn't. M hmm, I that was I was going to say, that
- 53:05would be my only like slight minus for the film. This is very heavy
- 53:09CGIM and not saying there were no practical effects. It's just there there there
- 53:15are, It's just that way more CG. I then I remember or or
- 53:21recall, and I don't think it was like to your point. I think
- 53:23it was. It was mostly mainly practical in infery road it but you can
- 53:29see the difference. And there were more than one time I would say,
- 53:34and and again nothing too too much like oh, this looks like crap,
- 53:37just but there was more than one time I'm like, that's c G I,
- 53:40that's CGI. That's and it started like even early in the beginning,
- 53:45and and if and for me, I was questioning, I was like,
- 53:47why did that have to be c G I? But it didn't make sense
- 53:52for it to be CG I. Did it? Did it ruin a movie?
- 53:53No, It's just that it made me question it, like they didn't
- 53:57need to do that, like you can see like and it was like on
- 54:00Canny Valley type ship where it's just like that's clearly not a person or that
- 54:04person or that that really not happening. That background is clearly fake. Like
- 54:08yeah, So I would say that was the only slight negative that I had.
- 54:12That there was way more CGI Inferido, so that they probably could didn't
- 54:15need uh when you're thinking about it in the grand scheme that said, perhaps
- 54:20that's done for safety reasons and or time, And there's certain stuff like you
- 54:24just can't do like that, Like there's a shot that's in the very first
- 54:29trailer that I saw on the trailer, and I still love there's a shot
- 54:32with this river of bullets basically, and it's you know, done it.
- 54:36The bullets are all CGI. But when you see it in spring and when
- 54:38I saw it in the trailer, I was like, oh, that's even
- 54:40though I knew the bullets for CG, I like, what a shot.
- 54:45And on the bitch bred I was even born, like wow, what a
- 54:47shot. Yeah. And on the flip side, there are some CGI scenes
- 54:52where it's just like that shit looks crazy in a good way, like that
- 54:55shit goes hard so and there's still doing hella practical effects. They employed over
- 55:02two hundred stump people. They are crashing cars left to right. All of
- 55:07that shit is still very much Yeah, you know, I promise you where
- 55:09they are them cars explosions, that shit with some real pyrotechnic work and that
- 55:15That's one thing I can't stand is fate fired films because it always looks terrible.
- 55:20It looks fire is one of the hardest thing to animate. And these
- 55:22niggas ain't playing around with that. They are still blowing it up left to
- 55:25right, and I love it. Yeah. I want to comment off of
- 55:29something you said just about the fact that you said, you mentioned that some
- 55:34things are repeated just in terms of the things you've seen from Fury Road.
- 55:37I will, I will even I'm gonna actually raise that a bit and say,
- 55:43not beyond just being repeated, this is how these niggas fight. Okay,
- 55:46Yeah, these the war Boys. They are running and doing fucking parkore
- 55:53mixed with search to sleat on vehicles moving at one hundred miles in our fucking
- 56:00giant mac trucks and and muscle cars and mud and as everything. And they're
- 56:06doing this like they're literally on a dirt road or sometimes like an ospital road,
- 56:09but they are literally going barreling down the road at these breakneck speeds,
- 56:14fighting each other to the death. Okay, So yes, you're gonna see
- 56:17some of the approaches that they did in Fury Road, but they add some
- 56:22inventive shit on top of it. It's like, all right, yes,
- 56:24you gonna see the war Dogs if you if you love them, you're gonna
- 56:28get them again. You're gonna see them doing some wild Kamakazi shit going brazy
- 56:31on everybody. Yes, and they're gonna be some new shit on top of
- 56:37that, and new contraptions, yeah that you ain't never seen before and as
- 56:44Benami said early when he said there were times of heat verbally loudly, because
- 56:47the whole audience heard him. Hope he'd heard him, brothers laughing a little
- 56:51bit when he said what the fuck because and I was mouthing what the fuckers,
- 56:54I couldn't get it out fast enough, like just things flying in the
- 56:58air. It was there, like I literally can't wait to see a movie
- 57:02again. It's you know, it's like I said, it's just for Feriy
- 57:06Road. It's like if one of those things where like I feel you like,
- 57:08Feriy Road to me is near perfect and it's like almost perfect, you
- 57:13know. It's like and it's also it's still big, big business. And
- 57:17I will also say it's like the difference between Kill Bill Volume one and Kill
- 57:22Bill of Volume two, Like Kill Bill Volume two is more cerebral, and
- 57:27it's the same thing. This is a very meditative take on the nature of
- 57:30revenge and what revenge means, what it does to someone. You know,
- 57:35what it means to hold that anger, what will you get out of it.
