- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the almost famous podcast with our radio. Hi everybody,
- 0:05Speaker 1: this is Trista with the A F O G Podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 1: We are back. I'm so excited. I do have to
- 0:12Speaker 1: say though, that I am very sad because my co
- 0:15Speaker 1: host Bob Guinea is not here today. We are um
- 0:20Speaker 1: dividing and conquering in terms of the podcast where he
- 0:24Speaker 1: is in Karmel, and you guys can edit this out
- 0:26Speaker 1: if you need to. He's in Carmel interviewing Zach and
- 0:29Speaker 1: I am home and I am getting the chance to
- 0:32Speaker 1: interview Jesse. Jesse is our host with the most who
- 0:37Speaker 1: was our first Canadian Bachelor, and I'm really excited to
- 0:42Speaker 1: just chat with him. We have not talked since he
- 0:45Speaker 1: got his job, and or we have not talked since
- 0:51Speaker 1: he became the Bachelor host and the Bachelorette host and
- 0:54Speaker 1: the Bachelor Barrett Ice host. Pretty good gig if you
- 0:57Speaker 1: ask me, Um, I'm sure he is having a lot
- 1:00Speaker 1: of fun, but I want to talk to him all
- 1:02Speaker 1: about how he's liking it, his personal life and of
- 1:07Speaker 1: course this season of the Bachelor. And here we go.
- 1:14Speaker 1: It's good seeing you, by the way, Oh my gosh,
- 1:18Speaker 1: it's so good to see you. I'm so excited to chat.
- 1:22Speaker 1: We have not been able to chat since you know. Actually, okay,
- 1:26Speaker 1: please remind me because I'm a little bit older than you,
- 1:29Speaker 1: so please show me some grace because I have memory issues.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Have we met before we I think we have officially
- 1:36Speaker 1: met very very quickly once, uh somewhere with Ryan, but
- 1:40Speaker 1: we have never done this together in like a professional capacity. Yeah,
- 1:44Speaker 1: or had an extended conversation. I know I would have
- 1:46Speaker 1: remembered that, but um, yeah, if we said hi, I Apploian.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm so bad these days, Jesse, I don't remember my name.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Sometimes as we get older, we'll trust me. I think
- 1:59Speaker 1: I'm I'm always blaming football concussions on my failure, right,
- 2:05Speaker 1: so I have something to fall back on that way,
- 2:07Speaker 1: But I'm I'm I'll tell you man, it's crazy. I
- 2:10Speaker 1: was just thinking about this earlier. It is like, it's
- 2:13Speaker 1: amazing how many seasons have happened since you and I
- 2:17Speaker 1: were both on this thing, and how it's just changed.
- 2:20Speaker 1: It evaulved so much as crazy. It's you know, I was.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was actually doing a bunch of interviews this morning
- 2:26Speaker 1: and that was a question, how has it changed? And
- 2:30Speaker 1: I mean, there's so many ways that it's changed. It's
- 2:34Speaker 1: hard to like come up with one profound answer, but, um,
- 2:38Speaker 1: how do you feel like it's changed because your seat
- 2:42Speaker 1: has changed? You know, you went from being the guy
- 2:47Speaker 1: as the Bachelor to being the what are we going
- 2:52Speaker 1: to call it, the friend, the counselor the obviously the host.
- 2:55Speaker 1: But how do you feel like it's changed having that
- 2:58Speaker 1: front row seat? Yeah, well, you know my role, as
- 3:01Speaker 1: you said, it's looking at everything through a completely different
- 3:04Speaker 1: lens obviously, right. Um, yeah, I don't know, Like I
- 3:07Speaker 1: just feel like, you know, from my time as being
- 3:09Speaker 1: the Bachelor, I feel like the budget of the show
- 3:10Speaker 1: is way bigger. I feel like people are going on
- 3:12Speaker 1: way better, better adventures. Like I got to write an elephant,
- 3:16Speaker 1: which was awesome, but that was like that was like
- 3:19Speaker 1: the Pinnacle versus like Zach, who's like, you know, these
- 3:22Speaker 1: people are now taking like helicopter rides and lading on. Yeah,
- 3:25Speaker 1: it's like the Mediterranean. Those are those are things I
- 3:28Speaker 1: never saw. Um, and I think to like, just Bachelor
- 3:32Speaker 1: Nation is grown and grown and grown, and with the
- 3:34Speaker 1: advent of social media that obviously wasn't around when I
- 3:37Speaker 1: did it, it's just made it an entirely different platform.
