- 0:03Speaker 1: Welcome to another episode of Not Another Football Podcast. We
- 0:07Speaker 1: did four from Rosie Maguire's over in Spain and this
- 0:11Speaker 1: is another special with the.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Band that we met over there, Cooney and Danny. How
- 0:16Speaker 2: are we boys? Good to be here boys. What a
- 0:20Speaker 2: weekend that was. You can say that again. It was
- 0:22Speaker 2: the best three months of my life. It felt that
- 0:24Speaker 2: way didn't it? It did, it was great. I mean,
- 0:27Speaker 2: it was great for us to, like, we kind of
- 0:29Speaker 2: got called out, we didn't really know Anyone involved with it,
- 0:33Speaker 2: we'd never met Collie. The call came in through Paul Sheridan,
- 0:36Speaker 2: front man of the Wakes, the band that Danny's in.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And we didn't really know what to expect. But it
- 0:43Speaker 2: exceeded any expectations we did have. It was absolutely fantastic. Yeah, absolutely. Brilliant.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Even from the first pick-up at the airport when you
- 0:50Speaker 1: met the six Celtic boys, or four of them.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. What was your first impressions?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Well, Kenny didn't know who they were.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I didn't know who any of them were.
- 1:01Speaker 4: We were standing at Edinburgh Airport, and then we were
- 1:04Speaker 4: standing at the front.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Because you were on our flight, but we'd never met
- 1:07Speaker 1: on the flight.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Aye, that's right, we'd never met before the flight.
- 1:09Speaker 4: And I started seeing all yous coming in, and I
- 1:11Speaker 4: was like, oh, that's Jackie McNamara. Just saying the door,
- 1:14Speaker 4: and all that. And then he's like, right, see, before
- 1:16Speaker 4: you go in, Who's that one?
- 1:17Speaker 3: No, never.
- 1:22Speaker 4: He kept that one quite all week.
- 1:26Speaker 2: No, it was good. Like, you see, for me, coming
- 1:30Speaker 2: from small town rural Ireland, so, like, where I grew up,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it was Hurling. Hurling, Hurling, Hurling, which is, like, the
- 1:36Speaker 2: equivalent to Shinty. I'm pretty sure Shinty is derived from Hurling.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Hurling is older. But, like, anyone that supported football back home,
- 1:44Speaker 2: it was always either Liverpool or... for Man United. That
- 1:46Speaker 2: was always the one. My brother Wayne, he was a
- 1:49Speaker 2: Liverpool supporter. And for me, I was always too busy
- 1:55Speaker 2: playing music. I never really got into hurling our football
- 1:58Speaker 2: or ga or anything like that. But she coming, moving
- 2:03Speaker 2: over here, I've been living in Glasgow for six years now.
- 2:06Speaker 2: And Danny always slags me. He was like, you know,
- 2:09Speaker 2: you're a you're not even going to be a football fan,
- 2:11Speaker 2: you don't even know what you're getting into here, because
- 2:13Speaker 2: I didn't like football when I moved over, not that
- 2:16Speaker 2: I didn't like it, I had no interest in it,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and he was like, give it a couple of weeks,
- 2:20Speaker 2: give it a couple of weeks, and see what you
- 2:22Speaker 2: get into, what you're signing into, and moving over to Glasgow,
- 2:24Speaker 2: and now it's like, I know every player on the
- 2:27Speaker 2: current team, I watch every game, I'm keeping up, and
- 2:30Speaker 2: keeping in touch with it, but it's, it was definitely
- 2:33Speaker 2: an interesting one, going over, and being thrown in at
- 2:35Speaker 2: the deep end, it was a good laugh though.
- 2:37Speaker 4: It's just part of the culture in Glasgow though, isn't it,
- 2:39Speaker 4: if you're, Everybody knows everything about the football. It's always,
- 2:42Speaker 4: it's the top stories in the media.
- 2:44Speaker 3: You can't, you can't hide from it.
- 2:45Speaker 2: You can't get away from it.
- 2:46Speaker 3: You can't hide from it, aye.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Definitely not.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 2: But even like when we, we're kind of resident musicians
- 2:52Speaker 2: in Kitty O'Shea's in Glasgow. Yeah, I should do that, yeah.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And like, when I moved over first, as I was saying,
- 2:58Speaker 2: it was just doing kind of regular gigs and then
- 3:00Speaker 2: it was like, all right, can you do this match day?
- 3:02Speaker 2: And it was like, ah, yeah, yeah, we'll go in
- 3:04Speaker 2: and do it. It'll just be, you know, we're going
- 3:05Speaker 2: to do the gig. But it's just mental. My boys
- 3:08Speaker 2: are in, like the pub opens if it's a, if
- 3:12Speaker 2: it's a three o'clock kickoff, the pub is open at
- 3:14Speaker 2: 11 or 12 and there's a queue outside the door
- 3:16Speaker 2: of lads waiting to get in to have a pint
- 3:17Speaker 2: before they get to train. And it's like, it's so
- 3:20Speaker 2: ingrained in the society. But it was an amazing thing
- 3:24Speaker 2: to see as well. What I thought was amazing out
- 3:27Speaker 2: in Catheroic was like, when you see what, not just Celtic,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but what football means to people and what it means
- 3:36Speaker 2: to people's lives. Like we went out there like me
- 3:40Speaker 2: going in blind and saying like these people are just
- 3:43Speaker 2: die-hard fans.
- 3:45Speaker 1: The three, four hundred people there, did you expect that
- 3:48Speaker 1: amount of folk, were you surprised by?
- 3:50Speaker 4: We didn't really know what to expect at all, but
- 3:53Speaker 4: I mean everything was just, I couldn't, I can't praise
- 3:57Speaker 4: like Colie and the boys enough, I mean it was
- 4:01Speaker 4: a fantastic festival but in terms of the way we
- 4:04Speaker 4: were kind of looked after and stuff, I loved that
- 4:06Speaker 4: they He put us in with you guys in the
- 4:08Speaker 4: apartment and all that.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Have you been invited back? Like, sure yet? No, not yet, no.
- 4:18Speaker 2: We're hoping that Carl doesn't come in. Or at least
- 4:21Speaker 2: they better put us in another apartment. Separate lifts from
- 4:25Speaker 2: the airport. They're not getting in a car with John
- 4:27Speaker 2: Miller and Peter Grant again.
- 4:29Speaker 1: We've had an invite yet excuse you I'm sure you'll
- 4:33Speaker 1: be there I'm sure you'll be there you're alright you
- 4:37Speaker 1: were saying about the set up of the apartment as
- 4:39Speaker 1: well you know above his I mean Peter Grant doing
- 4:42Speaker 1: our washing he was the father figure.
- 4:45Speaker 4: He was the father figure for everything yeah I mean
- 4:48Speaker 4: he gave you a good toast didn't.
