- 0:00Speaker 1: All Star Toyota presents Off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:04Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Okay, here we go where the.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Players get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:10Speaker 2: This I got to come off the bitch.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Hour two of.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Off the Bench live from the Raising Kine Studio.
- 0:22Speaker 2: All right, welcome back in.
- 0:24Speaker 4: It is OTB here live from Raus's and you heard
- 0:28Speaker 4: Tata there. As soon as they go live on the
- 0:30Speaker 4: press conference, we will send you directly over there. So
- 0:35Speaker 4: when we see somebody at the podium, we are going
- 0:38Speaker 4: to throw it to the press conference kind of a
- 0:40Speaker 4: state of where LSU football, LSU athletics is after they've
- 0:45Speaker 4: had a lot of things going on, a lot of movement.
- 0:50Speaker 4: You've had head coach fired, You've had the athletic director fired.
- 0:53Speaker 4: And I believe, if I'm not mistaken, we are ready
- 0:56Speaker 4: to go. So we are going to send you here
- 1:00Speaker 4: in a little bit to the We're trying to get
- 1:02Speaker 4: pulled up right now. We're gonna send you to the
- 1:04Speaker 4: press conference for LSU and it's gonna be kind of
- 1:07Speaker 4: a just a hey, state of the union, because Matt,
- 1:10Speaker 4: there's a lot of things going on. I think a
- 1:11Speaker 4: lot of people will want to understand where LSU's at
- 1:14Speaker 4: right now, and there's going to be some questions that
- 1:17Speaker 4: certainly hope at least get asked about the stability of
- 1:22Speaker 4: where you're at just from everything from everything, like, Okay,
- 1:26Speaker 4: what's the structure going to be when we're going to
- 1:28Speaker 4: have a president, when we're gonna have an ad, when
- 1:30Speaker 4: we're gonna have a coach, because right now you are
- 1:33Speaker 4: just floating in the air just with nowhere to land.
- 1:36Speaker 2: You're in purgatory right now.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean what I expect to hear is
- 1:39Speaker 5: kind of, you know, some feel good statements. Hey, we
- 1:44Speaker 5: got this under control. We'll give you more information as
- 1:46Speaker 5: it goes, but you know, hopefully we don't. Hopefully we
- 1:48Speaker 5: get some sort of detail into the thought process of
- 1:52Speaker 5: the decisions that have been made in the thought process
- 1:54Speaker 5: and timeline of what they expect. Hopefully it's not just
- 1:56Speaker 5: a bunch of word salads up there. So we'll see.
- 2:03Speaker 2: So who's speaking in this press conference there?
- 2:09Speaker 4: Thinking like, hm, who would actually be the person behind
- 2:14Speaker 4: the microphone right now? That's a good question, you know
- 2:18Speaker 4: what I mean, could typically be the president. If it
- 2:20Speaker 4: was the president, would be the athletic director.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Yep I guess merge.
- 2:27Speaker 5: The head of the board is Scott Ballard of could
- 2:33Speaker 5: be him, but I mean I guess yeah, the interim
- 2:36Speaker 5: athletic director. I would assume yeah, I would assume it
- 2:39Speaker 5: would be virgin.
- 2:40Speaker 2: All right, So we're gonna throw it back to studio A.
- 2:42Speaker 4: Landra does have the audio ready to go of the
- 2:46Speaker 4: l s U press conference and staff.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I'll say it again, this is l s U.
- 2:54Speaker 6: With that, it is my honor an excitement to introduce
- 2:59Speaker 6: the ex interim Athletic Director of LSUGE.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Thank you, Chairman Carlmush. I would like to give thanks
- 3:12Speaker 7: to Scott Ballard, Chairman of the Boy Supervisors, John Carmush,
- 3:17Speaker 7: Chairman Athletic part of the board, to the university administration
- 3:22Speaker 7: and the fellow board members for giving me this opportunity.
- 3:26Speaker 2: This is a grappat tune.
- 3:26Speaker 7: I'm a little boy from New Iberia, Louisiana who had
- 3:29Speaker 7: the opportunity to come here in nineteen eighty five. Started
- 3:33Speaker 7: the bottom, started last on a depth chart, worked my
- 3:37Speaker 7: way through the ranks. I was able to start here
- 3:41Speaker 7: two years, lead the team in tackles, two years, played
- 3:44Speaker 7: on some very successful teams to SEC championship teams That's
- 3:47Speaker 7: why I started from the hard work Paul aiding that
- 3:50Speaker 7: into my career here started the bottom again as a
- 3:53Speaker 7: graduate assistant, working in compliance, working in academics, working with
- 4:00Speaker 7: how Athletic Foundation. From there socialth letic director with skip Bergmann,
- 4:05Speaker 7: work my way through the ranks. So I know what
- 4:07Speaker 7: hard work is. I know what it is to be
- 4:08Speaker 7: a part of LSH. I walked these halls, I walked
- 4:11Speaker 7: those squads. I walked Allen Hall, Coats Hall, all the
- 4:13Speaker 7: great halls at LSU. I want to know how fan
- 4:17Speaker 7: based on one thing, LSU is not broken. LSH Athletic
- 4:20Speaker 7: Department is not broken. I think we have the best
- 4:23Speaker 7: athletic department in the country. I think we have the
- 4:26Speaker 7: best staff in the country. The executive team is second
- 4:28Speaker 7: to none. I put them up against anyone. They're the
- 4:31Speaker 7: best and they would get the job of the.
- 4:33Speaker 8: Border supervisors and the person who've made chair of the
- 4:37Speaker 8: LSU Athletic Committee, who will give you more information about
- 4:41Speaker 8: your next steps about our next step.
- 4:44Speaker 6: Thanks Chairman Valid. What an exciting day here today at LSU.
- 4:49Speaker 6: As Chair of Athletics Committee, it is my responsibility with
- 4:52Speaker 6: my fellow board members to ensure that LSU athletics is
- 4:56Speaker 6: positioned as a national leader in college sport.
- 5:01Speaker 9: It is important to me and many others the.
- 5:03Speaker 6: LSU and our state restore balance so we can reclaim
- 5:08Speaker 6: the future we built in athletics as an institution and
- 5:13Speaker 6: as a state. As we transition into the next chapter,
- 5:18Speaker 6: I'm proud to introduce Verge Ausbury as an interim director
- 5:22Speaker 6: of Athletics, and I have to tell you we are
- 5:25Speaker 6: very excited. Verge is the ideal person to lead this
- 5:29Speaker 6: department through this change, and I want to be very
- 5:34Speaker 6: clear he has full authority to do so. That includes
- 5:39Speaker 6: leading the search for our next head coach and hiring
- 5:43Speaker 6: our next head coach.
