- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: What do we expect them to do next?
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: So that is coming up in the show as well.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: I am I think what I could attribute my high energy excitement to is Sunday night.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'll be calling that game with Tim Ryan on can be.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very excited about it.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Did not do the game in Tampa.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: This will be my life.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think I mentioned one of these.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: Conversations coming up.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be my last video my not my last video podcast.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll keep pumping.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be my last nighter game till December Baby coming soon early November
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'll still be doing, at least the plan, it's just still be doing podcast and YouTube's, but I'm not gonna call any college football games after November one.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm gonna kind of get back to work on the broadcast side beginning at December.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the plan here and nothing should change.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see, who knows, that's the beauty working from home.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I would imagine the Samsung washer and dryer
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: Even more than they already do in the backgrounds of these pods once we hit early mid-no-famper, but before you get into it, Sunday night, Niners at home, if you are going, and I know many of you are.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_01]: Here's a food decision already made for you, Puesto, Mejcano, Moderna, the wonderful people at Puesto have two locations in Levi Stadium, one where you get the case of Buria Tacos, the Elpestor Tacos, the perfect guacamole with the Parmesan original, and the perfect margarita or the Bang Bang margarita.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a really nice way.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to supposed to be on a gorgeous weekend.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: So which perfect for some pesto, the other location inside Levi's.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: The other stand has the chicken alpastor, burrito with the crispy melted cheese.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: They seal it with the crispy melted cheese, that is the Mexico City style.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: their signature, it's fantastic.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: You can also get the bracelet a little insider tip.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: You can get the burrito to go if you go to one of their brick and mortar locations.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: And they have the burry and not shows, by the way, the taco stand.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, the margarita.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: So is anybody else making fresh tortillas in house daily for a football stadium?
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to guess no.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: The question was fantastic.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: In the stadium two locations, two locations in the barrio as well.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: One in Concord, one in Santa Clara.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it's a great place to watch games.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place to go date night.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place for boys night.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place to, you know, meet our parents for the first time.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great place to do whatever.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a great place.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great business lunch, and it's just a great hang.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: I always send people there.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: They always love the food, love the vibe.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: The Adler Brothers are big matter fans.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: They are experts in making great food, and so many good options.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I love the short rib case of Bidria, Taco with the juicy short ribs, the oe-goey melted cheese, a kick of
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I like to say it's comfort food with a little south of the border flare.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: They also got the locations in Southern California and Orange County in La Jolla.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: The great Margarita's salads, apps, guacamole, the Chile Achilles, the shrimp, Governor-Norcacedilla, with the Mexican shrimp, the poblanos, the pickled red onions, the jalapeno sell, so this is just a sampling.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Check out Puesto, Mexicano, Moderna, thank you to all the people at Pesto for the great food, the great experience and the support of the show.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_01]: and hope it to fun day at Levi's on Sunday.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get into it.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Some teams in the NFL give the ball to their running back to set up the past to their receivers.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: Now, some teams throw it to their receivers to set up the run to their running back.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I'm going to say?
- 4:08[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers give it to Christian McCaffrey.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: to set up the past, the Christian McAfrey, or they pass at the Christian McAfrey, to set up the run at the Christian McAfrey.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little bit of exaggeration, but I wanna talk about the ongoing Christian McAfrey discussion, especially this week because the foot of that is replying on Monday Night Football, Ph.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: John Robinson, who is Christian McAfrey 2.0?
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: And people are saying right now is the best player of the NFL.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: The hard-dark you, he's been fantastic.
- 4:38[SPEAKER_01]: At the same time, there's a big debate about whether an Christian's lost a step.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's a fair conversation to have.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the reality is it's his ninth year in the league.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's 29 years old, probably.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: But also is playing like one of the most important players in the NFL.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, how could he not be wearing down a little?
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's touching the ball more than anybody else.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: His touches are by far and away the most in the league.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: 154 touches is 19 more than Jonathan Taylor's second.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's 49 more than B. John Robertson.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: He's touching the ball on average.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: more than eight times per game, more than B shot Robison, who's the best player in the league?
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: Apparently.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: So it'd be hard for his efficiency to not go down on top of that complimentary football that honors to push the ball down in the field, but it's not exactly the highlight.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's good, and I think Kyle's done an excellent job, but it's not the most balanced 40m offence we've ever seen.