- 4:49Speaker 2: He he did but I think it was funny how
- 4:52Speaker 2: like Danny was slagging me see when we got in
- 4:54Speaker 2: the car and like we said like I I would
- 4:57Speaker 2: have known your name Because you would have been, when
- 5:01Speaker 2: my brother Jamie was alive, you would have been captain
- 5:04Speaker 2: in and around that time. And he was a massive
- 5:07Speaker 2: Celtic fan, a huge Celtic fan. So when I got
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the car, I was lucky enough to be put
- 5:11Speaker 2: up in the front seat. And it was fairness to grantee,
- 5:13Speaker 2: he was like, go on, my son, you get in
- 5:14Speaker 2: the front seat, mate. I was trying to be, you know,
- 5:17Speaker 2: let the old lad in the front, you know what
- 5:19Speaker 2: I mean? And Danny was saying to me, when we
- 5:21Speaker 2: got out of the car, he was like, I've never
- 5:23Speaker 2: seen you as quiet as me. Never, never, man.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Never, he's never that quiet. I think you were just
- 5:28Speaker 3: kind of soaking it all in.
- 5:29Speaker 2: I was soaking it all in. I was just looking
- 5:30Speaker 2: in the rear view mirror.
- 5:31Speaker 3: He was trying to figure out what the name was.
- 5:32Speaker 5: What was Jackie?
- 5:35Speaker 2: What was he saying? But it was just trying, like,
- 5:38Speaker 2: Joe Miller, Joe was so funny from the get-go. Like,
- 5:42Speaker 2: when he got in the car dressed in all black
- 5:44Speaker 2: and he had the sunglasses on and he was just, like...
- 5:47Speaker 2: Peter Grant was at the door side, Danny was here
- 5:49Speaker 2: and Joe Miller was the other side and Danny's only
- 5:52Speaker 2: a small guy and Joe's only small as well. But
- 5:54Speaker 2: Joel was sitting like that with his elbows in tightrips.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And he just kept on, there was these little digs
- 6:00Speaker 2: coming in. I was like, every time I open my
- 6:02Speaker 2: mouth here, I'm going to get a dig here. It's
- 6:04Speaker 2: better off just stay quiet, assess the situation. But by
- 6:07Speaker 2: the end of the show, we were all giving it sucks.
- 6:09Speaker 1: It's the way they welcome you in. So how did
- 6:11Speaker 1: you guys then get together then? Way back, so how
- 6:14Speaker 1: long have you been together.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Doing your stuff?
- 6:16Speaker 3: What would it be, maybe about seven years or something?
- 6:18Speaker 2: Seven or eight years, yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Because you're obviously in.
- 6:21Speaker 1: the weeks, so were you in that band at that time?
- 6:23Speaker 4: Before I've been kind of in that band for, I
- 6:25Speaker 4: think we were working it out there it's been about
- 6:28Speaker 4: 10 years now or something like that but we kind
- 6:32Speaker 4: of met on a different thing altogether when I first
- 6:36Speaker 4: came out of uni, I studied a bit of music
- 6:38Speaker 4: at uni and I was lucky enough to walk into
- 6:41Speaker 4: a show that was touring the world it was an
- 6:43Speaker 4: Irish dancing show, it was called Irish Celtic and I
- 6:46Speaker 4: did that for kind of 10 years and along the
- 6:48Speaker 4: way you kind of joined.
- 6:50Speaker 3: In That'd be what, five, six years?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Into you doing the jazz.
- 6:53Speaker 4: Five, six or seven years ago. And that's where we
- 6:56Speaker 4: first met. And you were in Ireland at the time.
- 6:58Speaker 4: You were living in Ireland.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I was living in Ireland. Like I, when I
- 7:02Speaker 2: left college in Dublin, I was offered a gig out
- 7:06Speaker 2: in Orlando, Florida, out in Disney World, playing music. So
- 7:11Speaker 2: being 19 years of age and moving out to America,
- 7:14Speaker 2: like I lived in Dublin for two years when I
- 7:17Speaker 2: was in college. But then like, There's one thing about
- 7:20Speaker 2: living in Dublin, away from Mammy and Daddy, but then
- 7:22Speaker 2: going over to America, 19 years of age.
- 7:25Speaker 6: You can't drink then, either.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Well, legally, you know what I mean? There's ways around that. But,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you know, going over there, and that gig was amazing.
- 7:35Speaker 2: How long were you there for that? I lived in
- 7:37Speaker 2: Florida for two years. So I'd done that, and it
- 7:40Speaker 2: was tough work. Like, that gig was six nights a
- 7:43Speaker 2: week for two years in one. And the only time
- 7:46Speaker 2: you got off was if you were going to renew
- 7:48Speaker 2: a visa. they'd normally give you your time off within
- 7:51Speaker 2: that time. They were kind of clever, like, right, we'll
- 7:55Speaker 2: fly you back down to renew your visa, but then
- 7:56Speaker 2: you can take a week off after that, but that's
- 7:58Speaker 2: because you had to wait to get the visa sent
- 7:59Speaker 2: in the post. But done that, like, I have an
- 8:03Speaker 2: awful lot to thank for that gig. Like, I met
- 8:04Speaker 2: my now fiancé doing that gig, and I met, bumped
- 8:10Speaker 2: into Damaris Woods and Derek Warfield of Wolftone's fame. They
- 8:15Speaker 2: were responsible for booking music in a bar down in Tampa,
- 8:20Speaker 2: in Florida. And we done a gig down there. One night,
- 8:24Speaker 2: even though we weren't supposed to, we went down and
- 8:26Speaker 2: done a gig. And long story short, I moved back
- 8:31Speaker 2: from Florida, having lived in there full time for two years.
- 8:34Speaker 2: And then I got asked to cover a gig with
- 8:36Speaker 2: the Young Wolftones. So when the original Wolftones split in 2001,
- 8:41Speaker 2: Derek Warfield went and set up his own band. So
- 8:43Speaker 2: it was Derek Warfield and the Young Wolftones. he asked
- 8:48Speaker 2: me to cover a gig for the guy that was
- 8:50Speaker 2: originally in the band who I also knew and it
- 8:53Speaker 2: was in Kilbegan at like some festival thing and it
- 8:58Speaker 2: was an audition that I didn't know was an audition
- 9:01Speaker 2: and done the gig and literally straight after Damaris kind
- 9:04Speaker 2: of came up to me and was like look Padder's
- 9:06Speaker 2: leaving the band lucky to join and then I was
- 9:09Speaker 2: with them for another two years I think and that
- 9:12Speaker 2: was toured America non-stop like I've seen so much of
- 9:17Speaker 2: the states and But then that brought me that experience. Like,
- 9:24Speaker 2: it's a funny one, like, that experience was amazing and
- 9:27Speaker 2: it did lead me into working with Irish Celtic and
- 9:30Speaker 2: meeting Danny because when I was working in, before I
- 9:34Speaker 2: joined the Young Wolftones, when I was working in Disney,
- 9:37Speaker 2: I got to know obviously a lot of Irish dancers.