- 3:41Speaker 1: And it's just the scope of everything now. I just
- 3:44Speaker 1: think it's so so much bigger and different huge. You're
- 3:48Speaker 1: so right, I mean the budget in particular. I was
- 3:52Speaker 1: just laughing earlier today because Ryan and I went to Seattle,
- 3:58Speaker 1: which is awesome. I love Seattle, I love theat I
- 4:05Speaker 1: would not have turned down flying on a helicopter and
- 4:08Speaker 1: landing on a yacht in the Aximas or in Australia
- 4:12Speaker 1: or you know what I mean. You know, damn, I
- 4:20Speaker 1: know it. Um, Okay, so you had some pretty big
- 4:24Speaker 1: shoes to fill clearly with Harrison have well, First of all,
- 4:28Speaker 1: have you talked to him? I haven't talked to him. No,
- 4:31Speaker 1: I'm really happy for him, though. Yeah. I know he's
- 4:33Speaker 1: got his new podcast. I haven't listened to it, but um,
- 4:36Speaker 1: if anyone's if anyone is able to talk about pop culture,
- 4:39Speaker 1: I know he's a huge fan of that. So I'm
- 4:41Speaker 1: just really happy for him and wish him the best
- 4:43Speaker 1: of us on his next venture. Yeah, of course. Um,
- 4:46Speaker 1: did you feel like pressure coming into that position, considering
- 4:51Speaker 1: Harrison had been doing it for for so long? And
- 4:55Speaker 1: I feel like the you know, the people Bachelor Nation
- 5:00Speaker 1: and were you know, there were there were a lot
- 5:02Speaker 1: of people who were upset. Did you feel pressure or
- 5:07Speaker 1: how did you feel? Because you know, I tried to
- 5:10Speaker 1: come in and just just be myself. You know, I
- 5:12Speaker 1: think I have a lot of my football background to
- 5:14Speaker 1: sort of lean on for that at times when you
- 5:16Speaker 1: go to different teams and you know, fans are used
- 5:19Speaker 1: to a certain player who's playing your position, and all
- 5:23Speaker 1: you can really do is just sort of go in
- 5:24Speaker 1: and and be yourself and not try to be somebody else. So,
- 5:28Speaker 1: you know, obviously, as a fan of the franchise, you know,
- 5:31Speaker 1: having been the Bachelor and then having watched for years
- 5:33Speaker 1: and years and years, I just I sort of, you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: really decided to come in and just really try to
- 5:39Speaker 1: be myself, you know, and and try to own it
- 5:44Speaker 1: the best I could just being me, um, because I
- 5:47Speaker 1: thought that would be the most authentic thing and that
- 5:49Speaker 1: would come across the most natural. So, um, you know,
- 5:53Speaker 1: obviously I'm still I'm still figuring it out right. It's
- 5:55Speaker 1: still so new to me in so many different ways.
- 5:58Speaker 1: And and you know, this season of the Bachelor for me,
- 6:01Speaker 1: hosting is a lot different than when I hosted with
- 6:05Speaker 1: Clayton as the Bachelor, um, and so different, well, you know,
- 6:10Speaker 1: I think the bachelors are different, the personalities are different,
- 6:13Speaker 1: the casts are different, and you know it's I think
- 6:17Speaker 1: when you're a host, you wear so many different hats. UM.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I feel like with with Zach, you know, I've I've
- 6:26Speaker 1: had to sort of learn that you know when to be,
- 6:30Speaker 1: when to be went to where a certain had at
- 6:33Speaker 1: different times. For instance, Zack's you know this is a
- 6:36Speaker 1: really emotional season. Um. Yeah, it's the most It's easily
- 6:40Speaker 1: the most emotional that that I hosted. UM. And I
- 6:43Speaker 1: think a big part of that is because how intentional
- 6:45Speaker 1: everybody is. I think what made this very unique for
- 6:47Speaker 1: me at least was how many women got out of
- 6:50Speaker 1: the limo and looked at Zack and said, hey, I'm
- 6:51Speaker 1: really happy it's you or I'm here because of you.
- 6:56Speaker 1: And I know Zach is really sort of as people
- 6:58Speaker 1: have seen. I think through the first two episodes, he's
- 7:00Speaker 1: really gone out of his way to to try to
- 7:03Speaker 1: give as many women as he could time. He wants
- 7:06Speaker 1: to get to know as many as possible. He took
- 7:08Speaker 1: everybody on a date UM this past episode, so you know,
- 7:12Speaker 1: he's really he's really intent on on making this work
- 7:16Speaker 1: and finding his person Um. But I think a lot
- 7:20Speaker 1: of the a lot of the drama that unfolds throughout
- 7:23Speaker 1: the course of this year. I think it's very organic
- 7:26Speaker 1: in the sense that it's not it's not necessarily a Cattinus.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's it's people falling in love and people getting their
- 7:34Speaker 1: hearts broken. And I think goodbyes for Zach are really tough.
- 7:38Speaker 1: He Um, He's he's the type of guy that just
- 7:42Speaker 1: does not want to hurt anybody's feelings. Um. And so
- 7:46Speaker 1: for me, you know where when you know when when
- 7:49Speaker 1: pass leads would say goodbye, they would just sort of
- 7:51Speaker 1: say goodbye, and it was it was a tough moment.
- 7:53Speaker 1: They kind of head back on in the mansion and
- 7:55Speaker 1: kind of collect everybody and tell them where we're off
- 7:57Speaker 1: to next. With With Zach, he really like felt the moment.