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Jeff Deaney, a pro football focus, sent some numbers over against the box,
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Christian ran for 54 yards.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: Six of those yards came before contact.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: Think about that.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: Six of 54 yards came before he got hit.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: 48 of his yards came after he got hit.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_01]: And you could argue, well, maybe it's not getting to the hole as quick, and that gets him hit.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's probably some truth to it, but I don't think it's the primary reason we're seeing less efficiency.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, some of these numbers, and again, these are from PFF.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: are incredible when you consider that he is one of the most productive players in the league despite this.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's the headline for me is despite the issues.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's still the drop in efficiency.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: So he's just become a raw number of machine.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_01]: Yards before contact per carry.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's half of what he was doing in 23.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: His last healthy season.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_01]: Half, I mean, there's 1.3 that year.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's 0.7, 22, it was 1.9.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: 21 is 1.8, I think part of this might be him.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's fair.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: But it's clear, everybody's zeroed in on this guy.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: And not having George Kittle around is a factor.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: 0.7 yards before contact is 29 among qualified backs.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, in this case, qualified backs means 50 or more touches, carries.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: 29th out of 36, accurate.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if it's not working, why keep giving it to him?
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: Because despite it not working, it is kind of working.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: stuff rate.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, that's a run that's no gain or it's a loss.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: Skyrocketing this year, 24% one out of every four carries is no gain or a loss for Christian.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: In 2020 through those 15% so it's almost 10% higher.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: Now, he's had higher numbers before 19% in 22 and 21.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_01]: On worst teams, presumably in Carolina, like maybe there's some correlation there, Carolina's not as good, so they're keying it on him more.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: What's interesting is you would think, and I would have thought that he's facing more eight man boxes this year, that's not the case.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's actually facing less.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_01]: They're not committing as many players to the run and yet they are defending the 40 matters run.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: So there's no question the efficiency is down, but efficiency goes down when your volume goes up.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: And right now, Christian is a 108 attempts that's, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's the second most of his career, only 2020 when he was 19.7 attempts rushing was higher.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_01]: His receptions per game is 7.7.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_01]: That is the highest of his career.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we're talking about a guy who's workload at 29 years old at a time when he's supposed to be losing skill or at least explosiveness.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: His workload is basically never been higher.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_01]: So that alone you would think would make
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: efficiency go down on top of that is happening at a time when maybe he's losing a little explosiveness, but I I see a guy you know what's funny about the numbers and I've said this a few times when you watch these games as you do as I do we all want you you know I don't watch any more of it than you do I watch it watch the old 22 you watch it you probably watch the old 22 but when you watch it even though the efficiency is down it does feel like
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: and it's hard at a break and like they're not breaking any runs any big runs there's no explosives which will get to one a second.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: But it does feel like he does pick up key yards and key moments at times and I think he still very skilled player.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the fact that he's touched the ball more than anybody else and is still creating offense that that's why I look at it is he's creating offense for the 40 miles.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think the answer is yes.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: And so even at two point whatever yards per carry, three point one yards per carry, which is the lowest of his career, they're still hitting like, how is Kendrick born getting so open?
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: Part of that's got to be that even if the defense thinks, we can stop your run, they still have to pay attention to stopping the run, and make Christians can also get out and catch the ball.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing is, and this is where I hesitate a hair on the explosiveness, because the age would tell us the numbers would tell us, like all that stuff would say, yeah, he's probably lost a half a step.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: Has he had a chance to get in the fourth gear at all ever once this year, maybe once twice has he had a chance to really open it up.
- 10:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I think there are there is quickness and then there was speed and Christians had both in his career explosiveness and speed.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: We haven't really gotten the chance to see like, can he still run someone going to I'm still waiting for him to break a hole and then and then we can evaluate someone going to chase him down here when they normally wouldn't.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: Now that's not most that's why people kind of laugh at the 40 or dash sometimes it's like.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Well, most things that happen on a football field aren't straight line 40 yards, sprints.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's about explosion, it's about quitting this.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: That's, you know, like the 10-yard shuttle is a, or the 10-yard shuttle is something that people have started to like more for real football movements, turning, exploding, short area quickness.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's more important.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we have definitive information here.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_01]: The he is getting swarmed and we see it.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: And yet, he's touching them all more than anybody else by a mile.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the total yards will end up at.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, 336 through six games.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: So what is that pace?