- 9:40Speaker 2: There was a lot of Irish dancers that they have
- 9:43Speaker 2: Irish dance shows on the hour, every hour. It's a
- 9:44Speaker 2: massive building. And But a lot of those dancers were
- 9:50Speaker 2: touring Irish Celtic and they were the ones that said
- 9:53Speaker 2: to me, they were like, there's, who's now one of
- 9:55Speaker 2: our best mates, Anton, who's the musical director, there's his
- 9:58Speaker 2: email address, send him an email. I sent Anton an
- 10:01Speaker 2: email when I was leaving Disney and in fairness to
- 10:05Speaker 2: him he got back to me straight away he said
- 10:06Speaker 2: I don't have an opening right now but I'll keep
- 10:07Speaker 2: you in mind and then a year later I was
- 10:10Speaker 2: with the Young Wolf Tones about a year and a
- 10:12Speaker 2: half and I sent him another email and he was
- 10:14Speaker 2: like I might have something coming up and then sure
- 10:17Speaker 2: enough he was like send me your passport And then
- 10:20Speaker 2: that's where we met then. So I knew Danny before
- 10:23Speaker 2: I ever moved to Glasgow. But it's been a whirlwind
- 10:28Speaker 2: ever since.
- 10:29Speaker 1: How did you end up with the Kitties gig then?
- 10:31Speaker 1: Were you doing different pubs in Glasgow?
- 10:34Speaker 4: Well, I've always lived there, so I've been kind of
- 10:36Speaker 4: gigging in the pubs and that since I was 18
- 10:39Speaker 4: years old.
- 10:40Speaker 3: So we've done all the rounds earlier.
- 10:42Speaker 4: In the older pubs, I don't know if you remember
- 10:44Speaker 4: Foucher and that back in the day and St Vincent
- 10:46Speaker 4: Street or that and all that. We used to gig
- 10:48Speaker 4: in there and then up in Malones, then Connellys, Topeth,
- 10:52Speaker 4: all those places. So I kind of knew the lay
- 10:54Speaker 4: of the land and then when we kind of moved over,
- 10:57Speaker 4: we just kind of got a wee duo thing going together.
- 11:00Speaker 2: We kind of picked up pretty quick. So I moved
- 11:03Speaker 2: over here at a very, very funny time. I moved
- 11:06Speaker 2: over here during COVID. So I think I always remember,
- 11:11Speaker 2: we talk about it quite a bit. Me and my
- 11:14Speaker 2: dad came over in his Jeep. with all my belongings,
- 11:19Speaker 2: everything I owned, packed up everything and we drove over
- 11:22Speaker 2: because COVID at the time came in and I was,
- 11:25Speaker 2: we had been on tour, we got sent back from,
- 11:27Speaker 2: remember we were supposed to be on tour for like
- 11:28Speaker 2: 12 weeks and we woke up that morning in Paris
- 11:30Speaker 2: and we were like, everyone's going home. So there's no
- 11:33Speaker 2: point in paying rent in the apartment in Bursa. I
- 11:34Speaker 2: moved back in with my folks and in the meantime
- 11:38Speaker 2: of that, I met my missus and then she was like,
- 11:41Speaker 2: want to buy a house and that happened. I was like, right.
- 11:44Speaker 2: So I, agreed to buy a house in Cumbernauld over FaceTime.
- 11:49Speaker 2: You know all about Cumbernauld. I said it to him
- 11:52Speaker 2: when I was like, oh, we're buying a house. Where
- 11:54Speaker 2: are you buying a Cumbernauld? He said, wouldn't you stop
- 11:55Speaker 2: at the lights in Cumbernauld, mate? But I done that
- 11:59Speaker 2: and it was great. But I remember we moved all
- 12:00Speaker 2: the stuff over in one day and I had to
- 12:03Speaker 2: go back to Ireland and the last thing I had
- 12:04Speaker 2: to do was sell my car. I said, when I
- 12:06Speaker 2: get the car sold, I'll get on the motorbike then
- 12:09Speaker 2: and that's the last thing I had to bring over
- 12:11Speaker 2: was my motorbike. All I'd left in Burr was five
- 12:14Speaker 2: pairs of jocks two pairs of jeans and a couple
- 12:16Speaker 2: of t-shirts. That's all I had. And the motorbike. Sold
- 12:20Speaker 2: the car and moved over. And then, obviously, COVID times,
- 12:23Speaker 2: the pubs weren't... I was at the boat, right? And
- 12:27Speaker 2: it was the day they announced the second lockdown. So
- 12:31Speaker 2: I was at the boat in Belfast. I was like,
- 12:34Speaker 2: I'm going to get a pint now. I'm going to
- 12:36Speaker 2: get into Glasgow. I was texting him, can't wait. Next thing,
- 12:38Speaker 2: BBC News, everything's shutting at six o'clock. And I was like,
- 12:42Speaker 2: I'm getting to Karen Ryan at five past five. I'm
- 12:44Speaker 2: not going to get a pint at all. So I
- 12:45Speaker 2: got up on the bike. But then got up and
- 12:48Speaker 2: I think it was, that lockdown wasn't as long. That
- 12:51Speaker 2: was a kind of Christmassy time. And then we came
- 12:53Speaker 2: into the January, February, pubs started opening up. Did you
- 12:56Speaker 2: just do anything in that lockdown time? Like on Zoom
- 12:58Speaker 2: or anything like that? Did you just do? I didn't.
- 13:01Speaker 2: I done a good few Facebook Lives and I have
- 13:04Speaker 2: to say they were a tonic. They were brilliant.
- 13:07Speaker 3: So quite an awkward thing though, eh?
- 13:08Speaker 4: Like to sit in front of like just, camera on
- 13:11Speaker 4: your own there's no feedback there's no audience reaction or
- 13:15Speaker 4: anything like that it's an odd thing you get it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: To an extent like you have to bear in mind
- 13:20Speaker 2: people had nothing.
- 13:21Speaker 1: Folk were trying to create their own entertainment but.
- 13:24Speaker 2: They had nothing like people were going out running 5k' s
- 13:27Speaker 2: and breaking world land speed records do you know what
- 13:29Speaker 2: I mean but it was like on your own though
- 13:31Speaker 2: aye aye skipping it and all that but it was
- 13:33Speaker 2: like I was kind of reluctant to do it at
- 13:37Speaker 2: the start and we I was joking as well when
- 13:39Speaker 2: lockdown when the first one came in It was magic.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Because we were so busy.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Those first six weeks were scorching as well. Oh my God,
- 13:47Speaker 3: it was so amazing.
- 13:49Speaker 2: And the first couple of weeks was like, this is
- 13:50Speaker 2: a top. Because at that stage, it was the busiest
- 13:55Speaker 2: I'd ever been and you were probably the same. And
- 13:57Speaker 2: then when the lockdown came, it was a tonic for
- 13:59Speaker 2: the first couple of weeks. But then people were like,
- 14:02Speaker 2: we can't leave the house. Like back in Ireland, you
- 14:05Speaker 2: couldn't go any more than five kilometres from your address.
- 14:08Speaker 2: And I was like, I have to do something. I
- 14:09Speaker 2: hadn't picked up a guitar. for that couple of weeks
- 14:12Speaker 2: and I was delighted. And then I was like, wasn't
- 14:14Speaker 2: the place something? And then done it. And it was
- 14:16Speaker 2: like a thousand people coming on and watching. All local
- 14:20Speaker 2: and people, but people that you would have met touring.