- 8:02Speaker 1: And you know, there's times people will see as we
- 8:04Speaker 1: move along, when when there's a goodbye, whether it's planned
- 8:07Speaker 1: or it's not planned, but there happens after a ros ceremony,
- 8:10Speaker 1: or it happens premature to a ROAs ceremony somewhere, we'll see. Um,
- 8:15Speaker 1: the further he goes, the harder he takes it, and
- 8:17Speaker 1: he really needs time to sort of collect himself and
- 8:19Speaker 1: he's sort of this present, he's in the moment, and
- 8:22Speaker 1: it was some of those moments where sometimes you know
- 8:24Speaker 1: you've got to kind of as a host go back
- 8:26Speaker 1: in there and and be a shoulder to cry and
- 8:28Speaker 1: you got to give the guy a hug sometimes, And
- 8:31Speaker 1: so it was. It was just a different It was
- 8:33Speaker 1: a different overall field based on the fact that Zack
- 8:36Speaker 1: is authentic to himself. He's his own guy, and it
- 8:38Speaker 1: was a bit of a different, a different journey than
- 8:41Speaker 1: some of the others that I've I've posted so far. Yeah,
- 8:53Speaker 1: are there times when you want to jump in and
- 8:56Speaker 1: go do something when they're pretty and are you a
- 9:00Speaker 1: producer at this point? Okay, so are there times when
- 9:04Speaker 1: you want to jump in and do something different than
- 9:07Speaker 1: the producer? Or have there been Has there been a
- 9:10Speaker 1: time like that where you've wanted to do something and um,
- 9:14Speaker 1: it hasn't been something that the producers have said that
- 9:16Speaker 1: you can do any moments like that. Yeah, I think
- 9:21Speaker 1: I haven't had to too many of those. I would
- 9:23Speaker 1: say that what I'm trying to do and I'm trying
- 9:25Speaker 1: to be as mindful as i can about this, just
- 9:27Speaker 1: not making it about myself, um, you know, and always
- 9:31Speaker 1: trying to interject with my advice because it's really it's
- 9:35Speaker 1: not about me, you know, it's about Zach, and it's
- 9:37Speaker 1: about the women. I mean, it's it's about the women
- 9:40Speaker 1: as much as it is about Zack. It's their journey too,
- 9:43Speaker 1: And so you know, as you know, the journey kind
- 9:47Speaker 1: of it, it takes itself out on its own course
- 9:50Speaker 1: and it goes where it will. Zack's journey certainly does
- 9:53Speaker 1: not go totally out. He thinks it's going to go um,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and there are a bunch of twists and turns and
- 9:59Speaker 1: things that he's prepared for. He's got a lot of
- 10:01Speaker 1: difficult decisions still ahead of him. Um. You know, my
- 10:04Speaker 1: job is to try to be there and be a
- 10:06Speaker 1: confidante for him, and to be an ally and and
- 10:08Speaker 1: a voice of reason and and to give advice if
- 10:11Speaker 1: Zach wants it and wants to ask for it. Zach
- 10:15Speaker 1: is that and by the way, he does do that.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And and obviously he also has Sean who's who's there
- 10:20Speaker 1: for him as well, the sort of to give him
- 10:22Speaker 1: some some some added perspective. But you know, I just
- 10:26Speaker 1: I think as the host, you got to be careful
- 10:27Speaker 1: not to not to constantly be jumping in, you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and because because you know, I don't want to derail,
- 10:33Speaker 1: you know, where Zack's going. And by the way, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: things that I think Zach should do aren't necessarily right
- 10:40Speaker 1: for Zach. Zach knows himself better and what he wants
- 10:43Speaker 1: than I do. And so I'm just I'm always trying
- 10:46Speaker 1: to be sort of sort of thoughtful and aware of that.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Just available. Yeah, always, yeah, always there, and there's you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: and there are times certainly that I do have to
- 10:57Speaker 1: go in and and be there for him, no doubt Jack.
- 11:00Speaker 1: But I think you have to pick those moments carefully
- 11:03Speaker 1: and thoughtful, because like, I don't need Zack thinking I'm
- 11:07Speaker 1: always like peeking over his shoulder and I'm hiding in
- 11:09Speaker 1: the bushes, like ready to jump in and like save
- 11:11Speaker 1: the guy. It's like, you know, you're proud of him.
- 11:13Speaker 1: You want to go out and do it, but you know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: but you you gotta let him figure it out for
- 11:16Speaker 1: himself too, Yeah, of course. Um okay, So what has
- 11:22Speaker 1: been your favorite part of this new job for you?