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: 336 divided by six equals times, oops, it's 56.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_01]: 56 times, 17 is not 100.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_01]: That is a lot of hard work for less than a thousand yards.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's a lot of hard work for, I mean, in 2022, when the nine is got him,
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: He ran for 746 yards on 159 attempts, 746 on 159 right now he's at one away and he's at 336 so yeah it's like by every metric it's less efficient but it's still the difference between them winning and losing games.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_01]: And this week, I think, you know, I talk about it with quarterbacks all the time.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_01]: We get to see this one guy on the field with this other guy.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: How are they going to compare?
- 12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Because beach on stuff is sick.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, beach on is nine yards of carry last week.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: Against Buffalo or Monday night against Buffalo a couple of days ago.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: 10 yards per catch, 25 touches.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: People are like, look at this guy, he does that, he does it all.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_01]: And he's touching it eight times the less per game than Christian, but we're going to see it on the field at the same time.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: And which one's going to relate to winning?
- 12:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, the odds are against this 90s defense without Fred Warner, B. John's efficiency numbers will continue to be better than Christian's efficiency numbers.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_01]: Can then others keep it close enough?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: Can the score keep playing the red zone?
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Can they score key down on the red zone?
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, can they keep it close enough or Christian to me, he still makes so many winning plays, even if the efficiency's not there.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I think maybe if kiddo comes back or when kiddo comes back, maybe when Pierce all comes back, I still think we're gonna see my ultimate prediction on Christian is we'll still see those efficiency numbers go up.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: At some point this year, if the personnel around him gets better, but if it doesn't, this dude's gonna keep just running into brick wall.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_01]: I remember I was telling a baby crib to my buddy Joe who brought it over.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he had his son and they were, he was showing him how to, you know, who's giving him tips on how to work.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I said, you know, my dad always used to say when we were like building something, two things.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: One, like I'd get on the ground, like lay down for a minute, like get a rest while you're under something.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, you don't do any work laying down.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_01]: But the second thing, unless you're, I guess, under the house, the second thing was always brains over Braun.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Right now the Niners, Shanahan, I think, has displayed his brains, but when it comes to Christian,
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And like the touchdown they scored against the Rams where they split Christian out got them on a linebacker.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was a really cool moment on radio because Tim Ryan identified it right away.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is going to Christian watch this.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: But so there's still a lot of brains over Braun when they use McAfrey, but they're still plenty just brawn just
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: Give it to him, run him into a wall, see what happens.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe one of these days he'll run through it.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: What used to be a 17 yard or a break away touchdown is now eight.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what, in these games, the tires play where it's going to be a three point game or a one point game or a five point game, the eight yard carries kind of the new home run for them.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: The double is the new home run for the 49ers in the run game, and it's still effective because they're playing in close games, it's still matters.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think we're seeing a special year, a different kind of special year from the cafe so far, especially if he can stay healthy the whole year if he can stay healthy the whole year playing like this.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_01]: then despite the fact that you'll look back at the box score in 20 years and no one will notice that you're like, oh, down here for my cat, you know, like the version of me in 15 years, I'll look back and like, you know, just reading a box cover, like, oh, I'm a camera wasn't as good in 25 and those of us that sought for people like, well, I've never seen a guy take this much of abuse and just keep, like the fact that it's at 3.1 if he leads the league by this wide of margin at the end of the year, you go, holy smokes.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_01]: That was pretty impressive.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_01]: That was a display.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Chris is not putting together his best years statistically, but he is putting on a display, a display of toughness, a physicality, mental and physical toughness, smarts, fearlessness, it's a display from Christian McAfrey.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I think by the end of the year, if he's healthy the whole time through, my senses will all kind of feel like you do have seen it.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_01]: different, not historic, right?
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: Not the like 2,000 yards from Scrimmage Year.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: This is a year's up that he's put together.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I am very aware when we watch this guy run into a pile for the 15th time.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that one time, it's like, oh, all six yards on first down when they needed it up by three, trying to end this game.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm still very aware watching him that he's still a very special player.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, producer Conner is here.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: Niners Falcons coming up on Sunday, which means that you got to go to Levi State and we get your posto.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: But some of the ESPN reporters did some breaking down of the market, are the Niners now totally out of any trade market.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: And this is from today, Dan Graziano, and what's his name, Fowler.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: Jeremy Fowler, Jeremy Fowler.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_01]: Niners are banged up.