- 14:22Speaker 2: And people were so good. People were sending money and
- 14:25Speaker 2: sending in requests and, oh, will you give us a
- 14:27Speaker 2: shout out the next thing? You know, they'd send you
- 14:29Speaker 2: 20 quid and all that. It was brilliant, but obviously
- 14:32Speaker 2: nothing beats the real thing. But it was, it was
- 14:35Speaker 2: good for what it was. But then, like the over
- 14:38Speaker 2: here and it started to lift again. And like Danny
- 14:41Speaker 2: was my only in. Do you know what I mean?
- 14:43Speaker 2: I knew a lot of the, I wouldn't know Benny
- 14:45Speaker 2: and Marky and stuff like that, but Danny was playing
- 14:48Speaker 2: in the pubs with Marky and stuff. And that was
- 14:51Speaker 2: my in. I think the first gig I done was
- 14:53Speaker 2: in Malone's with you. I think that was the first
- 14:55Speaker 2: one we done. And then once we got in the
- 14:58Speaker 2: door with Kitties, we just got on so well with
- 15:01Speaker 2: all the staff. And like they're great friends of ours
- 15:05Speaker 2: and they're so good to us. And it's just like,
- 15:08Speaker 2: we're just in there all the time now. Do you
- 15:09Speaker 2: know what I mean? And we're so well looked after
- 15:11Speaker 2: and it is an amazing, it's an amazing place. You
- 15:14Speaker 2: know what I mean? It's an amazing place you go in,
- 15:16Speaker 2: you know what you're getting every time you go in.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I thought you were coming in. Aye.
- 15:19Speaker 1: We'd all be.
- 15:20Speaker 2: You're going to be coming in on Friday. We're still,
- 15:21Speaker 2: we're still trying to recover from that Cabo Royd trip.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I've not had a time yet.
- 15:25Speaker 1: We're a wee bit older than you remember.
- 15:27Speaker 3: We've been on the beer since Cabo Royd.
- 15:29Speaker 2: We were in Shetland.
- 15:30Speaker 6: Last weekend.
- 15:31Speaker 3: We were in Shetland.
- 15:32Speaker 2: It's a lie.
- 15:33Speaker 3: There's nothing much else to do on there.
- 15:34Speaker 2: We were in Shetland for the first time. What else
- 15:37Speaker 2: are you going to do? How was that?
- 15:39Speaker 3: How did that go?
- 15:40Speaker 2: It was actually really good.
- 15:41Speaker 1: There was 250, again, you go to these places, you
- 15:43Speaker 1: don't know what to expect. There was 250 Celtic supporters.
- 15:47Speaker 6: You can't really see Lubeau though.
- 15:49Speaker 3: You can't really see Lubeau.
- 15:50Speaker 2: It was Lubeau, wasn't it? Lubeau was our first. Ah, brilliant.
- 15:52Speaker 2: So it was a really good night.
- 15:54Speaker 1: And then with the serial experience of me, you and
- 15:57Speaker 1: Chick Young watching the Scotland game and my children, Hi guys,
- 16:01Speaker 1: as you probably well know by now, we have signed
- 16:03Speaker 1: up for the London Marathon next April and we have
- 16:08Speaker 1: some fantastic people supporting us, groups supporting us, we're doing
- 16:12Speaker 1: it for a fantastic cause, or two causes, who are
- 16:14Speaker 1: we doing it for?
- 16:14Speaker 6: We're doing it for Headway UK and the Concilium Sports Foundation.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Yep, so we're going to have some updated videos of
- 16:23Speaker 1: our progress and our training and everything else that it
- 16:26Speaker 1: takes to get us over the line He's emphasised that
- 16:29Speaker 1: time doesn't matter.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I probably agree. As long as we complete it.
- 16:33Speaker 1: There'll be a link in the bio for any charity donations.
- 16:39Speaker 1: We're going to be raising as much money as we
- 16:41Speaker 1: can over the next period of time. Our training starts
- 16:44Speaker 1: very soon. And yeah, look forward to some updates on here.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Hopefully no injuries.
- 16:50Speaker 3: We'd been invited after the gig.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Going back to the room to watch the Brazil-Morocco game,
- 16:58Speaker 1: as I said, just after that, we're like, we're just
- 17:00Speaker 1: going to stay here and watch the Scotland game as well.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Couple of turns.
- 17:05Speaker 2: It's a good game, isn't it?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Where did you watch it?
- 17:07Speaker 2: We went home down there. See, this fella, right?
- 17:11Speaker 1: Did you have a gig on that night?
- 17:13Speaker 2: Aye, we were playing immediately before, but he's... What I've noticed,
- 17:17Speaker 2: living in Glasgow, is, right, and I don't know if
- 17:20Speaker 2: it's specific to Celtic, because I can't comment on other sites, but...
- 17:25Speaker 2: they don't care about international football, right? A lot of
- 17:27Speaker 2: people are like, ah, international football, ah, what about it, right? Right?
- 17:33Speaker 2: A story before, last weekend, right? We were in Murphy's
- 17:37Speaker 2: down in the Merchant City years ago. I don't even
- 17:39Speaker 2: remember what must have been the Euros or whatever was
- 17:41Speaker 2: going on in Scotland we were playing. And we were
- 17:43Speaker 2: sitting down having a couple of pints. And he's sitting
- 17:45Speaker 2: there going, ah, international football, ah, whatever about next thing, Scotland, buff, goal.
- 17:50Speaker 2: And he went, ah we're still going we're going to
- 17:53Speaker 2: get Humptree one same old story sob story Scotland 15
- 17:58Speaker 2: minutes later both Scotland get another goal he's like ah
- 18:02Speaker 2: I don't know about that right then third goal goes
- 18:04Speaker 2: in the second half he jumps up we'll be coming
- 18:07Speaker 2: starts to chant the whole pub is going bananas right
- 18:10Speaker 2: and then he was saying all day last Friday going
- 18:12Speaker 2: ah man can't be fucking blah blah blah blah blah
- 18:16Speaker 2: blah and then we were playing immediately before the kick
- 18:19Speaker 2: off yeah upstairs in Kitty O'Shea's. And the place was bouncing.
- 18:25Speaker 1: So you were on just before?
- 18:26Speaker 2: Aye, just before. And it was heaving busy. And I
- 18:31Speaker 2: was like, right, we'll finish up. Because they wanted us off, obviously,
- 18:34Speaker 2: before the anthems. So I was like, we'll finish up,
- 18:38Speaker 2: we'll do Canada Onion, we're going to Loch Lomond after. Obviously,
- 18:41Speaker 2: everyone up and going. And the place just went ballistic.
- 18:44Speaker 2: And we were doing Loch Lomond. And I was singing
- 18:47Speaker 2: and whatever. And next thing, some guy just threw up
- 18:50Speaker 2: a salt tyre And I looked over at him playing
- 18:52Speaker 2: the whistle and he was greeting! It was emotional though,
- 18:55Speaker 2: it was emotional.