- 11:26Speaker 1: I think it's just meeting meeting the people. I I
- 11:28Speaker 1: just love people. I love being around them and I
- 11:31Speaker 1: love getting to know them and so you know, it's
- 11:35Speaker 1: that that to me has been It's been a lot
- 11:37Speaker 1: of fun and I've stayed in touch with a lot
- 11:39Speaker 1: of them. Um, and so it's really really cool. Um
- 11:42Speaker 1: it's fun sometimes to be on a season and then
- 11:44Speaker 1: see them again in Paradise and kind of see where
- 11:47Speaker 1: that goes. And you know, try to help people, you know,
- 11:51Speaker 1: find their person and find love. And we've been successful
- 11:54Speaker 1: in doing that as well. Uh. And then I have
- 11:57Speaker 1: to say, because we've already touched on it, uh, but
- 12:00Speaker 1: avel doesn't suck, no kidding, right, it's a totally new thing.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I wish we could have. Well, I mean this season
- 12:11Speaker 1: on Zach season, he hit like the jackpot when it
- 12:15Speaker 1: came to travel. So you know, when we leave California,
- 12:18Speaker 1: we go to the Bahamas and we go to London
- 12:21Speaker 1: and we go to Estonia, place the show has never
- 12:24Speaker 1: been and I don't even know where that is. It's
- 12:27Speaker 1: like eastern Europe. It's like close to lot and Riga
- 12:30Speaker 1: and the Bay of Finland. It's like right across from
- 12:33Speaker 1: from Finland. It's and I've actually been there before. It's
- 12:35Speaker 1: an amazing place. Um. So so I was really excited
- 12:39Speaker 1: for Zack on that. Uh. And then we also go
- 12:41Speaker 1: to Budapest, which is this incredibly beautiful and charming old
- 12:46Speaker 1: city with tons of history. Um yeah, Zach like totally
- 12:50Speaker 1: lucked out. There's the things that you and I never
- 12:53Speaker 1: got to do. We did not Pacific Pacific Northwest is great.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I just know Zack Za gets a sort of im not.
- 13:00Speaker 1: I'm not cutting on Seattle, but I definitely would have
- 13:03Speaker 1: loved to go to buddhadest um okay um. Compared to
- 13:11Speaker 1: ESPN because you have hosted or commentated or been an
- 13:17Speaker 1: analyst on ESPN, So compared to esp comparing ESPN to
- 13:22Speaker 1: The Bachelor, what is what's your face like? If you
- 13:26Speaker 1: had to pick one? I don't know. It's like hard
- 13:30Speaker 1: because like football is my wheelhouse. It's what I've always done,
- 13:33Speaker 1: and I've been doing that, you know, I've been I've
- 13:35Speaker 1: been working at ESPN for seventeen years now. It's crazy. Yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I've been there a long time and I love it.
- 13:41Speaker 1: I love football, and it's like, you know, you're My
- 13:44Speaker 1: role really is an analytical role. You talk about football,
- 13:48Speaker 1: you talk about what you see, you give your opinions
- 13:50Speaker 1: on that you do it in forty second sound bites.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It's all live all the time, and then you're out
- 13:55Speaker 1: where this is a totally different animal. And I think
- 13:57Speaker 1: what I love about this is that, you know, because
- 14:00Speaker 1: I'm so new at it, still I still get nervous.
- 14:02Speaker 1: I still have those feels, um, you know, but I'm
- 14:06Speaker 1: fanning out as well because you know, having been The
- 14:08Speaker 1: Bachelor and having been a fan of the franchise. I
- 14:10Speaker 1: just love where I am and I love what I'm doing,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and I love the people. And like we talked about earlier,
- 14:14Speaker 1: you wear so many different hats. It's never so much analytical.
- 14:18Speaker 1: It's it's being a therapist at times, you know, being
- 14:21Speaker 1: a shoulder to cry on, being a cheerleader, giving advice,
- 14:24Speaker 1: being a mentor. All those different things were really really fun.
- 14:26Speaker 1: So um, I love I'm lucky that I get to
- 14:29Speaker 1: do both at the same time. And it's just they
- 14:32Speaker 1: just balance and play off each other so well. They
- 14:35Speaker 1: are incredible jobs. I mean I know that my husband
- 14:38Speaker 1: when you were announced as um working in college football,
- 14:43Speaker 1: he was you know, I feel like he would have
- 14:47Speaker 1: so much fun at that job actually, to the point
- 14:50Speaker 1: that he was like, you should go do that. I'm like, No,
- 14:54Speaker 1: I know nothing about football compared to you, and I
- 15:00Speaker 1: would be horrible as you would be great. You would
- 15:03Speaker 1: be amazing, sweet, but would be incredible. Listen, I know
- 15:06Speaker 1: Ryan a little bit because my football agent also knows Ryan,
- 15:10Speaker 1: Peter Schaefer from Colorado. You are Peter Schaefer's client. Yes,
- 15:15Speaker 1: he was my agent when I played football. I know.