- 57:38It's like one of my favorite Gi Joe stories from the comic is about
- 57:42Snake Eyes and storm Shadow, and they have the same talk. You know,
- 57:45it's what the same talk that himn Birth and them have it is,
- 57:49and it's kind of mirrored in Kill Bill. The talk the Bill and the
- 57:52bride have at the end is the same talk it's been. It's been done
- 57:57over and over again. The dialogue is different. But people have said that
- 58:00revenge is an endless circle. You know, that's just an old take,
- 58:05like and it's an old true take that it's endless circle. It will always
- 58:08someone will always want revenge, you know. The bride says it to Ernita's
- 58:14daughter. You know, you can come looking for me in twenty years if
- 58:15you want, I get it. I just chose your moms. You know.
- 58:19That's how I go down. It's trying to be an endless circle.
- 58:22And then you come kill me, and my daughter gonna be looking for you.
- 58:24It's just how it goes. So that's been told. But the dialogue
- 58:29of this and the explanation I thought was top notch, exceptional all that.
- 58:32But I would like I say, I think this is the difference between Kill
- 58:36the Volume one and volume two. Cury Road is volume one and this is
- 58:40volume two. There's more dialogue, more thought on the nature of why everything
- 58:45is, but there's still some incredible action sequences, just like how Volume two
- 58:51has incredible action sequences. The Volume one is just a you know, straight
- 58:55up karate flick. You know you knuckles to the wall into end damn near
- 59:00action. Yes, you know, take some breaks, but it don't take
- 59:02many. And when it's on, it's on, just like furiy Road was,
- 59:07and Furiosa is such an impeccable foundational film as mentioned about defining characters and
- 59:15what happens and why certain things move the way they move in the world,
- 59:20and which leads me to just putting even more energy on that dialogue. One
- 59:28of my favorite, most top favorite things about the Mad Max universe, and
- 59:31of course in Furiosa, is the dialogue and the language that is spoken.
- 59:37This is like some great value brand version no child Left Behind version of English.
- 59:45When I say, it's like, you know what they're saying, but
- 59:46you're also like, what is that nigga actually saying? It's It is such
- 59:52a strange dichotomy of almost Shakespearean soliloquy. Well all of them, yeah,
- 1:00:02all of them came very like as mentioned, like very Shakespearean mixed with sat
- 1:00:09words. But then they would not understand or forget the most easiest basic words
- 1:00:15and then have you know, standing words for that. So like you have
- 1:00:20this mishmash language as being spoken and again just as a as a as the
- 1:00:23outside artis you can pretty much understand what they're saying, but you also like
- 1:00:28nigga what like like I said, like I use guzzling as an example,
- 1:00:30like just certain things where that and they're just and they're just talking. And
- 1:00:35I would also imagine like how the actors like yeah, you're you know,
- 1:00:37you're learning the script, but just literally your your way kind of like having
- 1:00:42a dialect, like your way of speaking is changed dramatically, and it's like
- 1:00:45the way they're talking generally most of them is very like fluid but also janky.
- 1:00:52It's weird how they're able to do that. And I don't understand like
- 1:00:57how they came up with how the language is spoken, like how and it's
- 1:01:00all English, but how the language is broken is is I really wouldn't want
- 1:01:04to learn more about that. That's again, that's it's crazy. Yeah,
- 1:01:07and that's all from the first one. That's just George Miller and like just
- 1:01:10we said this, it's like it's just a breakdown of everything. So the
- 1:01:15language is broken down, so people are making, you know, making a
- 1:01:20references to things that they think about, but it's not things they see on
- 1:01:22the daily anymore. So they talk about old movies and things of that nature
- 1:01:27of old pop culture. But it's not like there's a radio that to do
- 1:01:30or they can go watch a DVD of it, So it's like third fourth
- 1:01:32hand knowledge of this shit. Yeah and yeah, and again it's just so
- 1:01:37funny. It's just like certain certain four syllable words. It's like everyone's saying
- 1:01:42with no problem, no difficulty, and then other things people are like what,
- 1:01:45Like, it's just it's just it's incredible. I just love how how
- 1:01:50it all flows. And when you mix that with just how everything looks and
- 1:01:52feels, it's it's a great film. And if you've never and I'm sharing
- 1:01:58all this because especially like you just don't know the background or not really sure
- 1:02:01about the story or even just forgot, like this is the type of shit
- 1:02:05you're getting, Like it's world class. Yeah. I really don't have much
- 1:02:12more to say on it, you know, like I think I've covered it.