- 5:46Speaker 9: Verge is a native son of Louisiana and LSU.
- 5:49Speaker 6: He is a multi multi time alumnus of this institution,
- 5:54Speaker 6: a former championship winning linebacker.
- 5:58Speaker 2: For the football team.
- 6:00Speaker 9: In a long time senior university administrator.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Simply put, he.
- 6:06Speaker 6: Spent all of his adult life working to make this
- 6:10Speaker 6: athletic department and this state better. Not only has Verge
- 6:15Speaker 6: worked in almost every area of that athletic department since
- 6:18Speaker 6: he started as an employee in nineteen ninety one, but
- 6:21Speaker 6: he's also been a tremendous asset to the university leadership
- 6:26Speaker 6: with his campus role in government, governmental and community relations.
- 6:32Speaker 9: From the time he arrived on campus.
- 6:34Speaker 6: As a football student athlete, ViRGE has been associated with
- 6:38Speaker 6: excellence and championship. That's the standard he will uphold as
- 6:45Speaker 6: interim Athletic Director.
- 6:48Speaker 9: Let's all ways, remember this is LSU.
- 6:54Speaker 6: This is the greatest athletics program in the country, and
- 6:59Speaker 6: we will continue to be an elite destination for student athletes, coaches,
- 7:06Speaker 6: and staff.
- 7:08Speaker 9: I'll say it again, this is LSU.
- 7:12Speaker 6: With that, it is my honor and excitement to introduce
- 7:17Speaker 6: the next interim Athletic Director of LSU.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Merge Asburg.
- 7:27Speaker 7: Thank you, Chairman Carlmush. I would like to get thanks
- 7:29Speaker 7: to Scott Ballard, Chairman of the Boy Supervisors, John Carmush,
- 7:35Speaker 7: Chairman Athletic part of the Board, to the university administration
- 7:39Speaker 7: and the fellow board.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Members for giving me this opportunity. This is a grapper tune.
- 7:44Speaker 7: I'm a little boy from New Ibera, Louisiana who had
- 7:47Speaker 7: the opportunity to come here in nineteen eighty five. Started
- 7:50Speaker 7: at the bottom, started last on the depth chart, worked
- 7:55Speaker 7: my way through the ranks. I was able to start
- 7:58Speaker 7: here two years lead the team in tackles, two years
- 8:01Speaker 7: played on some very successful teams, two SEC championship teams.
- 8:05Speaker 7: That's why I start from the hard work Paul aid,
- 8:08Speaker 7: and then to my career here started to bottom again.
- 8:11Speaker 7: It's a graduate assistant working in compliance, working in academics,
- 8:17Speaker 7: working from their Tiger Athletic foundation, from their social letter
- 8:20Speaker 7: director with skip Bergmann, work my way through the ranks,
- 8:24Speaker 7: so I know what hard work is. I know what
- 8:25Speaker 7: it is to be a part of LSH. I walked
- 8:28Speaker 7: these halls, I walked those squads, I walked Allen Hall,
- 8:30Speaker 7: coachs Hall, all the great halls at LSU. I want
- 8:34Speaker 7: to know our fan based on one thing. LSU is
- 8:37Speaker 7: not broken. Lschathlete apartment is not broken. I think we
- 8:40Speaker 7: have the best athletic department in the country. I think
- 8:43Speaker 7: we have the best staff in the country. The executive
- 8:45Speaker 7: team is second or none. I put them up against anyone.
- 8:49Speaker 7: They're the best and they would get the job done.
- 8:52Speaker 7: Our coaches a second or none. We have the best.
- 8:55Speaker 7: We have championship coaches here. I've been blessed to work
- 8:59Speaker 7: with championship coaches Kill Malki, Jay Clark, Jay Johnson, Dennis Schaeffer,
- 9:06Speaker 7: who's not here with track team, Garrett Runyon, who won
- 9:10Speaker 7: a national championship in golf as an assistant coach here at LSH.
- 9:14Speaker 7: They're great coaches and many other great coaches who win championships.
- 9:18Speaker 7: That's what we expect here we LSU. This place is
- 9:21Speaker 7: not Brooklyn, that's later Department's not Brooklyn.
- 9:23Speaker 2: We win. I mean part of eighteen national.
- 9:25Speaker 7: Championships at LSU as an administrator, six recently, been part of
- 9:31Speaker 7: four national championship games, won three national championships, been part
- 9:35Speaker 7: of seven SEC championships two as a player. I know
- 9:38Speaker 7: what it takes to win. We know what it takes
- 9:41Speaker 7: to win, and that's our jobs and that's our mission.
- 9:45Speaker 7: I mean, fortunate enough to work with three of the
- 9:46Speaker 7: best coaches in the world, Kill Malki, Nick Saban, and
- 9:50Speaker 7: Skip Bertman. So my heritage go back with those people
- 9:54Speaker 7: and the ability that they gave me and what they
- 9:56Speaker 7: taught me to be the best. We're going to be
- 9:59Speaker 7: the best at a the third quarter, the fourth quarter,
- 10:03Speaker 7: put the third and fourth quarter. Last week, I walked
- 10:06Speaker 7: on the field during that football game, and I just
- 10:09Speaker 7: wanted to see what was going on when you're a
- 10:11Speaker 7: good administrator. You just don't watch what's going on on
- 10:14Speaker 7: the field. You watch the sidelines, you watch the stands,
- 10:17Speaker 7: you watch everything around you. That's important to be a
- 10:19Speaker 7: good administrator. I went down there on that field, I
- 10:22Speaker 7: saw something. I saw empty seats. It's empty suites. I
- 10:27Speaker 7: saw our stadium, Tiger Stadium, halfway empty. It's not a
- 10:31Speaker 7: good thing. Witty Hay has always said a worst word
- 10:34Speaker 7: in addictionary's apathy. This program cannot have apathy in no way.
- 10:39Speaker 2: A means.
- 10:40Speaker 7: We have to win. We have to be successful. We
- 10:44Speaker 7: are just say this all the time. We're the movie makers.
- 10:48Speaker 7: We're the financers, the administrators, the coaches, you're the producers.
- 10:54Speaker 7: The athletes, which is for the most important, they're the actors.
- 10:58Speaker 7: That's who are important here to us. We have to
- 11:00Speaker 7: do everything to make sure that the student athletes get
- 11:02Speaker 7: what they need, the coaches get what they need. Our
- 11:06Speaker 7: job is support. Next chapter is that to high football coach.
- 11:11Speaker 7: I'm hire the best football coach there is. That's our jobs.