- 16:42[SPEAKER_01]: Could they be active in the trade market?
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: Let's riddle through a few of these.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: Fowler says, yes, they've been scanning the trade market for past-rust options.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Niners are considered trade-hentrics in an ideal fit for their defense.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: If the bangles would part with them for reasonable compensation.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think this will be a reoccurring theme here.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what is reasonable compensation for the Niners?
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Grasian, I've been told the same thing about Hendrix and Bangles don't intend to trade up.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like, of course, they intend to trade them.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: They have to trade them.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Um, but they don't intend to, you know, get fleece and they've got some time here.
- 17:11[SPEAKER_01]: Values his other options.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: I suspect the knives will check in on Rishan Gary, Packers, Jalen Phillips, Dolphins, Bradley Chub, Dolphins, Dermaine Johnson, Jets, Will McDonald Jets, Arden Key Titans.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: Also, uh, what's his name?
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: The former Raiders top pick, Leeland Furl, uh, just got cut.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_01]: So, uh, you know, he's a former 49er.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: Grasiano says they won't be able to find a one for one replacement for
- 17:36[SPEAKER_01]: But if the jets are dealing players as most people think they would line back or quincey Williams is in the last year of his deal could be a fit, and then Fowler mentions Houston lineback or Christian Harris, multi-year starter, plays for Demico extension of the Niners principles, I think the Niners.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: So basically what they're saying is, oh, any adds, it doesn't have to be defense for the Niners.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: So the Niners could go out of the direction.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the basic sentiment counter is, don't assume the Niners are going to do nothing.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I think it goes back to like, John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan historically very aggressive.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Now it's about selective aggressiveness.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's not about aggression so much of this.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: We'll do stuff to upgrade the team, but not to injure next year.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: And I think part of it is like, I want your take on this, but I do want to add to like, this is, I do think there's a,
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: There are a few potential silver linings to the year.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: First of all, still, if you make the playoffs at this point, good year.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: There are some teams worth giving up on.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Let's pack it in and start worrying about the draft pick.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is not one of those teams because it's so young.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's so young, there's a value in learning how to win games difficult.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: There's a value in these guys playing in closed games.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's a value in playing a playoff game.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_01]: So that's the first thing.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the second thing to me that silver lining is Fred Warner leaves a massive void, not just on your defense, but from the leadership standpoint.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: I hope Brock party plays against Atlanta this week because not only is it a big game, you know, like, everything's gone wrong.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: You win the game, you're five and two, pretty good.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_01]: And now we watch it land on Monday night.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_01]: Connor was just back from Boise.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: Heavy little sleep, alcohol, BAC, high, sleep low,
- 19:27[SPEAKER_01]: Watch Monday night football before he passed out all the Tuesday.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, so good to have you back, but it's a prime time.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_01]: We also, with the Falcons look like they looked good.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's a prime time game.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think there is an opportunity to hear for Brock Perti to really take the reins of this team.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's already been a leader, but to me like now when all the bets are off on this 40 matters team and you can kind of beat the underdog again.
- 19:52[SPEAKER_01]: And the guy that gets paid all this money is never the underdog.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I think there's an opportunity to be here for pretty to step up, reclaim, claim, like primary leadership of this team, and go find ways to win games.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: Like when this year started and you thought everyone's going to be healthy and can you play your way into a Super Bowl contender, you weren't getting a lot of credit for like finding a way to be the Falcons or finding a way to beat the Cardinal.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: Well now,
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like this is the type of year where it's like, no, you find ways with MVS and Kendrick born and McAfrey at 3.1 yards per carry.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I, you know, kind of, I'm not trying to be like too fired up, but I am kind of fired up about I don't think they're going to fully give up on this season.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think they should.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think there's not particular here.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think when you look at, if you look back at the season, like how good of opportunity, the Niners have to then win with offense.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: The first, the first four games was great defense.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_00]: They keep losing defensive guys.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Now in offense, they get their offense, the players back, they get kiddled back, they get purest all back, maybe I euked on the road, then it could be a team winning with offense.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: And it could just be that sort of season.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: You just don't know what you're going to get, but then it's like pretty took over.