- 1:02:14I think it's a great film. I think everyone should see it.
- 1:02:16If you like action, it's you know, if you just if you like
- 1:02:20an action summer movie, this is top notch. It doesn't get much better
- 1:02:22than this. Oh that is the last question I had. What did you
- 1:02:25feel about the pacing? I will say for me because it's had more dialogue
- 1:02:30and maybe not as much as I expected in certain parts. In the beginning,
- 1:02:37it wasn't slow. It was just let me be clear, it didn't
- 1:02:39slog. It was just like, okay, I guess. I was just
- 1:02:42trying to be like, where is this going? And then like I got
- 1:02:45into the groove versus with Feary Road, I was in it immediately. I
- 1:02:49felt so I don't know, I think. I mean, once again,
- 1:02:52it's two different type of films. The Fear Road does not waste any time.
- 1:02:54But we had discussion, you know after the film where some people were
- 1:03:00saying that same thing, and I just disagree completely, like well, they
- 1:03:02were saying it more so so I felt I felt slightly and then it fixed
- 1:03:07itself. I was like, cool, great, I would I think,
- 1:03:09I'm yeah, I guess, I don't. You know. That's one of
- 1:03:15those things I just disagree with because I felt like when it and that's why
- 1:03:19I can't spoil anything. But no, I disagree. I get why people
- 1:03:24can say that, because it's not if you're comparing it to Fiery Road,
- 1:03:29Like yeah, it don't start off like Fiery Road, but you know a
- 1:03:32few films do. But for most films like this moves, I don't.
- 1:03:37I didn't have those problems like yeah, not at all, man, I
- 1:03:42like I said, I can't wait to see this shit again. I have
- 1:03:44no notes. There ain't no like like I'm not sitting there like, oh,
- 1:03:46you could have done this, nigga, what you did this? You
- 1:03:50know, George Miller, all of y'all, y'all did this. I don't,
- 1:03:53definite mean I don't. It's hard for me to be critical when there's
- 1:03:57work like this out there, you know, because it's like this like r
- 1:04:00R just like Athena, Like sure I could say things, but if I
- 1:04:04said things like that, that's just me being a backseat driver because it could
- 1:04:08be perfect when it's already near perfect. You know. That's me having the
- 1:04:13ability to see the movie, you know, and not make it. That's
- 1:04:16what I mean. It's like like my boy once called me. I put
- 1:04:19my boy a watte on to a theme and he called me in ransom for
- 1:04:23like thirty five minutes afterwards, and I was said, dog, you're only
- 1:04:26saying all this because you love it, and he said, yeah, man,
- 1:04:29this movie could be fucking perfect. You know, it's just almost there,
- 1:04:32and it was. So that's what I mean. It's like these type
- 1:04:34of films are like, go see experience it for yourself. Don't let nobody
- 1:04:38tell you about it. Go see it as soon as possible, you know,
- 1:04:42if like it's out of everything I've seen this year, this is one
- 1:04:46like, Nigga, go see this shit in the story. There's no question
- 1:04:48I echo that this is a this is a mussy type film. Go see
- 1:04:53that shit. It's I had a lot of fun. I had to blast
- 1:04:56with this. You will have a lot of fun. This is the type
- 1:04:59of film you see what your with your partners and them with your with your
- 1:05:02I don't want to say with your kids in that, but this is now
- 1:05:05with your kids. But you can you can, you can like go out
- 1:05:09like like this is like type which doesn't happen often, like you know,
- 1:05:12group type ship, like yo, we all about it. We all find
- 1:05:14to go to the to the to the show, as y'all say. In
- 1:05:16certain areas of the country, like this is the one like, this is
- 1:05:20one of those ones where it's just like, yo, we're all going,
- 1:05:24can you see if you can see it in forty s do it if you
- 1:05:26could, just if you If it's no forty X, you don't need it
- 1:05:29to see them the biggest thing you can because it's worth that. It's worth
- 1:05:32the eyeballs and and the and the wows and the stairs, and it's just
- 1:05:36well done, fun film, dark comedy, but also just like amazing just
- 1:05:43in terms of the type of story and engagement you're gonna get from this.