- 11:15Speaker 7: We're going to go out there. We are not going
- 11:17Speaker 7: to let this program fail. LSU has to be in
- 11:21Speaker 7: the playoffs every year. In football, there's twelve teams that
- 11:25Speaker 7: make it. It's going to expand here. We have to
- 11:28Speaker 7: be one of those at LSU. No substitute. We have
- 11:31Speaker 7: to be talked about on ESPA and every channel were
- 11:34Speaker 7: talking about LSU football. That is the way this big
- 11:37Speaker 7: building here has to be successful. If we're going to
- 11:41Speaker 7: be successful as athletic department, it's the measuring state that.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We have here.
- 11:45Speaker 7: I have formed a committee or that committee would be
- 11:47Speaker 7: Scott Ballot, Chairman of the Board, John Carmusch Chairman of Athletics,
- 11:52Speaker 7: Ben Bordelon. As you know, Ben Bolin is a former
- 11:54Speaker 7: football player here Bolinger Shipping CEO, e J Kuiper, e
- 12:01Speaker 7: J Kiper ceo of Oshner. I'm not sorry, I'm so
- 12:04Speaker 7: so sorry, Later.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Of the Lake.
- 12:06Speaker 7: He would be on the committee, and there'll be another
- 12:08Speaker 7: myself and there will be another member of the committee,
- 12:11Speaker 7: uh that we are talking to right now this time.
- 12:14Speaker 7: Those are the people that can be responsible for helping
- 12:16Speaker 7: us find the next great football coach at r SU.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Open up for any questions. This is ah to start with.
- 12:26Speaker 10: Scott Ballard Wilson was entered the advocate in the front,
- 12:30Speaker 10: sir right here. How exactly was it decided that Scott
- 12:34Speaker 10: would would and lsc.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Would part ways?
- 12:37Speaker 10: Did his board and him have autonomy to make that
- 12:39Speaker 10: decision or was the governor involved in that final say?
- 12:44Speaker 9: John, the governor was not involved.
- 12:48Speaker 2: The governor.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Is worried about the state of Louisiana. His concern had
- 12:55Speaker 6: to do with the state contract. L SU Board of
- 12:59Speaker 6: Supervisor and mister Woodward decided jointly to point part ways.
- 13:10Speaker 11: Michael Cobble w b Z TV invetors, John, you can
- 13:13Speaker 11: take this if you want, or Scott, but representing the board,
- 13:16Speaker 11: why did you all deem it necessary to part ways?
- 13:18Speaker 11: Version just talked about six championships, were four months removed
- 13:21Speaker 11: from a baseball national championship. Those things sound like success
- 13:25Speaker 11: to the common person. So why was there this mutual
- 13:28Speaker 11: agreement to part it was?
- 13:30Speaker 6: It was a It was a joint decision where we
- 13:34Speaker 6: the board and and mister Wooward had discussions and it
- 13:38Speaker 6: was a joint decision.
- 13:39Speaker 9: Thought it was the best for both parties.
- 13:44Speaker 12: Yeah, I guess to see either for Scott or for
- 13:46Speaker 12: John will will l s U buy out the remainder
- 13:49Speaker 12: of Scott Woodard's contract.
- 13:52Speaker 2: I'm sorry, what can you repeat that?
- 13:54Speaker 12: I didn't know an I'm sorry, Matt Moscona from ESPN diverge,
- 13:58Speaker 12: will l s U or the board buy out the
- 14:00Speaker 12: remainder of Scott Woodward's contract.
- 14:02Speaker 6: It's my understanding they're working on that right now, and
- 14:05Speaker 6: I'm sure when it's done it it'll be public.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Right Yeah.
- 14:10Speaker 13: Brevmont Tell the Associated Press, I had a similar question.
- 14:13Speaker 13: I was wondering, Yeah, it looks like based on its
- 14:15Speaker 13: contract he's owed at least five million or so on
- 14:18Speaker 13: based salary, nevermind incentives. And I was also wondering what
- 14:22Speaker 13: revenue stream would be.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Are you are you eyeing to pay that to pay
- 14:27Speaker 2: that buyer.
- 14:28Speaker 8: Revenue stream, as I've said before, will be it is
- 14:32Speaker 8: generated from the athletic department. Uh, it's self generated funds
- 14:40Speaker 8: and or private donations.
- 14:42Speaker 9: That's where it comes from.
- 14:44Speaker 8: Does not come from state dollars that that that are
- 14:48Speaker 8: allocated towards other things like education, So it'll come from
- 14:51Speaker 8: self generated athletic funds and or private donations.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Good morning, Kyra Nevou with w BO in New Orleans.
- 15:03Speaker 2: My question, Miss Osbury for you.
- 15:05Speaker 4: Obviously you're at the enter right now, but are you
- 15:07Speaker 4: seeking to fulfill this position full time.
- 15:10Speaker 7: At this time? That's not a concern right now, I'm concerned.
- 15:13Speaker 7: It's trying to get the best football coach we have
- 15:14Speaker 7: here and make sure this department is stable.
- 15:17Speaker 2: That's my job. I'm not looking to do anything.
- 15:20Speaker 7: Future from that, but right now it's just stabilize and department,
- 15:24Speaker 7: making sure the coaches and the executive team is okay
- 15:27Speaker 7: when everything they do and they're getting out of support
- 15:29Speaker 7: and hiring a football coach.
- 15:34Speaker 10: Question about the contracts, Jeff Landrys made it very clear
- 15:37Speaker 10: that he would like to see more of an incentive
- 15:39Speaker 10: based contract to avoid that large biot that Brian Kelly
- 15:42Speaker 10: has been owed. How do you plan to do that
- 15:45Speaker 10: within this search and do you worry that that will
- 15:47Speaker 10: deter any candidates.
- 15:50Speaker 7: I've spoken to the board members on side of me
- 15:52Speaker 7: right here and other board members, and our job I
- 15:54Speaker 7: was total to get the best football coach there is.
- 15:56Speaker 2: You don't worry about that at all.
- 15:58Speaker 7: So my thing is we're gonna go there together as
- 16:00Speaker 7: a team and we get the best contract, get the
- 16:03Speaker 7: best coach we have, and whatever it takes to get
- 16:05Speaker 7: that person here, we will.
- 16:06Speaker 11: Do verge familiar just again timeline for that and the
- 16:12Speaker 11: committee that you said you assembled five people, do you
- 16:14Speaker 11: feel like that's the right size. Should there be more
- 16:17Speaker 11: people involved?
- 16:17Speaker 7: Do you think we're looking at it one more person?
- 16:19Speaker 7: The process has started, processes started since we made the
- 16:22Speaker 7: decision on Sunday, and there's no really timeline. We've been
- 16:25Speaker 7: looking at a lot of people, five exact lists, but
- 16:29Speaker 7: we know what we want here, we know what we
- 16:30Speaker 7: expect here, and we don't have the best coach here
- 16:33Speaker 7: in Tiger sad.
- 16:36Speaker 2: For Scott or John?
