Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: So the ceasefire that Trump declared decreed is currently holding,
- 0:05Speaker 1: but was broken for a moment while we slept last
- 0:08Speaker 1: night and lead to this outburst from Donald Trump.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I'm not happy with Israel.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm not happy with the run either.
- 0:14Speaker 2: We have two countries that have been fighting so long
- 0:17Speaker 2: and so hard that they don't know what the they're doing.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So since then Nitya, who was sending warplanes, they've been
- 0:26Speaker 1: turned around. There were a few bombs dropped, but it
- 0:29Speaker 1: seems that they've come back from the brink. So as
- 0:32Speaker 1: Trump is about to step out of Air Force one
- 0:34Speaker 1: at Amsterdam Airport and go to NATO, can he does
- 0:39Speaker 1: he have the wind at his back? So to speak.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Henry Olsen is a columnist in the United States and
- 0:43Speaker 1: it's with us this morning. Henry, Welcome to the show.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Thank you for having me on.
- 0:48Speaker 1: How how do Americans feel about Trump getting involved? You know,
- 0:52Speaker 1: are they paying attention to this in the way that
- 0:54Speaker 1: the rest of the world is.
- 0:58Speaker 2: He's paying a lot of attention to it. You know.
- 1:00Speaker 2: The whole suggests that the people who didn't like Trump
- 1:03Speaker 2: coming in don't approve of his action with respect to Iran,
- 1:07Speaker 2: but his base does, and his party does. The fact
- 1:10Speaker 2: is that Republicans and people who voted for him overwhelmingly
- 1:13Speaker 2: support him, and that's really what he needs. He also
- 1:16Speaker 2: has a lot of understanding and praise for at least
- 1:20Speaker 2: brokering a ceasefire and for ending what every administration going
- 1:24Speaker 2: back thirty years has said is an unacceptable threat that
- 1:27Speaker 2: Iran holds nuclear weapons.
- 1:29Speaker 1: If you, i suppose, if you can come away with
- 1:32Speaker 1: sitting the nuclear program back a couple of years, if
- 1:35Speaker 1: you can come away with Israel feeling about themselves and
- 1:39Speaker 1: with no further US involvement in the region, then that
- 1:44Speaker 1: is a massive win for US president, right.
- 1:48Speaker 2: It would be a massive When the question, though, is
- 1:50Speaker 2: if all you do is kick the program back a
- 1:53Speaker 2: couple of years, then you still have a question that
- 1:56Speaker 2: it's unacceptable to the United States that Iran because that's
- 2:00Speaker 2: a nuclear weapon. If all you do is kick the
- 2:03Speaker 2: nuclear program into low gear, then the next president is
- 2:07Speaker 2: going to have to make a difficult decision as to
- 2:10Speaker 2: what to do, and may have to make the same
- 2:12Speaker 2: decision the President Trump did. But at the at least
- 2:16Speaker 2: in the medium in short term, this appears to be
- 2:18Speaker 2: a huge win both the United States and for the
- 2:20Speaker 2: President Hey.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Henry, big heat wave heading the States. At the moment
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was looking in New York, it was felt like
- 2:26Speaker 1: forty one degrees celsius to us.
- 2:29Speaker 2: Very hot for you guys. Very and it's a primary
- 2:34Speaker 2: election day for the New York Democratic mayoral primary. We'll
- 2:38Speaker 2: see whether or not people decide to stay home rather
- 2:41Speaker 2: than go out in such a heat, hot and humid weather.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it'd be interesting to see what happens with Kumo
- 2:46Speaker 1: having a second bite of the cherry. Eight minutes away
- 2:49Speaker 1: from eight, that's Henry Olsen, who's an American columnist for
- 2:54Speaker 1: more Familily Edition with Ryan Bridge.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Listen live to news Talks.