- 1:05:47I absolutely recommend it. I don't even know if I want to give it
- 1:05:53stars or numbers and nothing. I just fucking recommend this. Shit. This
- 1:05:55is I mean, I see you in the commercial of the Corner Instant Classic,
- 1:05:59and I feel pretty much just say, yeah it is. You know,
- 1:06:00I thought Fury Road when I walked out of it, I was like,
- 1:06:02that was one of the greatest films I've ever seen. And when I
- 1:06:05walked out of this, I was like, well, that was almost to
- 1:06:08the Fury Road. So you know, if Furry Road is one of the
- 1:06:11greatest films I've ever seen, this is right up there. And then the
- 1:06:14more I thought about it, the more I liked it, because, like
- 1:06:16I said, I feel like it just gives so much weight to Furiosa where
- 1:06:20now I'm just like, I'm damn near crying with her when she's screaming in
- 1:06:24the desert because I know, like I'm like, God, damn girl,
- 1:06:28you've been throwing and you had this dreamy all whole life. You know.
- 1:06:32It's like, so that shit is ill. One word to describe Furiosa for
- 1:06:38me. Hard amazing shit goals hard, yeah, fucking you know, beautiful.
- 1:06:45It's I don't know when y'all gonna hear our review, but it does
- 1:06:49drop May twenty fourth. You know, obviously we saw a little bit early.
- 1:06:53That's why we're giving you this detail. But again, go see that
- 1:06:57shit. I got nothing else. I appreciated my time. We had a
- 1:07:02time. Yeah, I'm going to see it again as soon as possible.
- 1:07:05You know that. That's and that's very few movies that I do that for
- 1:07:11very few movies that I'll go see twice in the theater. Infinity War I
- 1:07:15did. I didn't get to see r R or theater in theaters. I
- 1:07:20would have done those I can't. I might see this shitn't forty X again
- 1:07:26to be honest, because like I don't have to, but I would,
- 1:07:28because it just made it even more. It was a ride, like the
- 1:07:31film itself as a ride, and then to physically be on a ride.
- 1:07:34And as I said, it was a market difference from what we watched to
- 1:07:38do it because the movement of the chair and when they decided to do elemental
- 1:07:43shit at you you know, water and whatnot, this and that, it
- 1:07:45all made sense. It made sense and matched up with what I was seeing.
- 1:07:48And I was, you know, I was like not anticipating, but
- 1:07:51like when it happened, I was like, Okay, I expect that to
- 1:07:54happen. That that matched up with what I'm seeing. So yeah, I
- 1:07:57fucked with it. Yeah, I don't know, because I I did enjoy
- 1:08:00it a lot, But I don't know. I might see forty again.
- 1:08:03We'll see again, y'all don't have to like just even watching a right there,
- 1:08:08you will. You will still have a lot of fun with this.
- 1:08:11No, I can't imagine anyone seeing this. Like I said, this is
- 1:08:14just one of those films, you know, like this is great. It's
- 1:08:15one of those films you gotta see in a big ass theater. It's like
- 1:08:19when I saw Infinity War and I was thinking about it earlier. How I
- 1:08:21went and saw it again in an even bigger theater the second time with a
- 1:08:25full crowd, And because I knew what was happening, what was coming,
- 1:08:29I could anticipate all the reactions and it was just great seeing those people's reactions
- 1:08:33and being part of that. So, like we saw it with credits and
- 1:08:36stuff, who were kind of you know, they ain't like me. Who
- 1:08:40gonna be like what the fuck? You know in the middle of this theater.
- 1:08:42So I want to see it with some you know, crowd. Yeah,
- 1:08:45go screaming what the fuck? Like me? So yeah, Thank y'all