- 16:37Speaker 12: Is there a timeline for naming a full time athletic director?
- 16:42Speaker 12: And Verge, if you want to follow up, you've been
- 16:44Speaker 12: a candidate in the past.
- 16:46Speaker 2: What would change the time if you weren't a candidate?
- 16:48Speaker 9: Discussion, I'll speak to every one.
- 16:53Speaker 8: There is not a timeline set for that. The first thing,
- 16:57Speaker 8: like Verge said, the full count tration is to find
- 17:03Speaker 8: a coach, find the best coach period. That process has
- 17:06Speaker 8: already started, as Verge said, with the team the athletic department,
- 17:11Speaker 8: so truly is not something we're even going to address
- 17:15Speaker 8: until we get that done.
- 17:20Speaker 11: Scott, let's stay with you if you don't mind, just
- 17:22Speaker 11: does the coaching candidate, athletic director or whatever. Do these
- 17:25Speaker 11: jobs have to have Louisiana ties to them, And if so,
- 17:28Speaker 11: why do you feel that way.
- 17:32Speaker 8: Verg's license is to go find the best coach. I
- 17:36Speaker 8: think people in Louisiana love to have Louisiana people, and
- 17:40Speaker 8: I'm no different. I was born here, and God will
- 17:43Speaker 8: and I'll die here. But that is not a litmus
- 17:48Speaker 8: per se. But if Verge can go find one that
- 17:51Speaker 8: has Louisiana ties, then awesome, But that is not a
- 17:54Speaker 8: litmus for them.
- 17:58Speaker 13: Hey, there, Brett Mark Tellegan with AP, I just I
- 18:01Speaker 13: want to give you the opportunity because I think a
- 18:02Speaker 13: lot of the LSU fan base, and you know, people
- 18:06Speaker 13: following this are somewhat confused as about the extent to
- 18:10Speaker 13: which performance based considerations led to Scott's departure. Is there
- 18:16Speaker 13: anything specific that you'd want to address in that regard.
- 18:25Speaker 8: I'm not sure I understand the question. But but if
- 18:28Speaker 8: the performance of Scott and I mean like like, like
- 18:33Speaker 8: John said, it was a mutual agreement after conversations and
- 18:37Speaker 8: and with all the things that come into that energy
- 18:40Speaker 8: and and and and family and what you're doing, and
- 18:44Speaker 8: you know, nothing's off the table of why Scott and
- 18:48Speaker 8: and and l s U had a mutual agreement that
- 18:51Speaker 8: after those conversations that that they mutually agreed that that
- 18:57Speaker 8: it was a good idea. Scott is a great human being,
- 19:00Speaker 8: Scott is a good baton Rouge, Lsu Tiger. It had
- 19:05Speaker 8: nothing to do with any of that. It had everything
- 19:09Speaker 8: to do with the path of both conversations, and they
- 19:13Speaker 8: mutually agreed that it was time. It wasn't an Lsu thing,
- 19:16Speaker 8: It wasn't a Scott thing.
- 19:18Speaker 14: So the word will be hiring a new president on Tuesday,
- 19:24Speaker 14: can you speak to the extent he will be involved
- 19:27Speaker 14: in the search for either the head coach or the
- 19:29Speaker 14: permanent athletic director.
- 19:33Speaker 9: Was that to me?
- 19:34Speaker 14: What'd you say, morning, Scott? Yes, any of y'all can
- 19:38Speaker 14: answer that, y'all will be hiring a new president on Tuesday.
- 19:42Speaker 14: To what extent will he be involved in the search
- 19:44Speaker 14: for the head coach or the permanent athletic director.
- 19:50Speaker 8: The new president will be announced on Tuesday, and he
- 19:54Speaker 8: or she or he we have the three candidates, Well,
- 19:58Speaker 8: we'll be We're not going down for that. Verge is
- 20:02Speaker 8: going to move forward and knows what he needs to do.
- 20:05Speaker 8: But depending on how that works out and when the
- 20:07Speaker 8: new president starts, but the new president will absolutely have
- 20:11Speaker 8: input and and hopefully hit the hit the ground running.
- 20:15Speaker 8: But depending on you know, what the choice is. We've
- 20:19Speaker 8: got to also respect that they've got to unwind some
- 20:21Speaker 8: stuff as well.
- 20:23Speaker 2: For a few more questions for RGE.
- 20:25Speaker 11: If you have questions for Herd, you got we have morenutes. Okay,
- 20:29Speaker 11: I'm sorry, this one's for John.
- 20:30Speaker 2: John.
- 20:30Speaker 11: Just given the governor's speaking points about the contract and
- 20:35Speaker 11: the legal ease of the of the contract for Brian
- 20:39Speaker 11: going forward, is it a point of emphasis to remove
- 20:43Speaker 11: L s U as the libel party for these contracts?
- 20:46Speaker 11: It would be a departure from the way they've been
- 20:47Speaker 11: written in the past. Is that something that kind of
- 20:50Speaker 11: you guys have marching orders to make sure isn't acted
- 20:52Speaker 11: in these next deals.
- 20:54Speaker 6: Well, let me make it clear the governor had a
- 20:57Speaker 6: right to be concerned, and we're working towards UH solutions.
- 21:05Speaker 6: Any everything's on the table. But let me make it
- 21:08Speaker 6: clear the state has never and the taxpayers have never
- 21:11Speaker 6: paid for a coach and never will so.
- 21:19Speaker 2: U mappen easy at w B.
- 21:21Speaker 15: Just given the timing of Scott's departure, with the firing
- 21:25Speaker 15: of Brian Kelly, for new candidates being considered for the
- 21:29Speaker 15: coaching position. Could the lapse and not having a president
- 21:33Speaker 15: name just yet now verge being in the spot you're
- 21:36Speaker 15: in now, could that deter candidates away? And is that
- 21:38Speaker 15: why the timing of all this has happened to keep
- 21:41Speaker 15: candidates considering l s U as a as a destination.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Could you ask the question through me? Yeah, uh, well,
- 21:50Speaker 7: let's shoe Uh my phone is still ringing. Before you know,
- 21:55Speaker 7: this has happened a lot of a lot of people
- 21:59Speaker 7: kind of still I want to come to l SG.
- 22:02Speaker 2: It's one of the best jobs in the country.
- 22:03Speaker 7: It is the best job in the country at this time,
- 22:06Speaker 7: and we're gonna find the right person and I don't
- 22:09Speaker 7: see any problems getting the right person to being ahead
- 22:11Speaker 7: coache lsh.
- 22:13Speaker 8: Thank you guys.
- 22:14Speaker 2: All right, right, congratulations.