- 20:59[SPEAKER_00]: He is the guy.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: He developed with Ricky
- 21:06[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, that being said, like, I hope Perty doesn't force the ball because that was what was getting him in trouble in 2024 early this year.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: So he has to kind of temper it and then trust what's in front of him.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you can get kiddo back this week, which kiddo maybe should play.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_00]: He's got to just, you know, take the easy completion and not force the ball down the field.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, you also mentioned it earlier.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_00]: The 49ers are 10, 14 days ago now, almost just beat the Rams.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: They were feeling good.
- 21:34[SPEAKER_00]: All, you know, that Sunday, all of their opponents seem to have lost this year or this week.
- 21:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's just completely flip.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a weekend week out.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: If the 49ers go and they beat the Falcons by 10 points at home somehow with 30 points, like next next week's going to be phenomenal.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: So beat it by one.
- 21:51[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, just win, yeah, just win, baby.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think anyone's ever said that before.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll claim that as the Niners New slogan.
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: Just win, baby, but to your point, you're right, like it is about, 27 teams is not the example of anything.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think what was interesting about 2017 is they added purple at the end of the year, they want some games, it wasn't a banner year, but somehow they managed hit the off season with momentum.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and to me, like, if you win some games down the stretch and Brock plays well, and it does have to be that, like, by the way, if the game's 3431, you actually can't afford to, like, force the ball and make them a stake, because you're going to get it again.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's not, kind of, there's low possession matter.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying you want to do that, that ultimately might get you beat, but especially since the ladders are now 13 straight games without a pick, like, and Fred Warners, the guy that creates all the fumbles, and you're going to get any takeaways,
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: I have a feeling they're going to pick off micropanics like twice this week, the damn will break.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, panics is worst isn't the right word, because I actually think Michael's good I think he's a good player.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: I'm a, I'm a micropanics fan.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: But when you look at all the numbers,
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: completion percentage yardage touchdowns and receptions time to throw like all that stuff.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: He is at or near the bottom of the group of quarterbacks they've played so far this year, right?
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: When you just look at it, spent Wrathler and Stafford and Trevor Lawrence and Starnold and Kyler Murray like panics at the bottom.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: They're given it to B. John, who is nine yards of carry and ten yards per catch on Monday night.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: The backup, how you say, I got to learn this by Sunday,
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think he runs his ass.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think he was like three out of the carry that day, but he runs hard, just like he did it be why you.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: Drake on in 10 catches.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so yeah, you got to go score.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's a great addition to the point I'm purdy by you is like, you're just going to have to go score more points, which clearly shant hands are already kind of dialed up for that.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe that type of game opens things up for Christian a little bit.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_01]: I did another video.
- 23:57[SPEAKER_01]: If you're listening to the podcast, you already heard me talk about like,
- 24:00[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're going to look back, especially if you get kittle and then later, I you back and the efficiency numbers come up a little bit for Christian, if he's healthy this year, just carrying the load as much as you're carrying it, I think it's a special year.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, maybe Jennings gets a few touches.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: Jennings, you had to hand a little drama.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_00]: Kittle, I mean, Kittle being back, we've talked about this, but the 49ers just rushing attack gets so much better.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_00]: And everything just opens up with Kittle seemingly.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: For all the losses on defense, their offense is still fairly intact.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: I know we're sitting here talking about if Brock Perty's going to play, but let's just say they come back and start producing.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_00]: This could look, this offense could look dynamic again.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: And against the Rams against the Rams, like you saw Shannon and how good he teamed up, you know, Kendrick Boren for 10 catches and I'm going to get you.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: Plus you are.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: So I just, yeah, you just got to have this often sort of build momentum.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: Now you look at it though, the Texans, so they play the Falcons and then the Texans who have the fourth best total defense, the Giants on the road, 28th best defense and then back.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_00]: at home against Rams top 10 defense.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: So it's got it like this easy schedule quote unquote these teams have started to develop and there's each store line for each different team.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be a walk in the park.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: Giant aren't good necessarily, but they're being filly.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: But they have a lot of momentum.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and you got to go there.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the last two years when Kittle is off the field, it's a yard and a half per carry lower according to Jeff
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's remarkable.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: Isn't that crazy?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: That's remarkable.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I just think I think there is reason to add, I'm kind of interested to see Tatum Bethoon.