- 15:19Speaker 1: It's like six degrees of separations. So I've known all
- 15:21Speaker 1: about Ryan and how much he loves football. But I
- 15:24Speaker 1: can tell right away you're super talented. If you ever
- 15:26Speaker 1: wanted to do it, that would be something you'd be amazing.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Oh you're the sweetest, um. But yeah, no, there's no
- 15:33Speaker 1: way I would stress out too much. Like it comes
- 15:36Speaker 1: naturally to guys like you and Ryan who have played
- 15:39Speaker 1: in the NFL. Like it comes naturally. You did it
- 15:42Speaker 1: for so long, it's part of who you are. For me,
- 15:46Speaker 1: I could commentate on a dance competition, but not a
- 15:49Speaker 1: football game. Nope, not for me. But I'll leave it
- 15:55Speaker 1: to you guys the pros. Um. Okay, so I I
- 16:00Speaker 1: think this is um. This is something that I would
- 16:04Speaker 1: worry about as a host, is if I said something
- 16:09Speaker 1: Because I do this? Everyone does this, right, You go
- 16:12Speaker 1: to a party, you're talking to somebody and you say
- 16:14Speaker 1: something that you're like, why did I say that? Or
- 16:17Speaker 1: you think about it like an hour later the next
- 16:21Speaker 1: day and you're you're like, oh, that just makes me
- 16:23Speaker 1: want to cringe that I said that. Is there anything
- 16:26Speaker 1: that you've said so far or in a way that
- 16:29Speaker 1: you've said it, that you've you've just totally regretted saying
- 16:33Speaker 1: it or cringed at the fact that you said it.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It's hard. I mean, I in general hate seeing myself
- 16:40Speaker 1: on TV. I was like it when I played football.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I hate it when I played football. I used to
- 16:46Speaker 1: hate watching myself play back, and when I see myself
- 16:49Speaker 1: on ESPN after, I absolutely hate it. I hate my voice.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I hate the way I say things. It's not how
- 16:54Speaker 1: I think I sound, because what I've learned is it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: never as good as you thought. Like there were times
- 17:01Speaker 1: when I played or there's times I say things and
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm like, heck, yeah, that was smooth. That was host
- 17:07Speaker 1: you my friend or a host, And then I watched
- 17:10Speaker 1: it back and replay and I'm like, that was so basic.
- 17:14Speaker 1: That's said. There was nothing about that that was unique
- 17:16Speaker 1: or special. Why did you think it was so good.
- 17:18Speaker 1: But what I've also learned is while it's never as
- 17:21Speaker 1: good as you think, it's also never quite as bad
- 17:24Speaker 1: as you think too. You're so right there. Ever, are
- 17:28Speaker 1: times where you kind of say something, or you set
- 17:30Speaker 1: something up, or you know, you're you know, whatever it
- 17:33Speaker 1: is on the show, like like the things I get
- 17:36Speaker 1: really fired up for. This is probably really a stupid thing.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But you know when you go in and you know
- 17:39Speaker 1: when you dropped the date cards. Sometimes when when the
- 17:42Speaker 1: women are the guys are all in the room and
- 17:44Speaker 1: you're telling them where they're flying to next, and you're
- 17:46Speaker 1: it's gonna be a big reveal and it's gonna be
- 17:48Speaker 1: like this really incredible international destination. Everybody, go pack your
- 17:52Speaker 1: bags and get out because your flight leaves in an hour.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Let's go. In my mind, I always make it sound
- 17:57Speaker 1: like I think I'm making it seem like it's just
- 17:59Speaker 1: this huge, amazing thing, And sometimes I watch it back
- 18:02Speaker 1: and I'm like, you really sort of let your foot
- 18:04Speaker 1: off the gas on that one, Like you didn't really
- 18:07Speaker 1: like drive at home, you know. And I know part
- 18:10Speaker 1: of it is the fact that normally we've had a
- 18:12Speaker 1: rose ceremony the night before and you've like slept for
- 18:15Speaker 1: like three hours maybe when you go back in the
- 18:17Speaker 1: mansion to tell everybody. So it's like you're like stumbling
- 18:20Speaker 1: in everybody's half awake and they have to go back.
- 18:23Speaker 1: But I always wish like I would, I would deliver
- 18:26Speaker 1: that with a lot more. We'll see, We'll see how
- 18:28Speaker 1: it goes on Zach season, because like I'm fired up
- 18:31Speaker 1: for them because they're getting to go to these amazing
- 18:33Speaker 1: places and so yes, hopefully that hopefully it comes across better,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but it's again never as good as I thought, never
- 18:40Speaker 1: quite as bad. Also, yeah, that's a great way to
- 18:42Speaker 1: look at it. I think you're right. I remember hearing
- 18:45Speaker 1: something from someone about, um, don't worry too much about
- 18:50Speaker 1: what other people think, because they really aren't thinking that
- 18:53Speaker 1: much about you, you know, like, don't worry so much.