- 22:16Speaker 4: Less welcome back in to OTB. That was the LSU
- 22:28Speaker 4: press conference. There, board of supervisors, very Jobsbury now the
- 22:34Speaker 4: interim athletic director. And there'll a lot to get to
- 22:37Speaker 4: so unpackt there a lot of impact writing down some
- 22:40Speaker 4: notes and taking a look at uh you know what
- 22:43Speaker 4: that was and some of the questions that were asked.
- 22:45Speaker 4: And so we'll take a break. We'll try to play
- 22:47Speaker 4: catch up. Obviously, it's a twenty three minute opening segment
- 22:50Speaker 4: because the Tatane Laundry did a great job of recognizing
- 22:53Speaker 4: that getting that on the air. So we appreciate y'all
- 22:55Speaker 4: having that for us. So we'll break it all down
- 22:58Speaker 4: when we come back here. It is OTB live from Rouses,
- 23:01Speaker 4: off the bench, all right, it is always a great
- 23:08Speaker 4: time beer. First, come hang out with us. Right here
- 23:15Speaker 4: behind us, you can pick up some ice cold do
- 23:17Speaker 4: seqies from Rouses, kick your feet up, enjoy the great weather,
- 23:22Speaker 4: go outside, throw the ball around. This weekend, no tigers
- 23:26Speaker 4: are playing, but doesn't mean you can't enjoy a ice.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Cold do sekis.
- 23:31Speaker 4: It's always a great time, the perfect time, the best
- 23:33Speaker 4: time to go for dose.
- 23:35Speaker 2: That's all right, go for dose. It's as trigger treating night.
- 23:38Speaker 5: So if you're got some kiddo's, got some rugg rats
- 23:40Speaker 5: you're pushing around the neighborhood, maybe get a little stroller.
- 23:42Speaker 5: Well right underneath that stroller is a perfect place to
- 23:44Speaker 5: put a little ice chest full of dough sekis beer.
- 23:47Speaker 5: Have a couple, do it responsibly. If you're gonna do it,
- 23:50Speaker 5: if you're gonna delete some beers, Happy Halloween, make sure
- 23:53Speaker 5: you go to a store and get your do saqis
- 23:55Speaker 5: that delicious cold Mexican longer go for dose.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Locked in on LSU Football twenty four to seven, you're
- 24:22Speaker 1: listening to Off the Bench Caesar.
- 24:27Speaker 4: All right and welcome back in with TV here live
- 24:31Speaker 4: from rals Is.
- 24:33Speaker 2: I'm not sweating your sweating.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Yeah, we apologize a little bit because we're gonna have to
- 24:36Speaker 4: play some catch up here on the clock obviously with
- 24:40Speaker 4: you know, twenty five minute first segment, because look had
- 24:42Speaker 4: carried that obviously, that was very very important and the
- 24:45Speaker 4: information that we got before we dive into it. I
- 24:48Speaker 4: want to remind you about LSU Snacks, the officially licensed
- 24:51Speaker 4: snacks of the Tigers. Everybody supports LSU athletes, so you

- 25:07Speaker 4: LSU Snacks now at Rouse's or order them online at
- 25:11Speaker 4: LSU snacks dot com. LSU Snacks, where every bite supports
- 25:14Speaker 4: LSU Go Tigers all right, Matthew Clayton Flynn Okay, hoof.
- 25:19Speaker 5: I'm out of breath. I don't know about y'all. A
- 25:21Speaker 5: lot to unpack from that. From that press conference, I
- 25:24Speaker 5: think the major news that everybody was needing to know,
- 25:29Speaker 5: wanting to know that, we got the answer at there.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, the associate athletic.
- 25:34Speaker 5: The interim athletic director, now Verge Osberry is going to
- 25:37Speaker 5: have complete control of the job search and have the
- 25:41Speaker 5: authority to make a new higher.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Yeah. So there's an answer right there. We've been talking.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Does that pretty much say that Verge is the leading
- 25:50Speaker 4: candidate to be the athletic director, Like it does to
- 25:52Speaker 4: me because so many times the athletic director is tied
- 25:57Speaker 4: to the head coach, the head coach of the ad. Right,
- 25:59Speaker 4: it's all you know when when you get a new
- 26:02Speaker 4: AD in the same coach, it's always like, yeah, it
- 26:05Speaker 4: was never really his guy, and it's like you got
- 26:07Speaker 4: to have your guy. It's like, well that Verge is
- 26:10Speaker 4: making the hire. That tells me right now. And just
- 26:14Speaker 4: by listening to that press conference in the way they
- 26:17Speaker 4: talked about Verge, he's, without questioning, the leader in the
- 26:20Speaker 4: clubhouse to be the athletic director.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Yeah, it's one of those cool questions because, uh, there's
- 26:26Speaker 5: a quote here there's no timeline for hiring a new
- 26:30Speaker 5: full time athletic director, So there's no timeline for that.
- 26:33Speaker 5: So there's certainly they have nothing in their aspirations that's
- 26:37Speaker 5: going to say we need to hire an ad full
- 26:40Speaker 5: time ad first for him to pick his own head coach.
- 26:45Speaker 5: So if it ends up being somebody outside of Verge,
- 26:48Speaker 5: the coach is already going to be there.
- 26:49Speaker 2: He won't be tied to that new head coach.
- 26:52Speaker 5: And how appealing is that going to be to a
- 26:55Speaker 5: head coach that is wanting to become the new head coach?
- 26:58Speaker 5: Lsu If you're going to say all right, yeah, we're
- 27:00Speaker 5: gonna hire you, but in a month there's going to
- 27:02Speaker 5: be a new AD, so you're not going to be
- 27:04Speaker 5: his guy. I don't think that's a great situation. So
- 27:08Speaker 5: if they better be getting the language out there saying
- 27:11Speaker 5: Verge is going to be the dude if he's hiring you,
- 27:14Speaker 5: if he's making.
- 27:15Speaker 2: A movie, he's hiring you. You need that coach needs
- 27:17Speaker 2: to know.
- 27:18Speaker 5: The coach is going to need want to know that
- 27:20Speaker 5: in Stone. Yeah, whether you put it out there, coach
- 27:23Speaker 5: It doesn't matter.
- 27:24Speaker 4: It doesn't matter the level of experience they have, the
- 27:26Speaker 4: resume that they have.
- 27:28Speaker 2: They are one. They are going to want to.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Know who is my bass, who is my direct contact,
- 27:32Speaker 4: Who is the leader of the athletic programs?
- 27:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean for the comparison, the NFL comparison. It's
- 27:38Speaker 5: like a head coach knows he's got a short leash
- 27:41Speaker 5: if they bring in a new GM and he's the
- 27:42Speaker 5: head coach, right because that's not.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Not his guy.