- 18:58Speaker 1: The flower of Scotland was emotional.
- 19:01Speaker 2: It was amazing.
- 19:03Speaker 6: It sounded, it did get to you. I mean, been
- 19:10Speaker 6: in different times there, but I thought that was incredible.
- 19:14Speaker 2: It was fantastic. When we got into the car, because
- 19:16Speaker 2: I was like... We finished the quarter.
- 19:18Speaker 5: I was like rushing because I had to drop him
- 19:26Speaker 5: home and I wanted to get home because the missus
- 19:28Speaker 5: had it on the iPad in the bed.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I was like, get home. We got into the car
- 19:32Speaker 2: and next thing the anthem started. We played the Haitian
- 19:35Speaker 2: national anthem first and it was whatever and it was grand.
- 19:38Speaker 2: And we were stopped at the lights just down in
- 19:40Speaker 2: the Garbles the next thing. Christ, and he's going, yes!
- 19:45Speaker 2: Hitting the ceiling, he's like, come on, Scotland but it
- 19:48Speaker 2: was it was amazing and.
- 19:50Speaker 1: With the game being Friday yous will be playing again
- 19:53Speaker 1: Kitties on Friday we are we will be no it's
- 19:57Speaker 1: late 11 o'clock so.
- 19:58Speaker 2: We're playing before and after you know what I mean
- 20:01Speaker 2: but we'll hopefully and if we get the same result
- 20:03Speaker 2: again it'll be a good one it's hard to know
- 20:05Speaker 2: because obviously I thought I.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Thought he had a good side they made it difficult
- 20:09Speaker 1: for us we were talking about it earlier you look
- 20:11Speaker 1: at Cape Verde getting a point off Spenders you just
- 20:15Speaker 1: don't know what to expect with these teams so I
- 20:17Speaker 1: think we get a wee bit of stick because we
- 20:19Speaker 1: didn't play as.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Well but you take the three points I think France
- 20:22Speaker 2: were surprised by Senegal there the first half France weren't awake.
- 20:26Speaker 7: There yesterday I thought Senegal were decent Mbappe was amazing
- 20:31Speaker 7: I thought we were only talking about on the way
- 20:33Speaker 7: up when the commentator when, what's the boy that scored
- 20:36Speaker 7: the goal for Senegal, the place for PSG?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Young boy, he scored, he was a screamer of a
- 20:44Speaker 2: goal he scored, and not 30 seconds later Mbappe just bang,
- 20:48Speaker 2: and the commentator on top of it was like, anything
- 20:51Speaker 2: you can do, I can do better, he's like, I'm
- 20:53Speaker 2: still the king, and I was like, and I don't
- 20:55Speaker 2: like Mbappe, like, I just don't like him, but I
- 20:58Speaker 2: was like.
- 20:59Speaker 8: Something straight yeah he's unbelievable but the kid took his
- 21:01Speaker 8: goal well as well yeah he's a young laddie as
- 21:04Speaker 8: well he's only 18 or something but I think Mbappé
- 21:07Speaker 8: even knows because he gave him a hug after the
- 21:10Speaker 8: game was over and I reckon he not because the
- 21:12Speaker 8: boys were saying he's the heir apparent in PSG.
- 21:15Speaker 3: He's doing the fantasy football thing.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I normally do it but I've no doubt is it
- 21:20Speaker 1: the World.
- 21:20Speaker 4: Cup I've no doubt it's my first time doing it
- 21:22Speaker 4: how are you getting on don't know how to work.
- 21:23Speaker 3: It Can he work it on the phone?
- 21:27Speaker 1: I actually had a wee look and couldn't find it.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Never mind how to work it.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Can he work it on the phone?
- 21:31Speaker 4: And then I had Mbappé, but it wasn't until after
- 21:35Speaker 4: the game I realised he was sitting on my bench.
- 21:38Speaker 3: So he scored two goals and I'd have been shot
- 21:40Speaker 3: right up the leg.
- 21:42Speaker 1: I normally do the English Premiership one, but I literally
- 21:46Speaker 1: couldn't find it.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Aye. That's my first time. First time. Bottom of the league,
- 21:49Speaker 3: I'm sitting.
- 21:49Speaker 2: No! Second bottom. He will if you've got Mbappé on
- 21:51Speaker 2: the bench. He's not used to it, though.
- 21:54Speaker 4: And I had the Hingway boy, I had the boy
- 21:56Speaker 4: for Spain, and they were tortured, eh?
- 21:59Speaker 1: They struggled, they struggled. They'll get better, Spain will get better,
- 22:03Speaker 1: but aye, they struggled. Kate Verdi just defended with her life,
- 22:07Speaker 1: didn't they? Made it difficult for them.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I think the goalie, what was it, 50,000 followers? Aye,
- 22:12Speaker 4: he's up to 7.7 million or something.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Is that 20 now? 11 million.
- 22:14Speaker 1: You're joking?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Wow. Unbelievable.
- 22:16Speaker 4: I saw it when it went up to 1.5, it's
- 22:18Speaker 4: gone up to 11 million.
- 22:20Speaker 3: Incredible, isn't it?
- 22:24Speaker 2: It is crazy, man. That's the platform you're on, though.
- 22:28Speaker 1: If you go and do anything at all on that platform,
- 22:30Speaker 1: I mean, it's just.
- 22:31Speaker 3: Global stage.
- 22:32Speaker 2: Global. But even, like, see, when the opening game was on,
- 22:35Speaker 2: was it Mexico and South Africa? Yeah. Like, everyone watched it.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Everyone was showing, like, people that were saying, ah, the
- 22:42Speaker 2: full opening of the World Cup, we put that on there. Like,
- 22:44Speaker 2: there must have been some viewership for that. I'd love
- 22:46Speaker 2: to see all the figures.
- 22:47Speaker 4: I saw a thing, I know, it said there's 250
- 22:49Speaker 4: million watched the Super Bowl.
- 22:52Speaker 2: Aye.
- 22:53Speaker 4: And 1.2... Billions watch the World Cup.
- 22:57Speaker 2: It always gives umps. I've written football, haven't I? It's amazing.
- 23:00Speaker 2: No matter where it is.
- 23:01Speaker 3: You love it now.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Aye. But it is, that's what I'm saying about, I
- 23:06Speaker 2: suppose going back to Cabo Roig, like, you see people
- 23:11Speaker 2: of all ages, from kids to octogenarians walking about and like,
- 23:18Speaker 2: what's that boy's name? Duff. Duff. Duff, I know. Like,
- 23:21Speaker 2: going around in a scooter, and he had a different
- 23:22Speaker 2: colour suit on every day, and, like, it was amazing.
- 23:25Speaker 1: He was at Celtic Park every week, that guy.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Ah, amazing.
- 23:27Speaker 1: So I was across every week.
- 23:28Speaker 2: You know, and, like, it was amazing to see, and
- 23:30Speaker 2: I said, we spoke about it as well, like.
- 23:32Speaker 3: Sharp head, a sharp tongue, didn't he?