- 25:50[SPEAKER_01]: This we've for all the Nick Martin, remember I said this coming to you about D-Winners, like all the everyone's ignoring D-Winners, I think D's played well, but now, you know, now everybody's mistakes kind of get highlighted a little bit more without Fred Warner.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_01]: If Fred Warner's on the field as Baker may feel break off that crazy.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: I feel, you know, I bet every fan base feels this way.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: But like I feel like once a year the Niners give up some back-breaking Kyler and Caleb Baker Just some like all that you get him here the game you might win this game.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're like, oh, god.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_01]: How do you get out of that?
- 26:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so instead of 2021, when Debo was doing that on Widersever screens, you'd be like third and 18, he gets an idea.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I, I'm glad you mentioned Debo because I thought I was listening to Matt Barrows and Kawakameau.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I, there might, there are go to listen for sure.
- 26:46[SPEAKER_01]: The 40 matters plus minus, which is now on YouTube.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: You can go go subscribe to their YouTube channel.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought they made a great point.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, I don't know if this has been brought up in the run game stuff, but
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Jennings, Iyuk, and Dibo, if as wide receivers that's like a proble blockers, you know, and they have totally lost that love.
- 27:14[SPEAKER_01]: There was so much like born doesn't block like that, Kendrick, MVS, you know, it's just, those guys are as good as it gets.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_01]: And when when pieces when you start losing pieces and you have to start plugging on the you just you you sacrifice stuff you don't get to just like hand pick your replacements to like they're okay we're they with this type of aggression this type of run blocking that like all of that stuff and you see it to me you see it on some of the toss plays.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like some of these Christian tossed plays like how did he just get because I thought for sure we'd look in like eight man boxes because that's how it feels on the penetration.
- 27:49[SPEAKER_01]: If it's like, oh, there's more guys in the box.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: Wait, there's less.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: Some of these, there was the toss play against the Rams where he, like you never see guys blown up on toss plays.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think that's probably part of this as well for them in the run game.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's a good point.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that's the exact point we're making about George Kittle, right?
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yard and a half per carry, but I mean, these receivers even, yeah, they block their, they block so hard.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: The Jennings was like, he blocked the Packers receive or Packers quarterback into the side by and during the NSC championship game.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, that is, you know,
- 28:23[SPEAKER_00]: underlying, you know, theme about that.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_00]: And then the offensive line, the offensive line at some point is going to have to be addressed or just going to roll it out over and over and trend Williams like this is probably an off season finally to address trend Williams, what do you say?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: What does that mean?
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, he's on the contract and he's getting paid so.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, it's time to pick up a, like, a long-term, maybe replacement.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would love that.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they are so, they're not picking somebody up just for the sake of it.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they have to like them.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_01]: They're not going to, oh, well, this is you.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_01]: They draft a guy in the first round.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: Well, maybe if they like them.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, what do you think about just, like, let's go back to the original.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: And by the way, like, it's, we're recording this Wednesday, midday.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: is Brock in a play, I don't know, you know, I don't know.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: But what do you think, what, I kind of talked through this, what would you make of the Fowler, Graziano, you know, I think the thing to remember is, is they can be interested in making a move, but they're not gonna make a move just for the sake of it.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: And also like they're going to get to see this we how does take them Bethune play you know what what what what do we need do we lose two games and we're like all right we're not making a Hendrix and trade you know so they're all yeah what what was your take on that on those reports.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I thought the Quincy Williams aspect was was the most intriguing.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that jets overall, the jets are sort of a dumpster fire.
- 29:55[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a new sort of, it's a new coaching, it's a new regime, right?
- 29:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I think they would be more likely to sell for cheaper, given where there are.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: For whatever reason, the bangles are trying to hold on.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_00]: They went and got flacco.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: So they're trying to hold on.
- 30:09[SPEAKER_00]: So maybe hope that Barrow can return, which I just don't, don't see it.
- 30:13[SPEAKER_00]: But on that Quincy Williams, he's played with Robert Solb before.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: Saul knows these players from from last season with the Jets.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_00]: So I think I think Quincy Williams could be very good is, you know, let's say, you know, Nick Martin or Tina Bethune don't really pan out immediately.
- 30:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like, go get someone who Robert Saul knows so well.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think be more that it feels like Nick Martin's not part of this puzzle right now, right?
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see who somebody reported that the Browns traded Flacco to the Bengals just to screw with the Steelers?
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: Did you see that?