- 27:45Speaker 5: So that was the big news right from the jump,
- 27:47Speaker 5: that verge. He's got control of the job search. They
- 27:51Speaker 5: have tasked them. Doesn't matter if the guys from Louise,
- 27:53Speaker 5: and it doesn't matter what the ties are. He is
- 27:55Speaker 5: tasked with finding the best coach in football and that's
- 27:59Speaker 5: it ask and he has a full authority in power
- 28:02Speaker 5: to make that decision.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Look, that's what we heard.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Oh hey Richard Dixon enjoying breakfast. Hey little breakfast bar
- 28:11Speaker 4: dig Dixon. Don't think we won't put you to work here, bud,
- 28:14Speaker 4: So enjoy that breakfast before we put you to work.
- 28:18Speaker 5: The next big news that I saw is there is
- 28:23Speaker 5: going to be a committee that's going to have input.
- 28:26Speaker 5: I'm assuming based on the words that they just said.
- 28:28Speaker 5: Verge is going to have the final stamp of approval
- 28:30Speaker 5: right of course as the athletic director. But the committee,
- 28:33Speaker 5: and this committee is formulated of John Carmush, who's I
- 28:38Speaker 5: think the Board of Supervisors Athletic Committee's chair, who is
- 28:41Speaker 5: the senior partner of a law firm, Ben Borderline, former
- 28:44Speaker 5: player of course, Bolinger Shipyards done a lot of great things,
- 28:48Speaker 5: Scott Ballard who we just saw, who is the head
- 28:51Speaker 5: of the.
- 28:53Speaker 9: E. J.
- 28:53Speaker 5: Kuiper, who is the CEO of OLOL, and Verge.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and then they said one more person.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Man, my phone had he said, he said, we're already
- 29:04Speaker 4: in talks with that person. My phone hasn't ring yet.
- 29:07Speaker 4: So I was trying hard to get on that committee.
- 29:09Speaker 4: I'm show I was. I was really wanting to be.
- 29:12Speaker 4: I wanted I wanted somebody that's currently tied into college
- 29:19Speaker 4: football nationally, and I'm very fortunate that I get that
- 29:22Speaker 4: opportunity on my other show.
- 29:24Speaker 2: And I have every every coach.
- 29:26Speaker 4: That is listed, I've had in person interviews, conversations with them,
- 29:31Speaker 4: and I don't know, I just I want somebody that's
- 29:34Speaker 4: kind of tied into maybe some some different areas of
- 29:39Speaker 4: the country as well.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, and I don't want to like, so I was
- 29:43Speaker 2: real when I said I don't want to. I don't.
- 29:45Speaker 5: I don't want to put foot and mouth here, okay,
- 29:47Speaker 5: because we do that every day.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Are people that are in charge of this committee?
- 29:58Speaker 5: Of the names on this list, who on here makes
- 30:05Speaker 5: you feel good that they know football coaching? I'm very
- 30:11Speaker 5: successful obviously. CEO of a hospital, great? Does he know
- 30:14Speaker 5: football coaches?
- 30:15Speaker 6: Right?
- 30:15Speaker 2: No idea, Scott Ballad, You're you're the board of supervisor?
- 30:17Speaker 2: Are great?
- 30:18Speaker 5: I know you got your finger on the pulse of
- 30:19Speaker 5: Louisiana and politics and all that stuff. Do you know
- 30:22Speaker 5: football nationally?
- 30:24Speaker 2: Right?
- 30:24Speaker 5: At a at an intimate level, do you know how
- 30:27Speaker 5: to look at a man's eye for the football aspect
- 30:29Speaker 5: of things?
- 30:29Speaker 2: What do you? Yeah?
- 30:30Speaker 4: When when he comes in and hey, here's my coordinators,
- 30:32Speaker 4: here's my scheme, here's my plan, here's how I plan
- 30:35Speaker 4: to recruit.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I like this John Carmush, guy, I sure he
- 30:39Speaker 5: does great things.
- 30:41Speaker 2: He's a senior partner in law firm.
- 30:42Speaker 5: Same question now, virgin Ben Borderline, Yeah, okay, I got it.
- 30:47Speaker 2: I don't know me. Who's this?
- 30:48Speaker 5: Who's this last person? I don't know they inviting Saban
- 30:51Speaker 5: to be on the board. I have no idea. Is
- 30:53Speaker 5: that going to be the football pert? I have no idea.
- 30:56Speaker 5: I feel good that Verge is there. Yeah, but I
- 30:59Speaker 5: don't know what kind of say all these other folks
- 31:02Speaker 5: are going to have in a It's a very valid
- 31:04Speaker 5: question coaching football coaching job search. You want football people
- 31:09Speaker 5: that know football coaches and coaching to make those decisions.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah, that's what we talked about it. Right after we
- 31:14Speaker 4: took a break, I said, wait a minute, hold up,
- 31:16Speaker 4: hold on, we're a football guy. And again I'm not
- 31:19Speaker 4: saying that that's the only voice, but you want a
- 31:22Speaker 4: football voice on there. You want somebody that you know
- 31:26Speaker 4: understands coaching and been around coaching and understands the dynamics
- 31:29Speaker 4: of a team and understands the dynamics of all the
- 31:32Speaker 4: things that have to come together to make a great
- 31:34Speaker 4: football team. And when he's talking scheme, be it an
- 31:37Speaker 4: offense or a defensive coach, Hey we're going to run
- 31:39Speaker 4: you know this offense, or hey we're you know, this
- 31:42Speaker 4: is our defensive philosophy. Here's where we like to live.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Here's what I'm thinking about hiring from my assistant coach
- 31:47Speaker 4: is here's what this guy can do in recruiting for.
- 31:50Speaker 5: Us, And don't get a twisted like I know these
- 31:52Speaker 5: guys are way smarter.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Way more better, smarter and smarter and a lot of things,
- 31:57Speaker 4: but not smarter in football. Yeah, so it's like you
- 32:02Speaker 4: have to get an amalgamation of all these things. Like
- 32:06Speaker 4: that's that's why you have a committee because there's something.
- 32:08Speaker 4: There's a pillar in every single thing, and that's how
- 32:11Speaker 4: you stabilize it because if you don't have one pillar
- 32:14Speaker 4: for this, then the building.
- 32:15Speaker 2: Is going to fall.
- 32:16Speaker 4: But if you have it for everything, and Verge is
- 32:18Speaker 4: going to be a large portion of that. Verge does
- 32:20Speaker 4: no football at a national level. I have many conversations
- 32:23Speaker 4: with me.
- 32:23Speaker 5: A lot of comfortability for sure, the rest of the
- 32:26Speaker 5: committee and maybe not what Ben.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Not talking about. Ben just from the ive been played football,
- 32:32Speaker 2: been knows football right, but around got it. We're talking
- 32:37Speaker 2: about like having.