- 23:34Speaker 4: Aye. We were getting a photo, we asked for a
- 23:36Speaker 4: photo with him, man, and he says, aye, no boner,
- 23:39Speaker 4: so we put him in the middle, and the woman
- 23:41Speaker 4: was taking the photo, and she was struggling with it,
- 23:43Speaker 4: and he says, it's the way it turned out to be,
- 23:45Speaker 4: and we're like, ah. You wouldn't want to be working
- 23:47Speaker 4: the morning.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Shut up man. But everyone was like, you'd want to
- 23:54Speaker 2: have had thick skin over there with the crew of
- 23:57Speaker 2: us that was in it. 100%. You know, but even like.
- 24:00Speaker 1: That was like us, like you talk about Peter in
- 24:02Speaker 1: the dressing room, that was us coming into that dressing
- 24:04Speaker 1: room because we were, there was an age gap there.
- 24:06Speaker 1: It was like there, most of the team were of
- 24:08Speaker 1: an age and then there was maybe a five, six,
- 24:11Speaker 1: maybe more gap.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yes.
- 24:13Speaker 8: So you had to have thick skin.
- 24:15Speaker 1: So I knew what was coming with you guys when
- 24:17Speaker 1: you got off the plane, but I think it made you.
- 24:20Speaker 2: You know.
- 24:20Speaker 4: I could actually, I remember telling me your face in
- 24:23Speaker 4: the motor.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I knew it was coming.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I knew it was coming. I think it was a
- 24:28Speaker 2: good way.
- 24:28Speaker 4: To get his.
- 24:29Speaker 2: You kind of felt even, there was a bit of
- 24:31Speaker 2: you that kind of felt like a sorry face. Because
- 24:33Speaker 2: it just kept going.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I knew it was coming.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I mean, Joe, when they stopped, relentless.
- 24:38Speaker 6: When I first joined, I was a little bit young.
- 24:41Speaker 6: First day, and he'd granted he'd put Power Rangers out
- 24:44Speaker 6: in my space. coming in there, I was like, what
- 24:46Speaker 6: the hell is this?
- 24:47Speaker 2: We're 21 year old.
- 24:48Speaker 6: So like you coming into that, it is like a
- 24:50Speaker 6: dressing room environment, you know, in the first wee bit
- 24:53Speaker 6: and he starts giving you a bit of stick and,
- 24:55Speaker 6: talking about other bands and all that and yous are shite.
- 24:59Speaker 3: Don't know how many times we heard that last week man.
- 25:01Speaker 6: That's what a dressing room is like, just to get
- 25:04Speaker 6: a bite, to get a reaction.
- 25:06Speaker 2: And you got a few with him too.
- 25:07Speaker 3: When you spot, see when you see.
- 25:08Speaker 4: Him, I know obviously that's the act professional and all that,
- 25:10Speaker 4: but see when you see him on the telly and that.
- 25:12Speaker 3: Doesn't he strike you as that? I didn't expect that
- 25:14Speaker 3: from him, I think that's what caught me out.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Well it was brilliant, like he, what I loved about
- 25:19Speaker 2: it as well, even from Yee, And we even fell
- 25:24Speaker 2: into it. Ye all hold, he's El Capitan. Do you
- 25:27Speaker 2: know what I mean? And ye all felt that. And
- 25:29Speaker 2: everyone kind of looked to Grantie to kind of, what
- 25:32Speaker 2: are we doing here now? Never forget your soldiers. Don't
- 25:36Speaker 2: forget the rules. Everyone knows the rules. He got a
- 25:38Speaker 2: double bed.
- 25:39Speaker 4: He was allocated a double bed.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I know, but it was.
- 25:44Speaker 3: He told me to take you home and off I went.
- 25:49Speaker 2: That was a funny one. Chinese whispers, how people get
- 25:51Speaker 2: cut out. Chinese whispers. Exactly. And then he's been going
- 25:54Speaker 2: around telling everyone, right? Back at home. And I'm getting
- 25:57Speaker 2: texts from people going, I heard you stuck the head
- 25:59Speaker 2: in Simon Danly the other night.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I'll need to show you the photo.
- 26:02Speaker 2: One of the boys. Have you seen it?
- 26:05Speaker 1: No.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Oh, mate. McBride?
- 26:07Speaker 4: Aye.
- 26:07Speaker 2: 100% did I.
- 26:08Speaker 3: One of the boys made a photo.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Did he? Aye. Did I show you that? No.
- 26:17Speaker 1: That is you and we always had the Stefan Matty.
- 26:27Speaker 3: In the background.
- 26:30Speaker 4: He's obviously just ripped that one up. He's picked a
- 26:33Speaker 4: good photo.
- 26:34Speaker 2: That is funny man. I've never seen that.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Grant will need to speak to to Collie and make
- 26:41Speaker 1: sure you get your invite back next year he's the
- 26:43Speaker 1: captain he's got that influence.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Granted you're alright we don't need your influence but no
- 26:49Speaker 2: Collie in fairness like and from the get go like
- 26:53Speaker 2: you've seen it yourself you arrive there Dickie's there to
- 26:56Speaker 2: pick you up you're brought into the pub what are
- 26:58Speaker 2: you having for a drink there lads right we'll get
- 27:01Speaker 2: you into the digs there you are is that the
- 27:03Speaker 2: first kind of thing that you've done of.
- 27:05Speaker 1: That of a football sort of thing you touched on
- 27:08Speaker 1: touring you touched on touring I think you said France.
- 27:12Speaker 1: So have you toured together?
- 27:13Speaker 2: All over? Aye, aye, aye.
- 27:15Speaker 3: We've done a lot of Europe.
- 27:17Speaker 1: What was that like in comparison then to other festivals?
- 27:21Speaker 2: It's funny, like, so I was only thinking about this
- 27:23Speaker 2: during the week, obviously thinking about what we'd speak about,
- 27:26Speaker 2: but it was like, what we'd done with Irish Celtic,
- 27:31Speaker 2: that's a massive production. Huge production. Three Arctic trucks, 15,
- 27:35Speaker 2: 16 crew, plus in-house crew at the venues. And it's
- 27:40Speaker 2: not dissimilar to what ye would have went through playing
- 27:44Speaker 2: football in a way. And what I mean by that is.
- 27:46Speaker 1: Was there so different bands going to these places?