- 18:56Speaker 1: It's not good, you know, just do you? And yeah, um, okay,
- 19:01Speaker 1: So I would love to know like about you personally.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Obviously you being on the show as the host, we
- 19:07Speaker 1: don't get to know a lot about who Jesse is
- 19:10Speaker 1: and you're like day to day. I would love to
- 19:12Speaker 1: know how you met your wife and tell me a
- 19:14Speaker 1: little bit about her. Yeah, thanks, So I'm super lucky.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm married to this amazing woman who's way out of
- 19:20Speaker 1: my league. And I met Emily. Emily's from Brazil and
- 19:25Speaker 1: she lived in New York City for eleven years. I
- 19:28Speaker 1: was there for twenty one years. I stuck around after
- 19:30Speaker 1: I played during all my different TV stuff, and I
- 19:33Speaker 1: actually met Emily in a very organic way, which I'm
- 19:35Speaker 1: really happy about. I met her at a boxing class actually,
- 19:39Speaker 1: uh in New York City. Yeah. So I watched this
- 19:42Speaker 1: gorgeous woman, all sweaty, and she was punching this bag
- 19:47Speaker 1: and she was just beating the crap out of it.
- 19:50Speaker 1: And I was so turned on, but I was also
- 19:52Speaker 1: kind of scared. And it was like this this like
- 19:54Speaker 1: fine line in the middle, and I was like, man,
- 19:56Speaker 1: if I'm ever lucky enough to date this woman, I
- 19:59Speaker 1: am never gonna lie to her. All right, good, And
- 20:03Speaker 1: so that's kind started. Yeah, it's just kind of how
- 20:06Speaker 1: it started. And our first date was a boxing class
- 20:10Speaker 1: and then it kind of involved the protein shakes and
- 20:12Speaker 1: then lunches. Emily really slow play. She really kind of
- 20:16Speaker 1: wanted to see what I was about. Um, And you know,
- 20:19Speaker 1: here we are, like almost six years later, and uh,
- 20:23Speaker 1: she's still putting up with me, so it's great. Stop.
- 20:27Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sure if you speak French to her,
- 20:30Speaker 1: she's like a puddle. She's yeah, she's she. It's like
- 20:34Speaker 1: when she speaks Portuguese to me. I love it when
- 20:37Speaker 1: she speaks to her parents or her friends. You're just
- 20:40Speaker 1: sort of sitting there and you're like, coma just uh.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You probably just called me a bunch of bad names,
- 20:46Speaker 1: but I don't care. It sounds amazing. Who cares? Yeah,
- 20:49Speaker 1: your lunch order is making me drool? Are you guys
- 21:04Speaker 1: based out of New York? Still? We know? We moved
- 21:07Speaker 1: to Miami actually back in April. Amazing. It was over
- 21:13Speaker 1: the cold weather. Oh that's amazing. I actually lived in
- 21:17Speaker 1: Miami for seven years. I went to University of Miami
- 21:20Speaker 1: and dance. I didn't when we were there, um Coral Gables,
- 21:27Speaker 1: so I stayed close to school and UM. And then
- 21:32Speaker 1: I worked at Miami Children's Hospital, which it's called something
- 21:36Speaker 1: else now it's the Children's hospital there, but I was
- 21:39Speaker 1: like five minutes away from work, which was amazing that
- 21:44Speaker 1: it was fun. They actually just announced that we're having
- 21:49Speaker 1: a reunion in March where all of the Heat dancers
- 21:52Speaker 1: are going to come and we get to dance on
- 21:55Speaker 1: the court, um and just re unite, and I'm trying
- 21:59Speaker 1: to make it work. I don't know, but I'll let
- 22:01Speaker 1: you know. If we come to Miami, Um, I'm glad
- 22:03Speaker 1: to see. Do you ever bump into Ashley or JP?
- 22:07Speaker 1: I do not since I've been down there, And I
- 22:09Speaker 1: also haven't been there at Ton too. It's like with
- 22:12Speaker 1: the schedule, I'm sort of there for a couple of
- 22:13Speaker 1: days and I'm gone. But Emily is so happy. We're
- 22:17Speaker 1: close to the beach and we've got the dog and
- 22:20Speaker 1: she she walks the dog into the water every morning
- 22:23Speaker 1: and it's just like her paradise that it's great love
- 22:26Speaker 1: it has she been able to travel with you, she has,
- 22:29Speaker 1: which is really really important for us and our relationship
- 22:32Speaker 1: because I'm I'm constantly on the go, and so what's
- 22:36Speaker 1: really really neat is that she gets to come out
- 22:37Speaker 1: to l A when we're filming in l A. And
- 22:39Speaker 1: then on some of these trips we take, she's able
- 22:42Speaker 1: to kind of pop out and join along. And so
- 22:45Speaker 1: over the last year and a half she's got to
- 22:47Speaker 1: sort of meet everybody on the crew and there's like,
- 22:50Speaker 1: you know, the Bachelor crew, it's like it's like four deep.