- 32:40Speaker 4: An idea of the current landscape of college football and
- 32:44Speaker 4: again like knowing these coaches and understanding these coaches and
- 32:47Speaker 4: knowing when they're talking, knowing if it's real for its
- 32:50Speaker 4: bull stuff.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I'm sweating now, I know. But let's just say this
- 32:57Speaker 2: before we do go.
- 32:58Speaker 5: We are extremely happy for Verde that he has this
- 33:01Speaker 5: opportunity to make a name for himself because he's been
- 33:03Speaker 5: he loves l He's just like Frank Wilson being the
- 33:06Speaker 5: inner coaching.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Birds was over there yesterday and Birds wasn't over there.
- 33:11Speaker 2: First thing.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Bird said, I am not here as an administrator right now.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I am here as.
- 33:15Speaker 4: A former LSU Tiger to talk to the current LSU Tigers.
- 33:19Speaker 4: That's right, because that's how much he loves this place
- 33:21Speaker 4: and cares for this place.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Happy for him, no question about it.
- 33:25Speaker 4: Like Verge being there, I am incredibly he has paid
- 33:28Speaker 4: his dues. We're just talking about like the totality of
- 33:31Speaker 4: all the people that are coming together to make this decision.
- 33:34Speaker 2: All right, I know we are long for a break.
- 33:36Speaker 2: We'll take it now.
- 33:37Speaker 4: More O TV off the bench, all right. Go to

- 35:54Speaker 2: and egg rolls right behind us. That we do, Derek,
- 35:57Speaker 2: that we do. My name is Matt. Yeah, but that
- 36:00Speaker 2: doesn't The movie line's not mad, it's Derek step brothers.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Sure right you are, Dale's gotta Yeah, So why wouldn't
- 36:10Speaker 2: you just go with it? You know the line football?
- 36:14Speaker 2: Huh god? So what else you got there in those notes?
- 36:20Speaker 5: But I got a lot of stuff in the notes
- 36:21Speaker 5: trying to figure out what to kind of go to next.
- 36:24Speaker 5: It did sound like from some of the questioning that
- 36:26Speaker 5: there was real no plan at least that they were
- 36:29Speaker 5: prepared to let the public know about what.
- 36:32Speaker 2: The plan was for the buyout. Oh yeah, it's very vague.
- 36:37Speaker 2: It was very vague. Yeah. So a lot of this like,
- 36:39Speaker 2: you know, you're not going to hire it.
- 36:41Speaker 5: I'm not going to announce a full time ad if
- 36:43Speaker 5: were hiring a coach, you don't really have a plan
- 36:45Speaker 5: for the buyout. A lot of this kind of feels
- 36:47Speaker 5: like it's, uh, fire ready aim type situation.
- 36:53Speaker 2: But maybe not, we'll see.
- 36:55Speaker 5: I just found that kind of interesting that, you know,
- 36:57Speaker 5: it's the lot they knew if they knew what the
- 37:01Speaker 5: bio is, because.
- 37:04Speaker 2: It's going to come out, right, Deli's going to get it.
- 37:07Speaker 2: It's going to come out. So that tells me there
- 37:11Speaker 2: is no plan. That's just but I eat him. Maybe
- 37:14Speaker 2: they're not.
- 37:14Speaker 5: Stressed about it because they know it's going to get
- 37:15Speaker 5: figured out. Maybe it's one of those.
- 37:16Speaker 4: Types that you can again clock because twenty five minute
- 37:19Speaker 4: press conference. But I'll say this before we step away
- 37:21Speaker 4: and try to play catch up. Whatever the list of
- 37:25Speaker 4: coaching candidates is, I just hope that whoever's on the
- 37:30Speaker 4: committee realizes that it's different than it's ever been before.
- 37:35Speaker 2: The needs of your head coach are different, the understanding
- 37:38Speaker 2: of your head coach is different.
- 37:41Speaker 4: The way that it was always done before does not
- 37:44Speaker 4: work anymore, at least to the level that you want
- 37:48Speaker 4: it to.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Even coach Saban at the very end, right, it was
- 37:52Speaker 4: a little bit different for him. That's why he got out.
- 37:54Speaker 2: He didn't like it.
- 37:55Speaker 4: He wasn't going to be as successful Dabo Sweeney. He
- 37:59Speaker 4: might have won the ACC last year, but it wasn't
- 38:02Speaker 4: because they were the best team. Like they found a way,
- 38:05Speaker 4: they got hot and they won the last game and
- 38:09Speaker 4: it was I was trying not to say that, but yea,
- 38:12Speaker 4: it was the ACC. Look at where they're at this
- 38:14Speaker 4: year because Dabo's stuck in his ways and doesn't want
- 38:17Speaker 4: to change with college football. Look at Brian Kelly at
- 38:19Speaker 4: Lshue look at James Franklin at Penn State, all right,
- 38:23Speaker 4: not saying you can't win games, but you can't win trophies.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Now you go to who's dominating right now and you
- 38:31Speaker 2: kind of look at it and you're.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Like, oh, well, it's either a coach that did it
- 38:35Speaker 4: the old way and said I'll do whatever it takes to.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Catch up with the.
- 38:39Speaker 4: Times and change my ways. Still have my identity, but
- 38:42Speaker 4: I'll change my ways enough. Kurt Signetti is a guy
- 38:47Speaker 4: that's doing it in the way that you need to.
- 38:49Speaker 4: Ryan Day kind of changed some things.
- 38:50Speaker 2: He was doing. He's now in that. Mike Elko does that,
- 38:54Speaker 2: Dan Lanning does that. Kirby change some of the things
- 38:56Speaker 2: he was doing.
- 38:57Speaker 4: Lane certainly has found a way to be successful in
- 39:01Speaker 4: this current time. Brent Key, Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame,
- 39:05Speaker 4: and we can continue to go down the list, Josh
- 39:08Speaker 4: Hipel at Tennessee. The game's different right now, and whoever's
- 39:13Speaker 4: on the board committee, whatever, whatever.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I hope they realize that.
- 39:16Speaker 4: I hope they realized that it's no longer the coach
- 39:19Speaker 4: that ten years ago would have been the home run.
- 39:21Speaker 4: Five years ago that would have been the home run. Okay,
- 39:25Speaker 4: there's multiple ways to be successful, but it starts with
- 39:31Speaker 4: the head coach and a head coach that understands where
- 39:33Speaker 4: we're currently at. And when I say where, I mean
- 39:36Speaker 4: college football, the way it's moving forward.
- 39:39Speaker 2: And it's a different time.
- 39:41Speaker 4: I mean it's Verge look sees Marcus Freeman all the time.