- 27:48Speaker 2: No, this is the one house band. So there's five
- 27:51Speaker 2: in the band and then there's like 15 dancers. Something
- 27:54Speaker 2: like that, aye. And it's regimented, right? Everyone's working off
- 27:59Speaker 2: a click track. Full lights, full... It's like a West
- 28:02Speaker 2: End show, basically, the tours. But it's so similar in
- 28:06Speaker 2: that you wake up in the hotel... you go on
- 28:10Speaker 2: the bus, you go to the venue. Like ye, you
- 28:13Speaker 2: wake up at the team hotel, you go on the bus,
- 28:15Speaker 2: you go to the stadium. And it's like, you go in,
- 28:17Speaker 2: you do your sound check, you do your warm-up. You
- 28:20Speaker 2: go in, right, you go and wait for the gig
- 28:22Speaker 2: to come, you get ready to go on to the pitch,
- 28:24Speaker 2: we go out and do the show, there's a half-time,
- 28:26Speaker 2: you go out, and it was so, and it's that
- 28:28Speaker 2: regimented thing of, and like, we were doing gigs too,
- 28:31Speaker 2: like we've done some of the most amazing, like the
- 28:34Speaker 2: Alta Opera in Frankfurt, which is like 3,000, but it's,
- 28:38Speaker 2: this opulent, gorgeous building, like the Feshbielhaus in Baden-Baden, the
- 28:43Speaker 2: Dome de Paris, the Seine Musicale, which is the big,
- 28:46Speaker 2: massive venue on the Seine in Paris. We've done some
- 28:49Speaker 2: of the most renowned venues in Paris. Like, what we've
- 28:53Speaker 2: done there was so regimented. And it was the same
- 28:57Speaker 2: every night, because that's just the way the show had
- 28:59Speaker 2: to be. It was militant in that way. But it
- 29:02Speaker 2: was amazing, because you were going from playing in a 1,000-seater Victorian.
- 29:09Speaker 2: With all the red velvet seats and everyone's in it
- 29:11Speaker 2: like that to play in Zenith stadiums which are the
- 29:15Speaker 2: size of the Hydra. You know what I mean? And
- 29:18Speaker 2: what was nice about it as well was you were
- 29:19Speaker 2: doing these massive gigs and like when you got a
- 29:23Speaker 2: good crowd, it was like you'd come off the stage,
- 29:25Speaker 2: you'd be buzzing. You'd be electric, people giving you a
- 29:27Speaker 2: standing ovation. But the thing that was great about it was,
- 29:30Speaker 2: see if you walked out without the guitar on your back,
- 29:32Speaker 2: no one had a clue where you were. Do you
- 29:34Speaker 2: know what I mean? People wouldn't care. But then if
- 29:36Speaker 2: you walked out and you had the guitar on your
- 29:38Speaker 2: back and all that, people are, oh, we have four, blah, blah. blah, blah, blah.
- 29:41Speaker 2: We'd be just, we'd go to the pub straight away.
- 29:42Speaker 2: We'd be out before the crowd half the time.
- 29:45Speaker 4: You must have had it yourself when you travelled with
- 29:47Speaker 4: the team and that. European ties, you'd go, you'd spend
- 29:50Speaker 4: maybe a day or two there, you'd see nothing.
- 29:53Speaker 3: So we used to get that quite a lot.
- 29:54Speaker 2: That's what I was about to say. You're just going
- 29:55Speaker 2: through one venue.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Although you're appreciating the actual venue you're in, you're not seeing.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Much else, are you?
- 30:00Speaker 3: Sometimes you didn't really get it.
- 30:01Speaker 1: And how long would you be away for then?
- 30:03Speaker 2: We could be 12 weeks. We'd done a 12-week tour
- 30:07Speaker 2: one time.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Maybe one, 12. There was a few nines.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Nine was the average. Nine, ten.
- 30:12Speaker 3: Six weeks. I mean, we were lucky enough to go
- 30:15Speaker 3: and see the world.
- 30:16Speaker 4: We went to North America, to Canada, Asia.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I mean, before.
- 30:22Speaker 4: You joined, we've done kind of Australia and New Zealand
- 30:24Speaker 4: and stuff as well, which was amazing. But lucky enough
- 30:27Speaker 4: to kind of see a bit of the world with it.
- 30:29Speaker 2: But like, as you say, like.
- 30:31Speaker 1: So the difference with the one two weeks ago is
- 30:33Speaker 1: probably it's a wee bit more relaxed.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Definitely.
- 30:36Speaker 3: You can chill and they're the ones you enjoy.
- 30:38Speaker 2: They're the ones you want. I think we're at an
- 30:40Speaker 2: age now, like, it's kind of slag. I know I'm
- 30:43Speaker 2: only 30, but it's a young man's game going out
- 30:47Speaker 2: on the road for nine, ten weeks. Like I have
- 30:49Speaker 2: a three-year-old and I'm getting married next year and it's like, we,
- 30:54Speaker 2: like I've toured.
- 30:55Speaker 1: We were saying that after Cabo Roig. It was only
- 30:59Speaker 1: five nights.
- 31:01Speaker 3: That did fuel that a couple.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Of weeks though.
- 31:04Speaker 3: Three days on.
- 31:05Speaker 2: But it's funny, like when we go away and it's
- 31:09Speaker 2: like the older you get, the less time you want
- 31:11Speaker 2: to be away, a lot of the time as well.
- 31:13Speaker 2: But like going out to France there and you're away
- 31:16Speaker 2: for nine, ten weeks, See, getting a young lad now,
- 31:19Speaker 2: if he's just at uni, that's the gig you want.
- 31:21Speaker 2: You're not getting to see places all the time, but
- 31:26Speaker 2: we were lucky there. I think it might have been
- 31:29Speaker 2: our last tour that we'd done. It was very unusual
- 31:32Speaker 2: for us to be in one place for more than
- 31:35Speaker 2: a night. Normally when you're touring, it's like you'd be
- 31:37Speaker 2: in Leon this night and you'd be in Pole this
- 31:40Speaker 2: night and the next day is a six hour drive.
- 31:43Speaker 2: But when you were in the big cities, you normally
- 31:44Speaker 2: done a five day residency. With the last one that
- 31:47Speaker 2: we done in France, we were in Paris for 10 days.
- 31:51Speaker 2: So you thought that six days in Cabo Roig was long.
- 31:53Speaker 2: See that 10 days in Paris, boys? I felt like
- 31:55Speaker 2: we were there for six months. I remember waking up
- 31:57Speaker 2: in the room going, oh my God, we're still in Paris.
- 32:01Speaker 2: We're still in Paris. And it was mental. But like,
- 32:05Speaker 2: the grass is always greener.
- 32:06Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say. We've always said that.
- 32:09Speaker 2: The grass is always greener.
- 32:09Speaker 4: The grass is always greener because when you're doing that,
- 32:12Speaker 4: you're wanting to do these gigs. And then see when
- 32:14Speaker 4: you get to do a lot of these gigs.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 3: You're like, oh, I kind of miss going and doing
- 32:18Speaker 3: the big things, so.
- 32:19Speaker 1: Paris sounds good.
- 32:20Speaker 2: But it's even. I know you're working, but. Aye, but
- 32:22Speaker 2: even like, for me, right, the way, just for me personally,
- 32:27Speaker 2: the way the career kind of went with, when I
- 32:30Speaker 2: done the gig in Disney, it was amazing, 19, full
- 32:33Speaker 2: of piss and vinegar, thought I was the man, the
- 32:34Speaker 2: chest out, you know, and then you get knocked back
- 32:37Speaker 2: into line fairly quick, and I needed that, like, and
- 32:39Speaker 2: when I was out there, I thought I was the man,
- 32:41Speaker 2: but I had friends that were good enough around me
- 32:43Speaker 2: to say, don't get too fucking cocksure of yourself.