- 22:52Speaker 1: There's so many people and so there's a lot of
- 22:54Speaker 1: familiarity there with her, which is really nice, meeting people
- 22:57Speaker 1: in our producers and like the camera people in the US,
- 23:00Speaker 1: an audio and everyone that that makes the show so great. Um,
- 23:04Speaker 1: she's kind of she's kind of becoming, you know, sort
- 23:07Speaker 1: of this extended part of that family, which is which
- 23:09Speaker 1: has been really really cool, and it's it's great for
- 23:11Speaker 1: us to be able to spend that time away from
- 23:13Speaker 1: home too. Yeah, of course, I think it's so important
- 23:17Speaker 1: to get away. And like I said, I was doing
- 23:19Speaker 1: some interviews this morning and people were celebrating our twentieth
- 23:23Speaker 1: wedding anniversary in December, and you know, the question has
- 23:28Speaker 1: come up, what's your what's your secret? Or you know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: how do you keep going? And I think it's all
- 23:32Speaker 1: about prioritization and making sure that your relationship is is
- 23:37Speaker 1: at the top of the list. You know, when you're
- 23:40Speaker 1: when you're traveling, you try to do stuff together. When
- 23:44Speaker 1: when you our home, you try to do stuff together.
- 23:47Speaker 1: And just making sure that each other knows that, yeah,
- 23:53Speaker 1: you are each other's top priority. I think that's that's
- 23:58Speaker 1: the best way to go about life and make or
- 24:00Speaker 1: that you're happy. Um, so are you guys looking to
- 24:05Speaker 1: expand your family at all? And got something more? No,
- 24:12Speaker 1: we we've talked about Yeah, we would love to have kids,
- 24:15Speaker 1: and so I think we're sort of both at a
- 24:17Speaker 1: point where we're ready to have a little Jesse's and
- 24:20Speaker 1: emilies running around. So we're you know, we're excited and
- 24:23Speaker 1: hopeful and we'll see what happens. Yeah right, I mean
- 24:28Speaker 1: she's got a busy schedule following you around, but hopefully
- 24:32Speaker 1: you can have little bachelor babies. And I've waited, Yeah,
- 24:35Speaker 1: I've waited a long time to do this. I mean
- 24:36Speaker 1: it took me a lot of years to finally get
- 24:39Speaker 1: down on the knees. So I feel like it's it's
- 24:41Speaker 1: time to kind of hustle it up a little bit,
- 24:43Speaker 1: start getting Yeah, it's a little ones running around now. Yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 1: I have two younger brothers. Okay, have kids, so I
- 24:49Speaker 1: gotta kid. Oh you do they have kids? Yes? I
- 24:53Speaker 1: have four nephews. Oh so your parents are like, Okay,
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's time let's go. Yeah, time for a second time
- 25:02Speaker 1: for a little girl. That would be great? Oh yes,
- 25:07Speaker 1: would you? Would you be? You know, I hate saying
- 25:10Speaker 1: this because as a parent. You can't pick a favorite.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And when I was pregnant, Everyone's like, what do you
- 25:16Speaker 1: hope you would have? Um? I just wanted a healthy baby.
- 25:19Speaker 1: But do you feel like being a girl dad would be?
- 25:24Speaker 1: You know, in your wheelhouse? Or would you rather be
- 25:27Speaker 1: a football with a little boy? I mean, you hit
- 25:31Speaker 1: it on the head. For me, it would just be
- 25:34Speaker 1: if we had you know, at this point, beggars can't
- 25:37Speaker 1: be choosers. I'll take anything, totally, take anything. And hey,
- 25:41Speaker 1: you can have a daughter and throw the football with
- 25:43Speaker 1: the daughter. Totally totally. I just I would. I would
- 25:48Speaker 1: love to have a little a little baby girl, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: because I know I would be a total daddy's girl
- 25:53Speaker 1: and she would have me wrapped around her finger and
- 25:55Speaker 1: I would do it. I would do it without any hesitation.
- 26:00Speaker 1: We just somehow don't make a lot of girls in
- 26:04Speaker 1: our family. I have two brothers. My brother has three boys.
- 26:07Speaker 1: My other brother has a boy. So something's got to give.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I think it's me. I'm going to manifest this. You're
- 26:15Speaker 1: going to do it right now? Yes, every night, you're
- 26:19Speaker 1: just going to think about it. Okay, So I'm sure
- 26:21Speaker 1: this is your job. Let's go one job. Um, Okay,
- 26:31Speaker 1: I want to end on UM on Zack season, give
- 26:35Speaker 1: us a little tease if you if you will. Obviously
- 26:39Speaker 1: I know you can't spoil anything. It comes with a job.
- 26:42Speaker 1: But is there something you can tell us that you
- 26:45Speaker 1: haven't told anyone else, or something you can tell us
- 26:47Speaker 1: about this season that is super exciting that we'll get
- 26:51Speaker 1: people to listen to this podcast, you know, like like
- 26:53Speaker 1: for me, like I what I what I kind of
- 26:55Speaker 1: feel and why I'm so excited about this season, especially
- 26:59Speaker 1: for Bachelor fans out there and people that have been
- 27:01Speaker 1: watching the show a long time, including when we were
- 27:03Speaker 1: we were on the show. UM, is that I think
- 27:06Speaker 1: this is gonna feel very nostalgic to a lot of them. Um.