- 39:44Speaker 4: Birge has a son that plays for Notre Dame, so
- 39:47Speaker 4: Verge sees the way Marcus Freeman goes about his business
- 39:51Speaker 4: on a weekly basis.
- 39:56Speaker 5: Verge has been around a long time and he gets it.
- 40:00Speaker 5: He understands it, and hopefully he understands kind of what
- 40:04Speaker 5: needs to be next and just kind of like kind
- 40:06Speaker 5: of what you said, And I think what you're saying
- 40:07Speaker 5: right now is what a lot of people are feeling.
- 40:09Speaker 5: And I'm hoping that's what this committee let's put together
- 40:13Speaker 5: is also feeling now.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Feelings aside.
- 40:16Speaker 5: Got to be able to go find that person and
- 40:18Speaker 5: decipher that person from a long list of people you're
- 40:21Speaker 5: gonna get thrown a lot of different names out.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Can you go through there?
- 40:24Speaker 5: Can you do your own recruiting on our analysis of
- 40:28Speaker 5: a coach and figure that out? Because I think we're
- 40:30Speaker 5: all feeling and saying and doing the same thing. We
- 40:34Speaker 5: all feel the same way about what needs to be done.
- 40:36Speaker 5: Now you just got to go in and find that
- 40:39Speaker 5: person and have the right people to negotiate that contract.
- 40:42Speaker 4: All right, we'll play catch up. We'll take a break.

- 42:19Speaker 2: All Right, welcome back in.
- 42:20Speaker 4: It is OTB here live from Rous's on Burbank and Lee.
- 42:24Speaker 4: One of the things we haven't talked about yet. So
- 42:27Speaker 4: last night LSU women's basketball had an exhibition game and
- 42:31Speaker 4: coach Kim Milky was not at the press conference, and
- 42:35Speaker 4: you know.
- 42:35Speaker 2: They didn't really try to hide it. Said she's not
- 42:37Speaker 2: here because.
- 42:37Speaker 4: She's heartbroken that Scott Woobard was let go as the
- 42:40Speaker 4: athletic director.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah that's a big statement. Yeah.
- 42:45Speaker 4: To not show up, yeah, yeah, to not show up
- 42:46Speaker 4: for sure, And obviously, you know Kim Moulkee National Championship
- 42:50Speaker 4: winning head coach and somebody Scott brought in here, and
- 42:54Speaker 4: you can say what you want, like she didn't go
- 42:56Speaker 4: to LSU. Everybody's like, oh, that was an easy choice.
- 42:58Speaker 4: She didn't go to LSU, to Louisian Tech. She's not
- 43:01Speaker 4: from Baton Rouge. She's from Louisiana for sure. Yeah, and
- 43:04Speaker 4: she had a pretty successful thing.
- 43:07Speaker 2: She was an institution there.
- 43:08Speaker 5: Like trying to pull her away took some doing, and
- 43:13Speaker 5: it took some skill, and it took a relationship there
- 43:16Speaker 5: that I'm sure they obviously they had a wonderful relationship.
- 43:21Speaker 5: If she's not doing a press conference after an exhibition
- 43:23Speaker 5: because because of saying she was heartbroken.
- 43:27Speaker 2: So, I mean, there's a lot, man, It's it's a lot.
- 43:30Speaker 5: So when you start talking about this, it's easy to
- 43:32Speaker 5: talk about this from a performance pay stampoint, it's easy
- 43:35Speaker 5: to talk about this from a fan standpoint of just
- 43:37Speaker 5: saying we don't have the best, want the best, want
- 43:39Speaker 5: the best, which is great, and we should have the best.
- 43:41Speaker 2: They will always have to keep.
- 43:42Speaker 5: In mind that these are actual human beings that we're
- 43:45Speaker 5: talking about. These are human beings, families, their lives, they
- 43:48Speaker 5: uproot there, and of course everybody's compensated well for it.
- 43:51Speaker 5: So we're not asking anyone to feel sorry for anybody, certainly,
- 43:54Speaker 5: but just keep in mind that there's a human element
- 43:56Speaker 5: to all of these decisions. And like I said yesterday,
- 44:00Speaker 5: we went over there, Jake and I did yesterday at
- 44:02Speaker 5: their LSU's working at the football facility.
- 44:04Speaker 2: There is a group of great people over there, for sure.
- 44:07Speaker 5: As crazy as all this other stuff sounds, that is
- 44:10Speaker 5: probably more stable than it has been in a long time.
- 44:12Speaker 2: That that building over there, that's that's actually incredibly fair
- 44:16Speaker 2: because I've been in there. What we talk about.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Ye yeah, they got to finish out this season and
- 44:21Speaker 5: that thing is more stable than it has been and
- 44:24Speaker 5: it's awesome and they are galvanizing that energy we felt
- 44:26Speaker 5: yesterday was great, but it was a building full of
- 44:31Speaker 5: people that have uncertain futures. There's a building full of people,
- 44:34Speaker 5: like I said yesterday, that don't know where their kids
- 44:36Speaker 5: are going to be going to school in January. Maybe
- 44:40Speaker 5: it's here, maybe it's not. But that's that's what that's
- 44:42Speaker 5: Everybody signs up for it. Again, I don't want to
- 44:44Speaker 5: feel sorry for anybody, but that's just what it is
- 44:48Speaker 5: there's a human element to all of this, and I
- 44:49Speaker 5: think we all just it's just wise for us all
- 44:51Speaker 5: to kind of step back, take a deep breath, and
- 44:54Speaker 5: just realize that, just remember that there is there's human
- 44:58Speaker 5: beings involved here.
- 44:59Speaker 4: Yeah, and i'd like to tell you that it doesn't
- 45:04Speaker 4: look messy right now. I think i'd be lying to you.
- 45:07Speaker 2: I think it does the lot.
- 45:09Speaker 4: There's a lot going on at the same time, and
- 45:12Speaker 4: everything's in fast forward right now, and there's just not
- 45:16Speaker 4: been a situation that I can.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Remember that's ever played out like this.
- 45:20Speaker 4: And I know it's unique circumstances with having new leadership
- 45:23Speaker 4: right now, but it does feel like a spiral right now.
- 45:28Speaker 4: And you've got to find a way to shore some
- 45:30Speaker 4: of these things up and create a structure and create
- 45:34Speaker 4: some foundation because right now, like you feel like you're about,
- 45:38Speaker 4: you know, on the verge of you know, collapsing here
- 45:42Speaker 4: if you.
- 45:42Speaker 2: Don't kind of get some stabilization to it.
- 45:44Speaker 5: So, yeah, and change brings about it does uncertainty and
- 45:49Speaker 5: a little bit that craziness, But I can tell you
- 45:51Speaker 5: the waters are stable over there in the Football Ops building.
- 45:53Speaker 2: All right. Hour three.