- 32:46Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Which I needed. I was lucky enough to have people
- 32:48Speaker 2: like that around me, but then when I left that
- 32:51Speaker 2: and went and joined the Young Wolftones, that was my
- 32:53Speaker 2: first time touring. And it was like, you'd land in,
- 32:58Speaker 2: you'd go and get the big van, and it was
- 33:00Speaker 2: like you were packing all these cases with all the
- 33:02Speaker 2: gear and the equipment, and it was like... Good grounding
- 33:05Speaker 2: for you. Oh, it was that all right. It was like...
- 33:08Speaker 2: I'll give you an example. There was one time we'd
- 33:13Speaker 2: done a... It was a private house party gig in Philadelphia...
- 33:16Speaker 2: We got off the stage about 11 o'clock on a
- 33:18Speaker 2: Sunday night. The next gig was in Houston, Texas, which
- 33:24Speaker 2: is about a 27-hour drive, and that was on the
- 33:27Speaker 2: Tuesday night, right? So we packed the van, drove about
- 33:32Speaker 2: 15 hours down to Memphis, got there in the afternoon,
- 33:35Speaker 2: went and done Graceland, went and done Sun Studios and
- 33:37Speaker 2: done all that, and it was great. But then it
- 33:39Speaker 2: was like, right, we're up at 5 o'clock, get back
- 33:42Speaker 2: in the van, we've another 10 hours to drive. And
- 33:45Speaker 2: it was just, it was that.
- 33:46Speaker 8: I've got abandoned planes, trains and automobiles in my head.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Joint candy. That's what it is. Like another time, I
- 33:55Speaker 2: think I told you about this one, out in Spain.
- 33:58Speaker 2: We were doing a festival up in upstate New York
- 34:00Speaker 2: and Norwegian used to do the cheap transatlantic flights between
- 34:03Speaker 2: Dublin and Stewart Airport. So Stewart Airport was about two
- 34:06Speaker 2: hours north of Manhattan. But if you got the flight
- 34:09Speaker 2: with them, they were like the Ryanair of a transatlantic flight.
- 34:12Speaker 2: But if you got the flight with them, included in
- 34:14Speaker 2: the ticket was your bus fare that would bring you
- 34:16Speaker 2: to Manhattan. It was a two hour drive. And we
- 34:19Speaker 2: used to fly with Delta. So we used to normally fly,
- 34:21Speaker 2: you'd fly to JFK, but he was like, we're better
- 34:23Speaker 2: off flying there because the festival is 15 minutes around
- 34:25Speaker 2: the corner. Flew in on the Friday morning, left Dublin
- 34:30Speaker 2: at eight o'clock, landed at one, got in the van,
- 34:34Speaker 2: drove to the festival, on stage at four, played till five,
- 34:38Speaker 2: back in the van, back to the airport, on the
- 34:41Speaker 2: eight o'clock flight back to Dublin. Like I wouldn't do
- 34:44Speaker 2: that now. Not a hope. You'd want to pay me stupidly,
- 34:47Speaker 2: it'd be a phone number amount of money to do that.
- 34:50Speaker 2: But see when you're in your early 20s, oh magic,
- 34:54Speaker 2: going to New York for seven hours. Yeah, sign me up.
- 34:57Speaker 2: But then it was like, you're in a van over
- 35:00Speaker 2: there and you're trying to lie down and the first
- 35:02Speaker 2: day you go out you're into this Walmart to buy
- 35:04Speaker 2: your pillow and your duvet the seatbelt buckle is digging
- 35:07Speaker 2: into your sides and one of the boys is up
- 35:09Speaker 2: in the pack of stinky crisps and someone else is
- 35:12Speaker 2: smoking oh shit someone's farting and then it's like.
- 35:15Speaker 1: By the way there'll be a few guys in the
- 35:16Speaker 1: Tartan Army doing that 100% 100% especially if we get
- 35:20Speaker 1: into the knockout.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Stages aye but even like you go from that and
- 35:24Speaker 2: then we went when I joined Irish Celtic it was
- 35:27Speaker 2: a big tour bus and I had a microwave and
- 35:30Speaker 2: a toilet and I was like oh this is amazing
- 35:33Speaker 2: and then you do that for seven years and you
- 35:35Speaker 2: go it's kind of let's go to Cabo Roig yeah
- 35:39Speaker 2: let's go to Cabo Roig and just get fucking slated
- 35:42Speaker 2: for the six days that we're there but as you
- 35:45Speaker 2: say I've seen the Tartan Army they're running out of
- 35:47Speaker 2: beer over.
- 35:48Speaker 1: There man they ran out but I think there was
- 35:49Speaker 1: tenants reloaded but they'd run out of tenants a couple
- 35:52Speaker 1: of nights ago.
- 35:53Speaker 2: And Guinness and Guinness and apparently Sam Adams which is
- 35:57Speaker 2: brewed in Boston they're running out.
- 35:59Speaker 1: As well It's a tight army for you, isn't it?
- 36:02Speaker 2: It's a good game to go.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Guys, yous have been amazing. Thanks for coming on. It
- 36:07Speaker 1: was great to meet you.
- 36:08Speaker 2: Thanks for having us. We'll be in it, Kitties. Rest assured,
- 36:10Speaker 2: we'll be in it. We'll make sure to knock you back.
- 36:14Speaker 1: We did a request.
- 36:16Speaker 3: We were allowed to do a request before.
- 36:19Speaker 2: On the last night. What was Granny's?
- 36:21Speaker 1: Can you just remind us about Granny's and why you
- 36:23Speaker 1: chose Peter's song?
- 36:25Speaker 2: Well, everyone had asked for a song. You'd asked for
- 36:29Speaker 2: Stone Roses. Yeah. what did you ask for? Oh, you
- 36:32Speaker 2: just got up and you wanted to sing and you
- 36:33Speaker 2: didn't hear Tomo going up and singing again. Lonesome Boatman.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Lonesome Boatman.
- 36:37Speaker 3: Aye, that's right.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Everybody had one. Tomo wanted Dignity and I sang it
- 36:42Speaker 2: and then he proceeded to sing it again straight after
- 36:44Speaker 2: me and then Joe Miller.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Wanted Stick Season.
- 36:50Speaker 2: And you'll never walk alone but then Grantney didn't want
- 36:53Speaker 2: to ask for one I think he was being he
- 36:55Speaker 2: was trying to give us a dig at Capitan and
- 36:58Speaker 2: I said you know what I'm going to give is
- 36:59Speaker 2: a right everyone this is Pink Pony Club for Peter
- 37:01Speaker 2: Grant thinking I'd get a bit of a dig and
- 37:03Speaker 2: I looked down and he was loving it loving it
- 37:06Speaker 2: I was like water off a duck's back there's no
- 37:08Speaker 2: point even trying.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Well hope to see you there again next year.
- 37:12Speaker 3: Aye absolutely man good invite you'll.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Be in the post boys thanks for coming on it
- 37:15Speaker 4: Was a brilliant night thanks man