- 27:10Speaker 1: This season really is a throwback in the sense that
- 27:13Speaker 1: it is so much more about the love story and
- 27:16Speaker 1: less about the drama. There absolutely is drama, no doubt
- 27:19Speaker 1: about it, and you can't like you can't avoid that,
- 27:22Speaker 1: but that's not going to be the prevailing, overriding theme
- 27:25Speaker 1: of this season. We know Zack's intentions on being there
- 27:28Speaker 1: and these women are very intent as well. They can't
- 27:30Speaker 1: you know, they really are there for Zach and so,
- 27:33Speaker 1: like we were talking about earlier, UM, it's extremely emotional
- 27:38Speaker 1: and and you know, we're sort of going to ride
- 27:40Speaker 1: the lightning and ride the wave here with Zack as
- 27:43Speaker 1: he tries to navigate all of this. But um, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 1: his his soul main focus is finding love. He's not
- 27:50Speaker 1: there to play the drama. And you kind of saw
- 27:51Speaker 1: that in in this most recent episode. He just Zack
- 27:56Speaker 1: is able to make decisions and not let things manifest
- 27:59Speaker 1: and fester. He he he can, he can step up.
- 28:03Speaker 1: He can make tough decisions and move on. I think
- 28:06Speaker 1: that's endearing him right now a lot with a lot
- 28:08Speaker 1: of the women in the house. Um, and so you know,
- 28:12Speaker 1: I I just spoke with Zach. I can't give the
- 28:14Speaker 1: ending away. Zach is extremely happy and he wouldn't change
- 28:17Speaker 1: anything about how this journey unfolds. So there's just a
- 28:22Speaker 1: lot of kind of old Bachelor vibes going on. We've
- 28:25Speaker 1: got the Bachelor Bowl coming up in the next episode,
- 28:28Speaker 1: which is something that's become synonymous with the franchise. There's
- 28:31Speaker 1: a massive pool party, which we had on my season
- 28:34Speaker 1: at the Mansion when I was a Bachelor's acts about
- 28:37Speaker 1: the partake and that coming up as well. And there's
- 28:39Speaker 1: just you know, I think people are just going to
- 28:41Speaker 1: sort of see and feel a lot of a lot
- 28:44Speaker 1: of the love, which which really at the core of
- 28:46Speaker 1: this show. That's what it is about. That's what it
- 28:49Speaker 1: should be about. And I think we're really sort of
- 28:51Speaker 1: getting back to that on this season. Good. That's why
- 28:55Speaker 1: I've always watched. I feel like I love love and
- 29:00Speaker 1: I love to see a love story unfold and root
- 29:03Speaker 1: for the couple and and you know, see how it
- 29:07Speaker 1: pans out after the show. So I'm glad to hear that.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I mean, I wish only the best for every single
- 29:15Speaker 1: person who has filled the shoes that we have been
- 29:18Speaker 1: lucky enough to Phil Prior, and um, I hope that
- 29:23Speaker 1: for Zach too, So thank you so much. I do
- 29:26Speaker 1: have one last question, So, um, do you think you
- 29:30Speaker 1: can put a word in that you know, Shan Low
- 29:34Speaker 1: is great and all, and he's successful in his relationship,
- 29:38Speaker 1: and you know he's got kids and they're very happy.
- 29:41Speaker 1: What about me, Like, dude, Hello, you're on, I will
- 29:46Speaker 1: be the messenger for you. You're ready. No, I'm like, dude,
- 29:50Speaker 1: they must have something against me. I must have done
- 29:54Speaker 1: something wrong because I am never asked to come back.
- 29:58Speaker 1: And you know, Zach was like Oh, Sean's been married
- 30:01Speaker 1: for however long, I can't remember how long he's been
- 30:03Speaker 1: married for. And he's super successful in relation relationship. And
- 30:06Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, I know me too, what I was
- 30:12Speaker 1: on it way before that. Just over here, I'm just
- 30:17Speaker 1: I'm getting ready for a dance. I'll totally be the
- 30:21Speaker 1: messenger for you. Put a good word. I thought you
- 30:24Speaker 1: were going to ask me for a job at ESPN.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I was like, yes, would die he would be so excited.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, Jesse, thank you so much for your time,
- 30:36Speaker 1: for your energy. I think you're doing a great job.
- 30:38Speaker 1: It's great to watch you and and I'm glad you're
- 30:41Speaker 1: there to support our our new little siblings. Little siblings
- 30:46Speaker 1: is the little gaffers running all over. It's so great
- 30:51Speaker 1: being on with you. Thank you so much, Thank you, Jesse.
- 30:55Speaker 1: All Right, we'll see you all right, cool, have a
- 30:57Speaker 1: great day, have time in those interviews. Oh yeah, you're
- 31:01Speaker 1: the high point. We'll see okay. Bye,