- 30:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, no, I didn't see that, but just like it was a spite trade.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Just to go try to beat them, the I love that.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, the other thing, Kawakami brought up and we're a little ahead of the game here.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_01]: But it was, I hadn't thought about it.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: It was interesting, like, what if Brock comes back healthy this week or in a couple of weeks, whatever.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: And you could get something for Mac Jones.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's an interesting thing.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you can do that, though.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: Given what you've seen on a Brock Pretty's health, I don't think you can do that and then how valuable Mac Jones is.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll check it out.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: At what price?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what price are you getting for Matt?
- 31:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what are you doing?
- 31:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, are you turning a player?
- 31:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think it has to be such an overt like it's got to me.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_01]: I don't even have a third round or enough as crazy as that sounds because I'm thinking about him.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you go to 26 and your team's better.
- 31:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you might need him in 26, right?
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: For a really good contract.
- 31:39[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do your Brock and play two straight games this year.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, would you go?
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Let's just, I'm excitedly, yeah.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_00]: Would you go tray Hendricks and Mac Jones?
- 31:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think I would cause Mac Jones is on the team next year.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: But it's a quarterback and he's good crazy that we're talking about this right now.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_01]: What would you do with that deal?
- 31:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so either.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think you can give in how valuable Mac Jones is has will you start in quarterback.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's like, like, bro, I were talking about like what if brok when does brok, but he's not.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: Mag Jones is your starting quarterback right now.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: And it's, it is alarming because, you know, on paper, it's Mac Jones and a triandrics in and you hear those names, but no, given the status of this 49ers team and how injured they are, the other thing that is so tough is knock on what I actually don't want to say it, but Christian McAfrey's been so,
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: So healthy this year.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just like you can't even time it up again.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: So okay, back to you guy on defense middle line back here address or address the defense of line if the Niners were going to make a move to me is just the best guy like it you're solved both problem.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the good news is they're both holes.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, if you go to a shoe store and you're like, I don't have enough money for one pair of shoes, I need running shoes and dress shoes.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: I need them both, but I'm only gonna buy one and they have both on sale, you know, just buy the cheaper one.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, buy the better fit.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I think you are, we'll see, we'll see what the step down is.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you've already kind of done the boat, you've already lived without Bosa, right?
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: I also think it's like, how much do you believe that the development for whoever is on the field matters?
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you think Tatum Bethune can be a starting line back for you?
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: If so, then, okay, then growing pains.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_01]: You know, like kind of marquee-segal, clearly right now.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, growing pain.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we are going to live with growing pains because this is going to pay off in the future.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_01]: So, I think that's part of it.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah, either or and or both.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think middle linebacker, like you said, you saw the Niners were able to scratch and claw out victories without Nick Bosa and Fred Warner held that team together on defense.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think a dressing middle linebacker and if someone saw a nose and it can be, you know, a marginal difference, D winters can then go fly around at the, you know, weekside.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 34:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think that would be more important to address.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: someone who's not learning on the job at that spot.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: Specifically, that's spot.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 34:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_01]: So.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: I keep looking at the night as a favorite.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: After watching the Falcon Falcon Falcon's Monday, and I'm like, this team is good.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are tough.
- 34:38[SPEAKER_01]: That I do think zero might be the best number for like a badass linebacker now that you're allowed to do it.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: Divine Devolo, what's this name?
- 34:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll learn that one by Sunday too.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: I just watch zero.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you grant the tape.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: You just call guys by numbers.
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: Grand the tape.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think B. John is going to have.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: Don't boy.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_00]: B. John versus a couple new linebackers is going to be.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: But if you can get out get after panics before he gets the ball out.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think the if if this team can be competitive and you have Michael developing got a sack of the Ablo.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: The Ablo.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: The Ablo.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like a greater jersey around here somewhere.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: But if you also get these rookies and younger players and pressure-packed situations, that's also a good outcome for the season and performing like if there's.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, when with offense, I think is the the new mindset flip.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_01]: All right,
- 35:31[SPEAKER_01]: On Sunday, far up about that.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_00]: Find out the record from that.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_01]: Who'd they wear the throwbacks against this?
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: You're the Cardinals.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: One of the gaming is the Cardinals.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_01]: And the white throwbacks.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_01]: So players love that as uniform.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: So do I. All right.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_01]: Play it out.
